  1. Hey, last Sunday was awesome.

  2. We had an amazing time together,

  3. a couple different services.

  4. I think our second service was

  5. bigger than our first service.

  6. They were both full of people

  7. worshiping and celebrating.

  8. And I did get into a ton of trouble

  9. though because I didn't use.

  10. My iconic

  11. tomb clip, right?

  12. So It's not exactly biblical how

  13. it played out as as an angel.

  14. I don't have the angel that goes flying

  15. off the stone when it explodes, you know,

  16. metaphorically or symbolically.

  17. Jesus triumphed over the grave.

  18. He is alive.

  19. And that is epic stuff.

  20. Two weeks ago, no, I guess three Sundays

  21. ago we did a little Palm Sunday action.

  22. You remember that?

  23. You guys all put five fingers up.

  24. We did Palm Sunday and

  25. you asked for five points.

  26. It was beautiful.

  27. And then at Easter last Sunday,

  28. you guys did the same thing.

  29. That was fantastic.

  30. So if you got your sandals on, let's

  31. put those toes up really quick.

  32. I'm just gonna give you a five point

  33. recap really fast of where we are at.

  34. Jesus is alive.

  35. Yeah, I was joking.

  36. Let's put those sandals back on.

  37. Uh, Jesus died.

  38. Jesus is alive.

  39. He is not hanging out.

  40. Here he is ascended at the right hand

  41. of God, interceding for us, and he's

  42. gonna come back and we are on a mission.

  43. Didn't like shut that down and do not.

  44. That's all right.

  45. That's all right.

  46. Don't, Nope.

  47. Just come here, Dax.

  48. Act it out.

  49. Yeah, I need you to act out.

  50. It's basically, okay, so

  51. here's what it was like.

  52. Last Sunday was Easter.

  53. Jesus was on the cross, and

  54. then he died and he rose again.

  55. I don't really know what you're

  56. doing, bro, but I tell you

  57. what, just use your shirt.

  58. Just use your shirt, basically.

  59. I mean, it's not quite as good

  60. as the video, but basically

  61. this is the video in a nutshell.

  62. Oh my goodness.

  63. It's the last weekend of spring break.

  64. Can you tell around here?

  65. I don't know what's going on.

  66. Big round.

  67. Applause for Dex.

  68. Yeah, doing Dex.

  69. Thanks, Dex.

  70. Okay, well, hey, you know what?

  71. That's cool.

  72. No, I'm, I'm gonna deal with it.

  73. There's not a whole lot else to do.

  74. So, and anyways, at the end of this

  75. video that basically says, Hey, Jesus

  76. is gone, and now we're on mission.

  77. It ends with Matthew chapter

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  78. 28, the Great Commission, and

  79. that's what we're gonna pick up.

  80. So grab over, uh, in

  81. your Bibles, Matthew 28.

  82. Therefore, go and make

  83. disciples of all nations.

  84. We're gonna pick up right there.

  85. Far less cool than it was gonna

  86. be, but still pretty cool because

  87. Jesus, when he leaves, he gives us

  88. this mission that He calls us to,

  89. to be His people who are disciples.

  90. Making disciples.

  91. Making disciples.

  92. Matthew 28, 19 through 20.

  93. The Great Commission.

  94. I don't know if you're familiar with

  95. like the military concept of like the

  96. last order given, but in a military

  97. situation, you continue to operate based

  98. on the last order that you were given.

  99. And when Jesus ascends to heaven, this is

  100. what he says to his disciples right here.

  101. Therefore, go and make disciples

  102. of all Nations, baptizing them in

  103. the name of the Father and the son.

  104. And the Holy Spirit and teaching them

  105. to obey everything I have commanded you,

  106. and surely I'm with you always to the

  107. very end of the age, super important

  108. commission that Jesus gives his disciples

  109. and what we're supposed to be doing.

  110. Sometimes people are like, I don't

  111. really know what God's will is or what

  112. I'm supposed to be doing with my life.

  113. Hey, follower of Jesus, this

  114. is what you're supposed to

  115. be doing with your life.

  116. This is what Jesus handed to us.

  117. ENTRUSTED to us, as scripture says,

  118. faithful men who entrusted it to faithful

  119. men who entrusted it to faithful men.

  120. And he handed it to his 12 disciples

  121. who handed it then to their disciples,

  122. who were really disciples of Jesus,

  123. who followed their teaching, and

  124. ultimately all the way down to

  125. Noblesville 2026 where we're supposed to.

  126. This mission to go and make disciples.

  127. I love this word.

  128. Therefore, therefore means, uh,

  129. because of this, in light of this

  130. reality, go and make disciples.

  131. Well, in light of what reality.

  132. Well go back one verse.

  133. Go back one verse verse 18.

  134. Jesus has all a. All authority, right?

  135. Because of what he's done on the cross

  136. and what he's done in kicking open the

  137. tomb and trampling over death forever.

  138. He is the reigning king of kings

  139. and Lord of Lords, the one to which

  140. everyone will kneel and recognize his

  141. lordship, right bowing before him,

  142. acknowledging that he is the Son of God.

  143. The Lord of Lord, and king of

  144. kings, and he has all the authority.

  145. Because of this reality, because

  146. of him triumphing over sin and

  147. death, we should therefore go and

  148. make disciples, go make disciples.

  149. This word go is an interesting one

  150. because it means to leave or depart

  151. right to, to go and make disciples.

  152. It's really where our early

  153. missionary movements came from

  154. in the evangelical churches of.

  155. We're supposed to go, we're not

  156. supposed to stay here, right?

  157. This call to move from one place

  158. to another, making disciples,

  159. we see it in the early church.

  160. They're supposed to start in Jerusalem,

  161. and they were all huddled together,

  162. hanging out, and then persecution broke

  163. out and they went to Judea and Samaria

  164. and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

  165. And God used that to spread

  166. the message and the mission

  167. of going and making disciples.

  168. Right?

  169. And I do think there's a legit call to go.

  170. Make disciples to leave where

  171. you're at and go make disciples.

  172. If all around you, all you have are

  173. disciples, then some of your disciples

  174. need to go and make some more disciples

  175. and make some more disciples, and

  176. make some more disciples so that

  177. we can reach everybody with this

  178. good news of the gospel of Jesus.

  179. It's part of why we

  180. fund mission movements.

  181. It's part of why sometimes you go in a

  182. church plant and you go do something.

  183. Now, I'm not calling us all to that

  184. today, but don't lose sight of this

  185. mission that God has called us on.

  186. Is one to go have an impact.

  187. Right?

  188. And I think, I like to think of this word

  189. go even in this context that everywhere

  190. you, and you're not supposed to use

  191. this, I know to define a word, right?

  192. To, don't use the word to define

  193. a word, but everywhere you go

  194. you should be making disciples.

  195. Because I like to think of it

  196. less about picking up and moving

  197. and going to a foreign country.

  198. In fact, we used to be part of a

  199. denomination that, um, they had

  200. a policy in their mission board.

  201. If you weren't.

  202. Sharing the gospel and making

  203. disciples where you were at,

  204. they would not commission you

  205. to go to some other country.

  206. 'cause all that becomes is a really

  207. neat experience for you to go

  208. somewhere else and get a vacation or

  209. get a new life or try some adventure.

  210. They wanted to find disciple makers

  211. who would go and make disciples and

  212. so they would not commission people

  213. to go who weren't already disciple

  214. makers, right where they're at.

  215. And see, I think that's part of the

  216. call here for us, is that everywhere

  217. we go, not just go, not just wander

  218. and make disciples, but everywhere

  219. that you go, you should be making

  220. disciples every gas station stop.

  221. Right?

  222. That's why my dad hates

  223. those little cards.

  224. He's gotta go in and annoy the

  225. cashier for a while in the hopes

  226. that maybe they can talk about Jesus.

  227. Right?

  228. It's a good thing.

  229. We need to have a mindset that when we're

  230. in the grocery store or when we're, I

  231. don't, not in the car, that doesn't count

  232. driving on 4, 6, 5, but like everywhere we

  233. go, we're supposed to be pointing people

  234. to this God who loves them, the Savior who

  235. paid the price for them forever, right?

  236. We're supposed to be making

  237. disciples everywhere we go.

  238. The McDonald's drive through is a

  239. disciple making location, right?

  240. The ball field.

  241. We get out in a sport venue and we're

  242. busy yelling and screaming at the enemy

  243. team instead of remembering that Jesus

  244. has this position sometimes right where

  245. we're at to be making disciples, right?

  246. And as followers of Jesus, we gotta

  247. have a mindset that everywhere I

  248. go, I should be making disciples.

  249. Not that eventually if I go somewhere.

  250. Far off.

  251. I become a disciple maker.

  252. Now we gotta be making

  253. disciples right now.

  254. Go and make disciples.

  255. And I think it's worth chatting

  256. about this idea of making disciples.

  257. 'cause sometimes I don't think we

  258. always get what a disciple is, right?

  259. A disciple is really a follower, right?

  260. Someone who genuinely is following, right?

  261. In fact, we would say probably a

  262. devoted follower is what a disciple is.

  263. Someone who is committed.

  264. In our, uh, practicing the Way

  265. series did, like maybe that's

  266. been two years, I don't even know.

  267. But we talked about the idea

  268. of apprenticeship, right?

  269. That as a follower of Jesus as a

  270. disciple, we're really to be apprentices

  271. who follow what he's doing, who mimic

  272. what he's doing, who learn from the

  273. master builder, and then begin to do

  274. some building ourself in trying to

  275. create disciples around us, right?

  276. Jesus calls us to be followers of him.

  277. Just people who know about him,

  278. but people who legitimately, who

  279. are devoted followers of Jesus.

  280. So I thought about like one of those

  281. really annoying pastor questions and

  282. I was gonna ask it to you like this.

  283. Are you making disciples?

  284. 'cause if we're not making

  285. disciples, we're not really

  286. doing what Jesus told us to do.

  287. We're supposed to be going

  288. and making disciples, right?

  289. And so.

  290. If the answer to the question is no,

  291. that's probably a problem for us, right?

  292. Because we're supposed

  293. to be making disciples.

  294. Like that's the one thing I can tell

  295. you that I know your job is, well,

  296. you know, I don't have the gift of,

  297. well, I don't really care about that.

  298. It's not about what gift you have.

  299. This is about the commission from Jesus

  300. to say, Hey, listen, go make disciples.

  301. Right.

  302. I also want to answer this question

  303. with a far nastier, meaner pastor move.

  304. Are you ready?

  305. I'm just getting out in front of it.

  306. It's like a spring break week.

  307. We're all kind of coming back from

  308. the Easter hangover of sugar and

  309. Reese's eggs, so I'm trying to be nice.

  310. But here's the truth, guys.

  311. You are making disciples.

  312. Every single person in this room is

  313. making disciples every single day you are.

  314. Reproducing who you are

  315. and the people around you.

  316. You are modeling what it looks

  317. like to follow money, to follow

  318. sports, making little cults,

  319. disciples of the Indianapolis cults.

  320. We're making disciples of fame and

  321. fortune and social media status.

  322. We're making disciples of money.

  323. We're making disciples of cars and of

  324. houses of people who are all about that.

  325. You, we are always making disciples.

  326. Don't lose this mindset.

  327. We think, well, we choose to

  328. make, no, your kids right now,

  329. parents, you're discipling them.

  330. Just the question is, what are

  331. you discipling 'em to love?

  332. What is the idol that they're worshiping?

  333. What is the god of their life?

  334. 'cause they're watching you and what

  335. you're doing and how you're living

  336. and the priorities of your life.

  337. I mean, it's one of the crazy things I

  338. always challenge people about sports and,

  339. and church or about leisure and church.

  340. Church is super fun and there's

  341. really great preaching at White Rock.

  342. I just, I know that's a reality for

  343. all of us, but if we could get beyond

  344. that part of it, here's the reality.

  345. We prioritize this one tiny little hour

  346. and a half block out of an entire week

  347. to say, Jesus, you're the most important.

  348. And when we don't do that and

  349. something else gets to take its

  350. place, that is a powerful message.

  351. Parents, we send to our kids and people

  352. we send to our own hearts to say.

  353. Eh, what's on equal

  354. status with this space?

  355. Now, I'm not some legalistic

  356. jerk who's like, Hey, don't miss

  357. a Sunday, or You're gonna burn.

  358. But the truth is, if this isn't

  359. important, what else is more important?

  360. What else should be the thing that you

  361. are training and teaching people to love

  362. and chase after, and to be loyal to and

  363. committed to, besides gathering with the

  364. body of Christ to worship the eternal God?

  365. That's a tough one for me to, to

  366. sort of like, I'm a gracious guy.

  367. I'm not trying to be a jerk this morning.

  368. I'm just saying, and you're here, right?

  369. So I'm not calling, I'm not

  370. talking about you guys obviously.

  371. Right.

  372. Sometimes that's right.

  373. But the truth is this how

  374. you live, you are discipling.

  375. And if we could get that through our

  376. heads, it might actually affect how we

  377. live because we're modeling and we're

  378. teaching and we're pointing every single

  379. day with our time, energy, and resources.

  380. What it looks like to love

  381. Jesus or to love the things of

  382. this world, to love ourself.

  383. What is it?

  384. But you're a disciple maker.

  385. Just make sure you're making followers

  386. of Jesus, not followers of the world.

  387. Go and make disciples.

  388. Jesus said, of all nations.

  389. Now, I don't know if you recognize

  390. this in the word all, but Jesus is not.

  391. Exclusive, right?

  392. He is opening the doors.

  393. He's inclusive.

  394. He wants everybody.

  395. There's a scene in heaven where in

  396. the end, people from every tribe and

  397. language, every tongue will stand before

  398. the throne, and it's gonna be the most

  399. amazing song that no one understands.

  400. As we all worship Jesus together.

  401. Actually, we're all gonna get it.

  402. That's the cool part.

  403. I can't wait to figure that one

  404. out, but it's gonna be a linguistic.

  405. I don't know what medley of insanity.

  406. It's awesome.

  407. Everybody from everywhere who

  408. knows Jesus, no matter the color

  409. of your skin, the language, I

  410. mean, it's, it's gonna be awesome.

  411. Jesus died not just for the Caucasian,

  412. Midwest of America, though he did.

  413. He also died.

  414. For people in Iran, right?

  415. You know what's fun to do right now

  416. is to look online and watch Iranian

  417. worship services for people who

  418. are born again, followers of Jesus

  419. Christ, and listen to them sing.

  420. And you're like, wait a second,

  421. I sing that song in English.

  422. Maybe you're not my enemy.

  423. Maybe shoot, maybe there's brotherhood

  424. and sisterhood and family here.

  425. We get caught up really

  426. quick in nationalism.

  427. We get really caught up big time

  428. in, in self egocentric living,

  429. right where everything's about

  430. us and how it benefits us.

  431. But Jesus called us to be people who

  432. make disciples of all nations, all

  433. people groups, because Jesus died for

  434. all nations and for all people groups.

  435. I'll never understand.

  436. How people twisted scripture to justify

  437. racism and oppression to people of

  438. different skin colors or ethnicity.

  439. It's, it's just so anti-biblical.

  440. You gotta really try hard to

  441. twist it, and maybe sin helps.

  442. That's probably a big part of it, right?

  443. But Jesus loves everybody and he calls

  444. you and me to make disciples of everybody.

  445. So have some fun.

  446. Talk to some people that you

  447. don't understand what they're

  448. saying and try to love them.

  449. Because that's what we're

  450. called to go and do, right?

  451. All nations.

  452. And then he says to baptize them.

  453. We talk a lot about baptism.

  454. We do some fun baptism stuff and,

  455. and baptism's important, right?

  456. It's, it's significant.

  457. And a lot of people debate how

  458. you do it, all those things.

  459. And we talk about that from time to time.

  460. But ultimately recognizing that Jesus

  461. says there needs to be a symbolic

  462. act of true, genuine, devoted.

  463. Follower of Jesus, not

  464. just lip service, right?

  465. We've gotten really good at just

  466. saying, uh, say a sinner's prayer and

  467. you get a get outta jail free card

  468. and you don't have to go to hell.

  469. Woo-hoo.

  470. And that's Christianity.

  471. The problem is it's really not

  472. biblical Christianity, and it's

  473. really not what Jesus said, right?

  474. If we're gonna make disciples,

  475. these followers ought to be

  476. baptized in faith, right?

  477. And in a lot of places in the

  478. world, baptism is the symbol.

  479. Of now you've crossed the line.

  480. Now you're a legit Christian.

  481. Maybe we should have more

  482. people who cross that line and

  483. become legit followers of Jesus.

  484. 'cause Jesus said, we're supposed to

  485. go and baptize and we're supposed to

  486. baptize them in the name of the Father

  487. and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  488. And there's a lot of theologians

  489. who like to argue and debate

  490. the Trinity, the triune God.

  491. Three persons in one.

  492. I think one of the things you gotta ask

  493. yourself is if there isn't a trinity

  494. and it's just God, why did Jesus

  495. reference all three on equal status?

  496. Right?

  497. Because this is Jesus saying, God

  498. the Father, God the Son, God the Holy

  499. Spirit, it's unity, it's oneness.

  500. If you can explain the

  501. Trinity, congratulations.

  502. I mean, you're sitting on a

  503. gold mine of theological books.

  504. 'cause we can't get our brutal,

  505. finite brains around the

  506. enormity of who our God is.

  507. But he has revealed himself in these

  508. three persons, father, son, holy Spirit.

  509. And when we do baptism, it's why we say we

  510. baptize you in the name of the Father and

  511. the Son and the Holy Spirit, all three in

  512. one, acknowledging their status as God.

  513. So we're supposed to go, we're

  514. supposed to make genuine, authentic

  515. followers of Jesus, baptizing them

  516. with an outward symbolic act that's

  517. genuine and authentic that says,

  518. I'm legitimately following Jesus.

  519. It's not just something

  520. I'm giving lip service to.

  521. I'm on it right And I love this.

  522. Don't miss this, this.

  523. And it's like, oh yeah, this is also

  524. critical to what we're supposed to do.

  525. We're supposed to teach them to obey.

  526. I dunno if you know

  527. this about discipleship.

  528. It's not about perfection,

  529. but it is about obedience.

  530. And when we think we can say a prayer

  531. and now we don't have to obey, we

  532. just do whatever we want to do, it

  533. just flies in the face of what Jesus

  534. said it means to be a disciple, right?

  535. A disciple walks in obedience to

  536. the best of their ability to their

  537. masters of the one they serve, right?

  538. So if you're a person who thinks I

  539. don't have to obey what God says.

  540. And I'm fine.

  541. What just, it doesn't even work with what

  542. Jesus revealed the whole thing to be.

  543. Right.

  544. It doesn't make sense.

  545. We're supposed to obey

  546. everything he's commanded us.

  547. Now raise your hand if you feel

  548. like you are getting a hundred

  549. percent on the I'm obeying

  550. everything Jesus has commanded ever.

  551. I'm doing this to help those of you

  552. who feel like you're there that this

  553. isn't my hand, just for the record.

  554. Right.

  555. No, we don't get it all right.

  556. Right.

  557. We don't get it perfect.

  558. It's overwhelming to think, how

  559. do I live per like perfectly?

  560. Like Jesus, how do,

  561. how's that even possible?

  562. Right?

  563. It's pretty overwhelming.

  564. So I wanna just take you over to

  565. Matthew real quick, 22 where Jesus

  566. hooks us up with a little help.

  567. This is like the cheat

  568. code for the entire Bible.

  569. Okay?

  570. If you're like, I don't know

  571. how to follow Jesus, here's the

  572. cheat code for the whole thing.

  573. Super easy.

  574. I'm just kidding.

  575. Super hard, but super simple.

  576. He says, you shall love the Lord

  577. your God with all your heart,

  578. mind, soul, and Mark adds strength.

  579. So you love God with

  580. everything you've got.

  581. And the second greatest commandment

  582. is this, to love your neighbor as

  583. hard and as much as you love yourself.

  584. So we love God with everything

  585. we've got, and we love our

  586. neighbor with everything we got.

  587. And he says, all the law, all

  588. the commandments, everything

  589. hangs on these two realities.

  590. So here's what's cool about that.

  591. You don't have to worry

  592. about 10 Commandments.

  593. I'm just gonna let you

  594. out right now, okay?

  595. You can ignore the 10 Commandments.

  596. When somebody says to you, do you

  597. have the 10 Commandments memorized?

  598. You can be like, I don't.

  599. I don't, I don't even remember

  600. if I'm supposed to honor my

  601. father and mother or not.

  602. I don't remember them.

  603. I just don't.

  604. But you have to say this.

  605. You have to say.

  606. But I remember the two most important

  607. commandments to love God with everything

  608. I've got and love my neighbor with

  609. everything I got because you ready?

  610. Here's the secret.

  611. If you do those two, you can't break

  612. any one of the 10 Commandments.

  613. You'll accidentally do them all.

  614. You'll honor your father and mother.

  615. You won't covet or envy

  616. you won't steal or lie.

  617. You'll accidentally do all of the 10

  618. commandments and walk in obedience,

  619. not just to those commandments, but

  620. to everything else Jesus called us to.

  621. If you'll love God with everything

  622. you've got, and you'll love your

  623. neighbor as yourself, right?

  624. Everything you got, because everything

  625. is summed up in that space, and you

  626. can't break the 10 Commandments or any

  627. of God's commandments or direction to us.

  628. If we'll just live that out.

  629. Now that's gonna require

  630. like real love, right?

  631. I don't mean like affirm what people are

  632. doing and smile and look the other way.

  633. It means you speak

  634. truth, you walk in truth.

  635. You're upright, you're righteous in all

  636. the things that you try to do, right?

  637. But those two commandments, Jesus

  638. said, are the cheat code man.

  639. That gets you what I'm talking about.

  640. So we're supposed to make disciples

  641. and tell them, obey what Jesus said,

  642. which if we can simplify the concept.

  643. To loving God with everything

  644. we've got and loving our neighbor

  645. with everything we've got.

  646. We cover really most everything

  647. Jesus commanded us to do.

  648. Now, if I'm wrong on that, when you

  649. get to heaven, just say, there was this

  650. idiot preacher who said, don't do the

  651. 10 Commandments, just do these two,

  652. but I'm pretty sure it captures it.

  653. And then Jesus says,

  654. because he knows us, right?

  655. He says, Hey.

  656. I'm with you.

  657. You're not gonna be alone.

  658. I am with you always to the very end.

  659. He promises his presence as we go, right?

  660. The disciples we're put in situations

  661. where they're like, we're gonna

  662. be led in front of governors and

  663. magistrates, and, and, and we're

  664. gonna have to face the authorities.

  665. And Jesus was like, don't worry

  666. about what you need to say.

  667. You'll be given what to say.

  668. Why?

  669. 'cause I will be with you.

  670. I will be present.

  671. My presence will go with you.

  672. And listen, you can do a lot of things

  673. on your own, I suppose, but you can

  674. do anything with the presence of God.

  675. If God goes with you, there is no

  676. circumstance, there is no obstacle.

  677. There is no situation that you

  678. face that's too big, too hard,

  679. too difficult, too overwhelming.

  680. There is nothing, nothing.

  681. Too big for our God and if his presence

  682. will go with us, we can walk through fire.

  683. We can walk through the

  684. valley of shadow of death.

  685. We can walk through death in this life.

  686. There's just nothing this world can

  687. throw at us that can compare to the

  688. magnitude and the greatness of who

  689. he is and promises his presence,

  690. but he also promises his power.

  691. The disciples are together

  692. in the Book of Acts as Jesus

  693. is leaving and he tells them.

  694. You'll receive power when the Holy

  695. Spirit comes on you, and you'll be my

  696. witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria,

  697. to the uttermost parts of the earth.

  698. He says, the power of the Holy Spirit is

  699. gonna show up and be active in the lives

  700. of those who are disciples, and his power

  701. will sustain us and give us strength and

  702. direction and provision and all the things

  703. that we need for godliness and walking

  704. in this life, and we will receive power.

  705. To be my witnesses.

  706. He says to be a witness.

  707. And I was thinking about this and I

  708. wanted to throw this at you here as

  709. we're getting close to the wrap up.

  710. So hang in there with me.

  711. What does it mean to be a witness?

  712. What does it mean?

  713. And I thought of two things, kind

  714. of two criteria that I think are, I

  715. mean, you can't be a witness without

  716. these, and you might recognize this.

  717. You gotta see something or you

  718. gotta say something, right?

  719. Sorry, I totally stole that from our See

  720. something, say something culture, right?

  721. Here's the truth about being a witness.

  722. You gotta see something and

  723. you gotta say something.

  724. It's kind of that simple, right?

  725. Here's the thing, you gotta see something.

  726. You need to experience something, an

  727. event, a situation, a moment, something

  728. has to happen that you're a part of,

  729. and then you gotta testify to it.

  730. You gotta tell people about it, right?

  731. A witness who doesn't say anything,

  732. who never testifies a silent

  733. witness, a, a pointless witness.

  734. I don't know.

  735. Like, you're just not really a witness.

  736. Do you remember the people, um, in

  737. the, uh, think of a famous trial.

  738. I was gonna say OJ Simpson.

  739. And then I was like, holy

  740. cow, that dates me so bad.

  741. Nevermind, um, pick any trial.

  742. What do they call the witness who

  743. never comes up to the witness stand?

  744. We don't know.

  745. None of us know.

  746. 'cause they weren't a

  747. witness in the trial.

  748. Right.

  749. They're just not a witness.

  750. We, I, I don't wanna call

  751. 'em Bob and Tom and Larry.

  752. I don't what?

  753. They're just not, they're not a witness.

  754. You're only a witness if you testify.

  755. Right.

  756. If you say something about

  757. what you experienced.

  758. And so I think the question here

  759. becomes as people who sit in the

  760. church and listen to stuff about

  761. Jesus is, what have you experienced?

  762. The disciples experienced eating

  763. with the risen savior, with

  764. touching nail holes, right?

  765. Talking to him.

  766. They saw him, they engaged with him.

  767. They spread the word.

  768. You and I haven't seen that,

  769. but what have we experienced?

  770. God moves his Holy Spirit moves.

  771. I would challenge you that you have

  772. experienced God showing up in your life

  773. in different times and different moments,

  774. and the Israelites had this awesome

  775. habit of building these altars of stone

  776. or just symbolism to remind them so

  777. they didn't forget that God showed up.

  778. Why?

  779. Because the enemy likes to come

  780. back and say, ah, did God really?

  781. Are you sure He likes to get us to

  782. second guess and question and wonder.

  783. If you can question and wonder

  784. whether God really showed up,

  785. you really had an experience that

  786. was meaningful and significant.

  787. Well, I don't really have

  788. anything to talk about, do I?

  789. Right.

  790. We have these awesome youth retreats

  791. where God shows up and the Holy

  792. Spirit moves, and then we get busy

  793. doing life and we kind of forget.

  794. Right?

  795. Teens, you gotta remember, you gotta make

  796. stupid bracelets as weird things on 'em.

  797. So you remember right?

  798. Looking down, you're like, oh yeah,

  799. I remember when God showed up.

  800. He did something cool.

  801. Why do we do that so that that experience

  802. is fresh, that memory doesn't fade and die

  803. and get kinda lost to the heap of history

  804. and memories and kind of convoluted

  805. and not really sure, but instead that

  806. we know, that we know, that we know.

  807. 'cause some of you in this room have had

  808. moments where, you know, God showed up.

  809. You know, you don't

  810. question, you don't wonder.

  811. You're not second guessing it, you know.

  812. Those moments are moments that you

  813. experienced for the purpose of being

  814. able to tell somebody about it and

  815. you have something to testify to.

  816. So what have you experienced?

  817. Don't lose it.

  818. Don't forget it.

  819. Remember it.

  820. What have you experienced?

  821. And then one little last

  822. mean question, I promise.

  823. Who are you telling?

  824. Because if you've had an experience

  825. with Jesus and you're not telling

  826. anybody, you are not a witness,

  827. you're not being a witness.

  828. You're just somebody with information

  829. that you're keeping to yourself.

  830. And listen, sometimes in trials people

  831. are, man, that's life and death situations

  832. O that God's people would realize.

  833. People you're walking with every day.

  834. They are in a life and death

  835. situation, not just in this stupid,

  836. little meaningless short life of

  837. ours that has all kinds of crazy,

  838. I'm talking eternal death forever.

  839. It's life and death out there.

  840. And we're called to go right out of

  841. these doors and go, and everywhere we

  842. go, be a witness to what Jesus has done

  843. in us and what we know to be the truth.

  844. I'm not saying you gotta get out

  845. there and become Billy Graham or

  846. whoever the Bryce Crawford, the the

  847. young Billy Graham with hair is.

  848. I don't know.

  849. But at the end of the day, here's

  850. the deal, you and I are called to

  851. go and to make disciples, right?

  852. Teaching them to be obedient.

  853. And we have a story and we

  854. have an experience to share.

  855. We have something to testify to.

  856. And someone to testify about.

  857. And if we're gonna claim to love

  858. people and withhold from them

  859. the most important truth, uh, I

  860. think we might be in violation.

  861. Not of love.

  862. The Lord your God, all your heart,

  863. mind, and soul and strength, but

  864. loving your neighbor as yourself.

  865. It's not, that's not

  866. love, that's not love.

  867. That's selfishness.

  868. Jesus died, but he is alive and

  869. he sits at the right hand of God

  870. making intercession for us man.

  871. Coming back as the reigning

  872. ultimate king of glory forever.

  873. But we are on a mission called to go to

  874. make disciples, to baptize, to teach.

  875. And we're not alone.

  876. He's with us.

  877. Sometimes it's easy to sit and soak

  878. up the celebration of Jesus that

  879. we get right, but man, we need more

  880. people who are hanging out with us.

  881. Speaking different languages, looking

  882. different than us, or speaking the

  883. same language, but still looking

  884. different than us hanging out in the

  885. throne room, celebrating together.

  886. Easter's fun to celebrate, but it's

  887. also a reminder that we are called on

  888. mission to go and make disciples, and

  889. that's what Jesus left us with and

  890. that is what I'm gonna leave you with.

  891. Let's pray.

  892. Father, thank you for your

  893. incredible love for us.

  894. We don't deserve to have eternal life.

  895. We don't deserve to be

  896. forgiven of our sins.

  897. We don't deserve any of what you give us,

  898. but we say thank you for the forgiveness,

  899. for the hope for the life that we have.

  900. Thank you for the experiences that you

  901. have given us with you and with your

  902. spirit that we know and we do know Jesus.

  903. We know those moments.

  904. We know who you are and what you've done.

  905. Please guard our minds in Christ

  906. Jesus and protect us from the.

  907. Doubt that the enemy brings and the lies

  908. and how he tries to steal the truth.

  909. But Jesus, help us to be courageous.

  910. People who fulfill the commission, the

  911. mission that you've called us to, to

  912. everywhere we go, have our eyes open,

  913. paying attention, trying to make genuine

  914. followers of you, people who are baptized

  915. in your name, who follow what you taught.

  916. So, Lord, help us to follow

  917. what you taught, to love you

  918. with everything we've got.

  919. To love our neighbor with everything

  920. we've got and help that spill into

  921. being a dynamic, legitimate witness

  922. that impacts the people around us.

  923. Thank you for your love for us, and thank

  924. you that you are with us always as we go.

  925. So help us.

  926. In Jesus name.

  927. Amen.
