  1. In just a moment, the kids are gonna

  2. join us for this baptism celebration,

  3. but I wanna just say a couple quick

  4. things about the goodness of God.

  5. You know, this morning at 3:00 AM

  6. up with Illa praying and just being

  7. with her a minute and watching this

  8. transition from the land of the

  9. dying to the land of the living.

  10. You look at the world around you

  11. and you look at your circumstances

  12. and all the things that you face.

  13. And you can say that God is good if, as

  14. my wife preached a really great sermon

  15. in a couple seconds, and Joel said, we

  16. fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and

  17. the perfect of our faith, who for the

  18. joy set before him endured the cross.

  19. Right.

  20. And he did that for us.

  21. And no matter what we face

  22. in this life, it's temporary.

  23. It's but a vapor.

  24. Right.

  25. And he is eternal, and our

  26. life and our hope is eternal.

  27. That doesn't mean we don't have some

  28. joy in this crazy adventure of life.

  29. We absolutely do.

  30. God made us for life, not for death,

  31. but even in the transition from death

  32. to life, we find hope and we can

  33. even find joy and peace and comfort

  34. knowing that it's not the end.

  35. This life of ours is a very

  36. short preface to the book, but.

  37. I digress from the fun of what

  38. was really in store today, the

  39. eternal hope that we have in Christ.

  40. Uh, that didn't show up.

  41. All right.

  42. It's supposed to be a really cool graphic

  43. that sloes, and it was really exciting.

  44. It's gonna be a great transition,

  45. but you're gonna get the word Sunday.

  46. So Derek, if you can come up here, buddy.

  47. D's, grab that door.

  48. We're gonna pop open these doors for

  49. just a second to cool this place off.

  50. Uh, if you've been around White

  51. Rock, you know that, uh, we like to

  52. celebrate as a family and I don't

  53. know if at your family's picnic.

  54. Yep.

  55. Hold all the open please.

  56. Uh, I don't know if your family's

  57. picnic, you guys open the windows

  58. and the doors and you let the bugs

  59. come in, but that's what we're

  60. gonna do and there's no bugs yet.

  61. So kids are coming right up here.

  62. They're gonna join us right up here on

  63. the platform or on the, on this concrete

  64. area right up here, guys, so you can

  65. get a good view of what's gonna go on.

  66. 'cause we are gonna

  67. celebrate baptism together.

  68. As the church, and we're gonna

  69. talk a little bit about baptism,

  70. whether the graphics work or not.

  71. Hey Josh, you want to kind of keep

  72. our line in this area here so we got

  73. spots for people to pile down there.

  74. Yeah, I used to be a bouncer.

  75. You like the baptism bouncer right there.

  76. I love that.

  77. Love that.

  78. Great.

  79. Yeah.

  80. We're gonna have to go

  81. like multiple rows, guys.

  82. Keep.

  83. Keep filling up the

  84. space here around, huh?

  85. You wanna bring him over

  86. this way a little bit?

  87. Yeah.

  88. Whatever you got.

  89. Jamie.

  90. Jamie.

  91. Not walk back there a minute.

  92. Yeah, I thought Dax was on this, right?

  93. Well, we were waiting until

  94. you were done with it.

  95. No, we're gonna do all that now.

  96. Big one right here first, and then

  97. Thank you.

  98. And we're done.

  99. Let's,

  100. I don't know what your normal

  101. baptism experience is like,

  102. but this is how it should be.

  103. Because if you're getting

  104. baptized, you know, with Jesus in

  105. the Jordan, something like that.

  106. You had birds and you had

  107. animals and you had kids and you

  108. had crowds and you had noise.

  109. So this idea that baptism should

  110. be some quiet, somber moment

  111. just seems unbiblical to me.

  112. The village experience.

  113. What's that?

  114. Village experience.

  115. Oh, it's, yeah, it's an experience.

  116. Alright, so we're gonna talk for

  117. just a minute about what baptism is

  118. because we got a lot of people getting

  119. baptized today and we've got folks in.

  120. Family that are here to celebrate.

  121. And we're gonna talk just a minute

  122. about this whole idea of baptism.

  123. What is baptism?

  124. Sound like a plan, Corey?

  125. Good.

  126. All right.

  127. Corey's paying attention.

  128. We're good.

  129. Long as I got Corey.

  130. We're gonna roll.

  131. Hey, the word baptism in, uh, the Greek

  132. is this fancy little word, baptizo.

  133. And when you hear the word baptizo.

  134. You might guess, oh, that's

  135. probably a baptism thing, right?

  136. And it literally means to dip, or to

  137. plunge, or to immerse, which is why we use

  138. this very fancy, high level horse trough

  139. filled with water so that we can immerse

  140. people in the water as a symbolic and a

  141. significant act of faithfulness in Jesus.

  142. Baptism is super symbolic.

  143. It symbolizes some things

  144. that are really important.

  145. Now, don't make any mistake here.

  146. Jesus is the one who forgives

  147. our sin and makes our heart clean

  148. and washes us white as snow.

  149. This is just, this is just water, and

  150. it's kind of warm, so don't be worried.

  151. Those of you who are gonna get

  152. baptized, but baptism symbolizes this

  153. idea of the washing away of our sin.

  154. Scripture teaches us that in one John, the

  155. blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

  156. So it's not water that

  157. cleanses us from all sin.

  158. It's the blood of Jesus.

  159. And if we confess our sins right, if

  160. we confess our sins, he's faithful

  161. and just to forgive us of our sins

  162. and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.

  163. And today as people are gonna be baptized.

  164. I'm gonna ask them a simple question that

  165. they've confessed their sin and asked

  166. Jesus to be Lord and Savior of their life.

  167. It's an act of submission and confession

  168. and faithfulness, and that's really

  169. the prerequisite for getting to be

  170. baptized, is that we've confessed

  171. our sin, we have a relationship

  172. with Jesus, and we're choosing in

  173. obedience to be baptized in faith.

  174. Now, this idea of washing away our sins.

  175. Isn't what the water does, but

  176. it's a pretty cool image of

  177. taking the filth and the dirt and

  178. the grime and washing us clean.

  179. It also has this imagery of being dead

  180. to sin as we lay back in the water

  181. and being raised to life in Christ.

  182. I had a group I worked with years ago

  183. that they liked to do baptisms, kneeling,

  184. and they would go forward in the water

  185. and come back up and I don't know that

  186. there's anything wrong or bad about that.

  187. But the imagery of being laid to rest,

  188. that our sins are dead and gone and we

  189. are raised to life in Christ, is a really

  190. powerful image and picture of baptism.

  191. It says in Romans six, four that we are

  192. therefore buried with him through baptism

  193. into death in order that just as Christ

  194. was raised from the dead through the glory

  195. of the Father, we may live a new life.

  196. And so baptism gives us a

  197. really cool picture of that.

  198. And don't forget, it's just water.

  199. It's not the blood of Jesus.

  200. It's symbolic, right?

  201. So it demonstrates something

  202. that Jesus has done in us.

  203. You might know this old phrase,

  204. you've been around the church, much.

  205. Baptism is an outward sign

  206. of an inward work, right?

  207. It's an outward expression or act

  208. that we can all see on the outside

  209. that really is saying, Hey, Jesus.

  210. Has done something on the inside

  211. as I've confessed my sin to him and

  212. I've surrendered to him as Lord,

  213. he's begun this transformation in me.

  214. Now, people ask me this question a lot.

  215. Do we have to be baptized?

  216. And I think I can take you to

  217. the scene where Jesus is hanging

  218. on the cross and beside him is

  219. a person who's dying and says.

  220. Lord remember me today in paradise

  221. and, and or Remember me when you come

  222. into your kingdom and Jesus said, this

  223. day you'll be with me in paradise.

  224. And we don't have a story of Jesus flicked

  225. a little water from the cross back onto

  226. that guy, like it's not recorded for us.

  227. And so we definitely have instances

  228. in scripture where we see people who

  229. have put their faith in Jesus Christ

  230. and baptism wasn't recorded for us.

  231. Do we have to be baptized?

  232. I don't know that I would say biblically,

  233. there's no other option at all than

  234. faith in Jesus without baptism.

  235. So maybe you say like,

  236. why should we be baptized?

  237. Well, you could go to what Jesus said

  238. to us, right when he said, go and make

  239. disciples, baptizing them in the name

  240. of the Father, son, the Holy Spirit.

  241. So Jesus said to us, baptize people.

  242. If these people want to be

  243. followers of me, they ought

  244. to be baptized by you church.

  245. So it's a pretty clear mandate, but

  246. probably my favorite answer to the

  247. question, well, why should we be baptized?

  248. I mean, if the thief on the cross

  249. wasn't baptized, why should we?

  250. Well, I'm kind of a dummy and I

  251. like, you know, Jesus did right?

  252. Of all the people who probably

  253. had the exemption to not go ahead

  254. and get baptized, Jesus himself

  255. went through the act of baptism

  256. in submission to the father.

  257. To demonstrate for us that

  258. we too ought to be baptized.

  259. So I think the question really

  260. isn't, why should we be baptized?

  261. It's really why shouldn't we be baptized?

  262. Right?

  263. And if you remember in the book of Acts,

  264. Phillips riding with this Ethiopian

  265. unit guy, and they're riding along the

  266. road and he says, wait, check it out.

  267. There's water.

  268. What, what?

  269. Why shouldn't I be baptized?

  270. What prevents me from being baptized?

  271. And I love that picture.

  272. And I think that ought to

  273. be the picture of those.

  274. Who say, I'm gonna come to faith in Jesus.

  275. Why shouldn't I be baptized?

  276. What prevents me?

  277. What's the reason I shouldn't?

  278. Well, there isn't a reason you shouldn't.

  279. Now, baptism has some different, um,

  280. practices, maybe where your church that

  281. you're a part of, if you're a guest with

  282. us today, you might see some of these.

  283. If, uh, you know, friends who've been

  284. baptized that, uh, are different than a

  285. epic horse trough adventure, you might

  286. be like, why are there differences?

  287. Let me, let me say a couple

  288. quick things on this.

  289. Um, I dunno if you've heard

  290. of this, but there's something

  291. called baptism of the heart.

  292. And if you know anybody in the friends,

  293. uh, or the Quaker denominations of

  294. churches, they don't do the physical

  295. act of baptism because they believe

  296. that baptism is a baptism of the

  297. heart and they don't do communion.

  298. They don't want to get caught up in

  299. some of these external expressions that

  300. become tradition, that become routine,

  301. that lose kind of maybe the heart.

  302. And so I can respect the angle of that.

  303. I'm a big fan of doing baptism,

  304. but there are people who hold the

  305. faith in Jesus Christ and that

  306. Jesus just baptizes our heart.

  307. And so this physical act

  308. doesn't necessarily apply.

  309. There are people who are big on

  310. sprinkling that instead of submersion

  311. in water, that you're sprinkled

  312. with water, and that's a baptism.

  313. Uh, I can't argue that we can go back

  314. to the thief on the cross, right, who

  315. probably didn't get sprinkled at all.

  316. I've also been in some hospital rooms

  317. lately where I couldn't figure out

  318. how to get the horse trough in there.

  319. So I can see a scenario very easily

  320. where somebody says, I want to have

  321. faith in Jesus and confess my sin.

  322. I'd like to be baptized.

  323. And I think there's absolutely a place

  324. where you can do some sprinkling stuff.

  325. I think that's legit.

  326. We also have this issue that shows up

  327. all the time called infant baptism.

  328. And, uh, we at here at White Rock, we

  329. do, um, child dedications where moms and

  330. dads commit themselves and their children

  331. to the Lord and try to follow him.

  332. And, and that ends up being a lot of

  333. what infant baptism kind of looks like.

  334. But in his truest sense, a

  335. lot of places will practice

  336. something called infant baptism.

  337. And there's nothing like evil or bad

  338. or wrong except as we read scripture,

  339. it's pretty clear that everybody

  340. who ever got baptized in scripture.

  341. Amen.

  342. Chose to get baptized in scripture.

  343. And so something we practice here

  344. at White Rock is something called a

  345. believer's baptism, where the person

  346. who's choosing to get baptized actually

  347. makes a conscious profession of faith in

  348. Jesus and chooses that act of baptism.

  349. There's nothing wrong with baptizing

  350. your baby is just that that infant didn't

  351. actually make the choice to become a

  352. follower of Jesus and get baptized.

  353. Uh, it's more of a dedication to the Lord

  354. than it is really their act of submission

  355. and baptism to faith in Jesus Christ.

  356. And so I'm a big proponent we let kids

  357. get baptized, but you gotta be able to

  358. explain why you should be getting baptized

  359. and why you want to get baptized and why

  360. you think you should be baptized because.

  361. You ought to understand, and it doesn't

  362. have to be like deep theological

  363. craziness, but I saw my friend do it.

  364. I want to get in the hot tub.

  365. That's a fun reason, but probably not the

  366. right reason to choose to get baptized.

  367. But if you're old enough to say,

  368. Hey, I've confessed my sin to Jesus.

  369. I want him to be my savior and I

  370. want to get baptized and obedience

  371. to him, you are absolutely at a

  372. place where we'll be happy to baptize

  373. you in the name of the Lord Jesus.

  374. So that's kind of a picture

  375. of what baptism is and how we

  376. reflect on it here together as a

  377. church and how we celebrate it.

  378. And so this morning we are gonna

  379. celebrate some awesome imagery

  380. of raised to life in baptism.

  381. And so, Regina, if I can get, no.

  382. Carly Carly's first.

  383. Where's Carly at?

  384. I need Carly.

  385. If we get Carly up here,

  386. we're gonna let her fire away.

  387. It's gonna be great.

  388. I know you said I want my mom to go first,

  389. then you're like, no, I'm going first.

  390. So why don't Regina and

  391. Carly both come up here?

  392. We'll get a mother daughter duo for

  393. our first victim, or not victim.

  394. Sorry.

  395. Carly.

  396. Carly.

  397. Our first epic baptism

  398. here, this AF this morning.

  399. And while they're coming up here,

  400. I just wanted to share a thing

  401. that we do here at White Rock,

  402. um, which I think is really cool.

  403. It's biblical we see where.

  404. God has told, um, women their children's

  405. names such as Jesus, John the Baptist,

  406. and also where Jesus even changed

  407. Simon's name to Peter to just, um,

  408. declare what his purpose is in life.

  409. So that's something that we do here as we

  410. take names and find Bible verses for that.

  411. Get in there.

  412. Now, Carly, the only thing that's

  413. really important here is don't scream.

  414. 'cause there's little kids and

  415. they'll be like, no, it is cold.

  416. He tricked us.

  417. Didn't trick us.

  418. Alright, well you can have a seat, kiddo.

  419. Young lady.

  420. Sorry.

  421. I always say kiddo, but

  422. I'm at that age, right?

  423. Do you wanna give your

  424. glasses to your mom?

  425. Maybe that might be a

  426. good, good move here.

  427. Alright, well we can see

  428. you and Jesus can see you.

  429. That's what's important, right?

  430. Hey, I'm really proud of Carly

  431. because Carly, I think the word is

  432. like a little social anxiety, right?

  433. Like not so fun.

  434. And Carly was hoping to

  435. get a secret baptism in.

  436. But you know what's really cool

  437. is baptism is a public confession

  438. of faith in Christ, right?

  439. And so I'm really proud of you for

  440. saying, Hey, I wanna get baptized.

  441. She did also mention, I'm going first so

  442. I can run out the door as fast as I can.

  443. So that's another angle,

  444. but super, super cool.

  445. So I think I'll just use

  446. this as much as I can.

  447. So we'll try.

  448. Yeah, that's great.

  449. Alright, so Carly, you've asked Jesus

  450. to be your Lord and Savior, confess

  451. your sin to him and you want to be

  452. baptized today in obedience to him.

  453. Is that correct?

  454. Yes.

  455. Alright.

  456. Is there anything that you

  457. would like to share or say?

  458. Okay.

  459. Alright, we'll plug your nose 'cause

  460. this day Carly, we baptize you.

  461. In the name of the Father and

  462. the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  463. We

  464. the Lord God.

  465. Alright, we're gonna pray just a

  466. moment of prayer blessing here.

  467. Just, we just wanna pray a prayer

  468. of blessing over Carly and God.

  469. This is a huge moment, a wonderful

  470. moment, a spectacular moment where.

  471. She has made a decision to follow you

  472. and willingly stepped into this trough

  473. in front of this church to proclaim that

  474. loud and clear of who she's following.

  475. So God, please bless her

  476. journey along the way.

  477. The bumps, the hiccups.

  478. The hard moments, the great moments.

  479. I pray that she would always seek

  480. you first, and we pray this in

  481. Jesus's awesome and powerful name.

  482. Amen.

  483. Amen.

  484. Amen.

  485. Good job,

  486. right that way.

  487. And as for Carly's name,

  488. her name is Carly Rochelle.

  489. Carly means free man.

  490. Rochelle means sheep.

  491. Her bible verses I'm a good shepherd.

  492. I know my sheep and my sheep know me.

  493. Just as the father knows me

  494. and I know the father and I

  495. lay down my life for the sheep.

  496. That's nice.

  497. Thank you.

  498. And you can wait to pick up those

  499. plaques when your hands are dry.

  500. Don't worry.

  501. Alright, get this over there.

  502. Ann does.

  503. Happy anniversary to you and Willie man.

  504. He wouldn't get a hot tub for you,

  505. but he got you a baptism trough.

  506. All right.

  507. Alright.

  508. That's a special thing to get to

  509. do a baptism with your daughter.

  510. That's pretty cool stuff.

  511. That's really cool stuff.

  512. Alright.

  513. Well, Regina, you've asked Jesus

  514. to be your Lord and Savior.

  515. You've confessed your sin and want

  516. to have this moment here of obedience

  517. being baptized today in his name.

  518. Is that correct?

  519. Okay.

  520. Do you have anything that you

  521. would like to say or share

  522. to keep them?

  523. Yeah.

  524. Oh, he loves you.

  525. That's right.

  526. That's right.

  527. All right, well, Regina, hug your nose

  528. and we're gonna get ready this day.

  529. We baptize you in the name of the

  530. Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  531. Well, Regina, we're gonna pray a

  532. blessing over you, so let's pray.

  533. Lord God in heaven.

  534. Thank you for this day.

  535. Thank you for this day

  536. that Regina has chosen you.

  537. She has chosen Jesus Christ.

  538. She's baptized be the Father,

  539. the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  540. And this day she's born new.

  541. And although this just be a, a

  542. public display, a symbolic moment.

  543. We praise you for the eternal change in

  544. her heart as she's chosen to follow you.

  545. Yes.

  546. Thank you, Jesus Christ, for what you

  547. have done and given her someone to follow

  548. who loves and gives and is so great.

  549. It is in your amazing name that

  550. we pray a blessing over her.

  551. Thank you Jesus.

  552. Amen.

  553. Amen.

  554. Amen.

  555. Great job.

  556. And they need some extra help.

  557. Oh yeah.

  558. We got no worries.

  559. That's why I brought Josh up here.

  560. And Regina's name is Regina Michelle.

  561. Regina means queen, and Michelle

  562. means who is like God, you will be a

  563. crown of splendor in the Lord's hand.

  564. A royal diod Dem diadem.

  565. Sorry, I looked that up and it

  566. was in the hand of your God.

  567. Isaiah 62, 3.

  568. Right.

  569. Very cool.

  570. Very cool.

  571. Alright, Tony, you guys

  572. wanna sneak up here?

  573. You can.

  574. And Isabella.

  575. Isabella.

  576. Ah, see I had the a and then

  577. I dropped it at the end.

  578. My bad.

  579. Alright, Isabella, you should hear the

  580. poor girls in my, uh, high school classes.

  581. I had just mixed their names up.

  582. Just for fun.

  583. You.

  584. Sorry ladies.

  585. Alright Tony, we're gonna

  586. get you in here first man.

  587. And then, uh, let the husband

  588. lead the way in this fund.

  589. All right, we'll scooch up

  590. here just a little bit here.

  591. This guy, this guy's pretty special to me.

  592. Yeah, we have a list, but

  593. I'm gonna lose track of it.

  594. That's so you guys jump in

  595. when you're supposed to, so

  596. that's where he ran off you?

  597. Yeah.

  598. Yeah, yeah.

  599. So, uh, Tony made the mistake of

  600. showing up on a men's retreat last year.

  601. Right.

  602. And then ever since you just can't find

  603. a good excuse not to get out of here.

  604. So we're pretty excited that you're a

  605. part of this crazy adventure, my friend.

  606. Alright.

  607. You've asked Jesus to be your Lord and

  608. Savior, confess your sin to him and want

  609. to be baptized today in obedience to him.

  610. Is that correct?

  611. Yes.

  612. Do you have anything that

  613. you'd like to say or share?

  614. No.

  615. Okay.

  616. Alright, well plug your nose, man.

  617. 'cause Here we go, Tony.

  618. This day we baptize you in the name of the

  619. Father and the son and the Holy Spirit.

  620. Heavenly Father, heavenly Father,

  621. we just lift Tony up to you.

  622. We thank you for who he is.

  623. We thank you for him stepping out

  624. into this, this crazy spot in front

  625. of everybody, God, and we just ask

  626. you to bless his, bless his hands.

  627. He puts everything to God and all

  628. his influence and everything he does.

  629. May he bring glory to you

  630. and Jesus as he walks.

  631. Please hold him close, holy Spirit, guide

  632. him to a deeper relationship with with

  633. God the Father through Jesus Christ.

  634. We, I thank you for who he is.

  635. I thank you for what he is to his

  639. Amen.

  640. Amen.

  641. Get out

  642. and Tony's whole name is Anthony,

  643. which means praise worthy.

  644. We will not hide them

  645. from their descendants.

  646. We will tell the next generation

  647. the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord

  648. his power, the wonders he has done.

  649. Psalm 78, 4.

  650. Awesome.

  651. Awesome.

  652. Alright, well have you scoot

  653. up just a little bit here.

  654. Thanks.

  655. I didn't say kiddo that time.

  656. I fought the urge dating myself.

  657. Alright, well, Isabella,

  658. it's really special to get.

  659. This moment here with you and

  660. your husband both making a public

  661. profession of faith in Jesus.

  662. It's really, really special and

  663. we're excited and honored that you

  664. would choose to do that here today.

  665. You've asked Jesus to be your Lord and

  666. Savior, confess your sin to him and wanna

  667. be baptized today in obedience to him.

  668. Is that correct?

  669. Yes.

  670. Do you have anything that

  671. you'd like to say or share?

  672. No.

  673. Alright, well plug your nose.

  674. Here we go, Isabella.

  675. This day we baptize you

  676. in the name of the father.

  677. And the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  678. Dear Heavenly Father,

  679. thank you for Isabella.

  680. Thank you for who she is in

  681. our, in our family's life.

  682. Thank you for her willingness to

  683. step into this church family with

  684. her husband, and just go all in.

  685. God, I thank you for her heart.

  686. I ask you to bless it and protect

  687. everything she does, God and.

  688. Everything she puts her

  689. hands to as in her vocation.

  690. God, I just ask that people feel the

  691. love of Jesus Christ, that she tends to

  692. them and cares for them, and God, just

  693. please bless her, bless everything she

  694. puts her hands to, and Holy Spirit just

  695. guide her into a deep relationship with

  696. God the Father, through Jesus Christ.

  697. In your name we pray, amen.

  698. Amen.

  699. Amen.

  700. Amen.

  701. And Isabella's name means devoted to God.

  702. Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted

  703. to his, to the Lord God, to walk in his

  704. statutes and to keep his commandments,

  705. as at this day, one Kings 8 61.

  706. Awesome.

  707. Awesome.

  708. Alright.

  709. I'm, I very rarely get to say a thing

  710. during these things unless it's one of

  711. my kids and they're pretty much done.

  712. Uh, at any rate, the first thing

  713. these two said to me when I walked

  714. in and greeted them this morning was.

  715. We get to get baptized today and

  716. you just bless this old man's heart.

  717. Amen.

  718. Amen.

  719. That's good.

  720. That's good stuff.

  721. Alright, so Josh, I'm

  722. gonna pull you back in.

  723. We got a couple teens that we're

  724. gonna do some baptism force.

  725. So Elizabeth, if you wanna grab your

  726. mom and sneak up this direction and.

  727. Did you wear like baptism boots today?

  728. I love that.

  729. That's, I love it.

  730. I love it.

  731. That's great.

  732. Alright, Cannonball.

  733. No cannonballs?

  734. No.

  735. Okay.

  736. No cannonballs.

  737. Come on Josh.

  738. Alright, we're gonna get you in here.

  739. I'll have you scoot up

  740. this way just a little bit.

  741. All right.

  742. So Josh is gonna lead this

  743. and I'm just the helper.

  744. Uh, and we'll get your mom right

  745. over here too, beside Josh if

  746. you want to, so you can get close

  747. enough to be part of the fun.

  748. Maybe we'll get you in the splash zone.

  749. How about that?

  750. Oh, sorry.

  751. Sorry.

  752. Now for the record, I just wanna

  753. go on record as saying Elizabeth

  754. has been asking the longest

  755. for us to do a baptism service.

  756. Great job, Elizabeth.

  757. We appreciate you doing that

  758. young lady and staying after it.

  759. It's really great.

  760. And your mom said she couldn't be

  761. guaranteed to pull you back up,

  762. so she's just kind of observing.

  763. No, that's not true at all.

  764. Not true at all.

  765. Well, this is really special

  766. and we're really honored that

  767. you would choose baptism today.

  768. So I'm gonna hand it to Josh and

  769. let him lead the charge here.

  770. Hi sweetheart.

  771. Well, I can't help but sit here and

  772. look at you and having been with

  773. you for oh, a year and a half and

  774. seeing the things you've done and the

  775. things you've chose, be proud of you.

  776. What a huge moment where you've

  777. declared it in front of this

  778. whole church, what you're about.

  779. Well done.

  780. But I got, uh, I got a question for you.

  781. So you're telling me that you've

  782. chosen Jesus Christ, you've asked

  783. him to forgive your sins and you

  784. wanna be baptized here today.

  785. Is there anything else

  786. you wanna tell the church?

  787. That's good.

  788. Well, alright.

  789. Well you're gonna plug your

  790. nose and, and we baptize you.

  791. And the name of the father,

  792. the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  793. Well, you know, we're gonna pray

  794. over you, Lord God in heaven.

  795. What an amazing moment.

  796. Another.

  797. Another person, another

  798. child of yours has chosen you

  799. and this symbolic display.

  800. Symbolic yes, but important

  801. and huge and pivotal tattoo.

  802. God, we thank you for the

  803. choice that Elizabeth has made.

  804. We thank you that you gave her such a rock

  805. to hold onto that it became clear in her

  806. heart that you were the one to follow.

  807. God, you are so good.

  808. God, we pray that you continue to

  809. be good in her life, that she would

  810. look to you for answers, for comfort,

  811. for joy till the end of her days.

  812. Thank you, God.

  813. Thank you, Jesus, and it's

  814. your amazing name that we pray.

  815. Amen.

  816. Amen.

  817. Good job.

  818. And for Elizabeth, I didn't know it

  819. was this Elizabeth, but I was super

  820. excited when I found out it was

  821. Elizabeth means God is abundance and

  822. her middle name is grace, divine grace.

  823. Grace and peace be your abundance

  824. through the knowledge of God

  825. in of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  826. Second Peter, one, two.

  827. Awesome, awesome.

  828. All right.

  829. Well Riley, we're gonna get you up

  830. here kiddo, and uh, Abby is gonna sneak

  831. up and join you and I'm gonna step

  832. outta here, Josh, so you can have the,

  833. either way you can.

  834. Yeah, it's you and you and Abby.

  835. No, you're good.

  836. Wherever you want to.

  837. So, lemme say something real quick

  838. while you guys are getting situated.

  839. Um.

  840. Something that's important in baptism,

  841. uh, obviously is that people who are

  842. baptizing you have been baptized in

  843. faith in Jesus Christ themselves.

  844. And, uh, it's pretty cool to have

  845. a Christian friend who's kind of

  846. like poked you and prodigy and

  847. loved you like Abby has, right?

  848. And so, uh, RI asked if, if Abby, uh,

  849. could, could help in this baptism.

  850. We were gonna let all the teens do

  851. it, but then there was no way you're

  852. getting back outta that water.

  853. You know what I mean?

  854. So I think this is as, this is

  855. as safe as we could agree on.

  856. So, no, go ahead Josh.

  857. It's all yours.

  858. Well, Riley, I, uh, I was sitting in the,

  859. the chair over there just considering the

  860. young lady that you are and the things

  861. that I've literally seen from you, right?

  862. The fruit, the choices you're making,

  863. whether it be reading scripture or.

  864. Showing up consistently time and time

  865. again where you're proven that you

  866. really are fighting to walk the walk.

  867. So I'm proud of you, but just like

  868. always got a question for you.

  869. So, you're here today because you've

  870. chosen Jesus Christ as your savior and

  871. that he has atones you of all your sins.

  872. Is that true?

  873. Yeah.

  874. Awesome.

  875. Now, is there anything you want

  876. to share with this, this crowd,

  877. this group of family and friends?

  878. No nothing.

  879. Alright, well you're gonna plug

  880. your nose and I just want you to

  881. know, and you put your hand right

  882. here in the back of her head.

  883. Yep.

  884. We baptize you in the name of the

  885. father, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

  886. Woo.

  887. All right, well, we're gonna pray for

  888. you, Lord God, thank you for this young

  889. woman who has chosen you in front of all

  890. to sea because she knows you are truth.

  891. You are love.

  892. You are life.

  893. God, I pray that you are with her

  894. day after day as she continues to

  895. make decisions every single day.

  896. Lord, God bless those decisions,

  897. encourage her, guide her, and comfort her.

  898. Thank you Jesus Christ

  899. for this young lady.

  900. And that's in Jesus' name that we pray.

  901. Amen.

  902. Amen.

  903. And I'm sure it's no secret.

  904. I love this girl with all my heart.

  905. RI means courageous, which there's no

  906. word I think that can describe her better

  907. beyond your guard stand firm in the faith.

  908. Be courageous, be strong,

  909. do everything in love.

  910. One Corinthians 16, 13 through 14.

  911. I'm on, sorry.

  912. Alright, so now, uh, we got some

  913. kids who've made a decision to

  914. follow Jesus and want to get

  915. baptized and we're super excited.

  916. About that.

  917. And so Ben Distler, one of our

  918. Sunday school team leaders is

  919. gonna join Tom, pastor Tom, and

  920. you guys are gonna have the floor.

  921. So maybe I'll get you on that

  922. side and give you the mic around.

  923. All right.

  924. Let's have Gideon Dunder come on up.

  925. Oh wait, sorry.

  926. You want your brother go first.

  927. Sorry.

  928. Older brother first.

  929. Zeke, come on up.

  930. My fault.

  931. Have they got towels?

  932. Yeah.

  933. Yeah.

  934. Here.

  935. Where's your towel?

  936. Zeke,

  937. my man?

  938. Sit on your butt.

  939. Sit on your butt.

  940. There you go.

  941. All right.

  942. I am gonna use your full name, Ezekiel.

  943. All right.

  944. You ready to be baptized?

  945. So from what we understand, you've

  946. asked Jesus Christ as your Lord and

  947. Savior to dwell in your heart and asked

  948. him, forgive you all of your sins,

  949. forgive you, believe he's died, and rose

  950. from the dead and ascended to heaven.

  951. All right.

  952. Is there anything you wanna say?

  953. My man,

  954. Jesus is all we have.

  955. Jesus is all cap.

  956. All right.

  957. All we have, all we have.

  958. Sorry, I'm getting deaf.

  959. Old man.

  960. Thank you.

  961. Thank you, rusty.

  962. All right.

  963. Well, Zeke's a good dude.

  964. He's got a heart for what's right

  965. and that's why he loves the Lord.

  966. And uh, I'm excited to see you continue

  967. your life living for Jesus, my man.

  968. All right, we'll, we'll baptize

  969. you in the name of the Father,

  970. son, and the Holy Spirit.

  971. Go ahead and plug your nose, my man.

  972. Dear Jesus, thank you for Ezekiel.

  973. Thank you for his willingness to

  974. step out, out, out in the light

  975. and make his public declaration.

  976. As for As with you, as His Lord and

  977. Savior, God thank you for, for everything

  978. He is in this ministry that we have.

  979. I thank you for his.

  980. Influence and his leadership

  981. to all the other kids.

  982. God has just asked you to bless him,

  983. bless his life, bless everything

  984. He puts his hand and heart to help

  985. his mind just continue to grow

  986. in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  987. Holy Spirit, please strengthen his

  988. and deepen his relationship with God

  989. the Father, through Jesus Christ.

  990. We thank you for who he is.

  991. In Jesus name we pray.

  992. Amen.

  993. Amen.

  994. And for these next two boys, I feel

  995. like their parents named them perfectly.

  996. Ezekiel means strength of God.

  997. Finally be strong in the Lord

  998. and in the strength of his might.

  999. Ephesians six 10.

1000. All right, let's get Gideon up.

  1001. Alright.

1002. You wanna try getting on your

1003. knees so maybe people can see you?

  1004. Just sit there.

1005. He's in there, we promise.

1006. And his head is above water.

  1007. All right.

1008. All right, Gideon, I love you man.

  1009. I appreciate what you've done.

  1010. Get in.

  1011. You've accepted Jesus Christ

1012. as your Lord and Savior.

1013. And ask him to forgive you all your

1014. sins and you believe he has died.

1015. He laid his life down, raised himself

1016. up from the dead and ascended to

1017. the right hand of God on this day.

  1018. Would you, is there

  1019. anything you wanna say?

  1020. My man?

  1021. Alright.

1022. On this day, we baptize you in the name

1023. of the Father, son, and the Holy Spirit.

1024. Go ahead and plug your nose

  1025. dear Jesus.

  1026. Thank you for Gideon.

1027. Thank you for his heart.

1028. God, thank you for his passion.

1029. I know he loves you.

1030. God, I know how deeply he loves you.

1031. I thank you for everything he is in our

1032. ministry, uh, the influence he has and

1033. all this younger generation coming up.

1034. God, I ask you to bless everything He

1035. does, everything He puts his hands to God.

1036. Thank, bless his heart and his mind.

1037. Help him seek a deeper

  1038. relationship with you.

  1039. Thank you.

  1040. Holy Spirit.

1041. Please guide him into a strong

1042. relationship with God the Father, through

1043. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

  1044. Whom we pray.

  1045. Amen.

  1046. Amen.

  1047. And another perfect name.

  1048. Gideon means Mighty warrior.

1049. And he is, um, when the angel

1050. of the Lord appeared to Gideon,

1051. he said the Lord is with you.

1052. Mighty Warrior Judges six 12.

  1053. Awesome.

  1054. Awesome.

1055. All right, where's Sean at?

1056. Hey, you wanna bring Braden up

1057. this direction and we'll get.

1058. We will get you guys up here and Braden

1059. said, can I please be the grand finale?

  1060. Not really.

1061. Not really, but buddy, you get

1062. to be the grand finale, my man.

1063. Get your dad in there

1064. and we got extra towels.

  1065. We're good.

  1066. Yeah.

  1067. Alright, Sean, I'll get

1068. you on the hug side.

  1069. That's a, that's a better option for me.

  1070. I'm just, alright, let's scooch

1071. you up this way, buddy, and we'll

1072. have you hop up on your knees,

1073. that way your mom can see you.

  1074. There we go.

1075. We gotta make this photo off.

  1076. Good.

  1077. Love it.

  1078. Alright.

  1079. Alright.

1080. I'll give it you in a second here.

  1081. Alright, well, Braden,

1082. this is kind of special.

1083. I remember being here not too long ago

1084. with your big sister and her choice

1085. to get baptized into faith in Jesus.

1086. And God's been doing lots of cool things

1087. in your house and got to hang out with

1088. your mom and dad at marriage retreat

1089. last weekend and we found some dead fish.

  1090. I think.

1091. So there's no dead fish in this right.

  1092. Okay.

1093. We cleaned them all out, so we're good.

  1094. We're good.

  1095. Alright buddy.

1096. Well, this is a pretty exciting

1097. thing and we're really proud

1098. of you and your choices.

1099. So let me ask you the

1100. big question of the day.

1101. You've asked Jesus to be your

1102. Lord and Savior and confess your

1103. sin to him, and you want to be

1104. baptized today in obedience to him.

  1105. Is that correct?

  1106. Yes.

1107. And do you have anything

  1108. you'd like to share?

1109. Alright, well I'm gonna hand

1110. this to Pastor Rusty a second

1111. so I don't dip in the water.

1112. Oh, Braden, this day we baptize

1113. you in the name of the Father

1114. and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

1115. Go and plug your nose.

  1116. Dear Lord.

1117. Thank you for for Braden.

  1118. You always know.

1119. You always know what we

1120. need, not what we want.

1121. And just thank you for Braden's

1122. energy and his, his heart.

1123. Um, he's, he's one of the sweetest

  1124. boys I've ever, I've ever known.

1125. And just hopefully this will be the

1126. next step and to, to honor you and

1127. use that heart for, for everything

1128. that you have envisioned for him.

1129. And just thank you so much for this day.

  1130. In Jesus name, amen.

1131. And as for Braden, Braden means salmon.

1132. And so his Bible verse

  1133. says, come follow me.

1134. Jesus said, I will send

1135. you out to fish for people.

  1136. Mark one 17.

  1137. Sean, was that intentional?

  1138. Did you know that?

  1139. The salmon thing.

  1140. Okay.

  1141. Okay.

1142. I say, man, if that was a

1143. moment, and Ava meant bird.

  1144. Yeah, I love it.

  1145. Bird and fish.

  1146. I love it.

  1147. I love it.

  1148. That's awesome.

1149. Hey, how about a big round of applause for

1150. all of our people who are baptized today?

  1151. Way to go

1152. super, super proud of your public

1153. confession to faith in Jesus

1154. and want you to know that, uh,

1155. doesn't mean that perfection is

1156. all you got to look forward to.

  1157. We're real people walking

  1158. in this crazy life.

1159. But Jesus will walk with you every

1160. moment of everything that you face.

1161. And as we talked about this morning in the

1162. big kids church here, fixing our eyes on

1163. Jesus on that journey changes everything.

1164. Well, I'm gonna pray for us and, uh,

1165. we'll, we'll, uh, I was gonna try to get

1166. our baptized folks out into the entryway

1167. first if we can, so people can greet 'em.

1168. But maybe getting that look from Jamie,

1169. like, I got a bad choice coming up.

1170. Do you have something to.

1171. I think that's the right thing to do.

1172. I think that's the right thing to do too.

1173. Okay, so I tell you what, before I

1174. pray, if you got a towel and you're

1175. soaking wet, so we'll be able to tell.

1176. If you're sneaking out, would you

1177. please make your way towards the back

1178. so the people can at least fist bump

1179. you and say, great job on the way out.

1180. Now who would've thought that the

1181. people who got baptized would feel

1182. cooler than everybody else for

1183. the day in this hot box today?

  1184. It's crazy.

1185. Well, hey, thank you for being

1186. a part of this celebration.

1187. It's pretty fun to gather together

1188. in this place and celebrate what

1189. Jesus is doing in our lives.

1190. And even though the world may

1191. have wars and rumors of wars,

1192. and your house might have.

1193. Man wars and rumors of wars, and you're

1194. navigating all kinds of stuff, man.

1195. Jesus is on the throne, and this

1196. is the stuff that really matters.

1197. We'll keep our eyes fixed on

1198. this truth and this eternity,

  1199. and it changes everything.

  1200. So let's pray.

1201. Father, thank you so much that we

1202. can come to you, that we can confess

1203. our sin, that you'll cleanse us of

1204. our sin and unrighteousness, and

1205. that you make us clean before you.

1206. Thank you for this special symbolic act

1207. of baptism that you took part in and your

1208. disciples took part in, and disciples

1209. for generations have taken part in.

1210. And thank you for each of the

1211. folks today who made this public

1212. profession of their faith through

1213. this symbolic act of baptism.

  1214. We celebrate that together.

1215. And God, I pray that you would bless and

1216. keep them, that you would watch over them.

1217. That you would watch as they come, as they

1218. go, as they face decisions and forks in

1219. the road, and challenges and adversity and

1220. joys and excitement, that everything that

1221. they face, Lord, that you would be ever

1222. present in their heart and in their mind,

1223. and that your spirit would lead them.

1224. And God, I pray that for all of us

1225. that we would walk from this place

1226. in love and really be your hands

1227. and feet to the people around us.

1228. Thank you so much for the

  1229. incredible celebration today.

  1230. In Jesus name.

  1231. Amen.
