  1. Good evening and welcome again to Church Online.

  2. Can I just say, personally, thanks so much to people who have been in touch to encourage,

  3. to say that they're praying, to say that they're appreciating the content.

  4. It's really helpful when you're speaking into the ether to remember that we are a community, we are family.

  5. Let me take the chance as well.

  6. I've said it a little bit, but just to say thank you so much to Kellan,

  7. whose music ministry and also his work on YouTube has been such a gift to us.

  8. As a church, we're so fortunate to have both his gift and his willingness to serve in the middle of his own busy schedule.

  9. So thanks to Kellan and thanks as well to Sarah, our administrator.

  10. The gift of administration is so useful and valuable to a church.

  11. And maybe never more so than in times like this and keeping us connected.

  12. So thank you to Sarah.

  13. Thanks to everybody who tunes in, who connects.

  14. It's really encouraging that we can be together around God's word.

  15. And to that end, let's begin our call to worship.

  16. It comes from Lamentations.

  17. Lamentations, a lament of the prophet Jeremiah.

  18. Things were incredibly hard in his experience.

  19. And yet there are words of hope.

  20. Wonderful words.

  21. Lamentations 3 at verse 22.

  22. Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed.

  23. For his compassions never fail.

  24. They are new every morning.

  25. Great is your faithfulness.

  26. I say to myself, the Lord is my portion.

  27. Therefore, I will wait for him.

  28. Let's wait on God with expectation now as we gather together that he would speak truth to our hearts and lives.

  29. That he would do us good as we sing, as we pray, as we hear God's word, as we reflect on it.

  30. Let's hear God's word.

  31. Let's read in Daniel chapter 1.

    Daniel 1 chapter mention

  32. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

  33. And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God.

  34. These he carried off to the temple of his God in Babylonia and put in the treasure house of his God.

  35. Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king's service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility.

  36. Young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand and qualified to serve in the king's palace.

  37. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.

  38. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king's table.

  39. They were to be trained for three years and after that they were to enter the king's service.

  40. Among those who were chosen were some from Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

  41. The chief official gave them new names.

  42. To Daniel, the name Belteshazzar.

  43. To Hananiah, Shadrach.

  44. To Mishael, Mishael.

  45. And to Azariah, Abednego.

  46. But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself in this way.

  47. Now God had caused the official to show favour and compassion to Daniel.

  48. But the official told Daniel,

  49. I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink.

  50. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age?

  51. Then the king would have my head because of you.

  52. Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

  53. Please test your servants for ten days.

  54. Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.

  55. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.

  56. So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

  57. At the end of the ten days, they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the other young men who ate the royal food.

  58. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

  59. To these four young men, God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning.

  60. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.

  61. At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service,

  62. the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.

  63. The king talked with them and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

  64. So they entered the king's service.

  65. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them,

  66. he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

  67. And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.

  68. Amen.

  69. Thank you both.

  70. Now, if you've got your Bibles, keep them open.

  71. Daniel, chapter 1.

    Daniel 1 chapter mention

  72. Last week we did an overview.

  73. This week getting into the main text of chapter 1.

  74. And our big idea is resolving to trust the God who rules.

  75. Daniel is a book that begins when everything turns upside down.

  76. Daniel and his three friends as teenagers are flung into unimaginable change.

  77. Taken away from their family to a foreign country.

  78. Exposed to a new language.

  79. A radically different culture.

  80. Now working for an emperor as part of an empire that has just attacked and defeated their whole nation.

  81. Surrounded by a different religion full of other idols.

  82. Experiencing a different diet.

  83. And all the while, they're part of a nation facing exile.

  84. Facing the judgment of God.

  85. That's some significant change, isn't it?

  86. What we see in the Daniel story, and it comes to mind because we recently studied the Joseph story, is the parallels.

  87. Remember Joseph as a teenager?

  88. He was taken a prisoner to Egypt and he spent the rest of his life there.

  89. Well here, Daniel will spend the next around about 70 years serving four different emperors in Babylon.

  90. So the story of Daniel is a story of national grief and national shock as exile has come.

  91. And the question for the people in Daniel's day then was, how can we be restored?

  92. And Daniel and his friends serve for them as a model to imitate.

  93. Restoration would come when the people would return to serve the Lord.

  94. When they would resist and reject idolatry.

  95. And when they wouldn't compromise their faith.

  96. Now Daniel's situation is not our situation.

  97. But of course we recognise that our upheaval is still real and significant and life-altering.

  98. And he is at the same time a model for us.

  99. Daniel chapter 1 says to us,

    Daniel 1 chapter mention

  100. Resolve to trust.

  101. Resolve to follow the one true God who rules.

  102. So let's see that together.

  103. The story begins starkly.

  104. Because it reminds us that God rules in judgment.

  105. You can read again verse 1.

  106. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon,

  107. came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

  108. So this sets the scene for us.

  109. Incidentally, knowing that some of you like museums and artefacts,

  110. you can go online to the British Museum and you can search their database.

  111. And if you look for the Babylonian Chronicle,

  112. you'll find stone tablets that have been really helpful for dating the rule of Nebuchadnezzar,

  113. which have helped people to set what happens here at the time of 605 BC.

  114. So this is stage one of the fall of Jerusalem.

  115. But the significant question that the Bible would have us answer is,

  116. why did this happen?

  117. And when we read the Bible and we read the history of the Bible,

  118. we discover that biblical history is at the same time the theology of history.

  119. It looks to show where God stands in relation to world events.

  120. So verse 2 begins,

  121. And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hands.

  122. This is not an accident.

  123. This is not down to the aggressive expansion plans of the Babylonian Empire.

  124. No, the judgment of God has come on Judah through Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon.

  125. And the reason for that is because of the people's covenant disobedience.

  126. This is something they had been warned about from the beginning as the people of God.

  127. But there were some particular warnings in the build-up to this.

  128. So in 2 Kings chapter 20, we meet Hezekiah.

    2 Kings 20 chapter mention

  129. Hezekiah, a good king, but he made an unwise choice in showing the treasury to the Babylonians,

  130. hoping to forge an alliance or relying on an alliance with Babylon,

  131. which was folly rather than depending on God.

  132. And then the message of Jeremiah,

  133. which gave warning after warning to the people against following false gods,

  134. against turning from God's truth,

  135. against their spiritual adultery,

  136. where they were breaking off from being faithful to God

  137. and were being unfaithful,

  138. where they were guilty of great injustice.

  139. So if you can imagine the picture,

  140. the storm clouds have been gathering.

  141. And what happens when storm clouds begin to gather?

  142. Our instinct is to find shelter.

  143. But the people of Judah,

  144. they did not take shelter from the storm of God's judgment that was threatening.

  145. There was no repentance.

  146. You read a chapter like Leviticus 26,

  147. and you see that God in His patience would give warning after warning after warning to the people.

  148. And those warnings would be ignored,

  149. progressively ramping up the pain and the suffering they would feel,

  150. but still there would be no turning back to God.

  151. Our story,

  152. the story of Daniel,

  153. begins with that warning becoming reality.

  154. To reject covenant with God

  155. is to receive God's judgment

  156. and not God's blessing.

  157. For the exiles,

  158. the message is clear.

  159. Your response to this crisis must be

  160. to repent of your sin,

  161. of your idolatry,

  162. of your compromise,

  163. and to return to the one true God.

  164. And when we read stories like this,

  165. there is no room for us to have complacency.

  166. The Bible speaks of the day of the Lord,

  167. which is coming,

  168. the day of the Lord's judgment.

  169. When Jesus returns,

  170. He will judge the living and the dead.

  171. And for us,

  172. knowing that as reality,

  173. we are to find shelter

  174. in Jesus Christ,

  175. in His cross,

  176. in His finished work,

  177. of Him taking the storm of God's judgment against sin

  178. on Himself

  179. so that we might be spared,

  180. so that we might know blessing.

  181. So here in verse 2,

  182. we see God delivers.

  183. God delivers His people.

  184. God delivers the articles used for worship in the temple,

  185. and they are taken off by their enemies

  186. and put in pagan temples.

  187. But still,

  188. in this chapter,

  189. we see glimpses of hope.

  190. Just like in Eli's day,

  191. Eli who came before Samuel,

  192. when the ark was captured in his day

  193. and was taken to the temple of the god Dagon,

  194. what happened there

  195. was a wonderful,

  196. both comedy and the power of God.

  197. Here's the ark of God,

  198. and Dagon was,

  199. believed to have defeated

  200. and shown himself superior to the god of Israel.

  201. But morning after morning,

  202. when the people would arrive in the temple,

  203. there was Dagon's statue

  204. smashed on the ground in front of the ark.

  205. Here,

  206. God gains glory in foreign lands,

  207. and God will gain glory in exile.

  208. Here,

  209. God will gain glory

  210. through Daniel and his three friends.

  211. Through their story,

  212. the rule of God will become evident.

  213. The glory of God will be apparent.

  214. God's deliverance will take centre stage,

  215. even as they are exiles living in a foreign land.

  216. So there is judgment,

  217. but even then,

  218. there is hope.

  219. For you and I today,

  220. there is encouragement for us

  221. to trust in Jesus,

  222. the one who is God with us.

  223. To trust to that new covenant

  224. established in the body and blood of Jesus.

  225. To trust that he is with us

  226. when everything is upside down.

  227. To trust that God is able to gain glory

  228. in the middle of suffering and trouble.

  229. It's an encouragement to us

  230. to trust that God rules for the good of his people.

  231. We may not know why God is doing what he is doing,

  232. but we can trust that he is working out his good purposes,

  233. saving purposes for his people and for his glory.

  234. So God rules in judgment.

  235. And we'll turn to the rule of God at the end of the chapter.

  236. But in between,

  237. we meet Daniel and his friends.

  238. And what we see from Daniel in particular

  239. is that he resolves to trust in God.

  240. And he does that despite huge cultural pressure.

  241. You begin to read verse three to seven

  242. and you see some of that.

  243. So those that were taken to serve in the king's palace,

  244. they were to be taught in the language

  245. and literature of the Babylonians.

  246. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine.

  247. They were to be trained for three years.

  248. And the chief official gave them new names.

  249. There's a lot going on.

  250. Nebuchadnezzar as a king had what we might call

  251. a shock and awe approach to warfare.

  252. The shock of a devastating conquest.

  253. Nations submitting to his rule and power.

  254. But then the awe as he sought to dazzle the brightest

  255. and the best with Babylonian wealth and culture

  256. to make them effectively Babylonians.

  257. So for our four teenagers,

  258. there are significant cultural pressures

  259. that they are facing.

  260. First of all, there's the mention of the language

  261. and literature of Babylon.

  262. Now, this is not the equivalent of,

  263. you know, here's your book of Shakespeare in Babylonian.

  264. Now, Babylonian stories and culture

  265. was full of stories of the gods.

  266. Many gods.

  267. Not all gods were equal.

  268. Lots of warfare among the gods.

  269. Gods that were connected with nature.

  270. So Daniel and his three friends,

  271. they needed to have a strong faith,

  272. a strong understanding of the truths about God

  273. so that they would be able to discern

  274. what was true and false

  275. as they engaged with the culture of Babylon.

  276. They needed wisdom and they needed truth.

  277. In verse five,

  278. they enjoyed the king's luxuries for three years.

  279. Here was their taste of success.

  280. As it were, if we stick in with this king,

  281. the idea was, well,

  282. wealth and prestige and honour will be ours.

  283. Where will the loyalty go?

  284. And we'll come back to that.

  285. And they were given new names.

  286. They wouldn't be spoken to

  287. and identified as people of Israel's God.

  288. Rather, they were given names

  289. connected to Babylon's gods and culture.

  290. Nebuchadnezzar's aim,

  291. establish new identities,

  292. establish new loyalties.

  293. Let the influence of the glory of Babylon

  294. pull people away from their ordinary

  295. and previous allegiance.

  296. Some of our American friends,

  297. I guess, will be familiar with the idea

  298. of pledging allegiance to the flag.

  299. We'll hear for Daniel and his friends,

  300. the pressure is on to pledge allegiance

  301. allegiance to the flag of Babylon.

  302. With no family support,

  303. with no temple to go to,

  304. with no Bible to read,

  305. with no limits from a religious community around them,

  306. how will they work hard and work well

  307. and honour the emperor

  308. but maintain their loyalty and devotion to God?

  309. That's a real challenge.

  310. That'd be a real challenge for any of us,

  311. never mind for a teenager.

  312. I guess it makes us ask some questions of ourselves.

  313. Do I have a biblical worldview that is strong?

  314. That as I look and read and watch

  315. what's happening in culture,

  316. read the novels, watch the movies,

  317. can I see what is true and what is false?

  318. Can I see what would agree with God's view of the world

  319. and identity and values

  320. and what is opposed to them?

  321. Daniel had his particular pressure points in his day.

  322. What are my pressure points and what are yours?

  323. What behaviours or beliefs

  324. do my friends and my colleagues hold to

  325. that don't match up to

  326. what the Bible teaches

  327. but where we're being pulled in that direction?

  328. Fundamentally,

  329. does knowing Jesus define me?

  330. Is that vital to who I am,

  331. how I think of myself,

  332. how I live

  333. or is it an optional extra?

  334. I can leave aside

  335. if it doesn't seem convenient for the moment.

  336. Like Daniel,

  337. if we're Christians,

  338. if we're trusting in Jesus,

  339. we're citizens of heaven

  340. but we're living in Babylon

  341. and so we need much wisdom

  342. and much resolve

  343. to trust in God in that context

  344. with all those pressures around us.

  345. what we're going to see very clearly

  346. is that Daniel resolves to put loyalty to God first.

  347. And it all centres around verse 8, doesn't it?

  348. In verse 8 we read,

  349. So what's this about?

  350. And again,

  351. you can read

  352. lots of different opinions

  353. about this.

  354. So some people will say,

  355. well perhaps the food was sacrificed to idols,

  356. perhaps it didn't have the blood drained,

  357. perhaps it wasn't kosher.

  358. I'm not persuaded

  359. by that

  360. because

  361. later on in Daniel,

  362. Daniel chapter 2,

    Daniel 2 chapter mention

  363. we read,

  364. at that time,

  365. this is many years later,

  366. 60 or so years later,

  367. I, Daniel,

  368. mourned for three weeks.

  369. I ate no choice food,

  370. no meat or wine

  371. touched my lips.

  372. So three weeks of fasting

  373. from choice food,

  374. meats or wine.

  375. Still in Babylon.

  376. So what I think

  377. is happening here

  378. is that Daniel

  379. is taking a stand

  380. to say

  381. my first allegiance

  382. is to God.

  383. In the ancient Near East,

  384. to share a meal

  385. with someone

  386. was a commitment

  387. to friendship.

  388. And in a sense,

  389. all this luxury

  390. was Nebuchadnezzar

  391. looking to

  392. secure friendship

  393. and loyalty

  394. from those

  395. who were now

  396. in his service.

  397. Daniel and his three friends

  398. say no

  399. because they want freedom

  400. to be loyal

  401. and to trust

  402. in God.

  403. So what they choose

  404. instead,

  405. verse 12,

  406. very simple test,

  407. very simple diet.

  408. Please test your servants

  409. for 10 days.

  410. Give us nothing

  411. but vegetables

  412. to eat

  413. and water

  414. to drink.

  415. They want to eat

  416. what God provides.

  417. They want to express

  418. dependence

  419. on God,

  420. the creator.

  421. And of course,

  422. what's the outcome

  423. of that 10-day diet?

  424. Verse 15,

  425. they looked healthier

  426. and better nourished

  427. than any of the young men

  428. who ate the royal food.

  429. This is not

  430. an advert for vegetarianism.

  431. This is

  432. an advertisement

  433. for God's glory

  434. and God delivering

  435. and God honouring

  436. his faithful followers.

  437. If covenant disobedience

  438. has brought the people

  439. under God's curse

  440. and judgment,

  441. then obedience

  442. is bringing blessing

  443. and favour.

  444. Now when we think

  445. about this for a moment,

  446. this was a costly

  447. resolve,

  448. wasn't it?

  449. We might imagine

  450. some people

  451. around Daniel

  452. saying,

  453. but Daniel,

  454. you're risking

  455. missing

  456. important opportunities.

  457. you need to stick

  458. in with the king.

  459. Don't stand out

  460. as being different

  461. or awkward.

  462. Just eat the food.

  463. You can still honour

  464. God in your heart.

  465. Look around Daniel,

  466. it's no big deal.

  467. Other exiles

  468. are doing it.

  469. But Daniel

  470. and his friends,

  471. they resolve

  472. to trust in God,

  473. to express their

  474. dependence

  475. and loyalty

  476. to God.

  477. And again,

  478. it's important

  479. for us to ask

  480. ourselves,

  481. do I have

  482. the resolve

  483. to put loyalty

  484. to God first?

  485. Now we will see

  486. in the story

  487. of Daniel

  488. and his friends

  489. that it's tested

  490. in much more

  491. significant ways.

  492. Can I put God

  493. first in the

  494. little moments

  495. and

  496. in the big decisions?

  497. when it comes

  498. to family,

  499. perhaps our

  500. house feels

  501. absolutely

  502. chaotic

  503. right now.

  504. Can you and I

  505. put loyalty

  506. to God

  507. first

  508. so that we

  509. want to

  510. obey God's

  511. commands

  512. and to be wise

  513. as parents

  514. and wise

  515. as children

  516. and to respond

  517. and live

  518. for the glory

  519. of God?

  520. When it comes

  521. to our work

  522. and to our

  523. studies,

  524. are we resolving

  525. to put loyalty

  526. to God

  527. first so that

  528. we work with

  529. integrity

  530. and honour,

  531. that we show

  532. compassion and

  533. care to those

  534. around us,

  535. that we make

  536. time for them,

  537. that we speak

  538. truth and we

  539. speak only

  540. what is kind?

  541. With our

  542. finances,

  543. do we

  544. consider

  545. that we

  546. are stewards

  547. of God's

  548. money and

  549. we are to

  550. use it in

  551. ways that

  552. will love

  553. and serve

  554. others?

  555. Crucial

  556. for us

  557. in resolving

  558. to trust

  559. in God

  560. is that

  561. we see

  562. the glory

  563. of God,

  564. that we

  565. see that

  566. glory as

  567. our great

  568. treasure,

  569. that above

  570. all else,

  571. we would

  572. value his

  573. welcome

  574. and friendship,

  575. that we

  576. would live

  577. for his

  578. well done,

  579. good and

  580. faithful

  581. servant.

  582. Back to

  583. the rule

  584. of God

  585. at the end

  586. of the

  587. chapter,

  588. God rules

  589. in mercy

  590. and salvation.

  591. Again,

  592. there are

  593. Joseph parallels

  594. in this

  595. chapter.

  596. In verse

  597. 9,

  598. did you

  599. notice that

  600. God had

  601. caused the

  602. official to

  603. show favour

  604. and compassion

  605. to Daniel?

  606. Same thing

  607. happens in

  608. Potiphar's house

  609. and even when

  610. he's in

  611. prison with

  612. Joseph.

  613. And then

  614. in verse

  615. 17,

  616. to these

  617. four young

  618. men,

  619. God gave

  620. knowledge and

  621. understanding

  622. of all kinds

  623. of literature

  624. and learning

  625. and Daniel

  626. could understand

  627. visions and

  628. dreams of

  629. all kinds.

  630. God gave

  631. knowledge,

  632. he gave

  633. gifts,

  634. including

  635. visions,

  636. just like

  637. with Joseph.

  638. And Daniel,

  639. just like

  640. Joseph,

  641. would come

  642. to find

  643. a high

  644. place in

  645. a foreign

  646. court.

  647. God raises

  648. Daniel and

  649. his friends

  650. because they

  651. are vehicles

  652. for bringing

  653. glory to

  654. God.

  655. God will

  656. have glory

  657. in Babylon.

  658. God will

  659. deliver his

  660. faithful people.

  661. God will

  662. cause enemy

  663. kings to

  664. recognise the

  665. supremacy of

  666. the God

  667. of the

  668. Bible.

  669. I really

  670. appreciate in

  671. verse 19

  672. the simple

  673. fact that

  674. it says

  675. there,

  676. the king

  677. talked with

  678. them and

  679. he found

  680. none equal

  681. to Daniel,

  682. Hananiah,

  683. Mishael and

  684. Azariah.

  685. So they

  686. entered the

  687. king's service.

  688. They're not

  689. Belteshazzar,

  690. they're not

  691. Shandrach,

  692. Mishach and

  693. Abednego.

  694. Shakespeare,

  695. asked what's

  696. in a name.

  697. For

  698. Daniel's

  699. friends,

  700. there's a

  701. lot.

  702. They answer

  703. to their

  704. Babylonian

  705. names,

  706. absolutely.

  707. But in

  708. their hearts,

  709. they belong

  710. to God.

  711. They keep

  712. their identity

  713. as the

  714. people of

  715. God.

  716. Here, in

  717. a sense,

  718. is the key

  719. to surviving

  720. and thriving

  721. in lockdown.

  722. Here is the

  723. key to

  724. enduring with

  725. joy,

  726. enduring

  727. suffering.

  728. Here is how

  729. to live

  730. well when

  731. the world,

  732. our world

  733. turns upside

  734. down.

  735. It's to

  736. know who

  737. you are in

  738. Christ and

  739. to live out

  740. our identity

  741. as a child

  742. of God,

  743. trusting in

  744. our good,

  745. good father.

  746. But above

  747. all else,

  748. when we

  749. recognise that

  750. our resolve

  751. fails,

  752. we see

  753. Daniel as

  754. a man of

  755. resolute faith,

  756. but what about

  757. when our

  758. faith fails?

  759. And sometimes

  760. we know this,

  761. we fail

  762. miserably,

  763. we let

  764. ourselves down,

  765. we let

  766. others down,

  767. and above

  768. all,

  769. we let

  770. God down.

  771. And we

  772. don't want

  773. the message

  774. to simply

  775. be,

  776. work really

  777. hard to

  778. try and

  779. be like

  780. Daniel,

  781. use your

  782. own courage,

  783. use your

  784. own strength,

  785. and be

  786. steadfast.

  787. that's not

  788. what we

  789. say first

  790. and foremost,

  791. we say

  792. we must

  793. look to

  794. Jesus,

  795. who is

  796. our

  797. greater

  798. than

  799. Daniel.

  800. Jesus

  801. left

  802. home,

  803. Jesus

  804. perfectly

  805. resisted

  806. every

  807. temptation

  808. that came

  809. his way,

  810. Jesus

  811. was

  812. absolutely

  813. loyal

  814. and

  815. obedient

  816. to his

  817. father and

  818. pursuing

  819. his

  820. father's

  821. glory,

  822. trusting

  823. in his

  824. father's

  825. plan,

  826. even as

  827. it took

  828. him to

  829. the cross

  830. where he

  831. would die

  832. in our

  833. place for

  834. our sins

  835. to secure

  836. our forgiveness

  837. and bring

  838. us peace

  839. with God.

  840. He died

  841. to establish

  842. the new

  843. covenant

  844. and now

  845. he's in

  846. glory and

  847. he prays

  848. for us.

  849. Jesus

  850. is our

  851. way

  852. home.

  853. In the

  854. letter of

  855. Peter,

  856. he describes

  857. Christians

  858. as

  859. exiles.

  860. This is

  861. not our

  862. home.

  863. Glory

  864. is our

  865. home.

  866. Heaven

  867. is our

  868. home.

  869. Being

  870. with God

  871. is where

  872. we belong.

  873. Jesus

  874. is the

  875. way to

  876. God and

  877. where Jesus

  878. is now

  879. in glory

  880. we will

  881. follow.

  882. But while

  883. we are

  884. in exile,

  885. Jesus

  886. as he

  887. prays for

  888. us,

  889. as he

  890. sends his

  891. spirit to

  892. us,

  893. as he

  894. speaks in

  895. his word,

  896. he provides

  897. guidance and

  898. strength for

  899. us in

  900. exile as

  901. exiles so

  902. that our

  903. faith and

  904. dependence will

  905. endure even,

  906. even when the

  907. world turns

  908. upside down.

  909. peace.
