  1. We brought nothing

  2. into this world and we

  3. will take nothing out.

  4. Just this right here.

  5. Well, not even

  6. this flesh gets

  7. to go right.

  8. Just this heart.

  9. And man, what a

  10. gift that we have

  11. to give to the Lord.

  12. Hit praise and

  13. adoration and love.

  14. It's pretty

  15. awesome stuff.

  16. Well, we've been

  17. talking about the

  18. Jesus Way, right?

  19. Practicing the ways of

  20. Jesus as an apprentice

  21. of Jesus the Savior.

  22. Now, last week we

  23. had a really neat

  24. time talking about

  25. generosity and a

  26. couple of ladies

  27. shared from their

  28. trip to the hurricane

  29. relief, and then I

  30. had a chance to preach

  31. for about 15 minutes.

  32. Eric, Derek,

  33. come on up here.

  34. Blake.

  35. Blake.

  36. Hey Chris.

  37. Go grab Derrick Blake,

  38. would you come on

  39. up here, man, come.

  40. No, come up here.

  41. I need you.

  42. Grace.

  43. Grace, I need

  44. your help.

  45. Come here.

  46. I just, I wanna,

  47. I wanna honor the

  48. people who serve.

  49. Because if you stay

  50. with me, this is

  51. a segue, serve.

  52. Don't lose sight

  53. of that word.

  54. There's a lot of

  55. people who work

  56. hard and serve as

  57. part of White Rock,

  58. uh, all week long

  59. doing lots of stuff.

  60. And especially

  61. on a Sunday.

  62. There's lots of

  63. moving parts.

  64. And these guys up

  65. here, people on the

  66. worship team and the

  67. sound booth next door,

  68. huge crew working with

  69. the kids, greeters,

  70. all kinds of stuff.

  71. Coffee bar stuff

  72. people are serving

  73. all the time.

  74. Youth ministry

  75. during the week and

  76. children's ministry

  77. stuff all over.

  78. Like great,

  79. great stuff.

  80. So there's a lot

  81. of people who serve

  82. really hard and their

  83. hearts for service

  84. are beautiful.

  85. And so try to listen

  86. real intently.

  87. Last Sunday, I had

  88. about 15 minutes after

  89. the ladies were done

  90. to share with you

  91. generosity, right?

  92. And I was excited

  93. because this beautiful

  94. picture of the hand

  95. posture, which is

  96. really the heart

  97. posture of generosity,

  98. is this open

  99. handedness, right?

  100. That everything I

  101. have is the Lord's

  102. whatever he wants,

  103. whatever he chooses.

  104. My hands are open.

  105. They're not balled

  106. up in a fist

  107. holding my stuff

  108. towards God, but.

  109. Man, my, my hands

  110. are open, ready to

  111. receive what he wants,

  112. but to take anything

  113. that's his 'cause.

  114. It's all his, right,

  115. everything I have

  116. and I was excited to

  117. unpack, you know, I

  118. only got 15 minutes,

  119. but that's okay.

  120. I knew that the Lord

  121. would use it, but as

  122. soon as the ladies

  123. went down the stairs,

  124. my good friend Derrick

  125. Blake in the back

  126. by the door, right

  127. where Daniel is.

  128. Daniel, I'm gonna

  129. have to have you

  130. help a minute.

  131. Okay.

  132. You watching Derek

  133. started doing this.

  134. Okay.

  135. Right, right.

  136. To which I thought

  137. maybe this is my

  138. friend Derek harassing

  139. me because what

  140. does this mean?

  141. Hurry up.

  142. Thank you.

  143. Yes.

  144. So, uh, uh, uh,

  145. just, just a second.

  146. Keep it rolling.

  147. No hurry up.

  148. Right?

  149. So couple minutes

  150. went by and Derek's

  151. looking through the

  152. window and then he

  153. steps out the entryway

  154. and then he comes

  155. back and again, does.

  156. Right.

  157. So I start

  158. talking faster.

  159. Well, by the

  160. seventh time

  161. you're walking by.

  162. Yeah.

  163. Yeah.

  164. It's a gift, right?

  165. It is a gift.

  166. Should have been this

  167. Sunday, because we're

  168. all gonna be hungry

  169. an hour earlier.

  170. Right.

  171. But by the seventh

  172. time, I was pretty

  173. certain that we had

  174. an ambulance out

  175. there and somebody

  176. in real trouble

  177. and a real problem.

  178. And I better wrap

  179. this crazy sermon

  180. up and go, right.

  181. So I get done, I

  182. start to walk to

  183. the back, and I look

  184. down on my watch and

  185. I have my phone and

  186. it's 1124, right?

  187. And 1130 is our

  188. normal time.

  189. I'm like, dude, I went

  190. as fast as I could.

  191. And Derek's first

  192. words were What?

  193. Oh, keep going.

  194. You almost, you

  195. almost made it, man.

  196. You missed it because

  197. what were you trying

  198. to tell me to do?

  199. Well keep it going.

  200. Keep it rolling.

  201. Stretch it out.

  202. Yeah.

  203. Stretch it out.

  204. Yeah.

  205. Stretch it out.

  206. Yeah.

  207. Keep going.

  208. Stretch it out.

  209. Keep going.

  210. Stretch it out, right?

  211. Keep going.

  212. Yep.

  213. So, just because I

  214. want to give Eric

  215. some props, because

  216. these two guys, if

  217. you know him, they,

  218. they're, they're like.

  219. Same brother,

  220. different mother

  221. kind of thing, right?

  222. So walking across

  223. the parking lot after

  224. harassing Derek for

  225. a few minutes, I see

  226. Eric walk by and I

  227. said, Eric, Eric,

  228. what does this mean?

  229. I mean, you want

  230. to keep going.

  231. You want that?

  232. Yeah, that's

  233. what he said.

  234. Like, stretch it

  235. out, keep it going.

  236. I just want to

  237. acknowledge as we

  238. talk for a few minutes

  239. today about the

  240. practice of service so

  241. many people who serve,

  242. and we are gonna work

  243. on our hand signals.

  244. So we get this

  245. squared away.

  246. We'll have a little

  247. laminated sheet

  248. in the back, but

  249. big round applause

  250. for these guys.

  251. We work hard.

  252. Thank you fellas.

  253. And uh, I'm just

  254. looking forward to it.

  255. About five

  256. years, everybody.

  257. Yeah.

  258. Everybody's gonna be

  259. doing this, right?

  260. Like, yeah, yeah.

  261. No, they're not.

  262. No, no.

  263. Almost stretch it out.

  264. You guys do

  265. this to me.

  266. Jamie, you start

  267. doing this.

  268. I'm stretching it out.

  269. I just want you

  270. to know I learned.

  271. I learned.

  272. So if you got to lunch

  273. early last week, thank

  274. Derek because, uh, I

  275. was really worried and

  276. it, it all worked out.

  277. It was beautiful.

  278. Put your hands in

  279. your pocket buddy.

  280. Put your hands

  281. in your pocket.

  282. So service is actually

  283. the pro the practice

  284. that we're gonna talk

  285. just a little bit

  286. about this morning.

  287. We've got some special

  288. things we're gonna

  289. do, but if we go

  290. to Mark chapter 10,

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  291. Jesus says that for

  292. even the son of man

  293. did not come to be

  294. served, but to serve

  295. and to give his life

  296. as a ransom for many.

  297. And so Jesus, the

  298. master, showed

  299. us his servants.

  300. That service is

  301. what it really means

  302. to be a disciple

  303. and a follower

  304. and an apprentice.

  305. If you go back to

  306. August 25th, we talked

  307. about these little

  308. silver rings, ss, and

  309. we are talking about

  310. the big church picture

  311. of Sunday worship

  312. gathering and small

  313. group discipleship

  314. and serving.

  315. And we went in depth

  316. in a lot of ways

  317. talking about what

  318. it means to serve.

  319. And specifically we

  320. looked at the idea of

  321. serving one another.

  322. That was to to serve

  323. the body of Christ,

  324. the family of God,

  325. and to not neglect.

  326. The family of God in

  327. our service and to

  328. really make sure that

  329. we engage in that.

  330. So serving within

  331. our faith community,

  332. super important thing.

  333. And this morning I

  334. want to stretch this

  335. thought a little bit

  336. and kind of expand

  337. our boundaries just

  338. a little bit to look

  339. more at service to

  340. our whole community

  341. as followers of

  342. Jesus Christ.

  343. 'cause man, our

  344. world needs the

  345. love of Jesus.

  346. And the biggest way we

  347. get a chance to share

  348. his love is in serving

  349. others and loving our

  350. neighbor as ourself.

  351. So I'm gonna invite

  352. Jackie Allen to sneak

  353. up here and uh, I'll

  354. take a back seat to

  355. her for a few minutes

  356. and we've been kind

  357. of coordinating over

  358. the last few weeks

  359. when best to give you

  360. this shot at some fun.

  361. But Jackie and Abby

  362. Savoy and Maria

  363. Hunt all oversee

  364. our really cool rock

  365. solid families, family

  366. advocacy ministry.

  367. And so Jackie's gonna

  368. share some exciting

  369. things, some cool

  370. things, and uh,

  371. then I'm gonna wrap

  372. up just a little

  373. bit at the end.

  374. Well, thank you guys.

  375. I'm so excited to be

  376. here this morning.

  377. Um, so we wanted to

  378. take a few minutes

  379. this morning, um, to

  380. kind of reintroduce

  381. this ministry.

  382. This is something that

  383. has been in existence

  384. for about four years

  385. and I think it kind

  386. of comes in waves

  387. when we have a lot

  388. of work and a lot of

  389. ministry that we do.

  390. And then we kind

  391. of have some

  392. downtime in between.

  393. So, um, we kind of

  394. wanted to start by

  395. just reintroducing

  396. what this ministry

  397. is for those of

  398. you who may not be

  399. familiar with it.

  400. Um, and yeah, we'll

  401. talk about that.

  402. Um, I know Maria

  403. would've loved

  404. to be here.

  405. Mark, we're continuing

  406. to pray for her

  407. healing this week,

  408. and I know Abby is not

  409. complaining about not

  410. being on the stage.

  411. So I said I would

  412. be happy to do this

  413. myself this morning.

  414. Yes.

  415. So we're gonna

  416. start out with

  417. a short video.

  418. We work in partnership

  419. with a ministry called

  420. Hands of Hope, which

  421. is headquartered

  422. in Noblesville,

  423. which is awesome.

  424. They work throughout

  425. the state of Indiana.

  426. Um, and so they

  427. have put together

  428. this video.

  429. So let's start here.

  430. Meet Abby.

  431. She's a foster child

  432. and like 400,000 other

  433. children in the United

  434. States just like her.

  435. She stands in

  436. line for a foster

  437. care system that

  438. struggles mightily

  439. to provide children

  440. with loving homes.

  441. The cost of

  442. that struggle

  443. is staggering.

  444. Did you know that

  445. over 60% of American

  446. children caught up in

  447. sex trafficking come

  448. out of foster care,

  449. or that there are

  450. several states where

  451. over half the prison

  452. inmates come from

  453. the foster system,

  454. or that the majority

  455. of girls who age out

  456. of foster care become

  457. pregnant within two

  458. years, perpetuating

  459. the cycle of

  460. generational poverty.

  461. Abby needs more than

  462. a roof over her head.

  463. She needs a home.

  464. She needs more

  465. than this state.

  466. She needs a father

  467. and a mother.

  468. She needs consistent

  469. and sincere

  470. love, nurturing,

  471. accountability,

  472. and hope.

  473. Hands of hope exists

  474. to defend the cause

  475. of the fatherless

  476. and encourage

  477. the oppressed.

  478. Based off the

  479. biblical directive

  480. in Isaiah one 17,

  481. we are committed

  482. to be the hands of

  483. hope specifically

  484. for foster care.

  485. When we compare

  486. the number of kids

  487. in need of homes

  488. with the number of

  489. churches in America,

  490. a simple arithmetic

  491. becomes clear.

  492. If each church could

  493. raise up one foster

  494. family, we would

  495. be able to take all

  496. children in the foster

  497. system and place

  498. them in the care

  499. of a loving home.

  500. Hands of hope

  501. exists to encourage

  502. and equip these

  503. churches to raise

  504. up loving families

  505. and volunteers

  506. committed to caring

  507. for kids like Abby.

  508. We will achieve

  509. this in three ways.

  510. First, we use church

  511. awareness campaigns to

  512. inspire new families

  513. to express God's love

  514. by giving homes to

  515. children in need.

  516. Second, we provide

  517. an engineered care

  518. community to surround

  519. foster families

  520. with love and

  521. support, which keeps

  522. approved families

  523. fostering longer.

  524. Third, and finally, we

  525. provide many practical

  526. opportunities in which

  527. anyone can love and

  528. serve these children.

  529. Abby needs help.

  530. Churches want to help.

  531. Hands of hope helps

  532. churches by giving

  533. them clear direction

  534. and concrete actions

  535. to take hands of

  536. hope, helps Abby

  537. and many more like

  538. her by raising up

  539. families who want to

  540. defend and encourage

  541. by taking action.

  542. The need is great.

  543. The time is now.

  544. Let us be the hands

  545. of hope together.

  546. All right, so I think

  547. that video does a

  548. really good job of

  549. just kind of painting

  550. the overall picture

  551. of how desperate

  552. this need is in

  553. the United States.

  554. Um, these are some

  555. recent numbers

  556. though, which are,

  557. think are helpful.

  558. So in August of 2024

  559. in Hamilton County

  560. specifically, there

  561. were 158 children

  562. who needed services

  563. from DCS, which

  564. is the Department

  565. of Child Services.

  566. And 44 of those

  567. were needing home

  568. out of home slash

  569. non-relative

  570. foster care.

  571. Um, if we look in the

  572. Bible, we see right

  573. here in Mark nine

  574. that Jesus was taking

  575. the child in his arms

  576. and he said to them.

  577. Whoever welcomes

  578. one of these little

  579. children in my

  580. name welcomes me.

  581. And whoever welcomes

  582. me does not welcome

  583. me, but welcomes

  584. the one who sent me.

  585. And so we believe

  586. that caring for

  587. vulnerable families

  588. is very important to

  589. Jesus and should also

  590. be important to us

  591. here at White Rock.

  592. Um, so like I

  593. mentioned about four

  594. years ago, we launched

  595. a ministry that we,

  596. uh, called Rock Solid

  597. Families, and we

  598. prayed about it and

  599. decided that Matthew

  600. 7 24 to 25 would

  601. kind of be the basis

  602. for this ministry.

  603. And so it says,

  604. therefore, everyone

  605. who hears these words

  606. of mind and puts them

  607. into practice is like

  608. a wise man who built

  609. his house on the rock.

  610. The rain came down

  611. and the streams rose,

  612. and the winds blew

  613. and beat against that

  614. house, yet it did

  615. not fall because it

  616. had its foundation

  617. on the rock.

  618. Recently, we've been

  619. talking a lot about

  620. these practices

  621. of Jesus, of being

  622. an apprentice of

  623. Jesus and caring

  624. for families and

  625. children in need is

  626. an important part

  627. of these practices.

  628. So what can we do?

  629. Um, we kind of have a

  630. three-pronged ministry

  631. that is, they already

  632. kind of mentioned

  633. in that video,

  634. but let me mention

  635. it to you again.

  636. So one element is

  637. church awareness

  638. and education.

  639. So yesterday for

  640. example, we were

  641. able to put on a,

  642. um, training called

  643. A Place to Belong.

  644. Thank you to everyone

  645. who came to that.

  646. I know there were

  647. people that did not,

  648. were not able to

  649. attend yesterday,

  650. and it was, honestly,

  651. it was super good.

  652. I want even better

  653. than I anticipated.

  654. So we're hoping to

  655. start doing that

  656. at least a couple

  657. times a year, maybe

  658. even quarterly.

  659. So keep an eye

  660. out for that.

  661. We're hoping to

  662. do another one in

  663. January or February.

  664. Um, and that training

  665. was specifically

  666. regards to.

  667. How can we be more,

  668. like the term is

  669. trauma informed, but

  670. how can we be more

  671. aware of how can

  672. we help children,

  673. especially who've

  674. come from backgrounds

  675. of trauma, um, and

  676. treat them in a way

  677. that is effective

  678. to sharing the love

  679. of Jesus with them.

  680. I would say too,

  681. Jackie, that the,

  682. what, 16 or 18 people

  683. that were there like

  684. probably stole a

  685. couple really good

  686. parenting tips that

  687. were just basic

  688. principles that were

  689. really well presented

  690. in the material.

  691. So even people who

  692. weren't looking

  693. at foster care or

  694. specifically working

  695. with trauma, uh,

  696. walked away with a lot

  697. of really good stuff.

  698. So there's some really

  699. big picture valuable

  700. resources that were

  701. offering in this

  702. thing too, that Yeah,

  703. I think we had just

  704. that the trainings

  705. that they do, I think

  706. are so concrete that

  707. they give really good,

  708. just like practical

  709. tools, not just like

  710. big picture, but hear

  711. how you can get down

  712. on the floor, face to

  713. face with a child and

  714. interact with them in

  715. a way that is really

  716. helpful, whether

  717. that child comes

  718. from a foster system.

  719. Or not, you know,

  720. any child who walks

  721. through our doors, we

  722. wanna be showing them

  723. the love of Jesus.

  724. So you're saying

  725. like, the next time

  726. we offer one of these

  727. people would be smart

  728. just to check it out?

  729. Hundred percent

  730. for free.

  731. Okay.

  732. It is free.

  733. Just wanna put a

  734. little plug in there.

  735. And we even had

  736. coffee and donuts.

  737. We'll probably

  738. do that again.

  739. So it's always

  740. the draw.

  741. All right, so then

  742. the second pro prong

  743. of our, kind of the

  744. work that we do as

  745. service projects.

  746. So, um, we've done

  747. different service

  748. projects in the past.

  749. We're hoping to

  750. keep doing more, but

  751. something that we

  752. just did recently

  753. and, um, this happened

  754. on the day I took my

  755. son to the hospital.

  756. So I did not, wasn't

  757. really in the right

  758. state of mind to get

  759. photos, unfortunately,

  760. but every October is,

  761. um, a month in which

  762. we kind of put focus

  763. toward appreciating

  764. the staff who work

  765. for the Department

  766. of Child Services.

  767. As you can imagine,

  768. um, especially

  769. licensed clinical

  770. social workers like

  771. Renee, um, do a

  772. lot of very, uh.

  773. Uh, difficult,

  774. stressful work, um,

  775. with taking children,

  776. trying to remove them

  777. from these places

  778. of abuse and neglect

  779. and bring them into

  780. a place of safety.

  781. Um, and it is

  782. taxing on their

  783. own mental status.

  784. And so we try to

  785. really just, um,

  786. even just, we took

  787. them lunch from

  788. Michelangelo's,

  789. the missions board

  790. helped us fund that.

  791. We wrote some cards

  792. of appreciation for

  793. them, um, just to

  794. help them know that

  795. they're not forgotten

  796. and the work that they

  797. do is appreciated,

  798. um, by those of us

  799. who are not doing

  800. that work every day.

  801. Mm-Hmm.

  802. And then the last

  803. big thing that we do

  804. is care communities.

  805. And so this is

  806. probably something

  807. that you guys have

  808. been more familiar

  809. with, but we're

  810. gonna talk a little

  811. bit more about

  812. this this morning.

  813. Um, and this is just

  814. kind of a really

  815. cool model where we

  816. can come and do what

  817. we call wraparound

  818. care, specifically

  819. for adoptive and

  820. foster families.

  821. Um, the people that

  822. are, you know, on

  823. the front lines of

  824. actually welcoming

  825. these children into

  826. their homes, um, being

  827. there through all

  828. the ups and downs and

  829. the court hearings.

  830. Um, the therapy

  831. appointments, meeting

  832. with their, um, what

  833. am I looking for?

  834. Their parents and all

  835. of those, yeah, their

  836. birth parents and

  837. all of those pieces.

  838. So it's a big

  839. responsibility.

  840. It's a lot of work

  841. for these families.

  842. And so for those of

  843. us who maybe, maybe

  844. you're feeling like,

  845. I don't have the time

  846. or the ability, or

  847. really the calling

  848. to actually step

  849. full time into foster

  850. care, but I still

  851. care about this.

  852. What can I do?

  853. Um, joining one of

  854. these communities

  855. to come around and

  856. do some practical

  857. work on this front

  858. is something that

  859. we have felt very

  860. honored to do.

  861. And so the biggest

  862. point here is

  863. that everyone

  864. can do something.

  865. So we've got a quick

  866. video here that's

  867. more specifically

  868. says, why do care?

  869. Communities matter.

  870. We're gonna

  871. watch that here.

  872. The foster care

  873. situation in the

  874. United States is dire.

  875. Over the past

  876. 20 years, at any

  877. given moment, there

  878. have been 400,000

  879. or more children

  880. in state custody

  881. across the country.

  882. Most states have a

  883. significant shortage

  884. of homes for the

  885. children flooding

  886. their child welfare

  887. systems, systems that

  888. are oftentimes broken

  889. or functioning at

  890. a strain capacity.

  891. In some states,

  892. children end up

  893. sleeping at the

  894. child welfare office

  895. or in extended

  896. stay hotels because

  897. there aren't enough

  898. available homes.

  899. Now, each of

  900. these children has

  901. experienced trauma.

  902. Simply the fact that

  903. they've been removed

  904. from their family and

  905. everything they've

  906. ever known and held

  907. dear is traumatic.

  908. Caring for children

  909. from hard places

  910. and working within a

  911. sometimes frustrating

  912. system makes fostering

  913. and adopting an

  914. isolating journey.

  915. A journey.

  916. Foster parents all

  917. too often give up on

  918. across the nation.

  919. Only 50% of foster

  920. families will continue

  921. fostering after

  922. their first year.

  923. However, when foster

  924. families are well

  925. supported with an

  926. equipped, organized,

  927. and committed

  928. care community,

  929. more than 90% will

  930. continue beyond

  931. that first year.

  932. Committing to serve in

  933. a care community will

  934. make an incredible

  935. difference in the life

  936. of a foster family.

  937. We know well-supported

  938. families foster

  939. longer and stronger.

  940. All right, so what

  941. is a care community?

  942. Basically, this is a

  943. group that's a team

  944. of individuals in

  945. various roles who

  946. support the needs of

  947. family and children.

  948. So you're gonna have

  949. one person who acts

  950. as a team leader,

  951. that's kind of the

  952. liaison to help with

  953. the communication.

  954. They send an email

  955. every week they call

  956. the foster family

  957. or adoptive family,

  958. and just talk with

  959. them about what

  960. are your needs?

  961. How can we

  962. pray for you?

  963. How can we

  964. support you?

  965. You're gonna

  966. have some family

  967. helpers who provide

  968. practical details.

  969. This is a big piece

  970. that a lot of people

  971. feel like this is

  972. something I can do.

  973. Um, we pick one day

  974. a week, so let's say

  975. Tuesday for example,

  976. and every Tuesday

  977. somebody brings

  978. that family a meal.

  979. Um, and I know

  980. that that has been

  981. something that is

  982. a small detail that

  983. goes a really long

  984. way for our families.

  985. Um, we've also had

  986. people help with

  987. housework and yard

  988. work, whether that's.

  989. Us picking up

  990. around the lawn

  991. or doing laundry.

  992. Um, I know when

  993. Derek Blake was on a

  994. team with us, um, he

  995. offered to do help

  996. with vehicle issues,

  997. um, for that whole

  998. year, for that family.

  999. Um, we also try to

  1000. have a couple people

  1001. who are specifically

  1002. child mentors.

  1003. And so these are

  1004. people that are more

  1005. intentional about

  1006. spending time with

  1007. the children who

  1008. are involved here,

  1009. whether that's with

  1010. childcare or tutoring

  1011. that could just be

  1012. taking them out for

  1013. ice cream every now

  1014. and then and spending

  1015. time with them in

  1016. a specific way.

1017. And then we also try,

1018. if we're able to have

  1019. an interim caregiver,

  1020. somebody, um, maybe

  1021. that's an individual

  1022. or a couple who

  1023. might be willing to

  1024. even just provide an

  1025. evening or a night.

1026. Um, if able may be

  1027. a longer stretch

  1028. of time where they

  1029. can actually give

  1030. some respite to that

  1031. family and take those

  1032. children off their

  1033. hands for a period

1034. of time so that they

  1035. can actually get

  1036. some rest for their

  1037. mental health as well.

  1038. So this provides

  1039. prayer, encouragement,

  1040. meals, connections

  1041. with the kids, and

  1042. overall just tangible

  1043. support that, um, just

  1044. helps this family know

  1045. that they're not alone

  1046. with all of these,

  1047. the good, hard work

  1048. that they're doing.

  1049. So, real fast, I

  1050. wanted to show you

  1051. some quick pictures.

  1052. Most of you guys

  1053. are gonna recognize

  1054. the people in

  1055. these photos.

  1056. What has our impact

  1057. been here in the

  1058. last four years?

  1059. We've had the

  1060. privilege of

  1061. caring for four

  1062. separate families

  1063. in our church.

  1064. Uh, Nate, Amy and

  1065. Oliver Harshman.

  1066. Um.

  1067. Ollie was adopted

  1068. from China several

  1069. years ago and we

  1070. were, they were kind

  1071. of our test case.

  1072. Uh, he was already

  1073. with them when we

  1074. started this ministry.

1075. Um, and Amy was going

  1076. through some hard

  1077. work having surgery

1078. on her knee and they

  1079. needed the support.

  1080. And so we were

  1081. excited to kind

  1082. of start out this

  1083. ministry with them.

  1084. Uh, Joel Jewel,

  1085. Lily Matthew and

  1086. Silas Williamson.

  1087. Um, we were excited

  1088. to share this, um,

  1089. ministry with them and

  1090. provide some care for

  1091. them when they were

  1092. first getting Matthew

  1093. and before Silas

  1094. was born actually.

1095. But we are excited to

  1096. share that with them.

  1097. Um, mark, Maria,

  1098. Chris, John Lana,

  1099. and James Hunt.

  1100. Uh, when they did

  1101. some fostering, we

  1102. were able to provide

  1103. some support for them.

  1104. And then Ryan, Sarah,

  1105. Jason and Hailey

  1106. Christopher, uh,

  1107. they were our first

  1108. family that has

  1109. fostered to adopt

1110. here in a long time.

  1111. Um, and we're so

  1112. thankful that we are

  1113. able to support them

  1114. through the whole long

  1115. process of welcoming

  1116. these children into

  1117. their home, going

  1118. through everything

  1119. that's involved

  1120. in fostering and

  1121. eventually allowing

  1122. them to adopt.

  1123. So, yeah.

  1124. Amen.

  1125. That's pretty

  1126. cool stuff.

  1127. So here's the big

  1128. picture question.

  1129. What is next?

  1130. Well, as I watched

  1131. your video, it was

  1132. clear to me that

  1133. if every church

  1134. in America helped

  1135. one family and we

  1136. just did like one,

  1137. two, like we're

  1138. done, we're done.

  1139. Job White Rock.

  1140. We did it.

  1141. If only that's

  1142. how it worked.

  1143. Oh.

  1144. Oh.

  1145. But I think we're

  1146. bored, right?

  1147. Are we bored?

  1148. A little bit.

  1149. Little bored, right?

  1150. We don't really

  1151. have anybody on

  1152. our radar at the

  1153. moment that is in

  1154. our church community

  1155. that's meeting this.

  1156. Well, it was fun

  1157. to help people in

  1158. our church family.

  1159. That was cool, right?

  1160. Super cool.

1161. But what if, and we

  1162. started having this

  1163. conversation, which

  1164. is super cool, right?

  1165. What if instead of

  1166. helping a foster

  1167. family and white rock,

  1168. which we're gonna do,

  1169. if the Lord raises

  1170. that up, don't worry.

  1171. But what if.

  1172. We could come

  1173. alongside an

  1174. unchurched family

  1175. who has no church

  1176. affiliation at all, or

  1177. maybe even interest.

1178. And as the church of

  1179. Jesus Christ, create

  1180. a care community to

  1181. come along alongside

  1182. of them as they

  1183. walk through this

  1184. fostering thing.

  1185. Wouldn't that

  1186. be awesome?

  1187. That'd be super cool.

  1188. What's next, Jackie?

  1189. Absolutely.

  1190. Uh, what a great

  1191. idea, Andy.

  1192. We should really

  1193. look into that.

  1194. I, that's what

  1195. an original idea.

  1196. Um, so yes, that's

  1197. really what we

  1198. are hoping to do.

1199. So one of our, um,

  1200. Ashley, who's our

  1201. church liaison with

  1202. Hands of Hope, this

  1203. is something that has

  1204. been a possibility

1205. and been on our radar

  1206. since we started

  1207. this ministry.

  1208. Um, but we, she

  1209. started talking to

1210. us about it a few

  1211. months ago that there

  1212. are some specific

  1213. families that are

1214. in our area who are

  1215. struggling, who are

  1216. fostering currently,

  1217. who need some support.

  1218. Um, and is that

  1219. a possibility?

  1220. Is that something that

  1221. White Rock can do?

1222. Um, and I felt like

  1223. we just needed to

  1224. sort out the timing,

1225. but I know the DNA

1226. of our church and I

1227. know the hearts of the

  1228. people who are here

  1229. and how awesome you

  1230. guys are at stepping

  1231. up to love people

  1232. in so many active

  1233. ways, people that

  1234. you know, and people

  1235. that you don't know.

1236. And so we, um, see

1237. if I can press the

  1238. right button here.

1239. We need you, um, God

  1240. cares deeply about

  1241. our families and

  1242. children, and you can

  1243. participate in the

  1244. work he's doing by

  1245. joining a team that

1246. we are forming for a

  1247. local care community.

1248. Um, we, I would love

1249. to get a couple teams

  1250. started, but at the

  1251. very least, we have

  1252. one family that we

  1253. know of that's in

  1254. the Carmel area that

  1255. we are hoping to

  1256. go ahead and start

  1257. building a team for.

1258. Um, some of you guys

1259. who have been on care

  1260. communities before,

  1261. I've already reached

  1262. out and we're starting

1263. to put those, put that

  1264. team together, but we

  1265. need some more people

  1266. than what we have.

  1267. Um, and so it's

  1268. not complicated.

  1269. Uh, basically there's

  1270. basically an hour long

  1271. orientation video and

  1272. some questions which

1273. are done on your time.

  1274. Just to kind of

  1275. help give you some

  1276. more background.

1277. You don't have to be

  1278. a foster parent to

  1279. know, you know, you

  1280. don't have to have

  1281. lots of training

1282. to be part of this.

  1283. Um, there's a virtual

  1284. launch meeting once

  1285. we get everybody

1286. on the same page to

  1287. form this team to

  1288. share our passions

  1289. and make plans.

  1290. Um, 'cause everybody

  1291. kind of has

  1292. something that maybe

  1293. God is stirring

  1294. in your heart.

  1295. What can you bring

  1296. to the table?

  1297. As I mentioned, Derek

  1298. Blake has, you know,

  1299. skills with auto, what

1300. am I trying to say?

  1301. Autos, cars, vehicles.

  1302. I know nothing about

  1303. that, so I can't

  1304. fix anybody's car.

1305. I can put gas in it.

  1306. That's about as

1307. far as I can get.

1308. But if you, if you

  1309. have a skill or a

1310. talent or a gift that

  1311. you wanna bring to

  1312. the table, um, we

1313. would love to find a

1314. way to plug you in.

  1315. Um, well eventually

  1316. we're gonna connect

  1317. with this family.

  1318. I don't even know

  1319. their names yet.

  1320. So we're gonna connect

1321. with them and get in

  1322. touch and actually

1323. have a meet and greet

  1324. meal with this family.

  1325. Um, and then our

  1326. goal is to serve

  1327. them for a year.

  1328. Um, we'll see what

  1329. comes from that, but,

  1330. um, but really it's

1331. more just kind of the

  1332. meetings and the time

1333. on the front end once

  1334. it gets launched.

  1335. Um, it's really

  1336. just a week to

  1337. week situation.

  1338. Maybe that means that

1339. you get an email and

  1340. you pray for this

  1341. family on a regular

  1342. basis and then you

  1343. take them a meal

  1344. once, a once a month.

1345. Um, so I would say

  1346. the commitment level

  1347. is not that high.

  1348. And given how serious

1349. the need is and how

  1350. much Jesus cares

  1351. about this, I think

  1352. that it's really

  1353. important for our

  1354. church body to yeah,

1355. step up and be able

  1356. to participate here.

  1357. Plus super

  1358. cool, right?

  1359. To just get to

  1360. love people really

  1361. hard who are open

  1362. to it, but they're

  1363. not open to church.

  1364. Like how awesome is

  1365. that you guys, we

1366. get a chance to just

  1367. like wrap our arms

  1368. around this community

1369. and show 'em or this,

  1370. this family and say,

  1371. Jesus loves you.

  1372. You.

  1373. That's why we're

  1374. doing this.

  1375. 'cause Jesus loves

  1376. you and that's it.

  1377. And there's no, no

  1378. strings attached.

  1379. You don't have to

  1380. come to our church.

  1381. You don't have to

  1382. listen to our stupid

  1383. YouTube channel.

  1384. That's fine.

  1385. We don't care.

  1386. We're just

  1387. gonna love you.

  1388. What an awesome

  1389. opportunity that is.

  1390. I mean, not that it's

  1391. not cool to serve

  1392. one another, it is

  1393. cool, but when we

1394. get the door open up

  1395. to serve those who

  1396. are disinterested

  1397. in Christ.

  1398. Wow.

  1399. Super cool.

1400. So how can they get

  1401. in touch with you,

  1402. Jackie, about this?

  1403. Absolutely.

  1404. If they have some

  1405. interest or, well,

  1406. you can come talk

  1407. with me this morning.

1408. I will be here until

  1409. the end of church

  1410. 'cause until the

  1411. doors are locked,

  1412. basically that's me.

  1413. I'll be here.

  1414. So you can talk

  1415. to me anytime.

  1416. But also Maria and

  1417. Abby and I, you're

1418. welcome to send any of

1419. us an email or a text.

1420. Um, and we would just

  1421. really, like our goal

1422. is to try to get this

  1423. launched and moving in

  1424. the next couple weeks

  1425. before the holidays.

1426. So, um, so yeah, I

1427. would ask you to just.

  1428. Pray about that and

  1429. see what the Lord

1430. might be doing in your

  1431. heart in that area.

  1432. Super cool.

  1433. Hey, big round

  1434. of applause for

  1435. Jackie and the

  1436. whole team helping

  1437. to meet all that.

  1438. Thank you.

  1439. I'm gonna shake

  1440. your hands, make it

  1441. really appreciate.

  1442. Thank you, Jackie.

  1443. That was very

  1444. official.

  1445. Yes.

  1446. Thank you.

  1447. Super cool.

  1448. And, uh, Jackie had

1449. one more thing in her

  1450. presentation that I

1451. asked her if she could

1452. take it out because it

1453. was what I was gonna

  1454. share this morning.

  1455. And so we arm

  1456. wrestled, she won,

  1457. but she was gracious.

1458. And let me do it,

  1459. uh, because as we

  1460. wrap up this thought

  1461. on serving, um, and

  1462. it, I don't know

  1463. if you'll listen to

  1464. anything I have to

  1465. say because hopefully

1466. the rest of the time

  1467. you're sitting there

  1468. thinking, wow, God,

  1469. how cool, how cool

  1470. of an inroad, how

1471. neat, what could I do?

  1472. What should I do?

  1473. How could I get

  1474. involved with what

  1475. you're doing in

  1476. this situation?

  1477. Oh, how could I

  1478. love my neighbor

  1479. even better?

  1480. How could I serve

  1481. people around me?

  1482. This would be great.

  1483. Oh, he prayed.

  1484. We're done.

  1485. That's okay.

  1486. If that's you, I'm

  1487. good with that.

  1488. 'cause what the

  1489. Holy Spirit wants

1490. to do is better than

  1491. what I gotta say.

1492. But I do want to tell

  1493. you something Jesus

  1494. said about this idea

  1495. of serving, and I

  1496. think it's pretty

  1497. powerful, comes from

  1498. Matthew Chapter 25.

    Matthew 25 chapter mention

  1499. And it's a parable.

  1500. Jesus tells That's

  1501. really not a parable.

  1502. It's sort of a

  1503. picture of what life

  1504. is gonna be like

1505. one day as we stand

  1506. before the throne,

  1507. and it's commonly

  1508. referred to as the

  1509. sheep and the goats.

1510. And it goes like this.

  1511. Jesus is speaking

  1512. and he says, when

1513. the son of man comes

  1514. in his glory, right?

  1515. When Jesus comes

1516. at the end of time

  1517. to take all people

  1518. to stand before his

  1519. throne of judgment,

  1520. and all the angels

  1521. are with him, he's

  1522. gonna sit on his

  1523. glorious throne and

  1524. all nations will

  1525. gather before him.

  1526. Every man, woman,

  1527. child who's ever been.

  1528. Will stand before

  1529. the throne of God

  1530. acknowledging who

  1531. Jesus is as Lord

  1532. and judge over all,

  1533. and he will separate

  1534. the people one from

  1535. another as a shepherd

  1536. separates the sheep

  1537. from the goats.

  1538. Now, years ago, I

  1539. was told this in

  1540. some historic book

  1541. in Israel, that sheep

  1542. and goats, while

  1543. today they look very,

  1544. very distinct back

1545. in the time of Jesus,

  1546. sheep and goats kind

  1547. of mingled together

  1548. pretty consistently.

  1549. And as they got

  1550. fluffier and fluffier

  1551. and hairier and

  1552. hairier, you couldn't

  1553. always distinguish

  1554. easily the difference

  1555. between the sheep and

  1556. the goats, but the

  1557. shepherd always could,

1558. and he did it based

  1559. on their behaviors

  1560. and their demeanor.

  1561. Kind of an

  1562. interesting time.

  1563. But Jesus uses this

  1564. picture that at the

1565. end of the age sitting

  1566. on his throne, he

  1567. separates the sheep

  1568. from the goats.

  1569. And he says this,

  1570. he'll put the

  1571. sheep on his right.

  1572. And the goats

  1573. on his left.

1574. Now, as much as you

  1575. wanna make this a

  1576. political moment,

  1577. please don't do that.

  1578. Okay?

  1579. Um, right-leaning,

  1580. left-leaning.

  1581. That's not what

  1582. this is about.

  1583. And me bringing it

  1584. up might have tipped

1585. my hand a little bit,

  1586. but just look away.

1587. He will put his sheep

1588. on the right and his

  1589. goats on the left,

  1590. and then the king

1591. will say to those on

  1592. his right, the sheep,

1593. this is what he says.

  1594. Come you who are

  1595. blessed by my father.

  1596. Take your inheritance,

  1597. the kingdom

  1598. prepared for you.

  1599. Since the creation

  1600. of the world,

  1601. take your reward.

  1602. Why?

  1603. Well, for I was

  1604. hungry and you gave

  1605. me something to eat.

  1606. I was thirsty

  1607. and you gave me

  1608. something to drink.

  1609. I was a stranger and

  1610. you invited me in.

  1611. I needed clothes.

  1612. You clothed me.

  1613. I was sick.

  1614. You looked after me.

1615. I was in prison and

1616. you came to visit me.

  1617. And the sheep ask

  1618. a very interesting

  1619. question.

  1620. And Jesus subtly

  1621. shifts this to

  1622. righteousness now.

  1623. Right?

  1624. The righteous and the

  1625. unrighteous, the sheep

  1626. and the goats, the

  1627. righteous the sheep.

  1628. Ask this question,

1629. huh uh Lord, when did

  1630. we see you hungry?

  1631. When did we see

  1632. you get thirsty?

  1633. When a stranger, when

  1634. needing clothing, when

  1635. sick, when in prison,

  1636. when maybe we helped

  1637. a lot of people?

  1638. Maybe we did a

  1639. lot of serving and

  1640. making a difference

  1641. in the lives in

  1642. the community.

1643. But God, I feel like

  1644. if you were sitting

  1645. there in prison, I

  1646. would've picked up

1647. on the fact that the

  1648. radiant king of all

  1649. glory was shining in

  1650. the prison cell, and

1651. I'd have been happy to

  1652. visit with you, right?

  1653. Or that when you

  1654. came to my door

  1655. and you knocked in,

  1656. in your radio and

  1657. glory, I saw you.

  1658. I immediately prepared

1659. a meal for you because

1660. of who you were, but I

  1661. never, never saw you.

  1662. Never noticed.

  1663. You didn't realize

  1664. when, when, when did

  1665. I do these things?

  1666. Now, remember,

  1667. they're receiving

  1668. their inheritance.

  1669. They've been commended

  1670. for their behavior

  1671. and their action

  1672. and their service.

  1673. They have no idea

  1674. what the king is

  1675. talking about, and

1676. this is what he says.

  1677. The king will reply.

  1678. Truly, I tell you,

  1679. whatever you did for

1680. one of the least of

  1681. these brothers and

  1682. sisters of mine,

  1683. you did for me.

1684. When you love and when

  1685. you serve even the

  1686. least of these, you're

1687. not just doing it for

  1688. them and you're not

1689. just doing it to them,

1690. you're doing it to me.

  1691. Then the king

  1692. looks to the left,

  1693. to the goats, to

  1694. the unrighteous.

  1695. He says, depart from

1696. me, you who are cursed

  1697. into the eternal

  1698. fire prepared for the

  1699. devil and his angels.

  1700. Why?

1701. Well, I was hungry and

  1702. you gave me nothing.

  1703. I was thirsty and

  1704. you gave me nothing.

  1705. I was a stranger.

  1706. You didn't

  1707. invite me in.

  1708. I needed to close.

  1709. You didn't clothe me.

  1710. I was sick.

  1711. I was in prison.

  1712. And much like

  1713. the righteous,

  1714. they said, whoa.

  1715. Well, when I'll

  1716. abbreviate the

  1717. next verse for you.

  1718. When, Lord, if you

  1719. would've showed

  1720. up in your radiant

  1721. glory at our door

  1722. and knocked and said,

  1723. can you help me?

  1724. I would've helped you.

  1725. I would've helped

  1726. you in a heartbeat.

  1727. Come on when you

  1728. never were there.

  1729. And he says the

  1730. same to the goats,

  1731. I tell you, whatever

  1732. you did not do.

1733. To the least of these

  1734. brothers and sisters

1735. of mine, you did not

1736. do for me what you

  1737. didn't do for the

  1738. least of these, you

  1739. didn't do for me.

  1740. Then they will go

  1741. away into eternal

  1742. punishment.

  1743. Jesus says, but the

  1744. righteous to eternal

1745. life, and I love the

  1746. simplicity of this

  1747. illustration 'cause

1748. we can get caught up

  1749. in all the theology

  1750. of works-based

  1751. faith and blah,

  1752. blah, blah, blah,

  1753. blah, blah, blah.

  1754. But in Jesus's

  1755. telling of this, it's

  1756. super simple, right?

  1757. It's a two letter

  1758. word, do the

  1759. distinguishing factor

  1760. between the goat, the

  1761. sheeps, the righteous,

  1762. the unrighteous

  1763. is what you did

  1764. and did not do.

  1765. See, Jesus is serious

  1766. about serving others,

  1767. about loving our

  1768. neighbor as ourself.

  1769. Jesus isn't

  1770. joking about that.

  1771. He's not throwing out

  1772. some fancy doctrinal

  1773. words that sound

  1774. pretty about what

  1775. it looks like to

  1776. live a saintly life.

  1777. He's serious about

1778. what we do or what

  1779. we don't do, and

  1780. it somehow matters

  1781. for all eternity.

  1782. And he gives us

  1783. this great picture,

  1784. doesn't he?

  1785. Hungry, thirsty,

  1786. stranger, clothed,

  1787. sick prison.

  1788. This is a great

  1789. list to kind

  1790. of work off of.

  1791. Is it all inclusive?

  1792. Do you have to

  1793. do everything

  1794. on the list?

1795. I kind of tend to

  1796. think, maybe we should

  1797. stop asking those

  1798. dumb questions and

  1799. just say, let's do

  1800. something on the list.

  1801. Right?

  1802. Forget about, did you

1803. check every box or is

  1804. there a different box?

  1805. I should check?

  1806. Let's do

  1807. something right.

  1808. Hey, I just wanna

  1809. say this as an

  1810. encouragement church.

  1811. 'cause I think there's

  1812. a point of conviction

  1813. here for all of

1814. us that we have to

  1815. own a little bit.

1816. And I think we should,

  1817. but I also wanna

  1818. say like hungry.

  1819. Maybe thirsty fits

  1820. in there too, right?

  1821. But, but hungry.

1822. You guys do an amazing

  1823. job of trying to

  1824. bring food and get

  1825. food to other people,

  1826. and we do food.

  1827. Uh, drives and

  1828. different things

  1829. all the time to

  1830. try to help keep

  1831. the pantry stocked

  1832. and help people.

1833. You guys do a lot of

  1834. things outside of the

  1835. organized efforts of

1836. our church to try to

  1837. help meet people's

1838. needs in the way that

  1839. they need food, right?

  1840. Some basic necessities

  1841. and thirsty.

1842. I love this idea, like

1843. giving a cup of cold

  1844. water in Jesus' name

  1845. doesn't go unnoticed,

  1846. but man, the amount

  1847. of, uh, lemonade and

  1848. water and tea you

  1849. distribute during

  1850. vacation Bible schools

  1851. and during events

  1852. and activities in our

  1853. community and helping

  1854. people, like you guys

  1855. are doing some really

  1856. great things there.

  1857. Clothing.

  1858. A couple times a

  1859. year we're rocking

  1860. this place with

  1861. clothing giveaways and

  1862. trying to get people

  1863. things as a, as a.

  1864. Organized body

  1865. collectively

  1866. trying to meet some

  1867. of those needs.

  1868. You guys are amazing

  1869. when it comes to

  1870. people who are

  1871. sick between prayer

  1872. and visitation,

  1873. encouragement and

  1874. providing meals and

  1875. trying to support and

  1876. come alongside people.

  1877. Epic job there.

  1878. You know, since Covid,

  1879. it's been a bummer

  1880. 'cause we used to

  1881. do, uh, Christmas

1882. dinner at the jail and

  1883. Easter dinner at the

  1884. jail, and we haven't

1885. been able to do those

  1886. things again since

  1887. that whole piece.

  1888. But there's people

  1889. involved in some

  1890. prison efforts and

  1891. some things, and maybe

  1892. that's an area where

1893. you have a heart for

  1894. that and maybe God

  1895. wants to stir some

1896. more of that in you.

  1897. That's a cool piece.

  1898. And I love this

  1899. idea of welcoming

  1900. the stranger, the

  1901. foreigner, the alien.

  1902. I think a, as a

  1903. church, you guys

  1904. are incredible

  1905. at loving people.

  1906. Anybody God brings

  1907. in these doors

  1908. and on this place,

  1909. whether it's our

  1910. daycare families or

  1911. just random people

1912. who walk in off the

  1913. street and have no

  1914. idea what they're

  1915. getting into, right?

  1916. Like just trying

  1917. to love people.

  1918. Well, you do an

  1919. awesome job of that.

  1920. But I was also

  1921. thinking about this

  1922. Sunday, or this

  1923. Tuesday, we're gonna

  1924. have the election, uh,

  1925. polling place in here.

  1926. Um, I'm gonna give

  1927. you a chance today,

  1928. actually at the

  1929. end of the service

  1930. if you want to

  1931. serve a stranger.

  1932. I'm gonna invite you

  1933. to stack the chair

  1934. next to you and

  1935. help get the chair

  1936. stacked in here so

  1937. that people can come

  1938. in here and vote.

  1939. And, and actually if

1940. you wanna be part of

  1941. our Tuesday coffee

  1942. bar rotation, let me

  1943. know if you're free

  1944. on Tuesday and you

1945. wanna come for an hour

  1946. or something, help

  1947. serve coffee to people

  1948. in the community.

1949. 'cause let me just say

1950. to you as a polling

  1951. place, we're gonna

1952. have a whole lot of

  1953. people in here that

  1954. are strangers and

  1955. aliens and foreigners

1956. and are on the other

  1957. side of the aisle

  1958. than you, no matter

  1959. what side of the

  1960. aisle you're on.

  1961. People who are

  1962. different than us,

1963. and Jesus calls us to

  1964. serve those people.

  1965. One of the things

  1966. that's fascinating

  1967. to me is sitting

  1968. here some days on

  1969. these polling days

  1970. and watching people

  1971. come in and having

  1972. conversation, and

1973. it's not too hard to

  1974. pick up pretty quick

  1975. how passionately

  1976. they're driven.

  1977. In values that are

  1978. totally opposite

  1979. of mine, and yet

  1980. still giving 'em a

  1981. cup of coffee and

  1982. trying to encourage

  1983. their day and show

  1984. 'em a little love.

  1985. And man, that's a big

  1986. piece of what's gonna

  1987. play out on Tuesday

  1988. too, guys, that God

1989. calls you in the land

  1990. of darkness to shine

  1991. your light brightly.

  1992. And I don't think

  1993. it's a coincidence

  1994. that we're in this

  1995. service weekend.

  1996. We wanna serve our

  1997. country and our civic

  1998. responsibilities.

1999. But man, we are called

  2000. to serve one another.

  2001. And that includes

  2002. people we don't like

  2003. and people we don't

  2004. want relationship

  2005. with and we want

  2006. to stay away from.

  2007. And yet God calls

  2008. us to be people

  2009. who love and serve.

  2010. And you gotta have

  2011. some maybe healthy

  2012. boundaries in some

  2013. of that and some

  2014. reasonable, you

  2015. know, process to

  2016. how you do it.

  2017. And the Holy Spirit

2018. will lead you in it.

  2019. But do not neglect

  2020. to be obedient and

  2021. faithful to God's call

2022. to serve those who are

  2023. different than you.

2024. And who are on a

  2025. foreign, I mean, I

  2026. was, I was having

  2027. breakfast the other

  2028. day with somebody and

  2029. an older gentleman

  2030. walked in and then

  2031. I realized it wasn't

  2032. a gentleman, it

  2033. was a gentleman

  2034. in transition.

  2035. And I couldn't really

  2036. figure out how to

  2037. engage very well.

2038. And it was a very,

  2039. very obviously awkward

  2040. kind of dynamic.

  2041. And uh, tried to

  2042. have a little chat

  2043. on just, you know,

  2044. the weather and how

  2045. kolaches are awesome

  2046. kind of thing, right?

  2047. But I couldn't

  2048. even figure out

  2049. any common ground.

2050. And I kept trying and

  2051. I was just praying

  2052. while I was there.

  2053. Lord, help me to

2054. help me to at least

  2055. smile and shine,

  2056. hope and light in

  2057. some capacity, right?

2058. That's hard to do, but

  2059. that's the world that

  2060. we're living in now.

  2061. And Jesus has not

  2062. made us exempt

  2063. from that world.

  2064. And he hasn't said,

2065. you get to just step

  2066. away from everybody

  2067. different than you

  2068. and don't love and

  2069. don't serve others.

  2070. We've gotta be

  2071. people who fulfill

  2072. what this scripture

  2073. teaches us, right?

  2074. That when we do

  2075. this to the least

  2076. of these, and in

  2077. our own estimation,

  2078. the least of these.

  2079. We do it to

  2080. Jesus, right?

2081. And the goal is that

2082. we will hear the king

  2083. say that, Hey, not

  2084. only are you just

  2085. doing it to them,

2086. you're doing it to me.

  2087. And ultimately

  2088. he says the words

  2089. to us that Jesus

  2090. echoes in Matthew.

  2091. Well done, good and

  2092. faithful servant.

  2093. Great job,

  2094. apprentice of Jesus.

  2095. Loving.

  2096. Well, the people

  2097. who are different

  2098. than you, the people

  2099. who are hungry and

  2100. thirsty and sick

  2101. and in prison,

  2102. wherever they're at.

  2103. Jesus calls us to

  2104. this practice of

  2105. serving others.

  2106. I'm excited about this

  2107. hands of hope thing

  2108. coming alongside some

  2109. unchurched family.

  2110. Maybe another one.

  2111. Do some cool

  2112. things, man.

  2113. Please pray

  2114. about that.

  2115. See how God might

  2116. raise you up.

  2117. But you have people

  2118. in your neighborhood.

  2119. You have people

  2120. in your office.

  2121. You have people

  2122. in your business

  2123. and community, and

  2124. in your school.

  2125. I.

  2126. On your sports teams,

  2127. you have people

  2128. that are a struggle.

  2129. You have people

  2130. that are different.

  2131. You have people

  2132. that have needs.

  2133. And it's easy for

  2134. us to just look

  2135. the other way.

  2136. And man, Jesus says,

  2137. Nope, not my people.

  2138. My people roll

  2139. up their sleeves

  2140. like I did.

  2141. And they didn't

  2142. come here to get

  2143. served by people.

  2144. They came here to

  2145. serve the people

  2146. around them.

  2147. So I challenge us

  2148. in a time where it's

2149. very easy to be very

  2150. selfish and consumed

  2151. with our own self

  2152. gratification and

  2153. our own agendas.

  2154. Our own passions, to

  2155. stop looking at people

  2156. through those lenses

  2157. and instead look at

  2158. the lens that Jesus

  2159. calls us to precious,

  2160. eternal beings.

  2161. Lost in confusion,

  2162. maybe lost in pain

  2163. and suffering.

  2164. 'cause there's

  2165. all kinds of sin.

  2166. How can we love

  2167. well, those people

  2168. that God might

  2169. bring into our path.

  2170. How can we serve?

  2171. Don't forget best

  2172. statement in the

  2173. history of the world,

  2174. serving others does

  2175. not lead to greatness.

  2176. Serving others

  2177. is greatness.

  2178. The greatest in

  2179. the kingdom is the

  2180. servant of all.

  2181. So let's be people

  2182. who serve like

  2183. Jesus and let's see

  2184. where that takes

  2185. everything, regardless

  2186. of Tuesday and all

  2187. the other days that

  2188. are libel before us.

  2189. Father, thank you

2190. for your love for us.

2191. Thank you for the call

  2192. to be your servants.

2193. Lord, help us as we

  2194. navigate this week.

  2195. You know, the

  2196. emotions, the

  2197. anxieties,

  2198. the worries.

2199. Lord, I pray you just

2200. help us to cast all

  2201. those on you, father,

  2202. that we would remember

  2203. your sovereignty,

2204. win or lose if our

  2205. candidate does well

  2206. on Tuesday or not

  2207. if our country's in

  2208. turmoil all week.

  2209. Lord, you've called

  2210. us for such a

2211. time as this to be

  2212. your apprentices.

  2213. The world

  2214. that we're in.

2215. So I pray this week,

  2216. especially all the

  2217. things we've talked

  2218. about for the last

  2219. several weeks, Lord,

  2220. that all of them

  2221. would kind of come

  2222. to fruition in the

  2223. way we love this

  2224. week, that we'd be

  2225. connected with you.

  2226. That our hearts would

  2227. be in solitude and

  2228. peace regardless of

  2229. the world around us.

  2230. That we'd be people

  2231. who are praying like

2232. crazy all week in all

  2233. the moments, Lord, and

2234. that we would love and

  2235. serve and be generous

  2236. with our time, energy,

  2237. and resources to the

  2238. people around us.

  2239. Lord, that people

  2240. would see Jesus this

  2241. week no matter what

  2242. they see anywhere

  2243. else but in us.

  2244. They're gonna see you.

  2245. Lord, we wanna stand

  2246. with the persecuted

  2247. church, thankful

  2248. and joyful that our

  2249. destination is not

  2250. on this planet, that

2251. our hope is not tied

  2252. to anything here.

  2253. But Lord, we have

  2254. an inheritance

  2255. and a glory that

  2256. far outweighs

  2257. everything we endure.

  2258. So Father, help us

  2259. keep our eyes fixed

  2260. on you and just

  2261. make this week epic.

  2262. So many ways

  2263. for eternity.

2264. I pray in Jesus name.

  2265. Amen.
