  1. Let me just pray for us together.

  2. It's part of what we call a pastoral prayer.

  3. The idea isn't that I just pray and you just check out,

  4. but actually that we pray together for our church,

  5. for the city, and for what God is doing.

  6. So if you just pray with me now.

  7. Loving, sovereign, gracious Father,

  8. we want to thank you that your perfect love casts out all fear.

  9. Lord, we come before you and sometimes we're confused.

  10. Sometimes we doubt.

  11. Sometimes we wonder where you are in the midst of such perplexing times.

  12. Sometimes we don't know how to respond.

  13. And yet you tell us that you are the everlasting God

  14. who does not grow tired or weary,

  15. who watches over us,

  16. who knows every hair on the head or on our heads.

  17. You know everything.

  18. And you are the one who sees through the moments in our lives

  19. with the wide-angle lens of eternity.

  20. Lord, our worries and fears are so temporary,

  21. and yet you are eternal.

  22. Help us to see you like that.

  23. Thank you that you hold us in your loving arms.

  24. Help us not to just kind of know the right doctrines in our heads,

  25. but in our lives, whatever's going on in our city, in our families.

  26. Lord, I pray that you'd help the truth of who you are

  27. to go deep into our hearts and our souls, Lord.

  28. That we'd have this deep, unshakable confidence in you.

  29. And Father, forgive us where we look at the circumstances of our lives

  30. through the lens of our own human understanding.

  31. Forgive us where we fear because we've forgotten who you are.

  32. Forgive us where we try to control our own little worlds

  33. so that we don't have to completely depend on you, Lord.

  34. I pray.

  35. Open our eyes to see you this morning.

  36. And Lord, we just want to keep praying for our city at this time.

  37. And we pray, Lord, particularly for the church in this city.

  38. We pray, Lord, unite your church.

  39. Bring peace to this city.

  40. Don't let the enemy bring division and bitterness and hatred into our hearts.

  41. Let us have the courage and wisdom to know how to listen well to others.

  42. How not to get sucked into anger, but to forgive and to bless and to love

  43. and to seek opportunities to share you and be light across this city.

  44. We need you to do that, Father, in us.

  45. Because it's so hard to respond the way you want us to respond.

  46. Please, we need you.

  47. We need you.

  48. Give us your grace, I pray.

  49. Father, we also want to keep praying for our kids and our youth

  50. as they're going back to school in this season.

  51. Father, we know these are challenging times to be young.

  52. And we pray, Lord, that we would not just see our kids and our youth as the next generation,

  53. but actually see them as this generation that you can use for your kingdom,

  54. that you want to draw to yourself and want to use, Lord, mightily in their schools

  55. and with the people around them, Lord.

  56. Father, we pray, bring them to yourself.

  57. Bring them to yourself so that they would have this sense of identity,

  58. not in their grades, not in how great their GPA is,

  59. but their sense of value and significance only in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  60. Father, would you give them courage to not be ashamed in their schools to stand up for you?

  61. Would you use them, we pray.

  62. And, Lord, we want to pray, Father, for the parents in Watermark.

  63. Lord, it is one of the hardest jobs.

  64. It is an impossible job unless you are the one who gives us the grace.

  65. And so I pray, teach the parents here to know how to disciple their kids well.

  66. Give them grace in the challenges.

  67. Help them not to live under the guilt of feeling like they've failed in so many ways,

  68. but let them rest in your unshakable kindness.

  69. And out of that, would they parent kids not just for outward behavior change

  70. or just to get great grades,

  71. but would you help us to know how to shepherd their hearts,

  72. to know you, to love you, to live for you in all of their lives.

  73. And, Father, we pray for us even as we start on this Revelation series.

  74. We pray for our hearts, Lord.

  75. We pray that you would speak to us.

  76. We pray against the enemy trying to distract us

  77. or trying to cause us to turn away from you or to get fearful.

  78. But, Lord, I pray, open our eyes to see you afresh.

  79. And we pray this in Jesus' mighty name.

  80. Amen.

  81. The scripture reading today comes from Revelation chapter 1.

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  82. Please follow along in your bulletins or on the screen.

  83. The revelation of Jesus Christ,

  84. which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place.

  85. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

  86. who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ,

  87. even to all that he saw.

  88. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy,

  89. and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it,

  90. for the time is near.

  91. John to the seven churches that are in Asia.

  92. Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come,

  93. and from the seven spirits who are before his throne,

  94. and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness,

  95. the firstborn of the dead and the ruler of kings on earth.

  96. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood

  97. and made us a kingdom, a priest to his God and Father,

  98. to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.

  99. Amen.

  100. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him.

  101. Even those who pierced him and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him.

  102. Even so, amen.

  103. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God,

  104. who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

  105. I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom

  106. and the patient endurance that are in Jesus,

  107. was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God

  108. and the testimony of Jesus.

  109. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day,

  110. and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying,

  111. write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches,

  112. to Ephesus, to Smyrna, and to Pergamum, and to Theatrera, and to Sardis,

  113. and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.

  114. Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me,

  115. and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,

  116. and in the midst of the lampstands was one like the son of man,

  117. clothed with a long robe, with a golden sash around his chest.

  118. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow,

  119. and his eyes were like the flame of a fire.

  120. His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace,

  121. and his voice was like the roar of many waters.

  122. In his right hand he held seven stars.

  123. From his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword,

  124. and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

  125. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead,

  126. but he laid his right hand on me, saying,

  127. Fear not, for I am the first and the last, and the living one.

  128. I died, and behold, I am alive forevermore,

  129. and I have the keys of death and Hades.

  130. Write, therefore, these things that you have seen,

  131. those that are, and those that are to take place after this.

  132. As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand,

  133. and the seven golden lampstands,

  134. the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches,

  135. and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

  136. This is the word of God.

  137. Great. Thank you, Jesse and Frankie.

  138. Welcome again to Watermark.

  139. If you don't know me, my name's Chris.

  140. I'm one of the leaders here.

  141. And we're starting on our series in Revelation.

  142. And I'm really excited about this series.

  143. In fact, I'm really, we would say in England, gutted,

  144. which means very disappointed that I'm not going to be around for a lot of the series,

  145. because this is one of my favorite books.

  146. And I think God is going to do something really significant in us through this series.

  147. And I think this is something which I think many of us,

  148. if you're honest, and I say the word revelation,

  149. you have a whole load of stuff that comes into your mind.

  150. Because quite frankly, revelation is weird, right?

  151. I mean, it's weird and it's scary,

  152. because you've got kind of dragons and you've got like locusts and you've got monsters.

  153. It feels a bit like Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings.

  154. A whole load of stuff.

  155. And to me, actually, as a Westerner, it's a little bit like Chinese opera.

  156. Because, you know, I look at it, bits of it look familiar,

  157. but I just don't get what on earth's going on.

  158. And I need someone to help and guide me in what it is.

  159. And this is the kind of book that's just got so many different interpretations.

  160. I mean, Revelation is the book for people who are conspiracy theorists.

  161. Okay?

  162. So, I just heard recently,

  163. someone said to me that Donald Trump is the beast.

  164. And the reason their logic went like this,

  165. they said, well, Donald Trump,

  166. they own a property which is at 666 Fifth Avenue,

  167. and he came to power in 2016.

  168. Which, if you put 666 plus 666 plus 6 plus 6 plus 6,

  169. together it makes 2016.

  170. I did the calculations.

  171. And over time, it's not just Donald Trump.

  172. I have heard, like, almost every U.S. president there's been.

  173. Stalin, Mao, King John Il, the European Union,

  174. and I have even heard, this is my favorite for the beast,

  175. the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

  176. But we're not going to be talking about Donatello very much in this series.

  177. And so what I want to do this morning is to actually spend some time introducing the book to you,

  178. because this book isn't a book written for crazy conspiracy theories.

  179. This book is about life and death.

  180. It's got a message that God wants to speak to us.

  181. You see, it's a bit like this.

  182. When Fiona and I took a wedding in Kosomui a few years ago,

  183. and we went out sea kayaking.

  184. And halfway through, our boat just capsized and overturned in the water.

  185. And we found ourselves being pulled out to the sea by the current of the waves.

  186. And it was a scary moment.

  187. And we looked over, and we could see the shore.

  188. And at that moment, I could see my flip-flops going, my sun creaking.

  189. Everything was floating out to the sea.

  190. And we grabbed onto the boat, and we just started swimming.

  191. We saw the shore, and we just started swimming as hard as we could to get to the shore.

  192. And we made it, because that's why I'm here today.

  193. Otherwise, I'd be out somewhere in the Indian Ocean.

  194. But I don't know if you've ever been swimming in the sea.

  195. And after a while, you suddenly kind of look up, and you realize that you've just got dragged out far further away from the shore than you realized.

  196. Isn't that a scary moment?

  197. And this is a little bit of what the book of Revelation is about.

  198. Because the book of Revelation is trying to give you a wake-up call to say, it's trying to show you, that's where the shoreline is.

  199. That's where the kingdom of God, that's where Jesus is.

  200. But actually, we're in a culture which has a tide of idolatry, which wants to pull you and drag you further and further away from God.

  201. And you've got to see both the danger that there is in being dragged out, but also the beauty that there is towards the shore.

  202. So it encourages you to keep swimming towards that shore.

  203. That is what Revelation is about.

  204. Because it says, no matter how difficult it is to swim against the tide, Jesus is with you and he's overcome.

  205. That's some of the message of Revelation.

  206. And so the book starts with this.

  207. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the things that must soon take place.

  208. And so here's a few things about what this book is.

  209. First of all, Revelation is a revelation.

  210. Now the word revelation in Greek means apocalypse.

  211. That's what the word is.

  212. But apocalypse doesn't mean like end of the world.

  213. Apocalypse means like an unveiling, a revealing.

  214. It's a bit like when you pull back the curtain and you see like on the stage, you see like what's behind the stage, what's behind the scenes.

  215. Or it's like if you kind of walk, you just walk into your home and someone's been cooking and you smell something and you're not sure what it is.

  216. So you go to the saucepan and you lift the lid and you're like, oh, now I see what it is.

  217. That is what Revelation is about.

  218. It's an unveiling.

  219. But what is it unveiling?

  220. What is it revealing?

  221. It's revealing behind the current events that are going on in the first century, there's a spiritual reality behind them.

  222. You see, this book is written to churches in Asia Minor, which is western Turkey.

  223. Some of us were there just a few months ago.

  224. And what you know at that time is the Roman Empire looks all powerful.

  225. In fact, peace, wealth, job security, career advancement, public approval, all of it is determined by how in favor you are with the Roman authorities around you and the religious system that goes along with it.

  226. So the Roman emperor at the time was a guy called Domitian.

  227. And there should be a little picture of him.

  228. Here we go.

  229. Handsome looking guy.

  230. But somebody said this, Domitian was a profoundly insecure man.

  231. To compensate for his insecurity, he ordered all citizens as subjects of the Roman Empire to worship him as Lord and God.

  232. All citizens were to go to a temple built in his honor, take a pinch of incense, throw it on the fire, and say, Caesar, kurios, Caesar is Lord.

  233. This is the background.

  234. And Asia Minor, where Revelation is written to, is the center of emperor worship in the whole of the Roman Empire.

  235. And it's filled with both worship of the emperor and all kinds of pagan gods.

  236. And everybody worships them except Christians and Jews.

  237. You see, the pull of the current was very strong to just go along with what everyone else was doing.

  238. And do you know in Revelation, there's a number of commands which are repeated.

  239. The most common commands are this.

  240. Behold.

  241. That means see.

  242. Look.

  243. And then don't fear.

  244. Behold.

  245. Stop looking in the natural, just the power of Domitian and the emperor around you.

  246. He thinks he's in control.

  247. But you've got to see with spiritual eyes who's really in control.

  248. Stop seeing human circumstances with your eyes.

  249. See them with my eyes.

  250. That's what Revelation is about.

  251. Behold.

  252. Do you see what's going on behind the scenes?

  253. Do you see?

  254. So, this is what apocalypse is.

  255. Revelation is.

  256. But how does an apocalypse work?

  257. And this is called kind of apocalyptic literature.

  258. So, Revelation is written in this style.

  259. We don't use it any longer.

  260. But it's really common in between 200 BC and 200 AD.

  261. And it has tons of kind of imagery in it.

  262. And why is it written with all this kind of imagery and things?

  263. Well, John, who we think was probably the last apostle alive, he wrote this book.

  264. And he could have gone, hey, Jesus wins.

  265. Just hold on tight.

  266. The end's coming.

  267. Don't worry.

  268. The end.

  269. See you, John.

  270. But he doesn't.

  271. Why doesn't he?

  272. Well, because advertisers know.

  273. If you're trying to sell a Tesla, you don't, your advert doesn't just have a little talking

  274. head of someone going, it's a good car.

  275. You should buy it.

  276. It's nice for the environment.

  277. No, a Tesla, what they do, they show you this dramatic kind of inspirational music.

  278. They show you these scenes of these cars gliding on impossible terrain.

  279. And the power.

  280. And you get this kind of visual feast.

  281. And at the end of it, then they bring you just to the Tesla logo.

  282. And by that point, you want to buy one.

  283. Because the idea is what Revelation is doing, it's bringing you full cinematic special effects.

  284. Because it wants to get to your emotions.

  285. It wants to feed your imagination.

  286. It wants to show you the beauty of the shore, but also the horror of getting pulled out to sea.

  287. It's trying to shake you up.

  288. That's what it's trying to do.

  289. Because do you know that your choices and my choices are not driven out of what I think,

  290. I just kind of believe in my head.

  291. They're also driven about what has captured your heart, your imagination, and your soul.

  292. And so John is trying to capture you.

  293. And so how does he do this?

  294. Okay.

  295. Well, one of the things he does in this is he uses lots of symbols.

  296. So I'm going to show you a picture.

  297. This picture was, oh, no, this should be another one.

  298. Yes, this one.

  299. This was produced this year.

  300. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

  301. Who?

  302. The guy on the left?

  303. Versus?

  304. Okay.

  305. Now, obviously there's little flags on there, but you know instantly what's going on, right?

  306. If you were to come to me and go, I didn't know that dragon's arm wrestled.

  307. You'd look at me and you'd go, you've missed the point, right?

  308. Because you know what the image means.

  309. Now, that's what Revelation is doing.

  310. There's all these images in it.

  311. And most of them are taken from Old Testament imagery.

  312. And the problem for many of us is actually our Old Testament is, you know, we're a little rusty on the Old Testament.

  313. But actually, you know, there's 404 verses in Revelation.

  314. About 280 or more of them have illusions to the Old Testament.

  315. So it's using all these images.

  316. So that's why if you get to things like plagues, it should remind you of Egypt and the Exodus.

  317. Or you get to beasts and kingdoms and it should remind you of Daniel.

  318. And all these kind of things in the first century context, John is applying the Old Testament into his context.

  319. With these images, which everyone would get.

  320. It's just we have to work a little bit harder because we're in a different context.

  321. But this is how apocalyptic literature works.

  322. We take the context and then we apply the image even into our context.

  323. So that's symbols.

  324. Another thing that apocalyptic literature does is numbers.

  325. You know, I heard one guy arguing with a scientist that the earth can't be round because in Revelation 7,

  326. it says the seven angels were standing at the four corners of the earth.

  327. Do you see, he's missed the point.

  328. It's meant to be talking about the whole earth.

  329. But, you know, we use numbers, right, to mean things.

  330. If I use number four in China, why has the lift not got the number four?

  331. Because it stands for death, right?

  332. Eight.

  333. What does eight mean?

  334. Prosperity.

  335. Fortune.

  336. Okay.

  337. If my wife says to me, I've told you a thousand times, don't put the sponge in the sink.

  338. Has she literally told me a thousand times?

  339. Probably.

  340. You get the point, right?

  341. So this is what apocalyptics is doing.

  342. And so the number seven you will see come up everywhere in this passage.

  343. Seven is the number of completeness or wholeness because of the number of days in creation.

  344. We've got completes creation.

  345. So there are seven churches here.

  346. Now they are seven real churches which met in houses,

  347. often before sunrise on Sundays.

  348. And they're all on the postal route.

  349. If you can show the picture.

  350. They're all on the Roman postal route.

  351. They go around.

  352. So the messenger would have just carried them around.

  353. One church to the next.

  354. But he uses the number seven though deliberately,

  355. not just to say it's written to them,

  356. but also this is a message for all of the church.

  357. And so that means when John wrote this,

  358. he didn't write it to us.

  359. He didn't say, dear watermark.

  360. But he did write it for us because the message is for our context as well.

  361. So revelation is a revelation, an apocalypse.

  362. It uses all this imagery.

  363. Okay?

  364. A couple more small things before we get on to it.

  365. It's also a prophecy.

  366. He says,

  367. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the word of the prophecy.

  368. Now when you hear prophecy,

  369. many of us think prediction into the future.

  370. Well, that's a small part of prophecy,

  371. but most prophecy in the Bible is actually God just speaking into the context,

  372. saying things like repent, don't fear.

  373. Okay?

  374. There's hope.

  375. Be encouraged.

  376. Okay?

  377. Judgment is coming, so just turn to him.

  378. That's what most prophecy is about.

  379. And so if you're kind of seeing revelation just as like the Left Behind series

  380. or anything like if any of you have ever watched any of those things,

  381. you might have missed what John is actually trying to say here.

  382. He's trying to speak to them and saying,

  383. God wants to speak to you now.

  384. Thus says the Lord.

  385. So it's a revelation.

  386. It's a prophecy.

  387. But it's also a letter.

  388. Someone would have come with a little scroll.

  389. Revelation would have been on a scroll, by the way.

  390. And they'd have opened it up.

  391. And he would have said,

  392. John, to the seven churches in Asia.

  393. And then the book ends with,

  394. The grace of Jesus be with you all.

  395. It was a normal letter.

  396. The whole book is a letter.

  397. Written to real people in a real context in the first century

  398. who were expected to understand it.

  399. Okay?

  400. So that's why he says,

  401. Blessed are the ones who reads it aloud,

  402. who hears it, people listening,

  403. but especially who keep what is written in it.

  404. They couldn't keep it if they didn't understand it.

  405. Okay?

  406. So if you think the beast is Barack Obama,

  407. Donald Trump, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,

  408. then clearly that's not what John has in mind

  409. because none of them knew about the turtles in the first century.

  410. Okay?

  411. Okay?

  412. It's not God's secret code.

  413. It's meant to be understood

  414. by all of us.

  415. Now, this is just introduction.

  416. Finally, I do have to say,

  417. there are some things in this book,

  418. and I've read this book quite a few times,

  419. I still don't get,

  420. and Kevin still won't get,

  421. and that's okay.

  422. There will be some bits in this book

  423. that probably you may disagree with.

  424. with the way that we share.

  425. That's okay.

  426. But don't lose sight of what John's message is.

  427. If you, and you're going to,

  428. in your CGs,

  429. you're going to be spending some time in this book,

  430. if you spend all your time in debates

  431. about whether the locusts

  432. are really U.S. Apache helicopters or not,

  433. you'll have missed the whole point

  434. of what John is trying to say to you.

  435. The idea is to get you swimming,

  436. keep swimming to Jesus,

  437. keep trusting Him,

  438. keep obeying Him,

  439. keep loving Him,

  440. keep repenting and relying on Him.

  441. The book's message is actually the same

  442. as the gospel message

  443. throughout the whole of the rest of Scripture.

  444. It's just written with special effects

  445. to wake you up

  446. so you don't fall asleep in the sermon.

  447. Okay?

  448. So, do you get that?

  449. It's a revelation,

  450. it's a prophecy,

  451. it's a letter.

  452. Shall we get into the book?

  453. Great.

  454. Let's get going.

  455. Okay.

  456. Verse 4.

  457. Grace to you,

  458. and peace from Him who is,

  459. and who was,

  460. and who is to come,

  461. and from the seven spirits

  462. who are before His throne,

  463. and from Jesus Christ,

  464. the faithful witness,

  465. the firstborn of the dead,

  466. and the ruler of kings on earth.

  467. Who is this letter from?

  468. It's from the Trinitarian God.

  469. He says,

  470. He who is and was and is to come,

  471. that's a reference to Exodus,

  472. where the Egyptian Pharaoh

  473. seemed all-powerful.

  474. Moses is to go to Him,

  475. and Moses says,

  476. Who do I say has sent you?

  477. He says,

  478. I am who I am.

  479. God's saying,

  480. I'm the eternal one.

  481. Don't define me by any ruler

  482. because I have existed

  483. before anybody else.

  484. And it says,

  485. It's from Him.

  486. And if I walk into Watermark this morning

  487. with a letter saying,

  488. Hey guys,

  489. the eternal Father,

  490. the Spirit of God,

  491. which is what the seven spirits are,

  492. and Jesus Christ,

  493. who is the supreme one,

  494. who is the one who testified to His Father

  495. even unto death,

  496. the firstborn one,

  497. the supreme over death,

  498. the one who is the head

  499. over every chief executive,

  500. every president,

  501. every ruler,

  502. He's got a message for you this morning.

  503. Would you sit up and listen?

  504. If He said,

  505. I want to reveal to you

  506. and show you behind the scenes

  507. what's going on in your life right now,

  508. would you sit up and listen?

  509. Because God does have a message

  510. for us this morning

  511. through the book of Revelation.

  512. And what He's going to say,

  513. He's going to say

  514. some incredible things,

  515. but He starts off,

  516. John,

  517. with this fact

  518. that God Himself

  519. wants to speak to us.

  520. That's mind-blowing.

  521. He then goes into praise

  522. and He goes,

  523. Do you know what He's saying?

  524. He's saying,

  525. this God wants you little small churches,

  526. before anything else,

  527. He wants you to know

  528. that He loves you.

  529. Watermark,

  530. that He loves us.

  531. Did you get that?

  532. That He loves us.

  533. I mean,

  534. that's just insane.

  535. And His love

  536. is not conditioned

  537. by anything that's happening

  538. in this city right now.

  539. His love is not conditioned

  540. by the circumstances

  541. in your family right now.

  542. It's not conditioned

  543. by your health

  544. or your job situation.

  545. Do you want to know

  546. how you know

  547. the Trinitarian God loves you?

  548. Because of the cross.

  549. He says,

  550. He freed us from our sins

  551. by His blood.

  552. You know,

  553. I was speaking to a lady

  554. just last week

  555. and she came to me

  556. and she said,

  557. you know,

  558. we've been trying to have a baby

  559. for a year now

  560. and we haven't been able

  561. to conceive

  562. and I'm not sure

  563. whether God really loves me.

  564. And I think John

  565. would go to her,

  566. I know it's hard.

  567. But don't look

  568. with human wisdom

  569. in your circumstances here.

  570. Behold,

  571. see,

  572. don't fear.

  573. See the cross.

  574. See,

  575. my love is grounded

  576. in the fact

  577. that I've given

  578. everything for you.

  579. I shed my blood

  580. to set you free,

  581. to make you my people,

  582. to make you a kingdom,

  583. which means

  584. you make you mine,

  585. to make you my priest,

  586. which means you have access

  587. into my presence.

  588. I've done everything

  589. to bring you to myself,

  590. to set you free

  591. from shame

  592. and sin

  593. and fear.

  594. Don't you know

  595. that I love you?

  596. And then he goes,

  597. behold,

  598. he's coming

  599. on the clouds.

  600. Jesus is coming.

  601. And he doesn't just say,

  602. Jesus will come.

  603. He says,

  604. no,

  605. no,

  606. no,

  607. you've got to see

  608. Jesus coming

  609. as imminent,

  610. as close,

  611. as present,

  612. because he wants

  613. to shape

  614. the way you view

  615. your present circumstances

  616. in the light of him.

  617. And he says,

  618. one day,

  619. everyone who mocks

  620. your faith,

  621. who think it's just

  622. wishful thinking,

  623. this Jesus stuff,

  624. one day they will see him

  625. and the tribes

  626. on the earth

  627. will wail

  628. on account of him

  629. because they will be,

  630. they will see him

  631. on the shore

  632. and they'll see

  633. how far away

  634. they were swept out

  635. to see.

  636. But can you see him?

  637. Can you see his coming?

  638. Why do they need

  639. to hear this?

  640. Let's go to verse 9.

  641. I, John,

  642. your brother and partner

  643. in the tribulation

  644. and kingdom

  645. and patient endurance

  646. that are in Jesus,

  647. was on the isle of Patmos.

  648. Well,

  649. Patmos is just about

  650. a few hours away

  651. from the Turkish coastline.

  652. But John is exiled there

  653. because he's been

  654. preaching the gospel.

  655. Because he,

  656. he's realized

  657. this is not a popular message

  658. at their time.

  659. To say Jesus

  660. as Lord and God

  661. is to say

  662. Emperor Domitian

  663. is not.

  664. And that doesn't

  665. go down very well.

  666. They say,

  667. your gods

  668. are actually false gods.

  669. And the churches

  670. are either facing

  671. compromise

  672. or persecution.

  673. Either hide your faith,

  674. blend in,

  675. try and kind of go

  676. with the flow

  677. of the current

  678. or stand up

  679. and be prepared

  680. that actually

  681. it may cost you.

  682. Just imagine

  683. if you're a parent,

  684. someone putting

  685. a knife

  686. to the throat

  687. of your child

  688. and telling you,

  689. all you have to do

  690. is deny Jesus

  691. and just say

  692. Caesar is Lord

  693. and we'll let them go.

  694. Can you feel the pain?

  695. This is where

  696. the Christianity

  697. gets real.

  698. Where,

  699. when Jesus says,

  700. if you acknowledge

  701. me before men,

  702. I will acknowledge you.

  703. If you deny me

  704. before men,

  705. I will deny you.

  706. And suddenly,

  707. it feels so much

  708. more real.

  709. And it hasn't happened

  710. to all the churches yet,

  711. but just down the road

  712. in Pergamum,

  713. it has.

  714. One of the guys

  715. was just killed

  716. not long ago

  717. for their faith.

  718. And John's saying

  719. there's a cost

  720. to following Jesus.

  721. Is it worth it?

  722. You know,

  723. in Iraq,

  724. in Syria,

  725. in India,

  726. in Somalia,

  727. even in parts of China,

  728. our brothers and sisters

  729. are facing

  730. the same kind of thing.

  731. And we may not be

  732. under death threat,

  733. daily.

  734. I think most of us,

  735. that feels a little

  736. distant for us

  737. in Hong Kong.

  738. But John would still say

  739. we are a partner

  740. in God's kingdom,

  741. the shoreline,

  742. in the hope,

  743. but also a partner

  744. in the tribulation,

  745. in the suffering.

  746. There is a cost.

  747. This is kind of

  748. the hard part.

  749. You know,

  750. for us,

  751. maybe it's losing

  752. a business deal.

  753. Maybe it's losing

  754. a guy that you

  755. really like.

  756. Maybe it's losing

  757. a job

  758. or losing

  759. a friendship.

  760. Maybe it's been

  761. called intolerant

  762. or bigoted

  763. or homophobic

  764. or something like that.

  765. Following Jesus'

  766. costs,

  767. and the current

  768. can seem strong,

  769. but he wants to say,

  770. Jesus is coming.

  771. Can you see him?

  772. Can you see him?

  773. And so then,

  774. John,

  775. in the light of this

  776. kind of hard

  777. place,

  778. what he does,

  779. we're going to now see

  780. John has

  781. actually four visions.

  782. The book is structured,

  783. there's four visions there.

  784. We're just going to look

  785. at the first one.

  786. So,

  787. the first one

  788. is a vision

  789. of Jesus himself.

  790. How are we doing?

  791. Good.

  792. you see,

  793. John has this vision

  794. and he hears

  795. this voice behind him.

  796. You see,

  797. it's all kind of

  798. cinematic.

  799. I can't even say the word.

  800. So,

  801. he hears this voice

  802. behind him

  803. and he turns around

  804. and he sees

  805. seven golden lampstands,

  806. which we know later on

  807. are the churches

  808. that he's writing to.

  809. That's what they stand for.

  810. And why are they lampstands?

  811. Because the lampstands

  812. were in the temple of God

  813. in his presence

  814. and they would burn.

  815. So,

  816. when you walked in,

  817. it would have been dark

  818. and you walk in

  819. and you see

  820. these lampstands

  821. burning with candles

  822. on them.

  823. They are light

  824. in the darkness.

  825. That is what the churches

  826. are supposed to be.

  827. Light in the darkness

  828. of the world around them.

  829. And then what he sees,

  830. he's saying,

  831. these little tiny churches,

  832. they're only 20,

  833. 30 people,

  834. something like that,

  835. like a big community group.

  836. You are the light

  837. in the midst

  838. of all this powerful empire.

  839. You are my light.

  840. Watermark,

  841. you are my light.

  842. And in the midst

  843. of the lampstands,

  844. who does he see?

  845. And this is beautiful.

  846. I love this.

  847. He sees Jesus.

  848. He sees his vision.

  849. And Jesus hasn't gone

  850. on holiday

  851. in the midst

  852. of the pressure

  853. that they're facing

  854. and the uncertainty.

  855. He's not missing in action.

  856. Jesus is right

  857. at the center

  858. of the churches.

  859. This is,

  860. I just think

  861. this is beautiful.

  862. Liverpool.

  863. You know,

  864. I'm a Liverpool fan.

  865. And do you know what,

  866. does anyone know,

  867. what is Liverpool's

  868. theme song?

  869. Here we're going to test

  870. whether you're really

  871. true human beings

  872. or not.

  873. Pat?

  874. Yes, Pat,

  875. would you like to sing it?

  876. No, it's okay.

  877. You'll never walk alone.

  878. I'm not even going to sing.

  879. You'll never walk alone.

  880. That is their song.

  881. And you'll hear it

  882. all the time

  883. when they're playing.

  884. And that is actually

  885. the song

  886. that Jesus wants

  887. to sing to them.

  888. Do you know

  889. that you'll never walk alone?

  890. Do you know

  891. it doesn't matter

  892. in the midst of the fear,

  893. in the midst of the uncertainty,

  894. in the midst of everything

  895. that's going on,

  896. you'll never walk alone.

  897. You may feel small,

  898. insignificant,

  899. powerless,

  900. but do you see him?

  901. Do you behold him?

  902. He's with you.

  903. And if you know

  904. who it is who's with you,

  905. it changes everything.

  906. Because here now

  907. he begins to unpack

  908. what he sees.

  909. And he sees one

  910. like a son of man,

  911. clothed with a long robe

  912. and a golden sash

  913. around his chest.

  914. And the picture is

  915. from the book of Daniel,

  916. where the Ancient of Days,

  917. God himself,

  918. takes his seat to rule.

  919. And then this God-man figure

  920. comes up to him

  921. and he is given a kingdom.

  922. And Jesus

  923. is this son of man

  924. given a kingdom

  925. and he's dressed

  926. in the robes

  927. of the high priest

  928. with a golden sash

  929. around his waist.

  930. Sorry,

  931. around his chest.

  932. I don't know if you know,

  933. normally,

  934. if you're about to get to work,

  935. you put a sash around,

  936. it's like a kind of belt,

  937. around your waist.

  938. But if you put it around here,

  939. that shows that you've

  940. already done your work.

  941. The work's finished.

  942. Jesus' work

  943. of saving us,

  944. he's dealt with sin,

  945. he's dealt with pain,

  946. he's dealt with death,

  947. he's our great high priest,

  948. brings us into access

  949. into his presence.

  950. And then the hairs

  951. of his head

  952. are white

  953. like wool,

  954. like white wool,

  955. like snow.

  956. Now,

  957. I don't know about you,

  958. that kind of,

  959. that seems a bit weird.

  960. But in our culture,

  961. you know,

  962. we tend to value

  963. kind of youth

  964. and like,

  965. if you get grey hairs,

  966. my wife cuts mine out

  967. and I'm sure,

  968. like,

  969. you probably dye yours

  970. because we don't get the idea

  971. that actually,

  972. white grey hair

  973. is a sign of wisdom

  974. and also the whiteness

  975. is purity.

  976. So here is the man,

  977. here is the God man

  978. who has all wisdom,

  979. who knows exactly

  980. what he's doing

  981. and he does it right.

  982. And do you know

  983. in Daniel's vision

  984. who had white hair,

  985. it was God himself.

  986. What he's saying

  987. is Jesus is divine.

  988. He is God himself.

  989. And he's saying,

  990. and then he looks at him

  991. and he sees his eyes

  992. are like a flame

  993. of burning fire.

  994. They're like lasers.

  995. And you know,

  996. fire burns,

  997. it penetrates,

  998. it purifies.

  999. What he's saying is,

  1000. if his eyes

  1001. are like fire,

1002. they can see right through

  1003. every facade

  1004. you ever put up.

  1005. They can see

  1006. right beyond

  1007. every fake smile

  1008. you put on

  1009. right into your heart.

  1010. You see,

  1011. Jesus doesn't deal

  1012. with pretenses

  1013. and excuses.

1014. He knows what's going on

  1015. right in your heart

  1016. right now.

  1017. And if you are

  1018. right now

  1019. feeling a million miles

  1020. away from God

1021. and we come into church

1022. and we all put up

  1023. our nice mask,

1024. Jesus sees right through it.

  1025. He knows exactly

  1026. where you are.

  1027. There's nothing

  1028. that's hidden.

  1029. You're naked

  1030. before him.

  1031. That feels scary,

  1032. doesn't it?

  1033. Except if you know

  1034. that he's the one

  1035. who loves you

  1036. and has freed you

  1037. from your sins

  1038. and you can run

  1039. to him.

1040. So what that means is

  1041. we don't come pretending

  1042. before Jesus any longer.

  1043. Do you know,

  1044. in Watermark,

  1045. there is no room

  1046. for fake Christianity.

  1047. Do you know that?

1048. If you're in pain today

  1049. and you think

  1050. you've just got to

1051. put on a brave face

  1052. and pretend

  1053. that you're fine,

  1054. Jesus sees through that

  1055. and he wants

  1056. to draw you

  1057. to himself.

  1058. Don't be fake

  1059. within.

  1060. He sees

  1061. and he wants

  1062. to free you

  1063. from your shame.

  1064. Do you see him?

  1065. And then his feet

  1066. are like burnished bronze

  1067. and they're on fire,

  1068. which is the idea

  1069. of strength

  1070. and purity.

  1071. He's unshakable.

  1072. You know,

  1073. bronze is heavy.

  1074. No political circumstance

  1075. or persecution

  1076. can move him

  1077. off balance.

  1078. And then his voice

  1079. is like mighty waters.

  1080. His voice drowns out

  1081. every other voice.

  1082. He is glorious.

1083. And the last two things

  1084. in this list,

  1085. he says,

  1086. in his right hand

  1087. he has seven stars,

1088. which are the seven angels.

  1089. And the word angel

  1090. means messenger.

  1091. And some people

  1092. have thought

  1093. that actually

  1094. the seven angels

  1095. were kind of like

  1096. the pastors

  1097. of the churches.

  1098. Which I think

  1099. is an amazing thought

1100. if you think about it

  1101. because I know

  1102. like Ed and Oscar

  1103. and Kevin and Simon,

  1104. they look beautiful.

  1105. But I don't know

  1106. if I've ever called

  1107. them angels before.

  1108. I mean,

  1109. angel Kevin

  1110. just led us before.

  1111. Right.

  1112. No,

  1113. the angel,

  1114. you know,

  1115. angel in the book

  1116. of Revelation

1117. has a very specific meaning.

  1118. It means angel.

  1119. And so,

  1120. what he's saying though

  1121. is that every church

  1122. that he's writing to,

  1123. this is extraordinary,

1124. has in the heavenly realms,

  1125. in the spiritual realms,

  1126. has before God

  1127. a representative

  1128. who looks over us.

  1129. There's something

  1130. behind the scenes,

  1131. even with watermark.

  1132. Which is,

  1133. I think that's incredible

  1134. because you think,

  1135. we worry,

1136. will we have enough finances?

1137. Will we have more people

1138. like on a Sunday or not?

  1139. But he's saying,

  1140. the angels,

  1141. he holds them

  1142. in his hands.

  1143. And so,

  1144. if Jesus holds

  1145. the very spiritual

  1146. representatives

  1147. in his hands,

1148. then why are we worrying?

  1149. Why do we worry

  1150. about all our finances

1151. and all the other things?

  1152. He's already got us.

  1153. Do you see him?

1154. Stop seeing in the natural.

  1155. See behind.

  1156. Last thing

  1157. of this list.

  1158. He's got a sharp,

  1159. two-edged sword

1160. coming out of his mouth.

1161. This is how you know

  1162. that you're not supposed

  1163. to take this literally.

  1164. Because

1165. it would be very awkward

  1166. to have a conversation

  1167. with someone

  1168. like a meter-long piece

1169. of metal in their mouth,

  1170. right?

  1171. Just turn around.

  1172. Oops, sorry.

  1173. Right?

  1174. It's not meant

  1175. to be taken

  1176. literally there.

  1177. It actually comes

  1178. from Isaiah 42

  1179. where God brings

  1180. his servant

  1181. to bring justice

  1182. and he said,

  1183. you made my mouth

  1184. like a sharp sword.

  1185. What he's talking about

  1186. is talking about

  1187. Jesus' word.

1188. That just with a word,

  1189. Jesus has power.

  1190. I don't know,

  1191. like,

  1192. authorities and rulers

1193. have to use military force

  1194. to enforce their own

  1195. authority and power,

  1196. right?

1197. They have to bring in troops

1198. to kind of gain control

  1199. of something.

  1200. Jesus doesn't.

1201. He just needs a word.

  1202. You know,

  1203. in creation,

  1204. what does God need?

1205. He needs just a word

1206. to speak things into life.

  1207. You see,

  1208. in Hong Kong,

  1209. in our present circumstances,

  1210. all it needs

  1211. is just one word

  1212. from Jesus

  1213. and everything

  1214. would change.

  1215. Just one word.

  1216. Do you see him?

  1217. He's got the power

  1218. to condemn

  1219. and the power

  1220. to equip.

  1221. His word hasn't got

1222. a blunt edge to it.

  1223. That's why it's two-edged.

  1224. It cuts.

1225. As the rain comes out,

  1226. isn't it sometimes

  1227. hard to believe, though?

  1228. When you look around

  1229. and the world

  1230. sometimes seems

  1231. so messed up

  1232. and you go,

  1233. is Jesus really

  1234. that authoritative?

  1235. I mean,

  1236. really?

  1237. Does he really

  1238. have that power?

  1239. And John

  1240. in the book

  1241. of Revelation

  1242. is going to go,

  1243. behold,

  1244. see with the eyes

  1245. of faith,

1246. I want to show you,

1247. I want this to go

  1248. from here

  1249. down to here.

  1250. And you know,

  1251. he keeps going,

  1252. do you see him?

  1253. Because how do you

  1254. respond when you

  1255. see Jesus?

  1256. How do you respond

  1257. when you see Jesus?

  1258. You know,

  1259. I have friends

  1260. who go,

  1261. when I see Jesus,

1262. I'm going to ask him

  1263. why I didn't get

  1264. that job.

1265. Or I'm going to ask him

1266. why he didn't let me

  1267. date that person.

  1268. I don't think

  1269. you will.

  1270. Because when

  1271. John sees Jesus,

  1272. he falls down

  1273. at his feet

  1274. as though dead.

  1275. He's not giving

  1276. Jesus a quiz.

  1277. He's just

  1278. stunned.

  1279. He just falls down.

  1280. He's on the floor.

  1281. He's laid out.

  1282. He's trembling.

  1283. He's going,

  1284. man,

  1285. I'm dead.

  1286. I wonder,

  1287. do we ever see

  1288. Jesus like that?

1289. Or do we just have

  1290. what I call

  1291. cuddly Jesus?

  1292. You know,

  1293. he's got a nice

  1294. little lamb

  1295. in his shoulder.

  1296. Right?

  1297. That's often our

  1298. picture of Jesus.

  1299. And this picture

  1300. is actually,

  1301. it's a little bit

  1302. scary.

  1303. Right?

  1304. But what I love

  1305. is the next part.

  1306. Because we must

  1307. have that vision

  1308. of Jesus.

  1309. But then he goes,

  1310. Jesus puts his

  1311. strong right hand

  1312. in John and says,

  1313. fear not.

  1314. I'm the first

  1315. and the last

  1316. and the living

  1317. one.

  1318. I've overcome.

  1319. Because if you know

  1320. that I am the

  1321. awesome,

  1322. fearful one,

  1323. then just a word

  1324. from me will drive

  1325. out all the other

  1326. things that you're

  1327. afraid of.

  1328. You know,

  1329. I knew someone

  1330. who had a guard

  1331. dog called Al.

  1332. Al.

  1333. And Al was one

  1334. of those kind

  1335. of dogs that

  1336. you were like,

  1337. don't mess with

  1338. me kind of

  1339. dogs,

  1340. you know?

  1341. And so,

  1342. but with his

  1343. family,

  1344. he was like the

  1345. most loyal dog.

  1346. He would die

  1347. for them.

  1348. He was like,

  1349. he was so tender

  1350. and gentle.

  1351. He would lick

  1352. them.

  1353. They'd just be,

  1354. like just so,

  1355. like the three

  1356. year old kid

  1357. could go up to

  1358. him and just

  1359. kind of stroke

  1360. him and be

  1361. beautiful.

  1362. But when a

  1363. stranger came

  1364. up,

  1365. suddenly he'd

  1366. get on all

  1367. fours and

  1368. would start

  1369. growling.

  1370. And if that

  1371. person started

  1372. backing away,

  1373. then he would

  1374. start moving

  1375. closer towards

  1376. him.

  1377. Because Al

  1378. was a guard

  1379. dog.

  1380. And though

  1381. he was tender

  1382. and gentle,

  1383. he was also

  1384. fierce.

  1385. But if you

  1386. walk down the

  1387. road with Al

  1388. into like a

  1389. rough neighborhood

  1390. where you

  1391. would never

  1392. normally go,

  1393. you know that

  1394. you'd be fine.

  1395. Because you're

  1396. with Al.

  1397. And his

  1398. presence with

  1399. you is your

  1400. confidence.

  1401. Because you

  1402. knew that he

  1403. was a guard

  1404. dog.

  1405. But he was

  1406. also a tender

  1407. guard dog.

  1408. This is

  1409. John's picture

  1410. of Jesus.

  1411. he loves

  1412. us.

  1413. He's given

  1414. everything for

  1415. us.

  1416. But are we

  1417. close to him

  1418. or are we

  1419. running from

  1420. him?

  1421. Because right

  1422. now in Hong

  1423. Kong there's a

  1424. lot of fear.

  1425. Let me ask

  1426. you, what are

  1427. you afraid of?

  1428. Is it the

  1429. economy?

  1430. Is it your

  1431. investments

  1432. failing?

  1433. Is it your

  1434. health?

  1435. Is it

  1436. loneliness?

  1437. Maybe never

  1438. getting a

  1439. boyfriend or a

  1440. girlfriend?

  1441. Is it

  1442. barrenness?

  1443. Is it your

  1444. boss or your

  1445. family?

  1446. Never able to

  1447. draw good

  1448. boundaries?

  1449. Is it sharing

  1450. your faith with

  1451. others?

  1452. We don't need,

  1453. Watermark, a

  1454. cuddly Jesus.

  1455. We need to

  1456. behold him for

  1457. who he is.

  1458. We don't come

  1459. lightly before

  1460. him.

  1461. We don't treat

  1462. him lightly in

  1463. our office when

  1464. we're tempted to

  1465. just go and

  1466. hide our

  1467. faith and

  1468. just go along

  1469. with the flow

  1470. of everything

  1471. else.

  1472. We don't

  1473. treat him

  1474. lightly in

  1475. our fears.

  1476. But the

  1477. Trinitarian

  1478. eternal God

  1479. has a message

  1480. for us this

  1481. morning.

  1482. Just think of

  1483. the things you're

  1484. afraid of.

  1485. What's the

  1486. worst thing that

  1487. could happen to

  1488. you?

  1489. What's the

  1490. worst that could

  1491. happen to you?

  1492. Isn't it

  1493. ultimately that

  1494. we could die

  1495. or your

  1496. family could

  1497. die or your

  1498. dreams could

  1499. die?

  1500. Jesus says,

  1501. I have the

  1502. keys of

  1503. death and

  1504. Hades.

  1505. You know,

  1506. someone said

  1507. Jesus went

  1508. into the

  1509. prison of

  1510. death and

  1511. he came out

  1512. with the

  1513. keys.

  1514. You see,

  1515. he holds the

  1516. keys.

  1517. So if you

  1518. lose the

  1519. most precious

  1520. thing to

  1521. you,

  1522. even if

  1523. you die,

  1524. he's got

  1525. the keys

  1526. just to

  1527. open the

  1528. door to

  1529. life.

  1530. You know,

  1531. he's just

  1532. not,

  1533. I've just

  1534. got the

  1535. keys to

  1536. the economy

  1537. on my

  1538. key ring.

  1539. It's not

  1540. just I've

  1541. got the

  1542. keys to

  1543. your personal

  1544. security on

  1545. my key ring.

  1546. I've got the

  1547. keys to

  1548. death and

  1549. your entire

  1550. future for

  1551. eternity.

  1552. Behold,

  1553. see,

  1554. do not

  1555. fear,

  1556. but come

  1557. to me.

  1558. My dad

  1559. last week

  1560. had a

  1561. stroke.

  1562. He's

  1563. making good

  1564. progress now.

  1565. But in

  1566. one second

  1567. he went

  1568. from

  1569. normality

  1570. to ICU.

  1571. Everything

  1572. just stripped

  1573. away.

  1574. It's

  1575. scary.

  1576. my brother,

  1577. 26

  1578. years old,

  1579. 76 years

  1580. old,

  1581. died from

  1582. brain cancer.

  1583. Scary.

  1584. But if

  1585. Jesus holds

  1586. the keys

  1587. to

  1588. resurrection

  1589. life,

  1590. then I

  1591. don't need

  1592. to live

  1593. in fear.

  1594. We don't

  1595. need to

  1596. live in

  1597. fear.

  1598. Because no

  1599. chief executive,

  1600. no president,

  1601. no ruler,

  1602. demission,

  1603. nobody else

  1604. has that

  1605. kind of

  1606. power.

  1607. Only

  1608. Jesus does.

  1609. Only

  1610. Jesus does.

  1611. He loves

  1612. us.

  1613. He died

  1614. for us

  1615. to free

  1616. us from

  1617. our sins.

  1618. And he's

  1619. calling every

  1620. one of us

  1621. to run

  1622. to him

  1623. today,

  1624. wherever

  1625. you are.

  1626. Bring

  1627. all of

  1628. your fear

  1629. to him.

  1630. if the

  1631. government

  1632. came in

  1633. and shut

  1634. down this

  1635. church,

  1636. Jesus

  1637. wouldn't

  1638. move a

  1639. muscle.

  1640. He's got

  1641. the keys.

  1642. His

  1643. presence,

  1644. in his

  1645. presence,

  1646. there is

  1647. freedom.

  1648. Do you

  1649. see him?

  1650. There's

  1651. no fear.

  1652. Let's

  1653. pray.

  1654. Let's

  1655. pray.

  1656. Let's

  1657. pray.

  1658. Let's

  1659. pray.

  1660. Let's

  1661. pray.

  1662. Father,

  1663. I just

  1664. I

  1665. realize how

  1666. small my

  1667. view of

  1668. you is.

  1669. Father,

  1670. I pray

  1671. for us

  1672. show us

  1673. Jesus.

  1674. We don't

  1675. want our

  1676. little view

  1677. of Jesus.

  1678. We want

  1679. who you

  1680. really are.

  1681. The one

  1682. who loves

  1683. us so

  1684. much that

  1685. you'd die

  1686. for us.

  1687. For the

  1688. one who

  1689. is awesome

  1690. that we

  1691. don't want

  1692. to tread

  1693. lightly

  1694. with you.

  1695. Father,

  1696. I pray for

  1697. those of

  1698. us who

  1699. right now,

  1700. we know

  1701. that we're

  1702. running

  1703. away from

  1704. you.

  1705. Our

  1706. hearts are

  1707. distracted.

  1708. Father,

  1709. I pray for

  1710. a wake

  1711. up call

  1712. this

  1713. morning.

  1714. Show

  1715. us

  1716. yourself.

  1717. I pray

  1718. for those

  1719. of us

  1720. who are

  1721. struggling.

  1722. Things

  1723. around us

  1724. seem

  1725. overwhelming.

  1726. We

  1727. wonder how

  1728. we can

  1729. really hold

  1730. on to

  1731. you.

  1732. show us

  1733. that you

  1734. have

  1735. overcome.

  1736. We

  1737. just need

  1738. to hold

  1739. on to
