  1. a bible and you can turn to John chapter 4 but you'll also find the words up on the screen.

    John 4 chapter mention

  2. We're going to read from verse 39 to the end of the chapter. Many of the Samaritans from that town

  3. believed in Jesus because of the woman's testimony. He told me everything I've ever done.

  4. So when the Samaritans came to him they urged him to stay with them and he stayed two days

  5. and because of his words many more became believers. They said to the woman we no longer believe

  6. just because of what you said. Now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is

  7. the saviour of the world. After the two days he left for Galilee. Now Jesus himself had pointed out that

  8. a prophet has no honour in his own country. When he arrived in Galilee the Galileans welcomed him.

  9. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover festival for they also had been there.

  10. Once more he visited Cana in Galilee where he had turned the water into wine and there was a certain

  11. royal official whose son lay ill at Capernaum. When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee

  12. from Judea he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son who is close to death.

  13. Unless you people see signs and wonders Jesus told him you will never believe. The royal official said

  14. sir come down before my child dies. Go Jesus replied your son will live. The man took Jesus at his word

  15. and departed. While he was still on the way his servants met him with the news that his boy was

  16. living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better they said to him yesterday at one in the

  17. afternoon the fever left him. Then the father realised that this was the exact time at which Jesus had

  18. said to him your son will live. So he and his whole household believed. This was the second sign

  19. Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee. So this is the third of seven signs that John

  20. records. The healing of the royal official's son. Can we read the signs and respond in the right way

  21. is a question that sometimes becomes really important. If like me you've ever been bewildered

  22. by foreign road signs like the time I drove up a Belgian bike lane. Sorry about that Belgium.

  23. Or if you try and decipher those Japanese washing care labels or if you're on a building site and there

  24. are all kinds of safety guidelines. It's important that we can read the signs and respond in the right

  25. way. And if that's important for everyday life it's certainly crucial when it comes to John's gospel.

  26. John in chapter 20 in verse 31 he says these signs, so the seven signs that he has recorded, these signs

  27. are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing

  28. you may have life in his name you may have life in his name. So the signs of John are pointers to

  29. the identity of Jesus. He wants to make it clear that Jesus isn't just a good man, good teacher, wise

  30. or a healer or some political figure. Jesus is the Messiah, God's promised Saviour and that he is the Son of God.

  31. And that he's come on a mission. He's come on a mission to bring life. Life for all who will believe in him,

  32. who will trust in him. And as such it always calls for response.

  33. Today's story is set against a backdrop. On the one hand there are groups of people who are believing

  34. as Samaritans and then also the backdrop of rejection or failing to recognise the Saviour among the Jewish

  35. people themselves. And against that backdrop there is this personal story. Here is a royal official

  36. with a personal crisis, with a family crisis. Can we imagine how he would feel his son nearing death

  37. with no help and no real hope? How will he in that setting, how will he read the signs about Jesus

  38. and how will he respond? Right now it is clear that we are in a variety of global crises.

  39. Maybe today as you listen in you find yourself in a state of fear. Perhaps uncertainty. Maybe high anxiety and stress.

  40. Perhaps frustrated or angry. I was just plain sad.

  41. In the middle of our crisis, how will we read the signs? How will we respond to the signs?

  42. Will they lead us, will they draw us to Jesus to find healing and to find hope?

  43. So let's begin to look at our story. The first thing we see as Jesus arrives in Galilee is a flawed welcome.

  44. There is a problem in the way that he is welcomed. There's a change of location in verse 43.

  45. After two days he left for Galilee and that change of location brings a change of attitude.

  46. He's just been in Samaria, a place where many Jews wouldn't even go because the Samaritans were regarded as despised half-breeds.

  47. They sort of mix and match religion. So they were hated or they were avoided.

  48. And Jesus goes to a Samaritan town and he meets with and spends time talking with and brings salvation to an immoral woman.

  49. And then following her testimony, a whole town comes to hear and to believe Jesus' words.

  50. These Samaritans see his identity.

  51. So in the woman's own words, as she leaves meeting with Jesus and goes back into her town, she says,

  52. Come see a man who told me everything I've ever done. Could this be the Messiah?

  53. And then the people in the town, we know that this man really is the saviour of the world.

  54. Here in the story of this town, there is a discovery that God's love is like an ocean with no bottom, with no shore.

  55. This mercy that extends to people who are regarded as nothing and nobody, people who are despised.

  56. We see the heart of Jesus, which is moved by need and which moves towards those who are suffering and those who need to know God and his hope.

  57. But now he's come to Galilee. Now he's come to his home territory.

  58. And the emphasis is very much on not the words of Jesus, but what they had seen.

  59. They welcome Jesus because of what they have seen.

  60. They are looking for Jesus to do miracles.

  61. That's where their interest seems to begin and end.

  62. Not in his words, not in his identity.

  63. They want miracles.

  64. It's also important, and John really wants to flag this up for us,

  65. that this is taking place, verse 46, in Cana in Galilee.

  66. So Jesus' first sign in Cana, now his third sign in Cana,

  67. they create bookends to this whole section from John chapter 2 to the end of John chapter 4,

John 2 chapter mention John 4 chapter mention

  68. with the temple clearing in the middle.

  69. So what do these signs, as we put them together, what do they teach us about Jesus?

  70. Jesus turned water into wine to keep a wedding celebration going,

  71. to show that he brings joy, that he brings grace,

  72. that he is the true bridegroom who ultimately is going to lay down his life,

  73. whose blood will be the wine that creates for lasting eternal joy.

  74. Then there's the temple clearing.

  75. And Jesus identifies himself as the true temple.

  76. He is the way to God, to meet with God.

  77. He's the new centre of worship.

  78. And now here in this third sign, we're going to see him,

  79. in this healing brain, restoration and life.

  80. So the Samaritans see and believe the words of Jesus,

  81. that he is the Messiah, that he's the saviour that God had promised,

  82. but that the Jews in that section are largely failing to see,

  83. and some are beginning to be resistant to Jesus.

  84. So there's responses.

  85. And so straight away, the question then becomes, well, how are we responding?

  86. And one thing that becomes clear in this passage is that a superficial welcome of Jesus is not enough.

  87. The people in Galilee, they wanted Jesus for what he could give.

  88. Maybe get some people healed, maybe do something wonderful.

  89. Maybe today we find ourselves thinking,

  90. if I had Jesus, he could maybe give me a bit of peace, which I need right now.

  91. Or I could get my life back.

  92. And so we pray for a while, or we have that sense of looking for Jesus, for what we can get.

  93. In a way, sometimes we can treat Jesus like,

  94. perhaps if there's a friend that we know who has skills or who has access,

  95. sometimes we maybe use that person for what they can supply,

  96. in which case we're not really being true friends at all.

  97. John's gospel is saying to us, we need to receive Jesus for who he is,

  98. to welcome him as the saviour that we need.

  99. Nothing else will suffice.

  100. So their welcome is flawed.

  101. But into that, we see Jesus as a merciful saviour.

  102. So we're back in Cana, and we're back in a family situation.

  103. But this is a totally different family story.

  104. So the first time he was in Cana, it was a family wedding celebration.

  105. And Jesus keeps the feast going and provides true joy.

  106. Well, here's a very different story.

  107. Here's a dad who's desperately concerned for his second dying child.

  108. But again, there's another sign that transforms a family.

  109. As we'll see, he transforms a family, not just for now, but for eternity.

  110. So we meet a royal official in verse 47,

  111. who hears that Jesus has come back,

  112. and he goes and he begs Jesus to come and heal his son.

  113. Now, what's clear is the royal official is coming with desperation.

  114. He's coming with desperate faith.

  115. It's not clear how much he knows about Jesus.

  116. The other Gospels make clear that miracles were part of Jesus' public life from the very beginning.

  117. He was giving windows into God's kingdom,

  118. that he's about restoration and about life and pushing back the forces of darkness.

  119. Perhaps he has seen some of these miracles.

  120. Perhaps he's heard the reports.

  121. There's the news spread of this one who is doing miracles.

  122. Could he be the Messiah?

  123. But we don't know.

  124. But what we do know is that however much he has heard about Jesus,

  125. it leads him to act.

  126. I wonder today, have you begun to see who Jesus truly is?

  127. Have you begun to see that with his power and with his truth,

  128. that he is the Son of God?

  129. And have you begun to see why he came?

  130. That he is responding to our need, to our lostness,

  131. to the fact that spiritually we are dead because of our sin,

  132. separated from the one relationship that matters above all,

  133. our relationship with God.

  134. And Jesus has come to be a saviour, to die on the cross,

  135. to go there, to take the punishment for sin,

  136. to give us forgiveness and eternal life.

  137. Have you begun to see that?

  138. Or do you recognise that?

  139. And the question is, will you act on that?

  140. We need to understand it's not how much we know that counts.

  141. It's all about who we know.

  142. It's not about how strong our faith is.

  143. It's about who our faith is in.

  144. So this royal official, he gives us an example to follow.

  145. With however much he knows, he comes to Jesus in faith.

  146. And we see in this, in his experience,

  147. just how merciful Jesus is,

  148. how willing to save and to restore Jesus is.

  149. So on the one hand, he can point out the flaw

  150. in the welcome he's received in Galilee.

  151. So in verse 48,

  152. unless you people see signs and wonders,

  153. Jesus told him,

  154. you will never believe.

  155. Unlike the Samaritan who believe in the words of Jesus,

  156. unless you see signs and wonders,

  157. you will never believe.

  158. But what happens next?

  159. Jesus in mercy and compassion gives a sign

  160. so that the man will believe.

  161. So the royal official said again,

  162. come down before my child dies.

  163. Jesus says, go, your son will live.

  164. And the man discovers the child was healed

  165. at the very moment that Jesus uttered those words.

  166. And so one group, the Samaritans,

  167. they believe simply because of the words of Jesus.

  168. This royal official, he needs extra assurance.

  169. And Jesus in mercy,

  170. Jesus with a gentle heart,

  171. gives that assurance.

  172. So we're getting an insight into the heart of Jesus

  173. for sinners and sufferers

  174. as we think about this sign.

  175. We read at the beginning,

  176. that invitation from Jesus,

  177. come to me if you're weak,

  178. come to me if you're burdened,

  179. and I will give you rest.

  180. There's no qualifications on that.

  181. And he tells us why we can come with confidence

  182. it's because he is gentle

  183. and he is humble in heart.

  184. In just a couple of chapters,

  185. in John chapter 6 and verse 37,

    John 6 chapter mention

  186. Jesus will say,

  187. whoever comes to me,

  188. I will never drive away.

  189. I will certainly welcome

  190. whoever comes to me with faith,

  191. whoever recognises me as saviour,

  192. whoever reaches out,

  193. cries out,

  194. I will come

  195. and I will never send them away.

  196. Do you see

  197. the welcoming heart of Jesus?

  198. Do you hear him

  199. inviting you

  200. to come to him?

  201. To invite him in

  202. to your life,

  203. into your circumstances,

  204. to give you hope,

  205. to give you peace,

  206. to give you a future.

  207. In chapters 2 to 4,

  208. we get a wonderful picture

  209. of the mercy of Jesus.

  210. Who are the people that

  211. respond with faith?

  212. Who are those that Jesus moves towards?

  213. Those facing shame.

  214. The bridegroom of the wedding

  215. who'd failed to provide for his guests.

  216. Facing that public shame,

  217. Jesus steps in.

  218. Those who are facing the injustice

  219. of being denied a place to worship,

  220. Jesus steps in

  221. and clears the temple.

  222. Those whose lives are empty

  223. and who are despised

  224. because of their

  225. moral behaviour,

  226. the women of Samaria.

  227. And now,

  228. this man who is desperate

  229. and in a personal crisis,

  230. all of them

  231. a weak

  232. Jesus

  233. compassion.

  234. Sometimes

  235. I'm not sure

  236. that we understand

  237. or that we can ever understand

  238. just how

  239. deep

  240. the Saviour's love is,

  241. just how

  242. merciful

  243. he is,

  244. that his posture

  245. towards us

  246. is not

  247. finger wagging,

  248. but arms wide open

  249. to welcome

  250. and receive us.

  251. And now that he's in heaven,

  252. now that he's enthroned

  253. in glory,

  254. his heart hasn't changed.

  255. He still

  256. sends that heart

  257. of mercy

  258. to you

  259. to give you hope

  260. today.

  261. And then we see

  262. in response

  263. to Jesus' sign,

  264. a family

  265. who believes.

  266. There's evidence

  267. of faith

  268. in the man.

  269. In verse 50,

  270. John says,

  271. the man

  272. took Jesus

  273. at his word.

  274. There's faith.

  275. Jesus says,

  276. your son

  277. will live.

  278. The man

  279. believes,

  280. takes Jesus

  281. at his word.

  282. When Jesus

  283. says,

  284. whoever

  285. believes in me

  286. will not perish,

  287. but have

  288. eternal life,

  289. we can take

  290. him

  291. at his word.

  292. Whoever

  293. comes to me,

  294. I'll never

  295. drive away.

  296. We can take

  297. him at his word.

  298. I am the way

  299. and the truth

  300. and the life.

  301. No one comes

  302. to their father

  303. except through me.

  304. We can take

  305. him at his word

  306. that if we come

  307. to him,

  308. then we will

  309. come to know

  310. our father

  311. in heaven.

  312. Now,

  313. Jesus

  314. performs this sign,

  315. a powerful

  316. miracle,

  317. healing the boy

  318. at a distance,

  319. backing up

  320. his identity

  321. as saviour

  322. of the world.

  323. The official

  324. has exercised

  325. faith

  326. and his

  327. seeing the sign

  328. led to

  329. believing.

  330. When he's told

  331. the boy was healed

  332. at one in the afternoon,

  333. the father realised

  334. this was the exact

  335. time that Jesus

  336. said your son

  337. will live.

  338. So he

  339. and his whole

  340. household

  341. believed.

  342. that boy

  343. was saved

  344. twice over.

  345. He was healed

  346. physically

  347. but he was also

  348. healed spiritually.

  349. Now he too

  350. is trusting in

  351. Jesus as saviour.

  352. Now he too

  353. has the hope

  354. of eternal

  355. life.

  356. Just a little

  357. reminder for us

  358. if you're listening

  359. in and you're

  360. a Christian

  361. to be praying

  362. for your

  363. family

  364. and to be

  365. praying for

  366. families,

  367. praying for

  368. families in our

  369. church.

  370. that salvation

  371. would come

  372. to whole

  373. households.

  374. Pray for

  375. mums and

  376. dads as

  377. they look

  378. to teach

  379. the Bible

  380. and to

  381. pray for

  382. and with

  383. their children.

  384. Look to

  385. bring them

  386. up in

  387. faith

  388. in challenging

  389. circumstances.

  390. I sometimes

  391. think of

  392. Jonathan Edwards,

  393. a theologian

  394. from a past

  395. century.

  396. He used

  397. to,

  398. I think

  399. daily,

  400. pray for

  401. six future

  402. generations,

  403. praying that

  404. each of

  405. them would

  406. know the

  407. Lord and

  408. would serve

  409. Jesus.

  410. Important to

  411. pray for

  412. families and

  413. households.

  414. But this

  415. royal official,

  416. a wonderful

  417. story,

  418. through his

  419. tears,

  420. through his

  421. pain and

  422. anxiety,

  423. he is able

  424. to read the

  425. signs about

  426. Jesus.

  427. He came to

  428. Jesus in

  429. faith and

  430. he believed.

  431. God,

  432. we are

  433. always being

  434. called to

  435. respond today

  436. to the

  437. Saviour.

  438. The Bible

  439. is very

  440. clear.

  441. There are

  442. only two

  443. ways that

  444. Jesus relates

  445. to us.

  446. Either he

  447. will relate

  448. to us as

  449. our judge

  450. if we

  451. refuse him,

  452. if we

  453. don't allow

  454. him to

  455. deal with

  456. our sin and

  457. to forgive

  458. us, then we

  459. will pay the

  460. penalty.

  461. Jesus will

  462. be the

  463. judge or

  464. Jesus will

  465. relate to

  466. us as a

  467. friend, as

  468. a Saviour,

  469. as our

  470. elder brother,

  471. as the

  472. one who

  473. loves his

  474. church and

  475. who gave

  476. himself for

  477. the church

  478. so that he

  479. might have

  480. the joy of

  481. spending eternity

  482. with his

  483. bride.

  484. His call

  485. has come

  486. to him,

  487. to believe

  488. that he

  489. is for

  490. you and

  491. to respond.

  492. We see

  493. just how

  494. merciful and

  495. how loving

  496. Jesus'

  497. heart is

  498. towards us

  499. most clearly

  500. at the

  501. cross.

  502. Here's the

  503. story of a

  504. son who was

  505. close to death

  506. but there at

  507. the cross

  508. Jesus didn't

  509. just go close

  510. to death,

  511. Jesus tasted

  512. death,

  513. Jesus died

  514. and he

  515. didn't die

  516. for anything

  517. that he

  518. had done

  519. wrong,

  520. he died

  521. in our

  522. place for

  523. our sins.

  524. He didn't

  525. have to do

  526. that in

  527. love,

  528. he chose

  529. to do

  530. that.

  531. Just as

  532. the father

  533. chose it

  534. to send,

  535. the son he

  536. loves to

  537. be our

  538. Saviour,

  539. so Jesus

  540. in love

  541. comes and

  542. he tastes

  543. death and

  544. there God's

  545. just anger

  546. against our

  547. sin falls

  548. not on us

  549. but it's

  550. funnelled

  551. onto him

  552. so that

  553. we might

  554. know love,

  555. we might

  556. know forgiveness,

  557. we might

  558. have joy

  559. in the

  560. family of

  561. God.

  562. That just

  563. as this

  564. family in

  565. our story,

  566. they had

  567. joy as

  568. they welcomed

  569. Jesus into

  570. their life.

  571. So we

  572. can have

  573. joy knowing

  574. his mercy

  575. that runs

  576. deeper than

  577. our circumstances

  578. that is there

  579. for us in

  580. our suffering,

  581. in our sin,

  582. in our sorrow.

  583. When we

  584. think about

  585. signs,

  586. the cross

  587. itself stands

  588. as a blazing

  589. neon sign

  590. showing us

  591. the dazzling

  592. glory of

  593. God's

  594. merciful love

  595. extended to

  596. us in

  597. the coming

  598. of Jesus.

  599. Will you

  600. come to

  601. him for

  602. mercy and

  603. rest today?

  604. God's

  605. love

  606. to

  607. say,

  608. let's

  609. pray once

  610. again

  611. together.

  612. Let's

  613. pray.

  614. Lord God,

  615. we thank

  616. you for

  617. your son

  618. Jesus,

  619. for his

  620. mercy,

  621. and we

  622. thank you

  623. that he

  624. remains

  625. compassionate

  626. while he

  627. sits in

  628. the glory

  629. of heaven,

  630. ruling and

  631. reigning over

  632. all things,

  633. interceding,

  634. praying for

  635. his people,

  636. the church,

  637. and calling

  638. others to

  639. come to

  640. him.

  641. Lord,

  642. we pray

  643. today that

  644. just as we

  645. see in

  646. our story

  647. Jesus'

  648. compassion

  649. for the

  650. sick,

  651. Lord,

  652. we pray

  653. that you

  654. would show

  655. mercy to

  656. those who

  657. are sick

  658. and suffering.

  659. It's some

  660. that we

  661. know in

  662. our families

  663. and in

  664. our friendship

  665. groups and

  666. in our

  667. communities.

  668. Lord,

  669. we pray for

  670. healing and

  671. restoration.

  672. We thank

  673. you for

  674. doctors and

  675. nurses and

  676. care workers.

  677. We ask that

  678. you would

  679. sustain each

  680. one of

  681. them.

  682. Lord,

  683. we thank

  684. you for

  685. your mercy

  686. in the

  687. virus seeming

  688. to be under

  689. a greater

  690. level of

  691. control and

  692. we pray

  693. that that

  694. would continue

  695. in our

  696. own country.

  697. But we

  698. also remember

  699. parts of

  700. the Americas

  701. and parts

  702. of South

  703. Asia where

  704. there is

  705. still a

  706. huge battle

  707. going on,

  708. many lives

  709. being lost,

  710. much trauma,

  711. happening.

  712. And Lord,

  713. we pray

  714. that you

  715. would show

  716. mercy.

  717. Lord,

  718. we pray

  719. for national

  720. recovery as

  721. we turn our

  722. attention to

  723. the future.

  724. We pray for

  725. financial recovery.

  726. We think of

  727. thousands of

  728. people who

  729. have been

  730. made jobless

  731. in the last

  732. week.

  733. Lord,

  734. we ask for

  735. provision.

  736. We pray

  737. for compassion.

  738. We pray for

  739. good solutions

  740. for business

  741. leaders,

  742. for governments,

  743. for employers.

  744. Lord,

  745. we pray for

  746. social recovery.

  747. Having spent

  748. so much time

  749. on our own,

  750. we thank you

  751. for greater

  752. opportunities to

  753. see family and

  754. friends.

  755. We pray that

  756. as a nation

  757. we'd continue

  758. to do that

  759. safely to

  760. avoid any

  761. spiking.

  762. But Lord,

  763. we recognise

  764. maybe in a

  765. more profound

  766. way than ever

  767. before how

  768. important it

  769. is to be

  770. physically

  771. present with

  772. the people

  773. that we

  774. love and

  775. care about.

  776. And so we

  777. pray that you

  778. would bless

  779. us as we

  780. move towards

  781. greater relationship.

  782. Lord,

  783. we pray for a

  784. recovery of

  785. emotional health

  786. because of the

  787. isolation,

  788. because of the

  789. fear,

  790. because of

  791. trauma and

  792. grief that's

  793. been experienced.

  794. Lord,

  795. may you show

  796. great mercy

  797. to us.

  798. May you provide

  799. true and

  800. lasting healing.

  801. recovery.

  802. Lord,

  803. may you provide

  804. spiritual recovery

  805. that in the

  806. middle of this

  807. crisis there

  808. would be a

  809. turning to

  810. yourself,

  811. recognising

  812. that you

  813. and you

  814. alone ultimately

  815. bring lasting

  816. hope,

  817. lasting healing,

  818. and you bring

  819. true life.

  820. Lord,

  821. we pray for the

  822. global church

  823. today.

  824. We thank you

  825. for parts of

  826. the world that

  827. are able to

  828. open up for

  829. worship,

  830. albeit in very

  831. different

  832. circumstances.

  833. We pray that

  834. that would

  835. encourage our

  836. brothers and

  837. sisters in

  838. Christ.

  839. We pray that

  840. they would have

  841. a sense of

  842. joy in being

  843. together.

  844. We pray too

  845. that there would

  846. be joy of

  847. knowing new

  848. people joining

  849. the church.

  850. Thank you for

  851. all those stories

  852. of people in

  853. this time being

  854. led to online

  855. church, being

  856. led to read the

  857. Bible and to

  858. pray, and for

  859. those who have

  860. put their faith

  861. in Jesus.

  862. We pray to see

  863. lasting spiritual

  864. change through

  865. this time.

  866. And we pray in

  867. Jesus' name.

  868. Amen.

  869. Now, let's sing

  870. again.

  871. We're going to

  872. sing from Psalm

  873. 146.

  874. We're going to

  875. sing the first

  876. six verses, and

  877. then we'll sing

  878. the hymn Across

  879. the Land.

  880. Praise the

  881. Lord, my soul,

  882. O praise Him.

  883. I'll extol Him

  884. all my days.

  885. While I live to God,

  886. my Savior, from my heart

  887. I will sing praise.

  888. Do not put your trust

  889. in princes, mortal men

  890. who cannot save.

  891. All their plans will come

  892. to nothing when they perish

  893. in the grave.

  894. Blessed is the one who truly

  895. looks for help to Jacob's God.

  896. Blessed is the one who places

  897. all his hope upon the Lord.

  898. He who made the earth and heaven

  899. and the seas with all their store.

  900. He who keeps his every promise,

  901. who is faithful evermore.

  902. You're the word of God, the Father,

  903. from before the world began.

  904. Every star and every planet

  905. has been fashioned by your hand.

  906. All creation holds together

  907. by the power of your voice.

  908. Let the skies declare your glory.

  909. Let the land and sea rejoice.

  910. You're the author of creation.

  911. You're the Lord of every man.

  912. And your cry of love rings out

  913. across the land.

  914. Yet you left the gaze of angels,

  915. came to seek and save the lost,

  916. and exchanged the joy of heaven

  917. for the anguish of a cross.

  918. With a prayer you fed the hungry,

  919. with a word you come to see.

  920. Yet how silently you suffered

  921. that the guilty may go free.

  922. You're the author of creation.

  923. You're the Lord of every man.

  924. And your cry of love rings out

  925. across the land.

  926. With a shout you rose victorious,

  927. wresting victory from the grave.

  928. And ascended into heaven,

  929. leading captives in your way.

  930. Now you stand before the Father,

  931. interceding for your own.

  932. From each tribe and tongue and nation,

  933. you are leading sinners home.

  934. You're the author of creation.

  935. You're the author of creation.

  936. And your cry of love rings out

  937. across the land.

  938. You're the author of creation.

  939. You're the Lord of every man.

  940. And your cry of love rings out

  941. across the land.

  942. And now let's pray.

  943. Lord God, just as that Samaritan village

  944. said they no longer had to believe

  945. simply because of the words of this lady,

  946. she testified to who she'd met,

  947. that they had come to know for themselves

  948. Jesus as the saviour of the world.

  949. We pray that that would be our own personal experience,

  950. that we would know Jesus as the saviour of the world.

  951. We also pray that you'd help us

  952. to share the message of Jesus with others

  953. so that many around us might have that joy

  954. of knowing Jesus as saviour for themselves.

  955. So we pray that you'd go with us into this new week.

  956. We ask that you'd give us strength

  957. for all the tasks and challenges

  958. and opportunities that lie ahead.

  959. May we be conscious that your mercy

  960. is there for us each step of the way.

  961. Amen.

  962. Now, just to remind you,

  963. if you belong to our church,

  964. especially Digital Tea and Coffee,

  965. as always, is on at 12.

  966. We have Monday prayer at 8.

  967. And the community groups are meeting

  968. to study John's Gospel together.

  969. So hopefully we'll see some of you there

  970. and look forward to sharing with you again soon.

  971. Okay, take care and God bless.

  972. Thank you.
