Why not the

power of love?

Woo.

How many of you guys

are right now gonna

go home and watch

back to the future?

Right?

Let's be

honest, right?

Let's go.

What a awesome song.

Not really.

What an

awesome phrase.

The power of love,

because it is the

power of Jesus.

The power of God's

incredible love.

We just sang about it.

The same power that

rose Jesus from the

Dead lives in us.

What a really cool

song lyric that Jeremy

camp threw out there.

What a beautiful

statement.

It's inspiring,

it's encouraging.

It is the

power of love.

God's incredible

love at work in the

life of us, man.

Boom.

That's amazing.

But is it a

biblical statement

or is this really

cool song lyric?

I don't know.

Maybe we should

explore that.

Let's see.

Uh, we've been talking

about Ephesians and

this awesome prayer

that Paul prays over

the church in Ephesus,

and little did he know

that it was actually

gonna be a prayer

prayed over the church

in Noblesville in

2025 as we stretch

out to try to reach

and be the people

that God's called

us to, uh, be in all

these areas that maybe

are challenging and.

And maybe difficult

or maybe exhilarating,

inspiring and fun.

But God's called us

to stretch, right?

And to be people who

strive and strain

towards what's ahead.

Forgetting what

lies behind and

straining towards

what lies ahead.

And that's, we've been

exploring this prayer

that Paul prayed,

and that's something

I've been praying

for us, that the eyes

of our heart, right?

Not the physical eyes,

not the circumstances,

but that our spirit

and our heart would

be enlightened by the

light of God's truth

and his word and the

reality that he brings

to the situation.

So that we would

know, right?

Deep, intimate,

connected, deep

knowledge, not just

information about but

experience in that

we would know three

really cool things.

First, we talked

about the hope of

his calling, that

we would know the

hope of his calling.

Why does Paul pray

that for the church

and Ephesus, and

why today for us?

We talked about a

lot of different

things, but, but

kinda ultimately

that we would know

purpose that God's

called us to,

meaning to purpose.

He has vision and

calling and, and

there's reasons for

what he is having

a strain towards.

There's purpose.

We're not just

randomly here and when

we chase the things

of this life and

this world around us,

they leave us empty.

Real purpose, real

hope is found in a

relationship with him.

And so there's a

prayer for purpose

that we would lock

into that space

and know the hope

of his calling.

Last week we talked

about the riches

of his glorious

inheritance in the

saints and really

exploring the question

of why this prayer

for God's people and

why so important and

a lot of different

pieces of provision

and all this stuff,

but, but ultimately,

I think there's

this call that God's

people would know

perspective, right?

That we would see the

circumstances of our

life, the situations,

the relationships.

The material things

and we would see them

all within the proper

perspective, maybe the

eternal perspective.

'cause when you know

what awaits and you

know, what God has in

store and you know,

not maybe what it

is, but that it is.

And that helps

us as we navigate

the situations

that we're in, the

stuff that we face,

all of it, right?

God has definitely

given us purpose and

he wants us to have

perspective as we

navigate this life

and what we live.

And then we know

the eternal picture

and destination.

And then thirdly, this

surpassing greatness

of his power for

those who believe the

surpassing greatness

of his power.

In fact, if we, uh,

kind of bump this up

a minute and we tag

in the rest of chapter

verse 19 and verse

20, it says this.

This is the same

mighty power that

raised Christ from the

dead and seated him

at the place of honor

at God's right hand in

the heavenly realms.

The same power, right?

So maybe Jeremy

was onto something.

The same power that

rose Jesus from

the dead resides

and lives in the

life of a believer.

Not a similar power,

but the same power.

It's neat to hear

some talking about

addiction and breaking

free from bondage of

sin and like there's

some cool things that

God's power and the

power of his love, how

it chisels away at the

hardest hearts and the

hardest situations,

and it breaks down

walls like little

drops of water eroding

a canyon, right?

It happens with

this power of his

love that begins to

transform us and then

the world around us.

So I was thinking

about this and I

thought I'd ask a

really mean pastor

question based

on a Gatorade

commercial, right?

Remember that

Gatorade, is

it in you?

But not so much

Gatorade though,

if you need some, I

totally understand.

But God's power,

is it in you?

Are you connected to?

Are you plugged

in to God's power?

Do you know about

God's power?

Or do you know

the power of God

in your life?

It's probably an

important thing to

wrestle with, right?

Because this prayer

that we've been

praying, hope of

his calling and

the glories and

inheritance of the

saints, it culminates

with this idea that

we would know the

surpassing greatness

of his power.

So I wanna explore

that a little bit

with you this morning.

And see where we

get to, um, this

phrase, the surpassing

greatness of his power

to us who believe is

a cool, cool promise.

And I love my friends

at the adjective

factory 'cause they

have worked so hard.

If you go to multiple

translations,

you can find the

greatest efforts

being made to try to

kind of capture the

surpassing greatness

of God's power.

Words like the

boundless greatness,

the exceeding

greatness, the

incredible greatness,

the incomparable

greatness, the

transcendent

greatness, the

unlimited greatness,

the immeasurable

greatness.

I like this word

indescribable.

So quit trying

right to stop.

Just stop.

It's indescribable

the greatness

of his power.

His power is beyond

comprehension.

His power is beyond

anything that

we can imagine.

It's resurrection

power.

It's power that

brings from dead

to alive, right?

And sometimes we

get caught up in the

miraculous, momentary

power that God

displays and we miss

the miraculous death

to life power that we

are getting to live

if we know Christ.

'cause we have

been bought back

from death to life.

We, through

Jesus experience,

resurrection power

for all eternity.

Problem is we can't

see it, touch it,

taste it right now in

the fullest context.

So we devalue the

significance of

his incredible

resurrection power

in our own life.

But words fail.

They are really

gallant efforts.

But it's

indescribable.

Indescribable

the greatness

of his power.

So let's talk just

for a minute about

this simple little

phrase, his power.

And you know, me, I

kind of get geeked

out on random words

and it's interesting

and entertaining.

I don't know why.

Maybe it's the

colors, whatever,

but it's intriguing

to me, uh, this word

in the, uh, Greek,

this, uh, dunamis,

which gets sort of

transliterated and I

think maybe rightfully

so, for kicks dynamis.

'cause it sounds like

dynamic and dynamite.

I mean power.

I like the, the

picture of that.

But I've been doing

some digging in this,

um, some old Greek

lexicons and some

things to kind of try

to unpack this concept

of God's power.

And I gotta tell

you, I came across

the word, now I know

indescribable, right?

But there is a

word in the English

language that

actually captures.

The essence of what

this dynamist picture

of God's power is.

And I don't know if

you know this word,

we did plenitude

last week, right?

That was complex.

See if you can stay

with me on this.

'cause this, this

might take a, just

trust me, right?

We're in this

together.

Here's the word

that captures

the magnitude.

When you dig

all the way back

into the ancient

manuscripts, you

discover this picture

of God's power.

You ready?

Can

let it sink in.

It's big.

I know it's three

letters right

there, right?

And some of you're

like, we didn't,

we didn't pay for

like single syllable

sermons, bro.

What's going on?

Well, guess what?

I don't know what

to do either.

This is the most

profound word

in the English

dictionary that

captures God's power.

And I'm being a little

silly, just for fun.

But I'm also being

super honest with you.

This is the picture

of the power of God.

Can,

can throw a scenario,

throw a situation.

What do you got?

He can, what about

a really tough

circumstance or a

really big obstacle?

He can.

Well, what about

the impossible?

He can.

Our God can he can.

Now, some of you're

like, I need more.

Okay, here's

another letter.

We'll go with Abel.

That's a

little fancier.

Okay.

Throw another

letter and make

this real special.

He can.

He is Abel.

I don't know if we

live in that reality.

I don't know.

Sometimes if we care

about that reality

'cause we're so busy

doing our own power

and our own effort

that we forget that

we have access, we

have connection.

I.

That the resurrection

power of God that

can resides in us.

He can, and listen,

if you get nothing

out of this message,

but a silly little

three letter word,

I'm thrilled by that.

I don't know what

your situation is.

I don't know what the

relationships, what

the finances, what

the material mess.

I don't know what

the work, the

health, I don't know.

And I gotta be

honest with you, just

flat out, doesn't

matter what you're

facing, he can, he

can indescribable

unlimited beyond

comprehension.

Right.

Unrivaled power.

He can, our God

is able, he is

always able.

The devil is great

at tossing doubt

out there, right?

Are you sure?

Can.

He really will.

Oh, will he?

That's a different

question than can

he, so maybe we

explore that a minute

and lemme give you

a bigger word just

'cause I know you

want something fancy,

omnipotent, right?

There we go.

Here's the cool

thing about our God.

He is omnipotent.

We have this awesome

theological word

omnipotent to describe

his omnipotence and

we sound so fancy

saying it really just

means he can, but

that's not the point.

Say stay fancy

omnipotence.

He is all powerful.

He can do anything,

but he doesn't always

answer with a yes.

And he doesn't always

do the thing we

wish he would do.

Well there's another

big fancy word

called omniscient,

which means he

is all knowing.

He's all powerful

and he can, and he is

able and there is no

limit or restriction.

He can, but he doesn't

always, he doesn't

always deliver from

that health situation.

Sometimes he asks us

to walk through it.

He doesn't always

take the mess we

made and just fix it.

Sometimes we grind

through it and

grow and learn

in the process.

There's things, your

God and my God knows

that we don't, that

he sees and we don't.

He is always able.

When he doesn't, it's

not because he can't,

but sometimes he

won't for a purpose.

We don't understand

and I hold onto the

hope that one day

I'm gonna be able to

have a conversation

about some of

those things and

be like, Lord, why?

And then he's gonna

be like, Hey, let

me show you why.

And I'll be like,

forget we had

this conversation.

Good work.

God pride didn't

really need my input

as much as I thought

back then in 2024.

Right.

He can.

He absolutely can.

And listen, we

make a lot of

messes, don't we?

As the church, when

we start seeing the

cans and the don'ts

and we start equating

people's spiritual

value in life to that,

are there times where

our lack of faith is

the reason God doesn't

move on the situation?

Yeah.

Happened in the old,

in the New Testament.

Jesus was clear on it.

Were there times where

we hoped and we prayed

and we believed God

could but he didn't.

Yeah.

So what did we do

with those situations?

Was it a lack

of our faith?

Were we sinful

and bad?

Or did God have

a different plan?

Did he have a

different purpose?

Some of the things

I've the most

respect for, I.

I totally get faith

in believing and

trusting that God will

do something and I'm

great to pray through.

I mean, I had was

praying this week and

I was like, Lord, I

don't really wanna

know what your answer

is here, if it's not.

Yes.

So I'm just gonna pray

that you would move

in this situation and

listen, you're God and

you're in charge and

I will obviously yield

to your authority

in sovereignty.

But you said

I could ask.

So I'm just

asking, would you

please do this?

And listen, my

faith's not contingent

upon his yes or no.

I trust him, know

who he is, not

worried about it.

But I'm sure you're

not gonna be stupid

and not ask, you

know, I mean, he

said sometimes you

don't have, 'cause

you don't ask.

So lemme hook you up

with a little asking,

God, let me pester

you for a minute.

Uh, but if it's

no, it's no.

And the faith that's

okay with that is so

much deeper than the

faith that's not.

The faith that's

contingent upon

some works and signs

and wonders is a

very weak faith.

You know, every one

of the disciples

died in this life.

Everybody who's

ever trusted in

Jesus Christ for

faith healing in

this life has died.

Does that mean God

doesn't step in

and heal sometimes?

Oh heck no.

He does.

Lots of times he does.

And for different

purposes and

reasons maybe than

we understand.

I don't know.

He's got, I'm not,

he absolutely heals.

Don't diminish that.

Don't say God doesn't

do miraculous healing.

He does.

We just get

stuck on the, why

does he say no?

And we try to make

sense of it in our

human lives, and we

start blaming each

other and we blame

circumstances and we

blame a lot of things.

Instead of having

a deep enough faith

to say, though he

slay me, still,

will I follow?

I trust him, and

that's enough for me.

Ask by all means.

But I just wonder,

do you have enough

faith to stand

when God says, son,

daughter, no, I'm

gonna entrust you to

walk this journey.

'cause in this

life we're gonna

have trouble.

Remember that

perspective we

talked about?

There is purpose,

there is perspective.

God's power isn't so

that we can escape

those things maybe

more so that we

could fulfill them.

Let me add a

word or two here.

I, I've been thinking

about a lot this week

and this is my own

twisted theological

word to throw in.

So you probably

never see this

anywhere else.

And after today you

might wanna delete

it and be like,

that didn't make

any sense, Andy.

I appreciate that.

But it helps

a guy like me.

So lemme throw

it at you.

It's this, the

difference between

situational power and

something I'm calling

residential power.

See, here's

what I mean.

I think for a

lot of us, I.

We are desperate for

God's situational

power to show up.

We have a

situation, we have a

circumstance, we have

a thing that we need

God to miraculously

make happen.

And so we trust

and we have faith,

and we pray for his

situational power.

And then yes or no,

we're kind of quick

to get back to, uh,

controlling our own

life and doing things

in our own strength.

'cause we do stuff

in our own strength

until we need God's

situational power.

And then we want

to access it.

And then we're like,

all right, God.

Cool.

I got it.

Let me, why don't

you step back into

the copilot chair and

let me, let me drive.

This is good.

I got this.

I got it.

I got it now.

Got it.

I'm good.

I'm good.

I'm good.

Good.

I got it right.

Situational power.

But I think this

scripture and this

prayer is about

something I'm calling

residential power.

This power is to us.

It's for us.

It's supposed to

be in us, right?

Residential, meaning

God's power takes up

residence, that it

resides in us that

God's power isn't

just situationally

accessed, but instead

that the resurrection

power of Jesus Christ

becomes manifest,

and it becomes

a part of who we

are that the Holy

Spirit resides here.

And it's not every so

often I'm accessing

his power, but rather

every single day I'm

walking in the power

of the spirit and

you're seeing love,

joy, peace, patience,

kindness, faithless,

gentleness, goodness,

self-control, all

kinds of different

fruits of the spirit

that aren't because

Andy's super strong,

but because God's

super strong and he's

helping me navigate

on all those spaces.

And I can choose to

operate in sinful

flesh, or I can try

to live by the spirit.

And there's

this tension and

battle for sure.

But am I plugged in?

Am I accessing the

residential power

of God that he takes

up residence in us?

And if you think about

that perspective, I

think it helps answer

this question that

I've been chewing on.

Why pray this?

Why?

Well, if God calls us

to hope, because he

has purpose for us,

that there's meaning

to this life beyond

the things that we see

and the stuff going on

and the circumstances

and situations and all

this temporary stuff

that we would know,

purpose and meaning.

And because he reminds

us that there's this

incredible destination

for us, so we can

have perspective

in the midst of

whatever we face and

whatever's going on.

I think that he wants

us to be access to his

great power, not so

that we can transform

this temporary world

into a heaven on

earth, but instead

that we might know.

Perseverance in the

midst of this life

that we live, that

we might have stamina

and strength to

endure and to stand.

Scripture says in

Colossians one 11, be

strengthened with all

power according to

his glorious might.

Why?

So that you may have

full endurance, that

you may stand patient,

joyful in the midst.

He's given a second.

Peter says everything

we need, his

power has given us

everything we need

to be able to stand.

And I wanted to put

something like the

greatness of his

power so that we

would know, courage

or know, no fear

that we could live

fearlessly, but that

doesn't have a piece,

so it doesn't work.

You know what

I'm saying?

I can't preach stuff

that doesn't make

sense like that,

but it's really

the picture of

what perseverance

is, right?

That.

We would know God's

power residentially,

so that every day as

we engage and as we

walk and we navigate

this life around

us, that we would

do it without fear.

Do not be afraid.

Endure, persevere,

press on.

There is enough power.

There's enough

power for us to

fulfill the purpose.

There's enough hope

in our purpose.

There's enough hope

in the perspective

of eternity, and

there is enough power

for whatever this

year looks like.

Whatever this whole

lifetime ahead of us

looks like, if it's

residential power that

lives in us, and don't

diminish the truth of

this, right, that by

his power, God raised

Jesus, the Lord from

the dead, and he will

raise us also if Jesus

does nothing less.

For you, like from

here on out guys,

if he withholds

all of his power

from you right now

until Resurrection

Day , you'll have

overcome eternal death

with life and his

residential power will

have been enough to

take you to eternity.

And that boy,

that's a lot.

That's beyond what

we deserve, and

that's indescribable

in and of itself.

But that power is not

just for eternity.

It lives in us,

which denotes active,

ongoing, daily action.

His power should be

on display in the

life of a believer.

We ought to show

people the power

of his love.

We ought to continue

to stand in the midst

of hard things because

he's empowered us.

And don't get me

wrong, I'm a super

big fan of the

situational power.

Of God that shows

up and transforms

a situation

and a moment.

Those are epic.

Those are awesome.

Those are encouraging.

They're

wonderful stuff.

But we neglect, I

think, the residential

power of God that we

need to be tapping

into every single day.

And I don't know

about you, like it's

not my power that I

contain and I control.

So I dunno.

If you ever have one

of those LED charger

things where you

plug it in and then

once you unplug it,

that little LED light

looks really bright,

but as soon as you

unplug it, it starts

to fade to nothing.

Right?

Like my batteries

, we're the same way

as people, man.

We gotta stay plugged

into the residential

power of God.

'cause when we unplug

and we walk away and

we start doing our

own thing and our

own power and our own

strength, we start

to fade as well.

'cause it's not

our power, right?

If it was your

power, you could

walk around in your

power all day long.

But in this electric

battery EV world,

sorry to break the

news, but we gotta

stay tethered with

the cord, right to

the power of God in

his word, in prayer,

in relationship

with the body of

Christ, encouraging

one another, walking

together, praying for

each other, talking,

engaging, encouraging,

inspiring,

challenging, that

we might stay on our

focus for purpose,

that we might keep

our perspective and

our eyes on eternity,

and that we might

stay charged up

engaged daily to be

the husbands and the

wives, the fathers,

the mothers, the

sons, the daughters,

the fill in the

blanks that God has

called us to be.

I want to close

this morning

with this prayer.

I've been, I'm

not a big fan of

reading prayers.

I think that's a

little funky, except

Paul isn't done

praying for the church

in Ephesus, and in

chapter three, he

prays this prayer.

So if you'll let

me with my eyes

open, just like

at a inauguration

where it feels

like you're getting

preached to, while

somebody's praying,

check this out.

'cause this is

my prayer for us.

I pray that out of

his glorious riches,

he may strengthen

you with power

through his spirit

in your inner being

residential power

in us, that Christ

may dwell in your

hearts through faith.

And I pray that

you being rooted

and established in

love, the greatest

power there is.

Make no mistake,

love trumps all being

rooted in established

love may have power

together with all

of the lord's, holy

people, the saints,

the aos, the set apart

ones to grasp how

wide, how long, how

high, and how deep

is the love of God.

The love of Christ

and to know this

love that surpasses

all knowledge that

you may be filled to

the measure of all

the fullness of God.

Lord, may we be people

who know purpose, who

know it at an intimate

level, connected

to purpose in you

and not this world.

May we be people who

see with eyes fixed

on the eternal and not

the temporary that we

might know perspective

as we navigate

life day in and day

out, and God would

please help us to be

plugged in to your

power that we might

know how to stand

and endure joyfully

and with hope.

Trusting in you

no matter what the

circumstances of this

fallen world throw

at us, you're not God

because you change

our circumstances.

You're God far beyond

our circumstances.

So Father, I pray that

you would give us the

power of your spirit

taking up residence in

us, that we might live

and walk in your power

and be people who as

in this new year ahead

of us, can stretch

and strain toward

what lies ahead.

In Jesus' name, amen.

To know purpose,

to know power,

perspective.

And I think it's

also important

that you know

what's going on.
