  1. Nichole Bache: Going to move into our morning message this morning.

  2. Nichole Bache: It's titled don't Visit Dwell.

  3. Nichole Bache: And our main scripture is going to be from Psalm ninety one,

  4. Nichole Bache: verse one and two.

  5. Nichole Bache: Excuse me if you'd like to turn there.

  6. Nichole Bache: That's where we're going to kind of start from.

  7. Nichole Bache: I do have other scriptures that

  8. Nichole Bache: will be sprinkled in throughout

  9. Nichole Bache: the sermon.

  10. Nichole Bache: There are some scriptures that

  11. Nichole Bache: people run to when their life

  12. Nichole Bache: feels uncertain.

  13. Nichole Bache: Some passages we quote when fear creeps in.

  14. Nichole Bache: Some verses we hold on to when things feel out of control.

  15. Nichole Bache: And one of the most quoted, most loved passages in Scripture Is

  16. Nichole Bache: Psalm ninety one.

  17. Nichole Bache: But here's the problem.

  18. Nichole Bache: Most people treat Psalm ninety one like a slogan.

  19. Nichole Bache: When it was meant to be a

  20. Nichole Bache: lifestyle, we quote it when

  21. Nichole Bache: we're scared.

  22. Nichole Bache: We read it when we're anxious.

  23. Nichole Bache: We declare it when things feel unstable.

  24. Nichole Bache: But Psalm ninety one was never meant to be occasional.

  25. Nichole Bache: It's positional.

  26. Nichole Bache: Listen to how it begins.

  27. Nichole Bache: Whosoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in

  28. Nichole Bache: the shadow of the Almighty.

  29. Nichole Bache: The key word is dwells.

  30. Nichole Bache: Not visits, not occasionally shows up.

  31. Nichole Bache: not runs there in a crisis, but dwells.

  32. Nichole Bache: My first point today is that the promise is positional.

  33. Nichole Bache: The promise in Psalms ninety one are powerful.

  34. Nichole Bache: They offer protection,

  35. Nichole Bache: deliverance, peace, security,

  36. Nichole Bache: and covering.

  37. Nichole Bache: But those promises are not random.

  38. Nichole Bache: They're connected to your position.

  39. Nichole Bache: Whoever dwells.

  40. Nichole Bache: That means there's a condition before the promise, not a

  41. Nichole Bache: condition of earning, but a condition of proximity.

  42. Nichole Bache: You don't accidentally live covered.

  43. Nichole Bache: You choose to stay close if you stand in the rain without an

  44. Nichole Bache: umbrella, you will get wet.

  45. Nichole Bache: But if you step under a shelter, the rain will still fall, but it

  46. Nichole Bache: doesn't touch you the same way.

  47. Nichole Bache: The shelter didn't stop the storm.

  48. Nichole Bache: It changed your experience in the storm.

  49. Nichole Bache: That's what Psalm ninety one is saying.

  50. Nichole Bache: Come near to God and he will come near to you.

  51. Nichole Bache: James four eight.

  52. Nichole Bache: God is not distant, but closeness requires intention.

  53. Nichole Bache: Which brings us to our second point.

  54. Nichole Bache: The secret place is built daily.

  55. Nichole Bache: Psalm ninety one talks about the shelter of the Most High and the

  56. Nichole Bache: shadow of the Almighty.

  57. Nichole Bache: This is often called the secret place, not because it's hidden

  58. Nichole Bache: from God, but because it's hidden from distraction.

  59. Nichole Bache: It's a daily place.

  60. Nichole Bache: The quiet place, the consistent place, the place where you meet

  61. Nichole Bache: God when nothing is urgent but everything is being built.

  62. Nichole Bache: Jesus modeled this this for us in Mark one thirty five.

  63. Nichole Bache: Very early in the morning, while

  64. Nichole Bache: it was still dark, Jesus got up,

  65. Nichole Bache: left the house, and went off to

  66. Nichole Bache: a solitary place where he

  67. Nichole Bache: prayed.

  68. Nichole Bache: If Jesus needed this secret

  69. Nichole Bache: place, how much more do we need

  70. Nichole Bache: it?

  71. Nichole Bache: But here's the problem that we run into today.

  72. Nichole Bache: The enemy doesn't always try to destroy you.

  73. Nichole Bache: He distracts you.

  74. Nichole Bache: Busyness, noise, constant

  75. Nichole Bache: activity, and spiritual

  76. Nichole Bache: complacency.

  77. Nichole Bache: He does this because if he can

  78. Nichole Bache: keep you out of that secret

  79. Nichole Bache: place, he can keep you

  80. Nichole Bache: spiritually weak.

  81. Nichole Bache: So the truth you need to take

  82. Nichole Bache: from this point is that if you

  83. Nichole Bache: is that you don't drift into

  84. Nichole Bache: God's presence.

  85. Nichole Bache: You decide to dwell there.

  86. Nichole Bache: My next point is that refuge and

  87. Nichole Bache: forgiveness or refuge and

  88. Nichole Bache: fortress are experienced, not

  89. Nichole Bache: just declared.

  90. Nichole Bache: If we turn back to our main

  91. Nichole Bache: text, Psalm ninety one, Verse

  92. Nichole Bache: two tells us, I will say to the

  93. Nichole Bache: Lord, he is my refuge and my

  94. Nichole Bache: fortress, my God, in whom I

  95. Nichole Bache: trust.

  96. Nichole Bache: Let's break that down here for a moment.

  97. Nichole Bache: What is a refuge?

  98. Nichole Bache: It's a shelter.

  99. Nichole Bache: Protection.

  100. Nichole Bache: Safety from danger, distress or trouble.

  101. Nichole Bache: It can't touch you there.

  102. Nichole Bache: It's a place that you run to.

  103. Nichole Bache: A fortress is a heavily

  104. Nichole Bache: fortified or strategically

  105. Nichole Bache: designed area.

  106. Nichole Bache: It's a place where you are protected and not exposed.

  107. Nichole Bache: But here's the key.

  108. Nichole Bache: You can't experience God as a fortress if you keep living

  109. Nichole Bache: outside the walls.

  110. Nichole Bache: You can't claim refuge if you only visit occasionally.

  111. Nichole Bache: Imagine someone standing in their driveway in the middle of

  112. Nichole Bache: a horrendous storm and saying, this house will protect me.

  113. Nichole Bache: The protection is real, but it

  114. Nichole Bache: only works if you stand inside

  115. Nichole Bache: the house.

  116. Nichole Bache: Proverbs eighteen ten tells us, the name of the Lord is a

  117. Nichole Bache: fortress, is a fortified tower.

  118. Nichole Bache: The righteous run to it and are safe.

  119. Nichole Bache: Notice.

  120. Nichole Bache: Run to it.

  121. Nichole Bache: But Psalm ninety one takes it further.

  122. Nichole Bache: Not just run.

  123. Nichole Bache: Remain.

  124. Nichole Bache: Now if we look on to point four

  125. Nichole Bache: today, the enemy fights your

  126. Nichole Bache: dwelling.

  127. Nichole Bache: The enemy understands something that many believers forget a

  128. Nichole Bache: believer who lives in God's presence is not easily shaken.

  129. Nichole Bache: So what does the enemy do?

  130. Nichole Bache: He tries to pull you out of that presence, out of that place,

  131. Nichole Bache: that secret place that you go to be with God.

  132. Nichole Bache: Not always through obvious sin, but through subtle shifts.

  133. Nichole Bache: You're too busy today.

  134. Nichole Bache: You'll pray later.

  135. Nichole Bache: You don't need to do that.

  136. Nichole Bache: You can get to it tomorrow.

  137. Nichole Bache: That devotional.

  138. Nichole Bache: It'll be there next week.

  139. Nichole Bache: And suddenly days pass.

  140. Nichole Bache: Distance grows and you feel exposed.

  141. Nichole Bache: We can read in First Peter five eight.

  142. Nichole Bache: Be alert and of sober mind.

  143. Nichole Bache: Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion.

  144. Nichole Bache: He is not just attacking your

  145. Nichole Bache: life, he's targeting your

  146. Nichole Bache: connection.

  147. Nichole Bache: Because if he can disconnect you

  148. Nichole Bache: from God, he can destabilize

  149. Nichole Bache: you.

  150. Nichole Bache: My final point that I want to

  151. Nichole Bache: bring out from this today is a

  152. Nichole Bache: life that dwells is a life that

  153. Nichole Bache: anchors.

  154. Nichole Bache: When you dwell in God's

  155. Nichole Bache: presence, you're not easily

  156. Nichole Bache: shaken.

  157. Nichole Bache: You're not easily overwhelmed.

  158. Nichole Bache: You're not easily led by fear,

  159. Nichole Bache: not because life is easy, but

  160. Nichole Bache: because you are anchored in your

  161. Nichole Bache: faith.

  162. Nichole Bache: We can look to Psalms forty six one and two.

  163. Nichole Bache: God is our refuge and our

  164. Nichole Bache: strength, an ever present help

  165. Nichole Bache: in trouble.

  166. Nichole Bache: Therefore we will not fear.

  167. Nichole Bache: Notice there ever present God is constant.

  168. Nichole Bache: The question is, are we.

  169. Nichole Bache: So to bring this all together this morning, we need to ask,

  170. Nichole Bache: how do we dwell in the shelter of the Most High?

  171. Nichole Bache: It isn't complicated, but it is intentional.

  172. Nichole Bache: First, we need to return daily, not just when things go wrong.

  173. Nichole Bache: We need to seek God out each and every day.

  174. Nichole Bache: Take time to create that personal relationship with him.

  175. Nichole Bache: Second, we need to create that quiet place.

  176. Nichole Bache: Turn off the distractions.

  177. Nichole Bache: Be still.

  178. Nichole Bache: And I know this is hard.

  179. Nichole Bache: There are so many things pulling our attention in ten different

  180. Nichole Bache: directions at the same time.

  181. Nichole Bache: But God commands us to do this.

  182. Nichole Bache: In Psalm forty six ten, he says, be still and know that I am God.

  183. Nichole Bache: Third, we need to stay consistent.

  184. Nichole Bache: Consistency builds intimacy with the busy lives that everyone

  185. Nichole Bache: seems to live today.

  186. Nichole Bache: You may need to schedule time in your day as a non-negotiable,

  187. Nichole Bache: just like you make time for important worldly relationships.

  188. Nichole Bache: Make nurturing your relationship with God a priority.

  189. Nichole Bache: Four.

  190. Nichole Bache: Don't rush the presence.

  191. Nichole Bache: God is not a checklist.

  192. Nichole Bache: He is a relationship.

  193. Nichole Bache: The more time you spend with him, the more time you will want

  194. Nichole Bache: to spend with him.

  195. Nichole Bache: So here's the challenge for you this week church.

  196. Nichole Bache: Don't just visit God when you need something.

  197. Nichole Bache: Live there.

  198. Nichole Bache: Return daily.

  199. Nichole Bache: Stay consistently.

  200. Nichole Bache: Build your life in his presence.

  201. Nichole Bache: Because Psalm ninety one is not just something you read.

  202. Nichole Bache: It's somewhere you remain.

  203. Nichole Bache: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the

  204. Nichole Bache: shelter of the Almighty.

  205. Nichole Bache: Psalm ninety one one.

  206. Nichole Bache: And when you dwell, you don't just survive the storm, you are

  207. Nichole Bache: covered in it.

  208. Nichole Bache: Amen.
