  1. Well, we've entered Advent season.

  2. I love Christmas time.

  3. I love the food.

  4. Do I have an amen?

  5. I love the traditions.

  6. I do love the singing.

  7. You know, last night, we sang 10 songs last night

  8. at the Christmas sing,

  9. and they were just all full of Advent glory.

  10. Hark the herald angels sing,

  11. joy to the world, what child is this?

  12. Theologically rich,

  13. melodically satisfying,

  14. and it was just good to be together.

  15. I mean, we're singing about this miracle

  16. of the second person of the Trinity

  17. who has eternally existed,

  18. took on human flesh,

  19. and has remained incarnate since.

  20. Man!

  21. Every December, we ponder anew this miracle,

  22. this wonder,

  23. the miracle of the incarnation.

  24. So, have you heard the word Advent?

  25. That word Advent may be new to your ears,

  26. and that word Advent simply comes from a Latin word

  27. that means arrival or coming.

  28. And so, we have entered the Advent season of Jesus,

  29. and what we typically are talking about

  30. is His first Advent,

  31. when Christ became a man.

  32. Humble, helpless, infant,

  33. lying in a feeding trough.

  34. The second person of the Trinity

  35. who became incarnate,

  36. and what we respond is,

  37. we respond with,

  38. oh, come, let us adore Him

  39. for what a miracle that is.

  40. But,

  41. this Advent season, 224,

  42. I want to help you think about

  43. Christ's second Advent,

  44. the second coming of Jesus,

  45. His second arrival.

  46. When Jesus talks about Himself in Matthew 24,

  47. as the Son of Man will come on the clouds.

  48. So, this Christmas time,

  49. I want you to help,

  50. I want to help you think about

  51. the second Advent of Jesus.

  52. And so,

  53. we're going to be living in between

  54. the Advents this Christmas time.

  55. The first Advent,

  56. oh, come, let us adore Him.

  57. And the second Advent,

  58. where we say,

  59. amen, come Lord Jesus.

  60. So, think of these next several sermons,

  61. as Christmas meditations

  62. on the second Advent of Jesus Christ.

  63. And so, this morning,

  64. I'm going to tackle,

  65. well, if Jesus is no longer in the manger,

  66. where is He and what is He doing?

  67. And then next Sunday,

  68. I'm going to tackle,

  69. when is He coming back?

  70. And then the following Sunday,

  71. I'm going to tackle,

  72. what is He going to do when He comes back?

  73. And then on Christmas Eve,

  74. we're just going to kind of

  75. drill into this promise

  76. Jesus makes at the end of Revelation 22,

  77. where He says,

  78. surely I'm coming soon.

  79. And we say, amen,

  80. come Lord Jesus.

  81. So, the question this morning,

  82. I want to ask is,

  83. where is Jesus now,

  84. and what is He doing?

  85. He's not a helpless infant in a manger,

  86. nor has He come on the clouds.

  87. So, where is Jesus now,

  88. and what is He doing,

  89. and how should we respond to this?

  90. So, let's ask this question

  91. and answer, where is Jesus now?

  92. Now,

  93. if He's not in the manger,

  94. and He hasn't yet returned to the clouds,

  95. where is He?

  96. What I'd like to do for you now

  97. is not my typical approach.

  98. Typically, I'll pick one passage

  99. and exposit it.

  100. But for your edification this morning,

  101. I thought we would do

  102. a New Testament survey

  103. of what a number of New Testament writers

  104. have to say,

  105. how they answer that question,

  106. where is Jesus now?

  107. So, we're going to start off

  108. with Luke.

  109. Luke was one of the disciples of Jesus,

  110. and he wrote the Gospel of Luke,

  111. and he wrote the Acts of the Apostles.

  112. It was a two-volume set

  113. written to this guy named Theophilus,

  114. and in Acts chapter 1,

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  115. we learn this.

  116. In verse 6,

  117. Jesus is with His disciples in Jerusalem.

  118. They ask Him,

  119. Lord, will you at this time

  120. restore the kingdom to Israel?

  121. And He says to them,

  122. it's not for you to know

  123. the times or seasons

  124. that the Father has fixed

  125. by His own authority,

  126. but you will receive power

  127. when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,

  128. and you will be my witnesses

  129. in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria,

  130. and to the end of the earth.

  131. And when He said these things,

  132. as they were looking on,

  133. He was lifted up,

  134. and a cloud took Him

  135. out of their sight.

  136. And while they were gazing into heaven

  137. as He went,

  138. behold, two men,

  139. angels, stood by them in white robes,

  140. and He said,

  141. and they said,

  142. men of Galilee,

  143. why do you stand looking into heaven?

  144. This Jesus,

  145. who was taken up from you

  146. into heaven,

  147. will He come in the same way

  148. as you saw Him go into heaven?

  149. He'll come back on a cloud.

  150. What Luke does is here,

  151. he relays this historic event,

  152. and he locates Jesus in heaven.

  153. And if you'd flip to Acts chapter 7,

    Acts 7 chapter mention

  154. this is the account of when

  155. Stephen was martyred,

  156. and in verses 54 and 55,

  157. we read this.

  158. Now, when they heard these things,

  159. the Jews,

  160. they were enraged,

  161. and they ground their teeth

  162. at Stephen.

  163. But he, Stephen,

  164. full of the Spirit,

  165. gazed into heaven

  166. and saw the glory of God

  167. and Jesus standing

  168. at the right hand of God.

  169. Now, that little phrase,

  170. the right hand of God,

  171. is what I want you to hear.

  172. Because at least Luke

  173. has located the risen,

  174. ascended Jesus Christ

  175. at the right hand of God in heaven.

  176. Let's see what else

  177. some of these New Testament writers

  178. have to say.

  179. Let's turn to the Apostle Paul.

  180. In Romans chapter 8,

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  181. one of the all-time favorite chapters

  182. in the Bible.

  183. Chapter 8, verse 31,

  184. Paul writes,

  185. What then shall we say

  186. to these things?

  187. If God is for us,

  188. who can be against us?

  189. That in and of itself

  190. is a beauty.

  191. He who did not spare his own son,

  192. but gave him up for us all,

  193. how will he not also with him

  194. graciously give us all things?

  195. Who shall bring any charge

  196. against God's elect?

  197. You being condemned, Christian?

  198. It is God who justifies.

  199. Who is it to condemn?

  200. Christ Jesus is the one who died.

  201. More than that,

  202. he was raised.

  203. Who is at the right hand of God.

  204. Who indeed is interceding for us.

  205. So Luke places Jesus,

  206. the risen Christ,

  207. at the right hand of God in heaven.

  208. And now Paul does.

  209. And if you flip over to Ephesians chapter 1,

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  210. in verses 15 through 23,

  211. Paul's praying this triune prayer

  212. for the Ephesian church.

  213. And in verse 19,

  214. he's praying that they would know

  215. the immeasurable greatness

  216. of his power towards them

  217. who believe,

  218. according to the working

  219. of his great might,

  220. that he worked,

  221. verse 20,

  222. in Christ,

  223. when he raised him from the dead

  224. and seated him at the right hand

  225. in the heavenly places,

  226. far above all rule and authority

  227. and power and dominion

  228. and above every name that is named,

  229. not only in this age,

  230. but also in the one to come.

  231. And he put all things under his feet.

  232. Where is Christ Jesus right now?

  233. At the right hand of God.

  234. All things have been put under his feet.

  235. Okay, so we've got two New Testament writers.

  236. How about the writer of Hebrews?

  237. Hebrews chapter 8, verse 1.

    Hebrews 8:1

  238. Now the point in what we are saying is this.

  239. We have such a high priest.

  240. One who is seated at the right hand

  241. of the throne of the majesty in heaven.

  242. And then if you flip over to Hebrews chapter 10,

    Hebrews 10:11–14

  243. verses 11 through 14,

  244. we read this.

  245. And every priest stands daily at his service,

  246. offering repeatedly the same sacrifices,

  247. which can never take away sins.

  248. But when Christ had suffered for all time,

  249. a single sacrifice for sins,

  250. he sat down at the right hand of God,

  251. waiting from that time until his enemy

  252. should be made a footstool for his feet.

  253. For by a single offering,

  254. he has perfected for all time

  255. those who are being sanctified.

  256. Do you know what that means?

  257. Jesus died on the cross,

  258. paid for our sin,

  259. and made obsolete for all time

  260. the Old Testament sacrificial system.

  261. And he sat down, done,

  262. paid for.

  263. Where does the writer of Hebrews locate Jesus

  264. following his resurrection?

  265. At the right hand of God in heaven.

  266. How about 1 Peter?

  267. Peter, where do you place Jesus?

  268. 1 Peter 3, verses 18 through 22.

    1 Peter 3:18–22

  269. 2 Peter 3, verses 18 through 22.

  270. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

  271. who has gone into heaven

  272. and is at the right hand of God

  273. with angels, authorities, and powers

  274. having been subjected to him.

  275. Where does Peter put Jesus?

  276. Having been crucified and raised from the dead,

  277. he is at the right hand of God

  278. and all things have been subjected to him.

  279. And then there's John the Revelator.

  280. In Revelation chapter 5,

    Revelation 5 chapter mention

  281. instead of John kind of writing something

  282. to instruct us,

  283. he shares a vision with us.

  284. Chapter 5, verse 1.

  285. Then I, John, saw at the right,

  286. the right hand of him who's seated on the throne.

  287. That's God the Father.

  288. A scroll written within it

  289. and on the back sealed with seven seals.

  290. That scroll, my best understanding,

  291. is God's unfolding purposes

  292. for the fullness of time.

  293. And each seal represents an advancement

  294. in God's fullness of his plan.

  295. And so God is on his throne

  296. holding up a sealed scroll

  297. with his right hand.

  298. John says in verse 2,

  299. I saw a mighty angel

  300. proclaim with a loud voice,

  301. Who is worthy to open the scroll

  302. and break its seals?

  303. No one in heaven or earth

  304. or under the earth

  305. was able to open the scroll

  306. or to look into it.

  307. No one was qualified.

  308. John begins to weep loudly, verse 4,

  309. because no one was found worthy

  310. to open the scroll.

  311. Verse 5,

  312. And one of the elders said to me,

  313. Weep no more.

  314. Behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah,

  315. the root of David,

  316. has conquered,

  317. so that he can open the scroll

  318. and its seven seals.

  319. And between the throne

  320. and the four living creatures

  321. and among the elders,

  322. I saw a lamb standing

  323. as though it had been slain

  324. with seven horns

  325. and with seven eyes,

  326. which are the seven spirits of God

  327. sent out into all the earth.

  328. And he went

  329. and he took the scroll

  330. from the right hand

  331. of him who was seated

  332. on the throne.

  333. And then he starts opening it.

  334. What John does

  335. is he pictures for us

  336. Jesus,

  337. the risen Christ,

  338. the lamb that was slain,

  339. but is alive

  340. at the right hand of God

  341. in the throne room in heaven.

  342. And he grabs the scroll

  343. that no one else could grab

  344. and says,

  345. Now it's for me

  346. to execute this plan.

  347. The right hand of God

  348. is the place

  349. of royal executive power

  350. and authority.

  351. It's the place of the king.

  352. So what we see here

  353. in these five examples

  354. of New Testament writers,

  355. they are all pointing

  356. to the risen Christ

  357. at the right hand of God

  358. in heaven.

  359. And I want to let you know

  360. is that's fulfillment.

  361. Hear the word,

  362. brothers and sisters.

  363. Hear this

  364. from 2 Samuel.

  365. God's speaking to David.

  366. When your days are fulfilled

  367. and you lie down

  368. with your fathers,

  369. I will raise up

  370. your offspring after you

  371. who shall come

  372. from your body,

  373. the root of David,

  374. and I will establish

  375. his kingdom.

  376. We all know this one.

  377. To us,

  378. a child is born.

  379. To us,

  380. a son is given.

  381. And the government

  382. shall be upon his shoulder

  383. and his name shall be called

  384. Wonderful Counselor,

  385. Mighty God,

  386. Everlasting Father,

  387. Prince of Peace,

  388. of the increase

  389. of his government

  390. and of peace.

  391. There will be no end

  392. on the throne of David

  393. and over his kingdom

  394. to establish it

  395. and to uphold it

  396. with justice

  397. and with righteousness

  398. from this time forth

  399. and forevermore.

  400. The zeal of the Lord

  401. of hosts

  402. will do this.

  403. Fulfillment.

  404. Psalm 110.1,

  405. The Lord said to my Lord,

  406. Sit at my right hand

  407. until I make your enemies

  408. your footstool.

  409. Luke chapter 1,

    Luke 1 chapter mention

  410. The angel Gabriel

  411. speaks to the virgin Mary,

  412. And behold,

  413. you will conceive

  414. in your womb

  415. and bear a son

  416. and you shall call

  417. his name Jesus.

  418. He will be great

  419. and will be called

  420. the son of the most high

  421. and the Lord God

  422. will give to him

  423. the throne of his father,

  424. David,

  425. and he will reign

  426. over the house of Jacob

  427. forever

  428. and of his kingdom

  429. there will be no end.

  430. Where is Jesus right now?

  431. At the right hand

  432. of God the father

  433. in heaven

  434. seated on David's throne.

  435. He's not in a manger

  436. and he hasn't returned

  437. on the clouds.

  438. In the manger,

  439. he was an incarnate,

  440. helpless babe.

  441. At his second advent,

  442. he is going to be

  443. the incarnate,

  444. glorious,

  445. conquering king.

  446. And right now,

  447. our Jesus

  448. is the incarnate king

  449. seated on the throne.

  450. And he's living

  451. between his advents.

  452. Just as we're living

  453. between his advents.

  454. He is the royal executor

  455. with all power

  456. and authority

  457. to accomplish

  458. the father's will

  459. in full.

  460. that's where he is

  461. right now.

  462. When you woke up,

  463. when you're stressed

  464. out this week,

  465. that's where he is

  466. right now.

  467. In the Apostles' Creed

  468. section says this,

  469. on the third day

  470. he rose again,

  471. he ascended into heaven,

  472. he is seated

  473. at the right hand

  474. of the father

  475. and he will come again

  476. to judge the living

  477. and the dead.

  478. Where is Jesus

  479. right now?

  480. He's not in a manger,

  481. he's not in the clouds,

  482. he's at the right hand

  483. of God in heaven.

  484. Now,

  485. I realize

  486. we're 18 minutes

  487. into this sermon

  488. and I have just

  489. dropped a lot

  490. of information on you.

  491. And you might want

  492. to check out,

  493. like you check out

  494. after Thanksgiving,

  495. like whoa.

  496. You can check out.

  497. But,

  498. if you're in the room

  499. and there's this question

  500. that's been raised

  501. with you now,

  502. okay,

  503. he's in heaven,

  504. I see that.

  505. And it begs the question,

  506. so what is he doing?

  507. What is he doing

  508. in heaven now?

  509. If you want

  510. the answer

  511. to that question,

  512. you just go on

  513. with me?

  514. Because he's doing

  515. four things,

  516. at least,

  517. this is not exhaustive,

  518. he's about

  519. four activities

  520. right now

  521. at the right hand

  522. of God

  523. on David's throne

  524. accomplishing his purposes.

  525. You ready for him?

  526. Number one,

  527. he's upholding

  528. his creation.

  529. We read that already

  530. from Colossians 1,

  531. but I want to point you

  532. to Hebrews 1.

  533. Long ago,

  534. at many times

  535. and in many ways,

  536. God spoke to our fathers

  537. by the prophets,

  538. but in these last days

  539. he has spoken to us

  540. by his Son,

  541. whom he appointed

  542. the heir of all things,

  543. through whom also

  544. he created the world.

  545. He is the radiance

  546. of the glory of God

  547. in the exact imprint

  548. of his nature,

  549. and he upholds

  550. the universe

  551. by the word

  552. of his power.

  553. After making purification

  554. for sins,

  555. he sat down

  556. at the right hand

  557. of the majesty

  558. on high.

  559. Amen.

  560. What is Jesus

  561. doing right now?

  562. He's upholding

  563. everything

  564. by the word

  565. of his power.

  566. There are over

  567. eight billion people

  568. on the planet

  569. as I speak.

  570. Everyone has

  571. a next breath.

  572. Every next breath

  573. comes from the throne.

  574. All eight billion people

  575. on the planet

  576. are dependent

  577. on this risen

  578. and reigning Christ,

  579. whether they are willing

  580. to acknowledge it

  581. or not.

  582. They all depend on him.

  583. The first thing

  584. he is doing

  585. right now

  586. is upholding

  587. his creation,

  588. and he's not

  589. breaking a sweat.

  590. The second thing

  591. that he's doing

  592. in addition

  593. to upholding

  594. his creation

  595. is he's expanding

  596. his kingdom.

  597. We learned

  598. how Jesus

  599. is the fulfillment

  600. of 2 Samuel 7.

  601. He's the descendant

  602. of David

  603. who will sit

  604. on his throne.

  605. He is the Isaiah 9,

  606. 6, and 7,

  607. this wonderful counselor,

  608. this mighty God,

  609. everlasting Father,

  610. Prince of Peace,

  611. whose government

  612. is on his shoulders,

  613. and it's increasing

  614. by the zeal of God.

  615. He's the guy.

  616. He's the one.

  617. His kingdom

  618. has come.

  619. It's the saving reign

  620. of God

  621. in the person

  622. of Jesus Christ,

  623. and right now

  624. our Lord Jesus

  625. on the throne.

  626. He is expanding

  627. his kingdom.

  628. He is delivering

  629. people from the

  630. domain of darkness

  631. and bringing them

  632. into his kingdom,

  633. the kingdom of light,

  634. the kingdom of his

  635. beloved son.

  636. And so,

  637. Matthew 16, 18,

  638. Jesus is speaking

  639. to Peter.

  640. He says,

  641. on this rock,

  642. I will build

  643. my church

  644. and the gates

  645. of Hades,

  646. hell,

  647. will not prevail

  648. against it.

  649. Right now,

  650. Jesus from the throne

  651. is building his church.

  652. And when you hear church,

  653. don't think

  654. physical structures.

  655. Think of

  656. all of God's people

  657. from all around

  658. the world,

  659. from every tribe,

  660. tongue, and nation

  661. who are flipped

  662. by his grace

  663. and become his

  664. worshipers.

  665. The church.

  666. He's expanding

  667. his kingdom.

  668. In Matthew 28,

  669. he's sending out

  670. his disciples

  671. to make more

  672. of his disciples

  673. who will

  674. treasure him

  675. above all else

  676. and obey him

  677. and all that

  678. he commands

  679. and magnify him

  680. among all people

  681. and belong

  682. to King Jesus

  683. with all of his

  684. blood bought.

  685. He is doing this

  686. right now

  687. from the throne.

  688. He's expanding

  689. his kingdom.

  690. Book of Acts.

  691. The risen Christ

  692. directs his servants

  693. to share the gospel,

  694. start and establish

  695. churches,

  696. and multiply churches.

  697. It's in the book

  698. of Acts.

  699. That's what he's doing.

  700. He's doing that now

  701. around the world.

  702. Ephesians chapter 4,

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  703. 11 through 12.

  704. The risen Christ

  705. is giving gifts

  706. to the church.

  707. Gifts of people,

  708. gifts of leaders,

  709. under shepherds

  710. to bring health,

  711. to protect,

  712. and direct God's people.

  713. He's giving gifts

  714. to the church.

  715. Revelation chapter 1,

    Revelation 1:12–13

  716. verses 12 through 13.

  717. Revelation chapter 2

    Revelation 2 chapter mention

  718. and 3.

  719. John the revelator

  720. pictures the risen Christ

  721. walking among the churches.

  722. And what is he doing?

  723. He's inspecting.

  724. He's speaking words

  725. of corrections

  726. and purification

  727. to his church

  728. because he loves

  729. his church.

  730. He's building his church.

  731. He's expanding

  732. his kingdom.

  733. Romans 8, 34.

  734. Hebrews 7, 23 through 25.

  735. 1 John 2, 1.

  736. Jesus enthroned

  737. at the right hand

  738. of God and the Father.

  739. Brothers and sisters,

  740. he is interceding

  741. for you

  742. right now.

  743. You're not nameless

  744. to him.

  745. You're not faceless

  746. to him.

  747. He knows you.

  748. He knows

  749. what burdens you.

  750. He knows

  751. the sins

  752. you've committed.

  753. And he is

  754. interceding

  755. for you right now

  756. by name.

  757. He's your advocate

  758. even when you sin,

  759. even when you blow it

  760. for the 27th time.

  761. He's your propitiation.

  762. He bore God's wrath

  763. for you.

  764. And he is advocating

  765. for you

  766. at the throne.

  767. That's what he's doing.

  768. He's expanding

  769. his kingdom.

  770. Interceding for you.

  771. And then

  772. 2 Corinthians 12,

  773. 8 through 10,

  774. John 15, 5.

  775. He's pouring out grace.

  776. We run

  777. to the throne

  778. of grace

  779. in time of need

  780. and he's pouring

  781. out grace.

  782. He's expanding

  783. his kingdom,

  784. the kingdom of grace.

  785. Grace upon grace,

  786. we bring our weakness.

  787. He brings

  788. the strength

  789. of his grace.

  790. That's what he's doing

  791. right now.

  792. He's not in a manger.

  793. He's not come

  794. in the clouds.

  795. He's seated

  796. on his throne.

  797. Expanding

  798. his kingdom.

  799. So he's upholding

  800. his creation.

  801. He's expanding

  802. his kingdom.

  803. He's receiving

  804. his praise.

  805. One of the things

  806. I didn't point you

  807. to when we were

  808. in Revelation 5

  809. is the response

  810. of all of heaven

  811. to him.

  812. Worthy are you

  813. to take the scroll

  814. and to open its seals

  815. for you were slain

  816. and by your blood

  817. you ransomed

  818. people for God

  819. from every tribe

  820. and language

  821. and people

  822. and nation

  823. and you have made

  824. them a kingdom

  825. and priests

  826. to our God

  827. and they shall reign

  828. on the earth.

  829. Worthy is the Lamb

  830. who was slain

  831. to receive power

  832. and wealth

  833. and wisdom

  834. and might

  835. and honor

  836. and glory

  837. and blessing.

  838. Seven perfect

  839. praises

  840. of Jesus

  841. the risen Lamb.

  842. To him who sits

  843. on the throne

  844. and to the Lamb

  845. be blessing

  846. and honor

  847. and glory

  848. and might

  849. forever and ever.

  850. He is upholding

  851. his creation.

  852. He's expanding

  853. his kingdom.

  854. He's receiving

  855. his praise.

  856. Do you remember

  857. Matthew 1?

  858. The magi come.

  859. They find the baby Jesus.

  860. Do you remember

  861. what they do?

  862. They fall down

  863. before him

  864. and they worship him.

  865. Worship.

  866. He's receiving

  867. his praise

  868. and we

  869. get to join

  870. all of the

  871. angelic host

  872. around the throne

  873. and the saints

  874. that have gone

  875. before us

  876. and every time

  877. we gather

  878. we are singing

  879. his praises

  880. with everybody else.

  881. He's receiving

  882. his praise.

  883. And finally

  884. he's awaiting

  885. his return.

  886. He's looking

  887. at his watch.

  888. He's on his throne.

  889. He's upholding

  890. his creation.

  891. He's expanding

  892. his kingdom.

  893. He is receiving

  894. his praise

  895. and he's looking

  896. at his watch.

  897. Oh, you've got to

  898. see this passage.

  899. Matthew chapter 24.

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  900. Jesus has just

  901. told the son of man

  902. is going to be

  903. coming on the clouds

  904. and his disciples

  905. want to know

  906. when and where.

  907. And in verse 36

  908. Jesus says,

  909. but concerning

  910. that day and hour

  911. when the son of God

  912. returns on the clouds

  913. no one knows.

  914. Not even the angels

  915. of heaven

  916. nor the son

  917. but the father only.

  918. Not even the son

  919. knows that day

  920. or hour.

  921. And you might be like

  922. how is that possible?

  923. Well, this is an example

  924. of God the son

  925. submitting himself

  926. to the will of God

  927. his father

  928. and so you can

  929. imagine it

  930. in the throne room

  931. of heaven.

  932. Jesus is upholding

  933. his creation

  934. with the word

  935. of his power.

  936. He is expanding

  937. his kingdom of grace.

  938. He is receiving

  939. the praise

  940. due his name

  941. and he is

  942. every once in a while

  943. fathers today

  944. the day.

  945. Am I going back today?

  946. Am I going back today

  947. on the clouds

  948. to make all wrongs right

  949. to judge the world

  950. to bring full

  951. and forever peace

  952. to the blood

  953. but you have given me

  954. is today the day.

  955. He's awaiting his return.

  956. And so do we.

  957. we wait with him.

  958. Jesus is at the right

  959. hand of God.

  960. Where is he?

  961. Right hand of God

  962. seated on the throne.

  963. What is he doing?

  964. Upholding his creation

  965. expanding his kingdom

  966. receiving his praise

  967. and he is looking

  968. at his watch

  969. awaiting his return.

  970. So what

  971. does that

  972. mean for us

  973. today?

  974. Why does that

  975. matter

  976. now?

  977. It broadens

  978. your perspective.

  979. Jesus is bigger

  980. than a plastic

  981. manger seen

  982. in a front yard.

  983. Way bigger.

  984. He's no longer

  985. an incarnate

  986. helpless baby

  987. in a manger

  988. and he's yet

  989. to be the

  990. glorious

  991. incarnate king

  992. coming on the clouds.

  993. No,

  994. this wonderfully

  995. complicates

  996. our Christmas.

  997. Perspective.

  998. This one

  999. in the manger

  1000. is amazing.

  1001. But he's not

  1002. in a manger

  1003. anymore.

  1004. He's all grown up.

  1005. He's sitting

  1006. at the right

  1007. hand of God.

  1008. He's sitting

  1009. on G,

  1010. waiting on O.

  1011. Go!

  1012. He's waiting

  1013. to be sent.

  1014. It really does

  1015. broaden your

  1016. perspective,

  1017. doesn't it?

  1018. It also

  1019. deepens

  1020. your awe.

  1021. When you

  1022. consider

  1023. who Jesus

  1024. is,

  1025. what he's

  1026. done,

  1027. incarnate

  1028. birth,

  1029. what a

  1030. humble act,

  1031. wonderful,

  1032. perfect life,

  1033. died in the

  1034. place of you

  1035. and me,

  1036. sinners,

  1037. was raised

  1038. from the dead,

  1039. ascended on

  1040. high.

  1041. When you

  1042. consider what

  1043. he's done

  1044. and what

  1045. he's doing

  1046. right now,

  1047. what he's

  1048. doing on

  1049. the throne,

  1050. and when you

  1051. consider what

  1052. he's going

  1053. to do when

  1054. he comes

  1055. back,

  1056. we'll get

  1057. to that

  1058. in a couple

  1059. weeks.

  1060. It should

  1061. make you

  1062. awestruck.

  1063. It should

  1064. make you

  1065. wonder.

  1066. It should

  1067. cause you

  1068. to treasure

  1069. Jesus above

  1070. all else.

  1071. He is

  1072. that wonderful.

  1073. It should

  1074. deepen your

  1075. awe.

  1076. It should

  1077. gladden

  1078. your

  1079. worship.

  1080. This

  1081. Christology

  1082. of Jesus

  1083. that unfolds

  1084. in our

  1085. Bibles

  1086. is so

  1087. much

  1088. bigger

  1089. than the

  1090. incarnation

  1091. itself.

  1092. It is

  1093. that,

  1094. but so

  1095. much more,

  1096. which means

  1097. it has this

  1098. additional

  1099. effect.

  1100. It

  1101. loosens

  1102. your grip

  1103. on the

  1104. things of

  1105. this world.

  1106. world.

  1107. It's not

  1108. about what

  1109. you give

  1110. this

  1111. Christmas.

  1112. It's not

  1113. about what

  1114. you get

  1115. this

  1116. Christmas.

  1117. It's

  1118. about who

  1119. God has

  1120. given and

  1121. who he

  1122. will give

  1123. again.

  1124. First

  1125. Advent and

  1126. second

  1127. Advent,

  1128. and it's

  1129. about this

  1130. incarnate king

  1131. on his

  1132. throne that

  1133. is giving

  1134. grace upon

  1135. grace upon

  1136. grace.

  1137. grace upon

  1138. grace upon

  1139. grace upon

  1140. grace upon

  1141. grace upon

  1142. what this

  1143. world has

  1144. to offer

  1145. because there

  1146. is absolutely

  1147. nothing that

  1148. this world

  1149. offers that

  1150. can come

  1151. close to

  1152. satisfying your

  1153. soul.

  1154. Nothing.

  1155. But the

  1156. one on the

  1157. throne can.

  1158. what

  1159. difference does

  1160. this make

  1161. now?

  1162. It

  1163. broadens your

  1164. perspective,

  1165. it deepens

  1166. your awe,

  1167. it loosens

  1168. your grip,

  1169. and it

  1170. builds your

  1171. anticipation.

  1172. If we're

  1173. living between

  1174. the Advents,

  1175. the first

  1176. coming,

  1177. come let us

  1178. adore him,

  1179. and the

  1180. second coming,

  1181. come Lord

  1182. Jesus,

  1183. amen.

  1184. if we're

  1185. living between

  1186. the Advents,

  1187. do you know

  1188. what time it

  1189. is,

  1190. church?

  1191. It's Christ

  1192. time.

  1193. We're all

  1194. living on

  1195. Christ time.

  1196. Synchronize

  1197. your watches

  1198. because we're

  1199. one day closer

  1200. to the second

  1201. Advent where we

  1202. will say,

  1203. glory,

  1204. glory,

  1205. glory to

  1206. you.

  1207. we're

  1208. living between

  1209. the Advents,

  1210. and when we

  1211. think about

  1212. him being

  1213. one day

  1214. closer,

  1215. it should

  1216. build your

  1217. anticipation.

  1218. This Advent

  1219. season,

  1220. we're not

  1221. just going to

  1222. delight in

  1223. the fact that

  1224. the second

  1225. person of

  1226. the Trinity

  1227. has become

  1228. a man,

  1229. and he

  1230. remains a

  1231. man,

  1232. first Advent

  1233. glory,

  1234. come let

  1235. us adore

  1236. him.

  1237. No,

  1238. we're also

  1239. going to

  1240. delight that

  1241. this risen

  1242. king,

  1243. he's coming

  1244. again,

  1245. and we're

  1246. one day

  1247. closer to

  1248. that glorious

  1249. appearing of

  1250. the risen

  1251. Jesus.

  1252. But where

  1253. is he now?

  1254. He's seated

  1255. on his throne

  1256. at the right

  1257. hand of God

  1258. in heaven.

  1259. God's

  1260. God's

  1261. love.

  1262. He's about

  1263. his business,

  1264. and we get

  1265. to be a part

  1266. of what he

  1267. is doing.

  1268. So we will

  1269. be singing

  1270. both,

  1271. come let us

  1272. adore him,

  1273. and amen.

  1274. Come,

  1275. Lord Jesus.

  1276. Will you pray

  1277. with me?

  1278. Lord Jesus,

  1279. we are just

  1280. delighted that

  1281. you would

  1282. humble yourself

  1283. in order to

  1284. rescue us,

  1285. and we

  1286. worship you

  1287. for not just

  1288. your death,

  1289. and your

  1290. resurrection,

  1291. and your

  1292. ascension,

  1293. but your

  1294. present reign,

  1295. and what

  1296. you are

  1297. doing.

  1298. Oh,

  1299. all glory,

  1300. praise,

  1301. and honor

  1302. be to

  1303. your name,

  1304. King Jesus.

  1305. And would

  1306. you,
