  1. Father, we confess that sometimes because the things that you offer for us seem very small,

  2. that we don't think they're very powerful or very important, and we just sort of disregard them.

  3. Father, we confess that this is a mistake on our part.

  4. We ask, Father, that you help us not to despise the small things that you offer and the small things that you give us,

  5. but to recognize them, Father, as means of grace that will grow and flourish into something, well, glorious.

  6. We ask, Father, that your Holy Spirit would prepare our hearts and minds and lives to receive your word this morning.

  7. And we ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Savior. Amen.

  8. Please be seated.

  9. Thank you.

  10. True or not, I mean, I have no idea that that, I guess, might or might not eventually come out.

  11. But generally speaking, we don't like the idea that we can be under surveillance all of the time.

  12. If you read, if you see a movie where there is people are always under surveillance,

  13. generally speaking, we see that as an evil thing.

  14. If we read a novel that has somebody always under surveillance,

  15. we tend to see that as an evil thing, not as a good thing.

  16. Occasionally we might see it as a good thing.

  17. But generally, if we have a society where everything is being observed by somebody all of the time,

  18. we find that as going against our rights, the dignity of us as a human being.

  19. So there's a bit of a puzzle.

  20. I don't know how many of you are paying very close attention.

  21. I'm not judging or anything like that.

  22. But in the gospel text, which I just read, it seemed to say that God keeps us under constant surveillance.

  23. So the question is, why is it that it's bad for the state but good for God?

  24. And why is it that Christians actually would even, like, why would we even want a God that constantly keeps us under surveillance?

  25. So we're going to look at this.

  26. And actually, it might sound like a very, very oppressive idea.

  27. And a lot of us resent this idea and hope it's not true.

  28. But actually, if we press into it and look at how it's talked about, it's actually profoundly good news.

  29. So if you take your Bibles and turn with me to Mark chapter 4, verse 21, we'll look at this and other ideas connected to it.

    Mark 4:21

  30. If you're online with us for the first time, we preach through books of the Bible and we're going through the book of Mark.

  31. Sort of we're calling the series Jesus is King with a bit of a nod to Kanye West.

  32. And so what's just gone on before this is Jesus has sort of talked about two things.

  33. One of them is, why is it that God is sort of a, both reveals himself but is also hidden, which I talked about more last week.

  34. I'll talk about it a little bit today.

  35. And a famous parable in Christian circles called the parable of the sower.

  36. And that's what's just happened.

  37. And now the story continues with verse 21.

  38. And it goes like this.

  39. And Jesus said to them, actually, what I should just back up and say, what we're going to get today is we're going to look like at a couple of, in a sense, sayings or proverbs or aphorisms.

  40. And then two parables.

  41. So these are a couple of sort of like proverbs or sayings that comes first.

  42. Verse 21.

  43. Now just pause because it's going to continue.

  44. The rest of the sort of the insight about that's going to continue.

  45. Generally speaking, the Bible is translated very, very well into English.

  46. But sometimes, some of you here, I know there's at least one person in the room who knows four languages.

  47. Many of you know two or three.

  48. And you know that sometimes when you translate from one language into another, there's a bit of a problem sometimes that the sense of the original doesn't translate very well into the second language.

  49. And this is one of those verses where it is.

  50. And so I'm going to mention it because it's sort of like what's translated is good, but it's actually even more powerful if you hear it in the literal sense.

  51. And what and the issue is, is that in the original language, sorry, a bit of a grammar moment.

  52. But in the original language, in the text, if you look at the text again, is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket or under a bed and not on a stand.

  53. And in the text, it's talking about an object and somebody or something is, somebody is bringing the lamp in and all.

  54. But in the original language, the lamp is the subject.

  55. And on top of that, in the original language, the grammar implies that the lamp is a person, not an object.

  56. And so it would really be better if it's translated.

  57. So more literally, it says this.

  58. Does the lamp come in in order that it might be placed under the bowl or under the bed?

  59. Does the lamp come in in order, and it should really almost be in order that he might be placed under the bowl or under the bed?

  60. And you can see how that's sort of just a bit awkward in English.

  61. But that's what it's actually saying.

  62. And so that's the image.

  63. It's actually, for those of you who know the Bible at all well, it's very similar in John chapter 1, 1 to 14.

    John 1 chapter mention

  64. And we've been at church over Christmas, and it talks about the light.

  65. You know, the word is the light, and the light comes into the world, and the light, the darkness tries to overcome it, but the light, you know, reveals.

  66. It's the same idea as John chapter 1, 1 to 14, only put in the words of this little aphorism or proverb.

    John 1 chapter mention

  67. So, you know, so does the lamp come in in order to be put under a basket or under a bed and not on a stand?

  68. And then it goes on, for nothing, verse 22, for nothing is hidden except to be made manifest, nor is anything secret except to come to light.

  69. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.

  70. So anything hidden except to be made manifest, in other words, to be able to be seen, and any secret will eventually come to light.

  71. And you can see that this, well, here, actually, if you could put up the first point, here's the first point.

  72. The true and greater light has been revealed, will be fully revealed, and will fully reveal all things.

  73. The true and greater light has been revealed, that's Jesus, will be fully revealed, that is, when he comes again in glory, or when we see him face to face.

  74. And will fully reveal all things.

  75. So, I mean, that's, in fact, actually, this is one of the doctrines, one of the things which separates the Christian worldview from basically how most Canadians think.

  76. This idea that there's absolutely nothing, that every second, every thought, every imagination, every desire, every word, every action is seen by God, with no exception.

  77. There's absolutely nothing which is secret.

  78. He sees all.

  79. Now, for most Canadians, and probably for most of us, I mean, part of the problem for us as Christians is we don't really live most of our lives as if that's the case.

  80. We often still function as if we get away with keeping things hidden from God, that we can do things in secret without him seeing it.

  81. But this is a Christian doctrine, and I have to confess, it does sound like a very frightening doctrine or idea, and something which almost seems a bit oppressive.

  82. And if, in fact, the gospel just ended with this, we'd probably have, you know, probably would be pretty reasonable to find this emotionally repulsive and not very helpful.

  83. But Jesus says this in the context of this larger story of the gospel.

  84. And what we see by the time the gospel comes to an end is that the light, the true and greater light, dies for human beings like you and me, who are a mixture of light and darkness.

  85. That's one of the ways that the gospel of John describes us, that every human being is a mixture of light and darkness.

  86. Some human beings, you can see a fair amount of light, some very little.

  87. Some human beings, you see an awful lot of darkness and some very little.

  88. I mean, the Bible also say that ultimately no light that we see in any human being ultimately comes from the human being.

  89. It comes from God.

  90. Human beings are mirrors in that sense.

  91. We reflect back the light of God rather than our source of light ourselves.

  92. But the Bible ends up finishing the story by making it very, very clear that when you come to Mark chapter 15, what you see is the darkness swallowing the light.

    Mark 15 chapter mention

  93. And in a sense, what you see there is that lies have swallowed the light.

  94. Injustice has swallowed the light.

  95. Envy and pride and greed has swallowed the light.

  96. Insecurity has swallowed the light.

  97. Imperial power has swallowed the light.

  98. Religion has swallowed the light.

  99. And chapter 15 ends with the darkness having swallowed the light.

  100. But chapter 16 reveals this mystery.

  101. That out of God's love for us, that the true light that sees every single thing there is to know about human beings,

  102. willingly, even though the true light knew every single thing about you,

  103. including the darkness in your life that you have not yet come to recognize or understand,

  104. that seeing all of that, the true light died for you.

  105. And the true light was swallowed with darkness so that the true light could swallow darkness.

  106. That that's how the true light defeats the darkness.

  107. So it looks at the end of chapter 15 as if the darkness has swallowed the true light.

  108. But by the end of chapter 16, you understand that the true light was swallowed by darkness

  109. so that the true light could swallow darkness.

  110. And that in fact, this is actually the most profound description of love.

  111. This is actually the most profound description of love.

  112. We all keep things away from other people.

  113. I mean, we all don't express all of our thoughts and judgments and prejudices and hatreds and pettiness

  114. and greed and envy.

  115. Like we keep that from them.

  116. We keep how we maybe are in a crowd and we evaluate the type of shoes that people have

  117. or how their clothes match or whether they're well-groomed

  118. or whether they're good-looking or bad-looking

  119. or whether they look stupid or foolish.

  120. Like we hide those things all of the time.

  121. And we worry if all of a sudden, if even for a day,

  122. our loved one, our family member or our close friends,

  123. we're actually able to be privy, actually we're able to understand and hear

  124. every one of our judgments that we make throughout the day

  125. where we all actually probably would believe

  126. that we wouldn't have a friend at the end of the day

  127. and that our marriage might be at an end at the end of the day,

  128. that our family would have broken up at the end of the day,

  129. that we sort of believe that to maintain love,

  130. we have to maintain privacy and secrecy.

  131. In fact, that's not even counting the fact that some of us

  132. just so easily and effortlessly make judgments about people

  133. that we don't even recognize that we're doing it.

  134. We don't even recognize the fact that we go through the mall

  135. or go through some other place,

  136. making judgment after judgment after judgment.

  137. And we've just become so part of our inner life

  138. that we don't realize that we're doing it.

  139. And it might be that all of a sudden,

  140. even me saying something like this, we realize,

  141. well, actually I do do that.

  142. And if even for only 24 hours that was completely revealed to our loved ones,

  143. they wouldn't love us.

  144. Because we see that our evil, our darkness, is a barrier to love.

  145. And so this small little saying of Jesus,

  146. obviously referring to himself,

  147. actually shows like a type of love that's almost incomprehensible to us.

  148. like a perfect love,

  149. like a love that would actually die for the darkness,

  150. yet has a perfect, clear-sighted, clear-eyed knowledge

  151. of the darkness in each one of us.

  152. And yet he chose to die for you and for me.

  153. Now,

  154. some of us might actually say,

  155. well, there's a bit of a pushback to all of this,

  156. and say, well, okay, George, that's good, I guess.

  157. But, George, don't you think there's something a little bit unfair

  158. with how God,

  159. I mean, on one level, yeah, that is really,

  160. that is something,

  161. that the light would die for the darkness,

  162. and that the true light would know every single thing

  163. there is to know about you and me,

  164. and yet still die.

  165. But, George, don't you think it's,

  166. like, don't you think it's a little bit unfair

  167. that the darkness within us

  168. is sort of evaluated by God's perfect standard?

  169. Like, don't you think it's a little bit, George,

  170. like God isn't giving you any opportunity to grow?

  171. Like, you know, think about it, George.

  172. If you put kids in grade one,

  173. and you judge them by somebody who had,

  174. you gave them a question

  175. that would be on, like, a PhD exam,

  176. that was the math test,

  177. and if they couldn't pass a PhD-level math test,

  178. I mean, not a PhD in, like, English or something,

  179. a PhD in math,

  180. if they had to pass that test,

  181. that very, very high-level test,

  182. that's not even perfect, but very high-level,

  183. of course, all the kids in grade one are going to fail.

  184. They're going to fail all the time.

  185. They'd never get out of grade one.

  186. Like, that seems almost unfair.

  187. And that's why it's very interesting what Jesus,

  188. it's almost as if he anticipates that type of a pushback

  189. by the very next thing that he says,

  190. which is actually quite remarkable.

  191. And for those of you who really know the Bible well,

  192. it's very similar to what Paul writes in Romans chapter 2.

    Romans 2 chapter mention

  193. Look what he says next.

  194. Verse 24.

  195. Pay attention to what you hear.

  196. And he said to them,

  197. pay attention to what you hear.

  198. In other words, just back up a little bit.

  199. Basically, in the two verses,

  200. 23 and 24,

  201. three times he tells you to hear.

  202. So it would be as if,

  203. I mean, I don't have a hearing aid in right now.

  204. I have very little hearing in my right ear.

  205. And in fact, it's a little bit distracting right now.

  206. For some reason,

  207. I have a very, very, very, very, very loud

  208. ringing noise in my right ear.

  209. Those of you who have hearing problems

  210. are familiar with that,

  211. and I don't have my hearing aid in,

  212. which would sort of, you know, stop it.

  213. But what the Bible is saying,

  214. just because a person can put their hearing aid in

  215. and their hearing aid's working

  216. doesn't mean they listen.

  217. So when it says hear,

  218. it's meaning listen.

  219. Okay?

  220. And so he says that this is the third time.

  221. And then what is it said?

  222. So pay attention to what you hear.

  223. The third time he says,

  224. make sure you listen.

  225. And here's what he says.

  226. With the measure you use,

  227. it will be measured to you,

  228. and still more will be added to you.

  229. I'll say it again.

  230. With the measure you use,

  231. it will be measured to you,

  232. and still more will be added to you.

  233. Now, this is a good translation,

  234. although interestingly enough,

  235. if you translate it very literally,

  236. which you're going to see on the screen in a moment,

  237. it actually makes it even simpler

  238. and clearer to understand.

  239. And then I'll read the next verse.

  240. Literally it goes,

  241. in whatever measure you measure,

  242. it will be measured to you

  243. and will be added to you.

  244. In whatever measure you measure,

  245. it will be measured to you

  246. and will be added to you.

  247. In other words,

  248. whatever measure you use,

  249. that's the measure God's going to use.

  250. He's going to give that measure to you.

  251. He's going to give it to you back.

  252. There's a Jewish proverb

  253. that developed a little bit after this

  254. that's captured in ancient Jewish writings,

  255. which helps to maybe make it

  256. a little bit easier for us to understand.

  257. And the Jewish proverb is,

  258. in the pot in which you cook others,

  259. you will be cooked.

  260. In the pot in which you cook others,

  261. you will be cooked.

  262. So I'll say that again.

  263. In the pot in which you cook others,

  264. you will be cooked.

  265. And then verse 25,

  266. for to the one who has,

  267. more will be given.

  268. And from the one who has not,

  269. even what he has will be taken away,

  270. which almost sounds like

  271. it's a little bit unfair.

  272. But here's what the text is saying,

  273. which is a very, very remarkable thing.

  274. And it points in this direction,

  275. this constant direction

  276. that only Christianity has,

  277. that only the gospel has,

  278. that just as God condescends

  279. the true light,

  280. the true and greater light,

  281. for your good,

  282. not for his own,

  283. but for your good,

  284. to deal with the darkness in you

  285. that you cannot deal with for yourself,

  286. the true and greater light

  287. gets swallowed by darkness,

  288. condescends to be swallowed by darkness.

  289. We see even that this,

  290. this principle of condescension

  291. rooted in love and justice

  292. even goes to how God judges.

  293. If you could put up the point,

  294. it goes like this.

  295. The Lord God Almighty

  296. can condescend to put you

  297. in the same pot

  298. that you put others in.

  299. The Lord God Almighty

  300. can condescend to put you

  301. in the same pot

  302. that you put others in.

  303. So what does that mean?

  304. That means this,

  305. that it's not as if

  306. God's going to say,

  307. well, listen,

  308. all grade ones have to pass,

  309. grade one students

  310. in their math tests

  311. have to pass the same test

  312. that a PhD,

  313. doing a PhD in math,

  314. has to pass

  315. as part of the examinations

  316. for him or her.

  317. No, what it says here

  318. is God says,

  319. okay, I understand

  320. that maybe the true light

  321. on one level,

  322. the true light

  323. that sees everything truly,

  324. that might be

  325. a very high standard

  326. and very intimidating for you.

  327. It might even seem

  328. as if that's a bit unfair

  329. for me to judge you by this.

  330. So what I'm going to do

  331. is I'm just going to judge you

  332. by the way you judge yourself.

  333. No, so not the way

  334. you judge yourself,

  335. but by the way

  336. you judge others.

  337. So in a sense,

  338. all I have to do

  339. is say, okay,

  340. well, how does George,

  341. how does George

  342. judge drivers?

  343. Well, I'll just play back

  344. George's judgments

  345. on other drivers.

  346. Okay?

  347. And now we're going to

  348. take a video

  349. and watch George drive.

  350. Okay?

  351. I'm going to take

  352. the way George judges

  353. what people say

  354. as to whether,

  355. you know,

  356. it's smart or dumb

  357. or foolish.

  358. And now we're going

  359. to replay,

  360. we got George's judgments,

  361. now we're going to replay

  362. what George says.

  363. Now, unless you are

  364. a raving narcissist,

  365. this should worry you.

  366. Because the fact of the matter

  367. is we won't pass

  368. our own moral judgments.

  369. In other words,

  370. it's not as if God will say,

  371. well, we'll look at the pot

  372. that you put people in

  373. and boy,

  374. after I've looked at George's life,

  375. I don't have to put him

  376. in that pot

  377. because he never violates

  378. his judgments

  379. on other people.

  380. No,

  381. if God used that judgment,

  382. I would be in the pot.

  383. The pot that I cook others in,

  384. I would be cooked in as well.

  385. This is part of God's

  386. great condescension.

  387. It's part of what Paul

  388. talks about in Romans 2.

  389. And it shows,

  390. in a sense,

  391. the profound justice of God

  392. that when we appear

  393. before the judgment seat

  394. of Christ,

  395. that nobody will be able

  396. to say they have an excuse.

  397. In fact,

  398. actually,

  399. the flip side,

  400. the profound knowledge

  401. that God sees

  402. each of us perfectly

  403. is a profound comfort

  404. for those of us

  405. who are in Christ

  406. when we come to him

  407. in prayer.

  408. Because,

  409. you see,

  410. the fact of the matter is

  411. is that when we come

  412. to confess our sins,

  413. we don't have to try

  414. to explain to God.

  415. We don't have to give

  416. excuses to God.

  417. Because,

  418. you see,

  419. God sees you and me

  420. perfectly,

  421. and because he sees

  422. you and me perfectly,

  423. he already knows

  424. the different things

  425. that we might want

  426. to say that,

  427. you know,

  428. might temper

  429. the moral judgment.

  430. He knows it better

  431. than I do.

  432. He knows it better

  433. than you do.

  434. He already,

  435. in a sense,

  436. applies it.

  437. And yet,

  438. at the same time,

  439. we would stand

  440. before God

  441. and we would,

  442. well,

  443. literally,

  444. it would be obvious

  445. that we deserve

  446. to be cooked

  447. in lots of pots,

  448. that we can't even

  449. survive our own

  450. moral judgments.

  451. but some of you

  452. might push it back

  453. and say,

  454. but George,

  455. doesn't the text say,

  456. like,

  457. doesn't it almost seem

  458. as if God adds

  459. things to you?

  460. Look what it says,

  461. like in verse 25,

  462. for to the one

  463. who has more

  464. will be given

  465. and from the one

  466. who has not,

  467. even what he has

  468. will be taken away.

  469. Like,

  470. George,

  471. that doesn't seem fair.

  472. And,

  473. you know,

  474. it just seems

  475. as if God is like

  476. all those people

  477. in my life.

  478. I get passed over,

  479. I do all the hard work

  480. and I get passed over

  481. for the promotion

  482. and somebody

  483. who just doesn't

  484. deserve it

  485. gets the promotion

  486. and it just seems

  487. as if God

  488. or fate

  489. or karma

  490. or whatever

  491. just isn't really fair

  492. and it keeps adding

  493. things to me

  494. that I,

  495. you know,

  496. it just,

  497. like,

  498. George,

  499. that text

  500. just doesn't seem

  501. to be fair.

  502. Well,

  503. it actually is fair

  504. and what it is

  505. is it's deeply human.

  506. In fact,

  507. it really,

  508. maybe one of the things

  509. that we should be

  510. starting to talk about

  511. is that the only

  512. true humanism

  513. is Christianity.

  514. Christianity is the true

  515. and deep

  516. and thick

  517. humanism

  518. because of the way

  519. it portrays

  520. us.

  521. Like,

  522. just take a step back

  523. before I talk about this

  524. a bit more directly,

  525. but one of the things

  526. that we have a problem

  527. of in our culture

  528. that's very unrecognized

  529. by people,

  530. like,

  531. if you follow

  532. the,

  533. the,

  534. what goes on

  535. in movies

  536. and in lots of novels

  537. and what goes on

  538. especially in academia

  539. right now

  540. and amongst

  541. the academic elites

  542. is there's two

  543. very contradictory ideas

  544. that are talked about

  545. at the same time,

  546. but because people

  547. believe the contradictory

  548. beliefs,

  549. they don't recognize

  550. them as contradictory.

  551. They just don't recognize

  552. that they're incoherent.

  553. Well,

  554. what do I mean by it?

  555. Well,

  556. on one hand,

  557. you have all this theory,

  558. whether it's critical race theory

  559. or queer theory

  560. or different other types

  561. of theory

  562. and in those types

  563. of theory,

  564. what you have

  565. is you have

  566. very,

  567. very powerful

  568. social forces

  569. and human beings

  570. are portrayed

  571. as being essentially

  572. passive

  573. and formed

  574. by these forces

  575. that the color

  576. of your skin

  577. fundamentally determines

  578. your destiny

  579. and how other people

  580. view you

  581. and your prejudice

  582. or your lack

  583. of prejudice,

  584. your accountability,

  585. your lack

  586. of accountability,

  587. that human beings

  588. are fundamentally

  589. passive,

  590. especially by these

  591. categories of race

  592. or sexuality,

  593. that you're just

  594. propelled into this

  595. social thing

  596. and you're just

  597. almost like a

  598. quirk that just

  599. moves along

  600. in the currents

  601. of the culture

  602. and that's just

  603. the way things are.

  604. And that's

  605. what caused

  606. lots of huge debates

  607. in the United States,

  608. not as many here

  609. in Canada,

  610. but that's actually

  611. the way a lot

  612. of elites

  613. and a lot

  614. of people

  615. talk.

  616. But on the other

  617. hand,

  618. you can have

  619. somebody say that

  620. and then 10 minutes

  621. later talk

  622. from a very,

  623. very different

  624. perspective

  625. and the very

  626. different perspective

  627. is this,

  628. which we're also

  629. very familiar with.

  630. Nobody can tell you

  631. who you really are,

  632. only you know

  633. who you really are.

  634. And it's incumbent

  635. upon you to not only

  636. figure out who you

  637. really are in terms

  638. of your desires,

  639. but to pursue that.

  640. You need to be authentic

  641. and to need to be

  642. authentic,

  643. you need to be

  644. autonomous,

  645. you need to be not

  646. to be under control

  647. or the judgment

  648. of any person,

  649. you need to pursue,

  650. you need to go

  651. for that,

  652. go for that,

  653. and you can go

  654. for that,

  655. and you can actualize

  656. that,

  657. and people deserve

  658. to applaud you

  659. as you pursue

  660. this thing

  661. within yourself.

  662. But if you think

  663. about it for a second,

  664. those are two

  665. completely opposite

  666. views of the person.

  667. Two completely

  668. opposite views

  669. of the person.

  670. And for people

  671. who are completely

  672. consumed by this,

  673. the only reason

  674. that never,

  675. the incoherence

  676. doesn't strike them

  677. is because everybody

  678. or many,

  679. many people

  680. talk in the same

  681. categories,

  682. but they're very,

  683. very inconsistent.

  684. What the Bible says

  685. is something very

  686. different.

  687. If you could put it

  688. up on the screen,

  689. that would be

  690. very helpful.

  691. You are not

  692. plastic,

  693. you are not

  694. passive,

  695. and you are not

  696. shielded from

  697. the eyes of God,

  698. but you are

  699. created,

  700. active,

  701. and seen

  702. by him.

  703. You are

  704. creative,

  705. created,

  706. active,

  707. and seen

  708. by him.

  709. So human beings

  710. are created

  711. by the loving

  712. triune God.

  713. It means that we

  714. have a particular

  715. type of nature.

  716. And part of that

  717. particular nature

  718. is that we are

  719. within the concept

  720. that we're

  721. creatures,

  722. not God.

  723. Obviously,

  724. that means we

  725. can't just sort

  726. of do anything,

  727. but as part of

  728. the fact that

  729. we are created,

  730. we are created

  731. as active

  732. creatures,

  733. that human

  734. beings have

  735. direction

  736. and momentum.

  737. And that's

  738. what's being

  739. captured in

  740. verse 25.

  741. You think about

  742. it for a second,

  743. there's momentum.

  744. You believe a

  745. lie,

  746. and you tell

  747. a lie.

  748. And when you

  749. believe a lie

  750. and tell a lie,

  751. it is far easier

  752. to believe another

  753. lie,

  754. and to tell

  755. another lie.

  756. And in fact,

  757. when you tell a lie,

  758. you often have to

  759. tell other lies.

  760. There's a momentum

  761. to lying.

  762. When you believe

  763. a lie,

  764. when you sort of

  765. turn your mind

  766. off and say,

  767. well,

  768. how can that

  769. possibly be true?

  770. But you realize

  771. that if you

  772. voice your

  773. doubts

  774. about that lie,

  775. it's going to

  776. cause harm to you,

  777. and so you

  778. believe the lie.

  779. And once you

  780. believe the lie,

  781. it's far easier

  782. to believe a

  783. second lie.

  784. And once you

  785. believe that

  786. second lie,

  787. it's far easier

  788. to believe a

  789. third lie.

  790. In fact,

  791. part of what

  792. makes human

  793. beings human

  794. beings is that

  795. it's almost as

  796. if in lots of

  797. different areas

  798. of our lives,

  799. we're like a

  800. snowball rolling

  801. down a slope

  802. that can gather

  803. up more snow

  804. as it goes.

  805. And it's not

  806. only in terms

  807. of bad things,

  808. but it's in

  809. good things.

  810. That when you

  811. have the courage

  812. to speak the

  813. truth,

  814. and then you

  815. survive it,

  816. it's easier to

  817. speak the truth

  818. a second time.

  819. Or in love,

  820. that when you

  821. do something

  822. which is

  823. loving to

  824. your family

  825. members or

  826. to your

  827. friends or

  828. to your

  829. spouse or

  830. to your

  831. neighbors,

  832. there's in a

  833. sense a type

  834. of momentum

  835. to that love.

  836. And so that's

  837. what the Bible

  838. is just saying.

  839. The Bible is

  840. saying here

  841. something very,

  842. very, very

  843. human and

  844. very, very

  845. profound.

  846. You are made

  847. in the image

  848. of God.

  849. You have a

  850. nature.

  851. nature.

  852. And part of

  853. that nature

  854. is to be

  855. active,

  856. not passive.

  857. And because

  858. you are a

  859. creature created

  860. in the image

  861. of God,

  862. God the

  863. creator always

  864. sees his

  865. creature.

  866. And that's

  867. actually part

  868. of the reason

  869. why the

  870. gospel provides

  871. you with

  872. profound hope.

  873. If you put

  874. up point

  875. number four,

  876. it is only

  877. the person

  878. and work

  879. of the Lord

  880. Jesus Christ

  881. that can

  882. give you

  883. hope for

  884. the new

  885. life.

  886. It is only

  887. the person

  888. and work

  889. of the Lord

  890. Jesus Christ

  891. that can

  892. give you

  893. hope for

  894. the new

  895. life.

  896. One of the

  897. problems

  898. that we

  899. have with

  900. religion

  901. is that

  902. in religion

  903. you have

  904. to try

  905. to make

  906. it look

  907. like you're

  908. a good

  909. person.

  910. And that

  911. usually means

  912. that we

  913. have to

  914. either tell

  915. lies to

  916. ourselves

  917. about what

  918. we're doing

  919. or make

  920. excuses for

  921. ourselves

  922. or act

  923. very,

  924. very aggressively

  925. to others

  926. or put

  927. on fronts

  928. to others

  929. and it

  930. always leads

  931. to a great

  932. deal of

  933. insecurity

  934. because

  935. once again

  936. unless you're

  937. a raving

  938. narcissist

  939. who are

  940. by almost

  941. definition

  942. profoundly

  943. insecure

  944. you realize

  945. that you're

  946. not quite

  947. as holy

  948. or good

  949. as it

  950. seems

  951. that you

  952. start to

  953. become aware

  954. of your

  955. pride

  956. or your

  957. greed

  958. or your

  959. envy

  960. or the

  961. jealousy

  962. that you

  963. have for

  964. others

  965. or the

  966. desire

  967. for

  968. rivalry

  969. that you

  970. have

  971. for

  972. others

  973. but you

  974. can't

  975. let that

  976. out

  977. and you

  978. can't

  979. really

  980. look at

  981. it

  982. because if

  983. you do

  984. you lose

  985. it's sort

  986. of shameful

  987. you lose

  988. your standing

  989. before others

  990. and you worry

  991. that you lose

  992. your standing

  993. before God

  994. and there's

  995. another problem

  996. in the religious

  997. life or just

  998. the human

  999. life is that

  1000. what happens

  1001. when you realize

  1002. something about

  1003. your past

  1004. that five

  1005. years later

  1006. or ten years

  1007. later and

  1008. pardon my

  1009. language I'm

  1010. just going to

  1011. speak the way

  1012. many Canadians

  1013. do and all

  1014. of a sudden

  1015. you say oh

  1016. my God

  1017. I used to

  1018. do that to

  1019. my spouse

  1020. or oh

  1021. my good

  1022. gracious

  1023. I said

  1024. that to

  1025. my parents

  1026. that's what

  1027. I used to

  1028. do to

  1029. my parents

  1030. good

  1031. gracious

  1032. that's

  1033. actually

  1034. what I

  1035. used to

  1036. how I

  1037. used to

  1038. treat my

  1039. employees

  1040. five years

  1041. or ten

  1042. years

  1043. or twenty

  1044. years

  1045. or thirty

  1046. years

  1047. ago

  1048. and like

  1049. where do

  1050. you go

  1051. with that

  1052. and what

  1053. do you

  1054. do with

  1055. that

  1056. but you

  1057. see here's

  1058. the profound

  1059. difference

  1060. that the

  1061. gospel

  1062. makes

  1063. remember

  1064. that in

  1065. a sense

  1066. what happens

  1067. is that the

  1068. pot that you

  1069. cook others

  1070. in as you

  1071. develop more

  1072. moral clarity

  1073. it starts to

  1074. you start to

  1075. realize that

  1076. there's other

  1077. things that

  1078. you would have

  1079. that really

  1080. you hadn't

  1081. really realized

  1082. that that was

  1083. a judgment

  1084. you were making

  1085. upon other

  1086. people or that

  1087. what you were

  1088. doing was all

  1089. wrong and now

  1090. you realize it

  1091. was wrong and

  1092. it's five or

  1093. ten or twenty

  1094. years in the

  1095. past and of

  1096. course you can

  1097. do certain

  1098. types of

  1099. things like

  1100. make reparations

  1101. or apologize

  1102. you know many

  1103. years later but

  1104. at the end of

  1105. the day there's

  1106. still this

  1107. problem of

  1108. conscience but

  1109. the wonderful

  1110. thing about the

  1111. gospel is that

  1112. when Jesus died

  1113. for you on the

  1114. cross he knew

  1115. all of the

  1116. darkness in

  1117. your life

  1118. the darkness

  1119. that you discover

  1120. that was in

  1121. there that you

  1122. didn't realize it

  1123. was there a year

  1124. ago it was there

  1125. a year ago you

  1126. just didn't see

  1127. it but he saw

  1128. it when he died

  1129. for you

  1130. all of the

  1131. darkness in

  1132. your life he

  1133. saw all of it

  1134. every single

  1135. bit of darkness

  1136. he saw when he

  1137. died for you

  1138. like every

  1139. single bit

  1140. he saw when

  1141. he died for

  1142. you

  1143. and you see

  1144. that's

  1145. partially why

  1146. the gospel is

  1147. so different

  1148. than religion

  1149. and as the

  1150. gospel becomes

  1151. more real and

  1152. more precious to

  1153. you it really

  1154. does provide a

  1155. place that you

  1156. can start to

  1157. look at the

  1158. things in your

  1159. life that are

  1160. just wrong

  1161. that were just

  1162. wrong

  1163. without it

  1164. unmaking you

  1165. he always knew

  1166. you were proud

  1167. self-centered

  1168. greedy

  1169. glutton

  1170. filled with

  1171. lust

  1172. he knew that

  1173. about you when

  1174. he died

  1175. he knew your

  1176. prejudices when

  1177. he died for

  1178. you

  1179. it's a shock

  1180. to you but

  1181. it's not to

  1182. him

  1183. and so the

  1184. gospel both

  1185. provides you a

  1186. place where you

  1187. can begin to

  1188. look at your

  1189. life with

  1190. with honesty

  1191. and with

  1192. honesty not

  1193. where you have

  1194. to say well

  1195. that's you

  1196. know that the

  1197. fact that I

  1198. had those

  1199. prejudiced views

  1200. ten years ago

  1201. that's just no

1202. no no no no no

  1203. no they were

  1204. wrong then

  1205. they were wrong

  1206. then you can

  1207. see the darkness

  1208. for darkness

  1209. and you can

  1210. repent

  1211. and ask

  1212. for the light

  1213. of Christ to

  1214. be even more

  1215. real and

  1216. powerful in

  1217. you to help

  1218. to put those

  1219. parts of

  1220. darkness in

  1221. you to

  1222. death

  1223. that they

  1224. not have

  1225. any part

  1226. in you

  1227. anymore

  1228. and you can

  1229. be just so

  1230. grateful that

  1231. Jesus knew

  1232. that about

  1233. you too

  1234. when he

  1235. died for

  1236. you

  1237. the darkness

  1238. that shocks

  1239. you now

  1240. is a

  1241. darkness he

  1242. saw

  1243. when he

  1244. died

  1245. on the

  1246. cross

  1247. for you

  1248. thinking

  1249. of you

  1250. just want

  1251. to wrap

  1252. it up

  1253. very closely

  1254. by looking

  1255. at the

  1256. two

  1257. parables

  1258. and

  1259. they go

  1260. like this

  1261. and

  1262. I'm going

  1263. to put

  1264. the point

  1265. up in

  1266. a moment

  1267. but for

  1268. some of

  1269. you who

  1270. are

  1271. Christians

  1272. for a

  1273. long

  1274. time

  1275. and

  1276. you're

  1277. familiar

  1278. with

  1279. Zechariah

  1280. 4

  1281. do not

  1282. despise

  1283. the day

  1284. of small

  1285. things

  1286. that's

  1287. the way

  1288. to understand

  1289. these two

  1290. parables

  1291. do not

  1292. despise

  1293. the day

  1294. of small

  1295. things

  1296. verse

  1297. 20

  1298. 26

  1299. and

  1300. Jesus

  1301. said

  1302. the kingdom

  1303. of God

  1304. is as if

  1305. a man

  1306. should scatter

  1307. seed on

  1308. the ground

  1309. now

  1310. just

  1311. pause

  1312. it's going

  1313. to be

  1314. the same

  1315. type of

  1316. an image

  1317. of a

  1318. small

  1319. seed

  1320. just

  1321. think

  1322. about

  1323. what we

  1324. actually

  1325. wish

  1326. it

  1327. said

  1328. you see

  1329. from the

  1330. perspective

  1331. of the

  1332. world

  1333. what we

  1334. wish

  1335. we would

  1336. say

  1337. is

  1338. the kingdom

  1339. of God

  1340. is like

  1341. Mount

  1342. Everest

  1343. the kingdom

  1344. of God

  1345. is like

  1346. Niagara Falls

  1347. the kingdom

  1348. of God

  1349. is like

  1350. this

  1351. superhero

  1352. the kingdom

  1353. of God

  1354. is like

  1355. this

  1356. invincible

  1357. army

  1358. or this

  1359. invincible

  1360. sports

  1361. team

  1362. we want

  1363. to have

  1364. something

  1365. very

  1366. very

  1367. very

  1368. big

  1369. and

  1370. overwhelming

  1371. but

  1372. what

  1373. does

  1374. it

  1375. say

  1376. the

  1377. kingdom

  1378. of God

  1379. is as if

  1380. man

  1381. should

  1382. scatter

  1383. seed

  1384. on the

  1385. ground

  1386. little

  1387. tiny

  1388. seeds

  1389. scattered

  1390. in the

  1391. ground

  1392. verse

  1393. 27

  1394. he sleeps

  1395. and rises

  1396. night

  1397. and day

  1398. and notice

  1399. there that

  1400. little

  1401. Jewish

  1402. thing

  1403. Jewish

  1404. people

  1405. begin

  1406. their

  1407. day

  1408. at

  1409. sunset

  1410. we

  1411. begin

  1412. our

  1413. days

  1414. in a

  1415. sense

  1416. at

  1417. sunrise

  1418. they

  1419. begin

  1420. their

  1421. days

  1422. at

  1423. sunset

  1424. it's

  1425. sort

  1426. of

  1427. this

  1428. little

  1429. Jewish

  1430. thing

  1431. which

  1432. is

  1433. put

  1434. there

  1435. sort

  1436. of

  1437. a

  1438. very

  1439. interesting

  1440. idea

  1441. by the

  1442. way

  1443. we

  1444. in a

  1445. sense

  1446. view

  1447. that

  1448. our

  1449. day

  1450. begins

  1451. when

  1452. we're

  1453. active

  1454. and

  1455. after

  1456. we've

  1457. accomplished

  1458. all we

  1459. have to

  1460. accomplish

  1461. and we

  1462. sleep

  1463. almost

  1464. as if

  1465. sleep

  1466. is

  1467. sort

  1468. of

  1469. an

  1470. irrelevancy

  1471. and we

  1472. wish

  1473. those

  1474. of us

  1475. who are

  1476. workaholics

  1477. wish we

  1478. could get

  1479. rid of

  1480. it

  1481. but

  1482. for the

  1483. Jewish

  1484. people

  1485. the day

  1486. begins

  1487. with rest

  1488. and out

  1489. of rest

  1490. you act

  1491. anyway

  1492. sorry

  1493. that's a bit

  1494. of an

  1495. aside

  1496. so

  1497. the kingdom

  1498. of God

  1499. is as if

  1500. a man

  1501. should scatter

  1502. seed on

  1503. the ground

  1504. he sleeps

  1505. and rises

  1506. night and

  1507. day

  1508. and the

  1509. seed sprouts

  1510. and grows

  1511. he knows

  1512. not how

  1513. the earth

  1514. produces

  1515. by itself

  1516. first the

  1517. blade

  1518. then the

  1519. ear

  1520. then the

  1521. full grown

  1522. grain in

  1523. the ear

  1524. but when

  1525. the grain

  1526. is ripe

  1527. it once

  1528. he puts

  1529. in the

  1530. sickle

  1531. because the

  1532. harvest

  1533. has come

  1534. it's

  1535. saying that

  1536. you know

  1537. just as in

  1538. a sense

  1539. it seems

  1540. like a

  1541. very small

  1542. thing

  1543. when you

  1544. ask Jesus

  1545. to come

  1546. into your

  1547. life

  1548. to be

  1549. your

  1550. savior

  1551. and your

  1552. lord

  1553. or you

  1554. recognize

  1555. that you've

  1556. asked Jesus

  1557. to be

  1558. your savior

  1559. and lord

  1560. you don't

  1561. really know

  1562. when it

  1563. began

  1564. but you

  1565. know

  1566. that it

  1567. happened

  1568. and

  1569. it seems

  1570. like a

  1571. very very

  1572. small

  1573. thing

  1574. yet that

  1575. small

  1576. apparent

  1577. thing

  1578. continues

  1579. to work

  1580. in your

  1581. life

  1582. and grows

  1583. and grows

  1584. and grows

  1585. and grows

  1586. without you

  1587. realizing how

  1588. it works

  1589. and for us

  1590. who are in

  1591. Christ the end

  1592. will be

  1593. the new

  1594. heaven and

  1595. the new

  1596. earth

  1597. seeing Christ

  1598. as he is

  1599. and being

  1600. like him

  1601. or

  1602. reading the

  1603. bible seems

  1604. like such a

  1605. small thing

  1606. and let me

  1607. guarantee you

  1608. it is very

  1609. easy for an

  1610. apparently clever

  1611. person with

  1612. a high

  1613. IQ to

  1614. make the

  1615. bible look

  1616. completely

  1617. and utterly

  1618. ridiculous

  1619. and it

  1620. seems so

  1621. completely

  1622. powerless

  1623. and weak

  1624. and helpless

  1625. yet the

  1626. means of

  1627. grace are

  1628. such that

  1629. when we

  1630. read the

  1631. bible and

  1632. we hear

  1633. it

  1634. that's what

  1635. he asks us

  1636. to do

  1637. read my

  1638. word

  1639. hear my

  1640. word

  1641. hear my

  1642. word

  1643. listen to

  1644. it

  1645. yes I

  1646. know it's

  1647. small

  1648. yes I

  1649. know it

  1650. doesn't seem

  1651. like it's as

  1652. powerful as

  1653. learning some

  1654. other massive

  1655. spiritual

  1656. technique or

  1657. exercise program

  1658. or having all

  1659. sorts of money

  1660. I know it

  1661. seems very

  1662. weak and

  1663. inconsequential

  1664. but just

  1665. trust me on

  1666. the means of

  1667. grace

  1668. and say that

  1669. prayer

  1670. forgive that

  1671. person

  1672. read the

  1673. bible

  1674. be in part of

  1675. a small group

  1676. a tiny part of

  1677. your whole week

  1678. where you open

  1679. the word with

  1680. other people

  1681. seeking to

  1682. follow Jesus

  1683. yes I know it

  1684. seems small

  1685. and doesn't

  1686. seem very

  1687. powerful like

  1688. it'll accomplish

  1689. much but

  1690. God's the

  1691. one who

  1692. does the

  1693. work of

  1694. building

  1695. it's a

  1696. small means

  1697. of grace

  1698. where God

  1699. does all

  1700. the work

  1701. look at

  1702. verse 30

  1703. and he

  1704. said with

  1705. what can

  1706. we compare

  1707. the kingdom

  1708. of God

  1709. or what

  1710. parable

  1711. shall we

  1712. use for

  1713. it

  1714. it is

  1715. like a

  1716. grain

  1717. of mustard

  1718. seed

  1719. which when

  1720. sown on

  1721. the ground

  1722. is the

  1723. smallest of

  1724. all the

  1725. seeds on

  1726. earth

  1727. yet when

  1728. it's

  1729. sown it

  1730. grows up

  1731. and becomes

  1732. larger than

  1733. all the

  1734. garden plants

  1735. and puts

  1736. out large

  1737. branches

  1738. so that

  1739. the birds

  1740. of the

  1741. air

  1742. can make

  1743. nests

  1744. in its

  1745. shade

  1746. now just

  1747. a pause

  1748. here

  1749. the mustard

  1750. seed image

  1751. is a

  1752. proverbial

  1753. saying

  1754. what's a

  1755. proverbial

  1756. saying

  1757. we're familiar

  1758. with

  1759. proverbial

  1760. sayings

  1761. garbage

  1762. in

  1763. garbage

  1764. out

  1765. now garbage

  1766. in garbage

  1767. out isn't

  1768. literally

  1769. true but we

  1770. know what it

  1771. means right

  1772. with statistics

  1773. and stuff like

  1774. garbage in

  1775. garbage out

  1776. there's a whole

  1777. range of

  1778. proverbial

  1779. sayings

  1780. and in

  1781. Jesus'

  1782. time the

  1783. idea of the

  1784. smallness of

  1785. the mustard

  1786. seed and

  1787. the bigness

  1788. of the result

  1789. was a

  1790. proverbial

  1791. saying

  1792. he wasn't

  1793. making a

  1794. scientific

  1795. saying but

  1796. a proverbial

  1797. saying and

  1798. it's the same

  1799. type of thing

1800. this in fact if you

  1801. could put up the

  1802. point that would be

  1803. great do not

  1804. despise the day of

  1805. small things trust his

  1806. grace and the means

  1807. of grace do not

  1808. despise the day of

  1809. small things trust his

  1810. grace and the means

  1811. of grace that just

  1812. as in a sense a

  1813. small thing like

  1814. hearing the bible

  1815. taking some time

  1816. every day to hear

  1817. the bible and to

  1818. listen to the bible

  1819. and you put it

  1820. away and well it

  1821. hasn't changed my

  1822. emotions it hasn't

  1823. put extra money in

  1824. my bank it hasn't

  1825. added five pounds of

  1826. muscle or taken

  1827. away three pounds of

  1828. fat or added two

  1829. inches to my height

  1830. or taken two inches

  1831. away from my height

  1832. it doesn't seem like

  1833. it's very powerful

  1834. but Jesus is saying

  1835. don't despise the day

  1836. of small things like

  1837. taking me into your

  1838. life seems like a

  1839. very small thing but

  1840. it ends in glory

  1841. and you read my

  1842. word out of obedience

  1843. and listen to it

1844. and the work that I

  1845. do in you that's

  1846. small and unnoticeable

  1847. almost like planting

  1848. a seed in a garden

1849. and the next day it

  1850. looks like nothing's

  1851. happened and the day

  1852. after and the day

  1853. after and the day

  1854. after but eventually

1855. if you wait over time

  1856. and almost imperceptible

  1857. in the change something

  1858. quite remarkable happens

  1859. and this other image

1860. here is the same type

1861. of an image of not

1862. only is it just like

  1863. the plant that grows

  1864. but it's something

  1865. big that comes that's

1866. not only good for you

1867. but good for the world

1868. you want to know a

  1869. simple thing that I've

  1870. just come across

  1871. that when people despise

  1872. the Bible and they

  1873. worry and they make

  1874. claims about how the

  1875. Bible has been

  1876. mistranslated from

  1877. mistranslated

  1878. mistranslated

  1879. here's a thing for you

1880. just to say to them

  1881. do you believe that

  1882. when you read Plato

  1883. or Socrates or

  1884. Aristotle you're really

  1885. reading what they say

  1886. when you read the

  1887. histories of Rome

  1888. do you believe that

  1889. fundamentally they're

  1890. correct and most

  1891. people will say yes

  1892. they do

1893. well how is it that we

  1894. have any of those

  1895. writings

1896. I can tell you how

  1897. we have those writings

  1898. it's because Christian

  1899. monks translated them

  1900. the same trans Christian

  1901. monks that translated

  1902. that not translated

  1903. that copied them

  1904. the same Christian

  1905. monks that copied

  1906. the Bible

1907. so why is it that

  1908. you don't believe

  1909. in that you're

  1910. reading Plato

  1911. correctly but you do

  1912. you believe that

  1913. you're reading Plato

  1914. correctly but the

  1915. same monks

  1916. translate the Bible

  1917. and you don't think

  1918. they translated it

  1919. they copied that

  1920. correctly that like

  1921. that doesn't make

  1922. any sense

1923. and the point I put

1924. it on is this is

1925. that is you see the

  1926. means of grace goes

  1927. and it brings flowers

  1928. it's out of the

  1929. Christian faith that

  1930. science developed

  1931. it's out of the

  1932. Christian faith that

  1933. human rights developed

  1934. it's out of the

  1935. Christian faith that

  1936. slavery began to be

  1937. seen as evil and

  1938. even though in our

  1939. day and age slavery

  1940. continues to make

  1941. comebacks that we

  1942. understand that

  1943. slavery is evil

  1944. it's from Christianity

  1945. that we understand

  1946. that human beings are

1947. made in the image of

1948. God and have a type

  1949. of integrity that is

  1950. a fruit of Christianity

  1951. it's it's out out of

1952. out of the the fruit

  1953. of Christianity that we

  1954. understand that freedom

  1955. is important it's out

  1956. of freedom that you

  1957. have financial growth

  1958. and and markets and

  1959. and and other things

  1960. like that and and

  1961. and it's out of

  1962. Christianity that you

  1963. have a belief that

  1964. there's a concern for

  1965. the poor and for

  1966. hospitals and for

  1967. education and and and

1968. all of that and it's

1969. also in a sense things

  1970. that just the gospel

1971. works in you and the

1972. Bible works in you and

1973. not only does it develop

  1974. into something big in

1975. you that you will only

  1976. see when you appear

1977. before Jesus at the end

1978. of the end of the end

1979. of the end but even

1980. before we reach the end

1981. of the end of the end

  1982. of the end

  1983. the birds can nest

  1984. and there's a

  1985. fruitfulness and a

  1986. blessing upon the whole

1987. culture as we take the

  1988. grace of Christ and

  1989. receive the means of

1990. grace so do not despise

1991. the day of small things

  1992. come to communion read

1993. the word do not despise

1994. the day of small things

  1995. don't live by lies

  1996. don't live by lies

  1997. don't live by hatred

  1998. when you feel hatred

  1999. repent of it it's a

  2000. small thing but it's a

  2001. big thing

2002. don't despise the day of

  2003. small things don't

  2004. despise God's grace in

  2005. small packets it's a

  2006. small packet that comes

2007. into us that we receive

  2008. but it's God's very

  2009. power and grace that

2010. comes into us that we

2011. receive and he does a

2012. hidden work of grace in

  2013. your life and mine

2014. that preparing us for an

  2015. eternal weight of glory

2016. let's bow our heads in

  2017. prayer

  2018. please stand let's pray

2019. father we ask for several

2020. things we ask that you

  2021. build within us a

  2022. consciousness that you

2023. see all things that there

2024. is nothing in our lives

2025. that is hidden from you

2026. and we ask father that as

2027. this truth father we know

2028. that if we just think about

  2029. this truth without the

  2030. gospel without the

  2031. knowledge that the true

2032. light died for us and

  2033. father it's a very hard

2034. thing so make the gospel

2035. more dear to our hearts

2036. and as the gospel becomes

2037. more dear to our hearts

2038. help us father to rejoice

2039. in the fact that you see

2040. all and help us to live

  2041. lives father of

  2042. transparency and honesty

  2043. and integrity help us

2044. father to live not by

  2045. lies or injustice or

2046. hatred not by greed or

  2047. envy not by prejudice

2048. but father we ask that as

2049. the gospel grips us that

2050. we would be more and more

2051. open to the light of your

2052. grace in every area of who

2053. we are and not only us as

  2054. individuals but at a

  2055. societal and cultural and

  2056. communal level as well

2057. that the light of christ will

2058. reveal the darkness and that

2059. we will love the light and

2060. hate the darkness and that we

2061. will learn to walk in your

2062. light knowing that you walk

2063. with us and that you love us

2064. and care for us and we ask

2065. this in the name of jesus your

2066. son and our savior amen

  2067. yes

  2068. thank you

  2069. thank you

  2070. my

  2071. thank you

  2072. thank you
