  1. That was great.

  2. Well done everybody.

  3. That's fantastic.

  4. Wow, what a retreat.

  5. I'm gonna take a moment to, uh,

  6. retreat or run to my, my heavenly

  7. Father and pray real quick.

  8. So if you guys would pray with

  9. me, that would be wonderful.

  10. Lord, God in heaven,

  11. creator of the universe.

  12. Thank you.

  13. Thank you that you love us so, so

  14. much that I can't even fathom it.

  15. I think I know love 'cause I

  16. have a daughter, a son, and I

  17. think I know love because I have

  18. a wife who is extraordinary.

  19. But it still falls so

  20. short of your love for us.

  21. Thank you God for that incredible love.

  22. Please guide my me and my wife's words

  23. and these youth as we share what you

  24. poured into us over this last week.

  25. Amen.

  26. Well, what I'm gonna go through

  27. now is just a, the rapid fire.

  28. What did we talk about?

  29. Because I want you guys to know,

  30. and so I'm gonna go through the, the

  31. quick and and dirty version of this.

  32. 'cause it matters that you guys can

  33. kinda see what we went through and

  34. how things developed to the point

  35. of, well the finale that I think was.

  36. Pretty extraordinary.

  37. So what we talked about was walking

  38. the walk, not talking the talk, but

  39. walking the walk and to walk like Jesus.

  40. There's some pieces that we have to

  41. have sorted out within our own lives.

  42. So we talked through some of that, but

  43. we had to start that first day with

  44. maybe some, uh, tangible skills that

  45. would help us stay connected to the vine.

  46. So the very first skill we went

  47. over was press the press method,

  48. which is a simple way of doing

  49. devotionals, spending time with God.

  50. It's just an acronym.

  51. And as we go through this, we get to talk

  52. about how before we get into scripture,

  53. we pray, we talk to the Lord, right?

  54. First thing, turn to him and say, help

  55. us understand more, help us realize

  56. more and help us retain it so that

  57. we can do what you call us to do.

  58. After that, you gotta read the scripture.

  59. Right now.

  60. What we did, we just chose to start

  61. in James, and every day we'd read a

  62. chapter of James, the entire chapter.

  63. We discussed that sometimes, uh,

  64. specifically within the press method.

  65. You're actually not con, um,

  66. locked down to a chapter.

  67. It's until you have an aha,

  68. which could happen every single

  69. verse where you have an aha.

  70. And that's okay.

  71. But we chose to do a chapter.

  72. After you read it, you examine it, think

  73. about it, ponder on it, consider what

  74. the Lord is saying through the scripture.

  75. After that, you summarize it, get

  76. out a pen, find you some paper, and

  77. get to writing all your thoughts.

  78. Make notes, an outline, whatever's

  79. needed, and then write what you,

  80. uh, pulled from this scripture.

  81. And the last thing we talked

  82. about is that scripture.

  83. It's not just for us.

  84. It is for us to share.

  85. And so we must, after we read

  86. scripture, we do all this summarizing,

  87. writing it down and we examine the

  88. word that that's not just for us.

  89. We need that so we can share it to others.

  90. So we talk to a parent, talk to a peer, if

  91. you have questions about it, find someone

  92. that you find, uh, a good leader for you.

  93. And you can talk through some of

  94. those concepts with, so we share.

  95. There's different dynamics there.

  96. After that, I'll do this one too.

  97. Sorry, I was thinking it was you.

  98. We went into memorization.

  99. Alright.

  100. Using this sword is a

  101. very much a value to us.

  102. Be able to take scripture, lock it down in

  103. our hearts, and then be able to use that.

  104. And so we're gonna have all

  105. the youth come up here and show

  106. their scripture that they meant.

  107. Yeah.

  108. Oh dude, this is you, you're about to

  109. team.

  110. Eric was the one I really,

  111. really wanted to show the most.

  112. But maybe we'll hold that for sharing.

  113. If you wanna show people you,

  114. the way you learn scripture.

  115. But the way Audrey taught

  116. us, she went through this.

  117. See it, say it, do it.

  118. Okay.

  119. We can read the scripture and

  120. after that you write it down.

  121. You can type a draw it and you

  122. can see these different ways of

  123. kinda locking it into your brain.

  124. Then after that, you gotta vocalize it.

  125. Some people vocalize it differently.

  126. If you're van, you only vocalize

  127. it in the most epic Jamaican

  128. accent anyone has ever heard.

  129. Boy, boy.

  130. You can say it with accents.

  131. You can say it in funny ways

  132. because it is fun to learn

  133. scripture that way and it works.

  134. So we got some skills on that

  135. front and then you do it.

  136. Some people had, we didn't have any

  137. dancers, but we had a lot of hand

  138. motions that really locked it in.

  139. Whether they're using sign

  140. language to help lock it down.

  141. Right?

  142. That was clever.

  143. I like that one.

  144. Or just gestures.

  145. That make sense?

  146. Or just let Eric wrap the whole thing

  147. while you guys snap your fingers.

  148. Some people do that too.

  149. The next thing we we dove into is talking

  150. about, okay, we have these skills.

  151. Alright, we're staying connected

  152. to the vine with these skills.

  153. That's important.

  154. But when you think of Jesus,

  155. what actions do you think of?

  156. Right?

  157. This man of action, walking the walk.

  158. He didn't just do a

  159. whole bunch of talking.

  160. He did do some talking.

  161. That's teaching.

  162. I'd say that's an action.

  163. So we will, we'll slide that

  164. one into the action category.

  165. But he didn't just show up

  166. on Sundays and check a box.

  167. The man went out and he

  168. shared and he did things

  169. he washed.

  170. This one I love the most.

  171. I should have put it at the

  172. bottom for a punctuation.

  173. He washed his disciples feet.

  174. I love that one the most.

  175. You washed them.

  176. We talk about a servant mentality

  177. washing feet, and we today usually have

  178. some shoes and socks keep us clean.

  179. Back then I have a feeling they had

  180. a lot of Andes sandals on, and boy,

  181. they were collecting all the dirt.

  182. What a filthy job.

  183. King of King, just like Josiah said, Lord

  184. of Lords washed the feet of his disciples.

  185. He healed the sick, he fed the

  186. 5,000, healed a leper, and so, so,

  187. so many more actions did he commit?

  188. But among you, it will be different.

  189. Whoever wants to be a leader among

  190. you must be a servant boy exemplified

  191. that and whoever wants to be first

  192. among you must become your slave.

  193. Whoa, for even the son of man came not

  194. to be served, but to serve others and

  195. to give his life as ransom for many.

  196. What a servant leader.

  197. Then we had an opportunity to

  198. watch a, a video from an atheist.

  199. Real inspiring stuff.

  200. It really was.

  201. If you haven't seen this

  202. video, I will send it to you.

  203. It's worth considering what this man

  204. says, pen, this incredible, um, magician

  205. who's been in front of tens of thousands.

  206. He's performed in front of presidents.

  207. He's quick with his words, very clever

  208. in his mind, fast with his hands.

  209. He's a talented guy.

  210. And when you watch this film of him

  211. recalling a Christian man who just

  212. approached him after a show and was

  213. genuine, loving, and presented him a

  214. bible with a phone number in it in case

  215. he ever wanted to talk, it moved him.

  216. He stutters.

  217. He STAs, he gets lost in thought in

  218. the video and he's just perplexed at

  219. the end of it, he gives an example of

  220. these Christians can't, can't stand a

  221. Christian who isn't acting on that faith.

  222. He describes a scene of the child in

  223. the street or someone in the street

  224. and a truck is barreling down on him.

  225. And maybe you call at first

  226. like, Hey, hey truck, move it.

  227. And you're yelling, Hey, get out the way.

  228. And at some point in time you

  229. tackle the person to save him.

  230. And he goes, it's a little call to ashes.

  231. He's like, Christians, what are you doing?

  232. If you believe what you do?

  233. He literally says, this is so

  234. much more important eternity.

  235. And he quicks to mention,

  236. 'cause he is an atheist.

  237. He's like, I don't believe in that.

  238. But if you believe there's an eternity of

  239. heaven and hell, isn't that the response?

  240. Powerful moment there.

  241. Next day we got to talk

  242. about, okay, let's, let's

  243. talk about these fruit, right?

  244. What do we actually produce?

  245. Now these are some acts of the flesh

  246. that we don't want to produce, but I

  247. wanna make it clear what we can produce.

  248. So this is some of the

  249. negatives we went through.

  250. But then we went to the fruit of

  251. the spirit and we talked through

  252. the fruit of the spirit in some

  253. detail, realizing that every last

  254. one of these fruit is actionable.

  255. Now some of them can be

  256. for yourself, for sure.

  257. Got it.

  258. But every last one of them can

  259. be focused outwards to others.

  260. Reaching, loving, having

  261. patience with others.

  262. It's all outward focused and

  263. we got to talk through that.

  264. Remain in me as I also remain in you.

  265. No branch can bear fruit by itself.

  266. It must remain in the vine.

  267. Neither can you bear fruit

  268. unless you remain in me.

  269. I am the vine.

  270. You are the branches.

  271. If you remain in me and I in

  272. you, you'll bear much fruit.

  273. I. The last part, keep your eyes open.

  274. Apart from me, you can do nothing.

  275. And that's why we remain in scripture.

  276. We devote some of our time

  277. every single day to the word.

  278. We try to train ourselves up and lock

  279. it down so we can bear good fruit.

  280. Now my wife has

  281. far mower poetic and thoughtful, uh, class

  282. that she taught and she just put a real

  283. ringer out there for everybody on the

  284. very first thing to get our attention.

  285. And it's just, it'll

  286. bring a tear to your eye.

  287. So how does a whale die?

  288. The youth know, 'cause we talked

  289. about it last night and it's

  290. an important lesson for us.

  291. Whales actually drown.

  292. They live in the ocean, but

  293. they're not of the ocean.

  294. They don't have the ability to

  295. breathe and the water in the

  296. environment where they live.

  297. So in order to survive, they

  298. have to go up to the surface

  299. to get a big old breath of air.

  300. We as Christians are just like whales.

  301. We live in this world.

  302. We are not called to be of this world.

  303. In order to survive and make it to

  304. heaven and spend eternity with Jesus,

  305. we have to continually go up to get

  306. that big old breath of air from him.

  307. Because if we don't, all that's waiting

  308. for us in this world of spiritual death.

  309. So we talked about that.

  310. It was an important lesson, how we are

  311. in this world, but we're not of it.

  312. And it led us to some other

  313. conversation about what team are we on?

  314. It's impossible to play on both sides.

  315. Um, of a game.

  316. Take football for instance.

  317. You can't play both offense

  318. and defense at the same time.

  319. Be effective.

  320. You just can't.

  321. So we have to make a decision.

  322. We talked about are we shining our light?

  323. Are we hiding it?

  324. Are we living out loud for Jesus?

  325. We claim to be on Jesus's team.

  326. We claim to be of God

  327. and not of this world.

  328. Are we living that out?

  329. Are we being the same person

  330. no matter where we go?

  331. Or are we acting one way at church on

  332. Sunday morning and we go and acting

  333. like something else everywhere else?

  334. It's important.

  335. And the teen spent a lot

  336. of time reflecting on this

  337. during this, this message.

  338. And we gave them a lot of time

  339. to think and pray and make notes.

  340. And um, it's a humbling realization

  341. and it's a, a heavy thing to think

  342. through, but it's an important

  343. one that we have to talk about.

  344. Um, 'cause you can't serve two masters.

  345. It's impossible.

  346. And our thoughts, our words, our actions

  347. are, tell us who we are really serving.

  348. Do your words, thoughts and actions.

  349. Show the people around you that

  350. you're serving God or do they show

  351. that you're of this world and you're

  352. serving the world in your flesh.

  353. Um,

  354. it's an important thing, not just

  355. for the teens to think through,

  356. but for all of us to think through.

  357. Wonderful.

  358. Well said.

  359. So now we're gonna take some time

  360. for the youth to wander back up here

  361. like you were when you were singing.

  362. Come on up.

  363. Alright.

  364. Van is gonna sing a song

  365. in, uh, j Make an accent.

  366. So he's gonna start us off.

  367. I'll, I'll do that at the end.

  368. Alright.

  369. So we, uh, we did, we cheated.

  370. We gave 'em, gave 'em the questions

  371. so they could, you know, check

  372. their notes and their, and

  373. their books for all the answers.

  374. But I did prompt 'em with a one

  375. question, what was your favorite part?

  376. This could be whether it's food

  377. games, a sermon, seeing my face

  378. every morning, whatever it was.

  379. Uh, do any of you guys have a favorite

  380. thing you'd like to share with the group?

  381. Oh, alright.

  382. We'll start and he'll, he'll

  383. pass it on down as you guys go.

  384. Alright.

  385. Uh, pickleball and worship And the pool.

  386. And a pool.

  387. Okay.

  388. Uh, I mean there was a lot, uh, probably

  389. Josh trying to yell at us through his CPAP

  390. machine at like 3:00 AM It was so funny.

  391. Just could not understand.

  392. We're just, oh man.

  393. It was incredible.

  394. Hi.

  395. Um, small groups.

  396. Yeah.

  397. All right.

  398. Here we go.

  399. Probably play nine square with everyone.

  400. Yeah.

  401. Yeah.

  402. I really love small groups.

  403. They're really good.

  404. Um, I had a lot of favorite moments, but

  405. one of them was, we, um, made the slide.

  406. For those of you that don't know, there is

  407. a tube slide, um, that it's pretty steep.

  408. Um, but it, you don't really go

  409. fast until you mix it with water.

  410. Then if you decide that you're

  411. skinny like me and you want to cross

  412. your legs and like you would at a

  413. waterpark, you're gonna go really fast.

  414. I almost became a skipping stone.

  415. Okay.

  416. So wherever Josiah is at.

  417. Alright.

  418. Josiah, I really loved our small group

  419. time and then af and then afterwards

  420. me and him would always stick around

  421. for a little bit longer and go out and

  422. just keep talking over about the subject

  423. and just trail off and I loved it.

  424. So thank you a lot.

  425. Um, I really liked the devotional

  426. time in the morning and the bonfire.

  427. Um, I really liked the group activities

  428. that we did all together 'cause it

  429. was fun to hang out with everyone.

  430. Also the small groups because

  431. Team Aley was the best.

  432. Yes.

  433. And please ask Van and Evan about

  434. their Jamaican and girl accents.

  435. Yeah.

  436. Don't ask, please.

  437. No, no.

  438. You gotta answer in your Jamaican accent.

  439. No, do that.

  440. No, I'm not doing that.

  441. No.

  442. But Mark's burgers were the best.

  443. Um, my favorite part was probably

  444. the pool and then small groups.

  445. I really like the

  446. worshiping every morning.

  447. Wait, wait, wait.

  448. We gonna add something?

  449. Can we add one?

  450. Finn Finn on Drugs.

  451. Drugs.

  452. It took two Bena.

  453. Yes.

  454. It was so funny.

  455. Oh my gosh.

  456. You should ask Sarah to like,

  457. see videos of him and stuff.

  458. It was so funny.

  459. Thanks.

  460. Alright.

  461. Alright.

  462. Well, uh, we'll take that as

  463. my, uh, resignation from this.

  464. I know.

  465. Andy, I'm out.

  466. We're we're drugging kids at this point.

  467. Wow.

  468. What a. What a disaster.

  469. Thanks for sharing that.

  470. That was supposed to stay

  471. at camp, but anyways.

  472. Oh, oh do.

  473. I did want to clarify with when James was

  474. talking about a skipping stone, we put

  475. two pools because there was two years ago,

  476. the kids were slamming into the ground,

  477. scarred up, beat up, was tearing 'em up.

  478. I'll bring some kitty pools.

  479. That'll be good.

  480. Fill 'em with water.

  481. Nah, they're coming down so fast.

  482. They hit the first one,

  483. shoot to the second one.

  484. Then I put two tires behind it

  485. to maybe hold that back wall.

  486. No.

  487. Then they just slam into that

  488. and topple over and I'm like, all

  489. right, now we're breaking bones.

  490. Let's go.

  491. It was fun.

  492. Also, the year before we.

  493. Soap as well.

  494. Soap.

  495. If you didn't hear, oh, we

  496. didn't use soap this time.

  497. No soap.

  498. No soap.

  499. Too fast.

  500. You guys were doing such a great job.

  501. I figured.

  502. Leave soap outta the equation.

  503. But you guys are doing

  504. an amazing job speaking.

  505. Thank you.

  506. But now I'm more interested in

  507. what was most impactful, right?

  508. Whether it was in a devotional

  509. reading through James, a scripture

  510. that stuck out to you, a concept

  511. discussed within your small groups.

  512. If you have something to share, I'd

  513. love to hear what God may have moved.

  514. And you guys' hearts 'cause

  515. it's crazy important to share.

  516. And we know it

  517. while they're thinking.

  518. While they're thinking, whoa.

  519. Um, Elizabeth couldn't be here today.

  520. She's on a family vacation.

  521. But she sent me, uh, a text reflecting on

  522. her time and she wanted me to share it so.

  523. This is from Elizabeth.

  524. Um, most of you probably

  525. hasn't, haven't met her.

  526. She's a good friend of Gabby's that

  527. Gabby's been bringing a small group or

  528. to youth group for a couple months now.

  529. Um, so she said the best part of

  530. treat was the food, obviously, but

  531. in all honesty, it was the people.

  532. I got close with everyone and

  533. I felt seen and heard by them.

  534. Everyone is family and that feels

  535. different when you didn't grow up with it.

  536. The trip impacted me by having things

  537. happen, but still being with each other

  538. in the end and caring for one another.

  539. I've prayed for years to find

  540. people that have a stronger feeling

  541. than just they make me happy

  542. and I finally met those people.

  543. This group is like a breath of fresh air

  544. when you get drowned in the pool by them.

  545. Gabby's my best friend and she

  546. introduced me to her family, who is now

  547. my family, and I'm forever grateful.

  548. I cannot thank God enough for Audrey,

  549. Josh, Gabby, Finn, Laney, Eric,

  550. Sarah, Josiah, Jed, Lucy, Gabriel,

  551. Elijah, James Van Wake, Evan, Maria,

  552. Elliot, mark, Jonathan, Eli Malena.

  553. Malia, Brian, Corey, and Lily.

  554. This youth group is so inviting,

  555. loving, supportive, and over

  556. all the best people I know.

  557. To be able to love them and be

  558. loved by them is the greatest gift.

  559. If you're praying for something

  560. like I was, God hears you.

  561. He may just take some time

  562. and you have to trust him.

  563. Um, so I believe it was

  564. the day before we left.

  565. We were all together.

  566. People were sharing their messages,

  567. and then we ended it on um, I believe

  568. Reckless Love, and we did a few

  569. other impactful songs before that.

  570. And the room was so heavy with

  571. spiritual power, it was so intense.

  572. I think most of us broke down in tears.

  573. We all prayed together.

  574. It was really impactful.

  575. So I've always been very

  576. hesitant to share the word.

  577. I love to do it, but I

  578. just don't always know how.

  579. And, um, there was a certain individual

  580. at Youth Retreat, um, I'm not gonna say

  581. names, but they did not know Christ very

  582. well and they were eager to know more.

  583. And Josiah and I, um, and other

  584. people as well, but mainly us too.

  585. We got to share a lot of knowledge

  586. with this individual and it was life

  587. changing for me as well as for them.

  588. And I'm glad I got to be a part of that.

  589. This is the, uh, most

  590. impactful part, right?

  591. Yes.

  592. Yeah.

  593. Okay.

  594. Uh,

  595. you microphone a little bit closer.

  596. I, I may, yeah, it's true.

  597. Sorry.

  598. Yeah.

  599. All right.

  600. The most impactful part for me

  601. was, um, the last night of worship.

  602. Uh, there were a couple people who,

  603. uh, broke down in tears that I did

  604. not expect to see, uh, do that.

  605. And I got to go and pray for them.

  606. And honestly, that just made

  607. my whole, uh, my whole retreat.

  608. So that was pretty great.

  609. Also, the, the verse James

  610. two 17, I think that's.

  611. Yep.

  612. Um, faith Without Works is dead.

  613. That was convicting.

  614. 'cause I've been a Christian for a

  615. long time and I still struggled to

  616. go out and tell anyone about Jesus.

  617. So I was convicting.

  618. Yeah.

  619. Um, it was the last line of worship

  620. and Finnegan came up and gave

  621. me a hug and it meant a lot to

  622. me 'cause he never hugs me, so.

  623. Hi.

  624. Um,

  625. so I'm so awkward.

  626. I'm sorry.

  627. Uh, so the most impactful thing

  628. was probably, uh, the worship,

  629. you know, it was really good,

  630. especially Josiah's singing.

  631. It's beautiful.

  632. I love you Josiah, Messiah.

  633. And, uh.

  634. What day was it when you said we

  635. could use the couch as an altar?

  636. That's the last day.

  637. Last day.

  638. Okay.

  639. So that day we started doing

  640. worship and, uh, you know, oh, that

  641. was before the drugs kicked in.

  642. Okay.

  643. So that,

  644. anyways, um, that's,

  645. that was, that was crazy.

  646. I just remember the music starts

  647. playing in the first song.

  648. I'm like, okay, it's fine.

  649. Music, second song.

  650. I'm like, okay.

  651. Little something.

  652. Third song.

  653. I'm like, okay, this is bad.

  654. I'm crying now.

  655. And then I just, like, I come over

  656. there with the guys and we're all like,

  657. singing and crying, especially awake.

  658. But, um, anyways, uh.

  659. I just felt something like compelled

  660. me to go up to the altar, you know?

  661. And obviously it was him, but yeah.

  662. Um, and I just remember I'm just

  663. sitting there crying my eyes out,

  664. like my whole body's like shaking.

  665. And I have just Josh come over

  666. there and he is just praying over

  667. me and talking to me, and it's

  668. like, yeah, he was talking to me.

  669. I heard what you said.

  670. I'm not ignoring you.

  671. But I was listening more

  672. to God at that moment.

  673. Like it was insane.

  674. Like the presence, I could

  675. just feel him right there.

  676. And, uh, yeah.

  677. And then I, yeah.

  678. All right.

  679. Well, um, I didn't really have like a

  680. breakdown moment during the worship time,

  681. like a lot of my friends did, but, um.

  682. But I think it was a really important

  683. retreat for me because the worship

  684. in small groups were definitely

  685. like the most impactful things.

  686. But I mean, I went to my other

  687. camp this year and had my breakdown

  688. moment there and all that.

  689. But like it was an important retreat

  690. because it reminded me of like, I feel

  691. like I've been really good with God, but

  692. like you can always go a step further.

  693. That's the nice thing about foreign Christ

  694. is you can never follow him too much.

  695. You can never come too close to him.

  696. There's always a deeper

  697. depth you can reach with him.

  698. And I think that was just important to

  699. like, there's still habits and stuff

  700. that I've held onto after my camp there.

  701. I've been like, oh, I'm not serving

  702. another master, or I am fully locked

  703. on God, but I'm really not like I am.

  704. But like there's still

  705. things I need to let go of.

  706. And that was important for me

  707. to have that retreat to kind

  708. of see that and think about it.

  709. And yeah, it's, the picture I use is like.

  710. If you don't lay, lay it down at the

  711. cross, God can't help you carry it.

  712. That was good.

  713. Um, the most impactful was probably

  714. the talks I had with leaders, which was

  715. I had a lot of really good talks with

  716. like, past stuff and like future stuff.

  717. It was really good.

  718. And then the last night, whole lot

  719. of crying, but it was really good.

  720. But yeah.

  721. Yes,

  722. the most impactful thing was the last

  723. night of worship, because I've always

  724. had a heart and heart, but it felt like

  725. that last night the Holy Spirit broke

  726. through those walls and touched my

  727. heart and just let him into my heart.

  728. So.

  729. Um, probably just worship and devotions.

  730. Like I felt really close

  731. with God when I did those.

  732. And yeah.

  733. Thank you.

  734. Uh, probably worship too.

  735. The live worship is just amazing.

  736. You get really close to God.

  737. It is way better than on the screen.

  738. Thank you, Josiah.

  739. Thank you.

  740. You're good.

  741. Um, I'd say most impactful, I have sort

  742. of two, but it was whenever Josh and

  743. Audrey were like teaching us, I was

  744. sitting on the couch with all my friends

  745. and we were writing in our, like, books

  746. that they gave us and just watching

  747. everyone be very, um, attentive to them.

  748. To what was happening and

  749. taking notes and everything.

  750. I really loved watching people grow

  751. while they were like experiencing it.

  752. My second one was definitely, um, the last

  753. night because when we were worshiping,

  754. all I could think about was this was my

  755. found family and I'm gonna miss them.

  756. I'm not gonna be in youth group

  757. anymore, and I love them so much.

  758. Bad.

  759. Okay.

  760. I'm claustrophobic, bro.

  761. Okay, bro.

  762. What did you do to me?

  763. You got this Gabby.

  764. Okay.

  765. Anyway.

  766. Oh, thank you Dax.

  767. I saw that.

  768. Oh, what is going on?

  769. Okay.

  770. Thank you.

  771. Thank you.

  772. Bless.

  773. Um, I just think that the, like really

  774. just seeing everyone be able to like

  775. really experience God for themselves

  776. and like get to see everyone's growth.

  777. It's really powerful.

  778. Can I share mine?

  779. Um, I think there were three

  780. different analogies we used

  781. over the course of the week.

  782. It was a lot of fun for me

  783. to just watch the light bulb

  784. come on for a lot of the kids.

  785. Uh, the whale obviously was a big one.

  786. Um, but in our small group

  787. we had a couple others.

  788. Um, so the one when we were talking

  789. about how, whether we're two

  790. different people or not, um, do

  791. you boys remember my demonstration?

  792. Of whether, how we, how important

  793. it is that we, when we choose the

  794. people we spend time with you.

  795. Remember?

  796. You wanna do it real quick?

  797. I'll talk through it.

  798. You just do it.

  799. Why don't you stand on the chair.

  800. Come on

  801. Evan.

  802. Go stand on the chair.

  803. So we were talking about how important

  804. it is the people we choose to

  805. spend time with and how much of an

  806. impact they can have on our life.

  807. And I told Evan to stand on

  808. the couch and I said, Evan,

  809. try to pull van up next to you.

  810. It's hard.

  811. It's really hard to

  812. pull him up next to you.

  813. Now van, pull Evan down.

  814. See how easy that was?

  815. And we talked about how easy this, our

  816. friends can have that influence on us.

  817. And all the whole S small group was

  818. like, oh, that makes so much sense.

  819. So that was really fun.

  820. Then my other one was an

  821. analogy that Evan came up with.

  822. It's all right, you don't need it.

  823. Oh, okay.

  824. Well Evan did so good talking.

  825. Uh, join me.

  826. Would you Evan, come here man.

  827. So he had this, oh, look at that.

  828. Asking You shall receive.

  829. He had a marker.

  830. I wasn't there for the original,

  831. but he blessed me by, by showing

  832. me some interesting concepts.

  833. And tell you the truth, bud.

  834. I don't know how much I can help

  835. you 'cause I don't remember it,

  836. so I'm gonna need your help here.

  837. So what was your analogy?

  838. So think of your life like as a

  839. pen, how you're like the bottom

  840. piece of the pen and god's the top

  841. piece of the pen protecting you.

  842. And if you lose God and

  843. like God, you lost God.

  844. He did that on purpose.

  845. So clever.

  846. Um, your ink, like you'll eventually

  847. dry out and, but when you have your

  848. ink, you can leave your mark on people.

  849. And leave your mark on earth.

  850. But when you dry out you can't do that.

  851. But a way to get back your ink and

  852. be back with God is like worship

  853. or repent or just get baptized.

  854. Well done.

  855. What's up bud?

  856. Now I know.

  857. Uh oh.

  858. Marty's not here today, is he?

  859. No, not here today.

  860. I was gonna rely on him for the timing

  861. of this, so I think he's a good until

  862. three, 4:00 PM So then we can just

  863. stay here and keep chatting 'cause

  864. there's so many neat stories we have.

  865. And so at this moment, I don't know

  866. if any of the leaders, if there is

  867. something you would like to share, now's

  868. your chance and I'll share something

  869. myself while you guys consider it and

  870. feel to walk up here if you need to.

  871. But I just wanted to share.

  872. I'm just not sharing.

  873. I just wanted to tell you guys, me and

  874. my wife's first year leading this thing.

  875. And maybe it's just all I wanna say

  876. is we love you and we're proud of

  877. you because every last one of you

  878. is so, so very important to us.

  879. And that's why we cry so

  880. much in these moments.

  881. We love you.

  882. No matter where you go, whether you

  883. age into that next section, it's not

  884. that you're gone because this is just

  885. youth group, but this is our church.

  886. So you won't leave that.

  887. Relationships will stay.

  888. Memories are solid.

  889. You're gonna be all right.

  890. But the last thing that we put on these,

  891. although you wanted it, you need this.

  892. Oh, it was like an o shucks.

  893. The, um, I was very reminiscent through

  894. this, uh, church camp and, um, I'm

  895. very saddened to see, um, you know,

  896. certain or to see that the, uh, seniors

  897. leave, um, like I guess every year

  898. and then, um, but I'm very excited to

  899. see what God has in future for them.

  900. I've had a chance to talk to, um,

  901. several of the seniors about the

  902. next step and what they can do

  903. and what God may have for them.

  904. 'cause what's exciting is I was awesome

  905. as high school was, uh, youth group

  906. for me, college was even better.

  907. And I think what many of you have

  908. done in terms of your college age,

  909. young adult here has been amazing.

  910. And I continue to, uh, I

  911. would encourage you guys to

  912. continue that and to grow that.

  913. Uh, I will say that, um.

  914. Uh, for most of these kids here, um,

  915. I remember them as being kids, little

  916. kids, and, uh, teaching them in Sunday

  917. school and in VBS and how proud I

  918. am of what all of you guys, how you

  919. have matured and grown in Christ.

  920. Uh, you guys have been

  921. awesome and continue it on.

  922. Um, as a church, I want to encourage

  923. you guys that these guys have matured

  924. dramatically through the years.

  925. Sometimes it's hard to see it when you

  926. see 'em every week or live with them,

  927. and, but when you get a chance to get

  928. away every year or every other year,

  929. to see the growth in them is so amazing

  930. and you guys are doing such a good job.

  931. Um, and I will say that the way

  932. that you get a chance to participate

  933. and to grow in this is in twofold.

  934. One.

  935. You can continue to encourage them

  936. and as they're going through life

  937. events, our small group was awesome

  938. and they're dealing with the same

  939. type of things that you know we are.

  940. So as you're older and more mature and

  941. the faith continue to provide wisdom and

  942. guidance and an example of how to live

  943. out the Christ Christian life, the other

  944. is a practical opportunity for y'all,

  945. is in participating in things like VBS.

  946. So this is a shameless plug to go

  947. ahead and sign up and do that so that

  948. you too get to be blessed like I was

  949. this week by being able to work with

  950. them and to work with the youth and

  951. watch them grow up through the years.

  952. So I love you guys.

  953. You guys are awesome.

  954. You did great this week.

  955. So.

  956. Uh, going there and cooking for you guys.

  957. I know you guys always enjoy the

  958. cheeseburgers and some of the

  959. other food that we make, and, um,

  960. we put a lot of effort into that.

  961. And I just wanna know that you guys

  962. really, I, I went there to serve and,

  963. and try to bless you guys by giving

  964. you good meals and, um, all this, but,

  965. but you guys, you guys blessed me.

  966. Um, you, you guys are just so awesome

  967. and, you know, uh, and sorry I'm starting

  968. to cry, but, um, the way you guys just

  969. kinda cheer for the silly songs and,

  970. you know, those are for little kids.

  971. You guys are big kids, but you guys

  972. still love those songs and, and,

  973. um, you, uh, yeah, I'm, I'm okay.

  974. I don't need that.

  975. Thank you though.

  976. And, you know, bringing up the

  977. cheeseburgers here and everything,

  978. um, you guys just really touched

  979. my heart and really blessed me and

  980. I think you blessed my wife too.

  981. Right here.

  982. And I just really appreciate you guys and

  983. your enthusiasm just as, as contagious.

  984. And, and that was amazing.

  985. And I also just wanted, um, to mention

  986. the burkharts who helped in the kitchen.

  987. Um,

  988. and Maria and Maria.

  989. Um, feeding these guys is a huge ordeal.

  990. Uh, Corey, I overheard her say, I

  991. had no idea what I was getting myself

  992. into when I volunteered for this.

  993. Um, they eat a lot of food and, uh,

  994. we wanted them to have healthy food.

  995. And so it wasn't just cheap fast things.

  996. It was elaborate meals

  997. that we were serving.

  998. Veggies, protein, things that they

  999. could digest and not get sick on.

  1000. And, and it's a big deal.

1001. And so thank you so much Brian and

1002. Corey for helping in the kitchen.

1003. We couldn't have done it without you.

1004. And thank you Maria for, for being

1005. there by my side the whole day as well.

  1006. Thanks guys.

  1007. Not doing the stairs.

  1008. So

1009. growing up I was always on the outside.

1010. We moved a lot and I felt like I

1011. was excluded from a lot of things.

1012. So one of the things I observed from not

1013. just this year, it was very impactful this

1014. year, but every year I've participated

1015. with the youth group, I've seen not

1016. one person be left on the outside.

1017. These kids, young adults are intentional

1018. about making sure everyone is included.

  1019. Everyone is loved.

1020. Whether it was their first time coming to

1021. a youth event, they're like, come on you.

1022. You need to do this.

1023. It's we want you to join us.

1024. And I love that about your hearts.

1025. Every one of you has touched me

1026. and reminded me that you're strong

1027. and you're amazing and you love.

1028. You love like Christ, and I'm very

1029. blessed to experience that for you.

  1030. Thank you.

  1031. Woohoo.

1032. I guess I did get sharing time and

1033. now too, but uh, for me, everybody's

1034. already said how much the youth have

1035. blessed them and I am no different.

1036. Even though they kept me up far later

1037. than I wish they would've, uh, wake

1038. said something about talking to leaders.

1039. I just know that he came in and

1040. found me in the bathroom while I

1041. was trying to get outta the shower

1042. and we talked till like 4:00 AM.

1043. Um, I was an exhausting next day, but

1044. like, so all that aside, and here's,

1045. that's like the most important part

1046. is how much they've blessed us.

1047. But I also just wanna say that like,

1048. God also blessed me on this retreat

1049. in the sense of just getting to watch

1050. how he worked throughout all of it.

1051. As much as we're here to

1052. pour out for you guys.

1053. I wanna encourage you that if you feel

1054. called to work with these youth to go

1055. on on a retreat, like the Burkharts

1056. did whatever, it looks like God.

1057. God doesn't do anything in vain.

1058. He doesn't push you to go do

1059. something and he's not gonna

1060. give you something out of it.

1061. It might not be financial,

1062. it might even be physical.

1063. It might just be a spiritual

  1064. blessing that you receive.

1065. And for me, I can't even really share

1066. all of it, but like as much as I wanna

1067. act like Josh and I were perfect on

1068. communication prior to this retreat

1069. and we had everything planned out,

1070. there was very little communication.

  1071. Both ways, both ways.

  1072. Um, I honestly didn't know what

1073. we were doing most of the time.

1074. Some of the songs didn't

1075. even get finalized until like

1076. the day of before we left.

1077. It was just, there were some things that

1078. just went back and forth, but the amount

1079. of times that something got brought up

1080. in our small group or just on one-on-one

1081. conversations, and then Josh talked

1082. about it the next day and I had no clue

1083. that was coming, or even the same day.

1084. Or just, there were so many moments

1085. where God brought two things together

1086. that I had no idea were coming,

1087. and then they were able to be

  1088. reinforced by later conversations.

1089. Like God had messages for specific

1090. people and he wanted them to hear it.

1091. And it was just really cool

1092. to see how that worked.

1093. And then I will say there were even

1094. things that, like at the beginning

1095. of the retreat when I first heard

1096. him, I was like, what are you doing?

  1097. What?

1098. Why are we doing this?

1099. I mean, I will say, saying curfew was

  1100. 2:00 AM That one I think might've been

1101. the one issue that I would've actually

1102. still continued to be like maybe.

1103. But everything else, any other moment I

1104. ever had where I was like, eh, God showed

1105. up in major ways and I just am left on

1106. the outside looking in afterwards going,

1107. I guess you knew what you were doing.

  1108. God, that's pretty cool.

1109. And those are things that you don't get

1110. to see sometimes unless you're actually

1111. choosing to invest and get to be in there.

1112. And part of that's stepping out in faith.

1113. For me, it was this moment of being like,

1114. all right, Josh and Audrey, you have

1115. trusted that God has set you up for this.

1116. And boy did he, even when I

1117. didn't think it, God knew.

1118. And that's just, that's just pretty epic.

1119. And so if you feel it all like you're

1120. called to do anything with these

1121. young adults, not kids, or even

1122. with the kids, sure, shameless plug

1123. like Eric, but honestly this is for

1124. the benefit of you guys, not them.

1125. Pour into these people, pour into

1126. them and they will pour back into you.

1127. They might drive you up a wall sometimes,

1128. but the blessing you'll receive by just

1129. pouring out your love is just phenomenal.

1130. And then also, I guess one of the

1131. challenges I gave the youth and kind of

1132. I touched on it a minute ago and worship,

1133. is that if we can't, as a youth group,

1134. show love to these other people, I.

1135. In our youth group that we're

1136. encountering in this space and

1137. show Jesus to them in a space where

1138. everybody's coming to get to know Christ.

1139. How in the world are we gonna

1140. go out into a world that hates

1141. Jesus and shine the love of Jesus?

1142. Show Jesus evangelize it all.

1143. Not everybody's called to work

1144. with youth and not everybody's

1145. called to work with kids,

1146. but if you can't show love in a church

1147. setting or show Jesus in a church

1148. setting, how can you go out to the ends

1149. of the earth in a world that doesn't

1150. want to hear it and be bold there?

1151. Um, I wasn't sure I was gonna come up

1152. here just 'cause I feel weird again.

1153. So I do this every year.

  1154. I know.

1155. Um, that last night, again,

1156. everybody keeps talking about that.

1157. Those are the moments that you long

1158. for when you go to retreat because no

1159. matter how much we play nine square,

1160. swim in the pool, sit up late talking

1161. with our friends, do crafts, do whatever.

1162. I mean, it was fun watching the

1163. boys try to make bead bracelets and

1164. I had to walk away after a while

1165. because they kept dropping them and

1166. it was just so disheartening because

1167. they would get so disappointed.

1168. Finn still has one of them.

1169. He still owes me one anyway.

  1170. No matter.

  1171. No matter what.

1172. Like, as you hear them say, like,

1173. we are all there to meet with God.

1174. And so when that happens,

  1175. it's really powerful.

1176. I've also known most of these kids,

1177. actually a lot of their families

1178. way before they were even born.

1179. And um, I've worked with

1180. them for almost six years.

1181. So I'll tell you one of the hardest things

1182. is just the dynamics of the youth group.

  1183. We've been through multiple

1184. leaders and helpers and um,

1185. just, uh, we went through COVID.

  1186. It was hard.

1187. And then just all the different things.

1188. But the dynamics of the youth

1189. group never stay the same.

  1190. There's different people coming

1191. in, different people going out.

1192. We have an influx of

1193. kids coming in this year.

  1194. It's gonna change the

1195. whole dynamic of the group.

1196. Don't be scared to come in.

1197. The leadership of this church are

1198. extremely intentional in making sure

1199. that all of your spaces and places

1200. where you need to share and meet and.

1201. And have fun and stuff are met.

1202. So please don't be afraid of that.

1203. To those of you that I've talked

1204. to that are afraid or whatever,

1205. um, I hate it when they leave.

1206. It's really hard when they leave.

1207. Lucy and Laney are seniors this year.

1208. Seth and, um, Lindsay are not here.

1209. But, um, so when they leave, it's, ugh.

1210. That is, that's probably the hardest part.

1211. I know you a lot of the time

1212. when they leave, they're ready

1213. to go, but it's just hard.

1214. Um, this year, I wanna say I'm, I'm really

1215. proud of you guys because I, you really

  1216. stretched yourselves like spiritually.

1217. I feel like, um, I. You were vulnerable,

1218. you wake even admitted to his tears.

1219. He said afterwards, he said, I have

1220. never done that before and I don't like

1221. it, but you liked it because you know

1222. that the savior met with you and hi.

1223. It is so evident in him and so evident

1224. in all of them that they met with

1225. Jesus this week and it was cool and

1226. so many of 'em are not here, but he

1227. met with them too and I loved that.

1228. And I just wanna say the Lord

1229. has blessed me so much with

1230. family and friends and stuff.

1231. So I have a plethora of different

1232. people that I hang out with, family

1233. and uh, women here and stuff like that.

1234. But you guys are one of my

1235. favorite groups to hang out with.

1236. You may not feel the same way about me,

1237. but man, I love hanging out with you.

  1238. It's so much fun.

1239. So I was the nurse and I was the

1240. one that drugged Finn, but I also

1241. drugged Wake and Ethan or Evan.

  1242. So, um.

1243. Because they had a lot going on.

  1244. I have a lot of thoughts

1245. I'm gonna try to organize.

1246. Um, so Sarah always talks about

1247. how impactful it is and I don't

1248. think that I realized, or even

1249. how much work Mark puts into it.

  1250. I didn't understand until I was there.

1251. Um, I was complaining actually a lot.

  1252. I don't like to cook or

1253. clean anyone that knows me.

1254. And it was cooking and then cleaning

1255. and then started cooking again.

1256. And Josh came in and I said,

1257. I hate cooking and cleaning.

1258. And he said, well, it sounds like

1259. God's trying to grow you, Corey.

  1260. And he was right.

1261. Um, the thing that I really found was just

1262. how much Josh loves them and I think they

1263. each feel like they're the only person

1264. or that special person that Josh loves.

1265. Um, same with Audrey, same with Sarah.

  1266. Same with Eric.

1267. You guys always have so much

1268. positive to speak into them

1269. and I appreciate it so much.

1270. Um, as for me and my complaining,

1271. um, when they had their session that

1272. they all talked about, Audrey said,

1273. please pray for me during this session.

1274. And so I was able to pray.

1275. And I think without being in that

1276. position of the cooking and cleaning,

  1277. I wouldn't have had the opportunity

1278. to pray during that session.

1279. Um, and I was amazed when they

1280. came in and every eye was tears.

1281. And so the Holy Spirit, I really

1282. think showed up in a very mighty way.

1283. Um, and I'm really thankful

  1284. for that experience.

1285. Thank you, thank you so much.

1286. And I do wanna say, uh, Josiah's

  1287. descriptions, probably nailing it.

1288. We didn't have maybe Jack Didley set up as

1289. well as we could have, but God intervened

1290. and made some good things happen.

  1291. He was probably looking

1292. like, you're gonna do what?

1293. Why are you doing that?

  1294. But God is good.

1295. I thought they were almost done.

1296. So I came up here and as my stomach turns

1297. here and nobody said what I needed to say,

  1298. the Lord help me.

  1299. Oh boy.

1300. We love you people and as

  1301. representative of those who

1302. participated in youth group by prayer.

  1303. I'm glad you're back.

1304. What I, I am going to say this.

1305. There was a youth group in Texas that

1306. a wall of water came and swept them

1307. away, and I have been praying for them.

1308. What if we had lost every

  1309. one of these people?

1310. What are families feeling like now?

  1311. And you were right.

  1312. We worship, enduring worship.

1313. So I wanna keep that in mind.

1314. Our prayers help to this,

1315. and one of my goals, I got to go

1316. to youth group years ago, and one

1317. of my goals is get healthy enough

1318. that I can actually go and help.

1319. But since I've seen you people and

1320. love you people, I pray for you people

1321. and we need to remind ourselves,

1322. what if these are the people that are

1323. gonna usher in the kingdom of God,

1324. Jesus coming back, you all, how cool

1325. is that, that we live in a day, these

1326. people are gonna change the world.

1327. And I'm sorry, but we need

1328. to keep praying for them.

1329. We, and can we, is it okay if I just

1330. pray for the families that have lost,

1331. these are Christian families with

1332. the wall of water, and thank God,

1333. I believe, Lord willing, that they

1334. are with Jesus, the one we've lost,

1335. but there's still 51 people and kids

1336. and we need to, oh Lord Jesus,

1337. you are more wonderful and holy

1338. and righteous and we love you.

1339. And I thank you that you are always good.

1340. When the enemy comes against us like

1341. a flood, will you raise up a standard

1342. in each one of our hearts to stand?

1343. In your name and say something that Jesus

1344. is Lord, and thank you for the reminder.

1345. And I do pray now for all those families

1346. that have lost people who are not sure

1347. they've lost people, the churches and

1348. the communities that are grieving.

1349. I pray Holy Spirit, that

  1350. you touch their hearts.

1351. I pray that use this event to touch

1352. hearts of people that kids who are, or

1353. parents who are on the fence thinking

1354. I always have time or I'm not sure.

  1355. I've always known, but I've not

1356. taken the step to actually know

1357. without a shadow of a doubt that if

1358. something happened, they are with you.

1359. I. I pray that you use this opportunity to

1360. stir their hearts, to get ready for you.

1361. And those of us who know you, those

1362. kids who are here that have something

1363. to say, touch their hearts and their

1364. spirits with the power and anointing

1365. to go forth and share at school and

1366. their neighborhoods and their families,

1367. that they're not on the fence anymore.

1368. They have chosen the side they're on.

1369. And Lord, I pray, Jesus,

  1370. that you're coming soon.

  1371. Let it be soon.

1372. And to prepare our hearts, our

1373. lives, our words, our hands, our

1374. feet to usher in the kingdom of

1375. God and those of us are hurting.

  1376. Let us reach out.

1377. Love and anointing and prayer.

  1378. But thank you.

1379. Let what you begun, the little spark.

  1380. Let it grow.

  1381. Let it magnify.

  1382. Let it go forth.

1383. Your kingdom come and your will be

1384. done on earth as it is in heaven.

1385. And I thank you in Jesus' name.

  1386. Thank you.

  1387. Well, anybody's feet tired.

1388. You guys doing all right?

  1389. Good.

  1390. Good, good, good.

1391. Well, this uh, kind of

  1392. concludes our youth service.

  1393. These are teens

  1394. of action,

  1395. teens of action.

1396. But I would like to challenge this church.

1397. To be in some action themselves.

1398. If you're not sure in what way you

1399. could be actionable, talk to anybody.

1400. Wear one of these shirts today.

1401. We'd love to talk through what that

1402. could look like, whether it's just

1403. getting into the word, getting connected

1404. to the vine, ways to serve maybe

1405. even the concept that these guys took

1406. home with them, with having a group,

1407. an accountability group to help you

1408. stay in the word, stay accountable.

1409. So talk to any of 'em about that.

1410. I'm gonna pray us out and, and

1411. you all have a blessed day.

1412. Thank you, God, for every last

1413. individual who spoke today and

1414. how you worked through them.

  1415. I thank you, Lord.

1416. I thank you Lord for this group.

1417. They fill everyone in this room with

1418. so much love and hope and joy and

1419. peace now that is walking the walk.

1420. Thank you for the example

1421. of Jesus Christ, our savior.

1422. And it's in his name we pray.

  1423. Amen.

  1424. Amen.

1425. Alright, go be actionable church.
