  1. Ryan Best: Good morning, church.

  2. Ryan Best: It's, uh, such a wonderful sight to be here again.

  3. Ryan Best: Um, it's always a joy when I get to come out, uh, this way.

  4. Ryan Best: This is.

  5. Ryan Best: This is kind of close to where I grew up and, uh, spent a lot of

  6. Ryan Best: time in my youth.

  7. Ryan Best: In fact, brother Jim and I, for

  8. Ryan Best: a short period were neighbors,

  9. Ryan Best: uh, rode the school bus

  10. Ryan Best: together.

  11. Ryan Best: So, uh, we know each other quite well from our days of school.

  12. Ryan Best: So, uh, when I get to come back this way, it's, uh.

  13. Ryan Best: It's always a fun time.

  14. Ryan Best: It brings.

  15. Ryan Best: It brings joy to my heart that I get to come up, uh, in this area

  16. Ryan Best: every now and then.

  17. Ryan Best: So this morning, I want to talk

  18. Ryan Best: a little bit about, uh, our

  19. Ryan Best: renewal and in the springtime

  20. Ryan Best: because, uh, it's springtime and

  21. Ryan Best: this is the time when we have

  22. Ryan Best: renewal.

  23. Ryan Best: So I felt it just just worked together really well.

  24. Ryan Best: So, you know, if you, if you're

  25. Ryan Best: outside, although it's a little

  26. Ryan Best: gloomy and cold this morning,

  27. Ryan Best: but I'm sure if you look around,

  28. Ryan Best: you're going to be able to tell

  29. Ryan Best: that this is the season of

  30. Ryan Best: spring.

  31. Ryan Best: Um, the earth is waking up.

  32. Ryan Best: All the bulbs are starting to push through the soil.

  33. Ryan Best: The trees are starting to, uh,

  34. Ryan Best: get some buds and leaves coming

  35. Ryan Best: out.

  36. Ryan Best: Um, the the air carries the

  37. Ryan Best: promise of warmth and growth

  38. Ryan Best: with it.

  39. Ryan Best: A little bit of pollen too.

  40. Ryan Best: So, uh, I'm going to take your allergy pills, but, um, you

  41. Ryan Best: know, after winter's long rest, um, everything is finally

  42. Ryan Best: starting to feel fresh.

  43. Ryan Best: It's it's feeling a little hopeful and alive out there.

  44. Ryan Best: You know, spring just isn't a change in the weather.

  45. Ryan Best: Um, to me, it's it's a living picture of what God longs to do

  46. Ryan Best: in every one of us.

  47. Ryan Best: So this morning, as, as we

  48. Ryan Best: gather in worship, uh, we'll

  49. Ryan Best: explore the theme of renewal,

  50. Ryan Best: which is the beautiful truth

  51. Ryan Best: that our God specializes in new

  52. Ryan Best: beginnings.

  53. Ryan Best: The Bible is is filled with

  54. Ryan Best: God's promises of renewal, and

  55. Ryan Best: we're going to let His Word

  56. Ryan Best: speak directly to our hearts

  57. Ryan Best: this morning.

  58. Ryan Best: So I'm going to I got a few

  59. Ryan Best: passages, uh, that I'm going to

  60. Ryan Best: read and I'll take after each

  61. Ryan Best: one.

  62. Ryan Best: I'm going to kind of pause a little bit to unpack what it

  63. Ryan Best: means and just how it speaks to our lives right now, and how it

  64. Ryan Best: should shape the way that we live and why it matters that we

  65. Ryan Best: pay attention to these words.

  66. Ryan Best: So first, I want to I want to

  67. Ryan Best: speak the words from

  68. Ryan Best: Lamentations chapter three,

  69. Ryan Best: verses twenty two and twenty

  70. Ryan Best: three.

  71. Ryan Best: It says, the faithful love of the Lord never ends.

  72. Ryan Best: His mercies never cease.

  73. Ryan Best: Great is his faithfulness.

  74. Ryan Best: His mercies begin afresh each morning.

  75. Ryan Best: And what this scripture means

  76. Ryan Best: is, is very simple, yet I think,

  77. Ryan Best: profound.

  78. Ryan Best: See, God's love and compassion are not limited or used up, so

  79. Ryan Best: they don't expire.

  80. Ryan Best: And every single morning he

  81. Ryan Best: hands us a brand new supply of

  82. Ryan Best: mercy and a brand new supply of

  83. Ryan Best: faithfulness.

  84. Ryan Best: It's kind of like a daily sunrise for the soul.

  85. Ryan Best: And you know, no matter how hard yesterday was, today is a fresh

  86. Ryan Best: start because of who he is.

  87. Ryan Best: And, you know, today we we live in a world that keeps score and

  88. Ryan Best: it keeps score on everything.

  89. Ryan Best: Not just not just sports games.

  90. Ryan Best: You know, I'm a hockey fan.

  91. Ryan Best: Penguins won last night.

  92. Ryan Best: Hooray.

  93. Ryan Best: That's great.

  94. Ryan Best: But that's not the kind of score

  95. Ryan Best: that the that the world keeps it

  96. Ryan Best: keeps score in ways like, um

  97. Ryan Best: harsh words at work, financial

  98. Ryan Best: setbacks, strained

  99. Ryan Best: relationships, or just the, the

  100. Ryan Best: sheer exhaustion of, of

  101. Ryan Best: scrolling through Everyone's

  102. Ryan Best: highlight reels on their social

  103. Ryan Best: media.

  104. Ryan Best: It really can lead us to feeling stuck in yesterday's failures.

  105. Ryan Best: But spring reminds us that God

  106. Ryan Best: isn't bound by our calendars or

  107. Ryan Best: our mistakes.

  108. Ryan Best: And you know, just as the season

  109. Ryan Best: resets the landscape, God's

  110. Ryan Best: mercies reset our hearts every

  111. Ryan Best: morning.

  112. Ryan Best: And you know this.

  113. Ryan Best: This affects our lives because

  114. Ryan Best: it frees us to begin each day

  115. Ryan Best: with open hands instead of

  116. Ryan Best: clenched fists.

  117. Ryan Best: See, we get to we get to let go of yesterday's guilt or

  118. Ryan Best: resentment and and step into today with gratitude.

  119. Ryan Best: It changes how we treat our

  120. Ryan Best: families, changes how we treat

  121. Ryan Best: our coworkers.

  122. Ryan Best: And it can even change how we

  123. Ryan Best: treat ourselves, offering the

  124. Ryan Best: same fresh start grace that

  125. Ryan Best: we've received.

  126. Ryan Best: And, you know, practically, it might look like a short morning

  127. Ryan Best: prayer, like just saying, Lord, thank you for new mercies today.

  128. Ryan Best: Uh, and help me walk in them.

  129. Ryan Best: And it's important that we

  130. Ryan Best: follow these words because

  131. Ryan Best: without this daily renewal, we

  132. Ryan Best: risk carrying the weight of

  133. Ryan Best: winter all year long, the

  134. Ryan Best: bitterness, the burnout of our

  135. Ryan Best: spiritual numbness.

  136. Ryan Best: But when we receive God's fresh

  137. Ryan Best: mercies, we stay alive to his

  138. Ryan Best: presence.

  139. Ryan Best: We stay alive and resilient in trials, and we are ready to be a

  140. Ryan Best: source of hope for others.

  141. Ryan Best: See, in this weary world that we live in, people who live this

  142. Ryan Best: way, well, they're living proof that God's faithfulness is real.

  143. Ryan Best: Alright, now I'd like to to move

  144. Ryan Best: on to Isaiah chapter forty

  145. Ryan Best: three, verses eighteen and

  146. Ryan Best: nineteen, which says, but forget

  147. Ryan Best: all that.

  148. Ryan Best: It is nothing compared to what I am going to do.

  149. Ryan Best: For I am about to do something new.

  150. Ryan Best: See, I have already begun.

  151. Ryan Best: Do you not see it?

  152. Ryan Best: I will make a pathway through the wilderness.

  153. Ryan Best: I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

  154. Ryan Best: See here God is speaking to

  155. Ryan Best: people who feel trapped by their

  156. Ryan Best: past exile, failure, or

  157. Ryan Best: hardship.

  158. Ryan Best: He says, stop dwelling on what was.

  159. Ryan Best: I'm already at work doing something brand new.

  160. Ryan Best: See, God creates roads where there were none and brings life,

  161. Ryan Best: giving water to barren places.

  162. Ryan Best: Renewal is not just wishful

  163. Ryan Best: thinking, it's God's active

  164. Ryan Best: creative work.

  165. Ryan Best: And many of us are are walking through our wilderness.

  166. Ryan Best: Maybe it's stalled career struggles in your marriage.

  167. Ryan Best: You got a health challenge.

  168. Ryan Best: Uh, or maybe even your faith just feels a little dry.

  169. Ryan Best: And, you know, culture tells us to just push harder, just accept

  170. Ryan Best: things the way they are, you know, pull yourself up by your

  171. Ryan Best: bootstraps and keep on going.

  172. Ryan Best: But God interrupts that narrative.

  173. Ryan Best: He says, look, I am already doing something anew.

  174. Ryan Best: And spring shows this, this every single year.

  175. Ryan Best: It's life breaking through, concrete flowers blooming where

  176. Ryan Best: nothing grew before.

  177. Ryan Best: And you know what?

  178. Ryan Best: God's doing the very same thing in us.

  179. Ryan Best: And, and, and living this way

  180. Ryan Best: calls us to, uh, release that

  181. Ryan Best: rear view mirror that we have in

  182. Ryan Best: our lives.

  183. Ryan Best: We stop rehearsing the old stories that no longer define

  184. Ryan Best: us, and we start watching expectantly for what God is up

  185. Ryan Best: to right now.

  186. Ryan Best: And that sometimes means saying

  187. Ryan Best: yes to a new ministry

  188. Ryan Best: opportunity.

  189. Ryan Best: Um, it might mean mending a

  190. Ryan Best: relationship or, you know,

  191. Ryan Best: simply showing up differently in

  192. Ryan Best: the daily routines that you

  193. Ryan Best: have.

  194. Ryan Best: See, this moves us from passive

  195. Ryan Best: waiting to active participation

  196. Ryan Best: in the new thing that God is

  197. Ryan Best: planning.

  198. Ryan Best: And it's important for us to follow these words because if we

  199. Ryan Best: cling to the past, it keeps us stuck in this spiritual winter.

  200. Ryan Best: But when we trust God's new work, we step into freedom,

  201. Ryan Best: purpose, and joy.

  202. Ryan Best: And that is how we become a part of his bigger story.

  203. Ryan Best: People who bring life to dry places.

  204. Ryan Best: Uh. Ignoring this promise means that we're missing the adventure

  205. Ryan Best: that he's already begun.

  206. Ryan Best: And I don't think missing out on

  207. Ryan Best: the adventures that God started

  208. Ryan Best: us is something that we want to

  209. Ryan Best: do, right?

  210. Ryan Best: All right.

  211. Ryan Best: Let me read from Isaiah chapter

  212. Ryan Best: forty, verses thirty and thirty

  213. Ryan Best: one.

  214. Ryan Best: Even youths will become weak and

  215. Ryan Best: tired, and young men will fall

  216. Ryan Best: in exhaustion.

  217. Ryan Best: But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

  218. Ryan Best: They will soar high on wings like eagles.

  219. Ryan Best: They will run and not grow weary.

  220. Ryan Best: They will walk and not faint.

  221. Ryan Best: Now, what this scripture is

  222. Ryan Best: telling us is that even the

  223. Ryan Best: strong among us eventually grow

  224. Ryan Best: weary physically, emotionally,

  225. Ryan Best: or spiritually.

  226. Ryan Best: Anybody here that goes to the gym on a regular basis, or does

  227. Ryan Best: exercises at home and works out, or even just does enough work

  228. Ryan Best: around the house, you feel like, man, you could pick that up.

  229. Ryan Best: You could carry that around, And maybe you've.

  230. Ryan Best: Maybe you've done it your entire life.

  231. Ryan Best: Man, the older we get, though,

  232. Ryan Best: it just seems like one little

  233. Ryan Best: twist, one little turn, one

  234. Ryan Best: little tweak, and oh, there goes

  235. Ryan Best: the back.

  236. Ryan Best: There goes the knees.

  237. Ryan Best: The shoulder.

  238. Ryan Best: I mean, we could, we could probably list all our ailments

  239. Ryan Best: and, and spend the better part of the next thirty, forty

  240. Ryan Best: minutes doing that.

  241. Ryan Best: Right.

  242. Ryan Best: And, you know, it doesn't matter

  243. Ryan Best: how, how much we condition

  244. Ryan Best: ourselves, how much we work out

  245. Ryan Best: eventually, physically, we, we

  246. Ryan Best: get weaker.

  247. Ryan Best: We get a little more fragile spiritually.

  248. Ryan Best: Um, that can happen to, we can,

  249. Ryan Best: we can come to church every

  250. Ryan Best: single Sunday and sit in our

  251. Ryan Best: pews and we can listen to the

  252. Ryan Best: message, but we can be in the

  253. Ryan Best: sanctuary, but not in the

  254. Ryan Best: message.

  255. Ryan Best: And we can miss out on it and,

  256. Ryan Best: you know, emotionally in our

  257. Ryan Best: lives.

  258. Ryan Best: You know, my wife and I have

  259. Ryan Best: been married for twenty five

  260. Ryan Best: years.

  261. Ryan Best: And, you know, there's times

  262. Ryan Best: where you can, you can check out

  263. Ryan Best: emotionally, you can just get so

  264. Ryan Best: wrapped up in other things that

  265. Ryan Best: you're doing that you just, you

  266. Ryan Best: kind of, you kind of miss some

  267. Ryan Best: of the things that you need to

  268. Ryan Best: do and things that would make

  269. Ryan Best: you happy before just don't seem

  270. Ryan Best: to bring you the same joy they

  271. Ryan Best: used to.

  272. Ryan Best: And it's not that.

  273. Ryan Best: It's not that those things don't have the ability to bring that

  274. Ryan Best: joy to you.

  275. Ryan Best: It's just that we miss out on

  276. Ryan Best: we, we take for granted the

  277. Ryan Best: things that we have in our

  278. Ryan Best: lives.

  279. Ryan Best: And I think that what, uh, Isaiah forty is telling us here

  280. Ryan Best: is that, yes, we will physically, emotionally, and

  281. Ryan Best: spiritually grow weary.

  282. Ryan Best: God offers supernatural renewal

  283. Ryan Best: to those who wait on him with

  284. Ryan Best: expectant trust.

  285. Ryan Best: See, God doesn't just patch us up.

  286. Ryan Best: He. He exchanges our exhaustion for eagle like strength that

  287. Ryan Best: rises above any circumstances that we can be in.

  288. Ryan Best: And now spring.

  289. Ryan Best: It follows that that tired fatigue of winter.

  290. Ryan Best: When.

  291. Ryan Best: When the days feel short and energy is kind of low.

  292. Ryan Best: Because, boy, nothing makes you more tired than when the sun's

  293. Ryan Best: starting to go down.

  294. Ryan Best: Right.

  295. Ryan Best: That's it's just natural.

  296. Ryan Best: We start to, we start to get a little a little exhausted.

  297. Ryan Best: The days end a little bit quicker.

  298. Ryan Best: And boy, in the winter time,

  299. Ryan Best: it's just less and less

  300. Ryan Best: daylight.

  301. Ryan Best: And it's, it's pretty easy for us to, uh, to wear down.

  302. Ryan Best: And, uh, just because the days are shorter, does that mean our

  303. Ryan Best: lives and all the busyness we have shrink up?

  304. Ryan Best: No, we got the same amount of stuff going on in our lives.

  305. Ryan Best: We just got shorter days of of daylight to do it.

  306. Ryan Best: And that's, man, our energy does it just starts to sap you.

  307. Ryan Best: It's like your brain's telling you it's getting dark out.

  308. Ryan Best: It's time to wind down.

  309. Ryan Best: But man, it's like, what is it in the wintertime?

  310. Ryan Best: It's like four thirty, five o'clock in the evening.

  311. Ryan Best: The sun's starting to get a

  312. Ryan Best: little low, and you're starting

  313. Ryan Best: to feel tired and weary from the

  314. Ryan Best: day, and it's cold outside, and

  315. Ryan Best: that saps you and stuff too,

  316. Ryan Best: right?

  317. Ryan Best: So, so, you know, we got these fast paced lives and, you know,

  318. Ryan Best: many of us are kind of running on empty at times.

  319. Ryan Best: We're we're burned out from jobs.

  320. Ryan Best: We're burned out from parenting, just the endless news cycles

  321. Ryan Best: that we see all around us.

  322. Ryan Best: Or maybe you're just carrying

  323. Ryan Best: some heavy burdens all on your

  324. Ryan Best: own.

  325. Ryan Best: And I think this this piece of scripture right here meets us

  326. Ryan Best: exactly in that spot.

  327. Ryan Best: See, renewal isn't about trying harder in our own power, but

  328. Ryan Best: it's learning to trust and wait on the Lord.

  329. Ryan Best: And this invites us to slow down and to practice waiting through

  330. Ryan Best: prayer, through worship, um, through rest on the Sabbath or

  331. Ryan Best: just just having some quiet time in God's word.

  332. Ryan Best: So instead of doing what the the world tries to tell us, which

  333. Ryan Best: is, you know, push through it.

  334. Ryan Best: We shouldn't be just pushing through exhaustion.

  335. Ryan Best: We need to learn to, to lean into God's strength.

  336. Ryan Best: Now, here's the hard part.

  337. Ryan Best: This might mean that you have to say no to over commitment.

  338. Ryan Best: I brought my family with me today.

  339. Ryan Best: They'd probably be the first ones to tell you that the

  340. Ryan Best: hardest thing that I struggle with is saying no. And and I

  341. Ryan Best: totally mean that from saying no to my wife and daughter when it

  342. Ryan Best: comes to getting something.

  343. Ryan Best: Can we buy this?

  344. Ryan Best: Can we go here?

  345. Ryan Best: I can't say no. I want to sometimes.

  346. Ryan Best: Right.

  347. Ryan Best: But, uh, and it's not just that friends need something.

  348. Ryan Best: Work needs something.

  349. Ryan Best: I mean, I just, I just want to

  350. Ryan Best: give and give and help and help

  351. Ryan Best: and and do and do and and it's

  352. Ryan Best: difficult sometimes.

  353. Ryan Best: And that can wear on you and.

  354. Ryan Best: Yes.

  355. Ryan Best: Um, sometimes you're going to

  356. Ryan Best: have to, you're going to have to

  357. Ryan Best: do that.

  358. Ryan Best: You're going to have to say, no, I, I, I can't do it, I can't

  359. Ryan Best: commit to this thing.

  360. Ryan Best: Uh, you may have to, to do that.

  361. Ryan Best: You might have to seek accountability in some small

  362. Ryan Best: groups or find an accountability partner, as they say, just

  363. Ryan Best: someone that, that you trust that is not going to be afraid

  364. Ryan Best: to tell you the truth.

  365. Ryan Best: Like, hey, man, you, you need to relax a little bit.

  366. Ryan Best: You know, it's okay to say no. And yes, the danger of getting

  367. Ryan Best: really good at saying no means it gets easier to say no. So of

  368. Ryan Best: course we have to balance that.

  369. Ryan Best: But, um, you know, I, I think

  370. Ryan Best: that, uh, having some ways to

  371. Ryan Best: help keep you accountable, um,

  372. Ryan Best: and to, you know, make sure that

  373. Ryan Best: you're, you're leaning into the

  374. Ryan Best: Lord not trusting yourself to

  375. Ryan Best: like, like, I'm not going to get

  376. Ryan Best: through this.

  377. Ryan Best: Like if I, if I sat here and

  378. Ryan Best: relied on my own strength and my

  379. Ryan Best: own ability to get myself

  380. Ryan Best: through all the trials and all

  381. Ryan Best: of the things that I got going

  382. Ryan Best: on every day in my life, I'd be

  383. Ryan Best: a mess.

  384. Ryan Best: I'd probably end each day just.

  385. Ryan Best: I could just picture myself just sitting in a dark corner, knees

  386. Ryan Best: pulled up to my chest, just, you know, head hanging, just like,

  387. Ryan Best: man, how do I do this?

  388. Ryan Best: Why do I do this?

  389. Ryan Best: Right?

  390. Ryan Best: But, you know, a good thing might be to just pause each day,

  391. Ryan Best: just take a moment of silence and just declare, Lord, I trust

  392. Ryan Best: you for new strength today.

  393. Ryan Best: Because that's where the true strength comes from.

  394. Ryan Best: And you know, if we if we don't

  395. Ryan Best: get this renewal of strength,

  396. Ryan Best: uh, we're going to risk crashing

  397. Ryan Best: spiritually, relationally, and

  398. Ryan Best: physically.

  399. Ryan Best: You know, those who, who trust God, they become resilient

  400. Ryan Best: witnesses in a weary culture that we live in.

  401. Ryan Best: Uh, those people soar high above storms.

  402. Ryan Best: Uh, they just keep running the race of faith.

  403. Ryan Best: And you know what?

  404. Ryan Best: They inspire others to hope.

  405. Ryan Best: See, spring reminds us that after every winter comes

  406. Ryan Best: strength for the journey ahead.

  407. Ryan Best: All right.

  408. Ryan Best: Let's, uh, there's a, there's a

  409. Ryan Best: real powerful prayer about

  410. Ryan Best: renewal.

  411. Ryan Best: And it's in Psalm, Psalm fifty

  412. Ryan Best: one, verse ten, and it says,

  413. Ryan Best: create in me a clean heart, O

  414. Ryan Best: God.

  415. Ryan Best: Renew a loyal spirit within me.

  416. Ryan Best: And so King David, uh, after a very deep failure, cries out for

  417. Ryan Best: God to basically do heart surgery, create something brand

  418. Ryan Best: new and pure while restoring a spirit that stays faithful.

  419. Ryan Best: And I think that's a humble

  420. Ryan Best: request for an inner cleansing

  421. Ryan Best: and steadfastness that only God

  422. Ryan Best: can provide.

  423. Ryan Best: So, you know, like, like a like

  424. Ryan Best: a springtime rain that washes

  425. Ryan Best: away all the grime in the

  426. Ryan Best: winter.

  427. Ryan Best: We all need regular heart cleaning things like guilt,

  428. Ryan Best: shame, divided loyalties, or just hidden sin.

  429. Ryan Best: Those things can all weigh us down.

  430. Ryan Best: And it's it's in this

  431. Ryan Best: distracting this, this world is

  432. Ryan Best: just full of distractions and,

  433. Ryan Best: and temptations.

  434. Ryan Best: Uh, that's where, uh, our loyalty to God can waver.

  435. Ryan Best: And I think this, this verse reminds us that renewal starts

  436. Ryan Best: inside with a clean heart and a spirit that is realigned to God.

  437. Ryan Best: I think it calls us to honest confession and repentance, then

  438. Ryan Best: to invite God to reshape our desires and our attitudes.

  439. Ryan Best: So practically this.

  440. Ryan Best: This looks like regular

  441. Ryan Best: self-examination, self

  442. Ryan Best: accountability with other

  443. Ryan Best: trusted believers.

  444. Ryan Best: Um, and choosing daily habits that nurture loyalty, such as,

  445. Ryan Best: uh, reading scripture, uh, doing meditation, uh, uh, acts of

  446. Ryan Best: obedience, things like that.

  447. Ryan Best: Um, it changes how we respond when we stumble because we're

  448. Ryan Best: going to, and when we stumble instead of hiding.

  449. Ryan Best: This helps us learn to run to God for renewal.

  450. Ryan Best: You see, um, a dirty or disloyal heart, it leads to spiritual

  451. Ryan Best: stagnation and it creates a distance from God.

  452. Ryan Best: But a clean heart and a renewed

  453. Ryan Best: spirit brings joy and intimacy

  454. Ryan Best: with the father and the power to

  455. Ryan Best: live faithfully.

  456. Ryan Best: So in spring and all this fresh beauty that's coming out.

  457. Ryan Best: We see the possibility that God can make our inner lives bloom

  458. Ryan Best: again, no matter what the past is, and no matter how, how dark,

  459. Ryan Best: how how dirty the the winter of your lives have been.

  460. Ryan Best: God can make it new.

  461. Ryan Best: Amen.

  462. Ryan Best: All right.

  463. Ryan Best: Uh, here's a little word of hope

  464. Ryan Best: from Romans chapter twelve verse

  465. Ryan Best: two.

  466. Ryan Best: I like this one.

  467. Ryan Best: This was, uh, I used to be a youth director and, uh, this was

  468. Ryan Best: one of my favorite ones to, to, uh, teach the youth because as

  469. Ryan Best: you know, uh, they get confronted with all kinds of,

  470. Ryan Best: uh, worldly temptations and, um, themes and, uh, fads and stuff

  471. Ryan Best: that's going on.

  472. Ryan Best: So I'd like to read this one to them quite often.

  473. Ryan Best: It says, don't copy the behavior

  474. Ryan Best: and customs of this world, but

  475. Ryan Best: let God transform you into a new

  476. Ryan Best: person by changing the way you

  477. Ryan Best: think.

  478. Ryan Best: Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is

  479. Ryan Best: good and pleasing and perfect.

  480. Ryan Best: And you can imagine how that

  481. Ryan Best: could apply to some of our

  482. Ryan Best: youth.

  483. Ryan Best: Walking to walk into a school someday.

  484. Ryan Best: If you could just be a fly on a wall in a school.

  485. Ryan Best: Boy, the stuff that goes on there.

  486. Ryan Best: And sorry, parents, our kids are the greatest.

  487. Ryan Best: They're the best.

  488. Ryan Best: They're the most honest, good kids.

  489. Ryan Best: But man, they get around some other kids and it is easy.

  490. Ryan Best: It's easy to fall into those temptations because everybody

  491. Ryan Best: wants to fit in.

  492. Ryan Best: Everybody wants to have a place, and no one wants to feel like

  493. Ryan Best: they're the odd person out.

  494. Ryan Best: And so they find that it's easy

  495. Ryan Best: to copy the behaviors of the

  496. Ryan Best: world because that is what

  497. Ryan Best: that's what makes their day

  498. Ryan Best: better.

  499. Ryan Best: They just want someone to like them and they want to fit in.

  500. Ryan Best: And that sometimes means they just have to go with the flow.

  501. Ryan Best: But I read this verse and I remind them that like, that's

  502. Ryan Best: not what God calls us to do.

  503. Ryan Best: You're going to you're going to follow God.

  504. Ryan Best: You're going to be different.

  505. Ryan Best: You're going to stand out, that's for sure.

  506. Ryan Best: Especially, especially if you're in a school.

  507. Ryan Best: But even even as adults in our

  508. Ryan Best: communities, in our workplaces,

  509. Ryan Best: how many of you have been to a

  510. Ryan Best: restaurant and had have been

  511. Ryan Best: sitting around and it's kind of

  512. Ryan Best: busy?

  513. Ryan Best: Have you ever heard anyone having a faith based

  514. Ryan Best: conversation really loud?

  515. Ryan Best: It's not very common anymore.

  516. Ryan Best: And if you do, it draws your attention.

  517. Ryan Best: Why?

  518. Ryan Best: Because it's out of the ordinary.

  519. Ryan Best: Some people won't have those

  520. Ryan Best: conversations in public because

  521. Ryan Best: they don't want to rock the

  522. Ryan Best: boat.

  523. Ryan Best: They don't want to offend anyone.

  524. Ryan Best: Believers.

  525. Ryan Best: We don't want to offend someone with our faith.

  526. Ryan Best: Woohoo!

  527. Ryan Best: Right?

  528. Ryan Best: But you can see how even adults can struggle with this.

  529. Ryan Best: Imagine the struggles that that youth go through.

  530. Ryan Best: This, this can be this can be very difficult.

  531. Ryan Best: So again, don't copy the behaviors of this world.

  532. Ryan Best: That's not what God calls us to do.

  533. Ryan Best: Um, this, this piece of scripture tells us that true

  534. Ryan Best: renewal is not superficial.

  535. Ryan Best: True renewal is a deep

  536. Ryan Best: transformation that begins in

  537. Ryan Best: the mind.

  538. Ryan Best: So instead of conforming to

  539. Ryan Best: culture's patterns, all the

  540. Ryan Best: things that are going on around

  541. Ryan Best: us that the world is telling us

  542. Ryan Best: is cool and fun and right and

  543. Ryan Best: and good.

  544. Ryan Best: We instead allow God to renew our thoughts so we can discern

  545. Ryan Best: and live out his perfect will.

  546. Ryan Best: Springtime is is a time of very visible change, but real growth

  547. Ryan Best: happens beneath the surface.

  548. Ryan Best: Our our culture constantly, constantly pressures us to think

  549. Ryan Best: and live like everybody else.

  550. Ryan Best: Chase success, chase, comfort,

  551. Ryan Best: chase approval on the world's

  552. Ryan Best: terms.

  553. Ryan Best: Not.

  554. Ryan Best: Not God's.

  555. Ryan Best: If you.

  556. Ryan Best: If you.

  557. Ryan Best: If you want.

  558. Ryan Best: If you want.

  559. Ryan Best: I know I was going to say the mall, but man, you probably

  560. Ryan Best: wouldn't find anybody there.

  561. Ryan Best: But if you, you know, you went to a Friday night football game

  562. Ryan Best: and you walked around the stadium and you started asking

  563. Ryan Best: everybody a question, just, you know, man on the street had

  564. Ryan Best: yourself a little recorder.

  565. Ryan Best: You said, tell me what success is.

  566. Ryan Best: You're going to hear a lot of answers and you're going to hear

  567. Ryan Best: very few of them.

  568. Ryan Best: Uh, be rooted in faith.

  569. Ryan Best: They're going to say, big bank account, I got money.

  570. Ryan Best: Uh, I got a promotion.

  571. Ryan Best: I got a job.

  572. Ryan Best: Um, I if they're if they're kids, they might say I got an A

  573. Ryan Best: in my math class or I graduated.

  574. Ryan Best: I'm going to.

  575. Ryan Best: There'd be all kinds of answers.

  576. Ryan Best: There'd probably be very few that that would say, you know,

  577. Ryan Best: hey, what do I, what do I measure a success?

  578. Ryan Best: You know what?

  579. Ryan Best: I'm, I'm trusting in God and, and advancing his kingdom and

  580. Ryan Best: living out his his will on this earth and spreading the good

  581. Ryan Best: news to everyone that I see.

  582. Ryan Best: That's what I would define as success.

  583. Ryan Best: Probably not many people you're

  584. Ryan Best: going to hear give an answer

  585. Ryan Best: like that.

  586. Ryan Best: So I think that this this verse counters the, the viewpoint that

  587. Ryan Best: we need to go along with everything that culture tells us

  588. Ryan Best: on their terms with an invitation, uh, to a renewal of

  589. Ryan Best: the mind through God's truth.

  590. Ryan Best: You see, this challenges us to filter our inputs.

  591. Ryan Best: Now listen here, because this is hard.

  592. Ryan Best: Things that we read, things that

  593. Ryan Best: we watch, things that we

  594. Ryan Best: consume.

  595. Ryan Best: We've got we've got to filter that out.

  596. Ryan Best: And we got to fill our minds

  597. Ryan Best: with scripture worship and godly

  598. Ryan Best: community.

  599. Ryan Best: It's not easy, man.

  600. Ryan Best: Those Avenger movies were sure fun.

  601. Ryan Best: I've seen two people nod their heads so they knew that the

  602. Ryan Best: Avenger movies were okay.

  603. Ryan Best: Cool.

  604. Ryan Best: You're with me.

  605. Ryan Best: That's all right.

  606. Ryan Best: But there's some good movies out there.

  607. Ryan Best: There's some good music out there.

  608. Ryan Best: We all like them.

  609. Ryan Best: We want to watch them.

  610. Ryan Best: Right?

  611. Ryan Best: But sometimes.

  612. Ryan Best: Sometimes if you don't like, if

  613. Ryan Best: you don't know how to, if you

  614. Ryan Best: don't know how to filter out

  615. Ryan Best: what what's coming into your

  616. Ryan Best: life.

  617. Ryan Best: Uh, boy, you can really start,

  618. Ryan Best: uh, allowing those things to

  619. Ryan Best: really base how you live your

  620. Ryan Best: life now.

  621. Ryan Best: I mean, I know when I was a

  622. Ryan Best: little kid, I wanted to be a

  623. Ryan Best: superhero too.

  624. Ryan Best: For those of you that didn't

  625. Ryan Best: know the Avengers superhero

  626. Ryan Best: movie, right?

  627. Ryan Best: So yeah, I read comic books and watched Saturday morning

  628. Ryan Best: cartoons that had superheroes, and I wanted to be a superhero.

  629. Ryan Best: That was the coolest thing ever.

  630. Ryan Best: Now, one of my favorite superheroes was Superman because

  631. Ryan Best: he could fly.

  632. Ryan Best: And you know what?

  633. Ryan Best: After reading a lot of comic books and watching a lot of

  634. Ryan Best: movies, you know what?

  635. Ryan Best: You know what Ryan thought he could do.

  636. Ryan Best: He was pretty sure he could do it.

  637. Ryan Best: Climbed up in a tree and took a jump.

  638. Ryan Best: And praise the Lord.

  639. Ryan Best: I didn't break anything.

  640. Ryan Best: But boy, did my dad yell at me.

  641. Ryan Best: He. I mean, he had he was pointing out something about how

  642. Ryan Best: stupid I was and what made me think that I could fly.

  643. Ryan Best: And I was like, I don't know, you know?

  644. Ryan Best: Well, Superman's not real.

  645. Ryan Best: I don't know, he looks pretty real on the TV and he flies.

  646. Ryan Best: So. And although that's a that's a that's a nice, funny analogy.

  647. Ryan Best: You can see how the things that

  648. Ryan Best: we allow to come into our minds

  649. Ryan Best: and into our lives can have that

  650. Ryan Best: effect.

  651. Ryan Best: Things that you, uh, today, you might be very strong in your, in

  652. Ryan Best: your convictions and your belief on how this works today.

  653. Ryan Best: Watch enough.

  654. Ryan Best: Listen to enough things that are against that and your mind

  655. Ryan Best: starts to soften.

  656. Ryan Best: You'll find yourself very easily shifting because, I mean, that's

  657. Ryan Best: how influence works.

  658. Ryan Best: So you gotta, you gotta learn how to filter that out.

  659. Ryan Best: And, um, when we, when, when we do this, we'll avoid, um,

  660. Ryan Best: drifting into, uh, conformity and because if we, if we drift

  661. Ryan Best: into conformity, then I think we really miss God's best for us.

  662. Ryan Best: But if we just let him transform

  663. Ryan Best: our thoughts, then you know

  664. Ryan Best: what?

  665. Ryan Best: We discover freedom.

  666. Ryan Best: We get clarity and.

  667. Ryan Best: And the joy of living his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

  668. Ryan Best: And I think that that springs new growth.

  669. Ryan Best: It mirrors this.

  670. Ryan Best: It renewed minds produce renewed

  671. Ryan Best: lives that bless the world

  672. Ryan Best: around us.

  673. Ryan Best: All right.

  674. Ryan Best: Last piece of scripture this morning, second Corinthians

  675. Ryan Best: chapter five, verse seventeen.

  676. Ryan Best: This means that anyone who

  677. Ryan Best: belongs to Christ has become a

  678. Ryan Best: new person.

  679. Ryan Best: The old life is gone.

  680. Ryan Best: A new life has begun.

  681. Ryan Best: See, when we belong to Jesus, we

  682. Ryan Best: are not just improved, we are

  683. Ryan Best: completely remade.

  684. Ryan Best: That old identity, the old patterns of sin and shame, the

  685. Ryan Best: old way of living, everything that we did, it's gone.

  686. Ryan Best: And then place that is a brand

  687. Ryan Best: new life powered by the Holy

  688. Ryan Best: Spirit.

  689. Ryan Best: It's resurrection reality right now.

  690. Ryan Best: And man, and I like to talk a

  691. Ryan Best: lot about the culture we live in

  692. Ryan Best: right now.

  693. Ryan Best: But boy, it's obsessed with

  694. Ryan Best: self-help makeovers,

  695. Ryan Best: reinvention, you know, and and

  696. Ryan Best: this, this though this is the

  697. Ryan Best: ultimate upgrade.

  698. Ryan Best: It doesn't matter whether you're battling anxiety, addiction,

  699. Ryan Best: perfectionism, or, or just that, that slow drift of complacency,

  700. Ryan Best: Christ doesn't offer a better version of the old you.

  701. Ryan Best: He offers a new you.

  702. Ryan Best: Spring is the perfect picture of that.

  703. Ryan Best: What looked dead is suddenly alive and fruitful.

  704. Ryan Best: So we stop living like the old person that we were.

  705. Ryan Best: Our choices, our words, our priorities, and our

  706. Ryan Best: relationships begin to reflect this new identity.

  707. Ryan Best: We forgive more quickly.

  708. Ryan Best: We love more boldly, we serve more profoundly.

  709. Ryan Best: And we pursue holiness not out of guilt, but out of gratitude.

  710. Ryan Best: It touches it touches everything in our lives, how we parent, how

  711. Ryan Best: we work, how we spend our time and our money.

  712. Ryan Best: But without this, this new life in Christ, well, we're just

  713. Ryan Best: going to end up trapped in the old cycle of striving for things

  714. Ryan Best: and falling short.

  715. Ryan Best: And then, well, I'm going to do it better next time.

  716. Ryan Best: So I'm going to work harder and we're going to fall short.

  717. Ryan Best: But if we embrace our identity

  718. Ryan Best: as new creations, well then that

  719. Ryan Best: is going to bring freedom,

  720. Ryan Best: peace, and power to live the

  721. Ryan Best: abundant life that Jesus

  722. Ryan Best: promised.

  723. Ryan Best: And I think it's the very heart of the gospel, and it's the

  724. Ryan Best: reason that the church exists.

  725. Ryan Best: We are here to display this renewal to a watching world.

  726. Ryan Best: And you know what?

  727. Ryan Best: When we have those conversations that catch people's attention

  728. Ryan Best: because we're in a restaurant and we're not supposed to be

  729. Ryan Best: having these types of words said when others are in there because

  730. Ryan Best: we might offend them.

  731. Ryan Best: They hear, they see.

  732. Ryan Best: And you know what?

  733. Ryan Best: Just because we don't fit in, and just because it might make

  734. Ryan Best: them uncomfortable doesn't mean we should stop doing it.

  735. Ryan Best: So spring is here, and so is God's invitation.

  736. Ryan Best: His mercies.

  737. Ryan Best: They are new every morning.

  738. Ryan Best: He is already doing a new thing in your life.

  739. Ryan Best: In Christ, you are a brand new

  740. Ryan Best: person and I think that he

  741. Ryan Best: renews your strength as you wait

  742. Ryan Best: on him and he creates a clean

  743. Ryan Best: heart when you ask, and he will

  744. Ryan Best: transform your mind as you yield

  745. Ryan Best: to him.

  746. Ryan Best: So this this week, I challenge you.

  747. Ryan Best: A few things begin each morning claiming Lamentations three,

  748. Ryan Best: twenty two, and twenty three.

  749. Ryan Best: I want you to look for the new

  750. Ryan Best: thing that God is doing in your

  751. Ryan Best: life, and I want you to say yes

  752. Ryan Best: to it.

  753. Ryan Best: I want you to live today as the new creation that you already

  754. Ryan Best: are in Christ.

  755. Ryan Best: And as Isaiah chapter forty told

  756. Ryan Best: us, wait on the Lord for fresh

  757. Ryan Best: strength.

  758. Ryan Best: Pray Psalm fifty one ten for a clean heart.

  759. Ryan Best: and finally allow God to renew your mind through His Word.

  760. Ryan Best: If you've never fully

  761. Ryan Best: surrendered your life to Jesus,

  762. Ryan Best: or if you just need a fresh

  763. Ryan Best: start today, this is the time to

  764. Ryan Best: do it.

  765. Ryan Best: This is the place to do it.

  766. Ryan Best: I just want to close this

  767. Ryan Best: message this morning with a

  768. Ryan Best: prayer.

  769. Ryan Best: So if you would join me, please.

  770. Ryan Best: Gracious God, just thank you for

  771. Ryan Best: the gift of spring and the the

  772. Ryan Best: greater gift of spiritual

  773. Ryan Best: renewal.

  774. Ryan Best: Father, we just ask that you

  775. Ryan Best: wash us clean with your fresh

  776. Ryan Best: mercies.

  777. Ryan Best: Just open our eyes to to the new thing that you're doing.

  778. Ryan Best: And father, renew our strength.

  779. Ryan Best: Create clean hearts within us, transform our minds and make us

  780. Ryan Best: new creations in Christ.

  781. Ryan Best: Just eager to live for your glory.

  782. Ryan Best: And it's in the name of Jesus,

  783. Ryan Best: our risen Lord and Savior, we

  784. Ryan Best: pray.

  785. Ryan Best: Amen.
