If you every Bible was turned with me, and want
-
you turned with me to Acts. We're in our study
-
through the Book of Acts. We'll be in Acts eighteen,
-
starting the verse one in just a moment. But also
-
if you'll turn there with me, and also turn back
-
into the Old Testament, and if you'll find the prophet
-
Ezekiel Ezekiel thirty three when we read a few verses there.
-
Hopefully as you came in the door this morning, there
-
is a maybe you got one of the book cards.
-
Hopefully you got that when you came in and called,
-
who's your one? I don't know if there's any ushers.
-
If you did, and you could, maybe some ushers can
-
come by and give those out this morning. In in
-
October twenty second, twenty twelve, a court, an Italian court,
-
sentence seven scientists to manslaughter. They send us some a
-
manslaughter for not warning the people of Italy of a
-
earthquake in two thousand and nine. The earthquake in two
-
thousand and nine killed more than three hundred people. You
-
see there were sentenced to six years because they did
-
not The scientists, which were scientists that were in charge
-
of studying the size of the earthquake activity in the area.
-
That was their responsibility, their geological experts, and although that
-
was their job, they did not warn the people. Just
-
weeks or months before the earthquake, residents began feeling small tremors.
-
They noted that that been in the news. The scientists
-
had been watching the readings, They had been watching the
-
tremor activity, but at that time the experts, these scientists c.
-
Seven determined that it was unlikely but not impossible, that
-
a major earthquake would take place, and so therefore they
-
did not warn the people. And despite the concerns of
-
the people, despite the people saying they felt tremors, the
-
earthquake came, and three hundred people died, and an Italian
-
court sentence seven scientists to manslaughter for not warning people.
-
They saw their eatings, they felt the warnings, they read
-
the data, but they did not warn the people of
-
the coming danger. In Ezekiel thirty three, I'll read that
-
passage with you and I there's a command that God
-
gives a prophet, the prophet Ezekiel, and he gives them
-
a command about the importers of Ezekiel and God's people,
-
the reports of them warning of coming trouble. He says
-
this in Ezekiel thirty three one three six. The word
-
of the Lord came to me, son a man, speak
-
to your people. Say to them, if I bring the
-
sword upon the land, and the people of the land,
-
take a man from among them, make him their watchman.
-
If he sees the sword coming upon the land, and
-
he blows the trumpet and warns the people, And if
-
the people hear the sound of the trumpet and does
-
not take the warning, the sword comes and takes him away,
-
the blood shall be upon his own head. If he
-
heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take
-
the warning, his blood shall be upon himself. But if
-
he had taken the warning, he would have saved his life.
-
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does
-
not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned,
-
and the sword comes and takes one of them, that
-
person is takeaway, and his iniquity, but his blood I
-
will acquire at the watchman's hand. See the same imagery
-
that we found. The court held the seven scientists guilty
-
for not warning the people. In Ezekiel's time, God tells
-
the prophet Isaiah, I mean Ezekiel, that my sword. My
-
judgment is coming upon the land. And Ezekiel, I'm setting
-
you to be the watchman. My judgment's coming. And when
-
you see my judgment coming, I tell you are You're
-
commanded as the watchman to sound the horn, to blow
-
the alarm, to set off the alarm, and that the
-
alarm might warn people that God's Judgment's coming. Now, if
-
you sound the alarm, if you warn them and they
-
don't repent, they don't turn away, then it's on their head.
-
But if you don't warn them, if you see that
-
it's coming and you don't warn them, their blood will
-
be on your hands. You know, the Bible tells us,
-
as we just looked last week, and the Acts seventeen
-
thirty through thirty one. We just read this last week
-
in our study through the Book of Acts, the time
-
of ignorance of God. In times of ignorance, God overlook.
-
But now he commands all people everywhere to because He
-
has fixed a day on which he will judge the
-
world in righteousness by a man who's appointed. And of
-
this he has given assurance to all by raising him
-
from the dead. Can I tell you that in Ezekiel time,
-
God told Ezekiel that my judgment is coming and your
-
call to warn them. Can I tell your acts tells
-
us last week that just as God told Ezekiel, God
-
now tells us that judgment's coming. That God has fixed
-
a day which you will judge all the world and listen.
-
God appointed Ezekiel to be a watchman and as a
-
believer in Jesus Christ. If you're here today, can I
-
tell you God has commanded you to be a watchman.
-
God has commanded you to be one who warns people,
-
your friends, your neighbors, your co workers, your classmates of
-
the coming judgment that's coming. If you have your there,
-
hopefully as you came in, you got one of those
-
who I want you to think about something for me. Now,
-
who's your one? The whole premise of the book mark
-
is if there's one person that you know, a family member,
-
co worker, classmate. Who's that one person that you know
-
that needs Jesus? And I want you if you have
-
that card, I want you to write their name on
-
that card today at some point, maybe in the service now,
-
maybe some other time today. But who's that one person?
-
Can I tell you God's called you to share the
-
gospel without person to warn them this judgment's coming this morning,
-
as we come to this passage of scripture, Paul understood that.
-
Paul now understood this was a command that God had
-
given Ezekiel. This is a command that God's given all people. Right,
-
Matthew twenty eight, go you all to all the nations,
-
telling them about telling them about Jesus, teaching them all
-
that I've commanded. You baptized them in my name. Right,
-
you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, judas some here
-
to the ends of the earth. Paul understood that was
-
God's command for all people, for all Christians. And God knew,
-
and Paul knew that he was a watchman, was the
-
warn people because judgment was coming. Since we come to
-
this passage of scripture, I want to look today of
-
Paul understood this was his calling, And how did Paul
-
faithfully warn people about the coming judgment? Today? I want
-
to lead you to if God's called you to share
-
the gospel, if God's called you to faithfully warn people
-
of the coming judgment, how do you do that? Today?
-
Is not so much practically methodolically of how you're going
-
to share the gospel in a method, it's practically speaking,
-
what are elements in your life practically that needs to
-
happen in your What are some things in your life
-
that needs to be in place if you're going to
-
faithfully warn people about Jesus. So let's stand and let's
-
look at see how Paul faithfully warned and how we
-
can see today how we are to faithfully warn people
-
about God's coming judgment. The Bible says in Acts eighteen,
-
starting in verse one. Now after this, Paul left Athens,
-
and he went to Corinth, and he found a Jew
-
name Aquila, and native Pontus recently came from Italy with
-
his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded the all Jews
-
to leave Rome, and he went to see them. And
-
because he was of the same trade, he stayed with
-
them and worked for they were tent makers by trade.
-
And he reasoned in the sin of God every Sabbath,
-
and he tried to persuade the Jews and Greeks. When
-
Silas a Timothy arrived in Macedonia, Paul was occupied with
-
the word testifying to the Jews that Christ was Jesus.
-
And when they opposed him and reviled him, listen, is
-
this he shook out his garments and said to them,
-
your blood be on your heads. I am innocent. From
-
now on, I will go to the Gentiles. And he
-
left there, and he went to the house of a
-
man Titus Justice, a worship of worship of God. His
-
house was next door to the sin of God, and Christmas,
-
the ruler of the sen of God, believed in the Lord.
-
Together with the entire household. In many of the hearing,
-
Paul believed. And we're baptized. Let's pray, Lord, You've called
-
us to be your witnesses. You called us to be
-
your watchman. You're called us to warn people of the
-
coming judgment. Lord, tell them about the good news of
-
salvation that's found in You Jesus. So Lord, I pray
-
today that as we look at Paul's example of how
-
he faithfully warned the car the Corinthians, Lord, may we
-
examine God, who have you put in our life and
-
how are we faithfully warning them? So Lord, lead us
-
by your word today. God, I pray for Lord, what
-
we need today more than ever, and that we need
-
your word, not mine. We need your spirit. And so Lord,
-
we pray Lord that your spirit would fill this place.
-
Your word would convict our hearts. And Lord, I pray
-
we surrender Lord to the teaching of your word today,
-
and your name we pray a man you may be seated.
-
See how we faithfully warn. First, we faithfully warn by
-
working for the gospel. We faithfully warn by working for
-
the gospel. We see that in verse one, Paula's Athens,
-
and he goes into this very important city. It's a
-
very important city for the future of the church. This
-
is corinth This is Paul would write actually four letters
-
to the corinth We have two of those, First and
-
Second Corinthians. So this would be a major city that
-
Paul would start a church in. That would be a
-
major city, that would a major church. This was a
-
very wicked city. This was considered the Las Vegas of
-
the time. There was a lot of immorality in the
-
city that we see later on come out in Paul's
-
letter to the Corinthians and First Corinthians and Second Corinthians.
-
But he comes into the city. It was about forty
-
five miles west of Athens. He comes in there, scripture
-
tells us. Immediately there there he meets a couple. Husband's
-
name Aquila, the wise name is Priscilla, and so he
-
begins meeting with them. Scripture tells us here that they
-
because that these two had left Italy and came to Corinth.
-
Claudius had mentioned Claudius. Claudius was the emperor at time
-
in Rome, and the Jews had in Rome had created
-
a really a big uproar in the city of Rome,
-
and the uproar was over the Christians. At this time.
-
There was believed about fifty thousand Jews into Rome at
-
the time, and that was a significant amount of Jews
-
in Rome, and there was Christians in Italy, the Christians
-
in Rome, and these the Jews, these fifty thousand Jews,
-
didn't like what the Christians were doing. They didn't like
-
the Christians were evangelizing and people were coming to the
-
Lord and converting from Judaism, convert converting Romans to christ
-
They didn't like that, and so they sent in the
-
city in uproar and attacked the Jews. Claudius didn't light
-
the fighting between the Jews and the Christians, and so
-
he expelled them all. He expelled them, the Christians out
-
of Rome. And the scripture tells us that Quila and
-
Priscilla left Rome and came to carth Now here's the
-
question for you as you come to this passage of Scripture.
-
If you understand much about Acts, we've read through, or
-
we've been studying through the Book of Acts. Now we're
-
in the eighteenth chapter and up this point. As we've
-
looked at Paul's missionary journey, Paul has never made it
-
to Rome. He's shared the Gospel and converted city after
-
city to Christ, started churches in city after city, but
-
Paul has not been to Rome. No missionary at this
-
point had been to Rome. So the question for you
-
and I, how did the Gospel get to Rome. It
-
wasn't a pastor, it wasn't an apostle. We see it
-
nowhere and Acts. You know how the Gospel got to Rome.
-
Believers who left the church in Jerusalem after the persecution
-
of Paul when Paul was Saul, and they took the
-
Gospel to the end of the earth. Christians, just ordinary Christians,
-
took the Gospel to Rome and a church was started.
-
It wasn't a pastor, it wasn't a missionary. And now
-
these Aquila and Prisilla tent makers, not pastors, not missionaries,
-
tent makers. They have taken their trade in city after city.
-
They've used their trade to expand the Gospel. And now
-
these Priscilla and Aquila evidently were sharing the gospel in Rome,
-
and they were part of the ones that had the
-
tension between the Christians, I mean the Jews. They have
-
now left Rome, they've come to KRT and guess what
-
they're doing. They're they're still making tents and whether they're
-
doing using their their tent making their business, they're using
-
it as a platform to share the Gospel. And Paul
-
scripture tells us he joins them. He joins them because
-
they're the same trade. In verse three, you see in
-
this passage we see Aquila in Priscilla and Paul, and
-
they're faithfully warning people about the Gospel, how through their occupation,
-
through their trade. I don't know if you ever heard
-
the story of a man named Edward Kimball. I think
-
you probably have. I've shared maybe this story before. Edward
-
Kimball was a school teacher. He taught school, but he
-
also taught Sinday school. He taught middle school boys. And
-
Edward Kimball had a passion to reach every boy in
-
his class for Christ. He had a goal. It's kind
-
of like who's your one? And he had a goal
-
that he was going to share the gospel with every
-
boy in that class. There was a boy in that
-
class that often would fall asleep into Sunday school hour.
-
It was just seemed like he never paid attention, but
-
he knew he was lost. His name was Dwight L. Moody.
-
One day, Dwight was working at his uncle's shoe store
-
and Edward Kimball decided that he was going to go
-
to the sh shoe store of that Edward, I mean
-
Dwight and Moody worked at and he was going to
-
share the gospel. This is what Kimball says. He says,
-
I was determined to speak with him about Christ, about
-
his soul. I started down to the bootstore and I
-
was about to go in, and I started thinking, maybe
-
I shouldn't go during business hours. It might embarrass the
-
boy when I when I would left, maybe the other
-
clerks other people worked in there may tick on him
-
about his Sunday school teacher trying to make him a
-
good boy. But in the meantime, as I passed the store,
-
I discovered discovered that I was determined I needed to
-
share so he either it was now or never, So
-
he said he went. He goes into the store, and
-
he says, I found him in the back of the building.
-
He was wrapping up shoes. I went up to him
-
and I put my hand on his shoulder. What I
-
and then I made what he says, a week plea
-
for Christ. I don't even he says, I don't know
-
just what words are you, nor I could I could?
-
Could he tell whether Moody understood. I simply told him
-
Christ loved for him, and that Christ wanted what Christ
-
wanted in return. And that was it that young man
-
that day, Dwight L. Moody, God saved you see, for Kimball,
-
that was one of his ones. And Kimball didn't think
-
he had to be a preacher, or had to be
-
a missionary, or had to be some professional in ministry
-
as a Sunday school teacher. As a school teacher, God
-
had called him to share the gospel. God had given
-
people in his life that he was to share the
-
gospel with, and he was determined to share with his one.
-
It doesn't stop there. If you know the story, Dwight L.
-
Moody would become evangelist and share the gospel. He would
-
lead a man to the Lord named Wilburn Wilburn Chapman,
-
and I'm going to talk about him in just the
-
little bit. Chapman would be evangelists and he would share
-
the Gospel of revival service. And there was a baseball
-
player there by the name of Billy Sunday. Billy Sunday
-
would get saved during one of his meetings. Billy Sunday
-
would begin sharing the Gospel and do crusades, and he
-
would lead a man named the Lord named Mordecai Ham.
-
Mordecai Ham also became a pastor and was during crusades,
-
and he did a crusade in Charlotte, North Carolina. And
-
there's a young man at Charlotte, North Carolina who was
-
at the crusade and his name was Billy Graham. It
-
all started with one Sunday school teacher. One school teacher
-
who had a passion to share the Gospel with his
-
one and determined to use whatever God given him occupationally
-
to use it as a platform to share the gospel.
-
Can I tell you today, we come here on Sunday morning,
-
we're all about Jesus. We worship, we give him praise,
-
we listen to the message but listen. It should not
-
stop on Sunday morning. Whatever we do outside of here occupationally,
-
whether we're bagging groceries, we should bag groceries in order
-
to share the gospel. We should we should work in
-
our careers. We should teach in our schools in order
-
to share the gospel. We should farm if we're farmers,
-
in order to share the gospel. If we're practice medicine,
-
we should practice medicine in order to share the gospel.
-
If we serve in it, we should serve in it
-
in order to share the Gospel. Whatever you do as
-
a trade, God wants to use your occupation to advance
-
the Gospel of Jesus. Christ were to faithfully warn by
-
working for the gospel. Quila and Priscilla and Paul used
-
their trade to take the Gospel to the ends of
-
the earth. Secondly, we should we should we faithfully warn
-
by removing obstacles. The Bible says in verse three, look
-
at it with me, because he was of the same trade.
-
He stayed with them, and he worked for they were
-
temp makers by trade. And he reasoned in the Synagod
-
every Sabbath, and tried to persuade the Jews in the Greeks.
-
It's interesting Paul was a missionary. He'd taken the gospel
-
all through these different places, and he comes to Corinth
-
and the Bible says that he's working with a quillaen
-
Priscilla and working trades. He works Monday through Friday in
-
the trades, using that trade to try to use opportunities
-
to share the gospel. But then on the weekends he's
-
in the synagod regularly on Saturday sharing the gospel. But
-
he You would think maybe it's just a missionary, full
-
time missionary, just be totally dedicated to sharing the gospel,
-
but he doesn't. Why doesn't Paul said this in one
-
Corinthians nine to twelve. He says, if others share this
-
rightful claim to you, do we not? Even more so,
-
he's talking to the church in Corinth where he started.
-
He says, nevertheless, we have not made use of this right,
-
but we do anything rather than put an obstacle in
-
the way of the gospel. He's talking to this church
-
that he starts here as we're reading this morning, and
-
he's talking about he had the rightful claim to accept
-
support and be self supported and not work and share
-
the gospel. But Paul said, I worked in order that
-
it not be an obstacle for you in receiving the gospel.
-
You see the same thing at that's on ends when
-
he goes to Anaika, he works there because he didn't
-
want to be a stumbling block. Why. You see, at
-
the time in Carinth, there were some cynic philosophers that
-
were teaching throughout Krinth. These philosophers would come town to
-
town and they would kind of do like street preaching,
-
and this street preaching that they did in the streets
-
and in the marketplaces. They believed that they should be
-
free from any want, and so they therefore depended upon
-
the contributions of the hearers for their basic needs. And
-
these cynic street preachers were considered untrustworthy. Paul knew that
-
when he came in the court, he says, if I
-
come in there and I just preached to them, and
-
I preach in the street corners and I'm not working
-
in my trade, some of them may think I'm just
-
like one of those and they may not think I'm trustworthy.
-
In order for it not to be a stumbling block,
-
I'm going to work in order to remove that obstacle
-
from the gospel that people might hear the Gospel and
-
not allow me not working be a stumbling block for them.
-
You see, Paul understood that there's certain things in my
-
life that if it's a hindrance to the Gospel, I'm
-
willing to remove it that people might hear Jesus. You know,
-
a few years ago, I had a friend of mine
-
and he had got caught up in a lawsuit and
-
he had a small business, and another small business in
-
the area sued his business and took him to court.
-
And when they took him to court, they seized his computers,
-
his phones, and they went through everything, read every text
-
message he had, every email he said, and you personal
-
messages between him his wife, and I remember talking about
-
how he felt like he'd just been exposed. He just
-
felt like he was just they just went through everything.
-
Paul in Philippians one twenty says this as my eager expectation.
-
I hope and I will all be all. I will
-
not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage
-
now as always Christ will be honored my body, whether
-
my life or by my death. Paul was in prison
-
at the time. He was actually headed to trial, and
-
he's going to be sentenced to life or death. And
-
when he was on trial, he knew that they were
-
going to examine everything about his life, just a lot
-
like my friend. They were going to look for any
-
kind of dirt they can find on Paul. And Paul
-
says that he says this about that encounter. Paul says,
-
these words I just read. And what Paul was saying
-
here is my expectation of my hope that listen way
-
he says that I will not all be ashamed. You
-
know what Paul is saying there, He says, somebody looks
-
at my life and they examine every aspect of my life.
-
I hope there's nothing in my life that will bring
-
shame to Jesus. Hope there's nothing in my life that
-
would shame the Gospel and it will hinder the Gospel
-
in anyway. Can I tell you when we say, you
-
know what Lord, I want to be. I want to
-
faithfully share the Gospel with my one and Lord, I
-
know you may you've put me in my place? You
-
can I tell you God's put you in the workplace
-
that you work with, with the friends and coworkers you
-
work with, the school that you go to with the
-
friends and classmates you have. He puts you where you
-
are right now that you might be a light of
-
the gospel. To where you are. He's put people in
-
your life that you might share the Gospel with him.
-
And you must understand sharing the Gospel that just happen
-
on Sunday mornings, It happens on Monday mornings, happens on
-
Tuesday mornings. It happens as we go and we go
-
by our everyday life. And we must say, if I'm
-
going to faithfully warn, I've got to use what God's gifted,
-
God's given me, what career God's given me. But secondly,
-
I must think about what in my life is an
-
obstacle to the Gospel. What in my life is hindering
-
people from coming to know Jesus. And if there's a
-
hindrance in my life that's hindering people from someone receiving Jesus,
-
what am I doing to remove it? I mean, if
-
Jesus is really coming back and my coworker doesn't hear
-
about Jesus, he's going to hell. And God had me
-
work byside for years and years and I never told him.
-
At what point do I do I say, God, you
-
put him in my life. At what point do I say, God,
-
I'm so serious, I don't want him to go to hell.
-
That God, if there's things in my life that I
-
need to remove that he gets to know Jesus, I'll
-
do it because his soul is more valuable than the
-
things that I want to hold onto. And Paul's silence says,
-
ses that I faithfully warn about God, who do you
-
you put in my life? And how am I going
-
to share with them and use my career to share
-
the gospel? But God, also, what in my life is
-
a hindrance to the Gospel? And what am I willing
-
to let go of, to get rid of, to remove
-
that they might hear Jesus. Think about that name that
-
you were on a O card today? Is there anything
-
in your life that is hindering your one from knowing Jesus?
-
Or are you willing to remove it that they might
-
hear Jesus. Third, this morning we faithfully warned by working
-
for the gospel. We faithfully warned by removing obstacles. We
-
faithfully warn Thirdly, by testifying, Look what happens to the
-
Bible says that in verse four reasoned then sent a
-
God every Sabbath and tried to persuade the Jews and Greeks,
-
and when Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was
-
occupied with the word, testifying to the Jews that Christ
-
was Jesus. Says. Silas and Timothy were in Athens, and
-
after a short time they came and they kind of
-
joined Paul in the mission. It's believed at that time
-
that Silas and Timothy may have brought an offering from
-
some of the churches that he had been maybe on
-
his first missionary during other places, and that allowed Paul
-
not to have to work. But he had contributions. He
-
didn't depend upon getting contribution from mebody in Corinth. He
-
had some, so he was able to allow him to
-
just preach. And the Bible says at that time there
-
was a shift for Paul, and Paul occupied himself with
-
the word. The word occupied. There is the idea of exorbing.
-
It's kind of like a sponge. You're right, You're a
-
bought a sponge and a straw you put into a
-
bucket of water and it exhorbs the water. That's the
-
imagery here. Paul exsorbed the word. He studied the word,
-
he dug into it. Can I tell you there's an
-
importance when we want to grow in the Word of God,
-
and we want to grow and share in the Gospel,
-
there's really takes some time that we really need to
-
be people who say, you know what, this requires me
-
to get in the Word. The greatest thing you can
-
share when you share the Gospel, share in the Word
-
of God. The only way you're going to share the
-
Word of God is if you know the Word of God.
-
There must be a concentrated effort for us to say,
-
you know what, there's times where I need to be
-
in the Word daily, and it's not only for my edification,
-
but also that I might be a bright light for
-
the Gospel. Paul did that. He absorbed himself in the Word.
-
He grew in the Word. But listen to what the
-
Bible says. But verse sec six says, and when they
-
opposed him with reviled he Verse five says, when Paul
-
occupied the word, listen what he did with it. He
-
testified through the Jews that Christ was Jesus. It's very
-
simply there comes to a time where we say, what
-
God's put this person, this one in my life. I
-
need to use what talents and gifts. Occupation I have,
-
whether it's being in school now or working in a career,
-
I need to use this opportunity to share the gospel.
-
Can I tell you students, one of my biggest regrets
-
of being in high school in middle school is I
-
did not share the gospel like I should. I was
-
too concerned about being cool, too concerned about what would
-
someone think if I shared. Jesus and many of those
-
students I have never seen again. That was my opportunity.
-
This is your opportunity. Don't waste it. Go. I tell
-
you adults here today, you don't know how long you have.
-
Use every moment you have to share the gospel. But
-
there's some times where just simply hey, we're using the opportunity.
-
I'm removing obstacles. There's time, just I've studied the word
-
of God's time to share. You know, one of the
-
hardest ones to be you're one. It's family, isn't it
-
the hardest people sharing the gospel with his loved ones,
-
isn't it? One of my ones was my grandpa. I
-
was so worried about his salvation. I was in college.
-
I think Mike is rubbed Sorry. I'm trying to fix
-
it so you don't hear it shaken. I was in college.
-
I think i'd finished college. I was in ministry and
-
serving in churches, and I'd shared the gospel of different people,
-
but I never shared the gospel with him. And I
-
told Brandie one day, I said, I cannot live with
-
myself knowing I've never asked him about does he know Jesus?
-
So I remember, I made a plan. I decided I
-
go visit him. My grandma had already passed away, and
-
I went into his house and I remember sitting down
-
in the living room. I never forget it, and I
-
remember looking at him, said, Grandpa, I want to ask
-
you a hard question, but I love you enough to
-
ask you, do you know Jesus. That was one of
-
the hardest questions and the hardest conversations I've ever had
-
in my entire life. But I can confidently stand today
-
and said I was faithful to warn how about you?
-
The Bible says that Paul shares and if we go
-
to verse six here, I want you to see here,
-
it says, and when they opposed and reviled him, the
-
word revival is actually is a word for heresy. They
-
actually call him a heretic. They label him as a
-
heretic the Jews. This is what Paul does, and that's
-
where I wanted to end here this morning. Paul scripture
-
says that reviled him. He shook out his garments and
-
he said to them, you're blood beyond your heads. I'm innocent.
-
See Paul's using the imagery of Zechie, isn't he? Paul says, listen,
-
I faithfully use my occupation that it might share the
-
gospel with you. I faithfully remove the obstacles that might
-
hinder you from coming to know Jesus. I faithfully told
-
you about Jesus. You've rejected. Your blood is not on
-
my hands. I ask you today the name that's on
-
your card. Are you innocent? Have you faithfully warned them?
-
Have you faithfully shared the gospel? God's called you to share?
-
What would you do? What will you do in the
-
days to come? God has given you time left? What
-
will you do this year the gospel and be faithful
-
to warn? I want to close with this. Wilburn, who
-
was led to the Lord by Dwight Elmodi, wrote this,
-
writing about if Christianity, if there's truth in the Bible, true,
-
then it should then cause a result. He says this,
-
If to be a Christian is worthwhile, then the most
-
ordinary interest in those with whom we can come in
-
contact with prompt us to speak to them about Christ.
-
If the New Testament is true, and we know that
-
it is who has given us the right, the right,
-
and the responsibility for soul winning other than our own shoulders.
-
If they reject Christ are in danger. Those who reject
-
Christ are in danger. And is it not strange that we,
-
who are sympathetic when difficulties in physical temporals, should apparently
-
be so devoid of interest as to allow our friends
-
and our neighbors and kindred to come into our own
-
lives and to pass out again without a word of
-
invitation to except Christ, or to say nothing of astounding
-
note of warning of the coming danger of hell. If
-
today is the day of salvation, and if tomorrow may
-
never come, if life is equally uncertain, how can we eat,
-
drink with those that we live with, work with, walk
-
with love us. And they're unprepared for eternity because they're
-
unprepared for time. If Jesus called disciples to seek the lost,
-
If Paul the Apostle was in agony because of his
-
the fellow Jews did not know Christ. Why should we
-
not consider it worthwhile to go after the lost until
-
they are found. If I am to stand in judgment
-
seat of Christ and to render account for the deeds
-
done in my body, what am I to say to him?
-
If my children are missing, if my friends are not saved,
-
if my employer or the employee should miss the way
-
because I have been faithless. If I wish to be
-
approved at last, then let me remember that no intellectual superiority,
-
no eloquent preaching, no shrinking and temperament, no being shy
-
can take the place or be an excused for me
-
making an honest, sincere, prayerful effort to win someone to Christ.
-
You pray with me. Lord, we are your children, and Lord,
-
we are so thankful that you saved us. But Lord,
-
they're once their family. There's neighbors, there's coworkers, there's classmates,
-
And Lord, there don't know you. And Lord, if they
-
don't receive you, they don't put their faith in you.
-
Your judgment's coming. Lord. May we be as a body
-
of believers, as individuals. May we have a passion a
-
commitment to be faithful to warn them to be faithful,
-
to share the good news Lord, that you so loved
-
them that you died on a cross, that who shall
-
ever believe in You shall not perish by have everlasting life.
-
So Lord, give us a heart, give us a passion,
-
give us an intentionality to put our hand on the
-
shoulder of someone like Kimbldo and tell them about Jesus. Lord.
-
We love you, Lord. This is hard. We confess that
-
to you today. Lord, help us surrender to you even
-
in the hard things, even when we're fearful, we're uncertain.
-
Maybe we surrender to you today, or we love you
-
your name, We pray Amen, Jesus pain all to
