Yeah. M hm hm hm m good morning. Today's message CONTI is the
-
same being were looking up for the last few weeks Communion. Today we're going
-
to spend a few moments talking about the Last Supper. M h You know
-
this book is a book of two covenants mm hmmmm. The covenant one covenant
-
cut in the blood of sheep and goats, and the other Governant cut in
-
the Brother of Jesus. And it's through the Brother of Jesus that we appropriate
-
everything that God has for us. And today we're gonna have a look at
-
that. It's a book written by Jews, it's a Jewish book, and
-
we need to we need God's help to understand it. There's things in here
-
which we read which we don't understand if you're Jewish. It's just it's his
-
second nature. So we're going to start in the Book of Exstus and then
-
move through into the New Testament. Look in the Book of Luke. I
-
will start with Extus twelve, verse service one through to fourteen. I'm reading
-
from the New King James version. Now, the Lord spoke to Moses and
-
Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying this month shall be your beginning of
-
months. It shall be the first month of the year. To you speak
-
to all the Congregation of Israel, saying, on the tenth of this month,
-
every man shall take for himself a lamb according to the house of his
-
father, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small
-
for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it
-
according to the number of the persons, according to each man's need. You
-
shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish,
-
a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or
-
from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the
-
same month. Then the whole assembly, the Congregation of Israel, shall kill
-
it at twilight, and I shall take some of the blood and put it
-
on the two doorposts and on the lintle of the houses where they eat it.
-
Then they shall eat it the flesh on that night, roasted in the
-
fire with the leaven bread and with bitter herbs. They shall eat it.
-
Don't eat it raw, no boiled or at all with water, but roasted
-
in the fire, its head and its legs and its entrails. You shall
-
not let you shall let none of it remain until morning. And what remains
-
of it until morning, you shall burn in the fire, and thus shall
-
eat it. And with a belt on your waist, and your hands on
-
your feet, and your staff in your hand, you shall eat, eat
-
in haste. It is the Lord's passover. Or I'll pass through the land
-
of Egypt on that night, and I'll strike all the first spawn in the
-
land of Egypt, both man and beast, and against all the gods of
-
Egypt. I will execute judgment. And the Lord. Now the blood shall
-
be a sign for you on the house where you are. And when I
-
see the blood, I'll pass over you, and the plague shall not come
-
on you to destroy you when I strike a land of Egypt. So this
-
day shall be to you a memorial, and you shall keep it as a
-
feast for the Lord throughout your generations, shall keep it as a beast by
-
an everlasting ordinance. Extras. Twelve one to fourteen. There's a lot in
-
this verse, and haven't got time to go through everything. It's more like
-
a Bible. So this I've highlighted a couple of two or three points which
-
we need to look at this morning. If you notice in verse five it
-
says your lamb shall be without blemish a male of the first year. Now
-
this is a passover in Exodus is a shadow speaks of Jesus. Everything in
-
the Old Testament is a shadow of the New Testament. John the Baptist said,
-
behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
-
That's one John twenty nine. Behold the lamb of God who takes away the
-
sins of the world. Jesus was is the lamb of God who takes away
-
the sins of the world, God of the plan. Even back in Exodus
-
about bringing Jesus to light, the lamb was hidden for four days before he
-
was sacrificed during Passover. Those four days fulfilled were fulfilled by Jesus trying to
-
pass over. He took in Luke two. He was out and about in
-
public. He was seeing the temple. He was seeing in the temple courts.
-
That's Matthew twenty two, twenty four, and twenty six. Jesus with
-
a lamb without blemish. She was examined by the chief priests, the elders
-
Pilots and an ice Chaipers, who were both high priests at that time a
-
bit weird to high priests, the centurion, and lastly the thief standing on
-
the cross next to him, and he was found to be without blemish.
-
Let's read from verses twelve, Chapter twelve, verses twenty two to twenty three.
-
Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them,
-
pick out and take lambs for yourselves, according to your families, and kill
-
the passover lamb. And you shall take a bunch of hissop, dip it
-
in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the linthols and the
-
doorposts the blood shove. Well, that's what. And you and none of
-
you shall go out of the door of the house until the morning, for
-
the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians. When he seize the blood
-
on the lintel on the two doorposts, Lord will pass over the door.
-
I will not allow the the straw to come into your houses and to strike
-
you. Hissop is a bit of herb. I don't like it. They
-
dipped it in the blood, struck the lint and the two doorposts. That
-
makes a triangle which points to Heaven. Psalm one hundred and twenty one versus
-
one who says, I lift up to my I lift up my eyes to
-
the mountain. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the
-
Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Where does my help come from?
-
My help come from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
-
These is right from looking to God for their salvation. They're looking to God
-
for their way out, and we too need to look to God for our
-
way out. There is nothing too big for God beholding the Lord, the
-
God of all blesh Is there anything to harp for me? If recall these
-
rights? I cried out to God. That's in Exodus to twenty four,
-
and God had answered. When we cry out to God, God answers us.
-
We have a better covenant with better promises. Juliette made reference that earlier.
-
Let's go a litle bit further, and it came to pass as midnight.
-
At midnight, the Lord struck the firstborn in the land of Egypt,
-
from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the first
-
spawn of the captives was in the dungeon and the firstborn of the lifestock.
-
So Pharaoh arose in the night. He and his servants and all the Egyptians,
-
and as a great cry in the land of Egypt, but not a
-
house where there was one not dead remembered his covenant with Israel. The pastor
-
was observed as it is observed to this day as a memorial, and the
-
death angel passed over Israel. They were better covenant with better promises. The
-
brother Jesus cleanses us and it protects us h Like I said, there's a
-
shadow in the old covenant, and it's reflecting a new covenant. The covenant
-
is where there's an incision where blood throws, the Hebrews buried, and then
-
people exchange, like for instance, there's an exchange of gifts to an exchange
-
of clothes. Take a light and thendon that the bloody is cut. There's
-
a covenant meal using bread and wine. And then, for instance, in
-
a very crude sense, you can have one party who is weak that the
-
party is strong. Their weakness in one area is the strength of the person
-
of the area. When they come together, they are strong, so that
-
if he has a problem, he draws in his covenant and there's a covenant
-
cut. The covenant is in their foreskin because it's a it's a sign of
-
pride. But God didn't want to show a sign of price, so put
-
it where he couldn't show it. Because you can't do that. Canyon mh.
-
This is serious stuff. We read it, but we are not of
-
that mindset unless you're from the east. Let's look up to Luke twenty two
-
seven to thirteen. This is speaking of the preparation for Passover. Then came
-
the day of the leaven bread, when the passover must be killed. That's
-
speaking of the passover Lamb. And he sent Peter and John saying, go
-
and prepare the passover for us that when we eat. So they said to
-
him, where'd you want is to prepare? And he said to them,
-
behold, when you enter the city, a man will meet you carrying a
-
picture of water. Follow him into the house which he enters. Then you
-
should say to the master of the house. The teacher says to you,
-
where is the guest room where I make the passa with my disciples. Then
-
he will show you a large furnished upper room. Their mate ready. So
-
they went and found just as he said to them, and they prepared the
-
passover. So we all know that Passa will still celebrate today by by the
-
Jewish people, and by my mass and it Jews, and they remember the
-
extras from Israel. I want to imagine that upper room as we as we
-
look at the passover, they would recline in the pass I wouldn't sit at
-
the table and chair. They would recline. The tables would be down here.
-
It wasn't like getting eyes on forks out of it. It was a
-
different way of seating thick him at verse twenty two, fourteen to twenty.
-
When the hour at come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with
-
him, and he said to them, with fervent desire, I have desired
-
to eat this passer with you before I suffer. Before I say to you,
-
I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom
-
of God. Then he took the cup and gave thanks, and said,
-
take this and divide among yourselves, for I say to you I will not
-
drink of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes. And
-
he took the bread, gave thanks, and broke it and gave it to
-
them, saying, this is my body which is given for you do this
-
in remembers of me. LifeWise yours at the cup after suffer, saying this
-
cup is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you. Now,
-
that's a very familiar scripture which we've probably all read before and her quoted
-
before, and today I went to look at that scripture with a bit more
-
detail. We want to explore a little bit more of the class passover which
-
Jesus took before he suffered. I said, Her is a to still pass
-
over supper or meal that recounts the story of deliverance to Jewish people from Israel.
-
It's basically a scriptural liturgy of worship that takes place around the dinner table.
-
It's a Jewish tradition where the Jews remember the faithfulness of God and tell
-
the story and pass it down from generation to generations as Christians are passive.
-
Sada, He's all that, but it's more. It's not only about the
-
backdrop to the cross. It's also the content of the context of the first
-
Communion, the original lords of them. I've been to a number of saiders
-
over the years, so I'm going to share with you some of my experience
-
and how that light links to scripture. There are three talk about the bread.
-
There are three pieces of bread, which are called mossa. They can
-
be this big, they can do small crackers. Due tradition says that these
-
three pieces of bread will represent Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They're like pierced
-
with lots of little holes, and they're called massa or massa. They usually
-
wrapped in a napkin, or you can have a fancy bag, or you
-
put the three bits of bread in. It depends on the family, depends
-
who's doing it, whether the three pieces of bread or massa. I remember
-
once said the meal went to the Messonic believer who was was was doing doing
-
the meal. He says as a kid, he could never work out while
-
they always broke Isaac, because from the Jewish tradition it's Abraham, Isaac and
-
Jacob said, never work out while we broke Isaac. However, when he
-
became a mess On believer, he realized he wasn't Isaac. That the three
-
monsters represent the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. So when they
-
broke the bread, the third piece of bread and bill a piece of bread,
-
it wasn't Isaac, it was Jesus. When they break the bread,
-
the timent among the people, and then the piece left ever was called the
-
Afa coming. That was another back in the bag on the napkin, and
-
it's put aways hidden. Some people let their kids go and find it later
-
in the meal. Some people just whip it out the hidden The peace of
-
the of the Africomian speaks of Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. This
-
is what the Jews do everys he speaks to Jesus. The cup. In
-
our contemporary view of the Lord's Supper, there's like one cup. However,
-
it's been my experience with actually four cups. And these four cups that represent
-
four I wills declared in Exodus six six through seven, and today the reminders
-
of the journey has consecrated followers of Jesus Christ. There's a cup of scientification
-
I wrote down, so quote this one. I will bring you out from
-
under the burden of all the Egyptians. There's a cup of judgments. I'll
-
deliver you from their bondage. There's a cup of redemption. I will redeem
-
you with an outstretched arm and with the great judgments. And the cup of
-
praise. I'll take you for my people, and you will be and I
-
will be your God. All these four cups, and that's only part of
-
the pass ever story total part of our story with Christ. There's another cup
-
which is called the Cup of Elijah. And this cup is usually poor at
-
the end of the Sada, and it's only Elijah or something come in the
-
spirit of Elijah can drink it. I Jesus is sure. I'm a shier.
-
I'm going back to Luke twenty two. Jesus and his disciples already partaken
-
of the first two cups and enjoyed the passover meal out of the third cup
-
after the Apo comin representing his body, the cup of redemption that Jesus took
-
after supper. So when he broke the bread that was the Apo coombe,
-
it had taken out, which would represented his body. So his body broken.
-
That's what he passed around and they took the third cup, a cup
-
of redemption. He said, it's a new covenant in my blood which is
-
poured out for you. And the during the Jewish mindset new covenant. What
-
does that mean? They knew about the cups all their lives. He took
-
the third cup, it's the new covenant. But the words she was going
-
to cut the covenant in his blood, not in the butther of sheeps and
-
of goats, but his blood, and they died in the cross. There
-
were three bits of blood like on the doorpost. There's the lintel in the
-
doorpost. He pointed up. Now there three which pointed down. God came
-
down from heaven to earth to die on a cross, to cut a new
-
covenant that we might have a relationship with him. Hebrews eight eight says that
-
he's the mediator of a better covenant established with better promises my paraphrase. So
-
it's a better covenant with better promises. Like I said, a covenant's cut
-
between two parties, in this case, between God the Father and God the
-
Son. He has cut once in his blood, and that bud has taken
-
from the mercy seat in heaven. And I said to Mary, do not
-
touch me, because I ascend it to my father and your father. And
-
they said later, I alan a flesh and bone, because he's buds in
-
heaven on a mercy seat. Sue, as believers, we need to recognize
-
our covenant benefits when we give our lives to him. When we pray that
-
prayer, not only are our sins forgiven once and for all, we are
-
healed. We have his peace we have his joy, we have his provision.
-
Many people just go for step one mm. They received him as their
-
Lord and as their savior. They don't go to the next step and the
-
next step and the next step. John ten ten says, the thief comes
-
not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy. I am come.
-
They might have life, life to the full soil it overflows, the
-
amplifier says, or a dood life. You haven't abundant life unless you appropriate
-
your covenant benefits. M hmmm hm. This book is a book of two
-
covenants, the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. This book records what our
-
covenant benefits are. We appropriate them by faith. So next time we take
-
communion, let's consider the meaning and the wider context of communion. We just
-
see one cup and some bread, But in reality, that one piece of
-
bread was the after coming, and that one cup there's a cup of redemption.
-
M. It's a stretch in faith to believe and receive what God is
-
appropriated for us through the blood of his son. If you don't know him
-
today, you can do. That's the first part, isn't it. Jesus
-
take my life, give him my sins. Come into my life. Film
-
with your holy spirits. As simple as that. That's the first part.
-
The second part is receiving his peace, his forgiveness, is blessing his wholeness
-
true the worst of I thought thought saying, the spirit of healing here today
-
to heal people. If you're listening online, God is a spirit. You
-
can do your business with him. Reach out in faith and receive your healing
-
from him this morning in this room you can reach out of faith or turn
-
something next you ask him to pray for you. Glad it's here by his
-
spirit today he wants to do something different that must take it to the next
-
level. Are you willing to respond to God this morning? If you have
-
a need, he want you to reach out and see that need. Mess.
-
Jesus died a very grizzly yeah, mm hmm, and he was disgorged.
-
What's good, So it's probably his August would probably showed when he walked
-
to the cross. H Those nails in his in his hands and his feet
-
were very big nails. You can see through them. He did that for
-
you, and he did that for me. Mhm. So that you can
-
be whole, so that you can be free. Yeah. So today have
-
a need, reach out to Jesus in faith, in prayer. Don't look
-
at me, focus on what, Focus on Him. If you've got a
-
need m hm, and release your faith and believe to receive that need.
-
God, there's a spirit Jesus wants to meet your needs and they make you
-
hope. I wanted to be a want to bless you because then the people
-
around you will see you and ask you what is it about you? But
-
it's different. So I'm gonna close a preach now. Trust God to meet
-
you and a where a part of your need mhm, mhm m. Thank
-
you for the spirit for flowing through our Mother's i to feed us with the
-
truth that sets us free. It's only the truth that we've had and believed
-
and used that will set us free. If we leave it on the shelf,
-
it will not touch our buddies. Thank you, sir,
