  1. Well, I think we call

  2. that sermon sabotage.

  3. Everybody, just so you know,

  4. see what great love the

  5. father has lavished on us.

  6. There's a Greek word that means

  7. gushed out, that God's love has gushed

  8. out for us and on us and into us.

  9. Look at the incredible love that God

  10. has for us that we should be called.

  11. Children of God that we become heirs,

  12. that we become part of the family

  13. of God and that is what we are.

  14. That's all I'm gonna do today because

  15. uh, I have a whole bunch of awesome

  16. stuff prepared that I'm not gonna get to.

  17. And then, you know, somebody decided

  18. to go with this idea during the

  19. sermon, so I'm just not sure about

  20. the crinkling chip concept here,

  21. Tina, but I see what you're up to.

  22. Fun stuff.

  23. Hey, I was thinking about this though Dad.

  24. You're all that and a bag of chips

  25. and I was listening to the sharing

  26. time and I gotta be honest, I

  27. heard some variations of that.

  28. My dad is all that.

  29. And maybe Jed, when you said he's a lot,

  30. you meant a lot like Ana Bagga chips.

  31. I'm not sure.

  32. But Melissa listening to you share

  33. about my dad, I was thinking, you

  34. know, I've been sharing my dad with I.

  35. Everybody my whole life, you know?

  36. And what's crazy about that is

  37. I don't, uh, I don't resent it.

  38. I don't feel like there wasn't enough

  39. of my dad to go around, because that's

  40. the crazy thing about love, right?

  41. When you are connected to God's

  42. incredible love, man, there is no end.

  43. I still remember the fear, you

  44. know, Andrew, you're doing it

  45. like two in a row right there.

  46. I, so I don't know what that's like with

  47. the two kids at one, you know, one whammy.

  48. But when you're looking at your second

  49. kid coming and you already love your first

  50. kid like crazy, man, I remember doing

  51. the math and it didn't make sense, right?

  52. Like, how, how am I going to love Jed?

  53. As much as I love Josiah, I'm

  54. obviously gonna have to chop this

  55. love in half, make a decision, right?

  56. Or maybe I just, you know, go

  57. 90 10 some days and flip it.

  58. I mean, what's, what's the play, right?

  59. The math never made sense.

  60. And, and I genuinely, I probably

  61. didn't share it with a lot of people,

  62. but I was worried about it 'cause.

  63. I gotta tell you, man, one of

  64. my favorite things in this whole

  65. life and this gift that God's

  66. given us is getting to be a dad.

  67. I can't speak to

  68. motherhood on Mother's Day.

  69. I kinda let you ladies talk and

  70. then I just stand back and be quiet.

  71. I've learned that in marriage, but I

  72. recognize that like there's something

  73. special about motherhood, right?

  74. But I get dad hood fatherhood, right?

  75. Dad from the hood.

  76. I don't know.

  77. But I understand what

  78. it is to be a dad, man.

  79. And I love fiercely.

  80. I love my kids.

  81. Highly invested.

  82. Would do anything, would

  83. sacrifice anything.

  84. I talked to some people this

  85. week who were talking about how.

  86. You know, there's parents who like

  87. don't want their kids to achieve

  88. more than them, or they kind of

  89. feel threatened in that space.

  90. And I was like, dude, I hope my kids

  91. make me look like a pathetic loser

  92. in comparison to what they get to do

  93. and become in the eyes of the Lord

  94. and for all the eternity, right?

  95. I'd love to be left in the

  96. dust at who they become.

  97. 'cause they matter more

  98. to me than I matter to me.

  99. Right?

  100. I don't even care.

  101. But I remember staring at this little

  102. baby Jed, who arrives on the scene.

  103. He wasn't little and he was a lot.

  104. He was a lot, right?

  105. But going into that room where

  106. Jamie was having this C-section, I

  107. was like, okay, here it comes, man.

  108. Who do I love?

  109. Jed or Josiah?

  110. Jed or Josiah?

  111. Which one?

  112. What's it gonna be?

  113. What's gonna happen?

  114. And man, that moment when I saw Jed and

  115. I realized I loved him a hundred percent.

  116. I love Josiah a hundred percent.

  117. And love is exponential, man.

  118. It just, it can't be quantified.

  119. It just, it's incredible.

  120. And when the love of our heavenly father

  121. lives in us, the way that we can love, and

  122. I looked at that from the eyes of my dad a

  123. little bit, thinking about all the people

  124. that he's loved and all the people that

  125. sacrificed to help who weren't biological,

  126. but man, they, they became family.

  127. And part of our DNA is

  128. in the church is family.

  129. It's kind of why this morning, those

  130. of you who paid your ticket to get

  131. an awesome sermon are just getting

  132. me rambling about family because

  133. this is really what church is, right.

  134. It's okay to sabotage the amazing

  135. message, or maybe it's better

  136. some days just leave it right to

  137. be able to just share together.

  138. Testify together to the goodness of God.

  139. 'cause we're not here to

  140. be impressed with music.

  141. We're not here to be

  142. impressed with knowledge.

  143. I mean, those are nice

  144. things to have, man.

  145. We need to be here to experience

  146. the presence of a heavenly Father

  147. who has gushed out love on us

  148. and invited us to be family.

  149. And I was thinking about adoption the

  150. other day and, uh, I love talking to

  151. kids who've gone through adoption and

  152. listening to the sharing this morning.

  153. There's a lot of people who, for

  154. Father's Day, there's these holes and

  155. cavities and longings and, and wondering,

  156. you know, and, and missing and, and

  157. I can't help but think of adoption.

  158. I was reading something this week from

  159. somebody who, uh, who was adopted and just

  160. talking about that being chosen thing.

  161. Right?

  162. You got the who the cool, like

  163. got your day for adoption.

  164. And I tell people who are

  165. adopted this, man, wow.

  166. What an incredible story.

  167. What incredible love.

  168. See, like me in my house, my parents,

  169. you know, they were doing some stuff.

  170. I don't wanna talk about it in front

  171. of everybody, but they were doing some

  172. stuff and they had no choice, right?

  173. I was the result and

  174. they got stuck with me.

  175. They didn't choose me,

  176. they didn't pick me out.

  177. They didn't build any kind of

  178. connection or, or like they

  179. just, this is what you got.

  180. You got Andy, right?

  181. But I don't tell this to

  182. the kids, just so you know.

  183. But like when, when you get adopted,

  184. you get chosen, you get chosen.

  185. Like the parents had a choice, right?

  186. I don't want this kid, I changed my mind.

  187. That doesn't work really

  188. well biologically.

  189. If we're following Jesus,

  190. we got what we got, right?

  191. And kids, you can't get outta this either.

  192. You're stuck with your parents.

  193. So just happy Father's Day.

  194. But at the end of the day, God chose

  195. you and he chose me and he said, Hey.

  196. You don't just get to come be a servant

  197. at my house and you don't get to just

  198. come hang out and be part of the group

  199. and watch from the stands as my biological

  200. children and I feast around the table.

  201. You get status right as legitimate sons

  202. and daughters in the family of God.

  203. And that is what we are.

  204. And that's crazy cool.

  205. And we don't understand it in its full.

  206. No way.

  207. We can't, we can't grasp the

  208. entirety of what that means.

  209. But to latch onto just a little bit,

  210. to recognize that the God of all

  211. creation wants you in his family,

  212. he doesn't have to, he didn't make

  213. a deal where, okay, Jesus, you die.

  214. And then anybody who says the

  215. secret prayer, they get in

  216. whether we want 'em or not.

  217. No application, right?

  218. He wants you.

  219. He loves you.

  220. He loves you.

  221. Even knowing who you are,

  222. even knowing what you've done.

  223. I look in the mirror sometimes and

  224. I'm like, nah, God, for real, right?

  225. Like why?

  226. Well that's 'cause his great love.

  227. That is exponential and you

  228. can't quantify it and you can't

  229. mathematically figure it out.

  230. But he has enough love that he

  231. loves you and he loves the person

  232. sitting next to you and me.

  233. And he loves the person that hates

  234. him to the full and to the max.

  235. His heart bursts with love.

  236. It gushes out for us his kids.

  237. That's a crazy cool love.

  238. And some of us feel like maybe we don't

  239. have the ability to celebrate Father's

  240. Day without feeling some sadness.

  241. And I totally get that in this life

  242. and in this world that we live.

  243. But man, I was just reading Revelation

  244. this week and there's a day coming.

  245. Every tear gets wiped away.

  246. Every bit of sadness is gone and God's

  247. people are hanging out with him forever

  248. and ever in a space that is beyond

  249. our wildest dreams and imaginations.

  250. So full of love, that there's just no

  251. room for longing or sadness or sorrow.

  252. There's just no space.

  253. 'cause God's love envelops

  254. everything and everyone beyond

  255. capacity and that day is coming for

  256. all of us that are in his family.

  257. And that's a cool invitation,

  258. but we get to experience even

  259. just a little bit of that.

  260. Now we get to be the love of God to

  261. one another, as you guys have shared

  262. in some cool ways, trying to step in

  263. and be surrogate uncles and dads and

  264. cousins and nephews and all the different

  265. pieces that come into that place.

  266. Man, don't mistake how important

  267. or don't let the devil tell you

  268. how unimportant your role and

  269. involvement in the body of Christ is.

  270. Satan's does an awesome job of

  271. convincing the church that you come

  272. and you sit and you watch, and you're

  273. a spectator, and that's what church is.

  274. It's part of why I scrapped

  275. what I was gonna do this morning

  276. because I just wanted to remind

  277. you, it's not what church is.

  278. It's not a show, it's not a

  279. performance, it's not a presentation.

  280. It's God's people, the family of

  281. God coming together, loving him,

  282. worshiping him, and loving one another.

  283. And you guys, man.

  284. Your love for each other.

  285. That's a powerful weapon against all

  286. the lies and the deception of the

  287. enemy that he's trying to perpetrate

  288. in people's lives all around you.

  289. We sit in this space and there's

  290. a lot of hurt and there's a lot of

  291. pain, and there's a lot of struggle,

  292. and there's shame and there's guilt.

  293. There's some joys and some

  294. great things in there too.

  295. But man, we're not sitting here

  296. with a group of perfect people.

  297. If you heard that this morning,

  298. um, you missed some pieces, right?

  299. Because I mean, I love being a

  300. dad, but I'm not a perfect dad.

  301. Jed and Josiah and I had some great

  302. emotional talks this week with some tears,

  303. and a lot of it was because their dad was

  304. sucking at being a good dad in the moment.

  305. Let's be real with that.

  306. Like it's not perfection that we

  307. live out, we're striving in real life

  308. and pressure and weight and things

  309. happen and stuff comes into play and

  310. we, we push each other, we press and

  311. there's, there's all kinds of stuff.

  312. But at the end of the day, what I

  313. want my kids to see is authenticity.

  314. In my walk with Jesus and with them.

  315. I'm not trying, I'm trying to be

  316. as, I'm trying to be a perfect dad.

  317. Lemme tell you, I am, but none

  318. of us in this fallen world

  319. are gonna hit those marks.

  320. But we gotta love through the

  321. brokenness and we gotta reach and we

  322. gotta speak life in the midst of it.

  323. And we gotta be willing to

  324. just be honest and say, Hey.

  325. Dad screwed that one up, man, I did.

  326. I need to do better at that.

  327. And we walk forward because I'm not

  328. trying to pretend like I'm a perfect dad.

  329. I'm trying to be more and more like that

  330. heavenly father, and have that family

  331. resemblance of who God is in my life.

  332. And I wanna show my sons what that

  333. looks like as they walk things out.

  334. And so if you're sitting here

  335. and you're thinking, man, I

  336. had a really messed up dad.

  337. We all did.

  338. We all did.

  339. We all saw, our dads have moments

  340. where in their brokenness, they

  341. said something or they acted in a

  342. certain way or pressure got to 'em.

  343. We all have that.

  344. And the enemy would love to speak

  345. that as the existence of dad and the,

  346. the legacy of dad and, and no, that's

  347. not the whole picture of what God was

  348. doing in the life even of your own dad.

  349. Some of us had dads who

  350. weren't following Jesus at all.

  351. And those are hard, hard

  352. realities to walk through and see.

  353. It doesn't change the importance of

  354. trying to honor what dad tried to

  355. bring to the table even, even so small.

  356. But man, whatever you've walked through,

  357. whatever your experience has been,

  358. our heavenly Father adopts us in.

  359. And you can celebrate Father's Day

  360. regardless of what your earthly

  361. father experience was like.

  362. Regardless of the pain and the

  363. hurt, regardless of what you think

  364. of as the joys and all the good

  365. stuff, he's worthy of our praise

  366. and our honor on a father's day.

  367. And you guys did an awesome job of

  368. revealing that in your sharing and in

  369. your worship together this morning.

  370. And so I'm not gonna beat you up with

  371. a really long, awesome sermon that

  372. would've had you cheering on the way out.

  373. This is what we call like

  374. overselling for next week.

  375. Maybe God will let me use it then, and

  376. you'll be like, I'm glad I missed it.

  377. That was rough.

  378. But here's what I want to do to

  379. close our time together this morning.

  380. Because you've heard plenty of truth.

  381. You've heard plenty about God's love and

  382. you've been invited into relationship

  383. with him if you're not there.

  384. But if you are there, you've been

  385. reminded, not by me, by each other

  386. of the incredible love of God that

  387. calls you his son, that invites

  388. you into relationship with him.

  389. And that's a pretty beautiful thing.

  390. So if you're a dad, we already had you

  391. do this once, but it's a cardio day.

  392. Dads, would you stand

  393. up for just a moment?

  394. And we're gonna pray as

  395. we close this morning.

  396. Now, I just wanna say this ladies,

  397. I'm not really even sure what time it

  398. is 'cause it doesn't really matter.

  399. We might be getting out a little

  400. early and it's not 'cause it's

  401. Father's Day and we want to go grill.

  402. I don't want any, any misunderstanding.

  403. I'm just trying to be

  404. obedient to the Holy Spirit.

  405. Move on.

  406. But we're gonna take a moment here

  407. and, uh, pray over all these dads.

  408. And if this is one of your dads

  409. standing up, would you do me a favor?

  410. Would you just kinda put your hand on 'em?

  411. Maybe stand up next to him if you need to.

  412. That's okay.

  413. But let's lay hands on all

  414. these dads and let's, uh.

  415. As kids, you gonna follow me back here?

  416. All right, man.

  417. I'm gonna do this too.

  418. Let's just take a minute and we're

  419. gonna pray over all the dads who are

  420. here today and ask God to bless and to

  421. continue to use them to be impactful

  422. in the family, uh, of God, and also

  423. the nuclear family that they're in.

  424. Happy Father's Day dad, just since

  425. I didn't get to say that yet.

  426. Okay.

  427. Hey, and do me a favor.

  428. If you look around and there's some

  429. people who don't have a son or a

  430. daughter, don't forget who you are.

  431. Church, your sons, daughters,

  432. brothers and sisters in Christ.

  433. Would you make sure and put a hand

  434. on those people beside you and

  435. let's lift them up before the Lord

  436. as part of this big family where we

  437. all are loved and get to love one

  438. another in some pretty cool ways.

  439. Let's pray.

  440. Father, thank you for our dads.

  441. Lord, thank you for their sacrifice,

  442. for their love, for the pressure

  443. and the weight that they carry,

  444. for the responsibility before

  445. you that they carry to lead.

  446. God is a super heavy thing.

  447. And Lord, I pray that you would

  448. encourage the heart of every dad

  449. here today specifically about the

  450. times they fall short, the times

  451. they miss moments or lose their cool.

  452. And Lord, there's plenty of fallen

  453. and brokenness in all of us.

  454. And even though we strive, Lord, I

  455. pray that you would forgive us for

  456. the moments that we fall short and

  457. that you would restore hope and joy

  458. and life in those relationships we

  459. have with our sons and daughters.

  460. And God, I pray that you.

  461. Would encourage and strengthen the resolve

  462. and the drive within every one of these

  463. men to lead their families, to lead your

  464. people, even, to lead themselves Lord,

  465. in faithful obedience to you, I pray

  466. you, Lord, that you would impact the

  467. whole world around them through their

  468. love for others, that you would help them

  469. be connected to your love in a way that

  470. would empower them and mobilize them to

  471. reach even further than they are and love

  472. even more than they are, and that as they

  473. stretch to do that, that they would find

  474. a never ending supply to be able to love.

  475. Well, father, I pray that you

  476. would bless these dads, that you

  477. would meet their needs financially,

  478. that you would pour out provision.

  479. Lord, I pray for their physical needs,

  480. Lord, that you would touch their

  481. bodies, restore health and protect them.

  482. God, I pray for all the emotional needs

  483. that the Dads are carrying in this

  484. room, that you would heal and strengthen

  485. and restore hope deep inside of them.

  486. God, I pray that you would bless

  487. their interactions with their family

  488. and with the people around them.

  489. And God, I pray that this Father's Day

  490. would just be a special day where more

  491. than even all of those things that they're

  492. reminded of their heavenly Father of

  493. his call to action as a dad, but also

  494. of his love for each of these dads as

  495. the sons that they are in his family.

  496. And God, I pray that that love would

  497. just be ripple effects through our

  498. whole church and through our whole

  499. community that the love of God through

  500. these dads would change all eternity.

  501. Thank you for my dad.

  502. Thanks for the honor

  503. of getting to be a dad.

  504. Thank you for the legacy that we get

  505. to walk in together as your children.

  506. And I pray that you had blessed today

  507. in a special way, and remind us just how

  508. much we matter to you and to each other.

  509. And Happy Father's Day, heavenly

  510. Father and Jesus name we pray.

  511. Amen.

  512. Amen.

  513. Yeah.

  514. All right.

  515. Think you guys are dismissed to

  516. go grill something somewhere.

  517. Have a wonderful Father's Day.
