  1. We're really blessed this morning to have a guest speaker with us.

  2. It's the Reverend Aaron Imey from Australia via Jerusalem.

  3. And he is part of CMJ, which means the Church's Mission Among the Jews.

  4. Sort of vaguely, you know, CMJ, just think Christian Mission and Jews,

  5. and then you've got, you know, the other little connector words can sort of figure themselves out.

  6. And it's a wonderful ministry.

  7. It's the Christ Church, which is part of that in the old city of Jerusalem,

  8. the oldest Protestant church in the Middle East.

  9. And Aaron serves there.

  10. Lots of stories about evangelism and everything.

  11. Next time he comes, hopefully it won't be the 9 o'clock service on the long weekend in May,

  12. but it's just really wonderful to have him with us.

  13. Aaron, how many kids do you have?

  14. Three.

  15. Three and one wife?

  16. One wife.

  17. Okay, good.

  18. That's just...

  19. In the Middle East, you can never tell.

  20. Yeah, that's why I had to ask.

  21. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

  22. So one wife, three kids.

  23. How long have you been in Jerusalem?

  24. 20 years.

  25. 20 years.

  26. And so how well do you speak Hebrew?

  27. Tell us.

  28. Okay.

  29. I'm dangerous.

  30. A new miss will come.

  31. What's that?

  32. I'm dangerous.

  33. I speak Hebrew dangerously.

  34. Oh, you speak Hebrew dangerously.

  35. Okay.

  36. But you can speak it.

  37. Oh, yes, absolutely.

  38. People understand it.

  39. Totally.

  40. Totally.

  41. And they're a bit surprised that a goy knows how to speak Hebrew?

  42. Yeah.

  43. I still have an Australian accent with my Hebrew.

  44. I can't get rid of it.

  45. Well, at least it sounds like an educated Australian accent,

  46. not one of those, you know what I mean.

  47. I won't say anything.

  48. I've just put my foot in my mouth.

  49. I won't say anything more.

  50. It's the first time in my whole ministry I've put my foot in my mouth, actually.

  51. At least the first time in the last minute.

  52. So you're going to tell us this in your sermon,

  53. but what's the Jewish feast that this all took place at?

  54. It's called Shavuot.

  55. Shavuot.

  56. It's the Feast of Weeks.

  57. So they still celebrate that festival in Jerusalem?

  58. Yep.

  59. Celebrating it right now.

  60. Right now?

  61. Really?

  62. Right now?

  63. Right now.

  64. Oh, okay.

  65. Yep.

  66. Good.

  67. Well, it's just a blessing to have you.

  68. I'm just going to pray for him and for us as he opens the word.

  69. And then after this, we're going to have a chance to pray for him and other things as well.

  70. So let's just pray.

  71. Father, it's your word, not ours.

  72. Jesus is the Savior, not us.

  73. You are God, not us.

  74. We are really thankful for that.

  75. Father, you wrote your word.

  76. You know what you want to speak to us.

  77. We ask for the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon Aaron,

  78. that he might open your word to us,

  79. that he might draw us to Jesus,

  80. make us more open to the Holy Spirit,

  81. and create within us a desire to glorify you, Father,

  82. and bring you praise.

  83. And this we ask in Jesus' name.

  84. Amen.

  85. Amen.

  86. Thank you very much.

  87. I really enjoy coming here.

  88. I like what you've done with the place.

  89. You've made it look like a theater.

  90. Did you know that?

  91. And you have a great name,

  92. Church of the Messiah.

  93. So it's Pentecost,

  94. and in Israel today,

  95. it is Shavuot,

  96. the Feast of Weeks.

  97. Just from the story that we read,

  98. Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  99. better set the alarm so I know when to stop.

  100. It's Pentecost.

  101. We see the Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  102. It's a very familiar story to us all.

  103. We read it quite a few times.

  104. I can tell you that I've actually celebrated this now

  105. 48 times in my life.

  106. It's the giving of the Holy Spirit,

  107. the start of the church,

  108. and for me,

  109. I get to operate in a mission

  110. five minutes away from where all this happened,

  111. which is a privilege.

  112. And Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  113. Pentecost,

  114. it's a great mission story for missionaries.

  115. I mean, you get the Holy Spirit,

  116. you have a captivated audience,

  117. you preach a very short sermon,

  118. and you save 3,000 people.

  119. So it is a really good story.

  120. 3,000 in one day.

  121. It's fantastic.

  122. The book of Acts is sacred history.

  123. It's the sacred history of the church.

  124. 2,000 years ago.

  125. So how does it impact now?

  126. How does it impact us now?

  127. What does Pentecost mean for us now?

  128. How does the Holy Spirit,

  129. the giving of God's Spirit onto all flesh,

  130. impact and motivate us now?

  131. So Luke, who's writing this,

  132. has one eye on Pentecost

  133. and one eye on the Exodus,

  134. the first Pentecost.

  135. Because let's remind ourselves

  136. when we pick up the book of Acts,

  137. this has happened before.

  138. In Hebrew, we call it Shavuot,

  139. the Feast of Weeks.

  140. So after we finish Passover,

  141. we count 49 days,

  142. seven sevens,

  143. a week of weeks.

  144. And on the 50th day,

  145. we get together and celebrate another festival,

  146. the Festival of Shavuot.

  147. Well, initially,

  148. this was an agrarian culture,

  149. we celebrated the wheat harvest,

  150. but we celebrated the idea

  151. of us journeying out of Egypt,

  152. coming to the footsteps of Mount Sinai,

  153. actually meeting God

  154. for the very first time,

  155. which is a big deal.

  156. What did we know about God

  157. when we were in Egypt?

  158. Nothing.

  159. We didn't have a priest,

  160. we didn't have a prophet,

  161. we didn't have the temple.

  162. But we get to Mount Sinai

  163. and God reveals himself.

  164. It was a really big event for us

  165. as a people.

  166. And God spoke to us

  167. and he gave us the Torah.

  168. And the tradition these days

  169. is to sit around for the next 24 hours

  170. and read the book of Ruth.

  171. So Jewish people are gathering

  172. in their synagogues

  173. and the passage read,

  174. obviously,

  175. is not Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  176. It's the book of Ruth.

  177. And there's lots of themes in there

  178. that are amazing and powerful.

  179. You've got themes

  180. of Jews and Gentiles

  181. coming together,

  182. which is what you had

  183. at the Exodus story.

  184. Who came out of Egypt?

  185. Yes, Israel did.

  186. But who else came out?

  187. The mixed multitude.

  188. There were all kinds of people.

  189. So you have Jews and Gentiles

  190. in the book of Ruth

  191. coming together.

  192. You've got Redeemer figures.

  193. People are engaged

  194. in the act of redemption.

  195. You even get a character

  196. that appears called the Goel,

  197. the Redeemer,

  198. a type of Messianic figure.

  199. You have converts,

  200. these people who are actually

  201. coming and embracing

  202. the history of God

  203. and the Jewish people.

  204. And it's about a community

  205. that was once excluded

  206. from Israel,

  207. the Moabites,

  208. now becoming part

  209. of the community.

  210. So it's a great book

  211. to start reading around

  212. at the time of Pentecost.

  213. For our context,

  214. we have,

  215. in the time of Acts,

  216. we're under Roman occupation.

  217. We have a distinct lack

  218. of leadership

  219. in the Jewish community.

  220. We haven't had a good leader

  221. for quite some time

  222. when we get to the book of Acts.

  223. We've got pretty poor shepherds.

  224. And they're all fighting each other

  225. over who's got the correct interpretation

  226. of the Torah.

  227. We've got Sadducees

  228. who jealously guard the temple

  229. and its environment.

  230. We've got the Pharisees

  231. who always point their finger

  232. at how bad they are.

  233. We've got these rabbis

  234. who are always on the fringe.

  235. We've got people

  236. who are embracing Hellenism,

  237. Greek theology

  238. and assimilating

  239. into that culture.

  240. We don't have any prophets.

  241. No one's speaking

  242. into our community.

  243. No one's getting up

  244. delivering powerful sermons.

  245. And we don't have

  246. an independent nation.

  247. For some reason,

  248. that seems to be quite

  249. an important thing

  250. for some people.

  251. So what are we left with?

  252. We're left with the Bible.

  253. We're left with the Torah.

  254. And so we leap

  255. into a study of the Torah,

  256. the study of the Bible,

  257. to try and find out God's will.

  258. If we haven't got good shepherds,

  259. we don't have a good temple structure,

  260. if it's all gone corrupt,

  261. if we don't have any prophets

  262. speaking into us,

  263. we don't have any kings

  264. that can give us direction,

  265. then where do we find our direction?

  266. So for a couple of hundred years

  267. prior to Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  268. we leapt into the Torah.

  269. And we made

  270. the giving of the Torah

  271. a very special event.

  272. So Shavuot,

  273. the giving of the Torah,

  274. when God actually came down

  275. on the mountain and spoke,

  276. that became known as

  277. hachag,

  278. the festival.

  279. So when you read in the Gospels,

  280. sometimes you'll see

  281. Jesus went to Jerusalem

  282. for the festival,

  283. or for the feast.

  284. But I won't tell you

  285. what feast it was.

  286. It's Shavuot.

  287. It's Pentecost.

  288. It even became more important

  289. than Passover.

  290. Like it was the big thing

  291. because the Bible

  292. became important.

  293. It was how we discerned

  294. from the will of God.

  295. And we read

  296. at the beginning of Acts

  297. this sort of shaking

  298. of nature,

  299. of lightning,

  300. of thunder,

  301. of wind.

  302. And the disciples

  303. are together

  304. and they're of one

  305. accord.

  306. And our passage

  307. opens

  308. and it stresses

  309. that they were as one.

  310. It stresses

  311. unity.

  312. This actually is

  313. a Jewish insight

  314. into the text.

  315. They were united

  316. as one.

  317. They were not united

  318. with the corrupt temple.

  319. people.

  320. They were not united

  321. with the corrupt

  322. religious leaders.

  323. They were not united

  324. with the Roman occupation.

  325. What were they united with?

  326. With each other.

  327. They were a community.

  328. Stopped fighting each other

  329. about who was going to sit

  330. on the right hand of Jesus.

  331. Who was going to be the best

  332. of the disciples.

  333. They were of one accord.

  334. One heart.

  335. One mind.

  336. Sharing their possessions.

  337. Selling things

  338. and making sure

  339. that everybody

  340. had enough.

  341. Giving together

  342. each of their material wealth.

  343. Dividing up divisions

  344. of labor

  345. to make sure

  346. that who could do

  347. the teaching,

  348. who could do

  349. the serving,

  350. who could be the warden,

  351. who could do the music.

  352. They were getting

  353. themselves together,

  354. meeting together,

  355. praying together.

  356. Acts says

  357. that they were

  358. getting together

  359. for the prayers.

  360. This actually

  361. is a Jewish comment

  362. because unity

  363. attracts the presence

  364. of God.

  365. What was the purpose

  366. of the Exodus?

  367. Why did God

  368. with a mighty hand

  369. and an outstretched arm

  370. reach down

  371. into a nation

  372. that didn't know

  373. anything about him

  374. that were slaves

  375. and redeem them?

  376. It wasn't,

  377. the purpose

  378. of the Exodus

  379. was not

  380. to get a bunch

  381. of Hebrew slaves

  382. into the Holy Land

  383. because if it was,

  384. God would have given

  385. Moses better directions.

  386. He would have said

  387. when you get out

  388. of Egypt,

  389. you turn left.

  390. When you hit

  391. the Mediterranean,

  392. you turn right

  393. and you can't miss it.

  394. The purpose

  395. of the Exodus

  396. is to bring

  397. the people

  398. to Mount Sinai.

  399. The purpose

  400. of the Exodus

  401. is so that

  402. they can hear

  403. the voice

  404. of the Lord.

  405. The purpose

  406. of the Exodus

  407. is for God

  408. to reveal himself

  409. and to become king.

  410. And so if that's

  411. so important,

  412. why did it take

  413. 50 days?

  414. If it was

  415. so important

  416. to get the children

  417. of Israel

  418. to Mount Sinai,

  419. why does it

  420. take them so long?

  421. What's the issue?

  422. And so for Jewish people,

  423. Jewish commentators,

  424. they read through

  425. the Bible

  426. and they look

  427. at every word

  428. individually

  429. with a little

  430. minutiae looking

  431. and they discover

  432. that every time

  433. Israel wanders

  434. around the desert,

  435. the verb

  436. to camp,

  437. yachanu,

  438. is in plural.

  439. They camped,

  440. a group of them.

  441. That's actually

  442. good grammar.

  443. But then all

  444. of a sudden

  445. in Exodus 19,

  446. the verb

  447. switches

  448. to singular,

  449. which is grammatically

  450. incorrect.

  451. But it's in the Bible.

  452. And they go,

  453. that shouldn't be there.

  454. What does it mean

  455. that they were camping

  456. as one

  457. person?

  458. And then they say,

  459. wow,

  460. unity

  461. attracts

  462. the presence

  463. of the Lord.

  464. We were

  465. so concerned

  466. about

  467. whose camel

  468. was stepping

  469. on who else's camel

  470. and whose tent

  471. was too close

  472. to everybody else's tent

  473. and who was getting

  474. a bigger share

  475. of the manna

  476. and the water resources.

  477. But all of a sudden

  478. we said,

  479. no,

  480. we're together

  481. in this.

  482. And God came down.

  483. And when they

  484. read the text,

  485. they discover

  486. that when God spoke,

  487. you could actually

  488. see it.

  489. When you read

  490. Exodus 20,

    Exodus 20:18

  491. verse 18,

  492. it says

  493. in Hebrew,

  494. Vokol Ha'am

  495. and all

  496. the people,

  497. well,

  498. who are the people?

  499. Remember,

  500. Israel is now

  501. made up of

  502. Jews and Gentiles.

  503. When they leave

  504. Egypt,

  505. there are Jews

  506. and

  507. Egyptians

  508. came with them.

  509. They are together.

  510. Kol Ha'am,

  511. all the people,

  512. not

  513. Kol Ha'udim,

  514. Kol Israelim,

  515. not all the Israelites,

  516. all the Jews,

  517. Kol Ha'am,

  518. Ro'im,

  519. they saw

  520. et

  521. Hakolot,

  522. they saw

  523. the voices.

  524. Now,

  525. in my English translation,

  526. it says,

  527. all the people saw

  528. the thunder and flashes

  529. of lightning.

  530. But the actual Hebrew

  531. says,

  532. all the people

  533. saw

  534. the voices.

  535. The,

  536. very next word,

  537. the et

  538. ha'lepedim,

  539. and

  540. the torches.

  541. what did they see

  542. when God spoke?

  543. They saw fire.

  544. They saw fire

  545. and they heard

  546. lots

  547. of voices.

  548. And they heard

  549. et

  550. kol Ha'shofar.

  551. They heard

  552. the sound

  553. of the shofar,

  554. the big horn

  555. that

  556. signals

  557. and invokes

  558. the presence

  559. of the Spirit

  560. in Jewish tradition.

  561. You go to Israel

  562. and you get all these

  563. Christians coming along

  564. blowing shofars

  565. all the time.

  566. Completely inappropriately,

  567. just so you know.

  568. You don't blow

  569. shofars

  570. whenever you feel

  571. like it.

  572. It has a particular

  573. purpose.

  574. It's designed,

  575. you blow it

  576. to invoke

  577. the Spirit

  578. of God

  579. and to wake you up.

  580. When you read

  581. the Psalms

  582. that said,

  583. sleep or awake,

  584. you were supposed

  585. to blow the shofar.

  586. Wake up!

  587. The Spirit

  588. of God is here,

  589. we've got to do

  590. something.

  591. So they saw

  592. the voice

  593. of the shofar,

  594. the Edha

  595. Hashem,

  596. and the mountain

  597. of the smoke,

  598. and the people

  599. were afraid,

  600. and they

  601. kind of

  602. retreated.

  603. It was a bit

  604. scary for them.

  605. And you see

  606. the very same

  607. thoughts.

  608. That's why Luke's

  609. got one eye

  610. on the Exodus

  611. because that's

  612. exactly what happens

  613. again

  614. when we have

  615. Pentecost.

  616. we have

  617. the Holy Spirit

  618. coming down,

  619. we have the sound

  620. of the shofar

  621. where the church

  622. is woken up

  623. and there were

  624. tongues of fire.

  625. You could see it

  626. and you could

  627. hear it.

  628. So the Torah

  629. that was given

  630. to the people,

  631. those same people

  632. were now being

  633. given the Spirit

  634. of God.

  635. And oddly enough,

  636. this was declared

  637. in a prophet,

  638. the prophet Joel.

  639. He had actually

  640. said this before.

  641. He said that this

  642. was going to happen,

  643. that the Spirit

  644. of God was going

  645. to be poured out

  646. on all flesh.

  647. One of the

  648. beautiful things

  649. about reading

  650. the Psalms

  651. and reading

  652. the prophets

  653. is we actually

  654. discover that

  655. God is the God

  656. of the world.

  657. For God so loved

  658. the world,

  659. not just the Jews,

  660. salvation was

  661. always going

  662. to be universal.

  663. When God was

  664. going to pour

  665. out His Spirit,

  666. He was going

  667. to give it

  668. to all flesh.

  669. Males,

  670. females,

  671. old,

  672. young,

  673. rich,

  674. poor.

  675. This is

  676. frightening stuff

  677. for totalitarian

  678. dictators and kings.

  679. There was going

  680. to be no difference.

  681. God was going

  682. to give His Spirit

  683. to everybody

  684. and what were

  685. they going to do?

  686. They were going

  687. to roll over

  688. and bark like

  689. dogs.

  690. No.

  691. They were going

  692. to prophesy.

  693. Somewhere along

  694. the line,

  695. we've switched

  696. that word

  697. because we've

  698. now just so

  699. busy concentrating

  700. on the tongues

  701. aspect that

  702. that's only like

  703. halfway through

  704. the Acts 2

  705. passage.

  706. It keeps going.

  707. Stuff happens.

  708. People get

  709. saved.

  710. The community

  711. starts to act

  712. in a certain

  713. way.

  714. That's where

  715. the bit

  716. I'm going

  717. to get to.

  718. But the

  719. prophet Joel

  720. says,

  721. I'm going

  722. to pour

  723. out my

  724. Spirit

  725. on all

  726. flesh

  727. and you

  728. all

  729. prophesy.

  730. It might

  731. be great

  732. to speak

  733. in tongues.

  734. It might

  735. be wonderful

  736. to roll

  737. on the ground

  738. barking like

  739. a dog,

  740. but that

  741. is not

  742. the point.

  743. That is

  744. not the

  745. final

  746. conclusion.

  747. And everyone

  748. in the world

  749. was going

  750. to get it.

  751. And the

  752. world,

  753. let's be

  754. honest,

  755. is a

  756. very hostile

  757. place.

  758. It's hostile

  759. to the

  760. gospel.

  761. It's hostile

  762. to the

  763. church.

  764. It's hostile

  765. to the

  766. truth.

  767. It's just

  768. like the

  769. wilderness.

  770. It's dry.

  771. It's dangerous.

  772. It's the

  773. abode of

  774. demons.

  775. And yet,

  776. that's where

  777. God calls

  778. his heroes.

  779. He doesn't

  780. say,

  781. I'm going

  782. to get you

  783. saved.

  784. You're going

  785. to become

  786. my disciple.

  787. Let's

  788. sit under

  789. a really

  790. nice tree

  791. by the

  792. lake of

  793. the

  794. Galilee,

  795. chew some

  796. gum,

  797. and wait

  798. for the

  799. rapture.

  800. He takes

  801. his heroes

  802. out into

  803. the desert.

  804. Abraham's in

  805. the desert.

  806. Isaac's in

  807. the desert.

  808. Moses is in

  809. the desert.

  810. The people

  811. of God are

  812. in the desert.

  813. The prophets

  814. will run to

  815. the desert.

  816. Jesus goes

  817. to the desert.

  818. John the

  819. Baptist says,

  820. I will prepare

  821. a place where

  822. in the wilderness,

  823. that's where

  824. God's going

  825. to speak.

  826. That's where

  827. he's going

  828. to encounter.

  829. That's where

  830. he's going

  831. to meet

  832. his people.

  833. He's going

  834. to meet

  835. them in

  836. the world.

  837. He's going

  838. to meet

  839. his people

  840. in the

  841. world.

  842. For God

  843. so loved

  844. the world.

  845. It's hostile.

  846. It's dangerous.

  847. But God

  848. is going

  849. to make

  850. it better.

  851. He is not

  852. going to

  853. leave it

  854. dry.

  855. He is not

  856. going to

  857. leave it

  858. barren.

  859. He's not

  860. going to

  861. leave it

  862. alone.

  863. He's going

  864. to come

  865. and leave

  866. heaven.

  867. He's going

  868. to come

  869. down and

  870. dwell.

  871. He's going

  872. to make

  873. it better.

  874. Anyone who

  875. calls on the

  876. name of the

  877. Lord is going

  878. to be saved.

  879. This actually

  880. should wake

  881. us all up.

  882. This really

  883. should motivate

  884. us.

  885. The Holy

  886. Spirit isn't

  887. given to

  888. us so that

  889. we can have

  890. goosebumps,

  891. as nice as

  892. goosebumps might

  893. be.

  894. It's not

  895. given so that

  896. we can have

  897. eschatological

  898. experiences and

  899. then write

  900. them on

  901. Facebook.

  902. It isn't

  903. so that we

  904. can just run

  905. around and

  906. learn mystical

  907. languages.

  908. As nice as

  909. that is, it

  910. is given for

  911. mission.

  912. And I'm

  913. going to say

  914. that not just

  915. because I'm a

  916. missionary.

  917. I'm going to

  918. say it because

  919. that's what God

  920. gave it for.

  921. So that anyone

  922. in the world

  923. who calls on

  924. the name of

  925. the Lord will

  926. be saved.

  927. The Holy

  928. Spirit is

  929. given to

  930. the people

  931. of God,

  932. to Jews and

  933. Gentiles,

  934. for the task

  935. of making

  936. the world a

  937. better place.

  938. For the

  939. task of

  940. going out

  941. into the

  942. world and

  943. sharing the

  944. love of God.

  945. To transform

  946. the wilderness

  947. into something

  948. that's bright,

  949. cheerful,

  950. colorful,

  951. full of

  952. flowers and

  953. beautiful.

  954. A place that

  955. would all

  956. like to live.

  957. It's to put

  958. the will of

  959. God into

  960. practice.

  961. That's why we

  962. get the Holy

  963. Spirit.

  964. It is

  965. given as

  966. a gift so

  967. that we give

  968. it away as

  969. a gift.

  970. And so we

  971. actually have

  972. to hear that

  973. shofar too.

  974. And if we

  975. had one, I'd

  976. say let's blow

  977. it today.

  978. Okay?

  979. And I would

  980. say sleeper

  981. awake.

  982. We the

  983. church, we

  984. need to wake

  985. up.

  986. We need to

  987. make sure that

  988. we take today,

  989. we take, we

  990. retell the story

  991. of Pentecost

  992. every year.

  993. We're supposed

  994. to get

  995. ourselves

  996. reanimated

  997. and reexcited

  998. and remind

  999. ourselves, I

  1000. mean that

  1001. really is the

  1002. job of

  1003. preachers, to

  1004. remind us of

  1005. the story that

  1006. we already

  1007. know.

  1008. To refill

  1009. ourselves with

  1010. hope and

  1011. vision and

  1012. remind us that

  1013. we're supposed

  1014. to be having

  1015. dreams and

  1016. visions, that

  1017. we're supposed

  1018. to be engaged

  1019. in this world,

  1020. not alone.

  1021. I do it with

  1022. you and you

  1023. and I get to

  1024. do it together

  1025. and we

  1026. have the

  1027. Holy Spirit,

  1028. the presence

  1029. of the God.

  1030. It was a

  1031. really good

  1032. prayer that

  1033. George said

  1034. this morning

  1035. where he

  1036. said, Lord,

  1037. you know,

  1038. somehow it

  1039. was better

  1040. that Jesus

  1041. went away

  1042. and the

  1043. Holy Spirit

  1044. was given.

  1045. I don't

  1046. get it.

  1047. And it's

  1048. so true.

  1049. It would

  1050. be really

  1051. nice to

  1052. keep Jesus.

  1053. But for

  1054. whatever reason,

  1055. and he knows

  1056. the best plan,

  1057. he gave us

  1058. the breath

  1059. of God

  1060. himself.

  1061. And this

  1062. is not

  1063. something we

  1064. take sitting

  1065. down.

  1066. It is

  1067. not

  1068. something

  1069. that we

  1070. take and

  1071. keep it

  1072. in our

  1073. little prayer

  1074. closets.

  1075. It's

  1076. something that

  1077. we get

  1078. motivated.

  1079. We are

  1080. all supposed

  1081. to be

  1082. motivated.

  1083. You,

  1084. me,

  1085. our families.

  1086. There is a

  1087. world out

  1088. there that's

  1089. hostile and

  1090. God wants

  1091. to make

  1092. sure that

  1093. when we

  1094. go into

  1095. it,

  1096. we are

  1097. safe with

  1098. him,

  1099. we are

  1100. protected

  1101. by him,

  1102. but we

  1103. have

  1104. something

  1105. that can

  1106. help us

  1107. through all

  1108. the

  1109. challenges.

  1110. So,

  1111. brothers and

  1112. sisters,

  1113. Pentecost,

  1114. the readings

  1115. that we

  1116. read this

  1117. morning,

  1118. our prayers,

  1119. they challenge

  1120. us to

  1121. hear the

  1122. shofar,

  1123. to see

  1124. God speak

  1125. in action,

  1126. to put it

  1127. into practice

  1128. so that

  1129. everyone,

  1130. everyone

  1131. who calls

  1132. on the

  1133. name of

  1134. the Lord

  1135. will be

  1136. saved.

  1137. And that's

  1138. good news.
