No Good (Psalm 16)

Good morning. It's good to see you. Thank you for

being with us this morning. If you have your Bible

was turned with me to Psalm sixteen this morning. We've

been in a series through psalms over this last month,

and as we finished the last Sunday in November, we're

going to finish our series in psalms Psalm sixteen. There's

seven different seven different types of psalms, and one psalm

type is a Messianic salm, and Psalm sixteen is a

Messianic psalm. So as we get ready for Christmas, I

thought it was appropriate that we would look at a

palm that prophesies about Christ and about who Christ will be,

who the Messiah would be. And so Psalm sixteen is

that title of my sermon is no good Now, I

don't know how your thanksgiving. Have you had a great

thanksgiving for us and our Thanksgiving? I've come to realize

that here we had this great spread of food, We

had all kinds of different sides, we had three different meats.

But you know, at the end of the day, it

all comes down to whether the turkey was good or not.

That was It didn't matter if the hen was good

or if the other we had some barbecue there. It

was all comes down at the very end where the

turkey was good. Now, the turkey was my responsibility. I

just have you know, well every the last few years,

you know, kind of been cooking turkey. And I remember

a few years ago we we have like all this

cooker and I kind of kind of deep fried in

a way. And so that has just been a hit

for many years. Well, a few years ago, I decided

I was going to branch out. I have a smoker,

and I decided I want to smoke this turkey. I've

never done that before, and it, man, it's gonna be fantastic.

Got online and found a recipe of hod A brin

and I decided this year, I'm going to go all out.

I'm going to smoke it. Never done that before. I'm

going to smoke it. I'm going to brin it. I'm

gonna and not only am I'm going to brin it,

I'm going to make my own brine. Oh yeah, you know,

don't go buy the stuff in the store, make your own.

And so I did that, and I I worked up

all this stuff, took all this extra time, and I

cooken't it. And I'll never forget. Brandy's daddy and his

two brothers says, I don't know what you did, Jonathan.

Don't do that again. Don't do that again. So this

year I went back, we're old faithful, and Brandi's daddy said,

what I think, maybe we should bright not So no, no, no, no,

we ain't Brian and it. We're just going back to

the way old faithful. But you know, we really do.

And you know we joke that we evaluate Thanksgiving based

on how good the turkey is, but we really do

evaluate all kinds of different things, right, We do that

every day. We evaluate whether something is good or not.

We evaluate where our food was good. We evaluate whether

the temperature in the room is good. This morning, We'll

evaluate whether we go to restaurant at lunch, whether the

service were good, where the food was good. We'll evaluate

as family worship today, whether our children's behavior was good

in church. Right, we'll evaluate whether this week when we

make a decision, where that was a good decision. We'll

evaluate whether we have good things, whether our car is

a good car, or our homes a good home. We'll

evaluate at the end of the day, maybe over lunch today,

whether the service was good, whether the music was good,

whether the sermon was good. As we come to Psalm sixteen,

David is is evaluating his life, and I want you

to think about that for you today and as you

look at your life and who what your life is.

David evaluates his life, and he in his life evaluates

really what was good in his life. And as David

comes to this decision, he confesses today that apart from God,

there was no good in his life. The only good

in his life was was the Lord. And he confesses

very simply, apart from you, God, there is no good.

And so I want you to think this morning as

we read this passive scripture. Today, David confesses that God,

you are my God, and there's no good apart from you.

I want you to think about the many good things

that you have in your life, your possessions, your family,

your friends, your church family. Recognize today there's no good

apart from God. And this morning, let's take some time

to review our life, our things, and may we confess

like David today that Lord, there's no good in my

life apart from You. Let's stand together and let's read

Psalm sixteen together. The Bible says, this is the word

of the Lord. Preserve me, o God, for in you

I take refuge. I said to the Lord, you are

my Lord, and I have no good apart from you.

As for the saints in land, they are the excellent ones,

in whom is all my delight. The sorrow of those

who run after another God shall multiply their drink offerings

of blood. I will not pour out I'll or take

their names upon my lips. For the Lord is my

portion in my cup. You hold my lot. The lines

have fallen from me in pleasant places. Indeed I have

in a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives

me counsel in the night. Also my heart instructs me.

I've set the Lord always before me, because he is

my right hand, and I shall not be shaken. Therefore

my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices. My

flesh also dwells secure, for you will not abandon my

soul to shield, nor let your holy One see corruption.

You make known to me the path of life, and

in your presence there is fullness of joy. At your

right hand are pleasures forever more. Lord, we come to

you today, and Lord, I pray that we as David

would confess Lord, you as Lord, as Savior, as Master. Lord.

I pray today that as we confess Lord, that you

are our God. Lord, we want to live our life

for you. Lord. I pray that you would help us recognize, Lord,

that there are many good things in this life, but God,

there's no good apart from you. Lord. Lead us and Lord,

how to apply that in our life and our relationships

and our possessions and all these things. Lord, help us

look to you. Lord. We love you. I pray that Lord,

today this service would honor you. Lord. I know today

there's no good service, there's no church service, there's no

good sermon, there's no good music apart from you God.

And so Lord, I pray today that we recognize Lord

our need of you. Lord. Do we need your spirit

at work in us? We need your spirit at work

and your word and worship. And so Lord, may you

today lead us. May you guide us, and God, may

we listen to your voice as you speak to us today.

Father Lord, we love you. In your name. We pray, Amen,

you may be seated first as the saw must begins

Psalm sixteen. This is David. As you could see the

subscript at the very beginning, the prayer of Sorry. It

mentions David. There David is the writer of this psalm,

and David begins the psalm with with really a confession.

He confesses that the Lord is who preserves him. Listen

to the words here, preserve me, o God, for in

you I take refuge. It is the word preserve is

protect God, protect me. Lord. I need you to watch

over me, to preserve me, to keep me safe, to

be my protector. Listen, preserve me, oh God, for in

you I take refuge. He's singing, God, I need you

to protect me, to preserve me. And the reason why God,

I asked that you do that is because God, it's

you who I look to for security. The word refuge

there is the term that we see in the Old Testament.

They were called cities of refuge that were found in Israel,

and the city of refuge was when someone was in trouble,

if they had harmed someone, they could run to a

city of refuge and there they would find safety. There

they would find security, they would be safe there. David

is saying, God, when when I'm in trouble in this life,

what I run to is you, God, God, you are

my safe place. You are the place where I find security.

So God, I run to you. And because God, I'm

running you, God, may you be my protector. But then

David goes into a confession. In verse two, he says,

I say to the Lord, it's interesting. In verse two,

David uses three different names for God. The first is

l and that simply term is described as God. You

see it. In verse one, preserve me, Oh God, This

term is the most used term for God and all

the Old Testament. And he just describes very simply God,

I need you, I describe, I declare that God, I

need you to preserve me. It's interesting. This term for

God is commonly used to describe God as strong as

the mighty One, the one who has power. And he's saying, God,

I declare that God, you have the power to protect me,

to preserve me, to be my refuge. But he goes

on to that to same verse two, I say to

the Lord. The word that second word he uses to

describe the Lord here or God. He uses the term Jehovah.

Jehovah is a personal name for God, is translated as

Lord here. It is the same idea. It's the same

term that was used when Moses you remember Moses was

called out from Midian to go lead his people. And

as Moses is debating that about how am I going

to lead these people Israel who haven't seen me in

forty years and lead them out of wilderness? How will

they know that it is you who's sending me? And

he asked that. He says, he says, how will I

tell them that God you're sending? And God says to Moses,

and Moses said to God, if I come to the

people of Visual, I say to them, the God of

your fathers has sent me. And they asked me, well,

what is his name? What shall I say to them?

And God says to Moses, I am who I am.

And he said this to people of visual I am

who has sent me to you. That's the The name Jehovah

is a personal name for God. And he's saying, the

great I Am sent you Jehovah. And here he describes Lord,

you are Lord, you are my personal Lord. But then

he uses a third term to describe God, and it's

the term i Adanayah. The term Adanaiah is a name

that it comes from the root Adam, and it means master, ruler, owner, lord.

What is David saying, here, God, you mighty one, powerful God, God,

you are my personal lord. But furthermore, not only you're

my personal lord, God, you are my Listen, you're my master. Lord,

You're my lord. You are who I live my life for.

If you think about this, we we would say, David

is very simple. If you want to just read the translation,

he's verious saying. He's saying, I say to Jehovah, you

are am I ad Anayah. I said to the Lord,

you are my master. We would say, maybe commonly today

we would say, Jesus is my what Lord and Savior.

He's our master. He's the one who we surrender our

life to serve. David says, Lord, you are my lord.

You're my master. He confesses that, and then look at

what he says next. In this he says, to you,

I said to the Lord, you are am I Adanayah.

You're my master. Listen to this. I have no good

apart from you. There's no good for David. Lord, you

are my strong one, you are my personal lord. You

are my savior. And I surrendered my life to you.

Why because I realized, Lord, in all my life, there's

nothing in my life that's good apart from you, I

want to live for you. Now, if you think about

our life and as you start thinking about and we're

going to kind of walk through many many different things.

This morning. Uses a lot of good things in this world. Right,

There's a lot of good food. There's a lot of

good turkey. Some of you may have good turkey. We

had good turkey this week. There's good clothes, there's good

cars or good homes, all kinds of many good different things.

But if things are even though they're good, if they're

not used for God, that can be bad. You understand

that you could just think about it this morning. I

have an iPad here. This is what I preach from,

have my sermon on here. I use this. This is

something that does good for me. I use it to

study every week and I use it to do a

lot of research, and so it's definitely a big part

of my every day. I use this. Now, imagine if

I say, you know, this is really good, and this

is something that is good for me, and I think

it's so good, I think I'm gonna use this as

a hammer. Can you imagine if I try to use

this as a hammer, it's not going to be good.

I have some leaves in my yard, got some leaves

on the roof, and well, I say, you know what,

this is such a good thing, and it's used. You know,

I use it so many I think it'd be a

good leaf. Lord. Can you imagine me being on my

roof and blowing the leaves off with this thing? You

would say, you know, it may be good. But if

the original designer of the iPad designed it for one

thing and I try to use it for something it

was not designed to be, then suddenly it's not what good.

It's the same thing with our life. You know. The

Bible tells us that God created the sun and he

said it was good, RIGHTU was? You know? The Egyptians

worshiped the god of the Sun that called it ra.

And therefore something that God could turn to good man

turned into evil? Right? You think about our lives. We

can say our lives are good. But if we live

our life not for God, and we live it for ourselves,

then suddenly what God intended something to be good, our

life can be lived for evil and not good at all.

David says to you, to you and I today God,

I recognize in my life outside of you if I

don't live my life for you and I outlive my

life in service to you, then I recognize my life

is not good and Lord I want Lord, I recognize

today I want you to be my Lord because I

realize that in my life, if I'm not used for

what you created me for, then I'm not good and God,

I want my life to be good for you, God,

because there's nothing in my life, Lord, outside of you

that is good. You understand that this morning? I just

encourage you today. Do you as you think about as

you evaluate your life today, do you confascinate David that

Jesus you're my Lord, You're my savior, You're my master

and God I recognize today? Do you recognize as David

Lord in my life, there's no good in me. There's

no good in my life apart from a right relationship

with you. But you see, David confesses that. He declares

that in verses one and two. Don't you see, apart

from God, David just says there's no good. But then

he apart from God, David says there's no good relationships.

It's interesting he kind of you remeber. The Bible says,

and Jesus comes, someone comes to Jesus's what's the greatest commandment?

You remember what Jesus says, love the Lord, your God

with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And what's

the second thing, Love your neighbor as yourself. The second part,

for David, there's not only it's only my life is

only good if I have a relationship with the Lord.

But secondly, there's no good outside of God. But secondly,

there's no good relationships. And now David goes to the

relationship sphere, if you will. In verse three, he talks

about kind of two different relationships. He talks of relationships

with God's people. This is the way he says, as

for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,

and whom is all my delight. David is talking about

the people of God. He's talking about Israel. We know

that because he talks about the saints in the land.

We know that Israel did not become a nation of

people of God until they cross over the Jordan and

into Israel. And that's when they became Israel a nation.

So as they resided in Israel, they became God's people.

And he uses that to identify who he's talking about.

He describes them and only the saints in land as Israel.

He also describes them as the excellent ones. They are

excellent ones. And then he describes they are who I

delight in. This is who I love. I love God's people.

I tell you. For David, there's no good relationship outside

of people who are God's people, and he loves them,

he delights in them. And then he describes another group.

Who are these? These are not God's people, These are unbelievers.

These are who worship other gods. He describes in reverse

war hees as the sorry of those who run after another.

God's y'all, multiply their drink offerings of blood. I will

not pour out nor or I will take their names

on my lips. He describes people who worship other gods.

He he describes them that one their sorrows will will

will increase, So multiply. David says again he's strong upon

there's no good. So he's saying here there's there's other people.

They're not worshiping the God of Issueal. They're worshiping other gods.

And although they may perform and they may do worship,

and they may offer other sacrifices, there's no good in

their sacrifices. In turn, what they will produce is sorrow.

What the product of their worship will produce sorrow is

what he says. And then David confesses. David basically saying

I'm not gonna have any part in their worship. He

says this, He says, their drink offerings of blood, I

will not pour out. We know that at this time

there were other Psalms and Testam would show us that

at this time there were people who would worship other gods.

They would pour out blood upon other gods. And David

is saying, I won't do that. I'm not going to

take part of that. I will not pour out. We

know that at this time there were those who would

sacrifice their sons to demons. They would shed innocent blood

on others for their gods. And David says, I will

not pour out. I will not take part of that.

He not only says he will not part take part

in their worship. He he says he will not even

take the names of their god on these lips, listen

to the last week, or take their names on my lips.

David is saying here that I will not take part

of any worship that's contrary to the worship of the

God alone, because there's only one good God. There's no

good apart from God. There's no good worship apart from

worshiping the true God. And I will not take part

of the worship. And I will not even take part

of the worship on my lips. David is saying, what

do I worship? What do I enjoy? What do I love?

What is good is the worship of God's people. In

any worship outside of that is not good. I remember

in college I was most of you know if you

heard my testimon before I was seventeen when I was

called into ministry, and after high school I went it

straight to North Greenwell University to be a Christian studies major.

I knew at seventeen I was going to be a pastor.

So when I went to school, I was what I

was studying for a Christian studies major, and so I

was really trying to live my life of the Lord

I had. God blessed me with a lot of good

roommates who didn't love God, and I was thankful for that.

I do remember a time that some of my roommates

were kind of drifting away from the Lord and were

not quite where they needed to be. And actually I

didn't know it. I didn't know that they were drinking,

and they were partying and some different things that they

were doing. Again, we're roommates. I just I didn't know it.

They were kind of hiding it from me. About six

months went by and again I didn't know it. In

one of my rooms, came up to me and very

broken and he told me. He said, Jonathan, you didn't

know it. But he says, God's doing work on my heart.

And he says, you didn't know it. But me and

one of the other roommates, we've not been living for

the Lord. We've kind of went astray. We've been partying,

we've been doing different things that we've been doing it

behind your back. And I remember, to be honest with you,

when he told me that, I was really upset. I

was really broken over that. And one of the reasons

why is because they hid it from me. They didn't

feel like they could tell me what they were battling.

But I realized that later on Listen. They recognized for

me that I was not something that I was going

to take part of, that was not something that I

would approve of or I have any part of. And

so therefore they hit it from me because they knew, listen,

what I stood for, and they knew I wanted to

live for God, and I wasn't going to take part

of any of those things. That's the imagery in this

passage here David is saying, listen, I love God's people,

I love the Church, and I know there's good in

the fellowship of the Church and things outside of that,

things that this world has to offer. There's wickedness in

this world, and I'm not gonna take part of that.

And they know that I won't even take these things

upon my lips. They know that I won't even take

part of those practices. And I'll ask you today, there's

a lot of good things in this life, but there's

a lot of evil things in this life. And do

you recognize in your life there's some things that may

be good and there's some things that are not good.

And in my life, and I recognize that there's a

lot of people doing a lot of different things, but

there's some things that I don't need in my life.

This world may tell me they're good, but I know

that there's no good apart from God. And there's means

that there's things in my life that I'm gonna stay from.

I'm not gonna take parting. Others may call it good,

I'm not gonna take part of it, and I won't

even have it on my lips. I'll ask you today,

just think about in your life, what what are those

things you when people's sin openly around you? Does it

make you feel uncomfortable? Does when people have values that

are outside of God's word? Does it shock you? Or

are you at ease with them? Are you ease with

the sin of others? Or you like David, I'm not

going to be a part of that, and I am

not going to be part of those things. I'm not

even going to have those things on my lips. I

think it impacts what we look at. Is impacts what

we do, It impacts what we say, It impacts who

we're around, and we must be willing to say that.

I understand there's no good outside of God, but there's

no good relationships outside of God. And I need to

make sure my relationships are Godly relationships I can have,

I can have a good but there's some relationships I

may have to distance myself from if it's outside of

God and they're doing things that are not what aligns

with the word of God. I want you to see.

Also in this passage scripture, he says there's no good

there's no good relationships. Thirdly, David says there's no good

possessions in verse five and six. So that's the way

he says. The Lord is my chosen portion, in my cup,

you hold my lot. The lines have followed me in pleasant, pleasant,

pleasant places. Indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. It's interesting

here you see someone who David is describing those who

are of the world, who are worshiping the things of

the world, and he's saying, listen, their sorrows will multiply.

And then David describes what his life and what are

the important things in his life, and what are the

important things in this life for David the Lord. This

is the imagery of this passage of scripture. David uses

kind of three descriptions of things that he possesses. He

says in verse one, I mean five, uh, my chosen portion,

my cup, and my lot. To use just three descriptions

of things that David possesses. If you look at the

word portion, there that that term could be used as

one's estate, one's home, one's land, or one's inheritance. David

uses the next term as cup, and so we we

we would understand. Uh, it could be land, but it

also could be food, daily portion of food, or a ration,

if you will. So since he mentions cup next, we

understand David's probably talking about food. So David says, Lord,

you've you've given me my daily food, my daily what

I need to survive. You can think of the prayer

we studied just a few months ago, the Lord's prayer Lord,

and we asked Lord that the Lord would give us

our daily bread. Right, that's the imagery here, Lord, you

were you give me my daily bread. The second piece

there is, Lord, you are my my cup. Look at

that you hold my lot. The term lot. There is

a plot of land. If you remember, when Israel went

into the Promised Land, they were giving everyone was given

a portion of land in the Promised Land. Every tribe

would give a certain allotment of land. And David is

drawing upon that, God, you've given me my daily food

what I need to survive. But God, you've given me

my home. You've given me where I live You've given

me the lot in which I lived. And then he

talks about the boundary lines for me have fallen in

pleasant places. There in verse six, the lines have followed

me in pleasant places. Indeed have a beautiful inheritance. Again

that gives the imagery of this boundary. God, you've given

the boundaries of the things that I need. Ord, You've

given those to me. But listen to the passage of Scripture.

Look at verse five. The Lord is my daily portion. Lord,

you are the bread in which I live. By God,

you are the cup that satisfies me daily. God, you

are my lot. Not the home that I have, not

the land that I have. God, you are my home. Lord,

you are my inheritance. It's not the good things, is

not the turkey. The good things. Is not how nice

a car that I have, or how nice my home is.

My hope for my future is not in what I

might gain in the future. For David, David says, Lord you, Lord,

you are my portion. You are my cup. You are

my inheritance. Lord, you are my lot, God, my hope,

my goodness. The good in my life is is you. Lord.

You are the good possession in me. I want you

think about just something. As we come to Christmas. You

got your Christmas list made out already, it's getting that time.

Some of you may be already working on that. If

you thought about your Christmas list, think about it for

a minute. What is that position you asked for. Maybe

it's a new car you poke that spouse besides you, right,

Maybe it's something for the yard leaf blower I've had

doesn't work too good. Maybe it's something for the house,

maybe some clothes. Maybe it's new tech, phone, headphones, computer,

what maybe some new toy plate, PS five something. Now

think about it as you think about your Christmas list,

which you've got planned. What's something you really want now

this Christmas? What is the one thing if you don't

get you'll be disappointed in I really really want this

tech or this leaf blower or this whatever for the house.

If you think about that for a moment. Now compare

that one thing to Jesus. If you didn't get that

one thing, would you survive? Yes you would. But if

you didn't have Jesus, what would your life be? I

tell you that because many times, as we even as

we come to Christmas, we make Christmas all about the

possessions of this world that really without the Lord are

not good. We can go through a whole Christmas season

and really never cherish our Savior and our Lord when

he is really should be. Lord. You're my portion. You're

really what I want this Christmas. Lord, You're really what

I need daily. Lord, You're really what my future holds

is what you have from me. Nothing else in this

world is good. No future that I have is outside

of what you could provide for me. God, Lord, you

are my portion today as the Lord you're is the Lord,

your greatest possession. For David, there's no apart from God.

There's no good and there's no good relationship. There's no

good possessions. Lastly, I mean fourth here, not lastly. We've

got one more after this one. There's no good counsel,

David says. David says in verse seven and eight. Listen

to what he says. I bless the Lord who gives

me counsel in the night, who also instruct my heart,

instructs me. I've set the Lord always before me, because

he's at my right hand. I shall not be shaken

for David. David was king right. David, he made decisions

daily that we're not only going to be decision that

will maybe impact his family or for a direction. But

David made decisions as king that would impact the direction

of the entire nation of Israel. David says, here, as

I'm looking to make decisions for the future of my family,

but also the future of this nation, Lord, I need

to make the right decision. And when I look to

make decisions, Lord, I I look to you to give

me counsel. Where I recognize there's no good wisdom, there's

no good counsel outside of you. That word counsel is

the idea of someone given instructions or wisdom and helping

make someone make decisions. And David says, I bless the

Lord who gives me counsel. He says, the Lord gives

him counsel in the night he instructs his heart. The

heart is the place in which we are decisions derive from.

And David says, Lord, not only I want to have

the right intellectual understanding for what's best for the decision,

but God, I want you to guide my heart and

what's right. Not just my mind, guide my heart. But

for David, where was the source of wisdom? Where's this

source of instruction? For David it's the Lord. It's interesting

today we live in such a technological era that people

are finding instructions and wisdom and counsel and all kinds

of different things. One of the most prevalent things that

are moving from our younger generations is TikTok. TikTok is

you know, social media craze and people are finding are

getting counsel from TikTok. I did a study, and there's

a study that showed that. I'm just going to give

you the top five. There top ten things that people

that jumpy or different people are finding subjects. The most

desired subjects on TikTok people. What people desire to learn

on TikTok. Number one was English. Learning how to speak

English was the number one. Number two personal finances, that

was what people go to TikTok to learn. Number three history,

people go to TikTok to learn history. Fourth was biology,

and the last subject was government. I tell you that

to think about it. Just think about that for a second.

Why I'm just described to you people are looking for direction, counsel, wisdom,

instruction to learn something from TikTok. And I say that

jokingly because it shows you how we will search for

wisdom from TikTok to the old cyclopedias that were at

Grandma's house. You remember the cyclopedias back in the day.

We go to all kinds of different places to look

for wisdom. Right, But in your life today, just think

about today. Every one of you come into this room

with the decision that you're looking to make in your life.

It could be as simple as what car you're going

to buy, to something that's order you leading me to

a job change, or how to handle a relationship and

that decision that you're struggling with, wrestling with As you

come to this room, where are you looking for counsel?

In that David says for me, is I make decisions

that's going to impact my family, pack the nation. I

look to the Lord for wisdom. I look to him

for counsel. Today you're wrestling with decisions. Are you looking

to the Lord the decision that's on your heart today?

Have you prayed about it? Have you looked to the

Lord in prayer about God? What would you have me

do here? Have you looked to the Lord and studied

his word the Bible? God gave us his whole word

here to instruct us and how we are to live

our life the decision we make. Have you went to

God's word about the decisions you're making today? Imagine that

many of you can go many different Maybe call someone,

look to different places to find answers for your decision,

wisdom for your decision. For David says, there's no good

counsel outside of you, God, Lord, instruct me. Maybe that's

to you today, Lord, I need you. I recognize there's

no good counsel outside of you. Lord, I look to

you for a counsel. Lastly, David describes, apart from God,

there is no good There's no good relationship, there's a

good possessions, there are no good counsel. And lastly, David describes,

there's no good future. Listen to what God's word says

in verse nine. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my

whole being rejoices. My flesh also dwells secure, for you

will not abandon my soul to shield, nor let your

holy one see corruption. You make known to me the

path of life, and in your presence there is fullness

of joy. At your right hand, there are pleasures forevermore.

You know the passage begin David asking the Lord to

preserve him, to protect him. In the end of the passage,

David declares, Lord, my heart is glad, and listen to

what he described, and my whole being rejoices. Why because

my flesh is secure, David says in the end, I'm secure.

Why is he secure? Listen to what he says in

verse ten. For you, this mighty God is per God,

this one who is his master. For you will not

abandon my soul to shield. You're not abandoned my soul

to hell. Is the is the understanding. But not only

will you not abandon me to hell, but also or

you let your Holy One see corruption? The word corruption

is the idea of decay. If you think about someone's body,

their body is, you know, taking to the funeral home,

and then it's put into a casket, and then it's

put in the graveyard, and in the in the grave,

that body decays. David says, I am secure. I'm secure

in that. God, you want to abandon me to hell.

But God, I'm so secured that God, you're not even letting.

You won't even let my body decay. Now, if you

think about that for just a second, naturally, today David's

body did decay so so what did Dave have hope in?

David had hope in one Now think about this second.

You and I sitting in this room today, we see

all the Christmas trees. We know Christmas is coming. We

know Christmas represents Jesus, who was born in a manger,

who would die on the cross and raise again on

the third day. And we know that Jesus did just

what we Scripture tells us that he came, he lived,

he died, he rose again. Jesus's body was in the

grave hello three days. And because his body was in

the grave for three days, listen, his body did not decay.

Who is David talking about here? He's talking about Jesus.

He's talking about the power of Christ's resurrection. It's a

Messianic psalm promising that there is a king that's coming,

and it is a king, David declares, But there's another

king coming and his name is King Jesus. And King

Jesus will live and die and raise again. And God

would not abandoned his soul to she oh, and God

would not allow his body to decay. And Paul talks

declares that Psalm sixteen is talking about Jesus and acts two.

So we know this is a messianic psalm that he's

prophesying about the Messiah that's to come. The Kingdom was come,

who would die and resurrect again. The amazing thing about

this passage is you and I know that we see

that we understand that conceptually, we conceptually understand that there

was one who came to lived and died and rose again.

But you also understand when David is saying this passage,

he doesn't know about Jesus yet four hundred years previous.

Even more than that is when David writes this psalm.

But David has hope. Listen to this. He has hope

in the future, even though he's never seen the resurrection.

He believes that God is so good to him. Listen

to this, that God is so good, that God is

so good, and that God's given him on God's people,

that he delights in. God is so good, that God

is his portion. God is so good, that God gives

him wisdom and the because of God is so good.

He knows that he has a good future, that God

will not abandon him to hell. And in God, in

some way, David doesn't even understand God will resurrect him

one day, and he doesn't even know that Jesus would

one day resurrect. Can I ask you today for David?

David knew that there is only there's only good future

that's ahead is a future in the Lord. The only future,

the only good future for my death one day or

my eternity one day is the Lord. I ask you today,

Do you know that? Do you believe that? Do you

trust in that? Do you have that hope that David had?

Even the old Lord, I don't understand it, even though

I don't see it, even though you've never too, like

David has never seen, there is a Lord. You believe

by faith that just as God is good today to you,

that He will be good to you in the future

in your eternity. I heard the story of a missionary.

He was working in a foreign country and he's working

with Indians. And as he was ministering there, there was

a chief, an older chief there, and he was trying

to share the gospel with him. And one day he

shared the Gospel with this Indian chief and he says

that Jesus is the road is a good road. And

the chief agreed, and he says, but I have followed

the Indian road all my life, and I cannot change now.

A year later, the old chief got sick and was dying.

The missionary rushed to where there he was and standing

beside him that day he told him of Christ again

and pleaded with him to come to the Lord. And

this is what the chief said to him that day.

He said, I can't turn to Jesus now. The dying

chief said, my own road stops here, and I have

no way through the valley. You know, the reality is

that chief thought that his way was a good way,

but he realizes that at the end it was not

going to lead to a future. You know, there's many

different roads that you and I could live on. You

can live on the religion, I mean, live on the

road of a false religion. You can live your life

of fame and think that I can be good and

I can find happiness in this life, a good life

in this life. Through fame. You can say I can

find a good life through wealth and accumulating things of

this world. You can say I can find a good

life through success. But in the end those roads will

lead to death. There's no future in fame. There's no

future in success. There's no future in eternity for false religion.

Only Christ can give you a future in heaven. I

ask you today, have you trusted in Him like David?

Have you said, God Mighty One, you are my personal

Lord and Lord, I want you to be my master.

I want you to be a lord of my life. Lord.

I recognize today there's no good and this life apart

from you, God. There's no good relationships apart from a

relationship with You and your people. Help me love others

like you've loved me. Help me avoid the others who

are not living according to your word. There's no good

possessions outside of you, God, and only you are the

good thing in this life. Lord, I want you to

be my portion. Lord. There's there's no good wisdom outside

of you God. Lord, I need your counsel and Lord. Today,

I recognize there's no future in eternity without you, God.

I want to trust you for salvation. Would you pray

with me? Everybody, every eye close. Lord, Today, we thank

you Lord that, as the Psalmist declares, Lord, there's no

good apart from you. Lord. Some heed times. Lord. This

world pulls at us, It tries us to find goodness

in the things of this world. Lord, I pray today

that we'd recognize, Lord, there's no good outside of you.

May we align our heart, says the with David, that

we can fast. Lord, you as our God, You as

our personal Lord, our personal savior, our master and God.

May we want to surrender our life. Lord, do you Lord?

May we not find goodness in the possessions of this

world God, when you find our goodness in you. Lord. Today, Lord,

I pray you lead us today. I pray for how

you're moving in the hearts of people today. I pray

that they would be those who would Lord respond, Lord

of your word. Lord, we love you. Lor. I pray

if there's someone here today that's never accepted you as

Lord and Savior, have never put their faith in you

for salvation, I pray today, Lord, they would recognize that

there's no hope in eternity without you, there's no good

future without you in eternity. Their only hope is to

trust in Yours, in your Savior, and that Lord, your

son came and lived and died on the cross, that

they might find forgiveness of sin an the eternal life

in you Jesus. So Lord, I pray there'd be those

who would admit that today, that believe that today, and

what can fasten you as Lord and savior today? Lord,

lead us now in this time invitation. Some need to

come to this alter and pray. I pray you lead

them to do that. Some need to pray about some

relationships that maybe they need to change. Lord. I pray

that Lord, you lead them to do that. Lord, I

pray they'd be those who would say, Lord, there's some

possessions Lord that I'm Lord, I love more than you

right now, and God, I want to I want you.

I want to love you more than I love anything

in this world. Lord, I pray, Lord, however you lead

people today, I pray they respond to you right now

in this time. Lord, we love you. We thank you

Lord for your word and your name. We pray. Amen,
