Have the honor of serving as the adjunct teaching pastor
-
here at Church at the Crossing. So if we haven't met,
-
this is our introduction. I'm going to let you know
-
you picked a perfect place to worship this morning. Whether
-
you're watching online or you're here in person, I'm so
-
glad you're here today this morning. I've been on a
-
little journey myself just with God as we talk about
-
overflow and allowing the Holy Spirit to overflow in your
-
life to guide you, to lead you into places and
-
spaces that you may not have been prepared for. As
-
many of you know, I serve a very distinct population.
-
Although I've served young people my whole life, all the
-
way from pre k all the way up to college age.
-
I've worked with young people most of my life. I
-
did discover that pre K is probably not my thing
-
because when they take nap time, so do I. And
-
not safe, not safe and so. But I found a
-
particular population that my heart goes out to, and that
-
is young people who are often forgotten, and those are
-
young people who are incarcerated across the country at youth
-
detention facilities. So several months ago, the Lord started speaking
-
to me about this situation, and it started asking me, like,
-
where's your ministry. I'm like, my ministry. Do it every
-
day when I go to work, I'm doing it. I'm
-
working with young people everywhere I go, I'm doing ministry.
-
And the Lord is like, no, what about your ministry?
-
What about your ministry? And then the Lord started downloading
-
in small bits and pieces this ministry that has unfolded
-
very quickly to go into those spaces and to be
-
able to preach and teach young people the Gospel and
-
expose them to the love of Christ. Just this week,
-
I was able to go to a detention center in Springfield,
-
Ohio and share the good news. And the good news
-
is twelve young souls came to the world. Amen. Amen, Amen.
-
And so how this ministry works is that it's based
-
out of Matthew twenty five when Jesus says, what you
-
have done to the lease of these. When I was hungry,
-
you fed me, when I was naked, you clothed me.
-
When I was in prison or sick, you came and
-
visited me. So we do that through this ministry. We
-
visit these young people to see about them, We feed
-
them the word of God, and then we also leave
-
behind the T shirt that's on the screen there. And
-
what we do with this T shirt is basically, anyone
-
who purchased one, they not only purchased a T shirt
-
for themselves, but they're also purchasing one for a kid
-
who's incarcerated. And so when these young twelve people gave
-
their heart to the Lord, they receive the shirt, and
-
even the other kids that were in the room receive
-
the shirt because it's just a reminder when they leave
-
that they're still counting. On the shirt, it says Everybody's it.
-
And John three point sixteen lets us know that God
-
so loved the world that he gave is only begotten son.
-
He loved the world everybody. Everybody is it and so
-
tagged these young people are it. And so glad to
-
know that we have twelve added to the kingdom. Amen.
-
So we talked about this. So much is happening at
-
the church at this time. Pastor James is actually traveling
-
at this time. He is in the backwoods of Wisconsin. Amen,
-
He's at a outreach event where he's going to be
-
sharing or has already started sharing, and we'll be sharing
-
four times while he's there. And so this group of people.
-
Are there many that are there unsaved and have not
-
come into relationship with Jesus Christ. And so please pray
-
for him as he shares the good news of Jesus,
-
and we pray that others will come into the fold. Amen. Amen.
-
I want to transition into this topic of overflow and
-
get us back to that. I felt like everything I
-
said before was an announcement, and I want to kind
-
of get us back into this, uh, this idea of
-
the overflow of the Holy Spirit. And so I'm gonna
-
ask my granddaughter daughter, Kayln, Kaylyn, come on up here,
-
help me out. Kaylyn's gonna help me out this morning,
-
just kind of help us flow back by singing a
-
prayer song. Okay, we're gonna make this our prayer song.
-
So if you would bow your heads, close your eyes,
-
and we're gonna sing this prayer song. She's gonna sing
-
this pre song. Lead us in this pres song. Let's pray.
-
Oh see.
-
Come here, come floy please send busy yeah us.
-
Your glove.
-
God is is uh long to be over come by
-
your passions.
-
Love.
-
Please spery a welcome here. Conflictis play in field themassphel
-
Your God.
-
God is a long.
-
To be.
-
Overcome by your presence.
-
The spearing you a gone conflict class. Your regud is.
-
To be.
-
Come by your presis love.
-
What's on hold.
-
Spearing wld here come the place and if feed speed
-
your God, God is word of love.
-
To be.
-
Come by your asis.
-
Holy Spirit. You are welcome. Come in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.
-
Let me thank you for but you'll thank you Amen.
-
So that have young people, there's always something so sensitive
-
about when a young person sing. When our kids were little,
-
we would go to their chapels at Liberty Christian School
-
and Anderson and all these little kids, little babies singing
-
these songs. And I would be sitting there bawling. I'm
-
just bawling because of the sensitivity. Who thank you God
-
in the spirit that it produces to remember the innocence
-
of a child. Today, the big idea for today is
-
experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We all have
-
heard about the Holy Spirit. We have lessons taught to
-
us about the Holy Spirit. We've heard about the gifts
-
of the spirit, the fruit of a spirit, all those
-
things that are produced through the Holy Spirit. But we
-
need to understand who the Holy Spirit is. So I'm
-
going to start us out by acknowledging that the Holy
-
Spirit has always been a part of the life of
-
the Church, the creation of the world, everything that the
-
Holy Spirit has been a part of. Because the Holy
-
Spirit is a part of God, the Triune God, God,
-
the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
-
And so when we encounter relationship with God, we come
-
in through the Holy Spirit. It's the Holy Spirit that
-
draws us and invites us. It's that tugg in your
-
heart that says, ooh, my life needs more than what
-
I'm living right now. It's that poll that says, come
-
to an alter of prayer, give your heart to Jesus.
-
You need Jesus. Come to Jesus while there is time.
-
It's that feeling that we have. The Holy Spirit woos
-
us into a place where we're open enough to receive Jesus.
-
And so we have God, the Father, God, the Son
-
and God, the Holy Spirit, God, the Father supreme over everything, Jesus,
-
the sacrificial Lamb of God, who lays down his life
-
to give us access to the Father, and the Holy Spirit,
-
who then empowers the believer to be effective and to
-
others into the presence of God, to be witnesses, ambassadors
-
of God's presence and goodness. So this morning I want
-
to spend a little time in the scriptures this series
-
here overflow. So honored to be opening this series that
-
we'll be doing over the next several weeks. But today
-
we want to start out just in Chapter one, and
-
we'll be moving through all the chapters there and Acts.
-
I want to look at Acts one and we're going
-
to start with verse one and we'll flow through verse eleven.
-
I'm going to read this in your hearing, and if
-
you will not turn because people don't turn pages, how
-
many y'all got physical Bibles? How man y'all got physical
-
Bibles with you right now? Amen? Just curious, all right,
-
How man y'all got digital Bibles with you right now? Yeah? Okay,
-
So swipe to swipe to Acts, the first chapter, and
-
we're going to get reading the Bible says this in
-
my form of book Theophilis, I wrote about all that
-
Jesus began to do and to teach until the day
-
he was taken up to heaven after giving instruction through
-
the Holy Spirit. The apostles had chosen he had chosen
-
after his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave
-
many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to
-
them over a period of forty days and spoke about
-
the Kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was
-
eating with them, he gave them this command, do not
-
leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my father promise
-
which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized
-
with water, but in a few days you will be
-
baptized with the Holy Spirit. Then they gathered around him
-
and asked him, Lord, are you at this time going
-
to restore the king to Israel. He said to them,
-
it is not for you to know the times or
-
dates the Father has set by his own authority. But
-
you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you,
-
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in
-
all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
-
After he said this, he was taken up before their
-
very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
-
They were looking intently into the sky as he was going,
-
when suddenly two men dressed in white stood before them,
-
men of Gotie. They said, why do you stand here
-
looking into the sky. This same Jesus who was taken
-
from you into the heaven will come back in the
-
same way you have seen him go into the heavens.
-
Today I want to focus on that passage, that scripture
-
in verse eight. But you will receive power when the
-
Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my
-
witnesses in Jerusalem and all of Judea and Samaria and
-
to the ends of the earth. I want us to
-
understand today that in order for us to be witnesses,
-
we are going to need the Holy Spirit. There are
-
three points I want to point out today. The first
-
point is is that the Holy Spirit empowers believers. The
-
Holy Spirit empowers believers. If we are a believer, you
-
can be a believer in Jesus. And many people claim
-
that they believe in God, that they're Christians, that they
-
have confessed and accepted Jesus as their Lord and savior.
-
But many walk around and they are not in powered.
-
And when I say empowered, I mean able to do
-
the things that Jesus did. It's a challenge for many
-
of us to think about all that Jesus did. Jesus
-
turned water into wine. I know some people are signing
-
up for that miracle. Right he healed the sick, He
-
restored sight to the blind, He caused death ears to hear.
-
He the gave of sin, brought people back into relationship
-
with God. He healed a woman who had been bleeding
-
for twelve years, and he also raised the dead. And
-
many of us we think about those miracles and they
-
seem so far and in so far off. But I
-
want to let you know that we have access to
-
the same power that Jesus displayed in the earth. Amen.
-
But the only way that we can have access to
-
that power is to allow the Holy Spirit to empower us.
-
The Holy Spirit brings this power to us, gives this
-
power to the believer. I want to let you know
-
that the Holy Spirit is not new, that it's the
-
same power that we see in Genesis One when we
-
see that at the beginning of creation, the Holy Spirit
-
was therewith God hovering over the surface of the deep,
-
hovering waiting for the moment when God says, let there
-
be light, and there was light. The Holy Spirit is
-
the acting moving power of God. I'm gonna say that
-
the Holy Spirit is the acting moving power of God
-
anytime there is a need for activity, anytime there is
-
a need for movement, if there's ever a need for power,
-
the Holy Spirit provides that power. The Holy Spirit provides
-
those actions, that movement that needs to happen in the earth.
-
It's the same power that separates water and allows people
-
to walk on dry ground. It's the same power that
-
allows Jesus to do the works that he was doing
-
in the earth. That same power is available today to
-
everyone who's under the sound of my voice. But what
-
do we need to do in order to get that power.
-
We have to be open to receive the power. Now
-
this morning, if I came in this space and I
-
said that the Holy Spirit is the acting moving power
-
of God, I want to explain how it works. Right now,
-
you are able to hear my voice because my voice
-
is being carried through the sound system. But if I
-
took my hand and put it here, it'll be very
-
difficult to hear me. I'm sorry, mate, he's gonna get
-
me for doing this. You can't hear me as well
-
because it's muffled. But the acting moving power does this,
-
the acting moving power. Here we go. When I say acting,
-
what's the first letter of acting participation? When I say moving,
-
what's the first letter of moving? Uh? Huh? And when
-
I say power. What's the first letter of power, pee right?
-
And so we got those letters together, and if you
-
were doing an acronym, it would be amp right. The
-
Holy Spirit amplifies God, amplifies the things of God, moves
-
and amplifies, bring more sound to brings it to other people.
-
It takes it to places that no one has seen before.
-
And so it's so important as a body of Christ
-
that we accept that power so that God can be amplified,
-
amplified on your job, amplified in your marriage, amplified in
-
your community, amplified in places where there's darkness. The Holy
-
Spirit amplifies the light of God. Oh my God, it's
-
nothing like when a believer. People of light walk into
-
dark spaces and they can see now because you are there,
-
because you're present, things change. There's a shift because you're there.
-
There's got to be a shift in our world. I
-
don't know about you, but this world is in a
-
very oh Man treumunctuous place, a place that is devastating,
-
a place that is falling apart. We need light. We
-
need the amplification of the Holy Spirit in all spaces.
-
We need amplification in the prison system, we need amplification
-
in our school system. We need amplification in our white house.
-
We need amplification all around. We need to see the
-
light of God in every space. We are in need
-
of amplified power. And so the Holy Spirit empowers the believer,
-
gives us what we need in order to get the
-
job done. I want to let you know you can't
-
get this job done in your own strength, but you
-
need power when Jesus says, and you will receive power
-
when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. When you look
-
at the word power, power. And this phrase is in
-
Greek dunamous, dunamous, dunamous, it means there's some ability to
-
do mighty works. Mighty works. Mighty works. Not just listen.
-
It's not going to the mailbox. That's not mighty work. Okay,
-
that's just normal natural thing you do. Go to mailbox,
-
get to mail out, whatnot. But mighty works means moving mountains.
-
We sing songs about stuff like this. I believe in
-
moving mountains, and I believe this, and I believe that.
-
Well do you well if you do allow the Holy
-
Spirit to move some mountains out of people lives, out
-
of our lives, out of our communities, out of all
-
that we encounter because that is the dunamous power of
-
the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit to do can do
-
mighty acts, but needs a vessel that is willing to go.
-
They won't know unless you go, unless you're willing as
-
a disciple of Christ. Remember he said, then you will
-
be my witnesses to all these places. I'm going ahead
-
of myself. Let me slow down. So the Holy Spirit
-
allows us and empowers us to do the work of
-
the Father through this power, this power that does mighty works.
-
Always think about the fishes and the loads. That's a
-
mighty work. I think about the disciples on the stormy See,
-
that's a mighty work because there's power. But they experienced
-
this because Jesus was there. Here we go the Holy Spirit.
-
Point two brings ongoing personal transformation. I want to let
-
you know that if you are the same person that
-
you were when you got saved, that's a problem. Talk
-
to this side. They don't believe what I was saying.
-
If you are the same person that you were on
-
the day you got saved, that's a problem the whole Amen,
-
y'all with me. Amen, I'm gonna give y'all another chance later, Okay.
-
I promise, y'all just wasn't ready. So the reality is
-
is that the Holy Spirit transforms us. The Holy Spirit
-
changes us. The Holy Spirit starts to work in our
-
lives in such a way that we start wanting transformation.
-
The Bible tells us that in Romans, it says that
-
do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of
-
this world. When the Holy Spirit comes into your life,
-
you are looking for ways to not look like the world.
-
Mm hmm. You ever walked in someplace and somebody's got
-
the same outfit you got on, and then you and
-
your mind said, well, I work better than them. Right,
-
what if everybody in the room had on the same outfit.
-
There's something about the Holy Spirit says, no, no, no,
-
I'm gonna pull you out of the pattern of this world,
-
and I'm gonna give you a new identity. I'm gonna
-
give you a new look. I'm gonna give you a
-
new way that you're doing this thing under my power.
-
But do not conform any lower too the pattern of
-
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
-
The Holy Spirit will change your mind. You won't think
-
the way you used to think. You won't act the
-
way you used to act. You won't do the things
-
you used to do. Why, Because the Holy Spirit is
-
changing Your mind. Used to have a strong stance on
-
certain things. But the Holy Spirit invade your life and says,
-
ah ah, we don't think that way anymore. We don't
-
do that anymore, We don't act that way anymore. So
-
the Holy Spirit starts to impact your mental. If the
-
Holy Spirit can impact your mental, everything else follows. Our
-
bodies follow, our minds, our voices, our speech, our diet,
-
all those things change because our minds have been changed.
-
The Holy Spirit overflows. The Holy Spirit worked. The work
-
of the Holy Spirit in our lives isn't a one
-
time event. It's not like boom, I got the Holy Spirit.
-
I'm good. No, it's a continuous renew and transformation that
-
leads to overflow in every aspect of our lives, our attitudes,
-
our actions, and our relationships. Our attitudes. Some of us
-
got bad attitudes, let's just say it. Some of us.
-
We don't wake up well, we're like, you know, I'm
-
not a morning person. Then you have some people who
-
are not night people. Can't stay up too late. I
-
turn into another person. And then you have some people
-
who are just bad in the middle of the day,
-
and some of us just have a bad attitude all day. Right,
-
So the Holy Spirit comes in and starts to change
-
our attitudes, the way that we see things, the way
-
that we focus, the way that we operate, the way
-
that we deal with things. The Holy Spirit teaches us
-
about him and then teaches us about us so that
-
we can flow in the spirit. The Holy Spirit adapts
-
our actions. The things that we used to do, we
-
don't do no more. The places we used to go,
-
we don't go no more. The way that we used
-
to interact and communicate, we just don't do that anymore.
-
The friends I used to have, I don't have no
-
more because the Holy Spirit starts to move in our life,
-
and I know it's easier just to go with the flow.
-
Some of us we just want to be in control.
-
Just want to be in control. You want to drive
-
your own car, You want to go where you want
-
to go, when you want to go with. You don't
-
want anybody driving you around. Some people I have friends
-
like that, And to be honest, I'm a little like
-
that too. If you invite me somewhere, I'll drive myself.
-
You know why, because I want to leave. When I
-
want to leave, I will not be held hostage to
-
your time schedule. M hm. And some of us do that.
-
With the Holy Spirit, we're like, uh no, I'm gonna
-
go to church, but I'm telling if that preacher preaches
-
five minutes past, I'm out. The Holy Spirit changes our actions,
-
our modes, the way that we think, and I know
-
there's a game going on. I see people in jerseys,
-
Amen today, go colts. Amen. Amen. We praying for them
-
and they gonna need prayer. Amen anyway. But changes also
-
our relationships. It changes our marriages, it changes he changes
-
the way that we interact with our kids. He changes
-
the way that we interact with people around us, the
-
people that we love and the people that we are
-
growing to love, the people that we don't even know.
-
The Holy the Spirit will even impact the way you
-
deal with your enemies. Some of us we love everybody else,
-
but we will cuss out our enemies. The Holy Spirit
-
will change those things about you, but you have to
-
give access. So when I say ongoing transformation, that means
-
you are continuously change, You're continuously going through the process.
-
It looks a little bit like a fawcet a water
-
falter that's being poured into water that's being poured into
-
a glass from a divine place that the Holy Spirit
-
continues to pour into us over and over again, removing
-
all of the stuff that would normally settle to the bottom.
-
The Holy Spirit, no, that can't settle. I need to
-
renew you, refresh you, give you new all over again.
-
So every time you think you're going to become stale
-
as a Christian, the Holy Spirit says, nope, getting here.
-
I'm gonna do something new. I am doing a new thing.
-
Can you see it? The Holy Spirit It's word is
-
not a one time thing. But the Holy Spirit continues
-
to refresh us over and over. I can developing us personally,
-
transforming us personally. Thirdly, the Holy Spirit equips us to
-
be witnesses. It's hard to tell others about Jesus sometimes,
-
but I want to let you know the best tell
-
of Jesus. The best way we can tell people about Jesus,
-
the best way we can communicate about Jesus is through
-
our lives. Your life will speak more than your words
-
could ever say. People are watching your life to see
-
if what you say and do are connected. But after
-
we have lived around people long enough and they watched you,
-
it gives you permission to then speak. Oh watch that
-
some of us we start talking first mm hmm. Live
-
it out, and then the Holy Spirit gives you credit
-
to be able to speak into lives, to be able
-
to tell truth into lives, to be able to give
-
direction into lives, because people know that what you say
-
is what you do, and so the Holy Spirit equips
-
us to be witnesses. I want to let you know.
-
You could try to do this of your own. You
-
could try to do it of your own power, do
-
it your own way, but you will not be successful
-
because you need the Holy Spirit. Every person in here
-
under the sound of my voice and me included, and
-
those who are online, we need the Holy Spirit if
-
we are going to be equipped to carry this great news,
-
if we're going to be equipped to be able to
-
bring the message of Christ to others. The Holy Spirit
-
is looking for those who will enlist in the army
-
of the Lord to say, I am opening up my
-
life so that you can have control and you can
-
do what you want to do in me, so others
-
will know Jesus well, how does this works? How does
-
it work? How does this process work? Well, this is
-
how it works. We receive the Holy Spirit and we're transformed.
-
We share, and then we repeat. We receive again from
-
the Holy Spirit. We continue to be transformed. We share, repeat, transform, share, repeat.
-
This is happening through your whole life, because, believe it
-
or not, you are not who used to be when
-
you were twenty. That sounded like some needs that start popping. Amen,
-
But I'm not just talking about the physical thing. You
-
are also spiritually. You should not be thinking the same
-
way you thought when you were twenty because the Holy Spirit.
-
As you receive the Holy Spirit, he what transforms you,
-
and you are being changed into the likeness of Christ.
-
And then you share that good news about the change,
-
the things that you're experiencing, the things that God is
-
doing in your life. And guess what others are also
-
being changed to? Well, why do you need the Holy Spirit? See?
-
Because most of us we would settle just to be
-
visual Christians. Right, it's gonna be a casual Christian, go
-
to church, sing a couple songs, pray a little bit,
-
and do all the other things. Because what it's really
-
about is really about me, you know, doing well for
-
myself and doing well for my family and doing well
-
in the world. Well, I want to let you know
-
that the Holy Spirit is not concerned about your personal gain.
-
The Holy Spirit is there to equip you to spread
-
the message of Christ. The Holy Spirit does not care
-
about your house, your car, how much money you have
-
in the bank. If you got the two point five kids,
-
and I think the five is that little dog right,
-
And no, the Holy Spirit's not concerned about that. The
-
Holy Spirit wants to equip you to share the good news.
-
Because everybody will not have a house. Somebody's gonna live
-
in an apartment. Somebody's not gonna have a car. Somebody
-
takes public transportation. But that same person who lives in
-
the apartment and lives and takes the bus or takes
-
the train, that the same person as being equipped to
-
be filled with the Holy Spirit to share and spread
-
the good news of Jesus. It's not about our stuff.
-
The Holy Spirit doesn't care about your stuff. The Holy
-
Spirit cares about you being equipped to carry the good
-
news of Jesus. Well, why is the Holy Spirit so
-
important to the believer? Why, I'm gonna give you the
-
short list of why the Holy Spirit is so important
-
to the believer. Now, remember this is the short list,
-
short list in alphabetical order. Are you ready? The Holy
-
Spirit gives us access to God, anoints us for service,
-
assures us, author's scripture, baptizes us, burst believers, calls and commissions, cleanses,
-
convicts of sin, creates, empowers believers, fills believers, gives gifts,
-
glorifies Christ, guides us into truth, helps in our weakness.

Can I take a breath and dwells in the inspires,
-
prayer into seeds, interpret scripture, leads, liberates, molds, character, produces fruit,
-
raises from the dead, regenerates, sanctify, seals, strengthens, teaches, testifies
-
of Jesus, and gives us victory over the flesh. And
-
that's the short list. So much more that the Holy
-
Spirit does for the believer. You need the Holy Spirit.
-
We need the Holy Spirit. There's no one who can
-
make this life's journey without the Holy Spirit. Several years ago,
-
I was traveling from Chicago to Indianapolis, and I normally
-
fly on Southwest, and you know why, your bags fly free,
-
and so seemed like the flights were always a little
-
cheaper or something. You know that that was my airline
-
but this particular flight, I was flying on a different carrier,
-
and the carrier was going from Chicago to Indianapolis. And
-
so I got on the plane, paid for my bags
-
and my original destination, and on this one hour trip,
-
I think it's even shorter now, this one hour trip,
-
I was just ready to get home, had been journeying,
-
ready to get home. My wife was going to pick
-
me up from the airport. And so I got on
-
the plane and my phone had started. I was in
-
the red zone. You know what the red zone means.
-
It's like it's about to die. But I was like, oh,
-
we're good, I'll charge it when I get there, when
-
we get in the car, I'll be fine. So I
-
didn't call home right away. But then all of a sudden,
-
my phone went past the red zone and it said
-
and it died. Then we were on the tar. I'm
-
at for over an hour, almost two hours, just waiting,
-
waiting because there was bad weather in Indianapolis. So what's
-
great at Chicago was like, why can't we go? Well,
-
the weather's okay, fine. So I'm sitting there and I'm
-
becoming a little anxious because I'm looking around and I
-
know my wife at this point is at the airport
-
waiting for me, and you know, we don't like to
-
go into the airport. Just you know, call me and
-
I'll come up, pick you up, swoop you up. And
-
so I'm like, I need to let her know something.
-
So I'm sitting in this row, I'm sitting seated here,
-
and there's a lady by the window. There's an open
-
seat here, and I'm just watching this lady and she's
-
on her phone and she's just and I'm like a
-
little envious, a little jealous, and so I'm looking at
-
her and I'm like, man, I wish my phone was working.
-
I wish I could call my wife. And I'm thinking
-
in my head, you know what, maybe you should just
-
ask her if you can use her phone to call
-
your wife and let her know that you're okay. And
-
then while I'm sitting there, I said, you are a
-
grown man. You are not about to ask this woman
-
to use her phone like some little fifth grader. So
-
I fought through that and I became a little more humble,
-
and I said, excuse me, ma'am, would it be okay
-
if I use your phone to call home and just
-
let my wife know that I'm okay that we're delayed
-
a little bit. And she looked at me and she said,
-
what's wrong with your phone? Yeah, there you go talking
-
to God's special people again. Well, ma'am, my phone died
-
and so I don't have I can't call. And then
-
she said to me, she said, do you have a
-
charge accord? Lady? I'm just like, really, okay. Now I
-
could have sad anywhere on this plane, but I selected
-
this seat. This is what I selected for my life.
-
And so I was like, well, ma'am, still being respectful,
-
because we got to be respectful, right, I'm the person
-
in need. She could say whatever she want to say.
-
So I said, yes, ma'am, I do have a charge
-
of cord. It's in my in my laptop bag. And
-
she said, good, that doesn't solve my problem. She said, well,
-
if you get your cord and plug it into your phone,
-
and then you take that same chord and plug it
-
in the little outlet that's down here under the seat,
-
you can have power. So I'm the problem. I'm the problem.
-
It's not her. She's not special. He's not going to
-
any No, that's not one of God's special people. She's
-
somebody who knows what's going on on this plane. Because
-
I was with a different carrier, I didn't realize I
-
was sitting on power all along. I want to let
-
you know that's just like the Church. Many of us
-
are sitting on power that we have not access. We
-
have batteries that are dying, spiritual batteries that are dying.
-
And the Lord is saying, if you just get plugged
-
into the Holy Spirit, if you will just plug in,
-
I will empower your life. I will allow you to
-
do the work that the Spirit is calling for. That
-
when you walk into different places, you are so amplified
-
with the power of God that people know there's something
-
different about you. That you came to do business that
-
devils tremble, when you walk into spaces that you're taking
-
back territory, that you're shining light in darkness, that sickness
-
says nine fooling with him today. I gotta get up
-
off this person because they just walked into the room.
-
I want to let you know that when you get
-
in filled with the Holy Spirit, when you allow the
-
power of God to rule in your life, things around
-
you start to change. Situations start to change, marriages start
-
to change, your kids start to change. When you surrender
-
everything to the Holy Spirit, there's a change that happens
-
in your life this morning, Church, I am telling you.
-
I know it feels good to be saved and to
-
know that Heaven is going to be your internal home.
-
But I want to ask you, what will you do
-
for the kingdom? Where will you cause things that are
-
dark to see the light of Christ? Where will you
-
step into the spaces empowered and begin to do the
-
things that God wants. The Spirit is waiting on you,
-
just like in Genesis, hovering and waiting. Will you stand
-
on your feet with me today? What happens when the
-
overflow comes? What happened when the overflow comes and starts
-
to impact our lives. When the overflow comes, it takes
-
control of everything. I don't know if you've ever had
-
a flood in your home, your basement ever flooded. Several
-
years ago, one of our kids probably brushing their teeth
-
in the morning, and we were rushing out the door,
-
and they left folk the bathroom sink on all day long.
-
Eight hours. We came home and there was water from
-
the second floor where the bathroom was, all the way down.
-
There was an overflow. You can't control water. You can't
-
hold it back. When it starts to move, it does
-
what it wants to do. It goes where it wants
-
to go. I want to let you know the Holy
-
Spirit is just like that. The Holy Spirit wants to
-
go to spaces that you have access to. To your classroom,
-
you're the teacher. Wait until the Holy Spirit comes into
-
your classroom. Wait until the Holy Spirit walks into the supermarket,
-
into the bank, Wait until the Holy Spirit gets on
-
the bus and sits beside a stranger. Lives will be
-
changed when you allow the Holy Spirit to take control.
-
I want to pray for you this morning. I want
-
to pray that you will release control, that you'll stop
-
trying to control your narratives, control how God operates in
-
your life, and allow the Holy Spirit to do something
-
that you may not even be ready for, but I
-
promise you it will be beautiful. When you release control,
-
you're changed and others are changed. To let us pray, Father,
-
I thank you who for this message. God. I feel
-
you in this place and somebody's in that space right now.
-
They've been trying to fix it themselves. They've been trying
-
to do it themselves. They've been tweaking it and trying
-
to make it work. But Lord, I pray that you
-
will help them to take their hands off and to
-
invite the Holy Spirit to live in them. Holy Spirit,
-
come come and fill every open vessel. The vessel doesn't
-
need to be empty, Holy Spirit, but just available. And
-
when you come, you will empty out everything that doesn't
-
need to be there and fill it with your presence,
-
fill it with your power. That we can do the
-
work that Jesus spoke about. That we will be your witnesses,
-
the witnesses of the Kingdom, and all the spaces, the
-
high spaces, the load spaces, and every space in between
-
that we will go. We will say, we will do
-
only what the Spirit says. That we will be so
-
sensitive and so tender to your presence that will acknowledge
-
when we walk in a space and the space says
-
that the Holy Spirit is necessary, that miracles can take
-
place because we are open, open us up. Let nothing
-
stop us. I pray this now.
-
For every receptive ear, every receptive heart, every receptive believer
-
to receive be filled, transformed, refreshed by the Holy Spirit.
-
And She's as name. Let us all say Amen, Amen, hallelujah.
