Well, good morning.
-
It's good to see if you have your Bible's termed
-
with me the Acts, chapter sixteen, verse sixteen.
-
This morning.
-
The title of my sermons the Tensions for Men, in
-
Tensions for Men. Over the fact past few months, there's
-
been a lot of tension in the news about the
-
Menendez brothers. I don't know if you are familiar with them,
-
but the Menindez brothers are two brothers, Joseph and Eric Menendez.
-
In nineteen eighty nine, they killed their father and mother
-
in their Beverly Hills home, and so they have been.
-
In prison for the last few years.
-
And there's been a lot of information and some different
-
documentaries on them over the last few months. As there's
-
a lot of kind of a lot of stuff talking
-
about the Menindez brothers. And just this week the DA
-
in Los Angeles has came out and said that he
-
was announced, if you will, announced his recommendation that these
-
two others be resentenced from their life in sentencing that
-
was given to them in nineteen eighty nine. And so
-
there's a lot of information, you know, as you think
-
about this, and the big thing for the DA in.
-
LA is the intent.
-
What was the intent on of these two brothers of
-
why did they kill their father and mother? Was their
-
intent the intent to kill their mom and dad? Was
-
it attent to kill? Was it just malice that did
-
just hated their parents? Or was their intent as a
-
result of self defense from abuse? And so that's a
-
key question for this case is what is the intent?
-
You see their efforts for whatever it may be, the
-
Menendez brothers had some type of intentions and it's important
-
for the DA and the attorneys to determine what is
-
that intent? Can I tell you this morning, as we
-
look at man's attentions for a man, that just as
-
these Menindez brothers had intentions, so does Satan have intentions
-
for you? Did you know that today we're going to
-
look at Jesus's intentions and Satan's intentions. Do you know
-
the enemy has intentions for you? He has plans for you,
-
he has desires for you, He has things that he
-
desires for you. Can I tell you Scripture says and
-
only does Satan has intentions for you? And today I
-
want to examine what Satan's intentions are for you. But
-
it's important to understand that Jesus has intentions for you
-
and We understand what is Satan's attentions for us, but
-
what does Jesus desire for us? Scripture says in John
-
ten Ten's a very popular verse, the thief comes only
-
to still kill and destroy. You know that Satan's intentions
-
for you. Satan desires to still kill and destroy. That's
-
what he desires for every individual that walks on the
-
face of this earth. He desires to steal, kill, and destroy,
-
says and Peter the Apostle says in one Peter five eight,
-
be sober minded, be watchful, watchful your adversary. The devil
-
prows around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
-
Satan seeks is still killing, destroy, and he's actively raging
-
like a lying seeking to devour anyone in his path.
-
That's Satan's intentions.
-
But the good news of today there is not only
-
Satan has intentions for you, but so does Jesus has
-
intentions for you. And John ten Ten says that the
-
thief comes is still killing, destroyed. But I came that
-
they may have life and have it abundantly. Jesus has
-
a plan and he desires to give you life, and
-
he desires to give it to you abundantly just as
-
important to examine the intentions of these Menendez brothers, it's
-
important for us to examine Satan's attentions, for us to
-
be aware of what is his desire first, what is
-
his plans for us?
-
And it's also.
-
Important for us exam is what Jesus desires for us,
-
what's his intentions for us? As we come to Act
-
chapter sixteen, we've been looking at Paul's second missionary journey,
-
and then chapter sixteen we.
-
Saw last week.
-
Beginning last week, Luke shows us three individual conversion stories.
-
Last week we saw this religious woman who were seeking God,
-
who longed to know more about God, and she was
-
very wealthy.
-
She owned her own business and was a very wealthy trade.
-
Of textiles of purple cloth. And we see her conversion
-
last week. Her name was Lydia. This morning we see
-
the second of Luke's conversion stories, and this is someone
-
on the opposite spectrum, the opposite social order or the
-
opposite of religious affections. This woman is a slave and
-
she's on the lower of all classes, and Scripture says
-
she's demon possessed. And this morning we see Satan's desire
-
for her. Satan's intentions for her. And today we see
-
Jesus intentions for this lowly abused, demon possessed girl. And
-
this morning, as we examine the enemies, Satan's attentions for her,
-
Satan's attentions for Paul and his command companions. Finally, we'll
-
finish today by looking at Jesus' attentions. Let's stand together
-
and let's look at attentions for men Jesus versus the enemy.
-
The Bible says in Act sixteen, And as we were
-
going to the place of prayer, we were met by
-
a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and
-
brought her owners much gain by fortune telling. And she
-
followed Paul and us crying out. And these men are
-
servant of the Most High God, who proclaimed to you
-
the way of salvation. And this she kept doing for
-
many days. Paul, having been greatly annoyed, turned and said
-
to the spirit, I command you, in the name of
-
Jesus Christ, to come out of her.
-
And it came out of her that very hour.
-
But when her owners thought that their hope was gained
-
was gone, they seized Paul and Silas dragged them into
-
the marketplace before the rulers. And when they had brought
-
them to the measure states. They said, these men are Jews.
-
They're disturbing our city that advocate customs that are not
-
lawful for us as Romans to accept or to practice.
-
The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore
-
the garments off of them and gave orders to beat
-
them with rods, And when they inflicted many blows upon them,
-
they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep
-
them safely. And having received this order, he put them
-
in the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
-
Let's pray together, Father, we thank you, Lord for this morning,
-
for bringing us in this place to worship you, Lord,
-
to hear your truth. And today Lord, as we looked Lord,
-
your word, your truth. Lord, I pray that day we
-
would hear Lord your word. Lord, that you know the
-
things that I've prepared, You know the things that you've
-
brought to my mind.
-
Lord. You know, Lord, how you've led today.
-
I pray Lord that the words in my mouth would
-
be pleasing Lord to you, and Lord, that Lord you'd
-
lead me to rightly divide your word. And Lord, I
-
pray that we as as we come together, Lord, that
-
people would hear not my voice today, But Father, they
-
would hear your voice.
-
They would hear the calling of your.
-
Holy Spirit, just as you called out that girl that
-
day in Philippi, may you call out to us today. Lord. Lord,
-
We thank you Lord that Satan does have plans for us.
-
But God, so do you have great plans for us,
-
plans to give us life and give it abundantly. Today, Lord,
-
I pray we would find the hope that we have
-
in you, Jesus. So lead us Lord the truth. Lord,
-
help us have ears to hear and heart to obey. Today, Lord,
-
we love you. We thank you Lord for this morning
-
you name. We pray, Amen, you may be seated. So
-
this morning we'll start off by looking at the enemy's intentions.
-
The ienminy in the enemy's intention. First, the enemy seeks
-
to bind. The enemy seeks to bind. What was Satan's intentions?
-
What was the enemy?
-
Here?
-
Is is Satan? What was his intentions? His intentions for
-
this slave girl was to bind her. Scripture says, if
-
you look at verse sixteen this passage, and as we're
-
going to the place of prayer, we were met by
-
slave girl who had the spirit of divination, who brought
-
her owners much.
-
Gain by fortune telling.
-
The scripture tells us that this young slave girl had
-
a spirit a divination, that understanding in the Greek was
-
understanding that at this time there was an understanding that
-
Apollo was the god that they worshiped, and there in
-
Delphi was where he lived, and that was kind of
-
the center Delphi.
-
Greek Greece.
-
And there in that temple there was the belief that
-
that temple was possessed, and it was guarded by a snake,
-
and that snake. Mythology said that Apollos slayed that serpent,
-
and as he slayed that serpent, the spirit of that
-
serpent possess the priestess in the temple of Apollo. And
-
therefore that possession of that spirit among these priests would
-
overpower them, it would direct them, and it would lead
-
them to fortune tell.
-
We would also use another term in.
-
Scripture that we see called soothsaying, that is the ability
-
to fortune tell. The scripture says here, this girl has
-
that possession, she had that spirit of divination. That's the
-
same word for Pathenaea, which was the name of the
-
snake or the spirit that Apollos supposedly slays. It's understand
-
this woman had that demon spirit. Scripture would even drop down.
-
If you look at verse eighteen, Paul cast out this demon.
-
Of verse eighteen, it says, I command you, in the
-
name of Jesus Christ, to come out of her, and
-
it came out of her that very hour, says understood,
-
this young girl here was under the power.
-
Of an influence.
-
The term pathenaeas also was used at the time for
-
a vanquilitus. And what is the vanquilitus? This is someone
-
who has a puppet ride and they speak and it
-
is they're speaking through a puppet, right, And the idea
-
is there's one individual, but they're speaking through another.
-
That's the imagery. Here.
-
Here is a woman and she's demon possessed, and the
-
demon withinside of her is speaking through her. She is
-
the instrument that he is speaking through. Do you see
-
that The scripture says, this woman was under this binding
-
of this holy spirit. She was not able to control herself,
-
she was able to control her speech, she was not
-
able to control her actions because she was bound by
-
a demon. And Satan, listen to me, do we see
-
in this scripture what is his intentions? His intentions is
-
to keep her bound, to keep her under his control
-
to keep her where. He is controlling her speech, he
-
is controlling her actions. That is Satan's intentions.
-
And for this.
-
Young slave girl, can I tell you today the enemy
-
scripture says in John ten seeks to kill.
-
Still and destroy.
-
He stole this young girl's identity, He stole her voice,
-
he stole her action, He stole her life by binding
-
her to something and binding her to something. Here was
-
a demon, a demon possession. And can I tell you
-
today Satan still seeks to bind individuals.
-
Do you believe that he does?
-
All over our world? Satan still seeks to bind individuals.
-
He still seeks to control them, control their speech, control
-
their actions. And we see not demon possessions so much
-
in America, but I have seen it overseas and on
-
mission trips. I've seen that happen when many people got
-
involved in voodoo and witchcraft. We've seen some there, but
-
we don't see that as much here in America. But
-
it doesn't mean that Satan is not actively seeking to
-
bind something, to bind individuals. One of the greatest ways
-
we see Satan seeking to bind individuals today is through addictions.
-
Can I tell you that addictions are rampant in our
-
world today. There's a book that was written in the
-
counseling book. It's called Substance Abuse by Adolets and Brains.
-
According to Joseph Calfeouno Junior in two thousand and two,
-
and in that book he says that one of the
-
greatest addictions that's plaguing our nation today is underage drinking.
-
Do you know forty percent of underage drinking is happening
-
in our high schools and in our colleges. It says
-
across campuses of college campuses America, alcohol is the number
-
one substance abuse that's implicated and as a result of
-
the drug abuse of alcohol, it's the number one issue
-
that leads to date rape, sexual harassment, racial disturbance, dropouts,
-
overdose deaths from alcohol, poison, and suicides. See the enemy
-
seeks to even as far as high school students and
-
college students at a very young age, seeks to bind
-
young people in an addiction of alcohol. Alcohols the number
-
one you say, pastor, why are you talking about alcohol?
-
What's caused? Alcohols? Number one in our world?
-
Number one in America that Satan is actively trying to use.
-
It's also among teen deaths alcohol is the leading factor
-
that leads to deaths by accidents, homicides, and suicides. We
-
see in this we understand teen drink king is the
-
number one source that leads teams.
-
To adult alcoholism.
-
Starts as teenagers and leads to adults. We see today
-
that this is happening not only with among our teams.
-
We've seen this happening in our adults. We see it's statistically,
-
it tells us that a teen is gets addicted to
-
alcohol at a very young age. It just leads to
-
other substance of use. Twenty two percent of meals and
-
seventy two percent of females today are using illegal or
-
misused prescription drugs within the last year. Drug use is
-
the highest amongst persons between eighteen and twenty five percent
-
twenty five age years old, compared to other age groups.
-
Forty seven percent of young people today will use an
-
illegal drug by the time they graduate from high school,
-
and other users within the last thirty days. You see
-
Satan ceaks to bind and whether that's a drug addiction
-
or whether it's alcohol addiction or leading to some other addiction.
-
Satan is behind this evil, evil attack.
-
Upon people in our world today.
-
I imagine in the room this size and watching online.
-
There's not one person in this room has not been
-
impacted by a loved one or family member or someone
-
you know that.
-
Has an addiction.
-
You've seen it destroy lives of people in your family.
-
You've seen it destroy loved ones. You see Satan. Satan
-
seeks to bind. He seeks to bind us through addictions.
-
It seeks to control us, control individuals, control their speech,
-
control their actions. And that is the heart of addictions,
-
isn't it takes over their actions, It takes over their life,
-
It takes over every.
-
Moment of their day.
-
Is when will I get the next high? And what
-
must I do to get that? Satan seeks to bind.
-
He seeks to bind individuals. Today, Satan only the enemy
-
seeks to bind.
-
But secondly, the enemy seeks to abuse.
-
Scripture tells us that this lady and those who were
-
understood historically at this time to be bound by this
-
spirit of divination. Scripture says that we were met by
-
a slave girl who had a spirit of divination, who
-
brought our owners much gained by fortune telling. We understand
-
a few things about this girl. Is one that she
-
had the spirit as we saw she was bound by
-
that spirit. But second we see that she's a slave.
-
Scripture says she had an owner.
-
She had on earth.
-
Scripture said plural and their owners use her power and
-
her ability to bring financial gain for them.
-
We know historic history would tell us.
-
Historical accounts would say ladies with these power powers were young,
-
beautiful girls. Sometimes they were older witches. We understood that
-
they would be sold into slavery and they would make
-
a lot of money for their owners by fortune telling.
-
Fortune telling at the time or magical oracles or used
-
in several ways. It was used to protect a person
-
from misfortune. It was used to attack another person or
-
even bring curses to another person. It was used to
-
win people over. It also used to give oracles or
-
utterances which were designed. Someone would go to a lady
-
like this and they would get her to give an oracle,
-
and it was design to get to please a god,
-
to Apollos or another god, that God might bring blessing
-
upon an individual. There was a lot of money into
-
this business at the time. In Greco Roman world, commanders
-
they wouldn't go to war without meeting with a fortune tailer.
-
They would be consulted.
-
She would be consulted for if someone was starting a business,
-
if they wanted prosperity in their business or prosperity in
-
their home, she would be consulted. But in verse nineteen,
-
look what the passage says, when that ability was taken
-
from her, when that demon would cast out of her,
-
Verse nineteen says, but when her owners saw that their
-
hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and silas
-
these owners use this possession and this binding of Satan
-
and this woman to abuse this woman for their financial gain.
-
And when Paul and Sila cast out that demon, and
-
she had no longer had any power, or she was
-
no longer bound, Scripture says.
-
They don't praise the Lord, do they.
-
They don't rejoice that this girl has been set free.
-
They don't rejoice that she has her voice again. They
-
don't rejoice that she has power again. They don't celebrate
-
that now she is not under control of someone else.
-
They are destroyed, they're disturbed, they're upset, they're angry. Why
-
because they have now lost their power to abuse her
-
for their financial gain. And what do we call that?
-
We call that abuse? Satan seeks to bind, but Satan
-
seeks to abuse, Satan seeks to use people in power
-
to abuse their power to hurt other individuals. Diane Lamberg
-
writes a great book called Suffering in the Heart of God,
-
and it talks She's a PTSD counselor. She's a trauma counselor,
-
one of the best in North America. And she writes
-
she thirty years ago, she was fifty years old when
-
she started being a psychiatrist and specializing in trauma. She's
-
traveled all over the world, and this is what she said.
-
Thirty years ago.
-
When I began speaking internationally, learned that nations followed abusive
-
patterns of families and churches, nations oppressed in silence and abuse.
-
In Burma, I found an entire nation crippled by abusive power.
-
In Wawanda, I first hand saw the first of the
-
effects of genocide perpetrated by the neighbors and fellow church members.
-
In Brazil, I was told that incest is a part
-
of culture. In Lebanon, I stood and looked over the
-
valley full of fragile structure, filled with Seria refugees who
-
had lost everything in are including proof of who they are.
-
You see, there are people in power and nations all
-
across our world today that are abusing their power to hurt,
-
inflict punishment, and abuses to people in their very country.
-
Just a few weeks ago, we met an individual while
-
we were on our mission team and he was from Nigeria.
-
And there is a group in Nigeria today that are
-
basically like a mafia gang and they're coming upon villages
-
and requiring the people in the village who give them
-
portions of their farm and giving them portions of money,
-
and if they do not give them, they will kill
-
the entire village. And that is happening today. You won't
-
find it on the news, but it is happening today.
-
Hundreds of thousands of people have died in Nigeria over
-
the abuse of a rogue power.
-
It's happening.
-
Do you know it's not happening with people in power
-
like these men who were in power of this girl
-
and Satan seeks to buying, but Satan seeks to abuse.
-
Do you know every nine seconds someone in a United
-
States a woman.
-
Is assaulted and is abused.
-
Just recently, I heard a story of a young girl
-
that was in the Triangle area who's been sex trafficked
-
by her father. He was called and put in prison.
-
The family of his I think his family. We're in
-
a local church, was teaching Sunday school and the found
-
of course their son or their family member gotten put
-
in prison. And this was part of this young girl
-
was part of their family. And they are so destroyed
-
by the impact of that abuse they have left the
-
church and have never gone back again. You see, Satan
-
seeks to bind, but seek. Satan seeks to abuse individuals.
-
He seeks to use power of people individual and he
-
seeks to abuse others and bring that to their downfall.
-
That they are victims.
-
That is happening in our world, and Satan is behind
-
it all. We must be We must open our eyes
-
and see these things are the Scripture says, we don't
-
wrestle against flesh and blood, but we wrestle against the
-
principalities of this world.
-
Today.
-
Satan is still active as he was then, and we
-
must examine it and know it and know that's his intentions.
-
Satan seeks to buying. Satan seeks to abuse. Satan seeks
-
to deceive. Scripture says, and this passage of scripture she
-
brought her owners much gain by fortune telling. In verse
-
seventeen she Scripture says, she followed Paul and us and
-
crying out, these men are servant the Most High God,
-
who proclaimed to you the.
-
Way of salvation.
-
And she kept doing this for many days. Paul, having
-
become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I
-
command you the name of Jesus Christ to come out
-
of her. And it came out of her that very
-
our Scripture says, Paul and silasts are going in the city,
-
and right after they lead Lydia to the Lord, they
-
began going to the city and they're sharing and scripture says,
-
day after day, this demon possessed girl, slave girl follows them.
-
She everywhere they go, she goes, and scripture says, as
-
she follows them, she proclaims. Now, look what scripture says
-
that she proclaims, these men are serving them the Most
-
High God who proclaimed to you the way of salvation.
-
Now you think, man, she's doing great. She's just endorsing them.
-
She's saying that they are from God. And you think
-
that's a really good thing.
-
But you have to understand. Everyone in the city knew
-
what she was. A fortune teller.
-
People had gone to her and asked that she would
-
beckon God on their behalf, and they would pay her
-
to get favor from one of the many gods that
-
they had worshiped. This is a potheistic society that they
-
were in. So she had given and she had done
-
oracles from many different gods. And so now it's Paul
-
and Soilus is coming in. This demon is following them,
-
and they're proclaiming that they are from the most High God.
-
But the term god here would be the same termed
-
it would be used at the time for Zeus, for Apollo,
-
and the other savior here in this term, the emperor
-
from Rome would be called a savior. What she's doing,
-
she is proclaiming, yes, Paul and Silas, they are telling
-
you about a god, and that's just the god like Zeus.
-
That's just like Apoulus. He's not like any other god.
-
He's just like one of the other gods. And yes,
-
they're saying that he can save you, but so will.
-
He's the same savior, just like our emperor's a savior.
-
So what she is doing in this passage of scripture,
-
Satan is using her to deceive, to say the God
-
of Paul, the god of these missionaries, is the same
-
god as Zeus and all the others, and just says
-
they can save you.
-
Their God can save you, just like Zeus.
-
You just worship, you worship Zeus, you worship these and yeah,
-
you can worship him. To Scripture says, I think it's
-
very important here as you know this passive scripture. She
-
didn't do this once, did she? She did it every day?
-
And what was she trying to do? Listen to this
-
is very important. She was not telling the people of
-
Philippi not to worship something.
-
Did they did? She?
-
No, she wants them to worship something, but she wants
-
them to worship the wrong thing, the wrong God, not
-
the right God.
-
Satan seeks to deceive.
-
He seeks to tell people, yes, you can worship God,
-
but you can just you just don't need to worship.
-
The main God.
-
You need to worship one of the many gods of.
-
The world Satan wants you to worship. Don't be dissillusion.
-
He just wants you to worship something else besides the
-
true God. And that's what she's leading them to do.
-
She is actively seeking to deceive. Satan enemy wants to bind,
-
he wants to abuse, and he wants to deceive you.
-
Yeah, he wants you to worship, but he wants you
-
to worship the wrong thing.
-
You know, Lady God, God is one of the popular
-
artists of our world today. In New York Magazine, she
-
wrote an article and talking about what she does as
-
an artist, as a musical artist, and she says these words,
-
I have discovered that in art and as in music,
-
there's a lot of truth. Then there is a lie.
-
She said.
-
The artist is essentially creating a work to make a
-
lie a truth, but then he slides the lie in
-
amongst all the other truths. That tiny little lie is
-
the moment, the moment I live for, and the moment
-
that the audience falls in love. Lady God, God is
-
showing that the world and many in that world are
-
seeking just to deceive, and just as she's seeking to deceive,
-
and she's living for that moment, Satan is living for
-
the moment that he deceives you to believe a lie
-
and worship a lie. Can I tell you that Satan, teenager,
-
Satan wants you to worship. He wants you to deceive,
-
You to worship that boy or that girl that you think,
-
if I've just been in a relationship with him, that
-
will be it. He wants you to worship your sport.
-
He wants you to worship your school. He wants you
-
to find your identity in those things. Adults, he wants
-
you to worship your money. He wants you to worship
-
your hobbies. He wants you to worship your drugs, or
-
whatever it may be. He wants you to worship something else,
-
thinking that you'll find satisfaction in that thing. Satan listen
-
longs to bind. He launched abuse, and he desires, he
-
seeks to deceive. Lastly, when you see Satan longs to destroy,
-
Scripture says in verse eighteen, Paul and silas that she
-
does this day after day. Scripture says, you look back
-
with me. In verse eighteen. She kept doing this for
-
many days, and Paul hav Him become greatly annoyed, turned
-
and said to the spirit, I command you, in the
-
name of Jesus Christ, to come out of her. And
-
it came out of her that very hour. After a
-
few days, Paul just had enough. I'm tired of this
-
woman trying to see people away from the truth of
-
the Gospel. And he turns to her and he cast
-
out the demons, very similar to the same account of
-
Jesus when he comes upon the mountain and the man
-
had many demons named Legion, and Jesus cast out that
-
man and set him free. In the same story in
-
Jesus when he cast out the women, you remember he
-
cast out the demons into the pigs, right, and the
-
pigs went off.
-
The mountain and died.
-
And you remember all the people in the village came
-
and saw that, and they go back in the village,
-
and they come back and they run Jesus off. Why
-
are they mad? They're mad because they lost the money.
-
They're not mad. They're not praising that the man had
-
been delivered. They're upset that they lost all the money
-
from the pigs. Here in this passive scripture, it is
-
the same scenario. These owners who had this young girl
-
are not celebrating. They are upset and they're angry that
-
they have lost financially as a result of this. In
-
verse nineteen that says the owners look with me. But
-
when the owners saw that their hope of game was gone,
-
they seized Paul and silence. They dragged them into the
-
marketplace before the rulers. And when they brought them to
-
the magistrates, look at what happens here in verse twenty
-
they said, these men are Jews, and they are disturbing
-
our city. And look at verse twenty one. It's very important,
-
and they're advocating customs that are not lawful for us
-
as Romans to accept or practice. Verse twenty two says
-
the crowds joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore
-
off their gown, their garments off of them, and gave
-
orders to beat them with rods. These owners, once they
-
find out that this the girl that they had been
-
making all this money for us, has now been set free,
-
they take Paul and Silace and the companions. They'd take
-
them before the magists was the local ruler at the time,
-
and they said, these men are they're preaching, they're advocate
-
hating something that's different than we've ever heard before, and
-
this would be a lawful for us if we follow
-
their worship. When we follow worshiping only their God and
-
not the God of many gods, that means we'll have
-
to turn away from worshiping Rome. We'll have to turn
-
away from worshiping the Emperor. And they're leading us to
-
worship only the Lord only God, and this.
-
Must be stopped.
-
Scripture says, they get so enraged. It's unless a riot
-
that breaks out. In verse twenty that scripture says, in
-
verse twenty two, the crowd joined in attacking them. The
-
magistrates tore their clothes off of them. Scripture says, after
-
they this riot broke out, and they tore all the
-
clothes off of poll silas they start.
-
Beating with rods.
-
Listen, these men wont to destroy the Gospel. They want
-
to stop it. They want it to end. They don't
-
want this to go any further. They do not want
-
people to be delivered from bondage. They don't want people
-
to be delivered from abuses. They don't want people to
-
hear the good News of Jesus. And as a result,
-
they seek to destroy the messengers of the Gospel. Can
-
I tell you today, listen, Satan seeks to destroy you.
-
Satan seeks to abuse, Satan seeks to bind. Satan seeks
-
to stop the advancement of the Gospel. Today, we live
-
in a world today like no other time before that
-
Satan is actively trying to stop the good News of Jesus.
-
There's this great book. I don't know if you've ever
-
read it. I encourage you to read it sometime.
-
It will open your eyes to what's happened in our
-
world over the last many, many years. But in February
-
twenty ninth to nineteen forty eight, a pastor named Richard
-
Warbrand was arrested by secret police.
-
He was in Romania as a pastor there. He was
-
arrested for.
-
Christian worship and witnessing. He was put in prison under
-
the communist Romanian government at the time, and he was
-
sent to prison for fourteen years. And fourteen years he
-
was tortured him and his wife. He writes a book
-
called Torture for Christ and in that book he explains
-
the different things he endured. He tells in one of
-
my favorite stories of the book is he tells about
-
being beaten in order to preach. He said this, he said,
-
it was strictly forbidden to preach to other prisoners. It
-
was understood that whoever was caught doing this received severe beating.
-
A number of.
-
Decided we would pay the price for the privilege of preaching,
-
so we accepted their terms.
-
It was a deal.
-
We would preach and they would beat us. We were
-
happy preaching and they were happy beating us. So everyone
-
was happening, he said. The following scene happened more times
-
than I can remember. A brother was preaching to the
-
other prisoners when guards was suddenly burst in and surprising
-
them through halfway through a phrase. They would haul down
-
that individual, that preacher, to one of what they called
-
their beating rooms, and after what seemed like an endless beating,
-
they would bring him back and throwing back into the cell,
-
bloody and bruce on the prison floor, he would slowly
-
pick up his battered body, perfectly straightened up himself his clothing,
-
and he would say, my brothers, where did I leave
-
off when I was interrupted? And he would continue to preach.
-
Can I tell you today, just in Acts sixteen, Satan
-
and the enemy saw to stop the preaching of the Gospel,
-
to destroy it. It was happening in the nineteens, and today,
-
more than ever, we're seeing freedom of speech and religious
-
liberty coming under attack. Satan seeks to destroy. But as
-
we finish today, you know Satan has intentions, but so
-
desire Jesus. And what you see last week as we finish,
-
what is Jesus's attentions? Scripture says, look at with me
-
in verse eighteen, the Bible says, now this kept going
-
doing this for many days. Paul, having been greatlynnoyed, he
-
said to He didn't say to the woman. He said
-
to the spirit that was within the woman. He says,
-
I command you, listen to this in the name of
-
Jesus Christ, to once come out of her. And it
-
came out of her at that very hour. Paul was
-
very careful that day when he looked to that woman
-
who was bound, who was abused, who had been sought
-
to be destroyed, he called out, not in the name
-
of Paul, and name one of the apostles he knew,
-
listen to me today. He knew there was power in
-
Jesus's name, and so he declared, by the power of Jesus, come.
-
Out of her.
-
And Scripture says that Jesus delivered her. What is Jesus's
-
intentions for you? Listen to me today. Jesus's attentions for.
-
You is to deliver you. It's without a doubt.
-
In the room this size and people watching online, there's
-
many of you have been impacted by the binding of satan,
-
to addictions, or whatever it may be that you have
-
been bound in your life. Listen to me today, Jesus
-
seeks to deliver you. Can I tell you today that
-
many be in this room or in sound when the
-
six women across our world have been abused? Can I
-
tell you that Jesus seeks to deliver? Can I tell
-
you today there's many of you been impacted by the
-
deception of the enemy. You've believed many lies that you
-
could find hope, happiness and satisfaction.
-
Is something else? Can I do today?
-
Jesus seeks to deliver? Can I tell you many of
-
you have been sought, been attacked by trying to live
-
out your faith. You've been trying to be vocal, and
-
you seem like the enemy continues to come after you.
-
Can I tell you Jesus seeks to deliver. I remember
-
I was at Spring Branch Baptist Church.
-
I was a young pastor.
-
I was Aron thirty one years old, and I was
-
praying that God would save people in my church. One day,
-
I'll never get this long as I live. I got
-
a phone call. And I got a phone call by
-
a man and he said, Pastor, can you come to
-
my house? I never met the man in my life ever.
-
His name was Robert Beckham. He says, Pastor can you
-
come my house. I like to talk to you. So
-
I went over to his house that I'd never been
-
there before, walked into the door and there was a
-
man sitting in the recliner and he was just crying.
-
And I sat beside him. I said, well, mister Roberts,
-
this the first time I met you. And I said,
-
you know, how can I help you? He said, listen
-
to me, he said, I need to get saved. And
-
there by his chair, I led that man to the Lord.
-
That man had been bound to addiction of alcohol his
-
whole life. That day he was asking God to deliver him.
-
And can I tell you that day God or miraculously
-
set him free and he never touched it again to
-
the day the Lord take him home. God delivered him
-
from alcohol. God delivered him from a broken relationship, restored
-
his marriage, restored his home, and he found a new
-
relationship in Jesus Christ. Why because it wasn't the power
-
of Jonathan that day. Listen, it was the power of
-
Jesus that day that delivered a man who was bound,
-
delivered a man who'd been abused by alcohol and the addictions.
-
He delivered a man who had been deceived and found
-
that he thought he could find hope in something else
-
beside Jesus, and that man became a witness for Jesus Christ.
-
Jesus has the power to deliver. I love what Jesus says.
-
You remember jesus first sermon. Jesus goes into Syna God.
-
He just you know, is starting his mission, and he
-
goes into syn of God and Copronium. They reach out
-
that day as common practice and sin of gods, they
-
would ring out a scroll and they would read from
-
one of the scrolls. And that day they just by
-
chance God a scroll and they asked Jesus to read it.
-
And you know what Jesus read that day.
-
It says in Luke four seventeen, and the scroll the
-
Prophet's Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll
-
and he found a place where it was written. The
-
spirit of the Lord is upon me because he appointed
-
me to proclaim the good news the poor.
-
He has sent me to proclaim.
-
Liberty to the captives, to recover the sight of the blind,
-
to set liberty to those who are pressed, to proclaim
-
the year of the Lord's favor. Can I tell you
-
the first sermon of Jesus is Jesus saying, listen, I
-
come to deliver. I come to set free the captives.
-
I've come to heal the brokenhearted. I come to proclaim
-
the Lord Luke nineteen. Jesus says, the son of Man
-
came to seek and to save, that.
-
Save the loss.
-
Can I tell you today, just remind you today. Satan
-
seeks to bind, He seeks to abuse, he seeks to deceive,
-
he seeks to destroy. Jesus seeks to deliver. If you
-
think about Jesus as I close, I'll tell you.
-
I'm enjoying this though.
-
I think I can just go another thirty minutes. The
-
enemy sought to bind our Jesus that night in the
-
gardener gets him, and he to bound his hands.
-
They carried him to a mock trial.
-
The enemy sought to abuse the power of the Pharisees
-
and beat our Jesus in that that night he sought
-
to abuse the power of pilot.
-
As he beat him.
-
And when the cords of the cat the whip has
-
he beaten with the rods as they flogged him. They
-
sought to bind our Jesus. They sought to abuse our Jesus.
-
They sought to the enemy sought to deceive our Jesus
-
in the wilderness. They sought to destroy our Jesus on
-
the cross. And Hebrews listen to this. Hebrews twelve two
-
fourteen says this, since therefore children share in flesh and blood,
-
he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through
-
the death he might destroy the one who has power over.
-
Death, and that is the devil.
-
Jesus endured the enemy's attacks of abuse, binding, of deception,
-
and trying to destroy.
-
Why that he might set you free from it? You know?
-
There's the doctors at the Phoenix Arizona have found that rattlesnakes,
-
And I asked the van if you make your way up,
-
rattlesnakes can still strike even though they're dead.
-
They can still strike you, They can still bite you.
-
They can actually still kill you. Doctor says.
-
Every year there are admitted to the hospital many patients
-
that had been struck by a rattlesnake that they thought
-
was dead. Snakes sometimes were shot, sometimes their heads were
-
cut off. Yet a snake will retain its reflex action
-
and they can still make their striking motion even up
-
to sixty minutes after death.
-
Listen to me today, Satan, the old Serpent was defeated
-
at Calvary. His head was cut off, and Hebrews too
-
tells us that our high Priest Jesus.
-
Through his death, destroyed the enemy who has power over death.
-
He can still strike us, and he can still wound us,
-
but Jesus has the power to deliver us from his
-
deadly venom. Today, will you say, Jesus, I need you
-
to be my deliverer. I know Satan the enemy is
-
actively pursuing me, But Lord, you've given me power to overcome,
-
to be delivered.
-
However that may be for you. Today, will you surrender,
-
you call out to his name.
-
Today he has the power to deliver.
-
Would you stand with me?
-
Lord, I pray today that time, Lord, we've all been bitten,
-
we've all felt the wounds of Satan's attacks. Lord, we
-
thank you today that you know our wounds. You know
-
the times where we've been bitten, We've been hurt, we've
-
been battered, we've been broken, we've been like that slave girl,
-
felt like we're out of control, and just Lord, by
-
the power of your name Jesus, that you set her free. Lord,
-
I pray that'd be those today that through your power, Lord,
-
you would deliver them from whatever Lord Satan has brought
-
against them. So, Lord, I pray the day that they
-
would be the hearts of people today, whether they're believers
-
or whether they're unbelievers. I pray there'd be those who
-
would call upon your name Jesus to day and seek,
-
Lord you to deliver them. So, Lord, I pray for
-
a believer here today that's been bound by something. I
-
pray for the believer today that's been maybe impacted by abuse.
-
I pray, Lord, for the believer today that's been deceived.
-
Pray for the believer today that felt.
-
Like they've been destroyed.
-
Lord, I pray today they would be those believers who
-
would call upon you, the Deliverer and find healing.
-
Lord in your name.
-
Today, Lord, I pray for the unbelievers. Lord, I pray today,
-
just as that slave girl found you, Jesus, today, that
-
would find you, and that you would break every chain
-
of addiction, every chain of binding, every chain of abuse,
-
every deception that was in their heart or in their mind. Lord,
-
I pray or that you would set them free Today. Lord,
-
that's what you came to do. Lord, I pray you
-
would be at work in this place today. Lord, I pray,
-
there's someone here that doesn't know you as Lord and Savior.
-
Today.
-
I pray, right now, right where they are, they would
-
pray the myth that they're a sinner, believe that you
-
died on the cross, and they would confess Lord, their
-
need for you a savior today, that their need Lord,
-
for you deliver them today. And Lord, I pray that
-
the scripture says, if we confess with our mouths and
-
believe in our hearts today, we will be saved. I
-
pray there'd be those who would call out to you
-
today for salvation. Lord, lead us in this time of invitation.
-
We pray you name. We pray Amen.
-
Hears pain and all and all to Him
