  1. Heavenly Father, we come before you with expectancy, knowing that you have already gone the distance for us,

  2. that your desire is to bless us, to grow us, to encourage us, to equip us,

  3. to convict us of our sins, to free us from bondage.

  4. Lord, help us to have that expectancy this morning.

  5. Holy Spirit, we ask that you will open our eyes to see, our ears to hear,

  6. open our minds to understand what you would teach us in your word this morning, in Jesus' name.

  7. Amen. Please take a seat.

  8. We'll finish off our summer series on the crucified Messiah this morning,

  9. and we'll be looking at Christ dying as a ransom.

  10. Christ dying as a ransom.

  11. But before we get into the idea of Christ dying for a ransom, we have to talk about slavery.

  12. Slavery is among, if not one of the most detestable evils in the world.

  13. When we talk about evils, evil is bad, evil is evil.

  14. There's kind of degrees of evil.

  15. Slavery is up there.

  16. There are tens of millions of slaves worldwide.

  17. There are Southeast Asians in the Gulf countries that are essentially forced laborers.

  18. We have people that are trafficked into all sorts of prostitution in North America,

  19. in cities all over the place, maybe even Ottawa.

  20. There are some 30 to 40 million slaves worldwide.

  21. I mean, who knows the actual number?

  22. But I want to put forward to you this morning that there are many more than 30 to 40 million slaves.

  23. I want to put forward to you that the very human condition is riddled,

  24. is one with abject, is a condition that is full on with abject slavery.

  25. The idea of ransoming in the scriptures and in our text this morning,

  26. it might bring to mind this idea of somebody kidnapping a rich person's daughter or son

  27. and demanding a ransom, $10 million, or we're going to kill your child.

  28. And although that most certainly is ransoming,

  29. the picture that we're going to see in the Bible is actually the ransoming of one from slavery.

  30. A slave, a bondservant, was somebody without any rights.

  31. They were owned by another human being.

  32. And if they wanted to enjoy freedom, they had to be redeemed.

  33. They had to be ransomed.

  34. In John chapter 8, Jesus speaks to a crowd of Jewish people.

    John 8 chapter mention

  35. Some were skeptical, antagonistic.

  36. Others were sympathetic.

  37. They were believers.

  38. But he said this to them,

  39. If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.

  40. And you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

  41. They, some of the people that believed in him,

  42. they answered him,

  43. We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone.

  44. How is it that you say you will become free?

  45. Interesting.

  46. Just a quick pause.

  47. The Israelites were enslaved to people.

  48. They spent 400 years enslaved in Egypt.

  49. Egyptian slavery.

  50. In fact, every year there is a feast commemorating the exodus from slavery.

  51. It's called Passover.

  52. For them to say such a...

  53. It's like if you're going to lie, you've got to lie well, right?

  54. You don't lie in such a way that is just obvious.

  55. That you're not telling the truth.

  56. And Jesus could have totally refuted them in the same way I just did.

  57. But instead, he doesn't refute them by reminding them of their ethnic experience.

  58. Instead, he appeals to the human experience.

  59. And this is what he says.

  60. Jesus answered them,

  61. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  62. Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.

  63. The slave does not remain in the house forever.

  64. The son remains forever.

  65. So if the son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

  66. Notice.

  67. Guys, we do the Passover every year.

  68. No, no, no.

  69. He doesn't mention that.

  70. He said, if you practice slavery, or if you practice sin, you are a slave to sin.

  71. You are in bondage.

  72. You are a slave.

  73. And Jesus said it to a group of people 2,000 years ago.

  74. But he says it to us this morning.

  75. There is most certainly slavery throughout the world.

  76. And apart from the obvious crazy stuff that I gave a couple examples of just a few moments ago,

  77. slavery is ubiquitous in our world in the human heart.

  78. For some of us, this might be hard to accept.

  79. It may even be offensive, ridiculous to your ears for me to say such thing.

  80. Look at us.

  81. We are very free people.

  82. We live in a free society.

  83. We have freedom to come and to go, to practice religion,

  84. to acquire wealth, to spend things the way we want.

  85. We're free people.

  86. This sounds a bit ridiculous.

  87. And I can sympathize with that.

  88. If this is you, I would say, just stick with me.

  89. Keep your ears open.

  90. Keep your mind open to the truth that scripture speaks of.

  91. Because, again, if it's true, it will set you free.

  92. Maybe you're a Christian here and you've heard this,

  93. this idea of God redeeming us.

  94. And you're like, yeah, I've heard this.

  95. Like, for the thousandth time, it's old hat.

  96. This is where you hit the off button.

  97. Lights are on, but nobody's home.

  98. You're thinking of whatever sports game or what you have to do when you go home.

  99. I would say to you, keep your ears perked.

  100. Hear this afresh for another time.

  101. One more time.

  102. Because, again, this is truth, and the truth shall set you free.

  103. Let's read our text this morning.

  104. And I'm going to be reading it a number of times.

  105. And I want this truth to get deep down.

  106. So Matt read 1 Timothy 2, 1 to 7.

  107. We're actually going to only be in two verses, one sentence.

  108. Verses 5 and 6 is one sentence over two verses.

  109. And I'll begin in verse 5 of 1 Timothy 2.

  110. justamente 2 verse 6.

  111. Again,

  112. For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men,

  113. the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all,

  114. which is the testimony given at the proper time.

  115. Our text this morning will show us that our only hope for redemption from slavery to sin is through a ransoming.

  116. A ransoming that we have an inability to pay and desperately long for.

  117. It's a ransoming that was done freely and lovingly.

  118. It was carried out according to God's will at his appointed time and was mediated by the only one who could ever mediate it,

  119. Jesus Christ.

  120. He mediates it between the perfect creator God and the broken, sinful humanity.

  121. We are created in God's image and he is reconciling us back to the creator whose image we bear.

  122. So we're going to look at three things in our text that talk about the idea of ransom and what it means to be ransomed.

  123. The first is what are we ransomed from?

  124. The second thing is what are we ransomed for?

  125. The third thing is how is this accomplished?

  126. So what are we ransomed from?

  127. What are we ransomed for?

  128. And how this is accomplished?

  129. So I'm going to read one more time.

  130. First Timothy chapter two, verses five and six.

  131. For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

  132. What are we ransomed from?

  133. I've made mention of being ransomed from slavery to sin, a slavery to sin.

  134. We have transgressed against God himself from the beginning and because of the beginning.

  135. So by virtue of being a human being, you are a transgressor against God's laws.

  136. And it's been happening since the very beginning, since we see in the opening chapters of Genesis in the Bible, our first parents, they chose not to enjoy God and his good creation.

  137. They chose instead to put themselves in the place of God, to make their own desires ultimate things and somehow kick God off the throne as if that were possible.

  138. We have chosen, likewise, not to trust in God, but to pursue our own good life apart from the life giver.

  139. We make good things ultimate things.

  140. And this is what the scriptures talk about idolatry.

  141. This is sin.

  142. So for instance, if a businesswoman has as an ultimate thing, a successful business, she may stomp on employees.

  143. She may fudge numbers.

  144. She may neglect her family if she has one.

  145. Because the ultimate thing has to be achieved.

  146. The ultimate thing has to be accomplished.

  147. The single person who has the good desire to be married, to be in a relationship, making that the ultimate desire, will pursue that desire.

  148. Again, a good desire in an ultimate way that if they don't get in a relationship, their life isn't, it pales.

  149. It's not worth living.

  150. Or if they get in a relationship and a heartbreak happens, devastation, so that life doesn't seem worth living.

  151. And I don't mean in the moment when emotions are high, but just all the time.

  152. The mother who is desperately in love with their child, that makes their child the ultimate thing.

  153. If the child, God forbid, passes away or goes wayward.

  154. That mother's existence, everything she's put her hope and everything that she's put her identity in crumbles.

  155. Making a good thing an ultimate thing.

  156. The married man of 15 years who is just, he wants some adventure.

  157. And his eyes start to wander.

  158. His desires start to wander.

  159. Adventure is not a bad thing.

  160. But when you make a good thing an ultimate thing, it's sin.

  161. The church planter who puts all his eggs in the church planting basket.

  162. And if it fails, he's crushed.

  163. That's making a good thing an ultimate thing.

  164. I mean, listen, the shackles of slavery to sin take on different forms, but they're still shackles.

  165. If you are a slave to sin, you can say, listen, I'm putting a few more links on my chain.

  166. Look how much freedom I have.

  167. You still have shackles on your legs.

  168. If you paint your shackles a nice color, beautiful, glitter, if you're so glittery like that, there's still shackles.

  169. Or if you ignore them and say, there is no shackles on my feet.

  170. It doesn't change the fact that there's not shackles on your feet.

  171. It means you're delusional.

  172. Slavery to sin takes different forms, but it's still slavery.

  173. But it's not just slavery to sin that we're ransomed from.

  174. It's also ransoming from this world and slavery from false religion and false and evil philosophies.

  175. The apostle Paul says in Galatians chapter 4 that Jesus not only saves Christians from slavery to sin,

    Galatians 4 chapter mention

  176. but also sets them free from slavery to the world, false religions, evil religions, philosophies.

  177. And he says this in verse 7 of chapter 4.

  178. So you are no longer a slave, but a son.

  179. And if a son, then an heir according or an heir through God.

  180. Verse 8,

  181. It means that through Jesus, we are welcomed into God's family.

  182. No longer slaves, no longer slaves, but sons and daughters.

  183. And that means our previous slave masters no longer have authority over us.

  184. So for the Somali man who comes to the Christian faith, genuine faith,

  185. the evil slave master of Islam is no longer over him.

  186. The student who is headlong into a philosophy degree, eating stuff up, comes to faith,

  187. no longer are they subject to narcissistic or reductionistic philosophies that belittle God,

  188. that belittle his creation and him as creator.

  189. That talk about Christ as a fairy tale or as one of many different insurrectionists 2,000 years ago.

  190. To the Christian sitting in the pew, it means the Christian in the pew that thinks Christianity,

  191. whether consciously or just as a matter of everyday practicality lives the Christian life in such a way that they think good deeds will merit ultimate love from God towards them.

  192. You are no longer slaves to that evil master.

  193. Sons and daughters of the living God, God saves us, ransoms us from the world and from slavery to false and evil religion and philosophies.

  194. There is complete freedom that awaits.

  195. If you are here struggling with your faith, curious about the faith, true freedom awaits.

  196. We are ransomed.

  197. It means we are no longer, again, answerable to our former slave masters.

  198. There is a beautiful scene at the end of 12 Years a Slave when, is it Solomon Northup,

  199. this old friend from New York comes and through the sheriff, he is essentially a free man and he is getting in the carriage.

  200. And as he is walking, his slave master is calling him names and saying,

  201. you are my slave, I paid for you.

  202. And he disregards that slave owner because he is no longer a slave.

  203. And that is a beautiful picture of what it means to no longer be in slavery.

  204. But we're also ransomed from slavery to death.

  205. Death has touched us all in some kind of way.

  206. We have friends or families, family members that have died.

  207. I've never met Kobe Bryant in my life.

  208. I was bummed out for a long time when he died.

  209. Death, it's so final and aggressive and it takes everybody.

  210. And all of us will taste death.

  211. But we're no longer slaves to death if we are ransomed.

  212. Because as Christ has died, but was on the third day rose again from the grave,

  213. we are united to him.

  214. So we too will rise again.

  215. Death will not have the final word.

  216. Death will no longer be a slave master to us.

  217. Ransomed from the grave.

  218. So we are ransomed from slavery, but we are also ransomed for something.

  219. God doesn't rescue the Israelites from Egypt and just puts them out in the desert and said,

  220. Hey, you're free.

  221. He saves them for something.

  222. Brings them to the promised land.

  223. Blesses them.

  224. Makes a covenant with them.

  225. Renews his covenant that he made with Abraham,

  226. but also gives them a new identity.

  227. So what are we ransomed for?

  228. Simply put, it's freedom.

  229. But what exactly do we mean by freedom?

  230. Do we define freedom on our own terms?

  231. Is freedom simply to live unencumbered from responsibility?

  232. Well, then I think desire, your desires would take over.

  233. You just do whatever you wanted.

  234. Then your desire becomes your slave master.

  235. You become a slave to your desires.

  236. How about freedom from responsibility?

  237. Like complete freedom to do whatever you want,

  238. to walk your own path.

  239. Well, how about if walking your own path is at the expense of others?

  240. For your freedom to truly exist,

  241. it means somebody else's freedom has to be curtailed.

  242. Is that really freedom?

  243. Is that true freedom?

  244. We are ransomed for freedom,

  245. but consider this.

  246. The true freedom is to know God and be known by him.

  247. It says that, we read this a few moments ago in Galatians chapter 4.

    Galatians 4 chapter mention

  248. To know God and be known by him.

  249. God is our creator and he is good.

  250. And his desire for us to bless us can be trusted.

  251. And God is, he is not the type of maker who,

  252. like a watchmaker, makes this beautiful timepiece,

  253. sets the mechanism,

  254. and then his job is done.

  255. God has made creation,

  256. and all of creation is upheld by him.

  257. He is deeply intertwined with his,

  258. excuse me,

  259. creation.

  260. That he is active in his creation,

  261. and he has created the cosmos,

  262. and at the very,

  263. at the very pinnacle of all of his creation,

  264. is you and I,

  265. is humanity.

  266. Because we are made in his image.

  267. We are image bearers of God.

  268. Male and female,

  269. whatever language you speak,

  270. wherever you come from,

  271. if you are a human being,

  272. you're an image bearer of God.

  273. And you are at the pinnacle of his creation.

  274. God does not want a relationship

  275. with the environment.

  276. He does not want a relationship

  277. with any kind of animal,

  278. or a relationship with the stars.

  279. He wants a relationship

  280. with you and I.

  281. He is deeply,

  282. deeply,

  283. deeply,

  284. deeply involved

  285. in his creation.

  286. As image bearers,

  287. we are made to enjoy

  288. this deep friendship with God.

  289. God,

  290. this is what true freedom is.

  291. To live in the way

  292. that we were created to live.

  293. When sin,

  294. the temptation of sin,

  295. comes knocking,

  296. we don't have to say yes.

  297. When the world

  298. tempts us

  299. to compromise,

  300. we don't have to say yes.

  301. When a false religion,

  302. or philosophy,

  303. says this is,

  304. this is a better way,

  305. we don't have to say yes.

  306. And when death

  307. is knocking at our door,

  308. we can laugh in a sense,

  309. because death will never have

  310. the final word.

  311. We are saved

  312. for relationship

  313. with the living God,

  314. and it means everything.

  315. So we are saved

  316. from slavery,

  317. we are saved

  318. for something,

  319. we are ransomed

  320. for something.

  321. How is all of this accomplished?

  322. Let's take another look.

  323. 1 Timothy,

    1 Timothy 2:5

  324. chapter 2,

  325. verses 5 and 6.

  326. For there is one God,

  327. and there is one mediator

  328. between God and men,

  329. the man Christ Jesus,

  330. who gave himself

  331. as a ransom for all,

  332. which is the testimony

  333. given at the proper time.

  334. Our scripture text

  335. talks of the ransoming

  336. by Jesus

  337. of us,

  338. but it actually talks

  339. of other things as well.

  340. it makes some heavy-duty

  341. truth claims.

  342. One sentence,

  343. this one sentence

  344. is so packed,

  345. so concise

  346. of a deep,

  347. deep theology

  348. that it is worth

  349. memorizing.

  350. At the end of

  351. our time together,

  352. I'll encourage you guys

  353. to memorize this one

  354. verse,

  355. but it is a packed verse,

  356. and there are truth claims

  357. intertwined

  358. in this sentence

  359. so that

  360. Jesus ransoming us

  361. doesn't work

  362. unless there is

  363. one true God.

  364. Jesus ransoming us

  365. doesn't work

  366. unless we truly

  367. are sinful

  368. and God truly

  369. is holy.

  370. The ransoming

  371. of us by Jesus,

  372. it doesn't work

  373. if the incarnation

  374. is a joke

  375. or if it's false.

  376. The ransoming us

  377. from slavery

  378. doesn't work

  379. if God didn't

  380. send Christ

  381. to freely

  382. give himself

  383. in a specific time

  384. in a specific place.

  385. These truth claims

  386. are very much

  387. intertwined.

  388. Christine actually

  389. helped me with this.

  390. I've never heard

  391. of this before,

  392. but I totally

  393. heard of it before.

  394. The theory of

  395. irreducible complexity

  396. and could you put up

  397. the slides?

  398. This is a great example

  399. of the theory

  400. of irreducible complexity

  401. because the mouse trap

  402. doesn't work

  403. unless each of its

  404. component parts

  405. are there.

  406. So,

  407. I'm not talking about

  408. a fancy dancy

  409. mouse trap.

  410. I'm talking about

  411. the standard

  412. Victor mouse trap,

  413. not Victor's mouse trap.

  414. I have no idea

  415. if Victor has mouse traps.

  416. This is a Victor mouse trap

  417. and the Victor mouse trap

  418. doesn't work

  419. unless there is

  420. a wooden board

  421. and it doesn't work

  422. unless there is

  423. a bar that holds

  424. the spring down

  425. and it doesn't work

  426. unless there is

  427. a trigger

  428. and it won't work

  429. unless there is

  430. a bit of bait

  431. on the trigger

  432. and it definitely

  433. won't work

  434. if you can't set it up.

  435. These things are

  436. impossible to set up.

  437. I don't know if you guys,

  438. that's why people

  439. get the clippy ones now.

  440. But anyways,

  441. you understand

  442. what I'm trying to say.

  443. You can take it down now.

  444. Thanks.

  445. The theory of

  446. irreducible complexity.

  447. God ransoming us

  448. doesn't work

  449. if there are

  450. more than one God

  451. because

  452. if there are

  453. more than one God,

  454. more than one God,

  455. if

  456. the God of the Bible

  457. didn't scratch

  458. my itch,

  459. I just find

  460. another God

  461. with a different

  462. set of values.

  463. If

  464. this God

  465. wasn't perfect

  466. and us being sinful,

  467. we would need no

  468. we'd have no need

  469. to be ransomed.

  470. If

  471. Christ wasn't

  472. a mediator

  473. and a mediator

  474. being one

  475. that enjoys

  476. the confidence

  477. of both parties

  478. that are

  479. at odds

  480. to one another

  481. that is

  482. a suitable

  483. representative

  484. of both parties.

  485. So if

  486. our mediator

  487. Christ Jesus

  488. wasn't fully God

  489. representing

  490. God

  491. and fully man

  492. representing man,

  493. how could he

  494. properly mediate

  495. for us?

  496. This wouldn't work.

  497. The ransoming

  498. wouldn't work.

  499. If

  500. Christ didn't

  501. freely give

  502. of himself,

  503. it would be

  504. an injustice

  505. and how could

  506. that

  507. ransoming

  508. work?

  509. You guys

  510. see the point.

  511. For God

  512. to ransom

  513. us

  514. it is

  515. this

  516. verse,

  517. it is

  518. the gospel

  519. itself.

  520. It is

  521. the gospel

  522. itself.

  523. This doesn't

  524. work if

  525. one of the

  526. component parts

  527. don't exist

  528. or is

  529. false.

  530. So what

  531. happens?

  532. God

  533. sends

  534. his son,

  535. God,

  536. the son of

  537. God,

  538. to take on

  539. human flesh,

  540. fully God,

  541. fully man,

  542. and to ransom

  543. us,

  544. but not

  545. with a large

  546. sum of

  547. money,

  548. not with

  549. years of

  550. hard labor,

  551. but with

  552. his very

  553. blood.

  554. He spills

  555. for you

  556. and for I.

  557. There's a

  558. deep desire

  559. in us

  560. for reconciliation

  561. to God,

  562. for the good

  563. life,

  564. to know

  565. no pain,

  566. to know

  567. true

  568. joy in

  569. relationships.

  570. All of this

  571. stuff points

  572. to something.

  573. This deep

  574. desire for

  575. reconciliation

  576. to God,

  577. but it's

  578. very clear

  579. we have an

  580. inability to

  581. achieve this

  582. ourselves.

  583. What a

  584. frustration

  585. that must

  586. be.

  587. In

  588. Psalm 49

    Psalms 49:7–9

  589. verses 7

  590. to 9

  591. and then

  592. in verse

  593. 15 it

  594. says this,

  595. verses 7

  596. to 9,

  597. truly no

  598. one can

  599. ransom

  600. another

  601. or give

  602. to God

  603. the price

  604. of his

  605. life.

  606. For the

  607. ransom of

  608. their life

  609. is costly

  610. and can

  611. never suffice

  612. that he

  613. should live

  614. on forever

  615. and never

  616. see the

  617. pit.

  618. And then

  619. in verse

  620. 15 it

  621. says this,

  622. but God

  623. will ransom

  624. my soul

  625. from the

  626. power of

  627. Sheol or

  628. the grave

  629. for he

  630. will receive

  631. me.

  632. Who can

  633. ransom

  634. one's own

  635. life?

  636. God

  637. can.

  638. And he

  639. has.

  640. In the

  641. book of

  642. Revelation,

  643. the culmination

  644. of all

  645. of time

  646. is this

  647. wonderful

  648. picture of

  649. Christ on

  650. the throne

  651. with,

  652. I mean,

  653. it's really

  654. an epic

  655. picture of

  656. all of

  657. creation

  658. worshiping

  659. God.

  660. And this

  661. is what it

  662. says in

  663. verse 5.

  664. And they,

  665. this is the

  666. four living

  667. creatures and

  668. the 24

  669. elders,

  670. it's just

  671. crazy,

  672. epic,

  673. cosmic

  674. scene.

  675. And they

  676. start to

  677. sing a

  678. new song

  679. to Jesus.

  680. And they

  681. say this,

  682. worthy are

  683. you to

  684. take the

  685. scroll and

  686. to open

  687. its seals,

  688. for you

  689. were slain

  690. and by

  691. your blood

  692. you ransomed

  693. people for

  694. God.

  695. From every

  696. tribe and

  697. language and

  698. people and

  699. nation,

  700. and you

  701. have made

  702. them a

  703. kingdom and

  704. priests to

  705. our God

  706. and they

  707. shall reign

  708. on the

  709. earth.

  710. That at

  711. the culmination

  712. of all

  713. time,

  714. there is

  715. this new

  716. song sung

  717. to the

  718. king of

  719. kings and

  720. rate inserted

  721. in there is

  722. about how he

  723. has ransomed

  724. you and

  725. I.

  726. Your life is

  727. worth something.

  728. There's purpose

  729. for your life.

  730. It's a wonderful

  731. picture.

  732. I will

  733. encourage you

  734. guys now to

  735. read and

  736. read and

  737. read and

  738. memorize this

  739. one sentence

  740. and to think

  741. about how you

  742. were ransomed.

  743. To think about

  744. how God is

  745. the creator,

  746. the one and

  747. only creator,

  748. how Christ is

  749. our mediator

  750. between us

  751. and God,

  752. how Jesus

  753. is fully

  754. man,

  755. fully God,

  756. how he

  757. ransoms

  758. us by

  759. his blood

  760. freely,

  761. lovingly,

  762. and how it

  763. was done

  764. in a specific

  765. time in a

  766. specific place

  767. and it is

  768. finished.

  769. And read

  770. this over

  771. and memorize

  772. that.

  773. Let that

  774. form you

  775. this week,

  776. next week,

  777. the week

  778. after,

  779. your whole

  780. life.

  781. Here's the

  782. thing.

  783. This is why

  784. we need to

  785. be reminded.

  786. If you're

  787. not a

  788. Christian,

  789. if you've

  790. never come

  791. to a

  792. saving

  793. faith,

  794. today,

  795. I've laid

  796. out the

  797. case for

  798. you.

  799. Come to

  800. a saving

  801. faith in

  802. Christ Jesus.

  803. Be free

  804. from your

  805. slavery.

  806. But if

  807. you're a

  808. Christian,

  809. don't wander

  810. back into

  811. slavery.

  812. Don't do

  813. it.

  814. You don't

  815. have to.

  816. The

  817. Israelites are

  818. in the

  819. desert.

  820. They know

  821. they will

  822. be delivered

  823. into the

  824. promised land.

  825. They've

  826. seen God's

  827. mighty work.

  828. And then

  829. they start

  830. complaining

  831. about the

  832. stew that

  833. they wanted,

  834. that they used

  835. to eat back

  836. in Egypt,

  837. and then they

  838. want it

  839. again.

  840. But God

  841. has a whole

  842. land for

  843. you,

  844. flowing with

  845. bounty.

  846. And you

  847. want stew

  848. that you

  849. ate,

  850. this is

  851. our problem

  852. as well.

  853. We are

  854. sons and

  855. daughters of

  856. the living

  857. God if you

  858. put your

  859. faith and

  860. trust and

  861. hope in

  862. Christ.

  863. But all

  864. too often

  865. you go back

  866. to being a

  867. slave to

  868. sin.

  869. You go

  870. back to

  871. being a

  872. slave to

  873. the world.

  874. You go

  875. back to

  876. being a

  877. slave to

  878. false

  879. religion,

  880. to false

  881. philosophies,

  882. to an

  883. utter fear

  884. of death

  885. that is

  886. crippling.

  887. you go

  888. back to

  889. being a

  890. slave.

  891. But guess

  892. what?

  893. The shackle

  894. is no

  895. longer on

  896. your ankle.

  897. It's gone

  898. if you are

  899. in Christ

  900. Jesus.

  901. We need

  902. to be

  903. reminded

  904. of this,

  905. refreshed

  906. by this,

  907. renewed

  908. by this.

  909. That's why

  910. the gospel

  911. isn't just

  912. the doorway,

  913. it is the

  914. life of

  915. the Christian

  916. faith.

  917. So let's

  918. read again

  919. 1 Timothy

    1 Timothy 2:5

  920. chapter 2

  921. verses 5

  922. and 6.

  923. Let's

  924. memorize

  925. this.

  926. Let it

  927. form our

  928. very hearts.

  929. Let us

  930. remember

  931. always that

  932. we are

  933. sons and

  934. daughters of

  935. the living

  936. God.

  937. Let's

  938. pray.

  939. Heavenly

  940. Father,

  941. we thank

  942. you so

  943. much that

  944. you have

  945. sent your

  946. son to

  947. ransom us

  948. from slavery.

  949. No longer

  950. is there a

  951. shackle on

  952. our ankles,

  953. no longer

  954. are we

  955. free,

  956. no longer

  957. do we

  958. have zero

  959. rights,

  960. we have

  961. been

  962. ransomed,

  963. not with

  964. money that

  965. can be

  966. spent or

  967. a prize that

  968. can be

  969. spent or

  970. some kind

  971. of labor

  972. that can

  973. be spent,

  974. but by

  975. the very

  976. incorruptible

  977. blood of

  978. Christ

  979. himself.

  980. That if

  981. we are

  982. free,

  983. whom the

  984. son sets

  985. free,

  986. is free

  987. indeed.

  988. Lord,

  989. help us

  990. to walk

  991. in that.

  992. And for

  993. my friends

  994. that are

  995. skeptical,

  996. or maybe

  997. they don't

  998. yet know

  999. you,

  1000. or maybe

  1001. somebody is

  1002. here that

  1003. has thought

  1004. they've

  1005. known you,

  1006. thought they've

  1007. known a

  1008. saving faith

  1009. for their

  1010. entire life,

  1011. but maybe

  1012. that is

  1013. coming into

  1014. question.

  1015. Lord,

  1016. I pray

  1017. that they

  1018. will cry

  1019. out for

  1020. your

  1021. ransoming,

  1022. for your

  1023. redemption,

  1024. for your

  1025. son to

  1026. set them

  1027. free,

  1028. and that

  1029. they will

  1030. live as

  1031. free men,

  1032. free women.

  1033. Lord,

  1034. thank you

  1035. that

  1036. Christianity

  1037. is not a

  1038. religion of

  1039. bondage,

  1040. but it is

  1041. truly a

  1042. religion of

  1043. freedom.

  1044. Help us

  1045. learn how

  1046. to walk

  1047. as free

  1048. people.

  1049. We pray

  1050. all these

  1051. things in

  1052. Jesus' name.

  1053. are you

  1054. our

  1055. our

  1056. ы

  1057. ы

  1058. ы

  1059. ы

  1060. ы
