  7. this morning we are starting a new series called Abundance

  8. or titles Abundance for next four weeks. The title of

  9. this message this morning is living in the Overflow. Living

  10. in the Overflow. So when I was growing up, my

  11. aunt and inkle just to live down the road about

  12. five minutes literally found at my family when I was

  13. a kid, lived at in five minutes, just the way

  14. it was in the village where we grew up. And

  15. my uncle was a great gardener. He went to university

  16. in Hungary and then moved to the UK, and so

  17. he studied agriculture. He could grow anything, and so in

  18. the back of their house they had two allotments, and

  19. so from March through to October that's where he spent

  20. his evenings in the allotment. That was his thing, and

  21. he could grow anything. So it used to happen at

  22. a certain time of year. Mama used to come home

  23. with a bag of veg because they grow more than

  24. enough and they couldn't get rid of it quick enough

  25. because they just you know, when you've got a fertile soil,

  26. it grows.

  27. And it grows, and it grows and it grows.

  28. So we used to get this bag and bags of food,

  29. and so did their neighbors, and so did their friends.

  30. And that was every year, and.

  31. It got to the stage where I used to expect

  32. at a certain time of year these bags, shopping bags

  33. of food coming around. And we ate back in the

  34. day organic veg so there you go from the garden,

  35. not from the supermarket. And it's something about that that

  36. couple that the abundance they got from their garden, they

  37. always shared, you know, with vegetables, lettice, carrot, etc.

  38. Etcetera.

  39. There's a shelf life, so one should cut it and

  40. take it out of the ground. It needs to being

  41. fairly quickly. So they with o vergence then knew how

  42. to share their abundance and just start this new season

  43. about abundance. Today, I don't talk about vegetables, but I

  44. want to talk about how God sees abundance. He wants

  45. to challenge our thinking. He wants to challenge our perceptions

  46. that we have. Sometimes we've grown up with those perceptions,

  47. sometimes we've learned those perceptions. But he wants to challenge

  48. and speak to each one individually, whether you're listening online,

  49. whether you're listening later. He wants to speak to us individually.

  50. So don't think about the Sunday dinner. Don't think we're

  51. going to be out next week. Focus on what he

  52. is saying, and let's see what he reveals to us

  53. through the Word this morning. So let's pray, Holypit, we

  54. do well, kee me this morning. Please open the Word

  55. to us that we might receive the truth that you're

  56. have in it. They we might see something new, something different,

  57. that we might understand more of your word, more of

  58. your character, and more about abundance.

  59. John three sixteen.

  60. Says, for God so loved the world that he gave

  61. his only bigot, than some who weather believed in him

  62. shall not perish but have everlasting life. That's a well

  63. known scripture that has been to a church as a

  64. kid or as your older. So for God's love the

  65. world that he gave his only son, that's Jesus, the

  66. ever believes in him shall not perish, but however lasting life. Now,

  67. if you don't know Jesus, come and speak to me

  68. later after the preach. Okay, just come and find meal.

  69. The conversation. But what I want to see about this

  70. word is for God's love the world that he gave.

  71. God's character is to give, right. God's character is to give.

  72. In life, you meet people who are givers, and you

  73. meet people who are natural givers, and your people who

  74. just take.

  75. You can meet.

  76. You can tell you met to give because they give freely.

  77. And then the begrudging giver, Okay, I'll share you. I'll

  78. share my car, or I'll share my suitees or I'll

  79. share my whatever. But there's those people. There's those people

  80. who will share naturally. Just depends on their character, depends

  81. what they've been told. But God's character is to give.

  82. That is just the way he is. So we can

  83. look at them the scriptures this morning and take us

  84. through a journey and let's see. Let's see what he does.

  85. One Kings and seventeen is the story of Elijah and

  86. his journey with One King seventeen when he speaks to Ahab.

  87. So I'm going to pick up from verse one, read

  88. through to verse seven, and Elijah, the tishbite of the

  89. inhabitants of Gilead said to Ahab, as a lord, the

  90. God of Israel lives before whom I stand, there shall

  91. not be due or reign these.

  92. Years except by my word.

  93. The word of Lord came to him, saying, get away

  94. from here and turn eastward and hide by the brook Cherith,

  95. which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that

  96. you shall drink from the brook as Ak, and I

  97. have commanded the ravens to feed you there. So he

  98. went and did according to the word of God. And

  99. he went and stayed by the brook Cherith, which flowed

  100. into the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat

  101. in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening,

  102. and he drank from the brook. And it happened that

  103. while that while, that brook dried up because there was

  104. no rain in the land. So notice God met Elijah

  105. at the point of his need. He provided water, he

  106. provided bread, provide a protein. But then the brook dried up.

  107. I mean Elijah had spoken God's word. It was not

  108. going to rain, so it didn't rain, and the brook

  109. dried up. So he got up. Verse seven says so

  110. verse nine. Verse nine of verse seventeen says, arise, go

  111. to Zarafeth, which belongs to Sidon, and well, there see

  112. you've commanded a widow there to provide for you. So

  113. he arose and went to Zaratheth. Is it interesting that

  114. God sends Elijah the prophet to a widow to provide

  115. for him. He didn't say, go and see this rich dude,

  116. of this rich person down there, he's got lots of food.

  117. Go to widow women outside Israel's God's ways. Sometimes that

  118. are our ways. God's ways are doing things. Sometimes that

  119. our ways are doing things. Sometimes he does things that

  120. we think are out there. But that's always a purpose

  121. behind the way things God does things. The key thing

  122. is to listen and obey. So, picking up from verse

  123. ten of chapter seventeen, So he arose and went to Zaratheth.

  124. When he came to the gate of the city, indeed,

  125. a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called her

  126. and said to her, please bring me a little water

  127. in a cup that I may drink. And she said,

  128. And as she was going to get it, he called

  129. to her and said, please bring me a morsel of

  130. bread in your hand. So she said, as the Lord

  131. your God lives, I do not have bread, only a

  132. handful of flour and a bit in a bin, and

  133. a little oil in a jar. And see, I'm gathering

  134. a couple of sticks, that I may go and prepare

  135. it for myself and my son, that we may eat

  136. it and die. Elijah said to her, do not fear

  137. go and do as you said, But make me a

  138. small cake first and bring it to me, and afterwards

  139. make some for yourself and your son for us, says

  140. the Lord God of Israel. There been a flower, shall

  141. not be used up, nor the jar of oil and

  142. dry until the day the Lord sends rain. So again

  143. we see God providing through a different way.

  144. For Elijah.

  145. Isn't interesting go to the widow with them in in Zarafath?

  146. So he rocked up to Zarathaith, and it's looking around

  147. the town. This lady's there. You just approached her. Give

  148. me some water and then give me something to each

  149. didn't bat an Eyelid only spoke about water, even though

  150. there was a drought. As soon as he mentioned food,

  151. that was her pressure point. Of course, she only had

  152. a little oil and a little meal. What quality that

  153. was and how rance that was at that time, I

  154. don't know, but that was her the last dregs of

  155. what she had. But interesting, she obeyed what he said

  156. and asked sheray obeyed the word of God came, which

  157. was this bin of flower what I'm gonna call it,

  158. isn't gonna run down, and this jirab oil is not

  159. going to deplete until the rain comes. Now, about what

  160. when I see from these both, these two accounts about

  161. Elijah by the brook and Elijah with the woman of

  162. Zarah Feth, is that God met them at the point

  163. of their need, that meat of that need. Was miraculous

  164. in what he did. And I'm sure if we went

  165. round this room today and ask people about what God

  166. had done for them, people put their hand up and say, yes,

  167. God did that for me. He met my need miraculously,

  168. or he met my need. I remember working with the

  169. guy and he.

  170. Bought a house. He was a builder.

  171. And worthy at the back of the house, as there

  172. was a massive conservatory.

  173. It's quite something.

  174. He came out at the back of the house and

  175. went up by the fancy roof and they went right

  176. at the back of the house, and that's where they

  177. had their dining kitchen. But when he bought it, he

  178. found out as a leak. So when if you ever

  179. buy a house, it's quite quite expensive. And when you

  180. bought the house and paid the legal fee you and

  181. all the rest of it. Usually you have to wait

  182. for a while before you've got to just spend some

  183. more money, because you always stretched the best you can get. Anyway,

  184. he said to me, I don't know how this happened,

  185. but over the last last through in three months, nothing

  186. miraculous happened. But I got the money together to fix

  187. the problem. Even though I put out a lot of money.

  188. I got it.

  189. Because God works in the supernatural, but in the natural,

  190. and he meets our need. That is something that he

  191. does just because he is God. He meets us at

  192. the point of our need. Another story, years ago, I

  193. used to work with the kids, I mean many years

  194. ago before something you people are born, and the team

  195. he used to work withrowing a chat and was a

  196. lady who.

  197. Knew somebody in the church.

  198. And the conversation went like this, I don't have enough

  199. money to get me to the end of the month.

  200. And so the lady said, okay, so do you tithe?

  201. And she said no, I can't tithe because of her tie.

  202. I still have no money to get to the end

  203. of the month. So the lady said, well, you're not

  204. making it to the end the month now, so why

  205. do you trust God and tithe?

  206. So she said, okay, I give it a go.

  207. So anyway, I got an update a few weeks later,

  208. and the and the and the story went like this,

  209. we started tithing.

  210. And I don't understand it, but.

  211. Everything that we need to meet, all the bills, all

  212. the food, everything has been paid for and they've got

  213. money left over. But but it's still the same amount

  214. of money coming in. Now, some of you may relate

  215. to that, so you might not relate to that. I

  216. certainly can relate to that. And I said those two

  217. things to say this God meets us at the point

  218. of our need. We know that, we believe that we

  219. receive that right. That is something that we as believers know.

  220. If you're not in if you don't know him, if

  221. you don't have that relationship, this be like over one's

  222. head because it's not something of experience. You can only

  223. talk from experience. You can't talk for something you don't know.

  224. Otherwise you're just blowing in the wind, you know. Go

  225. back to my notes now, So this morning God wants

  226. us to stretch our understanding of who he is and

  227. what he can do for us. Okay, Philippin's four nineteen

  228. says that's why he's got the hebun Greek in it.

  229. And my God shall supply all your needs according to

  230. his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. And that's something

  231. we've all experienced, God providing all our needs. Now the

  232. Greek word there is sarier, which can also be translated want,

  233. so you could say, and my God shall supply all

  234. my wants accint as riches in glory in Christ Jesus,

  235. which has a bit out there for some people.

  236. You look at the amplified version of.

  237. Filippings four and verse six, it says this, do not

  238. fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every

  239. circumstance and in everything, by praying, petition, definitely requests with thanksgiving,

  240. continue to make your wants known to God. And God's

  241. peace shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul

  242. issued of its salvation through Christ. And so fearing nothing

  243. from God and being content with the earthy lot about

  244. I would never thought that is that peace which transcends

  245. our understanding, shall garrison amount God over your hearts and

  246. minds in the anoint to Jesus Christ is the Greek

  247. word translated Messiah or anointed. All right, do not a

  248. threat to have an anxiety? Who's ever thret had I

  249. had anxiety before?

  250. Or is it just me?

  251. In every circumstance and everything with thanksgiving, make your wants

  252. known to God. What God wants to talk to this

  253. morning is about understanding. Yes, he meets as a point

  254. of our need, but also he meets our wants. That's

  255. of the million a drive with a Rose Royce tomorrow,

  256. or have my own private jet to go on holiday,

  257. you know, because not this's in need that, but something

  258. I do want, something I do want, he will give me.

  259. I remember at the end of COVID, my wife's car

  260. was fourteen fifteen years old and it was we recognized

  261. that he needed to be replaced. He was like, okay,

  262. we've got it for it's been for a while. Now

  263. we need to go and get another one. We tend

  264. to keep a card on as possible for it, you know,

  265. And is that optimum point when you've got to get

  266. rid of it? And then we get rid of it.

  267. So I said, what do you want? So my wife's short,

  268. so a certain car, she can't sit in the seat

  269. because the gap between the back of the seat and

  270. the front of the seat means she can't touch the

  271. floor or breach the pedals. Now that might be a

  272. revelation for some of you taller people, but that's the fact.

  273. So anyway, so you've got to use So we had

  274. to look find the car which has the right seat depth.

  275. You know, she just can.

  276. Touch the feet. The feet so eats the car in

  277. the steering and all the rest of it. So we

  278. found a car tightly does that. And I said, what

  279. do you want? She said, well, look, I really like

  280. a sunroof. I had a car two or three times

  281. ago where the suroof, But this car does have a

  282. su roof. Now, if you know a thing about cars,

  283. there's a transition from cars having some roofs to cars

  284. having their conditioning and cards of their condition don't necessarily

  285. have a su roof because there's not this. So what

  286. you want, you know, with the sum roof open, you

  287. can't you know, you get the heat coming in, but

  288. you don't get the cool air. Anyway, So I found

  289. her a car which had a sum roof. Believe god,

  290. got a deal, got a good deal, actually paying more

  291. for that Mike car, and I thought it was worth

  292. and I found this car sev undred miles away in Vaness,

  293. and God brought it down for my wife. And now

  294. you know, she's got this car with a some roof,

  295. with something that she wanted. God knew she wanted this,

  296. and she's very happy with it. I think the word

  297. I would say it doesn't get old anywhere between May

  298. and October, that some roof will be open and somebody's

  299. very happy with their some roof. Now, just she was

  300. as an example, that was a want all right. It

  301. wasn't like I need that, mate, I need that. It

  302. was a want light story. But it makes the point

  303. and the point God is trying to make to us

  304. today is he wants to move us from understanding about

  305. meetings the point of our need, through to the meetings appointment,

  306. through meeting our wants. Other words, God isn't limited, so

  307. why do we limit him?

  308. Right?

  309. I think the Bible says Matthew seven, if he gives

  310. you a kid, yeah, let's look correct, let me find it.

  311. Matthew seven, Here we go. What manners there among you?

  312. If his son asked for bread, will give him a stone?

  313. Or if he asked for a fish, or give him

  314. a serpent? If then being evil. You know how to

  315. give good gifts to your jother, how much most of

  316. your father give the Holy Spirit to you. So look

  317. in other words, God as a father gives us good gifts. Right,

  318. He's not going to give you a stone. I'm not

  319. going to give you a serpent. Anyone that was a

  320. father here would not give his kid a stone. I'll

  321. give him kid a sap. He would give him something

  322. that he know he wants, so I know he needs.

  323. I remember one guy who I knew, you know, his

  324. kid wanted this certain toy and it was like the

  325. toy know he could find. And they were both on

  326. this mission to find this toy, the toy, but they

  327. were keen in it and they were believing God to

  328. get this toy. This might sound a bit out there

  329. for some people, but the trusted God and God got

  330. this little boy what he wanted, and they were both

  331. made up. The dad has made up because the kid

  332. had what he wanted, and the kids made up he

  333. had as well. The point was God met these people

  334. at not they want, so that didn't need, but they want. Okay,

  335. Now the challenge is for us this morning we're listening

  336. online or in the room, God wants us to stretch

  337. beyond want.

  338. You might say, what is beyond want? Yeah? I did,

  339. John ten ten am befire diversion. You got it.

  340. The thief comes in order to steal and to kill

  341. and to destroy. I came they might have life and

  342. have it more abundantly to the full till it overflows.

  343. So what goes on to challenge us today is we

  344. know you can meet our needs. We know he can

  345. give us what we want.

  346. That's right, love.

  347. I wasn't gonna know that about to dance. I don't

  348. do dancing. You don't want to see that. He wants

  349. to go beyond need. He wants to go beyond want.

  350. He wants to go into abundance. The title this message

  351. is living in the overflow. God wants to stretch our thinking.

  352. So where we're living in the overflow, okay, he might

  353. have life to the full until it overflows. So that's

  354. life physically, physical life, spiritual life, emotional life, financial life,

  355. social life, life in all its fullness, not just a

  356. compartment to something. So there's many people who believe God

  357. for what they need. There's some people who believe God

  358. for what they want. What God stretching us. This morning

  359. is will you believe him for the overflow? Will you

  360. believe him for the overflow? I haven't spoken this word before,

  361. you know, So it's quite interesting what reactions are going

  362. to get with from people. You're watching these people's faces.

  363. They sit there, they go oooh, not sure about that. But

  364. God wants us to believe us for the overflow. Yeah,

  365. if we stretch to it, we'll live in that space.

  366. Ephesian three twenty start reading in nineteen says, and it's

  367. the amplified version that you may really come to know

  368. practically through experience for yourselves, the love of Christ, which

  369. far suppresses from your knowledge without experience, that you may

  370. be filled through all your being, unto all the fullness

  371. of God, that you may have the richest measure of

  372. the divine presence and become a body wholly filled and

  373. flooded with God himself.

  374. That's pretty good now to.

  375. Him who, by in consequence of the action of His

  376. power that is a work within us, is able to

  377. carry out his purpose and do super abundantly far over

  378. and above all that we dare ask or think, infinitely

  379. beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, and dreams. So

  380. there this stretchess to you this morning. This morning is

  381. verse twenty Phsion three, verse twenty. Now to him by

  382. in consequence of the actions of His power that is

  383. a work within us, is able to carry out his

  384. purpose and do super abundantly far over and above that

  385. we all dare ask or think beyond, infinitely beyond our

  386. highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes and dreams. Now we've all

  387. had our needs met, we've all seen wants met. But

  388. we're not all living in that overflow. And that's not

  389. a problem. But the challenge today from the Lord is

  390. we need to stretch to that. That means we need

  391. to be expectant. That needs me to follow the word

  392. of God, follow his principles. That needs it means he

  393. needs to trust us. My aunt and uncle when they

  394. had all those that vegetables as a kid, and all

  395. his big bags being dumped on the counter, they just

  396. gave it away. Sometimes God may give us some overflow

  397. just to give it away, sometimes to make give us

  398. some overflow to bless us. Yeah, because God is a

  399. giver and he wants us to align with his nature.

  400. If God gives you an extra house and you know

  401. some of your needs a house, then give him the house.

  402. If God tells you to do so. It's like Simon

  403. Sons needs a house, give him a house. Yeah, you

  404. can't win two, can you. I'm trying to say, is

  405. that with walking in the overflow, there is there is responsibility.

  406. Yeah.

  407. I know this is new to a lot of people.

  408. This is fairly new to me. I spoke this before.

  409. I'm aware of the principle. But you know, some people

  410. get a bit heavy about oh gossip. I can't believe

  411. for God for overflow. I can't even be of God

  412. for need. But that's not what the Lot said to me.

  413. When I was praying about this word. He said, put

  414. it out there so to the people to stretch to it. Yeah,

  415. so this might be weird, but that's what I was given. So, yes,

  416. he can meet us the point of our need. Yes,

  417. you can provide what we want. But more than this

  418. is the God of abundance to the full until it overflows.

  419. The challenge for us is he wants us to stretch

  420. to that. So the head of this preach, I said,

  421. God speak to us all individually, because we're all in

  422. different places. And you know you can say so from

  423. the front here and then we go, oh would you do?

  424. But then when you go out and have to live

  425. it out, it's different because you know you've got to

  426. work out what God is saying to you. As an individual.

  427. He is easy. Out there is the challenge. So let's pray, Father,

  428. pray in the name of Jesus for everyone in this room.

  429. Everyone listening to a line. Everyone listened.

  430. Later they would come to know you of the God

  431. of abundance, the God of more than enough, the God

  432. of overflow.

  433. His help was all to stretch to that understanding. I

  434. appreciate it. This is.

  435. Novel for summers. But you are the God of the overflow.

  436. You are the God of abundance. He's over to see

  437. what we need to do in our lives to align

  438. with that, and see you as that in our lives.

  439. Lord in Jesus name. Amen.
