  4. [music]

  5. >> Hey.

  6. >> [music]

  7. [music]

  8. >> When the King speaks a word, [music] it

  9. cannot be overturned. It's as good as

  10. done.

  11. And when heaven touches earth, it can

  12. never be reversed. It's the kingdom

  13. come.

  14. So, get the liars out the way. They

  15. don't have the final say. There is only

  16. [singing] one.

  17. The sovereign and supreme. Every word he

  18. speaks is holy.

  19. The Lamb [music and singing] of God has

  20. overcome

  21. and his testimony is his blood.

  22. And if he said that it

  23. [singing and music] is done, it is done.

  24. So be it, God.

  25. >> [music]

  26. >> To the one [music] on the throne who

  27. cannot be overthrown, [singing]

  28. sing hallelujah.

  29. To the last and the first ruler of the

  30. universe, sing hallelujah. [music]

  31. To the alpha [music] omega, the master,

  32. the [singing] maker, the name above

  33. every other [music] name.

  34. Give him all the praise. He is holy.

  35. Above

  36. has overcome.

  37. My testimony [music]

  38. is his blood.

  39. And

  40. if he said [music] that it is done, it

  41. is done.

  42. So be it, God.

  43. >> [music]

  44. >> The weapons

  45. of the enemy,

  46. they have [music]

  47. no power

  48. over me.

  49. And

  50. with all

  51. authority covers me.

  52. So be

  53. it, God.

  54. So

  55. be it, God.

  56. >> [music]

  57. >> So

  58. be it, God.

  59. From a throne to a cross,

  60. who would pay such a price for the sin

  61. of the world? Here's your king

  62. crucified.

  63. See the nails

  64. on his hands.

  65. >> [music]

  66. >> See the wounds [singing]

  67. in his side. See the crown

  68. into mud.

  69. But instead [singing]

  70. prophesied

  71. that it was not the end.

  72. >> [music]

  73. >> Wipe the tears from our eyes.

  74. Don't forget [music and singing]

  75. what he said.

  76. On the third,

  77. he would rise.

  78. >> [music]

  79. >> He's alive.

  80. He's alive. He's alive.

  81. He's alive.

  82. >> [music]

  83. >> He's alive.

  84. He's alive.

  85. The Lamb

  86. >> [music]

  87. >> of God

  88. has overcome.

  89. My testimony

  90. is his blood.

  91. And

  92. if he said

  93. >> [music]

  94. >> that it is done,

  95. it is done.

  96. So be

  97. it, God.

  98. The weapons [music]

  99. of the enemy,

  100. they have no [music] power

  101. over me.

  102. And

  103. with all

  104. >> [music]

  105. >> authority

  106. covers me.

  107. So be

  108. it, God.

  109. >> [music]

  110. >> So be

  111. it, God.

  112. It is final.

  113. It is written.

  114. It is settled.

  115. It is finished.

  116. See that

  117. >> [music]

  118. >> old grave?

  119. He was in it.

  120. Now he

  121. isn't.

  122. It is

  123. final.

  124. It is written.

  125. It is settled.

  126. It is finished.

  127. See that

  128. >> [music]

  129. >> old grave?

  130. He was in it.

  131. >> [singing]

  132. >> Now he

  133. >> [music]

  134. >> isn't.

  135. He is risen.

  136. Hallelujah.

  137. Hallelujah. [music]

  138. Hallelujah.

  139. Hallelujah. [music]

  140. Hallelujah.

  141. >> [music]

  142. [music]

  143. >> I remember the first time I heard him

  144. speak.

  145. He called me by my name.

  146. Mary.

  147. It was a small moment, but

  148. I had never felt more seen and known.

  149. I

  150. wasn't the same back then. I

  151. was barely living.

  152. But he brought life

  153. to me.

  154. The words he said, the miracles he

  155. performed, it was all so amazing.

  156. And then he was gone.

  157. His life snuffed out like the flame of a

  158. candle.

  159. And as I stared up at the cross,

  160. it felt like my whole world had just

  161. been plunged back into that darkness.

  162. We walked slowly to the tomb that

  163. morning.

  164. I carried the burial spices,

  165. a weight that has never felt heavier.

  166. We didn't say much as we walked. We

  167. weren't even sure how we would get

  168. inside. Would the guards turn us away?

  169. Would they help us roll back the stone?

  170. And

  171. and then we saw it.

  172. While we were still a ways off, the

  173. the stone

  174. had been rolled away.

  175. Our steps quickened and so did our

  176. heartbeats.

  177. We rushed into the tomb

  178. and it was empty.

  179. He wasn't there.

  180. My heart sank into my stomach.

  181. What had they done with his body?

  182. My eyes brimmed with tears as a wave of

  183. despair crashed over me.

  184. Why didn't we walk faster? We could have

  185. guarded the tomb. Our last chance to

  186. show him the honor he deserved was just

  187. snatched away in the night.

  188. We could have done more.

  189. I had failed him.

  190. And then they appeared.

  191. Their clothes gleaming white and they

  192. asked us,

  193. "Why do you look for the living among

  194. the dead?"

  195. And then they said the words still

  196. echoing through my soul.

  197. "He is not here.

  198. He has risen."

  199. My mind couldn't comprehend it.

  200. I could barely breathe. What did this

  201. mean?

  202. But before they left, they said,

  203. "Remember."

  204. And in that moment,

  205. I did.

  206. Every word he said, every miracle he

  207. performed, it all came rushing back.

  208. And I remembered how it felt

  209. when he called me by my name.

  210. Good morning, Calvary Church. He has

  211. risen.

  212. Will you stand with us as we sing

  213. praise to Jesus this morning?

  214. >> [music]

  215. >> We remember that he lived, he died, and

  216. he defeated sin and death, and he is

  217. worthy of praise this morning. [music]

  218. We believe that he rose

  219. and that he is our salvation this

  220. morning. Let's join together and sing,

  221. [music]

  222. I believe there is one salvation.

  223. I believe there is one [music]

  224. salvation,

  225. one doorway that leads to life, one

  226. redemption, one confession. I believe

  227. [music]

  228. in the name of Jesus Christ.

  229. Sing, I believe in the crucifixion. By

  230. his blood I have been set [music] free.

  231. I believe in the crucifixion.

  232. By [music] his blood I have been set

  233. free.

  234. I believe in the resurrection. [music]

  235. Hallelujah, his life is destiny.

  241. will be.

  242. In Jesus' mighty name

  243. >> [music]

  244. [music]

  245. >> I believe in the hope of heaven.

  246. >> [music]

  247. >> I believe in the hope of heaven. He's

  248. preparing a place for me.

  249. Far beyond [music]

  250. what hearts imagine, ears have heard,

  251. or [singing] eyes have

  252. seen.

  253. I believe that a day is

  254. >> [music]

  255. >> coming.

  256. He's returning to claim his [singing]

  257. bride. Like the old

  258. keep it burning. See the lamb [music]

  259. rose a roaring lion.

  260. >> [singing]

  277. I believe.

  278. >> [music]

  280. >> [music]

  281. >> Crown him with many [singing] crowns,

  282. the lamb upon his throne.

  283. How

  284. >> [singing]

  285. >> how the

  286. heavenly

  287. anthem drowns

  288. the music but its own.

  289. Awake, my soul, and sing

  290. of him who died for me.

  291. >> [music]

  292. >> And hail

  293. him as thy matchless king

  294. >> [music]

  295. >> through all eternity. [singing]

  296. Crown him. Crown him the Lord [music] of

  297. life

  298. who triumphed o'er the grave

  299. and rose victorious [music and singing]

  300. in the strife for those he came to save.

  301. His glory [music and singing] now we

  495. thankful for what you have done.

  496. Thankful that there is nobody in the

  497. grave now because you were raised to

  498. life.

  499. And we praise your name.

  500. And as we sing these songs of love to

  501. you this morning, as we allow your word

  502. to impact your hearts, as we spend time

  503. talking to you, would you just move

  504. among us? Would you have your way?

  505. Would you have hearts that are soft,

  506. that are ready, willing and open to what

  507. you have to say to us this morning?

  508. Thank you for your love for us.

  509. That you loved us first.

  510. Would you continue to call names to you

  511. this morning, Father?

  512. And then we pray.

  513. Amen.

  514. Church, you can be seated.

  515. Well, church, as you're getting seated

  516. seated, as the ushers come forward, let

  517. me let me be maybe not the first, maybe

  518. not the fifth, maybe not the 75th,

  519. but let me wish you a happy Easter. But

  520. more important than that, a happy

  521. Resurrection Sunday that we are gathered

  522. together today to celebrate a lion

  523. that rose from the dead, a lamb that was

  524. slain for for all mankind. That Jesus

  525. came and died on the cross. I want to

  526. just share a real quick passage of

  527. scripture with you. So, the book of

  528. John, so Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, at

  529. the beginning of John,

  530. John says this as he sees Jesus coming.

  531. John the Baptist says, "Behold

  532. the lamb of God

  533. who takes away the sins of the world."

  534. Today, we celebrate that lamb that that

  535. gave his life freely for us so that we

  536. could have eternal life. And so, I just

  537. want to say as we've as we've gathered

  538. together, as we've worshipped,

  539. I I want you to hear, no matter

  540. where you're coming from this past week,

  541. that we don't we don't come to God

  542. because we have our life together. We

  543. don't we don't show up here because

  544. we've got it all figured out.

  545. But as broken and imperfect as we are,

  546. we serve a holy God that loved us in

  547. spite of our sin, he sent his son. And

  548. so, our prayer for you today is that you

  549. will see Jesus. And And really, as a

  550. staff this week, we spent time in this

  551. room praying over seats, praying for

  552. each of you that that you would get to

  553. experience who this Jesus is today. And

  554. our heart desire is that you will come

  555. to know him if if you do not know him.

  556. And we're excited, we're so thankful

  557. that you're here. Uh we're we're really

  558. excited just for you to hear about

  559. Jesus, hear about what he's done for us.

  560. And so, what we're going to do is before

  561. we go into the the teaching part, and

  562. Carlos is going to be coming up and

  563. sharing from God's word,

  564. I want to just take a moment and pray

  565. for you. I want to pray for you that

  566. just no matter what you're walking in

  567. with,

  568. that God will just kind of calm your

  569. heart.

  570. That you will be able to see him, that

  571. you'll be able to

  572. clearly hear what his son has done for

  573. you.

  574. Let's pray.

  575. Jesus, as we've just proclaimed these

  576. words to you,

  577. that it's because of your resurrection

  578. that we have hope today.

  579. That you're you can't be found in a tomb

  580. anywhere.

  581. But Jesus, we know that as your word

  582. says that you are seated at the right

  583. hand of the throne of God. And so,

  584. we celebrate that not just today, we

  585. celebrate that every day.

  586. But Lord, as friends have gathered,

  587. family members have gathered today,

  588. God, I don't know what they're walking

  589. in with, what their week, what their

  590. month, what their year has been like.

  591. But God, may you stir hearts, may you

  592. stir minds today so that they may see

  593. your love for them, that they may see

  594. grace outweighs anything else, that your

  595. grace was poured out on the cross

  596. so that we as broken, imperfect people,

  597. we can come to know you because of your

  598. son, Jesus. And so, we thank you. Thank

  599. you for the opportunity now we have to

  600. open up your word. Uh may ears and

  601. hearts be receptive. In your name we

  602. pray. Amen.

  603. >> [music]

  604. >> Well, as our Quakertown campus joins us

  605. via simulcast, I want to say a big good

  606. morning to all of you in Quakertown and

  607. happy Easter. Happy Easter all of you

  608. joining us online as well. And to all of

  609. you here, happy Easter.

  610. Now, when you think about Easter, I I

  611. have a question for you. What are some

  612. words that come to your mind when you

  613. think about Easter? Like uh maybe if

  614. you're older, you might think of Easter

  615. bonnets.

  616. Is that a thing anymore? That doesn't

  617. feel like that's a thing anymore.

  618. All right, so I'm I'm I almost wore one

  619. today, but

  620. Easter bonnets, or maybe if you're

  621. younger, you think of like Easter

  622. baskets,

  623. Easter eggs,

  624. the candy in the Easter eggs. My

  625. question is,

  626. why does Reese's

  627. only make the chocolate peanut butter

  628. egg? I mean, they should be all year

  629. round.

  630. For some Right?

  631. That's going to be the only thing you

  632. agree with me today on. That's it.

  633. Like we think of that, right? We think

  634. of like

  635. jelly beans.

  636. Brach's way better than Jelly Bellies.

  637. But is there anything more

  638. disappointing?

  639. Is there any Is there anything more

  640. disappointing

  641. than accidentally eating the licorice

  642. jelly bean?

  643. I mean, that's the worst. That's

  644. absolutely horrible.

  645. What are some other words? We think

  646. church, right? Some of you think of

  647. church, you come to church. On Easter

  648. Sunday, you think of tomb.

  649. Think of angels, maybe.

  650. Today, we're going to talk

  651. about probably the most important word

  652. when it comes to Easter.

  653. That word is resurrection.

  654. See, the resurrection

  655. is the central focus

  656. of the Christian belief.

  657. The resurrection is not meant to be

  658. symbolic. It's not meant to be a

  659. metaphor. Here's what the resurrection

  660. is.

  661. The resurrection is the claim

  662. that Jesus

  663. really did live a life.

  664. He really was a person. He was fully

  665. God, fully man.

  666. And that he really did die.

  667. He didn't go into a coma.

  668. He died.

  669. And then the resurrection is the claim

  670. that on the third day

  671. that stone rolled away.

  672. And his heart

  673. began to thump.

  674. His heart began to beat.

  675. The resurrection is the claim that Jesus

  676. rose from the dead alive

  677. and eternally victorious.

  678. And if the resurrection is true

  679. then everything changes.

  680. Because if the resurrection is true and

  681. Jesus rose from the dead, then Jesus is

  682. who he said he was and he did what he

  683. said he would do.

  684. You see, when Jesus died on that cross,

  685. his disciples, his friends, everybody

  686. thought that his story had ended.

  687. But our big idea for today

  688. our big idea for this whole sermon today

  689. is this.

  690. Because Jesus is alive

  691. the end became the beginning.

  692. Because Jesus is alive, the end became

  693. the beginning.

  694. If you have a Bible, you can turn to

  695. Luke chapter 24. If you don't have a

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  696. Bible and you want to use one of the

  697. Bibles at Calvary in Saucon, and then

  698. the seat rack in Quakertown in the back

  699. of the room, turn to page 722.

  700. If you don't own a Bible, take that one

  701. home. It's our gift to you. We believe

  702. that the Bible is filled with

  703. life-changing truth. So, take that home.

  704. But we're going to start Luke chapter

    Luke 24:1

  705. 24, verse 1.

  706. On the first day of the week, very early

  707. in the morning

  708. the women took the spices they had

  709. prepared and went to the tomb.

  710. They found the stone rolled away from

  711. the tomb.

  712. But when they entered, they did not find

  713. the body of the Lord Jesus.

  714. Okay, here's the first thing that we

  715. need to understand about the

  716. resurrection.

  717. What we need to understand is that

  718. nobody was expecting it.

  719. In fact, when the women were going to

  720. the tomb, they came expecting death.

  721. The story doesn't begin of Resurrection

  722. Sunday. The story doesn't begin with

  723. people outside of the tomb with banners

  724. saying, "Welcome back."

  725. Or banners saying, "You did it."

  726. They didn't have lawn chairs outside of

  727. the tomb just waiting. They're like,

  728. "Ready?"

  729. They didn't do that.

  730. They came expecting death.

  731. You see

  732. the story

  733. of the resurrection doesn't begin with

  734. this confident faith. It actually begins

  735. with honest grief.

  736. And so, the women go to the tomb and

  737. they're carrying spices because that's

  738. what you did

  739. when a body was dead and it was being

  740. prepared for that time of just being

  741. wrapped up and in that tomb. You carried

  742. spices.

  743. From their's perspective, the story was

  744. over.

  745. It was over.

  746. And what we need to understand is that

  747. the resurrection

  748. is not wishful thinking.

  749. It's not wishful thinking.

  750. It's a reality that breaks into the

  751. moment when death seems final.

  752. If we were to continue on,

  753. we'll see this unpacked a little bit

  754. more.

  755. In verse 4, while they were wondering

  756. about this

  757. suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed

  758. like lightning stood beside them. In

  759. their fright, the women bowed down with

  760. their faces to the ground, but the men

  761. said to them

  762. "Why do you look

  763. for the living among the dead?

  764. He is not here.

  765. He has risen.

  766. Remember

  767. remember how he told you while he was

  768. still with you in Galilee, 'The Son of

  769. Man must be delivered over to the hands

  770. of sinners, be crucified, and on the

  771. third day be raised again.'"

  772. Then

  773. they remembered his words.

  774. You see, the next thing that we learn

  775. about the resurrection is this.

  776. Jesus said it

  777. and then he did it.

  778. Jesus said it and then he did it.

  779. These men with these gleaming white

  780. clothes come and they ask the question,

  781. "Why do you look for the living among

  782. the dead?" And then they said

  783. "Remember

  784. remember how he told you."

  785. And what happens to women? They remember

  786. his words and everything

  787. changes. Everything changes.

  788. See, the resurrection is not just a

  789. miracle.

  790. It's a fulfilled promise.

  791. It's a fulfilled promise. Jesus didn't

  792. just rise, he kept his word.

  793. He kept his word.

  794. His word was true.

  795. You see, the resurrection doesn't call

  796. us to blind optimism.

  797. It doesn't call us to pretending that

  798. everything is okay.

  799. In the midst

  800. of the darkness, the resurrection calls

  801. us

  802. and asks us

  803. if we will believe that Jesus tells the

  804. truth.

  805. Because

  806. if Jesus is alive

  807. then the ultimate test

  808. for the truth of his words was passed.

  809. Even death

  810. couldn't stop him from fulfilling his

  811. word.

  812. If Jesus is alive

  813. neutrality is not an option.

  814. You either trust Jesus

  815. or you don't.

  816. You either trust that he did what he

  817. said he would do or you don't.

  818. Jesus said it

  819. and then he did it.

  820. Let's keep going on and as we read in

  821. verse 9, "When they came back from the

  822. tomb, they told all these things to the

  823. 11

  824. and to all the others. It was Mary

  825. Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of

  826. James and the others with them who told

  827. this to the apostles, but they did not

  828. believe the women because their words

  829. seemed to them like nonsense."

  830. Peter, however, got up and ran to the

  831. tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of

  832. linen lying by themselves and he went

  833. away wondering to himself what had

  834. happened.

  835. What we need to understand is that the

  836. resurrection confronted unbelief.

  837. The resurrection confronted unbelief.

  838. So, the women burst into the room and

  839. they tell the the disciples the story.

  840. And what happens?

  841. The disciples say, "Amen.

  842. We knew this would happen."

  843. No, that's not what happened.

  844. They said the same thing that happens

  845. when my wife bursts into the room and

  846. starts talking to me.

  847. "Nonsense."

  848. >> [laughter]

  849. >> She's coming to the next service. I'm

  850. not going to do that in that one.

  851. He said, "Nonsense.

  852. This is ridiculous. This is impossible."

  853. The resurrection didn't make sense.

  854. But then there's Peter.

  855. What does Peter do?

  856. Peter

  857. starts to hear the words.

  858. Something starts to stir inside of him.

  859. He doesn't have everything figured out.

  860. But something in him has been awakened.

  861. Something like hope.

  862. Something like longing.

  863. There might just might be a possibility.

  864. And Peter gets up and he runs.

  865. He runs.

  866. And maybe that's where some of you are

  867. at today as well.

  868. You're not certain.

  869. You're not certain of this this good

  870. news of Jesus. You're

  871. you're not settled,

  872. but you're unable to ignore

  873. the possibility.

  874. There's something about that possibility

  875. that just can't be ignored.

  876. Because if Jesus is alive, then

  877. everything changes.

  878. You see, sometimes faith does not begin

  879. with certainty.

  880. Sometimes it begins when you can no

  881. longer ignore the possibility.

  882. When you can no longer ignore the

  883. possibility.

  884. And Peter, he sees the empty tomb,

  885. and he leaves marveling.

  886. Marveling, not fully understanding, but

  887. unable to ignore what is happening.

  888. See, the resurrection doesn't always

  889. remove all your questions,

  890. but it will confront you with something

  891. you can't ignore.

  892. It will confront you with something you

  893. can't ignore.

  894. And what we can't ignore is this.

  895. Jesus has defeated death.

  896. The empty tomb is not just proof

  897. that Jesus is alive,

  898. it is proof that death has been

  899. overthrown.

  900. In the Bible, we read a little bit more

  901. of this in 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  902. The author writes this, and he writes

  903. these words. He says, "Where, oh death,

  904. is your victory?

  905. Where, oh death, is your sting? The

  906. sting of death is sin, and the power of

  907. sin is the law, but thanks be to God.

  908. He gives us the victory through our Lord

  909. Jesus Christ."

  910. When the author of 1 Corinthians wrote

  911. this, he wasn't speaking theoretically.

  912. He taunts death.

  913. You see, on the cross, Jesus dealt with

  914. our sin,

  915. and through the resurrection, he defeats

  916. death.

  917. That means that death no longer has the

  918. final word.

  919. Death no longer has the final word over

  920. your story.

  921. Jesus does.

  922. The empty tomb points to a greater

  923. reality.

  924. The reality that Jesus passed through

  925. death and conquered it.

  926. And conquered it.

  927. Death met Jesus

  928. and lost.

  929. And lost.

  930. Jesus has authority

  931. over death.

  932. And if he has authority over death,

  933. he has authority over everything.

  934. Everything.

  935. And because of that,

  936. because of that,

  937. the story which everyone thought had

  938. ended,

  939. the story of Jesus' life which everyone

  940. had thought as was done,

  941. because of that,

  942. the end was not the end.

  943. It was the beginning.

  944. You see, the resurrection

  945. begins a new reality.

  946. It begins a new reality.

  947. Because Jesus rose, what looked like the

  948. end became the beginning, not just for

  949. him,

  950. but for us.

  951. The resurrection is not simply the

  952. continuation of a story, it is the start

  953. of a new reality.

  954. It is the beginning of fulfilled

  955. promises. Everything that Jesus said is

  956. now proven true.

  957. It is beginning of defeated death. The

  958. grave no longer has the final word.

  959. It is the beginning of a living hope,

  960. not wishful thinking, but something

  961. alive and secure.

  962. 1 Peter chapter 1 says it this way in

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  963. verse 3, "Praise be to the God and

  964. Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his

  965. great mercy, he has given us new birth

  966. into a living hope through the

  967. resurrection of Jesus Christ from the

  968. dead."

  969. Hope is not a feeling we try to hold on

  970. to.

  971. Hope is not a feeling we try to hold on

  972. to.

  973. >> [snorts]

  974. >> It is a person

  975. who walked out of a grave.

  976. It is a person who walked out of a

  977. grave.

  978. That's huge.

  979. Because there's different responses to

  980. the resurrection in Luke 24, just like

  981. there are different responses to the

  982. resurrection today.

  983. In Luke 24, we see people who witnessed

  984. and then they believed.

  985. We see people who doubted, and they

  986. wrestled.

  987. Then we see some like Peter who just

  988. runs towards the evidence.

  989. Maybe that's

  990. very descriptive of all of us today,

  991. right? Some of us

  992. we believe the truth of the

  993. resurrection.

  994. Some of us are still wrestling and

  995. uncertain. Some of us are just running

  996. towards the truth, uncertain of it, but

  997. there's a possibility we just can't

  998. ignore anymore.

  999. The question is this.

  1000. The question is not

  1001. "What do you feel?"

1002. Question is not what do you feel.

1003. The question is, "What will you do with

  1004. the risen Jesus?"

1005. What will you do with the risen Jesus?

1006. If the resurrection is true, then Jesus

1007. is not just part of history.

  1008. He is Lord.

1009. He died for our sin. He rose in victory,

1010. and he calls people to trust him.

  1011. The resurrection

1012. is not just something to believe. It is

  1013. someone to trust.

1014. It is someone to trust.

1015. You see, Luke 24 tells us that yes,

1016. Jesus was crucified. Yes, he was buried,

  1017. but he rose.

  1018. He rose again.

1019. And again, that means that what looked

  1020. like the end

1021. was not the end. It was the beginning.

1022. It was the beginning of a restored

1023. relationship with God, the beginning of

1024. freedom from sin, the beginning of new

1025. life that lasts now and forever.

1026. The resurrection doesn't just give you

  1027. hope for someday.

1028. It doesn't just give you hope for

  1029. someday.

1030. It gives you a starting point for today.

  1031. So, where

1032. are you at with all of that?

1033. Where are you at with all of that?

1034. See, here's the invitation of Easter.

1035. The invitation of Easter is this.

  1036. Come as you are.

  1037. Trust Jesus.

1038. Receive what he has done.

1039. That's the invitation of Easter.

  1040. Come as you are.

1041. Not try to clean yourself up.

  1042. Not try to be like, "I I I don't know.

1043. I'm not sure that I'm good enough to

  1044. come

1045. to No, come just as you are.

  1046. Trust Jesus.

1047. And receive what he has done.

1048. Through the resurrection, Jesus invites

1049. you into his story and into his hope.

  1050. Now, maybe today

  1051. you wouldn't call yourself a Christian.

1052. Maybe you're unsure about what you

1053. believe. Maybe you even have had

1054. some difficult moments with churches in

1055. the past. Maybe you've even been hurt by

  1056. churches.

1057. And if that's you, just before I go any

1058. further, I'm sorry that that happened.

1059. Especially if I'm the one who hurt you,

1060. I'm sorry that that happened.

  1061. We're imperfect people who serve a

  1062. perfect God.

1063. And this God loves you

1064. more than you could possibly imagine.

  1065. So, I don't know where you're at,

1066. but what I do know is this.

1067. If the resurrection is true,

  1068. then Jesus is alive.

1069. And this is not just a story to admire.

1070. It's an invitation to accept.

  1071. Jesus did for us

1072. what we could not do for ourselves.

1073. He entered into our brokenness. He

1074. carried our sin. He faced death in our

  1075. place and rose again

1076. so that we could be forgiven.

1077. Brought back to life, back to God, and

  1078. given new life.

1079. And if you are here and you're just

  1080. like, "Okay,

1081. I want to trust Jesus. I want to receive

  1082. what he's done.

1083. How do I do that?"

  1084. Just tell him.

1085. In a moment we're going to pray together

1086. and during that time you can just tell

  1087. him.

1088. You could say something like this,

1089. "Jesus, I believe you are alive.

  1090. I know I need your forgiveness.

1091. I turn from running my life on my own

1092. and I place my trust in you.

  1093. Forgive me.

1094. Make me new and lead me from this day

  1095. forward."

1096. Don't have to worry about the words

  1097. matching perfectly.

1098. It's not about the words.

1099. There are no magic words. It's not about

1100. the way you say the prayer, it's the one

1101. whom you're praying the prayer to.

1102. So in a moment we'll pray and if that is

  1103. your prayer,

  1104. if today

  1105. you choose to

  1106. come to Jesus,

  1107. trust him,

1108. and receive what he has done,

1109. you make that prayer your own.

1110. And you tell him right where you are.

  1111. Let's pray.

1112. Lord, I thank you for your goodness. I

  1113. thank you

  1114. for the resurrection.

1115. God, I thank you that the end was not

1116. the end, it was just the beginning.

  1117. The beginning of

1118. our being able to live a life with you.

1119. I thank you that Jesus defeated death,

1120. that he kept his word.

1121. Lord, I ask you that if there is anyone

  1122. in here

1123. who needs to trust you, that they would

1124. allow their hearts to be open to you.

1125. Father, for those of us in this room who

1126. do trust you and who are following you,

1127. I ask you that you would make the beauty

1128. of the resurrection just a little bit

1129. more real in our hearts today.

1130. That we would stand in wonder and

  1131. amazement

1132. and that we would overflow with the joy

1133. that that new life brings and that we

1134. would bring that joy that comes from the

1135. gospel, that comes from the good news of

1136. Jesus to everyone we come in contact

  1137. with.

1138. We pray this in Jesus' name.

  1139. Amen.

  1163. [singing]

  1164. [music]

1165. >> We were pretty quiet that day.

  1166. Unusual for us.

1167. We were huddled up together in silence,

  1168. our minds racing with

  1169. thoughts and fears.

  1170. He was gone.

1171. And then they came and barged in,

1172. talking over each other in a babbling

  1173. mass of words.

  1174. They ended the silence.

1175. At first we didn't understand what they

1176. were saying. It was all just

  1177. words.

  1178. Words began to

  1179. emerge.

  1180. Tomb,

  1181. empty,

1182. angels, remember what he said?

1183. Andrew was the first to respond,

  1184. "Nonsense." But I

  1185. I wasn't so sure myself.

1186. In fact, my heart began to race a little

  1187. faster,

1188. pumping the blood to the tips of my

  1189. fingers and the

  1190. tips of my toes.

  1191. Could it be true?

1192. My heart pumped even faster.

1193. My brain began to explode with questions

1194. and while the others were still mocking

1195. the women, I stood up. I could no longer

1196. hear anything but my heart racing. Could

  1197. it be true?

1198. I took a step towards the door and then

  1199. I

  1200. I ran.

1201. My feet were rushing in rhythm to my

1202. heart's excitement and I had to see for

1203. myself. Could it be true?

1204. When I got there, very suddenly, I

1205. realized that the stone was rolled away

1206. from the entrance to the tomb.

1207. And for the first time since I had heard

  1208. the women, I

  1209. slowed down.

1210. What was I expecting to see?

1211. What did I expect would happen?

  1212. Slowly,

1213. I walked through the entrance of the

  1214. tomb,

  1215. and he wasn't there.

1216. Now, the strips of linen that they used

1217. to wrap him with were there,

  1218. but he

  1219. he was not there.

1220. Turning around, I exited the tomb.

1221. What had happened [laughter] here?

  1222. What happened?

  1223. Now, maybe just

  1224. just maybe

  1225. it could

  1226. be true.

1227. Well, Jesus didn't just die so that we

1228. would just come here and sing some

1229. songs. So, we're going to celebrate that

1230. Jesus lives. Can I get an amen, church?

1231. On a hill for sinners, just like you and

  1232. me.

1233. On a hill [music] for sinners.

  1234. Come on.

  1235. His body broken,

  1236. the king [music] forsaken.

1237. As he hung on that cross. Keep the hands

  1238. going.

1239. The veil in pieces, [music]

  1240. the temple [singing] shaken.

1241. They mourned the [music] savior,

1242. but it wasn't for long. We sing the day.

  1243. Oh, he lives.

1244. He's risen from the [music and singing]

  1245. grave.

  1246. Victorious,

  1247. our savior

  1248. reigns.

  1249. >> [music]

1250. >> Oh, yes, he reigns.

  1251. He rose.

1252. The stone [music and singing]

  1253. is rolled away.

  1254. Forever, our redeemer

  1255. >> [singing]

  1256. >> lives.

  1257. Oh, yes, he lives.

1258. All right, back to here. Back to here.

  1259. Here in the silence,

1260. he wasn't [singing and music]

  1261. over.

  1262. Oh, our redeemer

  1263. is getting ready to

  1264. rise.

  1265. And dawn that morning,

1266. they came to [music] find him. And that

  1267. tomb was [singing] empty.

  1268. Cuz he is alive.

  1269. That tomb was empty.

  1270. >> [music]

1271. >> Cuz he is alive.

  1272. He lives.

  1273. Oh, he lives.

1274. He's risen from the [music] grave.

  1275. Victorious,

  1276. our savior

  1277. >> [music and singing]

  1278. >> reigns.

  1279. Oh, yes, he reigns.

  1280. He rose.

  1281. The stone [music]

  1282. is rolled away.

  1283. Forever, our redeemer

  1284. lives.

1285. Oh, yes, he [music] lives.

  1286. >> [music]

1287. >> Can we sing this together with all the

1288. belief in our hearts that we got?

  1289. Jesus Christ crucified,

1290. through his death there is life. By the

1291. blood of the lamb, we have been [music]

  1292. forgiven.

1293. Our debt has been paid. There is grace

1294. [music] upon grace. Only one name that

1295. saves. Sing the name. His name

1296. is Jesus [music] Christ crucified.

  1297. Through his death,

1298. there is [music and singing] life. By

  1299. the blood

  1300. of the lamb,

1301. we have been forgiven. Praise God.

  1302. >> [music]

  1303. >> Our debt

1304. has been paid. There is grace upon

  1305. [music] grace. Only one

  1306. name that saves.

  1307. And his name

  1308. >> [music]

1309. >> is Come on, church. Jesus. He lives.

1310. He's risen [music] from the grave.

  1311. Victorious,

  1312. our savior

  1313. >> [singing]

  1314. >> reigns.

  1315. Oh, yes, he reigns.

  1316. He rose.

1317. The stone is rolled [music] away.

  1318. Forever, [singing]

  1319. our redeemer

  1320. lives.

1321. Oh, yes, [music] he lives.

  1322. Oh, he lives.

1323. He's risen from the grave.

  1324. Victorious, [music]

  1325. [singing]

  1326. our savior

  1327. reigns.

  1328. Oh, yes, he

  1329. reigns.

  1330. He rose.

  1331. >> [music]

1332. >> The stone is rolled away.

  1333. Forever, our redeemer

  1334. lives.

  1335. Oh, yes, he

  1336. >> [music]

  1337. >> lives.

  1338. Jesus Christ

  1339. crucified,

  1340. through his death

1341. there is [music] life. By the blood of

  1342. the lamb,

  1343. we have been

  1344. forgiven.

  1345. >> [music]

1346. >> Our debt has been paid.

1347. There is grace upon grace. Only one

  1348. >> [music and singing]

  1349. >> name that saves.

  1350. And his name is

  1351. Jesus.

  1352. >> [music]

1353. >> Give him a shout of praise this morning,

  1354. y'all.

  1355. >> [music]

1356. >> Well, church, let me say this again. It

1357. is incredible day to gather with you to

  1358. celebrate a resurrected Jesus. I'm going

1359. to say a real quick thank you to our

1360. friends that are up in the Easter

1361. lounge. Thank you so much for being up

1362. there. Whether you're in the Easter

  1363. lounge or you're here,

  1364. Carlos asked this question.

  1365. What will you do

1366. uh with the resurrected Jesus?

1367. If if there's anything we can do to help

1368. answer questions, if we can pray with

1369. you after the service, we'll be up here.

  1370. We'll have a team of volunteers,

1371. even in the Easter lounge, that would

1372. love the opportunity to connect with

1373. you, to pray with you. But as we as we

1374. go out today, let's live in that reality

1375. that that Jesus is alive, he's

  1376. resurrected, and that change
