  1. of all time is a Frank Capra film called It's a Wonderful Life. Anybody see it?

  2. Now there are several scenes in It's a Wonderful Life that are just really powerful and every time

  3. I see it I get choked up. So you know there's the scene where everything is falling apart for George

  4. Bailey and he gets mad with his kids. You know that whole scene where he yells and runs upstairs

  5. and kind of lays into Zuzu's teacher, that whole thing. I could see myself in George Bailey. I'm

  6. wondering if you can too. And then there's the whole scene at the end where George Bailey, second

  7. least on life, he comes home, we're going to deal with the consequences and he's met by grace, met by

  8. love. Room full of people. But the scene that chokes me up the most is this one. Mr. Gower,

  9. the pharmacist, gets a telegram. His son's been killed in action. He's trying to drink away

  10. his sorrows. And as he's drinking he fills a prescription and he fills it wrongly. He actually

  11. puts poison in that jar. The young George Bailey sees it all. And when Mr. Gower gives the pills

  12. to George to deliver, George doesn't deliver it. He comes back to the shop. Mr. Gower gets

  13. a phone call. Why didn't they get their pills? Do you remember the scene? Mr. Gower yells.

  14. He slaps George upside the head. Gives him a permanent deafness in his right ear. Remember that?

  15. The young George Bailey whimpering, crying, saying, I know you didn't mean to do this. I know you

  16. didn't mean to do this. I know you didn't mean to poison this. And there's that scene where he

  17. undoes the lid, tests it, and his countenance changes. He knows what he's done. And he knows

  18. that this boy has just rescued. This boy has just intervened. Well, these scenes are well-acted,

  19. aren't they? And so you're watching and you're believing it, right? You're affected by it. You can

  20. identify with it. They're powerful scenes. And these scenes from It's a Wonderful Life,

  21. they affect us, don't they? But here's the deal. And at the risk of popping a sentimental bubble,

  22. It's a Wonderful Life, actually did not happen. It's just a movie. It's a moving movie. Bedford

  23. Falls was actually Seneca Falls, New York. The screenplay was based on a short story that was

  24. first written on a Christmas card. Moving it is. But it never really happened. This morning,

  25. I want to show you a few scenes from a story that actually happened. The real account of the

  26. birth of Christ our King. And these scenes that you're going to see this morning

  27. are to have an effect on us. So would you turn in your Bible to Luke chapter 2? I'm going to read

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  28. verses 1 through 21. And then I'm going to walk you through it. So let's hear God's Word together.

  29. In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

  30. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered,

  31. each to his own town. And Joseph also went to his town, went up from Galilee and from the town of

  32. Nazareth to Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and

  33. lineage of David to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were

  34. there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him

  35. in a swaddling cloth and laid him in a manger because there was no place for them in the inn.

  36. And in the same region, there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

  37. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and

  38. they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news

  39. of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David

  40. David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you. You will find a baby wrapped

  41. in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was the angel, with the angel, a

  42. multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest and on earth.

  43. Peace among those with whom he is pleased. When the angels went away from them into heaven,

  44. and the shepherds said to one another, Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has

  45. happened, which the Lord has made known to us. And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph

  46. and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told

  47. them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary

  48. treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and

  49. praising God for all that they had heard and seen as it had been told them. Verse 21, and at the end of

  50. eight days when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived

  51. in the womb. This is not make-believe. This is not a Hollywood production. This isn't the creation of

  52. someone's mind. It actually happened. There really was a baby miraculously conceived in a

  53. virgin. And born in an animal stall. Who is Christ the King. The birth of this baby was announced by

  54. angels. Three titles. Savior Christ and Lord. This baby was fully God and fully man. As Odd Thomas just said,

  55. the only theanthropic one. Theos God. Anthropos man. There's only one. His name is Jesus.

  56. He's alive and he's reigning. So there's six scenes I want you to see in this passage.

  57. We start in Rome. Then we find ourselves on a dusty road. Then we find ourselves in an animal stall.

  58. And from there we go to a field outside of Bethlehem. Then back to the animal stall. And then the last

  59. scene is eight days later. You ready? Let's go to Rome. Luke chapter 2 verses 1 through 3.

    Luke 2:1–3

  60. Luke begins the birth of Jesus' birth in Rome. He starts with a decree that went out from

  61. Caesar Augustus. Caesar Augustus was the first Caesar under which the Roman Empire began to worship

  62. its Caesar's. Caesar's as gods. A savior of sorts. And Luke begins by pointing us to who is in charge of the

  63. known world? Humanly speaking. It was Caesar Augustus. It was Caesar Augustus who ushered in the Pax Romana,

  64. the peace of Rome. An extended time of peace for the Roman Empire. But don't be mistaken.

  65. This peace was a peace by force. A peace under threat. As if Romans, there was a common understanding.

  66. Hey, don't rock the boat and everybody will be happy.

  67. But if you rock the boat, you will find a Roman legion on your front doorstep before you can say Pax Romana.

  68. So look at what Caesar does. He issues a decree that everyone in the Roman Empire must register.

  69. Register for what? Probably a tax. It takes money to run an empire.

  70. And in order to register, everybody must go to their place of birth.

  71. And so in verse 3, everybody goes.

  72. Caesar speaks. Everybody listens.

  73. Everybody obeys.

  74. He issues a decree and everybody obeys.

  75. Caesar exerted some kind of power, didn't he?

  76. It's impressive.

  77. It's impressive.

  78. He issues a decree. It's obeyed.

  79. And one is left that he is in charge.

  80. What he says goes.

  81. Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem as a result.

  82. Because Joseph is a descendant of David.

  83. Which means Bethlehem was his hometown.

  84. But we know there's more to this than meets the eye.

  85. There's someone greater than Caesar who's orchestrating all these events in order to carry out his purpose for the fullness of time.

  86. What was to happen in Bethlehem would be of cosmic and eternal proportions.

  87. All heaven has been waiting, anticipating the birth of the Christ.

  88. Let me just read you the prophecy I read earlier.

  89. 700 years earlier.

  90. Micah 5.2.

  91. It speaks of where the Messiah would be born.

  92. The long-awaited king.

  93. And then it also says something about who this king is.

  94. But to you, O Bethlehem, Epapha,

  95. who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,

  96. from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel.

  97. Messiah. King.

  98. Whose origin is from of old.

  99. From ancient days.

  100. The one to be born in Bethlehem would be a king.

  101. And not any king.

  102. This is actually the ancient of days being born.

  103. God in the flesh.

  104. Emmanuel.

  105. There's someone greater than Caesar orchestrating these events in Luke chapter 2, 1 through 3.

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  106. What God had said 700 years earlier,

  107. He is bringing it to pass.

  108. So scene 1 begins in Rome with a guy claiming to be a God,

  109. a savior of source, who ushers in a kind of peace.

  110. He's issued a decree,

  111. but we know that it's actually God at work.

  112. God's in charge.

  113. Caesar is fulfilling God's purposes.

  114. And the God who was reigning over the nations back then,

  115. is reigning over the nations today.

  116. Same God.

  117. So we move to scene 2.

  118. Verses 4 and 5 of Dusty Road.

  119. Joseph and Mary are on their way.

  120. They are heeding Caesar's decree,

  121. who we actually know is God's will.

  122. God is getting something done.

  123. So remember,

  124. Mary conceived this child in Nazareth.

  125. And Nazareth is in the northern part of Israel.

  126. And Micah 5, 2 says,

  127. the Messiah needs to be born in Bethlehem,

  128. which is due south.

  129. About 60, 70 miles south.

  130. And so this decree by Caesar is actually God's means

  131. by which he's getting this 14-year-old pregnant girl

  132. from Nazareth to Bethlehem to fulfill Micah 5, 2.

  133. Is that amazing?

  134. Well, as the crow flies,

  135. it would have been 60, 70 miles.

  136. But we learn from John 4,

  137. Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans.

  138. And in order for Mary and Joseph to go straight down,

  139. they'd have to go through Samaria.

  140. So they probably took kind of a route that started south

  141. and they went around Samaria and back through to Bethlehem.

  142. So it was probably 80 or 90 miles all said and done.

  143. Now, imagine.

  144. Guys, this is going to be more difficult to imagine for you.

  145. Ladies, this might be a little easier for you.

  146. Imagine a 14-year-old girl who is nine months pregnant

  147. without her mother,

  148. having to travel 80 to 90 miles,

  149. either by foot or on donkey.

  150. It would have been very uncomfortable,

  151. to say the least, don't you think?

  152. Physically uncomfortable,

  153. emotionally uncomfortable.

  154. Can this baby be coming today

  155. on this road?

  156. What you need to see is that this 80 to 90 mile journey

  157. was God's sovereign plan

  158. being worked out step by step.

  159. According to Caesar's decree,

  160. they're going to go register for a tax.

  161. According to God's decree,

  162. they're going to fulfill Micah 5-2.

  163. The Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem.

  164. God's making it clear

  165. that this baby boy

  166. is going to be of the line of David.

  167. Fulfilling the promise of 2 Samuel 7

  168. in which God promises to David,

  169. you'll always have someone on the throne.

  170. You're going to have one day a forever king

  171. reigning forever on your throne.

  172. So this 80 to 90 mile journey

  173. on a dry and dusty road,

  174. it's essential.

  175. It's an essential part of God's plan

  176. for the fullness of time.

  177. God's in charge.

  178. He's bringing it to pass.

  179. He's bringing to pass

  180. His plan of salvation for all people.

  181. Scene 3.

  182. Scene 3.

  183. Scene 3.

  184. We get to an animal stall.

  185. And when we get there,

  186. we're hearing a baby crying.

  187. Joseph and Mary

  188. arrived safely in Bethlehem.

  189. This is verses 6 and 7.

  190. But it turns out when they arrive,

  191. a lot of other people have showed up

  192. because they've got a register too.

  193. And so there's no open rooms at the inn.

  194. Apparently there was just

  195. one inn in Bethlehem.

  196. Bethlehem was not a big town at all.

  197. Now imagine with me,

  198. here is a modern interpretation

  199. of this event.

  200. Joseph and Mary

  201. pull up into Bethlehem

  202. in his well-used F-150

  203. because he is a carpenter.

  204. They pull up into Bethlehem

  205. and they see the neon light

  206. above the only inn in Bethlehem.

  207. And it's called

  208. the Bethleh Inn.

  209. Do you see it?

  210. And as they pull up,

  211. they're both looking at the vacancy sign

  212. in neon.

  213. And as they pull up,

  214. there is vacancy.

  215. And as soon as Joseph puts it in park,

  216. guess what turns on?

  217. No vacancy.

  218. Their hearts would have dropped

  219. when they heard the news.

  220. Imagine,

  221. she's nine months pregnant.

  222. They show up,

  223. there's no place to say.

  224. Mary's thinking,

  225. where am I going to have this baby?

  226. Joseph's thinking,

  227. where's she going to have this baby?

  228. Nobody seems to care.

  229. So Joseph and Mary

  230. are left to make the most

  231. of what's available to them.

  232. And so they

  233. probably settle down

  234. in some kind of animal stall

  235. or cave

  236. that's connected to this inn.

  237. It would have been

  238. very rough.

  239. Stale hay.

  240. Dirty animals.

  241. It would have been

  242. smelly.

  243. And then the time

  244. came for Mary

  245. to deliver this baby.

  246. And remember,

  247. she's 14

  248. and her mom's not there.

  249. It would have been tough.

  250. I mean, seriously,

  251. Joseph is there.

  252. Joseph is there.

  253. And with the baby,

  254. a new smell

  255. enters the stable.

  256. There's the stale hay.

  257. There's the dirty animals.

  258. And now the smell of birth.

  259. This was very surreal.

  260. Our king was born

  261. in the humblest of places.

  262. He was not born

  263. into prestige,

  264. power,

  265. or privilege

  266. like Caesar.

  267. Our king was born

  268. to a peasant

  269. in an animal stall.

  270. When Christ was born,

  271. he in no way

  272. ceased to be God.

  273. Rather,

  274. it was the eternal God

  275. who took on human flesh

  276. what he did give up

  277. was the glory

  278. that was his in heaven.

  279. He made himself nothing.

  280. He went from

  281. the glories of heaven

  282. surrounded by angels

  283. singing his praises

  284. to stale hay

  285. in a stable

  286. surrounded by

  287. lowing animals.

  288. It was quite a change of venue.

  289. He made himself nothing.

  290. He became one of us.

  291. Why?

  292. So that he

  293. can identify with us

  294. in every way

  295. yet without sin.

  296. He understands.

  297. He's walked in our shoes.

  298. God became a man.

  299. God.

  300. What happened

  301. in this animal stall

  302. in one sense

  303. was very ordinary.

  304. But it was also

  305. extraordinary.

  306. Because the eternal God

  307. for the first time

  308. took on human flesh.

  309. We sing this song,

  310. O come all ye faithful

  311. at Christmas time.

  312. And it's got this line,

  313. very God

  314. begotten,

  315. not created.

  316. And we're singing

  317. about Jesus.

  318. Very God.

  319. He's God.

  320. Begotten,

  321. not created.

  322. What's being said there

  323. when we sing that

  324. is this.

  325. This child is fully God

  326. and fully man,

  327. born of a virgin.

  328. But when Jesus was born,

  329. it's not as if

  330. the second person

  331. of the Trinity

  332. came into existence

  333. at that moment.

  334. He already existed.

  335. What we're singing about

  336. when we say

  337. very God begotten,

  338. not created,

  339. it is that

  340. the second person

  341. of the Trinity

  342. is taking on

  343. for the first time

  344. flesh.

  345. This is unbelievable.

  346. Begotten,

  347. not created.

  348. God became a man.

  349. He took on flesh

  350. in order to be

  351. our Savior.

  352. So what we see happening

  353. in scene three

  354. is that the birth

  355. of Christ

  356. took place

  357. in the humblest

  358. of circumstances.

  359. Which stands

  360. in stark contrast

  361. to what's going on

  362. in Rome.

  363. The King of Kings

  364. and the Lord of Lords

  365. was born

  366. in a very humble

  367. little town

  368. of Bethlehem.

  369. And God's Word

  370. was fulfilled.

  371. Micah 5.2

  372. Fulfilled

  373. as God said it would be.

  374. The Ancient of Days

  375. had been born

  376. that day.

  377. Scene 4.

  378. This is verses

  379. 8-14.

  380. A field outside

  381. of Bethlehem.

  382. It's a dramatic

  383. change of scenes.

  384. We move from

  385. an animal stall

  386. to an open field.

  387. Shepherds

  388. are tending their flock.

  389. It's evening.

  390. Now,

  391. if you were to rank

  392. a shepherd

  393. in social standing

  394. at that time,

  395. they would have come

  396. in a click

  397. above lepers.

  398. They were despised

  399. and looked down

  400. upon because

  401. of their occupation.

  402. They were seen

  403. as perpetually unclean

  404. because they were

  405. always with animals.

  406. So it's very important

  407. to note

  408. that when the

  409. angel of the Lord

  410. comes to announce

  411. the birth of Christ

  412. the Messiah,

  413. he appears

  414. to shepherds.

  415. nobody's.

  416. But God knows

  417. and loves

  418. nobody's.

  419. God is interested

  420. in the most

  421. ordinary of people.

  422. Like you

  423. and like me.

  424. It was nighttime

  425. so it would have

  426. been dark.

  427. The angel of the Lord

  428. appears and the glory

  429. of the Lord

  430. shone around them.

  431. The shepherds,

  432. verse 9,

  433. were terrified.

  434. They didn't know

  435. what's happening.

  436. This came out

  437. of nowhere.

  438. They were overwhelmed.

  439. What's going to

  440. happen to us?

  441. The angel's quick

  442. to comfort.

  443. Fear not.

  444. Fear not.

  445. This angel hadn't

  446. come to warn

  447. or destroy.

  448. This angel came

  449. to announce

  450. something wonderful.

  451. good news.

  452. Read to me

  453. verse 10.

  454. The angel

  455. speaking to the

  456. shepherds.

  457. Fear not

  458. for behold

  459. I bring you

  460. good news

  461. of great joy

  462. that will be

  463. for all the people.

  464. Good news.

  465. Great joy

  466. for all the people.

  467. It literally

  468. reads like this.

  469. Fear not

  470. for behold

  471. I am good

  472. newsing you

  473. with great joy

  474. for all people.

  475. the Greek word

  476. is

  477. evangelizomai.

  478. It's the word

  479. we get

  480. the word

  481. from which

  482. we get

  483. evangelize.

  484. It's like

  485. the angel

  486. is saying

  487. hey I am

  488. evangelizing you

  489. with great joy

  490. for all people.

  491. I'm good

  492. newsing you guys.

  493. I'm

  494. gospelizing you.

  495. the angel

  496. has appeared

  497. to proclaim

  498. good news

  499. and what

  500. is that

  501. good news?

  502. What is

  503. at the heart

  504. of this

  505. announcement

  506. of good news

  507. for all people?

  508. What is it?

  509. Who is it?

  510. It's all about

  511. this baby.

  512. Look at verse 11.

  513. The angel

  514. says

  515. for

  516. he's going to

  517. point to the

  518. content of the

  519. good news.

  520. For unto you

  521. is born

  522. this day

  523. in the city

  524. of David

  525. a Savior

  526. who is

  527. Christ

  528. the Lord.

  529. In a very

  530. short span

  531. this angel

  532. announces

  533. the good news

  534. and it has to do

  535. with this

  536. baby

  537. and he gives

  538. him three

  539. titles.

  540. Savior

  541. Christ

  542. Lord

  543. Savior

  544. this baby

  545. is a rescuer.

  546. As God

  547. in the flesh

  548. he would

  549. rescue a people

  550. from the

  551. oppression

  552. and tyranny

  553. of sin

  554. death

  555. and the devil.

  556. That's what this

  557. little baby is going to do.

  558. Christ

  559. or King

  560. this baby

  561. is the long

  562. awaited Messiah

  563. the long

  564. awaited King

  565. of David

  566. God

  567. in the flesh

  568. ancient of days

  569. here today

  570. the descendant of David

  571. who would reign forever

  572. on David's throne

  573. this is the one

  574. he is the King

  575. of Kings

  576. lying in that name.

  577. he is the Lord

  578. there is coming

  579. a day

  580. in which every

  581. knee shall bow

  582. and every tongue

  583. confess

  584. that this baby

  585. is Lord

  586. of all

  587. master

  588. of all

  589. you know

  590. the

  591. in Matthew's account

  592. the wise men

  593. got it right

  594. remember

  595. they

  596. bowed

  597. before this baby

  598. at the heart

  599. of the gospel

  600. is not a math

  601. equation

  602. at the heart

  603. of the gospel

  604. is a person

  605. it's all about

  606. Jesus

  607. Savior

  608. Christ

  609. Lord

  610. Emmanuel

  611. Paul talked

  612. about it this way

  613. Colossians 1

  614. 28

  615. Him

  616. we proclaim

  617. and that's

  618. exactly what

  619. this angel

  620. is doing

  621. this angel

  622. is proclaiming

  623. Christ

  624. Jesus

  625. is the

  626. Christ

  627. the gospel

  628. is all about

  629. the person

  630. work of

  631. Jesus Christ

  632. there's more

  633. going on here

  634. notice that this

  635. good news

  636. about Jesus

  637. brings great joy

  638. for those who

  639. receive it

  640. it's the great

  641. joy of salvation

  642. those who would

  643. put their faith

  644. in this baby

  645. and trust him

  646. they would

  647. experience the joy

  648. of rescue

  649. the joy of

  650. redemption

  651. the joy of

  652. adoption

  653. salvation

  654. and this great

  655. joy can be found

  656. in no one

  657. else but

  658. Jesus

  659. salvation is

  660. found in no

  661. one nowhere

  662. else other

  663. than Jesus

  664. no other name

  665. under heaven

  666. by which man

  667. can be saved

  668. Jesus is that

  669. name

  670. this great joy

  671. of salvation

  672. found in Christ

  673. is for all

  674. people

  675. Jesus

  676. is the Savior

  677. the King

  678. the Lord

  679. of all

  680. nations

  681. and he's

  682. gathering for

  683. himself a

  684. people from

  685. every tribe

  686. tongue and

  687. nation

  688. a people that

  689. see him for

  690. who he is

  691. and joyfully

  692. turn from sin

  693. and joyfully

  694. trust in him

  695. alone

  696. for salvation

  697. well let's go

  698. back to the

  699. field

  700. the angel

  701. says in

  702. verse 12

  703. hey go see

  704. for yourself

  705. I'm not

  706. making this

  707. up

  708. this baby

  709. which I'm

  710. telling you

  711. about

  712. you can

  713. go see

  714. right now

  715. he's wrapped

  716. in swaddling

  717. clothes

  718. lying in a

  719. feeding trough

  720. at the

  721. Bethlehem

  722. in

  723. if that had

  724. not been

  725. enough

  726. look at

  727. verses 13

  728. and 14

  729. the angel

  730. of the Lord

  731. that brought

  732. this good

  733. news

  734. is then

  735. joined by

  736. a multitude

  737. of heavenly

  738. hosts

  739. don't think

  740. barbershop

  741. quartet

  742. of angels

  743. we're not

  744. singing glory

  745. to God

  746. in the highest

  747. here in

  748. four part

  749. harmony

  750. what's going

  751. on here

  752. is all

  753. of the

  754. heavenly

  755. host

  756. has

  757. emptied

  758. heaven

  759. to

  760. declare

  761. and mark

  762. this day

  763. this is

  764. monumental

  765. this is

  766. historic

  767. for the

  768. fullness of

  769. time had

  770. come

  771. when God

  772. sent his

  773. son born

  774. of a woman

  775. born under

  776. the law

  777. to redeem

  778. those who

  779. were under

  780. the law

  781. what the

  782. angels knew

  783. and what they

  784. were singing

  785. about

  786. is that

  787. this baby

  788. is bringing

  789. with him

  790. a cosmic

  791. eternal

  792. change

  793. they sing

  794. glory to

  795. God in

  796. the highest

  797. and on

  798. earth

  799. peace among

  800. those whom

  801. God is

  802. pleased

  803. they're saying

  804. praise God

  805. for his

  806. glorious plan

  807. of salvation

  808. that brings

  809. real peace

  810. to real

  811. sinners

  812. praise God

  813. for all

  814. who willfully

  815. bow their

  816. knee and

  817. experience

  818. fullness of

  819. peace

  820. a full

  821. and lasting

  822. peace

  823. not by

  824. threat

  825. but a

  826. peace

  827. by grace

  828. the

  829. Savior is

  830. God's

  831. gift to

  832. sinners

  833. and the

  834. angels knew

  835. it

  836. they knew

  837. that God

  838. is changing

  839. the course

  840. of eternity

  841. with this

  842. baby

  843. and they

  844. glorify

  845. God for

  846. it

  847. now

  848. Jesus

  849. wasn't

  850. born so

  851. that we

  852. can have

  853. a holiday

  854. Jesus

  855. wasn't

  856. born

  857. so that

  858. you can

  859. get out

  860. of school

  861. Jesus

  862. wasn't

  863. born so

  864. that we

  865. can boost

  866. our economy

  867. with all

  868. sorts of

  869. purchases

  870. Jesus

  871. was born

  872. in order to

  873. rescue sinners

  874. from their

  875. sins

  876. that's why

  877. he was

  878. born

  879. scene for

  880. this baby

  881. born

  882. and it's

  883. marked with

  884. this angelic

  885. host singing

  886. God's praises

  887. the first

  888. Christmas

  889. day

  890. it's historic

  891. God

  892. has arrived

  893. on the

  894. scene

  895. as a

  896. man

  897. right

  898. according

  899. to

  900. plan

  901. scene

  902. five

  903. back to

  904. the animal

  905. stall

  906. at the

  907. Bethlehem

  908. Shepherds

  909. are breathing

  910. heavy

  911. because

  912. verse 16

  913. they run

  914. there

  915. they're

  916. obeying

  917. what the

  918. angel told

  919. them to

  920. do

  921. go check

  922. it out

  923. and so

  924. they go

  925. and check

  926. it out

  927. they're

  928. very aware

  929. that God

  930. has revealed

  931. this to

  932. them

  933. they're

  934. very aware

  935. that this

  936. is monumental

  937. they arrive

  938. at the

  939. animal stall

  940. and find

  941. the baby

  942. in the

  943. manger

  944. just as

  945. the angel

  946. said

  947. and still

  948. trying to

  949. catch their

  950. breath

  951. they're just

  952. saying to

  953. anybody who

  954. would listen

  955. what the

  956. angel had

  957. made known

  958. to them

  959. what is that

  960. that this

  961. baby is

  962. descended of

  963. David

  964. and he is

  965. savior

  966. he's the

  967. Christ

  968. he is the

  969. Lord

  970. this is

  971. the Messiah

  972. what I want

  973. you to see

  974. here is this

  975. the response

  976. verse 18

  977. they wonder

  978. verse 19

  979. Mary

  980. treasure

  981. verse 19

  982. again

  983. Mary

  984. pondered

  985. verse 20

  986. these

  987. shepherds

  988. go back

  989. to their

  990. fields

  991. glorifying

  992. and praising

  993. God

  994. it's a

  995. worshipful

  996. response

  997. to this

  998. news

  999. this

  1000. newborn

  1001. king

  1002. brings

  1003. about

  1004. worship

  1005. in our

  1006. hearts

  1007. for who

  1008. he is

  1009. so what

  1010. should

  1011. characterize

  1012. your heart

  1013. this

  1014. Christmas

  1015. worship

  1016. wonder

  1017. that God

  1018. would become

  1019. a man

  1020. treasure

  1021. that God

  1022. became a

  1023. man to

  1024. save you

  1025. ponder

  1026. that this

  1027. was God's

  1028. plan from

  1029. before the

  1030. foundation of

  1031. the world

  1032. it's huge

  1033. glorify

  1034. and praise

  1035. rejoice

  1036. that this

  1037. Christmas

  1038. God has

  1039. revealed himself

  1040. to you

  1041. and that you

  1042. have bowed

  1043. your knee

  1044. to him

  1045. the king

  1046. of kings

  1047. and if you

  1048. haven't bowed

  1049. your knee

  1050. to him

  1051. what a

  1052. great

  1053. Christmas

  1054. it would

  1055. be if

  1056. you did

  1057. if you're

  1058. not a

  1059. Christian

  1060. would you

  1061. receive the

  1062. greatest gift

  1063. ever given

  1064. would you

  1065. receive

  1066. salvation

  1067. in Christ

  1068. by faith

  1069. alone

  1070. you just

  1071. need to

  1072. say I'll

  1073. take it

  1074. scene five

  1075. we see this

  1076. worshipful

  1077. response

  1078. scene six

  1079. eight days

  1080. later

  1081. were finally

  1082. told this

  1083. baby's name

  1084. Jesus

  1085. Joseph and

  1086. Mary had

  1087. obeyed what

  1088. the angel

  1089. had told

  1090. Mary to

  1091. name this

  1092. child

  1093. Jesus

  1094. literally

  1095. means

  1096. Savior

  1097. Jesus the

  1098. Savior

  1099. Jesus the

  1100. Christ

  1101. Jesus the

  1102. Lord

  1103. and just

  1104. in case

  1105. you've

  1106. forgotten

  1107. Jesus is

  1108. no longer

  1109. lying in

  1110. the manger

  1111. he lived a

  1112. sinless life

  1113. he died on

  1114. the cross

  1115. for sinners

  1116. like you

  1117. and me

  1118. he was

  1119. raised on

  1120. the third

  1121. day defeating

  1122. sin death

  1123. and the

  1124. devil and

  1125. he's ascended

  1126. into heaven

  1127. where he sits

  1128. at the right

  1129. hand of the

  1130. father awaiting

  1131. the day in

  1132. which he

  1133. returns and

  1134. when he comes

  1135. back you know

  1136. what he's

  1137. bringing with

  1138. him fullness

  1139. of justice

  1140. completeness

  1141. of peace

  1142. he wipes

  1143. out all

  1144. leukemia

  1145. no more

  1146. war

  1147. no more

  1148. tornado

  1149. tsunamis

  1150. cleans it

  1151. up

  1152. this baby

  1153. whose birth

  1154. we celebrate

  1155. this Wednesday

  1156. he would be

  1157. great

  1158. because he's

  1159. the great

  1160. I am

  1161. six scenes

  1162. of a real

  1163. story

  1164. not produced

  1165. by Hollywood

  1166. this is God's

  1167. plan

  1168. and our

  1169. response

  1170. is worship

  1171. the birth of

  1172. Christ our

  1173. King has

  1174. changed everything

  1175. so we

  1176. with the

  1177. angel

  1178. proclaim Jesus

  1179. as Savior

  1180. King

  1181. Lord

  1182. and we say

  1183. glory to God

  1184. in the highest

  1185. and peace on

  1186. earth to all

  1187. men who bow

  1188. their knee to

  1189. him

  1190. Merry Christmas

  1191. let's pray

  1192. thank you

  1193. for the

  1194. canát

  1195. see you

  1196. here

  1197. in the highest

  1198. game

  1199. what

  1202. a

  1203. kind
