  1. Hello and welcome to the McDonald Road

  2. 7th Adventist Church. We are so honored

  3. that you are able to join us this

  4. morning to worship our God on Sabbath

  5. morning. We have people joining us from

  6. all over the nation uh from out in

  7. California, down in Texas, North and

  8. South Dakota, and here on the East Coast

  9. as well. And and it's a joint effort of

  10. all of us to worship our God together.

  11. So, I just want to extend a warm welcome

  12. to each one of you. Thank you so much

  13. for joining us here at McDonald Road. As

  14. we begin our worship hour, I hope that

  15. you are blessed in your time worshiping

  16. with us together on this Sabbath

  17. morning. Welcome to church

  18. >> buddy.

  19. >> It's good to be here worshiping with you

  20. today.

  21. I want to uh

  22. have you go back in your memory and for

  23. some of you it might not be too far if

  24. you're still in school.

  25. Remember when you had to run the mile in

  26. PE? Some of you that are still in

  27. school, hopefully you're still running

  28. the mile. Hopefully your PE teachers are

  29. still making you do that because if we

  30. had to suffer, you should still have to

  31. suffer.

  32. But I can remember having to run the

  33. mile and uh at the school I went to

  34. Escanido Adventist Academy in San Diego,

  35. there was uh a track that went around

  36. the football field and five laps around

  37. the field was a mile.

  38. And uh I can remember people saying

  39. telling me, you know, Jamie, if you run

  40. long enough, you experience a runner's

  41. high.

  42. And I've learned over the years that

  43. those people were lying to me.

  44. That doesn't exist. Some of you runners

  45. are like, "Yeah, it is." No, it doesn't.

  46. I've tried it. Runner's high. But we

  47. ran. We had no choice. We had to run the

  48. mile. And as you start off, that's how

  49. we started every PE class. You run the

  50. mile. And as you start off, you're

  51. feeling pretty good. You've got plenty

  52. of energy. You haven't run any anywhere

  53. so far. And so, you start off the first

  54. lap. And the first lap is not too bad,

  55. right? You've still got plenty of energy

  56. on that first lap. You're kind of

  57. looking around at who's who's in front

  58. of you and who's behind you and kind of

  59. got a target on the people who are in

  60. front of you. You want to catch up to

  61. them. And so starting around, you come

  62. around lap number two, you still have

  63. quite a bit of energy, a little less

  64. than lap number one, but you're still

  65. feeling pretty fresh.

  66. Lap number three comes along, you're

  67. starting to feel it a little bit, aren't

  68. you? You can start a little bit out of

  69. breath, but you still, okay, I'm still

  70. I've still got some some gas in the

  71. tank. Lap three is pretty good. App

  72. four, you're like, "All right, how many

  73. more do I have? Am I almost there?

  74. Where's the finish line? I've got one

  75. more to go." Okay, you're starting to

  76. feel it in your lungs a little bit. Your

  77. legs are giving out just a little bit.

  78. You're getting tired on lap number four.

  79. Then you you finish lap number four and

  80. you're coming into lap number five. How

  81. do you feel at lap number five when

  82. you're running the mile? Pretty tired,

  83. don't you? Your legs, your lungs are on

  84. fire. It feels like someone just lit a

  85. fire in your chest. Your lungs are

  86. trying to keep up. And but there's

  87. people in front of you that you're

  88. trying to beat. You don't want your

  89. buddy sitting next to you in class in

  90. the next period to be ripping on you cuz

  91. he beat you. So you're trying and

  92. pushing it. Your lungs are on fire. Your

  93. legs are tired. That last one. And you

  94. see you see the finish line up ahead.

  95. You're like, "Okay." And and all the PE

  96. teachers, I don't know about if yours

  97. did or not, but they're like, "All

  98. right, if you can that last like hundred

  99. yards, try and sprint." Any other PE

  100. teachers tell you that? That last little

  101. bit really just give it everything

  102. you've got. That's hard to do, isn't it?

  103. because you get don't have much left to

  104. give in there. But every once in a

  105. while, I try that that last that last

  106. 100 yards, you just give everything

  107. you've got and you're just you're

  108. suffering and it hurts. No matter how

  109. fast you were when you ran the mile, I

  110. guarantee that you're not as fast as

  111. Scottish middle distance runner Josh

  112. Kerr

  113. because very recently on July 18, just a

  114. couple of days ago, he broke the world

  115. record for the onem run. And the news

  116. said he shattered the old record. As I

  117. was reading this, I thought, wow,

  118. shattered. That's a big, you know, big

  119. term. Shattered the old record. must

  120. have been like by a lot. He beat the old

  121. record that had been there for 27 years

  122. by a half a second.

  123. But listen to how fast this guy ran the

  124. mile.

  125. 3 minutes

  126. and 42.66

  127. seconds for the mile run. Just out of

  128. curiosity, can anybody or in your whole

  129. lifetime did anybody run a sub

  130. fiveminute mile here?

  131. Oh,

  132. sub six minute. There's got to be some

  133. runners in here, huh? Okay. Okay. I see

  134. some. Yeah. Impressive.

  135. 3 minutes and 42 seconds for the mile.

  136. Now, as you're running,

  137. as you get close to the end of the run,

  138. there are some changes that happen to

  139. you physically as you're coming near to

  140. the end of a race or the end of a run.

  141. Your heart rate goes up to about 70 to

  142. 90% of its maximum capacity to rush

  143. oxygen out. Your lungs are working

  144. overtime to pull in extra air and clear

  145. out carbon dioxide. There's all kinds of

  146. things going on with lactic acid. Your

  147. muscles are starting to get tired.

  148. Adrenaline spikes from your your brain

  149. and kicks in some cortisol to sharpen

  150. your focus for the finish line. Blood

  151. goes to different extremities away from

  152. your stomach. Even as you're running,

  153. lots of things start changing as you get

  154. down to the end of a race physically.

  155. And it's the same way we see in

  156. scripture when we're coming down to the

  157. end of our story, the end of what Paul

  158. even says is our race. Things start to

  159. change. There's lots of things that

  160. become different as time starts to run

  161. out here on this planet as we see the

  162. prophecies of Jesus. And Paul says in 2

    2 Timothy 4:7

  163. Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good

  164. fight. I have finished the race. I have

  165. kept the faith. As we finish our race,

  166. our time here on earth, we can expect

  167. for there to be changes in the way

  168. things are going on in the time just

  169. before Jesus comes. Things will shift.

  170. Things will become just a little bit

  171. different.

  172. The first time in the Bible we see the

  173. need for a promise for a change comes in

  174. Genesis 3:15, just after the first sin.

    Genesis 3:15

  175. And Jesus is talking to Lucifer and he

  176. says, "I will put enmity between you and

  177. the woman, between your seed and her

  178. seed, and he shall bruise your head and

  179. you shall bruise his heel." Right here

  180. we see the first messianic prophecy that

  181. involves

  182. a revealing of the battle between good

  183. and evil that is to come. But also we

  184. see in this

  185. the prophetic answer to which side is

  186. going to come out successful, good or

  187. evil. And that is the seed of the woman

  188. here. There will be a Messiah that comes

  189. and handles the sin problem. Now,

  190. throughout scripture, we see lots of

  191. different promises about the second

  192. coming of Jesus, about the solution to

  193. sin, a time where there's no more sin.

  194. And I've often paused and just thought

  195. about what heaven is going to be like

  196. someday.

  197. You ever imagined that? Just tried to

  198. picture what it's going to be like. Have

  199. you ever thought about what won't be in

  200. heaven?

  201. What will not be in heaven?

  202. There won't be any shots in heaven.

  203. You ever thought about that? No more

  204. band-aids. No more shots. Uh, by show of

  205. hands, how many of you have to watch the

  206. needle go in when you get a shot?

  207. How many of you look away and can't

  208. watch the needle go in? Oh, look at you.

  209. Most of you are the look away kind.

  210. Interesting. Anybody ever passed out

  211. when they got a shot?

  212. I hear laughter. Nobody's raising their

  213. hand, though.

  214. Most shots are terrible. However, I will

  215. say that there was one shot that was the

  216. best shot I've ever had in my whole

  217. life. And that was when I had a kidney

  218. stone and I went to see my doctor cuz I

  219. was uh in a lot of pain. And that shot

  220. might have been my favorite thing that's

  221. ever happened to me in a doctor's

  222. office. Which also reminds me that there

  223. won't be any kidney stones in heaven

  224. either. Praise the Lord for that. If

  225. you've had a kidney stone, that might be

  226. some of the best news. No more kidney

  227. stones. Have you ever thought about this

  228. stuff? No more burning your hand on a

  229. stove.

  230. No more stubbing your toe. Little things

  231. that bother us throughout our days.

  232. Isn't it amazing how much pain a stubbed

  233. toe can bring to your life?

  234. No more of that. No more earachches or

  235. toothaches in heaven. One of the best

  236. things I think about heaven is that

  237. there's no more goodbyes.

  238. Saying goodbye is a tough thing. Every

  239. single one of us have had to say goodbye

  240. to somebody that we love and have been

  241. separated by death.

  242. No more funerals in heaven.

  243. That I'm really looking forward to.

  244. One of the toughest things I've ever had

  245. to do

  246. was uh say goodbye to my grandfather.

  247. He lived up in Greenville, Tennessee,

  248. and I was pastoring out in California

  249. and he was on hospice care. My

  250. grandfather and I were very, very close.

  251. And uh we knew he didn't have too much

  252. time left. And so I flew from California

  253. to Nashville. My grandfather loved cars.

  254. Loved cars. And so I rented the coolest

  255. car I could find at the rental place, a

  256. brand new sedan. And I knew he would

  257. like it. And he'd been in the hospital.

  258. And so when I got to Greenville, I

  259. picked him up in the hospital and I made

  260. sure I drove him home. It was his last

  261. car ride. and and uh he was excited to

  262. see all the bells and whistles in this

  263. car. It was it was a cool moment and uh

  264. took him home on Friday. I think

  265. Saturday night, um, I had to say goodbye

  266. to my grandfather because I had to catch

  267. a flight out early Sunday morning. And I

  268. knew that was going to be the last time

  269. I saw my grandfather alive here.

  270. And

  271. saying goodbye and and and it's, you

  272. know, when when you acknowledge that

  273. death is coming, that's a hard

  274. conversation to have.

  275. But when you're saying goodbye and you

  276. know that's the last time, man, that's a

  277. that's a tough conversation to have,

  278. isn't it?

  279. I can't wait till there's a time when we

  280. never have to say goodbye again to

  281. anybody.

  282. But also tucked into these promises

  283. about the second coming are wonderful,

  284. wonderful reunions

  285. with the people that we miss.

  286. >> Boy, am I glad for those promises, too.

  287. Not only do we look at what's not there,

  288. but it's nice to dream about what we

  289. will experience when Jesus comes. And

  290. those reunions with people that we've

  291. missed for so long are going to be the

  292. most beautiful moments I think we've

  293. ever had.

  294. Throughout the scriptures, God shared

  295. with the prophets what to look for in

  296. the times just before he comes. He did

  297. this to give us hope and assurance

  298. that for sure he's coming back, but also

  299. it's a reminder to us that we're not

  300. forgotten down here.

  301. God has not for one moment forgotten

  302. about all of us and the situations that

  303. we're in and what we're going through.

  304. He's promises he's preparing a home for

  305. you and I. That means you've got a home

  306. in heaven already. You've got an address

  307. in heaven because Jesus is planning on

  308. you being there.

  309. And you're at the forefront of his mind.

  310. You being there. And these Bible

  311. promises, these prophecies that point us

  312. down to this time, that show up through

  313. our recent history are a reminder that

  314. we are not forgotten here.

  315. that God has his eye on us and has this

  316. rescue plan for us in full motion. Last

  317. week we looked at a specific prophecy.

  318. This is a four-part Bible prophecy

  319. series we're looking at. This is week

  320. number two. Last week we looked at

  321. Daniel chapter 7 and Revelation 13. Two

    Daniel 7 chapter mention

  322. of these tied together. The first in

  323. Daniel chapter 2 is the statue. Daniel

Daniel 2 chapter mention Daniel 7 chapter mention

  324. chapter 7, we start seeing these these

  325. different beasts which the Bible says

  326. represent kingdoms. we see that

  327. correlation with Revelation chapter 13

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  328. and this beast that that we uh that we

  329. read about there. And if you haven't if

  330. you didn't get to uh be here last week

  331. and study that with us, go online this

  332. afternoon and you can watch that sermon

  333. and review and catch up on this on this

  334. series. But through that, we looked at

  335. the time period that God shared with

  336. Daniel and then again shared later with

  337. John the Revelator. this specific time

  338. period where we call it today the dark

  339. ages where there was a time of

  340. persecution of people that were faithful

  341. to the scriptures. You can read about

  342. these these uh I think their heroes

  343. these martyrs that died for their faith.

  344. People like John Hus, William Tinddale.

  345. You can see about the this their stories

  346. and what they contributed to God's work

  347. and how they paid for it with their

  348. lives. Even sometimes William Tinddale,

  349. he was so hated that dying wasn't even

  350. good enough that the the powers at the

  351. time dug him up 40 years after he had

  352. died, ground up his remains and burned

  353. them and threw him in the river. That's

  354. how much they didn't like what he did.

  355. A wild time, lots of persecution of

  356. people who were faithful to God's word.

  357. This dark ages period we read about in

  358. the Bible. And if you look at what God

  359. shared with Daniel, we see it as a

  360. 1,260-year

  361. period that went from 538 to 1798.

  362. And interesting that we see prophecies

  363. that come up very recently in our

  364. history.

  365. Now, Jesus directly references this

  366. specific prophecy that we looked at last

  367. week here in Matthew chapter 24. Turn

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  368. with me in your Bibles to Matthew chap

  369. 24.

  370. Jesus spends an almost an entire chapter

  371. here with his disciples talking about

  372. what to expect in the time just before

  373. Jesus comes before he comes back the

  374. second time. Matthew chapter 24 and

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  375. verse3 and he starts this the the

  376. section starts off it and says now as he

  377. sat on the mount of olives where is

  378. Jesus sitting the mount of olives the

  379. disciples came to him in private saying

  380. tell us when will these things be and

  381. what will be the sign of your coming and

  382. the end of the age they wanted to know

  383. what to expect and here we can glean a

  384. little bit from Jesus on what to expect

  385. as he shares this with the disciples now

  386. he's on the mount of olives which is

  387. interesting And we've we've studied

  388. recently some Bible prophecy that looks

  389. at modern Christian teachings that

  390. misinterpret some of these things that

  391. Jesus is talking about here. The first

  392. thing that Jesus says when they ask him

  393. what the signs of his coming would be,

  394. the first thing that he says is take

  395. heed that no one deceives you. Our radar

  396. should be up in the last days for false

  397. teachings. teachings that might even

  398. sound good but go contrary to God's

  399. word. So, we should all be students of

  400. God's word so we know and can tell what

  401. the stuff is that's false. Right? That

  402. only makes sense. Jesus says, "Be

  403. careful what you believe." Now, he's

  404. saying this from the Mount of Olives,

  405. which is interesting because there's a

  406. modern teaching dealing with the Mount

  407. of Olives that I believe is a false

  408. teaching that is widely accepted in the

  409. Christian world today. We talked about

  410. this a couple of months ago in reference

  411. to Zechariah 14:4.

    Zechariah 14:4

  412. And it says, "On this day, his feet will

  413. stand on the Mount of Olives east of

  414. Jerusalem." Many people today, many

  415. Christians today teach that when Jesus

  416. comes the second time, he's going to

  417. come and set foot on the modern Mount of

  418. Olives today. when he comes where Mount

  419. of Olives is right now which is the

  420. reason why so many people today are so

  421. fixated on the country of Israel because

  422. they believe Jesus has to come there and

  423. set foot on the Mount of Olives.

  424. However, if you compare scriptures and

  425. look at what Jesus is talking about, you

  426. will see, for instance, over in 1

  427. Thessalonians chapter 4:17, Paul clears

  428. this up and he says, "Then together with

  429. them, we who are still alive and remain

  430. on the earth," talking about the second

  431. coming, "will be caught up in the clouds

  432. to meet the Lord where?

  433. >> In the air." We're not meeting the Lord

  434. at the Mount of Olives, are we? Paul

  435. says we're going to meet the Lord in the

  436. air. So what is it talking about in

  437. Zechariah where it says that he will set

  438. his foot down on the Mount of Olives and

  439. it has to mean after the thousand years

  440. after the millennium because we know

  441. Paul says that he will not set foot down

  442. and we're going to meet him in the air.

  443. So you can look at these different

  444. teachings and say all right let's

  445. compare it with what everything else

  446. says and then you can find the truth.

  447. Isn't it fascinating though that Jesus

  448. from the Mount of Olives says be careful

  449. about false teachings

  450. even about the place where he's

  451. standing. Let's continue on.

  452. Jesus says, "You will hear of wars and

  453. rumors of wars. See that you are not

  454. troubled, for all these things must come

  455. to pass, but the end is not yet. For

  456. nation will rise against nation and

  457. kingdom against kingdom. There will be

  458. famines and pestilences and earthquakes

  459. in various places. All these are the

  460. beginnings of birth panges." Interesting

  461. that Jesus uses this phrase because

  462. anybody who's familiar with birth panges

  463. knows that contractions mean something's

  464. coming.

  465. When a woman is about to give birth,

  466. there are contractions that tell you

  467. that it's getting closer to the time to

  468. have that baby.

  469. I can remember with the birth of our

  470. first child,

  471. Cali, we were I didn't know anything

  472. about any of this stuff. We went to a

  473. class and they were telling us, "All

  474. right, here's what you do." And they I

  475. remember them looking at me and they're

  476. like, "Dad, if your wife has has the

  477. baby on the way to the hospital, that's

  478. this is what you do." And I was like,

  479. Lord, please, please don't let that

  480. happen to me. Please let us make it to

  481. the hospital. I don't think I can do

  482. this and deliver a baby on the side of

  483. the road. I know people have had to do

  484. that. Just please, not me, Lord.

  485. But those contractions were 10 minutes

  486. apart and I was like, "Time to go." I

  487. called I called the doctor's office and

  488. I was like, "10 minutes? We're coming."

  489. They're like, "Don't come."

  490. Our our our doctor said, "Why don't you

  491. take your wife to the mall and walk her

  492. around?" I was like, "We're having

  493. contractions here." She's like, "Go for

  494. a walk at the mall." This is truly what

  495. she said. So Aaron and I went for a walk

  496. at the mall and we're trying to pretend

  497. like we're window shopping every time

  498. there's a contraction. It was the most

  499. awkward thing but doctor's orders,

  500. right? So you have to do it. Finally, at

  501. about the contractions were 2 to 3

  502. minutes apart, I called. I was like,

  503. "We're on our way and we're coming no

  504. matter what." And off we went. But you

  505. could tell the contractions as they got

  506. as they got quicker and and closer

  507. together, you knew the baby was coming,

  508. right? And that's what Jesus is saying

  509. here. He's like, "As the contractions

  510. happen with a mother, as they start to

  511. happen more frequently, you know the

  512. baby's coming."

  513. In the same way, he says, "As you see

  514. these things happening in the world and

  515. around you, you can know that as they

  516. start to happen more and more closely,

  517. you can know that the coming is coming

  518. even sooner."

  519. That's why he uses that birthpang part.

  520. Let's continue. Verse 9. It says, "Then

  521. they will deliver you up for tribulation

  522. and kill you. You'll be hated by all

  523. nations for not my name's sake." Let's

  524. pause here for just a minute. Jesus is

  525. giving us a heads up that being a

  526. faithful follower of him will not be

  527. easy,

  528. but it will still be the right thing to

  529. do.

  530. >> He says, "And many of you will be

  531. offended." He just throws this in there

  532. in the middle of all this serious stuff.

  533. He's like, "And by the way, everybody's

  534. going to be offended in this time of the

  535. world." I've always chuckled when I read

  536. this because we live in a time where

  537. everybody's offended by something. Maybe

  538. God is giving you and I a heads up to

  539. just not take everything so seriously.

  540. Don't get offended quite as easily. But

  541. when you see it all around you, you can

  542. see that Jesus mentioned that was going

  543. to be one of the signs that he was

  544. coming soon. Everybody's offended by

  545. everything. He just throws that in

  546. there. He says, "It will betray one

  547. another and will hate one another. Then

  548. many false prophets will rise up and

  549. deceive many. And because lawlessness

  550. will abound, the love of many will grow

  551. cold. But he who endures to the end

  552. shall be saved. and the gospel of the

  553. kingdom will be preached in all the

  554. world as a witness to all the nations

  555. and then the end will come. You know,

  556. sometimes it's easy for us to just focus

  557. on all the crazy horrible stuff that's

  558. going on in our world and we forget that

  559. God is doing amazing things around the

  560. world and changing people's hearts and

  561. lives as well. The gospel is going all

  562. around the world and Jesus is changing

  563. people's hearts.

  564. There's a lot of good that's going on in

  565. our world as well and we have a the

  566. privilege of being able to be a part of

  567. that and sharing the gospel around the

  568. world.

  569. Now Jesus directs our attention to the

  570. book of Daniel here in verse 15.

  571. Therefore, when you see the abomination

  572. of desolation spoken of by Daniel the

  573. prophet standing in the holy place, let

  574. those who are in Judea flee to the

  575. mountains. Okay, so he talks about

  576. directly the book of Daniel here. Have

  577. you ever pictured in your mind Jesus

  578. sitting down with a scroll of Daniel and

  579. just going through and reading it and

  580. memorizing it and studying it? Jesus

  581. knew the book of Daniel well.

  582. If he took the time to study it, it's

  583. probably a good thing for us to study as

  584. well and to learn about these

  585. prophecies. Jesus directly points us to

  586. the book of Daniel. Now, as Jesus

  587. continues here, he brings up a very

  588. relevant point for us today that we

  589. can't miss. And it's in verse 20.

  590. As Jesus is giving us instructions for

  591. uh for how to live and what to be aware

  592. of,

  593. he says this, "And pray that your flight

  594. may not be in the winter or on the what?

  595. >> The Sabbath day."

  596. Isn't it fascinating that Jesus

  597. before his resurrection

  598. insinuated

  599. that there would still be people keeping

  600. the seventh day Sabbath all the way down

  601. at the end of time.

  602. It was still relevant.

  603. And Jesus made it a point to say, "By

  604. the way, at the end times,

  605. keep the Sabbath just like you always

  606. have." Just like it was a sign for us

  607. between us of our relationship together,

  608. it will still be that sign. We see in

  609. Revelation, it says, "Here's the

  610. patience of the saints. Here are those

  611. that keep the what?"

  612. >> commandments of God. Here we see Jesus

  613. reiterating the importance of the

  614. Sabbath even after the resurrection when

  615. many people say it was changed. And yet

  616. the word of God reminds us that the

  617. seventh day Sabbath will still be

  618. important in the time just before he

  619. comes in the end times.

  620. Verse 23, it says, "Then if anyone says

  621. to you, look, here is Christ or there

  622. don't believe him. For false Christ and

  623. false prophets will arise and show great

  624. signs and wonders to deceive, if

  625. possible, even the elect." Therefore, if

  626. they say to you, "Look, he's in the

  627. desert, don't go out. Look, he's in the

  628. inner rooms, don't believe it. For as

  629. the lightning comes from the east and

  630. flashes to the west, so will be the

  631. coming of the son of man. This this

  632. Jesus Jesus drops this in here too

  633. because I think he knew it would be

  634. relevant for us today because one of the

  635. most popular teachings about the second

  636. coming of Jesus is that you might miss

  637. it that it might be secret and all of a

  638. sudden one of your friends might just

  639. disappear and you might get left behind.

  640. And yet Jesus reminds us here that there

  641. is no way you're going to miss the

  642. second coming. He says, "As lightning

  643. flashes from the east to the west, so

  644. also will the coming of the son of man

  645. be." Also later on, it says, "Every eye

  646. will see him." We have so many awesome

  647. clues in the scriptures as to exactly

  648. what will happen and what won't happen.

  649. This book is so relevant today. Many

  650. people today say there's a lot of

  651. outdated stuff in this Bible. It's

  652. either all inspired or it's none

  653. inspired.

  654. And here we see

  655. Jesus

  656. sharing truth with us as to what to look

  657. for. There's no way we're going to miss

  658. the second coming of Jesus. But now

  659. here's here's an interesting part. Jesus

  660. continues, and this is where we tie in

  661. with Daniel and why he points us back to

  662. the book of Daniel,

  663. verse 29.

  664. Jesus continues and says immediately

  665. after the tribulation of those days.

  666. Okay, pause here for just a second. What

  667. is Jesus talking about? The tribulation

  668. of those days. He's just been talking

  669. about Daniel. Remember he pointed us

  670. back here to Daniel. Last week we looked

  671. at this period of tribulation 1,260

  672. years. So that finished as we looked and

  673. this this is not a 7th day Adventist

  674. only conclusion. You can look at

  675. theologians for the last several hundred

  676. years that have been uh studying the

  677. scriptures, Anglican, Methodist,

  678. whatever you like, and they a lot of

  679. them have come to the same conclusion as

  680. well that that period of dark ages ended

  681. in 1798.

  682. So Jesus is telling us right here, hey,

  683. heads up, there's going to be a few

  684. signs just after that prophecy is

  685. fulfilled. And here's what Jesus says.

  686. Timewise, we know when it should arrive,

  687. right? Sometime around 1798.

  688. And Jesus says after the tribulation of

  689. those days, the sun will be darkened and

  690. the moon will not give its light, the

  691. stars will fall from heaven. We should

  692. be able to see something significant in

  693. the skies relating to these three things

  694. on time because Jesus gives us the

  695. timetable. Right?

  696. If you go on your phones, you can search

  697. for the dark day

  698. and you will find that across the board,

  699. historians and people recognize that

  700. this happened. We see a shift in focus

  701. from Bible prophecy from Europe over to

  702. the Americas over here because we see in

  703. Revelation that there is a shift to a a

  704. place where there is more religious

  705. freedom.

  706. You're sitting on the ground where that

  707. is described today in the United States

  708. of America where we have freedom that

  709. most people don't have. And that freedom

  710. came around this time that we're seeing

  711. this prophecy fulfilled. In fact, in the

  712. United States, it was just a little bit

  713. earlier, 1776.

  714. Over in Europe, just a little bit later,

  715. as things moved over there. But we see a

  716. shift in focus from Europe in Bible

  717. prophecy over to this side of the pond.

  718. So Jesus gives us a time period and he

  719. gives us the events. Did those things

  720. actually happen? We've studied this not

  721. too long ago here in in a Bible prophecy

  722. series, but since it's connected to what

  723. we looked at yesterday, we it's so cool

  724. to look at. We can't bypass it. It's

  725. it's so neat and it gives me so much

  726. hope and courage in the future because

  727. it's a promise of Jesus that has come to

  728. fruition and we can see it. If you look

  729. in your phones, you can look up the dark

  730. day.

  731. And on May 19, 1780,

  732. right about on time

  733. at 10:00 a.m. in New England, we see it

  734. was bright like this in the morning,

  735. 10:00 in the morning, and it started to

  736. get dark when it was supposed to be

  737. light.

  738. Many eyewitnesses wrote about this dark

  739. day

  740. and witnessed this and told what it was

  741. like. There was one gentleman, Dr.

  742. Samuel Tenny, he said he held he could

  743. hold a sheet of white paper in front of

  744. his face right here and he couldn't even

  745. see it. It was so dark.

  746. American Mercury magazine wrote about

  747. this. Timothy Dwight, the president of

  748. Yale University at the time wrote about

  749. this occasion.

  750. Many people were a little bit nervous

  751. because they had read about this stuff

  752. in the Bible and they were living it

  753. right then and noticed that this was

  754. something that the Bible talked about

  755. and it had come right on time.

  756. Now the second part was it says the

  757. stars will fall from heaven. So we

  758. should expect that there should be a

  759. massive meteor shower of some sort that

  760. would get everybody's attention sometime

  761. in the future in the couple years just

  762. after this dark day. I I love camping.

  763. As a kid, I camped out in the desert.

  764. We'd look up at the stars. I'd sleep

  765. outside. And I remember counting

  766. shooting stars before I'd fall asleep to

  767. see how many I could count. If I was

  768. lucky, I could spot three or four of

  769. them, maybe before I fell asleep. And

  770. it's so cool. Sometimes you'll see just

  771. a little blip of one where you just see

  772. a little bit and then sometimes you see

  773. the one that goes all the way across the

  774. sky. That's a treat, isn't it? See that

  775. big one?

  776. Well, for this what Jesus has to be

  777. talking about is something bigger than

  778. that where it gets the attention of a

  779. lot of people to fulfill this. And this

  780. again is a sign that Jesus put in the

  781. skies that we would know that he's

  782. coming soon. He's having this

  783. conversation with his disciples. If we

  784. look back at history, this is why

  785. history is so cool because history and

  786. prophecy are intertwined so much.

  787. 53 years after the dark day, November

  788. 13, 1833,

  789. we see the stars falling in a most

  790. unusual way. In fact, the New York

  791. Journal of Commerce the next day,

  792. November 14, 1833, writes about this.

  793. Frederick Douglas, you might have read

  794. some of his

  795. literary content. He says, "I went to

  796. St. Michael's to live in March 1833. I

  797. know the year because it was the year

  798. that that strange phenomenon when the

  799. heavens seemed about to part with the

  800. starry train. I witnessed this gorgeous

  801. spectacle and was aruck. The air seemed

  802. filled with bright descending messengers

  803. from the sky. I was not without the

  804. suggestion that at that moment that it

  805. might be the harbinger of the coming of

  806. the son of man. I had read that the

  807. stars shall fall from heaven and they

  808. were falling now. Fletcher G. Watson,

  809. a leading expert in meteors from Harvard

  810. University,

  811. said that he saw this, witnessed it. He

  812. says what he saw, the stars looked thick

  813. as snowflakes coming down outside. Some

  814. people said that it was so bright

  815. outside because there were so many

  816. shooting stars that it woke people up

  817. from their sleep. An astrophysicist says

  818. that as he described it, he guessed that

  819. there was probably about 60,000

  820. meteors per hour going all night long.

  821. 60,000 per hour.

  822. One person said the flashes of light,

  823. although less intense than lightning,

  824. were still very bright. That was the

  825. description of the stars. Not quite as

  826. bright as lightning when it flashed.

  827. Some as thick as snowflakes,

  828. right on time,

  829. just as Jesus said. Why did Jesus say

  830. this? Why were these things happening

  831. there? so that you and I could see these

  832. in the fulfillment and have courage

  833. knowing that Jesus is coming soon.

  834. This is a message from Jesus to you,

  835. an encouragement that he hasn't

  836. forgotten about you,

  837. that he's coming to take you home soon,

  838. and that he loves you very much.

  839. Otherwise, he wouldn't go to all this.

  840. He finishes Jesus finishes this section

  841. and just after he talks about the sun,

  842. moon and stars, he says they will see

  843. the son of man coming in the clouds of

  844. heaven with power and great glory. He

  845. will send his angels with a sound of a

  846. trumpet and they will gather together

  847. his elect from the four winds from one

  848. end of heaven to the other.

  849. It is so neat to see Bible prophecy

  850. fulfilled just as Jesus said it would

  851. happen. Amen.

  852. >> And it gives me courage

  853. seeing those fulfillments because it

  854. reminds me that I can trust what Jesus

  855. says in the Bible. If this stuff

  856. happened just on time, just like he said

  857. it was going to happen, I can know

  858. beyond a shadow of a doubt that when

  859. Jesus says he's coming to take me home

  860. and he's coming to take you home, he's

  861. coming to take you home.

  862. >> There's not a shadow of a doubt.

  863. He promised. And when Jesus promises, it

  864. comes true.

  865. In this prophecy, Jesus has us looking

  866. up.

  867. Looking up to the heavens. There's a

  868. value in looking up. Many years ago,

  869. when I was a student at Southern, I

  870. enjoyed skydiving. I had gotten into it

  871. with my brother back in California, and

  872. we had tried to sneak a skydive trip,

  873. the two of us, past our parents while

  874. they were gone on a trip. I was 19 and

  875. he was like 22, 23 and and he had made

  876. the reservation for the skydive thing

  877. and and he had had the call back

  878. confirmation number be our family

  879. business that my mom checked the

  880. messages on sometimes.

  881. And so they were going to be out of town

  882. and just going to be me and my brother

  883. hanging out. And so we thought we were

  884. going to pull off a sly one and go

  885. skydiving without our parents knowing.

  886. Well, they called and said, "Hey, we're

  887. just confirming the skydiving

  888. appointment for Danny and Jamie Hton."

  889. And my mom's like, "What?"

  890. And so, uh, they had a nice talk with us

  891. and we said, "Well, we still want to

  892. go." And she's like, "Okay, just call me

  893. when you're done." And so, we I started

  894. skydiving. Really, that was a tandem,

  895. but I got to where I could skydive solo,

  896. which was even more fun, just by

  897. yourself. And, uh, as they teach you

  898. body mechanics of skydiving, they teach

  899. you what to do and what not to do. And

  900. it's it's very important because it can

  901. you can get in a lot of trouble if you

  902. do the wrong thing. As you skydive,

  903. there's a lot of wind resistance. And so

  904. you've probably seen videos, maybe some

  905. of you have gone skydiving where your

  906. arms are out like this and your legs are

  907. in a V like that and you're kind of in

  908. the skydive position. If you're going to

  909. pull your chute, which is right down

  910. here, you can't just leave your arm like

  911. this because now the wind resistance is

  912. here and it'll throw you into a spin. So

  913. you have to counter raise your arm up

  914. here as you come down and then bring

  915. them back up together. And that keeps

  916. you stable. Right when you're about to

  917. jump out of the airplane, which is a

  918. pretty exciting time because you're

  919. looking down in some places 14,000 feet

  920. and you're in the back of that plane

  921. getting ready to go out, they will

  922. always tell you, "Keep your chin up.

  923. Don't look down as you're about to fall

  924. over. Keep your chin up and look this

  925. way. Look up and then fall out. And then

  926. while you're falling at 120 m an hour,

  927. don't be looking down like this at the

  928. ground. Keep your chin up. Be looking up

  929. and keep your eye on the horizon. Keep

  930. your chin up. keep on looking up.

  931. Because if you start looking down,

  932. if you drop your chin and your head

  933. points down, it can tip your upper body

  934. down and throw off your airflow

  935. position, making it harder to stay

  936. stable while you're falling.

  937. You become unstable, which is a little

  938. bit dangerous. Keeping your chin up and

  939. looking up keeps things stable.

  940. Friends, in today's world, it can be

  941. very tempting to look around you and

  942. look look at all the crazy things going

  943. on around our world. And it can be

  944. tempting to be a little bit discouraged

  945. about those things. And you can kind of

  946. feel overwhelmed. Oh, this is going on.

  947. This is going on. I can't I can't

  948. believe this is happening. This is going

  949. everything. If you look around you down

  950. here, you're going to be discouraged by

  951. all the stuff that goes on. But if you

  952. keep your chin up and you're looking up,

  953. if you keep your eyes on Jesus, you're

  954. going to be stable and steady in your

  955. walk with him.

  956. Don't get discouraged looking around at

  957. how crazy this world is.

  958. It' be easy to do that, too, if you're

  959. just looking around for all the terrible

  960. stuff that goes on in this world. Easy

  961. to get discouraged. If you're looking up

  962. and you keep your eyes on Jesus,

  963. your courage will stay strong, your hope

  964. will stay strong, and your faith will

  965. stay strong as well. In this prophecy,

  966. Jesus has us looking up. Looking up to

  967. the heavens, friends, in our world

  968. today,

  969. I want to challenge you to keep on

  970. looking up. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

  971. >> Don't look at the world falling apart

  972. around you.

  973. Look at his word and all the promises

  974. that he's given to you, the asurances

  975. that he's given to you, the love that he

  976. has for you. That'll lift you up, but

  977. you can only get there if you're looking

  978. to Jesus. If you're spending time in his

  979. word, we have a lot to look forward to

  980. in being citizens of heaven. I don't

  981. know when Jesus is coming. I know that

  982. today we're one day closer. And I know

  983. that by looking at these prophecies, we

  984. have to be getting quite close. And for

  985. that I am grateful and looking forward

  986. to when Jesus comes. May we all in our

  987. hearts continue to grow closer to him

  988. and keep on looking up. I invite our
