  5. much for allowing me to be here with you today.

  6. Thank Pastor Bob. I thank him from the bottom

  7. of my heart for allowing me to come and share

  8. some words with you today from God's holy word.

  9. This summer marks my 38th summer here at First

  10. Baptist Church, and I'm so blessed to be here.

  11. No, no. I should be applauding you. My mom keeps

  12. telling me you're going to catch on to me any

  13. day now. Speaking of my mom, I took her to visit

  14. four different retirement homes. She doesn't

  15. like to call them retirement homes. I forget

  16. what she calls them. in your golden years home

  17. something of that nature and I took her to see

  18. four different homes in the last week or so and

  19. my mom at 92 years old is moving to Wichita Falls

  20. so I'm really really excited about that. Do you

  21. realize what kind of blessed people you are to

  22. have that kind of worship? in a city of this

  23. size. I hope you really do. I don't normally

  24. get to sit in here. I'm always upstairs in the

  25. control room where I thank God there are a lot

  26. of other people up there today as well. But I

  27. normally hear it through speakers. To be out

  28. here and to hear that choir and to hear that

  29. incredible orchestra. My son plays in the orchestra,

  30. by the way. to hear all that, the organ, the

  31. piano and everything. You are blessed and highly

  32. favored and I hope you realize that because not

  33. everyone in this community experiences that kind

  34. of worship. I want to say a special hello to

  35. those of you who are watching by television today.

  36. Taking my mom on that tour, I met a lot of folks

  37. who do watch these services on television. time

  38. after time people would stop us and my mom would

  39. they would say I know you and my mom would say

  40. I've never been here before and then they would

  41. say not you him But they watch the station and

  42. they watch the worship services and the Sunday

  43. school class that we have the word of truth So

  44. you're a big part of that as well. So thank you

  45. to all of you who are watching the programs today

  46. from home I know we have a lot of amazing weather

  47. and God is so good to us to provide the weather

  48. for us So thank you. I want to say hello to the

  49. West campus and to the church at Shepherd And

  50. we're just glad that all of you are with us today

  51. Before the Vietnam War in the nation of Vietnam

  52. There was a man and his family who were committed

  53. to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with

  54. others They began to go from small actually villages

  55. in the outlying areas Beyond Hanoi beyond other

  56. of the somewhat built up cities to smaller rural

  57. areas Their heart was to share Jesus Christ with

  58. people who didn't know and had never experienced

  59. His grace and His love and His salvation. They

  60. appeared one day at a small village, and the

  61. village elder met them. And he said, you cannot

  62. speak to the people here unless first you accept

  63. our hospitality. He handed to the father a kind

  64. of a crude plate, and on it was a piece of meat.

  65. And to the little boy, it was only the dad and

  66. the little boy that went out that day, he handed

  67. a smaller portion of meat the 10 year old little

  68. boy looked at the meat that he had been handed

  69. to his horror to his disgust he found that on

  70. that piece of meat something was wriggling something

  71. was crawling something did not appear I see several

  72. people yes that was his reaction as well but

  73. he looked on with amazing passion Love and admiration

  74. as his father began to consume The piece that

  75. he'd been given which likewise was infested as

  76. well the little boy closed his eyes and took

  77. his first bite and As well consumed the piece

  78. that he had been given The elder said you may

  79. address our people with whatever message it was

  80. that you brought His father shed Christ with

  81. that group of people and it changed the course

  82. of history For those who received Jesus as their

  83. Savior time continued on in the nation of Vietnam

  84. and as you well know a war between essentially

  85. the north and the south Our nation was involved

  86. in some of my friends some of my most admired

  87. people in my life participated as fighting service

  88. people for our nation in that war. Eventually,

  89. the war came to a conclusion and it was the Communist

  90. Party who won. That family had to flee, they

  91. had to leave Vietnam because at that point the

  92. outward propagation of the gospel was not as

  93. welcomed, not as accepted, and became a little

  94. more dangerous. And so they came with so many

  95. who immigrated here to the United States to these

  96. shores. And ironically enough, God began to give

  97. them another ministry. He began to give them

  98. a ministry to those who had been displaced. And

  99. He found very many, many people from Asian nations,

  100. specifically even from Vietnam, who came to the

  101. U .S. and they became His new congregation. They

  102. became His new mission field. And over the years

  103. that family had a tremendous impact, not only

  104. then in the nation from which they had come,

  105. but from the United States as well. And even

  106. to this day the third generation of that family

  107. is serving now as a medical missionary overseas.

  108. God is so very, very good. God is so very, very

  109. great. God is so very, very awesome. But it is

  110. our job. To be making him known in the world

  111. in which we live It is our task. It is the thing

  112. that he has given to us to do We are to be making

  113. him known. I invite you if you have your Bible's

  114. eternal with me to Psalms chapter 67 It's a little

    Psalms 67 chapter mention

  115. bitty short song, and if you read any Bible commentaries,

  116. you'll find that most commentaries, most theologians,

  117. most biblical scholars believe that it was written

  118. probably to honor something like the Feast of

  119. the Tabernacles, or to honor some other feast

  120. in the traditions of the church. Because they

  121. were celebrating, they were saying, thank you,

  122. God, for the harvest. Meeting with verse one,

  123. God be gracious to us. and bless us, and cause

  124. His face to shine upon us. That your way may

  125. be known on the earth, your salvation among all

  126. nations. Let the people praise you, O God. Let

  127. all the peoples praise you. Let the nations be

  128. glad and sing for joy, for you will judge the

  129. peoples with uprightness and guide the nations

  130. on the earth. Let the people praise you, O God.

  131. Let all the peoples praise you. The earth has

  132. yielded its produce. God, our God. God blesses

  133. us. God blesses us that all the ends of the earth

  134. may fear Him. May God bless the reading of His

  135. word. Would you bow with me please for a word

  136. of prayer? Heavenly Father, as we look at this

  137. small passage, help us to have big hearts. As

  138. we look at this small passage, help us to have

  139. big passions. As we look at this small passage,

  140. help us to go big and live large for You. In

  141. Jesus name I pray these things amen In my prayer.

  142. I mentioned the words go big I'm so excited for

  143. that Sunday Because that Sunday basically heralds

  144. for us it harkens us back to another year of

  145. church year You know when the school year starts

  146. we kind of start here, too But by the way in

  147. case you have any misgivings or misunderstandings

  148. We don't stop during the summer Indian as I'm

  149. speaking to you now Members of our staff as well

  150. as volunteers members of our congregation are

  151. serving God in the nation of Africa Throughout

  152. this summer. We've had a number of different

  153. mission trips into Oklahoma here in the heart

  154. of Texas And we continue to do so but I get excited

  155. when I think about that Sunday because it does

  156. say to us Let's get things going again right

  157. here at our church as we looked at that passage

  158. You noticed, I hope some of you have recognized

  159. that verse one that says, God be gracious to

  160. us and bless us and cause His face to shine upon

  161. us. That's actually a blessing that you find

  162. originally in Numbers, but it's often used in

  163. more liturgical churches as a way of saying to

  164. the congregation from the pastor or the leader,

  165. I hope God blesses you this week. He certainly

  166. is blessing me. point of personal privilege,

  167. if I may, I continue to believe that God is healing

  168. me right now. I had another treatment this week

  169. and I continue to believe that through everything

  170. that God is allowing me to go through, God is

  171. ministering to me. And you know what's so great

  172. about God among the many things that are so great

  173. about Him? He's so faithful. Can I get an amen

  174. from anybody in here? Is He so faithful to us?

  175. Does He love us so unconditionally? Does He love

  176. us so passionately? Does he love us so carey?

  177. But on the other hand He did say There will be

  178. consequences if we don't trust him if we do not

  179. accept him as our Lord and Savior There are consequences.

  180. Do you realize maybe you don't let me share this

  181. with you a recent poll by the Pew Research Center

  182. indicated that 38 % of Christians do not believe

  183. in a literal hell 38 % which means at least a

  184. third of believers don't really feel like there's

  185. any impetus at all any need to share the good

  186. news of Jesus with others because in all sincerity

  187. there isn't a lasting torment place of utter

  188. sadness Desolation You hear those people who

  189. joke they'll say oh, I don't mind going to hell

  190. all my friends are going there We'll have a one

  191. big party. No No, I Gave you some outline notes

  192. and one of the first ones for you to fill out

  193. I want to fill it out for you I want you to understand

  194. this body of Christ if you don't already you

  195. need to know this and I hope we can always accept

  196. this as fact There is a heaven There is a hell

  197. and without Jesus people go to hell Without Jesus

  198. people suffer in their present and for all Eternity,

  199. let me read that for you again. There is a heaven

  200. and there is a hell Listen to me. It doesn't

  201. matter if you don't believe it. You didn't make

  202. the rules God did without Jesus people are gonna

  203. go to hell And let me describe hell for you without

  204. Jesus people are gonna suffer right now in their

  205. present they do Ask anybody who's going through

  206. addiction They suffer in their present and they

  207. will suffer for all eternity There is a reason

  208. why our church engages in missions There is a

  209. reason why we're part of what we call the cooperative

  210. program the International Mission Board the North

  211. American Mission Board and many others Because

  212. people do go to hell if they don't know Jesus

  213. Christ Can I get a witness from anybody in the

  214. body of Christ? Now if you don't believe that

  215. come see me later Because Jesus you may not know

  216. this but it's true Jesus spoke more about hell

  217. Then he spoke about heaven He spoke more about

  218. the place of eternal torment the place of separation

  219. from God the place where it's described as Wailing

  220. and weeping and gnashing of teeth He spoke more

  221. about hell than he did about heaven because he

  222. knows not new past tense He knows present tense

  223. there is a heaven and there is a hell and he

  224. wanted he said I desire that all would be saved

  225. He didn't want anyone to go there. I Have several

  226. important points I want to make from this small

  227. passage of scripture The first one I want to

  228. talk about is the goal. There is a goal that

  229. the psalmist writes to us about. If I could read

  230. verse two again, it says that your way may be

  231. known on the earth, your salvation among all

  232. the nations. The first goal I believe is that

  233. we're to make Him, His way, and His saving power

  234. known everywhere. We're to make Him, God, His

  235. way. Jesus said, I'm the way, the truth, and

  236. the life. No man comes to the Father except man.

  237. We're to make him, his way, and his saving power

  238. known to all of the nations. By the way, it doesn't

  239. matter if we like the way they look, if we like

  240. the way they act, if we appreciate their style

  241. of music, or we appreciate their culture. It

  242. doesn't matter. I'm never going to win anyone

  243. to Christ by telling them how awful they are

  244. in their music taste. Okay? I do not like rap

  245. music. I do not like rap music. Let me just put

  246. this out there. And I'm not a big fan of goth

  247. or death metal or screamo either. And some of

  248. you are saying, what is he talking about? I'm

  249. not a big fan, okay? When you get into my pickup,

  250. if you hit button number one, if it's not already

  251. hit, it's KMOC, okay? I'm listening to 89 .5.

  252. I'm not a big fan of rap. But people without

  253. Jesus? who are listening to whoever are still

  254. going to go to hell and they should be of a concern

  255. to me can I get a witness in here just because

  256. their pants are saggy and I'd like to see them

  257. pulled up they still need Jesus because without

  258. Jesus they go to hell yes or no come on amen

  259. you know I like old movies and I'm a big fan

  260. of old movie stars but sometimes I literally

  261. find myself sitting there watching some big star

  262. from the past who never gave a hint of a Christian

  263. testimony and I ask myself do I cause more eternal

  264. sorrow in my finding joy in their motion picture

  265. presentation while they spend their eternity

  266. in hell. Listen to me. Hell is separation from

  267. God. Hell never stops. Anybody in here ever had

  268. a toothache? Raise your hand if you've ever had

  269. a toothache. I'm telling you right now. I praise

  270. God for my dentist. He knows how to get into

  271. this mouth and take care of stuff. But eventually

  272. you say to yourself, they're going to do something

  273. to numb the pain, and they're going to pull that

  274. tooth, and they're going to do something, they're

  275. going to fill that tooth, they're going to do

  276. something that's going to stop the pain. In hell,

  277. the pain never stops. Jesus said it like this

  278. in Matthew 28. This was the command. Go, therefore,

  279. and make disciples of all nations, baptizing

  280. in the name of the Father and the Son and the

  281. Holy Spirit. Go He didn't say stay he didn't

  282. say figure out a way to get yourself behind the

  283. walls of your castle or whatever it is No, look

  284. at the first two words go therefore I Used to

  285. love to listen still do love to listen to a gentleman

  286. named Keith Green Keith perished in a plane crash

  287. many many years ago long before I came to this

  288. church I had the great privilege of, for a brief

  289. period of time, traveling with His ministry and

  290. seeing Him deliver the Word of God. One of the

  291. last songs that Keith recorded before his death

  292. was a song that said, Jesus commands us to go.

  293. It should be the exception if we stay. He wants

  294. us to go. Years ago, in China, there was a medical

  295. missionary. He devoted his life along with the

  296. lives of his wife and family to the service of

  297. others He served in a nation at that time that

  298. had not yet turned to the communism of today

  299. so there was still to some degree of Freedom

  300. for he and his fellow missionaries to share the

  301. good news of Jesus and they did it in a practical

  302. way by ministering to needs His daughter was

  303. named Ruth And as she watched her father, Dr.

  304. Nelson Bell, minister to others, she became inspired

  305. by his example. Eventually, she was to leave

  306. China after going to missionary school for the

  307. missionary kids in China. She moved to the United

  308. States and she enrolled in Wheaton College. Do

  309. you know where this story is going? Yeah. Eventually

  310. she met a young guy named William, who by his

  311. friends was known as Billy. and Ruth Bell Graham

  312. influenced generations to come because God used

  313. her missionary father to impact her life and

  314. to influence others. Your International Mission

  315. Board which has Southern Baptists you help to

  316. support is right now doing a thing, I want to

  317. make sure I get this note right, called Mission

  318. 3000 where they're trying to reach unreached

  319. people groups. In the world, do you realize right

  320. now you can go to Walmart and buy a Bible? If

  321. you're sitting there waiting for your prescription

  322. to be filled at CVS Pharmacy, right next to you

  323. is favorite saints of Jesus on a little rack.

  324. Have you seen it that spins around and you can

  325. look at different books on that rack? But there

  326. are some places in the world right now where

  327. they do not have the Word of God in their own

  328. language. So how do they, the Word of God say,

  329. Says, how do they understand unless first they

  330. hear? How are they going to grasp it if somebody

  331. doesn't share that with them? This is a mission

  332. -minded church. This is a church that believes

  333. in missions. Here's the thing. The Word of God

  334. says that we need to be making His way and His

  335. truth known throughout the world. Here's how

  336. your church does some of this. I just talked

  337. to you about Larry and others who are over there

  338. in Africa right now, but then I mentioned other

  339. things but for instance Mission Aviation Fellowship

  340. How many of you know Dave and Jill Holmes? They

  341. serve with Mission Aviation Fellowship right

  342. now in Mozambique their pictures about to come

  343. up on the screen. They're an amazing couple and

  344. oh I forgot it's okay. The screens are messed

  345. up right now So I'm just gonna carry on but Dave

  346. and Jill Holmes serve in in Mozambique Africa.

  347. Let me tell you something If you run out of milk

  348. today, you just drive over to the store, right?

  349. You need some shampoo? I was with Dave and Jill

  350. a few years ago in Mozambique, and I don't have

  351. enough hair to shampoo that much anyway, but

  352. I'd forgotten my shampoo. I said, can't we just

  353. run over to the market or something? And they

  354. both looked at me like, are you crazy? I couldn't

  355. even find mane and tail, the horse shampoo that

  356. they sell. There was nothing in Africa. Dave

  357. and Jill served there in Africa. We have people

  358. who are sent out from this church who serve with

  359. the Wycliffe Bible translators. They're helping

  360. to translate the word of God into other languages.

  361. Megan and Chris Weaver right now are serving

  362. in Papua New Guinea, and every time you give

  363. to the impact offering, you're helping. There

  364. they are right there. Thank you, Jeff. There

  365. they are. There they are in Papua New Guinea.

  366. And by the way, that's a feast for them up there,

  367. okay? The goat is eaten out of the same table,

  368. okay? Body of Christ, he wants us to be willing.

  369. He wants us to be willing. This year, Mark Mackey

  370. are... campus pastor at Church at Shepherd and

  371. his wife, his wonderful wife, they went to Canada

  372. to do some leg work for us because our pastor

  373. and Jerry Roll, our executive pastor, want us

  374. to have a footprint in Canada. We've helped to

  375. plant churches in Utah and I'm telling you right

  376. now the Church of the Valley Mrs. Justin Bindel

  377. very very much, but they're still growing and

  378. they're still doing amazing things as well as

  379. Redemption Church up in Ogden, Utah again an

  380. amazing church and God is doing wonderful things

  381. through them you Helped make that happen You're

  382. giving your prayers your faithfulness to God

  383. It's helping other people in a very unreached

  384. state by the way If you want to go to a state

  385. where people don't know Jesus drive to Utah or

  386. fly to Utah, okay They know about a huge Jesus

  387. statue and they know about a Jesus that was apparently

  388. according to one of their first prophets either

  389. Smith or Young the half -brother of Satan What?

  390. If you want to go to a place where they need

  391. the real Jesus, that's where you're going right

  392. now Because you helped plant the church in the

  393. valley. Pastor Bob and Mary Ann and wonderful

  394. Callie were just with Bobby Wood who really started

  395. Redemption Church up in Ogden. You see, not every

  396. one of you is called to go to every location.

  397. But you're going. You're going as a church. There's

  398. a second point I want us to look at here. Oh,

  399. let me mention one more thing since they've left

  400. me, but I know they're still in the building.

  401. There's David. We have musicians who have gone

  402. all over the world as well. In fact, you have

  403. a coming trip, right David, to Europe and they'll

  404. be singing and they'll be praising God in a number

  405. of different nations. And by the way, if you

  406. don't think people need encouragement, go to

  407. a continent where they have a war going on right

  408. now. Come on come on nod your head if you're

  409. hearing anything I'm saying You don't think people

  410. need encouragement go to a continent where they're

  411. having a war going on We have relationships in

  412. Europe with wonderful institutions Including

  413. a manual university, which is amazing. It's the

  414. largest sending University on the continent of

  415. Europe and your pastor goes there regularly and

  416. teaches those little preacher guys how to rightly

  417. divide the word of truth Asia as well Larry Maldon's

  418. already got friends in Japan but there's a second

  419. point I want to make and that's the result okay

  420. we know what the goal is but what's the result

  421. that we hope to achieve I want to read again

  422. verses 2 through 5 Psalm 67 verse 2, that your

    Psalms 67:2

  423. way may be known on the earth, your salvation

  424. among all the nations, let the peoples praise

  425. you, oh God. Let all the peoples praise you.

  426. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for

  427. you will judge the peoples with uprightness and

  428. guide the nations on the earth. Let the people

  429. praise you, oh God. Let all the people praise

  430. you. You can't praise God if you don't know Him.

  431. And you won't celebrate Him If you haven't experienced

  432. his salvation, can I get a witness from anybody

  433. out here? You see, we have the joy of the Lord.

  434. I hope you have the joy of the Lord, because

  435. I do. And if you don't, come see me. We have

  436. the joy of the Lord and it's our strength because

  437. we know in whom we have believed and we are persuaded

  438. that he is able to keep that which we have committed,

  439. how's the rest of it go? Unto him against that

  440. day. You know why the old songs are great because

  441. they're theologically sound John said I know

  442. in whom I have believed and I am persuaded that

  443. he is able This passage in psalm 67 says we want

  444. the people to praise God in Luke chapter 4 verses

    Luke 4:18

  445. 18 and 19 Jesus puts it this way The Spirit of

  446. the Lord is upon me because he's anointed me

  447. to preach the good news to the poor. He sent

  448. me to proclaim to the captives, release rather

  449. to the captives, and recovery of sight to the

  450. blind, to those, I'm gonna set free those who

  451. are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year

  452. of the Lord. Do you see those words up on the

  453. screen just now as you're reading God's word?

  454. Because not everybody has your copy of the scripture

  455. open. You know why I keep looking down front?

  456. because you're involved in another area of missions.

  457. You right now are sending what you're hearing

  458. in this room, it's going out over the world wide

  459. web, thanks to all those technicians upstairs

  460. and in the IT department at this church. It's

  461. available even for Dave and Jill that I referenced

  462. earlier. Regularly they watch the services from

  463. this church in Africa. And we have service men

  464. and service women who were stationed at Shepherd

  465. who miss being a part of this body and they tune

  466. in on their laptops or on their phones or on

  467. their Kindles or whatever and they're watching

  468. the services. I mentioned to you earlier that

  469. I went to several nursing homes with my mom here

  470. in town. I couldn't get in and out of most of

  471. them, in fact all of them, without people telling

  472. me they watch. Right now there are three Cameron

  473. people that you can see and there are dozens

  474. more people all over this building, technicians

  475. in the AV department. You're being a missionary

  476. by spreading the good news of Jesus because that's

  477. what missions really is. But Jesus said I've

  478. come to set captives free and there are a lot

  479. of captives. In our community. Yeah right here

  480. in Wichita. You don't have to go where Larry

  481. and Randy and the team are right now To see people

  482. who need Jesus who are in captivity The school

  483. year is about to start I told you how excited

  484. I am about go big Sunday Because that also heralds

  485. the beginning of school where you're seated right

  486. now in our congregation this Thursday We'll have

  487. a rehearsal on this Friday Jeff. Am I wrong,

  488. but every seat in the building will be filled

  489. right? Yeah Every seat, there's a great group

  490. of you here today and I praise God for you. Thank

  491. you for being here. But every pew in this room

  492. will be filled this Friday with teachers and

  493. support staff from the WFISD. But at Scotland

  494. Park Elementary School, this fall means the resumption

  495. of the Good News Club. which literally teaches

  496. young boys and young girls about Jesus Christ

  497. right there on the campus. And our own Amber

  498. Bindle led it all last year. And our church has

  499. committed once again this year to give the funds

  500. necessary to help sponsor the backpacks and the

  501. school supplies for those children at Scotland

  502. Park. You're a mission church. And your mission

  503. field doesn't have to be, it can be, but it doesn't

  504. have to be across the ocean. the good news club

  505. that you sponsor, the faith mission right around

  506. the corner from here, interfaith ministry not

  507. too far from here, southern grit advocacy that

  508. helps to combat, to thwart, to stomp, to stop,

  509. and to educate about human trafficking, you're

  510. helping that incredible endeavor. The pregnancy

  511. help center, they just had their walk for life,

  512. you helped with that endeavor. We have an amazing

  513. prison and jail ministry right now in this room.

  514. I can see Clint Titsworth There may be some others

  515. who are involved in prison ministry last week

  516. I got to go into the prison at all red. I love

  517. going to all red I love being out there and playing

  518. my guitar and there were some services and I

  519. would tell you right now Some of the most fervent

  520. Christians, I know are guys in white Because

  521. here right now you're singing and they got the

  522. words for you up on the screen and the wonderful

  523. quiet orchestra Leading you in worship and at

  524. the prison they got the prison band And I'm gonna

  525. tell you right now that drummer is so good when

  526. he sweats the sweat beads fall off of him in

  527. rhythm Mm -hmm the yes it does and the bass player.

  528. He sounds like he should have been playing with

  529. Stevie Wonder It's an incredible band But their

  530. worship is so fervent and so passionate why?

  531. Because they want Jesus with all their hearts

  532. and when they sing I Surrender all they mean

  533. it They mean it You also help with recovery ministry

  534. here in Wichita Falls and you may not know this

  535. But last year there was a big event called sober

  536. fest did any of you hear about it? your church

  537. helped to sponsor it. Amen. I should be hearing

  538. amen from somebody in this room right now. Because

  539. one of the greatest mission fields in the entire

  540. world right now actually doesn't require you

  541. to go anywhere but right over here on broad or

  542. holiday. Because addiction and alcoholism are

  543. two of the worst diseases facing this entire

  544. world and people are dying every day. and we

  545. want to see people in recovery and we want to

  546. see people get their lives right with Jesus so

  547. their children don't have to grow up without

  548. mom and dad so their children don't have to grow

  549. up wondering where their next meal is going to

  550. come from or they sure hope school starts again

  551. so they can eat the free breakfast and lunch

  552. because mom and dad are in recovery and they're

  553. walking the right walk the right path I want

  554. to read Psalm 67 one more time. I want to go

  555. back to verse 4. You will judge the peoples with

  556. righteousness and guide the nations. There is

  557. going to be a time for judgment. And if you don't

  558. believe it again, come see me. We'll talk about

  559. this. But there will be a day when every knee

  560. will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus

  561. Christ is Lord. And if people aren't ready, They

  562. will spend eternity in hell, but there's one

  563. more goal. There's one more thing. I hope to

  564. accomplish That's the harvest. That's the harvest

  565. On the Friday of this past week my grandson one

  566. of my grandsons My great. I love this kid. He's

  567. such a great Do any of you have grandchildren?

  568. I'm just telling you right now, by the end of

  569. October, I should have five living in Wichita

  570. Falls. You're not gonna be able to get me out

  571. of here with a blast, okay? I'm staying here

  572. till the rapture. Unless Jesus tells me different,

  573. I'm gonna have five grandchildren living in Wichita

  574. Falls. My mother, my mother -in -law, my son,

  575. my youngest daughter, their respective spouses

  576. all living here, but my grandson David called

  577. me and he said, Pops, Pops, there is smoke coming

  578. out from underneath our sink. There was smoke.

  579. Smart kid. He thought to call his grandfather.

  580. Perhaps you should call 911. My wife, my wife

  581. is the smart one in the house. She called 911.

  582. And the fire trucks beat me there. Of course,

  583. I got to be careful, you know. I got a reputation.

  584. Don't want to be caught speeding. Didn't have

  585. to run any red lights getting here, by the way,

  586. today. None of the lights are working downtown.

  587. So I get over to to my son and my wonderful daughter

  588. -in -law my brand new grandbaby was born on July

  589. the third and my older he didn't use the phone

  590. the other grandson did I Get over there and sure

  591. enough there's smoke coming out from underneath

  592. what wasn't anymore But the city was testing

  593. their sewer lines And I guess there's a small

  594. crack in their pee trap or something Rick and

  595. so the a little bit of smoke came out But you

  596. know what? That same morning my older daughter

  597. who just moved to Ohio call me. She's a dad Water

  598. was coming down from the ceiling in the new house.

  599. We just bought it. We closed on Monday. Turned

  600. out they'd hired a plumber who was not exactly

  601. fully on his game just yet. And one of his staff

  602. had neglected to stop water in one pipe. I tell

  603. you both those stories. I tell you those are

  604. first world problems. There's a third world.

  605. And their issue is, do I have enough to eat today?

  606. Will my child survive this illness? Will the

  607. medical needs that we have from somebody like

  608. Mercy Ships or someone like Dave and Jill flying

  609. a doctor to them in a helicopter, those are the

  610. third world problems that we really don't experience

  611. here, that they experienced, by the way, in the

  612. hill country. I didn't know how our pictures

  613. were working, so I didn't mention this, but over

  614. the last month, Since the Fourth of July and

  615. the flooding in the Hill Country area of Texas,

  616. you've literally sent, as a church, thousands

  617. of dollars to that area to help. And right now,

  618. we're trying to get a team together. If you'd

  619. like to go on any one of those trips, just give

  620. me a call. But there is a picture of people that

  621. they call Texans on mission. And by the way,

  622. you, with your prayers and your funding, are

  623. helping them do what they do right now. The need

  624. is not as bad in the hill country now because

  625. now what they're going to need is rebuilding.

  626. But even if you can't go, you can pray. I have

  627. a quote that my friend Terry has gotten prepared

  628. for you and a friend upstairs is going to put

  629. it in for you, but I want you to see this quote.

  630. This is from a wonderful biblical scholar, R

  631. .A. Torrey. He wrote this, the man or woman at

  632. home who prays often has as much to do with the

  633. effectiveness of the missionary on the field

  634. and consequently with the results of his or her

  635. labors as does the missionary." Let me read that

  636. quote for you again. The man or the woman at

  637. home who prays often has as much to do with the

  638. effectiveness of the missionary on the field

  639. and consequently with the results of his or her

  640. labors as the missionary. Are you understanding

  641. this at all? Nod your head if you're understanding

  642. that. What that means is, Thurman, when you pray,

  643. you're as effective as the missionary on the

  644. field. When you pray, when you lift up our International

  645. Mission Board missionaries, when you lift up

  646. our college students and our high school students

  647. and our middle school students going on missions,

  648. when you lift up things like our family missionary

  649. trip to Medill. When you pray, often, not by

  650. the way, sporadically, his quote was often, when

  651. you pray, you have as much effectiveness as that

  652. missionary on the field. We'll see you next week.
