Yes, yes, good morning everybody. Welcome to running me Christian Fellowship.

My name's Dave, and I'm going to be sharing the word this morning.

It wasn't the plan that we had. One of our former elders, show

of Shunoiki, was meant to be coming and speaking to us this morning.

You might have seen a video suggesting he was coming. We'd even put some

videos out there to suggest that, and then he sent me is it.

They live in Berlin and they're part of a church in Berlin, and they're

taking their daughter to Bath University this weekend. So they were meant to be

flying into Heathrow yesterday morning and then taking Lolla down to Bath and then coming

back and sharing Sunday with us. He messaged me yesterday morning and said,

Dave, the plane's been canceled. We'll be we'll be taking Lola to Bath

Sunday afternoon, so won't be joining us for lunch. And then later on

in the day got a message saying, uh, sorry, we can't come

at all. All the planes have been canceled. So I don't know what's

going on in Berlin, but anyway, I share that really because God's got

a plan. So something happened, and the enemy trying to stop trying to

come and sharing something. But you know what, I've reached out to our

leadership team and said, does anybody got anything to share? And as I

prayed, I felt God say, Dave, you need to speak this morning,

and I really I didn't take me long because I just had something from

God. So this is really where I'm coming from. We've been focusing on

harvesting for the whole of September, and you cannot harvest unless someone has sown

some seed somewhere, whether it's a bird, whether it's you, whether it's

the farmer, whoever it is. We cannot harvest unless seed has been sown.

And so I really want to kind of go back. So I know

we're focusing on harvesting, but I want to focus on harvesting because of sowing

and reaping. And I want to do this in the context of where we

are as a church where we do so some folk this morning are probably thinking,

all this is a bit different. Well, it is a bit different

because God builds every church differently, and I hope that some of you will

call us CF home over the time. We are not where we are,

not where we are surprised about where we were at. I'll be honest with

you. Seven eight months ago, maybe a little longer, we had no

live worship in the room, and we've been praying for worship leaders, and

then suddenly some of our friends started arriving. And you guys are here because

of prayer. You're not here because of a job, terriot, You're not

here because of of course some you're here because of prayer. And ye know,

we prayed and God answered that prayer, and you are part of what

God's doing, that God's bringing other worshippers to us as well, other people

who are gifted in different ways. And one of the things somebody asked me

in the week, said, Dave, what happens when this room is full?

I said, well, we have an evening service and we ask people

to come to either. So what happened when both of those are all?

They said, Well, there's a hall just down the car park that we

can use, and we're already talking to them about possibly using that. We

have a big car park outside church. We probably had the biggest car park

outside any church in Egan. So there's no limitation in there. There's no

limitation electronically We've been streaming long before COVID came along, and we have friends

and people who are part of who we are as church from around the world.

So I want to start by making a bit of a statement saying this,

and it's how do you think about today? How do you think about

today? Today is the father of tomorrow. Why do I say that because

actually what we do today sets the scene for what's going to happen tomorrow.

So right now, the windows on this building are being painted. If you

can smell a bit of a paint smell, that's not the way it normally

smell. Else the windows are being painted, and the guys who are coming

to paint it, the first thing they've got to do is sand it down

and fill the holes. Now, there's no point in just turning up and

just painting. That's not going to last. That's no good. So what

we do today, now, if they do a good job on the first

day and dig out all the holes and fill in all the gaps and sand

things, then it's ready to be painted. And so today is the father

of tomorrow. And so what we're doing today, what seeds we're sewing today

actually bear fruit in the days ahead. Part of who we are as a

church is because of prayer. We love sewing into other churches, being connected

with other churches around the world. Had the privilege this week of sharing with

the church in Woking, and some of you came and joined us as we

prophesied into the church and brought Clem, who's our covering, to come and

speak into that church. God spoke. I mean, we didn't know these

people, but afterwards people are coming up to me saying, how did you

know that? So well, it's God. It's God that speaks into circumstances

and situations. It's God that releases to us his spirit to touch our lives.

And let me give you just a context of Father. Today's the Father

of tomorrow. We read in Judges chapter two, verses one to four.

And the Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim and said,

I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I

swore to your father's. And I said, I will never break my covenant

with you, and you shall make no covenant with oops jumped ahead there,

and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall

tear down their altars, But you have not obeyed my voice. Why have

you done this? Therefore, I also said, I will not drive them

out before you, but they shall be thorns in your side, and their

God shall be a snare to you. So it was then the Angel of

the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people

lift up their voices and wept. This is a consequence of what they had

sown. Before they had sown and separated from God. They had set themselves

apart, and as a consequence, they're reaping what they were sowing. And

I want to ask us a question. I wonder I don't just want this

to be something that's a bit theoretical. What seeds are we sowing in friendship

and relationship, in investment of the future, in the way we pray and

the way we talk to God. God is for us. He's not against

us. God is with us. And that includes those students in the room,

those students listing online, those listening from around the world. God is

with you. And as God is with you, press into your destiny.

Pray that you walk the way that God will you to walk. Press into

Him and see what He will do in Galatians. It's written, do not

be deceived. Guard is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, he

will also rip. I'm not a gardener. Julia's the gardener in our house.

I clear. She does all the pruning and stuff, and I clear

up the mess and take it to the tip. That's what I do.

But I do know that seed makes a difference. I do know that seed,

when planted in good soil, bears fruit, brings forth, flowers brings

forth beauty. And not everything in our garden was planted there by Julia in

a particular place. We have some budley as appearing in different places around the

garden. Buddley as they're known as the butterfly plant, and they're covered in

butterflies. They are beautiful, but they're also rampant. And so we had

one in the back garden and it got really really big, and we ripped

it out, got rid of it, and we've got at least two or

three more growing around the garden. Now, Jinny didn't plant it. I

didn't plant it. How did it happen? Well, I would suggest some

birds got onto the flowers, and the seeds have been spread around the garden

and sometimes things end up where you don't want them to be. We might

call them weeds plants in unexpected places, but they're still beautiful. So let

me encourage you reap so and there you will reap. Let me read this

in a different version, now, in the amplified version. Do not be

deceived and deluded and misled. God will not allow himself to be sneered at

scorn, disdained or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by his precepts

being set aside. He inevitably deludes himself. Who attempts to delude God?

For whatever a man sows, that and only that is what he will reap.

I want to encourage us to sew, to sow with purpose, to

sow with destiny, to sow with generosity. If you've ever got some of

those packs of seeds, and you open them up and you look inside and

go, there are any seeds in here, because they're so small, and

then you tip them out in your hand. Some people will just sprinkle them

liberally everywhere, and others will take one seed at a time and put them

in planters, and they'll nurture them and water them and look after them,

and they'll they'll grow, and they'll bear fruits, and they'll bring forth flowers.

In Two Corinthians, Chapter five, verse ten, for one day we

will be openly revealed before Christ on his so that each of us will duly

be recompense for our actions done in this life, whether good or worthless,

again, reaping what we sow. I want to give you some points now

as to thinking about this. We reap what we sew. We know that

to be true. But also in the Kingdom we reap more than we sow.

Why because God's are God and multiplication. It's amazing. I don't know

whether you've ever done this calculation, but I've been told it's a Chinese story

that imagine a chessboard, sixty four squares on the chessboard, and one person

was asked, would you like a bag of rice on each square? And

he thought, yeah, I'll get sixty four bags of rice. That's good.

Another gentleman asked, well, I'm going to give you instead of a

bag of rice on each square, I'm going to give you a grain of

rice on the first square, and two grains of rice on the second square,

and four grains of rice and keep on going. Now, which would

you rather have sixty four bags of rice, or the grains doubling, the

grains doubling. It's incredible what numbers you get to. I can't even do

the mass. When you get beyond I don't know two to the power of

sixteen, I kind of lose that kind of ability to kind of calculate those

things. But multiplication truly brings forth fruitfulness. So we reap more than we

sew. We also reap after we sew. You've got to sew first.

You've got to You've got to sew first so that there can be a reaping.

We have a lemon tree in our back garden, and I'm fascinated because

we got given it and it bore fruit, had flowers and then they turned

into a little fruit and they've grown into big fruit. But I didn't know

a lemon tree continually fruits. So on the tree are fully functioning lemons,

baby lemons, and flowers all on the tree, all at the same time.

I mean, that's fruitful ness for me. Wow. We reap after

we sow, and we reap beyond where we sow. Keros's dad is a

farmer down Inke lives on a farm down in devon twenty five thousand chickens.

I think you were telling me, yes, twenty five thousand chickens, quite

a few cows. But do you know what, when they're sowing grass seed

to bring forth silage, that seed will go everywhere. It'll go everywhere,

and Ben will drive the tract and will be spreading out seed and it will

but it will go everywhere. So grass will start to grow underneath the bushes,

and so even where we don't think we sow, there will be a

harvest. In my sense, there's we've been as a church sewing in lots

of different ways, sewing with technology, and we touched nations around the world.

Now not just one or two or three or four, but we now

have people who you will not see in the room here on Sunday because they're

part of who we are. But they're connected remotely. And as they're connected

remotely, we're plugging into them, sharing with them, sharing scripture with them,

sharing Bible studies with them. One of the beauties of one of the

beauties of the Internet is zoom and teams. We can do Bible studies any

time of the day. I was joking, we had a Bible study on

Tuesday, our daytime Bible study on Tuesday, and I was saying to the

group there and remind me has been There was somebody there from Edinburgh, somebody

there from Lincolnshire, somebody they're from Carlisle, so you know, different different

counties around around the country. And we were jokingly talking about we might have

a Bible study at four o'clock in the morning. Why would you have a

Bible study at four o'clock in the morning, or because that's with India and

so and for the early morning people, that might work out very nicely.

I'm not an early morning person by the way, but so we read beyond,

far beyond where we sew. I had the privilege of sitting down in

a meeting six seven weeks ago in London, and I sat on a table

and a gentleman came and sat next to me said hello, Dave, and

I looked at him. Now, my memory is not brilliant, so I'm

looking at and thinking do I know you? And I had to be honest,

I'm sorry, I can't place you. How do we know one?

Now that he said, well, we've never met before, said oh,

how do you know? I'm Dave? Then he said well, I've been

watching you on LinkedIn. Oh okay, yeah, I said, how did

you find me on LinkedIn? He said, well, because your church church

is broadcasting on LinkedIn and a friend of mine shared it with me. He

said, I've not been going to church. I used to go to church

when I was younger, but I've not been going to church. But can

I start to come and hang out with you? And yeah, of course

you can. He said, I don't live in Sorry. I said,

that's fine. So where do you live? He said, up New York?

Yeah, still welcome to join us. And so there's some seed that's

been sown and I didn't sow it. A friend of mine send him the

link. Someone I work with sent him the link. So this seed,

the seed of God, is going out as we share, to different countries,

different places, different people, and that's having an effect in lots of

different ways. Matthew, Chapter thirteen, verse twenty three. And this is

the multiplication of God, as Letty quoted at the beginning, but a different

verse. But he who received the seed of good ground is he who hears

the word and understanding it, who hears bears fruit and produces some one hundred

and some sixty some thirtyfold. Those are big numbers. Thirty sixty one hundredfold.

That's a big multiplication. So I want to encourage you sow seed,

be intentional, carry seed with you. Some of you may have already been

given some of these, but these are all seeds. These are all seeds

for us as a church. We like to be generous as a church,

so we have some things we like to give away. And I always have

a pen in my bag. And what happens, I'm standing there and somebody

says, oh, maybe I'm asking them to sign a form more. They're

standing there looking to fill out of some kind of detail and they need a

pen. I'd reached into my pocket. So they go. And then of

course what do they do when they finish using the pen, try and give

it back to me, and I say no, no, you keep it.

And it's the same with I carry one of these in my wallet all

the time. It's a magnifier. You know the small print today, there's

always read the small print. Well, I saw somebody in Tesco's about three

weeks ago and they were struggling. They were doing this with the packaging.

They were struggling to read it and so I went to my wallet, I

got out of the magnify and I said, here you are, maybe this

will help. And then once they worked out how to use it, I

went thank you. And then what did they want to do? They wanted

to give it back to me, said no, no, you keep it.

These are all seeds. Every one of them talks about helping you to

helping you to have a clearer vision, helping you to write down destiny,

helping you to carry your load, and helping you to quench your thirst.

As we sang from as the deer pants for the water. They're all seats.

But do you know what if they all stay in the cupboard here at

Virginia Lodge, then they're all marketing materials. Seed is only useful in the

sower's hands. I want to encourage everybody new people, please take a mug

and a pen. Feel free to do so. People who have been here

many years, have you got a mug? Who's the mug for? It's

not for you, it's for you to give away. Who's the pen for?

It's not for you, it's for you to give away. Of course

you can have a pen. Of course you can have a mug. But

it's the seed. I want to place seed in your hand. Now you

might say, well, how is that seed of the Lord. It's just

a mug, It's just a pen gin. Know what often follows when people

say, well, why would you want to give it to me? Why

don't you want it back? Or said, because God loves you and you

find a place to share your faith in your way, don't need to give

you scripts. It is not about scripts now, but it's about sharing our

faith in different ways, placing seed in people's hands. Hoosier, chapter ten,

verse twelve says this, So for yourself righteousness, reap in mercy.

See break up your fellow ground, for it's time to seek the Lord till

he comes to reign in righteousness on you. So for yourselves righteousness, reap

in mercy. I just don't think there's enough mercy in the world today.

We need more grace. We need more grace released, more the grace of

God, more of His love. What Some of the things we believe as

Christians are counterculture today, they're not the norms. We've had a number of

times where people have said to me, Dave, stand up for yourself fights,

and I go, why, Actually, that's not loving in circumstances.

Somettimes we like to win the argument. You felt that at any point this

week where you work, I'm right, and I need to win the argument.

Sometimes, some times compassion needs to flow. Sometimes the love of God

needs to flow. Sometimes God's spirit needs to move through us that his love

would touch others' lives. I had the privilege you're working for software company a

number of years ago, and I was sitting in a room full of people

and we were struggling with some ideas. And then as I was sitting there

thinking, okay, Lord, we need an answer here now, the room

was not full of Christians. I think I was probably the only Christian in

the room, and I prayed. I just had this picture drop into my

mind. I got up and started drawing on the whiteboard and just started sharing

an idea and working it out, and people going, that's interesting, Dave

never thought of that. In the end, we said, well, why

don't we give it a go? And I said, look, I'd just

like you to what I'd like you to do is just take a note of

when this idea got sown, and let's see what happens. After a few

months, the project was running it was up and running bearing fruit. As

far as I know, the project is still running nearly fourteen years later.

I don't want to bring the glory to me. This is not about me.

I was just the mouthpiece in the room because it happened again over a

period of months and years, another idea, and then another idea, and

then somebody said to me, Dave, where do you get your ideas from?

I said, let's have a coffee. I didn't want to say across

the room in front of a whole bunch of people, God spoke to me.

But I did want to say that. I didn't want to say I

just I felt it was something that God gave me, and I did.

I sat down with him, had a coffee and just said, I'm a

Christian. I pray, and I believe God answers prayers. I believe God

can speak to us a big leave. God can speak through us in miraculous

ways. And if you don't believe that, then let me share a story

of a church that's part of our network of Life Links international work. We're

part of a Life an international network of churches, and one of the churches

is part of our network is in Gosh in Indiana and one of the men

in the church started having dreams. He started having dreams and seeing particular chemical

formulas. He wasn't a chemist, and he went to one of the teachers

at one of the academic staff at one of the local colleges and said,

I don't know what this is, but and he started writing it out,

and the guy said, that's a chemical formula is I don't know what it's

for, but why don't you write it all out? So he wrote out

the chemical formula and then they took it to a couple of places, and

they took it to a couple of other places, and eventually they took it

to a company that makes ceramic tiles. As a chemist was there because it

looked like it was something to through with ceramic tiles, and the guy said,

where did you get this? And they got talking to the company.

He said, where did you get this formula? Said why? I said,

because we've been researching this for years. He said where did you get

this chemical formula? Front and the guides couldn't lie. He just said,

I had it in a dream. Just believe it was something from God.

And the guy said, well, it's what we've been working on plus a

little bit. I'm not a chemist, so I'm not going to even pretend

I understand what's going on here. But the point is there was a chemical

formula that was completed in this dream, and this company created these tiles,

and these tiles became the tiles on the outside of the space shuttle. So

when it comes back into land, when it comes through the outer atmosphere gets

very, very very hot, and there was something about the outside of the

Space Shuttle getting too hot. And this is one of the formulas that helped

us save, that helped us resolve that it came from a dream. God's

an amazing god. He can do incredible things, and I wonder what incredible

things you're believing him for. So for those who are students at Royal Holloway,

maybe you're into your first year. Tomorrow is going to be your first

day of going into classes. Possibly, what are you believing for in your

three years here? At three or four or maybe more years a rural Holloway.

Maybe you're believing for a degree, maybe for a good degree, But

couldn't we believe for much more than that. Friends whose lives would be changed,

friendships that will last forever, friendships that will make a difference, making

a difference to your community, to your course, maybe even to nations.

Our young adults group that meets every other Wednesday, International Young Yes, thank

you, I was thinking and International Young Adults. Part of the thing we

as a church pressed into is that we've recognize that we've had many many Master's

students who've come and joined us well and PhD students as well from overseats,

and they come with us for a year and then typically they've gone somewhere else.

We suddenly realized that actually we can reach into China very easily as Chinese

students come if we speak and share our faith with those students they've come to

faith and then go back to China. You know, we've already got a

VPN set up so they can watch the service safely without being compromised. These

are the kind of things that we can We can get into church the size

of church we are, We can start talking church planting. We can do

that. We did have for a very very short period a small group in

Venezuela. We had a lady Letty, a friend who went to Venezuela,

and she said, could I have a small group in Venezuela, and she

did for a while. She had a small group in Venezuela that we sent

her encouragement from and reached out to her and encourage. So where could we

go? What could God do? There are friends that you will meet,

There are friends that will come to these church. There are people who will

come to the church who will end up in other parts of the world that

you've never been to and may never go to. But you and I could

have an influence as we sow the seed of God into other people's lives.

Now I'm not just talking about the word of God. I'm also talking about

the things that we do, loving people, serving people, caring for people.

Jill here at the front. She's a great encourager. She encourages us.

She does that. She serves the tea and coffee when we have tea

and coffee together after church, and you're welcome to stay for tea and coffee

after church today. But that's the gift that she has, and who knows

who that will reach. I remember being in Tenerife with you, Jill,

and we were in a Spanish church and after the service there was tea in

coffee and I looked across the room and I saw Jill deep in conversation with

somebody else, and I'm thinking, I know, Jill doesn't speak Spanish,

so a little miracle's probably just happened. She's found somebody who speaks good English.

Because they were head to head talking away, and I reached and nudged

the person standing next to me who's from the local church, and said,

excuse me, that lady over there, does she speak English? She said,

not as far as I know, and she didn't. But Jill and

her were having a conversation. They were sharing more than just words. They

were sharing faith, they were sharing encouragement. Body language was communicating the love

and the power of God. So I want to encourage us today to think

about sowing seed, because if we sow seed, there will be a harvest.

And the final kind of a little bit I want to bring out here

is this is Scripture does not say so there and you will reap there.

It doesn't say that, it says so and you will reap. And there

are many examples. We did and an alpha course a number of years ago

with Saint John's and we decided we'd deliver some leaflets to certain streets and we

don't think we had anybody from the streets that we delivered leaflets too come to

the Alpha course. But what did happen was a couple of those leaflets who

we did deliver got passed on to somebody else, and those people came to

the Alpha course. Scripture does not say so, and there you will reap

and so, but it also says so don't Does scripture say so sparingly?

No, scripture. I think God's kingdom is a kingdom of generosity. And

actually, if if you have a packet of seeds and are thinking I'll keep

a few back, I'd encourage you to sew them and believe for more,

trust, for more, hope for more. God's a great God, and

God has a great plan for you, guys. Those who are those who

are moving into Eggin for the first time, hopefully fresh as weak has gone

well. And for those who are listing as well, we hope that your

first week at university is going well and that you're settling down making some good

friends. But I want to encourage you sow some seats. Sow some seats

and see what God will do. So then with faith, be intentional.

Sometimes God will say so here Sometimes you feel you need to stop and linger

for a while and you'll have a conversation. I ended up being on campus

quite late last night for unexpected reasons. And as I was standing there waiting

to talk to somebody, some of the students who are in the fresh as

ball were coming out and I was standing talking to a couple of them.

It wasn't where I planned to be. I hadn't gone out there thinking outreach

at all, if I'm honest. This was late at night. But as

I was having the conversation, I felt God say, so some seeds,

they sow some seeds. So I did. I did have a pen in

my pocket. Strangely enough, I gave it away God to good God.

God has seed for us to sew, and good soil will bring forth good

fruit. I sense in the spirit that I see green shoots all over the

place right now. What does scripture say? Scripture says, the harvest is

ready, the harvest is plentiful. Depending on which translation you prefer, pray

for the harvest. No, pray for the workers, those who are going

to go out to bring in the harvest. I mentioned Ben earlier on.

I know Ben in harvest season when he's cutting the silage or doing some of

those other things. He will be up early and I'll be working through the

day and into the night, driving a tractor in a field, sometimes with

the headlights on. Now that sounds crazy to anybody who's not a farmer,

but when you've got long days and you've got to get the harvest in,

you just got to get out there and do it. If the silage is

ready to be cut and ready to be brought in, and it's going to

rain in three days time, you need to bring it in. You can't

say, well, i'll wait too late. It's gone. The harvest has

gone bad. We've all probably had at different times we've opened our fridge,

we've looked into our fruit bowl and there's some oranges and some bananas and some

apples, and then eventually you come across an apple at the bottom that's been

there for a little while. Maybe it's shriveled or maybe it's gone brown,

but it's not edible. Now, let's pay attention to the harvest. Let's

pay attention to the harvest. Some parts of the field will be more ready

to be harvested than others, and that's where we need to listen to God,

where do we need to pause and linger and where do we need to

move on? Because actually, this, this banana, this this this fruit

is not right right yet. So we reap what we sow. We reap

more than what we sow. We reap after we sow, and we reap

beyond where we sow. But so, but so, let me pray,

Father. I want to thank you that we are where we are because others

have gone before us. Nor we are where we are because others have laid

foundations upon which we've built. We are where we are because we'd soon the

seed last year and the harvest is this year. And so Father, I

pray for willing hands and willing hearts, willing lives to share love, to

show hope, to spread the good news, and to press into being who

you've called us to be. Father. Want to pray for all those who

are stepping into a new season. Father, help them to have their eyes

on what you're calling them to do and to be in Jesus. Amen.

I just want to pray about a couple of things as I kind of bring

this to a close. One thing I'd like to do is just for anybody

who's studying at GOT children at is already at Royal Holloway or even working at

Royal Holloway or has a heart for students at Royal Holloway. Ask you just

to stand and we're just going to pray together. I'm just going to pray

together for what happens on campus. You know there's thousands of people who work

and study on campus. Just want to pray for the seeds that you will

sow, the conversations that you will have, the things that you will do.

And so for those who are still sitting down, maybe you reach out

your hands in a direction of somebody you see standing, because we're going to

pray right now. We're going to regard to move in and through these folk.

Father, I thank you well. I thank you for the fact that

we have a university here in Egan. Father, I thank you for the

opportunity to touch the world through this campus. Lord God and Father, we

pray for your word to go out with authority and power right across the campus,

not just from our CF through every church that touches all Holloway, through

the chaplaincy, through the Christian Union. Lord God, I pray your word

will go out with power, Lord God, change lives be spoken in seminars

and lecture theaters. Father, I pray that we would bring down the battle

of spiritual correctness, Lord God, that the name of Jesus would be lifted

high. And so, Father, I pray for everyone standing, whether they

want to be part of what's going on, whether they're students, whether the

studying staff. Lord, I pray that Lord, you'd open their eyes to

see what you want them to see. Equip them for the days ahead,

give them wisdom when to speak and when to keep silent. Lead them to

places where they plant seed in copy shops, in lecture theaters, in seminars.

Let them so see, Lord God, that will bear fruit and bring

forth lives changed and hopefully even the campus changed by your glory. So,

Father, I thank you for everyone standing. I thank you for the international

Young Adults group that starting in this church. Lord has been running for a

sorry starting start rebuilding as he pressing your academic year. And so Father,

I pray that there will be great fruitfulness and great connection. Lord, we

pray for your favor upon each of those things. Pray for the staff group

on campus too, Lord, we pray that that would thrive and flourish in

Jesus' name, We pray for the Christian Union Lord, that will be meeting
