  1. Brother Jim: On the board for you.

  2. Brother Jim: As we head into a new series here.

  3. Brother Jim: And as you mark those down, let me read something to you.

  4. Brother Jim: A little country church once had a sign hanging over its front

  5. Brother Jim: doors that read, you are now entering the mission field.

  6. Brother Jim: For years, people walked past

  7. Brother Jim: the sign without really thinking

  8. Brother Jim: about thinking about what it

  9. Brother Jim: really meant.

  10. Brother Jim: They came to church every Sunday.

  11. Brother Jim: They sang the hymns, they listened to the sermons, and

  12. Brother Jim: then they went home unchanged.

  13. Brother Jim: One Sunday, an elderly man in the church named Walter noticed

  14. Brother Jim: a teenage boy sitting alone outside a grocery store.

  15. Brother Jim: The boy looked defeated.

  16. Brother Jim: He looked broken.

  17. Brother Jim: Walter felt God tugging at his

  18. Brother Jim: heart to speak to him, but fear

  19. Brother Jim: crept in.

  20. Brother Jim: What if he doesn't want to talk to me?

  21. Brother Jim: What if I say something wrong?

  22. Brother Jim: As Walter stood there wrestling with fear, he remembered the

  23. Brother Jim: words of Jesus from the Bible.

  24. Brother Jim: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.

  25. Brother Jim: So Walter walked over, introduced himself, and simply

  26. Brother Jim: said, son, are you okay?

  27. Brother Jim: That conversation nearly lasted two hours.

  28. Brother Jim: The young man opened up about his struggles, his broken home,

  29. Brother Jim: and how he felt.

  30. Brother Jim: Nobody.

  31. Brother Jim: Nobody cared about him.

  32. Brother Jim: Walter listened.

  33. Brother Jim: Walter prayed with him, and Walter invited him to church.

  34. Brother Jim: Weeks later, that young man gave his life to Christ.

  35. Brother Jim: Years passed and that same

  36. Brother Jim: teenager became a youth pastor

  37. Brother Jim: who led hundreds of young people

  38. Brother Jim: to Jesus.

  39. Brother Jim: One small act, my friends of

  40. Brother Jim: obedience changed countless

  41. Brother Jim: lives.

  42. Brother Jim: The Great Commission is not

  43. Brother Jim: always about standing before

  44. Brother Jim: crowds or traveling across the

  45. Brother Jim: world.

  46. Brother Jim: Sometimes it begins with one conversation, one invitation,

  47. Brother Jim: one moment of courage.

  48. Brother Jim: Jesus did not call, didn't call of us.

  49. Brother Jim: All of us, to be famous.

  50. Brother Jim: What he did do was call us to be faithful.

  51. Brother Jim: And every time a believer chooses to go.

  52. Brother Jim: God can use that obedience to change a life forever.

  53. Brother Jim: I gotta be honest today.

  54. Brother Jim: I have been waiting for a while

  55. Brother Jim: to sink my teeth into this

  56. Brother Jim: series.

  57. Brother Jim: Into this.

  58. Brother Jim: We're going to be discussing the Great Commission.

  59. Brother Jim: But better yet, what is our mission church?

  60. Brother Jim: What is our vision?

  61. Brother Jim: What is our values?

  62. Brother Jim: Now, to me, that's a very good question.

  63. Brother Jim: You can call me pastor.

  64. Brother Jim: You can call me Shepherd, you can call me Brother Jim.

  65. Brother Jim: You can call me whatever you want.

  66. Brother Jim: But at the end of the day, I

  67. Brother Jim: have to answer to God because

  68. Brother Jim: there is a calling put on my

  69. Brother Jim: life.

  70. Brother Jim: You are my flock.

  71. Brother Jim: You are my church.

  72. Brother Jim: You are my people, and I care.

  73. Brother Jim: I cannot stress that enough.

  74. Brother Jim: But also in life, let's be honest, complacency creeps in,

  75. Brother Jim: does it not?

  76. Brother Jim: How many of us and Brother Jim

  77. Brother Jim: knows from his own personal

  78. Brother Jim: life?

  79. Brother Jim: It is so easy to come in on a Sunday morning, pick up that

  80. Brother Jim: Christian hat, put it on your head, sit in the service for an

  81. Brother Jim: hour and a half.

  82. Brother Jim: Walk out there.

  83. Brother Jim: Put your little Christian hat

  84. Brother Jim: back on the coat hook and walk

  85. Brother Jim: outside and live the rest of

  86. Brother Jim: your life for the week in the

  87. Brother Jim: world.

  88. Brother Jim: True, it is my job, my responsibility, to make sure you

  89. Brother Jim: understand what we are called to do as a church.

  90. Brother Jim: And that weighs very heavy on my

  91. Brother Jim: heart as well as I hope it

  92. Brother Jim: weighs heavy on your heart this

  93. Brother Jim: morning.

  94. Brother Jim: So again, I have been waiting patiently to get into this

  95. Brother Jim: because I am very concerned that we sometimes become complacent.

  96. Brother Jim: Because let's be honest, as we get into this look around the

  97. Brother Jim: world today, what is going on?

  98. Brother Jim: And as I said Wednesday night,

  99. Brother Jim: it's not going to get any

  100. Brother Jim: better.

  101. Brother Jim: So again, I want you to think about all those little ones that

  102. Brother Jim: just went out for junior church.

  103. Brother Jim: You look at the precious baby right back there with Mike and

  104. Brother Jim: Ruth, our little grandchildren.

  105. Brother Jim: What are we doing?

  106. Brother Jim: Church to make sure they understand what the love of

  107. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ is, what Jesus Christ did for us.

  108. Brother Jim: So yeah, I'm going to be a

  109. Brother Jim: little bit passionate this

  110. Brother Jim: morning.

  111. Brother Jim: And as I said, when I first came the day, the very first day, I'm

  112. Brother Jim: going to be the biggest, ugliest cheerleader you've ever had.

  113. Brother Jim: So today it might get a little ugly out of love.

  114. Brother Jim: It's a challenge.

  115. Brother Jim: And we're just going to skim the

  116. Brother Jim: top surface of what the Great

  117. Brother Jim: Commission is.

  118. Brother Jim: So if you would get your Bibles out with me.

  119. Brother Jim: We're going to go to Matthew twenty eight eighteen to twenty.

  120. Brother Jim: And Jesus came and spoke to

  121. Brother Jim: them, saying, all authority has

  122. Brother Jim: been given to me in heaven and

  123. Brother Jim: on earth.

  124. Brother Jim: Go therefore and make disciples

  125. Brother Jim: of all nations, baptizing them

  126. Brother Jim: in the name of the father and of

  127. Brother Jim: the son, and of the Holy Spirit,

  128. Brother Jim: teaching them to observe all

  129. Brother Jim: things that I have commanded

  130. Brother Jim: you.

  131. Brother Jim: And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

  132. Brother Jim: Amen.

  133. Brother Jim: Church.

  134. Brother Jim: There are many last words recorded throughout history that

  135. Brother Jim: have carried tremendous weight that we've heard or maybe had an

  136. Brother Jim: impact in our life.

  137. Brother Jim: The final words of a dying loved one or a patient, a parent.

  138. Brother Jim: Even, God forbid, a child.

  139. Brother Jim: The last instructions of a military commander.

  140. Brother Jim: The closing thoughts of a beloved leader or teacher.

  141. Brother Jim: But there are no words more important than the final earthly

  142. Brother Jim: command of Jesus Christ before he ascended into heaven.

  143. Brother Jim: And these words, my friends,

  144. Brother Jim: they are not merely a

  145. Brother Jim: suggestion.

  146. Brother Jim: They are not optional.

  147. Brother Jim: They're not only for pastors, missionaries, or evangelists.

  148. Brother Jim: They are the marching orders for every believer.

  149. Brother Jim: Now, if you're going to claim to

  150. Brother Jim: be a believer and follower of

  151. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ, this applies to

  152. Brother Jim: you today.

  153. Brother Jim: So you might want to pay

  154. Brother Jim: attention to these words,

  155. Brother Jim: because I want to remind you all

  156. Brother Jim: that one day we will all stand

  157. Brother Jim: before final judgment, will we

  158. Brother Jim: not?

  159. Brother Jim: And Lord knows I've got a lot to answer for.

  160. Brother Jim: But here's the only thing that's going to save my sorry backside

  161. Brother Jim: from hell is Jesus Christ.

  162. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone.

  163. Brother Jim: The Great Commission is the mission of the church.

  164. Brother Jim: It is the heartbeat of God.

  165. Brother Jim: If we really think about it, the heartbeat.

  166. Brother Jim: Think how vital your heartbeat is.

  167. Brother Jim: It's the reason you and I are still here.

  168. Brother Jim: You ever wonder why you were born in this time period?

  169. Brother Jim: Do you ever wonder that?

  170. Brother Jim: And I've come to the revelation, if you will.

  171. Brother Jim: There is a reason I am here right now.

  172. Brother Jim: And if one soul hears the seeds that I can plant or something to

  173. Brother Jim: chew on for the week, then that is well worth it.

  174. Brother Jim: That leads them just like that

  175. Brother Jim: little boy like Walter took the

  176. Brother Jim: time to offer an ear to

  177. Brother Jim: somebody.

  178. Brother Jim: This young man who was lost because nobody cared.

  179. Brother Jim: Do we find that in our world today?

  180. Brother Jim: How many people would raise

  181. Brother Jim: their hand and say, nobody

  182. Brother Jim: cares?

  183. Brother Jim: If God's only purpose was to

  184. Brother Jim: save us and immediately take us

  185. Brother Jim: to heaven.

  186. Brother Jim: He could have done that the moment we were converted.

  187. Brother Jim: Could he have not?

  188. Brother Jim: Think about it.

  189. Brother Jim: Why go through all this.

  190. Brother Jim: But he didn't.

  191. Brother Jim: He left us here for a reason.

  192. Brother Jim: And that reason is to glorify.

  193. Brother Jim: Glorify him.

  194. Brother Jim: And oh, baby, how sweet it is to

  195. Brother Jim: bring other people to Jesus

  196. Brother Jim: Christ.

  197. Brother Jim: Now, if you have done that in your life, you've said the

  198. Brother Jim: sinner's prayer with somebody.

  199. Brother Jim: You've seen the transformation.

  200. Brother Jim: If you were just that small of an inkling of helping them, is

  201. Brother Jim: it not worth it?

  202. Brother Jim: And doesn't it make you feel good?

  203. Brother Jim: Doesn't it put a smile on your face?

  204. Brother Jim: Doesn't it give you a joyous

  205. Brother Jim: heart to say, oh, thank you,

  206. Brother Jim: God, because I was a part of

  207. Brother Jim: that?

  208. Brother Jim: So this Sunday morning, I challenge you as followers of

  209. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ as well as the body of Rockford Church.

  210. Brother Jim: Are we obeying the Great Commission?

  211. Brother Jim: Are we making disciples and are we sharing the gospel?

  212. Brother Jim: It can all look good on paper, can it?

  213. Brother Jim: But I want to dig deeper into the main function of this

  214. Brother Jim: church, into the main function.

  215. Brother Jim: What you truly believe as believers of Jesus Christ.

  216. Brother Jim: Because again, our time is so important.

  217. Brother Jim: Our time is so precious.

  218. Brother Jim: It is easy and I know it.

  219. Brother Jim: I'm going to get my Bible today.

  220. Brother Jim: I'm going to be kind to somebody.

  221. Brother Jim: But hey baby, I gotta go.

  222. Brother Jim: Everybody's on a fast track, are they not?

  223. Brother Jim: I was telling Mr. Cunningham back there the other night.

  224. Brother Jim: I was out there in the back field.

  225. Brother Jim: And you know what I heard?

  226. Brother Jim: It was right before dark.

  227. Brother Jim: The birds were putting on an

  228. Brother Jim: orchestra like you've never

  229. Brother Jim: heard.

  230. Brother Jim: And I said, this has got to be a little bit of heaven right here.

  231. Brother Jim: But again.

  232. Brother Jim: And I told Carl, I said, I thank God I didn't have my phone

  233. Brother Jim: because I just listened.

  234. Brother Jim: And is that not part of the part of being a Christian, as a

  235. Brother Jim: follower of Christ, to open yourself up, to listen to people

  236. Brother Jim: to take the time.

  237. Brother Jim: Something to think about.

  238. Brother Jim: Are we living our lives dedicated to this mission?

  239. Brother Jim: Dedicated.

  240. Brother Jim: Now, church, here's a warning for all of us today.

  241. Brother Jim: Because a church that forgets the Great Commission eventually

  242. Brother Jim: loses its what?

  243. Brother Jim: Its spiritual fire.

  244. Brother Jim: You ever been fired up about something?

  245. Brother Jim: You ever have a passion for something?

  246. Brother Jim: It's a good thing, isn't it?

  247. Brother Jim: But like anything, sometimes it comes to an end, doesn't it?

  248. Brother Jim: So what can we do to keep that fire going?

  249. Brother Jim: That dedication, that

  250. Brother Jim: determination going in our lives

  251. Brother Jim: right here.

  252. Brother Jim: Let's turn it over.

  253. Brother Jim: How many people again, will die

  254. Brother Jim: in this amount of time not

  255. Brother Jim: knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and

  256. Brother Jim: Savior?

  257. Brother Jim: What if you get a phone call

  258. Brother Jim: right now, God forbid, in the

  259. Brother Jim: middle of the service saying,

  260. Brother Jim: hey, your loved one just died

  261. Brother Jim: and they didn't know Jesus

  262. Brother Jim: Christ?

  263. Brother Jim: That concerns me.

  264. Brother Jim: My friends and I pray it concerns you as well.

  265. Brother Jim: Because even though death is hard, it's hard to say goodbye.

  266. Brother Jim: But when we know that person belonged to Jesus Christ and had

  267. Brother Jim: him as his personal, he or she is his personal Savior.

  268. Brother Jim: It is a celebration as well because they are home.

  269. Brother Jim: They are no longer walking the stinking earth.

  270. Brother Jim: Even with all its glory, all its beauty, we still have sin here,

  271. Brother Jim: do we not?

  272. Brother Jim: Warning my friends.

  273. Brother Jim: Well, Brother Jim, what is the great commission that you have

  274. Brother Jim: been speaking of?

  275. Brother Jim: I have heard the word sprinkled sprinkled around on a Sunday

  276. Brother Jim: morning, or during Bible study or Wednesday night service.

  277. Brother Jim: I heard great grandma talking about it.

  278. Brother Jim: But how many of us truly understand the Great Commission?

  279. Brother Jim: The Great Commission in our

  280. Brother Jim: world today is the command of

  281. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ for believers who

  282. Brother Jim: to go into the world, share the

  283. Brother Jim: gospel, make disciples, and

  284. Brother Jim: teach people to follow him, not

  285. Brother Jim: to follow the church, not to

  286. Brother Jim: follow a pastor, not to follow

  287. Brother Jim: some saint, but to follow who

  288. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ

  289. Brother Jim: alone.

  290. Brother Jim: And that is where we are in so much trouble today.

  291. Brother Jim: True.

  292. Brother Jim: Come on now.

  293. Brother Jim: Don't.

  294. Brother Jim: Don't back off on me.

  295. Brother Jim: With me here.

  296. Brother Jim: Follow me on this.

  297. Brother Jim: Because it is coming.

  298. Brother Jim: Because of a concern, my friends.

  299. Brother Jim: It comes from the Bible, the Word of God, where Jesus says

  300. Brother Jim: again from verse nineteen, as we stated just a few moments ago

  301. Brother Jim: there, go therefore and make disciples of all nations.

  302. Brother Jim: But you know what?

  303. Brother Jim: How many times we get concerned on what over in the other parts

  304. Brother Jim: of the the world, which is great, don't get me wrong.

  305. Brother Jim: But what about in our own backyard?

  306. Brother Jim: How about the people we see all the time when we go to Walmart?

  307. Brother Jim: The person when we go through

  308. Brother Jim: the car wash up here on West

  309. Brother Jim: High.

  310. Brother Jim: What about those people?

  311. Brother Jim: The person we go through at Burger King.

  312. Brother Jim: What about those?

  313. Brother Jim: What about the ones we see that we're going to see here coming

  314. Brother Jim: up next weekend, Memorial Day, summer picnics, even those

  315. Brother Jim: family members we can't stand.

  316. Brother Jim: Don't they deserve our best?

  317. Brother Jim: Don't they deserve our love?

  318. Brother Jim: Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations.

  319. Brother Jim: And if we're honest, this

  320. Brother Jim: morning, that mission has not

  321. Brother Jim: changed.

  322. Brother Jim: But can we agree this morning?

  323. Brother Jim: The world sure has changed around us, hasn't it?

  324. Brother Jim: The world has changed around us.

  325. Brother Jim: Now, today, it's just my little opinion with what is happening

  326. Brother Jim: in our world today.

  327. Brother Jim: The Great Commission brings the hope.

  328. Brother Jim: And you know what?

  329. Brother Jim: How many of us are just riding that fringe right now?

  330. Brother Jim: The only thing we're clasping on to is hope.

  331. Brother Jim: Hope that Christ gave to each of us in this world.

  332. Brother Jim: Hope.

  333. Brother Jim: Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

  334. Brother Jim: Hoping that the procedure.

  335. Brother Jim: Praying that the procedure that's coming up will bring me

  336. Brother Jim: good news or my loved one.

  337. Brother Jim: Good news.

  338. Brother Jim: The hope we have for future

  339. Brother Jim: generations to come for our

  340. Brother Jim: children, our grandchildren, for

  341. Brother Jim: our churches.

  342. Brother Jim: Let's be honest.

  343. Brother Jim: Confusion, division, fear, loneliness, addiction, violence,

  344. Brother Jim: the mass murders of innocent babies, sexual immorality, all

  345. Brother Jim: the spiritual emptiness.

  346. Brother Jim: It is what we face every day.

  347. Brother Jim: Do we not?

  348. Brother Jim: And here's that question for you.

  349. Brother Jim: Where is the church in all this sin and chaos?

  350. Brother Jim: So let me ask you something today.

  351. Brother Jim: Where is Rockford Church?

  352. Brother Jim: Where is Brother Jim?

  353. Brother Jim: Where are each of you with this question?

  354. Brother Jim: Something to chew on.

  355. Brother Jim: It's sad to say many churches, as well as pastors have changed

  356. Brother Jim: from bringing the gospel to entertaining the congregations.

  357. Brother Jim: I'm the first to say, you know me.

  358. Brother Jim: I love to be entertained.

  359. Brother Jim: I love it.

  360. Brother Jim: You put curly on up there with me and Larry.

  361. Brother Jim: I'm entertained all day like a little kid.

  362. Brother Jim: And entertainment is good.

  363. Brother Jim: That comes from God right to joyous laugh, to chuckle where

  364. Brother Jim: it hurts, where you snort.

  365. Brother Jim: Pop out your nose because you're laughing so hard.

  366. Brother Jim: But what about the church, my friends?

  367. Brother Jim: What about pastors who stand before congregations

  368. Brother Jim: entertaining instead of telling.

  369. Brother Jim: Out of love, out of compassion, out of concern that there is a

  370. Brother Jim: heaven, there is a hell.

  371. Brother Jim: But there's also one guidebook

  372. Brother Jim: map that will help you make your

  373. Brother Jim: choice, and that is a wise

  374. Brother Jim: choice.

  375. Brother Jim: Entertainment, my friends, has crept into the church.

  376. Brother Jim: Why?

  377. Brother Jim: Well, Brother Jim, we need to

  378. Brother Jim: keep that money coming in, don't

  379. Brother Jim: we?

  380. Brother Jim: Oh, brother Jim, we need to make

  381. Brother Jim: sure those numbers stand at a

  382. Brother Jim: certain level.

  383. Brother Jim: Brother Jim.

  384. Brother Jim: You better not offend anyone.

  385. Brother Jim: Come on.

  386. Brother Jim: True.

  387. Brother Jim: True.

  388. Brother Jim: True true.

  389. Brother Jim: Why should a pastor speak about eternal heaven as well as hell?

  390. Brother Jim: Come on now, church.

  391. Brother Jim: Come on now.

  392. Brother Jim: Why would God Sunday.

  393. Brother Jim: Why would a loving God let me correct myself.

  394. Brother Jim: Why would a loving God send anybody to hell?

  395. Brother Jim: He's a loving God, right?

  396. Brother Jim: Come on.

  397. Brother Jim: Everybody goes to heaven, right?

  398. Brother Jim: Please note the sarcasm in my voice.

  399. Brother Jim: Okay.

  400. Brother Jim: But that's what we face every day now, don't you?

  401. Brother Jim: Oh, you know what I. How many times I hear that a week.

  402. Brother Jim: Oh, I believe in God.

  403. Brother Jim: Well, he believed in God.

  404. Brother Jim: He's in heaven.

  405. Brother Jim: I want to take my head and ram it into this pulpit.

  406. Brother Jim: Sometimes there's a little bit

  407. Brother Jim: more to it than that, my

  408. Brother Jim: friends.

  409. Brother Jim: Again, a little more to it.

  410. Brother Jim: Let me tell you something, church.

  411. Brother Jim: If we open our Bibles to James one twelve to fifteen.

  412. Brother Jim: And if you've been joining us on

  413. Brother Jim: Wednesday nights, we're talking

  414. Brother Jim: about temptations.

  415. Brother Jim: We've covered lust, we've covered anger.

  416. Brother Jim: Now we are in envy and jealousy.

  417. Brother Jim: But James one twelve to fifteen

  418. Brother Jim: tells us something that we face

  419. Brother Jim: every day, even as believers in

  420. Brother Jim: Jesus Christ.

  421. Brother Jim: Anybody here not tempted?

  422. Brother Jim: Anybody here not tempted?

  423. Brother Jim: Please raise your hand if you're not tempted, because I'd love to

  424. Brother Jim: know how you do it.

  425. Brother Jim: Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been

  426. Brother Jim: approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has

  427. Brother Jim: promised to those who love him.

  428. Brother Jim: Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God.

  429. Brother Jim: For God cannot be tempted by

  430. Brother Jim: evil, nor does he himself tempt

  431. Brother Jim: anyone.

  432. Brother Jim: But each one of us is tempted when he is drawn away by his own

  433. Brother Jim: desires and enticed.

  434. Brother Jim: Then when desire has conceived,

  435. Brother Jim: it gives birth to sin, and sin,

  436. Brother Jim: when it is full grown, brings

  437. Brother Jim: forth death.

  438. Brother Jim: Did you pick up on these words, my friends?

  439. Brother Jim: Then when desire has Conceived.

  440. Brother Jim: It gives birth.

  441. Brother Jim: To what?

  442. Brother Jim: To sin and sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

  443. Brother Jim: Death.

  444. Brother Jim: Say that word with me.

  445. Brother Jim: Death.

  446. Brother Jim: Do we take that word serious anymore?

  447. Brother Jim: Oh, we we we pre-plan our funerals.

  448. Brother Jim: We have everything paid off.

  449. Brother Jim: We have our wills.

  450. Brother Jim: We've got all the check marks.

  451. Brother Jim: We got everything covered.

  452. Brother Jim: Being good stewards of our families.

  453. Brother Jim: But what about eternal.

  454. Brother Jim: Eternal death.

  455. Brother Jim: Are we too afraid as a church to talk about that?

  456. Brother Jim: Are we too afraid to share it with our loved ones, our

  457. Brother Jim: neighbors, our friends?

  458. Brother Jim: If you go to John eight forty four, you are.

  459. Brother Jim: We've used this one a lot because it speaks to truth.

  460. Brother Jim: You are of your father, the devil, and the desires of your

  461. Brother Jim: father you want to do.

  462. Brother Jim: He was a murderer from the beginning and he does not stand

  463. Brother Jim: in the truth because there is no truth in him.

  464. Brother Jim: When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resource resources,

  465. Brother Jim: for he is a lie.

  466. Brother Jim: He is a liar and the father of it.

  467. Brother Jim: Now think about this church.

  468. Brother Jim: We are told from God's own word,

  469. Brother Jim: for he is a liar and the father

  470. Brother Jim: of it.

  471. Brother Jim: So say that word with me this morning.

  472. Brother Jim: Liar, liar.

  473. Brother Jim: Have you ever been lied to?

  474. Brother Jim: I've heard some humdingers in my

  475. Brother Jim: life and I've come up with some

  476. Brother Jim: humdingers myself.

  477. Brother Jim: But I want you to think about Satan.

  478. Brother Jim: The lies he tells each one of you every day.

  479. Brother Jim: The question is, do you believe it or not?

  480. Brother Jim: Are we as adults as well as children and grandchildren being

  481. Brother Jim: fed lies from our world as well as the demonic realm that

  482. Brother Jim: encircles us this very day.

  483. Brother Jim: What is the hot topic now?

  484. Brother Jim: Social media and I couldn't help but think of my brother Larry

  485. Brother Jim: Carr on this one.

  486. Brother Jim: Oh, we're blowing the whistle on aliens who?

  487. Brother Jim: How many of us are expecting to be beamed up?

  488. Brother Jim: Scotty?

  489. Brother Jim: It's news.

  490. Brother Jim: Did you ever happen to stop and think, get in your Bible?

  491. Brother Jim: And maybe it's explained with these so-called aliens.

  492. Brother Jim: It's worth getting into the Bible, isn't it?

  493. Brother Jim: Demonic?

  494. Brother Jim: Demonic?

  495. Brother Jim: Demonic.

  496. Brother Jim: Do you think Satan fears us today?

  497. Brother Jim: He is out there in full force, is he not?

  498. Brother Jim: I mean, the mask is off.

  499. Brother Jim: True.

  500. Brother Jim: And we're such knuckleheads and

  501. Brother Jim: I'm going to use that word

  502. Brother Jim: knuckleheads.

  503. Brother Jim: We're just embracing it.

  504. Brother Jim: True, because we're feeding our own desires, my friends.

  505. Brother Jim: Feeding our own desires.

  506. Brother Jim: Is that not what?

  507. Brother Jim: Oh, excuse me before we go on.

  508. Brother Jim: I apologize on that.

  509. Brother Jim: Let's go to second Timothy three one to seven.

  510. Brother Jim: Here we go.

  511. Brother Jim: We've heard this from many a

  512. Brother Jim: times, but this is talking about

  513. Brother Jim: today.

  514. Brother Jim: But no, this this is the last day.

  515. Brother Jim: Perilous times that in the last

  516. Brother Jim: days, perilous times will come

  517. Brother Jim: for men will be lovers of

  518. Brother Jim: themselves, lovers of money,

  519. Brother Jim: boasters, proud, blasphemers,

  520. Brother Jim: disobedient to parents,

  521. Brother Jim: unthankful, unholy, unloving,

  522. Brother Jim: unforgiving, slanderous, without

  523. Brother Jim: self-control, brutal, despisers

  524. Brother Jim: of good, traitors, headstrong,

  525. Brother Jim: haughty, lovers of pleasure

  526. Brother Jim: rather than lovers of God having

  527. Brother Jim: a form of godliness but Denying

  528. Brother Jim: its power, and from such people

  529. Brother Jim: turn away.

  530. Brother Jim: For of this sort are those who creep into households and make

  531. Brother Jim: captives of gullible women, loaded down with sins, led away

  532. Brother Jim: by various lusts, always learning and never able to come

  533. Brother Jim: to the knowledge of truth.

  534. Brother Jim: You think about all the

  535. Brother Jim: capability we have to learn from

  536. Brother Jim: today.

  537. Brother Jim: I mean, you want to know anything, go on YouTube or

  538. Brother Jim: Google it, right?

  539. Brother Jim: And if you want it, just put it in the Amazon cart and boom,

  540. Brother Jim: bada bing, two or three days, you got it right.

  541. Brother Jim: Is that not what at least most

  542. Brother Jim: of our world supports and lives

  543. Brother Jim: today?

  544. Brother Jim: What I just read from second Timothy three one to seven, what

  545. Brother Jim: our society is telling our children is telling us it's okay

  546. Brother Jim: to do these things because, Dave, it's your life You enjoy

  547. Brother Jim: to be happy.

  548. Brother Jim: Lies big difference between what

  549. Brother Jim: the world tells us and what God

  550. Brother Jim: tells us.

  551. Brother Jim: So why is this Great Commission so important in our lives today

  552. Brother Jim: as followers of Jesus Christ?

  553. Brother Jim: The Great Commission means means

  554. Brother Jim: Christians, you and I as well as

  555. Brother Jim: this church.

  556. Brother Jim: As a body, we are called to live out our faith.

  557. Brother Jim: Your faith, my faith not only inside this church building, but

  558. Brother Jim: everywhere from our homes, our schools at work, our endless

  559. Brother Jim: time online, in our local areas, our doctor's offices that so

  560. Brother Jim: many of us visit, even in our hospitals when we are there.

  561. Brother Jim: Hey folks, how about even prisons?

  562. Brother Jim: And yes, even in our churches in

  563. Brother Jim: today's world, a great

  564. Brother Jim: commission should include

  565. Brother Jim: sharing the truth of Jesus with

  566. Brother Jim: love, helping hurting people

  567. Brother Jim: physically, spiritually, and

  568. Brother Jim: mentally.

  569. Brother Jim: Think about how many people are hurting today.

  570. Brother Jim: How many people of you sitting

  571. Brother Jim: here today are hurting mentally,

  572. Brother Jim: physically, spiritually?

  573. Brother Jim: How about standing for biblical truth, my friends?

  574. Brother Jim: We have found a way to corrupt the Bible, have we not?

  575. Brother Jim: We have found a way to twist God's Word, have we not?

  576. Brother Jim: And that concerns me, my friends.

  577. Brother Jim: Not out of hate, not out of anger, but concern.

  578. Brother Jim: Because again, it comes back to what we just talked about lies

  579. Brother Jim: from Satan and he will do anything he can to keep you,

  580. Brother Jim: your loved ones, from heaven.

  581. Brother Jim: He knows where he's heading.

  582. Brother Jim: He knows it.

  583. Brother Jim: But he wants to pull you away from God.

  584. Brother Jim: Because why?

  585. Brother Jim: God loves you.

  586. Brother Jim: How many of us disciple new

  587. Brother Jim: believers, supporting

  588. Brother Jim: missionaries, praying for the

  589. Brother Jim: lost, and being a light in dark

  590. Brother Jim: places?

  591. Brother Jim: I think we can all agree

  592. Brother Jim: technology, the good and the bad

  593. Brother Jim: has also changed how the Great

  594. Brother Jim: Commission is carried out

  595. Brother Jim: through social media, podcasts,

  596. Brother Jim: live streams, videos, online

  597. Brother Jim: ministry.

  598. Brother Jim: The gospel can now reach people across the world instantly.

  599. Brother Jim: I can't help but think of the

  600. Brother Jim: great Billy Graham and his

  601. Brother Jim: crusades.

  602. Brother Jim: Now all you gotta do is sit in the convenience of your home,

  603. Brother Jim: your bedroom in the car, and you can hear about the gospel.

  604. Brother Jim: You don't have to go to a stadium anymore.

  605. Brother Jim: And yes, it can be a message preached in a small church.

  606. Brother Jim: And yes, that message can touch someone thousands of miles away.

  607. Brother Jim: Talk to David about that one.

  608. Brother Jim: He'll inform you the great things we're blessed to be able

  609. Brother Jim: to do here at Rockford Church.

  610. Brother Jim: But even with our modern tools, the heart.

  611. Brother Jim: Remember I talked about that just a few minutes ago.

  612. Brother Jim: The heartbeat of the Great Commission remains the same.

  613. Brother Jim: People you and I telling other people about Jesus.

  614. Brother Jim: The Great Commission, again, is

  615. Brother Jim: not only for pastors or

  616. Brother Jim: missionaries.

  617. Brother Jim: It is for each one of you.

  618. Brother Jim: And hear me on this.

  619. Brother Jim: People at Rockford Church, every believer has a role.

  620. Brother Jim: You don't have to be a bag of

  621. Brother Jim: wind like me to make a

  622. Brother Jim: difference.

  623. Brother Jim: You might not be able to play beautiful music like Leonard

  624. Brother Jim: Dave, but you might be sitting on a voice.

  625. Brother Jim: Oh my goodness.

  626. Brother Jim: You might be one of the most

  627. Brother Jim: hardcore praying people in this

  628. Brother Jim: church, but you gotta release

  629. Brother Jim: it.

  630. Brother Jim: I challenge you, start searching for those gifts.

  631. Brother Jim: Buckle down and ask God, Lord, help me come out of my shell.

  632. Brother Jim: Each of us, if your claim to believe have to be a believer,

  633. Brother Jim: you gotta roll.

  634. Brother Jim: And again, some are called to

  635. Brother Jim: preach, some to teach, some to

  636. Brother Jim: encourage, some to give and some

  637. Brother Jim: to serve.

  638. Brother Jim: But all are called to help others know Christ.

  639. Brother Jim: How many are willing to stand up

  640. Brother Jim: and say that our world today,

  641. Brother Jim: the Great Commission, is

  642. Brother Jim: urgently needed more than ever

  643. Brother Jim: because many people are

  644. Brother Jim: searching for meaning, but they

  645. Brother Jim: are looking in all the wrong

  646. Brother Jim: places.

  647. Brother Jim: Again.

  648. Brother Jim: Think of all the options we have now.

  649. Brother Jim: Where is God?

  650. Brother Jim: Is it fair to say this country is almost too blessed?

  651. Brother Jim: Too blessed?

  652. Brother Jim: And we've turned our backs on God in so many ways.

  653. Brother Jim: Maybe you are one yourself who falls into this category.

  654. Brother Jim: Or maybe, just maybe, there is

  655. Brother Jim: someone that you love so much

  656. Brother Jim: who needs Jesus Christ in their

  657. Brother Jim: life.

  658. Brother Jim: I was one once.

  659. Brother Jim: And I can attribute that to a praying grandma.

  660. Brother Jim: How many of us here can say it was probably due to our praying

  661. Brother Jim: grandmas that led us to the Lord, that protected us from all

  662. Brother Jim: the silly things we did.

  663. Brother Jim: Grandma's never gave up hope.

  664. Brother Jim: We need a lot more praying grandmas.

  665. Brother Jim: We need a lot more praying people in this church.

  666. Brother Jim: So how about a church?

  667. Brother Jim: I'll tell you right now, Jesus is still the answer.

  668. Brother Jim: Still the answer.

  669. Brother Jim: The only answer for broken

  670. Brother Jim: hearts, lost souls, and a

  671. Brother Jim: hurting world.

  672. Brother Jim: The mission of the church today is not just to survive culture,

  673. Brother Jim: it is to reach culture, our society with the love and truth

  674. Brother Jim: of Jesus Christ.

  675. Brother Jim: And that might put us in a little bit of a sticky situation

  676. Brother Jim: at times, huh?

  677. Brother Jim: But you're called to do it.

  678. Brother Jim: I'm called to do it.

  679. Brother Jim: I am commanded to do it.

  680. Brother Jim: And I like to say this to meet people where they are, to meet

  681. Brother Jim: people where they are, which might take you to some places

  682. Brother Jim: you might feel uncomfortable.

  683. Brother Jim: But you know what?

  684. Brother Jim: Who's with you?

  685. Brother Jim: Jesus is with you.

  686. Brother Jim: The Holy Spirit's walking with you.

  687. Brother Jim: So why be afraid?

  688. Brother Jim: Why be fearful?

  689. Brother Jim: And don't you think God's going to give you the right words to

  690. Brother Jim: say at the right time?

  691. Brother Jim: Where is your faith?

  692. Brother Jim: Church.

  693. Brother Jim: Where's my faith?

  694. Brother Jim: Where's your faith?

  695. Brother Jim: And trust me in this transformation I am on.

  696. Brother Jim: It is amazing.

  697. Brother Jim: God will never let you down.

  698. Brother Jim: I want to leave you this morning

  699. Brother Jim: with a question to ponder

  700. Brother Jim: throughout this week, if you

  701. Brother Jim: will.

  702. Brother Jim: Now, as Rockford Church, we state in our newsletter and

  703. Brother Jim: other literature kind of like our mission statement.

  704. Brother Jim: Rockford church, the church that wakes up the Christian in you.

  705. Brother Jim: Enlightened and brightened by the grace of God with joyous

  706. Brother Jim: minds, hearts and soul, intensifying our faith in God.

  707. Brother Jim: We are.

  708. Brother Jim: Rockford Church.

  709. Brother Jim: Sounds good, doesn't it?

  710. Brother Jim: Sounds good on paper.

  711. Brother Jim: Let me ask you something.

  712. Brother Jim: Are we really doing this, my friends?

  713. Brother Jim: Are we really doing this?

  714. Brother Jim: And I want to ask you first before we can show.

  715. Brother Jim: Show others.

  716. Brother Jim: Are you doing it?

  717. Brother Jim: When you come in here each Sunday morning and I get it,

  718. Brother Jim: there's days, there's days.

  719. Brother Jim: But overall, are you coming in here with a joyous mind, a

  720. Brother Jim: heart, a soul?

  721. Brother Jim: You are ready to rock and roll.

  722. Brother Jim: And I'm talking about for Jesus.

  723. Brother Jim: Are you?

  724. Brother Jim: When you get up each morning, are you feeling good?

  725. Brother Jim: And again, I get it.

  726. Brother Jim: Aches, pains.

  727. Brother Jim: But still you're blessed because

  728. Brother Jim: I'm going to tell you something

  729. Brother Jim: right now.

  730. Brother Jim: There are people out there that's got it worse than you.

  731. Brother Jim: Amen.

  732. Brother Jim: Oh yeah, they do.

  733. Brother Jim: So again, before we go out and fix the world kind of to say it

  734. Brother Jim: like that, we gotta make sure we're strong here.

  735. Brother Jim: Each one of us are strong in our beliefs.

  736. Brother Jim: Now, when I came to Rockford

  737. Brother Jim: Church here four years ago,

  738. Brother Jim: almost four years, I had a

  739. Brother Jim: calling to build us together as

  740. Brother Jim: a family.

  741. Brother Jim: And I think we have succeeded that in the social functioning.

  742. Brother Jim: You gotta bring people together and we bring it together with

  743. Brother Jim: food, don't we?

  744. Brother Jim: Food and laughter.

  745. Brother Jim: We got that going.

  746. Brother Jim: But now what are we going to do

  747. Brother Jim: that we've got that part secure,

  748. Brother Jim: strong.

  749. Brother Jim: Isn't it time to take it out there?

  750. Brother Jim: And again, we don't have to go to Africa.

  751. Brother Jim: We can support Africa.

  752. Brother Jim: But why not people right here in our own backyard?

  753. Brother Jim: So again, I want you to look at that.

  754. Brother Jim: Grab your monthly messenger.

  755. Brother Jim: Take a look at that.

  756. Brother Jim: Read it, learn it, know it, and

  757. Brother Jim: then ask yourself, am I doing

  758. Brother Jim: this?

  759. Brother Jim: Is our church doing this?

  760. Brother Jim: Is our pastor doing this?

  761. Brother Jim: Don't leave me out, okay?

  762. Brother Jim: But it's a challenge.

  763. Brother Jim: Come on, my friends.

  764. Brother Jim: Look at this.

  765. Brother Jim: Time's the ticking.

  766. Brother Jim: It's a ticking.

  767. Brother Jim: And there ain't no going back, is there?

  768. Brother Jim: No going back?

  769. Brother Jim: Something to chew on this week, my friends.

  770. Brother Jim: And again, this is just

  771. Brother Jim: scratching the surface on the

  772. Brother Jim: series we're going into on the

  773. Brother Jim: Great Commission.

  774. Brother Jim: But again, making sure we are prepared as a church, as

  775. Brother Jim: brothers and sisters in Christ, to go out there.

  776. Brother Jim: So maybe take a little self-reflection this week.

  777. Brother Jim: I'm going to look in that mirror.

  778. Brother Jim: Okay, Jesus, here I am.

  779. Brother Jim: Tune me up a little bit.

  780. Brother Jim: Lead me, guide me true.

  781. Brother Jim: Amen.
