  1. Morning. Everybody. You're looking good today. People got some Christmas jumpers,

  2. some new jumpers. I can see some new jumpers I've

  3. never seen before. Maybe they just came out of mothballs.

  4. I don't know. I'm glad to see Anya here. I'm

  5. going to point to Anya. If you've got any questions

  6. about the next thing I'm about to say, ask Kania.

  7. Twenty twenty five is a special year. I asked the

  8. question last week, and some of you may not have

  9. seen it on WhatsApp. What's special about the number twenty

  10. twenty five? One answer would be one plus two up

  11. to nine squared equals twenty twenty five. Also one cubed

  12. plus two cubed all the way up to nine also

  13. equals twenty eight twenty five. And it's a perfect square. Yeah,

  14. twenty twenty five is forty five square. The last time

  15. this happened was in nineteen thirty six. So why am

  16. I bothering to give you all this mathematics. If you've

  17. got any questions about mathematics, ask Gania. Now she's got it.

  18. He's got a great degree in maths from well Holloway.

  19. But all I want to say is it's a special year.

  20. It's a special year. It's a precious year, and he

  21. has meen got got us off to a great start

  22. by saying, you know, a fresh start now, A fresh

  23. start does not have to happen because it's a new year,

  24. a fresh You could have a fresh start this week.

  25. You don't have to beat yourself up and say I

  26. didn't do it last week. Some of you will think

  27. about going to the gym. The gym loves at this

  28. time of year, going hey, you get a special deal,

  29. come to the gym, get fit. And I've spoken to

  30. some people who work in the gym who say it

  31. lasts about three months for many many people, but the

  32. gym makes quite a good chunk of money out of it.

  33. But my point is this, let's not just start because

  34. it's a new year. Let's start because we need to start.

  35. Let's yea if we need to restart, if we need

  36. to reboot. How many people have got a computer or

  37. use a computer? Okay, lots of people. What do technology

  38. What do the technology department say when you've got a problem?

  39. What's the first thing when you ring up the help desk?

  40. What's the first thing they say? Turn it off and

  41. on again. It's a restart. It's a very very simple thing.

  42. It's basically clear out everything that was in it and

  43. start again. And I want to say that to us Church,

  44. let's just clear and rubbish out of the way. Isaiah

  45. forty three. Verses eighteen and nineteen were what we focused

  46. on last week and our ash in our fasting day.

  47. It reminded us to go back to seventeen, which said

  48. forget the former things. Forget the former things. You know,

  49. that's one of the things we need to do when

  50. we make a restart is forget the things that don't

  51. matter anymore, leave them behind, pack them up. Some of

  52. you have spent this week packing up your Christmas decorations

  53. and putting them away. You won't see them again for

  54. twelve months. Some of you are saying hallelujah because he's

  55. all the dust and everything else. Not that we don't

  56. want to celebrate Christmas Church, by the way, but you

  57. know so I want to My title and my theme

  58. for today is not just fresh start, but start now.

  59. Whenever now is for you? Now is now? I wait

  60. ten seconds? Now is now? It just keeps on moving,

  61. So now moves, And so I want to mix in

  62. a whole bunch of things. I want to share a

  63. whole bunch of things. But let me start with Two Corinthians.

  64. Two Corinthians, Chapter two Corinthians, Chapter five, Verse seventeen. Therefore,

  65. if anyone is in Christ, he is or he or

  66. she is a new creation. All things have passed away,

  67. all things have become new. Not some things have become new.

  68. All things have become new. Therefore, is anyone in Christ,

  69. he is a new creation. Church, you are a new creation.

  70. As believers in Christ, you're in a new Kraine. If

  71. you don't know what that means, then come and talk

  72. to me afterwards what it means to put our trust

  73. in Christ and say, He's my savior. He paid the

  74. price for me on the cross at Cavalry. And therefore,

  75. as I put my trust in him, the old things,

  76. the old man, the old woman has been left behind.

  77. And I step into a new clothing, a new dress.

  78. I walk differently, I dress differently, because all the old

  79. things have passed and the new things have come. But

  80. it goes on to say this, but you keep your

  81. head in all situations endure hardship. Sorry, Michael, that's me.

  82. I pressed it already. But you keep your head in

  83. all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist.

  84. This is instructions from Paul to Timothy. Discharge the duties

  85. of your ministry. I don't know what your ministry is,

  86. but whatever it is, do it with passion. Do it

  87. a little more. You know you will feel more satisfied

  88. if you step into the clothes that you're meant to

  89. be wearing. If you're a evangelist, talk to someone about Jesus.

  90. If you're someone who serves, serves someone different. If you're

  91. someone who's been called to make finance for the kingdom,

  92. keep on making some finance and keep on giving it away.

  93. Do you know what My definition of a millionaire is

  94. not someone who's earned a million, but someone who's given

  95. away a million, given away a million. So keep our

  96. heads in all situations, but do the duties that were

  97. charged to do so. Whatever the gift is that you have,

  98. use it. It will go rusty, it'll get dusty, it'll

  99. stay in a draw. So let me talk as I've

  100. talked a little bit about money there, let me just

  101. jump to a Oh I can't see some of my slides.

  102. What's happened? Okay, thank you, dere If you didn't hear

  103. that coming from the front. Turn it off and on again?

  104. Was the encouragement there the budget one. So as we

  105. step into twenty two five, one of the things that

  106. I want to do is just to encourage us that,

  107. you know, God has been gracious. We'd moved to Strode

  108. three months ago. We've had some teething difficulties. We having

  109. teething challenges and we've had to press in, but we've grown.

  110. Last week, unintentionally, we ended up being back at Virginia Lodge.

  111. A miscommunication. The college hadn't expected us, so we ended

  112. up back at Virginia Lodge. Do you know what if

  113. you'd all been there as well, and there were visitors

  114. last week, even though it's kind of still school holidays,

  115. there were visitors last week. We would not have fitted

  116. in last week if you'd have all turned up. And

  117. so that's why we had to move. And next week

  118. we will put more chairs out. Next week, We've got

  119. a fantastic worship leader called Wally Adanuga. Wally Adanuka is

  120. a good friend of mine. He's a better friend of

  121. scholot O Shinoiki, who some of you know, and I've

  122. preached with Wally Wally's a worship leader. He is a

  123. fantastic worship leader. It's going to come on lead worship

  124. and preach. If just just look up Wally Adanuga and

  125. you will find him that there are literally hundreds of

  126. songs that he's written. He's on the Hosannah label if

  127. you like Hosannah. But he's going to becoming a leading

  128. worship We will put as many chairs out as we

  129. can get into the room safely to be honest, because

  130. there will be visitors, I'm sure. And that's just an

  131. example of as we step into twenty twenty five, we're

  132. going to do some new things. We're going to start

  133. doing some new things. We're going to start equipping people

  134. in teams to do stuff. We're going to start pressing

  135. into being the church that God's called us to be.

  136. But that requires a little bit of finance. So I'll

  137. just share with you last back end of last year,

  138. roughly Robs our treasurer. Judy is our bookkeeper. We roughly

  139. turned over in the calendar year just under forty five

  140. thousand pounds. I'm believing that we need to be setting

  141. a budget for about sixty five thousand pounds for this

  142. calendar year. That's a stretch. That's a faith thing. But

  143. you know what, if we fill all these seats, we

  144. will have to do other things. We will need an

  145. Alpha course or something like that, a new Believer's course.

  146. You need different ways of doing food and fellowship. I

  147. know we've got a fellowship fee staff to church today,

  148. but what happens when we get to thirty five people

  149. who want to go to the fellowship feast? Ah nice

  150. problem to have. There's an example in Scripture feeding five

  151. thousand that it happened before we can do it again.

  152. Thank you Rob. Somebody else agreed with me that we

  153. can see miracles and training and equipping people. We will

  154. train and equip people. We will go away and do

  155. things together. There's a Lifelinks UK conference in April. The

  156. ladies are going away later in the year. There's a

  157. half day they're doing with val Bird from Canada in May,

  158. and the men will be going away. The men are

  159. going to go and do something social as well later

  160. in the summer. But there's a whole bunch of things

  161. that we will be doing. So you know, that's just

  162. to give you a bit of a stretch thought and

  163. some things to think about. So what do I mean

  164. by being part of our CF Well, I believe we

  165. will grow in the room, but will also grow outside

  166. the room. You know, some of our online Bible studies

  167. have people that you have never met, and I have

  168. never met physically. Zo Zoso, who's part of the Ladies Groups,

  169. who currently lives in South Africa. She's been on faithfully

  170. on our Bible study, very very regularly. They kept her

  171. and her husband and their daughter came and visited us

  172. over the summer. It's great to see them. But you know,

  173. they used to live in Scotland. Now they live in

  174. South Africa. You know, we will grow, not just in

  175. the room, we will grow as an online church. And

  176. I am fascinated by a couple of things that God

  177. lines up. So let me give you an example. Letty

  178. was down to MC the Sunday before Christmas put something

  179. we planned months ago, wasn't it? LETTI I think he

  180. was in the road for months. And we had a

  181. student who had graduated that week from Peru. From Peru,

  182. and he brought his whole family. His whole family, many

  183. of them couldn't speak English. So Letty up the front

  184. spontaneously translated into Spanish for them. How could we have

  185. planned that? We didn't, but God did. God knew And yeah,

  186. we now blog on our services. Sorry, we weekly blog

  187. in English, Spanish, Tamil, Hindu, Persian. I've forgotten one Hindi. Yeah,

  188. and here's an interesting thing. The new security guard of

  189. this building, who will be looking after us each week

  190. is for Lankan. So I'm going to send him a

  191. message just to send him the blog each week and

  192. just see whether he reads it in Tamil. You know, God,

  193. God opens doors in lots of very creative and amazing ways.

  194. So where are we going to start and what are

  195. we going to do? You want to give me the

  196. next scripture? Micah, because I can't see anything on my phone.

  197. Are you rebooting? Okay? Timothy wrote this. I have fought

  198. the fight. I have finished the race. I have kept

  199. the faith. Do you know how many people like doing exercise?

  200. A few people? Okay, I'm told you feel better at

  201. the end than you do at the beginning. Something about

  202. endorphins and all those things flying through your body and

  203. making you feel I've done it. It's good. That's why

  204. park run has grown so significantly now, because doing it

  205. together is less painful doing things together is much less painful. Church.

  206. I want to encourage us all to get into the

  207. habit of doing things together. Let me give you an example.

  208. Let's say you had it stirred in your heart to

  209. go and knock on someone's door and visit them and

  210. just pop in for a coffee. You might let them

  211. know in advance and just say, hey, I'm popping around.

  212. Why not take somebody with you and be a blessing.

  213. You could talk on the way if you're walking, you

  214. could talk in the car if you're driving. But do

  215. you know what, if we do it together, it's so so,

  216. so so so much easier. And Paul wrote this, I

  217. have finished the good fight. I have finished the race.

  218. It's good to finish. It's good to finish well as well.

  219. And why is it good to finish? As it goes

  220. on to say, now there is a store for me,

  221. the crown of righteousness, which is the Lord, the righteous Judge,

  222. which will award to me on that day, and not

  223. only me, but also to all who have longed for

  224. his appearing. If we know Christ, we're looking for his return,

  225. if we're excited about his return, then our eyes are

  226. probably ready. Are you ready for someone new to come

  227. and sit next to you, Cherry and gave us a

  228. great example to be warmer to sit next to somebody.

  229. That's true, you will get some of the radiant heat

  230. coming from their body. So why do we sit apart?

  231. It's an interesting question. Why do we always fill up

  232. the back rows of church first? It's not just church.

  233. It happens in cinemas, it happens at work, it happens

  234. in business meetings, happens all over the place. Why do

  235. we fill up the back seats first? Yep, could could

  236. be real, could be shyness, yes, absolutely, But think about

  237. the people who turn up late are always flustered because

  238. maybe they got stuck in traffic, or they got last

  239. or whatever. So if we turn up late, we want

  240. to make it feel as easy as possible. They could

  241. just slip in the back, sit down on a seat.

  242. So let me encourage you regulars. Please move forward two

  243. seats further forward than you normally sit in, just as encouragement.

  244. I'm not asking you to sit in the front road.

  245. That's what people like Cherry and Well, okay, if we've

  246. run a race and we've finished well, Sometimes we don't

  247. finish well, and I want to look at that, and

  248. I want to look at what the Bible says about that.

  249. What do we read there? We're told you were running

  250. a good race. Who cut in on you to keep

  251. you from obeying the truth? Who cut in on you?

  252. What stopped you doing what you should have done? What

  253. stopped you finishing the race? There are I think her

  254. name was Liz mccorgan. She was running a marathon in

  255. I don't know where it was. She car, I can't

  256. remember where it was, but she needed to go to

  257. the toilet rather in a hurry, so she just literally

  258. she didn't just slipped off the road, found a drain

  259. and dealt with it. Excuse the graphic story there, but

  260. do you know what? She was going to finish the race.

  261. She was going to finish the race, and she wanted

  262. to finish well. Sometimes there are things that happened that

  263. are unexpected, and because they're unexpected, we think, oh, I'm

  264. going to we give up. Sometimes that's the moment for

  265. a fresh start. It's not that we've it's not that

  266. we're restarting the race, but we are restarting in here.

  267. We're going, Okay, I want to give up, but no,

  268. I'm choosing to press in. Okay, I've had enough. No,

  269. I'm choosing to go on. Okay, I haven't got enough energy,

  270. but God's going to give me more. I haven't got

  271. enough finances in my bank to make this, but I'm

  272. believing because God said, then I'm going to press into

  273. that and I'm going to make that step. You've heard

  274. me tell stories before now, but one story that I

  275. still instinctively remember. It would be very different for me today,

  276. I imagined. But when I was a student at Warwick

  277. University of East Anglia, I used to go to different

  278. churches and I found a church to settle into and

  279. I went one Sunday morning, and as it came to

  280. the offering time, I felt the Lord say, put a

  281. good offering in today, and I thought, okay. So I

  282. put my hand in my pocket and one pocket and

  283. took out the money that I had in that pocket,

  284. and I felt the Father go mm hmm. I said,

  285. but the rest is my bus fair to get home again,

  286. and I just felt him just nudge. I'm not saying

  287. this is necessary for you. I'm just saying this is

  288. what happened for me. I emptied my pockets that day.

  289. It wasn't a large amount of money, but it was

  290. an attitude of heart. You know. My start was okay,

  291. that's my best offer. And then when he went oh,

  292. I went, okay, I can't do it with the microphone,

  293. but both hands, both hands, you know, both pockets the lot.

  294. Now you might think, okay, so cold walk home. Because

  295. it was February time, I remember, it was like it

  296. is today. And here's the thing. After church, a gentleman

  297. came up to me and said, Dave, would you like

  298. to come back to our house for lunch? So I

  299. went back to the house for lunch. Of course I did.

  300. As a student. You never say no to free lunch,

  301. do you. So I went back to the house for lunch.

  302. Do you know what they said, at the end of lunch,

  303. can we take you home? Yes? I didn't have to

  304. walk home. Do you know what I really do wonder?

  305. I don't know, but I really do wonder whether if

  306. I hadn't have emptied my pockets, whether he would have

  307. asked me back for lunch. I don't know. I don't

  308. know whether God's like that, But all I'm saying is

  309. I just know that I gave all that I had

  310. in that moment, and it was a fresh start. He

  311. started in my head. It started in my head. Well

  312. that's all I can give because of A B and C,

  313. because of the bus fair And then when I went, okay, yeah,

  314. but I can walk, so the whole lot went. It's

  315. just a simple thing. It's a refresh of the mind.

  316. Start now, start again, start fresh. So what kind of

  317. things cut in on you? Doubt? Doubt cuts in us.

  318. If we say we're men and women of faith, doubt

  319. will cut in on us on our regular basis. God,

  320. you know, the enemy loves to pick on us. John

  321. ten ten, I think it's in the slides. Further on,

  322. John ten ten says the enemy comes only to steal,

  323. kill and destroy. Now I love this scripture, but not

  324. because of the first part. You might you probably say, Dave,

  325. you've quoted this far too many times. But actually, if

  326. you read the second part, it says, but I have

  327. come that you might have life and have it to

  328. the full. So okay, it acknowledges the enemy and says, yes,

  329. he loves to mess our lives up. He loves to

  330. trip us up, he loves to cause us to not

  331. finish our race. But Christ has come that we might

  332. have life and have it to the full. Anybody want

  333. a full life? Oh there's some people who didn't. Okay,

  334. maybe your hands were stuck in your pocket. Have life

  335. and have it to the full. So, and I'm going

  336. to keep this. So what do I mean when I

  337. talk about calling our CF home, whether it's online or

  338. face to face. First place is you love us. You

  339. love us and you want to be with us in

  340. some way or other. Maybe you can only come once

  341. a month. You love us, but you still want to

  342. be there. Number two, you want to pray? You know,

  343. a Christian should pray. A Christian should pray because we're

  344. in touch with the most powerful being in the universe,

  345. and he wants to talk to us, and he wants

  346. us to talk to him and prayers. How we do that? Yeah?

  347. Sometimes God will speak back to you, sometimes audibly, sometimes

  348. to somebody else, sometimes with scripture, sometimes who a dream.

  349. But God will speak back to you, you know, And

  350. I honestly believe the more we talk to him, the

  351. more he'll talk to us. So keep on talking. Note

  352. some of us go, but he knows everything. Anyway, Why

  353. do I need to tell him anything? Well, he just

  354. wants us to acknowledge what's important to us. He knows everything.

  355. So what's important to you? Who is it you want

  356. to pray for today? We will bring different people and

  357. circumstances in different situations to him. So we love this place.

  358. We want to pray, We want to give financially and

  359. from time, and we want to serve. And that's true

  360. for those people online who are part of our CEF.

  361. We have people around the world now who are part

  362. of who we are as a church. And some of

  363. those people help us with stuff online. We have a

  364. guy in New York who helps us with thumbnails, just

  365. a simple thing, that's all he does, just helps us

  366. with thumbnails. For anybody doesn't know what thumbnail is, it's

  367. not my thumbnail. It's a thing on a computer, a

  368. good picture on a computer. But Tommy helps us with that,

  369. and he dials in on a regular basis. So when

  370. I talk talk about starting now, I want to s yeah,

  371. let me finish. So love, us, pray, give, serve. Those

  372. are the four things that's really how we can. And

  373. you can do that whether you're physically here, whether you're

  374. regularly here, whether you're joining us online. And so to

  375. start is to start now. And so let's go back

  376. to our scripture for the year Isaiah, chapter forty three.

  377. I think it begins at seventeen eighteen. Sorry, do not

  378. remember the past events, paying no attention to the things

  379. of old. Look, I am about to do something new

  380. even now it is coming, do you not see it? Indeed,

  381. I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers

  382. in the desert. I want to kind of draw my

  383. words to a conclusion today by just encouraging you to

  384. paint some pictures with God. So I'm going to ask

  385. us all to close our eyes. I saw people joining

  386. us online from Turkey, Norway, Egypt, Germany, South Africa, some

  387. of the countries that I saw joining us in our

  388. service this morning. And our reach is getting bigger, Church,

  389. so please get used to multinational connections. I just wanted

  390. to ask you to close your eyes and what till

  391. you imagine a barren place. If you want to make

  392. it a desert, that's fine. If you just want to

  393. make it there's nothing growing there. If you want to

  394. make it the thunder and it's very snowy, and then

  395. I want you to imagine how it could change, how

  396. it could change, what would burst forth, what will be

  397. the first plant that appears, what will be the first

  398. thing that you see, what would be the first sign

  399. of growth, What will be the green shoots that sow?

  400. Water is Landed seeds are there. Seeds are amazing things.

  401. Seeds carry the DNA of their full design, not just

  402. how they're going to start, but how they're going to finish.

  403. A defective seed will produce a defective plant. And so

  404. when we see seed in the ground, I know this

  405. to be prophetically true. There are many, many, many people

  406. listening online and those in the room who have seed,

  407. prophetic seeds that have been sown in your life that

  408. have not yet been watered. And it's not because it's

  409. about timing. It's about God's timing. There will come a

  410. time when watering will come and there will be a

  411. springing fourth and if there's a springing fourth, that will

  412. result in streams in the desert. Just want to encourage

  413. you now to take that image and think about a

  414. place in your world, a place in your situation, a

  415. place in your ministry, a place in your family where

  416. you see a little bit of desert, you look at

  417. it and go, this could do with watering, well, this

  418. could do with a clear pathway through it, paths in

  419. the wilderness. Because that's what I'm going to pray for.

  420. I'm going to pray for that right now. So you've

  421. imagined somewhere in your situation. It might be work, it

  422. might be a friend, it might be family, situation, might

  423. be your own personal life. It might be that you've

  424. done some things wrong over Christmas that you're not proud

  425. of and you don't know what to do about it.

  426. Do you know what? Return to Christ? Turn again. That's

  427. what repentance means, to turn again, to turn away from

  428. the wrongdoing and look back to Christ. God forgives us

  429. if we repent. So if we want to see fruitfulness

  430. in our lives, let's turn back to God. Let's lift

  431. our eyes up and look. Let's pray for the rain

  432. to come. Let's pray for the rain to fall, and

  433. let's look for the signs of revival. Let's look for

  434. the signs of new fruitfulness. Let's look for the new

  435. signs of a new style up. So let me pray. Actually, no,

  436. let me make it personal. I'm not going to ask

  437. you what it is. But if you have a picture

  438. in your heart right now that you're bringing before the Lord,

  439. would you stand? Would you stand? If there's a picture

  440. that you're you know it's a place of desert, there's

  441. a place of no fruitfulnesses something that you just want

  442. to bring back before the Lord and say, look at this.

  443. If there are people who just want to learn, that

  444. includes you at home as well. If you just want

  445. to stand where you are, say, Lord, I've made a

  446. bit of a mess here, I've got this wrong. I

  447. need some help. Lord, forgive me. Anybody else want to stand?

  448. And then I'm going to pray, Father, thank you that

  449. you've created us to be visual people. Father, give us

  450. fresh dreams for the days ahead. Father, I pray for

  451. those parts of our lives that are not what they

  452. should be. Father, if they're not submitted to you, then

  453. help us to turn again. Father. If we you've stepped

  454. away from the path, then Lord, let your light shine

  455. and draw us back to your path and let us

  456. get back on track. And Lord, if there's things that

  457. we can do nothing about, Lord, we want to bring

  458. it to the foot of the cross and say, have

  459. your will, have your way, do what you need to do,

  460. Lord God, to complete this. We pray in Jesus' name,

  461. And so Father, we Pray for your light to shine,

  462. your rain to come, and your spirit to be released

  463. into these circumstances and situations in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

  464. So what do I mean? Fresh start? You can sit

  465. down again. Thank you everybody who stood, and for those

  466. who stood at home you can sit down as well.

  467. So fresh start
