  1. Week. If you have your valuables, I hope that you do. If

  2. you'll turn with me to Acts Chapter two, Acts Chapter two, We're going

  3. to start in verse fourteen in just a moment asked Chapter two. So we've

  4. been in our study through the books of a Book of Acts for probably if

  5. a month or so now, and want to pick up this morning where we

  6. lost last left off last week entitled My Sermon Today is the Coming of the

  7. Holy Spirit, Part two, and so this morning we're looking at Pentecost and

  8. what happened at Pentecost, and so today I want to continue just to see

  9. what happened that day and what God did through the Holy Spirit. I don't

  10. know about you, but you know, throughout our lives we kind of encounter

  11. kids and children, and me as as an elementary student. As an elementary

  12. kid, you remember kids who were just troubled, kids, always in trouble.

  13. As you grow up, you you also continue to see that in teenage

  14. years and then even in your career as older adults, should seem like there's

  15. some that just seem like always in trouble. Sometimes that's those in our community,

  16. sometimes it's in our family in and it seemed like some that people,

  17. they just their lives are just surrounded by trouble. They just have a lot

  18. of trouble. And some of those people are our family members, our loved

  19. ones, our neighbors, and and the heart breaks for them. We really

  20. want to see because all the trouble they face and they've just continued to be

  21. in We really want to see them come to know the Lord. And maybe

  22. you've even thought, man, if they would just get saved, maybe some

  23. things would turn around in their life, and maybe that's been our prayer.

  24. But sometimes with those are troubled, sometimes there comes confusion when things of God.

  25. They're confused about the things of God. Heard the story of a two

  26. little boys named Johnny and Timmy. Johnny and Timmy just like that, they

  27. were just kids, always in trouble, just always have gotten in trouble at

  28. school, at trouble at home, and and but they just they got confused

  29. at times about the things of God. Well, one day the parents decided

  30. Johnny was the oldest and Timmy was the younger brother. And the mom and

  31. dad says, we're gonna take Johnny and Timmy to the preacher and say,

  32. you know, they need the Lords. They get the Lord. Maybe they'll

  33. fix some of those problems they were having. So took Johnny had Johnny's Johny's

  34. gonna be there at ten o'clock. Timmy's gonna be there at eleven. Johnny

  35. came in and he was met with the pastor, and the pastor looked at

  36. Johnny and said, Johnny, where is God? John just kind of looked

  37. at him, didn't say a word. He gave Johnny a few minutes.

  38. Johnny didn't say anything. He looked Johnny again. He said, Johnny,

  39. where is God? Johnny just looked at him and terrified, just confused,

  40. perplexed. He gave him a few more minutes. Johnny didn't respond. Finally,

  41. he looked at Johnny the third time. He said, Johnny, where

  42. is God? Johnny looked at him. It's afraid. By the time,

  43. Johnny took off, ran out of preacher's office, ran down the street,

  44. ran into the house, ran into his house and ran it to the second

  45. story and was in the middle of the hallway, shaken and trembling. Timmy

  46. was scared. He knew he was coming up the next hour. He ran

  47. up to Johnny and said, Johnny, Johnny, what is wrong? Johnny

  48. Johnny just looked at him, dazed and confused. He said, Timmy,

  49. I talked to the preacher. They have lost God and they thought we had

  50. something to do with it. You know. Sometimes, you know there's people

  51. who just get in trouble, when they get in trouble and getting confused by

  52. the things of the Lord. But the reality is, we want those who

  53. are in trouble to find the Lord, right, we really do. We

  54. desired them to come to know the Lord, not to be confused about the

  55. grace and mercy of God and redemption can be found in Jesus. And I

  56. really believe today as you come here, there are some people in your life

  57. that's that's your prayer for them. May it had not been as much as

  58. trouble as Johnny and Timmy, but they've been in trouble and they don't know

  59. the Lord, and your heart breaks for them. Well, this morning,

  60. I believe as we come to this passage scripture, you want to see an

  61. apostle named Peter, and his heart broke for thousands of thousands of Jews who

  62. were in trouble. And this morning he speaks a message. It's the first

  63. a message by Peter at Pentecost, and at that in that message, Peter

  64. desires to explain just the message of the Holy Spirit. And so as we

  65. saw last week, just a reminder, this is Pentecost. A Pentecost means

  66. fifty this is fifty days after the Passover. It's one of the pilgrimages into

  67. Jerusalem, with three pilgrimages that Jews were required to make. It's about one

  68. hundred and twenty people were gathered together believers at Pentecost in Jerusalem, and the

  69. Bible described last week the Holy Spirit came upon those one hundred and twenty believers,

  70. and when the spirit came they all received scripture, it's kind of spread,

  71. the scripture described it spread light fire among the believers. It just caught

  72. fire and just spread among everyone that was there. Scriptures explained last week.

  73. The all spoken tongues and tongues we explained last week were understood as a foreign

  74. language. Every believer received the Holy Spirit, All one d and twenty received

  75. it. All one hundred twenty spoken a foreign language. And we see that

  76. reference three different times in Acts and went through chapter one, I mean chapter

  77. two, one through thirteen, and we know what did they speak. They

  78. split the Gospel. The Bible says the Jews. Last week we saw the

  79. Jews heard the Holy Spirit come, but they were confused. And don't you

  80. see that? Look back with me before we read the text. Look at

  81. back back with me in verse five and six, and then we'll also look

  82. at twelve and thirteen says. Now they were dwelling in Jerusalem, Jews,

  83. devout men from every nation under heaven, and at the sound and the multitude

  84. come together. They were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak

  85. in his own language. In Verse seven says, and they were all amazing

  86. to standish, saying, are not these speaking Galileans? Are they not unnangered?

  87. Kid? How can they speak these foreign language? Look at verse eleven

  88. to twelve, and both Jews and proselytes, and and the Cretans and Arabians

  89. we hear them telling in our own language and mighty works of God. And

  90. verse twelve says, and all were amazing and perplexed and saying to one another,

  91. what does this mean? But others? Morton says, they're a field

  92. with new one. They had a lot of questions, these hues. How

  93. can they speak? They were uneducated? How can they speak in these new

  94. languages. And then secondly, what does this mean. Peter stands up preaches,

  95. seeking to explain what does this mean? I said to you last week,

  96. and I want to say to you again. You know, there's a

  97. lot of confusion when it comes to the work of Holy Spirit a lot of

  98. times in the life of the church, and some of that just frankly,

  99. is because of misinterpretation of scripture. But you see in this passage in Acts,

  100. there's no confusion among the believers about the work of Holy Spirit. The

  101. confusion is among the unbelievers. Peter stands up to speak to explain, last

  102. week we looked at the first work of the Holy Spirit. Peter stands up

  103. to speak and explain the first message of the Holy Spirit. Let's see what

  104. that is. Let's stand together and let's read God's word together, and this

  105. will be our passage for this morning. It's Acts, chapter fourteen. I

  106. was going to give you the four everything today, but I think you Appach

  107. should like to go to lunch at some point, so we're going to just

  108. start for twenty one and just the first part of the message here. But

  109. Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed him.

  110. Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to

  111. you, and give ear to my words, for these people are not drunk

  112. as you suppose. It's only the third hour of the day, but it's

  113. what was uttered through the Holy the prophet Joel. And the last days it

  114. shall be, God declares, I will pour out my spirit on all flesh,

  115. and your sons and your daughters shall prophesize, and your young men shall

  116. see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even on my male

  117. servants and female servants. In those days, I will pour out my spirit,

  118. and they shall propheside. And I will show you wonders and heavens above

  119. and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor smoke, and

  120. the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood. Before the

  121. day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day, and it shall

  122. come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be

  123. saved. Let's pray together, Father, I thank you Lord for this word

  124. today. I thank you for the passage you led us to. I thank

  125. you for the things that you've led my mind to study and prepare for this

  126. morning and the things that you've led me to write. And I pray that

  127. Lord, as I divide your word, I pray that'd be faithful to divide

  128. your word according to Lord your spirit to leave me, give me your spirit

  129. today, that you might feel me, that you might pour me out.

  130. Lord, as ten or prayed earlier, May I decrease and may you increase.

  131. Lord. You know I'm a simple man that needs you, savior,

  132. and Lord, I pray you cleanse me that you might use me today.

  133. Lord, I pray for us as we gather together as a congregation, we

  134. long Lord, not for a well prepared message the Lord. We pray for

  135. a message from you to God today. So Lord, I pray you would

  136. speak with clarity through the work of your Holy Spirit. And may that hears

  137. a day be open and attentive to Lord your word. Today in your name,

  138. we pray. Amen, you may be seated, so I want you

  139. to see first today just God's plan for the Holy Spirit as we walk through

  140. this passage. This is Some would say this Peter's sermon is the most theological,

  141. most important theological declarations of the entire New Testament, and this sermon that

  142. Peter stands up and preaches. He quotes, or he cites, if you

  143. will, three Old Testament passages, and his desire by quoting these Old Testament

  144. passages is to show that the events that has transpired, the things that they

  145. heard by these believers and them speaking in foreign language, was a fulfillment of

  146. God's promise. He wants them to understand this is God at work, This

  147. was God's plan, and he wants them to see first God's plan for the

  148. promised Holy Spirit. Peter look at verse as you as you look at verse

  149. fourteen, he says, But Peter standing with the eleven, lifted up his

  150. voice and addressed them for fourteen says that here Peter stands up. They're asking

  151. these questions, what does this mean? How can this be? Scripture describe

  152. them last week is perplexed bewildered, which is the idea of being amazed but

  153. also being confused. Peter sees this confusion. He sees this amazement, and

  154. he wants to respond to their question. So Scripture says verse fourteen, he's

  155. Peter standing with the eleven. It's neat that he mentions that he's with the

  156. disciples. There he lit up his voice to address them. This term here

  157. Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them.

  158. This addressed it's only used by Luke, and it's describing like a spirit inspired

  159. message. This is a message that the spear and fed Peter to give.

  160. It is very clear in this passage, Just to be clear that Peter is

  161. not speaking in a foreign language. Here, he's speaking directly at the crowd,

  162. and we see that in this passage Peter calls for their attention. Look

  163. at verse fourteen. But Peter is standing with the eleven, lifted up his

  164. voice and addressed him. Listen what he first says to them, men of

  165. Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, Listen to the words here two imperatives,

  166. he says, back to back. Let this be known to you,

  167. and give ear to my words. If he addressed them, there's probably there

  168. one hundred and twenty were filled with all his spirits, were speaking in foreign

  169. language. They were up to a million people in Jerusalem at Pentecost, and

  170. so we know that the scripture describes it was a gathering upon hearing the noise,

  171. probably hearing the different languages, these Jews gathered to where these twenty believers

  172. were all speaking in different language. They gathered together and they're all there,

  173. so there's probably thousands of Peter is speaking to and first thing he stands up

  174. and he says, he says listen. He says, let it be known

  175. to you. This is only used in the New Testament. It means pay

  176. close attention or listening closely. Peter wants them to hear what the Spirit has

  177. inspired him to say. M. C. T. Dodd was a New

  178. Testament scholar. He explains that here in this sermon that Peter has, this

  179. is known as one of the very first missionary speeches that's found throughout the Book

  180. of Throughout the Writing of Acts, we see Paul and other missionaries who would

  181. give these missionary speeches to explain the Gospel to different people groups as they went

  182. on their missionary journeys. He outlined different pattern of these speeches. I think

  183. it's important for you to see this because this is going to be a pattern

  184. that you're going to see as we walk through the Book of Acts. Ct

  185. Scott said that first part of the speeches, these missionary speech was the age

  186. of fulfillment has come. Second, it had the fulfillment had come through the

  187. life, death resurrection of Jesus. He explained the third part of these speeches

  188. was a speech about their resurrected asalted Jesus. Fourth part was the Holy Spirit

  189. was the sign of the Church's power. Fifth was that the messianic consummation came

  190. in Jesus's return. And then six the last part of the missionary speeches was

  191. always a call to repentance and forgiveness. Is sin to receive forgiveness the Holy

  192. Spirit in God's promise. Peter does this in this message. He's they're confused,

  193. they are looking for answers, and Peter seeks to give a message that

  194. explains the gospel, explains the message of Jesus. Look at what happens.

  195. In verse fifteen, he says, for these people, he first responds to

  196. the question that these are just these men who are speaking these foreign languages.

  197. They're just drunk, some would say, some unbelievers, some skeptics would say.

  198. In verse thirteen, Peter first respond, so, for these people not

  199. drunk as you suppose is for it is only the third hour of day.

  200. This idea that they were drunk. Peter just quickly dismisses that Jews would start

  201. counting time at sunrise. It so, for Peter is saying, it's third

  202. hour. It's the third hour from sunrise, so therefore it's only nine in

  203. the morning. Nine in the morning was the time of prayer for the Jews.

  204. They were an hour of prayer before breakfast, so this is the hour

  205. of prayer, and then from there they would go to breakfast. Peter is

  206. saying, listen, it's only nine in the morning, and we even even

  207. eaten. There's no way they're drunk with wine. And so that he dismisses

  208. those skeptical charges in verse thirteen. From verse thirteen, but listen to what

  209. Peter does here. In verse sixteen, he begins his message. He says,

  210. but this is what was uttered through the profit Joel. Peter uses this

  211. express and listen, look at it verse fourteen. But this is what this

  212. expression that he uses is. This is that he's explaining this, this work,

  213. is this manifestation of the Holy Spirit, this outpouring of the Holy Spirit,

  214. this speaking in tongues is that. And he's going to point to what

  215. that is. And for Peter, he's explaining, he's connecting these two together.

  216. What's happening through the outpouring the lily Spirit to the Old Testament scriptures.

  217. He's pointing to what's happened with the outpouring the Holy Spirit and its connection to

  218. the prophecy of Joel chapter two twenty eight through thirty two. So that's what

  219. he does. And verse seventeen he says this, the speaking in tongues,

  220. outpouring the Holy Spirit is that, and that is what Joel talked about.

  221. And look at what happens he in verse seventeen, Peter quotes the prophecy of

  222. Joel Joel two twenty eight through thirty two. And you can write that so

  223. you can look in look at that some other time, But first serventeen he

  224. begins that quote. And listen to the quote of Joel that Peter uses to

  225. connect this is a fulfillment of this prophecy. Look at what the prophecy said

  226. from Joel in the last days that shall be God declares that I will pour

  227. out my spirit on all flesh. Look at the first part of this again,

  228. he's connecting what's happening to in the work of the Holy Spirit to what

  229. Joel said. Joel said in the last days it shall be, God declares,

  230. as you remember as we've been studying through the Book of Acts for the

  231. disciples, they believe that the last days were inaugurated what and the death and

  232. resurrection of Jesus Christ, and also in his accension that when Jesus rose again,

  233. that and graded the last days. You remember I told you in a

  234. few weeks ago when we looked at that's. A parent from our academy asked

  235. me, pastor, with all the things that are in our world and everything

  236. that's happening today in our world, are we in the last days? And

  237. my answer is yes, we are in the last days. As soon as

  238. Jesus died, rose again and it sended that began the last days, and

  239. we are in the last days. Disciples understood that. And here Peter begins

  240. his message saying, listen, we are in the last days. That Jesus

  241. dying, Jesus rising again, Jesus ascending to heaven shows us that we are

  242. in the last days. But another sign that we are in the last days

  243. is that Holy Spirit has come his poured out on all. And listen to

  244. that. In the last days it shall be versus. Joel would say,

  245. God declares, and what's the sign of the last days? God declares,

  246. I will pore out my spirit on all flash. He's saying, listen.

  247. Joel prophesied that in the last days, the beginning of the Last Day,

  248. the Holy Spirit would come out. God would pour out his spirit upon and

  249. listen to description. I will pour out my spirit, pour out my spirit

  250. on what all flash. And that's what happened at Pentecosts. Right one hundred

  251. and twenty believers were there, gathered together. The Holy Spirit came and Scripture

  252. said it came like a rushing wind, you remember that. And it came

  253. like with fire. Scripture to cause tongues of fire. You remember, I

  254. explained to you last week they used the imagery of fire, because if you

  255. light a fire, it doesn't just stay in one place. What does it

  256. do? A fire spreads and the fire the Holy Spirit spread upon all believers.

  257. In Scripture described to us last week that all were speaking right, all

  258. were speaking in tongues, all received the Holy Spirit. And Joel prophets that

  259. look at what he says. Therefore, I pour out my spirit and all

  260. flesh. And here in these next few verses he describes just all who were

  261. going to receive it. Listen, all your sons and daughters shall prophesiese.

  262. Your young men shall see visions, your old men shall see dreams. Even

  263. my male servants and female services. In those days, I will pour out

  264. my spirit and they shall prophesy. Here Joel prophesies that the coming, and

  265. it's coming for every gender. It's coming for every age. It's coming for

  266. every class. If you look at the gender at the very beginning, it

  267. starts with your sons and daughters. That was the lowest of low as far

  268. as gender. There were the children, right, they were the ones who

  269. had not achieved anything. And so it's coming for even the children. Right.

  270. But it's also coming for the oldest of the group. Right, it's

  271. coming from your old men shall dream dreams. Right in verse eighteen, that's

  272. coming for the lowest of class, to the greatest of class, to the

  273. lowest verse eighteen. The male servants servants were often looked upon the lowest of

  274. society, the holy spirits coming from the lowest of society, and often women

  275. were ignored as a class in society. It's coming for listen there upon,

  276. my male servants and female servants. In those days, I will pour out

  277. my spirit and they shall propheside what happened in Acts. Everyone that was there

  278. at Pentecosts, everyone received it, young and old, lower class or upper

  279. class, male or female. All received the Holy Spirit, all spoken power,

  280. all spoken tongues. Acts. Pentecosts was a fulfillment of Joel and Peter

  281. saying, just as the prophets, the prophet Joel declared that in the last

  282. day the Holy Spirit would be poured out. What you're seeing today, what

  283. you heard today is a sign. Listen, the last days are here.

  284. The whole Spirit is here, and it's for all people. Look at what

  285. else it says. And once you see in verse nineteen, Peter wants you

  286. to see, I will show wonders in heaven and signs on earth below,

  287. blood and fire and vapor and smoke. Again, if you remember, when

  288. you think about the coming Kingdom of God, there was was starting in the

  289. last day. There's the beginning of the last day, but there's end,

  290. right So remember that with the Kingdom of God and the beginning of the Last

  291. days, there's the beginning of the last days, but there's always an end.

  292. We live what we call now and a not yet right now. The

  293. Holy Spirit has come. Now, the last days begun, but what there's

  294. coming, the consummation of the end right. And so in Joel's prophecy you

  295. see both. You see and now what's happening now, But she also sees

  296. yet that's to come, something to come, and that's what we call the

  297. consummation of the last Days or consummation of the Kingdom of God. And Joel's

  298. prophecy, we see that, we see them now, this is what's happening

  299. today, but this is what will happen in the future. And listen verse

  300. nineteen, and I will show wonder, show wonders in heaven and signs on

  301. the earth below. We see God at work. We see this now,

  302. this apoptolyptic or comes, this language of things, what it will be like

  303. at the end. Listen to the different descriptions that I always show wonders on

  304. heaven and above signs on the earth. So it gives us the imagery that

  305. earth will give signs at the consummation of the coming of the Lord. And

  306. we'll talk about that in just a minute. Listen the imagery. Here's are

  307. the signs blood, fire, vapor, and smoke. Blood in um Luke

  308. Luke uses it nineteen times through Luke in acts and all the most of the

  309. times Luke uses it for the idea of judgment. It's also seen the Old

  310. Testament as a sign of judgment. Fire is a word that's also used for

  311. judgment. Luke uses it every instance. That joke that Luke uses it in

  312. Luke in Acts is set one is used as an element of judgment Luke,

  313. seventeen twenty nine. But on that day when lot and went out from Sodom,

  314. fire and soul for reign from heaven and destroyed them all. Jesus speaking

  315. about what happened in Sodom and Gamora use fire as the imagery of judgment.

  316. Smoke is in thirteen references are all in connection to judgment. He's saying,

  317. in those last days and the consummation of all things, and the consummation of

  318. the last days, or the Kingdom of God, whatever term you want to

  319. use. In the end, there will be signs onto the earth, and

  320. those signs are pointing to what a coming judgment. He picks up this imagery

  321. further in verse twenty. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon

  322. to blood. Again. Here this imagery of um referencing a darkened sun and

  323. a bloody Moon, all associations with sun and darkness, all Uphill and Joel,

  324. and they all appear for judgment. For Joel, he wants us to

  325. see that. In verse nineteen, there's signs on Earth. Okay, follow

  326. that, there's signs on Earth the day of the Lord's coming. Judgment is

  327. coming, the end is coming. Verse twenty, there's cosmic signs. So

  328. you think about signs on the Earth, cosmic signs, signs in the galaxies

  329. and the Sun, the Moon, the stars. Those cosmic signs will give

  330. signs that the judgment is coming. This is what says. The Sun shall

  331. be turned to darkness and the moon to blood to blood. And here's here's

  332. the connection. Before the Day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent

  333. day, Joel was saying, on Earth, there will be signs the day

  334. of the Lord's coming. At the end, there will be signs and the

  335. galaxies and cosmic signs that will precede the rival of the Day of the Lord.

  336. What is Joel trying to say? And more importantly, what is Peter

  337. trying to say? Here? Again, he's standing before thousands upon thousands of

  338. Jews who are asking a question, what is this Holy Spirit? What is

  339. this speaking in tongues? What is happening here? How can this be?

  340. Peter says, this is a sign the Holy Spirit has come, and that

  341. Holy Spirit is showing you that we are in the last days. It has

  342. begun now. But the end is coming to and what will the end look

  343. like? There'll be signed in this earth. There will be signs in the

  344. stars that God's judgment is coming. And what is Peter saying? The clock

  345. is ticking, the end is coming. Judgment is coming. And secondly,

  346. what is Peter wanting them to see? That judgment will be comprehensive. All

  347. the earth will see the signs that all the galaxies will give declaration that God

  348. is judged coming. But hear me, Peter wants the Jews unknow the judgment

  349. will be comprehensive for all people. Listen to there, listen to the imagery

  350. here at the end, the day before the Lord comes, the great and

  351. magnificent day. You know, Peter, would you use these terms about the

  352. cosmic imagery the fire? Use that in second second Peter three in his letter

  353. three tenses. But the day of Lord will come like a thief. Then

  354. the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heaven bodies will be

  355. burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on

  356. it will be exposed. The judgment will be comprehensive. He wants them to

  357. know what is the message of the Holy Spirit. Well, the message of

  358. the Holy Spirit is what we are in the last days. The Holy Spirit

  359. has come and it's preparing us for the consummation of the last days. The

  360. God's judgment is coming, the clock is ticking. It will be comprehensive.

  361. And so what is his final message? His final message is you're in You're

  362. in trouble, but there's hope. And that's what the last verse of this

  363. passage gives. He says in verse twenty one, it shall come to pass

  364. that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The

  365. message for you, Jews, is this is all part of God's plan.

  366. This is all God's part of God's plan for the Holy Spirit. For you

  367. to understand that the last days have come and the day of the Lord is

  368. coming. And here's part of God's plan is that everyone who calls upon the

  369. name of the Lord shall be saved. The good news Jews is no matter

  370. whether you're in trouble, whether you're good or bad, you've lived a moral

  371. life or in moral life, where you've been religious or not being religious at

  372. all. Scripture says, all who call upon the name of the Lord be

  373. saved. It's neat that Peter and Joel use a description that throughout church tradition

  374. has been used to lead people in response to the Gospel. In Romans ten

  375. twelve through thirteen, Paul uses it in right into the Church at Rome.

  376. He says, for there's no distinction between the Jews and the Greek, for

  377. the same Lord as Lord of all, bestowing riches on all who call upon

  378. him. For everyone who calls upon the name the Lord will be saved.

  379. It's interesting here Joel uses this imagery of the name of the Lord here,

  380. and Peter attributes this Lord here as Jesus. Peter is saying, ultimately,

  381. the way to be delivered from the day, the coming day of the Lord

  382. is the call upon the name of Jesus and be saved. I wonder today

  383. as you and I hear the message of Peter, as we think about the

  384. work of the Holy Spirit, and is first coming the first message of the

  385. Holy Spirit, the message is we are in the last days. The message

  386. is the day of the Lord is coming. The message is call upon the

  387. name of Jesus and be saved. I wonder today what type of urgency that

  388. you have. I believe today that Peter, among those shoes that day,

  389. knew that there were thousands upon the thousands that were lost in Jerusalem, and

  390. there was an urgent message in his heart. They must hear because we're in

  391. the last days. I wonder for those people in your life that you see

  392. as troubled, lost without Jesus, do you have that same urgency that Peter

  393. has to tell them, Hey, we're in the last days, that they

  394. are Lord's coming, But there's hope, there's hope if you call upon the

  395. name of Jesus that you can be saved. What kind of urgency that you

  396. have as a believer to tell them, just as Peter told the Jews also

  397. believe. Secondly, there's those here today and you see the working only Spirit

  398. in other people's lives, maybe some people in our church, maybe some others

  399. in your family, but your life's been marked by trouble, and as you

  400. see the work of the Holy Spirit, maybe today the Lord is drawing upon

  401. you. The recognition that that work in the Holy Spirit in the lives of

  402. others is recognition that we are in the last days. Also recognition that there's

  403. coming a day of the Lord, there's coming judgment upon you, and that

  404. you have a responsibility to respond to the message of the Gospel that all who

  405. call upon the name will be saved. Says the day if you never except

  406. Jesus as your Lord's savior, will the day be the day that you call

  407. upon the name of the Lord. I want to close with the illustration.

  408. It's pretty common, pretty familiar illustration. It's a story that was time that

  409. Satan had a strategy session and he was trying to subvert those who were kind

  410. of close to making decisions for the lords close to salvation. And Satan asked,

  411. what shall we do? And a darn demon stood up? What do

  412. we do with these ones who are close to salvation? One of the demon

  413. stood up, stuff is that what do we do? And the asked Satan,

  414. And one stood up and says, I have it. I know what

  415. we can do. We could tell men that there's no life after death and

  416. that they'll die like animals. Satan face fell face and the answer that will

  417. never work. Man's ignorant. Even atheists admitted times that there is a sense

  418. of tomorrow after death. And the other demon spoke up says, there's I

  419. got a solution. He says, let's say there's no God and if there

  420. was, he's dead and even if he started the universe, he has left

  421. it now. Satan, discouraged, said that won't work either. Most men

  422. know that there's a God, even if they don't seek him. Other ideas

  423. were presented, but none really brought hope to Satan and his and his demons.

  424. Finally, as they were about to give up, one demon leap in

  425. glee. He said, I have it. I have a sure solution.

  426. Others demons crowded around to hear the plan. He says, go and tell

  427. them that God is real and the Bible is the word of God. A

  428. gas came upon all the demons. He says, tell them that Jesus is

  429. the son of God and he frees men from sin. The other demon is

  430. just horror that he would even say those words, thinking that he'd kind of

  431. gone nuts. Then he smiled then tell them that this is not the best

  432. time to choose Christ help them make excuses for delaying their decision and tell them

  433. it is no hurry the demons and delight realizing a workable plan had been discovered.

  434. You know that strategy is still being presented today. The strategy is you've

  435. got plenty of time. You've got plenty of time to tell your lost loved

  436. ones, those in trouble about Jesus. Our answer is today the Holy spirits

  437. declaring, we are in the last days. We must have an urgency to

  438. tell the Gospel. And there's the demons are still strategizing today. If your

  439. unbeliever the chief got more time. Today is a day of salvation. Everyone

  440. who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Will you call

  441. upon him today? Let's pray. Father, I thank you Lord for your

  442. word. Thank you Lord for what a beautiful passage of scripture, humbling passage

  443. of scripture. When we think about Pentecost and we think about the coming Holy

  444. Spirit, God will rejoice and just how you came in power and you filled

  445. us with the Holy Spirit. And we as believers a day have all received

  446. the Holy Spirit. And Lord, we know that as a sign Lord of

  447. your promise that you gave to Joel but it's also a sign that we are

  448. in the last days, and with the coming of the last days, there

  449. comes to a consummation the day the Lord is coming. God, you gave

  450. Peter her urgency to declare that God, you are the way the truth in

  451. life, and no one comes to the Father but by you, and everyone

  452. who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved to the Chief first

  453. and then to the gentile. Lord. You gave Peter boldness to declare that

  454. salvation had come through Jesus, and you called men to repentance to salvation.

  455. And Lord, today, that is our hope that were people who were in

  456. this room, where people were watching on TV today would no longer delay,

  457. but today they would put their faith in you for salvation and what you've done

  458. on the cross. Today they were deceived the promise of forgiveness, they received

  459. the promise of the Holy Spirit. Today they received the promises of God.

  460. So Lord, I pray there's someone here today in this room, or watching

  461. on TV or watching online today right where they are, Lord, I pray

  462. they will receive you as Lord and Savior. They would call upon your name

  463. Lord and be saved today. So Lord, I pray you leave some in

  464. that decision right now, right in this place. And Lord, I pray

  465. secondly, Lord that so often Lord, we think there's more time to tell

  466. our loved ones or our friend, or someone's in trouble about you, Lord

  467. Jesus, Lord, I pray that today that's a reminder. Lord, we

  468. are in the last days, and God, You've left us on this earth

  469. for such a time as this, that we might declare the goodness of the

  470. Gospel. So God, I pray we would not put off any longer,

  471. would not delay anymore. We were not cats the pass the buck to someone

  472. else to do it. Lord. Today we were standing boldly as Peter did,

  473. and declare, Lord, everyone who calls upon the name of Lord shall

  474. be saved. We useee the desperate state of the lostness in our community,

  475. in our state, in our world, and be passionate about standing up for

  476. the Gospel while there's still time left. So God, give us boldness Lord,

  477. to declare, we love You, lead us now this time. Invitation

  478. your name, we pray, Amen, Jesus, painting and all to
