  1. I was interviewed by The Citizen this week.

  2. A 50-minute long interview from a woman by the name of Jennifer.

  3. I think she normally publishes under the name Jennifer Jackson,

  4. but I think that byline is going to be changed soon to Jennifer Green

  5. because she's been recently married.

  6. And I guess there was a bit of telephone tag,

  7. this woman wanting to talk to me to set up an interview,

  8. so I knew she wanted to talk to me and interview me.

  9. My wife and I talked about it.

  10. I was very uneasy about being interviewed by a reporter of The Citizen.

  11. The press aren't often friends of people like myself

  12. and many of you who hold our views on some issues of the day.

  13. But after praying about it and discussing it with my wife,

  14. I decided I'd do the interview.

  15. So on Thursday morning, she said she'd like to talk to me for 20 to 30 minutes,

  16. and she interviewed me for 50 minutes.

  17. And she talked to me about our network membership,

  18. about us withholding apportionment,

  19. about a lesbian priest,

  20. a woman married to another woman who's a priest in the Diocese of Ottawa,

  21. and my role in an open letter about that,

  22. about essentials.

  23. We covered the whole gamut.

  24. The article didn't come out on Saturday, yesterday.

  25. That means it's, I think, coming out this coming Saturday or Sunday.

  26. You can pray for her as she writes.

  27. I ended up thinking that she was quite fair-minded,

  28. and so just pray that as she thinks this week

  29. about how she's going to write that article,

  30. that she will be fair-minded about how she portrays us.

  31. One of the reasons, as you know, I'd be nervous about interviews,

  32. because once you're interviewed,

  33. I mean, you're just complete,

  34. we're completely helpless.

  35. I'm helpless.

  36. You know, she can make me look really bad

  37. or make me look good or somewhere in between.

  38. But, you know, I can't replay for you the entire interview,

  39. not that I could remember it,

  40. but early on in the interview, I said to her,

  41. I said, you know, if there was a verse

  42. which really described my heart,

  43. where my heart is,

  44. and where I'd like my heart to grow more and more,

  45. and I think it describes the heart of this congregation,

  46. it is these words of Jesus,

  47. Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden,

  48. and I will give you rest.

  49. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,

  50. for I am gentle and lowly of heart,

  51. and you will find rest for your souls,

  52. for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

  53. And I said, that's my heart,

  54. and that's the heart of this congregation.

  55. And before I could start to explain it,

  56. she said to me, she said,

  57. that's beautiful.

  58. Where is it from?

  59. And so I told you,

  60. I told her Matthew 11, 28 to 30,

  61. it's the words of Jesus,

  62. and I said, you know,

  63. we're a broken people.

  64. We at St. Albans don't view ourselves as being the pure,

  65. the holy, the mighty, the strong,

  66. the good, the blessed,

  67. or any of these types of things.

  68. We are ones who are born broken,

  69. and we need a savior,

  70. and we need to come to Jesus,

  71. and we need to take his yoke upon us.

  72. That's what we need.

  73. That's what everybody needs.

  74. And I said to her,

  75. I said, you know,

  76. it's far more important to me

  77. that people come to Jesus,

  78. and start to learn to take his yoke upon them

  79. than they deal even with their sexuality.

  80. It's always more important to come first to Jesus.

  81. That's my heart.

  82. And then as we were talking as well later on,

  83. I said, you know,

  84. at the heart of this dispute

  85. and this crisis in the church,

  86. it can be talked about as a crisis of authority,

  87. but really it's ultimately about

  88. whether the Bible is the Bible,

  89. whether the Bible has authority in our lives.

  90. You see, it's really about

  91. two completely and utterly different views

  92. as to what the Christian faith is.

  93. Is the Christian faith the story

  94. and the invitation of how God

  95. has broken from outside the created order

  96. and broken into our created order,

  97. reaching down to us human beings

  98. to bring salvation to us,

  99. and we, in a sense,

  100. are to open our arms and to receive it?

  101. Or is the Christian faith

  102. about human beings' attempts

  103. to image God,

  104. frame God,

  105. reach out to God,

  106. create God?

  107. Is it all about ultimately

  108. us human beings reaching up to God,

  109. or is it all about God

  110. reaching down to us?

  111. And I said,

  112. they're completely and utterly different faiths,

  113. and I believe,

  114. and the people at St. Albans believe,

  115. that Christianity is about God

  116. reaching down to us

  117. and us receiving that

  118. which only God can do.

  119. This is not just some clever idea of mine.

  120. This is, in fact,

  121. what Jesus teaches us

  122. in the Gospel today.

  123. And so if you turn in your Bibles

  124. to page 919,

  125. page 919,

  126. Luke,

  127. sorry, Luke,

  128. if you turn to Luke,

  129. it'll be wrong.

  130. John chapter 1,

    John 1:43–51

  131. verses 43 to 51.

  132. I know some people bring their own Bibles,

  133. don't use the Pew Bibles,

  134. and that's good.

  135. John 1,

  136. 43 to 51.

  137. And the story goes,

  138. you know,

  139. continues like this.

  140. The following day,

  141. Jesus wanted to go to Galilee,

  142. and he found Philip

  143. and said to him,

  144. follow me.

  145. Now Philip was from Bethsaida,

  146. the city of Andrew and Peter.

  147. Philip found Nathanael

  148. and said to him,

  149. we have found him

  150. of whom Moses in the law

  151. and also the prophets wrote,

  152. Jesus of Nazareth,

  153. the son of Joseph.

  154. I just want to pause here.

  155. There's a couple of interesting things here,

  156. just about verse 45.

  157. Years and years ago,

  158. when I was in university,

  159. decades and decades ago

  160. when I was in university,

  161. I tried to read a Russian novel

  162. by myself for the first time.

  163. I tried to read Dostoevsky's

  164. Crime and Punishment.

  165. And some of you may have heard this before.

  166. I was about a third

  167. to a halfway through the book.

  168. I was really struggling with this book.

  169. I was reading it

  170. because it's supposed to be

  171. great literature.

  172. And I wanted to try to read

  173. great literature

  174. and learn and become wise

  175. and learn it

  176. and all of that stuff.

  177. And I'm slogging through this

  178. and slogging through this

  179. and slogging through this.

  180. And I can't remember

  181. if it was somebody who told me

  182. or if I finally figured it out

  183. for myself.

  184. But Russians

  185. have all sorts of different names.

  186. And so I had been thinking

  187. there were about

  188. 12 characters in this book

  189. when there were only four.

  190. Because they'd keep naming

  191. the same person

  192. and sometimes it would be

  193. their nickname

  194. and sometimes it would be

  195. the full name

  196. and sometimes it would be

  197. this other name.

  198. And I kept thinking

  199. there were all these

  200. different characters

  201. trying to wonder

  202. how on earth these guys

  203. seem to be coming in and out.

  204. And then I finally figured that out.

  205. And so I went back to the book

  206. and read the book

  207. from the beginning,

  208. now very carefully following

  209. the names of the characters

  210. and keeping the same guy

  211. straight all the way through.

  212. Jewish people

  213. had lots of different names,

  214. especially Galileans

  215. at the time of Jesus.

  216. They'd have sort of like

  217. more Greek sounding names

  218. and Jewish names

  219. and a variety of names.

  220. So Nathaniel is Bartholomew

  221. in case you're wondering.

  222. In case you're looking

  223. at some of the other

  224. lists of the disciples

  225. and you say,

  226. I don't see Nathaniel

  227. there anywhere.

  228. Nathaniel is probably Bartholomew.

  229. And so Philip,

  230. who's from Bethsaida,

  231. he comes and finds Nathaniel.

  232. And one of the things

  233. that Philip does here

  234. is really cool.

  235. It's a real encouragement for us.

  236. He says,

  237. we have found him

  238. of whom Moses and the law

  239. and also the prophets wrote,

  240. Jesus of Nazareth,

  241. the son of Joseph.

  242. Now the thing which is

  243. so neat about this

  244. is that Philip gets

  245. half of it wrong.

  246. Okay, this is a real

  247. encouragement to you and me.

  248. Like when it comes time

  249. to witness about Jesus,

  250. don't ever say to yourself,

  251. I have to wait

  252. until I've figured out

  253. everything perfectly

  254. before I can witness

  255. about Jesus.

  256. Philip gets half of it wrong.

  257. Jesus is not from Nazareth.

  258. He was from Bethlehem

  259. and he's not the son of Joseph.

  260. He was, I mean,

  261. in a sense,

  262. the stepson of Joseph.

  263. He got two of the things wrong,

  264. but he was just full of enthusiasm

  265. to tell Nathaniel,

  266. his buddy Nathaniel,

  267. about Jesus.

  268. And so he does it.

  269. And it's really neat

  270. because, see,

  271. God always honors

  272. our hearty desire

  273. to share Jesus.

  274. God doesn't sort of

  275. look down at heaven

  276. and says,

  277. oh, dang it,

  278. there's George

  279. attempting it again.

  280. You know,

  281. when's he going to

  282. finally smarten up?

  283. Like, when's he going to

  284. start reading better books?

  285. You know,

  286. you know,

  287. God takes

  288. our faltering,

  289. stumbling attempts

  290. to witness to Jesus

  291. and he just throws a party

  292. and the angels

  293. are singing hallelujah

  294. and God says,

  295. you know,

  296. I can handle

  297. his foolishness.

  298. You know,

  299. I can work through this.

  300. And so Philip

  301. is filled with this.

  302. He gives sort of

  303. two of the things,

  304. he says some of the things wrong

  305. and Nathaniel says to him,

  306. and this is the other thing,

  307. you know,

  308. verse 46,

  309. and Nathaniel said to him,

  310. can anything good

  311. come out of Nazareth?

  312. Philip said to him,

  313. come and see.

  314. Now,

  315. there's sort of two

  316. interesting things about this.

  317. You know,

  318. we're from Ottawa

  319. and at least we live in Ottawa

  320. and maybe we're not from Ottawa

  321. but we live in Ottawa

  322. and it's easy for urban people

  323. to look down the nose

  324. at rural people

  325. and, you know,

  326. but rural people

  327. look down their noses

  328. sometimes at other rural people

  329. because, like,

  330. from an Ottawa perspective,

  331. rural Canada

  332. is sort of anything

  333. in Ontario

  334. other than southern Ontario

  335. and Ottawa.

  336. Like,

  337. the rest of it's sort of,

  338. like,

  339. rural or small town,

  340. you know?

  341. But,

  342. you know,

  343. with people there,

  344. they can look down

  345. their noses at things

  346. just like we think

  347. it's something special

  348. to be from Ottawa

  349. but Toronto knows

  350. they're the centre

  351. of the universe

  352. and if you're from New York

  353. they know that they're

  354. really the centre

  355. of the universe

  356. and Paris knows

  357. that they're really

  358. the centre of the universe

  359. and so you can always

  360. find people

  361. who look down their noses

  362. at other people.

  363. When I was in my rural parish

  364. in Eganville,

  365. I did the funeral

  366. of this woman

  367. and lived in Killaloo.

  368. Now,

  369. Killaloo

  370. has a population

  371. of 600 people

  372. and people

  373. were telling me

  374. about this woman

  375. and they said

  376. that one of the things

  377. that characterised

  378. her life for many years

  379. is that she looked

  380. down her nose

  381. at people

  382. from Tremor.

  383. Now,

  384. Tremor,

  385. there's nothing

  386. in Tremor.

  387. It's a bend

  388. and a road

  389. with an old school

  390. and a church.

  391. That's Tremor

  392. and people

  393. from Tremor,

  394. often now

  395. people who go

  396. to that church

  397. are from expensive

  398. cottages

  399. on Round Lake

  400. but years and years

  401. ago,

  402. I guess,

  403. this woman

  404. thought that people,

  405. she lived in a town

  406. of 600 people

  407. and she thought,

  408. well,

  409. the people

  410. who live

  411. and who go

  412. to Tremor,

  413. they're hillbillies

  414. but I live

  415. in the village

  416. of Killaloo.

  417. So,

  418. here's Nathaniel

  419. from Bethsaida

  420. like a little hole

  421. in the wall

  422. saying,

  423. can anything good

  424. come from Nazareth?

  425. You know,

  426. like they have

  427. the wrong accent,

  428. they're not very

  429. well educated

  430. and,

  431. you know,

  432. the fact of the matter

  433. is that often

  434. in this world

  435. we have to deal

  436. with prejudice

  437. and one of the prejudices

  438. that Nathaniel had

  439. was just literally

  440. he was so big

  441. on thinking

  442. that being from

  443. this little hole

  444. in the wall

  445. Bethsaida is important.

  446. Nathaniel's,

  447. I mean,

  448. in Nazareth

  449. there's a smaller

  450. hole in the wall

  451. so they could look

  452. down their noses

  453. on Nazarite

  454. and people

  455. from Nazareth

  456. and that,

  457. at first,

  458. that sort of

  459. just honest prejudice

  460. comes out

  461. and it's so neat

  462. because Philip

  463. doesn't,

  464. in a sense,

  465. deal with the prejudice

  466. he said,

  467. just come and see him.

  468. Just come and see him.

  469. And,

  470. you know,

  471. one of the things

  472. that we can do

  473. is,

  474. because often

  475. when we're trying

  476. to share the gospel

  477. or talk about

  478. the Christian faith

  479. is we can be,

  480. people can be filled

  481. with prejudice

  482. about the Christian faith,

  483. they can be filled

  484. with prejudice

  485. maybe about Christians

  486. or even you

  487. or the people

  488. who would come

  489. to this church

  490. or some other church

  491. and the thing is,

  492. is in a sense

  493. not to be deflected

  494. from it,

  495. to be conscious of it,

  496. but just say,

  497. yeah,

  498. come and see.

  499. Like,

  500. why don't you come

  501. and read the Bible

  502. with me?

  503. Like,

  504. why don't you come

  505. and meet some

  506. of the people

  507. who love Jesus?

  508. Like,

  509. just come and see.

  510. Like,

  511. a brilliant response

  512. to it.

  513. So the story continues.

  514. Nathaniel said to him,

  515. can anything good

  516. come out of Nazareth?

  517. Philip said to him,

  518. come and see.

  519. Now,

  520. Jesus saw Nathaniel

  521. coming toward him

  522. and said of him,

  523. behold,

  524. an Israelite indeed

  525. in whom is no guile.

  526. It was a bit prejudiced,

  527. but there's no hypocrisy

  528. in him.

  529. He's no guile.

  530. And Nathaniel said to him,

  531. how do you know me?

  532. Jesus answered

  533. and said to him,

  534. before Philip called you

  535. when you were under

  536. the fig tree,

  537. I saw you.

  538. Nathaniel answered

  539. and said to him,

  540. Rabbi,

  541. you are the son of God.

  542. You are the king of Israel.

  543. Now,

  544. this sounds a little bit

  545. incommensurate

  546. of a response to us

  547. from a very simple

  548. observation of Jesus.

  549. This is a simple miracle

  550. that Jesus performs.

  551. And John,

  552. as we're going to see

  553. in a moment,

  554. not in a moment,

  555. but next week,

  556. John has organized

  557. his gospel

  558. around a series

  559. of significant miracles

  560. and John draws out

  561. the significance

  562. of the miracle

  563. for who Jesus is

  564. and our deepest human needs.

  565. And here we see

  566. John just sharing

  567. a simple miracle

  568. of Jesus

  569. but making no comment

  570. about it whatsoever.

  571. And this is the miracle.

  572. This is why,

  573. like it wasn't as if,

  574. you know,

  575. Jesus is walking

  576. down the aisle

  577. and he turns to the left

  578. and he sees one of you

  579. sitting to his left

  580. and then later on

  581. he says,

  582. well,

  583. I noticed you

  584. when you were sitting.

  585. It's not like that at all.

  586. Nathaniel was somewhere

  587. where,

  588. humanly speaking,

  589. Jesus could not

  590. possibly have seen him.

  591. And so,

  592. Jesus begins

  593. by making an observation

  594. about Nathaniel's character.

  595. He meets Nathaniel

  596. for the first time

  597. and he says something

  598. about the soul

  599. and the mind

  600. and the heart

  601. and the will

  602. of Nathaniel.

  603. And it is probably

  604. something that Nathaniel

  605. has been really

  606. maybe deeply praying about

  607. and deeply working on

  608. and as soon as he says it

  609. about,

  610. as soon as he says this

  611. about Nathaniel,

  612. Nathaniel says in a sense,

  613. like,

  614. how on earth do you know

  615. that about me?

  616. And Jesus says,

  617. I saw you under the fig tree.

  618. And maybe that was a time

  619. when Nathaniel

  620. was maybe deep in prayer

  621. asking God

  622. to have less guile

  623. and hypocrisy

  624. in his life

  625. and more wholehearted

  626. pursuit of the truth.

  627. Maybe that was what

  628. he was doing

  629. in that private moment

  630. under the fig tree.

  631. But Jesus says something

  632. that humanly speaking,

  633. physically speaking,

  634. there's no way

  635. that Jesus could possibly

  636. have seen Nathaniel.

  637. And Nathaniel recognizes

  638. that if Jesus is able

  639. to do this miracle

  640. of sight,

  641. that it's in fact

  642. connected somehow

  643. or another

  644. to the miracle

  645. of Jesus piercing

  646. beneath the facade

  647. of Nathaniel

  648. and seen into Nathaniel's heart.

  649. And because of

  650. the miracle of sight,

  651. Nathaniel recognizes

  652. that Jesus is one

  653. who can see into heart

  654. and he goes,

  655. you are the true teacher.

  656. You are the son of God.

  657. You are the king of Israel.

  658. You know,

  659. the son of God,

  660. one of the things

  661. that we'll see

  662. as we read the gospels

  663. is that often people

  664. speak of Jesus

  665. more than they know.

  666. And the word son of God

  667. is one of those words

  668. that it can have

  669. a double meaning.

  670. And in some context

  671. it can just mean

  672. like the Messiah

  673. and in other contexts

  674. it can mean

  675. something ontological,

  676. something about

  677. the actual being.

  678. and Nathaniel maybe

  679. is just thinking of it

  680. as a messianic thing.

  681. He doesn't realize

  682. that he says

  683. more than he knows,

  684. that he picks a word,

  685. a phrase,

  686. that speaks not only

  687. of Jesus being the Messiah

  688. but also of him

  689. being ontologically

  690. God's son.

  691. He could not possibly

  692. have made that leap

  693. but it's just funny

  694. how those things

  695. happen,

  696. this double meaning

  697. of this single word.

  698. and so

  699. Jesus is able

  700. to see

  701. what cannot

  702. humanly be seen

  703. and that means

  704. he can see

  705. right into the heart

  706. of Nathaniel.

  707. He can see

  708. into your heart

  709. and mine.

  710. He can see us

  711. when nobody else

  712. can see us.

  713. In fact,

  714. you know,

  715. one of the things

  716. which is so important

  717. for us to recognize

  718. as we come here

  719. to worship

  720. is that we are coming

  721. into the presence

  722. of the living God

  723. and we are coming

  724. into the presence

  725. of Jesus

  726. who is the Savior

  727. and his eyes

  728. have been upon you

  729. all week.

  730. His eyes are upon you

  731. right now

  732. and as he looks

  733. upon you

  734. and looks deep

  735. within you

  736. he only looks

  737. with eyes of love.

  738. He only looks

  739. with eyes of love

  740. and every time

  741. we come to worship,

  742. every time we come

  743. to be in the presence

  744. of Jesus

  745. we can come

  746. confident

  747. that God

  748. is not going

  749. to shame us

  750. but only desires

  751. to bring us healing

  752. by drawing us

  753. closer to himself.

  754. Ultimately,

  755. he wants to bring

  756. you salvation

  757. and we can come

  758. expecting

  759. to meet with God

  760. and have

  761. God touch us

  762. and pray

  763. as you come here

  764. that your heart

  765. and that my heart

  766. that our hearts

  767. will be open

  768. to the presence

  769. and the touch

  770. of the God

  771. who loves us.

  772. But then Jesus

  773. continues.

  774. I mean,

  775. Nathaniel has been

  776. blown away

  777. by this simple miracle

  778. that it's in a sense

  779. a miracle

  780. so insignificant

  781. that in the gospel

  782. John is not going

  783. to even in a sense

  784. spend any time

  785. reflecting upon it

  786. but in verse 50

  787. Jesus answered

  788. and said to him

  789. because I said to you

  790. I saw you under

  791. the fig tree

  792. do you believe?

  793. You will see

  794. greater things

  795. than these.

  796. And Jesus said to him

  797. and here we see

  798. this verily, verily.

  799. It's the first time

  800. it comes in

  801. John's gospel.

  802. As David talked

  803. about a bit

  804. last week

  805. any time you see

  806. in this version

  807. I'm using

  808. it's most assuredly

  809. if you use

  810. the King James

  811. version of the Bible

  812. it's verily, verily

  813. it means

  814. amen, amen

  815. so be it, so be it.

  816. It means that

  817. something important

  818. is coming up

  819. so Jesus is trying

  820. to get our attention

  821. by speaking louder

  822. in capital letters

  823. or something

  824. and we should listen up

  825. because something

  826. important is about

  827. to be said

  828. and this is what he says

  829. verily, verily

  830. most assuredly

  831. I say to you

  832. hereafter

  833. you shall see

  834. heaven open

  835. and the angels

  836. of God

  837. ascending

  838. and descending

  839. upon the

  840. Son of Man

  841. verily, verily

  842. I say to you

  843. hereafter

  844. you shall see

  845. heaven open

  846. and the angels

  847. of God

  848. ascending

  849. and descending

  850. upon the

  851. Son of Man

  852. this

  853. this is that

  854. John has written

  855. his gospel

  856. in such a way

  857. that this is

  858. in a sense

  859. the end of the

  860. introduction

  861. and in John

    John 2 chapter mention

  862. chapter 2

  863. the book

  864. is going

  865. to change

  866. we're going

  867. to be launched

  868. into a series

  869. of significant

  870. miracles of Jesus

  871. which John

  872. probes beyond

  873. the reality

  874. of the miracle

  875. to what the miracle

  876. points to

  877. about who Jesus

  878. is and who we

  879. as human beings

  880. are and who God

  881. is and what

  882. our need is

  883. and what we are

  884. called to do

  885. and then after that

  886. there is to be

  887. the long

  888. description

  889. of the

  890. last supper

  891. and Jesus

  892. with his disciples

  893. and then the

  894. crucifixion

  895. and John

    John 1 chapter mention

  896. chapter 1

  897. this is in a sense

  898. the end of the

  899. introduction

  900. and Jesus

  901. and John

  902. ends the end

  903. of the introduction

  904. with this statement

  905. of Jesus

  906. this true statement

  907. of Jesus

  908. verily

  909. verily

  910. and he says

  911. that there are

  912. two things

  913. that Nathaniel

  914. is going to see

  915. and the first

  916. thing he says

  917. he's going to see

  918. heaven opened

  919. and that is

  920. in a sense

  921. a coded way

  922. of Jesus saying

  923. I have come

  924. to bring salvation

  925. heaven is closed

  926. to us

  927. as human beings

  928. and

  929. we are

  930. broken people

  931. we are fallen

  932. people

  933. we are people

  934. who fall short

  935. of the glory

  936. of God

  937. all have sinned

  938. and fall short

  939. of the glory

  940. of God

  941. and heaven

  942. is far off

  943. God is far off

  944. and we are

  945. alienated

  946. and separate

  947. from him

  948. and we cannot

  949. open the gate

  950. of heaven

  951. ourselves

  952. we cannot reach

  953. up to God

  954. ourselves

  955. we cannot

  956. know God

  957. truly by ourselves

  958. none is righteous

  959. no not one

  960. and I have

  961. come to

  962. open heaven

  963. so that you

  964. can come in

  965. I have come

  966. from God

  967. to bring salvation

  968. I have come

  969. from God

  970. to do that

  971. which no human

  972. being can do

  973. by themselves

  974. or in and of

  975. themselves

  976. they are neither

  977. worthy of it

  978. nor do they

  979. have the power

  980. I have come

  981. to open heaven

  982. and secondly

  983. I have come

  984. and you will see

  985. the angels

  986. of God

  987. ascending

  988. and descending

  989. upon the

  990. son of man

  991. and we will

  992. look at what

  993. the son of man

  994. means more

  995. in the coming

  996. weeks

  997. it is Jesus

  998. title about

  999. himself

  1000. but what we

  1001. see here

  1002. is that he

  1003. has come

  1004. to bring

  1005. true knowledge

  1006. of God

  1007. he has come

  1008. to bring

  1009. so that

  1010. in a sense

  1011. the angels

  1012. can ascend

  1013. and descend

  1014. that there

  1015. is true

  1016. knowledge

  1017. that comes

  1018. from God

  1019. through Jesus

  1020. to us human

  1021. beings

  1022. and that our

  1023. true knowledge

  1024. of God

  1025. himself

  1026. in a sense

  1027. us going

  1028. back up

  1029. towards God

  1030. that that

  1031. can ascend

  1032. and as there's

  1033. the knowledge

  1034. of God

  1035. that descends

  1036. and our

  1037. heartfelt prayer

  1038. and our

  1039. conversation

  1040. and our

  1041. hearts

  1042. and our

  1043. minds

  1044. and our

  1045. longings

  1046. and our

  1047. yearnings

  1048. and even

  1049. our bodies

  1050. being able

  1051. to ascend

  1052. through Jesus

  1053. to God

  1054. himself

  1055. true words

  1056. of God

  1057. that descend

  1058. and our

  1059. true need

  1060. to talk

  1061. to God

  1062. that can

  1063. ascend

  1064. Jesus

  1065. is the

  1066. one

  1067. who will

  1068. bring

  1069. revelation

  1070. remember

  1071. earlier on

  1072. I said

  1073. that at

  1074. the heart

  1075. of the

  1076. difference

  1077. in this

  1078. continuing

  1079. crisis

  1080. that it

  1081. faces the

  1082. Anglican

  1083. Church of

  1084. Canada

  1085. it's not

  1086. over

  1087. people who

  1088. experience

  1089. same-sex

  1090. attraction

  1091. I mean

  1092. friends

  1093. every single

  1094. one of us

  1095. here is

  1096. sexually

  1097. broken

  1098. every single

  1099. one of us

  1100. here is

  1101. in need

  1102. of grace

  1103. the crisis

  1104. is over

  1105. whether this

  1106. statement

  1107. of Jesus

  1108. is true

  1109. or not

  1110. is it

  1111. true

  1112. or is it

  1113. not

  1114. is in fact

  1115. Jesus

  1116. the one

  1117. who has

  1118. come from

  1119. God

  1120. breaking

  1121. into our

  1122. human order

  1123. to open

  1124. the gate

  1125. and the

  1126. door of

  1127. heaven

  1128. so that

  1129. we might

  1130. enter

  1131. in other

  1132. words

  1133. is he

  1134. the one

  1135. who brings

  1136. a salvation

  1137. from God

  1138. that only

  1139. God can

  1140. offer

  1141. and only

  1142. God

  1143. can bring

  1144. and that

  1145. we must

  1146. receive

  1147. or is

  1148. salvation

  1149. something

  1150. that through

  1151. our own

  1152. effort

  1153. our own

  1154. cleverness

  1155. our own

  1156. definition

  1157. our own

  1158. power

  1159. that we

  1160. somehow

  1161. achieve

  1162. and create

  1163. is

  1164. Jesus

  1165. the one

  1166. who brings

  1167. true knowledge

  1168. of God

  1169. and the one

  1170. that allows

  1171. us to

  1172. truly speak

  1173. to God

  1174. and

  1175. communicate

  1176. with God

  1177. or is he

  1178. just one

  1179. who brings

  1180. us some

  1181. more

  1182. metaphors

  1183. some more

  1184. similes

  1185. some more

  1186. allegories

  1187. some more

  1188. little pieces

  1189. of the puzzle

  1190. for us to

  1191. put together

  1192. ourselves

  1193. Jesus

  1194. says he

  1195. is the

  1196. one who

  1197. has come

  1198. to open

  1199. heaven

  1200. and to

  1201. bring true

  1202. revelation

  1203. of God

  1204. to us

  1205. fallen

  1206. human

  1207. beings

  1208. and this

  1209. means

  1210. that what

  1211. he has

  1212. come is

  1213. not just

  1214. something

  1215. which is a

  1216. curious fact

  1217. that can be

  1218. put in the

  1219. news of the

  1220. world or

  1221. national inquire

  1222. or people

  1223. magazine

  1224. oh by the

  1225. way do you

  1226. know that

  1227. there's somebody

  1228. who's come

  1229. who can

  1230. open heaven

  1231. and bring

  1232. revelation

  1233. it's not

  1234. just some

  1235. idle fact

  1236. to tickle

  1237. our curiosity

  1238. we are to

  1239. come to him

  1240. we are to

  1241. come to him

  1242. and since he

  1243. comes from God

  1244. and brings that

  1245. which only God

  1246. can do

  1247. and that we

  1248. are powerless

  1249. in and of

  1250. ourselves to do

  1251. it means that

  1252. the words of

  1253. Jesus come

  1254. unto me all

  1255. who labor

  1256. and are heavy

  1257. laden

  1258. I will give

  1259. you rest

  1260. take my

  1261. yoke upon

  1262. you and learn

  1263. from me

  1264. for I am

  1265. gentle and

  1266. lowly of heart

  1267. and you will

  1268. find rest

  1269. for your soul

  1270. for my yoke

  1271. is easy

  1272. and my

  1273. burden is

  1274. light

  1275. it means that

  1276. we are come

  1277. to Jesus

  1278. to know

  1279. salvation

  1280. we are come

  1281. to come

  1282. to Jesus

  1283. to know

  1284. God

  1285. and that

  1286. when we

  1287. come to

  1288. Jesus

  1289. he takes

  1290. us upon

  1291. him

  1292. he takes

  1293. us to

  1294. himself

  1295. and he

  1296. places

  1297. his yoke

  1298. upon us

  1299. so that

  1300. we can be

  1301. made whole

  1302. and we

  1303. can be

  1304. made free

  1305. and

  1306. we can

  1307. be fit

  1308. for heaven

  1309. let's bow

  1310. our heads

  1311. in prayer

  1312. Jesus

  1313. we thank

  1314. and praise

  1315. you that

  1316. you are

  1317. so patient

  1318. with us

  1319. and so

  1320. loving

  1321. we thank

  1322. and praise

  1323. you that

  1324. we are all

  1325. Nathaniels here

  1326. and you

  1327. see us

  1328. as we

  1329. walk

  1330. and sleep

  1331. and go

  1332. about our

  1333. 24-7 day

  1334. and you

  1335. see us

  1336. perfectly

  1337. and you

  1338. see right

  1339. into the

  1340. depths of

  1341. who we

  1342. are perfectly

  1343. and still

  1344. you love

  1345. us

  1346. and still

  1347. you desire

  1348. us to

  1349. come to

  1350. yourself

  1351. that you

  1352. desire us

  1353. to come

  1354. to you

  1355. to know

  1356. you

  1357. and to

  1358. have your

  1359. yoke upon

  1360. us

  1361. that you

  1362. desire

  1363. seeing us

  1364. as we
