  1. Father, sometimes we don't know how to explain your word to ourselves, and sometimes we don't

  2. know how to explain your word to others.

  3. We acknowledge before you, Father, that there's a big part of us that is still worried about

  4. getting too close to you, that if we get too close to you, that in some ways you might

  5. make us too weird or too bound, that there's a part of us, Father, that fears you, not in

  6. a biblical sense, but in a fallen way.

  7. And we also understand, Father, that that is a great fear here in this country of Canada

  8. and around the world.

  9. So we ask, Father, that your Holy Spirit would bring your word home to us, and that as your

  10. word is brought home to us, that your word will bring healing to our affections and healing

  11. to our mind and healing to our will and healing to our emotions, Father, so that we will be

  12. disciples of Jesus who are gripped by the gospel, living free for your glory.

  13. And all this we ask in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Savior.

  14. Amen.

  15. Please be seated.

  16. So I don't know how much of Ken's Bible text that you remember.

  17. It had a fair thing to say about freedom.

  18. It's going to be Galatians 5.

  19. We're going to look at it in a moment.

  20. In fact, we're going to read the main verse, Galatians 5.

  21. We're going to read it several times because it's a really important verse.

  22. But here's the thing.

  23. I don't know.

  24. Some of you might have been listening to my prayer.

  25. Some of you were checked out.

  26. That's fine.

  27. But here's the thing.

  28. I don't know how many of you have become Christians as adults or even in your late

  29. teens.

  30. But I think for most Canadians, if you knew in most offices where workplaces or neighborhoods,

  31. if they found out that a 30-year-old or a 25-year-old or an 18-year-old was thinking of becoming a Christian,

  32. they'd wonder why on earth you were doing it.

  33. Because we as Canadians value freedom and being free.

  34. And for most Canadians, to move towards Christianity is to move away from freedom, not towards freedom.

  35. So people might wonder.

  36. They might say, well, you know, it's sort of one thing if you're sort of, I'm going to move this over here.

  37. It's sort of one thing if you're brought up in the church.

  38. You know, you don't know any better.

  39. But gosh, you know, if you've just known what it's like just to live and to be free,

  40. why on earth would anybody, knowing that, willingly move away from freedom towards the Christian faith or towards Jesus?

  41. It's a, I think it's just a very, very common assumption.

  42. Moving towards any type of religion, maybe in our country, actually in an ironic way,

  43. especially Christianity, is a move away from freedom.

  44. To move away from religion, especially Christianity, is a move towards freedom.

  45. I think it's a very common view.

  46. And so, you know, basically, who wants this?

  47. And so we have a very, very fundamental problem.

  48. And, you know, if we're honest ourselves, for many of us, there still is a bit of a lingering thing about that,

  49. that if we get too close to Jesus, too close to God,

  50. that won't be like that hymn that would have this sort of type of assurance and peace,

  51. but that it will make us weird and make our lives far more bent and small and limited and bent out of shape.

  52. So turn to the Bible, and we'll see why I'm saying this,

  53. because, you know, there's this Galatians chapter 5, verse 1,

    Galatians 5:1

  54. and there's this wonderful, wonderful, wonderful text.

  55. And it sounds very nice when we're all here together,

  56. and I don't know how if we're all, you know, we're all here together,

  57. and for those of us who are Christians, we can sort of say it's nice and it's good,

  58. but there's lots of problems with it.

  59. In fact, here's the text, Galatians 5, verse 1.

    Galatians 5:1

  60. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  61. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  62. And that word for that begins it, in this particular case,

  63. it's not following along in the argument.

  64. It's explaining the purpose for what Christ has died for us,

  65. is that Jesus died for us.

  66. Why did he die?

  67. He died for freedom.

  68. He died for our freedom.

  69. For freedom, your freedom and mine, when we put our trust in Jesus Christ,

  70. has set us free.

  71. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  72. And this is a great, great verse.

  73. In some ways, it's what the whole book of Galatians is all about.

  74. And if you think about it for a second,

  75. if you took this verse and took out Christ,

  76. most Canadians would like it.

  77. For freedom, we have been set free.

  78. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  79. You could say that in the Women's Study Department at Ottawa U.

  80. You could say it in the gender studies.

  81. You could say it in the military.

  82. You could say it in an old folks' home,

  83. in your neighborhood.

  84. And people would say, that's a great, that's true.

  85. For freedom, I am free.

  86. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  87. I agree with that 100%.

  88. You know, maybe 98% of Canadians would say that.

  89. But you put the word Christ in it, and it's problematic.

  90. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  91. I mean, that's how we would read it.

  92. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  93. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  94. This isn't just a Canadian problem.

  95. It's a human problem.

  96. I've been a Christian for a long time now.

  97. I was raised in a Christian home.

  98. But for me, as I was, and I became a Christian in grade 12,

  99. for me, going through my high school years,

  100. I found Christianity and whole church life

  101. extremely, extremely unattractive.

  102. The opposite of what I wanted to be involved in.

  103. And, you know, it's funny,

  104. because for me growing up,

  105. it seemed as if in the world,

  106. like outside of the church,

  107. I could listen to any type of music I wanted.

  108. But in the church that I grew up in,

  109. you could only listen to certain types of music.

  110. And I didn't like that type of music.

  111. Like I would never have willingly bought a record.

  112. I'm old.

  113. He bought records back then.

  114. 45.

  115. Some of us remember what a 45 was.

  116. I would never willingly have bought any of that music.

  117. And I had to, you had to dress a certain way.

  118. In the world, you could dress all sorts of different ways.

  119. But in the church, you had to dress certain ways.

  120. And I didn't like dressing that way.

  121. And I could go on and on and on.

  122. And so it seemed to me as if in the world,

  123. there was freedom.

  124. But there wasn't freedom if I got involved in a church

  125. and got involved in the Christian faith.

  126. And so part of my whole conversion

  127. was getting over that particular idea

  128. and seeing that, in fact,

  129. a verse like Galatians 5, verse 1 is true.

    Galatians 5:1

  130. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  131. Stand firm, therefore,

  132. and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

  133. So what do we do?

  134. Like, like in our own lives,

  135. and if we were trying to explain this

  136. to a lot of people in our culture,

  137. like, like what do we do?

  138. I mean, on one level, there's not much we can do.

  139. Second Corinthians says very wise,

  140. wisely that the God of this age has blinded us.

  141. So we don't see the light of the glory of the gospel.

  142. And for many of us, in fact,

  143. really what we just need to do is pray for our friends

  144. and our families and our co-workers

  145. and our loved ones that God's,

  146. through his Holy Spirit,

  147. would move and work in their hearts.

  148. Like every conversion is a bit of a miracle.

  149. Not a bit of a miracle, a complete miracle.

  150. And often we come to faith

  151. through the most odd and unlikely ways.

  152. I mean, just in my own case,

  153. because this is now in the time

  154. when the counterculture,

  155. when there were hippies and all of that.

  156. I mean, there's certain old,

  157. there's new hippies and old hippies now,

  158. but when it was still a sort of a new and fresh thing.

  159. For me, the turning point in my life

  160. was seeing a man with big beard and big long hair

  161. halfway down his back,

  162. opening a Bible and telling people about Jesus.

  163. And it just completely blew the categories that I had.

  164. that maybe I could be a Christian

  165. and not have to necessarily follow into a certain culture.

  166. Although the actual moment when I gave my life to Christ,

  167. it was just really me finally

  168. giving in to this pressure.

  169. I now know that it was the pressure of Jesus

  170. knocking on the door of my heart,

  171. asking to come in.

  172. And I finally just gave in to that

  173. and opened the door of my heart

  174. because Jesus was knocking to come in

  175. and I let him come in.

  176. But if we're trying to understand this

  177. and what goes on in our hearts

  178. and what's going on in our culture,

  179. like how do we understand texts like this?

  180. Why is it that probably just about every Canadian

  181. would willingly say they agree with,

  182. for freedom we have been set free,

  183. stand firm therefore and do not submit again

  184. to a yoke of slavery.

  185. But by just merely putting the word Christ in there,

  186. it becomes a text that fundamentally

  187. we at times don't agree with

  188. and most of our neighbors would never agree with.

  189. In fact, they would see it as the complete opposite.

  190. So what's going on there?

  191. How can we sort of deal with that?

  192. First of all, we want to say this,

  193. that desiring freedom is a good thing.

  194. Desiring freedom is a good thing.

  195. I mean, that's in a sense what the text is telling us here.

  196. For freedom Christ has set us free.

  197. Stand firm therefore and do not submit again

  198. to a yoke of slavery.

  199. We have problems thinking that Christ will set us free,

  200. but the fact that Canadians generally value freedom,

  201. that's a good thing.

  202. We should applaud it.

  203. In fact, it's a sign that they were,

  204. for Christians, just take a step back for a second

  205. and we take a step back from the pressure of the world

  206. and we just look at it and we realize

  207. the fact that human beings desire to be free

  208. is a sign that the Bible's true,

  209. that the Bible's account of human beings is true.

  210. On Netflix, I'm watching this very interesting,

  211. quirky television series called Fargo.

  212. I know it's been out for a while.

  213. Some of you maybe have watched it a long time ago.

  214. It's very quirky, very odd, understated humor,

  215. but there's a spectacular scene in it.

  216. There's no spoiler in this.

  217. There's a spectacular scene in it

  218. when this one guy who's a hit man

  219. is driving this other fellow

  220. that he's supposed to be protecting

  221. and he says to him,

  222. he said, you know, there are no saints

  223. in the animal world.

  224. There are no saints in the animal world.

  225. In the animal world,

  226. all there is is breakfast and lunch.

  227. Isn't that a great line?

  228. In the animal world,

  229. all there is is breakfast and lunch.

  230. No saints.

  231. And that's true.

  232. The fact that human beings desire to be free

  233. and have a sense that freedom

  234. is something they should experience

  235. is a sign that we're not merely part of the animal world.

  236. That atheism and secularism and materialism

  237. and their account of how human beings came to be

  238. and what makes human beings,

  239. when they bring in freedom,

  240. they're bringing in something

  241. which contradicts their assumptions.

  242. It's not something that flows from us,

  243. but for us as Christians

  244. who understand that God made human beings,

  245. that we are designed,

  246. that we're made in his image,

  247. we understand that because we are made in his image

  248. and God designed us to be free,

  249. that when human beings desire freedom,

  250. they're desiring something true

  251. and something that goes against

  252. how they tend to talk about

  253. how things came to be

  254. and how the world works.

  255. that they're blessedly,

  256. wonderfully inconsistent

  257. because God, in fact,

  258. has designed us to be free.

  259. And the other things,

  260. the other thing that we have to acknowledge

  261. is that

  262. that Christians

  263. often don't model being very free.

  264. that in our own lives,

  265. it might be that people look at us

  266. and don't say,

  267. there's somebody who's really free.

  268. Churches can be very oppressive places.

  269. Churches can be very, very, very, very demanding

  270. on people's time.

  271. Churches can spend a lot of time

  272. trying to make people feel guilty.

  273. Churches can come up with lots of rules

  274. and it can be,

  275. we can even be thinking

  276. that we're getting rid of the bad old rules

  277. to have a better way of being,

  278. but the new ways of being

  279. are often just as,

  280. I mean, like today,

  281. you know, a lot of times

  282. churches want to get away

  283. from the old rules

  284. around sex, let's say,

  285. and want to have a new way of being

  286. which is far more hip

  287. and far more culturally acceptable

  288. to be hip.

  289. But they're just different rules

  290. that you can't keep.

  291. Like, I can't grow a hipster beard.

  292. I mean, I know I'm closer

  293. to hip replacement than hip,

  294. but even if I wanted to try to fake it,

  295. I just can't grow the right beard.

  296. And you know what?

  297. I have to be more centered

  298. and I have to live a more simple life

  299. and all of these types of things.

  300. And we don't put it as,

  301. you have to, you have to, you have to.

  302. It's put it as a wonderful thing.

  303. We're going to be centered.

  304. We're going to be spiritual.

  305. We're going to be simple.

  306. As if all of us,

  307. we're all like living in Walden Pond.

  308. But I don't live in Walden Pond.

  309. I live in Ottawa.

  310. Like, have you seen rush hour traffic?

  311. Have you had to line up

  312. for OC Transpo buses

  313. and they don't come for 40 minutes

  314. and then six of them come in a row?

  315. I mean, have you lived in Ottawa?

  316. Like, we might think

  317. that we're improving it,

  318. but we're not actually improving it.

  319. They're just different rules.

  320. And so we Christians often don't live

  321. as if we're very, very free.

  322. We're not immune to the problems

  323. that beset just everybody.

  324. But here's the,

  325. let's listen to the text again.

  326. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  327. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  328. Stand firm, therefore,

  329. and do not submit again

  330. to a yoke of slavery.

  331. For freedom, Christ has set us free.

  332. Stand firm, therefore,

  333. and do not submit again

  334. to a yoke of slavery.

  335. If you could put up the first point.

  336. One of the reasons that I think

  337. part of us in our flesh

  338. and Canadians in general

  339. have a hard time believing

  340. that coming close to Christ

  341. and trusting him as our Savior and Lord

  342. is actually a step towards freedom

  343. is because we have

  344. a completely false understanding.

  345. Not completely false.

  346. We have,

  347. within our sense of freedom,

  348. we've brought in something

  349. which is not truly

  350. going to lead us to freedom.

  351. To try and live as a God

  352. is to live as a slave

  353. who does not know that he

  354. or she,

  355. if you're a she

  356. and you're making these

  357. as your notes,

  358. is a slave.

  359. To try and live as a God

  360. is to live as a slave

  361. who does not know

  362. that he is a slave.

  363. The fact is

  364. that while we as Canadians

  365. desire freedom,

  366. that's not actually

  367. all of the story

  368. because for many of us

  369. we sense this problem

  370. between something else

  371. which we also value

  372. which is love.

  373. like many,

  374. many marriages

  375. come to an end

  376. because one person

  377. desires more freedom

  378. and they can't have

  379. their freedom

  380. and still be in the love

  381. relationship

  382. that is marriage.

  383. One of the reasons

  384. that people

  385. don't want to commit

  386. to marriage

  387. is they have this sense

  388. that if they actually

  389. fall in love with somebody

  390. and commit to them,

  391. it's going to hinder

  392. their freedom.

  393. that we have this

  394. basic sense

  395. that somehow or another

  396. there's our freedom

  397. which we want,

  398. there's love that we want,

  399. but if we really

  400. give ourselves into love,

  401. it's going to impinge

  402. on our freedom

  403. and if we really

  404. give ourselves to freedom,

  405. it's going to impinge

  406. or hurt

  407. or cause to suffer

  408. our ability

  409. to love people.

  410. like the more

  411. we just want to be

  412. like ourselves,

  413. it ends up often

  414. meaning that the more

  415. we do things

  416. that cause problems

  417. in friendships

  418. and problems

  419. in our relationships

  420. and yet if we

  421. want to try to

  422. actually commit

  423. to the friendship

  424. or the relationship,

  425. it ends up meaning

  426. that we can't just

  427. do what we want

  428. or say what we want

  429. or, you know,

  430. change the way

  431. that we want

  432. and so we get hesitant

  433. about going into it.

  434. At the heart

  435. of most Canadians'

  436. understandings

  437. and our understandings

  438. of what it means

  439. to be free

  440. is this idea

  441. that we can do

  442. what we want,

  443. that we can do

  444. what we want

  445. whenever we want

  446. and the fact

  447. of the matter

  448. is that in the real world

  449. it just doesn't work.

  450. It just doesn't work.

  451. The other thing

  452. that we have,

  453. like when I,

  454. one of the things

  455. about becoming

  456. a Christian

  457. that was problematic

  458. for me

  459. is that I wanted

  460. to be able

  461. to do things

  462. that the Bible

  463. said were wrong

  464. and I didn't

  465. want to submit

  466. to what the Bible

  467. said was wrong

  468. because I wanted

  469. to be able

  470. to behave sexually

  471. in a very,

  472. very different way

  473. than the Bible

  474. said I was going

  475. to have to behave.

  476. And I grew up

  477. in a Christian home

  478. and I knew

  479. that there would

  480. be ties on my money

  481. but the fact

  482. of the matter

  483. is I didn't like

  484. giving my money away

  485. and the fact

  486. of the matter

  487. is I always

  488. wanted more money.

  489. I mean,

  490. I'm just a teenager.

  491. You always want

  492. more money.

  493. I now know

  494. now old

  495. teenage years

  496. were a long,

  497. long,

  498. long,

  499. long,

  500. long time ago

  501. but most Canadians

  502. still want

  503. more money.

  504. In fact,

  505. what happens

  506. for us as Canadians

  507. that we understand

  508. that to become free

  509. what we end up doing

  510. is we end up

  511. giving ourselves

  512. to some pursuit

  513. that will make us free.

  514. That we have something

  515. that we think

  516. that if we just

  517. orient our lives

  518. around some pursuit

  519. or some several pursuits

  520. that those,

  521. as we attain that,

  522. will be more free,

  523. will be more complete,

  524. will be more whole.

  525. And our lives

  526. will be more satisfactory

  527. so that we trust

  528. certain things

  529. and give ourselves

  530. to certain things

  531. to give us meaning,

  532. to give us a type of hope,

  533. to give us a type of structure,

  534. to be something

  535. that will deliver us

  536. from the different things

  537. that we think

  538. are bad things

  539. that we want

  540. to deliver us from.

  541. It's all part of a desire

  542. to be more whole.

  543. And so,

  544. you know,

  545. we give ourselves

  546. maybe to,

  547. you know,

  548. to making more money

  549. or we give ourselves

  550. to being able

  551. to have more power

  552. or we give ourselves

  553. to relationships

  554. because we don't want

  555. to be alone

  556. or we give ourselves

  557. to being in situations

  558. where people need us

  559. because if they need us

  560. and are dependent upon us,

  561. we have some type

  562. of self-worth.

  563. But all of these things

  564. that we give us ourselves to

  565. and we think

  566. in the eyes of the culture

  567. that if we give ourselves

  568. to these things,

  569. it will make us

  570. somehow more free

  571. and more complete,

  572. but they can't possibly

  573. do that

  574. because every single

  575. one of them

  576. will come to an end.

  577. Every single one of them

  578. will come to an end.

  579. We give ourselves

  580. for our kids

  581. because if we have kids,

  582. it will give our lives

  583. meaning

  584. and then the kids

  585. get old

  586. and then they move away

  587. and then they hardly call

  588. or our children die.

  589. I've been a minister

  590. a long time.

  591. I mean,

  592. it's hard

  593. when I've had to do

  594. a funeral for children

  595. and for teenagers.

  596. I think the biggest funeral

  597. I ever did

  598. was for a guy,

  599. this was back

  600. when Ontario

  601. still had grade 13

  602. and a very,

  603. very,

  604. very popular student

  605. in the high school,

  606. he was on

  607. a March break

  608. spring fling

  609. and he started

  610. to act a bit disoriented

  611. and his friends

  612. and the teachers

  613. just thought

  614. he was drunk.

  615. But it was

  616. a medical problem

  617. and he collapsed

  618. and he died.

  619. And

  620. it was devastating

  621. for the parents,

  622. devastating

  623. for the high school kids.

  624. It's the biggest funeral

  625. that I ever did,

  626. I think.

  627. I think the entire

  628. graduating class

  629. came to the funeral

  630. and many of their parents.

  631. But we give ourselves

  632. to things

  633. that will fail.

  634. Why?

  635. Because they come

  636. to an end.

  637. And even if for some reason

  638. you have kids

  639. who all just,

  640. you're able to have kids

  641. and they all live

  642. right by you

  643. and you're able

  644. to make lots of money

  645. and you die

  646. with lots of money,

  647. the fact of the matter

  648. is,

  649. is that one millisecond

  650. after you die,

  651. you lose it all

  652. because you can't be

  653. poorer than dead,

  654. as Flannery O'Connor

  655. so famously said.

  656. the poorest person

  657. that lives in Ottawa

  658. and Bill Gates

  659. have the exact

  660. same net worth

  661. and the exact

  662. same amount

  663. of power

  664. one millisecond

  665. after they die.

  666. So if in fact

  667. they fail,

  668. if in fact

  669. they come to an end,

  670. why is it

  671. that we think

  672. that by giving ourselves

  673. to these things

  674. that they will make us

  675. more free?

  676. Or take another

  677. particular problem,

  678. many people don't

  679. give themselves

  680. for those things,

  681. but even if you do

  682. give themselves

  683. for those things,

  684. those things,

  685. they're completely

  686. and utterly impersonal.

  687. Money is impersonal.

  688. Power is at the end

  689. of the day

  690. just something

  691. that you have

  692. in an org chart

  693. or the ability

  694. to boss people around

  695. but it's still

  696. in a sense

  697. something impersonal.

  698. People also

  699. give themselves

  700. to ideas

  701. or to ideologies

  702. or they give themselves

  703. to a political party

  704. or they give themselves

  705. to a nation

  706. or they become

  707. consumed

  708. with issues

  709. around race

  710. or issues

  711. around gender

  712. or issues

  713. around sex

  714. and they give

  715. that we give

  716. ourselves

  717. to these types

  718. of things

  719. but these things

  720. are all ultimately

  721. impersonal things.

  722. Well, we think

  723. these things

  724. are going to give us

  725. freedom

  726. but just think

  727. about it for a second.

  728. If you're in a relationship

  729. with another person

  730. and the relationship

  731. becomes more

  732. and more impersonal,

  733. we always see

  734. that as a bad thing.

  735. So if it's a bad thing

  736. to become more impersonal,

  737. why is it that we think

  738. that if we give ourselves

  739. to impersonal things,

  740. it will make us

  741. more free?

  742. If we find out

  743. that somebody's

  744. working in some

  745. faceless office

  746. and some faceless bureaucracy

  747. and they're just

  748. some cubicle rat,

  749. some cubicle minion,

  750. putting things

  751. from one file

  752. to another

  753. and just living

  754. and working

  755. in this impersonal thing

  756. and going back

  757. to an impersonal apartment

  758. and we see all of that

  759. and we say

  760. their entire life

  761. is impersonal,

  762. it's not very good

  763. but the fact of the matter

  764. is that money

  765. is impersonal,

  766. power is impersonal,

  767. the nation is impersonal,

  768. the institution

  769. is impersonal,

  770. ideology is impersonal,

  771. why is it that we think

  772. that if we give ourselves,

  773. when we see somebody

  774. who's trapped

  775. in something impersonal,

  776. we see it as something

  777. which is not good

  778. and yet the things

  779. that we think

  780. will bring us freedom

  781. are in fact impersonal

  782. and why is it

  783. that we don't realize

  784. that that's what we're doing?

  785. Why is it that we

  786. don't realize

  787. that we're giving ourselves

  788. to things

  789. that will just fail

  790. or that even

  791. if they don't fail,

  792. if we're successful

  793. in giving ourselves

  794. to them,

  795. they're impersonal,

  796. they're less than us,

  797. why is it that

  798. we don't recognize that?

  799. Why is it that

  800. we will choose

  801. everything other than God?

  802. And we do.

  803. For freedom,

  804. Christ has set us free.

  805. Stand firm therefore

  806. and do not submit again

  807. to a yoke of slavery.

  808. To try and live

  809. as a God

  810. is to live as a slave

  811. who does not know

  812. that he is a slave.

  813. What the Bible describes

  814. in Genesis chapter 3,

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  815. you see,

  816. the Bible describes

  817. why this is the case.

  818. I don't think,

  819. in fact,

  820. I know there is no other book,

  821. there is no other

  822. religion or teaching

  823. that more perfectly

  824. captures human experience

  825. and makes it plain.

  826. God made us for himself.

  827. He makes us as creatures

  828. in his image

  829. and he makes us free.

  830. He makes us

  831. to walk in the garden

  832. with him,

  833. naked and unashamed,

  834. knowing him

  835. and being known by him.

  836. and he makes us

  837. to walk in the garden

  838. with others,

  839. knowing them

  840. and being known by them,

  841. loving them

  842. and being loved by them,

  843. being naked

  844. and unashamed.

  845. And where there is

  846. no conflict

  847. between knowing God

  848. and knowing another person,

  849. that we can be

  850. completely and utterly

  851. transparent

  852. and enjoy

  853. walking with God

  854. in the cool of the day,

  855. in a place of beauty,

  856. given a role

  857. to tend the garden,

  858. to be creative

  859. and innovative

  860. and to explore

  861. this entire created order

  862. that God has made us

  863. to live in

  864. and that is how God

  865. designed human beings

  866. to be.

  867. And then human beings

  868. in Adam and Eve,

  869. we decide

  870. that that is not enough.

  871. That we want

  872. to be like God.

  873. We want

  874. to be like God.

  875. And the terrible

  876. irony is,

  877. if you go back

  878. and look at the story,

  879. is that

  880. Adam says,

  881. I want to be like God.

  882. And Eve says,

  883. I want to be like God.

  884. And maybe it's not revealed

  885. in the Bible

  886. and their consciousness

  887. this was something

  888. that we would be like God.

  889. But if you know anything

  890. about mythologies

  891. that have many gods,

  892. what happens

  893. in every single mythology

  894. that has more than one God?

  895. They fight.

  896. Every mythology

  897. that has more than one God,

  898. they fight.

  899. And Adam

  900. wants to be like God.

  901. And Eve wants

  902. to be like God.

  903. And the terrible

  904. tragedy is

  905. that when they

  906. turn their back

  907. on God

  908. and desire

  909. and try to now

  910. be as if they are God

  911. by willfully

  912. doing what God

  913. has said

  914. they should not do

  915. and turning their back

  916. on that blessing,

  917. that what in fact

  918. happens to human beings

  919. is that now

  920. Adam cannot

  921. be naked

  922. in front of Eve

  923. without shame.

  924. and Adam

  925. cannot be naked

  926. in front of God

  927. without shame.

  928. And now Adam

  929. hides from God

  930. even when God

  931. is not condemning him

  932. but God only wants

  933. to walk in the garden

  934. with him

  935. in the cool of the day

  936. and Adam

  937. can no longer

  938. do that.

  939. He

  940. loathes

  941. being naked

  942. and he is ashamed

  943. and he can no longer

  944. even have a conversation

  945. with his wife

  946. and his wife

  947. can no longer

  948. have a conversation

  949. with their husband

  950. without passing

  951. the buck

  952. and putting on

  953. blame

  954. and distance

  955. and trying to put

  956. the other one down

  957. so that they will be

  958. a little bit higher

  959. and that

  960. ancient

  961. break

  962. in human nature

  963. with all of the

  964. complexities

  965. of what it means

  966. continues to this day.

  967. The book of Romans

  968. puts it so wonderfully

  969. seeking to be wise

  970. they became fools

  971. and exchanged

  972. the glory of God

  973. for the glory

  974. of created

  975. for created things

  976. that we would not

  977. bow to God

  978. to serve him

  979. in heaven

  980. and yet the way

  981. that God

  982. designed us

  983. is that as we

  984. bow to God

  985. we grow bigger.

  986. As we bow

  987. to God

  988. naked

  989. and unashamed

  990. we become

  991. more full of life

  992. and more whole.

  993. So instead

  994. seeking to be wise

  995. we bow

  996. to the nation

  997. something that

  998. will pass away.

  999. We bow

  1000. to race

  1001. we bow

  1002. to sex

  1003. we bow

  1004. to power

  1005. we bow

  1006. to money

  1007. we bow

  1008. to things

  1009. that are

  1010. often far

  1011. beneath us

  1012. and then

  1013. we wonder

  1014. why we have

  1015. become

  1016. so much

  1017. smaller

  1018. and so

  1019. cramped

  1020. and so

  1021. bent out

  1022. of shape.

  1023. Seeking

  1024. to be wise

  1025. we have

  1026. become

  1027. fools.

  1028. And in the

  1029. midst of such

  1030. a world

  1031. God sends

  1032. his son

  1033. to do

  1034. what we

  1035. cannot do

  1036. ourselves.

  1037. God

  1038. could you

  1039. put up

  1040. the next

  1041. point

  1042. please?

  1043. I am

  1044. free

  1045. as a

  1046. creature

  1047. not

  1048. as a

  1049. God

  1050. and to

  1051. the extent

  1052. that I

  1053. continue

  1054. to pursue

  1055. a project

  1056. of being

  1057. like a

  1058. God

  1059. to that

  1060. extent

  1061. I will

  1062. never be

  1063. free.

  1064. you know

  1065. one of the

  1066. things

  1067. that's very

  1068. common now

  1069. when people

  1070. talk about

  1071. marriage

  1072. or whatever

  1073. an equivalent

  1074. to marriage

  1075. is that

  1076. people are

  1077. looking for

  1078. their soul

  1079. mates.

  1080. Louise is

  1081. not my

  1082. soul mate

  1083. and I

  1084. am not

  1085. her soul

  1086. mate

  1087. and to

  1088. say that

  1089. in many

  1090. Canadian

  1091. contexts

  1092. it would

  1093. be

  1094. you

  1095. just

  1096. insulted

  1097. your

  1098. wife

  1099. to

  1100. say that

  1101. she is

  1102. not my

  1103. soul

  1104. mate.

  1105. Here's

  1106. the problem

  1107. with

  1108. soul

  1109. mate.

  1110. The

  1111. whole

  1112. language

  1113. and

  1114. desire

  1115. for a

  1116. soul

  1117. mate

  1118. is all

  1119. part of

  1120. the

  1121. God

  1122. project.

  1123. That

  1124. what we

  1125. desire

  1126. is that

  1127. we desire

  1128. to pursue

  1129. the

  1130. blossoming

  1131. of

  1132. ourselves

  1133. the

  1134. blossoming

  1135. of our

  1136. careers

  1137. the

  1138. blossoming

  1139. of our

  1140. freedom

  1141. the

  1142. blossoming

  1143. of our

  1144. wholeness

  1145. and we

  1146. seek to

  1147. have the

  1148. blossoming

  1149. of all

  1150. of these

  1151. things

  1152. on our

  1153. terms

  1154. at our

  1155. rate of

  1156. change

  1157. in our

  1158. particular

  1159. way.

  1160. And so

  1161. what we're

  1162. looking for

  1163. is we're

  1164. looking for

  1165. a soul

  1166. mate.

  1167. We're

  1168. looking for

  1169. someone

  1170. who also

  1171. will

  1172. blossom

  1173. in the

  1174. same

  1175. ways

  1176. at the

  1177. same

  1178. time

  1179. at the

  1180. same

  1181. rate.

  1182. And so

  1183. we look

  1184. for one

  1185. exactly

  1186. like that.

  1187. And basically

  1188. what it is

  1189. is I'm

  1190. desiring

  1191. my God

  1192. project

  1193. to continue

  1194. but I

  1195. think and

  1196. I hope

  1197. that I can

  1198. find someone

  1199. else who

  1200. will share

  1201. my God

  1202. project

  1203. with me

  1204. and we

  1205. want to be

  1206. nice and

  1207. we want to

  1208. be kind

  1209. and we

  1210. want to

  1211. be

  1212. Canadian

  1213. so we

  1214. hope that

  1215. they have

  1216. their God

  1217. project and

  1218. I have

  1219. my God

  1220. project and

  1221. the both

  1222. of us will

  1223. have our

  1224. God projects

  1225. at the

  1226. same time

  1227. but it

  1228. never

  1229. works.

  1230. Every

  1231. marriage comes

  1232. face to face

  1233. with the fact

  1234. that you have

  1235. married a

  1236. sinner.

  1237. When I

  1238. married Louise

  1239. I married

  1240. a sinner.

  1241. when she

  1242. married George

  1243. she married

  1244. a sinner.

  1245. And we

  1246. need

  1247. successful

  1248. marriages

  1249. aren't ones

  1250. where the

  1251. two people

  1252. can pursue

  1253. their God

  1254. projects

  1255. together

  1256. as soul

  1257. mates.

  1258. but

  1259. successful

  1260. marriages

  1261. are ones

  1262. and marriages

  1263. that have

  1264. lasted a long

  1265. time and

  1266. look good

  1267. they might

  1268. not wear

  1269. their scars

  1270. in public

  1271. but underneath

  1272. their clothing

  1273. there are

  1274. lots of

  1275. scars

  1276. because

  1277. true

  1278. successful

  1279. marriages

  1280. work in

  1281. dealing with

  1282. the fact

  1283. that you

  1284. are both

  1285. sinners

  1286. through

  1287. acts of

  1288. forgiveness

  1289. and service

  1290. and love.

  1291. acts

  1292. of just

  1293. unadulterated

  1294. forgiveness

  1295. and of

  1296. turning the

  1297. other cheek

  1298. and of

  1299. patience

  1300. and of

  1301. serving the

  1302. other despite

  1303. their sin

  1304. and despite

  1305. the fact

  1306. that I

  1307. myself am

  1308. a sinner

  1309. as well.

  1310. So

  1311. if I

  1312. desire to

  1313. continue

  1314. my God

  1315. project

  1316. I will

  1317. never be

  1318. free.

  1319. I am

  1320. free as

  1321. a creature

  1322. but not

  1323. as a

  1324. God.

  1325. Next

  1326. point.

  1327. I

  1328. cannot be

  1329. free as

  1330. a creature

  1331. until I

  1332. am

  1333. reconciled

  1334. and restored

  1335. to my

  1336. creator

  1337. who made

  1338. me to

  1339. be free.

  1340. You

  1341. see

  1342. if in

  1343. fact

  1344. God's

  1345. plan and

  1346. design for

  1347. me was

  1348. to walk

  1349. in the

  1350. garden

  1351. with him

  1352. in the

  1353. cool of

  1354. the day

  1355. naked

  1356. and

  1357. unashamed

  1358. and

  1359. not do

  1360. that just

  1361. by myself

  1362. as a

  1363. lonely

  1364. man

  1365. but to

  1366. do that

  1367. with

  1368. others

  1369. naked

  1370. and

  1371. unashamed

  1372. knowing

  1373. and being

  1374. known

  1375. loving

  1376. and being

  1377. loved

  1378. then until

  1379. that

  1380. fundamental

  1381. wound

  1382. is dealt

  1383. with and I

  1384. am reconciled

  1385. and restored

  1386. to my

  1387. creator

  1388. who made

  1389. me to be

  1390. free

  1391. I cannot

  1392. be free.

  1393. Next

  1394. point

  1395. please

  1396. Jesus

  1397. Christ

  1398. died

  1399. a

  1400. slave's

  1401. death

  1402. so that

  1403. we who

  1404. would

  1405. otherwise

  1406. live

  1407. and die

  1408. as

  1409. slaves

  1410. can

  1411. live

  1412. free

  1413. today

  1414. and into

  1415. eternity.

  1416. This

  1417. fundamental

  1418. text that

  1419. we spent

  1420. so long

  1421. on

  1422. for freedom

  1423. Christ

  1424. has set

  1425. us

  1426. free

  1427. stand

  1428. firm

  1429. therefore

  1430. and do

  1431. not

  1432. submit

  1433. again

  1434. to a

  1435. yoke

  1436. of

  1437. slavery

  1438. this

  1439. text

  1440. in the

  1441. word

  1442. set

  1443. us

  1444. free

  1445. in the

  1446. original

  1447. language

  1448. it's a

  1449. particular

  1450. text

  1451. that says

  1452. that something

  1453. has happened

  1454. in the

  1455. past

  1456. that is

  1457. a final

  1458. and its

  1459. effect

  1460. continues

  1461. into the

  1462. day.

  1463. That

  1464. Jesus

  1465. dies

  1466. a

  1467. slave's

  1468. death

  1469. so that

  1470. we who

  1471. would

  1472. otherwise

  1473. live

  1474. and die

  1475. as slaves

  1476. can live

  1477. free

  1478. today

  1479. and into

  1480. eternity

  1481. when we

  1482. put our

  1483. faith

  1484. and our

  1485. trust

  1486. in him.

  1487. I had

  1488. the honor

  1489. to be

  1490. able to

  1491. speak

  1492. on

  1493. Parliament

  1494. Hill

  1495. on

  1496. Friday

  1497. at

  1498. lunch

  1499. to

  1500. people

  1501. who

  1502. work

  1503. as

  1504. staff

  1505. workers

  1506. in the

  1507. Senate

  1508. and

  1509. for

  1510. the

  1511. MPs

  1512. Parliament

  1513. Hill

  1514. Christian

  1515. Fellowship

  1516. and I

  1517. gave an

  1518. earlier

  1519. version

  1520. of this

  1521. talk

  1522. to

  1523. them

  1524. and

  1525. one

  1526. of

  1527. the

  1528. things

  1529. I

  1530. said

  1531. to

  1532. them

  1533. is

  1534. that

  1535. they

  1536. all

  1537. know

  1538. how

  1539. the

  1540. world

  1541. works

  1542. in

  1543. some

  1544. ways

  1545. if

  1546. you

  1547. work

  1548. on

  1549. Parliament

  1550. Hill

  1551. you

  1552. live

  1553. in a

  1554. bubble

  1555. separate

  1556. from

  1557. the

  1558. world

  1559. but

  1560. in

  1561. other

  1562. ways

  1563. you

  1564. actually

  1565. know

  1566. how

  1567. the

  1568. world

  1569. works

  1570. in a

  1571. very

  1572. powerful

  1573. way

  1574. I

  1575. gave

  1576. them

  1577. this

  1578. example

  1579. I

  1580. don't

  1581. think

  1582. anybody

  1583. would

  1584. have

  1585. disagreed

  1586. with

  1587. it

  1588. that

  1589. in

  1590. the

  1591. way

  1592. it

  1593. works

  1594. is

  1595. that

  1596. if

  1597. the

  1598. MP

  1599. screws

  1600. up

  1601. if

  1602. at

  1603. all

  1604. possible

  1605. it

  1606. is

  1607. an

  1608. underling

  1609. who

  1610. falls

  1611. on

  1612. the

  1613. sword

  1614. if

  1615. Andrew

  1616. Scheer

  1617. or

  1618. Justin

  1619. Trudeau

  1620. they

  1621. do

  1622. something

  1623. or

  1624. allow

  1625. something

  1626. to

  1627. happen

  1628. that

  1629. shouldn't

  1630. have

  1631. happened

  1632. the

  1633. very

  1634. very

  1635. first

  1636. thing

  1637. that

  1638. will

  1639. go

  1640. through

  1641. most

  1642. people's

  1643. minds

  1644. is

  1645. how

  1646. low

  1647. in the

  1648. hierarchy

  1649. in the

  1650. office

  1651. can we

  1652. go

  1653. to

  1654. find

  1655. someone

  1656. who

  1657. will

  1658. fall

  1659. on

  1660. their

  1661. sword

  1662. and

  1663. take

  1664. the

  1665. responsibility

  1666. of it

  1667. because

  1668. in the

  1669. real

  1670. world

  1671. it's

  1672. the

  1673. minions

  1674. who

  1675. die

  1676. for

  1677. the

  1678. masters

  1679. that's

  1680. how

  1681. the

  1682. world

  1683. works

  1684. the

  1685. little

  1686. guys

  1687. die

  1688. the

  1689. little

  1690. gals

  1691. die

  1692. for

  1693. the

  1694. powerful

  1695. in

  1696. fact

  1697. if

  1698. you

  1699. think

  1700. about

  1701. it

  1702. this

  1703. is

  1704. really

  1705. partially

  1706. the

  1707. entire

  1708. a

  1709. huge

  1710. part

  1711. of the

  1712. entire

  1713. system

  1714. of what

  1715. we

  1716. know

  1717. of

  1718. as

  1719. Islam

  1720. who

  1721. find

  1722. it

  1723. completely

  1724. and

  1725. utterly

  1726. incomprehensible

  1727. that

  1728. Jesus

  1729. could

  1730. die

  1731. on

  1732. the

  1733. cross

  1734. why

  1735. because

  1736. it's

  1737. the

  1738. weak

  1739. who

  1740. die

  1741. for

  1742. the

  1743. strong

  1744. it's

  1745. the

  1746. small

  1747. who

  1748. die

  1749. for

  1750. the

  1751. big

  1752. it's

  1753. it's

  1754. the

  1755. ones

  1756. down

  1757. here

  1758. who

  1759. die

  1760. but

  1761. the

  1762. more

  1763. power

  1764. you

  1765. have

  1766. you

  1767. don't

  1768. die

  1769. for

  1770. the

  1771. weak

  1772. if

  1773. we

  1774. were

  1775. to

  1776. read

  1777. that

  1778. Andrew

  1779. Scheer

  1780. or

  1781. Justin

  1782. Trudeau

  1783. that

  1784. the

  1785. young

  1786. girl

  1787. or

  1788. guy

  1789. who

  1790. files

  1791. the

  1792. mail

  1793. and

  1794. is

  1795. the

  1796. lowest

  1797. in

  1798. the

  1799. office

  1800. that

  1801. they

  1802. made

  1803. a

  1804. mistake

  1805. for

  1806. which

  1807. they

  1808. should

  1809. be

  1810. fired

  1811. and

  1812. we

  1813. were

  1814. to

  1815. hear

  1816. that

  1817. Justin

  1818. Trudeau

  1819. would

  1820. take

  1821. the

  1822. blame

  1823. and

  1824. be

  1825. fired

  1826. instead

  1827. we

  1828. would

  1829. not

  1830. believe

  1831. it

  1832. the

  1833. same

  1834. Bible

  1835. the

  1836. same

  1837. gospel

  1838. that

  1839. reveals

  1840. that

  1841. we

  1842. are

  1843. slaves

  1844. reveals

  1845. that

  1846. we

  1847. are

  1848. slaves

  1849. in

  1850. the

  1851. context

  1852. of

  1853. the

  1854. powerful

  1855. dying

  1856. for

  1857. the

  1858. weak

  1859. of

  1860. the

  1861. master

  1862. dying

  1863. for

  1864. the

  1865. lowly

  1866. one

  1867. for

  1868. the

  1869. prime

  1870. minister

  1871. dying

  1872. for

  1873. the

  1874. one

  1875. who

  1876. works

  1877. in

  1878. the

  1879. mail

  1880. room

  1881. and

  1882. that's

  1883. why

  1884. there

  1885. is

  1886. no

  1887. contradiction

  1888. between

  1889. a text

  1890. like this

  1891. for

  1892. freedom

  1893. Christ

  1894. to

  1895. set

  1896. us

  1897. free

  1898. stand

  1899. firm

  1900. therefore

  1901. and

  1902. do

  1903. not

  1904. submit

  1905. again

  1906. to

  1907. a

  1908. yoke

  1909. of

  1910. slavery

  1911. there

  1912. is

  1913. no

  1914. contradiction

  1915. between

  1916. this

  1917. text

  1918. and

  1919. what

  1920. Jesus

  1921. says

  1922. when

  1923. he

  1924. says

  1925. come

  1926. to

  1927. me

  1928. all

  1929. who

  1930. labor

  1931. and

  1932. are

  1933. heavy

  1934. laden

  1935. and

  1936. I

  1937. will

  1938. give

  1939. you

  1940. rest

  1941. take

  1942. my

  1943. yoke

  1944. upon

  1945. you

  1946. and

  1947. learn

  1948. from

  1949. me

  1950. for

  1951. I

  1952. am

  1953. gentle

  1954. and

  1955. lowly

  1956. of

  1957. heart

  1958. and

  1959. you

  1960. will

  1961. find

  1962. rest

  1963. for

  1964. your

  1965. souls

  1966. for

  1967. my

  1968. yoke

  1969. is

  1970. easy

  1971. and

  1972. my

  1973. burden

  1974. is

  1975. light

  1976. why

  1977. is

  1978. there

  1979. no

  1980. contradiction

  1981. between

  1982. for

  1983. freedom

  1984. Christ

  1985. has

  1986. set

  1987. us

  1988. free

  1989. stand

  1990. firm

  1991. therefore

  1992. and

  1993. do

  1994. not

  1995. submit

  1996. again

  1997. to

  1998. a

  1999. yoke

  2000. of

  2001. slavery

  2002. who

  2003. better

  2004. to

  2005. trust

  2006. to

  2007. form

  2008. your

  2009. life

  2010. into

  2011. deeper

  2012. freedom

  2013. than

  2014. the

  2015. one

  2016. who

  2017. took

  2018. the

  2019. sword

  2020. for

  2021. you

  2022. who

  2023. better

  2024. to

  2025. trust

  2026. than

  2027. the

  2028. one

  2029. who

  2030. took

  2031. the

  2032. sword

  2033. for

  2034. you

  2035. and

  2036. the

  2037. fact

  2038. of

  2039. the

  2040. matter

  2041. is

  2042. the

  2043. same

  2044. hands

  2045. that

  2046. took

  2047. the

  2048. nails

  2049. as

  2050. he

  2051. was

  2052. hung

  2053. upon

  2054. the

  2055. cross

  2056. are

  2057. the

  2058. hands

  2059. that

  2060. we

  2061. want

  2062. to

  2063. have

  2064. touch

  2065. us

  2066. to

  2067. heal

  2068. us

  2069. and

  2070. to

  2071. shape

  2072. us

  2073. because

  2074. the

  2075. fact

  2076. is

  2077. that

  2078. we

  2079. come

  2080. to

  2081. Christ

  2082. we

  2083. come

  2084. to

  2085. him

  2086. like

  2087. this

  2088. in

  2089. fact

  2090. far

  2091. more

  2092. twisted

  2093. than

  2094. that

  2095. I'm

  2096. not

  2097. very

  2098. flexible

  2099. if I

  2100. do

  2101. more

  2102. than

  2103. that

  2104. you

  2105. might

  2106. have

  2107. to

  2108. pick

  2109. me

  2110. up

  2111. and

  2112. take

  2113. me

  2114. to

  2115. the

  2116. hospital

  2117. but

  2118. the

  2119. fact

  2120. the

  2121. matter

  2122. is

  2123. is

  2124. that

  2125. we're

  2126. all

  2127. bent

  2128. and

  2129. disfigured

  2130. and

  2131. disformed

  2132. and

  2133. Christ

  2134. sets

  2135. us

  2136. free

  2137. and

  2138. we

  2139. are

  2140. free

  2141. indeed

  2142. and

  2143. we

  2144. need

  2145. the

  2146. loving

  2147. hands

  2148. the

  2149. nail

  2150. scarred

  2151. hands

  2152. of

  2153. Jesus

  2154. the

  2155. one

  2156. who

  2157. died

  2158. for

  2159. us

  2160. and

  2161. has

  2162. made

  2163. us

  2164. free

  2165. forever

  2166. we

  2167. need

  2168. those

  2169. same

  2170. hands

  2171. guided

  2172. by

  2173. his

  2174. heart

  2175. and

  2176. his

  2177. mind

  2178. and

  2179. his

  2180. great

  2181. love

  2182. and

  2183. compassion

  2184. for

  2185. us

  2186. knowing

  2187. how

  2188. we

  2189. were

  2190. created

  2191. knowing

  2192. how

  2193. we

  2194. have

  2195. bent

  2196. ourselves

  2197. into

  2198. a

  2199. pretzel

  2200. shape

  2201. trying

  2202. to flee

  2203. from

  2204. how

  2205. we

  2206. were

  2207. created

  2208. doing

  2209. crazy

  2210. things

  2211. and

  2212. foolish

  2213. things

  2214. and

  2215. he

  2216. knows

  2217. how

  2218. bent

  2219. and

  2220. warped

  2221. we

  2222. are

  2223. and

  2224. he's

  2225. made

  2226. us

  2227. free

  2228. and

  2229. he'll

  2230. never

  2231. let

  2232. us

  2233. go

  2234. and

  2235. so

  2236. now

  2237. we

  2238. need

  2239. to

  2240. submit

  2241. to

  2242. his

  2243. touch

  2244. and

  2245. submit

  2246. to

  2247. his

  2248. word

  2249. and

  2250. submit

  2251. to

  2252. his

  2253. heart

  2254. and

  2255. submit

  2256. to

  2257. his

  2258. wisdom

  2259. as

  2260. he

  2261. takes

  2262. me

  2263. who's

  2264. all

  2265. bent

  2266. like

  2267. this

  2268. and

  2269. starts

  2270. to

  2271. work

  2272. a

  2273. work

  2274. of

  2275. healing

  2276. and

  2277. direction

  2278. so

  2279. that

  2280. I

  2281. can

  2282. stand

  2283. free

  2284. before

  2285. him

  2286. forever

  2287. and

  2288. the

  2289. hands

  2290. that

  2291. take

  2292. me

  2293. when

  2294. I

  2295. call

  2296. out

  2297. to

  2298. him

  2299. to

  2300. be

  2301. my

  2302. savior

  2303. those

  2304. will

  2305. never

  2306. let

  2307. me

  2308. go

  2309. I

  2310. am

  2311. secure

  2312. in

  2313. his

  2314. blood

  2315. his

  2316. sacrifice

  2317. for

  2318. me

  2319. and

  2320. as

  2321. I

  2322. press

  2323. more

  2324. into

  2325. Christ

  2326. he

  2327. died

  2328. for

  2329. me

  2330. to

  2331. be

  2332. free

  2333. and

  2334. at

  2335. the

  2336. end

  2337. of

  2338. the

  2339. day

  2340. I

  2341. will

  2342. be

  2343. know

  2344. that

  2345. freedom

  2346. and

  2347. its

  2348. fullness

  2349. and

  2350. its

  2351. beauty

  2352. and

  2353. its

  2354. glory

  2355. and

  2356. its

  2357. spectacularness

  2358. and

  2359. in

  2360. between

  2361. the

  2362. moment

  2363. my

  2364. conversion

  2365. and

  2366. when

  2367. I

  2368. die

  2369. and

  2370. I

  2371. peer

  2372. before

  2373. him

  2374. face

  2375. to

  2376. face

  2377. and

  2378. I

  2379. know

  2380. that

  2381. freedom

  2382. in

  2383. all

  2384. of

  2385. its

  2386. fullness

  2387. where

  2388. I

  2389. cry

  2390. out

  2391. free

  2392. at

  2393. last

  2394. free

  2395. at

  2396. last

  2397. thank

  2398. God

  2399. almighty

  2400. I

  2401. am

  2402. free

  2403. at

  2404. last

  2405. and

  2406. in

  2407. between

  2408. that

  2409. I

  2410. submit

  2411. to

  2412. his

  2413. touch

  2414. and

  2415. his

  2416. yoke

  2417. knowing

  2418. that

  2419. as

  2420. I

  2421. draw

  2422. close

  2423. to

  2424. Christ

  2425. he

  2426. will

  2427. only

  2428. make

  2429. me

  2430. more

  2431. free

  2432. free

  2433. from

  2434. idols

  2435. free

  2436. from

  2437. sin

  2438. free

  2439. from

  2440. slavery

  2441. free

  2442. from

  2443. lies

  2444. free

  2445. from

  2446. self

  2447. deception

  2448. his

  2449. hands

  2450. his

  2451. yoke

  2452. those

  2453. nail

  2454. pierced

  2455. hands

  2456. will

  2457. only

  2458. make

  2459. me

  2460. more

  2461. free

  2462. as

  2463. I

  2464. push

  2465. into

  2466. him

  2467. and

  2468. allow

  2469. him

  2470. to

  2471. draw

  2472. me

  2473. into

  2474. him

  2475. his

  2476. yoke

  2477. is

  2478. easy

  2479. and

  2480. his

  2481. burden

  2482. is

  2483. ultimately

  2484. and

  2485. eternally

  2486. light

  2487. please

  2488. stand

  2489. just

  2490. bow

  2491. our

  2492. heads

  2493. in

  2494. prayer

  2495. actually

  2496. Andrew

  2497. could

  2498. you

  2499. put

  2500. up

  2501. the

  2502. ninth

  2503. point

  2504. please

  2505. I'm

  2506. going to

  2507. invite

  2508. you

  2509. to

  2510. say

  2511. a

  2512. prayer

  2513. with

  2514. me

  2515. I'm

  2516. just

  2517. going

  2518. to

  2519. read

  2520. it

  2521. out

  2522. to

  2523. you

  2524. so

  2525. you

  2526. know

  2527. what

  2528. you're

  2529. praying

  2530. oh

  2531. God

  2532. creator

  2533. and

  2534. sustainer

  2535. of

  2536. all

  2537. things

  2538. to

  2539. be

  2540. known

  2541. by

  2542. you

  2543. and

  2544. to

  2545. know

  2546. you

  2547. as

  2548. perfect

  2549. freedom

  2550. thank

  2551. you

  2552. that

  2553. despite

  2554. my

  2555. slavery

  2556. and

  2557. my

  2558. sin

  2559. your

  2560. son

  2561. came

  2562. to

  2563. live

  2564. and

  2565. die

  2566. that

  2567. I

  2568. may

  2569. be

  2570. free

  2571. free

  2572. to

  2573. know

  2574. and

  2575. be

  2576. known

  2577. free

  2578. to

  2579. love

  2580. and

  2581. be

  2582. loved

  2583. please

  2584. pour

  2585. the

  2586. Holy

  2587. Spirit

  2588. deep

  2589. within

  2590. me

  2591. that

  2592. I

  2593. may

  2594. be

  2595. gripped

  2596. by

  2597. the

  2598. gospel

  2599. and

  2600. grow

  2601. in

  2602. hope

  2603. as

  2604. I

  2605. live

  2606. free

  2607. for

  2608. your

  2609. glory

  2610. in

  2611. Jesus

  2612. name

  2613. I

  2614. invite

  2615. you

  2616. to

  2617. pray

  2618. that

  2619. prayer

  2620. with

  2621. me

  2622. let

  2623. us

  2624. pray

  2625. oh

  2626. God

  2627. creator

  2628. and

  2629. sustainer

  2630. of

  2631. all

  2632. things

  2633. to

  2634. be

  2635. known

  2636. by

  2637. you

  2638. and

  2639. to

  2640. know

  2641. you

  2642. is

  2643. perfect

  2644. freedom

  2645. thank

  2646. you

  2647. that

  2648. despite

  2649. my

  2650. slavery

  2651. and

  2652. my

  2653. sin

  2654. your

  2655. son

  2656. came

  2657. to

  2658. live

  2659. and

  2660. die

  2661. that

  2662. I

  2663. may

  2664. be

  2665. free

  2666. free

  2667. to

  2668. know

  2669. and

  2670. be

  2671. known

  2672. free

  2673. to

  2674. love

  2675. and

  2676. be
