  1. All right.

  2. Thank you worship team.

  3. I just wanna make a little

  4. acknowledgement here.

  5. Uh, this is Robin Chrisman.

  6. Could you stand up, Robin?

  7. I realize that, uh.

  8. Behind you.

  9. We have some tan wood and

  10. your hair just blends in.

  11. So we have been playing auto piano today.

  12. We just hit a button.

  13. No.

  14. Oh, there she is.

  15. Okay, thanks Robin.

  16. As you can tell, it is the eve of

  17. vacation Bible school and uh, the look on

  18. different members of the worship team as

  19. they stagger through the chaos and maze.

  20. But lemme tell you, the next

  21. three nights are gonna be amazing.

  22. It's gonna be awesome.

  23. And, uh, today I want to

  24. share with you some thoughts.

  25. As I'm about to lose this backdrop to

  26. preach from, I figure I better snag a

  27. couple thoughts and, uh, I also wanna

  28. share a little encouragement at the end

  29. this morning about what's coming this

  30. week, vacation Bible school, and, uh,

  31. maybe a little word of encouragement

  32. for us as we serve in that capacity

  33. and what we're doing as a church.

  34. So we're gonna kind of try

  35. something a little funky.

  36. I know you guys tried in the sharing

  37. time to have your own sermon.

  38. Pretty impressive.

  39. Nicely done Bow.

  40. Got it.

  41. But I'm gonna do like a little

  42. ish one, and then another

  43. little tiny clip at the end.

  44. So together we'll make one big sermon

  45. out of what we've got together today.

  46. Thank you, Tracy, for your amen.

  47. That's great.

  48. I was thinking about this song, and

  49. this is my surrender, and I love

  50. this phrase, break down the walls.

  51. You know, this, this knocking

  52. down and crushing all of our

  53. established kind of, not, not, not.

  54. Disciplines and ways that

  55. we try to live our life.

  56. But, but literally the stuff that

  57. we've come to worship in place of

  58. our relationship with God, we do

  59. these duties and responsibilities.

  60. We wanna break down the walls of

  61. religious structure that is just outward

  62. appearance and get in touch with why

  63. those things existed in the first place.

  64. God wants to break down the walls

  65. of what we've built sometimes.

  66. And I've been thinking about this idea

  67. on this castle a lot over the last few

  68. weeks, and this thought has been really

  69. just kind of percolating in my mind.

  70. And I wanna share it

  71. with you this morning.

  72. Uh, especially maybe in light of

  73. thinking about this idea of God

  74. wanting to break through and some

  75. surrender in areas of our life.

  76. I want you to envision this

  77. reality that we are the castle.

  78. That this is a castle of our life.

  79. We've been using it as an illustration of,

  80. you know, the White Castle or maybe the

  81. frozen brick castle ice land, whatever.

  82. But what if we envision this as

  83. kind of us, you and me, we are this

  84. mantras, stone Stronghold, as Rusty

  85. talked about last week, this walled

  86. off fortified place, because I think

  87. here's something that we sometimes

  88. can get busy doing some religious

  89. things or some duty kind of stuff,

  90. or we can look the part in some ways.

  91. But I think that for some of us, and

  92. maybe for a lot of us, our hearts

  93. can be really hard towards God.

  94. Our hearts can be really walled off

  95. from the work that he wants to do in us.

  96. And like this castle, we can give

  97. God a little bit of space or a

  98. little bit of room, but we can

  99. be really fortified against him.

  100. Scripture uses this idea of

  101. hardness of heart towards God.

  102. And we can see in the scriptures

  103. where Jesus tried to do some things,

  104. but because of people's hardness of

  105. heart and their lack of faith, he was

  106. prohibited in accomplishing the work

  107. in their life that he wanted to do.

  108. And for you and for me, we may give

  109. God some, but do we give God full reign

  110. and full access to all of our life?

  111. Or do we have walled barriers built

  112. between us and what he wants to do in us?

  113. Proverbs 28 says this, blessed is the one

  114. who fears the Lord always, but whoever

  115. hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

  116. Whoever fears the Lord,

  117. not terror, not not.

  118. Just horror, but a sense of awe and

  119. reverence and a right place where God

  120. is king and Lord of all, someone who

  121. fears the Lord, not sometimes, but

  122. always in a constant, perpetual state

  123. of him being Lord and him being king.

  124. That person in scripture

  125. says will be blessed.

  126. But those who harden their heart,

  127. who have a stubborn and fortified

  128. heart against God, and they give

  129. God some, but not all, they're gonna

  130. fall into something called calamity.

  131. And that's a destructive, painful

  132. place to be where things come to ruin.

  133. And there is great hard suffering

  134. and destruction in the, I mean,

  135. Russell touched on it, just a little

  136. bit of the things we hold onto and

  137. then they maybe sometimes they're

  138. just gone and they fall apart.

  139. God allows calamity in our life sometimes

  140. because of our hardness of heart.

  141. And in our world in which we live,

  142. we've been trained as Christians to

  143. see calamity as the work of the enemy.

  144. That hardship, difficulty suffering.

  145. That's because Satan's winning this

  146. round, but maybe there's hardness in our

  147. hearts towards God, and he's allowing

  148. calamity because he's not Lord always.

  149. He's just Lord some of the

  150. time and some of the space.

  151. And when it's convenient or when you've

  152. negotiated it, and that calamity that

  153. comes in has a purpose to do this

  154. refining work in us and bring us back

  155. to a place where we fear him as Lord.

  156. And King always says over

  157. in, uh, Ephesians, they're

  158. darkened in their understanding.

  159. People darkened in their understanding,

  160. alienated from the life of God.

  161. Because of the ignorance that's in them

  162. due to what their hardness of heart,

  163. because of their hard hearts towards

  164. God, because of their resistance to

  165. allow God to do the work that he wants

  166. to do and have access to the places in

  167. their life that he wants to have access.

  168. Because of those things, they become

  169. darkened in their understanding.

  170. Or if you pay attention to where our

  171. world's at, when it comes to gender or

  172. sexuality, people have become darkened

  173. in what their understanding is, what they

  174. believe to be true, what they believe to

  175. be natural and normal and appropriate.

  176. Right?

  177. People's understanding, their

  178. comprehension has become darkened.

  179. It's moved away from the righteousness

  180. and the light that God shines in

  181. truth, and it's moved into shadow.

  182. It's done that because of their ignorance

  183. that's due to the hardness of their heart.

  184. They say, no, God, you can't

  185. speak to my life in this area

  186. of sexuality or en gender.

  187. You can't speak to that.

  188. You can talk about Sunday

  189. morning and singing songs.

  190. That's fine.

  191. Maybe you can talk a little bit

  192. about stewardship strategies

  193. and financial pieces.

  194. But when we wall ourselves off

  195. from all that God wants to speak

  196. into us, there becomes darkness.

  197. And our understanding is in the shadow.

  198. It's not in the light and

  199. it's not in the truth.

  200. And in the shadow you believe, you see

  201. things that you don't, that aren't real

  202. and that aren't true, but the shadow

  203. affects your perception and you believe

  204. it's true and you fight for it as truth

  205. and as a great deception of the enemy.

  206. And as that darkening happens more

  207. and more, we become alienated.

  208. It means we become foreigners to

  209. God and the life that he has for us.

  210. It stops looking normal

  211. to walk in righteousness.

  212. It stops looking normal to

  213. walk in gender or in marriage.

  214. Covenant relationship as God

  215. clearly lays it out in his word.

  216. And we live in the shadow.

  217. And we think in the shadow.

  218. And now our perception has shifted so

  219. much that we live in a land that is

  220. foreign to the land that God has for us.

  221. And the ways that we live and

  222. the practices of our life no

  223. longer reflect his design.

  224. And his design isn't bad, it's

  225. not burdensome, is not horrible.

  226. It's not, it's great.

  227. It's good.

  228. It leads to abundant life.

  229. But in the shadow you don't see it.

  230. 'cause you're just looking at the shadow.

  231. The understanding is darkened,

  232. we're alienated and there becomes

  233. legitimate ignorance in us foolishness.

  234. We just don't know the truth because

  235. we live in the shadow and because we've

  236. walled ourself off from God and our

  237. hearts are hard against his truth, and

  238. just like these heavy castle walls,

  239. we reside in this space and say, God,

  240. you can't come in and you can't be.

  241. Lord

  242. Roman says this, because of your

  243. stubbornness and your unrepentant

  244. heart, what you're really doing is

  245. you're storing up wrath against who

  246. yourself for the day of God's judgment.

  247. When his righteous

  248. judgment will be revealed.

  249. The day of God's wrath.

  250. Here's the truth.

  251. Hearts that are unrepentant, right, that

  252. are stubborn, that are hard towards God.

  253. Say, I'm gonna live in the

  254. shadow and you can speak some

  255. truth into my life, but not all.

  256. And I won't listen to everything, but

  257. I'll listen to some of the things.

  258. What happens is we are storing up, you me,

  259. we're storing up consequence and wrath for

  260. the day of judgment that is going to come.

  261. And it's because of the stubbornness and

  262. the lack of repentance in our hearts to

  263. say, God, please forgive me for my sin.

  264. Recently had some conversations

  265. with some people about this whole

  266. idea of plea bargains, and I heard,

  267. I heard a judge once say that

  268. looking for leniency and grace in

  269. this judgment said, this courtroom

  270. is not a place of grace and mercy.

  271. It's a place of judgment.

  272. And we forget that you and I right now.

  273. Live in a land where there's prosecution

  274. against us by the enemy, right?

  275. We live in a land where there's a plea

  276. deal on the table where we can come

  277. before Jesus and say, with repentant

  278. hearts, hearts of repentance, saying,

  279. Jesus, please forgive me for my sin.

  280. I come before you.

  281. I confess my sin.

  282. I say, I'm a sinner and I need you.

  283. Thousands of people did it in

  284. California, I heard recently, right?

  285. People come to him and say,

  286. please forgive me for my sin.

  287. I confess my sin before you.

  288. And in that repentant heart,

  289. Jesus makes a deal with us.

  290. He says, I'll take your sin.

  291. I'll take the wrath that you have

  292. stored up and I'll put it on myself.

  293. And in the day of judgment, when you

  294. stand before God, because every man,

  295. woman, child's going to, and in that day

  296. and in that space, when the consequences

  297. do you, I'll step before the judge

  298. and say, no, we have an agreement.

  299. There's been a plea bargain.

  300. We've worked this out and the price has

  301. been paid, and the wrath of God, scripture

  302. says, is satisfied through Jesus.

  303. But for those who choose not to be

  304. repentant and who remain stubborn

  305. in heart, the reality is that

  306. they're gonna face the wrath of God.

  307. When his don't miss this.

  308. Righteous judgment will be revealed.

  309. God is righteous.

  310. What's the root word?

  311. Right?

  312. If we live in sinful rebellion

  313. against God and we stand before him

  314. and he condemns us, he's not wrong.

  315. He's right.

  316. His judgments are right, righteous,

  317. and there is no escaping that reality.

  318. We will all face it.

  319. It simply comes to whether or

  320. not we've had repentant hearts.

  321. That aren't stubborn before God,

  322. but instead give him access.

  323. Right?

  324. This idea here of Jesus

  325. coming and knocking, right?

  326. I couldn't get this thing to work

  327. too well, so just kind of disregard.

  328. But if we're the castle, the crazy

  329. part is we don't have to go out

  330. and chase down this plea deal.

  331. It comes right to our door in Revelation.

  332. Jesus says, here I am.

  333. I stand at the door and I knock, and

  334. if anyone hears my voice and opens

  335. the door, I will come in and eat

  336. with that person and they with me.

  337. This word in the Greek here

  338. literally means to suck.

  339. Jesus will wills with you.

  340. I got a really cool t-shirt that

  341. I'm trying to convince Jamie of.

  342. It's all the disciples of the

  343. last Supper, and they're all

  344. saying, sup, sup, sup, sup, right?

  345. Like to sup to supper.

  346. Here's why that's important.

  347. Jesus isn't saying, I'm gonna come

  348. in and I'm gonna do, he's just, I'm

  349. gonna come in and do life with you.

  350. I'm gonna be in your life.

  351. We're gonna eat, we're gonna

  352. do work, we're gonna play,

  353. we're gonna do life together.

  354. I'm gonna do life with you.

  355. I'm gonna s with you.

  356. I'm gonna be with you.

  357. And what's cool is this isn't something

  358. that's offered to the select few.

  359. It's open to who?

  360. Anyone.

  361. But not just anyone gets to S with Jesus.

  362. 'cause see, he's knocking.

  363. Right?

  364. And anyone can do something,

  365. but they have to do something.

  366. What do they have to do?

  367. They have to open the door.

  368. And when our hearts are so stubborn and

  369. we're so unrepentant, and we got the

  370. music cranking inside the castle walls,

  371. Jesus isn't kicking down the door.

  372. He's not blaring on a megaphone.

  373. Hey, I'm knocking.

  374. He's just knocking.

  375. At a reasonable volume.

  376. And you could hear him if the

  377. volume in your heart was reasonable.

  378. But if the noise and the culture

  379. around you that you've allowed to

  380. become center stage in the castle

  381. of your life, drowns out his

  382. knocking, you're not gonna hear it.

  383. And that's why the stubbornness of

  384. our heart needs to shift towards God.

  385. The hardness of our heart needs

  386. to shift and we need to listen.

  387. And when he knocks, we need to respond.

  388. Maybe in this cheesy castle metaphor,

  389. we could say simply this, will you

  390. lower the drawbridge and allow Jesus

  391. access into the castle of your life?

  392. Will you open the door

  393. and let him come in?

  394. 'cause he's a gentleman

  395. and he's gonna knock.

  396. He's not gonna kick it down, and

  397. he's knocking on every heart.

  398. Some of us have felt it.

  399. Some of us know what that's like.

  400. Some of us wonder.

  401. And lemme tell you, if you soften your

  402. heart, that's the opposite of hardening.

  403. If you soften your heart to God,

  404. you can hear and you can feel his

  405. knocking and you can hear his voice,

  406. maybe not in an audible sense, and

  407. you don't need to, but you can know

  408. through the power of the Holy Spirit,

  409. him saying, Hey, I wanna su with you,

  410. and I also want to maybe warn you that

  411. Jesus loves you enough in this crazy

  412. castle metaphor to lay siege to your life,

  413. to lay siege to the castle of your heart.

  414. Siege is an old word, and maybe

  415. it's a little intense here in this

  416. usage, a military tactic where an

  417. army surrounds a fortified place

  418. like a city or a castle to cut off

  419. its supplies and its reinforcements.

  420. Forcing it to what?

  421. Surrender.

  422. This is my surrender.

  423. See, that's God's goal for

  424. your life, for your heart.

  425. Not that you would be vanquished, not

  426. that you would be defeated, but that as he

  427. surrounds your life, as he knocks on the

  428. door, that you would willingly surrender.

  429. But it's not a loss.

  430. That's what the shadows

  431. would say to you, right?

  432. Living in the shadow, looking

  433. like, oh man, Jesus is gonna win.

  434. I'm gonna lose, dude, you're gonna win.

  435. His ways are better.

  436. His ways are good.

  437. He offers abundant life.

  438. We get to come outta the shadow and into

  439. the light and find joy and peace and hope.

  440. But the enemy would say

  441. to us, oh, surrender.

  442. Failure.

  443. Loss.

  444. Oh man.

  445. Talk to some people who are

  446. running in their stubbornness

  447. and their hardness of heart.

  448. They're struggling and they're

  449. miserable, and they lay awake at night

  450. trying to make sense of the craziness.

  451. 'cause the dots don't connect

  452. and the math doesn't add up,

  453. and there's emptiness in them.

  454. And hollowness, Jesus

  455. loves you enough guys.

  456. He might surround your life and cut off

  457. the supply of evil and cut off the evil

  458. reinforcements and cut off the access to

  459. stuff that's destroying you because he

  460. loves you to choke out all of the things

  461. of this life that are pulling you away

  462. from him, so that you can hear, so that

  463. you can turn, and so that you might, as he

  464. says in his word, be healed and forgiven

  465. because of his crazy awesome love.

  466. He might lay siege to

  467. the castle of your heart.

  468. And maybe in a real simple

  469. way, if we're the castle, it's

  470. important for us to remember this.

  471. There can only be one king.

  472. There's only one king in this

  473. kingdom and in this throne room.

  474. And the question really that we have

  475. to answer is, who's sitting on the

  476. throne of your heart, of your life?

  477. You guys have been

  478. marketed an interesting form of

  479. Christianity that somehow you can

  480. go to church and sing some songs and

  481. maybe help do a youth group activity

  482. and do what you want to do with

  483. your life and give God maybe 10% of

  484. your time, energy, and resources.

  485. And he's cool with that.

  486. You're king.

  487. 90.

  488. He's king.

  489. 10 works great.

  490. That's not a biblical picture

  491. of Christianity at all.

  492. Jesus said, if you wanna find

  493. your life, you're gonna lose it.

  494. If you want hope and life,

  495. you're gonna give your life away.

  496. You are going to surrender and you're

  497. gonna stop being king of your life.

  498. You're gonna stop being on the throne.

  499. Jesus is not your co-pilot

  500. stupidest bumper sticker ever.

  501. He's not your co-pilot.

  502. You're lucky to be in the tail wing

  503. with him while he is flying, right?

  504. He is the king of kings and the

  505. Lord of Lords, and he's a good king.

  506. And listen, we just got done

  507. celebrating two weeks ago and shooting

  508. off fireworks 'cause we kicked the

  509. king out of our country in America.

  510. We got a little king problem.

  511. Totally understand that we're independent

  512. and we're fierce, and we do our own thing

  513. because Jesus will settle for one role in

  514. one position in your life, king and Lord.

  515. We sing songs with the word Lord,

  516. but we have no context to understand

  517. what it looks like to serve him, to

  518. submit to him as Lord of our life.

  519. And let me just.

  520. Lemme just tell you the truth,

  521. thinking you and Jesus kind of copilot

  522. this thing and team up together.

  523. That's the shadow.

  524. That's not the truth of God's word.

  525. That's the enemy's version of

  526. what it looks like to sort of

  527. play this game of following Jesus.

  528. He loves you.

  529. He died for you.

  530. He's fighting for you.

  531. He is knocking on the door,

  532. and you can let him in and you can give

  533. him access, but you are going to have

  534. to abdicate the throne of your life.

  535. You're gonna have to get off the

  536. throne and step away and let him

  537. sit on the throne and dictate terms.

  538. What's the Lord's prayer?

  539. Your will be done.

  540. That's not my will be done.

  541. Your will be done.

  542. We submit to his will and

  543. we surrender to his will.

  544. And if we're not willing to do that,

  545. Jesus says, we're not worthy of him.

  546. If we're not willing to pick up our cross

  547. and follow him, we're not worthy of him.

  548. And it scares me to death to think

  549. of the number of people who will

  550. stand before that throne in judgment

  551. one day and say, oh Lord, Lord, we

  552. went to church, Lord, we sang songs.

  553. We led the choir.

  554. We helped in youth group.

  555. And he's gonna be saying,

  556. I don't even know you, man.

  557. That's the truth.

  558. Jesus warned us about that.

  559. Do not harden your heart.

  560. Do not be stubborn.

  561. A repentant heart.

  562. A contrite heart.

  563. I will not despise, says the Lord.

  564. We can come to him in repentance, confess

  565. our sin, and he wipes it away and he

  566. gives us access to relationship to him.

  567. One of the dangers that we see in

  568. American church is we have amazing

  569. rallies where thousands of people come and

  570. they say, Jesus, forgive me for my sin.

  571. But they miss saying,

  572. Jesus, be Lord of my life.

  573. I surrender to your will.

  574. Don't miss that 'cause if you do,

  575. it's only part of the picture of

  576. what it means to follow Jesus.

  577. Lord, thank you for the imagery

  578. and the truth of what it looks like

  579. to harden our hearts against you.

  580. Thank you for the very painful

  581. and convicting reminder that

  582. you're supposed to be the Lord.

  583. We're not colos or co kings, but

  584. that we are to lay down our life and

  585. surrender to you, and to serve you.

  586. And Lord, I pray that you would break.

  587. The, the bondage of the enemy

  588. that he has over our head and our

  589. heart that tells us that somehow

  590. being your servant is miserable.

  591. Being your servant is no

  592. joy and no hope and no life.

  593. And we lose everything.

  594. We, God help us to see the truth that

  595. you are good and help us to trust you

  596. and to get off the throne of our own

  597. life and step away and throw open

  598. the drawbridge and let you come and

  599. be king of kings and Lord of lords.

  600. And God for any of us this

  601. morning who are listening here or

  602. online, and we've not done that.

  603. We don't have to come to

  604. the front and kneel down.

  605. We don't have to have a big spectacle.

  606. 'cause you're right there

  607. with us in this moment.

  608. And God, for anybody who's

  609. not allowed you to be, Lord

  610. confessed with their mouth that Jesus

  611. is Lord and repented of their sin.

  612. God, I pray in this moment right here, you

  613. give 'em the courage to utter those words

  614. quietly to you to have a repentant heart.

  615. Father, please forgive me for my

  616. sin and a heart of surrender to

  617. say, Lord, be Lord of my life.

  618. I surrender to you.

  619. And God, I pray that as we pray

  620. that prayer in authenticity, that

  621. you would begin to transform us.

  622. And Lord, for those of us

  623. who think we serve you, who dabble

  624. in it all the way up to trying

  625. to do it really well and our

  626. flesh gets in the way so much.

  627. I pray you'd forgive our sin and you'd

  628. cleanse us from all unrighteousness,

  629. and if we're trying to sneak back

  630. towards that throne just a little bit or

  631. ease onto the space, I pray that you'd

  632. help us just to step away and fully

  633. surrender that to you today as well.

  634. Take the reigns, take the throne, and

  635. lead us Lord, into what really matters

  636. and what really fulfills in this life.

  637. In Jesus name, amen.

  638. We have a really cool logo.

  639. I don't know, I didn't design

  640. it, but I think it's kind of cool

  641. for what we're gonna do tomorrow.

  642. Knights of White Rock, and there's a

  643. really cool tagline, servants of the King.

  644. It's a great reminder of the role

  645. that God calls us to, to be men and

  646. women and teenagers, kids who serve.

  647. Not ourselves, but the King of

  648. Kings and the Lord of Lords.

  649. And in just a second, I'm gonna share

  650. some thoughts with you that I really

  651. want you not to miss as we think

  652. about what that's gonna look like.

  653. But there's a few other things going

  654. on in ways that we're serving the

  655. king that you need to know about.

  656. So just really quickly tonight, whoop,

  657. I don't know where everything is there.

  658. The teens are going to the

  659. fair, so lemme change that.

  660. Okay.

  661. Four 30 and the colleges

  662. are going to the fair.

  663. But next Sunday, right after

  664. church, we have a super important.

  665. Teen orientation meeting.

  666. So all teen leaders.

  667. All teen parents, teens of parents,

  668. parents of teens, sorry, all teenagers.

  669. Please join us next door.

  670. If you're coming in from sixth

  671. grade, we're really excited to share

  672. with you some of what's going on.

  673. So please, teens, parents and youth

  674. leaders next door right after church.

  675. It won't be a long meeting, but a really

  676. important one we don't want you to miss.

  677. There's also a lock in, lock out.

  678. I don't even know what this is.

  679. Get locked up.

  680. Some stuff coming for

  681. the teens down the road.

  682. Don't miss that.

  683. It's gonna be super cool.

  684. Uh, get that on your calendars.

  685. There's a men's fishing trip coming

  686. up in a couple weeks and there's

  687. a thing to sign up in the back.

  688. If you don't sign up in the back.

  689. Doesn't mean you can't go.

  690. Just means that we won't have any idea.

  691. You're going and we may start

  692. without you or you might be.

  693. Walking on the water with Jesus.

  694. If you're gonna try to

  695. get a boat, I'm not sure.

  696. So make sure you get signed up on there.

  697. That helps us kind of know

  698. some food logistics as well.

  699. And then we're really excited about

  700. this cool comedy night that's coming.

  701. We're bringing somebody in who's a

  702. Christian girl who likes to share comedy

  703. and use this as a way to kind of impact

  704. and, and share the, you know, a little

  705. love of Jesus in the midst of things.

  706. It's kind of built as an educator's night.

  707. So if you have teachers, you know,

  708. people in education, we wanna bless

  709. them with some ticket options.

  710. Uh, and if you want to come

  711. yourself, you can check it out.

  712. Um, we're gonna be limited in space, but

  713. we're gonna try to make that available

  714. as kind of just an outreach ministry.

  715. So please, uh, take advantage

  716. of that, check that thing

  717. out and that will be great.

  718. Tom's gonna sneak up here real quick

  719. and share a couple quick logistics on

  720. what's going on for where we're gonna be.

  721. As you can tell, we're

  722. transforming this room.

  723. Uh, next Sunday is probably going

  724. to be a confetti fest, so just

  725. bring your high boots, right?

  726. Tom, Tom, step up here if you

  727. would real quick and, uh, just a

  728. couple logistics and then I wanna.

  729. A little scripture and some thoughts

  730. here as we wrap up this morning.

  731. Great job, man.

  732. Great message.

  733. That's good stuff.

  734. Um, the, uh, biggest important thing,

  735. you got your shirts in the back.

  736. Hey, thank you everyone for volunteering.

  737. We have over 75 kids signed

  738. up to be a part of this.

  739. So we normally have like

  740. 25 to 30 kids next door.

  741. So, um, it's gonna be a great outreach.

  742. We have over 75 of you guys

  743. signed up, so thank you so much.

  744. It'll make things go, go great.

  745. Um, your shirts were in the

  746. back and a table in the back.

  747. You may have already gotten 'em.

  748. If you haven't, we have

  749. them there for you.

  750. Uh, be mindful inside that bag is a

  751. piece of paper that has great directions.

  752. It'll get you most prepped for,

  753. for what to expect from you guys

  754. and, and from us there for, uh.

  755. For Tomo, the start of

  756. our VBS tomorrow night.

  757. Um, and, uh, and there are

  758. some shields back there.

  759. We have a limited amount of 'em, but

  760. they're, they're a decent sized shield.

  761. If you feel like taking one home

  762. and decorating 'em and rocking

  763. it, uh, the next few days, uh,

  764. it, it, it brings more hype.

  765. So, thank you guys.

  766. Love you so much.

  767. Yeah.

  768. If you've not, uh, if you've not been

  769. a part of a VBS, I would encourage

  770. you to sneak out Monday night.

  771. Just check it out, cheer 'em on.

  772. It's probably the coolest

  773. thing that we do all year.

  774. Tons of hype, tons of fun, lots of

  775. music we're bringing back from 11

  776. years ago with a little twist and, uh,

  777. puppets, confetti cannons, the Standard

  778. Church Day at White Rock Fellowship.

  779. But, uh, what a cool thing.

  780. And the reason I wanna encourage you to

  781. maybe find a way to plug in or encourage

  782. is because we are called to be servants of

  783. the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and

  784. this idea of Jesus being on the throne.

  785. Even a kinda a thing.

  786. The disciples struggled just a

  787. little bit with, we read over in

  788. Matthew chapter 18, this interesting

    Matthew 18 chapter mention

  789. interaction where the disciples are

  790. talking to Jesus and they ask him this.

  791. That was his answer.

  792. He was like, listen up, bro.

  793. At that time, the disciples came to Jesus

  794. and they asked, they said, who then is

  795. the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

  796. They wanted to know status, right?

  797. And this megas word is status and rank.

  798. They wanted to know who was

  799. the most important, who was the

  800. greatest, who's, you know, well

  801. second in line to the throne.

  802. They wanted to know about being

  803. in charge and having status.

  804. Right?

  805. And Jesus does this really cool thing.

  806. He calls a little child to him

  807. and he places the little child

  808. among them, and he says, this.

  809. Truly, I tell you, unless you change

  810. and become like little children, you'll

  811. never enter the kingdom of heaven.

  812. I'm like, what?

  813. That's, that's wild.

  814. We have to change and

  815. become like little children.

  816. He said, therefore, whoever takes the

  817. lowly position of this child is the

  818. greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  819. Sons and servants filled the similar role

  820. in biblical times where Jesus is talking.

  821. A kid was subservient to his

  822. parents, not in charge of the house.

  823. Like today.

  824. A kid did what Mom and dad said.

  825. A kid was not on the throne at home.

  826. A kid was obedient and under the

  827. authority of the king of the house Dad.

  828. That's what it looked like.

  829. And Jesus says, Hey, look at this kid

  830. unless you humble yourself other places.

  831. He says this, unless you become

  832. a servant of all right, who's

  833. the greatest, the servant of all.

  834. A slave, he says, so we lower ourselves

  835. to the status of servant, and unless

  836. we do that, he says, we won't even

  837. get into the kingdom of heaven.

  838. Do you know why he says, you

  839. won't even get into the kingdom

  840. of heaven unless you do it?

  841. Because what we talked about this morning,

  842. because unless you humble yourself

  843. before the Lord and you have a repentant

  844. heart, and there's no hardness and

  845. stubbornness, you're gonna be sitting

  846. on the throne on the day of judgment.

  847. He's not gonna be in the castle with you.

  848. Right?

  849. And so unless we take this lowly

  850. position of humility before the Lord

  851. Jesus says, we're not even gonna

  852. make it into the kingdom of heaven.

  853. Now, whoever welcomes one such

  854. child in my name, Jesus finishes

  855. the thought and don't miss this.

  856. Whoever welcomes these lowly little

  857. kids with their runny snotty noses

  858. and their poopy diapers and their

  859. crazy loudness, whoever welcomes one

  860. of those kids in my name welcomes me.

  861. Welcomes me.

  862. The gospel of Mark Jesus is recorded as

  863. saying, whoever welcomes one of these

  864. little children in my name welcomes me.

  865. And whoever welcomes me welcomes not

  866. only me, but the very one who sent me.

  867. So do you understand that when you

  868. welcome a little child in the name of

  869. Jesus, when you welcome a little child

  870. and show 'em the love of Jesus, and you

  871. surround 'em with joy and hope, and help

  872. 'em understand that there's a heavenly

  873. Father who loves him, you're not just

  874. welcoming a little kid, you are welcoming

  875. the king of kings and Lord of Lords, the

  876. one who sits on the throne, God Almighty,

  877. is invited into your presence and you're

  878. not just doing it for your kid, it's as

  879. though you are doing it to him himself.

  880. That's the status.

  881. He recognizes that as.

  882. It's why Dwight Moody once said, if I had

  883. it to do all over again, you know, like

  884. the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago,

  885. great evangelist, Dwight Moody, he said,

  886. if I had it to do all over again, I'd

  887. spend my whole life evangelizing children.

  888. I love that quote.

  889. God loves all of us, but he is very

  890. adamant about how we love kids.

  891. So lemme tell you, it's gonna be psycho

  892. for the next three days around here.

  893. 'cause you guys love kids better

  894. than anybody I've ever seen.

  895. And we're gonna have a ton of fun.

  896. And next Sunday we're gonna have

  897. kids up here singing and we're

  898. gonna celebrate the week that was.

  899. And we're gonna honor all the

  900. cool things and we're gonna

  901. share some of the messaging.

  902. We'll bring some crazy puppets out,

  903. these holes and crevices of this castle.

  904. Not because we wanna have fun and goof

  905. off, but because we wanna acknowledge

  906. that when we welcome a child in the name

  907. of Jesus, we welcome almighty God himself

  908. into the room and that he has status in

  909. place right here with us little children.

  910. Man, they, they matter.

  911. Don't neglect.

  912. And man, make sure you welcome.

  913. So I wanna encourage you, whatever

  914. your role is with the 75 people

  915. who are signed up to serve.

  916. You can just show up and we'll

  917. give you a spot to stand and

  918. high five and knuckle some kids.

  919. Make sure that if you're a greeter,

  920. that you recognize you got the

  921. best job in the house, right?

  922. 'cause if you're welcome a

  923. kid, you're welcome, Jesus.

  924. That's a big deal.

  925. But we're gonna serve, we're gonna

  926. love, we're gonna do some cool

  927. things as servants of the king.

  928. And if you're trying to figure out

  929. what that looks like to serve the

  930. king and get off the throne of your

  931. own life, you might rearrange your

  932. schedule for a couple days and pop out

  933. and see how you can just roll up your

  934. sleeves and help clean up some messes.

  935. 'cause there's nothing like

  936. vacuuming glitter in the

  937. church, or no, it's not true.

  938. Alright, Lord Jesus, thank you

  939. for this amazing church family.

  940. Thank you for the incredible

  941. privilege that we have to serve you.

  942. Lord, I pray over everybody who's gonna

  943. help serve the next three days in vacation

  944. Bible school the next three evenings.

  945. Lord, I pray your Holy Spirit would

  946. show up in crazy cool ways that every

  947. child who steps onto this property

  948. would feel your presence and your

  949. love, that they would walk away saying.

  950. If they don't even go to church, Lord,

  951. they walk away saying, I think God loves

  952. me just because of the love of your

  953. people poured out over the next few days.

  954. Pray for all the crazy logistics

  955. and all the chaos of organization.

  956. I pray for safety and protection,

  957. and God, I just pray that there would

  958. be a whole bunch of kids who get

  959. connected to you and discover your

  960. love in a whole fresh and new way.

  961. I pray for moms and dads that it

  962. would spill over into them as well.

  963. And God, I pray for all of our

  964. volunteers that they would be

  965. transformed in service to you.

  966. We commit this time to you, Jesus,

  967. and God I pray for every other

  968. role, every other lowly position or

  969. lofty position that you've allowed

  970. us to step into as your servant.

  971. And I pray that this week you would

  972. give us opportunity to see the impact

  973. of serving you instead of serving

  974. ourselves in all the venues you got us.

  975. Help us, Lord, this week as we serve

  976. the King of Kings 'cause we're all

  977. knights, princes and princesses in

  978. your family, but sons and daughters

  979. called to be servants, so help us

  980. live that out in some cool ways.

  981. I pray.

  982. Thank you, Jesus.

  983. In your name, we pray all these things.

  984. Amen.
