  1. I just want to say welcome again to Watermark.

  2. We're so happy that you're here worshiping with us this morning.

  3. We just want to take a couple of minutes and turn around and say good morning to your neighbors

  4. and say Jesus loves you.

  5. Thank you.

  6. You may be seated.

  7. Good morning, Watermark.

  8. How are you?

  9. Hi.

  10. My name is Natalie, and I'm the coordinator of children's ministry here at Watermark.

  11. And so welcome this morning.

  12. We're excited to have you here.

  13. Hi, I'm Melanie Case, and I help with Watermark kids as well.

  14. And so we are excited to kick off this fall.

  15. We have a new curriculum.

  16. It's called the Gospel Project for Kids, and we are excited about it.

  17. There's a lot of modern media, which we know the kids just love.

  18. And so it's visually stimulating, and it's just focused on Jesus Christ,

  19. which we believe here at Watermark to be just the fundamentals of our faith.

  20. And so we wanted to give you a sneak preview.

  21. So watch now.

  22. If this is your first time to Watermark or your third or fourth time,

  23. you realize that we do everything with the family engaged because we feel like it is a family,

  24. and kids need to be involved with the parents, and they need to see the parents' faith,

  25. and they need to see that lived out, and they need to be able to ask a lot of questions.

  26. And so we just feel like that is some of you walking in going, that's crazy.

  27. Tim and Huang are looking at me like, where the heck do we sit right now?

  28. Come on in, guys.

  29. But the kids are engaged, and then they will leave.

  30. But we do crazy things because we feel like we're called to be a family in that sense.

  31. And so I'm going to try something very crazy here.

  32. I would like to ask all the kids who are going to go to Kids Club, I need your help.

  33. I have a problem.

  34. So if you're going to go to Kids Club, will you kids come up here?

  35. I have 300 pieces of chocolate candy I can't eat by myself, but that's not my problem.

  36. Okay, so kids, will you come on up here for me, please?

  37. Come on, guys.

  38. All the kids, come on up here.

  39. Okay, and just kind of sit right there.

  40. Good job.

  41. Well, I can tell who's the most eager ones.

  42. Hey, Geraldine.

  43. Hey, Aurora.

  44. How are you?

  45. What a beautiful dress.

  46. Be nice to your sister, okay?

  47. How are you guys doing?

  48. Good.

  49. Ryder, what are you eating?

  50. Apple.

  51. Apple, okay.

  52. Do you have some too, Willow?

  53. No?

  54. Okay.

  55. Okay, guys, I need your help, okay?

  56. Can you help me?

  57. Okay, okay.

  58. This is what I need.

  59. I'm getting old, and this summer, I was able to travel to many different countries.

  60. Oh, yeah, and in these countries, we used a lot of different money, and some of the money

  61. is better than other money, as your parents can tell you that, but I get confused in how

  62. much the money is worth, so can you help me?

  63. Please?

  64. Okay, so I got some Texas money here.

  65. Okay?

  66. U.S. money, okay?

  67. Okay.

  68. Okay, so this is, this is, so I walked around, and this is a brand new $20 bill.

  69. Does anybody know how much this is worth?

  70. In Hong Kong dollars.

  71. What is it?

  72. Approximately, like $145 to $160.

  73. That's great.

  74. So I, but I forget sometimes, so this is worth like $160, right?

  75. Yeah.

  76. So what if I just take it like this, and I fold it, and put all these creases in it, then

  77. I pull it out.

  78. How much is it worth now?

  79. How much?

  80. Same.

  81. Same.

  82. Okay, so what if I take this dollar bill, and I just, and I rub it all over the carpet

  83. here, and I get dirty stuff all over it?

  84. How much is it worth now?

  85. Same.

  86. Are you telling me the truth?

  87. Yeah.

  88. Okay, what if I do this?

  89. And I just squeeze it up, then I pull it back.

  90. How much is this worth now?

  91. You know the, you know, you know the Bible?

  92. The Bible says that you and I are worth a lot of money.

  93. And that God loves you so much, and the Bible says that no matter what happens in your life,

  94. no matter how many mistakes you make, no matter how many scars you have on you, no matter

  95. how many marks you have on you, that that doesn't change how much you're worth to God.

  96. Because no matter what happens in your life, you're worth everything to God.

  97. Did you know that?

  98. Sometimes we forget.

  99. Sometimes we make mistakes, and we think God doesn't love us.

  100. But the Bible says that God always loves us, no matter how many marks we have on us.

  101. Okay.

  102. Who wants this?

  103. Me!

  104. Adele, I want to give that to you, okay?

  105. Okay.

  106. Hey, guys, will you pray with me?

  107. Let's pray.

  108. Dear God, thank you for this day.

  109. Thank you for your son, Jesus.

  110. Thank you that no matter what we do, you still love us.

  111. You still sent Jesus for us.

  112. Father, help us to love you.

  113. Help us to love our friends.

  114. We love you.

  115. Amen.

  116. Thank you so much, guys.

  117. And I have some chocolate here.

  118. Does anybody want to help me get rid of this?

  119. How much is this chocolate worth?

  120. Okay, I'm going to give this to a teacher, and the teacher's going to take this chocolate

  121. out.

  122. Kids Club, all the kids go to one big room, and then after you spend your time in your big

  123. room, you go to your small classrooms, right?

  124. And the youth, youth are going to dismiss, and they're going to go with Eric, okay?

  125. Okay, so we'll see, you guys.

  126. Watermark kids are dismissed.

  127. Today's scripture comes from the Book of Isaiah and Gospel of Luke.

  128. Please follow along in your bulletin.

  129. The Lord of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all the people on this mountain, a banquet

  130. of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, and refined aged wine.

  131. And on this mountain, he will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples, even the

  132. veil which is stretched over all nations.

  133. He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces.

  134. And he will remove the reproach of his people from all the earth.

  135. For the Lord has spoken, and it will be said in that day, Behold, this is our God for whom

  136. we have waited, that he might save us.

  137. This is the Lord for whom we have waited.

  138. Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.

  139. And he was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching and proceeding

  140. on his way to Jerusalem.

  141. And someone said to him, Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?

  142. And he said to them, Strive to enter through the narrow door.

  143. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

  144. And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and will recline at the

  145. table of the kingdom of God.

  146. And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.

  147. It happened that when he went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees, on the

  148. Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him closely.

  149. When one of those who were reclining at the table with him heard this, he said to him,

  150. Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.

  151. But he said to him, A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many.

  152. And at the dinner hour, he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited,

  153. Come, for everything is ready now.

  154. But they all alike began to make excuses.

  155. The first one said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I need to go out and look

  156. at it.

  157. Please consider me excused.

  158. Another one said, I have bought five yukes of us, and I am going to try them out.

  159. Please consider me excused.

  160. Another one said, I have married a wife, and for that reason, I cannot come.

  161. And the slave came back and reported this to the master.

  162. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, Go out at once into

  163. the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and

  164. lame.

  165. And the slave said, Master, what you have commanded has been done, and still there is room.

  166. And the master said to the slave, Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel

  167. them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

  168. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.

  169. This is God's word.

  170. How's everybody going?

  171. It's quiet.

  172. I didn't know how that Texas money comment would go across, but you know, got to try at

  173. least once.

  174. Okay.

  175. I didn't hear a reply.

  176. How's everybody doing?

  177. How you guys doing?

  178. Good?

  179. Good.

  180. Okay.

  181. You know, I don't know how you feel about the messages we've been listening to and talking

  182. about in Luke.

  183. I was talking to a guy this week.

  184. I promised that if you and I ever talk and I use you as an example, I will ask you first

  185. if I could use you as an example, because I know people don't want to talk to me anymore

  186. because they're afraid they're going to be an example.

  187. And we talked about the passages we've been studying.

  188. And he said to me, he said, man, this is really, these are really, these are really difficult.

  189. I said, well, what do you mean?

  190. He goes, well, I just feel like I've got my Christian life down and I know how to do what,

  191. when, where, and I can have my pattern into my schedule.

  192. And if I go this on Sunday and I do this for community group on Friday and I hang out

  193. with these people on Wednesday, that's my Christian life.

  194. But the passages we're talking about, they're dealing with our heart.

  195. And Jesus is looking at people's heart and he goes, man, I realized really quickly that

  196. I can do all the right things, but have the wrong heart.

  197. And it seems to me as we look at the gospels that Jesus is always going after our motives.

  198. I mean, he doesn't just look at our actions.

  199. He doesn't want us just to have all our ducks in a row, but he's looking at our heart.

  200. And I think that's the killer for me because I realized that I can do things very, very

  201. well and on the outside look perfect, but my heart can be a wreck.

  202. I don't know if you struggle with that.

  203. The Bible says we all struggle with that.

  204. And the passages we've been looking at make it very clear that Jesus wants our heart.

  205. He wants us.

  206. He doesn't just want us to obey.

  207. The last several chapters and then this summer when we did the Proverbs study, we've been talking

  208. about the kingdom of God.

  209. And today we continue talking about the kingdom of God in this passage.

  210. It's very clear.

  211. And what you see in this passage is that Jesus says the kingdom of God is going to be this

  212. massive party.

  213. It's going to be this incredible party.

  214. We see it in the Isaiah passage that you read.

  215. It was 700 years before the story happens today.

  216. We see it in this story.

  217. And we see it throughout all the Bible, banquets and parties and feasts.

  218. Jesus' first miracle was at a banquet.

  219. He turned water to wine and he talks about parties over and over and over.

  220. And it seems like if we look at heaven, if we take a picture of the Bible, it talks about

  221. meals and dinners and parties and banquets hundreds and hundreds of times.

  222. And it's almost as if it's like human history from scripture is one party after another party

  223. after another party.

  224. It starts in the garden and it moves to weddings and Passovers and communions and to the last

  225. supper.

  226. And we're told that all of these parties that we're going to be a part of, all of these parties

  227. pale in comparison to the party that God is going to throw you in heaven when you get

  228. there and spend time with him as his children.

  229. I actually started thinking about this sermon this week and I started thinking about maybe

  230. I would start off with a white piece of paper in everybody's chair and ask you two questions.

  231. The first question I wanted to ask you is what will heaven be like?

  232. And have you write out your thoughts here?

  233. The second question I wanted to ask you is will you be there?

  234. Because in this passage today, Jesus is talking about the kingdom and he's talking about people

  235. and he's talking to the leaders, the officials, the rich, the wealthy, the powerful.

  236. He's talking to the power brokers of his time and he's looking at their heart.

  237. He gets this really deep discussion and all of a sudden somebody shouts out, I don't know

  238. if you have an uncle like this in your family.

  239. I think every family has an uncle like this.

  240. He just says something off the tip of his tongue and you're looking at him like, where

  241. did that come from?

  242. But this guy yells out as his leader after he hears this because there's a lot of tension

  243. in this party because Jesus is talking about the heart.

  244. And this leader stands up and he yells out, blessed is everyone who eats bread in the kingdom

  245. of God.

  246. Now we don't know it when we read it today, but back then that had a lot of assumptions

  247. and a lot of meanings.

  248. When he said that and in that people that he was talking to, everybody, everybody in this

  249. party would have answered question number two, are you going to be there?

  250. A hundred percent yes.

  251. The audience that Jesus was talking to today, they knew without a shadow of a doubt that

  252. they were going to be in heaven.

  253. I mean, they did everything right.

  254. They were worthy.

  255. They kept God's word.

  256. They kept the commandments perfectly.

  257. They did all the right things.

  258. They went to church.

  259. They tithed.

  260. They did all the studies.

  261. They finished the Beth Moore study and a crusade study and a navigator study and they did all

  262. those studies.

  263. In fact, some of them probably wrote those studies.

  264. But there was this assumption that we, at this table, for sure, we're the family of God.

  265. We're going to be in heaven.

  266. And again, Jesus takes what we think and what we assume and he tells a story.

  267. And every time he tells a story, it's like he takes a knife and he cuts open their chest

  268. and he shows them their hearts and he shows us our hearts and he shows us about the kingdom

  269. of God.

  270. He shows us about this great banquet in heaven.

  271. He shows us about heaven.

  272. And there's three things I want to look at really briefly here because we could talk about

  273. this forever and I usually do talk longer than I need to as I'm reminded constantly by my wife.

  274. I love you, honey.

  275. But I want to look at three things this passage tells us today about the kingdom of God, about

  276. heaven, about the banquet that we're all going to eat.

  277. The first thing I think it tells us is that the kingdom of God is now, but not yet.

  278. The next thing I think it tells us is that there is an invite that goes out and it's freely

  279. offered to everybody.

  280. And the last thing that I want to look at in this passage today is that the kingdom of

  281. God and the invite that goes out demands a response.

  282. But we all get this invite and we got to do something with it.

  283. We just can't stick it aside in our box or we can not look at it, but it demands a response.

  284. So let's look in this passage.

  285. Verse 16.

  286. And he said to him, a man was giving a big dinner in Greek, a massive, so they use watermark

  287. terms, a massive feast.

  288. And he invited many.

  289. Now when he did parties in Jesus' day, it took at least two invitations.

  290. One would go out hours or days or weeks or months ahead.

  291. It depended on how big the party was going to be and how many people were going to be

  292. invited.

  293. And the slave or the servant would take that invite to the person.

  294. And the person would open it up and they would look at it and immediately they would

  295. respond.

  296. Of course, I'm going to go.

  297. That's incredible.

  298. I'm going to be there.

  299. He throws great parties.

  300. It's an amazing place.

  301. Why would I not want to miss the event of the year?

  302. And so this invite goes out.

  303. The slaves or the helpers send it out to everybody and everybody says, yes, we'll do it.

  304. Now the real work happens.

  305. The master goes back home and he starts cooking and preparing and putting things together.

  306. And I don't know how long does it take.

  307. I don't know.

  308. It depends on how big the party is.

  309. How long is the party going to last?

  310. But it could take a long time.

  311. And as he's doing that, people are going, wow, what's this party going to be like?

  312. I don't know.

  313. I've heard it's great.

  314. I heard he throws incredible parties.

  315. I wanted to get into his party last year, but I couldn't get into it.

  316. But he throws incredible, incredible parties.

  317. How big is it going to be?

  318. I don't know, but it's going to be amazing.

  319. And as people started to talk and they speculated, there would be a wait.

  320. There would be a period of time when people waited and guessed and asked questions.

  321. Today, I forgot to embarrass her, is my daughter Rachel's 13th birthday.

  322. Okay, so we had 13 13-year-olds spend the night at my house.

  323. It was out of control.

  324. I mean, I just didn't realize how much girls ate.

  325. I thought that guys ate a lot, but 13-year-old girls, I think I need to take a love offering

  326. just to fill up our refrigerator because our house is like a pair of locusts or 13 locusts.

  327. Just went through and just, if it wasn't made out of wood or steel, they got eight, right?

  328. And so Rachel had this 13th birthday party and she has been talking about this 13th party

  329. for a long time.

  330. And my question for you is, how long do you think she's been talking about it?

  331. One day?

  332. A year.

  333. When I turn 13, this is what I want to do.

  334. When I turn 13, this is who I want to have over.

  335. Can I do this?

  336. Can I do that?

  337. Can I have this type of food?

  338. What kind of food should I have?

  339. I don't know if I can wait that long because these are the people I want to invite

  340. and this is what I want to do and this is what I want to see happen.

  341. Can I do that?

  342. And she just talked about it all the time.

  343. And it lasted 10 hours, literally.

  344. But she was so consumed with that party.

  345. I was in my room studying and I smelled cake.

  346. And I walked into the kitchen and when Christina wasn't looking, I took my finger

  347. and I dipped it and ate it.

  348. I'm sorry, honey.

  349. And it was good.

  350. And I asked her, how much longer until the cake?

  351. And she said, tomorrow.

  352. And I realized that you and I are terrible, terrible waiters.

  353. I mean, there's something in human nature that we do not like to wait at all.

  354. Elevators, lines, escalators, parking places.

  355. We just hate waiting.

  356. C.S. Lewis says that we are terrible waiters.

  357. He says we live in this shadow time.

  358. That we see pieces of heaven.

  359. We see glimpses of glory.

  360. And we want it.

  361. But we don't get it because we have to wait.

  362. And he says that we live in this time of now and not yet in this shadow lands.

  363. Jesus talks about it often in the scriptures.

  364. I mean, every time he talks about heaven, he does a miracle.

  365. And these miracles are called sign miracles.

  366. And what he means by sign miracles is it points us to heaven.

  367. It points us to God.

  368. It points us to the banquet.

  369. It shows us how things are going to be in the end times and what things are supposed to be like.

  370. But now we just see a shadow of it.

  371. I mean, we see it truly.

  372. But we don't see it fully.

  373. We see grace.

  374. We see mercy.

  375. We see love.

  376. It comes into our lives.

  377. We see people's lives totally satisfied.

  378. People's lives totally changed by the gospel.

  379. But it's like we live in this shadow because we still feel hungry.

  380. We still feel anxious.

  381. We still feel scared.

  382. We see sunrises, birth, love, community, redemption.

  383. Things that point us to heaven.

  384. Things that say, this is what heaven's going to be like.

  385. But we see just a glimpse of it.

  386. And we're left waiting.

  387. And we're left wondering.

  388. And we're left asking questions.

  389. We live in the now and not yet.

  390. Have you ever felt that tension?

  391. Have you ever felt God enter into the now and not yet and show you a little piece of heaven?

  392. I saw a piece of heaven three years ago in an ICU room.

  393. Good friends of ours, Wayne and Alice.

  394. Wayne was a doctor in Shanghai.

  395. And Wayne one day went to pick up his child.

  396. And as he picked him up and lifted him up, his back snapped, broken too.

  397. He fell to the floor in incredible pain.

  398. They took him to the hospital in Shanghai.

  399. They evac'd him here to the ICU at Adventist.

  400. We were visiting them and it was terrible.

  401. Cancer throughout his whole body.

  402. Spine eaten to pieces.

  403. There's no chance he's going to leave that ICU.

  404. Systems start to fail one after another.

  405. We visit and he goes, hey, can you do me a favor?

  406. I'm like, okay, what is it?

  407. He goes, I want you to renew our wedding vows.

  408. I want you to come back tomorrow.

  409. And I want you to renew our wedding vows.

  410. So it's me and Wayne and Alice, his wife, and Christina and the brother.

  411. And it's ICU room.

  412. And as we get there and as Christina, you know, you've never seen me cry, right?

  413. So I don't cry, but what am I thinking?

  414. Christina, she's a wimp because she's behind the camera.

  415. So you can't see her crying, but you can tell that she's crying.

  416. And we start to talk and Wayne looks at Alice and he goes, you know, I just need to apologize to you.

  417. Because I've been so selfish.

  418. I said I've been doing these things for the kids and for you, but it's really been about me.

  419. And I've neglected our family.

  420. I've neglected you.

  421. Glimpses of heaven coming in.

  422. Will you forgive me?

  423. Redemption.

  424. Forgiveness.

  425. Glimpses of heaven coming in.

  426. I mean, I feel like I'm sitting in this place and it's like holy place.

  427. Like God is here.

  428. In the now and not yet.

  429. Christina's just over there filming.

  430. Then he goes, I want to sing a song.

  431. And I'm like, oh, dude, you're killing me.

  432. Because I'm just thinking I'm biting my lip and I'm pinching myself and I'm trying to do everything I can not to cry.

  433. But I'm seeing heaven.

  434. I'm seeing redemption.

  435. I'm seeing forgiveness.

  436. I'm seeing renewal.

  437. I'm seeing things as they are, but I'm seeing just a glimpse of it.

  438. We all do.

  439. Sometimes we're just not looking for it.

  440. They do their vows.

  441. It's incredible.

  442. I'm weeping.

  443. He's weeping.

  444. The brother's weeping.

  445. Alice is weeping.

  446. Christina's hiding behind the camera.

  447. It looks like she's weeping because the film's going like this.

  448. The evac.

  449. Wayne to the States.

  450. Emergency.

  451. Send him to Cleveland Clinic because it's getting worse and everything's shutting down.

  452. And all of a sudden, he starts to heal.

  453. Glimpses.

  454. Of heaven.

  455. His body starts to reject the cancer.

  456. His back strengthens.

  457. He starts to walk.

  458. Glimpses.

  459. Of heaven.

  460. Now he's holding his kids and he's throwing them up.

  461. And he's a doctor again in Philadelphia.

  462. And he's doing all these things.

  463. And when that moment I look at it and I think about it, I say God was there.

  464. God was doing something.

  465. God was changing people's lives.

  466. We're living in the now and not yet.

  467. God was changing people's lives.

  468. The question is, can we wait?

  469. Because what we see is amazing, but it's nothing compared to heaven.

  470. The kingdom points us that it is now and not yet.

  471. Verse 17.

  472. And at the dinner hour, the slave said to those who had been invited,

  473. come, for everything is ready now.

  474. Come, for everything is ready.

  475. It's the second invite.

  476. The meal is ready.

  477. Everybody's supposed to go there.

  478. The second invite comes out.

  479. And we see in this passage that the invite goes out broadly.

  480. It goes out to everybody.

  481. We see it in verse 16 and verse 17 and verse 21 and verse 23.

  482. The invite goes out to everyone.

  483. Now remember, Jesus is only talking to guys who thought that they were going to

  484. only be the people in heaven.

  485. The Pharisees thought they were the only ones in heaven.

  486. And Jesus is talking to them about this invite that goes out.

  487. You ever walk down the street and you see somebody?

  488. Maybe somebody in your office.

  489. And you go, you know, there's no way they're going to come to Christ.

  490. They're just too mean.

  491. They're just too rich.

  492. There's no way they're going to ever hear about Christ.

  493. These are the verses, or these are the people in verses 21 and 23.

  494. Maybe we're walking down the street.

  495. We see a Muslim.

  496. He's dressed in his Muslim garb.

  497. And we want to share with him.

  498. But we go, no way, no way.

  499. Maybe we see a politician or a lawyer or a banker or someone who's driving a

  500. really cool, fast car, and they're really into themselves.

  501. And we say, there's no way he needs the gospel.

  502. There's no reason why I should share with him.

  503. There's nothing that he needs that the gospel has to offer.

  504. Maybe it's a girl holding the hand of her female lover, and you see them walking

  505. down, and there's something inside of you that says, I should share the gospel with her.

  506. But then you realize there's no way.

  507. She hates Christians.

  508. But the passage says that the minute we do this, the minute we take away the power of

  509. the invite, we de-gospel ourselves.

  510. I know it's a word we made up here, but we basically detach ourselves from the power of

  511. the gospel.

  512. The minute we look at somebody and we say, you know, there's no way that the gospel has

  513. anything they need, there's no way that we could talk to them.

  514. There's no way that the gospel can change them.

  515. The minute we do that, we forget the power of the invite, and we forget that the invite

  516. is for everybody, and we forget that the master has asked you and I to take the invite to

  517. everybody.

  518. I mean, we're called to share this message everywhere.

  519. You know, in Jesus' day, the guys he's talking to right now, they thought of you and me

  520. is firewood for hell.

  521. The only reason that God would create Gentiles was because hell was a fire and it needed firewood.

  522. But we see in the book of Acts that the invite goes out.

  523. And it changes everything.

  524. It's why you and I are here right now, because the message won out.

  525. Verse 17, at the dinner hour, he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited,

  526. come, for everything is ready now.

  527. The party, the kingdom, it requires nothing.

  528. Did you hear that?

  529. I mean, I know that is a strange concept for us, because we're doers and movers and type

  530. A people, but the passage says that the party requires nothing from us.

  531. It says that God has provided everything.

  532. It's only for us to be received.

  533. We can't do anything.

  534. He wants to give this thing to us.

  535. He offers us salvation because he's the only one who will take the credit.

  536. And I have a hard time with this, guys, because when I get invited to a party, what do I say?

  537. What do you say?

  538. If you get invited to a party, what do you say?

  539. After you say thank you, what's the next thing you say?

  540. Can I bring anything?

  541. Joe got it right down.

  542. Joe said, yeah, can I bring anything?

  543. That's the first thing you say.

  544. You say, hey, can I bring anything?

  545. Because it's in our nature.

  546. We want to bring stuff.

  547. We feel like we have to provide.

  548. And in the middle of a deep meal, you're eating with a friend, and you look at him and you go, hey, how's the wine?

  549. And the guy goes, that's real.

  550. Wine is really good.

  551. He goes, I brought it.

  552. But the passage says here that in God's kingdom, in God's party, that everything is given to us, that God pays for everything.

  553. And we bring nothing.

  554. I think this is foreign to us.

  555. I mean, it's why the leaders and the powerful and the educated and the movers and shakers in Jesus' time, they had a really hard time with Christianity.

  556. I mean, Christianity was very difficult for people who have it together.

  557. Because, and listen to my heart here, because I'm going to offend you because it offends me.

  558. Because Christianity is for wicked sinners.

  559. Christianity is for people who can bring nothing.

  560. Christianity is for people who can do nothing to save themselves.

  561. Christianity says that Jesus died to save you and me.

  562. That he gave his life to pay for our sins.

  563. That he died so that God could adopt you and me.

  564. I know there's been a lot of talk about adoption in the news, especially in Christian circles.

  565. But, you know, the Bible says very clearly that every one of us in here is adopted.

  566. That we're adopted by God's grace and God's love.

  567. Let's face it.

  568. Judaism and Buddhism and Islam and all the other religions, they're so much easier to swallow, aren't they?

  569. Because in those religions, it says something like this.

  570. All you need to do to get right with God is this.

  571. All you need to do to make God happy is this.

  572. All you need to do to get to paradise is this.

  573. Live a good life.

  574. Be kind.

  575. Be gentle.

  576. Don't hurt people.

  577. If you have to hurt somebody, don't hurt them too bad.

  578. And if you do all those things, God is going to be happy and you're going to be important and God's going to like you.

  579. But the passage says, come because everything's ready.

  580. Heaven can't be earned by us.

  581. God gives us this.

  582. I think sometimes we forget that, don't we?

  583. It'd be like you and me going and you come to me one day.

  584. I like spending other people's money because, you know.

  585. Anyway, you come to me and say, hey, I can go buy a new car.

  586. Can you help me?

  587. I say, oh, dude, that's great.

  588. I'd love to go help you go buy a new car.

  589. And we go to the car lot or to the store or whatever it is.

  590. And we're looking around.

  591. And I ask you, well, how much money you got to spend?

  592. He goes, I got $480 U.S.

  593. So $480 U.S. to buy a new car.

  594. He said, yeah, yeah, let's look around.

  595. And we look around the lot and I'm like, dude, we don't, there's nothing here for $480 U.S.

  596. And finally we get kind of discouraged and we're walking out.

  597. And the salesperson runs over to us.

  598. He said, hey, are you looking for a new car?

  599. He said, yeah, yeah, we kind of are.

  600. He goes, well, come back here.

  601. I want to show you something.

  602. And he takes you around the corner and there's the car of your dreams.

  603. I don't know what your dream car is.

  604. You know, I don't know if you're a Porsche person or a Ferrari person or a minivan person.

  605. You know, I like to have a Land Rover and drive it around occasionally.

  606. Whatever it is.

  607. And you look at that and the guy hands you the keys.

  608. And he says, it's yours.

  609. The manager saw you looking around the lot.

  610. And he wanted to give you this car.

  611. What would you think?

  612. Some of you are laughing.

  613. What's the catch?

  614. What's wrong with it?

  615. What do I have to do to get it?

  616. The guy said, you have to do nothing.

  617. You just have to take it.

  618. The manager wants to give it to you.

  619. And you look at him and he goes, no one would do that.

  620. That makes no sense whatsoever.

  621. And you're like, you're right.

  622. That's grace.

  623. It makes no sense whatsoever.

  624. No one would do that.

  625. But that's what God did.

  626. It'd be funny if you walked back to the manager and said, hey, I want to help you pay a little of the cost here.

  627. Here's $480.

  628. On the Ferrari.

  629. What did the manager do?

  630. He kind of looked at you like, what?

  631. What?

  632. Really?

  633. No.

  634. But that's what we do sometimes when it comes to salvation.

  635. No one would do that.

  636. It doesn't make any sense.

  637. But that's what God does.

  638. Verse 17.

  639. In a dinner, our sent and a slave said to those who have been invited, come, for everything is ready.

  640. And mark the word everything.

  641. It means everything.

  642. It means everything.

  643. Everything you need in heaven.

  644. Everything you desire.

  645. Everything you long for.

  646. Everything that you want.

  647. Everything will be there.

  648. There's nothing that's missing.

  649. The master provided for the party in incredible ways.

  650. Everything is there.

  651. Your salvation is there.

  652. Love is there.

  653. Abundant salvation.

  654. Abundant grace.

  655. Abundant hope.

  656. Abundant everything.

  657. Everything is there.

  658. Abundant.

  659. Is this going to be there?

  660. Everything you need.

  661. What about this?

  662. Everything you're going to need.

  663. Are dogs going to be there?

  664. Yes.

  665. But not cats.

  666. I'm teasing.

  667. I love cats too.

  668. Kind of.

  669. But everything.

  670. Everything is going to be there.

  671. And so we see that the kingdom is now but not yet.

  672. We see that the kingdom is given in abundance.

  673. And it's given freely.

  674. And it makes no sense whatsoever.

  675. But it's how God works.

  676. And finally in verses 21 through 23.

  677. We see the last thing we got to realize.

  678. That the invite to the banquet.

  679. The invite to the kingdom.

  680. The invite to heaven.

  681. Demands a response.

  682. The first invitation went out.

  683. The second invitation comes.

  684. And something unheard of happened in Jesus' day.

  685. The people said no.

  686. I mean people listening to Jesus tell the story.

  687. They would have laughed.

  688. When he said that.

  689. Because no one would say no.

  690. I mean it would be a massive loss of face to the host.

  691. I mean in some Arab cultures.

  692. It would be a case for war.

  693. You could go to war.

  694. You could kill the people for saying no.

  695. No one would say no.

  696. No.

  697. But in verse 18.

  698. One guy says this.

  699. I bought a piece of land.

  700. I need to go out and look at it.

  701. Please consider me excused.

  702. And when the people heard that.

  703. They would have started laughing.

  704. Because no one just buys land.

  705. It takes years in the Middle East.

  706. Most of the land is desert.

  707. And by the time you know the land.

  708. You know everything about it.

  709. Is it arable?

  710. Where the water hits?

  711. Where the water runs off?

  712. Where the sun hits?

  713. What season does it produce the best crops in?

  714. You would know everything about that piece of land.

  715. You would never just buy it.

  716. And then go check it out afterwards.

  717. And everybody would have been laughing.

  718. When they heard this excuse.

  719. And everybody would have thought.

  720. You know.

  721. That guy doesn't really care about the master.

  722. What he cares about is his possessions.

  723. That his stuff.

  724. Is more important.

  725. Than the master.

  726. In verse 19.

  727. The next excuse comes.

  728. I bought five yoke of oxen.

  729. I'm going to try.

  730. Test them out.

  731. Please consider me excused.

  732. Again.

  733. People would have been laughing.

  734. The minute they heard that.

  735. Because before you bought an animal.

  736. There was a trial area.

  737. You watched them work together.

  738. And you wanted to make sure.

  739. As a team.

  740. That they pulled well together.

  741. You wanted to make sure.

  742. That they pulled.

  743. A straight line.

  744. You wanted to make sure.

  745. That they tired well together.

  746. You wanted to make sure.

  747. They worked well together.

  748. And animals were expensive.

  749. This guy's a rich guy.

  750. He has ten ox.

  751. Most people only had one or two.

  752. When people heard this.

  753. They would have laughed.

  754. It would have been like me saying.

  755. To Christina.

  756. Okay.

  757. Next week is our.

  758. Anniversary.

  759. It's not.

  760. But on the day of our anniversary.

  761. I call her up and say.

  762. Honey.

  763. I really.

  764. I really want to be at the anniversary.

  765. But I bought five used cars.

  766. I need to go check.

  767. And see if they start.

  768. Would that be a good excuse?

  769. It would be a terrible excuse.

  770. I mean.

  771. Everyone listening would have thought.

  772. You know.

  773. He.

  774. He.

  775. He doesn't really.

  776. He's not really saying no.

  777. To the banquet.

  778. He's saying no.

  779. To the relationship.

  780. Again.

  781. He's saying.

  782. You know.

  783. My stuff is more important.

  784. Than my relationship with God.

  785. Verse 20.

  786. Which is probably the worst excuse of all.

  787. He says.

  788. I have married a wife.

  789. And for that reason.

  790. I cannot come.

  791. And in the Middle Eastern culture.

  792. No one would talk about women.

  793. In public.

  794. No man would ever talk about his wife like that.

  795. No one would ever say those words.

  796. In fact.

  797. In Hebrew.

  798. In an Aramaic.

  799. For people to hear this.

  800. What they would have heard.

  801. Is this.

  802. Hey.

  803. I got a woman.

  804. In the back of my house.

  805. I gotta go take care of her.

  806. I can't come to the party.

  807. You know.

  808. And everyone.

  809. Listening to this guy's excuse.

  810. Would have gone.

  811. Dude.

  812. You really caused serious loss of face there.

  813. You must really hate the master.

  814. Everyone would have heard.

  815. Well this guy.

  816. He just likes his pleasures.

  817. he likes his pleasures and his experiences

  818. more than he likes knowing God

  819. I've been thinking about this passage for a long time

  820. and I have to do that

  821. you guys just need to hear it and forget it after lunch

  822. but I've been trying to figure out what's going on here

  823. because every one of these guys

  824. was in the family of God

  825. I mean there's no outsiders here

  826. they're all family members

  827. they all would have been in the in club

  828. why didn't they want to go to the party

  829. because all of their excuses

  830. maybe they were feeble but maybe they were real

  831. but all of those excuses

  832. all those things would have been there

  833. after the party

  834. they could have taken care of the sheep later

  835. they could have taken care of the oxen later

  836. they could have taken care of their wife later

  837. or their mistress or their prostitute

  838. whoever that person was

  839. they could have taken care of all those things later

  840. why didn't they do it now?

  841. and it seems to me

  842. this is what's going on

  843. it seems to me that these people

  844. in the family of God

  845. they wanted the kingdom

  846. they wanted the party

  847. they wanted heaven

  848. as long as it could be on their terms

  849. as long as being in church

  850. or going to the party

  851. didn't interfere

  852. with their schedules

  853. or interfere with their time

  854. or if it didn't take too long

  855. or if it didn't make them feel uncomfortable

  856. then they were okay with it

  857. but the moment it started disrupting

  858. their schedule

  859. or their free time

  860. the moment it started disrupting

  861. how they did business

  862. or how they could make money

  863. the moment it started disrupting

  864. their families

  865. the time they spend with them

  866. the moment it started disrupting

  867. their ego

  868. and what people thought of them

  869. the moment the invite

  870. messed with those things

  871. they said I'm out of there

  872. I don't need it

  873. it's too difficult

  874. it's too hard

  875. you see in verse 24

  876. he says

  877. for I tell you

  878. none of these men

  879. who were invited

  880. shall taste of my dinner

  881. Jesus is coming back

  882. and he stopped telling the story

  883. and he's telling personally

  884. he's talking about himself

  885. and he's saying

  886. these guys think

  887. that they can come back later

  888. they think

  889. well after I've

  890. made a lot of money

  891. I'll come back to

  892. the family

  893. or maybe after I've

  894. done a lot of business

  895. or had a lot of women

  896. or men

  897. or I've graduated

  898. or there's a billion excuses

  899. you hear people use

  900. for not following God

  901. those people thought

  902. that the minute they did that

  903. the moment they did that

  904. the moment they retired

  905. then they could come back

  906. to walk with God

  907. and Jesus says no

  908. I mean Jesus is making

  909. a very pointed statement

  910. and he's talking about

  911. our choices

  912. and he's talking about

  913. coming to the banquet

  914. and what's interesting to me

  915. is that all of those people

  916. and all of those excuses

  917. that the banquet

  918. that walking with God

  919. the being in the family

  920. that would help them

  921. deal with all those things

  922. it would help them

  923. deal with their family

  924. it would help them

  925. deal with relationships

  926. it would help them

  927. be a better dad

  928. a mother

  929. a business person

  930. it would help them

  931. do all that

  932. but the people in the story

  933. couldn't see that

  934. all they saw was

  935. this is what I like

  936. this is what God's

  937. demanding of me

  938. I don't want to do it

  939. I think it's a struggle

  940. sometimes in a church

  941. right

  942. as a pastor

  943. you want to make

  944. the gospel seem sexy

  945. and cool

  946. you want it to seem

  947. like a Rolex

  948. you want a Rolex

  949. right

  950. everybody wants a Rolex

  951. yeah sure I want a Rolex

  952. give me a Rolex

  953. I want that

  954. but the gospel

  955. is really like a parachute

  956. because the airplane

  957. is going down

  958. and so we give this person

  959. a parachute

  960. and they wear it around

  961. but after a while

  962. the parachute is uncomfortable

  963. I mean I can't really

  964. do all my moves

  965. and win Kui Fung

  966. with the parachute

  967. on my back

  968. or I can't

  969. enter into that business deal

  970. that I know I shouldn't

  971. enter into

  972. because that parachute

  973. is on my back

  974. and it's preventing me

  975. from doing those things

  976. or I can't be the dad

  977. that I want to be

  978. because I really just

  979. want to be selfish

  980. and go hang out

  981. and do something

  982. by myself

  983. like work on my sermon

  984. but my kids really

  985. need time with me

  986. and they need me

  987. to be present

  988. with them

  989. and that parachute

  990. becomes uncomfortable

  991. sometimes

  992. Jesus is saying

  993. hey guys

  994. make a choice

  995. and realize

  996. that what you're choosing

  997. has eternal significance

  998. verse 21

  999. the message comes back

  1000. the slave reported

  1001. to his master

  1002. then the head

  1003. of the household

  1004. became angry

  1005. in Greek

  1006. very angry

  1007. he's furious

1008. and he said to that slave

  1009. he turns his anger

  1010. into grace

1011. he says to that slave

  1012. go out at once

  1013. into the streets

  1014. and the lanes

  1015. and the city

  1016. and bring them in

  1017. bring the poor

  1018. the cripple

  1019. the needy

  1020. bring them all in

  1021. see what's happening here

  1022. the master gets angry

  1023. it turns to grace

  1024. and he sends out

  1025. this urgent plea

  1026. for you and I

  1027. to the banquet

  1028. and he invites us

  1029. to come

  1030. the words there

  1031. are incredible

  1032. between the hedges

  1033. means homeless people

  1034. on the highways

  1035. means foreigners

  1036. who have no place

  1037. to live

1038. the power of the invite

  1039. goes out

  1040. to everyone

  1041. and it's so amazing

  1042. that people can't believe

  1043. that the master

  1044. would invite them

  1045. and he says

  1046. impel them

  1047. tell them

  1048. that it's true

  1049. and the master's good

1050. and he wants you here

  1051. and in this story

  1052. everybody who accepted

  1053. they could have also

  1054. made excuses

  1055. couldn't they have

  1056. they could have

  1057. right

  1058. well I'm poor

  1059. I don't have enough money

  1060. to buy clothes

1061. to come into the banquet

  1062. the master's not going

1063. to be pleased with me

  1064. well I'm lame

  1065. I can't get there

  1066. I'm blind

  1067. what good is it

  1068. for me to come

  1069. to the banquet

  1070. I'm hurt

  1071. I have a bad past

  1072. my reputation

  1073. is tarnished

  1074. the master

  1075. wouldn't want me

  1076. in the banquet

  1077. and it's interesting

  1078. to me

  1079. in verse 21

  1080. and verse 23

  1081. that the invites

  1082. go out

  1083. to everybody

  1084. and they're not

  1085. based

  1086. on anything

  1087. about the person

  1088. who's getting them

  1089. did you hear that

  1090. this month

  1091. or next month

  1092. every one of you

  1093. in here

  1094. is probably going

  1095. to get an invite

1096. to some kind of party

  1097. some kind of gathering

  1098. some type of event

  1099. and you're going

  1100. to get that invite

  1101. because

  1102. you're connected

  1103. you know people

  1104. you're powerful

  1105. you have a lot

  1106. of money

  1107. you have a lot

  1108. of influence

  1109. someone has

  1110. invited you

  1111. or you invited

  1112. somebody else

  1113. and they want

  1114. to pay you back

  1115. you're going

  1116. to get that invite

  1117. because of those

  1118. things

  1119. now I'm not

  1120. saying that

  1121. is bad

  1122. but what I am

  1123. saying is this

  1124. the invite

  1125. to heaven

  1126. the invite

  1127. to the kingdom

  1128. of God

  1129. the invite

  1130. to that last

  1131. banquet

  1132. depends on

  1133. none of those

  1134. things

  1135. God gives you

  1136. that invite

  1137. because he loves

  1138. you

  1139. not because

  1140. of what you

  1141. can do for

  1142. not because

  1143. of who you

  1144. are

  1145. what you

  1146. have

  1147. what you

  1148. haven't

  1149. done

  1150. what you

  1151. have

  1152. done

  1153. God

  1154. gives

  1155. it to

  1156. you

  1157. just because

  1158. he's good

  1159. and one of

  1160. the things

  1161. we have to

  1162. do as a

  1163. family

  1164. with ourselves

  1165. and speak

  1166. the gospel

  1167. to ourselves

  1168. over and

  1169. over and

  1170. to the people

  1171. around us

  1172. is we got

  1173. to keep

  1174. reminding

  1175. people

  1176. that the

  1177. invite

  1178. is real

  1179. and that

  1180. the host

  1181. is good

  1182. and true

  1183. because sometimes

  1184. we forget

  1185. that

  1186. sometimes

  1187. we forget

  1188. that

  1189. what does

  1190. your response

  1191. look like

  1192. to the

  1193. kingdom of

  1194. God

  1195. today

  1196. you have an

  1197. invite

  1198. you don't know

  1199. that but you

  1200. have an

  1201. invite

  1202. what are you

  1203. doing with the

  1204. master's invitation

  1205. do you really

  1206. desire to be at

  1207. the banquet

  1208. do you really

  1209. desire to be in

  1210. the kingdom

  1211. or is there

  1212. something

  1213. else that's

  1214. more important

  1215. to you

  1216. is there

  1217. someplace else

  1218. you would

  1219. rather be

  1220. is there

  1221. something else

  1222. you need

  1223. more than

  1224. you need

  1225. God

  1226. my prayer

  1227. for us

  1228. as a church

  1229. as individuals

  1230. is that we

  1231. would understand

  1232. that God's

  1233. offer is

  1234. true

  1235. and that

  1236. it's

  1237. amazing

  1238. and the

  1239. only question

  1240. is are we

  1241. going to

  1242. accept that

  1243. offer

  1244. accept it

  1245. by grace

  1246. allow it

  1247. to change

  1248. us

  1249. share that

  1250. offer with

  1251. those around

  1252. us

  1253. the kingdom

  1254. is now

  1255. but not

  1256. yet

  1257. the invite

  1258. for the

  1259. kingdom

  1260. goes out

  1261. broadly

  1262. and freely

  1263. and it

  1264. includes

  1265. everything

  1266. and the

  1267. invite for the

  1268. kingdom

  1269. demands a

  1270. response

  1271. from us

  1272. how are we

  1273. going to

  1274. respond

  1275. father I

  1276. thank you for

  1277. this day

  1278. I thank you for

  1279. your goodness

  1280. in our life

  1281. and for your

  1282. mercy

  1283. and for this

  1284. passage that

  1285. speaks to us

  1286. in ways

  1287. I pray we'll

  1288. never stop as

  1289. we walk around

  1290. here

  1291. father I think

  1292. of my

  1293. friends as we

  1294. talk about the

  1295. gospel and how

  1296. it guts us

  1297. and it

  1298. changes us

  1299. and it

  1300. points to

  1301. our heart

  1302. and we

  1303. realize after

  1304. 20 years

  1305. that you

  1306. really don't

  1307. just want us

  1308. to be obedient

  1309. and to do

  1310. the right

  1311. things but

  1312. you want

  1313. you want

  1314. us

  1315. you want

  1316. our hearts

  1317. and our

  1318. motives

  1319. and Lord we

  1320. realize that

  1321. that's

  1322. that's

  1323. that's so

  1324. hard sometimes

  1325. and we

  1326. fail so

  1327. often on

  1328. this journey

  1329. and we're

  1330. so thankful

  1331. that it is a

  1332. journey that

  1333. we take step

  1334. by step

  1335. by step

  1336. and that

  1337. you're there

  1338. cheering us

  1339. on

  1340. and so

  1341. Lord we just

  1342. come to you

  1343. now

  1344. help us to

  1345. see the now

  1346. but not yet

  1347. help us to

  1348. realize that

  1349. it's full

  1350. and abundant

  1351. and free

  1352. and that we

  1353. have a

  1354. responsibility to

  1355. share it with

  1356. those around

  1357. us and

  1358. help us

  1359. not to

  1360. fool

  1361. ourselves

  1362. Lord we

  1363. realize that

  1364. everyone that

  1365. Jesus was

  1366. talking to

  1367. would have

  1368. been in the

  1369. church in

  1370. Jesus day

  1371. and this

  1372. passage says

  1373. that none

  1374. of them

  1375. none of

  1376. them in

  1377. that church

  1378. would have

  1379. been in

  1380. your kingdom

  1381. because they

  1382. saw the

  1383. invitation

  1384. wrong

  1385. Lord we

  1386. just

  1387. we fall

  1388. on your

  1389. mercy

  1390. and your

  1391. grace

  1392. and we

  1393. ask you

  1394. to help

  1395. us see

  1396. it

  1397. correctly

  1398. help us

  1399. to see

  1400. your son

  1401. who hands

  1402. us the

  1403. invite

  1404. help us

  1405. to realize

  1406. that it

  1407. was all

  1408. because of

  1409. you

  1410. help us

  1411. just to

  1412. have

  1413. a moment

  1414. of seeing

  1415. heaven

  1416. right

  1417. now

  1418. as we

  1419. come

  1420. to

  1421. you

  1422. father

  1423. we

  1424. love

  1425. you

  1426. and we

  1427. need

  1428. you

  1429. desperately

  1430. we

  1431. pray all

  1432. these

  1433. things

  1434. your

  1435. son

  1436. Jesus

  1437. holy

  1438. name

  1439. amen

  1440. amen

  1441. can you

  1442. be

  1443. pleased

  1444. we

  1445. see

  1446. just

  1447. for

  1448. one

  1449. second

  1450. okay

  1451. so

  1452. we

  1453. are

  1454. about

  1455. to

  1456. go

  1457. to

  1458. a

  1459. family

  1460. wide

  1461. meal

  1462. so

  1463. that

  1464. doors

  1465. are

  1466. locked

  1467. over there

  1468. so you

  1469. can't

  1470. get

  1471. out

  1472. that

  1473. door

  1474. you

  1475. have

  1476. to

  1477. go

  1478. through

  1479. this

  1480. door

  1481. so you're

  1482. at least

  1483. going to

  1484. see

  1485. the

  1486. food

  1487. and smell

  1488. the

  1489. food

  1490. and

  1491. so

  1492. we

  1493. do

  1494. this

  1495. about

  1496. once

  1497. every

  1498. month

  1499. or so

  1500. just

  1501. people

  1502. get

  1503. no

  1504. chance

  1505. to

  1506. each

  1507. other

  1508. maybe

  1509. have

  1510. the

  1511. kids

  1512. in

  1513. the

  1514. corners

  1515. because

  1516. I

  1517. think

  1518. we're

  1519. going

  1520. to

  1521. be

  1522. packed

  1523. out

  1524. with

  1525. capacity

  1526. over

  1527. there

  1528. also

  1529. when

  1530. you

  1531. came

  1532. in

  1533. today

  1534. and

  1535. before

  1536. you

  1537. do

  1538. that

  1539. if

  1540. you

  1541. have

  1542. a

  1543. youth

  1544. high

  1545. school

  1546. or

  1547. junior

  1548. high

  1549. kid

  1550. Eric

  1551. wants

  1552. to

  1553. meet

  1554. with

  1555. all

  1556. the

  1557. parents

  1558. in

  1559. the

  1560. theater

  1561. room

  1562. he

  1563. sent

  1564. out

  1565. an

  1566. announcement

  1567. but

  1568. if

  1569. you

  1570. didn't

  1571. get

  1572. that

  1573. announcement

  1574. in

  1575. the

  1576. theater

  1577. room

  1578. for

  1579. about

  1580. 10

  1581. minutes

  1582. and

  1583. he

  1584. wants

  1585. to

  1586. talk

  1587. to

  1588. you

  1589. about

  1590. what's

  1591. going

  1592. to

  1593. be

  1594. going

  1595. on

  1596. with

  1597. the

  1598. youth

  1599. in

  1600. high

  1601. school

  1602. and

  1603. junior

  1604. high

  1605. kids

  1606. also

  1607. when

  1608. you

  1609. came

  1610. in

  1611. there

  1612. was

  1613. this

  1614. little

  1615. thing

  1616. called

  1617. a

  1618. life

  1619. map

  1620. on

  1621. your

  1622. chair

  1623. you

  1624. hear

  1625. us

  1626. talk

  1627. about

  1628. the

  1629. journey

  1630. a lot

  1631. and

  1632. our

  1633. journey

  1634. that

  1635. we're

  1636. on

  1637. with

  1638. Christ

  1639. and

  1640. this

  1641. is

  1642. just

  1643. a

  1644. tool

  1645. it's

  1646. a tool

  1647. that I've

  1648. used

  1649. for about

  1650. 18

  1651. years

  1652. and it

  1653. helps us

  1654. think

  1655. through

  1656. our

  1657. journey

  1658. and

  1659. where

  1660. God

  1661. has

  1662. us

  1663. and

  1664. the

  1665. high

  1666. points

  1667. and

  1668. the

  1669. low

  1670. points

  1671. and

  1672. so

  1673. we

  1674. want

  1675. to

  1676. give

  1677. that

  1678. to

  1679. you

  1680. just

  1681. as

  1682. a

  1683. gift

  1684. and

  1685. as

  1686. you

  1687. think

  1688. about

  1689. going

  1690. on

  1691. the

  1692. journey

  1693. with

  1694. the

  1695. church

  1696. thinking

  1697. through

  1698. what

  1699. your

  1700. journey

  1701. is

  1702. and

  1703. what

  1704. that

  1705. looks

  1706. like

  1707. also

  1708. on

  1709. Wednesdays

  1710. starting

  1711. this

  1712. Wednesday

  1713. at

  1714. the

  1715. community

  1716. center

  1717. the

  1718. women

  1719. of

  1720. Watermark

  1721. have

  1722. a

  1723. book

  1724. study

  1725. going

  1726. on

  1727. it

  1728. starts

  1729. this

  1730. Wednesday

  1731. at

  1732. 930

  1733. to

  1734. 1130

  1735. it's

  1736. called

  1737. Grace

  1738. Based

  1739. Parenting

  1740. it's

  1741. an

  1742. excellent

  1743. study

  1744. there's

  1745. probably

  1746. 30

  1747. women

  1748. already

  1749. in

  1750. this

  1751. group

  1752. so

  1753. if

  1754. you're

  1755. not

  1756. in

  1757. this

  1758. group

  1759. please

  1760. join

  1761. them

  1762. it's

  1763. from

  1764. children

  1765. from

  1766. 0

  1767. to

  1768. 18

  1769. and

  1770. it's

  1771. an

  1772. excellent

  1773. book

  1774. and a

  1775. great

  1776. chance

  1777. for you

  1778. to

  1779. meet

  1780. and

  1781. develop

  1782. community

  1783. also

  1784. one

  1785. of

  1786. the

  1787. ways

  1788. that

  1789. we

  1790. communicate

  1791. on

  1792. the

  1793. church

  1794. we

  1795. have

  1796. two

  1797. modes

  1798. of

  1799. communication

  1800. so

  1801. if

  1802. you're

  1803. here

  1804. for

  1805. the

  1806. first

  1807. time

  1808. or

  1809. if

  1810. you've

  1811. been

  1812. here

  1813. sleeping

  1814. for

  1815. a

  1816. year

  1817. we

  1818. use

  1819. our

  1820. website

  1821. and

  1822. so

  1823. we

  1824. have

  1825. a

  1826. new

  1827. website

  1828. that

  1829. just

  1830. got

  1831. put

  1832. back

  1833. up

  1834. put

  1835. up

  1836. so

  1837. revamped

  1838. and

  1839. so

  1840. if

  1841. you

  1842. go

  1843. to

  1844. watermark

  1845. church

  1846. dot

  1847. hk

  1848. this

  1849. website

  1850. will

  1851. have

  1852. everything

  1853. you

  1854. need

  1855. to

  1856. know

  1857. about

  1858. events

  1859. and

  1860. places

  1861. and

  1862. gatherings

  1863. and

  1864. sermons

  1865. and

  1866. how

  1867. to

  1868. get

  1869. go

  1870. there

  1871. and

  1872. we're

  1873. trying

  1874. to

  1875. make

  1876. it

  1877. as

  1878. simple

  1879. as

  1880. possible

  1881. for

  1882. us

  1883. to

  1884. keep

  1885. up

  1886. but

  1887. as

  1888. informative

  1889. as

  1890. possible

  1891. for

  1892. you

  1893. guys

  1894. as

  1895. the

  1896. church

  1897. and

  1898. I

  1899. think

  1900. what

  1901. I

  1902. want

  1903. to

  1904. do

  1905. here

  1906. I

  1907. actually

  1908. want

  1909. to

  1910. bring

  1911. up

  1912. all

  1913. the

  1914. leaders

  1915. but

  1916. we've

  1917. been

  1918. introducing

  1919. to

  1920. you

  1921. some

  1922. community

  1923. group

  1924. leaders

  1925. so

  1926. you

  1927. can

  1928. know

  1929. what

  1930. groups

  1931. are

  1932. happening

  1933. and

  1934. where

  1935. the

  1936. groups

  1937. are

  1938. and

  1939. sharing

  1940. a

  1941. little

  1942. bit

  1943. about

  1944. themselves

  1945. so

  1946. I

  1947. want

  1948. to

  1949. ask

  1950. Bill

  1951. and

  1952. Shannon

  1953. to

  1954. come

  1955. up

  1956. and

  1957. Jeremiah

  1958. to

  1959. come

  1960. up

  1961. tell

  1962. a

  1963. little

  1964. bit

  1965. about

  1966. your

  1967. community

  1968. group

  1969. and

  1970. is

  1971. Graham

  1972. here

  1973. Graham

  1974. said

  1975. he

  1976. was

  1977. going

  1978. to

  1979. be

  1980. here

  1981. so

  1982. if

  1983. he's

  1984. here

  1985. okay

  1986. so

  1987. these

  1988. are

  1989. all

  1990. three

  1991. different

  1992. community

  1993. groups

  1994. that

  1995. meet

  1996. in

  1997. different

  1998. places

  1999. a lot

  2000. of

  2001. times

  2002. you're

  2003. like

  2004. okay

  2005. what

  2006. is

  2007. a

  2008. community

  2009. group

  2010. and

  2011. we

  2012. say

  2013. that's

  2014. the hub

  2015. of

  2016. the

  2017. church

  2018. and

  2019. how

  2020. we

  2021. gather

  2022. and

  2023. you

  2024. know

  2025. whether

  2026. you

  2027. know

  2028. or

  2029. not

  2030. Sunday

  2031. for

  2032. us

  2033. is

  2034. like

  2035. 20%

  2036. of

  2037. the

  2038. church

  2039. we

  2040. feel

  2041. like

  2042. where

  2043. we

  2044. want

  2045. people

  2046. to

  2047. really

  2048. get

  2049. plugged

  2050. in

  2051. and

  2052. to

  2053. grow

  2054. and

  2055. learn

  2056. happens

  2057. the

  2058. rest

  2059. of

  2060. the

  2061. week

  2062. and

  2063. so

  2064. we

  2065. love

  2066. Sunday

  2067. and

  2068. it's

  2069. a

  2070. fun

  2071. time

  2072. but

  2073. it's

  2074. not

  2075. the

  2076. heart

  2077. of

  2078. the

  2079. church

  2080. the

  2081. heart

  2082. of

  2083. the

  2084. church

  2085. is

  2086. the

  2087. community

  2088. groups

  2089. and

  2090. what

  2091. God

  2092. is

  2093. doing

  2094. as

  2095. we

  2096. reach

  2097. out

  2098. to

  2099. this

  2100. community

  2101. and

  2102. so

  2103. I

  2104. want

  2105. Jeremiah

  2106. will you

  2107. share

  2108. a little bit

2109. about where your group is

  2110. and when you meet

  2111. and go ahead

  2112. hey how's it going

  2113. so yeah our group

2114. is branching out from Mike and Katie's group

2115. kind of got super huge and there was no more room in their house

2116. so we will be meeting also in Sying Poon every Thursday

  2117. at 730

  2118. and it's mostly

2119. mostly young professionals and university students

  2120. but uh

  2121. so yeah

  2122. Sying Poon Thursday 730

2123. okay and Bill and Shannon

  2124. hey Watermark

  2125. um

  2126. I'm Shannon

  2127. this is Bill

2128. we meet at our place here in Cyberport

2129. we're literally right next door in Bel Air

  2130. phase two

2131. and so they're always on time to church

  2132. they never come late

  2133. because they're just like

  2134. never

  2135. never

2136. did my nose just grow

  2137. um

2138. we meet up on Mondays at 730

  2139. we share a meal at 730

2140. and then we begin group study at 8

  2141. um

2142. our group is open to everyone

  2143. we have um

  2144. I'd say mid-20s to late

2145. mid to late 50s in our group

  2146. we have single male

  2147. single female

  2148. we have um

  2149. moms, dads, families

  2150. without kids

  2151. so

  2152. come on

  2153. join

  2154. everyone's welcome

  2155. every Monday

  2156. every Monday

  2157. 730

  2158. um

  2159. four meal

  2160. and then 8 o'clock

  2161. for the study

  2162. Graham

2163. I don't know if you guys know

  2164. Joshua Hammond

2165. but he once described our community group as

  2166. special

  2167. okay

  2168. and uh

  2169. the reason we're special

2170. is because we're kind of homeless

  2171. right

2172. we're nicknamed the uncharted group

2173. we don't belong to a specific area

  2174. but we

2175. we're even closer than Bill and Shannon

  2176. we meet right here

  2177. so we literally do

2178. we meet in the Rapids room

  2179. on Sunday afternoons

  2180. right after church

2181. so you don't have to go very far

  2182. to get to us

  2183. uh

2184. the most of the people in our group

  2185. uh

  2186. we welcome everyone

  2187. but

  2188. we find it's

  2189. it's people with kids

  2190. little kids

2191. who find it difficult to get out

  2192. during the week

  2193. late at night

  2194. with kids

2195. it's a great time for them to be involved

  2196. in community groups

  2197. uh

  2198. we've got single boys

  2199. girls

  2200. everything

  2201. dogs, cats

  2202. they all

  2203. they all come along

  2204. so yeah

2205. but we meet at the moment

  2206. we're meeting every second

  2207. Sunday

  2208. uh

  2209. we gather at one

  2210. we eat together

  2211. which is really important

2212. and then we start at 1.30

  2213. and we're done by

  2214. three

2215. so that's every second Sunday

  2216. and we're hoping

2217. to bump that up this year

2218. to about three times a month

  2219. yeah

  2220. that's us

  2221. that's great

  2222. so you've seen them

2223. there are other community groups

2224. as you walk out on the table

  2225. there'll be

  2226. information about community groups

  2227. and sign ups

  2228. and so please

  2229. feel free

2230. to ask questions from them

2231. if you're in their area

  2232. or uh

  2233. Charles

  2234. will you stand up

  2235. and Franklin stand up

  2236. so Charles and Franklin

  2237. keep me straight

  2238. and they're

2239. so the three of us

2240. are the elders of the church

  2241. uh

2242. God brought them to us

  2243. after a year and a half

  2244. of planning the church

  2245. and so

2246. if you have any questions

  2247. about the church

2248. the rhythm of the church

2249. the life of the church

2250. why we don't pass around offering

2251. and ask you to do it

  2252. at the kiosk

  2253. or anything like that

  2254. please grab us

  2255. uh

  2256. in an appropriate place

  2257. out here

2258. so let us get our food first

  2259. that didn't

  2260. that didn't sound

  2261. the way I meant

2262. for it to the south

  2263. uh

  2264. yeah

  2265. well

  2266. delete that

  2267. from the tape

  2268. Dylan

  2269. okay

  2270. uh

  2271. anyway

  2272. so just

  2273. uh

2274. get a hold of us

  2275. and talk to us

  2276. and we want to

  2277. we want to ask

  2278. answer any questions

  2279. you have

  2280. and with that

  2281. would you guys

  2282. please stand

2283. and I just want to pray

2284. for us as a family

  2285. and for this meal

  2286. you know

  2287. what I

  2288. I always am fearful

  2289. of doing sermons

  2290. uh

2291. just the weight of it

  2292. sometimes

  2293. and wondering

  2294. what people are going

  2295. to walk away with

  2296. it keeps me up

  2297. at nights

  2298. my

  2299. my prayer

  2300. my hope is

  2301. that you walked away

  2302. from today

  2303. you saw how amazing

  2304. God is

  2305. you saw how patient

  2306. he is with us

  2307. how kind

  2308. he is with us

  2309. how his grace

  2310. is abundant

  2311. and it's free

2312. and you can trust him

  2313. that's what I hope

  2314. you heard

  2315. father I thank you

  2316. for my brothers

  2317. and sisters here

2318. thank you for this food

  2319. we're about to eat

  2320. for this family

  2321. for this

  2322. this place you've

  2323. put us in

  2324. these facilities

  2325. all these things

  2326. are from you

  2327. and we pray that

  2328. we would use them

  2329. well to honor you

2330. we pray for this food

  2331. that it would be

  2332. great time

  2333. communication

2334. and Lord we love you

  2335. we pray these things

2336. in your son Jesus name

  2337. amen

  2338. God bless you

  2339. and we'll see you

  2340. at the tables
