Our Position On Marriage

Well, this morning, before I preach, before we turn to Jonah 4, I want to make some statements

regarding this past week's Supreme Court decision that is legalized same-sex marriage.

The elders of our church have been talking, and one of the things that we've been talking

about is how do we respond?

What do we say?

Is there something to say?

And we believe that there is.

And so I have a handful of statements I want to make that are position statements.

This is what we believe as a church.

And then following that, I'm going to read you a piece from an article that gets at our

posture as a church.

How we want to be here in this country, in this city, in light of the changes going on

around us.

And I want to first say this.

These statements that I'm about to make are from a man who has been redeemed and restored

from sexual sin myself.

And so these words are spoken as one who's been redeemed.

As a church who's been redeemed.

A church who knows and tasted and experienced the hardship of sin.

We as a church believe the only marriage legitimate in God's sight is the uniting of one man and

one woman in a single exclusive union as revealed in Scripture.

We also believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between one man and one woman who are married to each other.

We believe any form of sexual immorality including but not limited to homosexual practice is sinful in God's sight.

We also believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin.

Seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

That's what we hold to as a church.

And many of us in this room have been called out of the very homosexual lifestyle that has been now legalized.

That's our position.

And now we believe that God might not have been Scoville.

There have been many opportunity for us in which church is called out and celebrate.
