Psalm 62

Yeah, if your Bible is turned with me to Psalm sixty two. That's

a passage at Tanner Red just a moment ago Psalms sixty two. We'll read

the whole passage together. We started last week, or I mentioned to you

last week we had a song. This is our first Sunday. We're going

to be through the rest of the month of November. We're going to be

in the som So today we're gonna start with Psalm sixty two. This is

a passage that the Lord led me to a few weeks ago, and I'm

excited to be with you and share it with you this morning. Now,

it seems like here around with ASDA, I don't know it happens. Most

of you know that our office is just across the street, and so we

walk back and forth between different meetings and different things from the office to here,

and it really seems like once a week this happens. And what happens

is as we're walking across the street, we hear a noise by a car

coming by, and almost every week there's somebody who comes around this corner with

a flat tire. I mean it's flat. I mean there's no life in

the tire, the going like it doesn't matter how loud it is, it

doesn't matter you They just keep going. And every time I see it,

I'm like, oh, Lord, is it gonna pop or we're gonna hear

a loud boom? Are they gonna you know, are they gonna make it?

And say every time I just say, prank Lord, Please help them

get the sheets if that's where they're headed, or miss your tire across the

street, down the street. But every week it seems like that happens.

We find someone who comes around the corner riding on a flat tire. And

you know, I don't know if you've had that happen to you before,

but I don't know if you've been in the car and that's happened. But

you you know, your car starts shaking, you start hearing noises, and

you don't know quite what's going on. And you have a choice. Then

you have a choice to be a lot like them. You could just say

I'm gonna ride it out, but you know what's happening, right, that's

the danger of doing that. If you just decide to write it on,

write it out, it's just it's just a matter of time, right when

that tire gives away and there will be a boom, right, there will

be a pop. It will leave you stranded. Now you can say I'm

just going to take my chances right like they do, and say if I

could just if I could just make it the sheets, if I could just

make it. They got a free air tank pumper there, and I can

just get a little air and I can get me by. Or you can

say, you know what, if I could just get to that repair shop,

it will be okay, and you could just keep riding on that flight

tire and just hoping that you're going to make it. Well. Sometimes in

our life we're a lot like that scenario. There's things in our life that

are falling apart right, things are collapsing around us, and sometimes we could

just think, you know, if I can just make it through this,

right, I know it's coming. I know this is not good. I

know this is what's happening in my life is not good right now. But

if I can just get through this period of time in my life, if

I could just get through this season, if I can get through that problem

at work, or if I can just get through that problem at home,

or if I can just get through that problem at church, or if I

could just get through this health issue in my life, or if I could

just get through this period of time at school in this project that if I

could just get through this, everything will be okay. The problem is,

for most of us, it's going down and we can just keep pushing it

down the road, thinking, Hey, everything will be okay. I don't

really have to be where I need to be with the Lord if I could

just get through this on my own. But it's just a matter of time

that it's going to crumble. As we come to the Psalm sixty two,

David is writing with this idea in his mind. He is, as he's

going to describe later, he seems like things are about to collapse. And

David in this actually this is a song. Psalm sixty two is a song

that they would sing, and it was a song that David would lead people

to sing. And in this song David describes his struggle if things collapsing and

what David does at that time, And in this song David gives us an

example to follow, but also he calls us to follow his example. So

this morning, as we look to David's example and as we hear his call

to follow him. I hope you today will hear this psalm and worship today

in your life when things start to crumble, when things start to collapse,

will you worship in waiting and trusting. Part of my sermon today, worship

in waiting and trusting. Let's read God's word together. We stand with me

Psalm sixty two, and we'll read all the twelve verses together. And I

hope that you as in your mind you hear David's thoughts. You hear this.

Things are collapsing for David. And what does David do? Listen what

David says here this song that he leads people to sing about the Lord and

his relationship with the Lord. For God alone, my soul waits in silence.

From Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock, my salvation,

my fortress. I shall not be greatly shaken. How long will all

of you attack a man to batter him like a leaning wall, a tottering

fence. They only plan to thrust him down from the high position. They

take pleasure in falsehood, and they bless with their mouths, but inwardly that

curse. Saylah, for God alone, Oh my soul, I wait in

silence. From my hope is is from him. He only is my rock

and my salvation, my fortress. I shall not be shaken on God rest

my salvation and my glory, my mighty rock. My refuge is God.

Trusting Him at all times. Old people, pour out your heart before him.

God is a refuge for us. Saylah to those in low estate are

but a breath. But those in high estate are delusional and balances they go

up, and they together lighter than a breath. Put no trust in exhortation,

Set no and hopes and robbery or if riches increase, Set not your

heart on them. Only God has spoken twice. I've heard this that power

belongs to our God, that to you, oh Lord, belongs steadfast love

for you are renders you to man according to his work. Let's pray together,

Father, I thank you Lord for this morning. And God, you

know this passage has been on my heart for a few weeks now and been

thinking and praying through it. And Lord, I really believe that you've led

us to today for this passage, for the people that are here in person,

those watching online or TV. And I know today you have a word

for us, And so Lord I pray that I would be your faithful messenger,

that you would feel me, that you might pour me out, that

I would decrease and you would increase. God, I need your wisdom today,

or that I might rightly divide your words. Speak through me today.

Lord, give me clarity, speech, clarity thought. And Lord, I

pray your spirit will take your word today and implanting in the hearts of your

people, that you would open up hearts and minds today to your truths,

and people respond to you according to your word. So God, may I

not turn from the rider to the left from your word. But God,

may I rightly deliver, and may we be faithful to have ears that would

here to your word today. So lead us through your spirit. Lord,

we ask, Lord, may you come and move in this place now?

In your name? We pray I mean you may be seated. David says

in this psalm here this morning. First, there's a call in this passage

of scripture. David calls those as he's leading them in song. He calls

them a call first to wait only in the Lord. First, a call,

a call to worship. Call first to wait only in the Lord.

David, as you look at this passage scripture. You can see at the

very beginning he says in verse one, for God alone, my soul waits

in silence. This word is found is all through the passage. It's the

main thing for David. He says it over and over in this passage.

You see in verse one, you see it in two, you see it

in four, and then five and six and seven. He says this word

alone, or another term would be only. He says it repeatedly throughout the

passage. It's a key thing for David. David is saying only I wait

in the Lord. And why does he say only do I wait in the

Lord? Because of what David says in this passage, for God alone,

my soul waits in silence. From him comes my salvations. David says.

The reason I wait only in the Lord because he's my salvation. David says,

the reason I wait only in the Lord because he's my rock. He's

what holds me firm, as that song on Christ is my firm foundation.

He says, I wait only the Lord because he is my fortress. This

is he is my protector. He protects me from danger, from turmoil,

from problems. He says in this passage scripture I shall not be shaken.

The imagery for David is he's not waiting in two different things. He's not

waiting for God and for something else, or waiting for something else and then

maybe God too can come. Now. For David, I wait only in

the Lord. That's an important part for David throughout this theme. It's only

in the Lord. Only in the Lord. I wait. As you come

to this passage, he says these words as a result, because he waits

only in the Lord, and because God is his rock, God is his

salvation, God is his fortress. David says, I shall not be shaken.

You've ever had something in your life that you face it shook you.

Maybe it was you remember when nine to eleven happened? Now it shook our

world. You can see that in your imagery in your mind, you remember

what it was like. You remember where you were when nine to eleven happened.

How about, individually in your life, if you ever had something that

shook you. I remember one of my good friend's pastor friends. His name

is doctor Jim Neil. He had some health issues and went to the doctor

and come to find out he had cancer. And I never get doctor Neil's

words, he says, Jonathan, He says, I can't tell you what

it was like to sit in that room and a doctor to look you in

the face until you have cancer. He says, nothing in my life ever

shook me like that moment. Words that I had feared my whole life to

say that I had that, He said, that shook me to the core.

You ever had news like that in your life? Something happened. Maybe

it was a diagnosis of cancer. Maybe it was that you were losing your

job. Maybe it was a breakup with in a relationship. Maybe it was

your spouse asking for a divorce. Maybe it was a loved one that died.

But hearing those words shook you. David says in this passage of Scripture,

in my life, I'm not shaken when the events of my life and

things of this life come against me. I'm not shaken in the midst of

turmoil. I'm not shaken when things are following apart like that tire that's going

flat. I'm not shaken when things are collapsing around me. And the reason

why I'm not shaking is because I'm waiting on the Lord, and I'm waiting

only in the Lord because you think about this passive scripture, David says,

he even describes, if you will, what he's really facing it shaking.

Now as you come to Psalm sixty two. There's by the way, I

wish I could say exactly when David wrote this. There's actually debate when David

wrote this. Some would say this was David wrote Psalm sixty two when he

was fleeing from his life from the attack from Apsol and his son, and

that's what now well Lord was written for that song that the quired his song.

Some would say this was David when he was facing the attack from Saul

and living as a refuge a refugee throughout fugitive you who will all throughout Israel

trying to escape the attacks of Saul regardless, is clear from David at this

point and psstityute he's being attacked from someone or something. He says this,

if you look a look at the passage scripture verse thirty, I mean verse

three, he describes this scenario of what he's facing. He says, how

long will all of you attack a man to batter him? David says,

it just seems like I'm constantly being attacked. It's just I'm constantly battered.

He even describes like a leaning wall, a towering fence. He gives this

imagery of a wall that's leaning and it's just about to collapse. It's about

to fall apart. And David says, that's me. I'm like this leaning

wall, and it's just a matter of time before the wall falls, it

falls apart, it collapses. And David says, it's with all these constant

attacks or are coming and against me, I just feel like I'm just one

day away. I'm just one moment away from things falling apart around me.

And David's in the midst of all these attacks, the midst of the way.

I feel like things are about to fall apart. David says, I

will wait only in the Lord. Here's the passage. I want you to

hear David or not wait. He's not waiting for things to get better,

or he's not waiting for things to get worse. David is waiting only in

the Lord. You know, I don't know about you, but you know,

typically when we have this crisis, or we have this issue, and

something come against this that shakes us. I don't know about you, but

I'm just speaking for firsthand. I am a fixer. Is anybody's a fixer

in this room? Things come up? Okay, I gotta get a plan.

I gotta figure out how I want to fix house, how I'm gonna

get through this, how I'm gonna make this better. And I know I'm

like that, but Scripture tells us that there's others like that. And so

many times when we have these issues where I feel like we feel like we're

gonna try to make the wall a little bit straighter, maybe make it from

keeping from collapsing, so we create a plan of how we're gonna get through

this crisis. There's a story in the Bible of a man named Jacob.

Jacob was this type. He was a fixer, so Genesis thirty two tells

us about him and his brother a lot like David, was always battered by

others. Jacob and Esau were two brothers, and throughout their life they always

fought from even from birth. Scripture tells us they fought. Jacob would deceive

his brother for his birthright when they were younger, and then that created animosity

between them, and then later on when his dad was about to die and

couldn't actually see Jacob would deceive his father for the birthright. After that,

Esau found out what the deception and what David did to his father and how

he wrongly took the birthright. And Esau said these words. He says,

Jacob, as soon as our dad dies, I'm going to kill you.

It was so fearful for David, as I mean for David. For Jacob,

this was coming against him. Jacob actually fled. He fled to his

uncle's house and lived for years. Jesus is thirty two. God begins leading

Jacob to come back home, leave his uncles, come back home where his

mom and his brother are living. On his way back, he begins sending

messengers to his brother, Esau, because the last words he heard from his

brothers are gonna kill you. So he sees out these messengers. His scripture

tells us that in Justice thirty two, the messengers come back and says,

four hundred men are coming with your brother. Jacob hears these words, and

he's like David. He's now a leaning wall. He feels like it is

certain that things are gonna fall. It is certain that things are gonna blow

up. It's certain that things are gonna collapse. So David, I mean,

Jacob does a lot like us. Let me get a plan together.

So Jacob says, I tell you what, We're gonna divide our camp.

There's a lot of people in the family and a lot of different things.

Will divide our camp. And that way, if Esau attacks one of the

camp, at least one of us will survived. And then he says,

you know what better than that? After that, he says, you know

what, we will create like four different caravans and why are people who have

a different people and they'll have gifts and one by one they'll come and see

those four hundred men and Esau and they will say, hey, we come

ooh, that was about to be a collapse right there. Huh. They'll

be in sermoned. You'll never forget. And so he says, they send

gifts and said, this is from our brother Jacob, and they're the ideas.

One by one of those caravans come to Jacob. He would get those

gifts and it would be like Christmas four times a year, and that would

just settle his heart and he will be okay. And you know what,

after he gets this plan, separate, create these caravans, you know what

he does. Oh Lord, let me pray. Lord, best my plan.

Lord, you know the things that I've thought about. God, God

help my plan. You know that's what we do. Right in our lives.

Things are collapsing. You get the cancer diagnosis. You hear you're losing

your job, her relationships falling apart. You hear that something in your life

is crumbling. And what do you do? Will? You? And I

are a lot like Jacob. Let me get my plan together, Let me

figure out how I'm gonna fix this, and then God, would you bless

it. We don't want to wait on God. We want to do our

plan first, and then maybe God will help us with our plan. I

tell you this is a I don't again. I told you that I don't

know if anybody in this room the sermons for you, but I know the

sermons for me. A year ago, we most of y'all know one of

our biggest struggles here is the debt we had and we have. We have

an office building here and we owe we owe a lot of money on that

building, and I, as a pastor here, I've struggled with that debt.

I feel like it's just a burden that we're caring it's gonna explode one

day, and I've worried and worried. A year ago, I said,

you know, I got a plan. I got a plan. We're gonna

rent it. We're gonna rent that office space. And so we got together,

we got the deacons, we talked the elders, and we all felt

like, man, this is it. We can rent it. We can

help me rent, help pay for the mortgage, and man, that would

just be take the relief off the debt. And we did that. We

we taught, we got every planned. We even went so far. We

moved the offices and we moved Kelly out of the office into one of the

colleges. We found office space for Devon and Tanner, and we did all

that. We called the realtor said hey, we're ready to rent, call

them in and I'll never get it was last thing. It was last November.

Called the realtor on a Thursday. The realtor calls us and says,

hey, I need to talk with you, pastor. And they talked to

your secretary. So we came a conference call. We had four different realadors

on the line, and the realtor says, there's three million heated square foot

of office space in your area. Yeah, you can put it on the

market, but you're probably gonna sit on it for years and you'll never You'll

have to put twenty thirty thousand dollars in to get it ready to rent,

and you'll probably wait on it a year and it'll never rent. Pastor,

I just hate for you to be a bad steward of church's money by spending

money that's not going to rent. And I'll be honest with you. I

was crushed because I had my plan and I asked God to bless it,

and God said, no, you wait on me. Can I tell you?

Two days later we got a phone call. I was so defeated.

Lord, I don't know what you're gonna do. How you go provide for

this we've got in our church. Two days later we got a phone call

or an email from ups down the street that wanted to rent our parking lot

for three months. Two days after God said no, here's what I want

you to hear bout that I had put so much waiting on my plan that

I ignored waiting on God's plan. Can I ask you today what are you

waiting for? Maybe some of you today in your life. You say.

You know what, Pastor, you right now and things are crazy and I

feel like my life is just crumbling around me. And and you know what,

sometimes things got to get a little worse before it to get better.

So so, Pastor, crazy, things are crazy right now at work.

But if I could just get through this project, then I can wait on

the Lord. The Pastor, I know things are crazy right now, and

I feel like my life is crumbling and it's all out of sord. But

if I could just get through school right now, then I can wait on

the Lord. Pastor. I know things are crazy at home right now.

I've got relationships are falling apart and people are mad at each other. But

if we could just get through Christmas and the Holidays, then I can wait

on the Lord. You know, things are crazy with my health right now,

but if once I get through this treatment, then I can wait on

the Lord. You know, Pastor, I know things are crazy in our

world today with Ukraine and Israel and inflation and the border. But if we

could just get through this, then we can wait on the Lord. Can

I say to you, the Lord is saying today, don't put your faith

and your trust and waiting on something else. Wait only in me. Listen

today, maybe today. The reasons why you feel some of you today feel

like your life is crumbling and shaking around you is because you're waiting on other

things. You're not waiting on the Lord. And the Lord's called you today

is listen way only in me. Wait Wait only on me. Let me

be your salvation. Wait only on me. Let me be your rock.

Way only on me. Let me be your protector. Wait only on me.

All these other things are going to fall apart. Iowall what never fail.

Can I ask you today? Will you wait on the Lord? I

want to tell you see the next part of this passage scripture. David says

there was a call to wait on the Lord. But secondly there's a call

to trust in the Lord. This passage is really split in three parts,

and they're divided by the words say lah say that actually means to lift up

or to exalt, but in Biblical literature is used as a pause. And

so David, you can see you see verse four. He talks three and

four. He talks about the attacks are coming against him, how they're trying

to destroy them. They curse him with their mouths, they bless him and

curse him with their mouths. You see the Silah pauls there in verse four.

And then here's this other call for David. Verse five, David says,

for God alone, oh my soul waited in silence. It's actually repeated

words from the very first verse. You see he says the same words,

these changes a little bit at the end of five. Look at what he

says for God alone, Oh my soul, I wait in silence. That's

what he says. Here from my hope is from him. Look at verse

one, for God alone, my soul waits a sauts from him comes my

salvation. Here David's doesn't say that I wait on him in silence, oh

my soul, But I wait in silence? Why because he is my what,

not only my salvation, He's my hope. He's what the hope that

I have for a future is not on me or in something else. My

hope is in the Lord. And then he describes why his hope is in

the Lord. It's it's because God is his rock. Again, God is

his salvation. God is his fortress. And again David says, I shall

not be shaken. David says, listen, wait only in the Lord,

calls wait only in the Lord. But second day, David says, there's

a call here to trust only in the Lord. Put your hope only in

the Lord. He even verse seven, he describes his God on God rest

my salvation and my glory the imagery. There is trusting resting in the Lord,

not resting in other things. You see that on the imagery only there

on God rests. He can't rest on one thing and rest on Another's only

in God, my glory, my mighty Rock, my refuge. And then

David calls all of us, He calls the here's a day the fall of

this. So this is the way, It says, trust in Him at

all times, Oh, your people, pour out your heart before him.

God is a refuge for us. You know, David understands in this passage

he calls, He says that his hope is in the Lord. He's trusting

in the Lord. He calls the people to trust in the Lord at all

times. He says, put your hope in Him, that he might be

your rock, your salvation, your fortress. But David describes in this psalm,

he describes it there is a temptation for us. Right, there's a

temptation for us not to wait on the Lord but waiting something else. Wait

on things to get better or things will get worse. In this passage,

in this latter part of the passage, he shows us there's a temptation for

us not only wait put our weight on other things. But he says there's

a temptation in us to trust in other things. Again, David says only

I am going to trust only in the Lord. But David knows for you

and I, we don't want to do just that. Again, we want

to trust in God, and we also want to trust in some other things.

And so David describes things that we at times want to trust. In

verse nine, he says, of those lowly estate but are our breath,

and those of highest state are delusional in bounce as they go up, and

all together are lighter than a breath. What is describing there as man?

He's describing people were talking about men. He says, those of lowly stad

are breath lowestead. Of those from low in this life or lowest stature of

this life, to those in high end stature, David says, their lives

are mere breaths. Scripture says in James, our life is but a vapor,

right, He says, many times we have a danger. We had

the temptation for us to put our trust in men, right, those are

low in life or those enrich in life. We want to put our trust

in man. Maybe we can put our hope in people. But the reality

is we're putting our hope in people that are fleeing, right, that do

not last, are not eternal. But life is short, and so we're

putting our trust in those who there's not much to their life. Their life

is short, and we're trusting in someone that's not going to last. He

says, Also what doesn't know we have a temptation to trust in man.

But also verse ten, he's there was a temptation to trust in man's plans.

He says, again, putting no trust in exhortation, not exhortation,

extortion. This is and I plan to wrongly take something set in no vain

hopes and robbery. Right, if riches increase, set not your heart on

them. It's the idea that we can scheme and plan and try to get

things our way wrongly at times, And David says, don't put your trust

in man man's life, but a vapor, no matter how small or how

great he is. But also, don't trust in man's plans, no matter

how good or evil they are. They will what fail, you know.

So in that sense he says, don't trust in men because they're weak.

Don't trust in man's plans because man's plans are hopeless, you know, and

I do so. Marriage counseling and premarital counseling is people are getting ready to

marry, get getting ready for their wedding. And I use this illustration.

So if you think about David says, here we rest only in God.

Right to rest is a sit in something, to put your weight in that.

Now, if you think about a chair, if you come to a

chair, when you sit in a chair, you rest totally in that chair,

right, You depend upon that chair to hold you up. You put

all your weight in it. You don't put half your weight in it.

You put all your weight in. And now you're sitting in pews, you're

putting all your weight on that peu. You're resting in that. And that's

the idea of a chair, right. And so but you know, if

you come to certain chairs, you see certain chairs are broken, and this

one's the one. That I found and is it not looking too good?

It's had batter days, let's see is also better days. It's kind of

broken in two. And now I don't know about you, but if I'm

coming this is kind of a newer chair We've got a few years ago.

If I'm coming to sit down and I'm going to rest in something, I

don't know about you, but I'm not resting in something that's broken, right,

I'm not sitting in something that's broken because I know from the start is

broken and if I put my trust in it, all that's going to do

is what failed me. Right, And so in the reality is too when

you think about this illustration, you can't put your trust or you can't rest

in both. You can't sit in a broken chair in a good chair at

the same time. Right, You either put yourself all in one or you

put yourself all in others. The reality is in talking to many couples,

many couples as they become into marriage, they are trusting in something that's broken,

and what is it or the trusting in their spouse. You know,

throughout our lives we've heard the fairy tale a prence charge, right, Cinderella,

Right, that here's this prince charming. He's got it all together.

Man, he's he's he's he's handsome, he's you know, he's got all

the right hair, teeth, even look good everything. I mean, he's

prince charming. Right. And then she's a princess. Right, she's where's

the glass slipper? And right they're just they're just waiting for that moment.

Right. He's not happy because he's alone. She's not happy because she's living

with the evil stepmother. Right. But if they would just get together,

right, and they just get married, then when they get married, they

go off and what into the sunset? What happily ever after? And from

life from the very beginning of our life, for our children and we as

their adults, where he heard the story right that if we could just get

married, if we found that right man or that right woman and we get

married, then all of our happiness will be fulfilled and we'll go off in

the sunset. Right. And I tell our couples, as you're coming into

marriage, you have this iodealistic view of marriage that you think it's gonna be

bliss and everything's gonna be perfect, and he's your prince charming and he's gonna

make you happy, and she's your princess, and she's gonna always make you

happy. And then you get in the marriage and you realize what Timothy Keller

writes a book called The Meaning of Marriage. You realize that you don't marry

prince charming. He's not so charming after all. And the princesses doesn't look

like much of the princess without the makeup right. And then after that you

realize, I married a stranger, and who I thought was gonna make me

happy is not making me happy. And Timothy Keller says in their book,

in this book Meaning of Marriage, many couples, when they come to that

moment, listen to me. They believe they made a mistake. They believe

they made a mistake and they married the wrong person. Why because they put

their trust and a person, They put their trust in a spouse to be

their fulfillment and their happiness. And listen, no man or woman can live

up to that. You know what, here's the imagery. They're putting their

trust in something that's broken because it's a simple man, it's a simple woman,

and that can never be the fulfillment of your happiness. It's flawed from

the start. And so I tell our couples before you say I do,

it's supporting that you find your trust and you place your trust in the Lord,

and the Lord only, not in her or in him. Put your

trust in the Lord. I say that to you today because you know the

reality is this works with marriage, but this works with so many different areas

of our life. Some of us you're putting your hope in your job,

in your career, and you continue to put your trust that if I could

just get through this year, if I could just get through another year at

work, and I mean, and I could just get to retirement age,

then then I'll be happy, or then I'll be fulfilled. But time and

time again you feel shaken. Why because you're too your trust in your job.

Some of you putting your trust in in your spouse, and continually you

feel like over and over you put your trust in your spouse to be your

irack, and they continue to fail and you continue to be destroyed. So

mean you put your trust in our world. You think, oh, if

our world, if America could just get things together, then we could be

better with inflation and these different things, and you continue to put your trust

in politicians or government, and you know what, they continue to disappoint you.

But you're resting in. You're trying to rest into something that is broken

and the Lord. David says, here, you know what man is fleeting.

They're weak. It doesn't matter how big or small they are. They

don't last. David says, listen. And you can't trust in man's plans

or man's schemes. They will fail you. But David says, for me,

I trust, I rest only in God. Ask you today, what

are you trusting in? You can't trust in man or your job, or

your hobbies or whatever it is that make you happy and trust in God.

You can't do both. You're either all in one or you're in the all

in the other. David says, I trust my hope is only in the

Lord. This is verse six. He only is my rock and my salvation,

my fortress. I shall not be shaken. You know all we're shaking

today because we're trusting in things that are broken, people and things of this

world that are broken from the start. Can I say to you today,

you said, Pastor, I'm tired of feeling like I'm just running on a

broken tire. I'm tired of feel like I'm just one step away, one

day away, one month away from falling apart. Today, Pastor, I'm

tired of being shaken from this world, shaken from the circumstances of my life.

Maybe you today say, Lord, I don't want to trust in anything

else. I want to wait in anything else. What I want to wait

on you? What I want to trust in you? God forgive me in

ways that I try to put my trust in other things, my health,

people, my plans. What I want to trust in you? Here's a

family. And I'm going to close with this. But David, finally at

the very end, and I want you to see this quickly. In verse

eleven and twelve, David says, why why do I wait only in the

Lord? Why do I trust only in the Lord? David says, once

God has spoken it twice, I've heard this, and this is the imagery.

This is a faithful saying from God, and I faithfully heard this throughout

my life life. Why do I trust in God? Why do I wait

in the Lord? Because power belongs to God, Powers not in man.

Listen, powers not in me. Power is only in the Lord. Therefore

our trust him. Therefore I wait on him, David says, and only

did I trust him wait on him because power belongs to the Lord. Listen

this and that to you, Oh Lord, belongs steadfast love. God.

I trust in you and I wait on you, because God, you belong,

You belong the power, you hold, the power, the powers in

your hands, not in mine, are not in my plans or not in

others. Because God, you love me, and your love for me is

never failed. Even in times where I trust in the broken, God,

you still love me. Even when times I don't wait for you, God,

you still love me. God, I rest in you, I wait

on you. I trust in you, because God, power belongs to you.

God, because God, you love me, and your love doesn't fail.

There's a story in Minar of a family. Kahed is his name.

He was an unbeliever. Some believers from a neighboring village came in and they

begin to hear in the Gospel in this unreached area. Kahed and his family

came to Christ. Not long after that, there were some people that came

through the village and they were trying to eradicate the Christians. There were two

monks there some others who were trying to eradicate to Christians, and after many

of the people in the village got saved, and and slowly the people of

the persecutors began going through the village one by one, home by home that

would go to the families and they would ask them to recant Jesus or be

executed. After some time, there's many of the people in the village recanted

because they feared death and feared torture. They finally made their way to Khith's

family and there standing before the persecutors the soldiers. Soldiers asked them to recant

their faith or be beaten or carried off to prison to be killed. Kahed

and his family refuse to recant. Persecution was coming. It was a lot

like David. They felt like there were a wall that was about to collapse.

They had heard story after the story of other people in the area that

it was coming against them, and they knew it was only a matter of

time that it was going to come to their door. They had a decision

whether they would wait on the Lord and that he would be their rock,

he would be their salvation, he would be their fortress. They had a

decision or whether they were going to trust in man and give over and recant

and maybe have a plan to recant, maybe come back later or whatever,

but just right now, be safe. But they didn't trust in or wait

in man. They didn't trust in their plans. They held their faith.

They waited on the Lord, and they trusted the Lord, and they refuse

to recant their faith, and God gave them power and they were delivered and

escaped and was able to escape to another village. And now they're in that

other village with other Christians. They'll never be able to go back home again,

but now they're with fellow believers and they're safe. Can I tell you

today story of Kahed and his family and how they heard that things were coming

and the decision had to be made. What would they do when it came

against them? Can I say to you today, attacks are coming, Collapses

are coming. Things are going to fall apart. Things are going to fall

apart in your family. Things are going to fall apart. In your health.

Things are going to fall apart at work. Things are going to fall

apart in your marriage. Things are going to fall apart in your relationships.

It's coming. What will you do when it comes? When things are about

to collapse? What will you do? Will you say, Pastor, I

want to wait on the Lord, Pastor, I want to trust the Lord.

He alone is my salvation. He alone is my rock, he alone

is my fortress. I shall not be shaken knowing that it's coming. I

will not be shaken because I wait the Lord, because I trust in them.

Would you pray with me? Lord? We love you. We thank

you Lord for this morning. And I thank you for your word. Lord.

I know that without a doubt you led us a sum sixty two today.

And there are those that are sounded my voice, whether they're in person

or watching on lie and today this passage has spoken to them. Lord,

your word has pierced their hearts. And I pray the now as we come

to this time and response. I pray that they would be those who would

respond, maybe come to this alter and pray, or maybe leading that I

might pray with some today. Lord, Do you lead them to come?

Or I pray for There be some here today? And they don't know you

as Lord and Savior. They don't know that God who came to save them.

They don't know Jesus who came and lived and died that they might be

saved. They have never found forgiveness of sin, restored relationship with You,

and I pray there'd be those today if they've never put their faith than You

for salvation. Today it would be those who would cry out to You Lord

today for salvation, who would have omit today that they're a sinner, who

would believe that God, You came and lived and died on across to their

sins. To be those today that would confess you as Lord, confess their

need for forgiveness, confess that they will surrender their life to You, Lord

Jesus. I pray thee be those today that would take those steps to salvation

today we place their faith, their trust in You alone for salvation. Today.

Lord, however, you lead us in this time of invitation that God,

may we respond Lord to you, not to me or not to my

words. But God, may they respond to the words of your spirit today,

the movement of your spirit. Or we love you. We thank you

are for today and your name. We pray, Amen Jesus and add to him
