  1. Young people in the room, if you're living right now with your parents,

  2. you're dependent on them in some way,

  3. what happens in you when this happens?

  4. Honey, we go clean your room.

  5. Oh, sweetheart, that's not going to work.

  6. Would you go change?

  7. I think you've got to go finish your homework.

  8. I know they want you to come go see that movie,

  9. but that's an inappropriate movie.

  10. You can't go.

  11. Children in the room, here's what I want to help you see.

  12. When your parents ask you to do something,

  13. ask you not to do something,

  14. I want you to see someone standing behind your parents, Jesus.

  15. And you know what Jesus is saying to you?

  16. Do it for me.

  17. Obey your parents for me.

  18. Honor them for me.

  19. Do it for me.

  20. So would you look at Ephesians chapter 6, 1 through 4.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  21. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

  22. Honor your father and your mother.

  23. This is the first commandment with a promise.

  24. That it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.

  25. Verse 4.

  26. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger,

  27. but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

  28. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

  29. Children in the room, live for Jesus.

  30. Live for Jesus.

  31. Obey your parents.

  32. Live for Christ by obeying your mother and your father.

  33. Four points this morning to help you see this.

  34. That to live for Christ is to honor your mom and your dad.

  35. Four points.

  36. Here's the first one.

  37. Ready?

  38. Point number one.

  39. God's greenhouse of grace is the family.

  40. God's greenhouse of grace is the family.

  41. And the goal of the family is for children to grow in godliness.

  42. God's greenhouse of grace is the family.

  43. And the goal is for children to grow in godliness.

  44. We see that in Ephesians 6, 1 through 4.

  45. Roles here of children and of parents.

  46. God wants us to be fully aware of what he wants for children and parents

  47. together in a Christian home moving forward.

  48. So I just want to set out a vision for us as a church

  49. in terms of what's the purpose of a family.

  50. So parents, moms and dads, you're like the greenhouse keepers.

  51. You've been given the responsibility of growing your kids, of raising your children.

  52. That means providing a safe environment, loving environment for them,

  53. making sure the temperature's right, making sure there's enough moisture in the air,

  54. making sure you're doing weed and feed, you know, that kind of stuff around the little kids,

  55. making sure they're growing right.

  56. When it boils right down to it, parents,

  57. you're the ones who are making decisions of what plant goes where, when.

  58. You're making sure your little plants are fed with God's word.

  59. It's like miracle grow.

  60. You want to make sure they're in the best soil at the right time.

  61. More on that in a couple weeks.

  62. But what I want to point out here at the forefront of this sermon is that, parents,

  63. your task is to create a gracious environment in your home

  64. in which your children thrive and grow in godliness.

  65. The family is God's greenhouse of grace where children grow in godliness.

  66. That's the family.

  67. We need to provide food, clothing, shelter.

  68. Even non-Christian parents provide that.

  69. But what sets us apart is godliness.

  70. Children, if parents are the greenhouse keepers, you're the little plants.

  71. Maybe not so little.

  72. The goal of your parents, what God calls them to,

  73. is to provide a place for you to grow

  74. until you're ready to be planted outside the greenhouse.

  75. Your parents are tasked with preparing you

  76. to be able to live for Jesus on your own.

  77. That's what they're seeking to do.

  78. That's the goal of this greenhouse.

  79. It's to position you for godliness.

  80. And the timing is very important.

  81. You know, your parents do know things that you don't know.

  82. That's true.

  83. And they want to be able to help you

  84. and position you

  85. that when you one day you leave your home,

  86. that you will be able to thrive.

  87. That you're ready.

  88. Someday you're going to leave your parents' greenhouse

  89. and start a greenhouse of your own.

  90. One thing to note,

  91. God, young people,

  92. God has placed you in your parents' greenhouse.

  93. It's no mistake.

  94. It's no accident.

  95. It wasn't lucky, kind of draw,

  96. very intentional.

  97. God wants you to grow where you're at

  98. in the family you're in.

  99. You know, when we're talking about the greenhouse

  100. and we're talking about families,

  101. it's very important, too,

  102. to talk about the local church.

  103. What's the relationship between a family,

  104. a greenhouse of godliness,

  105. and a local church?

  106. How does that work?

  107. Well, if you think about a local church like this way,

  108. with this analogy, it would be like this.

  109. A local church is then a network of greenhouses

  110. linked together by Christ.

  111. I mean, we're all looking to God's Word

  112. to direct us

  113. in how to live in a manner worthy of our holy calling,

  114. whether that's as parents or as children.

  115. We're all looking to the same book.

  116. We're all looking to Jesus to help us with this.

  117. And so there's no need to pit the family

  118. against the church

  119. or the church against the family.

  120. It doesn't need to do that.

  121. The church is a network of greenhouses

  122. to support families,

  123. individual greenhouses for the glory of Christ.

  124. A church doesn't take over a family.

  125. A church comes alongside a family,

  126. helps them.

  127. I mean, this is what we see

  128. just played out in front of us

  129. in Ephesians chapter 6.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  130. Do you know what happens

  131. when this arrived in Ephesus that first time?

  132. It was read to a congregation,

  133. a local body.

  134. It was read out loud to them.

  135. And so there were parents and children in the room.

  136. And so in the context of a local church,

  137. God's Word went out

  138. in order to instruct them

  139. of what their roles were in their families.

  140. That's what's going on right here, right now.

  141. And so the church is here

  142. to come alongside

  143. and support what God is doing

  144. and families.

  145. It's mutually beneficial.

  146. So there's a place,

  147. a role for parents in the greenhouse,

  148. a role for children.

  149. The greenhouse is kind of interconnected

  150. in the local church.

  151. But I just want to reiterate

  152. the goal.

  153. The goal of the family,

  154. the goal of the greenhouse

  155. is godliness.

  156. Do you know what AKA means?

  157. Also known as AKA?

  158. Bruce Banner,

  159. AKA

  160. The Hulk.

  161. Peter Parker,

  162. AKA

  163. Spider-Man.

  164. Ben Hacker,

  165. AKA

  166. Man Bear.

  167. Clark Kent,

  168. AKA

  169. Superman.

  170. Superman.

  171. Godliness as an AKA.

  172. Christ-likeness.

  173. When we talk about

  174. the goal of the family

  175. being godliness,

  176. we're talking about

  177. the goal being Christ.

  178. Aiming our children

  179. at Jesus.

  180. We want to

  181. instruct children

  182. about Jesus.

  183. We want to help them

  184. love Jesus.

  185. We want to help them

  186. obey Jesus.

  187. We want to help them

  188. become like Jesus.

  189. And it's not limited children.

  190. It's parents too.

  191. We're all in this together.

  192. Jesus is the goal.

  193. So God's greenhouse

  194. of grace,

  195. the family,

  196. the goal

  197. is children

  198. growing in godliness.

  199. Christ-likeness.

  200. And we do that

  201. together as a church.

  202. So that's number one.

  203. Just understanding

  204. of what the family is

  205. and what the family is for.

  206. The second thing

  207. I want you to see

  208. this morning is

  209. what God requires

  210. of children.

  211. You see that

  212. in Ephesians 6.1.

  213. Children

  214. obey your parents.

  215. Children.

  216. That's a rather

  217. broad category.

  218. Every person

  219. in this room

  220. is a child.

  221. All of us

  222. either

  223. have parents

  224. or have had

  225. parents.

  226. Specifically,

  227. Paul is

  228. aiming at

  229. a particular

  230. group of children.

  231. children.

  232. Even in this room

  233. right now.

  234. And the children

  235. Paul has in mind

  236. here are those

  237. children who are

  238. still living in the

  239. greenhouse.

  240. Who are still

  241. living at home.

  242. Who are still

  243. dependent on their

  244. parents.

  245. And we see that

  246. in Ephesians 6.4.

  247. When fathers are

  248. instructed,

  249. do not provoke

  250. your children to

  251. anger,

  252. but bring them up.

  253. Nurture them

  254. in the discipline

  255. and instruction

  256. of the Lord.

  257. the children

  258. he's talking

  259. to are in

  260. need of

  261. nurture.

  262. They're in

  263. need of

  264. growing up.

  265. That's who

  266. he's talking

  267. to here.

  268. Children who

  269. are not

  270. quite ready

  271. to move out

  272. of the

  273. greenhouse.

  274. Obviously,

  275. the children

  276. here must be

  277. able to

  278. understand

  279. because Paul

  280. addresses

  281. children.

  282. And just

  283. to note,

  284. these children

  285. are in the

  286. congregation.

  287. Children are

  288. welcome here.

  289. So,

  290. if you are

  291. in this room

  292. and you're

  293. wondering,

  294. is Paul God

  295. talking to me

  296. here?

  297. The question

  298. is,

  299. are you still

  300. dependent on

  301. your parents?

  302. Are you living

  303. in their home?

  304. Do you need

  305. them for

  306. something?

  307. And if the

  308. answer is yes,

  309. this exhortation

  310. applies to you.

  311. Children,

  312. obey your

  313. parents.

  314. That's the

  315. children.

  316. Now,

  317. children,

  318. notice who

  319. you're to

  320. obey.

  321. Your

  322. parents.

  323. Parents is

  324. plural.

  325. Both parents.

  326. And Paul's

  327. going to call

  328. in some

  329. backup in

  330. just a second

  331. in chapter 6

  332. verses 2

  333. and 3.

  334. And he quotes

  335. Exodus chapter

    Exodus 20:12

  336. 20 verse 12

  337. and he makes

  338. it very clear.

  339. Honor your

  340. father and

  341. your mother.

  342. Both parents.

  343. parents.

  344. So whether

  345. your parents

  346. are married

  347. or whether

  348. they're divorced

  349. or whether

  350. they're remarried,

  351. if you're a

  352. child in the

  353. room living

  354. with your

  355. parents,

  356. you are to

  357. obey them.

  358. Both of

  359. them.

  360. And notice,

  361. it's your

  362. parents.

  363. God has

  364. entrusted you

  365. to them.

  366. Children,

  367. in the room,

  368. if you would

  369. now look to

  370. the parent to

  371. your right or

  372. left,

  373. let me make

  374. some introductions.

  375. Children,

  376. this person

  377. next to you

  378. is the one

  379. that God

  380. has given

  381. the responsibility

  382. to raise

  383. you.

  384. That's who

  385. they are.

  386. It's not

  387. some lottery

  388. draw.

  389. God

  390. specifically

  391. placed this

  392. child in

  393. your home.

  394. Children,

  395. it's no

  396. accident that

  397. you're there.

  398. So whether

  399. it's

  400. from being

  401. naturally born

  402. into the

  403. family that

  404. you're in,

  405. or you

  406. are adopted

  407. into the

  408. family that

  409. you're in,

  410. or that

  411. there's some

  412. kind of

  413. guardianship,

  414. that person

  415. is someone

  416. you must

  417. obey.

  418. Now,

  419. I just want

  420. to give you

  421. a sneak peek

  422. at something,

  423. kids.

  424. A little bit

  425. more of what

  426. God is going

  427. to require

  428. of your

  429. parents.

  430. We see it

  431. stated explicitly

  432. in verse

  433. four.

  434. fathers,

  435. do not

  436. provoke your

  437. children.

  438. But all

  439. throughout the

  440. Bible,

  441. there's an

  442. address to,

  443. it includes

  444. both mom

  445. and dad.

  446. Here's what

  447. your parents

  448. are going to

  449. seek to do.

  450. And here's

  451. why there's

  452. a call to

  453. obey them.

  454. Your parents

  455. are going to

  456. provide for you.

  457. They're going

  458. to protect you.

  459. But God is

  460. calling them

  461. to more

  462. than that.

  463. They want

  464. to be a

  465. part of

  466. growing you

  467. to become

  468. like Jesus.

  469. And so,

  470. way back

  471. in your

  472. Bible,

  473. in the

  474. book of

  475. Deuteronomy,

  476. we read

  477. something very

  478. important.

  479. Deuteronomy

  480. chapter six.

  481. Moses has

  482. just reiterated

  483. the ten

  484. commandments

  485. in Deuteronomy

  486. chapter five.

  487. They're about

  488. to enter the

  489. promised land.

  490. And so,

  491. it is a

  492. kind of

  493. renewing of

  494. the covenant.

  495. And in

  496. chapter six,

  497. verse four,

  498. we read the

  499. Shema.

  500. Hear,

  501. O Israel,

  502. the Lord

  503. our God,

  504. the Lord

  505. is one.

  506. You shall

  507. love the

  508. Lord your

  509. God with

  510. all your

  511. heart,

  512. with all

  513. your soul,

  514. with all

  515. your might.

  516. And these

  517. words that I

  518. command you

  519. today shall

  520. be on your

  521. heart.

  522. Words,

  523. of course,

  524. are the

  525. commands,

  526. the law.

  527. They were

  528. to be on

  529. the heart

  530. of these

  531. adults going

  532. into the

  533. promised land.

  534. They were

  535. to control

  536. their actions.

  537. They were

  538. going to

  539. aim them.

  540. And then

  541. look at

  542. verse seven.

  543. You shall

  544. teach them

  545. diligently to

  546. your children,

  547. and you

  548. shall talk

  549. of them

  550. when you

  551. sit in

  552. your house,

  553. and when

  554. you walk

  555. by the

  556. way,

  557. and when

  558. you lie

  559. down,

  560. and when

  561. you rise.

  562. Do you

  563. know what

  564. miracle grow

  565. is?

  566. Miracle

  567. grow is

  568. like this

  569. super

  570. soil,

  571. that when

  572. you're

  573. planting a

  574. plant,

  575. you put

  576. miracle grow

  577. in,

  578. and it's

  579. like super

  580. nutrients that

  581. the roots of

  582. a plant suck

  583. up, and it

  584. gives them

  585. health, gives

  586. them strength.

  587. And so what

  588. we're being told

  589. here is this,

  590. as parents,

  591. and children,

  592. you've got to be

  593. aware of this,

  594. of what God's

  595. calling your

  596. parents to.

  597. They are to

  598. get God's

  599. word on their

  600. heart, and

  601. then God's

  602. word is going

  603. to go from

  604. their heart

  605. into you.

  606. And so

  607. essentially what

  608. it is, is your

  609. parents are

  610. seeking to get

  611. the soil around

  612. the roots of

  613. your heart,

  614. they're seeking

  615. to put the

  616. miracle grow

  617. of God's

  618. word in

  619. there, so

  620. that you

  621. can grow.

  622. You can

  623. know Jesus,

  624. and love

  625. Jesus, and

  626. obey Him,

  627. and live

  628. for Him.

  629. That's what

  630. God is calling

  631. your parents

  632. to do.

  633. children, you

  634. are to obey

  635. your parents,

  636. and this is

  637. the command

  638. of this

  639. little section

  640. here, obey

  641. your parents

  642. in the Lord.

  643. I need to

  644. make a really

  645. important distinction

  646. here, because

  647. we can miss

  648. something here.

  649. I'm not sure

  650. if you were

  651. here for when

  652. I preached on

  653. the role of

  654. wives to

  655. submit to

  656. their husbands

  657. to the

  658. Lord, but

  659. one of the

  660. important

  661. distinctions to

  662. make is this,

  663. that a husband

  664. and wife are

  665. made in the

  666. image of God.

  667. They are

  668. image bearers of

  669. God, therefore

  670. they are the

  671. same value in

  672. God's sight.

  673. But God calls

  674. them to different

  675. roles according

  676. to their

  677. maleness and

  678. their femaleness.

  679. When we look

  680. at Ephesians

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  681. chapter 6,

  682. 1 through 4,

  683. we've got to

  684. make the same

  685. distinction.

  686. Because a

  687. parent and a

  688. child are both

  689. image bearers of

  690. God.

  691. Therefore, they

  692. are of equal

  693. value in God's

  694. sight.

  695. So, a parent

  696. who has authority

  697. is not more

  698. value to God

  699. than a child

  700. who's to be

  701. playing a

  702. submissive,

  703. obedient role.

  704. They are the

  705. same value in

  706. God's sight,

  707. but they're

  708. called to

  709. different roles

  710. based upon their

  711. relationship according

  712. to God's

  713. design.

  714. And so, they're

  715. to exercise

  716. those roles in

  717. faith.

  718. And what God

  719. is calling a

  720. child to hear is

  721. to obey their

  722. mother and their

  723. father.

  724. To come under

  725. their parents'

  726. God-given

  727. authority to say

  728. yes to their

  729. mom and their

  730. dad.

  731. It is essentially

  732. an act of

  733. humility.

  734. of coming

  735. under your

  736. parents.

  737. Of trusting

  738. God's design.

  739. Trusting that

  740. God has

  741. goodness for

  742. you.

  743. So, to

  744. obey means

  745. to say yes

  746. to your

  747. mother and

  748. your father.

  749. To do what

  750. they ask you

  751. to do.

  752. They have the

  753. right to do

  754. that based

  755. upon God's

  756. design of the

  757. family.

  758. He has good

  759. for you.

  760. I want to

  761. help you kids

  762. think rightly

  763. about obedience.

  764. So, here are

  765. three little

  766. phrases that

  767. are designed to

  768. help you

  769. understand how

  770. to obey when

  771. your parents ask

  772. you to do

  773. something.

  774. You're to

  775. obey right

  776. away, all

  777. the way, with

  778. joy.

  779. You're to

  780. obey right

  781. away, all

  782. the way, with

  783. joy.

  784. Not a delayed

  785. obedience, right

  786. away.

  787. Not a partial

  788. obedience,

  789. but all the

  790. way.

  791. And not

  792. resentful, but

  793. joyful.

  794. And that

  795. last one, to

  796. obey with

  797. joy, that's

  798. the heart-est

  799. one.

  800. It's the

  801. heart-est

  802. one.

  803. joy.

  804. Because it's

  805. possible to

  806. obey right

  807. away, and

  808. all the

  809. way, and

  810. resenting your

  811. parents the

  812. whole time.

  813. Do you know

  814. how to do

  815. that with

  816. joy?

  817. Jesus.

  818. Jesus.

  819. Jesus

  820. called you to

  821. this.

  822. There's a

  823. word you're

  824. going to find

  825. joy.

  826. joy.

  827. So, when

  828. your parents

  829. ask you to

  830. clean your

  831. room, right

  832. away, all

  833. the way, with

  834. joy.

  835. When your

  836. parents ask

  837. you to

  838. clean yourself,

  839. right away, all

  840. the way, with

  841. joy.

  842. Do your

  843. homework, right

  844. away, all

  845. the way, with

  846. joy.

  847. To pick up

  848. after your

  849. dog in the

  850. backyard, right

  851. away, all

  852. the way, with

  853. joy.

  854. Colossians 3.20,

  855. Paul says it

  856. this way,

  857. children, obey

  858. your parents in

  859. everything, for

  860. this pleases the

  861. ruler.

  862. This is sweet

  863. to God when

  864. children obey

  865. this way.

  866. It honors

  867. him.

  868. He loves

  869. it.

  870. But I

  871. got to tell

  872. you, expect

  873. conflict.

  874. Because we

  875. bump heads, we

  876. bump hearts,

  877. don't we?

  878. We ask our

  879. children to do

  880. things.

  881. Children, you

  882. are asked to

  883. do things, and

  884. you don't want

  885. to do it, for

  886. a variety of

  887. reasons.

  888. So, what do

  889. you do?

  890. Here's what God

  891. would say.

  892. You obey your

  893. parents.

  894. You yield to

  895. them.

  896. You say, yes,

  897. okay, I'll do

  898. it.

  899. But is there

  900. room to ask

  901. why?

  902. Yes, there

  903. is.

  904. If your first

  905. response, kids, is

  906. to your parents

  907. when they ask

  908. you to do

  909. something, it's,

  910. but mom, but

  911. dad, take a

  912. deep breath.

  913. Step back.

  914. Don't put up a

  915. defense right

  916. away.

  917. Here's what you

  918. want to ask.

  919. Here's what you

  920. want to say.

  921. Mom, dad, I

  922. want to honor

  923. you by obeying

  924. you, and I'm

  925. going to do

  926. this, but would

  927. you help me

  928. understand why I'm

  929. not seeing it

  930. adding up.

  931. And so if

  932. there's a dad

  933. that's asking

  934. his son to

  935. iron his

  936. underwear every

  937. morning, you

  938. know what?

  939. If the son

  940. asks dad, you

  941. know why, why

  942. do I have to

  943. iron my underwear

  944. every morning?

  945. And the dad

  946. says, you know

  947. what?

  948. It's, it's a

  949. salvati tradition

  950. going back

  951. generations.

  952. Hopefully that

  953. dad's going to

  954. hear himself

  955. saying that, and

  956. he's going to

  957. be like, you

  958. know what?

  959. It's kind of

  960. ridiculous.

  961. Don't worry

  962. about it.

  963. But let's say

  964. your teenage

  965. daughter comes

  966. downstairs in the

  967. kitchen.

  968. This is not

  969. directed to

  970. anybody in the

  971. room.

  972. But let's say

  973. your teenage

  974. daughter comes

  975. down, and she's

  976. wearing a low

  977. cut shirt.

  978. And you're

  979. like, oh boy,

  980. honey, I think

  981. you need to

  982. change your

  983. shirt.

  984. And right

  985. away you can

  986. see in your

  987. daughter that she

  988. doesn't like what

  989. she's hearing.

  990. There is a

  991. place for

  992. daughters to

  993. say, dad, I'll

  994. honor you, and I

  995. will obey you, but

  996. can you help me

  997. understand why?

  998. And so now

  999. dads, moms, you

  1000. have the opportunity

  1001. to talk about

  1002. modesty.

  1003. And you're

  1004. able to say,

  1005. sweetheart, you

  1006. don't want to

  1007. bring boys'

  1008. attention to

  1009. your chest.

  1010. You don't want

  1011. to draw their

  1012. gaze there.

  1013. You want to be

  1014. known for Jesus,

  1015. honey.

  1016. And so that's a

  1017. little too

  1018. immodest.

  1019. So can you

  1020. change?

  1021. You see what's

  1022. going on there?

  1023. We want to give

  1024. explanations to

  1025. things.

  1026. So kids, it's

  1027. okay to ask why.

  1028. Just making sure

  1029. you're asking why

  1030. humbly.

  1031. By the way, there

  1032. is a place to

  1033. actually disobey

  1034. your parents.

  1035. Remember, this

  1036. is children, obey

  1037. your parents in

  1038. the Lord.

  1039. So if your

  1040. parents are

  1041. asking you,

  1042. forbidding you,

  1043. asking you to do

  1044. something that God

  1045. forbids, or

  1046. forbidding you to

  1047. do something that

  1048. God requires, you

  1049. know who your

  1050. allegiance falls to?

  1051. Jesus.

  1052. You know, Jesus

  1053. talked about that.

  1054. He's going to

  1055. divide families.

  1056. It's about as

  1057. important of a

  1058. relationship we get,

  1059. and Jesus is

  1060. saying, hey, it's

  1061. about following me.

  1062. What my experience

  1063. has been, those are

  1064. few and far between

  1065. when parents are

  1066. asking their

  1067. children to do

  1068. something that

  1069. Jesus would

  1070. forbid.

  1071. Children, I

  1072. also want to

  1073. help you understand

  1074. something as

  1075. well.

  1076. Your call to

  1077. obey your

  1078. parents in the

  1079. Lord here is

  1080. for a season.

  1081. What God, the

  1082. timeless claim on

  1083. you is to honor

  1084. your father and

  1085. your mother.

  1086. And for a

  1087. season, that

  1088. honoring is going

  1089. to look like

  1090. obedience.

  1091. obedience.

  1092. Let's just say

  1093. from when you're

  1094. three to twenty, it's

  1095. going to look like

  1096. obedience.

  1097. And then from

  1098. twenty to forty, you

  1099. know what it's

  1100. going to look like?

  1101. How you honor your

  1102. mother and your

  1103. father?

  1104. Seeking advice.

  1105. Respecting them.

  1106. Being in their

  1107. lives.

  1108. Welcoming them into

  1109. your life.

  1110. And then you know

  1111. what?

  1112. From forty on, you

  1113. know what it's

  1114. going to look like?

  1115. How to honor your

  1116. mother and your

  1117. father?

  1118. Caring for them.

  1119. Being with them.

  1120. loving them.

1121. And so all the way

  1122. through our lives, we're

  1123. going to honor our

  1124. mother and our

  1125. father.

  1126. But for this

  1127. particular season,

  1128. zero, two, through

  1129. eighteen or nineteen,

1130. the call on you is to

  1131. obey.

  1132. To obey your mother

  1133. and your father.

1134. You might be asking a

  1135. question here, what if

  1136. my parents are not

  1137. Christians?

  1138. Still binding.

  1139. And so you're to

  1140. obey right away, all

1141. the way with joy for

  1142. Jesus.

  1143. You know what makes

  1144. your parents' job

  1145. really easy?

  1146. Is when you invite

  1147. them in.

  1148. Recently I had a

1149. child of mine come to

1150. me and say, Dad, will

  1151. you help me?

  1152. Will you help me

  1153. follow Jesus?

  1154. Will you help me

  1155. grow?

  1156. That's like a

  1157. lob.

  1158. It's like, oh yes.

1159. Let me direct you to

  1160. your Bible.

1161. Let me aim you at

  1162. Jesus.

  1163. Children, are you

  1164. not obeying your

  1165. parents?

1166. Are you being slow to

  1167. obey your parents?

  1168. Are you partially

  1169. obeying your parents?

  1170. Are you resenting your

  1171. parents as you obey

  1172. them?

  1173. Are you hiding

  1174. something from your

  1175. parents?

  1176. God wants you to

  1177. obey them.

  1178. Do you know what

  1179. backup is?

  1180. Backup TV show?

  1181. This is Adam 793.

  1182. I need backup.

  1183. Stats.

  1184. 39th and Main.

  1185. Whip, whip, whip,

  1186. whip, whip.

  1187. You know what I'm

  1188. talking about?

  1189. Backup?

  1190. The Apostle Paul

  1191. had just made a

  1192. statement.

  1193. Children, obey your

  1194. parents in the Lord.

1195. And then in verses 2

1196. and 3, he calls in

  1197. backup.

  1198. He quotes Exodus

    Exodus 20:12

  1199. chapter 20, verse 12.

1200. I mean, he goes big.

  1201. He goes 10 commandments

  1202. big.

  1203. So what we see,

  1204. point 3, is a

  1205. timeless command with

  1206. a vibrant promise.

  1207. And it's backup.

  1208. The Ten Commandments.

  1209. The Ten Commandments.

  1210. You know, there were

  1211. 613 commandments in the

  1212. Old Testament that

  1213. constituted the law.

  1214. 613.

  1215. That's a lot of

  1216. commandments.

  1217. And the Ten Commandments

  1218. are those commandments

  1219. that apply to everyone

  1220. all the time.

  1221. And so those 613,

  1222. many of which were

  1223. applied to this person

  1224. in this situation.

  1225. So men with oxes,

1226. when your ox falls down,

1227. this is what you do.

  1228. So it's very specific.

1229. And so the Ten Commandments

1230. are kind of the intro

1231. to the rest of the law.

1232. And they are the big ones.

  1233. They are applied to

  1234. everyone all the time.

  1235. And those Ten Commandments

  1236. are actually broken

  1237. into two groups.

  1238. Commandments 1 through 4

  1239. are very much Godward

  1240. in their aim.

  1241. And Commandments 5 through 6

  1242. are very much horizontal,

  1243. dealing with relationships.

  1244. Do you know

  1245. the first commandment

  1246. that deals with

  1247. human relationships?

1248. Do you know which one that is?

  1249. Honor your mother

  1250. and your father.

  1251. It's Commandment 5.

  1252. It's very important.

1253. What Paul is saying here

  1254. by quoting Exodus 20

  1255. is that this

  1256. is of significance.

  1257. Children,

  1258. this is really important.

  1259. What did honor mean

  1260. to the original recipients?

1261. Well, it was a deep,

  1262. deep respect.

  1263. It was very serious.

1264. Can I just turn something,

1265. turn back in your Bibles

  1266. to Exodus chapter 20.

    Exodus 20 chapter mention

1267. I'm going to do this

1268. to show you how serious

  1269. this is

  1270. to honor your father

  1271. and your mother

  1272. in God's eyes.

  1273. I'm not sure

  1274. if you know

1275. this is in your Bible.

  1276. So,

  1277. Exodus chapter 20,

    Exodus 20:12

  1278. verse 12,

  1279. we read,

  1280. honor your father

  1281. and your mother

  1282. that your days

1283. may be long in the land.

  1284. Now,

  1285. turn your page over

  1286. to Exodus chapter 21,

    Exodus 21 chapter mention

  1287. and we're looking

  1288. at verse 15.

  1289. whoever strikes

  1290. his father

  1291. or his mother

  1292. shall be put

  1293. to death.

  1294. Look at verse 17.

  1295. Whoever curses

  1296. his father

  1297. or his mother

  1298. shall be put

  1299. to death.

  1300. Are you picking up

1301. on the weight of this?

  1302. It is incredibly

  1303. important to God.

  1304. The way that you

  1305. respond to your parents

  1306. speaks of your heart

  1307. towards God.

  1308. What I want

  1309. to help you

  1310. to see here

  1311. is this.

  1312. This command,

  1313. children,

  1314. to obey

  1315. your parents,

  1316. it's actually

  1317. a double command.

  1318. It's command

  1319. two times over.

  1320. You are commanded

  1321. to obey your parents

  1322. out of obedience

  1323. to God.

  1324. You obey,

  1325. you honor

  1326. your mom and dad

  1327. out of obedience

  1328. to Jesus.

  1329. So,

  1330. what this means

  1331. is this.

  1332. So,

  1333. when you disobey

  1334. your mom,

  1335. you disobey God.

  1336. Not because your mom

  1337. is God,

  1338. but because God

  1339. has commanded you

  1340. to obey your mom.

  1341. Paul here

  1342. is quoting

  1343. Exodus chapter 20

    Exodus 20 chapter mention

  1344. because he wants

  1345. to help children

  1346. see,

  1347. and us too

  1348. as parents,

  1349. what God

  1350. is wanting

  1351. to get done

  1352. in the family.

  1353. Children must obey

  1354. in order for there

  1355. to be godliness

  1356. in the home.

  1357. So,

  1358. why is Paul

  1359. pointing this out?

  1360. Why is Paul

  1361. calling on

  1362. the backup

  1363. of Exodus 20?

  1364. Well,

  1365. he's saying

  1366. that this is

  1367. a timeless,

  1368. unchanging,

  1369. and universally

  1370. binding command.

  1371. This is true

  1372. all the time.

  1373. So,

  1374. it was true

  1375. for Jews

  1376. back in the day,

  1377. and it's true

  1378. now for Christians.

  1379. You see,

  1380. when Christ

  1381. came on the scene,

  1382. he didn't come

  1383. to abolish the law.

  1384. He actually

  1385. came to fulfill it.

  1386. And we're going

1387. to see in a second

  1388. how he did that

  1389. with this command.

  1390. But what I want

  1391. you to see here

  1392. is this.

  1393. Paul is quoting

  1394. Exodus chapter 20

    Exodus 20 chapter mention

  1395. to give weight

  1396. to his exhortation

  1397. to children.

  1398. It's very serious.

  1399. Now,

  1400. I'm guessing

  1401. some of you

  1402. in the room

  1403. are asking

  1404. a question

  1405. like this.

  1406. What happens

  1407. if I've disobeyed

  1408. my parents?

  1409. What happens

  1410. if I am

  1411. disobeying

  1412. my parents?

  1413. What happens

  1414. if I have

  1415. disobeyed

  1416. my parents?

  1417. So,

  1418. let's just

  1419. kind of

  1420. remove the tension

  1421. in the room.

  1422. Who in their life

  1423. has ever

  1424. disobeyed

  1425. their parents?

  1426. Please raise

  1427. your hand.

  1428. Right.

  1429. Randy Ryan-Earson

  1430. obviously has not.

  1431. I've been waiting

  1432. for months

  1433. to do that,

  1434. Randy.

  1435. Randy.

  1436. We've all

  1437. disobeyed

  1438. our parents.

  1439. So,

  1440. do you know

  1441. what this means?

  1442. God's law

  1443. hasn't changed.

  1444. Do you know

  1445. what it means

  1446. for all of us?

  1447. Each of us

  1448. has broken

  1449. God's timeless,

  1450. unchanging,

  1451. universally

  1452. binding law.

  1453. Which means

  1454. each of us

  1455. is a transgressor.

  1456. Each of us

  1457. is a sinner.

  1458. And what is

  1459. the consequence

  1460. for sinning

  1461. against God

  1462. this way?

  1463. Well,

  1464. if Exodus 21

  1465. says anything

  1466. about that,

  1467. it's very serious.

  1468. Disobeying

  1469. your parents

  1470. results in

  1471. being condemned

  1472. by God

  1473. for the wages

  1474. of sin

  1475. is death.

  1476. we're all

  1477. there

  1478. on this

  1479. command

  1480. alone.

  1481. You raised

  1482. your hand.

  1483. So,

  1484. what do we

  1485. do?

  1486. We look

  1487. to Jesus.

  1488. In Luke 2,

  1489. there's a really

  1490. interesting story

  1491. about Jesus.

  1492. His family

  1493. was in Jerusalem.

  1494. Mary and Joseph

  1495. say,

  1496. hey,

  1497. it's time

  1498. to go back

  1499. to Bethlehem.

  1500. They think

  1501. they pack

  1502. everybody up.

  1503. Jesus is 12

  1504. years old.

  1505. They're on their

  1506. way back

  1507. to Bethlehem

  1508. and they look

  1509. around and

  1510. they're like,

  1511. hey,

  1512. where's Jesus?

  1513. They freak

  1514. out.

  1515. They head

  1516. back to,

  1517. who's ever

  1518. lost a child?

  1519. You know

  1520. what they're

  1521. experiencing.

  1522. They head

  1523. back to

  1524. Jerusalem.

  1525. And do you

  1526. know where

  1527. they find

  1528. Jesus?

  1529. In the

  1530. temple,

  1531. instructing

  1532. the instructors.

  1533. And you

  1534. remember what

  1535. Jesus says

  1536. to them?

  1537. They say,

  1538. Jesus,

  1539. where have

  1540. you been?

  1541. And you

  1542. remember what

  1543. Jesus says?

  1544. Did you not

  1545. know that it

  1546. would be in

  1547. my father's

  1548. house?

  1549. He knew.

  1550. But what I

  1551. want to point

  1552. you to in

  1553. Luke is what

  1554. happens next.

  1555. Luke 2,

    Luke 2:51

  1556. verse 51.

  1557. And after

  1558. they talked

  1559. about this,

  1560. Jesus went

  1561. down with

  1562. them and

  1563. came to

  1564. Nazareth and

  1565. was submissive

  1566. to them.

  1567. Jesus was

  1568. submissive to

  1569. Mary and

  1570. Joseph.

  1571. God in

  1572. the flesh

  1573. obeyed his

  1574. earthly father

  1575. and mother.

  1576. father.

  1577. It's amazing

  1578. to think

  1579. about.

  1580. Jesus did

  1581. what we

  1582. can never

  1583. do.

  1584. He perfectly

  1585. obeyed his

  1586. parents all

  1587. the time.

  1588. Every time he

  1589. was asked to

  1590. do something,

  1591. it was right

  1592. away, all the

  1593. way with joy.

  1594. Every time.

  1595. Every time.

  1596. He did

  1597. something we

  1598. could never

  1599. do.

  1600. He was the

  1601. perfect son.

  1602. And then

  1603. he made the

  1604. perfect sacrifice

  1605. for the

  1606. sons of

  1607. disobedience.

  1608. He died in

  1609. our place.

  1610. He took on

  1611. himself what

  1612. our disobedience

  1613. deserved.

  1614. He bore the

  1615. wrath for

  1616. us.

  1617. So not only

  1618. is he the

  1619. perfect child,

  1620. he's the

  1621. perfect savior.

  1622. All in

  1623. one.

  1624. And when

  1625. we put our

  1626. faith in

  1627. Jesus, not

  1628. only are we

  1629. forgiven of

  1630. all of our

  1631. disobedience,

  1632. but he grants

  1633. us all of the

  1634. obedience of

  1635. Jesus.

  1636. We are fully

  1637. accepted in

  1638. God's sight.

  1639. Isn't that

  1640. awesome?

  1641. He's the

  1642. perfect Lord.

  1643. This is a

  1644. commandment with

  1645. a promise.

  1646. it's a

  1647. timeless

  1648. command.

  1649. And it's a

  1650. command with

  1651. a promise.

  1652. This is the

  1653. first of the

  1654. Ten Commandments

  1655. that has an

  1656. explicit promise

  1657. attached to it.

  1658. In fact, it's

  1659. the first of all

  1660. of the commands

  1661. of the law

  1662. with a promise.

  1663. And the

  1664. promise is that

  1665. it may go well

  1666. with you, that

  1667. you may live

  1668. long on the

  1669. earth.

  1670. Do you know

  1671. what God is

  1672. saying here?

  1673. I've got good

  1674. for you,

  1675. children.

  1676. I've got good

  1677. for you.

  1678. Obey your

  1679. parents.

  1680. Obey my

  1681. word and I

  1682. will bless

  1683. you.

  1684. I'll take

  1685. care of

  1686. you.

  1687. I'll see to

  1688. it.

  1689. You'll

  1690. experience peace

  1691. and blessing

  1692. and trust in

  1693. your relationship

  1694. with your

  1695. parents.

  1696. You will not

  1697. have to fear

  1698. them.

  1699. It's motivating.

  1700. Rightfully so.

  1701. He's promising

  1702. blessing.

  1703. So why is

  1704. Paul emphasizing

  1705. this promise?

  1706. I mean there's

  1707. a little

  1708. parenthetical

  1709. apostolic

  1710. comment there.

  1711. It's the

  1712. first commandment

  1713. with a promise.

  1714. He wants to

  1715. motivate us by

  1716. grace and

  1717. obeying your

  1718. parents.

  1719. But I want to

  1720. point you to the

  1721. greatest of all

  1722. motivations.

  1723. This is the

  1724. last point.

  1725. The ultimate

  1726. motivation.

  1727. It's back in

  1728. 6.1.

  1729. It's the three

  1730. words.

  1731. Children obey

  1732. your parents in

  1733. the Lord.

  1734. In the Lord.

  1735. In chapter

  1736. 5 we already

  1737. saw at the

  1738. end wives

  1739. submit to

  1740. your own

  1741. husbands as

  1742. to the Lord.

  1743. Husbands love

  1744. your wives as

  1745. Christ loved the

  1746. church.

  1747. When we turn

  1748. to the corner

  1749. and a little

  1750. bit later here

  1751. in chapter 6

  1752. we're going to

  1753. see slaves

  1754. obeying their

  1755. masters as

  1756. unto Christ.

  1757. Masters don't

  1758. be mean to

  1759. your slaves.

  1760. Why?

  1761. Because you

  1762. have a master

  1763. in heaven.

  1764. It's all unto

  1765. Christ.

  1766. It's all unto

  1767. Christ.

  1768. Fathers raise

  1769. your children

  1770. in the fear

  1771. and instruction

  1772. of the Lord.

  1773. It's unto

  1774. Christ.

  1775. Children obey

  1776. your parents

  1777. in the Lord.

  1778. It's for

  1779. Christ.

  1780. Here's what

  1781. he's saying.

  1782. He's saying

  1783. children obey

  1784. in the Lord

  1785. your parents.

  1786. Children obey

  1787. your parents

  1788. as unto

  1789. the Lord.

  1790. The ultimate

  1791. reason to

  1792. obey your

  1793. parents kids

  1794. is to please

  1795. Christ.

  1796. Obey your

  1797. parents is

  1798. pleasing to

  1799. Jesus.

  1800. this is

  1801. about walking

  1802. in a manner

  1803. worthy of

  1804. your calling

  1805. as a

  1806. Christian.

  1807. Obeying

  1808. your parents

  1809. is a

  1810. way to

  1811. live in

  1812. a manner

  1813. pleasing of

  1814. your calling.

  1815. And it's

  1816. also cross

  1817. cultural.

  1818. No.

  1819. Counter

  1820. cultural.

  1821. If you

  1822. looked at

  1823. Romans chapter

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  1824. 1,

  1825. when sinners

  1826. reject God,

  1827. God hands

  1828. them over to

  1829. their sin.

  1830. And what you

  1831. read in Romans

  1832. 1, 28-30 is

  1833. one of the

  1834. sins they

  1835. are handed

  1836. over to is

  1837. disobeying

  1838. their parents.

  1839. In 2 Timothy

    2 Timothy 3:2

  1840. 3, verses 2

  1841. and 3, the

  1842. last times,

  1843. they're going to

  1844. be awful.

  1845. We're living in

  1846. them.

  1847. And one of

  1848. the marks of

  1849. the end times

  1850. is disobedience

  1851. to parents.

  1852. Verse 3.

  1853. Obeying

  1854. parents is

  1855. counter

  1856. cultural.

  1857. To obey

  1858. mom and dad

  1859. for Jesus'

  1860. sake is

  1861. unusual.

  1862. and it

  1863. is

  1864. right.

  1865. In God's

  1866. sight.

  1867. So,

  1868. children,

  1869. what should

  1870. you do when

  1871. your parents

  1872. ask you to

  1873. do something

  1874. but you

  1875. don't want

  1876. to do it?

  1877. Or maybe

  1878. they've been

  1879. mean when

  1880. they tell you

  1881. to do

  1882. something?

  1883. Well,

  1884. you're to

  1885. obey right

  1886. away,

  1887. all the way

  1888. with joy.

  1889. With the

  1890. Jesus joy.

  1891. What should

  1892. be going

  1893. through your

  1894. mind when

  1895. you're asked

  1896. to do

  1897. something?

  1898. Three

  1899. words.

  1900. In the

  1901. Lord.

  1902. Obey

  1903. your parents

  1904. in the

  1905. Lord.

  1906. Just a

  1907. couple other

  1908. points here

  1909. and we'll

  1910. wrap up.

  1911. Children,

  1912. what should

  1913. you do when

  1914. a friend asks

  1915. you to

  1916. disobey your

  1917. parents?

  1918. Hey,

  1919. come and

  1920. see this

  1921. movie with

  1922. me.

  1923. No,

  1924. I can't.

  1925. Well,

  1926. why not?

  1927. My parents

  1928. wouldn't want

  1929. me to.

  1930. Well,

  1931. why wouldn't

  1932. they let

  1933. you go?

  1934. That's the

  1935. moment you

  1936. can throw

  1937. your parents

  1938. under the

  1939. bus,

  1940. by the

  1941. way.

  1942. Well,

  1943. my parents

  1944. are looking

  1945. out for

  1946. me.

  1947. And I

  1948. know they

  1949. would be

  1950. uncomfortable

  1951. with this

  1952. movie.

  1953. Well,

  1954. then tell

  1955. them that

  1956. you're going

  1957. to see

  1958. another movie

  1959. and we'll

  1960. go see this

  1961. movie at

  1962. the same

  1963. time.

  1964. Well,

  1965. I can't

  1966. do that.

  1967. Well,

  1968. why not?

  1969. Well,

  1970. that would

  1971. be lying

  1972. to them.

  1973. That's not

  1974. honoring

  1975. them either.

  1976. Seriously,

  1977. what is

  1978. your deal?

  1979. Why are

  1980. you so

  1981. controlled by

  1982. your parents?

  1983. They're so

  1984. oppressive.

  1985. Well,

  1986. actually,

  1987. my parents

  1988. aren't

  1989. oppressing

  1990. me.

  1991. In fact,

  1992. I'm not

  1993. obeying

  1994. them for

  1995. them.

  1996. I'm

  1997. choosing to

  1998. obey them

  1999. out of a

  2000. desire to

  2001. please my

  2002. Lord Jesus.

  2003. So,

  2004. my friend,

  2005. if you

  2006. want me

  2007. to disobey

  2008. my Lord

  2009. who shed

  2010. his blood

  2011. for me,

  2012. then raised

  2013. from the

  2014. grave for

  2015. me,

  2016. if you

  2017. want me

  2018. to disobey

  2019. him by

  2020. disobeying

  2021. my parents,

  2022. maybe I

  2023. should think

  2024. about whether

  2025. you should

  2026. be my

  2027. friend.

  2028. Because a

  2029. real friend

  2030. would not

  2031. ask me to

  2032. do something

  2033. my Lord

  2034. forbids.

  2035. And as

  2036. my six-year-old

  2037. says,

  2038. awkward.

  2039. Following

  2040. Jesus is

  2041. full of

  2042. awkward

  2043. moments like

  2044. that.

  2045. That's

  2046. normal.

  2047. That's

  2048. normal.

  2049. There you

  2050. have it.

  2051. You know

  2052. what that

  2053. is?

  2054. That's

  2055. Ephesians

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  2056. chapter 5,

  2057. 7-14 being

  2058. lived out.

  2059. You're

  2060. walking as a

  2061. child of

  2062. light, not

  2063. participating in

  2064. the unfruitful

  2065. deeds of

  2066. darkness,

  2067. disobeying

  2068. your parents,

  2069. but rather you

  2070. are exposing

  2071. them.

  2072. Live for

  2073. Jesus,

  2074. obey your

  2075. parents.

  2076. Yes.

  2077. What

  2078. happens if

  2079. you're

  2080. sitting here

  2081. right now

  2082. as an

  2083. adult and

  2084. God is

  2085. convicting

  2086. you because

  2087. you disobeyed

  2088. your parents

  2089. when you

  2090. were a

  2091. child.

  2092. And you're

  2093. realizing now

  2094. that not only

  2095. were you

  2096. disobeying

  2097. your parents,

  2098. but you

  2099. were disobeying

  2100. God.

  2101. What do

  2102. you do?

  2103. You run

  2104. to your

  2105. heavenly

  2106. father.

  2107. Confess your

  2108. sin to your

  2109. heavenly father.

  2110. If we

  2111. confess our

  2112. sins, he's

  2113. faithful and

  2114. just to

  2115. forgive us

  2116. our sins

  2117. and to

  2118. cleanse us

  2119. from all

  2120. unrighteousness.

  2121. That's

  2122. promise.

  2123. Run to

  2124. him.

  2125. Go to

  2126. your heavenly

  2127. father and

  2128. confess your

  2129. disobedience to

  2130. him.

  2131. You're

  2132. disobedient to

  2133. your earthly

  2134. parents and

  2135. your disobedience

  2136. to your

  2137. heavenly father.

  2138. And then,

  2139. if your

  2140. parents are

  2141. still alive,

  2142. talk to

  2143. them and

  2144. confess your

  2145. sin to

  2146. them and

  2147. ask them to

  2148. forgive you.

  2149. I was a

  2150. freak when I

  2151. was a

  2152. teenager.

  2153. I am

  2154. sorry,

  2155. mom and

  2156. dad.

  2157. Will you

  2158. forgive me?

  2159. I disobeyed

  2160. you like

  2161. 9,000

  2162. times.

  2163. Will you

  2164. forgive me?

  2165. Please.

  2166. You want to

  2167. own it.

  2168. Act on it

  2169. by faith and

  2170. seek your

  2171. parents'

  2172. forgiveness.

  2173. And if

  2174. your parents

  2175. ask you,

  2176. it's like,

  2177. who are

  2178. you?

  2179. What

  2180. happened to

  2181. you?

  2182. Seriously,

  2183. you've got my

  2184. child's name,

  2185. but you're like

  2186. someone else.

  2187. What

  2188. happened?

  2189. Do you know

  2190. what you say?

  2191. Jesus happened

  2192. to me.

  2193. I've been

  2194. changed.

  2195. And now I

  2196. want to

  2197. obey him

  2198. and own

  2199. up to

  2200. what I've

  2201. done wrong.

  2202. Now if

  2203. your parents

  2204. are dead

  2205. and therefore

  2206. you can't

  2207. talk to

  2208. them,

  2209. you can

  2210. still own

  2211. it before

  2212. your heavenly

  2213. father.

  2214. It goes

  2215. something like

  2216. this.

  2217. Oh,

  2218. father,

  2219. I wish my

  2220. parents were

  2221. still alive

  2222. so that I

  2223. could tell

  2224. them how

  2225. much I

  2226. regret the

  2227. many different

  2228. ways I

  2229. disobeyed

  2230. them.

  2231. But I

  2232. can't,

  2233. and you

  2234. know that,

  2235. so I

  2236. will trust

  2237. my confession

  2238. of my

  2239. sin to

  2240. you.

  2241. You'll

  2242. suffice.

  2243. It's as far

  2244. as I can

  2245. go.

  2246. And then

  2247. he said,

  2248. thank you,

  2249. God,

  2250. for helping

  2251. me to

  2252. see my

  2253. sin.

  2254. We've

  2255. covered a lot

  2256. of ground.

  2257. In order

  2258. to,

  2259. for children

  2260. to grow

  2261. in godliness,

  2262. they've

  2263. got to

  2264. be in

  2265. god's

  2266. greenhouse

  2267. of grace.

  2268. And in

  2269. children,

  2270. you must

  2271. obey your

  2272. parents,

  2273. because it

  2274. pleases

  2275. Christ.

  2276. So the

  2277. next time

  2278. your parents

  2279. ask you to

  2280. do something

  2281. and there's

  2282. a little

  2283. growl deep

  2284. within you,

  2285. would you

  2286. look to see

  2287. who's standing

  2288. behind your

  2289. parents?

  2290. Jesus,

  2291. saying,

  2292. do it

  2293. for me.

  2294. That's

  2295. God.
