  1. Well, good morning.

  2. It's good to see if you have your Bible's termed

  3. with me the Acts, chapter sixteen, verse sixteen.

  4. This morning.

  5. The title of my sermons the Tensions for Men, in

  6. Tensions for Men. Over the fact past few months, there's

  7. been a lot of tension in the news about the

  8. Menendez brothers. I don't know if you are familiar with them,

  9. but the Menindez brothers are two brothers, Joseph and Eric Menendez.

  10. In nineteen eighty nine, they killed their father and mother

  11. in their Beverly Hills home, and so they have been.

  12. In prison for the last few years.

  13. And there's been a lot of information and some different

  14. documentaries on them over the last few months. As there's

  15. a lot of kind of a lot of stuff talking

  16. about the Menindez brothers. And just this week the DA

  17. in Los Angeles has came out and said that he

  18. was announced, if you will, announced his recommendation that these

  19. two others be resentenced from their life in sentencing that

  20. was given to them in nineteen eighty nine. And so

  21. there's a lot of information, you know, as you think

  22. about this, and the big thing for the DA in.

  23. LA is the intent.

  24. What was the intent on of these two brothers of

  25. why did they kill their father and mother? Was their

  26. intent the intent to kill their mom and dad? Was

  27. it attent to kill? Was it just malice that did

  28. just hated their parents? Or was their intent as a

  29. result of self defense from abuse? And so that's a

  30. key question for this case is what is the intent?

  31. You see their efforts for whatever it may be, the

  32. Menendez brothers had some type of intentions and it's important

  33. for the DA and the attorneys to determine what is

  34. that intent? Can I tell you this morning, as we

  35. look at man's attentions for a man, that just as

  36. these Menindez brothers had intentions, so does Satan have intentions

  37. for you? Did you know that today we're going to

  38. look at Jesus's intentions and Satan's intentions. Do you know

  39. the enemy has intentions for you? He has plans for you,

  40. he has desires for you, He has things that he

  41. desires for you. Can I tell you Scripture says and

  42. only does Satan has intentions for you? And today I

  43. want to examine what Satan's intentions are for you. But

  44. it's important to understand that Jesus has intentions for you

  45. and We understand what is Satan's attentions for us, but

  46. what does Jesus desire for us? Scripture says in John

  47. ten Ten's a very popular verse, the thief comes only

  48. to still kill and destroy. You know that Satan's intentions

  49. for you. Satan desires to still kill and destroy. That's

  50. what he desires for every individual that walks on the

  51. face of this earth. He desires to steal, kill, and destroy,

  52. says and Peter the Apostle says in one Peter five eight,

  53. be sober minded, be watchful, watchful your adversary. The devil

  54. prows around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

  55. Satan seeks is still killing, destroy, and he's actively raging

  56. like a lying seeking to devour anyone in his path.

  57. That's Satan's intentions.

  58. But the good news of today there is not only

  59. Satan has intentions for you, but so does Jesus has

  60. intentions for you. And John ten Ten says that the

  61. thief comes is still killing, destroyed. But I came that

  62. they may have life and have it abundantly. Jesus has

  63. a plan and he desires to give you life, and

  64. he desires to give it to you abundantly just as

  65. important to examine the intentions of these Menendez brothers, it's

  66. important for us to examine Satan's attentions, for us to

  67. be aware of what is his desire first, what is

  68. his plans for us?

  69. And it's also.

  70. Important for us exam is what Jesus desires for us,

  71. what's his intentions for us? As we come to Act

  72. chapter sixteen, we've been looking at Paul's second missionary journey,

  73. and then chapter sixteen we.

  74. Saw last week.

  75. Beginning last week, Luke shows us three individual conversion stories.

  76. Last week we saw this religious woman who were seeking God,

  77. who longed to know more about God, and she was

  78. very wealthy.

  79. She owned her own business and was a very wealthy trade.

  80. Of textiles of purple cloth. And we see her conversion

  81. last week. Her name was Lydia. This morning we see

  82. the second of Luke's conversion stories, and this is someone

  83. on the opposite spectrum, the opposite social order or the

  84. opposite of religious affections. This woman is a slave and

  85. she's on the lower of all classes, and Scripture says

  86. she's demon possessed. And this morning we see Satan's desire

  87. for her. Satan's intentions for her. And today we see

  88. Jesus intentions for this lowly abused, demon possessed girl. And

  89. this morning, as we examine the enemies, Satan's attentions for her,

  90. Satan's attentions for Paul and his command companions. Finally, we'll

  91. finish today by looking at Jesus' attentions. Let's stand together

  92. and let's look at attentions for men Jesus versus the enemy.

  93. The Bible says in Act sixteen, And as we were

  94. going to the place of prayer, we were met by

  95. a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and

  96. brought her owners much gain by fortune telling. And she

  97. followed Paul and us crying out. And these men are

  98. servant of the Most High God, who proclaimed to you

  99. the way of salvation. And this she kept doing for

  100. many days. Paul, having been greatly annoyed, turned and said

  101. to the spirit, I command you, in the name of

  102. Jesus Christ, to come out of her.

  103. And it came out of her that very hour.

  104. But when her owners thought that their hope was gained

  105. was gone, they seized Paul and Silas dragged them into

  106. the marketplace before the rulers. And when they had brought

  107. them to the measure states. They said, these men are Jews.

  108. They're disturbing our city that advocate customs that are not

  109. lawful for us as Romans to accept or to practice.

  110. The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore

  111. the garments off of them and gave orders to beat

  112. them with rods, And when they inflicted many blows upon them,

  113. they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep

  114. them safely. And having received this order, he put them

  115. in the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

  116. Let's pray together, Father, we thank you, Lord for this morning,

  117. for bringing us in this place to worship you, Lord,

  118. to hear your truth. And today Lord, as we looked Lord,

  119. your word, your truth. Lord, I pray that day we

  120. would hear Lord your word. Lord, that you know the

  121. things that I've prepared, You know the things that you've

  122. brought to my mind.

  123. Lord. You know, Lord, how you've led today.

  124. I pray Lord that the words in my mouth would

  125. be pleasing Lord to you, and Lord, that Lord you'd

  126. lead me to rightly divide your word. And Lord, I

  127. pray that we as as we come together, Lord, that

  128. people would hear not my voice today, But Father, they

  129. would hear your voice.

  130. They would hear the calling of your.

  131. Holy Spirit, just as you called out that girl that

  132. day in Philippi, may you call out to us today. Lord. Lord,

  133. We thank you Lord that Satan does have plans for us.

  134. But God, so do you have great plans for us,

  135. plans to give us life and give it abundantly. Today, Lord,

  136. I pray we would find the hope that we have

  137. in you, Jesus. So lead us Lord the truth. Lord,

  138. help us have ears to hear and heart to obey. Today, Lord,

  139. we love you. We thank you Lord for this morning

  140. you name. We pray, Amen, you may be seated. So

  141. this morning we'll start off by looking at the enemy's intentions.

  142. The ienminy in the enemy's intention. First, the enemy seeks

  143. to bind. The enemy seeks to bind. What was Satan's intentions?

  144. What was the enemy?

  145. Here?

  146. Is is Satan? What was his intentions? His intentions for

  147. this slave girl was to bind her. Scripture says, if

  148. you look at verse sixteen this passage, and as we're

  149. going to the place of prayer, we were met by

  150. slave girl who had the spirit of divination, who brought

  151. her owners much.

  152. Gain by fortune telling.

  153. The scripture tells us that this young slave girl had

  154. a spirit a divination, that understanding in the Greek was

  155. understanding that at this time there was an understanding that

  156. Apollo was the god that they worshiped, and there in

  157. Delphi was where he lived, and that was kind of

  158. the center Delphi.

  159. Greek Greece.

  160. And there in that temple there was the belief that

  161. that temple was possessed, and it was guarded by a snake,

  162. and that snake. Mythology said that Apollos slayed that serpent,

  163. and as he slayed that serpent, the spirit of that

  164. serpent possess the priestess in the temple of Apollo. And

  165. therefore that possession of that spirit among these priests would

  166. overpower them, it would direct them, and it would lead

  167. them to fortune tell.

  168. We would also use another term in.

  169. Scripture that we see called soothsaying, that is the ability

  170. to fortune tell. The scripture says here, this girl has

  171. that possession, she had that spirit of divination. That's the

  172. same word for Pathenaea, which was the name of the

  173. snake or the spirit that Apollos supposedly slays. It's understand

  174. this woman had that demon spirit. Scripture would even drop down.

  175. If you look at verse eighteen, Paul cast out this demon.

  176. Of verse eighteen, it says, I command you, in the

  177. name of Jesus Christ, to come out of her, and

  178. it came out of her that very hour, says understood,

  179. this young girl here was under the power.

  180. Of an influence.

  181. The term pathenaeas also was used at the time for

  182. a vanquilitus. And what is the vanquilitus? This is someone

  183. who has a puppet ride and they speak and it

  184. is they're speaking through a puppet, right, And the idea

  185. is there's one individual, but they're speaking through another.

  186. That's the imagery. Here.

  187. Here is a woman and she's demon possessed, and the

  188. demon withinside of her is speaking through her. She is

  189. the instrument that he is speaking through. Do you see

  190. that The scripture says, this woman was under this binding

  191. of this holy spirit. She was not able to control herself,

  192. she was able to control her speech, she was not

  193. able to control her actions because she was bound by

  194. a demon. And Satan, listen to me, do we see

  195. in this scripture what is his intentions? His intentions is

  196. to keep her bound, to keep her under his control

  197. to keep her where. He is controlling her speech, he

  198. is controlling her actions. That is Satan's intentions.

  199. And for this.

  200. Young slave girl, can I tell you today the enemy

  201. scripture says in John ten seeks to kill.

  202. Still and destroy.

  203. He stole this young girl's identity, He stole her voice,

  204. he stole her action, He stole her life by binding

  205. her to something and binding her to something. Here was

  206. a demon, a demon possession. And can I tell you

  207. today Satan still seeks to bind individuals.

  208. Do you believe that he does?

  209. All over our world? Satan still seeks to bind individuals.

  210. He still seeks to control them, control their speech, control

  211. their actions. And we see not demon possessions so much

  212. in America, but I have seen it overseas and on

  213. mission trips. I've seen that happen when many people got

  214. involved in voodoo and witchcraft. We've seen some there, but

  215. we don't see that as much here in America. But

  216. it doesn't mean that Satan is not actively seeking to

  217. bind something, to bind individuals. One of the greatest ways

  218. we see Satan seeking to bind individuals today is through addictions.

  219. Can I tell you that addictions are rampant in our

  220. world today. There's a book that was written in the

  221. counseling book. It's called Substance Abuse by Adolets and Brains.

  222. According to Joseph Calfeouno Junior in two thousand and two,

  223. and in that book he says that one of the

  224. greatest addictions that's plaguing our nation today is underage drinking.

  225. Do you know forty percent of underage drinking is happening

  226. in our high schools and in our colleges. It says

  227. across campuses of college campuses America, alcohol is the number

  228. one substance abuse that's implicated and as a result of

  229. the drug abuse of alcohol, it's the number one issue

  230. that leads to date rape, sexual harassment, racial disturbance, dropouts,

  231. overdose deaths from alcohol, poison, and suicides. See the enemy

  232. seeks to even as far as high school students and

  233. college students at a very young age, seeks to bind

  234. young people in an addiction of alcohol. Alcohols the number

  235. one you say, pastor, why are you talking about alcohol?

  236. What's caused? Alcohols? Number one in our world?

  237. Number one in America that Satan is actively trying to use.

  238. It's also among teen deaths alcohol is the leading factor

  239. that leads to deaths by accidents, homicides, and suicides. We

  240. see in this we understand teen drink king is the

  241. number one source that leads teams.

  242. To adult alcoholism.

  243. Starts as teenagers and leads to adults. We see today

  244. that this is happening not only with among our teams.

  245. We've seen this happening in our adults. We see it's statistically,

  246. it tells us that a teen is gets addicted to

  247. alcohol at a very young age. It just leads to

  248. other substance of use. Twenty two percent of meals and

  249. seventy two percent of females today are using illegal or

  250. misused prescription drugs within the last year. Drug use is

  251. the highest amongst persons between eighteen and twenty five percent

  252. twenty five age years old, compared to other age groups.

  253. Forty seven percent of young people today will use an

  254. illegal drug by the time they graduate from high school,

  255. and other users within the last thirty days. You see

  256. Satan ceaks to bind and whether that's a drug addiction

  257. or whether it's alcohol addiction or leading to some other addiction.

  258. Satan is behind this evil, evil attack.

  259. Upon people in our world today.

  260. I imagine in the room this size and watching online.

  261. There's not one person in this room has not been

  262. impacted by a loved one or family member or someone

  263. you know that.

  264. Has an addiction.

  265. You've seen it destroy lives of people in your family.

  266. You've seen it destroy loved ones. You see Satan. Satan

  267. seeks to bind. He seeks to bind us through addictions.

  268. It seeks to control us, control individuals, control their speech,

  269. control their actions. And that is the heart of addictions,

  270. isn't it takes over their actions, It takes over their life,

  271. It takes over every.

  272. Moment of their day.

  273. Is when will I get the next high? And what

  274. must I do to get that? Satan seeks to bind.

  275. He seeks to bind individuals. Today, Satan only the enemy

  276. seeks to bind.

  277. But secondly, the enemy seeks to abuse.

  278. Scripture tells us that this lady and those who were

  279. understood historically at this time to be bound by this

  280. spirit of divination. Scripture says that we were met by

  281. a slave girl who had a spirit of divination, who

  282. brought our owners much gained by fortune telling. We understand

  283. a few things about this girl. Is one that she

  284. had the spirit as we saw she was bound by

  285. that spirit. But second we see that she's a slave.

  286. Scripture says she had an owner.

  287. She had on earth.

  288. Scripture said plural and their owners use her power and

  289. her ability to bring financial gain for them.

  290. We know historic history would tell us.

  291. Historical accounts would say ladies with these power powers were young,

  292. beautiful girls. Sometimes they were older witches. We understood that

  293. they would be sold into slavery and they would make

  294. a lot of money for their owners by fortune telling.

  295. Fortune telling at the time or magical oracles or used

  296. in several ways. It was used to protect a person

  297. from misfortune. It was used to attack another person or

  298. even bring curses to another person. It was used to

  299. win people over. It also used to give oracles or

  300. utterances which were designed. Someone would go to a lady

  301. like this and they would get her to give an oracle,

  302. and it was design to get to please a god,

  303. to Apollos or another god, that God might bring blessing

  304. upon an individual. There was a lot of money into

  305. this business at the time. In Greco Roman world, commanders

  306. they wouldn't go to war without meeting with a fortune tailer.

  307. They would be consulted.

  308. She would be consulted for if someone was starting a business,

  309. if they wanted prosperity in their business or prosperity in

  310. their home, she would be consulted. But in verse nineteen,

  311. look what the passage says, when that ability was taken

  312. from her, when that demon would cast out of her,

  313. Verse nineteen says, but when her owners saw that their

  314. hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and silas

  315. these owners use this possession and this binding of Satan

  316. and this woman to abuse this woman for their financial gain.

  317. And when Paul and Sila cast out that demon, and

  318. she had no longer had any power, or she was

  319. no longer bound, Scripture says.

  320. They don't praise the Lord, do they.

  321. They don't rejoice that this girl has been set free.

  322. They don't rejoice that she has her voice again. They

  323. don't rejoice that she has power again. They don't celebrate

  324. that now she is not under control of someone else.

  325. They are destroyed, they're disturbed, they're upset, they're angry. Why

  326. because they have now lost their power to abuse her

  327. for their financial gain. And what do we call that?

  328. We call that abuse? Satan seeks to bind, but Satan

  329. seeks to abuse, Satan seeks to use people in power

  330. to abuse their power to hurt other individuals. Diane Lamberg

  331. writes a great book called Suffering in the Heart of God,

  332. and it talks She's a PTSD counselor. She's a trauma counselor,

  333. one of the best in North America. And she writes

  334. she thirty years ago, she was fifty years old when

  335. she started being a psychiatrist and specializing in trauma. She's

  336. traveled all over the world, and this is what she said.

  337. Thirty years ago.

  338. When I began speaking internationally, learned that nations followed abusive

  339. patterns of families and churches, nations oppressed in silence and abuse.

  340. In Burma, I found an entire nation crippled by abusive power.

  341. In Wawanda, I first hand saw the first of the

  342. effects of genocide perpetrated by the neighbors and fellow church members.

  343. In Brazil, I was told that incest is a part

  344. of culture. In Lebanon, I stood and looked over the

  345. valley full of fragile structure, filled with Seria refugees who

  346. had lost everything in are including proof of who they are.

  347. You see, there are people in power and nations all

  348. across our world today that are abusing their power to hurt,

  349. inflict punishment, and abuses to people in their very country.

  350. Just a few weeks ago, we met an individual while

  351. we were on our mission team and he was from Nigeria.

  352. And there is a group in Nigeria today that are

  353. basically like a mafia gang and they're coming upon villages

  354. and requiring the people in the village who give them

  355. portions of their farm and giving them portions of money,

  356. and if they do not give them, they will kill

  357. the entire village. And that is happening today. You won't

  358. find it on the news, but it is happening today.

  359. Hundreds of thousands of people have died in Nigeria over

  360. the abuse of a rogue power.

  361. It's happening.

  362. Do you know it's not happening with people in power

  363. like these men who were in power of this girl

  364. and Satan seeks to buying, but Satan seeks to abuse.

  365. Do you know every nine seconds someone in a United

  366. States a woman.

  367. Is assaulted and is abused.

  368. Just recently, I heard a story of a young girl

  369. that was in the Triangle area who's been sex trafficked

  370. by her father. He was called and put in prison.

  371. The family of his I think his family. We're in

  372. a local church, was teaching Sunday school and the found

  373. of course their son or their family member gotten put

  374. in prison. And this was part of this young girl

  375. was part of their family. And they are so destroyed

  376. by the impact of that abuse they have left the

  377. church and have never gone back again. You see, Satan

  378. seeks to bind, but seek. Satan seeks to abuse individuals.

  379. He seeks to use power of people individual and he

  380. seeks to abuse others and bring that to their downfall.

  381. That they are victims.

  382. That is happening in our world, and Satan is behind

  383. it all. We must be We must open our eyes

  384. and see these things are the Scripture says, we don't

  385. wrestle against flesh and blood, but we wrestle against the

  386. principalities of this world.

  387. Today.

  388. Satan is still active as he was then, and we

  389. must examine it and know it and know that's his intentions.

  390. Satan seeks to buying. Satan seeks to abuse. Satan seeks

  391. to deceive. Scripture says, and this passage of scripture she

  392. brought her owners much gain by fortune telling. In verse

  393. seventeen she Scripture says, she followed Paul and us and

  394. crying out, these men are servant the Most High God,

  395. who proclaimed to you the.

  396. Way of salvation.

  397. And she kept doing this for many days. Paul, having

  398. become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I

  399. command you the name of Jesus Christ to come out

  400. of her. And it came out of her that very

  401. our Scripture says, Paul and silasts are going in the city,

  402. and right after they lead Lydia to the Lord, they

  403. began going to the city and they're sharing and scripture says,

  404. day after day, this demon possessed girl, slave girl follows them.

  405. She everywhere they go, she goes, and scripture says, as

  406. she follows them, she proclaims. Now, look what scripture says

  407. that she proclaims, these men are serving them the Most

  408. High God who proclaimed to you the way of salvation.

  409. Now you think, man, she's doing great. She's just endorsing them.

  410. She's saying that they are from God. And you think

  411. that's a really good thing.

  412. But you have to understand. Everyone in the city knew

  413. what she was. A fortune teller.

  414. People had gone to her and asked that she would

  415. beckon God on their behalf, and they would pay her

  416. to get favor from one of the many gods that

  417. they had worshiped. This is a potheistic society that they

  418. were in. So she had given and she had done

  419. oracles from many different gods. And so now it's Paul

  420. and Soilus is coming in. This demon is following them,

  421. and they're proclaiming that they are from the most High God.

  422. But the term god here would be the same termed

  423. it would be used at the time for Zeus, for Apollo,

  424. and the other savior here in this term, the emperor

  425. from Rome would be called a savior. What she's doing,

  426. she is proclaiming, yes, Paul and Silas, they are telling

  427. you about a god, and that's just the god like Zeus.

  428. That's just like Apoulus. He's not like any other god.

  429. He's just like one of the other gods. And yes,

  430. they're saying that he can save you, but so will.

  431. He's the same savior, just like our emperor's a savior.

  432. So what she is doing in this passage of scripture,

  433. Satan is using her to deceive, to say the God

  434. of Paul, the god of these missionaries, is the same

  435. god as Zeus and all the others, and just says

  436. they can save you.

  437. Their God can save you, just like Zeus.

  438. You just worship, you worship Zeus, you worship these and yeah,

  439. you can worship him. To Scripture says, I think it's

  440. very important here as you know this passive scripture. She

  441. didn't do this once, did she? She did it every day?

  442. And what was she trying to do? Listen to this

  443. is very important. She was not telling the people of

  444. Philippi not to worship something.

  445. Did they did? She?

  446. No, she wants them to worship something, but she wants

  447. them to worship the wrong thing, the wrong God, not

  448. the right God.

  449. Satan seeks to deceive.

  450. He seeks to tell people, yes, you can worship God,

  451. but you can just you just don't need to worship.

  452. The main God.

  453. You need to worship one of the many gods of.

  454. The world Satan wants you to worship. Don't be dissillusion.

  455. He just wants you to worship something else besides the

  456. true God. And that's what she's leading them to do.

  457. She is actively seeking to deceive. Satan enemy wants to bind,

  458. he wants to abuse, and he wants to deceive you.

  459. Yeah, he wants you to worship, but he wants you

  460. to worship the wrong thing.

  461. You know, Lady God, God is one of the popular

  462. artists of our world today. In New York Magazine, she

  463. wrote an article and talking about what she does as

  464. an artist, as a musical artist, and she says these words,

  465. I have discovered that in art and as in music,

  466. there's a lot of truth. Then there is a lie.

  467. She said.

  468. The artist is essentially creating a work to make a

  469. lie a truth, but then he slides the lie in

  470. amongst all the other truths. That tiny little lie is

  471. the moment, the moment I live for, and the moment

  472. that the audience falls in love. Lady God, God is

  473. showing that the world and many in that world are

  474. seeking just to deceive, and just as she's seeking to deceive,

  475. and she's living for that moment, Satan is living for

  476. the moment that he deceives you to believe a lie

  477. and worship a lie. Can I tell you that Satan, teenager,

  478. Satan wants you to worship. He wants you to deceive,

  479. You to worship that boy or that girl that you think,

  480. if I've just been in a relationship with him, that

  481. will be it. He wants you to worship your sport.

  482. He wants you to worship your school. He wants you

  483. to find your identity in those things. Adults, he wants

  484. you to worship your money. He wants you to worship

  485. your hobbies. He wants you to worship your drugs, or

  486. whatever it may be. He wants you to worship something else,

  487. thinking that you'll find satisfaction in that thing. Satan listen

  488. longs to bind. He launched abuse, and he desires, he

  489. seeks to deceive. Lastly, when you see Satan longs to destroy,

  490. Scripture says in verse eighteen, Paul and silas that she

  491. does this day after day. Scripture says, you look back

  492. with me. In verse eighteen. She kept doing this for

  493. many days, and Paul hav Him become greatly annoyed, turned

  494. and said to the spirit, I command you, in the

  495. name of Jesus Christ, to come out of her. And

  496. it came out of her that very hour. After a

  497. few days, Paul just had enough. I'm tired of this

  498. woman trying to see people away from the truth of

  499. the Gospel. And he turns to her and he cast

  500. out the demons, very similar to the same account of

  501. Jesus when he comes upon the mountain and the man

  502. had many demons named Legion, and Jesus cast out that

  503. man and set him free. In the same story in

  504. Jesus when he cast out the women, you remember he

  505. cast out the demons into the pigs, right, and the

  506. pigs went off.

  507. The mountain and died.

  508. And you remember all the people in the village came

  509. and saw that, and they go back in the village,

  510. and they come back and they run Jesus off. Why

  511. are they mad? They're mad because they lost the money.

  512. They're not mad. They're not praising that the man had

  513. been delivered. They're upset that they lost all the money

  514. from the pigs. Here in this passive scripture, it is

  515. the same scenario. These owners who had this young girl

  516. are not celebrating. They are upset and they're angry that

  517. they have lost financially as a result of this. In

  518. verse nineteen that says the owners look with me. But

  519. when the owners saw that their hope of game was gone,

  520. they seized Paul and silence. They dragged them into the

  521. marketplace before the rulers. And when they brought them to

  522. the magistrates, look at what happens here in verse twenty

  523. they said, these men are Jews, and they are disturbing

  524. our city. And look at verse twenty one. It's very important,

  525. and they're advocating customs that are not lawful for us

  526. as Romans to accept or practice. Verse twenty two says

  527. the crowds joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore

  528. off their gown, their garments off of them, and gave

  529. orders to beat them with rods. These owners, once they

  530. find out that this the girl that they had been

  531. making all this money for us, has now been set free,

  532. they take Paul and Silace and the companions. They'd take

  533. them before the magists was the local ruler at the time,

  534. and they said, these men are they're preaching, they're advocate

  535. hating something that's different than we've ever heard before, and

  536. this would be a lawful for us if we follow

  537. their worship. When we follow worshiping only their God and

  538. not the God of many gods, that means we'll have

  539. to turn away from worshiping Rome. We'll have to turn

  540. away from worshiping the Emperor. And they're leading us to

  541. worship only the Lord only God, and this.

  542. Must be stopped.

  543. Scripture says, they get so enraged. It's unless a riot

  544. that breaks out. In verse twenty that scripture says, in

  545. verse twenty two, the crowd joined in attacking them. The

  546. magistrates tore their clothes off of them. Scripture says, after

  547. they this riot broke out, and they tore all the

  548. clothes off of poll silas they start.

  549. Beating with rods.

  550. Listen, these men wont to destroy the Gospel. They want

  551. to stop it. They want it to end. They don't

  552. want this to go any further. They do not want

  553. people to be delivered from bondage. They don't want people

  554. to be delivered from abuses. They don't want people to

  555. hear the good News of Jesus. And as a result,

  556. they seek to destroy the messengers of the Gospel. Can

  557. I tell you today, listen, Satan seeks to destroy you.

  558. Satan seeks to abuse, Satan seeks to bind. Satan seeks

  559. to stop the advancement of the Gospel. Today, we live

  560. in a world today like no other time before that

  561. Satan is actively trying to stop the good News of Jesus.

  562. There's this great book. I don't know if you've ever

  563. read it. I encourage you to read it sometime.

  564. It will open your eyes to what's happened in our

  565. world over the last many, many years. But in February

  566. twenty ninth to nineteen forty eight, a pastor named Richard

  567. Warbrand was arrested by secret police.

  568. He was in Romania as a pastor there. He was

  569. arrested for.

  570. Christian worship and witnessing. He was put in prison under

  571. the communist Romanian government at the time, and he was

  572. sent to prison for fourteen years. And fourteen years he

  573. was tortured him and his wife. He writes a book

  574. called Torture for Christ and in that book he explains

  575. the different things he endured. He tells in one of

  576. my favorite stories of the book is he tells about

  577. being beaten in order to preach. He said this, he said,

  578. it was strictly forbidden to preach to other prisoners. It

  579. was understood that whoever was caught doing this received severe beating.

  580. A number of.

  581. Decided we would pay the price for the privilege of preaching,

  582. so we accepted their terms.

  583. It was a deal.

  584. We would preach and they would beat us. We were

  585. happy preaching and they were happy beating us. So everyone

  586. was happening, he said. The following scene happened more times

  587. than I can remember. A brother was preaching to the

  588. other prisoners when guards was suddenly burst in and surprising

  589. them through halfway through a phrase. They would haul down

  590. that individual, that preacher, to one of what they called

  591. their beating rooms, and after what seemed like an endless beating,

  592. they would bring him back and throwing back into the cell,

  593. bloody and bruce on the prison floor, he would slowly

  594. pick up his battered body, perfectly straightened up himself his clothing,

  595. and he would say, my brothers, where did I leave

  596. off when I was interrupted? And he would continue to preach.

  597. Can I tell you today, just in Acts sixteen, Satan

  598. and the enemy saw to stop the preaching of the Gospel,

  599. to destroy it. It was happening in the nineteens, and today,

  600. more than ever, we're seeing freedom of speech and religious

  601. liberty coming under attack. Satan seeks to destroy. But as

  602. we finish today, you know Satan has intentions, but so

  603. desire Jesus. And what you see last week as we finish,

  604. what is Jesus's attentions? Scripture says, look at with me

  605. in verse eighteen, the Bible says, now this kept going

  606. doing this for many days. Paul, having been greatlynnoyed, he

  607. said to He didn't say to the woman. He said

  608. to the spirit that was within the woman. He says,

  609. I command you, listen to this in the name of

  610. Jesus Christ, to once come out of her. And it

  611. came out of her at that very hour. Paul was

  612. very careful that day when he looked to that woman

  613. who was bound, who was abused, who had been sought

  614. to be destroyed, he called out, not in the name

  615. of Paul, and name one of the apostles he knew,

  616. listen to me today. He knew there was power in

  617. Jesus's name, and so he declared, by the power of Jesus, come.

  618. Out of her.

  619. And Scripture says that Jesus delivered her. What is Jesus's

  620. intentions for you? Listen to me today. Jesus's attentions for.

  621. You is to deliver you. It's without a doubt.

  622. In the room this size and people watching online, there's

  623. many of you have been impacted by the binding of satan,

  624. to addictions, or whatever it may be that you have

  625. been bound in your life. Listen to me today, Jesus

  626. seeks to deliver you. Can I tell you today that

  627. many be in this room or in sound when the

  628. six women across our world have been abused? Can I

  629. tell you that Jesus seeks to deliver? Can I tell

  630. you today there's many of you been impacted by the

  631. deception of the enemy. You've believed many lies that you

  632. could find hope, happiness and satisfaction.

  633. Is something else? Can I do today?

  634. Jesus seeks to deliver? Can I tell you many of

  635. you have been sought, been attacked by trying to live

  636. out your faith. You've been trying to be vocal, and

  637. you seem like the enemy continues to come after you.

  638. Can I tell you Jesus seeks to deliver. I remember

  639. I was at Spring Branch Baptist Church.

  640. I was a young pastor.

  641. I was Aron thirty one years old, and I was

  642. praying that God would save people in my church. One day,

  643. I'll never get this long as I live. I got

  644. a phone call. And I got a phone call by

  645. a man and he said, Pastor, can you come to

  646. my house? I never met the man in my life ever.

  647. His name was Robert Beckham. He says, Pastor can you

  648. come my house. I like to talk to you. So

  649. I went over to his house that I'd never been

  650. there before, walked into the door and there was a

  651. man sitting in the recliner and he was just crying.

  652. And I sat beside him. I said, well, mister Roberts,

  653. this the first time I met you. And I said,

  654. you know, how can I help you? He said, listen

  655. to me, he said, I need to get saved. And

  656. there by his chair, I led that man to the Lord.

  657. That man had been bound to addiction of alcohol his

  658. whole life. That day he was asking God to deliver him.

  659. And can I tell you that day God or miraculously

  660. set him free and he never touched it again to

  661. the day the Lord take him home. God delivered him

  662. from alcohol. God delivered him from a broken relationship, restored

  663. his marriage, restored his home, and he found a new

  664. relationship in Jesus Christ. Why because it wasn't the power

  665. of Jonathan that day. Listen, it was the power of

  666. Jesus that day that delivered a man who was bound,

  667. delivered a man who'd been abused by alcohol and the addictions.

  668. He delivered a man who had been deceived and found

  669. that he thought he could find hope in something else

  670. beside Jesus, and that man became a witness for Jesus Christ.

  671. Jesus has the power to deliver. I love what Jesus says.

  672. You remember jesus first sermon. Jesus goes into Syna God.

  673. He just you know, is starting his mission, and he

  674. goes into syn of God and Copronium. They reach out

  675. that day as common practice and sin of gods, they

  676. would ring out a scroll and they would read from

  677. one of the scrolls. And that day they just by

  678. chance God a scroll and they asked Jesus to read it.

  679. And you know what Jesus read that day.

  680. It says in Luke four seventeen, and the scroll the

  681. Prophet's Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll

  682. and he found a place where it was written. The

  683. spirit of the Lord is upon me because he appointed

  684. me to proclaim the good news the poor.

  685. He has sent me to proclaim.

  686. Liberty to the captives, to recover the sight of the blind,

  687. to set liberty to those who are pressed, to proclaim

  688. the year of the Lord's favor. Can I tell you

  689. the first sermon of Jesus is Jesus saying, listen, I

  690. come to deliver. I come to set free the captives.

  691. I've come to heal the brokenhearted. I come to proclaim

  692. the Lord Luke nineteen. Jesus says, the son of Man

  693. came to seek and to save, that.

  694. Save the loss.

  695. Can I tell you today, just remind you today. Satan

  696. seeks to bind, He seeks to abuse, he seeks to deceive,

  697. he seeks to destroy. Jesus seeks to deliver. If you

  698. think about Jesus as I close, I'll tell you.

  699. I'm enjoying this though.

  700. I think I can just go another thirty minutes. The

  701. enemy sought to bind our Jesus that night in the

  702. gardener gets him, and he to bound his hands.

  703. They carried him to a mock trial.

  704. The enemy sought to abuse the power of the Pharisees

  705. and beat our Jesus in that that night he sought

  706. to abuse the power of pilot.

  707. As he beat him.

  708. And when the cords of the cat the whip has

  709. he beaten with the rods as they flogged him. They

  710. sought to bind our Jesus. They sought to abuse our Jesus.

  711. They sought to the enemy sought to deceive our Jesus

  712. in the wilderness. They sought to destroy our Jesus on

  713. the cross. And Hebrews listen to this. Hebrews twelve two

  714. fourteen says this, since therefore children share in flesh and blood,

  715. he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through

  716. the death he might destroy the one who has power over.

  717. Death, and that is the devil.

  718. Jesus endured the enemy's attacks of abuse, binding, of deception,

  719. and trying to destroy.

  720. Why that he might set you free from it? You know?

  721. There's the doctors at the Phoenix Arizona have found that rattlesnakes,

  722. And I asked the van if you make your way up,

  723. rattlesnakes can still strike even though they're dead.

  724. They can still strike you, They can still bite you.

  725. They can actually still kill you. Doctor says.

  726. Every year there are admitted to the hospital many patients

  727. that had been struck by a rattlesnake that they thought

  728. was dead. Snakes sometimes were shot, sometimes their heads were

  729. cut off. Yet a snake will retain its reflex action

  730. and they can still make their striking motion even up

  731. to sixty minutes after death.

  732. Listen to me today, Satan, the old Serpent was defeated

  733. at Calvary. His head was cut off, and Hebrews too

  734. tells us that our high Priest Jesus.

  735. Through his death, destroyed the enemy who has power over death.

  736. He can still strike us, and he can still wound us,

  737. but Jesus has the power to deliver us from his

  738. deadly venom. Today, will you say, Jesus, I need you

  739. to be my deliverer. I know Satan the enemy is

  740. actively pursuing me, But Lord, you've given me power to overcome,

  741. to be delivered.

  742. However that may be for you. Today, will you surrender,

  743. you call out to his name.

  744. Today he has the power to deliver.

  745. Would you stand with me?

  746. Lord, I pray today that time, Lord, we've all been bitten,

  747. we've all felt the wounds of Satan's attacks. Lord, we

  748. thank you today that you know our wounds. You know

  749. the times where we've been bitten, We've been hurt, we've

  750. been battered, we've been broken, we've been like that slave girl,

  751. felt like we're out of control, and just Lord, by

  752. the power of your name Jesus, that you set her free. Lord,

  753. I pray that'd be those today that through your power, Lord,

  754. you would deliver them from whatever Lord Satan has brought

  755. against them. So, Lord, I pray the day that they

  756. would be the hearts of people today, whether they're believers

  757. or whether they're unbelievers. I pray there'd be those who

  758. would call upon your name Jesus to day and seek,

  759. Lord you to deliver them. So, Lord, I pray for

  760. a believer here today that's been bound by something. I

  761. pray for the believer today that's been maybe impacted by abuse.

  762. I pray, Lord, for the believer today that's been deceived.

  763. Pray for the believer today that felt.

  764. Like they've been destroyed.

  765. Lord, I pray today they would be those believers who

  766. would call upon you, the Deliverer and find healing.

  767. Lord in your name.

  768. Today, Lord, I pray for the unbelievers. Lord, I pray today,

  769. just as that slave girl found you, Jesus, today, that

  770. would find you, and that you would break every chain

  771. of addiction, every chain of binding, every chain of abuse,

  772. every deception that was in their heart or in their mind. Lord,

  773. I pray or that you would set them free Today. Lord,

  774. that's what you came to do. Lord, I pray you

  775. would be at work in this place today. Lord, I pray,

  776. there's someone here that doesn't know you as Lord and Savior.

  777. Today.

  778. I pray, right now, right where they are, they would

  779. pray the myth that they're a sinner, believe that you

  780. died on the cross, and they would confess Lord, their

  781. need for you a savior today, that their need Lord,

  782. for you deliver them today. And Lord, I pray that

  783. the scripture says, if we confess with our mouths and

  784. believe in our hearts today, we will be saved. I

  785. pray there'd be those who would call out to you

  786. today for salvation. Lord, lead us in this time of invitation.

  787. We pray you name. We pray Amen.

  788. Hears pain and all and all to Him
