  1. Anybody ready for Christmas yet, anybody who follows an you're

  2. on social media, you wrapped all your presents already, haven't you?

  3. Any I think I think that's just showing off. But no,

  4. good job, good job, good job, well organized. He's already

  5. wrapped all her presents. If you change your if you

  6. if you wrap presents for Christmas, it's just a blessing.

  7. I don't know what you do when you wrap. I'm

  8. a rubbish rapper. You can tell because my rapping looks

  9. like rubbish by the time I've finished. So I'm going

  10. to just share a short word as in an Advent

  11. Carol service today the beginning of Christmas, the first of December.

  12. What a great day to start Advent on the first

  13. of December. Yeah, it's just everything aligns. The calendars aligned

  14. this year. That's great. And so we're going to gather

  15. around some scripture. I just want to share Advent is

  16. a time of expectation. Do you know what some of

  17. the scriptures we heard this morning we could almost echo

  18. and say we've seen some of those things happen in

  19. our church. Back in September, Colleen and Brett brought their

  20. son Matthew to church for the first time, and Brett

  21. stood up and he said, we were believing for a child,

  22. but we were old. He said this, I'm not making

  23. this up. I'm not calling him old. He said he

  24. was old. And he said, we kind of given up.

  25. And we got to a place where we were going

  26. to go and adopt or foster. And on the day

  27. they went, we're planned to go to see the social

  28. work of the adoption people. They went for a scan

  29. and Matthew was born this summer. And you know, he said,

  30. in the natural he'd given up. But once the baby

  31. was on the way, once there was a bump inside,

  32. once Colleen had a bump, there was expectation.

  33. Do you know what.

  34. Brett's a bit of a nervous dad, but he's a

  35. loving daddy. He loves with his baby son. And you know,

  36. you could tell that every day he posts something on

  37. social media. Look at my son, Look what he's doing.

  38. There's an expectation in their hearts. Even when he's not

  39. being well this week, another one who's not being well

  40. this week. You know, they're still believing for the goodness

  41. of God, the blessings of God, the purposes of God,

  42. and so advents a time of expectation. There's no better

  43. illustration than there's a baby coming. But if you haven't

  44. got a baby coming in your family, okay, just think

  45. about gardening, think about planting seed.

  46. We read from Isaiah.

  47. There was reading from Isaiah that talked about the desert blossoming.

  48. If you live in a dry country, then in the

  49. when you come to the end of the dry season,

  50. it's meant to rain. You're heading towards the wet season.

  51. You know, there are people saying, where's the rain, where's

  52. the rain? Has it come? Is it coming? And Scripture

  53. often says there's an expectation in the hearts. He says,

  54. can you see the cloud and what's declared? I can

  55. see the cloud the size of a man's hand. That's

  56. a tiny cloud. That really is a tiny cloud. But

  57. there's an expectation. There's a cloud. So there's rain coming,

  58. and there's rain coming, so growth will come. Because there's

  59. growth coming, then what that means there will be fruitfulness.

  60. So let's get into our first scripture. Thank you, Michah.

  61. I'm going to read it from the screen and it's

  62. in James chapter five, verses seven and eight, and it's

  63. in that moment of expectation, What should our what should

  64. our state be, what should our sense be? Therefore, be patient,

  65. brethren in the waiting until the coming of the Lord.

  66. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of

  67. the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the

  68. earth early and latter rains. You also be patient, establish

  69. your hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

  70. Jesus is coming back for his church. We're heading towards Christmas,

  71. and we're celebrating the fact that Jesus was born, born

  72. in a stable, and we had scriptures there that talked

  73. about Elizabeth, again being old in age, expecting a child unexpectedly,

  74. and the baby inside her wound leapt when she heard

  75. the good news.

  76. So are we expectant? Is Christmas?

  77. Now? The children have gone out to Sunday school, so

  78. I can say this safely, But what's on their present list?

  79. What are they expecting? Have you ever, maybe as a child,

  80. maybe even as an adult, there was something you.

  81. Really, really, really really.

  82. Really wanted for Christmas and you kind of got a

  83. bit of a hint from mum, dad, or aunts or

  84. uncle or grandparents.

  85. That there might be a possibility.

  86. I had a friend of mine who has a son,

  87. I guess was thirteen at the time, and he wanted

  88. an iPad for Christmas. And he kind of given all

  89. the subtle hints. He'd taken pictures, he'd saved things on

  90. the home computer. He even saved a picture of the

  91. iPad on the screensaver on the computer. So every time

  92. the computer came on, Mum and Dad saw the picture

  93. of this iPad. He wasn't subtle about it at all.

  94. Do you know what?

  95. Dad was a bit naughty, And so what Dad did

  96. was Dad wrapped him up a present, and he wrapped

  97. him up a present, and it was an apple, a

  98. physical apple. But he cut the apple in half and

  99. inside the apple was a key, and the key was

  100. a key to a box. So the child opened the

  101. apple and went, oh, He said, you wanted an apple,

  102. so I'm giving you an apple.

  103. I'm a good father. I've given you an apple. And

  104. the son.

  105. You could see the son's jaw on the floor. But

  106. this is not what I expected. He had expectation in

  107. his heart. And then he put the apple down and

  108. the dad said to him, are you're not going to

  109. eat it? He said, no, no, I'll eat it later.

  110. He said, no, no, I think you ought to eat it.

  111. Now.

  112. He said, but be careful because there might be something inside.

  113. And so the sun suddenly thinks, okay, there can't be

  114. an iPad inside my apple. But he thinks, well, okay,

  115. dad's telling me good things are here. So he bit

  116. into the apple. He bet a few more times than

  117. there was a key, and he took the key out,

  118. and then the dad said, okay, that's a key for something.

  119. And the son said, what's he a key for, thinking

  120. maybe maybe his dad had got him a radio controlled

  121. car or something. What's it a key for? And he said, oh,

  122. that's another present. And so he opens another present. There's

  123. just a piece of paper inside that says go to

  124. the front door. And he goes to the front door,

  125. and there's a box on the front doorsteps on the

  126. front doorstep, and he opens, he says, and he's got

  127. a lock on it. He says, how do I get

  128. in here? He said, well, you've got the key, and

  129. so he unlocks the box with the key and inside

  130. another present, and inside that present was his iPad. Now,

  131. just think about the roller coaster ride that that young

  132. boy went through. Oh, my dad's got me something Oh

  133. it's an apple. Oh it's got something inside. He's brought

  134. me a box.

  135. Please.

  136. I'm not recommending this necessarily for parents, but maybe I've

  137. sowed some ideas for you. Expectation scripture says, hope deferred

  138. makes the heart sick. If you raise people's hopes and

  139. you drop them. Now, things happen. Sometimes we do get

  140. our hopes raised and things go.

  141. Oh.

  142. But you know, if we keep on doing that, if

  143. we keep on doing that, we build a expectation of

  144. a roller coaster ride that everything's going to be. Life

  145. is full of disappointment.

  146. Do you know what? I believe?

  147. Life can be full of celebration, full of love, full

  148. of hope. It doesn't mean we don't have valley experiences,

  149. but we can climb out of the valley to the

  150. next mountain, and God is with us on the mountains

  151. as well as in the valleys. Let's come to our

  152. second scripture, thanks Michaeh. And it's from Luke chapter one,

  153. verses twenty six to thirty. Now, in the sixth month,

  154. the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city

  155. of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a

  156. man whose name was Joseph of the House of David.

  157. The virgin's name was Mary, And having come in, the

  158. Angel said to her, rejoice, highly favored one. The Lord

  159. is with you. Blessed are you amongst women? And when

  160. she saw him, she was troubled at his saying and

  161. considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the Angel

  162. said to her, do not be afraid, Mary, for you

  163. have found favor with God. Expectation she was promised to

  164. a man.

  165. Betroth.

  166. There's expectation as you go towards a wedding, isn't there.

  167. There's some weddings that are going on in twenty twenty five.

  168. There's expectation in the couple as they're heading towards their wedding.

  169. But then she finds herself pregnant. And now, I don't

  170. know how many people have met an angel in the room,

  171. but do you know what, there's one sitting at the front. Yes,

  172. And for anybody who doesn't know, her name is Angel.

  173. So she's living out her name. She's living out her name.

  174. I don't wear a halo because I don't wear a

  175. halo because I don't deserve a halo. But we have

  176. an angel in the room. We have an angel in

  177. the room. And do you know what? When God brings angels,

  178. there is purpose. Sometimes people need to see God manifest

  179. in a room, in a situation, in a circumstance. Now,

  180. God sends angels when there is expectations. So, Church, I'm

  181. asking you this Christmas, have you got an expectant heart?

  182. For those listening online, for those listening later, for those

  183. who are joining us remotely, have you got an expectant

  184. heart this Christmas? Not for presents, but for His presence.

  185. His presence changes me. You know, there are days when

  186. I'm sometimes a little rude, sometimes a bit little sharp,

  187. because I'm a human like you. But you know what,

  188. when I'm in God's presence, many of those rough edges

  189. rub off or they're softened.

  190. You know.

  191. When I've got expectation, when I'm looking forward, when I'm hoping,

  192. do you know what, there's excitement in my spirit. There's

  193. a joy in my soul, and I can carry and

  194. press into all that God has for me. It doesn't

  195. matter what's coming down that path. If God is with me,

  196. who can be against me? And so my final skill

  197. is this, and it's from Matthew chapter eleven, and John

  198. had heard in prison. So I listened to this. John

  199. was in prison. He heard in prison about the works

  200. of Christ. He sent two of his disciples. Where did

  201. he send him? He said to him, He said to him,

  202. are you the coming one? Or do we look for another?

  203. This is a question about Christ. And Jesus answered and

  204. said to them, go and tell John the things which

  205. you hear and see. The blind sea and the lame walk,

  206. the lepers are cleansed and the deaf. Here the dead

  207. are raised up, and the poor have the Gospel preached

  208. to them.

  209. Jesus when he came.

  210. We can see in that simple scripture, the blind sea,

  211. the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf, here

  212. the dead are raised, the poor have the Gospel preached them.

  213. The Gospel changes things. Church, those listening online, those with

  214. us today, those who are guests today.

  215. What are you expecting? What are you expecting?

  216. If you walk with a limp, are you believing that

  217. God would give you strength back to your legs if

  218. you can't hear? Are you believing that God is going

  219. to open your ears? If maybe you have strength trouble seeing,

  220. are you believing that God is going to open your

  221. eyes again, because all of that speaks of expectation, speaks

  222. of expectation. I have an expectation that God is with

  223. Isabelle right now as we prayed for her. God is

  224. with her, not distant, present, with her, close to her,

  225. and as she walks her journey, God is with her.

  226. And Church I want to say to each one of

  227. us as we walk our journey, God is with us.

  228. But where are we going and what are we believing for?

  229. So this Christmas, this advent, as we start out our

  230. Christmas then where are you heading? Where are you going?

  231. What are you believing for? Some of you already know

  232. your Christmas plans. You know exactly what you're doing. You

  233. probably know exactly what time you're going to be sitting

  234. down to your Christmas meal on Christmas Day. Others have

  235. you less organized than planned. But you know, for some

  236. people it runs on clockwork. You know, when I was

  237. a child, Christmas dinner was finished in time to sit

  238. down and listen to the Queen.

  239. I guess it's the King now, you know.

  240. And actually if we started late, we rushed through our

  241. dinner because we were finishing on time for the Queen.

  242. So some of you will already know what your plans

  243. are for Christmas. You'll know where you're going. But even

  244. if you know where you're going, you can still have

  245. an expectant heart. Lord, I pray that we have great conversation.

  246. Father. I pray there'll be opportunities to pray.

  247. Lord, I pray that you give me and enlarge my

  248. heart for those I'm going to spend time with time

  249. with that Christmas. And so as we begin this season

  250. of advents, I want to say and ask you those

  251. at home, First of all, what are you expecting? Who

  252. are you expecting? If an angel turned up in your

  253. house today? Would you be surprised, would you be excited?

  254. What would you say to them? Because I'm going to

  255. pray now. I'm going to pray because I believe we

  256. as church need to have expectant hearts. And so I'm

  257. going to ask us to close our eyes and bow

  258. our heads, and I'm going to pray firstly for all

  259. of us, but then I'm going to pray specifically for

  260. one or two things. Father, God, would you help us

  261. all this Christmas to keep your son, our Savior, Christ,

  262. at the center of all that we do? And say, Father,

  263. I pray this Christmas, that this season would be full

  264. of joy, full of hope. Father, I pray where people

  265. are struggling with plans, that Lord you'd align things for

  266. good times.

  267. Father.

  268. For those who are looking potentially for a Christmas Day alone, Father,

  269. I pray that you connect family, you connect extended family.

  270. It'd helped the church, the wider church, to be at

  271. work loving those who might be alone. And Father, where

  272. we have gaps, we don't have quite how we're going

  273. to get there. We don't know whether we're going to

  274. make it. Father, I pray that hope would arise, the

  275. joy would arise, the Christmas time would not be a

  276. time of sadness, but a time of joy and hope.

  277. Amen.

  278. Now, before we I said I was going to pray

  279. for something specific, I really want to pray for something

  280. very specific here, and that's you have expectation, unfulfilled expectation

  281. in your heart. God's spoken to you, God's promised you.

  282. There's a promise you're standing on. There's a prophetic word

  283. that you are still turning over. If that's you and

  284. you want to remind God again, not that he needs reminding,

  285. but if you want to stand and say I'm standing again,

  286. for this thing that I'm is expectant in my heart.

  287. Would you stand right now. I'm not going to ask

  288. you what they are. You know what they are. God

  289. knows what they are. But we are standing for a purpose.

  290. There is an unfulfilled expectation. It might be a loved

  291. one coming to Christ. It might be a sick person

  292. being made whole and healed. It might be a new job.

  293. It might God has spoken many times in many different

  294. people's circumstances and situations. But if there is an unfulfilled word,

  295. would you stand, If you're ex expectant that God's going

  296. to do something, you want this and that includes you

  297. at home too, Please do stand, make a step, because God,

  298. you are all. In all, Lord, there are many of

  299. us standing. I'm standing too, there are many You have

  300. us standing, Lord, God. Firstly, for healings. Lord, you are

  301. a God who heals. You're able to heal. You have

  302. healed in the past, you've healed today, and you will

  303. heal again in the future. And so God, we come

  304. and ask of a miracle working God, that you would

  305. do miracles again in these circumstances and situations where people

  306. need health and wholeness. Lord, release your healing power, send

  307. send a healing touch. Lord, God Father, we pray in

  308. Jesus name for those who are battling with mindstorms, with mindsets. Father,

  309. I pray for freedom today in Jesus' name. Father, I

  310. pray for a peace that is supernatural to be upon you,

  311. if that's you today, And Father, for those who are

  312. praying for doors to open for new opportunities. Father, I

  313. pray to Lord that you give us keys when we

  314. need keys, when the doors seem locked. Lord, or Lord

  315. you direct us down a different corridor. But Lord, you

  316. bring us to a place where we are more fruitful

  317. and more blessed and more joyous.

  318. And Father, we.

  319. Pray for those who we've been holding up in prayer

  320. who don't yet know you as their savior. Lord, as

  321. we come to Christmas and the arrival of your son,

  322. we know the full story. We know the complete story.

  323. We have the privilege of the fact that you sent

  324. your one and only son, who ultimately ended up on

  325. the cross and paid the price for my sin and

  326. for our sin, and set us free that we might

  327. know freedom and forgiveness and healing and wholeness. As we

  328. put our trust in our Savior, Jesus Christ, and so Father,

  329. if that's our dear friend's family, Lord, we lift them

  330. up to you and say again, Lord, would you call

  331. them closer to yourself? Would this Christmas be a time

  332. when they hear a gospel message in Jesus' name?

  333. Amen? Angel is going to come and give us another reading.
