  1. Sunday school today we're doing things a little bit different.

  2. We are doing Sunday school for youth and adults as we start

  3. this new series in Ephesians called The Armor of God.

  4. We also, because we're using the class forget to know R&O for new

  5. people that's going to be in the older kids classroom.

  6. And then next week we're doing membership class in there as

  7. well. And so, so we're excited to have

  8. all ages in Sunday school. I do believe that all ages can

  9. benefit from this Sunday school. And so I'm going to be asking

  10. questions along the way and trying to get participation.

  11. And I just want you to know the format of this is that you can

  12. raise a hand and ask a question if it's, you know, concerning

  13. whatever the topic is I'm on at the moment where we're talking.

  14. And I would answer those or we'll have, if you don't get

  15. your question answered at the stop of every kind of point or

  16. section, we'll have questions. I will ask you questions.

  17. And I'm hoping to get some answers from you as well as

  18. probably some scripture reading as well.

  19. So please have your Bibles open and open them to Ephesians

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  20. chapter 6. And why, why we're excited about

  21. this series is because we believe that there's a lot of

  22. spiritual warfare going on right now that people don't recognize

  23. it to be that. I think people just think in

  24. general terms, and especially Christians.

  25. Of course, all people, unbelievers don't really think

  26. about spiritual things, but even Christians sometimes neglect to

  27. remember or to know what Scripture says about evil going

  28. on in the world. Has spiritual forces behind it

  29. that are making things work, things that we can't see, things

  30. that are happening, influences that are happening.

  31. An organized system of evil that is happening behind the scenes

  32. that may be at work in even some of the physical people that we

  33. see in our world doing evil. And so putting on the armor of

  34. God or the full armor of God. It's all about spiritual

  35. warfare, fighting the spiritual battle.

  36. And so I would like to start out by reading all of the verses

  37. from Ephesians 610 through 20. So pull your Bibles there as I

  38. pull my Bible there. Sorry, we've kind of had a crazy

  39. morning with the projector not working.

  40. So we had to do this, this quick fix here.

  41. But it turned out great. I mean, other than the screen

  42. being a little bit off, you wouldn't have noticed if I

  43. didn't tell you, right? But the screen is a little bit

  44. wonky today because of the projectors down here instead up

  45. there. OK, Ephesians chapter 6, verses

    Ephesians 6:10–20

  46. 10 through 20, I'm going to read.

  47. It says, finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of

  48. his might. Put on the whole armor of God

  49. that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the

  50. devil. For we do not wrestle against

  51. flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,

  52. against the cosmic powers, over this present darkness, against

  53. the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

  54. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be

  55. able to withstand in the evil day.

  56. And having done all to stand firm.

  57. Stand, therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth,

  58. and having put on the breastplate of righteousness and

  59. as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by

  60. the gospel of peace in all circumstances, take up the

  61. shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming

  62. darts of the evil. 1 And take the helmet of salvation and the

  63. sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying at all

  64. times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication to that

  65. end. Keep alert with all

  66. perseverance, making supplication for all the Saints

  67. and also for me, that words may be given to me, and opening my

  68. mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel for which

  69. I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly as

  70. I ought to speak. So in the context of the book of

  71. Ephesians, which I think that we need to do, is understand that

  72. Paul is in prison, chained to a Roman soldier at the time of the

  73. writing of this book. This is the time where he wrote

  74. Philippians, Ephesians, Colossians, and I believe

  75. Philemon. And so all four of those letters

  76. were written in a prison in Rome.

  77. And so it makes a lot of sense that he's using this armor

  78. analogy. He sees this in his everyday

  79. life. In fact, he sees it every single

  80. day, 18 inches away from him, chained to him.

  81. No, I'm not saying that the I doubt the Roman soldier was

  82. always in full armor, but as he walked around and as he saw

  83. different soldiers changing in and changing out shift or, you

  84. know, walking through the city, he could see a soldier that had

  85. all this different apparel on it.

  86. And this would also make sense to a lot of the citizens.

  87. The Ephesian church and people in general would have understood

  88. that he's talking about a soldier.

  89. He writes this under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit

  90. while using his own personal experience, logic, and reason to

  91. teach the church how to do spiritual warfare.

  92. Now to give a little more context of, of the book of

  93. Ephesians, the first 3 chapters are all about theology and the

  94. last three chapters are all about what do I do with that

  95. theology. So chapter 1 is God's, God's

  96. grace, God's glory, his spirit and his power.

  97. We're going to have to look at some of these throughout this

  98. series. Go back chapters to to find out

  99. what he means. We need to have the full

  100. context. Chapter 2, depravity,

  101. regeneration and the church, an ecclesiology.

  102. That's what the study of the church, a theology of the

  103. church, that word is. Chapter 3, Mystery, prayer and

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  104. love. And then finally we get to

  105. therefore. So when you are reading one of

  106. Paul's letters or another epistle, often times this is how

  107. the books are laid out. They are laid out with a lot of

  108. theology up front. And then finally you get to this

  109. place where it says therefore, and maybe you've heard this

  110. before, but we got to find out what the therefore is,

  111. therefore, and usually it's to apply the theology, apply

  112. whatever Paul said about spiritual truths.

  113. Now how do I use this in my practical everyday life?

  114. So it goes on to talk about unity and maturity and

  115. membership. And then in chapter 5, light

  116. versus darkness worship, how it plays out in marriage in chapter

  117. 6 with children at work. And then it ends with this

  118. section on spiritual warfare. So let's look at our verses.

  119. Now knowing that all of the context, let's look at our first

  120. verses as we get into this intro into spiritual warfare.

  121. And I believe this, this this whole series is probably going

  122. to take about 8 or 9 weeks. Is that right Mike?

  123. Because each one of the armor every, we're not just going

  124. verse by verse, we're actually going to break up some of the

  125. verses have two pieces of armor in them.

  126. And so we'll have to take two weeks on those verses to look at

  127. what these the armor is. But I get the opportunity to

  128. open us up with the first 3 verses before we get to the

  129. armor talking about recognizing the battle and all that stuff I

  130. just said, just so you know, is in this wonderful slide that I

  131. made for you walking through kind of the context of the book.

  132. But let's get to our first verses, 10 through 11.

  133. It says, finally be strong in the Lord and in the strength of

  134. His might. Put on the whole armor of God

  135. that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the

  136. devil. So I guess the question is,

  137. First off of that first verse, whose strength are we doing

  138. spiritual warfare in? What does that verse say?

  139. Whose strength we're supposed to use?

  140. Anybody want to answer that? His whose God almighty, right,

  141. Because why? Because he is strong.

  142. He is the strong man who, who can, who can bind the strongest

  143. of any spiritual force. Actually in, in, in, in one of

  144. the Gospels, Jesus tells a parable about first you have to

  145. bind a strong man and then you can plunder his goods.

  146. That is talking about and, and, and that's where the Pharisees

  147. are, are trying to say he casts out demons by the power of

  148. demons. Jesus.

  149. That's what what what they're saying in that passage.

  150. And he's saying, no, a house divided against itself cannot

  151. stand. What he's trying to tell them

  152. is, look, no, the house that I'm coming against is has been

  153. infiltrated by a person he calls the strong man.

  154. And so in order to get rid of this strong man, someone else

  155. stronger has to be able to come in, be able to bind him up and

  156. plunder his goods. That verse is talking that Jesus

  157. is the stronger man, stronger than Satan, greater is he who is

  158. in you than he who is in the world.

  159. Jesus is the strong man and God himself is God Almighty.

  160. That's talking about his omnipotence.

  161. What is what is omnipotent means?

  162. It means all powerful. Omnipotent potency is powerful

  163. and so if we go back to Ephesians chapter one, verse 11,

  164. as I said, we would look at different verses throughout the

  165. book. In chapter 1, verse 11, it says

  166. in him we have obtained an inheritance, having been

  167. predestined according to the purpose of him who works all

  168. things according to the counsel of his will.

  169. So that verse right there is saying that he works all things

  170. part of God's omnipotence or all being all powerful is that he's

  171. in control of all things, that he's sovereign.

  172. That's what the the word means. And so when we're talking about

  173. be strong in the Lord, in the strength of his might, we're

  174. talking about not just the strength of the creator who

  175. spoke everything into existence and the power of Jesus name who

  176. can cast out demons and defeat Satan.

  177. We're also talking about the sovereign will and power of God,

  178. that nothing can thwart God's will and power.

  179. So when we're going through spiritual warfare, we must

  180. remind ourselves of God's sovereignty.

  181. We must say, OK, look, there are things like the book of Job

  182. where Satan comes to Job and says, I want to test this guy

  183. and God saying, OK, go ahead. Like in God's sovereignty, he

  184. allowed spiritual warfare in Job's life.

  185. And for a long time in that book, like most of the book,

  186. there's a lot of lamenting and sorrow and pain, and that's what

  187. happens during spiritual warfare.

  188. But in the end, it's said that he was blessed greater than what

  189. he had before this happened. And so remember, spiritual

  190. warfare can be used for the good of God's people, for the good of

  191. God's people. We always think of it as bad and

  192. evil because there is evil behind it in the forces against

  193. us. But just remember, God is

  194. sovereign according to the purpose of him who works all

  195. thing according to the counsel of His will.

  196. He works all things according to the counsel of His will.

  197. Now, does that mean that God is on the hook for evil and He

  198. causes the evil to happen to you now?

  199. But He certainly allows it, and it has to be a part of some sort

  200. of plan, His sovereign will and plan that He has to glorify

  201. Himself and ultimately for our good.

  202. So in our spiritual warfare, we must not remember whose strength

  203. we go in. So let's see whose strength

  204. we've answered that. Whose armor?

  205. Going back to that verse, whose armor are we putting on God's

  206. armor, right? What are the pieces?

  207. What are the pieces of this armor?

  208. How many are there? I'd like to hear, you know, how

  209. many. What's your opinion about how

  210. many pieces of armor are there in Ephesians 6?

  211. It's going to be 14 through, I think about 18 lists them all

  212. or, or, or, or let's just say 10 through 20.

  213. Take some time to look at those verses and I'd like to hear you

  214. shout out how many pieces do you think that there are?

  215. Six. OK.

  216. And and so let's hear some of those belt of truth, breastplate

  217. of righteousness. What?

  218. What was that? Yeah, shoes of the gospel of

  219. peace or gospel readiness of shoes of the gospel of peace.

  220. That one's a little bit hard to label actually.

  221. But that's then you said what? Shield of Faith.

  222. OK anymore? Sword of the Spirit, Helmet of

  223. Salvation. All right, so now is there

  224. another one in there? That seems like it should be in

  225. there, but it isn't quite an armor isn't quite a piece of

  226. something praying, yes, prayer, praying in the spirit at all

  227. times or prayer right. Like, like prayer is that one

  228. underneath the sword of the spirit, which is the word of

  229. God, but it doesn't have a, a, a piece of armor attached to it.

  230. And so it's interesting to think there's, I like to say there's 6

  231. + 6 plus there's more than six, but there's, there's not at the

  232. same time 6.1. But anyway, prayer is its own

  233. thing. And so you could think of it

  234. like this if you want. I don't want to steal all the

  235. Thunder when we get to that. But you've got the armor.

  236. And now prayer is kind of what brings it all together with some

  237. confidence, with remembering all the things, all the pieces of

  238. the armor we need to remember through prayer and through the

  239. word of God. Word of God in prayer actually

  240. work together very symbiotically as well.

  241. I actually heard it said once that I know you've probably

  242. heard me say this before, but if a man or a woman reads more than

  243. they pray or prays more than they read, well, it's like

  244. having two legs and one's longer than the other.

  245. You got to try to figure out how to get them to both be even.

  246. Otherwise, your walk is a little bit funny if you're not reading

  247. and praying equal amounts or if you're stronger in one, try to

  248. get stronger in the other. Anyway, so that's the pieces.

  249. Yes, there are 6 pieces of armor.

  250. God provides the armor, so let's move on.

  251. These are it right here. The belt of truth, breastplate

  252. of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of readiness, shield of

  253. faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, and the

  254. bonus of prayer. So let's move on to these

  255. verses, finishing 11 and 12. Put on the whole armour of God,

  256. that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the

  257. devil. For we do not wrestle against

  258. flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,

  259. against the cosmic powers, over this present darkness, against

  260. the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places.

  261. So the question is, who are we doing war against here?

  262. That's my question. I'd like anybody to answer that.

  263. Maybe it's one, maybe it's one answer, or maybe it's multiple.

  264. Who are we doing war against according to this verse?

  265. The devil, all right. And he's mentioned in verse 11

  266. schemes of the devil. So who are these rulers,

  267. authorities, cosmic powers and spiritual forces?

  268. Because that's not just talking about the devil, is it?

  269. Who are they? What'd you say?

  270. Lori? And his army.

  271. OK, so Satan has an army. Does that mean that Satan is

  272. organized? Armies are pretty organized,

  273. right? The military is a pretty

  274. organized machine to some degree.

  275. Often, I think Satan drives this train.

  276. Also, every time we're teaching, he comes through trying to quiet

  277. us down. So all right, so Satan has an

  278. army. Yes.

  279. These rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, spiritual forces

  280. of evil, I would all call demons.

  281. These are all the demonic realm. And the demonic realm ruled by

  282. Satan as the leader has an organizational structure which

  283. are called authorities rulers. Powers and spiritual forces and

  284. where we get this from, I guess is we we've got to go to other

  285. places of Scripture. So Daniel 1013, if somebody

  286. could grab Daniel 1013, somebody else grabbed Jude 19.

  287. Who's going to do that? Raise your hand if you've got

  288. one or the other. OK, Leanna's got what?

  289. Daniel 10130, you got Jude 19-K. Hold on to that.

  290. Who's God? Daniel 10/13 OK, go ahead and

  291. read that for us. Daniel 1013.

  292. Be loud if you can. OK, I'll reread that.

  293. It says the Prince of the Kingdom of Persia withstood me

  294. 21 days. But Michael, one of the chief

  295. Princess, came to me, for I was left there with the kings of

  296. Persia. What is going on here?

  297. This is Michael. Here is Michael the Archangel.

  298. OK, so this is talking about a spiritual battle between angels

  299. and demons. And the demon there is called a

  300. Prince, while the Angel is also called a chief Prince.

  301. So both in the spiritual realm, angels and demons have these

  302. these roles, these authoritative roles, this organized structure

  303. of where what Daniel would say is he's the Prince of the

  304. Kingdom of Persia. That could be talking about.

  305. A lot of theologians believe that's talking about and a demon

  306. who has authority over a place, because remember, Satan and the

  307. demons are not omnipresent. Only God is omnipresent, which

  308. means everywhere all at once. OK, Satan cannot be everywhere

  309. all at once. He is just a fallen Angel.

  310. We're going to get into who he is.

  311. And demons are the same thing, fallen angels, They are not

  312. everywhere all at once, reading everybody's mind all at once.

  313. No, in order for them to play out this spiritual warfare, they

  314. have to be organized and they've got to communicate to one

  315. another. They've got to have a way to

  316. communicate to one another and to kind of disseminate orders

  317. and give directives and things like that.

  318. And so they each have their own provinces and areas.

  319. I know that sounds kind of weird, but this is the reality

  320. of it. Let's go to what is Jude 19 say?

  321. OK, so that's talking about in the book of Jude, apparently the

  322. Archangel Michael was was fighting with the devil over the

  323. body of Moses when he died at his burial.

  324. Things that weren't exactly mentioned back at that time.

  325. You know, I think that's in Deuteronomy where it talks about

  326. Moses died and right before it goes into the book of Joshua.

  327. But that gives us some idea that there were spiritual forces at

  328. play back then. So there are there are angels

  329. and demons fighting against Revelation 12, seven.

  330. Let me just let me read that to you.

  331. Revelation 12/7 says now war arose in heaven, Michael and his

  332. angels fighting against the dragon, and the dragon and his

  333. angels fought back. So this again tells us that

  334. there are there's a spiritual war going on.

  335. We can't even see it. And it's been going on since

  336. before humans ever came onto the earth.

  337. Because let's get into who the devil is.

  338. We need to know our enemy, yes. Well, yeah, to some degree

  339. because of things like the book of Job, where in the beginning

  340. of Job chapter 1, it says that Satan and and the other sons of

    Job 1 chapter mention

  341. God came into God's presence and brought this accusation against

  342. Job. And so somehow got in a in the

  343. heavenly realm. Like when it talks about heaven,

  344. there's a heavenly realm, a spiritual realm where these

  345. forces actually can communicate with one another.

  346. Yes, yes. And when we're talking about

  347. heavenly places, you know, right now.

  348. So we, we believe in a heaven and a hell, but it's not quite

  349. the eternal state of heaven and hell.

  350. Jesus tells the parable about the rich man and Lazarus and the

  351. rich man dies, goes to what is hell now, where he is in anguish

  352. in a flame and he begs for water and he and he begs that someone

  353. would go tell his brothers not to come to this place.

  354. But from far off he sees Abraham carrying Lazarus in the bosom

  355. and and it says there's a great chasm and we can't, can't

  356. crossover. And so maybe from that in other

  357. places, we understand that there is a spiritual realm where

  358. humans can't interact in their state of judgement or in their

  359. state of glory with God. If you go to heaven, your, your

  360. spirit is with God. You go to hell, you're in

  361. judgement. There's no interacting on that

  362. part. But as far as the angels go and

  363. demons, there's a there's a sense in which we don't fully

  364. understand how they can move in and out of.

  365. Yeah, there's a battle going on. So now I believe so.

  366. This is the thing though. We always want to blame just the

  367. devil and the demons for the spiritual warfare going on.

  368. We need to be aware of that, and we're going to get into that.

  369. But I also want us to look at there are three enemies, not

  370. just the devil's one of them, but does anybody know the other

  371. two enemies that we are at war with in this spiritual battle

  372. flesh. There's one more, one more enemy

  373. that we are at at war with. Well, let, let's let me read

  374. this verse to you and maybe you can answer the question.

  375. Ephesians 2, two and three. It says in verse one, it says we

  376. were dead in our trespasses and sins in two in which we once

  377. walked following the course of this world, following the Prince

  378. of the power of the air, that Satan, the spirit that is now

  379. working, the sons of disobedience among whom we all

  380. once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the

  381. desires of the body and the mind.

  382. And we're by nature, children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

  383. I like how that rhymes at the end there, you know?

  384. Anyway, so we talked about the devil.

  385. We talked about flesh. What's the other one?

  386. The world? The world.

  387. The world. OK, so we're going to walk

  388. through as quick as we can. Not that we have to end right at

  389. 10, I don't think. But these three people or three

  390. forces at work against us in spiritual warfare.

  391. First we have the devil. He is the word devil means

  392. slanderer or Satan means adversary who has an angelic

  393. being who fell from his position in heaven due to sin and is now

  394. completely opposed to God doing all in his power to thwart God's

  395. purposes. You guys know the story that

  396. before humanity was created there was a war in heaven.

  397. Some believe that Revelation 12 that's actually talking about

  398. that. Some believe that that's talking

  399. about something in the future. But Satan and his demons were

  400. cast out of heaven in in Revelation, it calls 1/3 of the

  401. stars of heaven. But Satanist demons were cast

  402. out of heaven because in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel, what is it

  403. Ezekiel? I have the verses here anywhere,

  404. somewhere in Ezekiel. There are two places in these

  405. these in the Old Testament that simultaneously are talking about

  406. a king and Satan at the same time and it talks about him

  407. being cast out of heaven. Revelation tells us the same

  408. thing because of pride, because he said I will ascend to the

  409. throne. And in Isaiah 14, I will

  410. they're, they're called the five I wills of Satan in Isaiah 1412

  411. through 15. I'm not going to read them, but

  412. if you want to take notes, go look at those verses.

  413. So who is Satan? Oh yeah, it's Ezekiel 2813

  414. through 17 as well. So Satan is fiercely, fiercely

  415. opposed to God's work. Satan rules the fallen world

  416. system in rebellion against God. He is the liar and father of the

  417. lies, as Jesus says. He's come to steal, kill and

  418. destroy again. Jesus says that and John, he's

  419. on the hunt for vulnerable Christians first.

  420. Peter, 58, talks about he's a roaring lion ready to devour.

  421. Satan's greatest tool is deceit because he is the liar and

  422. father of lies and he will one day face God's judgment and

  423. demons. Then our fallen angels who who

  424. are cast out of heaven. Grudem says sometime before

  425. Satan tempted Eve in the garden, a number of angels sinned and

  426. rebelled against God. So let's look at second Peter 2

  427. verse four and Jude 6. Leanna, you already had Jude.

  428. Are you still close to that Jude verse 6?

  429. Somebody else read Second Peter 424.

  430. OK, go ahead. OK, so he's saying God did not

  431. spare angels but put them in chains of darkness to be kept to

  432. judgment. What does Jude 6 say?

  433. OK, so there apparently are demons that are being kept in

  434. chains. Well, now trying to understand

  435. what that means is a little bit difficult because this is this

  436. is apocalyptic language, This is spiritual language.

  437. We don't know if there's literal change in the spiritual realm.

  438. Just like in Revelation chapter 20, it says that there was an

    Revelation 20 chapter mention

  439. Angel who came down from heaven with a great chain and he bound

  440. Satan and put him in a pit and had a key and locked him with

  441. the. Is that talking about a literal

  442. chain with a literal key? That's the biggest, biggest

  443. argument about the end times. There is actually is trying to

  444. understand that passage about a a literal 1000 year reign

  445. Millennium thing, right? So many people disagree about

  446. the chain is a figurative chain that binds them in a sense.

  447. Not completely, but binds him from completely taking over the

  448. whole world, binds him from completely deceiving people so

  449. bad that nobody can understand the gospel.

  450. So. But evidently some demons are

  451. bound and waiting for judgement. There are there are demons also

  452. that are on the that roam the earth, just like Satan can roam

  453. the earth and they have limited power.

  454. Again, they're not omniscient, they don't know everything,

  455. they're not everywhere all at once.

  456. They are smart though. And let me just say it this way.

  457. If you existed for at least 6000 years or more, however long, I

  458. don't know when all things were created, especially in heaven

  459. before earth was created. But if demons existed and has

  460. has has observed us human beings for the last 6000 years and they

  461. don't die, they would gain a lot of knowledge about humanity and

  462. how it works, right? I mean, you ever been in a close

  463. relationship with someone, a kid, a wife or a friend?

  464. You just, you can complete their sentences, you know what they're

  465. going to do just based on habit. And that's only after a couple

  466. of years. Imagine these well organized

  467. appointed spiritual beings in countries and States and cities

  468. and provinces that are watching people assigned to families and

  469. groups of people to take notes, to learn what they're doing, to

  470. figure out how to thwart their plans, to stir up their own

  471. rebellion against God. I mean, again, now here's a

  472. controversial one. But demons cannot possess a

  473. Christian. Demons cannot completely take

  474. over a true believer who has the Spirit of God.

  475. Now they could oppress A believer.

  476. And if a believer is given in too much sin, like drunkenness

  477. or, you know, different things, I think you're inviting satanic

  478. or demonic influence into your life when you take in substances

  479. like alcohol and drugs, so much so that you're inebriated.

  480. You've now given over control of yourself to whatever wants to

  481. take control, you know, So in a sense.

  482. And, and by the way, you know, Paul talks about, you know this

  483. in Ephesians 4 in the sin list and he calls it, what's that?

  484. What's that word in Ephesians chapter 4?

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  485. He calls it, it's like a, a spell or a kind of a witchcraft

  486. sounding type of a word. And my, my, my Bible's not

  487. working right now for some reason.

  488. Ephesians chapter 4 in the in the sin list.

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  489. Is there a sin list in chapter 4?

  490. Maybe I'm wrong. That's maybe it's talking about

  491. don't be filled with wine, which leads to bakery.

  492. Maybe it's in Galatians. I don't know.

  493. But it talks about oh, sorcery. That's the word sorcery when it

  494. says the word sorcery. The word in Greek is pharmakeia,

  495. which comes from our word for where we get pharmaceuticals and

  496. pharmacy. What are those drugs?

  497. Right. Well, why is he bringing that up

  498. as a a sin? Because pagans have used drugs

  499. and alcohol and certain, you know, medicinal herbs to have

  500. kind of a euphoric experience, not just for recreation, but

  501. also to communicate with deities who are, there are no other

  502. deities or heavenly beings or other gods.

  503. The only spiritual beings are God and angels or Satan and

  504. demons. And so every time any religion

  505. is reaching out to some kind of deity, they're actually, Paul

  506. says in I think 1st Corinthians 10, what they offer as sacrifice

  507. to gods. They give to demons and not to

  508. gods. And So what I would say, I think

  509. MacArthur actually said this very well, and I agree with it,

  510. was any false religion is worshipping a demon.

  511. And it's not just human forces that set up that false religion

  512. with all of its history and all of its false teaching, with all

  513. of its books. In fact, a demon is at the head

  514. of every false church. This is the battle we're facing.

  515. OK, let's talk about the other two, the other two that we're

  516. fighting the world. The world is an organized

  517. system, ideas and ideologies in opposition and rebellion against

  518. God. Satan is actually not only

  519. leader of the demons, but the second Corinthians 4/4 says he

  520. is the God of this world who's blinded the minds of unbelievers

  521. or the Prince of the power of the air, which we just read in

  522. Ephesians chapter 2. Satan has a lot of influence in

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  523. the world. He uses his demons as this

  524. organized system to communicate to people in power, to push

  525. ideologies, false teachings, false religions on to the world.

  526. I think it's first John 216 is a verse that says the lust of the

  527. flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

  528. That is the world. Everything that you can see.

  529. I wish I had that right. The lust of the eyes, the lust

  530. of the flesh is is passions and desires.

  531. The pride of life is, you know, the success, and we look out at

  532. the world and we see, you know, kind of.

  533. The way things operate and, and, and and sometimes we look at it

  534. and we're like envious and covetous.

  535. I want this, I want that. I want their possessions.

  536. I want to live like them. I want to have as much money as

  537. them. I want to have as much power as

  538. they do. And how did they get there?

  539. I want to get there. It's all a ruse to try to get us

  540. distracted, getting us to really say we yeah, we're believers, we

  541. love God. But I think we sometimes, if

  542. some people are honest or maybe in our own cells, we have idols,

  543. idolatry and Satan. Not only the Satan is is trying

  544. to invent idols for us to go worship out there in the world.

  545. Colossians 28 says they see to it that no one takes you captive

  546. by philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition,

  547. according to the elemental spirits of the world and not

  548. according to Christ. There's philosophy and human

  549. tradition that set itself up against God, philosophies and

  550. ideologies pushed by even our government systems and school

  551. systems. I love, you know, Vodi Baucom

  552. passed away and man, I love that guy.

  553. I mean, he was my number one guy that I went to for just about

  554. everything. And one of the things he said,

  555. which I agree with, and I'm going to say this caveating that

  556. I have my own child is in public school, but he said he said

  557. this. He says if we keep sending our

  558. children to Caesar, then don't be surprised that they come back

  559. Romans because the government ultimately who leads and and

  560. rules what's going to be taught and educated in our public

  561. schools. Also, not all of it's bad.

  562. Math's not bad, right? English is all right, you know,

  563. but but when we get to things that are theoretical or, or

  564. political or ideologies that are just one guy's stance or

  565. opinion, I mean, that's when the war sets in, in our kids.

  566. And we better, if we're sending them to public school, we better

  567. be having more influence than they get 6 hours a day there.

  568. And that is difficult. That is very difficult.

  569. And so that's one that we need to keep our eye on.

  570. I think that's the world now. The last one is the flesh.

  571. It is a compulsive inner force inherited from man's fall, which

  572. expresses itself in general and specific rebellion against God

  573. and his righteousness, our own flesh, talking about the

  574. passions of the flesh, the desires of the body.

  575. And it's not talking about our physical bodies, because when

  576. God created our physical bodies, he said it's all good,

  577. everything is good. We weren't created evil, but we

  578. did fall. And so the fall causes this,

  579. this built in nature. Now that's in us that only wants

  580. to go the sinful way. We're bored.

  581. And that's why in Ephesians 2 it says we were born dead.

  582. We are dead in our trespasses and sins.

  583. We are spiritually dead because of the fall, the inherited

  584. nature. Even though we have a physical

  585. body that's living, we have a dead spiritual nature that

  586. actually wants to side with the world and side with Satan until

  587. we're born again. When we get born again, we get

  588. the new nature of the Holy Spirit, God's nature put in US.

  589. And now when you become a Christian, now there's a war,

  590. internal war, the Spirit and the flesh.

  591. Galatians chapter 5 has a lot to say about this war.

    Galatians 5 chapter mention

  592. It says the sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the

  593. opposite of what the Spirit wants.

  594. The Spirit gives us desires that are opposite of what the sinful

  595. nature desires. These two forces are constantly

  596. fighting each other, so you're not free to carry out your good

  597. intentions. So the spiritual battle from

  598. without and from within, we need to remember that three enemies,

  599. the world, the flesh and the devil, Romans 87 the sinful

  600. nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's law and

  601. it never will. We're all included, even non

  602. believers. They don't have the Spirit of

  603. God, but they still are fighting against the world, the flesh and

  604. the devil too. They just don't know it and

  605. probably don't care. Nobody is exempt from this

  606. battle as a human. So I want to close then with

  607. this last verse for the day. Therefore, take up the whole

  608. armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil

  609. day that's today and all the days before this was written to

  610. now 2000 of them, 2000 years of them having done all to stand

  611. firm. How do we wage war according to

  612. these verses? Let's hear some answers.

  613. How do we wage war? By God?

  614. His strength, right? God's strength.

  615. We saw that in the first verse, Ephesians 316.

  616. If we keep going back to our text in the context of what this

  617. was written, Ephesians 316 that according to the riches of his

  618. glory, He may grant you to be strengthened with power through

  619. his spirit in your inner being. We get the power through his

  620. spirit in our inner being. We need to remember we have the

  621. Spirit of God another. What's another good principle on

  622. how to do war? Who, who?

  623. What information do you have to know who you're fighting?

  624. Have you seen my notes? Knowing the enemy, You've got to

  625. know the enemy. Who's the enemy again?

  626. Tell me the three word The the world, the flesh and the devil.

  627. The world, the flesh and the devil.

  628. And then next, what did that verse?

  629. What is this whole section telling us to do?

  630. Fight. How are we going to fight?

  631. What are we supposed to do? The major imperative is to put

  632. something on, put on the armor of God.

  633. We're putting it on or taking it up.

  634. In the in the different verses it says put it on or take it up.

  635. What does this mean? It's like putting on clothes.

  636. It's a daily ritual. I hope you put on clothes every

  637. day. You know when you get up.

  638. I'm sure you all do, right? It would be weird if you didn't.

  639. Why is it that we do this as a ritual?

  640. Because it's just socially a thing I need to do and sometimes

  641. forget. We've got to put on the

  642. spiritual clothes, right? Spiritual clothes, put them on.

  643. We need to have those habits and disciplines to remember, and

  644. we're going to learn that in the series what those are.

  645. And then finally, what do we do with this armor?

  646. It says we're wrestling. We're fighting as as Leanna

  647. said, but just remember, this is spiritual fighting, not

  648. physical, spiritually wrestling. And then finally standing firm,

  649. you know what's, it's always fun.

  650. I've never been over to, you know, London.

  651. But I always see videos of those, the, the Queen's Guard.

  652. And all they do is stand there, you know, and people go up to

  653. them and they take pictures next to them and they're trying to

  654. get them to, to do something. And they won't do anything until

  655. you get too close. And then they're pretty scary,

  656. honestly. I mean, I've seen, I've seen

  657. them if somebody gets in their face or pushes them or spits on

  658. them, they'll eventually like do something, you know, after

  659. several warnings. So I get that in my mind when I

  660. think of standing firm, that dude is not letting anything bug

  661. him. Like a lot of words are

  662. happening and he is standing still.

  663. Sometimes we're so unsteady, right?

  664. Like on when things are happening in the world all

  665. around us, we're tossed to and fro.

  666. We can't stand still. And that's, that's part of the

  667. battle is not being fooled into the little childish things that

  668. the enemy is doing. Somebody read Exodus 1412

  669. through 14? Somebody want to read that for

  670. us? Exodus 1412 through 14,

  671. Anybody have it? Do you want a microphone?

  672. You don't want a microphone here.

  673. Say it loud, OK? Didn't we say to you in Egypt,

  674. leave us alone, Let us serve the Egyptians.

  675. It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to

  676. die in the desert. Moses answered to the people.

  677. Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the

  678. deliverance the Lord will bring you today.

  679. The Egyptians will see you today you will never see again.

  680. The Lord will fight for you. You only need to be still.

  681. Isn't that beautiful? Stand firm, the Lord will fight

  682. for you. We need to learn how to what it

  683. means to stand firm instead of getting, you know, distracted

  684. and pulled off of our post like that standing warrior, that word

  685. stand firm means to maintain or abide.

  686. You've heard that before to abide in the the Christian life.

  687. Keep doing the things you need to do.

  688. This life is about disciplines and habits and rituals.

  689. That and listen to this last verse and I'll close with this.

  690. It says in Thessalonians 2:15. So then, brothers, stand firm

  691. and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by

  692. our spoken word or by our letter.

  693. There are rituals, habits, traditions that come from

  694. scripture that we need to keep doing over and over again, and

  695. we will be ready to fight this battle.

  696. Thank you for being here in this first introduction to the

  697. series. I'm excited about it.

  698. God bless you guys and you have any questions or need prayer?

  699. Let me know. But otherwise, let's get some

  700. coffee and greet some people.
