  4. It says this then they sail to the

  5. country

  6. of the gu.

  7. Which is opposite

  8. Galilee.

  9. When Jesus had stepped out on land,

  10. there met him a man from the city

  11. who had demons.

  12. For a long time, he had worn no

  13. clothes, and he not lived in the house,

  14. but among the tombs.

  15. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and

  16. he fell down before him and said with

  17. a loud voice what have you to do

  18. with me, Jesus,

  19. son of are the most high God.

  20. I beg you.

  21. Do not torment me. For he had commanded

  22. the uncle clean spirit to come out of

  23. the man for, many a time and it

  24. seized him and he was kept under guard

  25. bound with the chains and shackles, but he

  26. would break the bonds and be driven by

  27. the demon into the desert. Jesus then asked

  28. him. What is your name?

  29. And he said legion for many demons that

  30. entered him. And they begged him not to

  31. command them to depart into the abyss, now

  32. a large herd of pigs was feeding there

  33. on the hillside, and they begged him to

  34. let them enter these, so he gave them

  35. permission, then the demons came out of the

  36. man entered the pigs and the herd rushed

  37. down the Steep bank and into the lake

  38. in drowned.

  39. When the herd saw what had happened,

  40. they fled and told it in the city,

  41. and in the country, then people went out

  42. to see what had happened, and they came

  43. to Jesus and found a man who, from

  44. whom the demons had gone, sitting at the

  45. feet of Jesus cloth in his right mind,

  46. and they were afraid.

  47. When those who had seen it told them

  48. how the demon possessed man had been healed,

  49. than all the people of the surrounding country

  50. of the ga scenes asked him to depart

  51. from them for they were seized with great

  52. fear. So he got into the boat And

  53. he returned the man from whom the demons

  54. had gone begged that he may be with

  55. him and Jesus sent him away saying returned

  56. to your home.

  57. And declare how much God has done for

  58. you, and he went away proclaiming throughout the

  59. whole city, how much Jesus had done for

  60. him.

  61. Now when Jesus returned,

  62. they... The crowd welcomed him for they were

  63. all waiting for him, and they came... And

  64. there came a man named G, who was

  65. a rule of the synagogue and falling at

  66. Jesus feet implore him to come to his

  67. house.

  68. For he had an older daughter about 12

  69. years of age who was dying,

  70. and Jesus went, and Jesus went and the

  71. people pressed around him, and there was a

  72. man who had a dish... Or a woman

  73. who had a discharge of blood for 12

  74. years. And though she had spent all of

  75. her living on physician, she could not be

  76. healed by anyone.

  77. She came up behind them and touched the

  78. fringe of his garment and immediately or discharge

  79. of blood ceased.

  80. And Jesus said who was at the touch

  81. me when all denied it Peter's said master

  82. or the crowds

  83. surround you and are pressing in on me,

  84. but Jesus said someone touched me for I

  85. perceived, the power has gone out from me

  86. And when the woman saw that she was

  87. not hidden, she came trembling and falling down

  88. before him declaring in the presence of all

  89. why she had touched him and shall... How

  90. she had been immediately healed,

  91. and he said to her daughter, your faith

  92. has made you well go in peace.

  93. While he was still speaking, someone from the

  94. rulers house came and said your daughter his

  95. dad, do not trouble the teacher anymore? But

  96. Jesus on hearing this answered him, do not

  97. fear only believe and she will be well.

  98. And we came to the house. He allowed

  99. no 1 to enter with him, except Peter,

  100. in John, and James and the father and

  101. mother of the child and all weeping and

  102. mourning for her, but she said... But he

  103. said do not weep for she is not

  104. dead but sleeping.

  105. And they laughed at him, knowing that she

  106. was dead. But taking her by the hand,

  107. he called... He called saying child arise and

  108. her spirit returned,

  109. and she got up at once, and he

  110. directed that someone should be given... Something should

  111. be given to her to eat and her

  112. parents were amazed. But he charged them to

  113. tell no 1 what had happened. This is

  114. the word or the lord. If father the

  115. asked that you would meet us with your

  116. word.

  117. Now you promised that it doesn't return avoid

  118. that it does work that it soften or

  119. harden it's always working and moving. So we

  120. ask. That you would make it no different

  121. today even in a text that's difficult than

  122. 1 that we don't want to think about

  123. with a with topics like demon possession and

  124. it got, but john near us.

  125. Let us see the beauty of Jesus. Let

  126. her see that he has the keys to

  127. to all him and maybe come to him

  128. for that. We pray that in and your

  129. name Meet us here. Lord. Newman amen?

  130. So I don't generally give out a sermon

  131. title,

  132. while preaching a message. Yeah. I'll cut the

  133. podcast later and try and figure out something

  134. cool to type in

  135. but I don't normally give 1 out during

  136. the preaching

  137. of the text, but I'm gonna, kinda break

  138. that habit or unwritten rule for me today.

  139. This message

  140. is titled, and we're we're we're gonna just

  141. reveal our cards. And nothing will be hidden

  142. close to the chest,

  143. just come to Jesus.

  144. No matter who you are, what you need,

  145. how far gone you think things are, where

  146. your head space is at. What's going on?

  147. It doesn't matter just come to him.

  148. He's not a genie in a bottle.

  149. Me don't get to come and rub the

  150. lamp and get the 3 coolest wishes that

  151. you think would make your life better,

  152. but

  153. there's literally nothing

  154. too big for him to deal with that

  155. that you do need.

  156. For those who have years, let them here

  157. in light of the text that we have

  158. been preaching as of late. And but I

  159. I just ask you to to consider. It's

  160. July 20 first. I don't know what your

  161. plans are, Some of you went watch fireworks

  162. last night. I don't know what you've been

  163. doing or what you've got planned later. But

  164. before the message

  165. starts going,

  166. have you considered, is there something that you

  167. need to go to Jesus 4? Something weighing

  168. on

  169. your heart something that you've been wrestling with

  170. in the back corners of your mind or

  171. maybe in a Dna group or C, is

  172. there something that you need to come to

  173. him for?

  174. A sin pattern that you just can't get

  175. out of

  176. struggling to believe that Jesus really is

  177. enough in life at the moment? Are are

  178. you struggling with faithfulness

  179. or

  180. steadfast

  181. or

  182. being a hard 1 for us, contentment.

  183. Is bitterness or Mel colleague or

  184. ind or apa,

  185. just kind of got you.

  186. And you know that you've been stuck and

  187. you've been trying to get out of it,

  188. and you don't really know how... And and

  189. you're not sure how deal it. I just

  190. ask you to consider before even get into

  191. the depths of the text? Have you considered

  192. going to Jesus as a remedy for that?

  193. And maybe the always year it would be

  194. leading you towards that today. Hey, there's a

  195. ocean of freedom with King Jesus.

  196. Has it been considered.

  197. Luke is on a mission

  198. to present to us in

  199. this part of the gospel which just the

  200. the fullness of the

  201. salvation of Christ. And we discussed it heavily

  202. in the text last week,

  203. and we're gonna add some nuance to that

  204. in the text today, hoping to bring interview

  205. this kind of simple concept, you cannot,

  206. see the fullness of salvation

  207. without simultaneously

  208. considering the fullness of the power of King

  209. jesus to bring about said,

  210. salvation.

  211. Put differently. We cannot truly consider the miracle

  212. of salvation without considering the miracle

  213. worker.

  214. And his power

  215. that is beyond the power of anything else,

  216. the 1 who pulls it off.

  217. His salvation is truly the transfer of a

  218. soul from death to life. If if if

  219. that's real,

  220. if salvation is the taking of the heart

  221. of of stone, it's hard and un

  222. and turning it into a heart of flesh.

  223. If it's transferring a person, from their realm

  224. realm of darkness into the realm of light,

  225. not only just their their inheritance, but their

  226. very nature out of darkness and the light.

  227. If it's really that big of a deal.

  228. How powerful is the 1 who accomplishes

  229. that.

  230. How mighty is the 1 who does what

  231. no 1 else could do?

  232. This is what Luke is pressing on us

  233. to see Is a really big deal.

  234. And the power

  235. of Jesus to accomplish

  236. salvation is huge. Oh that we would believe

  237. it that it's huge.

  238. We saw last week

  239. the forces of nature, all the forces that

  240. they can master, they sit down when Jesus

  241. says

  242. sit now. A storm rage, the disciples thought

  243. they're going to die. They run to Jesus.

  244. We're gonna we're gonna die and Jesus says

  245. something to the effect of peace b still

  246. and the waves submitted. They didn't just calm

  247. down a couple knots. It didn't just chill

  248. out a little bit. All of a sudden,

  249. it went from chaos. We're going to die

  250. massive,

  251. massive storm to done,

  252. left the disciples asking a question who is

  253. this?

  254. They are wrestling with all and wonder. What

  255. kind of man, what kind of being, what

  256. kind of person can can do this. What

  257. kind of man can make the very forces

  258. of nature bow down with with a word.

  259. And what's interesting is the text just ends

  260. with that question. Who is this?

  261. And it ends that way for us to

  262. consider that in our own lives. But the...

  263. Notice the disciples don't answer the question of

  264. who is this. It just sits there. But

  265. today in the text, that question gets picked

  266. back up and it gets answered by a

  267. person that you're probably going to be a

  268. little bit surprised

  269. about

  270. There's an important lead in concept I wanna

  271. push us

  272. to to see before we get going. The

  273. disciples in the text last week. They panicked

  274. in fear of the storm,

  275. completely lost it. They did not even consider

  276. Jesus because of their fear, of the storm

  277. in the incident. Their faith was completely

  278. neutralized and short circuit. They went from from

  279. high faith big faith. Jesus will follow you

  280. to the end of the world We're gonna

  281. die, no faith at all, and Jesus asks

  282. them the question where is your faith because

  283. of it?

  284. That question in return to them was not

  285. meant to be a a soul crushing slam

  286. as much as a invitation into

  287. future faith.

  288. He's asking them

  289. to consider not so easily casting aside their

  290. faith next time a fear comes.

  291. Where a store comes where a trial comes.

  292. And and there's some beauty in this if

  293. we think about.

  294. And Jesus and his patience in his kindness

  295. towards his followers,

  296. is a big deal. He is quick to

  297. give them a second chance.

  298. Even after the epic screw up, the the

  299. disciples again, they go from full faith to

  300. to no faith in Jesus doesn't bench them.

  301. He doesn't fire them. He he doesn't tar

  302. feather them or dis them. He heads them

  303. straight to the shore.

  304. To try again.

  305. They go from an encounter with a dark

  306. and powerful storm

  307. to an encounter with a dark and evil

  308. force a demon civilized man immediately after.

  309. I don't know about you, but I find

  310. that troubling and encouraging at the same time.

  311. Troubling because they thought of going from 1

  312. epic scary thing,

  313. followed by another, makes me go like, what

  314. if I fail with that 1 too? Like,

  315. oh too bad,

  316. but it also is a bit encouraging.

  317. Hear me. Because

  318. if we would be honest, I'll I'll I'll

  319. I'll say it from my perspective, but

  320. it's encouraging because I know what it likes

  321. to what it's like to feel like a

  322. disappointment.

  323. I know what it's like to feel like

  324. I've dropped the ball in front of Jesus.

  325. I know what it's like to have a

  326. big moment

  327. in realize I met it with complete un

  328. unbelievable.

  329. Right? To to fall on my face unequivocally,

  330. which is exactly how the disciples felt this

  331. stay. And yet, Jesus gave them another chance

  332. to get back up, believe and have faith.

  333. That gives me hope that it'll do the

  334. same for you and me. Yes, there's days

  335. when we will fall short,

  336. And yet when we do,

  337. there's another moment.

  338. Until Jesus returns, there's always another moment to

  339. have faith.

  340. King Jesus is not only powerful, but he's

  341. kind and gentle, and you're gonna fall, and

  342. I'm gonna fall and he's still gonna give

  343. you another chance to get back up and

  344. believe and get back up and believe and

  345. that's a profound goodness. Because because what do

  346. we do? We normally go... Man I fail

  347. too big that time. I don't get another

  348. chance.

  349. Takes them to the shore. Immediately, they get

  350. another 1.

  351. Immediately, after the storm, they found themselves on

  352. the on the coast of the ge scenes,

  353. and there's no buffer, no decompression, no week

  354. off. And as soon as they get off

  355. of the the the boat. Right? They've literally

  356. crossed the other side, storm, Jesus calms that

  357. they get off right there. In and they

  358. get met by a man possessed by demons.

  359. He meets Jesus as he gets off the

  360. boat.

  361. In the demons inside of him start yelling

  362. out and loud

  363. voice, what do you want with me?

  364. Jesus son of the most high God.

  365. My god. That... That's

  366. a somewhat of an interesting greeting when you

  367. hit the shore.

  368. There was an answer to that question that

  369. we mentioned earlier. Remember, again, the their disciples

  370. to ask who is this man

  371. The demons answer with no hesitation.

  372. Jesus is the son of the most high

  373. God.

  374. Their answer is interesting and a little bit

  375. of a weird overstate at the same time.

  376. It's interesting because if you if we if

  377. we study cultures and civilizations throughout all of

  378. history,

  379. most of them are going to be poly.

  380. They believe in many gods and they create

  381. many gods and worship many gods, but even

  382. though they have kind of a pant of

  383. different gods,

  384. in culture that they observe, there's always this

  385. 1 high God.

  386. He's the strong 1. He's the the big

  387. 1,

  388. even the demons who are evil and powerful

  389. no.

  390. They're standing before, not some demi god.

  391. This is not zeus or Hercules or some

  392. other thing. They're standing in front of not

  393. even another powerful spirit like them, they're standing

  394. in front of the God the most high

  395. God.

  396. Now, the statements are a little bit weird

  397. as well because

  398. If there is,

  399. I'm I'm not so good with grammar all

  400. the time you can tell. And if you've

  401. ever read my transcript, you'd really be able

  402. to tell.

  403. But if you say the high God,

  404. like, you've already hit the Apex. High is

  405. like Uno top.

  406. That's as high as you can get. So

  407. it's a bit of an overstate to say

  408. the the most High god. You've you've already

  409. got High God. Top God. Most High God

  410. is a big overstate

  411. But that's kind of the point.

  412. The demons even know that they're are in

  413. front of the alpha and omega,

  414. not just a power

  415. the all powerful god man is in front

  416. of them.

  417. Now hear this. Well, humanity still wrestle. Where

  418. the verdict is is out. I'm still trying

  419. to decide. I'm just just trying to kinda

  420. figure out who this Jesus is. We're always

  421. trying to figure out who Jesus is? Will

  422. we believe in him? Will we submit him

  423. in our day to day lives in the

  424. here and now what we need to understand

  425. is is any of our

  426. belief does not change the fact it does

  427. not move the needle at all. It give

  428. him power or take it away. That Jesus

  429. is the most powerful that there is. He

  430. is the God man.

  431. This is why the demons

  432. beg him,

  433. do not torment me.

  434. We probably should do a little bit of

  435. of groundwork here. Alright? We're not gonna get

  436. into a whole theology of demon.

  437. Here's a ground level to try and wrap

  438. minds around some of it though. The bible

  439. talks about the concept of a tri God.

  440. That is,

  441. God in 3 persons, 1 God in 3

  442. persons.

  443. The father,

  444. God, the son, God, the holy spirit and

  445. God created

  446. everything that we see. Nothing was created outside

  447. of the tri God. So God created the

  448. earth

  449. and human in animals and heavenly beings, including

  450. angels.

  451. And at some point, some of the angels

  452. rebelled against God. They wanted to be more

  453. powerful than God.

  454. In a moment just like Adam and Eve,

  455. it in the garden, all of a sudden

  456. they begin to doubt God's goodness. I could

  457. do better on my own. God's trying to

  458. hold me back. IIII

  459. wanna overthrow him. I wanna do my own

  460. thing.

  461. We learn in a not so detailed account.

  462. That when the angels did this, God cast

  463. the angelic beings who tried to rebel against

  464. him down to earth out of heaven and

  465. down to earth.

  466. Of these, the the lead of these angels

  467. was what we call Satan nor the devil,

  468. and the other ones are what we know

  469. as demons.

  470. And they are now warring against God. The

  471. Bible says they're pro around, like, a roaring

  472. line, looking for people to devour

  473. in destroy. They were in heaven, decided to

  474. try and get over overthrow god. God throws

  475. them down. He gives him a point of

  476. power on earth for a time before they're

  477. going to be destroyed forever, while they're here

  478. on earth, they're trying to destroy and wreck

  479. shop in whatever way that they can.

  480. Now the logic, we've been talking about the

  481. Day several times in the last Sermon.

  482. God created humans in the Ama day.

  483. Meaning he made humans not to be little

  484. gods, but he made us to reflect his

  485. nature in what he is like. So we're

  486. meant to live in union with God, worshiping

  487. God, finding our meaning in God and the

  488. reflecting his character back to the world around

  489. him.

  490. So the demons now try and possess humans

  491. to take them over as a way to

  492. try and,

  493. destroy the yam ama day in them. This

  494. is a indirect war at god through humans.

  495. So demons will try and possess people,

  496. and do often awful things to them, pressing

  497. humans to the point of despair,

  498. unimaginable sin in broken. And this is exactly

  499. what they run

  500. into here. Alright. Like, are are we tracking

  501. all of a sudden, the the demons are

  502. war with God? I'm gonna try and crush

  503. even the very image of God in these

  504. humans by destroying them. This is the war,

  505. this man now lived naked

  506. with no home,

  507. and he's wandering around

  508. grave tombs because of the demon immunization.

  509. We need to see, and I I know

  510. this is uncomfortable to talk about. We could

  511. have other discussions later if you want about

  512. if you've seen it if you have it,

  513. and why don't we see it all time?

  514. We we could do that another time, But

  515. but we need to understand of this man

  516. right now is he's not just in mental

  517. crisis.

  518. Dude didn't just lose his marble.

  519. This is a man who demons have taken

  520. over,

  521. and now they have driven him to this

  522. horrible spot. He was uncontrollable.

  523. He was dangerous.

  524. He was more wild than he was man

  525. running around naked, un contempt ill,

  526. and it was a result.

  527. Everyone was against him and staying away from

  528. him.

  529. Think about this guy's position.

  530. He's d,

  531. animal,

  532. marginalized and both frightened and fearful at the

  533. same time.

  534. This is utter misery.

  535. We hear that for a time the people

  536. in the town tried to seize him. But

  537. I got 1 part. He's a part of

  538. the culture. He had a family. He had

  539. he he had AAA

  540. beginning to his life and and people were

  541. trying to bind him trying get it fixed,

  542. trying to rest sustain him from doing evil.

  543. And when they bind him and lock him

  544. up and try and guard him, the the

  545. the

  546. would would literally break free.

  547. His strength seemed un human

  548. just like this new way of life, then

  549. the demons would drive him into the desert

  550. every time they try and strain him. Was

  551. try and fix this. He'd break out and

  552. he'd run into the desert where he'd roam,

  553. naked it among the tombs and despair.

  554. Again, what we're meant to see is this

  555. man is now acting more like a while

  556. animal than a human being.

  557. Again, the yam ama day you're supposed to

  558. reflect the character of god and this guy

  559. is reflecting more of a wild animal and

  560. a wild beast.

  561. The question may have been asked from anybody

  562. you've seen him or knew him or heard

  563. of his story, and we get other accounts

  564. that he was very, well known and people

  565. literally avoid the the area because of him,

  566. The question may have been asked is there

  567. any yam ama day left in there.

  568. Is there any glimpse? Any reflection is he

  569. beyond saving, Is he too shattered? Or does

  570. he too messed up as is he beyond

  571. hope?

  572. And at that point, Jesus shows up and

  573. the pneumonia ends up in front. Of him.

  574. This is a massive

  575. confrontation.

  576. Again, the demons are trying to devour and

  577. destroy the chief of man's creation to to

  578. stamp out any hint of the divine likeness

  579. in man. It's a full on assault on

  580. God through the assault on the man. So

  581. the demons are trying to crush the image

  582. of God in this man, then all of

  583. a sudden, God shows up the 1 who's

  584. created the man.

  585. This is a big moment.

  586. What I find amazing

  587. is if this was a war movie all

  588. a sudden there'd be this epic clash in

  589. this epic battle,

  590. the demons didn't talk any messages at Jesus,

  591. they didn't try and stand off with him.

  592. They without hesitation.

  593. Just began to beg Jesus,

  594. not to torment them.

  595. Whereas the disciples in in our

  596. beliefs can wax and wan The demons belief

  597. in Jesus in his power did not wax

  598. and wayne for even a second. They knew

  599. his power.

  600. In hear this, they're the power of king

  601. Jesus terrified them to the point of grove.

  602. If nothing else maybe today may that be

  603. a reminder to us that darkness shutters of

  604. the name and presence of Jesus.

  605. Our king isn't to be tri with. He

  606. cannot be over overpowered. We get so

  607. ex

  608. and worried. And what am I gonna do

  609. and how am I gonna deal with? Do

  610. you know who your king is?

  611. Yes, there's gonna be rough stuff here.

  612. But a king is all powerful.

  613. It is with you for all of eternity

  614. if you're following king jesus. We need a

  615. fresh

  616. reminder.

  617. Jesus is this powerful and the demons know

  618. it... Oh, I wish that the children of

  619. God understood it again.

  620. And Jesus

  621. commanded the demons come out of the man.

  622. And all they do is beg, please don't

  623. torment us

  624. And Jesus asked the man,

  625. his name and the demon spoke for him

  626. saying we are

  627. legion.

  628. The legion is a regiment of the Roman

  629. Army would have contained 6000

  630. mend my foot a hundred and 20

  631. horsemen and some other strategic.

  632. Personnel.

  633. To a Jewish man,

  634. hearing legion

  635. What's your name?

  636. My name's Legion.

  637. It would have brought about this idea of

  638. a great number.

  639. Efficient

  640. organization, relentless strength and absolutely

  641. brutal unstoppable power.

  642. The idea is this isn't a small amount

  643. of of demons are a small problem. This

  644. is a force of darkness and evil, unlike

  645. many scene.

  646. It's bad. It's really bad.

  647. And yet this great force,

  648. only begs Jesus, please don't throw us into

  649. the abyss.

  650. That is don't throw us into. We understand

  651. abyss to be

  652. kind of like final judgment. Don't destroy us.

  653. Notice the irony here. The the demons terrorized

  654. and tormented the man

  655. trying to destroy him and utterly crush him,

  656. and then they begged Jesus not to torment

  657. them and utterly destroy them.

  658. You do you see that? We'll do this

  659. to him. Please don't do that back to

  660. us.

  661. There's a great herd of pigs feeding on

  662. a nearby hillside. And the demons begged to

  663. enter those pigs instead of going to the

  664. abyss, instead of in their mind, it's just

  665. pigs or or or final judgment in and

  666. and Jesus allows it.

  667. And they enter the pigs at once so

  668. the pigs rushed down a hill and drowned

  669. instantly.

  670. We hear that, and that probably use us

  671. with more questions than we start with? Like,

  672. why did Jesus allow this?

  673. Why didn't Jesus just completely destroy them now

  674. and forever, they're begging and he's should just

  675. lowered the boom. Why why didn't why didn't

  676. they get him? Well likely because God has

  677. designated a time to judge all things.

  678. When we we we don't talk

  679. about it a lot, but there's a time

  680. to judge the living in the dead, and

  681. then there's a final judgment that'll will come

  682. for Satan and his demons as well. Likely,

  683. this is not the final time.

  684. So he sends them to the pigs. It's

  685. not your time, but that time is coming

  686. for you.

  687. I do find it poetic.

  688. The demons had worked so hard to turn

  689. the man into an animal.

  690. With all their work and they're torment,

  691. it just lands them in animals.

  692. Do you see that? That part of amaze

  693. me that King Jesus pulls her versa on

  694. them.

  695. You you you want to make

  696. that man in the Ama day in animal

  697. send you into the animals. How do you

  698. like them apples?

  699. I love that part.

  700. And then look at what happens.

  701. Overlooked part of the story. Man we just

  702. miss some of the heavy things sometimes.

  703. The Herd in the town people who witnessed

  704. the dramatic destruction

  705. of evil.

  706. They found themselves in front of Jesus and

  707. they witnessed his power and his goodness.

  708. Right? They saw the man who had been

  709. terrorized

  710. on this countryside for years and they knew

  711. how bad off he was. And and they

  712. and they knew how terrorized he was. And

  713. and they they didn't think he was crazy.

  714. He was well known as the act. They

  715. knew exact what was going on and yet

  716. he's there, and he's calm. And he's in

  717. his right mind, and he's restored, and he's

  718. peaceful. There was a miracle

  719. epic deliverance of grace had happened there.

  720. And what is the reaction before Jesus the

  721. most high God?

  722. Begged to leave.

  723. That's heavy.

  724. They wanted know more of them.

  725. This is heartbreaking. A demon eyes man utterly

  726. shattered and destroyed.

  727. Is healed in an instant

  728. that the word of Jesus he's made whole

  729. he's been put back together

  730. all because he came to Jesus.

  731. And Jesus met him in his broken and

  732. yet the Herd.

  733. They likely saw the great financial loss that

  734. Jesus had brought. Like this 2000 pigs cost

  735. a lot of money.

  736. Because I don't want anymore what you're selling.

  737. You know how much that's already cost me.

  738. Please leave us. I don't want any of

  739. it.

  740. Salvation is in front of them.

  741. And that they want Jesus to leave.

  742. And I think there's a profound undertone in

  743. that

  744. to to us.

  745. Some will come to Jesus and find salvation

  746. and peace that they desperately need,

  747. and some were refuse to come and even

  748. ask him to go.

  749. Even when it's clear who he is and

  750. his power and what he's done and he's

  751. he's shown himself to be good.

  752. Which 1 of those groups are you in?

  753. Do you come to Jesus for your needs?

  754. Or or do you walk away or try

  755. and get him to go away and handle

  756. it yourself?

  757. You come to Jesus for what you need

  758. or do you beg him to go because

  759. you're afraid that it'll cost you too much.

  760. Man, if I just put all of my

  761. faith in you... You're gonna make me do

  762. something that I don't want... I I don't

  763. I don't want any part of it. We

  764. just just go. Just go.

  765. His heartbreaking, Jesus is right in front of

  766. them and they want nothing of it.

  767. I don't have time to focus

  768. too deeply on it, but

  769. the

  770. 1 to go with Jesus.

  771. Right, he's... Like, can I get the boat?

  772. I go with you? Like, I'm, I'm here

  773. forever.

  774. And jesus just tells them to go home.

  775. He says go and and show the people

  776. from where you've come from what I've done

  777. for you Given them your testimony.

  778. Things often work like this, Jesus often sends

  779. us into the places that we too... We

  780. feel too embarrassed to go.

  781. He sends us into the place where the

  782. the the the the full picture of who

  783. we were before him was on this place

  784. is go show them exactly what I've done.

  785. Show off the work.

  786. Not you. Show off me.

  787. So some of them may come to me

  788. through it as well.

  789. It brings to mind even the the text

  790. about John, the Baptist blessed of those who

  791. are not ashamed of me.

  792. Many of us are too ashamed to go.

  793. We just saw the power of jesus on

  794. full display as a man came to him.

  795. Had a legion of demons cast out of

  796. him, He was freed from his despair. And

  797. now Jesus returns back to the other shore

  798. and a crowd is waiting for him.

  799. And in this crowd is Jai, the the

  800. ruler of the Synagogue.

  801. To be the ruler of the Synagogue, this

  802. is like a big deal,

  803. he was by alright, a powerful man,

  804. influential man important man, known man. He's eating

  805. good. He's doing big things, deciding who's speaking

  806. in the Synagogue

  807. or running the operations of it. Like, like,

  808. this guy wasn't living paycheck to paycheck. He

  809. was doing well. Powerful man.

  810. Yeah, This powerful man all of a sudden

  811. falls,

  812. like a sack of potatoes at the feet

  813. of Jesus begging him to come to his

  814. house.

  815. Well because his 12 year old daughter is

  816. dying.

  817. They were out of options.

  818. If I can, again, I I told you

  819. when not keeping the cards close to the

  820. chest. Notice the reoccurring theme.

  821. Another person coming to Jesus in faith for

  822. their need.

  823. Jesus agrees used to go to the man's

  824. house

  825. and they head that way. With the crowd

  826. is not easy to navigate. It's it's full

  827. on mob now. Imagine, like, AAA concert scene

  828. and they're pushing towards the stage. This is

  829. kinda what's pushing at him and the people

  830. are all coming to to Jesus for a

  831. million different reasons, some with good, motives, some

  832. with not, but they're all coming. And they're

  833. rushing in, and there's a massive crowd

  834. and in the crowd was a woman who

  835. had a discharge of blood for 12 years.

  836. If you're not following, she'd been hem blood

  837. stop for 12 years,

  838. this is a female cycle that would not

  839. end.

  840. 12

  841. years.

  842. So this wasn't a small deal.

  843. On just a social level, she would be

  844. considered ceremonial

  845. unclear.

  846. According to the directive of

  847. Levi vi. She would transmit her un cleanliness

  848. to to anyone that she came in talk

  849. contact with or anyone that she touched.

  850. She would have been because of this, forbidden

  851. to have sexual relations, so she had a

  852. husband. She was likely divorce by now after

  853. 12 years.

  854. She was os size from normal society, barred

  855. from temple worship, you can't come in in

  856. the state.

  857. That doesn't even take into consideration the physical

  858. and emotional effects.

  859. She desired a child.

  860. She wanted a

  861. companionship. If she just wanted peace.

  862. The text says that she'd exhausted every option.

  863. She'd spent all of her money.

  864. Trying to go to to every physician she

  865. could? Can you fix me? Can you fix

  866. me? Can you fix me? I I did

  867. some reading about some of the the the

  868. remedies that they would use back then and

  869. they range from

  870. incredibly

  871. incredibly weird.

  872. Painful and humiliating beyond what you can imagine,

  873. and she tried all of them.

  874. And paid each step of the way.

  875. Until now there's nothing left.

  876. No more options, no more money. No more

  877. relationships for the most part. No more hope.

  878. And then and then hear this,

  879. each time she tried another thing. It just

  880. made it worse.

  881. We're we're not net neutral. We're we're worse.

  882. Empty alone,

  883. broke,

  884. despair, it's bad.

  885. She's cut off from home society religion in

  886. declining health.

  887. She couldn't have felt any lower at the

  888. time.

  889. While G was a man of

  890. substantial prestige

  891. with a profound worry that it just landed

  892. on him.

  893. Both of them we see in luke came

  894. to Jesus on the same day in hope

  895. and in faith.

  896. Very different

  897. situations, both coming in faith. The woman pushes

  898. through the crowd and desperation, and she touches

  899. Jesus corner of his garment at the edge

  900. of it, and she is healed.

  901. You gotta sit back Sometimes we're so familiar

  902. with a story. We don't think about Imagine

  903. the frame of mine, if I can just

  904. get to him and touch the ta, that'll

  905. do it.

  906. Pushing through the crowd, the massive crowd,

  907. and she does.

  908. And it works.

  909. The discharge of blood that had flowed for

  910. 12 year ceased. It didn't slow.

  911. It stopped.

  912. Her despair led her to push through to

  913. Jesus that day and faith and it healed

  914. her.

  915. Think about the competing interests of the moment

  916. and G

  917. his stomach would have been in knots. The

  918. the the crowd

  919. in Jesus and in his way, and he's

  920. got to Jesus,

  921. and he's begged him, and he says that

  922. he's gonna come. And there's a whole crowd

  923. and a distance in streets in between us

  924. and my house and my daughter, it must

  925. have felt

  926. excruciating. You had to be thinking just get

  927. out of my way. Please move. Please move.

  928. Don't you understand? We don't have very much

  929. time.

  930. Please just get out of the way. This

  931. is our only hope. Don't you get it

  932. as they push forward, the slow progress turns

  933. into no progress.

  934. Just go go go.

  935. Why are we stopping? Jesus says who touched

  936. me?

  937. He reached out for me.

  938. Darius must have felt like he was gonna

  939. lose his mind at the moment.

  940. Peter even says something like Jesus, there's a

  941. crazy big crowd. Like, who knows who touched

  942. you.

  943. Nobody tries to fe up.

  944. Peter says everyone's trying to touch you. How

  945. are we gonna know.

  946. Jesus says with someone did touch me and

  947. power is going out for me. I wanna

  948. know who

  949. The woman at some point came trembling before

  950. Jesus fell out at at his feet and

  951. fest up. It was me.

  952. I touched you. I did it.

  953. Keep in mind, she was considered in this

  954. cultures is a really big deal whether you

  955. know much about how their culture deals with

  956. cleanliness. She was considered ceremonial uncle unclear at

  957. the moment that that she pressed into the

  958. crowd. Everyone she touched with ceremonial, leon uncle

  959. clean, And then Jesus who she just grabbed

  960. a ahold of, even by the him of

  961. his garment was made ceremonial uncle unclear. No.

  962. He wasn't made a sinner by this, but

  963. he was ceremonial uncle unclear.

  964. She had no idea of Jesus would cha

  965. eyes her.

  966. Maybe even take away or cure because she

  967. had been

  968. dis

  969. to the

  970. the formal laws of

  971. cleanliness

  972. and yet still,

  973. She had enough faith, chased through fine Jesus

  974. grab a ahold of him and enough faith

  975. that admit to him what she had done.

  976. When Jesus says to her daughter, your faith

  977. has been made well, and go in peace.

  978. Or your faith has made you well.

  979. Think about her faith, though.

  980. Her faith was uninformed

  981. super

  982. awkward pre

  983. imperfect.

  984. Right. You gotta think through this mind. This

  985. isn't like This is gonna be the savior

  986. who's gonna die for my sins and I

  987. have this need. This was... I just gotta

  988. touch him.

  989. Her faith was all of those things, but

  990. it was also real.

  991. And Christ accepted her m formed faith

  992. wholeheartedly.

  993. Let that kinda sit. Her faith

  994. was almost foolish and reckless.

  995. More aligned with superstition in eastern religion and

  996. rubbing AAA

  997. genie in a bottle than actual biblical faith

  998. and yet, Jesus accepted it warm and without

  999. reservation.

1000. Daughter, your faith has made you well.

1001. And this is some of the greatest news

1002. that we can get. We are so caught

  1003. up in

  1004. in

  1005. in procedure.

1006. And this doesn't mean, hey, there's no rules,

1007. but so often we wanna... Well, I wanna

1008. come when I have it figured out when

1009. I know enough when I've got this taken

1010. care of in this take care, we want

1011. to kind of come rightly before Jesus, when

1012. the point is you're broken, you can't.

1013. None of that was necessary for her.

1014. See Jesus is the perfect 1 in the

1015. equation. Our faith doesn't have to be perfect

  1016. because he is perfect.

1017. We can have a foggy understanding of our

  1018. faith.

  1019. And Jesus still accepted.

1020. Again, authentic faith isn't perfect looking faith. It's

1021. faith in the perfect 1, for what you

1022. desperately need and he'll meet you there in

  1023. glad.

1024. She had that in spade any healed or

1025. because of it. Again, there can be people

1026. who run too far Nothing matters. It's fine

1027. and we can become. No. No. In your

1028. need though when you come in faith, he'll

1029. accept you. It doesn't mean there's no rules.

1030. Man you don't have to have it be

1031. perfect or have it all figured out for

1032. him to open up his arms and accept

  1033. you.

1034. No. While Jesus was still speaking,

1035. before he even turned away from her, the

1036. worst knew just that G could get k?

  1037. 1 person's healing, and they're blessing and their

1038. joy seemed to come at the cost.

1039. Of what g desperately needed.

1040. He hears it's too late.

1041. Your daughter's dead, leave them alone.

1042. We couldn't get there fast enough if. It's

  1043. over.

1044. They're sit in that moment for a moment

1045. and just kinda think about it. The horror

  1046. of seeing

1047. 1 person get what they want while you

1048. lose everything that you want.

1049. Seeing the sheer joy and

1050. rush over in the peace rush over, she

  1051. is

1052. overcome with... Worship glad that he has done,

1053. what couldn't be done and at the same

1054. time, you're crushed, the biggest fear that you

  1055. have has been

1056. it it's come true that

  1057. that's a heavy thing.

1058. Jesus looks at G, and he doesn't tell

  1059. him

1060. or he doesn't test him or let him

1061. keep going or wondering, he immediately says say

  1062. I don't fear.

1063. Believe she'll be well. I've got this.

1064. I'm not sure about you, but that moment

1065. would have been hard for me.

1066. G would have been tempted to lash out

1067. and anger. What do you mean? I've got

  1068. the She'll will?

1069. Would we have been tempted to lash out

  1070. with the woman?

1071. My daughter died because you had to come

  1072. in and do this.

1073. Maybe the temptation be... It's it's over jeez

1074. get away from. You can't do what I

1075. need. He failed me. You didn't come through.

1076. You didn't take care of what I needed.

  1077. But he didn't.

1078. In the face of what seemed impossible,

1079. he just did what Jesus asked and he

  1080. came with him.

1081. They kept believing and walked home.

1082. When they get to the house, Jesus had

1083. Peter James and John come in with them,

1084. into the room with a mother and the

1085. father and the daughter who had just died.

1086. The family stood there and they began to

1087. weep and they began to mourn and they

1088. begin to to grieve, and Jesus said do

1089. not weep for she's not dead.

  1090. She's just sleeping.

1091. They literally laughed at him,

1092. knowing that she was actually dead.

1093. Shock. How how could you say that?

1094. But Jesus took the girl by the hand

1095. and said child her eyes and so she

1096. did her spirit instantly returned to her and

  1097. she got up.

1098. That's some of the details just get me.

1099. Jesus looks as I, get her some food.

  1100. It's been a long day.

1101. Death was cast out as fast as the

1102. demons and the discharge were.

1103. The death had its praise stolen right from

1104. under its nose and could do nothing about

1105. it because King Jesus was there.

  1106. Jesus was

  1107. 1 healing at a time

1108. restoring those who came to him and faith.

1109. But he's also destroying the power of evil

  1110. and sin over humanity.

1111. King Jesus was at work and nothing could

  1112. stop him.

  1113. He took imperfect faith,

1114. and turned it into perfect restoration.

1115. And then again, the story stops

1116. with just Jesus saying, hey, I don't go

  1117. tell anybody.

1118. Again, that probably raises more questions Okay?

1119. Why did he tell the pneumonia act to

  1120. go tell everyone?

1121. But now he's telling the parents not to

  1122. go tell anyone?

  1123. Why?

1124. Why did you do that?

  1125. Will likely it is

1126. Jesus will heal all who come to him

1127. overcome by their evil in their sin.

1128. There's no person lost in sin and broken

1129. even to the point of the demonic act,

1130. who doesn't come to Jesus in faith of

1131. the problem of their sin and the broken

1132. ness that he will not heal.

1133. The he'll turn away. There's this perpetual promise.

1134. Come to me all who are weak and

1135. heavy laden and, come and find rest for

1136. your soul. Come. I'm the light come to

1137. me over and over and over, Jesus will

  1138. heal.

  1139. Us from our sin

  1140. our spiritual broken ness

1141. and the evil around us, he will give

  1142. it to you.

1143. Does that mean? If you're stuck in a

1144. sin pattern and can't get out.

1145. Whether it's hidden well or everyone was, like,

1146. I Seen in Africa couple months.

1147. Or even if Evil and incentives us push

1148. you to the place of broken us like

  1149. the,

1150. either way, come to jesus and he can

1151. and we'll set you free. There's freedom,

1152. in the hands of the savior.

1153. Jesus tells the pneumonia act to go tell

1154. everyone, so that they may come and repeat

1155. the same cycle. He's got what you need.

1156. He'll take care of that.

1157. He's faithful and just and kind and does

1158. not give bad gifts to those who come

1159. to him and ask in faith Jesus creamy

  1160. from the sin. Okay.

1161. There's caveats on that. You may go, like,

  1162. I've tried that and he hasn't.

1163. Sometimes you you come to him for your

  1164. sin.

1165. You wonder why he doesn't fix it and

1166. he's asking to put 3 things down. He

1167. no full well. You won't put him down.

1168. He's trying to act. You won't let him.

1169. Again, he's faithful to meet you

1170. when you come to him or the problem

  1171. of your sin.

1172. While the raising of the dead is not

1173. Like, that's not a perpetual promise on repeat.

1174. This is a miracle that he performed,

1175. but not something he's gonna do for everyone

  1176. in anyone.

  1177. I imagine that's why he says,

1178. to the parent I don't go broadcast it.

1179. I want the message of spiritual healing come

1180. to me as your savior. I want that

1181. to be what they hear.

1182. I don't want others to come to me

1183. for that miracle as well, I will gladly

  1184. do it.

1185. If we step back and look look look,

1186. Luca showing us Jesus can do anything.

1187. You get that right, The storm,

  1188. legion,

1189. 12 years of of pain and hem,

1190. even to the point of death,

  1191. there's nothing you can't do.

1192. So Luca showing us the power of Jesus,

1193. but even more than that we're getting the

1194. invitation to come to jesus ourselves role what

  1195. we need.

1196. This is the thing that our hearts need

1197. to continue to wrestle with. Salvation is coming

1198. to Jesus for your sin and for salvation

  1199. and healing.

1200. Jeez Center in need of a savior.

  1201. I know I can't fix it. I can't

  1202. deal with. I can't remedy it and I

  1203. can't clean myself. I can't wash myself.

  1204. I I can't. I Come to you. I

1205. put all of my faith in you King

1206. Jesus. I need. Your forgiveness. Put... I believe

1207. in you for the problem of my sin.

1208. You come to him once for that.

1209. But then a part of san justification or

1210. disciples ship or the maturing walk of Christ

1211. is to continue to come to him over

1212. and over and over again.

1213. Again, can we hear that? We we don't

1214. come to Jesus over and over and over

  1215. to be saved.

1216. But we do come to him over and

1217. over and over to be

  1218. transformed and freed.

  1219. Come for your struggles.

  1220. Comfort your anger.

1221. Come for your apa, you're ind.

1222. Come for the habit that you can't shake,

1223. and you're starting to not be able to

  1224. hide.

1225. Come for the bitterness that's taken root. You

  1226. can't get it out.

1227. Come for the heart that feels distant and

  1228. weak.

1229. Then and then hear this because sometimes we

1230. hear that and be like, and I don't

1231. got nothing that broken right now. Okay?

1232. Come to the heart that wants to be

1233. deeper in love with him.

1234. Come for the 1 that wants to have

  1235. the the the first

  1236. feeling of

1237. of the love of faith that you had

1238. to Rec kindle just come.

1239. This is the beauty of Jesus come

1240. and see that he will meet you. Jesus

1241. own where it's come to me.

  1242. All,

1243. all who are weary heavy laid. And I'll

1244. give you rest for you your soul. I've

  1245. got what you need.

1246. For salvation. Yes, and then freedom beyond them,

  1247. come to me.

1248. So what we'll do we'll have some time

  1249. and prayer

1250. in the gathering again today, like we've we've

  1251. been doing.

1252. And then we'll have some time. This is

  1253. a third week where we've been

1254. sending aside time to to lay on hands

1255. for prayer upfront after service.

1256. So just ask you to consider, hey, what

  1257. do you need?

1258. What do you need from him? Are you

  1259. stuck?

1260. Are you lost? Are you tired? Are you

1261. hurting? Are you confused? Do you just want

1262. more of the father in your life? What

  1263. what do you need?

1264. Would you maybe consider that the front time

  1265. of prayer? Just some

1266. some prayer to the lord and some so

1267. some kind of contemplation of what you may

1268. need? And then After the service would you

1269. consider coming to be pray for for that?

1270. See he's a fountain of grace for all

1271. who believe He doesn't give salvation and leave

1272. you alone to figure the rest out yourself?

1273. See he's available to come to in faith,

1274. and we'll find when we regularly come to

1275. him for what we need. He'll meet us

  1276. with grace.

1277. As we move along in in worship would

1278. you consider coming to him?

1279. Then I was just say for some of

  1280. you. I was thinking

1281. for my own heart and for some of

  1282. you this morning.

1283. Just this term... There's an ocean of grace

1284. and freedom there for you.

1285. But you have to come ask for it

  1286. sometimes.

  1287. Don't assume it.

1288. Practice your faith by asking your brothers and

1289. sisters to pray with you. Again,

1290. yeah. This used to be a gym. The

1291. house of lord is called

1292. my my father's house meant to be a

1293. house of prayer. What do we do We

1294. go to him and prayer regularly.

1295. Way we... May we be those who come

1296. to him Again, and again, and again, knowing

1297. that he's able and kind to meet us.

1298. And gonna remind you of and jesus his

1299. own words as well. There's some things. We're

1300. gonna get in some rut, and have some

  1301. moments.

1302. We just try and get out and can't.

1303. And the disciples had this happen to him

  1304. at 1 point.

  1305. And they, hey. Like

1306. why couldn't we fix this?

1307. It gives them the most simple answer. Some

1308. gonna can only be done with my prayer.

1309. And so my hope for us today is

1310. we spent some time asking what we need

  1311. from the Lord. And now I I don't

1312. wanna manipulate you or manufacture, but I would

  1313. just say in and

  1314. hopefully,

1315. in an honest humble heart,

1316. why wouldn't we come more to pray?

1317. He has what you need that we would

1318. become a people that trust him more, ask

1319. for what we need and see him meet

  1320. us there.

1321. Man you guys can come back up. Our

1322. hope is that we would see

  1323. king Jesus profoundly good.

  1324. We'll take comm again

1325. today like we always do. And here's the

  1326. the understanding.

1327. He has all we need first he has

1328. what we need for salvation, and then he

1329. has what we need to carry us through

  1330. to the end.

1331. But the beauty of the table every time

1332. is remembering, it's his body, in blood. It's

1333. the only reason that we can be saved.

1334. So we take first corinthians 11 says for

1335. I received from the Lord, what I also

  1336. delivered to you.

1337. That the lord g's on the night when

1338. he was betrayed, took bread when he given

1339. thinks he broke, and he said this is

1340. my body, which is for you.

1341. Do this in remembrance of me in the

1342. same way. Also, he took the cup after

1343. supper saying this cup is the new covenant

  1344. in my blood.

1345. Do this as often as you drink it

1346. and remembrance it's of me for as often

1347. as you eat the bread and drink the

1348. cup, you claim the Lord's death until he

  1349. comes.

1350. Will sing and have some moments of pray

1351. and come to the table and remember it's

  1352. Christ

1353. alone that brings us salvation.

1354. That my sincere hope for us, whether your

1355. need is big or small,

1356. that several you would come to be prayed

1357. for and realize he has what you need

  1358. today as well.

1359. Then maybe that would kind of ignite some

1360. worship in our hearts over the pattern to

1361. continually come and continually see that he is

  1362. faithful

1363. and kind a strong king who can do

1364. all things and is eager to meet us

1365. when we come to him in faith.

1366. Would you stand in and pray with me

  1367. today?

1368. Father Pray that you help us, would you

1369. straighten out all things today?

1370. But I pray that you straighten out my

1371. words that you would help us see

1372. jesus that you're powerful and good.

  1373. There's nothing that you can't do.

1374. There's also nothing out there that can give

1375. us more than you. Let us see that

  1376. and believe it.

1377. But fill our hearts with your goodness and

1378. your kindness? Would you meet us draw in?

  1379. For the struggling.

1380. Spirit would you draw here and speak?

1381. Would you give freedom to some?

1382. Would you re kendall worship for some?

1383. Would you give hoped, some

1384. let her pray that you would renew and

1385. revive and restore and work where we need

1386. it. God calm john dear us.

1387. When I pray that you help us not

  1388. get lost.

1389. The middle of July in the middle of

1390. summer with a million things going on. Maybe

  1391. see again.

1392. You have what we need

  1393. faithful, kind, good.

  1394. Remove our distraction,

1395. re kindle the fire of our salvation lord.

1396. A worship that comes from a grateful heart

1397. and seizing or that it sees that you

  1398. are just better. God.

1399. Come and work. We pray that in your

1400. name. Would you be glorified may meet us

1401. at the table and may you meet us

  1402. and prayer.

  1403. We love you.

  1404. Amen.
