  1. happy Sabbath church family

  2. it is good to be back

  3. I have been out

  4. with uh pneumonia for a little while

  5. and if I cough a few times during the

  6. sermon I apologize it's been uh I've

  7. coughed more in my life in the last two

  8. weeks and I have my whole life before

  9. that anybody had the pleasure of having

  10. pneumonia before

  11. yeah it's not a pleasure at all it's uh

  12. it's the worst I've ever been sick and I

  13. am glad for for the medications that I

  14. had that are helping me get better

  15. my doctor who's a good friend of mine

  16. his uh I don't think this is medical

  17. terminology but uh he says your lungs

  18. look like garbage

  19. and they felt like garbage and so I'm

  20. glad to be on the mend and be uh be

  21. getting back on two feet and I'm very

  22. very glad to be here to worship with my

  23. church family today it's good to be here

  24. we're going through a sermon series on

  25. biblical foundations key biblical

  26. teachings in the Bible that are

  27. imperative very important Pastor Jeff

  28. started us off last week with creation

  29. and we're going to be looking at

  30. creation for three weeks as a part of

  31. this

  32. and uh for everything we see in creation

  33. there are a lot of varieties of

  34. teachings about what happened then or

  35. what what happened during that creation

  36. week and so we are going to be looking

  37. for biblical Clarity specifically in

  38. creation week and then going on into

  39. some of the uh the basic Bible teachings

  40. that are essential for us as Seventh-day

  41. Adventist Christians to understand

  42. this week we are looking at something

  43. that happened in creation week on day

  44. number six

  45. and it has to do with marriage

  46. I noticed when I was a young man

  47. that boys and girls were different I

  48. always knew it but there was a moment

  49. where I was like wait what and it was it

  50. was a time probably in junior high where

  51. I think our class was out to dinner

  52. somewhere as a class event

  53. and uh everybody was there all my

  54. buddies were there all the girls in the

  55. class were there

  56. and one of the girls in the class said I

  57. need to go to the bathroom

  58. and she stood up and she looked at all

  59. of her friends she didn't go to the

  60. bathroom she just looked at her friends

  61. and waited

  62. and her friends went I need to go to the

  63. bathroom too

  64. and then one by one they all stood up

  65. until all of the girls got up and they

  66. left and they went to the bathroom

  67. together as a group

  68. and my buddies and I being 12 13 year

  69. old years old we kind of looked around

  70. like what just happened

  71. we don't go to the bathroom in groups

  72. that's a terrible idea

  73. and we looked around and kind of like

  74. confused because half the group was gone

  75. all the girls were gone and I remember

  76. being a young man thinking man I will

  77. never understand this so let's talk

  78. about football

  79. and all the guys were kind of the same

  80. we were kind of like well okay we're

  81. gonna know what's going on here but uh

  82. let's just hang out I guess until they

  83. come back

  84. I realized that men and women are very

  85. different

  86. and as I got older

  87. this realization became

  88. even more obvious

  89. men and women

  90. Drive differently

  91. have you noticed this

  92. don't look at your spouse right now it's

  93. not safe

  94. don't look at them

  95. men and women Drive differently

  96. I do my best driving

  97. when I'm sitting in the driver's seat

  98. behind the steering wheel

  99. my wife does her best driving

  100. when she's riding shotgun next to me

  101. and I might do my best sleeping this

  102. week on the couch after saying that

  103. she can see somebody in front of us

  104. stopping before they even know they're

  105. gonna stop

  106. she's safe like that my wife does have

  107. superpowers though

  108. I learned this my wife has a superpower

  109. many times in our marriage she said

  110. Jamie can you get something out of the

  111. refrigerator for me

  112. I say sure so I go to the refrigerator I

  113. open the door and I start looking for

  114. what she's asked for I get down look at

  115. the lower the lower shelves lean this

  116. way maybe move some stuff I look this

  117. way don't see it

  118. I look again not there I say honey it's

  119. not there she says yes it is it's right

  120. there

  121. I look again

  122. I don't see it

  123. she comes in this is where she has

  124. superpowers I don't know how she does

  125. this

  126. but she will reach right in front of

  127. where I'm looking and what she was

  128. looking for and what I've been looking

  129. for appears right in front of me

  130. don't know how she does it don't know

  131. how she does it I was looking right

  132. there it wasn't there she can make it

  133. appear out of thin air

  134. we have different sleeping temperatures

  135. I like a lot of blankets lots of

  136. blankets down comforters all those

  137. things pile me up open the window so

  138. it's cold but give me lots and lots of

  139. blankets

  140. my wife sleeps hot

  141. she doesn't want all the blankets she

  142. wants one blanket

  143. so we have a pile here and one like this

  144. and we're both happy

  145. I fall asleep quickly

  146. as soon as I hit the pillow

  147. I fall asleep I never knew this was a

  148. problem

  149. but I've gotten looks that I've learned

  150. to to recognize in my marriage that are

  151. concerning who I look like am I in

  152. trouble

  153. am I in trouble for falling asleep so

  154. fast how do you fall asleep so fast I've

  155. heard it takes me 25-30 minutes to fall

  156. asleep

  157. and I sleep deep too

  158. I've gotten in trouble for that

  159. one time when our son Josh was three

  160. I know I didn't know any of this I had a

  161. great night's sleep

  162. in fact I woke up thinking wow I feel

  163. really rested this morning

  164. and it was so good the sleep was so good

  165. I decided to comment on it to my wife

  166. I said Aaron I slept really good did you

  167. sleep good it was like man it was really

  168. good sleep you know you have one of

  169. those really good night sleeps and

  170. you're like oh man I feel great I said

  171. man I slept so good did you sleep good I

  172. slept really good and she didn't answer

  173. she's looked at me

  174. like that kind of

  175. I was like okay my man radar is going

  176. off something is not right

  177. and she said

  178. you didn't hear anything last night

  179. I said no I didn't hear anything

  180. she says because our son Josh who's

  181. three at the time

  182. he was screaming at the top of his lungs

  183. three feet away from your head last

  184. night

  185. and I was like oh

  186. I didn't know that I didn't hear

  187. anything

  188. I sleep really deep

  189. not everybody sleeps really deep

  190. there was a thread

  191. on Twitter that talked a little bit

  192. about the differences between dating and

  193. marriage and what marriage is like it

  194. said this this is what dating is like I

  195. can't wait to see you again

  196. marriage is like part of your knee was

  197. on my side of the bed again last night

  198. another tweet said there are two kinds

  199. of people the one that picked that

  200. packed six days before a trip and the

  201. ones that wake up the day of and realize

  202. they need to do a load of laundry and

  203. those people marry each other

  204. marriage is having separate tubes of

  205. toothpaste because your spouse squeezes

  206. it wrong

  207. before I got married I didn't even know

  208. there was a wrong way to put the milk

  209. back in the refrigerator

  210. there's a quote that I really enjoy and

  211. it says men marry women hoping they will

  212. never change and they do

  213. Women Marry men hoping they will change

  214. and they never do

  215. marriage

  216. is a fascinating thing to look at but

  217. when you see how God made each one of us

  218. uniquely it's a blessing that we're not

  219. exactly the same you see God made us

  220. complementary to each other so that one

  221. person's strengths might be another

  222. person's weaknesses and they can balance

  223. each other out one person may be really

  224. good at saving the other one might be a

  225. Spender

  226. one person might be very organized the

  227. other one might be a slob

  228. I should say sloppy probably instead

  229. some of you are probably like what

  230. did you hear that

  231. people are so different

  232. some might be structured some might be

  233. more free-spirited

  234. but in the beginning God created both

  235. men and women and made them for each

  236. other to complement each other

  237. to work together as a pair

  238. we might joke about the broad

  239. differences but those differences are

  240. really what makes us a good team in a

  241. married relationship

  242. learning how to play fair

  243. is the challenge in married life

  244. now as we jump into this topic in the

  245. Bible I want to ask you a couple of

  246. questions just so we have Clarity moving

  247. forward in this study

  248. do you believe that the Bible is God's

  249. word yes or no

  250. do you believe that the Bible is

  251. trustworthy yes or no

  252. if the answer is yes then we have to be

  253. able to trust everything that God says

  254. in the Bible as gospel truth don't we

  255. and we can trust it knowing that it

  256. comes from the lips of God Almighty

  257. inspired through the people he had right

  258. down

  259. turn with me in your Bibles as we jump

  260. into this topic Genesis chapter 1

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  261. Genesis chapter 1 and we'll start in

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  262. verse 26 the very beginning of the Bible

  263. Genesis 1

    Genesis 1:26

  264. verse 26 and it says this then God said

  265. let us make man in our image according

  266. to our likeness let them have dominion

  267. over the fish of the sea over the birds

  268. of the air over the cattle over all the

  269. Earth over every creeping thing that

  270. creeps on the earth verse 27. so God

  271. created man in his own image in the

  272. image of God he created him male and

  273. female he created them I love the

  274. clarity in the Bible when God talks

  275. about these topics because right here

  276. God clears up clears up some

  277. misconceptions in our society today

  278. because according to my Bible according

  279. to the Creator God he clears up for us

  280. just how many genders there are right

  281. here in the beginning of Genesis he says

  282. God created them man and woman male and

  283. female my Bible says there are two

  284. genders

  285. and if that's what God says if I believe

  286. the rest of the Bible I have to believe

  287. this as well

  288. he created them male and female and in

  289. this specific creation order God says

  290. there is a blessing in this when we look

  291. in verse 28 it says then God blessed

  292. them and God said to them be fruitful

  293. and multiply this is the only scenario

  294. on planet Earth

  295. in the context of a male and a female

  296. that you can be fruitful and multiply

  297. and experience this blessing that God

  298. says and and truly

  299. being a parent is a huge blessing

  300. I've got three kids you just saw them up

  301. here a moment ago

  302. I have so much fun being a dad

  303. it's the most fun thing I've ever done

  304. I've done a lot of really cool things in

  305. life I've gone skydiving scuba diving

  306. traveled all around the world

  307. done all kinds of fun stuff

  308. the most fun I've ever had hanging out

  309. with my kids and showing them the world

  310. and teaching them different things that

  311. I've learned being a father is one of

  312. the most fun things ever and

  313. experiencing that blessing

  314. is one of the things that God intended

  315. for this marriage relationship

  316. between a husband and a wife and there's

  317. all kinds of other blessings between the

  318. husband and wife to enjoy each other's

  319. company and to grow old together and to

  320. support each other there's so many other

  321. blessings within this marriage context

  322. that we see here in the beginning of the

  323. Bible

  324. but I love the clarity of the Bible

  325. I love how God talks about these things

  326. so that we can understand because as we

  327. see later on in the Bible we see some

  328. deviations from this Garden of Eden

  329. model for marriage very quickly in fact

  330. and God talks about these other

  331. combinations in the Bible because

  332. they're important to us as humans to get

  333. understanding of what we should and

  334. should not be doing

  335. now God doesn't say these things to try

  336. and restrict anything from us when God

  337. gives us instructions I believe with all

  338. my heart that God is telling us that

  339. these things are best for us because we

  340. will experience the most happiness

  341. fulfillment and joy when we follow God's

  342. plan for our lives

  343. and so right off the bat

  344. in the Bible we see polygamy become

  345. popular

  346. and some use it as a cultural thing to

  347. excuse it Laban is an example of this

  348. with Isaac Rachel and Leah

  349. not a single time though when we see

  350. this this walking away from God's ideal

  351. in the Garden of Eden with this polygamy

  352. example here not once do we see and a

  353. lot of a lot of good people tried this

  354. we see this all over in the Old

  355. Testament polygamy multiple wives all

  356. these different things

  357. have you ever noticed that not once in

  358. any of those stories where people like

  359. man I had eight wives and it was amazing

  360. it was the most peaceful marriage I've

  361. ever had

  362. is that the theme for polygamy in the

  363. Bible not really right

  364. every time there was a polygamous

  365. relationship

  366. it got so complicated

  367. excuse me it got so complicated there

  368. was so much trauma in the home there was

  369. so much anger and complication

  370. that it worked out way worse than it

  371. would have been if it had if they had

  372. been following God's model for this

  373. marriage arrangement

  374. when I look at the Bible and I've had

  375. this question many times

  376. in our modern society this is a big

  377. topic that is uh that is all over the

  378. place

  379. this idea of marriage and sexuality

  380. one thing that I very much appreciate

  381. about scripture is its consistency

  382. throughout the Bible

  383. we see God address different

  384. situations

  385. that come up in human history in regards

  386. to sexuality and marriage and

  387. consistently we see God's people

  388. throughout the centuries who he chose to

  389. write down his messages

  390. say the same exact thing in consistency

  391. for us to be able to follow and to know

  392. what to do and what not to do

  393. when you read

  394. chapters like Leviticus chapter 18.

    Leviticus 18 chapter mention

  395. if you haven't read that one in a while

  396. that that talks about a whole lot of

  397. these other situations that the

  398. Israelites were trying out

  399. and God as he saw these things said we

  400. need to talk about this

  401. and Leviticus 18 might make you blush a

  402. little bit when you read it

  403. because it's a pretty intense chapter

  404. and yet this is God sharing with his

  405. people the Israelites what they need to

  406. be doing and what they need to not be

  407. doing as well

  408. you see because there's a there is a way

  409. where we can sin in relationships we see

  410. this with Joseph

  411. remember with Joseph and Mrs potiphar

  412. Mrs potiphar tries to seduce Joseph and

  413. Joseph says this he says how could I do

  414. this thing and sin against God

  415. so we have to acknowledge that there

  416. there is wrong and right in this

  417. scenario about relationships and

  418. sexuality

  419. and God clears this up very and in my

  420. opinion

  421. with such Clarity that it's hard to hard

  422. to come up with a reason to justify it

  423. Leviticus chapter 18 Romans chapter 1

Leviticus 18 chapter mention Romans 1 chapter mention

  424. first Timothy chapter 1.

    1 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  425. God is consistent and clear that we will

  426. feel the blessings of Heaven

  427. in a husband and wife relationship that

  428. you cannot have in any other Arrangement

  429. on this planet

  430. and he wants that for you because he

  431. wants you to enjoy the blessings that go

  432. along with that

  433. regardless if it's faithfulness within a

  434. marriage or one of the other

  435. combinations described in Leviticus or

  436. Romans

  437. God calls each one of us

  438. to follow him 100 percent

  439. no matter what our situation is

  440. maybe we can have an afternoon seminar

  441. on this I know there's a lot of

  442. questions on this topic and we could

  443. probably talk extensively but maybe some

  444. Sabbath afternoon we can have a a

  445. special

  446. seminar in the afternoon where we have

  447. questions and answers and go over some

  448. of these topics because these are these

  449. are important things for us to to talk

  450. about and to understand from the

  451. scriptural perspective in today's

  452. society and culture

  453. these are huge for us to be able to to

  454. understand and in fact

  455. um

  456. Pastor Mark Finley who's one of my

  457. favorite speakers

  458. tackled this topic on his YouTube

  459. channel about a month ago four weeks ago

  460. and it's right there in the top middle

  461. and he discusses the uh the topic of

  462. sexuality from a Biblical perspective

  463. it's one of the best presentations I've

  464. ever seen on this biblical

  465. grace-filled truth-filled and if you

  466. have time this afternoon go and take a

  467. look it's on his YouTube channel which

  468. are right at the top it's called hope

  469. lives 365. and like I said it's one of

  470. the most

  471. well presented

  472. studies on this topic that I have ever

  473. seen it also happens to be the official

  474. stance of The Seventh-Day Adventist

  475. Church which is one of the reasons I'm a

  476. Seventh-Day Adventist because I feel

  477. that this denomination has a

  478. scripturally faithful approach to this

  479. topic

  480. I don't think that outside of this and

  481. and what Pastor Finley talks about in

  482. this video you could be scripturally

  483. faithful

  484. with a different view on this it just

  485. isn't backed up by scripture

  486. in this topic of course we have to have

  487. the love of Jesus Christ in our hearts

  488. when we talk about this and have a

  489. Redemptive approach which Pastor Finley

  490. totally does in this video if you don't

  491. have time today find time tomorrow to go

  492. watch this video it is extremely

  493. relevant for uh for the discussions

  494. today on this topic

  495. now let's jump back into our Bible story

  496. in the Book of Genesis we see that God

  497. created a male and female but we Rewind

  498. by fast forwarding because we see here

  499. in Genesis chapter 2 we come to a part

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  500. of the story where Eve has not been

  501. created yet

  502. and in Chapter 2 Verse 18

  503. it says in the Lord God said it is not

  504. good that man should be alone I will

  505. make him a helper comparable to him

  506. out of the ground the Lord God formed

  507. every beast of the field and every bird

  508. of the air and brought them to Adam to

  509. see what he would call them isn't that

  510. awesome Adam got to name everything

  511. there was like basically an animal

  512. Parade that came right in front of Adam

  513. and he was like giraffe

  514. monkey

  515. iguana I mean how cool is that he got to

  516. name everything

  517. verse 19 it says out of the ground the

  518. Lord formed everything Adam called every

  519. down to the bottom of verse 19 and

  520. whatever Adam

  521. excuse me Adam called every living

  522. creature that was its name verse 20. So

  523. Adam gave names to all the cattle the

  524. birds of the air into every beast of the

  525. field

  526. but for Adam there was not a found a

  527. helper comparable to him as Adam watched

  528. all the animals come he saw Mr and Mrs

  529. orangutan

  530. he saw Mr and Mrs elephant come by

  531. he saw Mr and Mrs blue whale come by

  532. and as he noticed this pattern he

  533. noticed there was a Mr and a missus for

  534. everything except for him he was sitting

  535. there and he was like

  536. man

  537. where's my helper

  538. and the Bible says

  539. in verse 21 and the Lord God caused a

  540. deep sleep to fall on Adam and he slept

  541. and he took one of his ribs and closed

  542. up the Flesh in its place

  543. then the rib which the Lord God had

  544. taken from man he made into a woman and

  545. he brought her before the man now I've

  546. got questions about this whole thing

  547. taking a rib

  548. how did God form her from this rib

  549. I wish I could have watched just to see

  550. how God did this

  551. but the long story short and there's a

  552. whole lot of different elements we can

  553. look at and hear God created a companion

  554. comparable to Adam

  555. comparable but different

  556. they didn't have the same of everything

  557. personality viewpoints on anything God

  558. made them comparable but complementary

  559. and that first introduction must have

  560. been amazing because this is the first

  561. that Eve has ever existed Adam's been

  562. naming animals and things Eve hasn't

  563. existed up until this point this is all

  564. new for her Adam has been looking for a

  565. partner

  566. he wakes up from anesthesia

  567. he looks up eyes open and he sees the

  568. most beautiful woman in the world

  569. she's also the only woman in the world

  570. Eve comes into existence

  571. and she must look around and be like

  572. where am I and who am I

  573. and who is this handsome guy

  574. and Jesus is there to introduce the two

  575. of them what was that introduction like

  576. Adam this is Eve Eve this is Adam this

  577. is your home that you'll be living in

  578. I can't help but think that they

  579. probably broke out into maybe a little

  580. bit of a goofy grid

  581. do you remember when you hung out with

  582. your spouse if you're married for the

  583. first time

  584. and you had a little bit of that kind of

  585. giddy feeling you were kind of like ooh

  586. all right I'm not sure if they like me

  587. or not I mean Sparks seemed to be kind

  588. of flying a little bit and wow they're

  589. really good looking and all these

  590. different things are going through your

  591. mind

  592. it must have been something a little bit

  593. like that for Adam and Eve that kind of

  594. just that giddiness

  595. that we experience and it's a little

  596. it's a little risky too you're never

  597. quite sure uh if it's going to be

  598. respond this is this is a first meeting

  599. I can remember back

  600. when my wife Aaron and I had first

  601. started kind of liking each other we

  602. hadn't held hands yet

  603. and if you've ever been the first one to

  604. reach over and hold their hand it's

  605. terrifying

  606. it's extreme extremely scary

  607. and likely if you're to that point

  608. already it's probably going to go well

  609. but you never know in the back of your

  610. mind if you reach over and make make the

  611. grab you know you might think like what

  612. if they just like recoil and be like

  613. what are you doing

  614. you're like uh nothing I just uh saw a

  615. mosquito on your hand sorry and what do

  616. you say

  617. it's scary to try that out and so Aaron

  618. and I were walking I thought all right I

  619. think we're ready uh I'm ready I'm ready

  620. to hold her hand I don't know if she's

  621. ready but you know you got to build up

  622. your confidence to try and and be bold

  623. and make that move it's a little

  624. nerve-wracking got the butterflies in

  625. your stomach and finally I had the

  626. courage we were walking next to each

  627. other from Southern Village over to the

  628. University Church

  629. for vespers

  630. and I thought man I've got to do this

  631. soon because we're almost there and then

  632. it's gonna be too late

  633. and so I was like

  634. okay

  635. gotta get yourself mentally prepared for

  636. this and finally you're walking trying

  637. to play it cool and you're like but

  638. inside you're just tore up right because

  639. you're just so worried about it and

  640. finally you reach over and make the grab

  641. your hands touch and you're like okay

  642. she didn't pull back she didn't pull

  643. away okay her fingers are coming in okay

  644. we're good whoo

  645. but but you don't even like make a look

  646. and be like we good we could say that

  647. you can't say that you just kind of have

  648. to play it off cool just kind of kind of

  649. have to walk like oh yeah no problem no

  650. big deal nope you can't say anything but

  651. it's terrifying but those emotions that

  652. that you felt there had to be a little

  653. bit of that giddiness with Adam and Eve

  654. as they look at each other like wow wow

  655. and Jesus is like guys this is your home

  656. this is your husband

  657. this is your wife

  658. what a moment that must have been

  659. marriage

  660. it's an interesting thing to look at and

  661. you may have been married for a while

  662. now

  663. and you might be tempted from time to

  664. time to think that your marriage was a

  665. disappointment

  666. because in every marriage there's

  667. conflict

  668. there are differences of opinions every

  669. pre-marital counseling session that I go

  670. through with kids I talk to them that

  671. they're getting married I tell them I

  672. say look you are joining two families

  673. together

  674. this family has its traditions and this

  675. family has its Traditions you like doing

  676. things this way you like doing things

  677. this way

  678. what are you going to do when you're

  679. together in a home how are you going to

  680. use your toothpaste

  681. how are you going to put the milk away

  682. in the fridge

  683. because really when we all look at

  684. ourselves we think well my way is

  685. obviously the best

  686. every single one of us think our way is

  687. the best right

  688. but unless there is flexibility

  689. in a marriage there's going to be

  690. endless conflicts I always tell young

  691. couples I say unless you're able to bend

  692. a little bit you're going to break

  693. because there are little little things

  694. that you have to adjust in a marriage

  695. and those things those small little

  696. things like toothpaste can become like

  697. nuclear bombs in a marriage

  698. and sometimes those things can frustrate

  699. and we can be tempted to think maybe

  700. this has been a mistake

  701. you might look at them while they're

  702. sleeping in bed

  703. with their CPAP machine on

  704. for their mouth guard to keep them from

  705. snoring or maybe they're just laying

  706. there snoring and you're like this is

  707. not what we were like when we were

  708. dating

  709. what happened

  710. what happened they might look at you the

  711. same way when you sleep though too so

  712. it's all fair right

  713. but you may come to a point in your

  714. marriage where you're like man what is

  715. it's been a while but we're having

  716. problems

  717. it's not the same as it used to be

  718. friends

  719. marriage is hard work

  720. you have to put time and energy into

  721. your marriage if it's going to last and

  722. be happy you have to invest that time

  723. you have to learn to be humble but the

  724. most important thing is you have to

  725. learn to be close to Jesus

  726. and if you practice treating other

  727. people like Jesus treated them and you

  728. treat your spouse like Jesus treated

  729. people your home is going to be a whole

  730. lot happier

  731. there's a couple of

  732. a couple of quotes I want to share with

  733. you from one of my favorite authors she

  734. says this

  735. the Divine love emanating from Christ

  736. never destroys human love but includes

  737. it

  738. buy it human love is refined and

  739. purified elevated and ennobled human

  740. love can never bear its precious fruit

  741. until it is united with the divine

  742. nature and trained to grow heavenward

  743. look at this last part

  744. Jesus wants to see happy marriages

  745. nobody is cheering for your marriage

  746. more than Jesus

  747. and she continues God wants the home to

  748. be the happiest place on Earth let me

  749. stop there for just a second if your

  750. home isn't the happiest place on earth

  751. I want this to be your challenge for

  752. this week

  753. to sit down with your spouse

  754. and talk about what needs to happen in

  755. order for your home to be the happiest

  756. place on earth

  757. that should be our goal and it may take

  758. a little bit of molding on both sides a

  759. little bit of humility a little bit of

  760. bending and flexibility to get there

  761. but this is what God wants for your

  762. marriage he wants your home to be the

  763. happiest place on earth

  764. oh I forgot to finish it the very symbol

  765. of the home in heaven bearing the

  766. marriage responsibilities in the home

  767. linking their interests with Jesus

  768. Christ leaning upon his arm and his

  769. Assurance husband and wife may share a

  770. happiness in this Union that the angels

  771. of God commit later on in chapter 15 she

  772. says be as true as steel to your

  773. marriage vows

  774. refusing in thought word or deed to

  775. spoil your record as a person who fears

  776. God or honors God and obeys his

  777. Commandments

  778. in chapter 14 there's a really good part

  779. in here as well marriage a union for

  780. life is a symbol of the Union between

  781. Christ and his church

  782. the spirit that Christ manifests towards

  783. his church is the spirit that the

  784. husband and the wife are to manifest

  785. towards each other

  786. if they love God supremely they will

  787. love each other in the Lord ever

  788. treating each other courteously I want

  789. to stop right there and I underline that

  790. part

  791. it's easy to not speak courteously to

  792. your spouse

  793. when there's a disagreement

  794. one of the easiest things to do is to

  795. say the most hurtful thing to the person

  796. you love the most in order to be right

  797. what if in all of our homes everything

  798. we said was courteous and kind how would

  799. that help your home be happier

  800. you would see it results immediately

  801. she continues drawing in even chords in

  802. their mutual self-denial and

  803. self-sacrifice they will be a blessing

  804. to each other

  805. this is a picture

  806. of two people that I loved with all of

  807. my heart this is my grandfather and my

  808. grandmother on my mom's side

  809. and they were married for 62 years

  810. 62 years

  811. and I heard different stories throughout

  812. my life of their courtship and what

  813. happened I can remember

  814. my grandmother cute little petite Nana

  815. not on pop is what I called him she was

  816. about this tall

  817. and they were originally from Milwaukee

  818. Wisconsin and she told me I heard this

  819. story many many times when they were in

  820. I believe it was Middle School

  821. they knew each other and she had a crush

  822. on my grandfather

  823. thought he was handsome the most

  824. handsome guy

  825. and they were all a pack of them walking

  826. home from school one day they lived in

  827. the same area

  828. and she said to me she said Jamie we

  829. were walking one time and one time his

  830. hand touched my hand when we were

  831. walking he didn't even mean to I know he

  832. didn't mean to

  833. he was just walking

  834. she felt his hand touched her she said I

  835. didn't sleep for a couple of nights

  836. after that

  837. oh I just said he touched my hand it was

  838. so fun to hear her tell this story

  839. he also later on in life they they

  840. reconnected later he served in World War

  841. II in Europe

  842. and she knew he was deployed and she

  843. decided to write him a letter they

  844. weren't dating or anything she wrote him

  845. a letter that God delivered to his

  846. Foxhole where he was in Germany sitting

  847. in there with his buddy and the letter

  848. came in from Milwaukee Wisconsin from

  849. Florence my grandmother

  850. and she wrote him just a real nice

  851. letter hope everything's going well stay

  852. safe blah blah nothing really juicy or

  853. romantic or anything but just uh hey

  854. you know just I I care about what you're

  855. doing and and best wishes and stay safe

  856. he said to me I heard him tell this

  857. story many times too he he looked at his

  858. buddy in the in the Foxhole right next

  859. to him he took that paper the letter and

  860. he went I'm going to marry that girl

  861. and he came back from the war and he

  862. married my grandmother Florence uh there

  863. in Wisconsin

  864. and they were married for 62 years they

  865. had two daughters one of them is my mom

  866. and the two daughters each had two boys

  867. so my grandfather didn't have any sons

  868. but he had four grandsons and so all

  869. four of us grandsons hung out with him

  870. all the time he loved cars consequently

  871. I love cars because we hung out at car

  872. lots all the time there were car

  873. magazines everywhere and my grandfather

  874. and I were best friends we hung out all

  875. the time

  876. and I remember looking at their life

  877. after they'd both passed away

  878. looking at their life

  879. and thinking to myself

  880. God blessed this marriage

  881. just like it says in the very beginning

  882. God blessed them with two daughters that

  883. they loved with all their heart

  884. they invested their time and their

  885. resources in raising these girls taught

  886. them both about God

  887. and they loved the memories I still get

  888. pictures from my mom of back in the 60s

  889. and 70s when they were together and and

  890. doing family stuff and I see this and I

  891. see this is this is the blessing that

  892. God was talking about

  893. in the marriage relationship and then

  894. and then the grandkids and the great

  895. grandkids and we'd all get together and

  896. we'd play Rook anybody else play Rook

  897. like our family plays Rook for real like

  898. for serious and if you think Rook low is

  899. the way to play Rook you're wrong it's

  900. Rook High

  901. you gotta play Rook High

  902. we play Rook all the time we have so

  903. many fun memories of our family

  904. spending time together

  905. and I think that's a little bit of what

  906. God is talking about in the beginning of

  907. Genesis when he says be fruitful and

  908. multiply and in this is a blessing

  909. this is a blessing that God intended for

  910. us as humans to be able to enjoy

  911. as we live out our time here on Earth

  912. I'm so glad that God

  913. created families

  914. I'm so glad that God set this up so that

  915. we could enjoy the blessing

  916. of marriage and children

  917. grandparents grandkids sisters brothers

  918. those are all blessings

  919. from God

  920. and you might say

  921. well Jamie

  922. maybe I haven't been the best husband or

  923. wife or maybe I've lived a life that has

  924. been outside

  925. of these Garden of Eden

  926. guidelines instructions from God

  927. maybe I haven't lived my life in the

  928. best way that I possibly could

  929. I want to remind you today that God is a

  930. gracious God

  931. will take care of your past

  932. when you confess those sins to him and

  933. he will make sure that your future is

  934. full of blessings

  935. it's one of the most beautiful things

  936. about God

  937. the devil likes to try and remind us of

  938. our shortcomings where we make mistakes

  939. where we haven't done the best

  940. but God is a God who reminds us of our

  941. future and how he will be with us every

  942. step of the way and give us a fresh

  943. start

  944. God gave us these guidelines in

  945. scripture so that we could experience

  946. the most happiness that we possibly

  947. could well in this life

  948. that's why God gives us instructions in

  949. the Bible

  950. he doesn't give us instructions to limit

  951. us

  952. he gives us instructions

  953. so that we can explore and and enjoy

  954. life to the absolute fullest

  955. while we're here on Earth
