  1. All right, let's read together from the New Testament.

  2. Matthew 6, verses 9 to 13.

    Matthew 6:9–13

  3. This is the Lord's Prayer.

  4. Jesus said,

  5. Pray then like this,

  6. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

  7. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  8. Give us this day our daily bread,

  9. and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.

  10. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

  11. Amen.

  12. So tonight we are continuing with Jesus,

  13. preaching his sermon on the mount.

  14. He is up a mount preaching to many people.

  15. And recently we've been thinking about what Jesus says on the mountain about prayer.

  16. And Ryan helped us last week think about how prayer,

  17. how our talking to God ought to be a regular practice in our heart and in our mind

  18. where we know that God is the one that we pray to.

  19. In prayer, you know, we find it so difficult.

  20. I think as Christians we find it so difficult to do.

  21. It's just about speaking simply and often to our God who is always ready and able to help us.

  22. So what about the content of our prayer?

  23. That's what Jesus gives us now.

  24. This is probably the most famous prayer in the world.

  25. Likely been said hundreds, maybe thousands of times across the world today.

  26. And Jesus gives us this prayer as a model.

  27. This is the model prayer given to steer our thoughts and help us to speak about God.

  28. Last week we were saying Ryan was helping us see that it's not about the eloquence of our words.

  29. Now we see that at the same time there is a guide which helps us to pray well.

  30. If you have younger children or grandchildren, I think this is quite easy to see.

  31. If your child or grandchild has fallen out with their brother or sister or friend, whoever it is,

  32. if they've trapped their finger in the door, if they've fallen over,

  33. you're probably quite used to them running to you in tears, just bubbling,

  34. getting all the words at 100 miles an hour.

  35. And you probably just about know what's going on.

  36. But you need to take control of the conversation.

  37. Where were you? What did they say? What did you say?

  38. You hurt yourself. You know we can do something about that.

  39. It takes you, the grown-up, to give that conversation a bit of a meaningful shape.

  40. You might understand everything clearly, but you want to help your child calm down

  41. and see things more clearly.

  42. They need you to make sense of it.

  43. And we find that as adults as well.

  44. If you've had an awful day at work, you come home and you tell your flatmate,

  45. your husband, your wife, whoever it is, how awful a day you've had.

  46. And what does it take but for them to say, no, hold on.

  47. Let's slow down a minute and think things through more clearly.

  48. When you look at the Lord's Prayer, this model is there not to repeat word for word only,

  49. but it's there to give your conversation with God a meaningful shape, it's been called.

  50. So, you know, perhaps this week you can say, I feel alone and I feel lost.

  51. Well, Jesus says, God is your Father.

  52. So I can praise Him.

  53. I can adore Him for that.

  54. I don't know how exactly I'm going to cope with what I'm going through this week, this month.

  55. Well, God promises to give you just enough for today, and then He'll do the same tomorrow.

  56. So I should pray for that.

  57. Tonight, maybe you could say, I feel awful about what I've said to this person or how I have acted.

  58. But, well, God says there is forgiveness.

  59. So I can run and ask Him for forgiveness.

  60. We are children who feel so anxious and upset and down and way down.

  61. And some days, you know, some days we hardly know what to pray about.

  62. We hardly know what to say to God.

  63. And we are like children running to their parents.

  64. Because we need someone to give our conversation a meaningful, meaningful shape when we come to Him.

  65. We don't need eloquence and loads of words.

  66. God knows exactly what you need, what we need.

  67. But at the same time, we are helped by this model to see clearly who He is and what we should pray for.

  68. So, just this first line tonight.

  69. Jesus says, pray then like this.

  70. Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.

  71. The focus here in this first line, these first two lines, is on adoring God.

  72. When you come to God in prayer, however often you do it, do you understand who you're coming to?

  73. That's what Jesus wants us to think about.

  74. Let your heart dwell on that reality.

  75. So, let's just look at these three points.

  76. When you pray, you pray to God who is your Father.

  77. He's in heaven.

  78. And so, we should pray, you should pray for His name to be hallowed.

  79. So, when you pray, you pray to your Father.

  80. What does that mean?

  81. It's a word that we use all the time.

  82. Our minister prays to our Father.

  83. When you're at home, you probably pray to your Father.

  84. You probably hear it so often that you don't register when you hear someone pray to the Father.

  85. In John 5, Jesus meets this paralyzed man.

  86. He's been paralyzed for years.

  87. And he's lying on a mat.

  88. And he heals him just by speaking to him.

  89. The man is healed.

  90. He gets up, picks up his mat, and walks.

  91. And it's a kind of funny scene because the Jews, the religious people of that day, aren't so fazed at the fact that this man has been healed.

  92. But what really annoys them is that Jesus has done this on the Sabbath.

  93. And so, they get up.

  94. They chase after Him.

  95. They find Jesus.

  96. They interrogate Him.

  97. They say, you know, how dare you do this on the Sabbath?

  98. How dare you heal this man?

  99. How dare you perform this miracle?

  100. How dare you heal this man?

  101. In the Greek, just two seconds on Greek.

  102. In the Greek, the word is pater, father, pater, where we get paternal from.

  103. And that word was a very normal word used for your biological father, a very everyday word in the sense that you could be in your bedroom and you shout, Dad.

  104. And he'll come to you.

  105. Or maybe he won't.

  106. But it's the same sort of word.

  107. Everyday common language.

  108. How dare he call God father?

  109. That's the thought.

  110. Who does he think he is that he's allowed to say that?

  111. Well, even worse than that, now Jesus, a wee while later in Matthew 5 or Matthew 6, is saying, it's not just me who can call him father, but you can call him father as well.

  112. You can do it as well.

  113. It doesn't work like that.

  114. Don't be cold with your words.

  115. Don't be impersonal thinking you learned something.

  116. No, when you pray, realize that you're coming to your father.

  117. You're coming to your father.

  118. The last two or three weeks, we have heard about German philosophers and German theologians.

  119. And I think last week we might have got a German lesson on some words.

  120. So I'm going to jump in and give you someone else who's a German footballer.

  121. Thomas Muller.

  122. This week, he's been playing for Bayern Munich for around 17, 18 years.

  123. He was in the youth team before that.

  124. So 20-something years.

  125. There were reports that he planned to stay for one more season.

  126. This week we found out that his contract is not getting renewed.

  127. He's not going to stay with them for one more season.

  128. And just like that, his career is over.

  129. He'll probably be gone by the summer.

  130. Whatever he is thinking is probably frustration.

  131. He has dedicated his whole career to this club.

  132. He's trained and trained and trained.

  133. And he's given his life to Bayern Munich.

  134. And with one year to go, they decide to end it.

  135. You know, he's too old.

  136. Maybe he's being paid too much.

  137. But you see what it is.

  138. Even for a legend like Muller, it's completely cost-benefit.

  139. And so he's left thinking.

  140. Either he is left thinking, I did not deserve this.

  141. I've won 32 trophies with this team.

  142. I've trained and trained and trained for these guys.

  143. And now they're letting me go.

  144. Or he is thinking, I'm in trouble because I'm too old and I'm not pulling my weight anymore.

  145. I haven't worked hard enough to keep my place.

  146. When Jesus says, don't heap up empty phrases.

  147. Just call him Father.

  148. He's saying that this relationship that you have as a Christian with God

  149. is not based on you training harder and harder and harder.

  150. Earn in your place with big fancy words.

  151. This is simply about knowing that you are a child of God.

  152. God looks at every believer and he says, son and daughter.

  153. Tim Keller makes the point that if you pray just because you want something,

  154. or you pray just because in the moment it's the right thing to do,

  155. and you don't get what you want, or things go wrong,

  156. you're in the same position as Thomas Muller.

  157. Either you're left thinking, I did not deserve this because I've done my job.

  158. I've done my duty.

  159. I've prayed hard and I've prayed well.

  160. Or you think, I am in trouble and this is what I get for not pulling my weight.

  161. But when you come like a child to a father,

  162. things might not always be how you want them to be.

  163. You might not always get what you want,

  164. but you know that the father, your father is full of fatherly love.

  165. You can't earn that.

  166. You cannot earn that.

  167. Is this a relationship where you train and work hard for your place,

  168. or is this a family, a family relationship?

  169. Here's some clarity for you, Jesus says.

  170. Think about who you're coming to.

  171. When you come to pray, think simply about who you're coming to.

  172. He doesn't want cold, clinical words.

  173. You can't earn anything from him.

  174. No, you are coming to your father.

  175. You're coming to your father who counts you as treasure, Malachi says.

  176. You are coming to your father who will never, ever, ever be ashamed of you, Hebrews says.

  177. Do you believe that?

  178. If you are a Christian, do you believe that?

  179. That's how he sees his people, his children.

  180. However insignificant you feel tonight,

  181. the God who made all of creation looks at you and says,

  182. my treasure, my jewel, my son, my daughter.

  183. Okay, who gets to call him father?

  184. Then Jesus had the right to call him father.

  185. The people didn't understand that in John 5.

  186. The people didn't see that.

  187. But as the son of God by nature, he had that privilege.

  188. How then can anyone else call God father?

  189. Is God father to everyone?

  190. And another question that we could ask,

  191. which gets of the same thing is,

  192. what does it mean to be a Christian?

  193. And one thing we could say is,

  194. this is all about adoption.

  195. It means being adopted.

  196. The Bible makes clear over and over that,

  197. you know, if you read it and you turn page to page,

  198. you'll quickly realize that no one is a child of God by nature.

  199. Actually, Paul in Ephesians calls us the exact opposite.

  200. He says, every single human is a child of wrath.

  201. He says, we are children of wrath.

  202. And humans ever since Genesis 3 have shaken their fists at the Creator

  203. and have said that they want nothing to do with Him.

  204. And, you know, perhaps you don't think of it that way,

  205. but Paul says, without Christ, without faith in Christ,

  206. without belief in Him,

  207. that's exactly what we are doing.

  208. Our lives are defined by the fact that we look at God our Maker

  209. and shake our fists

  210. and say we want nothing to do with Him.

  211. So calling God father

  212. is not a human right.

  213. You know, tonight you might be curious

  214. about Christianity tonight.

  215. You might believe that there is a God

  216. who is your Maker.

  217. That doesn't give you the right to call God your Father.

  218. What gives you the right to call God Father?

  219. Adoption.

  220. Adoption.

  221. Spiritual adoption.

  222. By nature, we are not His children.

  223. By the act of adoption,

  224. God says, you are my child.

  225. You are my child.

  226. In Galatians 4, Paul says this,

  227. but when the fullness of time had come,

  228. God sent forth His sons

  229. so that we might receive adoption as sons.

  230. The only person

  231. who ever had the right to call God Father

  232. came and lived and died

  233. in order to clear your debts.

  234. You know, no longer are you defined

  235. by the fact that you've shaken your fist at God.

  236. That slate is wiped clean.

  237. You can call Him Father

  238. because Christ died for sinful, broken people

  239. like you and like me.

  240. The night before He died,

  241. Jesus was in the garden

  242. in Gethsemane.

  243. And you know what He prays?

  244. He says,

  245. Abba, Father.

  246. Abba, Father.

  247. He just says Father twice

  248. in Aramaic and then in Greek.

  249. He's hours away,

  250. hours away from being mocked by the crowds,

  251. from being abandoned by His friends,

  252. from being hung on the cross.

  253. He cries out.

  254. And now, because He suffered,

  255. you can cry the exact same cry.

  256. Abba, Father.

  257. The Son of God suffered

  258. so that we could be called sons of God.

  259. His cry can be our cry.

  260. Who can call God Father?

  261. Those who are adopted.

  262. How were you adopted?

  263. You received Jesus

  264. and all that He's done.

  265. John 1, verse 12.

    John 1:12

  266. But to all who did receive Him,

  267. who believed in His name,

  268. He gave the right to become children of God.

  269. Will you receive Christ

  270. if you have not?

  271. Will you believe in your heart

  272. that Christ can save you

  273. and call you His brother or sister,

  274. no longer lost,

  275. but a child of God?

  276. Will your prayer simply be,

  277. Father, Abba, Father.

  278. Father.

  279. Some things,

  280. just maybe a couple of things

  281. to think about this week

  282. before we go on to our second point.

  283. We don't always,

  284. when we pray,

  285. we don't always have to call God Father.

  286. We don't have to say that.

  287. You know, we say God, Lord, King.

  288. This is a model prayer.

  289. The point is that in your heart,

  290. in your heart,

  291. you know who you're coming to.

  292. You're coming to a Father who loves you.

  293. You don't need to fix yourself up.

  294. That's one thing.

  295. No, this is about knowing in your heart

  296. that you're a child,

  297. a child of God.

  298. God looks at every believer

  299. and says,

  300. Son and daughter.

  301. He counts you as treasure.

  302. Know in your heart

  303. who you are coming to.

  304. Equally, on the other end of that,

  305. it's probably fair to say

  306. that we don't,

  307. or we're not struck

  308. by what it means

  309. to be called God Father.

  310. I'm not enough.

  311. Would you pray this week

  312. that it would strike you

  313. to know that you're praying

  314. to your Father?

  315. The God who walked in the garden

  316. with Adam and Eve,

  317. the God who came to Moses

  318. in the burning bush,

  319. who gave his people food

  320. and water in the wilderness,

  321. the God who put the stars

  322. in the sky

  323. just by speaking,

  324. just by speaking,

  325. he stoops down

  326. and hears your faint cries

  327. like a father

  328. bending to a child.

  329. He inclines his ear to you.

  330. Would you come,

  331. would you fix your heart

  332. on that this week

  333. as you pray?

  334. Okay, secondly,

  335. he's our Father,

  336. and he is in heaven,

  337. it says.

  338. He's in heaven.

  339. And again,

  340. that means a lot.

  341. He is our Father

  342. in the deepest,

  343. nearest sense.

  344. At the same time,

  345. he is eternal,

  346. he is infinite,

  347. he is unchanging.

  348. Moses,

  349. in Exodus 33,

  350. Moses is up the mountain

  351. and he asks God

  352. if he can see him.

  353. He says,

  354. can I see your glory?

  355. Can I see something

  356. tangible here?

  357. And God says,

  358. never,

  359. never,

  360. you cannot see me

  361. and live.

  362. God is too glorious,

  363. too mighty,

  364. too wholly different from us

  365. that we could never

  366. handle seeing him.

  367. As our Father,

  368. he is so near,

  369. so close to us,

  370. and yet,

  371. as creator,

  372. as maker,

  373. as God,

  374. he is too powerful,

  375. too vast

  376. for us to understand.

  377. You know,

  378. we're so finite

  379. and we are so weak

  380. as creatures.

  381. That we couldn't

  382. handle knowing

  383. what God is like

  384. in himself.

  385. And so,

  386. when we say that God

  387. is in heaven,

  388. we're not talking,

  389. we're not talking about

  390. God being in a different

  391. place.

  392. We're talking about God

  393. existing on a completely

  394. different level to us.

  395. God is always ready

  396. to hear our faint,

  397. weak cries,

  398. and at the same time,

  399. he is completely

  400. separate from us.

  401. God is so far above us

  402. that we could never

  403. know him

  404. if we tried to reach up.

  405. Just one takeaway.

  406. That means that God

  407. is free from every

  408. single struggle

  409. and weakness

  410. and temptation

  411. that we are so prone

  412. to as finite

  413. creatures.

  414. I know,

  415. you know,

  416. when you come to a verse

  417. like this,

  418. it speaks about God

  419. being our Father.

  420. I know that

  421. fatherhood doesn't

  422. fill us all

  423. with the same amount

  424. of joy

  425. or fondness.

  426. Some of us

  427. here,

  428. you know,

  429. some of us here

  430. maybe

  431. have gone our whole

  432. lives with absent

  433. fathers.

  434. We've gone most of

  435. our lives with our

  436. dads who have left

  437. our homes

  438. or distanced

  439. themselves from us

  440. or perhaps we have

  441. grown up with a

  442. father in the house

  443. but who has let us

  444. down in so many ways.

  445. You know,

  446. they lack interest

  447. in our interests.

  448. They don't support

  449. us emotionally.

  450. They have seriously

  451. high expectations

  452. that we can never

  453. meet.

  454. They are critical

  455. of every single

  456. thing that you do.

  457. The idea of a father

  458. who does not fill

  459. us all,

  460. you know,

  461. with joy

  462. fills us with

  463. disappointment

  464. or even resentment

  465. and all that we

  466. want to say to

  467. that is that

  468. for every weakness,

  469. for every way

  470. that your dad

  471. has failed you,

  472. for every memory

  473. you have of your

  474. dad neglecting

  475. your good,

  476. that loss

  477. and disappointment

  478. is healed

  479. in having God

  480. the creator

  481. as your father.

  482. what a promise

  483. I think that is.

  484. You know,

  485. we might feel grief

  486. and disappointment

  487. for a long time.

  488. We might never

  489. lose that experience.

  490. Here's what one

  491. Christian writer

  492. tells us to do.

  493. Dwell on the fact

  494. that there is no

  495. better father,

  496. no parent

  497. more deeply committed

  498. to his children's

  499. welfare

  500. than God

  501. the creator.

  502. You know,

  503. if your picture

  504. of fatherhood

  505. is influenced

  506. by your own

  507. experience,

  508. would you think

  509. about that?

  510. The God of heaven

  511. is completely,

  512. he is completely

  513. opposed

  514. to every single

  515. hurtful act

  516. or word

  517. that you've

  518. experienced.

  519. he loves you

  520. so deeply

  521. and he is

  522. completely

  523. committed

  524. to your good.

  525. Maybe,

  526. maybe on the

  527. other end

  528. of that,

  529. and I hope

  530. I don't get

  531. in trouble

  532. for saying

  533. this,

  534. but maybe

  535. on the other

  536. end of that,

  537. you've had

  538. a great

  539. father.

  540. I don't

  541. want to get

  542. in trouble

  543. for saying

  544. that your

  545. dad's not

  546. perfect either.

  547. if you think

  548. about your

  549. dad

  550. and

  551. who has

  552. loved you

  553. well,

  554. who has

  555. disciplined

  556. you fairly,

  557. who has

  558. taught you,

  559. who gives

  560. you good

  561. things in

  562. life,

  563. who really

  564. does care

  565. for you,

  566. thank God

  567. for that

  568. and know,

  569. know that

  570. when you look

  571. at your dad

  572. and see those

  573. good things,

  574. know that

  575. those good

  576. things are

  577. fully realized

  578. in God

  579. the Father.

  580. He loves

  581. you so much,

  582. he hears

  583. every cry,

  584. he knows

  585. every need,

  586. he knows

  587. how to

  588. correct you

  589. in the

  590. most loving

  591. way.

  592. He gets

  593. it right

  594. every single

  595. time,

  596. even more

  597. than your

  598. father down

  599. here.

  600. Would you

  601. take joy

  602. knowing that

  603. the God

  604. of heaven

  605. is so high

  606. above us

  607. in every

  608. single way,

  609. stoops down,

  610. calls us

  611. children,

  612. and loves

  613. us completely.

  614. Last point,

  615. really quickly,

  616. Jesus tells

  617. us to pray

  618. that God's

  619. name would

  620. be hallowed.

  621. Thomas Watson,

  622. he was a

  623. 17th century

  624. preacher,

  625. minister,

  626. he gave

  627. about 20

  628. ways in

  629. which we

  630. can hallow

  631. God's name,

  632. so this was

  633. almost a

  634. 23 point

  635. sermon.

  636. one simple

  637. way,

  638. one simple

  639. way out

  640. of many

  641. that you

  642. can hallow

  643. God's name

  644. or make

  645. holy his

  646. name,

  647. would be

  648. to set

  649. God high

  650. in your

  651. thoughts

  652. and really

  653. deeply

  654. trust him.

  655. We hallow

  656. God's name,

  657. we lift him

  658. high in our

  659. thoughts

  660. by really

  661. believing in

  662. our hearts

  663. that God

  664. is infinitely

  665. good.

  666. We honor

  667. God when

  668. we dwell

  669. on the

  670. fact that

  671. he is not

  672. far off,

  673. he is not

  674. uninterested,

  675. he doesn't

  676. drop us as

  677. soon as we

  678. mess up.

  679. And now

  680. this week,

  681. this week

  682. or month

  683. might be an

  684. especially hard

  685. time to think

  686. about that.

  687. You know,

  688. God is

  689. infinitely good.

  690. I don't

  691. see that

  692. right now.

  693. Earlier

  694. on this

  695. week,

  696. I saw

  697. this short

  698. video,

  699. it was

  700. just of

  701. an older

  702. man talking

  703. about

  704. Christianity

  705. and not

  706. a famous

  707. guy,

  708. I don't

  709. know who

  710. he is,

  711. he just

  712. came up

  713. on my

  714. phone,

  715. but he's

  716. obviously

  717. been going

  718. to church

  719. for many

  720. years,

  721. and I

  722. don't know

  723. his whole

  724. experience,

  725. but I

  726. just want

  727. to read

  728. a few

  729. words,

  730. this is

  731. what he

  732. said,

  733. no health

  734. prayers

  735. answered,

  736. no career

  737. prayers

  738. answered,

  739. no spousal

  740. prayers

  741. answered,

  742. not a

  743. single

  744. prayer

  745. answered

  746. in 60

  747. years.

  748. Is this

  749. what following

  750. Jesus is

  751. all about?

  752. What a

  753. mistake.

  754. That's what

  755. he says,

  756. what a

  757. mistake.

  758. When you

  759. receive

  760. Christ

  761. and

  762. believe in

  763. him,

  764. and you

  765. become an

  766. adopted

  767. child of

  768. God,

  769. you don't

  770. get everything

  771. you want.

  772. Don't be

  773. like Thomas

  774. Muller who

  775. trains and

  776. trains and

  777. trains and

  778. trains and

  779. gets dropped

  780. at the

  781. last season.

  782. Your life

  783. is not

  784. founded on

  785. you earning

  786. a reward

  787. for doing

  788. the right

  789. things and

  790. praying really

  791. hard.

  792. It's founded

  793. on God

  794. being your

  795. father,

  796. Christ being

  797. your brother,

  798. the one who

  799. died for you.

  800. That will

  801. never change

  802. and it's a

  803. test of

  804. faith.

  805. It really

  806. is a test

  807. of faith

  808. to pray

  809. that God's

  810. name would

  811. be hallowed.

  812. We pray

  813. that we

  814. and those

  815. around us

  816. would learn

  817. to lift

  818. him high

  819. in our

  820. hearts

  821. and trust

  822. him even

  823. though the

  824. world comes

  825. crashing down

  826. around us.

  827. This theme

  828. will come up

  829. again in the

  830. Lord's Prayer

  831. later on,

  832. so we won't

  833. say much

  834. more,

  835. but we can

  836. close with

  837. this.

  838. Our greatest

  839. need is to

  840. have more

  841. of God

  842. and to

  843. know more

  844. and more

  845. that he is

  846. our father.

  847. If right

  848. now,

  849. if tonight,

  850. if God

  851. gave you

  852. everything that

  853. you wanted,

  854. would you

  855. ever run

  856. to God

  857. your father

  858. again?

  859. Would you

  860. ever cry

  861. father?

  862. The valley

  863. in Psalm

  864. 23,

  865. it's a place

  866. of despair

  867. isn't it?

  868. It's a place

  869. of job

  870. insecurity

  871. and poor

  872. health.

  873. It's a place

  874. of broken

  875. relationships.

  876. God takes

  877. his children

  878. through the

  879. valley for

  880. us to learn

  881. that all we

  882. have, all

  883. we have is

  884. our father

  885. and eventually

  886. we will be

  887. with him.

  888. Set him high

  889. in your

  890. heart.

  891. Trust him

  892. for your

  893. good.

  894. You can't

  895. earn anything

  896. but you

  897. your life

  898. is the

  899. way it

  900. is.

  901. And you

  902. will be

  903. kept safe

  904. even in

  905. trouble

  906. because Christ

  907. who is your

  908. brother has

  909. died for you

  910. and risen

  911. again.

  912. And because

  913. the God of

  914. heaven who is

  915. your father

  916. hears your

  917. cries,

  918. stoops down

  919. and who loves

  920. his treasure.

  921. Will you cry

  922. Abba Father?

  923. Will that be

  924. enough for you?

  925. Let's pray.

  926. Father,

  927. we acknowledge

  928. tonight who

  929. we are coming

  930. before.

  931. We thank you

  932. that you're a

  933. father who

  934. stoops down,

  935. who hears our

  936. cries.

  937. and we

  938. think of

  939. ourselves and

  940. our friends

  941. who are being

  942. brought through

  943. valleys.

  944. We pray

  945. that they

  946. would remember

  947. that the

  948. God of

  949. heaven who

  950. is their

  951. father is

  952. free from

  953. all weakness

  954. and he is

  955. infinitely good.

  956. And so

  957. when we

  958. can only ask

  959. why things

  960. are the way

  961. that they

  962. are in

  963. our lives

  964. in this

  965. world,

  966. Lord,

  967. would our

  968. cry,

  969. would our

  970. prayer be

  971. Abba,

  972. Father.

  973. Make that

  974. our prayer

  975. this week,

  976. we ask for

  977. Jesus'

  978. sake.

  979. Amen.
