  16. For three years, I worked in the Rocky

  17. Mountain Conference um as a student

  18. evangelism coordinator training kids to

  19. do mission trips and to preach full

  20. evangelistic series all over the world.

  21. and I worked withmies, public schools,

  22. homeschool kids. Um, really enjoyed

  23. working with these young people and I've

  24. I've led out on more mission trips than

  25. I can count. And working with teenagers

  26. is a lot of fun. And one rule that I

  27. have for all of my mission trips is that

  28. there's no dating on the mission trips.

  29. If you're dating before the mission

  30. trip, that's fine. just please don't

  31. date on my mission trip and let's not

  32. have any couples on the mission trip.

  33. Just kind of pause the relationship, be

  34. friends, hang out, but but no

  35. relationships on the mission trip. That

  36. makes sense, right? Because I really

  37. don't want to have to be dealing with

  38. that on mission trip stuff. I mean,

  39. great place to meet somebody, but uh

  40. that's kind of the hard and fast rule

  41. for my mission trips. No dating on

  42. mission trips. So, we went through the

  43. whole there was only one couple on this

  44. particular mission trip to uh Costa

  45. Rica. There was one couple that were

  46. dating, super nice young people, and

  47. they, you know, I I made it general, so

  48. I didn't, you know, point them out, but

  49. I just said, "Hey, no dating on the

  50. mission trip." Right. Okay. So, we get

  51. down to Costa Rica and we have iPads

  52. that the kids all use for the

  53. presentations in the evenings. We work

  54. on building sites in the mornings. We

  55. have a couple hours in the afternoon

  56. that are free and then they can use

  57. those to work on their presentations in

  58. the evening. And then in the evenings,

  59. we're out in all these different

  60. villages doing our meetings.

  61. Well, one afternoon, and all of the

  62. iPads are linked to my iPad's account,

  63. by the way.

  64. One afternoon, my iPad pings. I see a

  65. notification on my iPad. I open it up,

  66. and there's a really nice picture of

  67. this couple, very close, not much room

  68. for the Holy Spirit between these two.

  69. And she's giving him a big wet kiss on

  70. the cheek. And I was like, "Oh, this is

  71. a little bit more than I had anticipated

  72. us having on this mission trip as far as

  73. relationships go." I thought, "Okay,

  74. well, they have no idea that I saw this,

  75. but I'm going to have to go and talk to

  76. them." So, I screenshotted it on my

  77. phone and went to go look for him

  78. because they're like, "I got to have a

  79. chat with them. We can't, you know, they

  80. got to cool their jets a little bit."

  81. So, I went and found him. They had

  82. separate. He'd gone over by the boys and

  83. she was hanging with the girls. And I

  84. went and found her. I said, "Hey, can I

  85. talk to you for just a second?" She

  86. said, "Sure." So, she comes over and uh

  87. I said, 'Hey, you and so and so, you

  88. guys been keeping things, you know,

  89. kosher on the trip here? Everything's

  90. been like we talked about. Oh, yeah,

  91. Pastor Jamie. Yeah. No, we haven't. I

  92. said, "Nothing at all." "No, no, no,

  93. no." And I I said, "Oh, you want to tell

  94. me a little bit about this picture right

  95. here?" And I showed her the picture of

  96. her kissing him on the cheek. Awfully

  97. close.

  98. And she she kind of blushes a little bit

  99. and she says, "Oh, I'm so sorry, Pastor

  100. Jamie. That won't happen again. We uh we

  101. I didn't know you were going to see

  102. this. I was like, "Yeah, I bet you

  103. didn't."

  104. She's uh so sorry it won't happen again.

  105. You could see just guilt all over her

  106. face as soon as she saw that I had the

  107. picture. She just like she said, "It

  108. won't happen again. Won't happen." "All

  109. right, just make sure it doesn't happen

  110. again. You're fine. Don't worry about

  111. it. Just just don't do it again." Okay.

  112. So, I was like, "I got to go find the

  113. boy." So, I went and found him. He was

  114. with his buddies. I say, "Come here for

  115. a minute." I can't kind of gave him the

  116. same the same spiel. See, you guys been

  117. I led him a little bit. You haven't been

  118. doing it. Oh, no. No, Pastor Jamie. I

  119. did the same thing I showed him. tell me

  120. about this picture. There he is getting

  121. a wet one right on the cheek. And his

  122. face goes couldn't believe I had it and

  123. embarrassed and he says, "Uh, I'm so

  124. sorry, Pastor Jamie. It won't happen

  125. again. We're going to keep it no more

  126. pictures. No more we we'll keep it real

  127. kosher the whole rest of the trip." I

  128. appreciate it. Thank you very much. But

  129. the guilt on their faces, as soon as I

  130. showed them the picture that they were

  131. denying,

  132. the look on their face was just shock,

  133. like we're busted.

  134. Nobody likes to feel guilt.

  135. We've all felt guilt at some point.

  136. Maybe when you were a kid and your mom

  137. was baking some cookies or something and

  138. she said, "Don't touch the cookies.

  139. They're for later." And you had a weak

  140. moment and you had some cookie. You

  141. remember the guilt that you felt with

  142. that or whatever your parents told you

  143. not to do and you did it anyways. You

  144. remember the guilt? It kind of bothered

  145. you and you were like, "Shouldn't have

  146. done it. I might get caught. I might not

  147. get caught." But the thought of maybe

  148. getting caught was bothering you and

  149. your conscience was there like I

  150. shouldn't have done it. You know the

  151. feel of guilt and it's and it's kind of

  152. in the pity of your stomach.

  153. That's where we pick up with the story

  154. of David dealing with guilt

  155. because of some actions that he's taken.

  156. Right now in the story of David, we're

  157. jumping into 2 Samuel chapter 11. Things

    2 Samuel 11 chapter mention

  158. are good for David right now.

  159. David has had a lot of success. If you

  160. look in chapter 10, just at the at the

  161. end of chapter 10 before we go into

  162. chapter 11, he's been out to battle.

  163. There's multiple kings that he's

  164. conquered, which now means that they pay

  165. tribute to him. So, he's got income

  166. coming in probably in addition to taking

  167. whatever that he wanted from them. We

  168. see in the next chapter over the end of

  169. chapter 12 that he has a David gets the

  170. crown of a king that he conquered that

  171. has tons of jewels on it. It's super

  172. heavy. He's getting all kinds of income.

  173. His arm is doing well. Judah and Israel

  174. are together. Things are great for

  175. David.

  176. When they're out to battle, he says,

  177. "You know what, Joab? You take the guys.

  178. I'm going to go ahead and stay here in

  179. the palace."

  180. That's where we find him in chapter 11.

  181. It happened in the spring of the year at

  182. the time when the kings go to battle

  183. that David sent Joab and his servants

  184. with him and all of Israel and they

  185. destroyed the people of Ammon and

  186. besieged Rabba. But David stayed at

  187. Jerusalem. It says in the springtime

  188. when kings went to battle, why did they

  189. go to battle in springtime? In the

  190. winter time, the weather was terrible.

  191. Rainy, muddy roads, and they had to have

  192. good roads to take all the supplies out

  193. to the armies, the weather was terrible.

  194. They didn't want to be camping out in

  195. the rain in the cold rain. And it snows

  196. at this in this area. Remember, one of

  197. David's mighty men killed a lion in a

  198. snowy pit, remember? So, it snows there.

  199. And so basically, it was so hard to to

  200. provide supplies for an army and nobody

  201. likes the weather that everybody kind of

  202. agreed that they're going to be fair

  203. weather fighters and they're only going

  204. to fight when the weather's good. So

  205. that's why it says in the time when they

  206. would go to fight in the springtime when

  207. the weather's better. But David remained

  208. in Jerusalem.

  209. And it happened one evening that David

  210. arose from his bed and walked on the

  211. roof of the king's house. And from the

  212. roof, he saw a woman. Her name ends up

  213. being Ba Sheeba.

  214. She's likely the granddaughter of a of

  215. an advisor of David. She's probably from

  216. a known family, a beautiful woman. And

  217. she's married to Uriah the Hitittite,

  218. not Uriah the Israelite. Uriah the

  219. Hittite, which tells us that Uriah was a

  220. convert to the worship of the God of

  221. heaven. The Hittite capital was a place

  222. called Hatushia, which is in central

  223. Turkey. I've been to Hatushia before.

  224. Beautiful, beautiful place. You'll see

  225. uh sheep herders with their Anatolian

  226. shepherds out there guarding the sheep.

  227. It's the ruins of the of the Hittite

  228. capital Husha are still there today.

  229. Beautiful, beautiful place. Central

  230. Turkey. That's where Uriah the Hitittite

  231. is from. But Uriah's a convert to the to

  232. worship of the God of heaven.

  233. Uriah is out fighting.

  234. Ba Sheba's at home. David sees Ba'ath

  235. Sheba

  236. and he allows his mind to wander.

  237. I'm not going to go into all the

  238. details,

  239. but David gets a message

  240. and she says that she's conceived.

  241. She says to David through a message, I

  242. am with child.

  243. Now, David,

  244. David had an option when he was up on

  245. the rooftop. Actually, had two options.

  246. He could allow his mind to wander, his

  247. eye to stay where he was looking, or he

  248. could have looked away. How much better

  249. would it have been if he looked away?

  250. How much heartache and pain could he

  251. have avoided for a lot of people if he

  252. had just looked away?

  253. We find that he's in in a in a life in a

  254. life stage where it's peaceful. He

  255. doesn't have anything going on. It's a

  256. little bit of leisure.

  257. Everything is good. And his guard seems

  258. to be down here.

  259. And for us, we experience all kinds of

  260. different temptations. Maybe some of the

  261. same as as David, maybe some different

  262. than David.

  263. The devil tempts us in ways where we're

  264. weak.

  265. But one way that we can help fight

  266. against temptation is to keep our mind

  267. focused on God

  268. and not allow our mind to wander onto

  269. the different temptations that the devil

  270. puts in our path. David

  271. could have turned away and gone back to

  272. bed,

  273. but he didn't. And now he gets this

  274. message that completely turns him upside

  275. down because really by Levitical law he

  276. could be put to death for this. That's a

  277. very real possibility. If word spreads

  278. if Uriah gets back, Uriah could make a

  279. case for the death of David.

  280. So David's in a pickle now. And this is

  281. just like sin. Once you make a mistake,

  282. if you try and hide it or cover up,

  283. you've got to make another mistake to

  284. cover that mistake. Then you got to make

  285. another one to cover that one. And it's

  286. this slippery slope that goes downhill.

  287. And that's exactly where David finds

  288. himself.

  289. Patriarchs and Prophets page 717 and

  290. 7:18. It says, "It is impossible for us

  291. in our own strength to maintain the

  292. conflict. And whatever diverts the mind

  293. from God, whatever leads to

  294. self-exaltation or to self-dependence is

  295. surely preparing the way for our

  296. overthrow." The tenor of the Bible is to

  297. inculcate distrust of human power and

  298. encourage trust in divine power. It was

  299. the spirit of self-confidence and

  300. self-exaltation that prepared the way

  301. for David's fall. David was surrounded

  302. by the fruits of victory and the honors

  303. of the w of his wise and able rule. It

  304. was now while he was at ease and

  305. unguarded that the tempter seized

  306. opportunity to occupy his mind. That

  307. last part caught me when I read this.

  308. The devil occupied his mind. If your

  309. mind is already filled with godly

  310. things, there's no room for the devil to

  311. occupy your mind. If we keep our minds

  312. set on things above, there's no room for

  313. those temptations to stick around.

  314. And this downtime, this ease allowed for

  315. the devil to access his mind and to

  316. occupy his mind. She says,

  317. "Now, David hatches a plan to try and

  318. cover everything up so nobody knows."

  319. Verse six says, "David sent to Joab,

  320. saying, "Send me Uriah the Hitittite,

  321. and Joab sent Uriah to David." When

  322. Uriah had come to him, David asked how

  323. Joab was doing, how the people were

  324. doing, how the war prospered. Can you

  325. imagine how awkward that conversation

  326. would have been?

  327. David is sitting down talking to a man

  328. he has wronged

  329. and playing it off like there's nothing

  330. going on. Uriah must have thought, "Why

  331. is he calling me and asking me for a

  332. report? I'm not Joab. You want me to

  333. tell you how Joab's doing? This is such

  334. a weird conversation.

  335. How the war is going?" Okay.

  336. Verse 8, David had a plan. He says, "Go

  337. down to your house, wash your feet." So

  338. Uriah departed from the king's house,

  339. and a gift of food from the king

  340. followed him. But Uriah slept at the

  341. door of the king's house with all the

  342. servants of his lord and did not go down

  343. to his house.

  344. This was David's plan to cover things

  345. up.

  346. So when they told David, saying Uriah

  347. did not go down to his house, he's got

  348. spies watching Uriah,

  349. letting him know where he's at, hoping

  350. that he goes home.

  351. David calls Uriah back and says, "Did

  352. you not come from a long journey? Why

  353. didn't you go down to your house?" Can

  354. you can you sense the desperation in

  355. David's voice here?

  356. Why didn't you go home? You should have

  357. gone home. Why aren't you home?

  358. His plan is unraveling.

  359. Here's what Uriah says. This really

  360. makes me like Uriah. He's a good guy, I

  361. think. He says to David, "The ark and

  362. Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents,

  363. and my lord Joab and the servants of my

  364. Lord are encamped in open fields. Shall

  365. I then go into my house and eat and

  366. drink and lie with my wife? as you live

  367. and as your soul lives, I will not do

  368. this thing. Can you imagine David's face

  369. when he hears those words?

  370. Then David said to Uriah, "Wait here

  371. today also, and tomorrow I will let you

  372. depart." So Uriah remained in Jerusalem

  373. that day and the next. But David's not

  374. done yet. He still has one last ditch

  375. effort to try and get Uriah to go home.

  376. Verse 13 says, "Now when David called

  377. him, he ate and drank before him, and he

  378. made him drunk. And at evening he went

  379. out to lie on his bed with the servants

  380. of the Lord. But he did not go down to

  381. his house.

  382. I find it fascinating that there's

  383. alcohol on tap in David's house,

  384. readily available right there.

  385. And that he would use alcohol to try and

  386. get Uriah to get drunk to compromise

  387. Uriah's convictions.

  388. I think that is one of the best things

  389. that alcohol does is compromise people's

  390. convictions.

  391. Alcohol has ruined more people's lives

  392. than maybe anything else on the planet.

  393. And some people might say, well, see,

  394. David had alcohol there and he's, you

  395. know, a good guy in the Bible. So then

  396. maybe alcohol is not a big deal. Today

  397. in today's society, secular society for

  398. sure, but even in Christian and 7th Day

  399. Adventist circles, alcohol is is kind of

  400. given given a pass as not that big of a

  401. deal.

  402. I can't find anywhere in the Bible where

  403. it's like two thumbs up for alcohol.

  404. People say, "Well, you know, what about

  405. Paul?" He didn't say that that the the

  406. alcohol was good for your stomach. It's

  407. the grape that's good for your stomach.

  408. If you want to look at more on this, I

  409. have a video on my YouTube channel,

  410. 8:32, and the the topic of the video is,

  411. "Will there be alcohol in heaven?"

  412. That's a question we should ask, right?

  413. Will there be booze in heaven after

  414. choir practice with the angels? Can you

  415. have a Miller Light?

  416. Well, okay. Was there alcohol in the

  417. Garden of Eden? Absolutely not. Because

  418. the fermentation process means that

  419. there has to be breakdown. Um, and and

  420. here I'll I'll read it to you exactly

  421. what happens. Decomposition in order for

  422. fermentation to to happen is the process

  423. by which dead what word did I say?

  424. >> Dead organic substances are broken down

  425. into simpler organic or inorganic matter

  426. such as carbon dioxide, water, simple

  427. sugars, and mineral salts. Was there

  428. anything dead in the Garden of Eden?

  429. Will there be anything dead in heaven?

  430. No. If you read one of the best verses

  431. in the Bible is Revelation 21:4. It

    Revelation 21:4

  432. says, "There will be no more death in

  433. heaven." Now, we look at that, we're

  434. like, "Amazing. No more human death.

  435. That's the best news ever. We're never

  436. going to die. Our loved ones are never

  437. going to die. But it it doesn't just

  438. mean us.

  439. There is nothing that's going to die in

  440. heaven, which means that nothing can

  441. ferment in heaven, which means there's

  442. no booze in heaven. Nobody's going to be

  443. drinking alcohol in heaven.

  444. And as we prepare to be citizens of

  445. heaven, doesn't it make sense that we

  446. prepare for that lifestyle right now?

  447. It's not like God's trying to keep us

  448. from having fun. God's trying to help us

  449. avoid trouble.

  450. He's He's trying to help us have clear

  451. minds so that we can delineate between

  452. temptation and truth. That's why God

  453. repeatedly says, "Don't be drunk. Don't

  454. be drinking alcohol." That's why there

  455. won't be booze in heaven.

  456. It's not because God's trying to

  457. withhold something from us. It's God

  458. trying to help us and prepare us to be

  459. citizens of heaven.

  460. And here, David uses alcohol to try and

  461. get Uriah to compromise.

  462. That doesn't work. He doesn't go home.

  463. So, David resorts to murder. He writes a

  464. letter telling Joab to put Uriah at the

  465. hottest point of the battle where for

  466. sure he's going to die. He says, ' And I

  467. want you to pull back to make sure this

  468. guy dies. He seals the letter and hands

  469. it to Uriah himself.

  470. Says, "Give this letter to Joab." It's

  471. his own death sentence. And you look at

  472. this and you're like, "How could David

  473. David who wouldn't touch Saul's a hair

  474. on his head

  475. stoop this low?"

  476. Now he's covering his own sin,

  477. doing anything, adding sin to sin.

  478. And that's exactly what happens.

  479. Joab

  480. partners with David in this crime.

  481. Joab can't just be like, "Well, I was

  482. just following orders." That doesn't

  483. work here. Joab participates in this

  484. murder. And it says multiple people

  485. died. It says some of the people of the

  486. servants of David fell and Uriah the

  487. Hitittite died also. More than just

  488. Uriah died. Several other soldiers died

  489. there for David's cover up.

  490. Verse 26, it says, "When the wife of

  491. Uriah heard that Uriah her husband, was

  492. dead, she mourned for her husband." That

  493. would be a 7-day mourning period. And

  494. when her morning was over, David sent

  495. and brought her to his house, and she

  496. became his wife and bore him a son.

  497. But the thing that David had done

  498. displeased the Lord. It says

  499. David thought he was getting away with

  500. all this stuff and hiding all this

  501. stuff, but God saw it all. And it's not

  502. that God's just waiting for us to mess

  503. up. It's God looking at and saying,

  504. "What are you doing? You're hurting

  505. yourself.

  506. Stop hurting other people and hurting

  507. yourself." That's what sin is.

  508. But the idea of sin hurting God, which

  509. David talks about a little bit later on

  510. in in uh Psalm 51,

  511. that's really the nature of sin. We sin

  512. and hurt each other. David sinned

  513. against Uriah, but more importantly, he

  514. sinned against God. And and the idea of

  515. sin and how serious it is

  516. kind of hit me aresh as I was reading

  517. through this because it made me think of

  518. the story of Job.

  519. And I remember what God said about Job

  520. to Satan when they were having this

  521. conversation. Remember in Job chapter 1,

    Job 1 chapter mention

  522. I think it is. God said, "Have you

  523. considered my servant Job? Does this

  524. mean that that God and the devil have

  525. conversations about us?"

  526. Surely that happens.

  527. And in those conversations, I hope that

  528. I'm on God's side of the conversation

  529. where God can say, "Have you considered

  530. my servant Jamie?"

  531. as opposed to the opposite side saying,

  532. "Did you see what I got Jamie to do this

  533. week?" and throwing it in God's face.

  534. When I look at it that way, it makes me

  535. really want to be on God's side so I

  536. don't I don't cause him that pain

  537. because sin is against each other as

  538. well. But it's also against God because

  539. God died for our sins.

  540. And when we see sin in that light, it

  541. makes it that much worse and it should

  542. make us not want to partake in that.

  543. Chapter 12,

  544. God sends Nathan the prophet.

  545. And can you imagine God telling Nathan

  546. what he wanted him to go tell David?

  547. That's a tough message. Two people have

  548. died because of the message that they

  549. sent to David. the one that brought the

  550. news of King Saul and the one that

  551. brought the news of Saul's son, the

  552. death. David had both of them executed

  553. because they were celebrating what he

  554. didn't think they should celebrate. So

  555. bringing bringing a bad message to a

  556. king is a pretty dangerous thing. And

  557. Nathan was probably like, "You want me

  558. to say what to David?"

  559. But Nathan was faithful.

  560. And it says in chapter 12, "And he came

  561. to him and said to him, there are,"

  562. she's talking Nathan talking to David.

  563. And he says, "There are two men in one

  564. city, one rich and the other poor. The

  565. rich man had exceedingly many flocks and

  566. herds, but the poor man had nothing

  567. except one little U lamb which he had

  568. brought and bought and nourished and it

  569. grew up together with him and with his

  570. children. And it ate at his own his own

  571. food and drank from his own cup and lay

  572. in his bosom. And it was like a daughter

  573. to it." It paints this picture of this

  574. guy. This guy loved this little lamb.

  575. His kids loved the lamb. It's the only

  576. lamb they had. And a traveler came to

  577. the rich man, verse four, who refused to

  578. take from his own flock and from his own

  579. herd to prepare for one one for the

  580. wayfairing man who had come to him. But

  581. he took the poor man's lamb and prepared

  582. it for the man who had come to him. He's

  583. telling David this story.

  584. Verse 5, David's anger was greatly

  585. aroused at the man. The sense of justice

  586. in David was was strong still even after

  587. he'd messed up.

  588. And David says to Nathan, "As the Lord

  589. lives, the man who has done this shall

  590. surely die,

  591. and he shall restore four-fold for the

  592. lamb because he did this thing and be

  593. and because he had no pity." Then Nathan

  594. says to David some strong words.

  595. He says, "You are that man."

  596. Can you imagine David's face when he

  597. hears from God's prophet the turnaround

  598. on that story and that he's just

  599. sentenced himself

  600. in this story. He goes on verse 9, "Why

  601. have you despised the commandment of the

  602. Lord to do evil in his sight? You have

  603. killed Uriah the Hitittite and with a

  604. sword and have taken his wife to be your

  605. wife and have killed him with the sword

  606. of the people of Ammon." He's confronted

  607. with his sin right there.

  608. And David says to Nathan verse 13, "I

  609. have sinned against the Lord." Here's

  610. the difference between David and Saul.

  611. Saul would push back and excuse what he

  612. did. David, and it sometimes took a

  613. prophet coming to get him straight,

  614. would realize

  615. what he had done was wrong and repent.

  616. Let's turn over to Psalm 51. David

  617. writes Psalm 51 at this time after his

  618. visit from Nathan the prophet. And

  619. there's some highlights in here that

  620. you'll probably find to be familiar

  621. because you've read these before. And it

  622. tells us a little bit about the heart of

  623. David as he's confronted with this sin

  624. and what his response is to this sin.

  625. Chapter 51 verse one, he starts off,

  626. "Have mercy on me, oh God." At the end

  627. of that verse, it says, "Blot out my

  628. transgressions.

  629. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and

  630. cleanse me from my sin. For I

  631. acknowledge my transgression and my sin

  632. is always before me. You know,

  633. basically what he's saying here is that

  634. he's had to deal with guilt since this

  635. happened.

  636. Guilt can be a good thing.

  637. What does guilt do to us? Thoughts from

  638. the Mount of Blessings, page 10. She

  639. says, "God reveals to us our guilt that

  640. we may flee to Christ and through him be

  641. set free from the bondage of sin and

  642. rejoice in the liberty of the sons of

  643. God in true contrition we may come to

  644. the foot of the cross and there leave

  645. our burdens." I love this quote and this

  646. is exactly what can be our story as

  647. well. If we've been carrying burdens

  648. around, if we've been dealing with guilt

  649. in our own lives where the Holy Spirit's

  650. been pricking our conscience and saying,

  651. "You need this to not be a part of your

  652. life. You need to make this right with

  653. God." We have the opportunity to come to

  654. the foot of the cross and ask

  655. forgiveness of God and leave our burdens

  656. there. I like that part.

  657. David here is expressing these burdens

  658. have been be before him constantly. He's

  659. been his conscience has been bothered.

  660. He's been trying to figure this out, but

  661. just adding sin on top of sin.

  662. But Jesus says,

  663. "Come to me all you who are weary and

  664. heavy laden and I will give you rest."

  665. How do we have that rest? When we lay

  666. our burdens down at Jesus' feet

  667. and we leave them there at the foot of

  668. the cross and experience his grace.

  669. That's how we can have true happiness.

  670. David continues

  671. some verses you may find familiar.

  672. Again, verse 7, purge me with hip and I

  673. will be clean. Wash me and I shall be

  674. whiter than snow. This word, this this

  675. phrase is in our closing song in just a

  676. little bit. We've added it to songs

  677. because it's so powerful. Verse 10,

  678. create in me a clean heart, oh God, and

  679. renew a steadfast spirit within me. This

  680. is part of a song as well. Anybody ever

  681. learned this to song before?

  682. Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and

  683. renew a steadfast spirit with me. Do not

  684. cast me away from your presence. Do not

  685. take your holy spirit from me. Restore

  686. to me the joy of your salvation, and

  687. uphold me by your generous spirit. Verse

  688. 14, deliver me from the guilt of

  689. bloodshed, oh God, the God of my

  690. salvation. When David is confronted with

  691. guilt and with sin, he goes to God

  692. and he repents and asks for forgiveness

  693. and a change of heart. He says, "Wash me

  694. and I shall be whiter than snow." A

  695. fresh start is what David is wanting and

  696. needing.

  697. You see,

  698. the devil

  699. likes to portray sin as something that's

  700. desirable. Here in Patriarchs and

  701. Prophets, the author says, "From the

  702. beginning, Satan has portrayed to men

  703. the gains to be won by transgression.

  704. Thus, he seduced the angels. Thus, he

  705. tempted Adam and Eve to sin. And thus,

  706. he is still leading multitudes away from

  707. obedience to God." The path of

  708. transgression is made to appear

  709. desirable. But as Proverbs says, but it

  710. is in the end it is the way of death.

  711. And that's the way of temptation.

  712. Temptation wouldn't be a temptation

  713. unless it looked good, right? Unless we

  714. thought, hey, that might be a viable

  715. option. It was the same way with Adam

  716. and Eve in in the Garden of Eden. The

  717. devil said, "Hey, if you eat this fruit,

  718. you're going to be smarter." Like,

  719. smarter? That sounds good.

  720. That sounds like a positive thing.

  721. If we remain soberminded

  722. and with our noses in the Bible, we will

  723. be able to delineate between what is

  724. desirable and what is true and good for

  725. us.

  726. But I believe it's only when we keep God

  727. before us and our faces towards Jesus

  728. and knowing what the Bible says that we

  729. will know what is true and what is a

  730. temptation. and then we'll be able to

  731. avoid the temptation even better.

  732. When we have times like David, when

  733. we've messed up,

  734. let's look to his example of going back

  735. to God. Maybe maybe don't make it so

  736. that God has to send a Nathan to us,

  737. but go right to him. There's another

  738. quote from Thoughts on the Mount of

  739. Blessings, page eight. I love this

  740. quote.

  741. Where whatever may have been your past

  742. experience, however discouraging your

  743. present circumstance,

  744. if you will come to Jesus just as you

  745. are, weak, helpless, and desparing, our

  746. compassionate savior will meet you a

  747. great way off and will throw around you

  748. his arms of love and his robe of

  749. righteousness. Doesn't this paint just

  750. an incredible picture of Jesus? I love

  751. it. It says, "Our compassionate savior

  752. will meet you a long way off, a great

  753. way off." He's looking for you to come

  754. back to him. His arms are wide open for

  755. you to come back to him. People may

  756. think that that it's it's what you've

  757. done is, "Well, Jesus may not be ready

  758. for me to come back." No, no, no. Jesus

  759. is always ready for you to come back to

  760. him with arms wide open, ready for a

  761. bear hug. Have you ever been away from

  762. somebody for a really long time, maybe

  763. years, somebody you love, and you see

  764. them again, and you give them a huge

  765. hug, and you hold on tight because you

  766. love that person, you've missed that

  767. person. Aren't those hugs the best?

  768. You just hang on, and there's there's

  769. some chemistry that must happen in there

  770. because you're just want to hang on and

  771. there's so much love in that hug.

  772. I love this depiction. Our our

  773. compassionate savior will meet you a

  774. great way off and will throw around you

  775. his arms of love and his robe of

  776. righteousness. No matter what your past

  777. has been, the arms of Jesus are always

  778. open for you to come home.

  779. >> And his grace and forgiveness is greater

  780. than anything you could have had in your

  781. past. If God can forgive David, he can

  782. forgive you and I.

  783. His grace is greater than our sins.

  784. There's a young lady this week on

  785. Wednesday

  786. that has a Tik Tok channel, very

  787. successful one, almost a million

  788. followers,

  789. and

  790. she's been getting slaughtered

  791. in the comments and the vlogs and

  792. everything this week.

  793. Her her Tik Tok channel is called Alex

  794. Reads Tarret and she reads tarot cards,

  795. this tarot readings and promotes

  796. witchcraft on her channel. Very

  797. successful. She's had, like I said,

  798. almost a million followers on her Tik

  799. Tok channel, something like 58 million

  800. likes on her videos.

  801. And she put out a video on Wednesday.

  802. And in her video, she said, "I'm no

  803. longer going to be making videos about

  804. tarot cards and witchcraft."

  805. She said, "In fact, I'm going to be

  806. deleting all my videos that I've made."

  807. She said, "Over the last several months,

  808. this isn't just a snap decision. Over

  809. the last several months, I've felt that

  810. God has been leading me into a

  811. relationship with him.

  812. >> And I'm going to be pursuing that and

  813. following the prompings that I've been

  814. receiving from God and pointing me

  815. towards him.

  816. And I'm going to be changing the

  817. direction of my life.

  818. Within 20 for 48 hours, she lost 30,000

  819. subscribers. And somebody commented on

  820. there said, "Yeah, but you've got

  821. billions of angels cheering you on in

  822. heaven, so that's okay."

  823. She switched sides.

  824. She followed the prompings of the Holy

  825. Spirit to follow the God of heaven and

  826. to give up working for the dark side.

  827. And you know what?

  828. Jesus doesn't care about any of those

  829. videos she used to make.

  830. What Jesus cares about is her future and

  831. where she's going now.

  832. Jesus can wipe her slate clean for all

  833. the bad stuff she's done in the past.

  834. And she's pointed a lot of people to the

  835. adversary.

  836. But you know what? She's got a fresh

  837. life with Jesus now.

  838. And it's as if that stuff didn't even

  839. happen. The Bible says that that it's as

  840. if our sins are thrown in the deepest

  841. part of the ocean. And then it says a

  842. little bit later on that there's no

  843. ocean in heaven. There's no sea in

  844. heaven. Do you ever put those two

  845. together? That means your sins are gone

  846. as if they never even happened.

  847. That's the grace of Jesus. He takes care

  848. of our past and guides us in our future.

  849. And our future with him is the only

  850. thing that matters.

  851. Like David said, "Create in me a clean

  852. heart, oh God." Part of part of this

  853. whole change in life is us realizing

  854. that our sins are hurtful to people, to

  855. ourselves, or to God and sincerely

  856. desiring to change.

  857. And then God's grace and God's power

  858. help us be overcomers

  859. of those old habits and those old sins

  860. and those old temptations.

  861. And God will give us the strength and

  862. the courage to look away when we need

  863. to. to look up when we need to to avoid

  864. those temptations that the devil puts in

  865. our past.

  866. First John 1:9 says, "If you confess

    1 John 1:9

  867. your sins, he is faithful and just to

  868. forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us

  869. from all unrighteousness."

  870. Like it says in Thoughts from the Mount

  871. of Blessing, in true contrition, we may

  872. come to the foot of the cross and leave

  873. our burdens there.

  874. This story is not about David's sins.

  875. This story is about David's forgiveness

  876. and grace

  877. and God taking him

  878. and washing him and making him whiter

  879. than snow.

  880. And God will do the same thing for you

  881. and me. This story of David's fall and

  882. his his resurgence with Jesus, with God

  883. and this forgiveness is our story, too.

  884. And whenever you feel

  885. like you've gone too far, that maybe God

  886. doesn't want you back, I want you to

  887. remember this quote right here from

  888. Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings,

  889. page 8.

  890. Whatever may have been your past

  891. experience,

  892. however discouraging your present

  893. circumstances, if you will come to Jesus

  894. just as you are, weak, helpless, and

  895. desparing,

  896. your compassionate savior will meet you

  897. a great way off and will throw around

  898. you his arms of love and his robe of

  899. righteousness. What a good God. want to

  900. invite our worship uh singers to come up

  901. and and help lead our closing song. And

  902. we quote David in this closing song. And

  903. it's Jesus paid it all. And the words

  904. say, "I hear the Savior say, "Thy

  905. strength indeed is small. Child of

  906. weakness, watch and pray. Find in me

  907. thine all in all." And the chorus goes,

  908. "Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe.

  909. Sin has left a crimson crimson stain."

  910. And here's David's word. He washed it

  911. white as snow. Let's sing together our

  912. closing song. Stand with us.

  913. Father in heaven, thank you for the

  914. story of grace in David's life. Lord,

  915. thank you for the story of grace in our

  916. lives as well. And Lord, may we when we

  917. feel the prick of conscience in our

  918. minds and in our hearts, may we respond

  919. to those by coming to your feet to the

  920. foot of the cross

  921. and making things right with you and

  922. asking for that forgiveness so that we

  923. can be washed clean like David says and

  924. leave our burdens there at the foot of

  925. the cross and live looking up towards

  926. you. Lord, thank you for

  927. making grace possible by your sacrifice.

  928. And Lord,

  929. we ask that you give us the courage to

  930. keep looking up and looking away

  931. when we need to from the temptations

  932. that the devil puts in our line of

  933. sight. Keep us faithful, God, to you

  934. till you come to take us home. In Jesus

  935. name I pray. Amen.
