  1. Good morning to all of you.

  2. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Samir Massou.

  3. I'm one of the professors at Trinity and a member of Christ the King and a former elder.

  4. I was thinking this morning, which is more important, to see the trees or to see the forest?

  5. Do you start with the big and go down to the small or do you do the reverse?

  6. And I decided in my case I have no choice.

  7. If the elders said to me, Samir, you have two whole years to speak on Matthew.

  8. You can preach on Matthew for the next hundred lectures, next hundred Sundays.

  9. We would look at every tree.

  10. We would look at every plant.

  11. We would look at every verse.

  12. Every paragraph.

  13. Every section.

  14. And we'll try to see the forest.

  15. We'll try to see all the trees.

  16. But they didn't give me two years.

  17. They only gave me today.

  18. So, we're going to be like a helicopter hovering over the trees, trying to see what the big picture is.

  19. We are in the Gospel of Matthew.

  20. And there are some really important themes in Matthew.

  21. One of them you should be noticing by now.

  22. That Matthew often points out that Jesus fulfills the Old Testament scriptures.

  23. He uses about 14 passages that have this introduction.

  24. This happened that scriptures may be fulfilled.

  25. Or this happens as the prophet Jeremiah said.

  26. Or as Isaiah said.

  27. I listed several of them here.

  28. Not the whole list.

  29. But several of them.

  30. Just to remind you that that is indeed a very important theme in Matthew.

  31. That God's plan is being fulfilled.

  32. But there is a second theme.

  33. And instead of telling you now what that theme is, I'm just going to wait to the end.

  34. See if you can put one and one together and figure out what's going on.

  35. So, we're going to look at a theme and ask ourselves at the end.

  36. So, what was that all about?

  37. Okay.

  38. That theme can be seen in six places.

  39. And if you look at the back of your bulletin, I gave you a fairly specific outline.

  40. And let's begin with Matthew chapter 1, verse 5.

    Matthew 1:5

  41. Matthew 1, 5.

  42. What I want you to do here is to notice two specific names in this passage.

  43. Rahab and Ruth.

  44. You may remember Rahab from Jericho, from the book of Joshua.

  45. And the siege of Jericho.

  46. And Ruth, of course, is the Moabite woman who is discussed in the book of Ruth.

  47. The important thing to notice is that he is giving us the genealogy of King David.

  48. And everywhere else, he only mentions the father.

  49. But at this point, he also decides to mention the mother.

  50. So, why does he mention the mother?

  51. Because one mother is Rahab and the other mother is Ruth.

  52. Rahab was a Canaanite.

  53. Ruth was a Moabite.

  54. In other words, neither one of them was Jewish.

  55. They were non-Jews.

  56. So, realizing that David is their descendant, what he is clearly saying is that even King David is not 100% Jewish.

  57. Even King David has Gentile blood in him.

  58. Race issues are very important in all cultures.

  59. And this past year, we have been going through a lot of racial issues in this country.

  60. And we need to move on with racial issues.

  61. We need to treat each other as brothers, as family, rather than divide and separate and discriminate and things like that.

  62. But, I am Lebanese.

  63. So, I ask my daughter, who is only half Lebanese, what does she think?

  64. Does she think she is an Arab?

  65. Or does she see herself as an American?

  66. How does she see herself?

  67. Or maybe she sees herself as an American Arab?

  68. Or as an Arab American?

  69. For my son, it doesn't seem to matter that much difference.

  70. But for her, it seems to matter a lot.

  71. So, I ask her, when it comes to ISIS, for example, how do you perceive ISIS?

  72. Do you perceive ISIS just as an American who is angry at a group of people who are martyring Christians?

  73. Or do you see ISIS as an Arab?

  74. When I look at ISIS, because I'm an Arab, and because ISIS are Arabs, I look at it differently than she does.

  75. And so, there was, as you know very well, last century, a horrible evil man by the name of Hitler,

  76. Hitler, who thought, absolutely wrongly, that some races are better than other races,

  77. and that, in his case, if you were blonde hair, blue eyes, Aryan, then you were the supreme race.

  78. And that other people, it's okay to kill and send to Auschwitz and Dachau and concentration camps.

  79. And he had three groups of people at the bottom of the list.

  80. The Jews, the gypsies, and the Arabs.

  81. Had he won World War II, I may not even be here.

  82. But Hitler was advocating racial superiority, and we're better than everybody else,

  83. and we're the superior race, and all of you are inferior.

  84. And I think God, in his own sense of humor, decided to humiliate Hitler in public,

  85. in front of the whole world.

  86. And so, in the Berlin Olympics, who was the great American athlete?

  87. Jesse Owen.

  88. And he was an African American, and he is supposed to be inferior to these Aryans.

  89. But God showed that that's a lot of nonsense.

  90. Racial superiority is a lot of nonsense.

  91. It would be easy for somebody to say, we are Jews.

  92. We have the prophets.

  93. We have the Torah.

  94. We have the temple.

  95. We have Moses.

  96. We have all of these things.

  97. And look at our great King David, the greatest king in Israel's history.

  98. And you look at this passage, and guess what?

  99. Rahab is not Jewish, and Ruth is not Jewish.

  100. God is saying, even the greatest Jewish king is not completely Jewish.

  101. Even the greatest Jewish king has Gentile blood in him.

  102. So, don't go around championing racial superiority.

  103. The second passage, Matthew 2, verse 1.

    Matthew 2:1

  104. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judah, during the time of King Herod,

  105. Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked,

  106. Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews?

  107. We saw his star in the east, and we have come to worship him.

  108. Wise men, Magi from the east, saw the star and followed it,

  109. and come to King Herod, who is an Edomian,

  110. and they asked, Where is he born King of the Jews?

  111. Wise men from the east, non-Jews,

  112. Gentile wise men are asking King Herod,

  113. Where is he born King of the Jews?

  114. Hold on here just for a minute.

  115. I want to show you some contrast

  116. to help you appreciate what's going on in Matthew.

  117. Turn to the Gospel of Mark,

  118. to the incident, chapter 4,

  119. where Jesus calms the storm.

  120. So, Jesus was asleep.

  121. There is a horrible storm.

  122. The boat is about to sink.

  123. The disciples are about to die.

  124. So, in Mark 4, 38,

  125. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.

  126. The disciples woke him and said to him,

  127. Teacher, don't you care if we drown?

  128. He got up, rebuked the wind,

  129. and said to the waves,

  130. Quiet, be still.

  131. Then the wind died down,

  132. and it was completely calm.

  133. He said to his disciples,

  134. Why are you so afraid?

  135. Do you still have no faith?

  136. That's not a compliment, by the way.

  137. They were terrified and asked each other,

  138. Who is this?

  139. Even the wind and the waves obey him.

  140. Who is asking this question?

  141. Not Sanhedrin,

  142. not Pharisees,

  143. not outsiders,

  144. not some tourists from Egypt.

  145. Jesus' own disciples are asking,

  146. Who is this man that even the wind and the sea obey him?

  147. The irony of it is that they are Jesus' disciples.

  148. They're not some, you know,

  149. Rabbi Gamaliel disciples.

  150. They are Jesus' disciples,

  151. and they still,

  152. after this time that they have spent with him,

  153. approximately a year,

  154. are still wondering,

  155. Who is this guy?

  156. Jesus' own disciples don't know who he is.

  157. Haven't figured him out yet.

  158. And Jesus later on,

  159. just for fun,

  160. asks them,

  161. Who do people say I am?

  162. Ah, you're John the Baptist,

  163. you're this, you're that.

  164. And then he drops the hammer.

  165. Who do you say I am?

  166. Well, there,

  167. the Holy Spirit helped them out.

  168. Here they have no idea.

  169. You are the Christ,

  170. the Son of the living God.

  171. Here,

  172. they're still asking,

  173. Who is this guy?

  174. Go back to Matthew.

  175. The disciples have no idea who Jesus is.

  176. Who in the Gospel of Matthew

  177. is the first group of people

  178. to know who Jesus is?

  179. Gentiles.

  180. Wise men from the East

  181. know Jesus,

  182. know the identity of Jesus,

  183. the position of Jesus,

  184. the rank of Jesus,

  185. better than Jesus' own disciples.

  186. It'd be embarrassing if my,

  187. you know,

  188. if somebody I completely don't know

  189. knows more about my family

  190. than my own children.

  191. That'd be embarrassing.

  192. Wise men from the East,

  193. Gentiles are the first to recognize

  194. who Jesus is.

  195. And so,

  196. and so,

  197. we move to chapter 2,

  198. verse 13.

  199. After the Magi come and visit Jesus,

  200. and give him their gifts,

  201. they return,

  202. they return,

  203. and then in verse 13,

  204. chapter 2, 13,

  205. when they had gone,

  206. an angel of the Lord

  207. appeared to Joseph

  208. in a dream.

  209. Get up,

  210. he said,

  211. take the child

  212. and his mother

  213. and escape to Egypt.

  214. Stay there

  215. until I tell you,

  216. for Herod is going to search

  217. for the child

  218. to kill him.

  219. Jesus' life

  220. is in danger.

  221. It is not time

  222. for Jesus

  223. to die.

  224. It's too early.

  225. It's not the right time.

  226. He will die,

  227. but not now.

  228. But Herod,

  229. fearing competition,

  230. Jesus is the king of the Jews,

  231. wants to eliminate competition

  232. and secure his position.

  233. So,

  234. what he wants to do

  235. is to kill Jesus.

  236. So,

  237. Jesus' life

  238. is being threatened

  239. by a murderer

  240. who wants to kill him.

  241. Of course,

  242. the issue is,

  243. Jesus needs to hide.

  244. But where should he hide?

  245. Where should he hide?

  246. I was thinking of

  247. several places in the Bible

  248. where people hide.

  249. There's a famous passage

  250. from Jeremiah,

    Jeremiah 7 chapter mention

  251. chapter 7.

  252. You may not know

  253. that it is from

  254. Jeremiah, chapter 7,

    Jeremiah 7 chapter mention

  255. but you've heard

  256. the passage.

  257. The prophet Jeremiah

  258. asks the evil leaders,

  259. has this house

  260. which is called

  261. by my name

  262. become a den of robbers

  263. in your sight?

  264. Has this house

  265. which is called

  266. by my name

  267. become a den

  268. of robbers?

  269. What do robbers

  270. do in caves

  271. or in dens?

  272. They hide

  273. so as not to get caught.

  274. so there were

  275. all these evil people

  276. who were disobeying God

  277. and wanted to hide

  278. so that God

  279. wouldn't catch them

  280. and others wouldn't see

  281. that they are evil men

  282. and be safe.

  283. And of all the places

  284. they decided to hide,

  285. they decided to hide

  286. in the temple.

  287. So,

  288. Jesus could have hidden

  289. in the temple.

  290. Earlier,

  291. when another king's life

  292. was in danger,

  293. the high priest Jehoiada

  294. takes the young prince

  295. and hides him

  296. in the temple

  297. for seven years

  298. where the evil queen

  299. Athaliah

  300. could not kill him.

  301. so he is hidden

  302. in the temple

  303. for seven years

  304. and not found

  305. and was safe.

  306. So,

  307. if I were Joseph,

  308. I would have gone

  309. to a godly high priest

  310. and say,

  311. look,

  312. this is Messiah.

  313. He wants to kill him.

  314. Can you hide him?

  315. But he doesn't.

  316. Where else could you hide?

  317. Well,

  318. David was part

  319. of the court of Saul

  320. until Saul

  321. became very jealous

  322. of David

  323. and people would say

  324. Saul killed his thousand

  325. but David killed

  326. his ten thousand

  327. and David was young

  328. and Saul was getting older

  329. and David was popular

  330. and Saul was less popular

  331. and so jealousy set in

  332. and Saul decided

  333. to kill David.

  334. So,

  335. where does David hide?

  336. in the Judean wilderness

  337. and you can read

  338. several fugitive psalms

  339. in which David wrote

  340. while he was a fugitive

  341. hiding from Saul

  342. trying not to be captured.

  343. Then we have

  344. a repetition of this

  345. with Absalom,

  346. David's son

  347. who becomes king

  348. and wants to kill his father

  349. and David hides

  350. in the Judean wilderness

  351. and you know

  352. what was so well hid

  353. in the Judean wilderness

  354. that for two thousand years

  355. nobody found it.

  356. Two thousand years

  357. and nobody found it.

  358. The Dead Sea Scrolls

  359. in the caves

  360. just above the Dead Sea.

  361. So,

  362. Jesus could have been hid

  363. in the Judean wilderness

  364. for two thousand years

  365. and he wouldn't have been caught.

  366. But where does he hide?

  367. In Egypt.

  368. Think about that.

  369. Of all the places

  370. in this world,

  371. where does Jesus

  372. find refuge?

  373. In a Gentile

  374. country.

  375. country.

  376. Gentiles

  377. provide David

  378. safety.

  379. Safety.

  380. Moving on.

  381. Chapter 8.

  382. Chapter 8,

  383. verse 5.

  384. When Jesus

  385. had entered

  386. Capernaum,

  387. a centurion,

  388. that's a Roman soldier,

  389. a captain of a company,

  390. a centurion

  391. came to him

  392. asking for help.

  393. Lord,

  394. he said,

  395. my servant

  396. lies at home

  397. paralyzed

  398. and in terrible suffering.

  399. Jesus said to him,

  400. I'll go and heal him.

  401. The centurion

  402. replied,

  403. Lord,

  404. I don't deserve

  405. to have you

  406. under my roof,

  407. but just say the word

  408. and my servant

  409. will be healed.

  410. For I myself

  411. am a man

  412. under authority

  413. with soldiers

  414. under me.

  415. I tell this one

  416. go and he goes

  417. and this one

  418. come and he comes.

  419. I say to my servant,

  420. do this

  421. and he does it.

  422. Look at verse 10.

  423. When Jesus

  424. heard this,

  425. he was astonished.

  426. Only two places

  427. in the Gospel

  428. of Matthew

  429. where it says

  430. Jesus was astonished.

  431. When Jesus

  432. heard this,

  433. he was astonished

  434. and he said

  435. to those

  436. following him,

  437. I tell you

  438. the truth.

  439. I have not found

  440. anyone in Israel

  441. with such

  442. great faith.

  443. Who is the person

  444. who

  445. in all of Israel

  446. had the greatest

  447. faith

  448. that Jesus

  449. ever saw?

  450. A Roman

  451. centurion.

  452. A Roman

  453. centurion.

  454. I would have thought

  455. that the disciples

  456. would have the greatest

  457. amount of faith.

  458. They don't.

  459. Maybe

  460. Nicodemus.

  461. No.

  462. Of all the people

  463. who had the greatest

  464. faith,

  465. of all the people,

  466. the one who had

  467. the greatest faith

  468. was a Roman

  469. centurion.

  470. I understand

  471. what he's talking

  472. about

  473. because I served

  474. in the army

  475. for two years

  476. during the Vietnam

  477. era.

  478. I was working

  479. on my PhD

  480. at the time

  481. and so

  482. I was drafted

  483. into the army.

  484. They made us

  485. take exams

  486. and I was the only one

  487. with close to a PhD

  488. and all the other

  489. students

  490. were just graduating

  491. from high school

  492. so they would score

  493. and then suddenly

  494. it would curve

  495. and shoot up

  496. and my score

  497. would be here

  498. and their score

  499. would be here

  500. which it should

  501. since I had about

  502. four years,

  503. five years more education

  504. than they did

  505. and the people said

  506. but you know

  507. you should become

  508. a captain

  509. in the army

  510. not a private

  511. and if you're a private

  512. you have to salute

  513. everybody

  514. you have to do push-ups

  515. if the drill sergeant

  516. is mad at you

  517. you have to do

  518. all of these things

  519. and then they put

  520. this idea

  521. in my mind

  522. become a helicopter pilot

  523. you will start

  524. as a captain

  525. wow

  526. and then he said

  527. you know what you can do

  528. as a captain

  529. you can go back

  530. to basic training camp

  531. and make the drill sergeant

  532. who harassed you so much

  533. salute you all day long

  534. and I thought

  535. to myself

  536. sweet revenge

  537. I'd make him do

  538. as many push-ups

  539. as he made me do

  540. push-ups

  541. in the army

  542. if a captain

  543. gives you an order

  544. you don't do this

  545. you do not do

  546. what I'm going to do next

  547. I'll say

  548. oh sir

  549. you give me an order

  550. did you go to West Point

  551. no you didn't go

  552. to West Point

  553. oh so you went

  554. to an inferior

  555. military school

  556. what was your GPA

  557. what was your grade

  558. point average

  559. did you graduate

  560. in the top third

  561. middle third

  562. or lower third

  563. lower third

  564. so you're an inferior

  565. student

  566. you know

  567. are you in good

  568. physical condition

  569. no you're not

  570. I'm in better

  571. good physical condition

  572. than you

  573. ah

  574. well

  575. based on this data

  576. I'm not going

  577. to do anything

  578. you know

  579. go back to school

  580. get in shape

  581. improve your IQ

  582. and then I'll think

  583. about obeying you

  584. you think it works

  585. like that in the army

  586. you think so

  587. what matters

  588. is the rank

  589. not the person

  590. and so the Roman

  591. centurion says

  592. I give orders

  593. and they obey

  594. I don't have to be there

  595. I give orders

  596. they obey

  597. Jesus guess what

  598. you give orders

  599. the sickness

  600. will obey

  601. you've got power

  602. you can do it

  603. you don't have to be there

  604. when Eisenhower

  605. launched

  606. D-Day

  607. did he have to be

  608. on the beach

  609. no he didn't

  610. he could launch it

  611. from his headquarters

  612. you don't have to be there

  613. but you have the power

  614. you order it

  615. and nature will obey

  616. and Jesus says

  617. I've never seen

  618. anybody in Israel

  619. with so much faith

  620. the person

  621. with the most faith

  622. in Israel

  623. is a Roman soldier

  624. a Gentile

  625. and then a couple more

  626. take a look

  627. at Matthew 28

  628. Matthew 28

  629. this is

  630. the famous

  631. great commission passage

  632. in verse 18

  633. Jesus says

  634. then Jesus came to them

  635. and said

  636. all authority

  637. in heaven

  638. and on earth

  639. have been given to me

  640. therefore go

  641. and make disciples

  642. of all nations

  643. baptizing them

  644. in the name of the Father

  645. and the Son

  646. and of the Holy Spirit

  647. and teaching them

  648. to obey everything

  649. I have commanded you

  650. and surely

  651. I am with you

  652. always

  653. to the very end

  654. of the age

  655. look what the

  656. great commission is

  657. it is not

  658. go

  659. to every Jewish

  660. village

  661. and make a disciple

  662. it is not

  663. go to every Jewish

  664. town

  665. and make disciples

  666. it is not

  667. go to every Jewish

  668. city

  669. and make disciples

  670. it is what

  671. go to the whole

  672. world

  673. the gospel

  674. of Matthew

  675. begins

  676. with the world

  677. the wise men

  678. coming to Jesus

  679. it ends

  680. with Jesus

  681. going

  682. to the whole world

  683. they come

  684. to him

  685. he goes

  686. to them

  687. what does

  688. Jesus want

  689. he wants

  690. disciples

  691. from the whole

  692. world

  693. to put it

  694. in different

  695. words

  696. he wants

  697. Gentile

  698. disciples

  699. he wants

  700. not just

  701. from a small

  702. circle

  703. just from

  704. one family

  705. or just

  706. from one tribe

  707. or just

  708. from one

  709. nationality

  710. or just

  711. one ethnic

  712. group

  713. he wants

  714. disciples

  715. from the whole

  716. world

  717. and then

  718. Matthew 21

  719. which is a

  720. famous parable

  721. of Jesus

  722. in which

  723. Jesus

  724. is

  725. describing

  726. God's

  727. frustrations

  728. with Israel

  729. he sends

  730. them

  731. his words

  732. prophets

  733. with prophets

  734. so they

  735. beat one

  736. they curse

  737. the other

  738. one

  739. they kill

  740. the third

  741. one

  742. so he

  743. sends them

  744. more prophets

  745. and they

  746. mistreat them

  747. as well

  748. just the same

  749. and then he

  750. says

  751. I'm going to

  752. send them

  753. my son

  754. they will

  755. respect my

  756. son

  757. my son

  758. is not

  759. just another

  760. prophet

  761. my son

  762. is my

  763. son

  764. prophets

  765. are here

  766. and he

  767. is here

  768. this is

  769. the last

  770. ultimatum

  771. and what

  772. do they

  773. do

  774. they take

  775. him

  776. and crucify

  777. him

  778. and then

  779. Jesus

  780. says

  781. what do

  782. you think

  783. is going

  784. to happen

  785. with this

  786. kind of

  787. situation

  788. turn to

  789. Matthew

  790. 21

  791. 33

  792. Matthew

  793. 21

  794. starting

  795. with

  796. verse

  797. 42

  798. Jesus

  799. said to

  800. them

  801. have you

  802. never read

  803. in the

  804. scriptures

  805. the stone

  806. the builders

  807. rejected

  808. has become

  809. the capstone

  810. the Lord

  811. has done

  812. this

  813. and it

  814. is marvelous

  815. in our

  816. eyes

  817. so if

  818. Israel

  819. keeps

  820. determined

  821. to reject

  822. God

  823. therefore

  824. I tell

  825. you

  826. that the

  827. kingdom

  828. of God

  829. will be

  830. taken away

  831. from you

  832. and given

  833. to people

  834. who will

  835. produce

  836. its food

  837. you don't

  838. want it

  839. I'll give

  840. it to

  841. somebody

  842. else

  843. and the

  844. somebody

  845. else

  846. are the

  847. Gentiles

  848. if you

  849. have been

  850. listening

  851. there is

  852. a word

  853. that I

  854. used

  855. several

  856. times

  857. actually

  858. every time

  859. we looked

  860. at this

  861. passage

  862. I used

  863. that word

  864. it's the

  865. word

  866. Gentile

  867. I want

  868. you to

  869. remember

  870. we have

  871. four

  872. gospels

  873. one of

  874. them

  875. is written

  876. by Luke

  877. another one

  878. is written

  879. by Matthew

  880. when we

  881. think of

  882. the gospel

  883. of Luke

  884. it is the

  885. gospel

  886. to the

  887. Gentiles

  888. it is

  889. written

  890. to a

  891. Greek

  892. person

  893. by the

  894. name

  895. of

  896. Theophilus

  897. and it

  898. is designed

  899. to help

  900. Gentiles

  901. convert

  902. so in

  903. our own

  904. minds

  905. we have

  906. this

  907. dichotomy

  908. Luke

  909. is for

  910. the Gentiles

  911. and Matthew

  912. is for

  913. the Jews

  914. well that

  915. is true

  916. in many

  917. cases

  918. but not

  919. in every

  920. case

  921. even in

  922. this gospel

  923. which is

  924. written

  925. for Jews

  926. the

  927. concern

  928. is with

  929. the Gentiles

  930. I can

  931. understand

  932. it

  933. if Luke

  934. is concerned

  935. for Gentiles

  936. I mean

  937. that would

  938. be natural

  939. but a

  940. Jew

  941. like Matthew

  942. records

  943. that God

  944. is concerned

  945. with the

  946. Gentiles

  947. Matthew

  948. is concerned

  949. with the

  950. other

  951. group

  952. which now

  953. brings me

  954. to the

  955. application

  956. who

  957. in our

  958. case

  959. is the

  960. other

  961. group

  962. who

  963. in our

  964. case

  965. is the

  966. other

  967. group

  968. who

  969. in our

  970. case

  971. are

  972. those

  973. who

  974. are

  975. not

  976. in

  977. our

  978. small

  979. group

  980. inner

  981. circle

  982. this

  983. congregation

  984. whom

  985. does God

  986. want us

  987. to go

  988. to

  989. when he

  990. says

  991. go to

  992. the

  993. ends

  994. of the

  995. world

  996. where

  997. should we

  998. go

  999. first

  1000. I am

  1001. sure

  1002. because

  1003. when I

  1004. was an

  1005. elder

  1006. we

  1007. talked

  1008. about

  1009. this

  1010. often

  1011. I am

  1012. sure

  1013. that we

  1014. were going

  1015. to have

  1016. a

  1017. family

  1018. night

  1019. and

  1020. we

  1021. affirm

  1022. our

  1023. commitment

  1024. as a

  1025. church

  1026. our

  1027. mission

  1028. our

  1029. goals

  1030. our

  1031. values

  1032. we

  1033. do

  1034. not

  1035. want

  1036. to be

  1037. a

  1038. private

  1039. club

  1040. an

  1041. inclusive

  1042. society

  1043. a

  1044. closed

  1045. door

  1046. that

  1047. unless

  1048. you're

  1049. in it

  1050. you can't

  1051. join it

  1052. we

  1053. want

  1054. the

  1055. door

  1056. to be

  1057. open

  1058. we

  1059. want

  1060. to

  1061. go

  1062. out

  1063. we

  1064. want

  1065. God

  1066. to do

  1067. his

  1068. will

  1069. in

  1070. Kenosha

  1071. whether

  1072. it

  1073. is

  1074. tutoring

  1075. little

  1076. children

  1077. or

  1078. witnessing

  1079. I don't

  1080. know

  1081. we'd

  1082. have to

  1083. ask

  1084. ourselves

  1085. where

  1086. where do

  1087. we go

  1088. who are

  1089. the other

  1090. group

  1091. other than

  1092. us

  1093. and so

  1094. what can

  1095. you do

  1096. you can

  1097. think

  1098. about

  1099. that

  1100. ask

  1101. yourself

  1102. whom

  1103. do I

  1104. have

  1105. burden

  1106. for

  1107. other

  1108. than

  1109. my

  1110. immediate

  1111. family

  1112. of

  1113. course

  1114. I

  1115. have

  1116. a

  1117. burden

  1118. for

  1119. my

  1120. son

  1121. of

  1122. course

  1123. I

  1124. have

  1125. a

  1126. burden

  1127. for

  1128. my

  1129. daughter

  1130. of

  1131. course

  1132. I

  1133. have

  1134. a

  1135. burden

  1136. for

  1137. my

  1138. grandchildren

  1139. that

  1140. just

  1141. seems

  1142. natural

  1143. I mean

  1144. it doesn't

  1145. take extra special

  1146. measure to have

  1147. burden for

  1148. one's family

  1149. but anybody

  1150. else

  1151. do I have

  1152. any students

  1153. in my case

  1154. that I have

  1155. a special

  1156. burden for

  1157. yes

  1158. and some

  1159. of them

  1160. I know

  1161. very well

  1162. and some

  1163. of them

  1164. I hardly

  1165. know at

  1166. all

  1167. but I

  1168. have

  1169. a burden

  1170. for them

  1171. and I

  1172. I try

  1173. to befriend

  1174. them

  1175. and talk

  1176. to them

  1177. and reach

  1178. out to

  1179. them

  1180. and in

  1181. my case

  1182. I have

  1183. 15 weeks

  1184. to do it

  1185. and I see

  1186. them three

  1187. times every

  1188. week

  1189. and I am

  1190. an authority

  1191. figure

  1192. you don't

  1193. accept the

  1194. Lord

  1195. you don't

  1196. pass this

  1197. class

  1198. not really

  1199. not really

  1200. I have

  1201. students

  1202. God

  1203. wants me

  1204. to reach

  1205. I have

  1206. relatives

  1207. God

  1208. wants me

  1209. to reach

  1210. there may

  1211. be people

  1212. in Kenosha

  1213. that God

  1214. wants me

  1215. to reach

  1216. and the

  1217. same

  1218. to Christ

  1219. the King

  1220. so ask

  1221. yourself

  1222. for whom

  1223. do I have

  1224. burdens

  1225. who are

  1226. the others

  1227. outside

  1228. of my

  1229. inner

  1230. small

  1231. inner

  1232. circle

  1233. and the

  1234. second

  1235. thing

  1236. is

  1237. you know

  1238. stop

  1239. the elders

  1240. or some

  1241. leaders

  1242. in the

  1243. church

  1244. and say

  1245. what can

  1246. we do

  1247. with this

  1248. fit

  1249. in terms

  1250. of the

  1251. larger

  1252. ministry

  1253. of our

  1254. church

  1255. what do

  1256. we want

  1257. to focus

  1258. on

  1259. knowing

  1260. that we

  1261. cannot do

  1262. everything

  1263. let's at

  1264. least do

  1265. something

  1266. and let's

  1267. arrive at

  1268. a

  1269. consensus

  1270. that that's

  1271. where we

  1272. want to

  1273. head

  1274. so what's

  1275. the second

  1276. tree

  1277. tree

  1278. in Matthew

  1279. the first

  1280. tree

  1281. God is

  1282. fulfilling

  1283. his promises

  1284. to the

  1285. prophets

  1286. the second

  1287. tree

  1288. God is

  1289. concerned

  1290. about

  1291. taking the

  1292. gospel

  1293. to the

  1294. Gentiles

  1295. to the

  1296. whole

  1297. world

  1298. not just

  1299. us

  1300. but the

  1301. whole

  1302. world

  1303. let's

  1304. have a

  1305. word of

  1306. prayer

  1307. Lord

  1308. Father

  1309. thank you

  1310. for these

  1311. dear

  1312. brothers

  1313. and sisters

  1314. who are

  1315. here

  1316. thank you

  1317. for placing

  1318. us in a

  1319. family that

  1320. is really

  1321. special

  1322. with many

  1323. with maybe

  1324. even so

  1325. many godly

  1326. people who

  1327. love you

  1328. and care

  1329. about you

  1330. thank you

  1331. for our

  1332. desire

  1333. to reach

  1334. out

  1335. give strength

  1336. and wisdom

  1337. to our

  1338. desire

  1339. give

  1340. an

  1341. obedient

  1342. heart

  1343. and a

  1344. caring

  1345. heart

  1346. and may

  1347. you guide

  1348. us

  1349. the elders

  1350. the congregation

  1351. as a whole

  1352. as we

  1353. reflect

  1354. about

  1355. our

  1356. mission

  1357. and what

  1358. you would

  1359. want us

  1360. to be

  1361. and do

  1362. I ask

  1363. you these

  1364. things

  1365. Lord

  1366. Father

  1367. in Jesus

  1368. precious

  1369. name

  1370. Amen

  1371. I

  1372. .

  1373. Amen

  1374. Amen
