  1. Come Holy Ghost, our souls inspire, enlighten with celestial fire.

  2. Father, we deal with evil within ourselves.

  3. Often we don't deal with it as we should, or even as we could.

  4. We deal with evil all around us.

  5. We deal with doubts and questions.

  6. We deal with the questions which others throw against the faith

  7. and the challenges which are thrown against the faith

  8. to which we do not often know the answer.

  9. And Father, in such a world we give you thanks and praise

  10. that you are still sovereign, that Jesus is still the Lord and the Savior,

  11. and that the Holy Spirit is still at work.

  12. And we ask, Father, that in your kindness and mercy to us

  13. the Holy Spirit would move deep within our hearts,

  14. deep within our minds and our wills,

  15. that we might be gripped once again with the truth of your word

  16. and the truth of the gospel and learn to live for your glory.

  17. And all this we ask in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Savior. Amen.

  18. Please be seated.

  19. So, we're going to look today at the idea that God is good, just, and merciful.

  20. Now, right off the bat, we have a very, very big problem,

  21. which is that, as probably every single one of us know,

  22. the main argument against the existence of the God that Christians worship,

  23. the triune God, is the problem of evil.

  24. That, in fact, people will, if they, you know, get past their Canadian-ness

  25. and actually want to criticize your faith,

  26. they'll say, listen, God can't possibly exist.

  27. You just look at the world.

  28. I think it was, was it just in Scotland or something or England?

  29. Just the other day, some lone gunman shot four or five people and killed himself.

  30. And you just look at all the evil that's going on in the world.

  31. Do you know that in Afghanistan is the Taliban take-back areas?

  32. One of the things they do, and there's actually precedence for this,

  33. is they go up and they round up the unmarried women, including girls up to 12,

  34. and they either take them as forced brides or as sex slaves.

  35. That's going on in Afghanistan right now as the Taliban takes areas.

  36. Girls as young as 12, taken as either a wife against their will or as a sex slave.

  37. And so to many people in our culture, they just look at the evil in the world

  38. and they say, George, there is just no way that there can be a God who is good

  39. and who is all-powerful and all-wise,

  40. given the evil that's going on right now in Afghanistan and all over the world.

  41. And for many of our friends, it's one of those, you know, mic drop moments.

  42. They say that, they drop the mic, they walk away,

  43. and there's not much they feel that we can say against it.

  44. So let's think about this problem.

  45. Because on one level, the idea that God is good, when I get to my points, it's very simple.

  46. The triune God is good.

  47. I mean, that's sort of an easy idea, but it's a hard idea for us to get our mind around in a world

  48. where, for many people, the basic thing is that God can't possibly exist

  49. and can't possibly be good when there's things going on,

  50. like what the Taliban is doing in Afghanistan.

  51. So let's think about it.

  52. But there's three problems about thinking about it.

  53. And the first problem is, and I know this can be a little bit hard to say,

  54. is that, in fact, the pattern is that many times when I talk to people about it,

  55. it's a bit of a, it's a common human problem,

  56. but I think it's a bigger problem today than it has been in other times,

  57. that there's a fundamental incoherence

  58. in people and lack of moral seriousness or attentiveness in a lot of people.

  59. Like, people are very moralistic and legalistic nowadays.

  60. In fact, I was just joking with somebody the other day that about four years ago,

  61. I'd have to regularly talk with people who said that all morality is relative,

  62. that there's no right and wrong.

  63. And somehow or another, there's been the invasion of the body snatchers,

  64. and all of those people have been taken over by aliens

  65. who now are legalistic cancel culture warriors.

  66. Like, I don't know how the culture shifted so fast.

  67. But here's the problem.

  68. There's, even though there seems to be a lot of moralism,

  69. there is, in fact, often a fundamental incoherence

  70. or lack of attentiveness about moral beliefs.

  71. And I had a perfect example of this this morning.

  72. I wished I had my phone, and I would have seen if we could put it up on the screen.

  73. I went to my local favorite coffee shop to get a coffee between the services,

  74. and it happened to be, it's just one of those days, like, the lineup took forever.

  75. Everybody in the lineup ahead of me all seemed to want to order two or three or four drinks.

  76. All of the drinks were complicated,

  77. and in every case it seemed as if the person getting the drink

  78. wanted to negotiate freebies at the same time.

  79. I know you used to work in a, you know, can I have whipped cream with that?

  80. Well, you're going to cost money well, and then they blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

  81. And I'm just thinking there.

  82. Anyway, so I'm standing in the lineup for a long time looking,

  83. and then I noticed that behind the barista is a sign that says,

  84. Be loud, be proud, be you.

  85. Okay?

  86. Now, give me some mercy.

  87. You all know what that's connected with.

  88. Be loud, be proud, be you.

  89. But beside the barista was another sign,

  90. a scary-looking sign in bright red and very formidable and far bigger than the other one.

  91. And the other sign was, wear a mask.

  92. And then it even went on, it has to cover your nose,

  93. like there are all these other types of things, all very, very scary.

  94. And I almost was going to go up into the barista and said, you know,

  95. I was going to take my mask off and said, I want to be me.

  96. And I want to be proud.

  97. And I want to be loud.

  98. And I don't like wearing masks because that's me.

  99. I almost said that to the barista.

  100. But you think about it.

  101. You see messages like this all over the world.

  102. Like there's no sense that there's one moment,

  103. be loud, be proud, be you.

  104. Wear a mask.

  105. Like in even bigger, scarier language.

  106. Well, that doesn't fit.

  107. That's incoherent.

  108. And if you don't understand that point, you have a deeper problem of incoherence than you realize.

  109. Now, the reason I didn't say anything just to finish the story is I came up to the barista.

  110. And the first thing I said is, I have a ridiculously simple order.

  111. I would like a black, tall coffee.

  112. And he looked at me and said, he put it in and he said, that's all?

  113. I said, I'd just like a black, tall coffee.

  114. It's ridiculously simple.

  115. He smiled at me and said, for that, it's on the house.

  116. So I didn't ask him about the incoherence of the signage.

  117. Because, gosh, that was a very nice thing for him to do.

  118. Anyway, so here's the first thing.

  119. There's often just people don't think about things.

  120. They don't put A together with B together with C and realize that they're inconsistent.

  121. And by the way, I'm not saying that Christians are good at that or perfect at that.

  122. But it's just a general problem of how do you live and examine life and really look at moral issues seriously if there's, in fact, unconscious incoherence going on in each of our lives.

  123. But the second problem that we have to discuss this issue is what I call the myth of Switzerland.

  124. Now, obviously, when I say the myth of Switzerland, I believe that Switzerland exists.

  125. In fact, I've been in the airport in Zurich several times in Switzerland.

  126. So I know that Switzerland exists.

  127. But what I mean by that is that a lot of times people have this myth that they can be neutral,

  128. that they can give you these objections to your point of view and articulate them very well.

  129. But then they just sort of go like this as if they don't have to answer any of the issues which have been raised.

  130. That somehow or another, if there's, you know, a problem of how do you have a world where there's good and evil in the same world

  131. and there might or might not be a God and how you put these things together, they can just sort of criticize you.

  132. But they're Switzerland.

  133. They're neutral.

  134. They don't have any view.

  135. They don't have to account or answer for anything.

  136. But that's not true.

  137. Like, why should that be true?

  138. Like, who made, who died and made you God?

  139. Like, you've got to answer, you've got to put these things together as well, right?

  140. I mean, that's just fair.

  141. And then the third thing is that when we consider this problem, right, the argument is that there's terrible, evil things going on in this world.

  142. Therefore, God, as you describe him, can't possibly exist.

  143. And they just look at one type of experience around this sort of mystery.

  144. Because really what they're doing is they're highlighting to us there's this mystery about good and evil.

  145. There's a riddle, an enigma of good and evil that goes on and exists in the world.

  146. But the problem is that they stop too soon.

  147. There isn't enough attentiveness.

  148. There's not enough attentiveness to the real moral experience that we have to sort of account for, not only in our own lives but in the world.

  149. Like, if you think about it, how is it that there is both good and evil in the world?

  150. Like, you think that every system of thought, every ideology, every religion has to be able to account for why it is, how come there is both good and evil in the world?

  151. And how is it that you can account for the fact that there is differences about how you understand what good and evil are that exist between people?

  152. But even though there's differences about the specifics, there's not a difference fundamentally about the idea that fundamentally there is something which is good.

  153. So we might disagree with whether or not, obviously we're going to disagree with the Taliban on whether or not you can have a 12-year-old girl as a sex slave.

  154. But at some point in time, the Taliban, well, it was easy with the Taliban because they clearly believe in right and wrong.

  155. So we might disagree on the particulars, but the idea that there is a good and that there is a bad is, in fact, something which is, in fact, part of the world.

  156. Well, how is it that you account for that?

  157. Like, why is that the case?

  158. And why is it the case that it is true, I think, in every culture?

  159. This is even true in Canada, even during the time when there were most moral relativists.

  160. One of the things that you saw all of the time was this phrase that I'm a good person.

  161. If you saw any of Ricky Gervais' little comedy sketches or series that he did, he did two series of them, at least two.

  162. By the way, when I say things like this, I'm not necessarily recommending you go out and watch them.

  163. I mean, it's, but he is a, really, in many, many, many, many ways, you know, anyway, he, I mean, he's very, very clearly an atheist.

  164. But one of the things which was very telling is that every episode, two, three, four, five, six times, he'd say that he was a good person.

  165. And so it's always understood, so there's a world with good and evil.

  166. There's a world where we disagree about the particulars, but we understand that there is a fundamental thing that's good and evil.

  167. And we understand that we should seek the good, that that's what we should do.

  168. That's what a moral person should do, that they should seek to become more good.

  169. And the other thing about our experience is that we are a mixture of good and evil.

  170. That if we're honest about it, that we understand that there is both good and evil that I have done.

  171. I have done good things and I've done evil things.

  172. And if you have a system of thought or a religion that says that you never do anything good, we don't know, that can't be right.

  173. I mean, obviously, some people do good things.

  174. And if we have a system of thought that says nobody ever does evil things, we say, no, no, no, no, that doesn't it.

  175. But, you know, I do good and evil.

  176. How is it that I understand my own experience of doing good and evil?

  177. And then another thing with it is that for many of us, in fact, I think for all of us,

  178. if we live long enough and have enough of an examined life, we'll realize that there is something within us which is evil,

  179. which is scary and wrong and we really need to deal with.

  180. Like those of us who've struggled with addictions, those of us who've struggled with alcoholism or drug addiction,

  181. know very, very powerfully that there is, in fact, some part of us that desires this thing that will only destroy us

  182. and has been destroying us and consuming us.

  183. But many of us also have the same thing with whether it's lust or anger,

  184. whether it's greed or gluttony or a range of other types of things,

  185. that we come to realize that it's not just that there's a mixture of good and evil within me,

  186. but there is something within me which is ravenous.

  187. And why is that?

  188. Like, why is that?

  189. And then with that, there's this other part of human experience is that how do I become good?

  190. Like, how do I deal with the evil in me practically?

  191. And then another part of the human experience is how do I live in the world,

  192. in a world where there is evil and there is good?

  193. How do I live?

  194. So, you see, now what we've done is we're still now going to have to look at the problem of good and evil.

  195. But, you see, when you raise the problem of good and evil and you just stop at this one little tiny bit,

  196. you're not actually really living an examined life.

  197. You're not really...

  198. The people who raise that objection, they're really on to something.

  199. Like, they're really on to something, but they stop too quickly.

  200. They somehow or another think that they don't have to account for these things,

  201. that only somehow I have to.

  202. Like, why is it that I'm the only one asked to account?

  203. If I'm talking to three people, why am I the only one asked to give an account for this?

  204. Like, all of us have to give an account.

  205. And don't stop just with this problem of good and evil and God.

  206. Like, broaden it out.

  207. So, well, here's...

  208. Before we...

  209. Let's look at how some of the other attempts to answer this question are.

  210. And that...

  211. You see, here's the thing.

  212. If you realize that nobody's neutral,

  213. if you start to actually think about the three...

  214. I think it's three...

  215. Three principal ways that people in Canada and throughout history

  216. try to answer this thing outside of the Christian faith,

  217. if you actually start to think about it for a second,

  218. you come to realize that the Christian answer is very beautiful and very wise.

  219. And wise and beautiful and actually hopeful

  220. at a very, very, very, very deep level.

  221. That, in fact, the Christian answer is not only wise and beautiful,

  222. but to use some postmodern language, it's thick.

  223. It's deep.

  224. So, let's just think about it.

  225. The most common Canadian view on this particular issue

  226. is that, ultimately, I talked about this last week,

  227. and we're going to look very briefly at it again today,

  228. is that everything that came to exist has come to exist

  229. as a result of naturalistic evolution.

  230. It's how they teach it at Ottawa, you at Carleton, CBC,

  231. how the Supreme Court would understand it,

  232. most of them at least, fundamentally, not all of them, but most of them.

  233. It's how the opinion makers understand things,

  234. and that's the fundamental bedrock view of the secular world that we inhabit,

  235. that everything that exists has come about as a result of naturalistic evolution.

  236. I talked about this a little bit last week.

  237. But here's the particular thing.

  238. It means there's no God,

  239. that ultimately things just came to be.

  240. But if this is the case,

  241. where on earth does good and evil come from?

  242. Like, where on earth does good and evil come from?

  243. You see,

  244. not even picking an evil bird.

  245. For my dogs,

  246. there's just breakfast and supper.

  247. There's no world of moral striving.

  248. There's just breakfast and supper.

  249. In the world of evolution,

  250. as it's taught,

  251. as it's understood,

  252. is that basically the strong survive and the weak die.

  253. In fact,

  254. often the strong survive by eating the weak.

  255. I mean, we eat chickens.

  256. I mean, those of us who aren't vegetarians

  257. eat chickens.

  258. The strong survive by eating the weak.

  259. Well, you will never, ever, ever be able to go

  260. from the strong survive and the weak die

  261. and the strong survive by eating to,

  262. you can never go from the strong survive

  263. by eating the weak

  264. to therefore love one another.

  265. The strong survive by eating the weak,

  266. therefore love one another.

  267. That makes no sense.

  268. I mean, in fact,

  269. the matter is,

  270. is that the lesson that

  271. if,

  272. it's just,

  273. if that thing's just happened,

  274. then, I don't know,

  275. like, why,

  276. why shouldn't I hurt the weak?

  277. Like,

  278. what ought

  279. are you going to give me?

  280. And,

  281. and if this is the case,

  282. then,

  283. how on earth does anything,

  284. all of these things,

  285. how does it account for good and evil in the world,

  286. good and differing about it,

  287. about seeking to be good,

  288. about mixture of good and evil within us,

  289. and,

  290. and even if we try to say,

  291. well,

  292. that's just all a matter of adaptation

  293. and all of that type of stuff,

  294. you say,

  295. no,

  296. no,

  297. no,

  298. no,

  299. no,

  300. no,

  301. no,

  302. no,

  303. it's just a matter of adaptation.

  304. Taliban forcing 12-year-old girls

  305. to be their sex slaves.

  306. In fact,

  307. you know what,

  308. from an evolutionary point of view,

  309. that might be very evolutionarily successful

  310. because the strong

  311. are breeding with the weak,

  312. hopefully providing some strong.

  313. And,

  314. you see,

  315. the thing about this whole naturalistic worldview

  316. is all you need to do

  317. is acknowledge one thing

  318. that isn't cultural

  319. and one thing

  320. which isn't to deal,

  321. to do with evolutionary survival,

  322. just one thing which is good

  323. and your whole worldview falls apart.

  324. And the fact of the matter is,

  325. is if you don't think it's wrong

  326. for a Taliban fighter

  327. to take a 12-year-old girl

  328. as a sex slave,

  329. shame on you.

  330. Shame on you.

  331. You have not become more moral.

  332. You have exited the world

  333. where taking morality is serious.

  334. The other very popular response

  335. to the whole issue

  336. is what's called pantheism

  337. or panentheism.

  338. For our purposes,

  339. they're basically the same here.

  340. One of them is that pantheism

  341. is that everything is God.

  342. Panentheism is that God is in everything.

  343. And at the end of the day,

  344. they share the relevant point,

  345. which is that

  346. at the end of the day,

  347. there's just the one.

  348. That's what we're moving towards

  349. is the one.

  350. There used to be everything was one

  351. and now we've gotten

  352. this appearance of difference

  353. but in the classic line,

  354. the end of all things

  355. as you go through cycles

  356. of living and rebirth

  357. and living and rebirth

  358. and eventually achieve enlightenment,

  359. you are like a drop of water

  360. that finally joins the ocean

  361. and become one with the ocean.

  362. And at the end of the end

  363. of the end of the end,

  364. there's just the ocean.

  365. But within this point of view,

  366. then really what they say

  367. is that God is beyond good and evil.

  368. Really?

  369. God is beyond good and evil?

  370. What on earth does that mean

  371. for 12-year-old girls

  372. being taken as a sex slave?

  373. Like that sounds very nice.

  374. It looks good on a t-shirt

  375. that God is beyond good and evil.

  376. But really, what does that mean?

  377. Like how can that mean anything

  378. other than giving evil a pass?

  379. If that was true,

  380. shouldn't we all be revolutionaries

  381. against that God

  382. rather than seeking to join it?

  383. Now obviously,

  384. Buddhism and Hinduism

  385. is vastly better than that.

  386. It's a type of an incoherence

  387. within its worldview.

  388. But the fact of the matter is

  389. is that if in fact

  390. it's just an appearance

  391. that some things are good

  392. and an appearance

  393. that some things are evil,

  394. how does that fit

  395. with our immoral experience

  396. that there is good and evil

  397. in the world,

  398. that there's difference

  399. about particulars

  400. but at the big picture

  401. there really is something

  402. and it's wise to be good

  403. and that you and I

  404. are a mixture of good

  405. and evil answers

  406. and actions

  407. and how do I live

  408. in a world like that?

  409. How is it that pantheism

  410. or panentheism

  411. really actually handles it?

  412. And the final thing

  413. which is the classic answer

  414. and sort of seen

  415. in the Star Wars thing

  416. with the understanding

  417. of the force

  418. is dualism.

  419. That somehow

  420. there's the good force

  421. and the bad force

  422. that they're always

  423. sort of somehow

  424. or another

  425. at each other's

  426. other sides

  427. and there has to be

  428. some type of a balance

  429. and blah, blah, blah, blah.

  430. But here's the thing.

  431. What they do is

  432. that type of thought

  433. often it cheats.

  434. You see,

  435. what happens

  436. if you rename

  437. the two forces

  438. the blue force

  439. and the yellow force?

  440. Now you really have

  441. two separate forces

  442. that are just different.

  443. And then we might even say

  444. well who cares

  445. if some people

  446. like Manchester City

  447. because of their

  448. powder blue uniforms

  449. and some people

  450. like Sweden

  451. because they love yellow.

  452. Like, you know,

  453. big deal.

  454. Like who, you know?

  455. You have something

  456. against Swedish people?

  457. You have something

  458. against people

  459. who like Manchester City

  460. as soccer team?

  461. But you see,

  462. they don't say blue and yellow

  463. which is obviously

  464. in a sense

  465. amoral category

  466. somehow or another

  467. perennially

  468. butting heads

  469. and working

  470. within experience.

  471. They smuggle in

  472. good and evil

  473. by calling them

  474. good and evil

  475. as if there's

  476. some other standard

  477. above them.

  478. In other words,

  479. they undermine

  480. their idea

  481. just in fact

  482. in speaking about it.

  483. In fact,

  484. as I used to say

  485. back in the days

  486. when I was having

  487. to deal with

  488. lots of moral relativists,

  489. the fact of the matter

  490. is that human beings

  491. can't speak

  492. or think

  493. without moral categories.

  494. It's impossible.

  495. It was always

  496. just perennially

  497. frustrating

  498. to try to talk

  499. to somebody

  500. thinking that

  501. they were

  502. a moral relativist

  503. while they constantly

  504. use moral categories

  505. that I oughtn't

  506. to think,

  507. I ought not to think

  508. there's something

  509. that's different.

  510. One moment.

  511. I ought not to think

  512. there's a difference

  513. between right,

  514. isn't ought like

  515. a moral term?

  516. You can,

  517. it would be almost

  518. as if you try

  519. to argue with somebody

  520. whether oxygen

  521. or air exists

  522. and they're arguing

  523. against you

  524. while they breathe

  525. without being aware

  526. of the fact

  527. that they're breathing

  528. while they argue

  529. with you

  530. and they're using

  531. moral categories

  532. while they argue

  533. with you.

  534. So now in light

  535. of these problems,

  536. in light of in fact

  537. the three historic,

  538. ancient,

  539. and most common ways

  540. of trying to deal

  541. with our moral experience,

  542. let us consider

  543. what the Bible

  544. has to say

  545. and let us consider

  546. once again

  547. how the Bible

  548. addresses the reality

  549. that there is

  550. a good God

  551. and there is evil

  552. in the world.

  553. If you take it

  554. to the first point,

  555. if you could throw it up,

  556. is that the triune God

  557. is good.

  558. The triune God

  559. is good.

  560. We're just going

  561. to look at,

  562. this is just so

  563. throughout the Bible,

  564. I'm not going

  565. to give you

  566. a hundred verses,

  567. we're going to look

  568. at just one thing

  569. in the Old Testament,

  570. one thing in the New Testament.

  571. If you turn in your Bibles

  572. to Psalm 100,

  573. this very,

  574. very powerful psalm,

  575. make a joyful noise

  576. to the Lord

  577. all the earth,

  578. serve the Lord

  579. with gladness,

  580. come into his presence

  581. with singing,

  582. know that the Lord,

  583. he is God,

  584. it is he who made us

  585. and we are his.

  586. We are his people

  587. and the sheep

  588. of his pasture.

  589. And just as a bit

  590. of an aside,

  591. there's a bit

  592. of a double meaning

  593. in the Hebrew

  594. and so in the Hebrew,

  595. it can also say

  596. it is he who made us

  597. and we are his

  598. or it can say

  599. it is he who made us

  600. and not we ourselves,

  601. which is really

  602. a very,

  603. very important idea

  604. for us post-modern

  605. Canadians

  606. who sort of somehow

  607. want to always be

  608. like a self-made person.

  609. We don't make ourselves

  610. at a very,

  611. very deep level.

  612. And then the psalm continues,

  613. enter his gates

  614. with thanksgiving

  615. and his courts

  616. with praise,

  617. give thanks to him,

  618. bless his name,

  619. for the Lord

  620. is good,

  621. his steadfast love

  622. endures forever

  623. and his faithfulness

  624. to all generations.

  625. The Lord

  626. is good

  627. and his steadfast love

  628. endures forever.

  629. And it is a constant theme

  630. in the Psalms

  631. and in Israel's worship.

  632. Let's just look

  633. to one thing

  634. by Jesus

  635. in Mark chapter 10,

    Mark 10:18

  636. verse 18.

  637. Mark chapter 10,

    Mark 10:18

  638. verse 18.

  639. And this is all

  640. in part of a dialogue.

  641. A rich young man

  642. has come to Jesus

  643. and says,

  644. good teacher.

  645. And it isn't that

  646. Jesus is denying

  647. that he's God.

  648. It's just Jesus

  649. trying to tease out

  650. from him

  651. what exactly

  652. he's saying.

  653. Does he realize

  654. what he says

  655. when he calls

  656. Jesus good?

  657. It's in a sense

  658. Jesus trying to get

  659. the guy to go deeper

  660. to understand

  661. that if he's serious

  662. about what he says

  663. in his introduction

  664. then he's implying

  665. that Jesus is God.

  666. So here's what

  667. Jesus says,

  668. verse 18.

  669. And Jesus said to him,

  670. why do you call me good?

  671. No one is good

  672. except God alone.

  673. Now,

  674. here's the thing

  675. very, very simply.

  676. the Bible understands

  677. goodness

  678. theologically.

  679. God is good.

  680. God,

  681. it isn't that

  682. there's the good

  683. and then there's God

  684. and by this standard

  685. of goodness,

  686. God is God.

  687. That's not how it works.

  688. God is good.

  689. He is good.

  690. Everything,

  691. our understanding

  692. of good and evil

  693. ultimately,

  694. completely and utterly

  695. are in keeping

  696. with who he is

  697. and things

  698. which are congruent

  699. with him,

  700. in keeping with him,

  701. his character,

  702. his nature,

  703. his attributes,

  704. his creation.

  705. God is just good

  706. and it's from that

  707. that we understand

  708. what good and evil is.

  709. And just by the way,

  710. I'm focusing primarily

  711. on God is good

  712. as opposed to

  713. justice and mercy

  714. because,

  715. you see,

  716. if human beings

  717. had never fallen,

  718. we would not know

  719. that God was just

  720. and merciful.

  721. because,

  722. you see,

  723. justice and mercy

  724. are necessary

  725. when evil exists.

  726. Justice and mercy,

  727. in fact,

  728. you see,

  729. you can't really think

  730. of something being good

  731. if it's unjust.

  732. That wouldn't make any sense

  733. and if there was a goodness

  734. that never showed mercy,

  735. we'd think there's something

  736. lacking in that goodness.

  737. And so,

  738. goodness,

  739. we see justice and mercy

  740. when there is evil.

  741. How does the good,

  742. how does goodness

  743. deal with the reality

  744. of evil?

  745. Already,

  746. you're starting to see

  747. the thickness

  748. and the beauty

  749. of how Christians

  750. and the Bible

  751. is going to understand

  752. this particular issue.

  753. And then,

  754. the second thing,

  755. if you could put it up,

  756. is that the triune God

  757. made all that exists

  758. good.

  759. The triune God

  760. made all that exists

  761. good.

  762. Now,

  763. we're going to look

  764. very quickly

  765. at seven verses,

  766. all from Genesis chapter one.

  767. And,

  768. this is part of the foundation

  769. of the whole Bible.

  770. Those of you

  771. who are curious

  772. about how I deal

  773. with the seven-day creation

  774. and Adam and Eve

  775. and all of that type of stuff,

  776. I did a sermon series

  777. a few years ago

  778. on the first 11 chapters

  779. of Genesis.

  780. You can look it up.

  781. But,

  782. what you can see here

  783. in this foundational text

  784. that introduces the Bible,

  785. is that seven times

  786. in this first story

  787. it is declared

  788. that God

  789. made everything good.

  790. And the final time,

  791. the seventh time,

  792. it says very good.

  793. And,

  794. basically,

  795. that's a symbolic

  796. type of number.

  797. Seven times

  798. is the number

  799. of completeness.

  800. It's the number

  801. of perfection.

  802. It's emphasizing.

  803. It's why,

  804. it's emphasizing.

  805. Even though there's

  806. six days of creation,

  807. the seventh day,

  808. God rests,

  809. there's seven times

  810. where it's said

  811. that things made are good.

  812. Look at verse 4.

  813. And God saw

  814. that the light was good.

  815. And God separated

  816. the light from the darkness.

  817. See?

  818. He saw that it was good.

  819. Look at verse 10.

  820. And God called

  821. the dry land earth,

  822. and the waters

  823. that were gathered together

  824. he called seas,

  825. and God saw

  826. that it was good.

  827. Look at verse 12.

  828. The earth brought forth

  829. vegetation,

  830. plants yielding,

  831. seed according

  832. to their own kinds,

  833. and trees bearing fruit

  834. in which is their seed,

  835. each according

  836. to its kind.

  837. And God saw

  838. that it was good.

  839. Look at verse 18.

  840. This is about

  841. the creation

  842. of the lights,

  843. the one to rule

  844. over the day

  845. and over the night,

  846. and to separate

  847. the light

  848. from the darkness,

  849. and God saw

  850. that it was good.

  851. Look at verse 21.

  852. God created

  853. the great sea creatures

  854. and every living thing

  855. that moves

  856. with which

  857. the waters swarm

  858. according to their kinds

  859. and every winged bird

  860. according to its kinds,

  861. and God saw

  862. that it was good.

  863. Look at verse 25.

  864. And God made

  865. the beasts of the earth

  866. according to their kinds

  867. and the livestock

  868. according to their kinds

  869. and everything

  870. that creeps on the ground

  871. according to its kind,

  872. and God saw

  873. that it was good.

  874. That's six times

  875. it's been said.

  876. And now we come

  877. to verse 31.

  878. And verse 31

  879. goes like this.

  880. And God saw

  881. everything that he had made

  882. and behold,

  883. it was very good.

  884. And there was evening

  885. and there was morning

  886. the sixth day.

  887. Now,

  888. here's the thing

  889. from this teaching

  890. that the triune God

  891. made all that exists good.

  892. For many people

  893. in our culture,

  894. a human being

  895. needs the triune God

  896. like a fish

  897. needs a bicycle.

  898. That would be

  899. how many of us,

  900. that's sort of

  901. just one of those things

  902. that might never say that

  903. but it's in their bones.

  904. Like we,

  905. you know,

  906. I need God,

  907. I need Jesus

  908. like a fish

  909. needs a bicycle.

  910. Like I'm fine

  911. with my own life.

  912. But what we see

  913. from this

  914. is very significant

  915. when we're trying

  916. to think of

  917. our moral experience,

  918. our experience

  919. of the world

  920. in terms of good

  921. and evil.

  922. You see,

  923. what it's actually saying

  924. is that

  925. when it describes

  926. a God who is good

  927. made everything

  928. that is good

  929. and he made human beings

  930. in this good world,

  931. to inhabit in this good world

  932. and if you go back

  933. and look at it

  934. and he made us

  935. to be fruitful,

  936. he made us to multiply,

  937. he made us to flourish,

  938. he made us to have dominion

  939. over the earth,

  940. he made us to,

  941. in a sense,

  942. you take the Garden of Eden

  943. and the whole earth

  944. is to become a garden

  945. and the whole earth

  946. is to become a temple,

  947. the whole earth

  948. is where we walk with God

  949. and maybe if we hadn't fallen

  950. it would have gone

  951. to the moon

  952. and Mars

  953. and Venus

  954. and stars beyond

  955. and beyond

  956. and beyond

  957. and beyond

  958. and to care for it

  959. and to flourish

  960. and what we see is this,

  961. that just as God

  962. made fish

  963. to dwell in water,

  964. God made human beings

  965. to live

  966. immersed

  967. in goodness.

  968. See,

  969. that's why

  970. every human being

  971. thinks that they

  972. should be good.

  973. That's why

  974. every human being

  975. when they experience evil

  976. and are living in evil,

  977. they know that

  978. that's not the way

  979. it should be

  980. because God

  981. made human beings

  982. to be immersed

  983. in goodness

  984. as a fish

  985. is immersed in water

  986. and not only that,

  987. God made us

  988. to be infused

  989. with goodness

  990. as water

  991. infuses

  992. tea.

  993. That in fact,

  994. it's not just a matter,

  995. like I mean,

  996. the fish

  997. inhabits the water

  998. but in a sense,

  999. most of the fish

  1000. is just fish

  1001. but that God

  1002. made us

  1003. to be

  1004. infused

  1005. with goodness.

  1006. That it actually

  1007. is to get right

  1008. into us

  1009. which is why

  1010. we understand

  1011. why we want

  1012. to be able

  1013. to say

  1014. that we're good.

  1015. It's why we want

  1016. to be able

  1017. to say

  1018. that we're good

  1019. and that goodness

  1020. is better

  1021. than evil

1022. and at the same time,

  1023. you know,

  1024. the average Canadian

  1025. thinks that somehow

  1026. another goodness

  1027. emerges from them

  1028. but that's a bit

  1029. of a problematic

  1030. because evil

  1031. also emerges

  1032. from them

  1033. but this idea

  1034. of being infused

  1035. helps to capture

  1036. but the Bible

  1037. has something

  1038. which is even deeper

  1039. and truer to say

  1040. which is that God

  1041. made human beings

  1042. to reflect his goodness

  1043. that a human being

  1044. is not a,

1045. just as in a sense

  1046. the hot water

  1047. doesn't emerge

  1048. from the tea

  1049. but the hot water

  1050. comes into the tea

  1051. leaves,

  1052. that's the word

  1053. I was looking for,

  1054. that in a sense

  1055. the tea leaves

  1056. don't create water

1057. that leave the tea leaves

1058. to go into the cup

  1059. that in fact

  1060. the goodness

1061. comes into the tea leaves

  1062. and infuses it

  1063. but now to switch

  1064. the analogies

  1065. because human beings

  1066. are weird,

  1067. we're a little bit

  1068. like aardvarks,

  1069. it's almost as if,

  1070. you know,

1071. an aardvark is as if

  1072. God had spare parts

1073. left over for different animals

1074. and threw them all together

  1075. in some ways

  1076. human beings

  1077. are the same way

  1078. that on one hand

  1079. we're immersed,

  1080. on another hand

  1081. we're infused,

  1082. on another hand

  1083. we're like a mirror

1084. that because God is good

1085. and that he is the source

  1086. of all goodness

  1087. that we're meant

  1088. to reflect that goodness

  1089. at the same time

  1090. that we're immersed

  1091. in goodness

  1092. and infused in goodness

  1093. and finally

  1094. when we see

  1095. in Genesis chapter 3

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  1096. how God designed

  1097. human beings

  1098. to walk with him

  1099. in the garden

1100. it means that we are

  1101. to understand

  1102. that we were designed

  1103. to walk with goodness

  1104. and in goodness

1105. in the path of goodness

  1106. that that's how God

  1107. designed us to be

  1108. and if you think

  1109. about that

  1110. it becomes clear

1111. why some of these things

  1112. in our moral experience

  1113. about why it's wise

  1114. to be good

1115. how there really is good

  1116. and how

  1117. and how

  1118. the goodness

  1119. seems to be something

  1120. that should be

  1121. that goodness is right

  1122. that when we

  1123. experience

  1124. like something

  1125. like at this time

  1126. of the year

1127. when you got a day

  1128. with the perfect temperature

  1129. at the end

  1130. of the perfect day

  1131. and you've been

  1132. with your best friends

  1133. and with your family

  1134. and you've had a good meal

  1135. and you have had

  1136. just the right amount

  1137. to drink

  1138. and you're feeling

  1139. completely healthy

  1140. and your conscience

  1141. is clear

  1142. and there's a beautiful sunset

  1143. and everything's still

1144. and you hear the sound

  1145. of the loon

  1146. and it just seems

1147. as if there is something

  1148. good inside

  1149. and outside

  1150. and that those things

  1151. are in harmony

1152. the harmony of the beauty

1153. the harmony of the world

1154. a peace within your family

  1155. and your friends

1156. a cleaning of your own conscience

1157. and there is just something

  1158. about that

  1159. which is so

  1160. dang right

1161. where you say to yourself

1162. I was made for this

1163. no 12 year old girl

  1164. being captured

  1165. by the Taliban

  1166. as a sex slave

  1167. says to herself

1168. I was made for this

  1169. if you put up

  1170. the third point

  1171. the triune God

  1172. did not create evil

1173. he is always and only opposed

  1174. to moral wrongdoing

1175. this is the biblical teaching

1176. you see the thing is

1177. is that the biblical teaching

  1178. emphasizes something

1179. which is of the highest value

  1180. to Canadians

  1181. which is freedom

  1182. and if in fact

  1183. God makes human beings

  1184. truly, truly, truly free

1185. it means that they have

  1186. the option

  1187. to truly, truly, truly

1188. choose that which is evil

  1189. and that's what happened

  1190. in our spiritual ancestors

  1191. our physical ancestors

  1192. our representatives

  1193. Adam and Eve

  1194. and in particular Adam

1195. that there come a time

  1196. described in Genesis 3

1197. which I'm not going to read

1198. just for reasons of time

  1199. where human beings chose

  1200. to not trust God

1201. to not trust his word

1202. to desire to be above God

  1203. to judge God

1204. to be the standard over God

1205. so that they would be

  1206. they would determine

  1207. what's good

  1208. not God

1209. and that they would be over him

1210. and that when they do that

  1211. what they do

1212. is that there is something

  1213. within them

  1214. which is broken

  1215. there is something

  1216. within them

  1217. which is bent

  1218. you see

1219. because the fact of the matter

  1220. is that Christians say

  1221. that since evil

  1222. comes by human breaking

  1223. not God making

  1224. that in a sense

  1225. all

1226. in a very, very real

  1227. and powerful sense

  1228. all evil

1229. is a perversion of good

  1230. a corruption of good

  1231. a disordering of good

  1232. a removing of good

  1233. a breaking of good

  1234. a bending of good

  1235. a bending of good

1236. that that's what all evil is

1237. God made the world good

  1238. but we pervert

  1239. corrupt

  1240. disrupt

  1241. disorder

  1242. remove

  1243. unbalance

1244. the words can go on

  1245. and on and on

  1246. God is always opposed

  1247. to evil

  1248. and that's why

  1249. his justice

  1250. comes in

  1251. that he is always

  1252. opposed

  1253. to evil

  1254. and so it is

  1255. if you understand this

  1256. you can see

1257. why is it that there's good

1258. and evil in the world

1259. why is it that we

  1260. can differ in particulars

1261. well we differ in particulars

  1262. because

  1263. I don't want to acknowledge

  1264. that what I'm doing

  1265. is evil

  1266. I will come up

  1267. for complicated reasons

1268. as to why it is

  1269. I mean to my

  1270. to my Muslim friends

  1271. who are watching

  1272. the big problem

  1273. that you have

  1274. is that the Taliban

  1275. will appeal

  1276. to Muhammad

  1277. and the Hadith

  1278. and the Quran

  1279. to explain

  1280. them taking

  1281. 12 year old girls

  1282. as sex slaves

  1283. and I know that

  1284. if there's any Muslims

  1285. watching this

  1286. or eventually watch it

  1287. I know that you're

  1288. far better than that

  1289. but in fact

  1290. this very very thick

  1291. encounter

  1292. and understanding

  1293. of evil

  1294. and why it is

  1295. that we think

1296. and why we can't even

  1297. argue or talk

  1298. the Christian

  1299. revelation

  1300. ultimately based on

  1301. Jesus

  1302. makes our experience

  1303. very powerful

  1304. and real

  1305. and know that

  1306. God is always

  1307. and only opposed

  1308. to all moral

  1309. wrongdoing

  1310. he never

  1311. ever

  1312. ever

  1313. ever

  1314. ever

  1315. ever

  1316. ever

  1317. gives in

  1318. if you could

  1319. put up the final

  1320. point

  1321. your only hope

  1322. is the Lord

  1323. Jesus Christ

  1324. your only hope

  1325. is the Lord

  1326. Jesus Christ

  1327. see this is one

  1328. of the things

  1329. which the Christian

  1330. faith provides

  1331. for us

  1332. that our Jewish

  1333. friends don't yet

  1334. realize

  1335. and our Muslim

  1336. friends don't have

  1337. that particular

  1338. option as well

  1339. you see the fact

  1340. of the matter

  1341. is

  1342. if I want to

  1343. know how to

  1344. deal with evil

  1345. I want to

  1346. know how to

  1347. deal with the

  1348. evil within myself

  1349. and I want to

  1350. know how to

  1351. live with evil

  1352. it's not just

  1353. that I can do

  1354. it by myself

  1355. I need someone

  1356. to walk with me

1357. and I need to be

  1358. delivered

  1359. and that's what

  1360. the Christian faith

  1361. provides

  1362. that in fact

  1363. what we have

  1364. is we have

  1365. this ancient

  1366. promise

  1367. which is in

  1368. the Old Testament

  1369. scriptures

  1370. that God

  1371. would send

  1372. an Emmanuel

  1373. that God

  1374. would send

  1375. one who

  1376. would crush

  1377. the serpent

  1378. that God

  1379. would send

  1380. one that

  1381. means by which

  1382. all things

  1383. would be

  1384. renewed

  1385. and that's

  1386. who we have

  1387. in the person

  1388. of Jesus

  1389. you read

  1390. Matthew chapter

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  1391. 1

  1392. that in fact

  1393. God

  1394. sends

  1395. his son

  1396. to be

  1397. in the midst

  1398. of all of

  1399. our mess

  1400. and all

  1401. of the evil

  1402. and he has

  1403. the same

  1404. nature as

  1405. us

  1406. and he has

  1407. evil that

  1408. happens to

  1409. him

  1410. he lives

  1411. in a world

  1412. where there's

  1413. very clearly

  1414. evil

  1415. the Jewish

  1416. people are

  1417. a conquered

  1418. people

  1419. there is

  1420. the empire

  1421. which is

  1422. over them

  1423. there's

  1424. the Roman

  1425. authorities

  1426. which are

  1427. over them

  1428. which will

  1429. eventually

  1430. in the year

  1431. 70 AD

  1432. which will

  1433. destroy them

  1434. as a nation

  1435. and destroy

  1436. their temple

  1437. and he is

  1438. part of that

  1439. subject people

  1440. and he's

  1441. misunderstood

  1442. by his

  1443. parents

  1444. and his

  1445. family

  1446. and his

  1447. friends

  1448. and he's

  1449. put to

  1450. death

  1451. on trumped

  1452. up charges

  1453. and the

  1454. demands of

  1455. justice

  1456. that should

  1457. be there

  1458. by the

  1459. different

  1460. authorities

  1461. are completely

  1462. and utterly

  1463. done away

  1464. with for

  1465. reasons of

  1466. political

  1467. expediency

  1468. and he lives

  1469. and he lives

  1470. amongst human

  1471. beings

  1472. he lives

  1473. amongst our

  1474. mess

  1475. he lives

  1476. amongst the

  1477. injustice

  1478. and the

  1479. evil

  1480. and the

  1481. pride

  1482. and the

  1483. vanity

  1484. and the

  1485. lust

  1486. and the

  1487. gluttony

  1488. and the

  1489. sloth of

  1490. the world

  1491. and he

  1492. lives

  1493. amongst

  1494. us

  1495. but he

  1496. never

  1497. does

  1498. evil

  1499. and so

  1500. it is

  1501. that when

  1502. he dies

  1503. upon the

  1504. cross

  1505. as an

  1506. unjust

  1507. victim

  1508. listen

  1509. John was

  1510. a good

  1511. worship

  1512. leader

  1513. but he

  1514. can't

  1515. die

  1516. for the

  1517. human

  1518. race

  1519. Andrew's

  1520. a good

  1521. geek

  1522. but he

  1523. can't

  1524. die

  1525. for the

  1526. human

  1527. race

  1528. his wife

  1529. is way

  1530. better

  1531. than him

  1532. she

  1533. can't

  1534. die

  1535. for the

  1536. human

  1537. race

  1538. they're

  1539. just

  1540. people

  1541. but surely

  1542. the creator

  1543. of all

  1544. things

  1545. can die

  1546. for all

  1547. is creation

  1548. and that's

  1549. what we

  1550. hear

  1551. the creator

  1552. of all

  1553. things

  1554. enters

  1555. his

  1556. creation

  1557. lives

  1558. the life

  1559. that you

  1560. and I

  1561. could not

  1562. live

  1563. lives

  1564. amidst

  1565. among

  1566. and amidst

  1567. evil

  1568. and injustice

  1569. and hatred

  1570. and prejudice

  1571. and racism

  1572. and discrimination

  1573. and law

  1574. and all of

  1575. those things

  1576. and name

  1577. calling

  1578. he lives

  1579. but never

  1580. succumbs

  1581. to evil

  1582. and when

  1583. he dies

  1584. he dies

  1585. in your

  1586. place

  1587. and mine

  1588. he dies

  1589. to take

  1590. the punishment

  1591. that you

  1592. deserve

  1593. and he

  1594. offers

  1595. in exchange

  1596. he the

  1597. creator

  1598. can do

  1599. this

  1600. for every

  1601. single

  1602. one

  1603. of his

  1604. creation

  1605. and he

  1606. does this

  1607. on your

  1608. behalf

  1609. and offers

  1610. you

  1611. the perfect

  1612. life

  1613. that he

  1614. lived

  1615. that you

  1616. were not

  1617. able to

  1618. live

  1619. but you

  1620. should

  1621. live

  1622. and the

  1623. doom

  1624. that you

  1625. deserve

  1626. falls on

  1627. him

  1628. and God

  1629. is a God

  1630. of justice

  1631. he's a God

  1632. of mercy

  1633. and it's not a matter

  1634. of favoritism

  1635. favoritism

  1636. is when you let

  1637. somebody off

  1638. and justice

  1639. is not

  1640. the demands

  1641. of justice

  1642. are not met

  1643. but this is

  1644. true mercy

  1645. and it's out of

  1646. the goodness

  1647. of God

  1648. that God

  1649. would send

  1650. his son

  1651. to die

  1652. in your

  1653. place

  1654. that you

  1655. could be

  1656. reconciled

  1657. to him

  1658. that you

  1659. could

  1660. he would

  1661. do for you

  1662. what you

  1663. cannot do

  1664. for yourself

  1665. and he's

  1666. not just

  1667. a savior

  1668. that does

  1669. this

  1670. and then

  1671. leaves

  1672. you

  1673. alone

  1674. but the

  1675. Christian

  1676. life

  1677. is a matter

  1678. of learning

  1679. to walk

  1680. with him

  1681. walk with him

  1682. towards the evil

  1683. that you do

  1684. walk with him

  1685. and walk with his

  1686. people to learn

  1687. how to do good

  1688. walk with him

  1689. as you enter

  1690. into the valley

  1691. of the shadow

  1692. of death

  1693. walk with him

  1694. as you get

  1695. the cancer

  1696. diagnosis

  1697. as you get

  1698. the diagnosis

  1699. of dementia

  1700. walk with him

  1701. as you deal

  1702. with the injustice

  1703. in your workplace

  1704. or in your society

  1705. walk with him

  1706. as you suffer

  1707. under it

  1708. walk with him

  1709. as you enter

  1710. into the veil

  1711. of the shadow

  1712. of death

  1713. and beyond

  1714. into death

  1715. he is your savior

  1716. there's not only

  1717. an understanding

  1718. of the world

  1719. which is thick

  1720. and beautiful

  1721. and makes sense

  1722. of it

  1723. but also

  1724. it is an

  1725. account of the world

  1726. that points you

  1727. in the direction

  1728. of where you

  1729. should be going

  1730. and it's not

  1731. merely a pointer

  1732. he walks with you

  1733. when you put

  1734. your faith

  1735. and trust

  1736. in Jesus

  1737. as if you put

  1738. your hand up

  1739. to him

  1740. that he might

  1741. take you

  1742. that he might

  1743. be your savior

  1744. and you can

  1745. never reach him

  1746. but he can reach

  1747. you

  1748. and he reaches

  1749. down

  1750. he grabs

  1751. your hand

  1752. he will never

  1753. let your hand

  1754. go

  1755. you might feel

  1756. at times

  1757. that you aren't

  1758. holding on to

  1759. his hand

  1760. and that might

  1761. be true

  1762. but he never

  1763. lets go of

  1764. your hand

  1765. when you put

  1766. your hand

  1767. on his

  1768. and he is

  1769. the one

  1770. who fits

  1771. you for heaven

  1772. and he is

  1773. the one

  1774. who walks

  1775. with you

  1776. and he is

  1777. the one

  1778. who is your

  1779. hope of glory

  1780. and he is

  1781. your righteousness

  1782. he is your

  1783. peace

  1784. take him

  1785. as your savior

  1786. remember

  1787. that he is

  1788. your savior

  1789. and we come

  1790. together

  1791. because we

  1792. forget

  1793. that's where

  1794. we come

  1795. together

  1796. to remember

  1797. the lord's

  1798. supper

  1799. to remember

  1800. he died

  1801. to remember

  1802. that he will

  1803. return

  1804. remember

  1805. that evil

  1806. will not

  1807. have the

  1808. final word

  1809. remember

  1810. that justice

  1811. will finally

  1812. be done

  1813. that no one

  1814. who has done

  1815. wrong

  1816. will ever

  1817. avoid it

  1818. they might

  1819. avoid it

  1820. on this

  1821. side of

  1822. the grave

  1823. but it

  1824. will not

  1825. end that

  1826. way

  1827. they

  1828. every single

  1829. act of

  1830. evil

  1831. has been

  1832. dealt with

  1833. by jesus

  1834. and if you

  1835. don't accept

  1836. the covering

  1837. of him

  1838. it will be

  1839. dealt with

  1840. to your

  1841. misery

  1842. and undoing

  1843. in the

  1844. final judgment

  1845. walk with

  1846. jesus

  1847. take him

  1848. as your

  1849. savior

  1850. invite you

  1851. to stand

  1852. please

  1853. stand

  1854. just bow

  1855. our heads

  1856. in prayer

  1857. father

  1858. first of

  1859. all

  1860. we just

  1861. father

  1862. right now

  1863. it seems

  1864. as if

  1865. all we

  1866. can do

  1867. is pray

  1868. and we

  1869. just pray

  1870. for those

  1871. precious

  1872. young girls

  1873. taken as

  1874. sex slaves

  1875. in afghanistan

  1876. father

  1877. all we

  1878. can do

  1879. is commend

  1880. them into

  1881. your hands

  1882. right now

  1883. father

  1884. that's all

  1885. we can

  1886. do

  1887. if there

  1888. is more

  1889. that we

  1890. can do

  1891. father

  1892. we pray

  1893. that there

  1894. would be

  1895. something

  1896. maybe

  1897. governments

  1898. could do

  1899. but father

  1900. we commend

  1901. them into

  1902. your hands

  1903. and we

  1904. ask father

  1905. that your

  1906. holy spirit

  1907. would move

  1908. in their

  1909. lives

  1910. we ask

  1911. father

  1912. for the

  1913. conversion

  1914. of the

  1915. taliban

  1916. i confess

  1917. i don't have

  1918. the faith

  1919. to pray

  1920. it but

  1921. father

  1922. i ask

  1923. that you

  1924. would

  1925. you would

  1926. turn their

  1927. hearts

  1928. from evil

  1929. you would

  1930. turn their

  1931. hearts

  1932. to jesus

  1933. the prince

  1934. of peace

  1935. and father

  1936. we ask

  1937. that you

  1938. would help

  1939. us

  1940. to walk

  1941. with jesus

  1942. to know him

  1943. as our

  1944. savior

  1945. and our

  1946. lord

  1947. to walk

  1948. with him

  1949. as we

  1950. confront

  1951. the injustice

  1952. in the

  1953. world

  1954. and walk

  1955. with him

  1956. as we

  1957. confront

  1958. the evil

  1959. within

  1960. ourselves

  1961. that you

  1962. would help

  1963. us father

  1964. to walk

  1965. with jesus

  1966. we give you

  1967. thanks and

  1968. praise that you

  1969. are transforming

  1970. us from one

  1971. degree of glory

  1972. to another

  1973. that your

  1974. means of grace

  1975. are preparing

  1976. us for an

  1977. eternity with

  1978. you

  1979. that one

  1980. day we

  1981. will be fully

  1982. infused with

  1983. your goodness

  1984. and reflect

  1985. your goodness

  1986. and dwell in

  1987. your goodness

  1988. and walk

  1989. in your

  1990. goodness

  1991. and that

  1992. that is our

  1993. hope in

  1994. christ

  1995. and father

  1996. if there are

  1997. any who are

  1998. watching this

  1999. who have not

  2000. given their

  2001. lives to

  2002. jesus by the

  2003. holy spirit

  2004. fall upon

  2005. them

  2006. they might

  2007. open the

  2008. door to

  2009. their life

  2010. and ask

  2011. jesus to

  2012. come in

  2013. and be

  2014. their

  2015. savior

  2016. and lord

  2017. and all

  2018. these things

  2019. we ask in

  2020. the name

  2021. of jesus

  2022. your son

  2023. and our

  2024. savior

  2025. amen
