  1. Good morning, welcome everybody. It's great to be able to welcome you for another chance to share God's Word together, to worship together digitally.

  2. Let me just say again, there's a chance to join with us again at half five this evening.

  3. We'll be on YouTube and also you can connect on Zoom and you'll get the details for that on the email or check Galvanto or the website.

  4. The one other really important thing for us as a church that's going on in this coming week is that we have five days of prayer.

  5. We desperately need prayer, don't we? We need God, we need his mercy, we need his power, we need his wisdom,

  6. we need his compassion and goodness for ourselves, for our communities, our families, our nation, our world.

  7. So Monday to Friday of this week, eight o'clock in the morning, eight o'clock in the evening,

  8. there'll be a chance to Zoom in if you want to join a larger group.

  9. There's prayer resources that have gone out.

  10. I also encourage you to use it in your family or by yourself as we call on God and seek his help.

  11. Let's worship together.

  12. Our call to worship comes from Isaiah chapter 43, words of comfort and hope and encouragement to the exiles

    Isaiah 43 chapter mention

  13. that I hope speak comfort to our hearts as well.

  14. Isaiah 43 at the beginning.

  15. But now, this is what the Lord says.

  16. He who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel, do not fear, for I have redeemed you.

  17. I have summoned you by name.

  18. You are mine.

  19. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.

  20. And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

  21. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.

  22. The flames will not set you ablaze, for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.

  23. And now let's sing together the hymn, How Firm a Foundation.

  24. Now, let's read together.

  25. Let's read some verses from Matthew chapter 8.

    Matthew 8 chapter mention

  26. Matthew chapter 8, and we're going to read from verse 18.

    Matthew 8 chapter mention

  27. When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.

  28. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.

  29. Jesus replied, Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.

  30. Another disciple said to him, Lord, first let me go and bury my father.

  31. But Jesus told him, follow me and let the dead bury their own dead.

  32. Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.

  33. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake so that the waves swept over the boat.

  34. But Jesus was sleeping.

  35. The disciples went and woke him, saying, Lord, save us.

  36. We're going to drown.

  37. He replied, You of little faith, why are you so afraid?

  38. Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

  39. The men were amazed and asked, What kind of man is this?

  40. Even the winds and the waves obey him.

  41. When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,

  42. two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him.

  43. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.

  44. What do you want with us, Son of God?

  45. They shouted, Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?

  46. Some distance from them, a large herd of pigs was feeding.

  47. The demons begged Jesus, If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.

  48. He said to them, Go.

  49. So they came out and went into the pigs,

  50. and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

  51. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this,

  52. including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.

  53. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus,

  54. and when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.

  55. Amen.

  56. We're going to focus our attention on those words that we find in verses 23 and 27.

  57. As we think about what is faith, let's begin with a statement.

  58. Here's our statement.

  59. In the storms of life, faith cries out to the storm defeating Jesus.

  60. That's what I hope we'll see as we look at this text.

  61. So we begin as our story begins in the storms of life.

  62. The setting for this story is the Lake of Galilee, sometimes known as the Sea of Galilee,

  63. some 700 feet below sea level, with cliffs, steep cliffs all around,

  64. so that winds would come down and would whistle around,

  65. and storms would be swept up really quickly.

  66. Doesn't that serve for us, in a sense, as a picture of life?

  67. Things can be going along quite fine,

  68. and then unexpected storms come,

  69. and they threaten to overwhelm us.

  70. Coronavirus seems like one of those storms,

  71. with so many waves crashing in at once.

  72. For some, it is family grief and trauma.

  73. Trauma for families,

  74. and trauma for those who are looking to care and help.

  75. There is strain on families,

  76. strain on our finances,

  77. strain on our emotional well-being,

  78. and on our faith.

  79. There are the waves of uncertainty and fear

  80. that keep crashing as we look to a future,

  81. and we have no idea what the new normal is going to be.

  82. A quick glance at some of the news reports from the BBC,

  83. it tells us that 25% of Scottish doctors

  84. are reporting some kind of mental health issue

  85. as they cope with coronavirus.

  86. 25% of our nation's wages are being paid by the government.

  87. 80% of our visitor attractions are threatened with closure

  88. because of prolonged lockdown.

  89. The university sector is looking at losses

  90. of somewhere in the region of £500 million.

  91. And we are seeing care home tragedy after tragedy.

  92. And this is not just true collectively.

  93. These storms don't just come nationally.

  94. We understand that this happens in our personal stories as well.

  95. Some of you will have had that experience

  96. of receiving a shocking cancer diagnosis, perhaps,

  97. when you had no symptoms.

  98. Relationships that seem to be going well

  99. that suddenly come to an end.

  100. Redundancies and lost opportunities

  101. coming as a bolt out of the blue.

  102. Maybe this sailing trip

  103. could be a snapshot of our life right now.

  104. More than that,

  105. we can understand this sailing trip

  106. as a picture of discipleship,

  107. as a picture of life following Jesus.

  108. I just want you to notice

  109. as we read verse 23 and 24 again,

  110. Jesus got into the boat

  111. and his disciples followed him.

  112. That's a discipleship word,

  113. a following word.

  114. Suddenly,

  115. a furious storm came up on the lakes

  116. that the waves swept over the boat.

  117. Following Jesus

  118. does not make us immune

  119. from suffering.

  120. Following Jesus

  121. does not mean life will be

  122. plain sailing.

  123. Rather,

  124. following Jesus

  125. presents us with two realities.

  126. One,

  127. we will know suffering

  128. and trouble

  129. because we live in a broken world

  130. and we see pain all around us.

  131. And that comes to us too.

  132. But we also

  133. know peace

  134. when we know Jesus.

  135. Jesus,

  136. the one who said,

  137. I am with you always.

  138. Jesus who said,

  139. I have overcome

  140. the world.

  141. One other thing

  142. to recognize

  143. about these storms

  144. that come into our lives

  145. is that they can function for us

  146. as a mirror.

  147. They can reveal to us

  148. where our trust

  149. lies.

  150. If we can cast

  151. our minds back,

  152. and it seems hard to do

  153. in some ways,

  154. take our minds back

  155. to before

  156. the virus,

  157. perhaps we were

  158. quite content

  159. in trusting

  160. to our resources

  161. and natural abilities

  162. to get us through life.

  163. and it's maybe

  164. only now

  165. we're beginning

  166. to discover our limits.

  167. Maybe like many,

  168. we were trusting

  169. in our wealth

  170. and our technology

  171. to be a shelter

  172. for us.

  173. and now we feel

  174. dangerously exposed.

  175. Perhaps we were trusting

  176. in what we knew

  177. about God

  178. when the only thing

  179. that matters

  180. is trusting in the God

  181. that we know.

  182. Here's what I want

  183. for us today.

  184. I want it

  185. that you and I

  186. would see

  187. that when all is said

  188. and done,

  189. we should trust

  190. Jesus.

  191. In the storms of life,

  192. faith

  193. cries out.

  194. As people,

  195. we are born

  196. with an instinct.

  197. We have

  198. a new

  199. baby

  200. that's due

  201. to my brother

  202. and his wife

  203. coming any time

  204. in the next

  205. couple of weeks.

  206. And when that baby

  207. is born,

  208. as we pray

  209. it will be healthy,

  210. we know what babies do.

  211. When they need help,

  212. when they need

  213. attention,

  214. when they need food,

  215. they will instinctively

  216. cry out.

  217. That's true

  218. when we are children.

  219. If you need help,

  220. if you're in trouble,

  221. if you're afraid,

  222. it's natural,

  223. it's instinctive

  224. to cry,

  225. help me

  226. to parents.

  227. But that instinct,

  228. it never leaves us.

  229. There is a reminder

  230. to us constantly

  231. of our

  232. dependence.

  233. There will be

  234. different times

  235. in our lives

  236. where we are

  237. asking someone,

  238. save me,

  239. help me.

  240. Today and in the

  241. last few weeks,

  242. we have become

  243. as a nation

  244. increasingly grateful

  245. to our NHS,

  246. to our frontline

  247. workers,

  248. to our key workers,

  249. because we recognise,

  250. wow,

  251. we desperately

  252. need their help.

  253. We desperately

  254. need the service

  255. that they so lovingly

  256. and helpfully

  257. provide for us.

  258. We have found

  259. ourselves,

  260. maybe for the first

  261. time,

  262. looking to our

  263. government leaders

  264. for help

  265. in how to

  266. navigate

  267. through

  268. these

  269. circumstances.

  270. circumstances.

  271. But the question

  272. we ask

  273. when storms

  274. hit

  275. by instinct

  276. is,

  277. who or what

  278. do I believe

  279. will get me

  280. through this

  281. trouble?

  282. Where should I

  283. place my

  284. trust?

  285. Who or what

  286. will I

  287. ask,

  288. help me,

  289. save me?

  290. And the Gospel

  291. of Matthew

  292. and indeed

  293. all the Gospels

  294. and the whole

  295. Bible

  296. would have us

  297. to see

  298. ultimately

  299. at the end

  300. of the day

  301. Jesus is

  302. the only

  303. proper object

  304. for your

  305. faith.

  306. He is the

  307. only one,

  308. the only

  309. thing that

  310. will not

  311. disappoint,

  312. that will

  313. not leave

  314. you.

  315. He would

  316. have us

  317. to grow

  318. in our

  319. trust

  320. of Jesus

  321. and to

  322. act out

  323. of

  324. that trust

  325. in

  326. Jesus.

  327. this kind

  328. of faith,

  329. this faith

  330. that cries

  331. out,

  332. it requires

  333. us to

  334. know

  335. certain

  336. things

  337. about

  338. our

  339. God.

  340. So

  341. hopefully

  342. if you're

  343. in our

  344. church you

  345. know that

  346. we're

  347. learning

  348. a new

  349. song.

  350. Boys and

  351. girls,

  352. I hope

  353. it's a

  354. song that

  355. you'll

  356. be able

  357. to really

  358. enjoy

  359. from

  360. Colin

  361. Buchanan

  362. along with

  363. City of

  364. Light.

  365. It's

  366. called

  367. Jesus

  368. Strong

  369. and Kind.

  370. And for

  371. our boys

  372. and girls

  373. this is

  374. a truth

  375. that we

  376. would love

  377. for you

  378. to learn

  379. early in

  380. your life,

  381. to go

  382. through all

  383. your life

  384. knowing that

  385. whether life

  386. is easier,

  387. whether life

  388. is hard,

  389. you would

  390. know you

  391. could trust

  392. in Jesus,

  393. you can

  394. always run

  395. to Jesus,

  396. you can

  397. pray to

  398. him because

  399. he is

  400. strong and

  401. he is

  402. kind.

  403. God,

  404. Jesus is

  405. the son of

  406. God,

  407. he is

  408. God,

  409. God is

  410. your creator,

  411. God is

  412. the sustainer

  413. of life and

  414. God in

  415. Jesus is

  416. your only

  417. saviour and

  418. Jesus is

  419. compassionate and

  420. good and

  421. kind as we

  422. see all

  423. through the

  424. gospels.

  425. So the

  426. disciples in

  427. the boat,

  428. in the storm,

  429. they come to

  430. Jesus with

  431. urgency.

  432. Verse 25,

  433. the disciples

  434. went and

  435. woke him

  436. saying,

  437. Lord,

  438. save us,

  439. we're going

  440. to drown.

  441. This is no

  442. carefully rehearsed

  443. speech,

  444. this is coming

  445. at a point

  446. of desperation

  447. and urgency

  448. and honesty.

  449. Here are

  450. some of

  451. them seasoned

  452. fishermen,

  453. they know

  454. they're in

  455. a storm

  456. that's beyond

  457. their capacity

  458. to cope

  459. with and

  460. it's outside

  461. of their

  462. control and

  463. so they

  464. ask Jesus

  465. to rescue.

  466. They say,

  467. Jesus,

  468. help me.

  469. Gripped

  470. by fear,

  471. faith cries

  472. out,

  473. Lord,

  474. you are

  475. my only

  476. hope in

  477. life and

  478. death.

  479. Will you

  480. save me?

  481. Will you

  482. help me?

  483. Will you

  484. be for

  485. me?

  486. Here is

  487. the disciples

  488. in their

  489. cry of

  490. faith.

  491. Yes,

  492. Jesus says

  493. they have

  494. little

  495. faith.

  496. Their faith

  497. is weak

  498. and it

  499. needs to

  500. grow,

  501. but still

  502. it is

  503. faith.

  504. And these

  505. fearful men

  506. who are

  507. also men

  508. of faith,

  509. what is it

  510. that they

  511. discover?

  512. And by

  513. the end

  514. they're

  515. amazed at

  516. Jesus.

  517. As Don

  518. Carson

  519. puts it,

  520. they discover

  521. Jesus is

  522. far more

  523. wonderful than

  524. even these

  525. closest followers

  526. suspect.

  527. So they

  528. cry out,

  529. not even

  530. fully confident

  531. of what kind

  532. of answer

  533. they're going

  534. to get,

  535. but they

  536. get this

  537. wonderful

  538. answer.

  539. But faith

  540. cries out.

  541. Last week

  542. I was

  543. listening to

  544. an interview

  545. of a

  546. Christian

  547. minister

  548. with

  549. terminal

  550. cancer.

  551. And he

  552. was talking

  553. about having

  554. received that

  555. diagnosis and

  556. going through

  557. the treatment

  558. process as

  559. being a time

  560. where his

  561. faith became,

  562. and his

  563. praying rather,

  564. became real.

  565. Where there

  566. was a new

  567. honesty.

  568. Gone was

  569. any sort of

  570. pretense or

  571. show,

  572. now was

  573. raw,

  574. honest,

  575. before God,

  576. his Father.

  577. Psalm 62

  578. in verse

  579. 8 encourages

  580. us to

  581. pour out

  582. your hearts

  583. to him,

  584. for God

  585. is your

  586. refuge.

  587. God knows

  588. everything

  589. about us.

  590. There is no

  591. point in us

  592. putting on a

  593. mask.

  594. God knows

  595. how you

  596. feel today.

  597. He knows

  598. your fears

  599. today.

  600. So be

  601. honest with

  602. him.

  603. Pray to

  604. him out of

  605. that place of

  606. honesty and

  607. desperation if

  608. that's where

  609. you are.

  610. Again,

  611. Colin

  612. Buchanan,

  613. the children's

  614. songwriters,

  615. they stop

  616. what you're

  617. doing and

  618. pray to

  619. Jesus.

  620. That's

  621. wisdom,

  622. not just

  623. for children,

  624. that's

  625. wisdom for

  626. all of

  627. us.

  628. Stop and

  629. recognise who

  630. is on the

  631. throne,

  632. recognise his

  633. goodness and

  634. love that

  635. is for

  636. you.

  637. Lean on

  638. that,

  639. cry out to

  640. him in

  641. faith.

  642. Notice in

  643. verse 26

  644. that Jesus

  645. doesn't object

  646. to their

  647. cries.

  648. He replied,

  649. you have

  650. little faith,

  651. why are

  652. you so

  653. afraid?

  654. He wants

  655. their little

  656. faith to

  657. become

  658. stronger.

  659. Ultimately,

  660. Jesus would

  661. have faith

  662. in him to

  663. drive out

  664. paralysing

  665. fear.

  666. Matthew and

  667. all the other

  668. gospel writers,

  669. they are

  670. honest about

  671. the disciples.

  672. These followers

  673. of Jesus,

  674. just like us,

  675. they're on a

  676. journey,

  677. they're on a

  678. journey of

  679. faith and

  680. that faith

  681. would grow

  682. and that

  683. faith would

  684. grow as

  685. they would

  686. come to

  687. see more

  688. and more

  689. of the

  690. identity of

  691. Jesus.

  692. As they

  693. would understand

  694. more and

  695. more of

  696. Jesus as

  697. the son of

  698. God who

  699. would come

  700. to be the

  701. saviour.

  702. So here

  703. they're about

  704. to see Jesus

  705. has power and

  706. authority over

  707. nature.

  708. He has power

  709. and authority

  710. to save.

  711. He can deal

  712. with the

  713. forces that

  714. come against

  715. his people

  716. and threaten

  717. to overwhelm

  718. and later

  719. later they

  720. will see

  721. how Jesus

  722. has come

  723. to rescue

  724. from sin

  725. and judgment.

  726. Jesus is

  727. sitting with

  728. them in a

  729. storm so

  730. that in the

  731. fullness of

  732. time he

  733. would go to

  734. the cross

  735. and he would

  736. defeat their

  737. greatest enemies,

  738. your greatest

  739. enemy.

  740. Sin that leads

  741. to death,

  742. that leads to

  743. eternal separation

  744. from God.

  745. Jesus will

  746. rescue and

  747. the disciples

  748. will come to

  749. discover as

  750. they see

  751. Jesus three

  752. days later

  753. risen from

  754. the dead that

  755. there is life

  756. and there is

  757. victory in

  758. the death and

  759. resurrection of

  760. Jesus.

  761. Faith cries

  762. out and the

  763. more that we

  764. know of our

  765. God and the

  766. more we can

  767. trust him and

  768. cry out to

  769. him.

  770. So just

  771. before we

  772. leave this

  773. remember that

  774. there's that

  775. week of

  776. prayer coming

  777. up and I

  778. hope we all

  779. see that we

  780. need prayer

  781. don't we?

  782. Our family and

  783. our friends

  784. they need our

  785. prayers, they

  786. need the

  787. prayers of the

  788. church, our

  789. nation needs

  790. for the people

  791. of faith to

  792. cry out for

  793. God's help,

  794. God's mercy

  795. and God's

  796. compassion.

  797. So will you

  798. join with

  799. us in the

  800. storms of

  801. life?

  802. Faith cries

  803. out to the

  804. storm defeating

  805. Jesus.

  806. Boys and

  807. girls, I

  808. know that

  809. some of you

  810. are enjoying

  811. different aspects

  812. of homeschool

  813. and some

  814. aspects not so

  815. much but maybe

  816. you're all

  817. enjoying bits

  818. of science.

  819. Well here's a

  820. little bath time

  821. experiment for

  822. you and let

  823. me just

  824. apologise to

  825. parents for

  826. the suggestion

  827. but fill a

  828. bath and make

  829. that bath a

  830. stormy sea and

  831. I know that

  832. you know how

  833. to make a

  834. stormy sea in

  835. a bathtub.

  836. And then after

  837. a point when

  838. it's all really

  839. churned up,

  840. stop splashing

  841. and see how

  842. long it takes

  843. for the water

  844. to grow calm.

  845. You see even

  846. in a little

  847. bathtub it will

  848. take a while

  849. for those waves

  850. to halt.

  851. But here in

  852. our Bible we

  853. have this amazing

  854. demonstration of

  855. the authority

  856. of Jesus.

  857. Listen to

  858. verse 26

  859. again.

  860. So having said

  861. to his disciples

  862. you of little

  863. faith why

  864. are you so

  865. afraid?

  866. Then he

  867. got up and

  868. rebuked the

  869. winds and the

  870. waves and it

  871. was completely

  872. calm.

  873. Here is first

  874. of all a

  875. simple rebuke

  876. as if Jesus

  877. was a parent

  878. talking to

  879. the storm as

  880. a child.

  881. You need to

  882. stop that.

  883. And this whirlwind

  884. storm ceases and

  885. there's instant

  886. flat calm.

  887. There's power.

  888. In ancient

  889. cultures and we

  890. see this in the

  891. Psalms as well,

  892. the sea was

  893. regarded as an

  894. uncontrollable

  895. force except

  896. by God.

  897. God alone could

  898. control the

  899. storms.

  900. Psalm 107 is

  901. really helpful

  902. here.

  903. In verse 23

  904. onwards we

  905. discover God

  906. spoke and

  907. stirred up a

  908. tempest and

  909. God stilled the

  910. storm to a

  911. whisper.

  912. What's happening

  913. here?

  914. What's the point

  915. that the

  916. disciples are

  917. beginning to

  918. discover and

  919. are amazed

  920. by?

  921. Jesus has

  922. power over a

  923. storm.

  924. Therefore

  925. Jesus is

  926. God.

  927. Notice he

  928. doesn't appeal

  929. to a higher

  930. authority because

  931. Jesus is

  932. ultimate

  933. authority.

  934. So these

  935. disciples who

  936. are amazed and

  937. terrified by the

  938. power of the

  939. storm,

  940. verse 27,

  941. they're amazed

  942. and ask,

  943. what kind of

  944. man is this?

  945. Even the wind

  946. and the waves

  947. obey him.

  948. they're more

  949. amazed by the

  950. greater power of

  951. Jesus over the

  952. storm.

  953. There is this

  954. profound contrast.

  955. There's the

  956. powerful and

  957. majestic Jesus

  958. and there's

  959. powerless

  960. disciples.

  961. And what they

  962. need is to be

  963. connected to the

  964. power of Jesus,

  965. their Lord.

  966. And do you know

  967. that's true for us

  968. in every situation?

  969. Our faith is to

  970. live daily in

  971. humble dependence.

  972. Sometimes we can

  973. sort of get into

  974. that state where

  975. life is just sort

  976. of trundling along

  977. and we think we've

  978. got it covered.

  979. And then there's a

  980. bump in the road

  981. or a storm comes

  982. and we cry out.

  983. We are not just

  984. to call Jesus

  985. in a storm.

  986. Jesus, I need

  987. your help.

  988. But in everyday

  989. life, we are

  990. to acknowledge

  991. that in

  992. everything we do

  993. as we seek to

  994. live for God,

  995. we need Jesus

  996. and his power

  997. and his love

  998. and his grace

  999. for us.

  1000. So the

  1001. disciples see

  1002. and we see

  1003. an all-powerful

  1004. Jesus and that's

  1005. who they cry out

  1006. to.

  1007. That's good news.

  1008. But remember

  1009. too, in verse

  1010. 24, a detail

  1011. that's perhaps a

  1012. bit surprising.

  1013. So we discover

  1014. the furious storm

  1015. comes and the

  1016. waves are sweeping

  1017. over the boat

  1018. but what's Jesus

  1019. doing?

  1020. Jesus was

  1021. sleeping.

  1022. We see

  1023. resting Jesus.

  1024. Now what's

  1025. significant about

  1026. this detail?

  1027. Well, on the one

  1028. hand, it reminds

  1029. us that Jesus,

  1030. the Son of God,

  1031. became one of us.

  1032. and he gets

  1033. tired, he gets

  1034. exhausted from

  1035. his work of

  1036. teaching and

  1037. healing.

  1038. And also,

  1039. it reminds us

  1040. that Jesus

  1041. knows suffering

  1042. by experience.

  1043. He is able

  1044. to sympathise.

  1045. He's not

  1046. distant,

  1047. remote,

  1048. disconnected.

  1049. our God

  1050. knows

  1051. because Jesus

  1052. experienced

  1053. suffering.

  1054. But this

  1055. rest also

  1056. reminds us

  1057. that Jesus

  1058. is in

  1059. control.

  1060. John's

  1061. Gospel has

  1062. Jesus saying

  1063. a lot,

  1064. talking a lot

  1065. about his

  1066. hour,

  1067. his hour

  1068. which had

  1069. not come

  1070. and then his

  1071. hour which

  1072. had come.

  1073. That hour

  1074. that Jesus

  1075. talked about

  1076. was the

  1077. time of

  1078. his suffering

  1079. and death

  1080. before his

  1081. resurrection

  1082. and return

  1083. to the glory

  1084. of heaven.

  1085. That was

  1086. all his

  1087. hour.

  1088. Jesus

  1089. knows this

  1090. is not

  1091. his time

  1092. to die.

  1093. No storm

  1094. is going

  1095. to get

  1096. in the

  1097. way of

  1098. God's

  1099. eternal

  1100. plan to

  1101. save

  1102. sinners

  1103. through the

  1104. death of

  1105. his own

  1106. son on

  1107. the cross.

  1108. So there

  1109. is comfort

  1110. for us

  1111. here.

  1112. The

  1113. saviour

  1114. that we

  1115. cry to

  1116. is a

  1117. saviour

  1118. that has

  1119. been through

  1120. storms.

  1121. And a

  1122. saviour

  1123. that has

  1124. power and

  1125. love to

  1126. keep you

  1127. in yours.

  1128. And even

  1129. more

  1130. remarkable

  1131. than that,

  1132. Jesus,

  1133. as we read

  1134. on in the

  1135. gospel,

  1136. will face

  1137. another storm,

  1138. this time not

  1139. with his

  1140. disciples,

  1141. but for

  1142. his

  1143. disciples.

  1144. There is

  1145. one storm

  1146. that Jesus

  1147. goes through

  1148. for his

  1149. followers.

  1150. and that

  1151. is the

  1152. storm that

  1153. we see

  1154. at the

  1155. cross,

  1156. the storm

  1157. of God's

  1158. eternal

  1159. justice

  1160. against

  1161. sin,

  1162. falling on

  1163. Jesus.

  1164. Jesus is

  1165. thrown into

  1166. that storm.

  1167. He throws

  1168. himself into

  1169. that storm,

  1170. that one

  1171. storm that

  1172. could overwhelm

  1173. us all.

  1174. Jesus takes

  1175. our sin,

  1176. takes the

  1177. just anger

  1178. of God

  1179. against that

  1180. sin,

  1181. and he

  1182. comes through

  1183. the other

  1184. side.

  1185. So that

  1186. if your

  1187. faith is

  1188. in Jesus,

  1189. that is the

  1190. one storm

  1191. that will

  1192. never come

  1193. your way.

  1194. there,

  1195. when you

  1196. look at

  1197. the cross,

  1198. you can

  1199. know

  1200. God loves

  1201. me.

  1202. God will

  1203. not abandon

  1204. me.

  1205. God is

  1206. extending to

  1207. me security

  1208. for now

  1209. and for

  1210. eternity

  1211. because

  1212. Jesus

  1213. defeated

  1214. that storm.

  1215. Jesus

  1216. entered

  1217. that storm

  1218. for you

  1219. and for

  1220. me

  1221. to bring

  1222. us

  1223. peace.

  1224. So in

  1225. the storms

  1226. of your

  1227. life,

  1228. cry out

  1229. in faith

  1230. to the

  1231. storm

  1232. defeating

  1233. Jesus.

  1234. Tim Keller,

  1235. the New

  1236. York

  1237. minister,

  1238. puts it

  1239. this way,

  1240. if Jesus

  1241. is Lord

  1242. of the

  1243. storm,

  1244. then no

  1245. matter what

  1246. shape our

  1247. world is

  1248. in,

  1249. or your

  1250. life is

  1251. in,

  1252. you will

  1253. find Jesus

  1254. provides all

  1255. the rest,

  1256. all the

  1257. power you

  1258. could possibly

  1259. want.

  1260. So when it

  1261. comes to

  1262. this virus,

  1263. when it

  1264. comes to

  1265. any other

  1266. storm in

  1267. our lives,

  1268. we won't

  1269. always know

  1270. what he

  1271. is doing.

  1272. We won't

  1273. always know

  1274. why.

  1275. We won't

  1276. always understand

  1277. his timing,

  1278. but we do

  1279. not need to

  1280. be overwhelmed

  1281. by fear.

  1282. we can

  1283. trust in

  1284. Jesus.

  1285. We can

  1286. cry out

  1287. to him.

  1288. We can

  1289. know that

  1290. he will

  1291. not

  1292. abandon

  1293. us.

  1294. I

  1295. hy
