  1. We are in a series of sermons on can God use me.

  2. That is, some of us for various reasons don't think that either God will use us or can use us

  3. or that we have anything to give or that we are insignificant or whatever.

  4. And we are trying to look at various people that God has used in the past to enable us to see what kind of people he uses.

  5. And so we have been looking at the book of Judges because the book of Judges probably has the largest accumulation of different kinds of people that God has used.

  6. There is a common theme in the book of Judges.

  7. Israel turns away from God.

  8. God punishes her.

  9. They cry out for help.

  10. So he sends them a savior and everything is fine as long as that savior is alive.

  11. And then he dies.

  12. And then Israel backslides again.

  13. And God punishes her.

  14. And they cry out for help.

  15. And he sends them a redeemer.

  16. And this goes on cycle after cycle after cycle.

  17. We have looked at two persons.

  18. One of them is Ehud.

  19. One of them is Ehud.

  20. The left-handed judge.

  21. And he is in some ways a misfit because he is left-handed in a society that is basically right-handed.

  22. And then Deborah who is a woman in a society dominated by men.

  23. So Ehud really doesn't fit very well with society.

  24. And Deborah doesn't fit very well in society.

  25. But God decides to use those people of all the different people that he could have used.

  26. And this morning I want us to look at the book of Judges chapter 6.

    Judges 6 chapter mention

  27. The judge Gideon.

  28. So we're going to look at Gideon.

  29. The amount of space that is given to Gideon is a lot more than any of the judges up to this point.

  30. So he receives a lot of space.

  31. And Gideon is very fascinating.

  32. In some ways he picks up themes that we have already encountered.

  33. But then explores other misfittings if you please.

  34. Israel again backslides.

  35. And God oppresses her with the Midianites.

  36. When they are oppressed by the Midianites they cry to the Lord.

  37. So look at Judges chapter 6 verse 7.

    Judges 6:7

  38. When Israel cried to the Lord because of Midian.

  39. He sent them a prophet.

  40. Now this is rather interesting.

  41. Because all the other times he sent them a deliverer.

  42. Deborah was a prophetess.

  43. And maybe he is connecting this theme here.

  44. That God is going to send them a prophet.

  45. Who is able to explain things.

  46. Rather than just to lead armies.

  47. And so God sends them a prophet.

  48. This prophet is not the one who is going to lead them to war.

  49. This is not the deliverer.

  50. But he is a prophet.

  51. And he has a word from God.

  52. I happen to teach at a Christian liberal arts university.

  53. And at seminary.

  54. A very essential part of my job is to train future pastors.

  55. And to be a mentor.

  56. And to guide.

  57. And to help with their faith.

  58. And as well as with academics.

  59. And because my job is not biology or physics or literature or music.

  60. Because it is biblical studies.

  61. And to be a Christian liberal arts.

  62. With special interest in preparing future pastors.

  63. We watch constantly what's happening with Christianity.

  64. We want to understand how Christianity is now.

  65. As opposed to how it was at the time of Martin Luther and the Great Reformation.

  66. Not in any way to belittle Martin Luther and the Reformation.

  67. But we're not living then.

  68. We're living here.

  69. We're living in 2015.

  70. We want to understand global Christianity in 2015.

  71. And so.

  72. When you ask.

  73. Outsiders.

  74. Or even insiders.

  75. What is the kind of Christianity that we have inherited?

  76. In 2015.

  77. What kind of Christianity do we experience?

  78. And the answer is.

  79. Christianity has gone through two stages.

  80. And these two stages have affected.

  81. What our Christianity looks like now.

  82. The first stage is in the 1900s.

  83. In effect what happened in America.

  84. Is that Christianity split into two branches.

  85. Not Catholic and Protestant.

  86. Or Presbyterians and Methodists.

  87. Not that kind of split.

  88. But you ended up with Christianity in New England.

  89. And Christianity out west.

  90. And so.

  91. In New England.

  92. You have Christianity associated with intellectualism.

  93. With studies.

  94. With studies.

  95. With academics.

  96. With intellectual pursuit.

  97. Christianity.

  98. And Christianity.

  99. Christianity.

  100. Christianity was dominated by Princeton University.

  101. And the theologians at Princeton University.

  102. And if you talked to that group of Christians.

  103. And you asked them.

  104. What do I need to do?

  105. What do I need to do?

  106. How do I know that I'm a Christian?

  107. The answer would be.

  108. Can you write.

  109. A valid statement of faith?

  110. So the evidence.

  111. That I'm a Christian.

  112. Is my ability to write.

  113. A valid.

  114. Biblical.

  115. Genuine.

  116. Appropriate.

  117. Statement of faith.

  118. On the other hand.

  119. In the west.

  120. We had more Christianity.

  121. Of the feelings.

  122. The campfire Christianity.

  123. The.

  124. Give me that old time religion.

  125. Kind of Christianity.

  126. Christianity.

  127. Christianity of feelings.

  128. And experience.

  129. So you can say.

  130. I.

  131. You know.

  132. I.

  133. The Lord said to me.

  134. Or you can give your testimony.

  135. As opposed to a statement of faith.

  136. So you had the intellectual Christianity.

  137. Headed by Princeton.

  138. And.

  139. Experiential.

  140. Christianity.

  141. Well.

  142. Which is correct?

  143. Well.

  144. That's a.

  145. Interesting question to ask.

  146. But last time I read Deuteronomy.

  147. It is.

  148. Hear.

  149. Hear.

  150. O Israel.

  151. The Lord.

  152. Our God.

  153. The Lord is one.

  154. You shall love the Lord.

  155. Your God.

  156. With.

  157. And.

  158. Several things are mentioned there.

  159. Your heart.

  160. Your mind.

  161. Your work.

  162. So it's not.

  163. Either or.

  164. But.

  165. That.

  166. In effect.

  167. Is what has happened.

  168. In.

  169. Christianity.

  170. In America.

  171. You still have.

  172. Intellectual.

  173. Christianity.

  174. And then you still have.

  175. Experiential.

  176. Christianity.

  177. Christianity.

  178. The other thing that is.

  179. True about.

  180. American Christianity.

  181. Is that when you ask.

  182. Outsiders.

  183. How would you describe.

  184. Christianity.

  185. In America.

  186. The answer is.

  187. It is.

  188. Sweden.

  189. On top.

  190. Of India.

  191. Now.

  192. Let me see.

  193. Does anybody know.

  194. Anything about.

  195. What I just finished saying.

  196. Does anybody have.

  197. The slightest idea.

  198. What Sweden.

  199. On top.

  200. Of India.

  201. Mean.

  202. The United Nations.

  203. Did a major.

  204. Research.

  205. And.

  206. As a result.

  207. Of this research.

  208. It found out.

  209. That the most.

  210. Religious.

  211. Country.

  212. In the world.

  213. Is India.

  214. Now.

  215. That doesn't mean.

  216. That.

  217. They worship.

  218. The living God.

  219. Some worship.

  220. One God.

  221. Some worship.

  222. Three God.

  223. Some worship.

  224. Three million gods.

  225. There are all kinds.

  226. Of religions.

  227. Hinduism is.

  228. As broad.

  229. As it can come.

  230. There is no Hinduism.

  231. There is about like.

  232. Twelve.

  233. Hinduisms.

  234. And so.

  235. Practically.

  236. Everyone.

  237. In India.

  238. As high as.

  239. Ninety five percent.

  240. Or maybe even higher.

  241. Believe.

  242. In some kind.

  243. Of a God.

  244. The least.

  245. Religious country.

  246. In the world.

  247. Is Sweden.

  248. Sweden.

  249. So.

  250. When you take.

  251. Surveys.

  252. Of do you believe.

  253. In God.

  254. In Sweden.

  255. You get the lowest.

  256. Score.

  257. Possible.

  258. So.

  259. Sweden.

  260. On top of India.

  261. Means.

  262. That in America.

  263. We.

  264. Our Christianity.

  265. In some.

  266. Our society.

  267. In some ways.

  268. Looks like.

  269. India.

  270. In some ways.

  271. It also looks like.

  272. Sweden.

  273. How is that?

  274. We have far more.

  275. Evangelicals.

  276. Percentage wise.

  277. In America.

  278. Than.

  279. Surely.

  280. In France.

  281. Or in England.

  282. Or in Australia.

  283. We have more people.

  284. Who say they believe in God.

  285. More people.

  286. Who go to churches.

  287. Etc.

  288. Etc.

  289. Over country.

  290. After country.

  291. And after country.

  292. And God raised.

  293. Elijah.

  294. And Elisha.

  295. To stop it.

  296. From spreading.

  297. So the worship of Baal.

  298. Never became the official.

  299. Religion.

  300. Of Israel.

  301. But in practice.

  302. Practice is always different.

  303. Not always.

  304. But often.

  305. Different.

  306. From regular worship.

  307. So Gideon is saying.

  308. I don't see any miracles.

  309. Therefore.

  310. God is not with us.

  311. In a second.

  312. We'll have to think.

  313. About that.

  314. From a Christian perspective.

  315. So.

  316. God must have abandoned us.

  317. Even though.

  318. The angel.

  319. The angel.

  320. Is telling him.

  321. The Lord.

  322. Is with you.

  323. I think.

  324. I'd be hesitant.

  325. To disagree.

  326. With the.

  327. Angel of the Lord.

  328. I'd be happy.

  329. I wouldn't be.

  330. Brave enough.

  331. To say.

  332. You're wrong.

  333. You know.

  334. I don't care.

  335. What university.

  336. I graduated from.

  337. I wouldn't tell him.

  338. You're wrong.

  339. I don't care.

  340. I don't care.

  341. I don't care.

  342. I don't care.

  343. I don't care.

  344. I don't care.

  345. But he is struggling.

  346. But he is struggling.

  347. With two things.

  348. That he is a mighty warrior.

  349. And that the Lord is with him.

  350. So.

  351. In response to the Lord is with you.

  352. He says.

  353. No.

  354. He's not.

  355. But now we've got the other problem.

  356. The Lord is with you.

  357. Mighty warrior.

  358. So.

  359. The Lord turned to him.

  360. Verse 14.

  361. The Lord turned to him.

  362. And said.

  363. Go in the strength.

  364. You have.

  365. And save Israel.

  366. Out of Midianite's hand.

  367. Am I not sending you?

  368. Go.

  369. Deliver.

  370. And look at his response.

  371. Verse 15.

  372. But Lord.

  373. Gideon asked.

  374. How can I save Israel?

  375. My clan is the weakest in Manasseh.

  376. And I am the least in my family.

  377. In Greek philosophy.

  378. When the Greeks wanted to.

  379. Find a word from the gods.

  380. They went to a place called.

  381. Well.

  382. It was at Delphi.

  383. Where you received an oracle.

  384. From the gods.

  385. The oracle usually was basically.

  386. A kind of a standard answer.

  387. Which is know yourself.

  388. And you can interpret that.

  389. In a variety of ways.

  390. You know.

  391. Maybe I need to know my.

  392. Strengths.

  393. Maybe I need to know my weaknesses.

  394. Maybe I need to know what I'm good at.

  395. What I'm bad at.

  396. What I'm clever at.

  397. What I'm dumb at.

  398. So.

  399. Know yourself.

  400. The more you know yourself.

  401. The better off you are.

  402. That's not what the oracle meant.

  403. To convey.

  404. What it meant to convey.

  405. Is that you're human.

  406. And you're not a god.

  407. So.

  408. Live with that limitations.

  409. It looks like.

  410. Gideon.

  411. Gideon.

  412. Knows himself.

  413. So he says.

  414. How can I save Israel.

  415. My clan.

  416. Is the weakest.

  417. In Manasseh.

  418. And I am the least.

  419. In my family.

  420. Weak.

  421. And strong.

  422. Is relative.

  423. It depends on.

  424. Whom you're comparing with.

  425. My daughter.

  426. Graduated.

  427. Topps.

  428. In her high school.

  429. So.

  430. She went to University of California.

  431. Where I went.

  432. And she joined the honors program.

  433. And she was very frustrated.

  434. And.

  435. She wrote me.

  436. She said.

  437. Dad.

  438. There is nothing that I can do.

  439. To get an A in this class.

  440. So I said.

  441. Talk to the teacher.

  442. So she went to the professor.

  443. And said.

  444. What do I have to do.

  445. To get an A in this class.

  446. I've always gotten A's.

  447. I've never gotten.

  448. Anything other than A's.

  449. You know.

  450. I graduated.

  451. Topps.

  452. In high school.

  453. And he said.

  454. Oh.

  455. If you want to.

  456. Get A's.

  457. Go to an easier university.

  458. She said to me.

  459. She talked to the other students.

  460. She said.

  461. Valdetorian.

  462. Was.

  463. Average.

  464. Valetorian.

  465. Valetorian.

  466. Valetorian.

  467. Is.

  468. Average.

  469. In that program.

  470. In that program.

  471. We have.

  472. In America.

  473. Approximately 5,000 universities.

  474. About.

  475. About.

  476. About.

  477. About.

  478. 150.

  479. Produce.

  480. Excellent.

  481. Athletes.

  482. That we watch.

  483. On.

  484. TV.

  485. In basketball.

  486. And.

  487. And volleyball.

  488. And.

  489. And.

  490. Football.

  491. And.

  492. Soccer.

  493. And things like that.

  494. If you take.

  495. If you take.

  496. The best.

  497. Player.

  498. From.

  499. Every one.

  500. Of those.

  501. 120.

  502. Universities.

  503. These are the MVPs.

  504. In their conferences.

  505. If you take.

  506. These.

  507. Players.

  508. And.

  509. When it comes.

  510. To bidding.

  511. And to recruiting.

  512. Do you know.

  513. How many make it.

  514. In professional.

  515. Sports.

  516. You will be surprised.

  517. You are.

  518. MVP.

  519. In your conference.

  520. And you recruit.

  521. And you are.

  522. Drafted by the.

  523. L.A.

  524. Lakers.

  525. And you think.

  526. You're going to be the next.

  527. You know.

  528. Will Chamberlain.

  529. Or whoever.

  530. And guess what you do.

  531. At the end.

  532. You sit there.

  533. Number 12.

  534. They're lucky.

  535. If anybody knows.

  536. You exist.

  537. To be strong.

  538. Or to be weak.

  539. Depends on who you're.

  540. Competing with.

  541. If you lower standards.

  542. You know.

  543. If you lower standards.

  544. Low enough.

  545. Jack the Ripper.

  546. Could be a saint.

  547. You know.

  548. I mean.

  549. You just have to.

  550. Lower.

  551. So he.

  552. He says.

  553. I am.

  554. The least.

  555. In my family.

  556. Okay.

  557. So you are.

  558. The least.

  559. In that family.

  560. It is one thing.

  561. To know yourself.

  562. It is something else.

  563. To use that.

  564. Knowledge.

  565. As an excuse.

  566. Not to minister.

  567. It is okay.

  568. To say.

  569. I am not good at it.

  570. There are lots of things.

  571. I am not good at.

  572. If anything happens.

  573. To your car.

  574. For heaven's sake.

  575. Don't come to me.

  576. I don't know anything.

  577. About cars.

  578. I know.

  579. Close to zero.

  580. About biology.

  581. But it is one thing.

  582. To say.

  583. I am weak.

  584. It is something.

  585. To say.

  586. Consequently.

  587. Because of my weakness.

  588. I refuse to witness.

  589. We'll get back to this point.

  590. We're not.

  591. We're not away from it.

  592. We'll get back to it.

  593. So.

  594. Verse 16.

  595. The Lord answered.

  596. I will be with you.

  597. And you will strike down.

  598. All the Midianites.

  599. Together.

  600. He said.

  601. I'll be with you.

  602. Three times already.

  603. In one paragraph.

  604. He will win.

  605. Because God is with him.

  606. The Lord is with you.

  607. Oh mighty warrior.

  608. Both statements are true.

  609. What happens sometimes.

  610. Is that.

  611. God sees us.

  612. In the way.

  613. He sees us.

  614. But we.

  615. Refuse to accept it.

  616. We want to keep seeing.

  617. Ourselves.

  618. In the way that.

  619. We want to see ourselves.

  620. We're not willing.

  621. To let.

  622. God.

  623. We resist God.

  624. When he tries.

  625. To bring out the potential.

  626. And so he has to.

  627. Play hard ball.

  628. In some cases.

  629. So.

  630. I will be with you.

  631. Verse 16.

  632. Gideon replied.

  633. If now.

  634. I have found favor.

  635. In your eyes.

  636. Give me a sign.

  637. Barak.

  638. Give me a sign.

  639. If you go.

  640. I'll go.

  641. If you don't go.

  642. I don't go.

  643. So it doesn't matter.

  644. That God is speaking to him.

  645. He wants a sign.

  646. God.

  647. It shows.

  648. It shows.

  649. How bad things are.

  650. The Midianites.

  651. Are.

  652. Defeating.

  653. Israel.

  654. When.

  655. Israel.

  656. Is ten times.

  657. Stronger than the Midianites.

  658. But that is because.

  659. Israel.

  660. Has turned away from God.

  661. And God is punishing them.

  662. the fact that it is the Midianites

  663. not the Egyptians, not the Assyrians, not the Babylonians

  664. not some great world power

  665. the fact that it's the Midianites who are defeating the Israelites

  666. is embarrassing

  667. try to imagine this

  668. that Bradford High School invites

  669. the basketball team invites the Chicago Bulls

  670. to a game and Bradford wins

  671. you could ask what does that tell you about Bradford

  672. I'd like to ask a different question

  673. what does it tell you about the Chicago Bulls

  674. where are the glory days

  675. there are no glory days if Bradford can beat them

  676. the Midianites are beating up on us

  677. what could be more insulting

  678. it's like if you race a two year old

  679. 50 yards and the two year old beats you in the race

  680. so

  681. God performs a sign

  682. and he is convinced it is God

  683. and now

  684. to this delightful portion of scriptures

  685. God says

  686. you know in your village

  687. you're supposed to be worshipping me

  688. and look what we have here

  689. we have an altar for Baal

  690. and a pole

  691. a wooden pole for Asherah's

  692. Baal's consort

  693. so he says

  694. chop it down

  695. and build me an altar

  696. using that wood

  697. well

  698. the verb to hack something down

  699. is the word for Gideon

  700. a person

  701. pun intended

  702. in case

  703. I'm warning you ahead of time

  704. so you'll catch the pun

  705. a person

  706. whose name is Hacker

  707. is supposed to hack

  708. the pole

  709. at least I can tell

  710. at least three people

  711. sitting in front got it

  712. so

  713. he wants to obey God

  714. God has talked to him

  715. you're a mighty man

  716. go do it

  717. but look at this wonderful delight

  718. look at verse 27

  719. in chapter

  720. 6

  721. 627

  722. so Gideon

  723. took

  724. ten of his servants

  725. and did

  726. as the Lord

  727. told him

  728. but because

  729. he was afraid

  730. of his family

  731. and the men

  732. of the town

  733. he did it

  734. at night

  735. rather than

  736. in the daytime

  737. God is with him

  738. he doesn't know

  739. how to overcome

  740. his cowardice

  741. he does it

  742. at night

  743. I would have said

  744. come on

  745. be brave

  746. but at least

  747. he obeys God

  748. it's better

  749. to obey God

  750. cowardly

  751. than not to obey

  752. God

  753. cowardly

  754. but at least

  755. he does it

  756. at night

  757. and then there's

  758. the argument

  759. the next day

  760. who did it

  761. this

  762. at least

  763. he has shown

  764. himself

  765. to be faithful

  766. on small things

  767. it's only

  768. an altar

  769. it's only

  770. a pole

  771. but he has

  772. shown himself

  773. faithful

  774. he's getting

  775. somewhere

  776. he is willing

  777. to obey

  778. God

  779. he is willing

  780. to be used

  781. on a small

  782. scale

  783. and if God

  784. trusts us

  785. on small things

  786. he will make us

  787. responsible

  788. for bigger things

  789. but there is

  790. a battle

  791. to be

  792. fought

  793. and so

  794. he calls

  795. the people

  796. from

  797. Israel

  798. and

  799. he

  800. has a

  801. great

  802. army

  803. so

  804. look at

  805. chapter 7

  806. verse 2

  807. the Lord

  808. said to

  809. Gideon

  810. you have

  811. too many

  812. men

  813. for me

  814. to deliver

  815. Midian

  816. into

  817. their

  818. hands

  819. in order

  820. that Israel

  821. may not

  822. boast

  823. against me

  824. that her

  825. own strength

  826. has saved

  827. her

  828. announce

  829. now

  830. to the

  831. people

  832. anyone

  833. who

  834. trembles

  835. with fear

  836. may turn

  837. back

  838. and leave

  839. Mount

  840. Gilead

  841. so

  842. 22,000

  843. men

  844. left

  845. while

  846. 10,000

  847. remained

  848. he has

  849. just

  850. reduced

  851. his

  852. army

  853. by

  854. two

  855. thirds

  856. I

  857. think

  858. to

  859. myself

  860. where

  861. was

  862. that

  863. verse

  864. why

  865. didn't

  866. they

  867. tell

  868. us

  869. that

  870. before

  871. they

  872. sent

  873. us

  874. off

  875. to

  876. Vietnam

  877. I

  878. wouldn't

  879. have

  880. gone

  881. if I

  882. had

  883. that

  884. option

  885. but

  886. the

  887. army

  888. is

  889. now

  890. down

  891. to

  892. 10,000

  893. you

  894. don't

  895. win

  896. by

  897. reducing

  898. the

  899. size

  900. of

  901. the

  902. army

  903. you

  904. win

  905. by

  906. doubling

  907. the

  908. army

  909. for

  910. every

  911. soldier

  912. they

  913. have

  914. you

  915. have

  916. three

  917. and

  918. then

  919. you

  920. can

  921. win

  922. so

  923. 22,000

  924. men

  925. left

  926. while

  927. 10,000

  928. remained

  929. verse 4

  930. but the

  931. Lord

  932. said to

  933. Gideon

  934. there

  935. are

  936. still

  937. too

  938. many

  939. men

  940. and

  941. so

  942. do

  943. this

  944. test

  945. and

  946. they're

  947. down

  948. to

  949. 300

  950. people

  951. you

  952. start

  953. with

  954. about

  955. 32,000

  956. soldiers

  957. you're

  958. down

  959. to

  960. 300

  961. what

  962. is

  963. God

  964. thinking

  965. God

  966. is

  967. thinking

  968. that

  969. he

  970. knows

  971. how

  972. to

  973. win

  974. and

  975. he

  976. does

  977. not

  978. want

  979. us

  980. to

  981. think

  982. stupidly

  983. that

  984. the

  985. victory

  986. is

  987. ours

  988. the

  989. power

  990. comes

  991. from

  992. God

  993. and

  994. when

  995. we

  996. are

  997. the

  998. weakest

  999. God

  1000. is

  1001. the

  1002. strongest

  1003. that's

  1004. a

  1005. basic

  1006. lesson

  1007. we have

  1008. to

  1009. learn

  1010. and

  1011. if

  1012. you're

  1013. strong

  1014. I

  1015. feel

  1016. bad

  1017. for

  1018. you

  1019. because

  1020. God

  1021. is

  1022. going

  1023. to

  1024. have

  1025. to

  1026. play

  1027. tough

  1028. with

  1029. you

  1030. to

  1031. make

  1032. you

  1033. feel

  1034. weak

  1035. so

  1036. God

  1037. sends

  1038. them

  1039. they

  1040. don't

  1041. even

  1042. fight

  1043. it's

  1044. dark

  1045. and the

  1046. army

  1047. is

  1048. confused

  1049. and

  1050. the

  1051. army

  1052. defeats

  1053. itself

  1054. what

  1055. is

  1056. going

  1057. on

  1058. what

  1059. is

  1060. going

  1061. on

  1062. is

  1063. a

  1064. lesson

  1065. that

  1066. we

  1067. all

  1068. know

  1069. first

  1070. of

  1071. all

  1072. if

  1073. I

  1074. said

  1075. like

  1076. Gideon

  1077. the

  1078. Lord

  1079. has

  1080. abandoned

  1081. us

  1082. I

  1083. would

  1084. know

  1085. I

  1086. was

  1087. wrong

  1088. because

  1089. I've

  1090. heard

  1091. Jesus

  1092. say

  1093. wherever

  1094. two

  1095. or

  1096. three

  1097. are

  1098. gathered

  1099. together

  1100. in

  1101. my

  1102. name

  1103. there

  1104. I

  1105. am

  1106. in

  1107. their

  1108. midst

  1109. I

  1110. know

  1111. Jesus

  1112. has

  1113. said

  1114. I

  1115. would

  1116. be

  1117. with

  1118. you

  1119. always

  1120. even

  1121. to

  1122. the

  1123. end

  1124. of

  1125. the

  1126. age

  1127. I

  1128. know

  1129. I've

  1130. heard

  1131. Jesus

  1132. say

  1133. I

  1134. will

  1135. never

  1136. leave

  1137. you

  1138. nor

  1139. forsake

  1140. you

  1141. so

  1142. Midian

  1143. might

  1144. think

  1145. he

  1146. would

  1147. be

  1148. able

  1149. to

  1150. get

  1151. away

  1152. with

  1153. it

  1154. we

  1155. can't

  1156. we

  1157. cannot

  1158. say

  1159. God

  1160. has

  1161. abandoned

  1162. us

  1163. God

  1164. has

  1165. said

  1166. instead

  1167. nothing

  1168. can

  1169. separate

  1170. us

  1171. from

  1172. the

  1173. love

  1174. of

  1175. God

  1176. and

  1177. to

  1178. conclude

  1179. please

  1180. turn

  1181. to

  1182. 2nd

  1183. Corinthians

  1184. please

  1185. turn

  1186. to

  1187. this

  1188. wonderful

  1189. passage

  1190. by

  1191. Paul

  1192. who

  1193. experienced

  1194. this

  1195. whole

  1196. issue

  1197. how do

  1198. we

  1199. understand

  1200. strength

  1201. how do

  1202. we

  1203. understand

  1204. weakness

  1205. look at

  1206. 2nd

  1207. Corinthians

  1208. chapter

  1209. 12

  1210. verse 7

  1211. 2nd

  1212. Corinthians

  1213. chapter

  1214. 12

  1215. verse 7

  1216. to keep

  1217. me from

  1218. becoming

  1219. conceited

  1220. because of

  1221. these

  1222. surpassingly

  1223. great

  1224. revelations

  1225. there was

  1226. given me

  1227. a thorn

  1228. in my

  1229. flesh

  1230. a messenger

  1231. of Satan

  1232. to torment

  1233. me

  1234. three times

  1235. I pleaded

  1236. with the

  1237. Lord to

  1238. take it

  1239. away from

  1240. me

  1241. but he

  1242. said

  1243. my grace

  1244. is sufficient

  1245. for you

  1246. my power

  1247. is made

  1248. perfect

  1249. in weakness

  1250. therefore

  1251. I will

  1252. boast

  1253. all the

  1254. more

  1255. gladly

  1256. about

  1257. my

  1258. weaknesses

  1259. so that

  1260. Christ's

  1261. power

  1262. may rest

  1263. on me

  1264. that is

  1265. why

  1266. for

  1267. Christ's

  1268. sake

  1269. I delight

  1270. in weaknesses

  1271. in insults

  1272. in hardships

  1273. in persecutions

  1274. in difficulties

  1275. for when

  1276. I am

  1277. weak

  1278. then

  1279. I am

  1280. strong

  1281. that is

  1282. true

  1283. of us

  1284. individually

  1285. that is

  1286. true

  1287. of our

  1288. church

  1289. the power

  1290. comes

  1291. from God

  1292. the power

  1293. comes

  1294. from God

  1295. and we

  1296. are not

  1297. abandoned

  1298. let's have

  1299. a word of

  1300. prayer

  1301. thank you

  1302. father for

  1303. using weak

  1304. afraid

  1305. unsure

  1306. people

  1307. thank you

  1308. for working

  1309. in their

  1310. lives

  1311. and in

  1312. our

  1313. lives

  1314. so that

  1315. they learn

  1316. to obey

  1317. even when

  1318. they're

  1319. afraid

  1320. they

  1321. accept

  1322. their mission

  1323. even when

  1324. they're

  1325. hesitant

  1326. father

  1327. I suspect

  1328. there are

  1329. far more

  1330. cowards

  1331. than there

  1332. are

  1333. heroes

  1334. in

  1335. normal

  1336. churches

  1337. that some

  1338. of us

  1339. are

  1340. hesitant

  1341. and are

  1342. afraid

  1343. to be

  1344. used

  1345. but you

  1346. want to

  1347. use us

  1348. I pray

  1349. that we

  1350. would have

  1351. confidence

  1352. in you

  1353. not in

  1354. ourselves

  1355. that we

  1356. will rely

  1357. on you

  1358. not on

  1359. ourselves

  1360. and we

  1361. thank you

  1362. father

  1363. that you

  1364. are always

  1365. with us

  1366. we give

  1367. you much

  1368. thanks and

  1369. gratitude

  1370. and appreciation

  1371. in Jesus

  1372. name

  1373. amen
