  1. Man that was very short lived.

  2. Let's try it again nice and loud, Austin.

  3. 'cause we're all excited.

  4. Wide awake here in Nap Town.

  5. Just kidding, just kidding.

  6. You guys look really tired.

  7. Like you stayed up really late

  8. last night watching the Pacers

  9. make it to the NBA finals.

  10. It's pretty exciting stuff for a city

  11. of, you know, 25 years in the waiting.

  12. I mean, I'm hoping that they're

  13. chasing crowns, not just, uh, trophies.

  14. Right.

  15. Jesse?

  16. Something like that.

  17. It's good stuff.

  18. Hey, I don't know if you're like

  19. me, but I've been really excited

  20. watching the Pacers, uh, over

  21. the course of this little run.

  22. And I was really touched, I was

  23. really touched by the display

  24. of sportsmanship and heart.

  25. Like Halliburton was like choking, and

  26. Jaylen Brunson was praying for him.

  27. I mean, that's the kind of

  28. stuff you don't see a lot in

  29. the NBA, you know what I mean?

  30. Like that hit deep.

  31. That hit deep.

  32. And I don't know if you

  33. were paying attention last

  34. night, but in the post game.

  35. They had, uh, you know, all

  36. this stuff going on in the

  37. Indiana, you know, what is it?

  38. Game Bridge, is that what

  39. we call ourselves now?

  40. Game.

  41. And, uh, if you look right here in

  42. the back, I'm not a hundred percent

  43. sure, but I'm pretty sure that that's

  44. Joe Murray holding up a three 16 from

  45. John that he was there last night.

  46. So shout, was that your dad, Josh?

  47. Yep.

  48. Oh, well you could've, at

  49. least, you could've at least

  50. faked it for a second, man.

  51. Uh, hey, uh, I'm gonna try to keep

  52. you awake this morning 'cause I know

  53. a lot of you stayed up extra long.

  54. You prayed a lot yesterday.

  55. I totally feel that.

  56. Uh, even if you're not a basketball fan

  57. or a sports fan, when your city makes

  58. it to the championship, there's sort

  59. of a little vibe and I, and I get that.

  60. So go, I'm sorry.

  61. Go legend.

  62. Go.

  63. Go.

  64. What?

  65. Oh, Patty, go back to Oklahoma, Patty.

  66. Okay.

  67. So,

  68. uh, hey, listen, listen, so we

  69. love everybody at this church, just

  70. not for the next week and a half.

  71. And then after that,

  72. Patty, you're back in.

  73. Jeff.

  74. Jeff, good job not saying anything.

  75. So we all like someone different.

  76. We're all Patty.

  77. Patty, you're on your own.

  78. The whole church is against you.

  79. Just enjoy it.

  80. Just, just enjoy it.

  81. But you know what, Patty?

  82. You wouldn't have it any other way.

  83. So that's good stuff.

  84. Good stuff.

  85. Alright, well, hey, I'm not gonna

  86. preach about the Pacers this morning.

  87. In fact, I'm tired of the

  88. emotional rollercoaster.

  89. I'm gonna take a break and enjoy

  90. the next few days, not caring

  91. what the Pacers are doing.

  92. But I do wanna share a thought with

  93. you this morning about a passage

  94. of scripture and maybe it does sort

  95. of tie to what they've been doing.

  96. I guess I hadn't really thought

  97. about this, but I wanna share with

  98. you a little segment I'm working on

  99. called Scriptures that make you go.

  100. Are you ready, Austin?

  101. Wait, wait.

  102. Let's try it one more time.

  103. Scriptures that make you go, nuh ya.

  104. Nuh ya ya.

  105. Scriptures that make you go Nuh right.

  106. Nuh nuh, right.

  107. I don't know why I'm feeling that way.

  108. I just feel like saying, nuh.

  109. 'cause it's really good grammar.

  110. Am I right Jamie?

  111. Why won't you make eye

  112. contact this morning?

  113. That's disappointing.

  114. Okay.

  115. Scriptures that make you go, nah.

  116. And there's one scripture in

  117. particular I want to take you to.

  118. That I think is a classic

  119. iconic Uhuh scripture.

  120. It's in James chapter one, and we're gonna

  121. spend a little time there this morning.

  122. So if you wanna flip over to

  123. James chapter one, we're gonna

  124. look at verses two through four.

  125. We unpack this a little bit in some

  126. men's group stuff and some conversation.

  127. Uh, but I think it bears a little bit

  128. of a tracking together and thinking

  129. about as we walk out what it looks

  130. like to be a faithful follower

  131. of Jesus in the midst of a world.

  132. It's quite honestly, kind

  133. of a challenge, right?

  134. This is a scripture that I think

  135. is a nu-uh, kind of scripture.

  136. It goes like this.

  137. Considerate, pure joy,

  138. considerate, pure joy.

  139. My brothers, my sisters, each and

  140. every one of you considerate pure joy

  141. whenever you face trials of many kinds.

  142. Nuh right?

  143. Nuh nuh.

  144. Well, maybe we're missing something.

  145. Consider it pure joy.

  146. My brothers and sisters.

  147. Uh, maybe it doesn't apply to all of us.

  148. Maybe it's just a gender spec.

  149. No, that's not it.

  150. Brothers and sisters, we got 'em covered.

  151. It's just two genders.

  152. Just FYI, uh, brothers and

  153. sisters consider it pure joy.

  154. This phrase pure joy is interesting.

  155. Um, I don't know if you know what

  156. this means, but in the Greek,

  157. this word poss for pure means all.

  158. That's why some scriptures use, consider

  159. it all joy or consider it pure, right?

  160. Pure.

  161. A hundred percent joy.

  162. So like this scripture says, consider all

  163. aspects, everything, a hundred percent.

  164. All of it.

  165. Joy, joy, brothers, sisters, all of us.

  166. Whenever, right, whenever, anytime.

  167. Every time.

  168. All the time.

  169. You, me, us, each of us individually,

  170. not them, us face trials.

  171. Consider it all joy.

  172. Uhuh, right?

  173. Uhuh, but unfortunately.

  174. You know what I'm saying?

  175. This is a Uhhuh verse 'cause God

  176. is calling us to be people who face

  177. trial and difficulty and challenge and

  178. adversity, not with just disgruntled,

  179. sort of dutiful, diligent, whatever

  180. grimy attitude you can conjure up, but

  181. with pure all a hundred percent joy.

  182. Joy.

  183. This word joy is interesting.

  184. It, uh, it's not happiness.

  185. Just in case you're wondering,

  186. you might be thinking to

  187. yourself, considerate happiness.

  188. When you face trials, see, happiness

  189. is this sort of light and fluffy

  190. emotional thing, like sadness, the bumps

  191. around and gets, it's like a balloon

  192. that gets batted up in the ground

  193. or pull up the air or pulled down to

  194. the ground by the circumstances and

  195. situations of our life, and sometimes

  196. we're happy and sometimes we're sad and

  197. we're kind of everywhere in between.

  198. And this scripture does not

  199. say, consider it all happiness.

  200. When you face trials, you know, the

  201. early Christians were getting eaten

  202. by lions in the Coliseum in Rome, and

  203. their stories about them being put to

  204. death before thousands of people, and

  205. they had smiles on their faces and they

  206. sang songs of praise and worship to God.

  207. Now, I don't know what the, the numbers

  208. are, but I don't know anybody who's

  209. been eaten by a lion and felt happiness.

  210. I don't think that's a thing, right.

  211. Pain.

  212. Yes.

  213. But see, joy is not about emotion.

  214. Joy's deeper.

  215. The word in the Greek is carra.

  216. And it, it has this cool image.

  217. I like this phrase 'cause

  218. I don't like this phrase.

  219. Uh, calm delight.

  220. Calm delight.

  221. We had a dog named Cara.

  222. We called her Joy.

  223. She was not a calm delight and we gave

  224. her wave, but that's a different story.

  225. Um.

  226. Cara, calm, delight.

  227. See, here's the thing about joy.

  228. Joy has a really great twin and

  229. their friends, and they can't

  230. do life without each other.

  231. It's this word hope, because see, God's

  232. people have this incredible gift of hope,

  233. this incredible reality of hope that we

  234. get to live in that affects our ability.

  235. To be anchored deep in joy.

  236. In fact, when you look at hope,

  237. the biblical definition of this

  238. word is joyful and confident.

  239. Expectation, joyful, calm, delight.

  240. No matter our circumstances, no

  241. matter what we're facing, we can have

  242. joy, maybe not happiness, maybe even

  243. in the midst of pain and sadness.

  244. But we can have joy because of a confident

  245. expectation about reality, right?

  246. That this world is in our home.

  247. That these circumstances don't define

  248. us, that these lightened, momentary

  249. troubles are achieving for us at glory

  250. that far outweighs them all right?

  251. So we don't worry about the stuff that's

  252. temporary, that's un or that's seen.

  253. We look at the stuff that man is eternal

  254. and we keep our eyes fixed on that.

  255. And so we have this ridiculous ability.

  256. To find joy even in the hard things.

  257. There's a cool scripture over

  258. here in Hebrews chapter six, verse

  259. 19 says, we have this hope as an

  260. anchor for the soul firm and secure.

  261. See, happiness is an anchor

  262. deep in our soul, and happiness

  263. has nothing to do with joy.

  264. God is not the God of happiness,

  265. but he is the God of joy.

  266. That joy that he makes available

  267. to us, we get to drill down

  268. deep and anchor deep into that.

  269. And I'll tell you, the trick about joy is

  270. it's not your joy that you're living in.

  271. It's the joy of the Lord

  272. that is your strength.

  273. It's his joy.

  274. And when we're connected to that

  275. joy, that reservoir doesn't run

  276. out given the circumstances, the

  277. situations, the stuff we face.

  278. That's why people can face brutal things.

  279. My, uh, great uncle Mene Harris,

  280. right over there in in Iowa that

  281. you've heard about before, who is

  282. who, who passed away from Parkinson's

  283. disease, and he was an amazing preacher

  284. and teacher and a president of a

  285. Bible college and all these things.

  286. He talked about receiving Parkinson's,

  287. that God had entrusted him to carry

  288. that, and he lived out joy, even

  289. in the midst of a death sentence.

  290. Because of his perspective

  291. on eternity and on reality.

  292. And when we don't have joy in our life,

  293. it's usually because we're looking at the

  294. circumstances and the situations and we're

  295. deriving our hope and our joy from that.

  296. Or we haven't developed any strength

  297. to navigate hardships and difficulties.

  298. And we're gonna unpack that a

  299. little bit with this scripture.

  300. We're supposed to have joy

  301. whenever we face trials.

  302. 'cause we know that the testing of our

  303. faith is doing something significant.

  304. What is it doing?

  305. It's producing perseverance in us.

  306. This word perseverance or whatever that

  307. is, uh, endurance patience is tied to

  308. this really fun old word called constancy.

  309. Constancy, which sounds like

  310. something from Anne of Green Gables

  311. or some hideous show I had to watch

  312. as a kid with my sister constancy.

  313. But what does it mean?

  314. I mean, you can look at it

  315. looks like constant, right?

  316. And that's exactly what it is.

  317. That no matter the situation, the

  318. circumstances, no matter what's

  319. happening, we don't shrink back.

  320. We don't quit.

  321. We don't cave.

  322. There is a constancy.

  323. To how we live.

  324. And what's crazy is we serve the

  325. eternal God who never changes.

  326. He is constant, and that's

  327. part of his character.

  328. And as we become more and more

  329. like him and we walk more and more

  330. relationship with him, that part of that

  331. character begins to take shape in us.

  332. But it's never produced without

  333. hardship and difficulty and challenge.

  334. It's at work, right?

  335. Perseverance.

  336. Let it finish its work so that

  337. you may be complete and lacking.

  338. Nothing.

  339. It's not a fun passage.

  340. It's a Uhuh, huh?

  341. I don't wanna embrace that.

  342. Well, the good news is.

  343. God reiterated it again for us,

  344. really in Romans chapter five.

  345. So in case you didn't like that one,

  346. lemme take you to a different one.

  347. Chapter five of Romans verses three

  348. through four is gonna follow a very

  349. similar trajectory and help us see and

  350. unpack this just a little bit more.

  351. It says this, we also

  352. rejoice in our sufferings.

  353. Uhuh, right?

  354. What is this wretched theme we

  355. got going on Now, A, I want to

  356. know why I have to preach this.

  357. I'm hoping it's not for me.

  358. You know what I mean?

  359. Like I just try to discern

  360. what the Lord wants me to say.

  361. So I'm really hoping some of you are

  362. dealing with hard things and that's why

  363. I gotta say this and not that Jamie's

  364. gonna break some news to me right after

  365. church that I gotta deal with, right?

  366. Uh, 'cause it's no fun to

  367. deal with hard stuff, right?

  368. It is hard to rejoice.

  369. You know what rejoice means?

  370. It's you joice once and then

  371. you do it a second time.

  372. That's rejoicing, right?

  373. You joice and then you joice twice.

  374. That's all I could say, right?

  375. I don't know what that means.

  376. Joyce isn't a word, right?

  377. But think of it as joy.

  378. Joy, right?

  379. It's not just Joyce.

  380. Joy.

  381. Joy.

  382. You got twice the amount

  383. of joy you gotta do.

  384. It's really not what

  385. it means in the Greek.

  386. Check this out.

  387. This is super cool.

  388. In this coxon, my word, do you know

  389. what it means to rejoice in our

  390. sufferings in the original language,

  391. this is what the scripture said.

  392. We boast, we boast.

  393. Our sufferings.

  394. It means to boast right to brag.

  395. I got to suffer for Jesus right now.

  396. I don't know what that looks like.

  397. Eh, you didn't do it, whatever that is.

  398. The reality is that the

  399. early church understood that

  400. suffering was not a punishment.

  401. Now, listen, if you choose to do

  402. sinful things and you reap the

  403. consequences of those sinful things,

  404. and you're suffering because of it.

  405. That's a healthy consequence and

  406. sometimes a rebuke or a discipline of

  407. the Lord that you gotta walk through.

  408. That's really not what

  409. we're talking about here.

  410. What we're talking about here is trying

  411. to be faithful and obedient and God

  412. allowing testing and trials and challenges

  413. and difficulty and adversity to come

  414. into our life and how we embrace it.

  415. The early church saw

  416. it as a badge of honor.

  417. They boasted, they were proud, they

  418. bragged about getting to suffer.

  419. They counted, they rejoice.

  420. Scripture says, counted worthy

  421. to suffer for the name of Christ.

  422. And that's actually become a very

  423. popular thing in the American church.

  424. It's kind of on all the letterhead.

  425. Suffer for Jesus.

  426. Come join us on Sunday mornings.

  427. Right?

  428. It's the complete opposite

  429. of the American church.

  430. If it's hard, God's not in it.

  431. If it's hard, it's probably the devil

  432. trying to stop me or God telling

  433. me, no, no, don't, don't push.

  434. Don't press, don't lean,

  435. don't endure, don't persevere.

  436. We see adversarial stuff as enemy

  437. stuff and sometimes God allows things

  438. to be hard to develop something in us.

  439. And instead of embracing it and

  440. instead of saying, Lord, what do

  441. you want to teach me through this?

  442. We just turn and run the other direction.

  443. That's, I mean, there's

  444. a theological term.

  445. It's called weenie Christian,

  446. is what that's called.

  447. Right?

  448. Because the reality is it's

  449. following Jesus's heart.

  450. Jesus said, pick up your

  451. cross and follow me.

  452. In this world, you're gonna have trouble.

  453. But at the first sign of trouble,

  454. the first sign of persecution,

  455. hardship, difficulty, we run the

  456. other way and we sit in the corner

  457. and we cry and we fuss and we talk

  458. about how hard it is to follow Jesus.

  459. And this isn't what I signed up for.

  460. And probably it wasn't because

  461. the preacher who preached to you

  462. said, follow Jesus and you're

  463. gonna get lollipops and play with

  464. puppy dogs and slide down rainbows.

  465. It's gonna be amazing.

  466. But that's not the message

  467. Jesus gave to his people.

  468. He said, you're gonna, the

  469. world's gonna hate you.

  470. You.

  471. That doesn't mean the

  472. world's gonna like you.

  473. It doesn't mean the

  474. world's gonna tolerate you.

  475. It doesn't mean the world's gonna be

  476. cool and and kinda chill with you.

  477. No, it's gonna hate you.

  478. Well, that should be a pretty clear sign

  479. from our savior who told us that, that

  480. we're gonna face adversity and challenge.

  481. So how are we gonna embrace it?

  482. Well, maybe our sharing time.

  483. And I figured that's why you didn't share

  484. a lot this morning 'cause you wanted to

  485. wait for me to kind of stage it better.

  486. Maybe our sharing time.

  487. It needs to simply be Ha Hey

  488. guys, sorry you missed out.

  489. I got to suffer this week.

  490. It was amazing.

  491. God's doing cool things in my life.

  492. Thank you.

  493. Don't pray for me to stop.

  494. I'm, I'm still going.

  495. Right?

  496. We hear all the time from

  497. the persecuted church.

  498. They don't want us to

  499. pray for their release.

  500. They don't want us to pray that

  501. they'll be able to get out and

  502. get back with their family.

  503. They pray.

  504. They ask us to pray that they would

  505. endure and they would stand and they

  506. would be faithful in the midst of

  507. what God's handed to them to do.

  508. Man, we gotta develop some muscle.

  509. And to be honest with you,

  510. that's really what this is about.

  511. Learning to embrace the hard things

  512. and to grow and develop through them.

  513. We rejoice in our sufferings because we

  514. know this word's important that we know.

  515. Listen, God is not just haphazardly,

  516. randomly allowing you to careen through

  517. the craziness of life, wondering

  518. if you'll learn things or wondering

  519. if something will make sense or

  520. wondering what's going on himself.

  521. He knows what he's doing.

  522. He has a plan and a purpose for every

  523. single thing in every single day.

  524. In every single moment that we face.

  525. He's at work.

  526. We don't believe it, and

  527. we don't yield to it.

  528. But he's at work, man.

  529. He's doing it.

  530. And for those of us who understand

  531. that he's doing that, we can know

  532. that what I'm walking through isn't

  533. pointless and it isn't purposeless.

  534. I'm gonna rejoice and I'm gonna have hope.

  535. With joyful and confident expectation

  536. even in the midst of hard things,

  537. because I know that God's at work.

  538. I know that God is

  539. accomplishing a purpose here.

  540. I know he's doing something

  541. right and what is that?

  542. Well, he's helping us walk through

  543. this experience because he's

  544. suffering, produces endurance, he says.

  545. Endurance, that same word that we had

  546. a minute ago for constancy, right?

  547. Perseverance and constancy.

  548. When we walk through hard things, we get

  549. stronger and we're not as likely to fall

  550. down to quit, to throw up our hands.

  551. Because we've developed spiritual muscle

  552. through suffering that produces endurance,

  553. and that word produces is really important

  554. because it denotes a process, right?

  555. There's production.

  556. There's creation.

  557. It's a process that God

  558. is doing in our life.

  559. You don't build muscle by eating

  560. at Dairy Queen every night and

  561. reading Muscle Clips or watching

  562. them on TikTok with a blizzard.

  563. That's not how you do it.

  564. I've been trying that process.

  565. It's not working, you

  566. know what I'm saying?

  567. Like it's not how it works.

  568. There is a process to build muscle

  569. and strength and endurance to compete.

  570. I don't wanna reference the poor Pacers,

  571. but man, there's a process to be able to

  572. get to the NBA finals that you have to

  573. work and be committed to and continually

  574. work the process and be faithful to the

  575. process and not bail on the process, and

  576. you can get to a desired destination.

  577. But then when it comes to

  578. spiritual things, we're like,

  579. well, I don't think that applies.

  580. God will just do whatever, and I'll watch.

  581. That's not how he works.

  582. He wants to produce in us

  583. endurance and perseverance.

  584. And the more we do it,

  585. the stronger we become.

  586. The more we do it, the

  587. more resilient we become.

  588. The more we do it, the less crazy it

  589. is that we have to do it the next time.

  590. But don't miss this.

  591. God said that there's gonna

  592. be trouble in this life.

  593. So doesn't it make sense that he needs

  594. to help us build strength and endurance

  595. if we're gonna face hard things, if

  596. we're gonna have to pick up our cross

  597. and follow him, if the world's gonna

  598. hate us, doesn't it make sense that if

  599. he was good, he'd be like, Hey, we need

  600. to build a little spiritual muscle.

  601. We need to help you get a little

  602. stronger so that you don't

  603. just get destroyed, right?

  604. It's hard if you're a parent helping

  605. your kids be strong to face hard things.

  606. But when you're a parent, you begin

  607. to realize that if I protect my child,

  608. if I bubble wrap my kid, and I never

  609. let 'em learn or stretch or grow or

  610. experience even hard things, they

  611. don't develop and they don't grow.

  612. You can protect them to the point

  613. that they don't ever develop.

  614. The resiliency and the perseverance

  615. that we need as followers of Jesus

  616. suffering produces endurance, endurance.

  617. Produces character.

  618. And this word character is really

  619. cool because this word character in

  620. the Greek here, this, uh, the chemos

  621. means proof and it means approved.

  622. This is godly character that gets

  623. developed in us that is proof, but

  624. it's also being a workman or a work

  625. woman approved of God as we endure.

  626. So we walk through hard things.

  627. To grow strong spiritual muscles

  628. to endure and persevere, and

  629. as we persevere and endure, it

  630. begins to build in us character.

  631. That's the evidence and the proof

  632. of what God's doing, and it gives

  633. proof to our own hearts and our

  634. own minds that, Hey, I can do this.

  635. I can stand here faithfully with

  636. the Lord and not just quit and cry

  637. and throw up my hands and run away.

  638. There, there's a man, there's a, there's

  639. a real possibility here that we can move

  640. in progression and process in development

  641. that God's doing in my life, right?

  642. He's making godly character, but

  643. it doesn't happen because you sit

  644. in church or you read something.

  645. It happens because when suffering and

  646. hardship and trials and difficulty

  647. come, you keep pressing and you keep

  648. growing and you don't quit, and you

  649. walk through those things to develop the

  650. kind of spiritual muscles that begin to

  651. form the actual character of your life.

  652. Approved.

  653. And then character scripture

  654. says produces hope.

  655. Hope that's an interesting twist.

  656. This word hope El Peace.

  657. It's the Spanish word for El peace.

  658. I'm just kidding.

  659. It's not that word at all,

  660. but it just sounds like it.

  661. So it kind of cracked me up because

  662. in some ways it sort of makes sense.

  663. I tried.

  664. Right?

  665. I did my best.

  666. I did my best.

  667. Right?

  668. There is no, I probably

  669. said a cuss word in Spanish.

  670. I wanna apologize.

  671. I probably said something wrong.

  672. Alright.

  673. It's not lp.

  674. It's not lp, but this word LP is

  675. joyful, confident, expectation.

  676. Right?

  677. Which is sort of interesting

  678. 'cause we started with this and

  679. this becomes the end result.

  680. Interesting.

  681. Well, this word produces

  682. here is interesting because

  683. character produces hope.

  684. It's really not creating hope, right?

  685. It's not creating from nothing.

  686. You could use the word creating,

  687. I guess if you were thinking

  688. it's creating even more.

  689. But this production is really building

  690. upon the hope that is in us from

  691. the beginning in a small way that

  692. develops into something greater, right?

  693. It's why the NLT uses this

  694. strengthening our confident hope.

  695. It's what character does.

  696. It strengthens the hope that we

  697. already possess, but it begins

  698. to get stronger and bigger.

  699. So in some ways, we start with

  700. hope and we end with hope.

  701. Because it's reinforced, but our knowledge

  702. and our understanding and our belief

  703. and our knowing what God is doing, and

  704. that he will do what he says he will

  705. do, gets proved out in the process of

  706. us walking through hard things and being

  707. faithful and not quitting and whining,

  708. and fussing, and crying and running right.

  709. In fact, I want to throw this at you.

  710. Romans 1513 says, now may the

  711. God of hope fill you with all joy

  712. and peace as you trust in him.

  713. This is a cool statement.

  714. May the God of hope not the God who

  715. hopes not the God who gives us hope,

  716. not the God who wants us to hope.

  717. The God of hope, you know what that means.

  718. That's substantive.

  719. His substance is hope.

  720. He's not the God who knows about hope.

  721. He's the God who is Hope He is hope.

  722. And the God of hope wants us to endure

  723. and to stand and to be determined, and

  724. to not quit and to keep pressing on so

  725. that we become more and more like him.

  726. Right?

  727. Not just people who hope, but

  728. that you and I, his people become

  729. people of hope through the process

  730. of finding joy connected to him.

  731. Yes, at the start,

  732. trusting him, holding on.

  733. But man, we don't lose hope.

  734. Because we can't, we can't run outta hope.

  735. He's hope.

  736. And if we're connected to him and we

  737. keep that connection strong and we anchor

  738. deep into that space, no matter what

  739. adversity, what challenge, what hardship,

  740. none of our circumstances matter.

  741. They just don't.

  742. Yes, we get consumed with him

  743. and we get distracted with him.

  744. But the reality is the more and more

  745. we walk through the process of watching

  746. him give us strength and endurance

  747. and shaping and molding our character,

  748. the more that hope becomes who we are.

  749. We know hope.

  750. We know the God of hope, and we become

  751. people of hope, not people who hope.

  752. Who hope God is gonna do something?

  753. Who hope in the Lord?

  754. No.

  755. We are hope of the Lord itself in

  756. us, on display, joyful, confident

  757. expectation every day, every

  758. circumstance, every situation.

  759. Because of who he is, right?

  760. And what he's been doing in us to mold and

  761. shape more and more into his character.

  762. And I don't know what you're facing.

  763. I don't know what you're dealing with.

  764. I don't know the circumstances

  765. specific to your life this week.

  766. Or the weak that's ahead of you.

  767. But I want you to know that there

  768. isn't a single thing you can't face

  769. with joyful expectation, confident

  770. that God is at work, confident that

  771. he has a way through it and confident

  772. that you began a good work and

  773. you was gonna see it to completion

  774. right in the day of Christ Jesus.

  775. If we continue to press on and

  776. press in to what he wants to do.

  777. Don't run from the hard

  778. trials and challenges.

  779. Don't quit.

  780. Don't accept a lesser path that

  781. won't help you grow to become the

  782. person that God wants you to be.

  783. He's gonna help you stand, and he's gonna

  784. help you believe and know who he is, but

  785. it will not happen without adversity and

  786. hardship and difficulty and challenge.

  787. So we gotta be ready to embrace

  788. that knowing that he's at work.

  789. Lord, thank you for

  790. scriptures that we don't like.

  791. Lord, we are people who get

  792. consumed and affected deeply by the

  793. circumstances of every single day.

  794. We take our eyes off of you and

  795. we look at the sea around us,

  796. and like Peter, we begin to sink.

  797. Father, I pray that you would

  798. help us be people who are.

  799. Anchored deep into you, into the

  800. reservoir of hope that's available to

  801. us, and that we would face challenges

  802. and trials and difficulties with pure,

  803. all in joy, knowing that you're at

  804. work, knowing that we can trust you.

  805. And knowing that though he

  806. slay me yet, will I follow?

  807. This world can throw nothing at us,

  808. nothing in the light of eternity.

  809. We are safe in the palm of your hand.

  810. So God give us the courage to walk

  811. through the adversity and the hard

  812. things to embrace them even with joy.

  813. And maybe in the midst of it, help a whole

  814. lot of other people who are walking in

  815. this fallen world realize that there's

  816. some hope that they don't even know

  817. about, that they could have access to.

  818. The way we shine in the midst of it.

  819. Thank you for entrusting us

  820. to walk in this dark world

  821. and shine brightly for you.

  822. I pray that you would help us

  823. to live out what this hope looks

  824. like in all the circumstances

  825. we face, and give us strength to

  826. do that, I pray in Jesus' name.

  827. Amen.

  828. Amen.

  829. Well, hey, speaking of hope.

  830. I was at, uh, the waters, uh, celebration

  831. party there the other night for Mia.

  832. It was really great and I had a cool talk

  833. with Drake and he came up to me and he was

  834. talking about dropping dimes and assists.

  835. I didn't get all of it, but what I

  836. heard him say was this, I sure hope

  837. I could do announcements on Sunday.

  838. That's what I heard.

  839. So Drake j Jed, you guys are right there.

  840. Why don't all three of you jump up here?

  841. Grab one of those mics over there

  842. and come join us real quick.

  843. We got a lot of stuff going on.

  844. Verla, why don't you sneak

  845. up here real quick, Ryan.

  846. Scott is, is Ryan in

  847. here or is he next door?

  848. Scott?

  849. Yeah.

  850. Why don't you walk up here

  851. real fast with that man.

  852. Hey Andrew, don't go too far 'cause

  853. you're the lunch date, so, alright.

  854. Hey, we got a lot of stuff going on.

  855. We're gonna let these guys do

  856. their boring announcements first.

  857. Okay.

  858. And then we'll get to the cool stuff.

  859. Wait, wait, no pressure was first.

  860. No, no, that's not what I said.

  861. I said the exact opposite

  862. of that just now.

  863. Alright, so, hey Ryan.

  864. Thanks for, thank you Scott.

  865. That was a placeholder.

  866. So, hey, lemme see that

  867. mic real quick guys.

  868. Uh, these two got added in and they

  869. got missed in the uh, loop thing,

  870. but two really cool things happening.

  871. Ryan, tell us real quick

  872. about this one and where those

  873. flyers are out in the entryway.

  874. So, Leslie Rob, um, if you are a

  875. teacher, you probably have heard

  876. of board teachers comedy tour.

  877. Um, but Leslie Rob is one of

  878. the com comedians and teachers

  879. on that tour, and she's coming

  880. to White Rock, um, August 15th.

  881. And, um, we are offering the

  882. tickets for free for a limited

  883. time if you sign up early.

  884. Um, so you can take this to

  885. any teachers that you know.

  886. Um, and this QR code, they scan

  887. it, they fill out the Google form

  888. and we will get them their tickets.

  889. Um, tickets are $25

  890. after we close that and.

  891. I think we're gonna do it

  892. for about another week.

  893. Offer tickets for free.

  894. We'll see something like that.

  895. Um, so if you know an educator,

  896. a teacher, friend, we really

  897. want to pack this place out.

  898. We can get 250 tickets.

  899. Yes.

  900. And, uh, we wanna bless

  901. the teachers in our area.

  902. Bless as many teachers.

  903. You know, some teachers,

  904. you are a teacher yourself.

  905. That could be a good deal for you.

  906. Yep.

  907. We know where you can get a free ticket.

  908. So these would be in

  909. the inch way out front.

  910. Yep.

  911. On the stool.

  912. On the stool out there.

  913. Yep.

  914. But now you're getting hungry.

  915. I could tell.

  916. So.

  917. Um, after the servers one Sunday, Ryan

  918. came up to me with a great suggestion.

  919. We did this at a pantry out in Greenfield

  920. and I totally forgot about it, so I'm

  921. gonna let Ryan tell you about this.

  922. So this actually came out of a, um,

  923. Facebook post I saw from, um, someone that

  924. I worked with at Noblesville, a parent.

  925. Um, and, um, wait, wait a second.

  926. We got some really good

  927. display guys right here.

  928. They're bored.

  929. So let's, let's get this

  930. opened up here, guys.

  931. You guys spread that around.

  932. Just hold those up really

  933. high so everybody can see.

  934. Keep going, Ryan.

  935. You're doing great.

  936. This is a great sales pitch.

  937. So her daughter is collecting these items.

  938. Um, so it is a cake mix, um, a

  939. disposable pan, candles and frosting.

  940. Um, and you mix that with a

  941. mix, the cake mix with a can of.

  942. Um, some sort of pop, whatever

  943. they choose without the icing,

  944. right, without the icing.

  945. And, um, it bakes just like a regular

  946. cake so there's no eggs required.

  947. Everything is, um, can be stored.

  948. And I'll get that recipe

  949. out and put it in back.

  950. Right.

  951. We'll have the recipe.

  952. So just to clarify, this is gonna

  953. go in our yellow food pantry.

  954. This isn't just for you.

  955. Okay.

  956. I thought we were supposed

  957. to make cakes for Ryan.

  958. I didn't understand.

  959. This is good.

  960. It's a kit so that people who

  961. maybe otherwise can't afford a

  962. birthday cake, a birthday cake,

  963. would have the ability to, to.

  964. Celebrate a birthday with a cake.

  965. Um, and all the items are non-perishable.

  966. So it means that if someone maybe,

  967. um, doesn't have a refrigerator,

  968. they can still do this.

  969. They can still enjoy a birthday cake.

  970. Very nice.

  971. Alright, great addition

  972. to our food pantry fund.

  973. Big round applause for you two guys.

  974. Thanks for helping with all that.

  975. You got that back out there.

  976. Ryan's got those flyers and now

  977. the moment you've all been waiting

  978. for, did you shut my mic off?

  979. Austin, know what you got?

  980. Uh, that's what I thought.

  981. Alright, so the moment you've all

  982. been waiting for the announcements

  983. by the three wise men, go ahead.

  984. Who wants this first one?

  985. Wait, what?

  986. Next door in 30 minutes we have guys.

  987. You're staring at the TV man.

  988. You're not selling anybody.

  989. Oh, I can't tell.

  990. What is it?

  991. All ladies invited?

  992. Sorry.

  993. Andrew Gray.

  994. I don't know.

  995. It's just not in the baby.

  996. Shower.

  997. Shower.

  998. It's a baby shower.

  999. Hey, so for the record,

1000. uh, all ladies are invited.

1001. It's really decked out awesome over there.

1002. 30 minutes after we dismiss, uh, all

1003. the ladies are invited to head over

1004. there that want to be a part of that.

1005. It's gonna be really, really sweet.

  1006. Cute.

1007. Uh, there's two babies, so it's twice

1008. as much fun as a normal baby shower.

1009. And, uh, a bunch of the guys are gonna

1010. drag Andrew to some really fancy place

  1011. like McDonald's or something I heard.

1012. So make sure you catch, get in

1013. on that guys if you want to.

  1014. Alright.

  1015. Jet, you're up, man.

  1016. What do you got?

  1017. Uh, tonight.

  1018. Ba bam.

1019. Go to youth group guys.

  1020. Ooh.

  1021. Alright.

  1022. Let's go.

  1023. I, I might come.

  1024. Maybe.

  1025. Good sell.

  1026. Good sell.

  1027. Hey.

1028. And then college age group.

  1029. What's going on, man?

1030. Uh, it's not meeting tonight.

  1031. Oh, not tonight.

  1032. That's a bummer.

  1033. But what's good news?

  1034. Uh, college cookout next

  1035. Saturday, six to nine.

  1036. Ooh.

  1037. At our house.

  1038. So, yeah.

  1039. So if you're a graduated senior

1040. or you are a college age person,

1041. come to my house, eat some food.

  1042. It'll be great.

1043. Then you got men's group this Wednesday,

1044. it's 7:00 PM right across the street.

  1045. Yeah.

  1046. Cool.

  1047. Some cool people leading

1048. that one I heard this week.

1049. And Jet, since you're on the youth group

1050. theme Youth retreat June 28th to July 2nd.

  1051. Make sure you're there.

1052. Hey, tell us about this

  1053. Saturday fundraiser too.

  1054. Would you?

  1055. Oh yeah.

  1056. Fundraiser on Saturday.

  1057. Scan the QR code.

  1058. There's a morning activity.

1059. Josh, all the teens know

  1060. about this for sure.

  1061. No.

  1062. Nope.

  1063. Hey guys, there's, there's like a

1064. couple hundred bucks, two 50 bucks,

1065. something like that up in the air

1066. for people to help get some help for

1067. retreat, for a little work project

1068. at the Harshman offices or something.

1069. So catch Josh afterwards Saturday.

  1070. It's gonna be great.

  1076. That's exciting stuff.

  1077. Yeah.

  1078. Yeah.

1079. So, and where he is at, put him to work.

  1080. Yep, yep.

  1081. Got his degree.

1082. Are you excited about that, Jed?

  1083. Ah, sure.

  1084. Yeah.

  1085. There we go.

  1086. Perfect.

  1087. All right.

  1088. Okay.

1089. And then we got VBS.

1090. And honestly, VBS is so fun.

1091. Like all y'all should come.

  1092. It's super fun.

1093. I was thinking about it yesterday.

  1094. It was pretty cool.

1095. You were just thinking about it yesterday.

  1096. Yeah, I was.

1097. What were you, what were

  1098. you thinking about it?

1099. I was thinking about like going to

  1100. Culver's and Applebee's afterwards.

  1101. Oh.

1102. And like, and like hanging

1103. out with all the kids there.

  1104. It, it's pretty fun.

1105. You know, more, more the after party.

  1106. I got you.

  1107. Okay.

  1108. That's cool.

  1109. Yeah.

  1116. That's good.

  1117. People know about this.

  1131. That's the deal.

  1132. Weekend of August 1st.

  1133. That seems like fun.

  1137. That's gonna come up.

  1138. Quick catch.

1139. Pastor Marty, if you can.

1140. If you want to go, we're gonna

1141. go up to Pine River, Minnesota.

1142. Kinda like, uh, we did a few years back

1143. before COVID World and uh, I think our

1144. max was like 52 guys, so we're gonna try

1145. not to do that, but it'll be August 1st.

1146. If you have a high school student and

1147. you want to go and they want to go

1148. with you, that could be a good combo.

1149. You're invited to be a part of that,

1150. but it'll probably be like a Thursday

1151. night, maybe a Friday day trip,

1152. get back on Monday kind of thing.

  1153. A lot of fun if you've

1154. been a part of that.

  1155. So cool.

1156. Hey, anybody who was a guest today,

1157. if you wanna apologize for us.

  1158. No.

  1159. Okay.

  1160. Very well.

1161. This is what we do every

1162. time, so this is what we do.

  1163. We are not, sorry.

1164. This is what we do.

  1165. Hey, if you're a guest, thrilled

1166. you endured and stuck it out.

1169. It's fun to be a part of love.

  1170. This crazy church family.

1171. We got lots going on.

1172. And it is my hope that the God of all

1173. hope will fill you with joy and peace

1174. as you trust in Him and walk this

1175. thing out with joy, good things, good

1176. things he has in store and he is good

1177. and we can trust him as we do that.

1178. So love you, white Rock.

1179. Go do something with baby showers

1180. or your friends and share the

1181. good news of the Jesus' love.
