  1. All right, all right. Good morning, good morning. Okay, in a second, Zoe's gonna come up and read God's Word to us.

  2. ! I hope you have got yourself some Bibles. There's some in the front. Before we read God's Word, here's a

  3. well, here's a small reminder. Hey, this is God's Word. This is what gives life. This is where we encounter God. This is

  4. the Word of the true and living God. And as Zoe reads, let us open our hearts to receive what he's telling us, what he's

  5. calling us today into. So Zoe, would you like to come and read God's Word to us?

  6. Oh. Today we'll be reading from 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 13 to 21. You can follow along in your own Bible. If you're

    1 Peter 1:13–21

  7. following along with the church Bible, this is on page 953. Let's read.

  8. Therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that

  9. will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to

  10. the passions of your former ignorance. But as he who called you is holy, you also will be holy in all

  11. your conduct. Since it is written, you shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you call on him as father

  12. who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves for fear throughout the time of

  13. your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers,

  14. not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of

  15. the lamb, without blemish or spots. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was made

  16. manifest in the last times for the sake of you, who through him are believers in God, who raised him

  17. from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. This is the Word of God.

  18. Let us pray, and then we can dive into God's Word. Father, we need you. We need you this morning. God, as we

  19. look at your Word, through your Spirit, would you open up these words into our hearts. May my few words and

  20. opinions serve to draw your people to you, God. And may any word that comes out from my lips that's not true,

  21. that's not helpful, fall on deaf ears, but God, may your Word be rooted deep in our hearts so that we

  22. can love you, so that we would behold who you are and your beauty and your greatness of Jesus Christ.

  23. So, God, would you come and do that work this morning, not for our glory, but for your glory.

  24. Father, we praise you and thank you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

  25. Amen. So, we're doing a standalone series. So, last week, Oscar did one standalone, today one.

  26. We'll have a retreat next Sunday, and then we'll be diving into the Advent series from December.

  27. So, today we're looking at this passage, 1 Peter. So, let me start off with this. I'm sure most of you

  28. know that the king of UK is King Charles III. He became king around 2022. Now, let us imagine. Let's

  29. imagine this. Imagine is the day of ordination, coronation, whatever. And coronation, right? Yeah,

  30. yeah, yeah. Coronation. And it's the celebration. As people are flocking in, you see King Charles

  31. in all his gold and jewels, dressed up. And there's, as the crown is put on his throne, on his head,

  32. there's a massive celebration across the country. And then, as the king sits on his throne,

  33. people shout and cheer for their king is there. Now, imagine this. The next day, King Charles is seen

  34. in LKF having a drink of a beer with his friends. And he's dead drunk, and his friends has to carry

  35. him home. And the next day, he's seen on the MTR going to work. Even though he has so much money,

  36. he's like, I still need a little bit more. And he's seen going to work. And on the way, he ends up

  37. fighting with someone for a coin that's on the floor. And then he bumps into another person for a cup of

  38. coffee and another brawl starts there. Now, it seems that the whole coronation and the glory and the

  39. gold and jewels did not even happen at all. It seems that his life, him being a king, him being

  40. declared a king, and yet his life seems to be completely unchanged. I mean, his wealth is secured

  41. as a king, and yet he's fighting with people for pennies. It seems that his status has changed.

  42. Who he is has completely changed. And yet his life seems to be unchanged at all. Now, obviously,

  43. that's just an imagination. We're just trying to imagine this. But in reality, that's a lot of how

  44. we Christians tend to live. Very unaware of what God has done, is doing, is doing in Christ,

  45. and who we are in light of that, and live a life that seems to be very unaffected or have

  46. parts of our life that are unaffected by who God is and what he has done. So what today's

  47. passage is seeking to do is, is seeking to call the readers, us, who are Christians that have

  48. been spread around the provinces, to live a life that is different. So if you have a passage,

  49. let's dive straight into it. Let's look at the first verse, verse 13, right? It starts with this.

  50. It starts with, therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, set your hope

  51. fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Christ Jesus. Now, what I want us

  52. to do for a few seconds is look at the word, therefore. You see, because every time we see the

  53. word, therefore, in the Bible, we need to question what it is, therefore. In other words, you get it.

  54. Okay, so, and the truth is, there's always a reason why therefore is therefore. So, and here's the thing.

  55. Every time there's a word, therefore, it all, there's something that comes before it. It gives us

  56. the truth and the reality of who God is, and then it calls us into an action. In other words,

  57. which means that every Christian living, everything that we do and don't, every obedience, every

  58. sacrifice that we do always begins with a therefore. Without a therefore in our lives, every Christian

  59. living is just moralistic rules and actions which is put on hopeless sinners.

  60. that are either crushed or are driven into this useless and presumptuous efforts.

  61. We need, therefore, in our Christian life to give us this truth that drives us into a Christian

  62. living. So, what does this, therefore, tell us? So, before verse 13, if you look at their

  63. beautiful 12 verses in 1 Peter, that tells us about this living hope in Christ Jesus, of how we are

  64. in light of our future is secure, it's this great truth of what God has done in Christ Jesus and who

  65. we are in light of that. And now, at the end of that, Peter says, therefore, in light of all of that

  66. truth, all of what Christ has done, therefore, preparing your minds for action. In other words,

  67. it's the equivalent of us saying, rolling up your sleeves, get ready for action, being sober-minded,

  68. set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Christ Jesus. In other

  69. words, live a life that is actively putting our hope in this grace when Jesus will return one day, when all

  70. sins or suffering will be taken away, and when everything will be put right. Now, the question for us this

  71. morning is this, so what does it look like to live a life with such a hope? What does it look like

  72. to live with one eye to the future when Jesus will return? And from verse 14, Peter is going to

  73. unravel that question as we go along. So, if you have your Bible, this is our first thought of the day.

  74. So, first thought is, therefore, pursue holiness. We'll be looking at verses 14 to 16. So, verse 14 to 16,

  75. it says,

  76. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who

  77. called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, your God, you shall be

  78. holy, for I am holy. Now, Peter is very clear here. His call is, be holy in all your conduct.

  79. And he gives a reason for that here, right? He says, because your God is holy, and since He has

  80. called you, you to be holy. Now, we need to ask the question, what does holy mean? And I'm sure you

  81. have heard the phrase, holier than thou, which is used to describe people that are something more pure

  82. and more religiously superior than others. And we tend to think of the word holy as to mean something

  83. that is pure and morally perfect or purity. But the fact is, the word holy actually means separate.

  84. When scripture says that God is holy, it is telling us that God is separate from everyone

  85. and everything else. He alone is the creator God. One commentator puts it like this. He says,

  86. when we say God is holy, we're saying He is altogether and wholly other. In both His character and His deeds,

  87. He is transcendently different from and greater than all His creatures in every conceivable respect.

  88. Therefore, holiness is not solely a reference to moral and ethical purity. It also entails with it

  89. a transcendent and unparalleled beauty. You see, sometimes we make the mistake of thinking God is like

  90. one of us. He isn't. He's on a whole different level. He is transcendent. He's conceivably,

  91. unconsumably, way greater than we can ever imagine and even try to imagine. He is holy.

  92. Now, when Peter calls us to be holy here in this passage, is he calling us to be transcendent and

  93. have unparalleled beauty and be on a whole different level? Well, no, not really. And verse 14 and 15

  94. gives us a hint here. Verse 14 says,

  95. Do not be conformed to your passions of your former ignorance, but be holy in all your conduct.

  96. Now, Peter says, don't be conformed here. Now, he's speaking here to Christians. When he talks about

  97. the passions of your former ignorance, he's talking about the life that they had before knowing Christ.

  98. Peter is calling them to not go back into that previous life and the life that they had before

  99. knowing him. Or he's calling them to be holy or to separate yourself from that life that used to be

  100. there. Now, it's almost like this. Imagine an orphan who is adopted, who's given three meals a day.

  101. He's a son. And yet, at the end of the day, he goes out to steal food because he's scared that he's not

  102. going to get food. But the fact that he's adopted and he's a son means that he no longer has to go back

  103. into that way of life. He can separate himself from stealing food because he's the son of the house.

  104. He's adopted. You see, one of the ways we Christians are described as are orphans that have been adopted

  105. as sons and daughters. I mean, look how Peter addresses the readers in verse 14. He calls them

  106. obedient children. And being conformed to the passions of your former ignorance is like us going

  107. out to steal food again when God has provided everything. Now, it is very easy to spot when we do

  108. that. It's very easy to spot when we start conforming ourselves into our former ignorance because,

  109. according to this, the opposite of being conformed here, according to Peter, is to be holy.

  110. So, in other words, we have to ask ourselves a few questions then. Does our life look different

  111. from the way it used to be? Maybe a few habits have changed. Maybe there are still parts of our lives

  112. that are still untouched. But it's not just comparison with our former life, is it? It's

  113. comparison with the world, the people around that has not known Christ yet. If we were to

  114. take our thoughts and our actions and have it scripted and recorded, would it look different

  115. from the people around us? The things that we do in our personal, when we are alone, in our free

  116. times, would it look different? Do the way we handle success and joy look different? Do the way we

  117. steward suffering and loss look different? Or does the thing that give us joy and satisfaction in life

  118. look different from the people around us? You see, in a very similar way that the adopted orphan does not

  119. need to steal in light of who He is. We, too, are called to be holy, to separate our lives from our

  120. previous life in light of what God has done, is doing, and will do. And to do that in all parts of our

  121. lives, in our jobs, in our desires, in our life pursuits, in our education, in our relationships, in our

  122. singleness, to look different from that of other people around us.

  123. Well, Peter does not just stop there, does he? Because he tries to push this. He really challenges

  124. the reader in this section. Because all of these things are not passive. It's not about, okay, I believe

  125. this and I'm going to be this. It's all about Peter saying, be holy. Be actively thinking about this.

  126. Be actively pursuing this. Be actively holy where God has placed you.

  127. Now, that might look very different for each one of us in our lives. And it might look very painful

  128. because we are sinners, longing, still holding on to things like Kevin said, holding on to things

  129. that we hold there while Christ is calling us. So you might want to ask yourself, what does it look

  130. like for you to pursue holiness in where God has placed you? And here Peter goes on to say,

  131. which leads us to our second thought today, therefore pursue holiness with fear. So let's look at verse 17.

  132. Peter says, and if you call him as father who judges impartially according to each one's deed,

  133. conduct yourself with fear throughout the time of your exile. Now, Peter again calls us into something.

  134. And he says to conduct yourself with fear. Now, we have to ask ourselves again, what does fear mean?

  135. Now, we understand it to mean something very terrible, something scary. We don't want our kids

  136. to fear us because it might mean we have done something terrible and they're scared of us.

  137. But this one is a very different kind of fear. It is a reverential awe of the glory and power of God.

  138. Now, imagine King Charles is in the hall here, right at Viva. And I'm pretty sure a lot of you are stronger

  139. than him and taking him on a fight. I mean, he's 77 years old. That sounds sad. But as sad as in,

  140. we don't want to fight him. But you would still show him respect. You'd still show him some kind of fear

  141. because of his authority and who he is, isn't he? And that he is a king. Now, when we talk about God,

  142. he is infinitely higher than any authorities and anything in all creation and in time. He is

  143. unconceivably higher than all glory, power, might, and wisdom, anything and anywhere, everything in all

  144. creation. In other words, fear of God is having this reverent awe, a respect for all that who he is,

  145. is being in awe of all his power, knowing that he's wholly transcendent and sitting all under

  146. that awesomeness of who he is. By the same time, fear of God also means it's to acknowledge

  147. all that who he is. Imagine King Charles was here and you stand up and you shout at him.

  148. What that says is you're not just only disrespecting him and not fearing, but you're also saying

  149. with your actions that I don't acknowledge that you're a king and you have no authority over me.

  150. In other words, to have fear of God is not just being in awe of who he is, but it's also to

  151. acknowledge that he is God. Is to live in fear of God means that you're saying that he is king

  152. and that he is God and that we are not and in all aspects of our life. You know the very famous verse,

  153. the beginning of wisdom, is there? Fear of God. It starts with that. It's not just being in awe,

  154. it's actually submitting ourselves and acknowledging that he is God, that he is king and I'm not.

  155. In my pursuits, in my careers, in my singleness and dating life, he is God, not me. He has the final say,

  156. not me, even when I don't like what God's word says, that he is king and God.

  157. So what Peter is calling here, the readers, is to pursue holiness in all their conducts,

  158. in all parts of their lives, and to do that with this reverent fear.

  159. This amazing, awesome, in light of who awesome God is.

  160. You see, in our Christian journey, we sometimes tend to fall towards being very passive and apathetic,

  161. without being without passions and seriousness.

  162. But this is very serious to what Peter is calling us.

  163. You see, the way we deal with our sin,

  164. our lifestyles, our pursuit of God,

  165. it becomes very stagnant, passive, and passionless.

  166. Peter here is calling us

  167. to pursue holiness

  168. with reverent fear.

  169. This passage is challenging.

  170. It is very,

  171. it is calling us

  172. into something.

  173. But then, at the same time,

  174. Peter also reminds us

  175. of another truth here.

  176. Look at verse 17.

  177. He says,

  178. conduct yourself with fear

  179. throughout your time

  180. of your exile.

  181. And he's telling us

  182. that we are in exile.

  183. He's reminding us

  184. of the exile

  185. that began all the way

  186. in the beginning of time

  187. in Genesis,

  188. when,

  189. because of our sin,

  190. we could no longer be

  191. in our real home,

  192. which is with God.

  193. There was that time

  194. in that fall

  195. where our relationship

  196. with God was broken,

  197. and we were separated

  198. from the source of life

  199. and all things good,

  200. and we were broken,

  201. our relationships were broken,

  202. our life were broken,

  203. and the Word of God says

  204. we were dead in our sins.

  205. We were not struggling

  206. with sins,

  207. we were dead in our sins.

  208. And the great news

  209. is that while we were

  210. still dead sinners,

  211. Christ died for us,

  212. taking our sins upon Himself,

  213. paying the price

  214. of our transgressions.

  215. He died and rose again,

  216. ascended into heaven,

  217. and with the sure promise

  218. that He will come again,

  219. return,

  220. and everything that we lost

  221. in Genesis

  222. in the beginning

  223. will be restored.

  224. Our true home,

  225. our relationship,

  226. our brokenness,

  227. our true home with God

  228. will be restored.

  229. But right now,

  230. at present time,

  231. we are journeying

  232. through time

  233. as sojourners,

  234. still in exiles,

  235. to that time

  236. when Christ will return.

  237. It's verse 13, right?

  238. To put our hope fully,

  239. set our hope fully,

  240. when one day

  241. this grace will be revealed

  242. in Christ Jesus.

  243. So what Peter is saying here

  244. is this,

  245. is to pursue holiness,

  246. to set yourself life apart

  247. from other people,

  248. to have our life

  249. aligned with who God is

  250. and what He has done,

  251. at the same time

  252. doing this

  253. with this reverent awe

  254. of who God is,

  255. acknowledging who He is,

  256. and having Him

  257. as God and King

  258. of our life,

  259. but at the same time

  260. knowing that

  261. we are not there yet,

  262. that we are still exiles,

  263. we are still on our journey

  264. to our real home

  265. and it's not here.

  266. Churches,

  267. let us think about that.

  268. Do we live our lives,

  269. pursue holiness,

  270. deal with sin

  271. with that kind of attitude?

  272. When there are conflicts

  273. within your friend circles,

  274. and I know conflicts

  275. are difficult and complicated,

  276. but do we still pursue

  277. resolution with fear

  278. of who God is

  279. and in awe

  280. of how He

  281. has forgiven us?

  282. How about

  283. ongoing sins

  284. in our lives?

  285. Have we fallen

  286. into a pattern

  287. and have started

  288. taking things

  289. very lightly

  290. and not really

  291. dealing with our sins?

  292. How about

  293. the plans

  294. and pursuit

  295. of our lives

  296. and careers

  297. of our lives?

  298. Do we look at

  299. our jobs

  300. and career pursuits

  301. and education

  302. as exiles

  303. or do we invest

  304. everything

  305. like our time

  306. and resources

  307. here

  308. rather than

  309. keeping one eye

  310. on our real home

  311. and investing there

  312. with the way

  313. we spend our time

  314. and energy?

  315. What's our heart

  316. attitude

  317. towards life?

  318. What's our heart

  319. attitude

  320. in our pursuit

  321. of holiness?

  322. Now,

  323. it feels like

  324. it's all heavy.

  325. The passage

  326. is really

  327. challenging us

  328. and calling us

  329. to pursue holiness.

  330. To think of our life

  331. is challenging

  332. parts of our lives

  333. that we have

  334. kind of

  335. let the ball drop.

  336. So,

  337. we begin with

  338. the word

  339. therefore.

  340. Now,

  341. I want us

  342. to remember that

  343. because all of this,

  344. the pursuit

  345. of holiness

  346. with fear,

  347. it begins

  348. with

  349. therefore.

  350. It begins

  351. with this

  352. incredible truth

  353. of who God is

  354. and what He has done.

  355. Now,

  356. but amazing thing

  357. what Peter does

  358. at the end here

  359. is Peter actually

  360. takes a U-turn

  361. and he goes back

  362. to therefore

  363. and we're going to

  364. look at verses

  365. 18 to 21

  366. because Peter again

  367. steps back

  368. and he starts

  369. reminding us

  370. of the great truths

  371. of the good news

  372. of Jesus Christ

  373. which leads us

  374. to our last thought

  375. today.

  376. Therefore,

  377. pursue holiness

  378. with fear

  379. knowing that.

  380. Look at verses

  381. 18 to 21

  382. because it seems

  383. that the Christian

  384. living does not

  385. just start

  386. with a therefore.

  387. It also ends

  388. with a knowing

  389. that, right?

  390. God is good

  391. therefore live

  392. a life of holiness

  393. knowing that

  394. another great truths

  395. of God.

  396. It just,

  397. this tells us

  398. that the Christian

  399. living is surrounded

  400. and centered

  401. around God

  402. and His mighty works

  403. and who He is.

  404. So what does Peter

  405. want us to know

  406. here at the end?

  407. Well, there are two things

  408. here.

  409. Look at verse 18

  410. and 19.

  411. Verse 18,

  412. In other words,

  413. Peter here is saying

  414. that you have been

  415. bought out of your

  416. former life.

  417. Remember verse 14

  418. when Peter says,

  419. don't be conformed

  420. to your former ignorance?

  421. Here,

  422. Peter is saying

  423. that because,

  424. don't do that,

  425. because you have been

  426. bought out of it

  427. by the blood of Christ.

  428. Church,

  429. do you see what

  430. Peter is saying here?

  431. The reason Peter

  432. is giving us

  433. not to go back

  434. into your life

  435. but to pursue holiness

  436. is not because

  437. so that being holy

  438. is going to save you

  439. but he's saying

  440. that because

  441. you have been saved,

  442. because you have been

  443. bought out of it

  444. by the precious blood

  445. of Christ,

  446. don't go back there.

  447. Pursue holiness.

  448. You know,

  449. there's a story

  450. of a well-known pastor,

  451. Paul Washer.

  452. I don't know

  453. how many of you know.

  454. Very serious guy.

  455. Yeah,

  456. you know.

  457. He's very serious.

  458. He talks about a story

  459. where one person

  460. asked him,

  461. how is it

  462. that one soul

  463. is able to save

  464. billions and trillions

  465. of souls

  466. in past,

  467. present,

  468. and future?

  469. That doesn't seem

  470. to add up,

  471. you know.

  472. It's like paying

  473. one dollar

  474. and getting

  475. billions and trillions

  476. of dollars in hand.

  477. It doesn't make sense.

  478. How can one soul

  479. of Jesus Christ

  480. save billions

  481. and trillions

  482. of souls

  483. across history?

  484. And this was his answer.

  485. I'm paraphrasing,

  486. by the way.

  487. And he says this,

  488. imagine a scale.

  489. Imagine a scale

  490. and on one side

  491. you put everything

  492. of all creation,

  493. you put all the money,

  494. all the gold,

  495. you put all the mountains

  496. and planets

  497. and animals

  498. and humans

  499. and music

  500. and poetry

  501. and wisdom

  502. and knowledge,

  503. everything there is,

  504. the whole universe

  505. on one side of scale

  506. and you put

  507. one other side,

  508. you put Jesus

  509. and you weigh it

  510. and Jesus

  511. will still be

  512. infinitely more precious

  513. and more worthy

  514. and more valuable

  515. than all of this creation

  516. put together

  517. at the end of it all

  518. because he is

  519. the son of God.

  520. He is the creator,

  521. king of all kings

  522. and he is the one

  523. where everything

  524. and everything

  525. that we see

  526. was where

  527. through him

  528. and for him

  529. created.

  530. And church,

  531. you

  532. were ransomed

  533. by his

  534. precious blood.

  535. Now I can go on

  536. and give an example

  537. of how

  538. a man gives

  539. a billion dollars

  540. and saves you

  541. out of jail

  542. but nothing

  543. in all creation

  544. comes to close

  545. to Christ

  546. pouring out

  547. his precious blood

  548. to save

  549. sinners

  550. like us,

  551. to save

  552. sinners like me.

  553. And Peter,

  554. the reason

  555. he gives us

  556. to pursue holiness

  557. is that you

  558. have been ransomed

  559. not by gold,

  560. not by silver,

  561. not by anything

  562. most precious

  563. and diamonds

  564. and jewels

  565. but by the most

  566. precious thing

  567. in all creation

  568. that is

  569. the precious blood

  570. of Christ Jesus.

  571. And the second

  572. Peter wants us

  573. to know

  574. is this,

  575. verse 20,

  576. he,

  577. Christ Jesus,

  578. was foreknown

  579. before the foundation

  580. of the world

  581. but was made

  582. manifest in last times

  583. for the sake of you

  584. who through him

  585. are believers

  586. in God

  587. who raised him

  588. from the dead

  589. and gave him glory

  590. so that your faith

  591. and hope

  592. are in God.

  593. In other words,

  594. because of what

  595. God did in Christ,

  596. his death,

  597. resurrection,

  598. and glory,

  599. now that your faith

  600. and hope

  601. is in God.

  602. That means

  603. that your faith

  604. and hope

  605. is a living hope.

  606. Because of what

  607. Jesus has done,

  608. your faith

  609. and hope

  610. is fully secured.

  611. What Peter

  612. is saying here

  613. is at the end

  614. of this is,

  615. look,

  616. that you have been

  617. ransomed

  618. by the precious

  619. blood of Christ

  620. and because of

  621. God's work

  622. in Christ Jesus,

  623. your faith

  624. and hope

  625. is not in

  626. material things

  627. and works

  628. and salvation

  629. and whatever

  630. there is.

  631. Look at the last sentence,

  632. your faith

  633. and hope

  634. is in God

  635. and is secured

  636. and is guaranteed

  637. in Him.

  638. Isn't that wonderful?

  639. You know,

  640. first,

  641. in verse 14,

  642. he tells us,

  643. hey,

  644. it's God

  645. who judges,

  646. live with fear.

  647. One day he will judge,

  648. but at the end

  649. he tells us,

  650. but because your faith

  651. is in Christ Jesus,

  652. your faith

  653. and hope

  654. is completely

  655. secured.

  656. Lord.

  657. So,

  658. if you are here

  659. for the first time

  660. or if you're exploring

  661. Christian faith,

  662. here's an invitation

  663. for you

  664. to come to this

  665. holy God

  666. who,

  667. when you put your life

  668. in His hand,

  669. He will ransom you

  670. into His family,

  671. securing not only

  672. your future,

  673. but also giving you

  674. life right now,

  675. calling you

  676. to be His sons

  677. and daughters.

  678. And if you do

  679. call yourself

  680. a Christian

  681. this morning,

  682. let these words

  683. abide in your hearts.

  684. To live,

  685. therefore,

  686. to live in light

  687. of what God

  688. has done

  689. in Christ Jesus

  690. and how we've

  691. been ransomed,

  692. to pursue holiness

  693. in all parts

  694. of our life

  695. with reverent fear,

  696. having our eyes

  697. fixed

  698. on the future

  699. when Christ

  700. will return,

  701. will come,

  702. and when there

  703. shall be no more

  704. sin,

  705. no more suffering,

  706. and all the things

  707. that is wrong

  708. will be put right,

  709. when we will be

  710. finally arriving

  711. in our true home.

  712. And I know

  713. we all came

  714. with a very different

  715. state of heart.

  716. I know that some of us

  717. are going through pain

  718. and struggles

  719. and sufferings

  720. and health problems,

  721. while some of us

  722. are maybe just

  723. struggling with sin.

  724. Or maybe we're

  725. just thinking,

  726. my Christian life

  727. has been stagnant

  728. and it just feels

  729. I'm going nowhere.

  730. Or maybe some of us

  731. are doubting our faith.

  732. Or maybe some of us

  733. are just very far away

  734. thinking,

  735. I think Christ

  736. has already

  737. rejected me.

  738. Well, this passage

  739. calls all of us

  740. come to Him,

  741. the Holy God,

  742. with whom you don't

  743. pursue holiness,

  744. you don't be good

  745. to be saved,

  746. but you be good,

  747. you pursue Him

  748. because He has

  749. pursued us first.

  750. He has ransomed you

  751. with the precious

  752. blood of Christ

  753. while we were

  754. still sinners.

  755. What hand do we have

  756. in our salvation?

  757. What do we offer

  758. in our salvation,

  759. in our saving

  760. of our souls?

  761. nothing is Christ

  762. Jesus who puts

  763. down His life.

  764. And we come

  765. with open arms

  766. in faith and

  767. in hope.

  768. And our faith

  769. and hope is not

  770. vain because now

  771. it's placed in God,

  772. the one who has

  773. been faithful

  774. throughout history.

  775. He has been faithful

  776. with this covenant.

  777. He has been faithful

  778. in Christ Jesus

  779. and He will forever

  780. be faithful.

  781. He is our rock.

  782. He is our cornerstone.

  783. He is the unchanging

  784. one.

  785. He is the Alpha,

  786. He is the Omega.

  787. this is our hope.

  788. Our hope is not

  789. in vain.

  790. It's in living God.

  791. So church,

  792. let us keep our eyes

  793. fixed that one day

  794. Christ will come

  795. and we will be home.

  796. So Watermark Church,

  797. friends,

  798. brothers and sisters,

  799. verse 13,

  800. therefore,

  801. in light of all

  802. that truths,

  803. preparing your minds

  804. for actions

  805. and being so reminded,

  806. set your hope

  807. fully on the grace

  808. that will be brought

  809. to you

  810. at the revelation

  811. of Christ Jesus.

  812. Let us pray.

  813. Father,

  814. we,

  815. as we think

  816. of all of this,

  817. we

  818. can't help

  819. but be lost

  820. of word.

  821. God,

  822. when you just

  823. even think of

  824. while we were

  825. still sinners,

  826. you died for us.

  827. God,

  828. Psalms really

  829. captured what are we,

  830. what are men

  831. that you care

  832. so much about us

  833. and yet,

  834. God,

  835. you have sent

  836. your son,

  837. Jesus Christ,

  838. to die

  839. so that we can live,

  840. that he took

  841. upon our sins

  842. and we take

  843. upon his righteousness,

  844. his life.

  845. God,

  846. what a beautiful

  847. exchange that we

  848. can do this.

  849. God,

  850. in light of all

  851. of that,

  852. may our life

  853. not just be

  854. a life that is

  855. passionless

  856. and passive.

  857. Help our hearts

  858. to pursue you,

  859. to pursue holiness

  860. with reverent awe

  861. of who you are

  862. and what you have done.

  863. God,

  864. knowing that you are

  865. faithful,

  866. you have been faithful

  867. and you will always

  868. be faithful,

  869. fixing our eyes

  870. to that day

  871. when you,

  872. Christ,

  873. will come again

  874. and all our

  875. sufferings

  876. and all our

  877. health challenges

  878. and every suffering

  879. in the world

  880. and all evils

  881. will be put right.

  882. God,

  883. help us to

  884. live a life

  885. of holiness

  886. because you,

  887. God,

  888. you are holy.

  889. So,

  890. Father,

  891. come,

  892. have your way

  893. in our lives

  894. and we glorify you.

  895. In Jesus' name

  896. we pray.

  897. Amen.

  898. Amen.
