  1. Father, incline our hearts, incline our minds, incline our wills, incline our bodies to your word.

  2. And through your word, Father, incline us to you.

  3. Incline our hearts and minds and wills and bodies.

  4. Incline our hearts and minds and wills and bodies.

  5. Incline us, Father, to you through your word.

  6. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us to lead us and guide us into all truth,

  7. to lead us and guide us to Jesus, to lead us and guide us to you.

  8. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

  9. Please be seated.

  10. Hopefully I'll remember because I just realized I didn't write it down.

  11. But later on in the service, we're going to stand.

  12. Those who can stand, we'll invite you all to stand.

  13. We're going to have a minute of silence for the 21 Christians who were slaughtered last Sunday by ISIS in Libya.

  14. There's been some internet chat inviting as many churches as possible to do that today,

  15. to take a minute of silence to remember them.

  16. And we're going to do that.

  17. And it sort of just seems like, you know, there's been a series of readings that talk a little bit about destruction and judgment.

  18. I don't know if the video is available to watch on the internet.

  19. I couldn't watch it even if it was available.

  20. You don't even have to tell me if it's available.

  21. I don't think I could watch it.

  22. Just seeing a few still photographs is enough.

  23. And you just wonder what were the men doing such a horrible thing thinking about

  24. as they dressed the victims, as they bound the victims, as they led the victims.

  25. What were they thinking as they walked away?

  26. What was going on in their heart?

  27. What did their faces look like?

  28. What emotions were they showing?

  29. Some of you will just, if you were paying attention as I read the gospel,

  30. you'll see that Jesus here today once again has a talk about judgment.

  31. And we see how Jesus responds to impending judgment.

  32. Radically, radically, radically different.

  33. And I'm going to suggest when we get to it that it's radically different

  34. than the three basic cultural models that our culture has before us when it considers judgment.

  35. So it would be a great help to me if you would get your Bibles and open them up to Luke chapter 19.

    Luke 19 chapter mention

  36. And we're going to begin reading at verse 28.

  37. And we have to sort of get to that time of Jesus and his talk about judgment

  38. and how he responds to it and just sort of what's going on in the whole thing.

  39. And so it's Luke chapter 19, verse 28.

    Luke 19:28

  40. If you just turn your Bibles there, we'll start reading.

  41. And just a bit of a correction.

  42. Last week I said that verse 27, if you go back and listen to the sermon,

  43. and we immediately have Jesus in Jerusalem,

  44. I should have said that immediately he comes to the suburbs of Jerusalem.

  45. And it's all part of this.

  46. Luke gives sort of a long introduction to build tension to the reader

  47. in terms of before Jesus actually sets foot in the city of Jerusalem.

  48. And that's what we're going to catch up with right now.

  49. Verse 28.

  50. And when Jesus had said these things, he went on ahead.

  51. And going up to Jerusalem, sorry, he went on ahead.

  52. Going up to Jerusalem.

  53. Jerusalem sort of up high.

  54. If you've ever been there, you have to go up to go to Jerusalem.

  55. And when he drew near to Bethpage and Bethany,

  56. about a mile and a half or so outside of Jerusalem,

  57. at the mount, which is called Olivet,

  58. he sent two of the disciples saying,

  59. go into the village in front of you,

  60. where on entering you will find a colt tied,

  61. on which no one has ever yet sat.

  62. Untie it and bring it here.

  63. If anyone asks you, why are you untying it?

  64. You shall say, the Lord has need of it.

  65. And just sort of pause here for a second.

  66. One of the things which is happening in this story is that,

  67. because remember, it's going to culminate.

  68. The gospel is going to culminate or reach its, in a sense,

  69. its climax with the death of Jesus upon the cross

  70. and then the surprise of the resurrection three days later.

  71. And so what's happening here is that Luke is, who's a historian,

  72. remember Luke is a pagan who became a Christian.

  73. And if you go back and look at the beginning of the book of Luke,

  74. you'll see that he's writing it for another pagan.

  75. Whether that pagan is a skeptic or a seeker, we don't know,

  76. but Luke is a pagan doctor who's become an historian,

  77. who's sought out eyewitnesses,

  78. and is telling the story of Jesus.

  79. Now, for us to hear as well, with other pagans and skeptics and seekers.

  80. And so what Luke is doing is he's recording here something very, very remarkable,

  81. that he's not only recording the foreknowledge of Jesus,

  82. but he's showing that at this point in time,

  83. Jesus is the master of his fate, so to speak.

  84. I mean, he's doing everything, as we'll see in the weeks to come.

  85. He's doing everything out of love for us and obedience to the Father.

  86. But it's not that events are overwhelming Jesus,

  87. but Jesus is in control of events,

  88. and in fact even moves things in certain ways,

  89. so that he is always in control of events.

  90. And that's what's happening here.

  91. And even, we're going to talk about it more probably in a couple of weeks,

  92. when we get to Luke chapter 21.

    Luke 21 chapter mention

  93. But Jesus here is doing something that fulfills a prophecy in the book of Zechariah,

  94. and a whole host of Old Testament allusions.

  95. But Jesus is in control.

  96. That's what we have to see.

  97. So back to verse 32.

  98. Back to verse 32.

  99. And so those who were sent away,

  100. and found, so those who were sent went away,

  101. and found it just as he had told them.

  102. And as they were untying the colt,

  103. its owners said to them,

  104. why are you untying the colt?

  105. And the disciples said,

  106. the Lord has need of it.

  107. I don't know if they were nervous when they said that or what, eh?

  108. They might have been pretty nervous, eh?

  109. Yeah, just go into a city and take this colt.

  110. And if somebody complains,

  111. just tell them, I sent you.

  112. Bit of faith there, right?

  113. Verse 35.

  114. And they brought it to Jesus,

  115. and throwing their cloaks on the colt,

  116. they sat Jesus on it.

  117. And as he rode along,

  118. they spread their cloaks on the road.

  119. Just sort of pause.

  120. Now, I'm going to be careful,

  121. because maybe some of you are horse people,

  122. and you know things about horses that I don't.

  123. I'm a city boy,

  124. and so I don't know about horses.

  125. But I happen to know that one of the commentaries that I wrote,

  126. I happen to know the person who wrote it,

  127. and I know that he grew up on a horse farm,

  128. and he's still a farmer.

  129. And he commented that this in and of itself is a miracle

  130. that Jesus could ride a colt that had never been sat on.

  131. And maybe it's just because only a horse person would notice

  132. that this is sort of a miracle.

  133. And it shows, in a sense,

  134. it's all a part of what's going to culminate

  135. with Jesus saying that even the stones would cry out.

  136. Because you see,

  137. here's the thing that we have to always remember,

  138. is that Christians don't worship nature,

  139. but we as Christians should always remember

  140. that nature worships its creator.

  141. In fact, one of the things that might happen to us in heaven,

  142. in the new heaven and the new earth,

  143. is that right now the seas are clapping their hands,

  144. and the trees are singing,

  145. and the mountains are calling out God's praise,

  146. and we are almost completely and utterly deaf to it.

  147. And maybe one of the things that will be the wonder

  148. and the joy of the new heaven and the new earth

  149. is it will hear how it is the trees and streams and mountains

  150. and the stars themselves, praise God.

  151. And so this is in a very subtle way

  152. showing Jesus as the creator and the Lord of the earth

  153. as he enters into Jerusalem.

  154. So verse 35,

  155. and they brought it to Jesus,

  156. and throwing their cloaks on the colt,

  157. they set Jesus on it.

  158. And as he rode along,

  159. they spread their cloaks on the road.

  160. As he was drawing near,

  161. already on the way down the Mount of Olives,

  162. the whole multitude of his disciples

  163. began to rejoice and to praise God

  164. with a loud voice for all the mighty works

  165. that they had seen.

  166. Just sort of pause here for a second.

  167. This is one of the few events in Jesus' life

  168. that all four of the historical records

  169. that we have of the life and death of Jesus,

  170. we know them as, we call them gospels,

  171. but they were, of course, originally historical records.

  172. It might be that if you did some reading on the internet,

  173. you'd be able to see some,

  174. not obviously the original manuscripts,

  175. but old manuscripts.

  176. It helps you to appreciate

  177. that these are old historical records.

  178. And this is one of the few events in Jesus' life

  179. that all four of the gospel writers talk about it.

  180. And so it might be,

  181. when you look at all four of them together,

  182. and I'm going to talk about some simple ways

  183. that you sort of harmonize them,

  184. but the main thing is,

  185. if you read John's gospel, his account,

  186. you realize that one of the reasons

  187. there's such a large crowd of people

  188. is because while Jesus was in Bethany,

  189. he raised Lazarus from the dead

  190. after he'd been in the grave for four days.

  191. And this news spreads like wildfire,

  192. helps to create a crowd of people.

  193. And who knows, maybe it still is,

  194. that blind Bartimaeus

  195. and the other blind man who was healed,

  196. that they were calling everybody

  197. all about the fact that Jesus

  198. had just the day before healed them of sight.

  199. And maybe even the news

  200. that such a notorious sinner as Zacchaeus

  201. had become a follower of Jesus,

  202. and he's proving it by giving away his fortune.

  203. And so there is a crowd.

  204. There is a crowd.

  205. We're going to talk more about this in a second,

  206. about why there is a crowd.

  207. But in verse 38, what are they calling out?

  208. They quote Psalm 118, verse 25.

    Psalms 118:25

  209. But they modify it

  210. because they modify it

  211. because they see what's happening in front of them

  212. as, in a sense,

  213. what Psalm 118, verse 25 is all about.

    Psalms 118:25

  214. And they cry out,

  215. blessed is the king who comes

  216. in the name of the Lord.

  217. Peace in heaven

  218. and glory in the highest.

  219. And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him,

  220. teacher, rebuke your disciples.

  221. And Jesus answered.

  222. And in the original language,

  223. the way that the verb tenses and everything

  224. and the way that the words are arranged,

  225. it's clear.

  226. In the original language,

  227. the Pharisees rebuked Jesus.

  228. Jesus doesn't back down.

  229. He rebukes the Pharisees.

  230. And his rebuke of the Pharisees to say,

  231. I tell you,

  232. if these were silent,

  233. the very stones would cry out.

  234. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful line.

  235. Now, here's the thing about this

  236. is that if you go back and you read,

  237. if you go back,

  238. maybe as part of your preparation

  239. for Easter coming up

  240. and to read the Gospel of Luke up until now,

  241. you'll notice that this is actually

  242. profoundly out of character for Jesus.

  243. That generally in the Gospels,

  244. whenever there's large crowds

  245. that want to call Jesus the King,

  246. he goes away to pray.

  247. He dismisses the crowds.

  248. He tries to not have crowds.

  249. I mean, when crowds come to him,

  250. like in the wilderness,

  251. and he teaches them,

  252. he doesn't rebuke them.

  253. He has a compassionate heart,

  254. a tender heart.

  255. He feeds the 5,000.

  256. He feeds the 4,000.

  257. He deals with crowds,

  258. but he's regularly trying to silence

  259. all king language.

  260. But now we see that Jesus actually

  261. creates an event

  262. that draws a huge crowd

  263. where they call him king.

  264. Jesus creates this event on purpose.

  265. That's what he do.

  266. It's very, very, very out of character.

  267. With Jesus and the rest of the Gospels.

  268. Well, why is that?

  269. Andrew, if you could put up the first point,

  270. I think it's for this reason.

  271. Jesus lived and died in human history,

  272. and he takes steps to make a crowd

  273. so that tens of thousands

  274. will be witnessed to his public death

  275. upon the cross and his empty tomb.

  276. Jesus lived and died in human history,

  277. and he takes steps to make a crowd

  278. so that tens of thousands

  279. will be witnessed to his public death

  280. upon the cross and his empty tomb.

  281. He's not killed off in a corner,

  282. and nobody, you know,

  283. there's a time in John's Gospel

  284. where it's clear that Jesus

  285. entered the city secretly.

  286. In fact, if you read John's Gospel,

  287. Jesus' brothers and sisters

  288. who don't believe in Jesus,

  289. they say, come on, Jesus,

  290. if you really want to make a,

  291. you know, you're really the Messiah,

  292. you want to build a movement?

  293. Like, you don't go away,

  294. you don't go around

  295. not trying to attract people.

  296. Like, people who want to build

  297. a movement, Messiah.

  298. You know, you can just imagine

  299. those of you who have brothers,

  300. how they can mock you.

  301. I'm sure none of you here

  302. ever mocked other siblings.

  303. We're talking about other people

  304. being bad and mean to you, okay?

  305. Some of you might have something

  306. to repent of during the confession

  307. later on, but you can just,

  308. and so Jesus enters Jerusalem

  309. at least one time

  310. completely and utterly anonymously

  311. for several days

  312. when he's in there

  313. before something happens.

  314. So Jesus actually goes out of his way

  315. the raising of Lazarus,

  316. the healing of Bartimaeus,

  317. the calling of Zacchaeus,

  318. the going to get the donkey,

  319. the call of him to be the king,

  320. and rather than trying to quiet it,

  321. I don't know,

  322. maybe he was going around

  323. doing like this, I don't know.

  324. You know, the way defenses do it

  325. in the NFL when they want

  326. the crowd noise to get up loud

  327. for the offense

  328. so they can't hear the calls.

  329. Maybe Jesus was doing that,

  330. we don't know.

  331. But he creates the event.

  332. And he creates the event

  333. so that by the time,

  334. in just a couple of days,

  335. when he dies upon the cross,

  336. and then after,

  337. not everybody will witness

  338. the resurrection,

  339. but everybody will be witness

  340. to the empty tomb.

  341. And so they will be caught

  342. with the compelling testimony

  343. of up to 500 plus people

  344. that Jesus has risen,

  345. and they'll see no other

  346. possible explanation,

  347. and many hearts will be pierced,

  348. and thousands will come to faith

  349. in Jesus within days

  350. of the coming of Pentecost,

  351. in Pentecost,

  352. and then shortly after,

  353. and Jesus creates a crowd

  354. where tens of thousands

  355. will know that he's in Jerusalem,

  356. that he's died,

  357. that the grave is empty.

  358. That's what he does.

  359. Now, sometimes I think to myself,

  360. what would I do

  361. if I was the pastor

  362. of a megachurch?

  363. Here's one of these times

  364. when I really,

  365. really wish

  366. I was the pastor

  367. of a megachurch

  368. and had a megachurch

  369. art department and budget,

  370. because if so,

  371. what I would do now

  372. to make a transition

  373. to the next point

  374. is I would say,

  375. Andrew,

  376. just roll the screen,

  377. and there'd be

  378. a big picture here

  379. of Iron Man

  380. in the first Iron Man movie.

  381. And some of you guys

  382. and gals

  383. who watched that movie,

  384. you know there's that scene

  385. early on

  386. when he goes to this village

  387. and he touches his arm

  388. and a missile turns up,

  389. goes wild,

  390. and as soon as he fires it,

  391. he turns and starts walking away,

  392. and then there's the huge explosions

  393. in the background,

  394. and it gets this,

  395. I mean,

  396. I think just about

  397. every American action film now,

  398. it's not an action film,

  399. if it doesn't have the hero

  400. walking away from an explosion

  401. in the background.

  402. And that's what I would

  403. show you right now,

  404. and because we were a megachurch,

  405. I'd be there beside Iron Man,

  406. and it would be Iron Man

  407. and me walking away

  408. as there's this horrendous fire

  409. and destruction

  410. that nobody will survive,

  411. and where everything

  412. is raised to the ground

  413. behind us,

  414. and Iron Man and I

  415. would walk away,

  416. and that would be the transition

  417. to the next point,

  418. because Jesus,

  419. as he enters,

  420. just before he enters Jerusalem,

  421. he does something

  422. which is very

  423. un-Iron Man-like.

  424. Iron Man has quips,

  425. he makes jokes,

  426. but what does Jesus do

  427. when he realizes

  428. that in a sense

  429. the missiles from God

  430. are going to come

  431. upon the human race?

  432. But that's what we see

  433. in these very next verses

  434. in verse 41 to 44.

  435. And when Jesus drew near

  436. and saw the city,

  437. he wept over it.

  438. He wept over it.

  439. This is very, very, very,

  440. very, very important moment

  441. in the gospel.

  442. If you want to know

  443. what's going on

  444. with the crucifixion,

  445. what's going on,

  446. Jesus says he comes

  447. to seek and save the lost.

  448. If you want to have

  449. a sense of the heart of Jesus,

  450. the worldview of Jesus,

  451. the mind of Jesus,

  452. the purpose of Jesus,

  453. this is a very important verse.

  454. And when Jesus drew near

  455. and saw the city,

  456. he wept over it.

  457. Now, he's not weeping

  458. because of the fact

  459. that there's all these bad guys

  460. who don't like him.

  461. He's not weeping

  462. over the fact in a sense

  463. that there's nothing

  464. he can do about it.

  465. Here's what he says.

  466. Would that you,

  467. even you,

  468. had known on this day

  469. the things that make for peace?

  470. That's not political peace.

  471. It's the fact that as rebels,

  472. we are at enmity with God.

  473. In a sense,

  474. every human being

  475. has in some part of their heart

  476. a rage against God.

  477. And Jesus comes to make,

  478. not to make peace with God to us,

  479. because God doesn't have

  480. to make peace with us

  481. because he's good.

  482. But I have to make peace with him.

  483. You have to make peace with God.

  484. But now they are hidden

  485. from your eyes,

  486. for the days will come upon you

  487. when your enemies

  488. will set up a barricade around you

  489. and surround you

  490. and hem you in on every side

  491. and tear you down to the ground,

  492. you and your children within you.

  493. He's saying this weeping.

  494. Tears are coming down his face

  495. as he says this.

  496. In fact,

  497. in the original language,

  498. it's a sobbing.

  499. He's saying these words,

  500. sobbing.

  501. You can just imagine

  502. how the disciples

  503. would just be standing there.

  504. People shouting his praises

  505. and the disciples

  506. are right beside him.

  507. And Jesus is sobbing

  508. as he looks at the city of Jerusalem.

  509. And he ends it by saying,

  510. and they will not leave

  511. one stone upon another in you

  512. because you did not know

  513. the time of your visitation.

  514. And he's talking about himself.

  515. So here's the thing.

  516. And I have to confess,

  517. I've used some old-fashioned language

  518. because those of us

  519. who are familiar

  520. with the prayer book tradition

  521. knows that the very, very heart

  522. of morning and evening prayer

  523. as part of the explanation

  524. as to what you should be doing

  525. as you go into the service,

  526. that there is, in fact,

  527. a key sentence

  528. that God takes no delight

  529. in the death of a sinner,

  530. but rather that he may turn

  531. from his wickedness and live.

  532. And it's a quote

  533. from two passages

  534. in the book of Ezekiel.

  535. And here's the thing

  536. that we have to understand.

  537. If you could put it up, Andrew.

  538. Jesus takes no delight

  539. in the death of a sinner.

  540. He longs for us

  541. to turn from our wickedness

  542. and live.

  543. And I can't help

  544. but use the word wickedness

  545. because I don't say

  546. morning and evening prayer

  547. all the time,

  548. but it's just part

  549. of my verbal

  550. and mental makeup

  551. that I just, you know,

  552. God taketh no delight

  553. in the death of a sinner,

  554. but rather that he may turn,

  555. will turn from his wickedness

  556. and live.

  557. It's just part of it.

  558. So I put it up there.

  559. But it's a quote

  560. from Ezekiel

  561. in two different locations.

  562. And so the Bible

  563. helps us to understand

  564. what's going on here.

  565. The Bible interprets

  566. what's going on.

  567. We're going to talk about

  568. that more in a moment.

  569. But Jesus takes no delight

  570. in the death of a sinner.

  571. He longs for us

  572. to turn from our wickedness

  573. and live.

  574. You see,

  575. what this text shows

  576. is that people matter to God.

  577. People matter to God.

  578. And if you think about it,

  579. I said that there's

  580. sort of three primary

  581. sort of cultural images

  582. or icons or frameworks

  583. by which we understand

  584. impending judgment.

  585. Because if you think about it,

  586. in a sense,

  587. movies like Iron Man,

  588. they, in a sense,

  589. through the story,

  590. manipulate you

  591. so that when Iron Man

  592. presses the thing,

  593. I think he presses something

  594. on his wrist

  595. and fires these missiles.

  596. You know,

  597. he never seems to have

  598. to reload or anything like that

  599. or go to the bathroom.

  600. He just presses these things

  601. and then turns away.

  602. everybody behind him

  603. has died.

  604. And we as the audience

  605. aren't seeing,

  606. good grief,

  607. he just killed

  608. all those people.

  609. We're going,

  610. yes,

  611. he killed all those people.

  612. Gosh,

  613. I wish I could be

  614. like Iron Man.

  615. That's what's going on in us.

  616. That's one cultural model.

  617. George W. Bush,

  618. I don't make any

  619. political comment here,

  620. but it was widely quoted

  621. and widely understood

  622. when he went after the 9-11

  623. and he said,

  624. we're going after these guys.

  625. He said,

  626. God,

  627. have mercy on their souls

  628. because we won't.

  629. It's Iron Man.

  630. And there's left

  631. and right wing versions

  632. of that,

  633. by the way,

  634. folks.

  635. It's not a political comment.

  636. It's a cultural type of moment

  637. that there's a way

  638. of understanding bad guys

  639. that it's all right

  640. to raise them to the ground

  641. and we do it

  642. either with jokes,

  643. with steely-eyed determination,

  644. with a look on our face

  645. that says,

  646. we have nothing

  647. to forgive or forget.

  648. We are masters

  649. of our destiny.

  650. Don't mess with me.

  651. We kick butt

  652. if you mess with us.

  653. I kick butt

  654. if you mess with me.

  655. Jesus weeps.

  656. Many of us,

  657. in reaction to that,

  658. are deeply drawn

  659. to the image of the Buddha

  660. and this whole image

  661. of the Buddha.

  662. you know,

  663. if you see the statues

  664. of the Buddha,

  665. of him just sitting there,

  666. sort of eyes inward,

  667. a look of type of peace

  668. on his face,

  669. completely and utterly,

  670. in a sense,

  671. detached.

  672. detached.

  673. And in a sense,

  674. we have this image

  675. that what we desire

  676. is to be still like water.

  677. That's what I want

  678. to be inside of me,

  679. still like water.

  680. The problem is

  681. people do horrendous things.

  682. Do we really want

  683. to be still like water

  684. in the face of evil?

  685. Do we want to be still

  686. like water

  687. in the face of injustice?

  688. Do we want to be still

  689. like water

  690. in the face

  691. of atrocities?

  692. Isn't there a place

  693. for right and wrong

  694. and for judgment?

  695. Should we look

  696. at ISIS

  697. killing

  698. 21

  699. innocent Christians

  700. in cold blood

  701. with arrogant

  702. language

  703. and be still

  704. like water?

  705. Is that

  706. what it means

  707. to be fully human?

  708. The other

  709. type of cultural

  710. ideal

  711. which fascinates us

  712. is in fact

  713. a certain version

  714. of the Muslim ideal,

  715. the image

  716. of Muhammad

  717. as a warrior.

  718. Muhammad

  719. historically

  720. did not weep

  721. over the people

  722. that he killed.

  723. He did not weep

  724. over the people

  725. that he had

  726. assassinated.

  727. He did not weep

  728. while he gathered

  729. armies

  730. to attack

  731. people

  732. who opposed him.

  733. He was strong.

  734. And that

  735. is another version

  736. of the cultural

  737. models

  738. by which we

  739. understand

  740. how judgment

  741. can come

  742. and how we

  743. should respond.

  744. And Jesus

  745. weeps.

  746. Jesus weeps.

  747. That's the beginning

  748. of the understanding

  749. of how

  750. Jesus is different

  751. that Jesus

  752. takes no delight

  753. in the death

  754. of a sinner.

  755. He longs for us

  756. to turn

  757. from our wickedness

  758. and live.

  759. But there's another

  760. aspect to it as well.

  761. As I mentioned

  762. last week

  763. who in the story

  764. dies?

  765. Jesus.

  766. Andrew if you could

  767. put up the third

  768. point.

  769. God's final

  770. judgment

  771. raises

  772. and those

  773. who are listening

  774. to this online

  775. R-A-Z-E-S

  776. not

  777. raises

  778. like R-A-I-S

  779. but raises

  780. a type of judgment

  781. where everything

  782. is just completely

  783. destroyed.

  784. God's final

  785. judgment

  786. raises

  787. or destroys

  788. in compassion

  789. Jesus

  790. took

  791. my

  792. place.

  793. Iron Man

  794. does not

  795. take the place

  796. of those

  797. that are bad

  798. that he kills.

  799. Muhammad

  800. does not

  801. take the place

  802. of those

  803. who are bad

  804. that he kills.

  805. And

  806. Buddha

  807. does not

  808. take the place

  809. of those

  810. who are

  811. evil

  812. and deserve

  813. judgment.

  814. Jesus

  815. the

  816. innocent

  817. one

  818. in the

  819. face

  820. of the

  821. raising

  822. which we

  823. deserve

  824. comes to

  825. every one

  826. of us

  827. and every

  828. person on

  829. the planet

  830. including

  831. the people

  832. who killed

  833. the 21

  834. Christians

  835. and says

  836. you deserve

  837. to be raised

  838. out of

  839. compassion

  840. for you

  841. I took

  842. your place.

  843. I took

  844. your place.

  845. Jesus

  846. looks over

  847. Jerusalem

  848. he sees

  849. the religious

  850. people

  851. he sees

  852. the spiritual

  853. people

  854. he sees

  855. the pagans

  856. he sees

  857. the people

  858. who are

  859. completely

  860. and utterly

  861. irreligious

  862. he sees

  863. the powerful

  864. he sees

  865. the weak

  866. in a sense

  867. he sees

  868. into the future

  869. and sees

  870. Peter and

  871. Paul there

  872. he sees

  873. Judas

  874. who betrayed

  875. him

  876. and he

  877. weeps.

  878. here's

  879. the takeaway

  880. for us

  881. and once

  882. again

  883. these points

  884. are always

  885. on the

  886. web page

  887. probably within

  888. about 24

  889. hours

  890. if you

  891. want to

  892. write them

  893. down

  894. later on

  895. I need

  896. to personally

  897. receive

  898. the good

  899. news

  900. of Jesus

  901. Messiah

  902. crucified

  903. and live

  904. gripped

  905. by him

  906. and by

  907. what he

  908. has said

  909. and done

  910. that's the

  911. purpose of

  912. this story

  913. that's why

  914. Luke

  915. Luke

  916. was a

  917. pagan

  918. for decades

  919. who becomes

  920. a follower

  921. of Jesus

  922. by talking

  923. to the

  924. witnesses

  925. and by

  926. their

  927. testimony

  928. and Luke

  929. heart

  930. is

  931. Theophilus

  932. a pagan

  933. whether a

  934. skeptic

  935. or a

  936. seeker

  937. that he

  938. will come

  939. that you

  940. will come

  941. to personally

  942. receive the

  943. good news

  944. of Jesus

  945. Messiah

  946. crucified

  947. and live

  948. gripped

  949. by him

  950. and what

  951. he has

  952. said

  953. and what

  954. he has

  955. done

  956. and the

  957. gospels

  958. constantly

  959. present to

  960. us a

  961. choice

  962. the gospels

  963. are going

  964. to say

  965. are you

  966. going to

  967. be like

  968. Judas

  969. or like

  970. Peter

  971. both of

  972. whom

  973. failed

  974. their

  975. Lord

  976. will you

  977. be like

  978. Judas

  979. or like

  980. Peter

  981. the heart

  982. of Jesus

  983. who weeps

  984. says

  985. be like

  986. Peter

  987. earlier

  988. on

  989. just a

  990. little bit

  991. before this

  992. the rich

  993. young man

  994. and Zacchaeus

  995. and the

  996. question is

  997. will you be

  998. like the

  999. rich young

  1000. man

  1001. or Zacchaeus

  1002. and the

  1003. heart of

  1004. Jesus

  1005. says

  1006. I've

  1007. died

  1008. in the

  1009. hope

  1010. that you

  1011. will be

  1012. like

  1013. Zacchaeus

  1014. not the

  1015. rich young

  1016. man

  1017. earlier

  1018. on the

  1019. gospel

  1020. the centurion

  1021. and the

  1022. Pharisee

  1023. in the

  1024. early

  1025. the centurion

  1026. who has

  1027. his servant

  1028. healed

  1029. and is

  1030. the very

  1031. first one

  1032. in the

  1033. gospels

  1034. to have

  1035. their faith

  1036. in Jesus

  1037. and Jesus

  1038. says

  1039. I've never

  1040. seen such

  1041. faith like

  1042. this before

  1043. and the

  1044. face of

  1045. Pharisees

  1046. who betray

  1047. and are

  1048. angry

  1049. and belittle

  1050. and attack

  1051. Jesus

  1052. and the

  1053. heart of

  1054. Jesus

  1055. says

  1056. I died

  1057. for the

  1058. centurion

  1059. I died

  1060. for the

  1061. Pharisee

  1062. my heart

  1063. is

  1064. that you

  1065. will be

  1066. like the

  1067. centurion

  1068. the pagan

  1069. soldiers

  1070. that

  1071. that is

  1072. that is

  1073. my

  1074. heart

  1075. hear

  1076. this

  1077. good

  1078. news

  1079. receive

  1080. it

  1081. be

  1082. gripped

  1083. by

  1084. me

  1085. allow

  1086. me

  1087. to

  1088. grip

  1089. you

  1090. and

  1091. be

  1092. gripped

  1093. by

  1094. me

  1095. and

  1096. my

  1097. words

  1098. and

  1099. what

  1100. I've

  1101. done

  1102. for

  1103. you

  1104. now

  1105. some

  1106. of you

  1107. might

  1108. say

  1109. George

  1110. that's

  1111. a

  1112. very

  1113. very

  1114. beautiful

  1115. story

  1116. and

  1117. you've

  1118. gone

  1119. in a

  1120. sense

  1121. beyond

  1122. the

  1123. immediate

  1124. words

  1125. and

  1126. tried

  1127. to

  1128. encompass

  1129. the

  1130. other

  1131. things

  1132. that

  1133. take

  1134. place

  1135. and

  1136. happen

  1137. in the

  1138. gospel

  1139. but

  1140. weeping

  1141. George

  1142. isn't

  1143. weeping

  1144. a sign

  1145. of

  1146. weakness

  1147. George

  1148. often

  1149. when I

  1150. weep

  1151. it's

  1152. because

  1153. it might

  1154. be

  1155. because

  1156. I

  1157. have

  1158. compassion

  1159. but

  1160. it's

  1161. always

  1162. compassion

  1163. combined

  1164. with

  1165. powerlessness

  1166. I

  1167. weep

  1168. because

  1169. I

  1170. wonder

  1171. why

  1172. did

  1173. my

  1174. child

  1175. leave

  1176. me

  1177. I

  1178. weep

  1179. because

  1180. I

  1181. wonder

  1182. why

  1183. my

  1184. husband

  1185. or

  1186. why

  1187. my

  1188. wife

  1189. left

  1190. me

  1191. I

  1192. weep

  1193. in

  1194. the

  1195. face

  1196. of

  1197. illness

  1198. that

  1199. I

  1200. can't

  1201. deal

  1202. with

  1203. myself

  1204. I

  1205. weep

  1206. because

  1207. it

  1208. seems

  1209. and

  1210. I

  1211. can't

  1212. do

  1213. anything

  1214. about

  1215. it

  1216. and

  1217. that's

  1218. weeping

  1219. George

  1220. weeping

  1221. is a

  1222. sign

  1223. of

  1224. weakness

  1225. surely

  1226. we

  1227. want

  1228. to

  1229. be

  1230. more

  1231. like

  1232. Buddha

  1233. surely

  1234. we

  1235. want

  1236. to

  1237. be

  1238. okay

  1239. granted

  1240. he

  1241. should

  1242. cut

  1243. out

  1244. the

  1245. jokes

  1246. and

  1247. show

  1248. some

  1249. compassion

  1250. but

  1251. surely

  1252. we

  1253. want

  1254. to

  1255. be

  1256. more

  1257. like

  1258. Iron

  1259. man

  1260. like

  1261. weeping

  1262. is a

  1263. sign

  1264. of

  1265. weakness

  1266. it's

  1267. part

  1268. of

  1269. the

  1270. brilliance

  1271. of

  1272. how

  1273. Luke

  1274. records

  1275. the

  1276. events

  1277. of

  1278. Jesus

  1279. that

  1280. will

  1281. of

  1282. Jesus

  1283. let's

  1284. look

  1285. at

  1286. it

  1287. in

  1288. verse

  1289. 45

  1290. and

  1291. Jesus

  1292. entered

  1293. the

  1294. temple

  1295. and

  1296. began

  1297. to

  1298. drive

  1299. out

  1300. those

  1301. who

  1302. sold

  1303. notice

  1304. that

  1305. again

  1306. Jesus

  1307. entered

  1308. the

  1309. temple

  1310. and

  1311. began

  1312. to

  1313. drive

  1314. out

  1315. drive

  1316. out

  1317. if

  1318. you

  1319. read

  1320. the

  1321. other

  1322. gospel

  1323. accounts

  1324. he's

  1325. kicking

  1326. over

  1327. tables

  1328. he's

  1329. getting

  1330. people

  1331. out

  1332. of

  1333. there

  1334. he

  1335. has

  1336. the

  1337. whole

  1338. area

  1339. the

  1340. court

  1341. of

  1342. the

  1343. Gentiles

  1344. in

  1345. a

  1346. complete

  1347. and

  1348. utter

  1349. uproar

  1350. money

  1351. is

  1352. being

  1353. kicked

  1354. over

  1355. the

  1356. animals

  1357. are

  1358. being

  1359. released

  1360. he's

  1361. in

  1362. a

  1363. zealous

  1364. he's

  1365. filled

  1366. with

  1367. zeal

  1368. and

  1369. people

  1370. back

  1371. down

  1372. they're

  1373. driven

  1374. away

  1375. he

  1376. drives

  1377. they're

  1378. driven

  1379. and

  1380. he

  1381. says

  1382. to

  1383. them

  1384. it

  1385. is

  1386. written

  1387. my

  1388. house

  1389. shall

  1390. be

  1391. a

  1392. house

  1393. of

  1394. prayer

  1395. he

  1396. quotes

  1397. from

  1398. Isaiah

  1399. but

  1400. you

  1401. have

  1402. made

  1403. it

  1404. a

  1405. den

  1406. a

  1407. place

  1408. where

  1409. robbers

  1410. live

  1411. quotes

  1412. from

  1413. the

  1414. book

  1415. of

  1416. Jeremiah

  1417. we

  1418. see

  1419. here

  1420. in

  1421. this

  1422. story

  1423. steel

  1424. and

  1425. strength

  1426. and

  1427. passion

  1428. and

  1429. zeal

  1430. and

  1431. he's

  1432. not

  1433. mad

  1434. because

  1435. people

  1436. are

  1437. making

  1438. money

  1439. and

  1440. he's

  1441. not

  1442. mad

  1443. because

  1444. people

  1445. are

  1446. trying

  1447. to

  1448. be

  1449. helpful

  1450. what's

  1451. going

  1452. on

  1453. is

  1454. that

  1455. the

  1456. temple

  1457. is

  1458. to

  1459. be

  1460. a

  1461. place

  1462. where

  1463. robbers

  1464. and

  1465. thieves

  1466. come

  1467. before

  1468. God

  1469. seeking

  1470. mercy

  1471. the

  1472. temple

  1473. is

  1474. not

  1475. to

  1476. be

  1477. a

  1478. place

  1479. where

  1480. thieves

  1481. and

  1482. robbers

  1483. rule

  1484. the

  1485. temple

  1486. to

  1487. make

  1488. money

  1489. wrapping

  1490. themselves

  1491. in

  1492. holiness

  1493. that's

  1494. what

  1495. it's

  1496. become

  1497. the

  1498. place

  1499. the

  1500. only

  1501. place

  1502. in

  1503. the

  1504. temple

  1505. where

  1506. pagans

  1507. can

  1508. come

  1509. and

  1510. call

  1511. out

  1512. to

  1513. God

  1514. because

  1515. all

  1516. of

  1517. the

  1518. Old

  1519. Testament

  1520. keeps

  1521. telling

  1522. them

  1523. that

  1524. the

  1525. Jewish

  1526. people

  1527. that

  1528. they

  1529. are

  1530. to

  1531. bear

  1532. witness

  1533. to

  1534. the

  1535. entire

  1536. world

  1537. of

  1538. the

  1539. living

  1540. God

  1541. and

  1542. the

  1543. place

  1544. where

  1545. the

  1546. pagans

  1547. can

  1548. come

  1549. is

  1550. the

  1551. place

  1552. that's

  1553. given

  1554. over

  1555. to

  1556. the

  1557. selling

  1558. of

  1559. animals

  1560. and

  1561. the

  1562. changing

  1563. of

  1564. money

  1565. at

  1566. exorbitant

  1567. rates

  1568. with

  1569. a

  1570. din

  1571. and

  1572. a

  1573. baying

  1574. and

  1575. a

  1576. bellowing

  1577. and

  1578. a

  1579. clinking

  1580. and

  1581. a

  1582. joking

  1583. and

  1584. a

  1585. cursing

  1586. and

  1587. an

  1588. anger

  1589. that

  1590. would

  1591. mean

  1592. that

  1593. the

  1594. entire

  1595. temple

  1596. is

  1597. not

  1598. dominated

  1599. by

  1600. any

  1601. sense

  1602. of

  1603. peace

  1604. and

  1605. quiet

  1606. but

  1607. by

  1608. the

  1609. sounds

  1610. of

  1611. people

  1612. charging

  1613. way

  1614. more

  1615. to

  1616. rip

  1617. you

  1618. off

  1619. you

  1620. put up

  1621. the

  1622. second

  1623. the

  1624. next

  1625. point

  1626. Andrew

  1627. here's

  1628. a

  1629. takeaway

  1630. from

  1631. this

  1632. God

  1633. abhors

  1634. it's

  1635. a big

  1636. word

  1637. it

  1638. means

  1639. just

  1640. he

  1641. detests

  1642. he

  1643. hates

  1644. people

  1645. who

  1646. use

  1647. him

  1648. to

  1649. take

  1650. advantage

  1651. of

  1652. others

  1653. while

  1654. taking

  1655. to

  1656. themselves

  1657. money

  1658. and

  1659. power

  1660. God

  1661. abhors

  1662. people

  1663. who

  1664. use

  1665. him

  1666. to

  1667. take

  1668. advantage

  1669. of

  1670. others

  1671. while

  1672. taking

  1673. to

  1674. themselves

  1675. money

  1676. and

  1677. power

  1678. does

  1679. a

  1680. politician

  1681. call

  1682. people

  1683. to

  1684. pray

  1685. that

  1686. might

  1687. be

  1688. a

  1689. very

  1690. good

  1691. thing

  1692. if

  1693. he

  1694. does

  1695. it

  1696. to

  1697. look

  1698. holy

  1699. and

  1700. cover

  1701. up

  1702. personal

  1703. evil

  1704. God

  1705. abhors

  1706. it

  1707. if

  1708. you're

  1709. a

  1710. Christian

  1711. business

  1712. person

  1713. and

  1714. you

  1715. use

  1716. the

  1717. fact

  1718. that

  1719. you're

  1720. a

  1721. Christian

  1722. to

  1723. overcharge

  1724. other

  1725. Christians

  1726. God

  1727. abhors

  1728. it

  1729. if

  1730. you

  1731. go

  1732. to

  1733. a

  1734. Christian

  1735. and

  1736. say

  1737. because

  1738. you're

  1739. a

  1740. Christian

  1741. you

  1742. should

  1743. charge

  1744. me

  1745. less

  1746. money

  1747. God

  1748. abhors

  1749. it

  1750. there

  1751. is

  1752. a

  1753. business

  1754. person

  1755. who

  1756. advertises

  1757. on

  1758. Christian

  1759. radio

  1760. and

  1761. I

  1762. know

  1763. for

  1764. a

  1765. fact

  1766. that

  1767. they

  1768. overcharge

  1769. by

  1770. somewhere

  1771. between

  1772. 20

  1773. to

  1774. 60

  1775. percent

  1776. I

  1777. can

  1778. hardly

  1779. in fact

  1780. I

  1781. often

  1782. turn

  1783. the

  1784. radio

  1785. off

  1786. because

  1787. it

  1788. so

  1789. bothers

  1790. me

  1791. that

  1792. they

  1793. would

  1794. use

  1795. the

  1796. fact

  1797. that

  1798. they're

  1799. Christians

  1800. to

  1801. advertise

  1802. on

  1803. Christian

  1804. radio

  1805. and

  1806. fool

  1807. people

  1808. into

  1809. thinking

  1810. they're

  1811. getting

  1812. a

  1813. bargain

  1814. when

  1815. they

  1816. overcharge

  1817. by

  1818. 20

  1819. to

  1820. 60

  1821. percent

  1822. for

  1823. the

  1824. same

  1825. service

  1826. done

  1827. complete

  1828. secular

  1829. person

  1830. God

  1831. abhors

  1832. this

  1833. if

  1834. we're

  1835. caught

  1836. up

  1837. with

  1838. this

  1839. we

  1840. need

  1841. to

  1842. repent

  1843. that's

  1844. what

  1845. Jesus

  1846. is

  1847. showing

  1848. in

  1849. this

  1850. not

  1851. only

  1852. is

  1853. he

  1854. showing

  1855. his

  1856. strength

  1857. he's

  1858. showing

  1859. something

  1860. of

  1861. his

  1862. heart

  1863. remember

  1864. those

  1865. of

  1866. you

  1867. were

  1868. here

  1869. last

  1870. week

  1871. when

  1872. Zacchaeus

  1873. becomes

  1874. a

  1875. Christian

  1876. what

  1877. when

  1878. he

  1879. becomes

  1880. a

  1881. follower

  1882. of

  1883. Jesus

  1884. when

  1885. he's

  1886. gripped

  1887. by

  1888. the

  1889. gospel

  1890. what

  1891. is

  1892. it

  1893. that

  1894. how

  1895. is

  1896. it

  1897. that

  1898. three

  1899. characteristics

  1900. he

  1901. moves

  1902. to

  1903. become

  1904. honest

  1905. he

  1906. moves

  1907. to

  1908. become

  1909. just

  1910. and

  1911. he

  1912. moves

  1913. to

  1914. become

  1915. generous

  1916. it

  1917. would

  1918. be

  1919. very

  1920. good

  1921. if

  1922. we

  1923. sought

  1924. out

  1925. a

  1926. Christian

  1927. whatever

  1928. it

  1929. is

  1930. lawyer

  1931. singer

  1932. real

  1933. estate

  1934. agent

  1935. because

  1936. we

  1937. think

  1938. as

  1939. a

  1940. follower

  1941. of

  1942. Jesus

  1943. they're

  1944. going

  1945. to be

  1946. honest

  1947. and

  1948. they're

  1949. going

  1950. to be

  1951. just

  1952. so

  1953. I

  1954. can

  1955. trust

  1956. them

  1957. but

  1958. the gospel

  1959. grips

  1960. us

  1961. not

  1962. so

  1963. we

  1964. can

  1965. rip

  1966. off

  1967. other

  1968. Christians

  1969. and

  1970. wrap

  1971. ourselves

  1972. in

  1973. holiness

  1974. but

  1975. the

  1976. gospel

  1977. moves

  1978. us

  1979. to

  1980. generosity

  1981. to

  1982. honesty

  1983. and

  1984. to

  1985. being

  1986. just

  1987. and

  1988. there's

  1989. one other

  1990. thing

  1991. here

  1992. just

  1993. before

  1994. we

  1995. wrap

  1996. up

  1997. the

  1998. whole

  1999. sermon

  2000. back

  2001. when

  2002. I

  2003. was

  2004. still

  2005. part

  2006. of

  2007. the

  2008. Anglican

  2009. Church

  2010. of

  2011. Canada

  2012. people

  2013. used

  2014. to

  2015. call

  2016. me

  2017. a

  2018. fundamentalist

  2019. in

  2020. fact

  2021. I

  2022. don't

  2023. want

  2024. to

  2025. insult

  2026. you

  2027. but

  2028. they

  2029. would

  2030. probably

  2031. call

  2032. almost

  2033. all of

  2034. you

  2035. here

  2036. fundamentalists

  2037. and

  2038. one of

  2039. the

  2040. reasons

  2041. that

  2042. I

  2043. was

  2044. a

  2045. fundamentalist

  2046. is

  2047. because

  2048. I

  2049. would

  2050. ask

  2051. the

  2052. question

  2053. what

  2054. does

  2055. the

  2056. Bible

  2057. say

  2058. and

  2059. sometimes

  2060. in

  2061. the

  2062. point

  2063. I

  2064. would

  2065. quote

  2066. the

  2067. Bible

  2068. and

  2069. that

  2070. is

  2071. for

  2072. many

  2073. people

  2074. in

  2075. Christendom

  2076. a

  2077. sign

  2078. of

  2079. flagrant

  2080. fundamentalism

  2081. but

  2082. notice

  2083. here

  2084. again

  2085. in

  2086. the

  2087. Bible

  2088. when

  2089. Jesus

  2090. is

  2091. driving

  2092. out

  2093. these

  2094. people

  2095. in

  2096. verse

  2097. 46

  2098. he

  2099. says

  2100. it

  2101. is

  2102. written

  2103. what

  2104. does

  2105. that

  2106. mean

  2107. this

  2108. is

  2109. what

  2110. the

  2111. Bible

  2112. says

  2113. and

  2114. because

  2115. the

  2116. Bible

  2117. says

  2118. it

  2119. it's

  2120. authoritative

  2121. and we

  2122. should

  2123. do

  2124. it

  2125. and

  2126. then

  2127. he

  2128. quotes

  2129. Isaiah

  2130. 56

  2131. and

  2132. here's

  2133. the

  2134. thing

  2135. Jesus

  2136. knows

  2137. and

  2138. quotes

  2139. and

  2140. believes

  2141. the

  2142. Bible

  2143. his

  2144. followers

  2145. should

  2146. also

  2147. desire

  2148. to

  2149. know

  2150. and

  2151. quote

  2152. and

  2153. believe

  2154. the

  2155. Bible

  2156. and

  2157. if

  2158. people

  2159. insult

  2160. you

  2161. by

  2162. calling

  2163. you

  2164. a

  2165. fundamentalist

  2166. say

  2167. I'm

  2168. not

  2169. opposed

  2170. to

  2171. learning

  2172. I'm

  2173. not

  2174. opposed

  2175. to

  2176. asking

  2177. questions

  2178. but

  2179. Jesus

  2180. took

  2181. my

  2182. punishment

  2183. and my

  2184. sin

  2185. upon

  2186. him

  2187. I've

  2188. entrusted

  2189. my

  2190. life

  2191. to

  2192. him

  2193. and

  2194. I

  2195. want

  2196. to

  2197. follow

  2198. him

  2199. and

  2200. he

  2201. quoted

  2202. the

  2203. Bible

  2204. and

  2205. he

  2206. knew

  2207. the

  2208. Bible

  2209. and

  2210. he

  2211. believed

  2212. the

  2213. Bible

  2214. and

  2215. that's

  2216. what

  2217. I'm

  2218. trying

  2219. to

  2220. do

  2221. it's

  2222. not

  2223. rocket

  2224. science

  2225. it's

  2226. humility

  2227. Jesus

  2228. knows

  2229. and

  2230. quotes

  2231. and

  2232. believes

  2233. the

  2234. Bible

  2235. his

  2236. followers

  2237. should

  2238. also

  2239. desire

  2240. to

  2241. know

  2242. and

  2243. quote

  2244. and

  2245. believe

  2246. the

  2247. Bible

  2248. so

  2249. what's

  2250. the

  2251. big

  2252. picture

  2253. just

  2254. as

  2255. I'm

  2256. going to

  2257. ask

  2258. you've

  2259. seen

  2260. the

  2261. weeping

  2262. before

  2263. the

  2264. entry

  2265. you've

  2266. seen

  2267. the

  2268. cleansing

  2269. you hear

  2270. the

  2271. cross

  2272. you see

  2273. that

  2274. all this

  2275. is doing

  2276. is creating

  2277. enemies

  2278. of Jesus

  2279. and

  2280. Andrew

  2281. if you

  2282. could

  2283. put

  2284. the

  2285. final

  2286. point

  2287. up

  2288. weeping

  2289. the

  2290. living

  2291. God

  2292. respects

  2293. my

  2294. freedom

  2295. to

  2296. refuse

  2297. him

  2298. in

  2299. costly

  2300. love

  2301. and

  2302. powerful

  2303. grace

  2304. the

  2305. living

  2306. God

  2307. provides

  2308. Jesus

  2309. death

  2310. upon

  2311. the

  2312. cross

  2313. as

  2314. the

  2315. power

  2316. of

  2317. salvation

  2318. which

  2319. we

  2320. receive

  2321. by

  2322. penitent

  2323. faith

  2324. this

  2325. story

  2326. is a

  2327. profound

  2328. these

  2329. sets

  2330. of

  2331. texts

  2332. are

  2333. a

  2334. profound

  2335. witness

  2336. of the

  2337. great

  2338. respect

  2339. that

  2340. God

  2341. has

  2342. even

  2343. for

  2344. those

  2345. who

  2346. with

  2347. their

  2348. dying

  2349. breath

  2350. resist

  2351. him

  2352. refuse

  2353. him

  2354. rage

  2355. against

  2356. him

  2357. and

  2358. hate

  2359. him

  2360. he

  2361. weeps

  2362. and

  2363. respects

  2364. our

  2365. freedom

  2366. but

  2367. he's

  2368. not

  2369. just

  2370. still

  2371. like

  2372. water

  2373. he

  2374. sends

  2375. his

  2376. son

  2377. upon

  2378. the

  2379. cross

  2380. to be

  2381. that

  2382. power

  2383. of

  2384. God

  2385. for

  2386. salvation

  2387. and his

  2388. hope

  2389. and his

  2390. yearning

  2391. is

  2392. that

  2393. we

  2394. will

  2395. receive

  2396. Jesus

  2397. and what

  2398. he's

  2399. done

  2400. for

  2401. us

  2402. on

  2403. the

  2404. cross

  2405. and

  2406. follow

  2407. him

  2408. as

  2409. our

  2410. savior

  2411. and

  2412. Lord

  2413. in

  2414. weeping

  2415. the

  2416. living

  2417. God

  2418. respects

  2419. my

  2420. freedom

  2421. to

  2422. refuse

  2423. him

  2424. in

  2425. costly

  2426. love

  2427. and

  2428. powerful

  2429. grace

  2430. the

  2431. living

  2432. God

  2433. provides

  2434. Jesus

  2435. his

  2436. death

  2437. upon

  2438. the

  2439. cross

  2440. as

  2441. the

  2442. power

  2443. of

  2444. salvation

  2445. which

  2446. we

  2447. receive

  2448. by

  2449. penitent

  2450. faith

  2451. please

  2452. stand

  2453. you know

2454. there's never a better day than at times like this if you've never given yourself to Jesus

2455. there's never a better time than today to recommit yourself to Jesus

2456. there's never a better time to ask that Jesus that you would be a disciple a follower of Jesus that you would be gripped by the gospel and that you would begin to live for his glory that you would turn away from using God to keep him at a distance or to have power over others that you would start to be so gripped by the gospel that Jesus would free your heart up and rescue your heart and heal your heart and heal your heart to move

  2457. towards just

2458. gripped by the gospel to be gripped by the gospel to be gripped by the gospel to be gripped by the gospel who live for your glory in this we ask in Jesus name amen
