  1. We serve a good God, don't we?

  2. Amen. The Creator of heavens and the earth

  3. and the universe around us

  4. knows you. He knows me. He wants to

  5. commune with us. He wants a relationship with

  6. us that would be eternal. I love that.

  7. It's beautiful. Um,

  8. and one of the beauties that we have in our church is we have lots,

  9. and we have lots of babies, and babies are great.

  10. Babies are a sign of the blessing of the Lord, the next generation.

  11. And, uh, so we're gonna have a baby dedication in a couple of

  12. weeks. Um, although there is a

  13. sign up by September 7th. We're gonna start

  14. doing baby dedications on a quarterly basis.

  15. So this, this next one is going to be September 13th, and if you

  16. have a baby and you are available to be a part of that service that

  17. day, please sign up. We would love to

  18. serve you in that way. And then that's in 2 weeks, and

  19. then 2 weeks after that, we will be having a Baptism Sunday,

  20. and that's gonna be a church-wide celebration.

  21. We're not having an early gathering that day. It's at 9 o'clock.

  22. We're not having the 12. We're gonna come in all

  23. together and have a worship and Baptism service. And

  24. there is also— I can't read it from here. I think the

  25. 14th. Does that say— is that what it says? But there's

  26. also a limit for signups that ends after that day. So

  27. please sign up. if you're interested in being a part

  28. of that baptism service. There's some video

  29. elements that we want to incorporate that will

  30. require some time built into that, but we're

  31. planning that here in 4 weeks from today, and it's

  32. going to be a beautiful, beautiful service.

  33. I know that we serve a good and a mighty God,

  34. a God that has a word for us.

  35. God that wants to speak to us this morning. And my

  36. prayer for you is the same prayer that I've had for me this

  37. morning. And I came in with an attitude

  38. that I knew some people in my life that needed to hear what was being

  39. said this morning. And then I realized I needed to hear what was being said

  40. this morning. And

  41. And so I invite my brother, my spiritual

  42. pops, my elder,

  43. my elder of elders. I'll

  44. stop.

  45. Pastor

  46. Wayne.

  47. Good morning. I actually probably should

  48. stop before I start and get Dee to come back up

  49. here. Yeah. And I think she— I glanced up. I think

  50. she read it, which is fine. God can anoint reading.

  51. But she should just— I'm not gonna

  52. invite her 'cause it's— I was given the time.

  53. But if she gets off book, you know, I mean, she

  54. walked over into some water. She walked over into some flow.

  55. That was, you know, I didn't hear enough of that.

  56. So maybe we'll invite her back.

  57. Yeah. Maybe we could do that. It's good to be

  58. with you all.

  59. Disclaimer right here at the top.

  60. I don't hope that you

  61. believe or agree with what I'm going to try and share.

  62. I hope that you receive what the Holy Ghost has for you

  63. today because that's

  64. important. If you're open and

  65. available, the Holy Spirit can work in ways that have nothing

  66. to do with microphones and conversation and slides.

  67. Yeah. If we're open and available to

  68. that. So, About 2

  69. and a half months ago or so,

  70. Pastor Barbie asked me if I would

  71. close out this series we've been doing the last

  72. 4 weeks, all of the month. And I told her

  73. I would be honored to do that. And so

  74. I'm going to. Amen.

  75. When? Shortly. No, no, no, no, no.

  76. This won't be a sermon. It's

  77. not a message. It's more

  78. of a review or a

  79. reflect of the last 4 weeks

  80. with a little teaching added in.

  81. The reason I was prompted to do that,

  82. when Pastor Barbie asked me to do it, you know, she just said, close it

  83. out. So that's sort of up to me.

  84. But the reason I felt like we needed to review,

  85. that's actually another message. But this isn't

  86. a message. So what needs to happen, I think, is that

  87. we need, just like in any other classroom

  88. structure, I think we just need refreshers.

  89. Because there's stuff that's happened in the last 4

  90. weeks that some of us perceive in ways that others

  91. don't. Some of us have been like zapped by the Holy

  92. Ghost. Some of us are still trying to figure out how

  93. to spell 'wells'. That's okay. And that's body

  94. life. That's the way body life works.

  95. Everybody's at a different place at a different moment. But

  96. depending upon what your learnings and depending upon how

  97. the Holy Ghost works in your life, you could find yourself in

  98. situations where something on a repetitive nature

  99. becomes, oh, I get it. So that's really more

  100. what this is about. That's how we're proceeding

  101. from here. And what I'm doing is basically in 3

  102. stages. The first being

  103. context. The second being content,

  104. and the third being conclusion. So that's where I'm going to

  105. proceed with this. Can you put that slide up, please?

  106. And I'm also going to pray

  107. for and with us.

  108. Father God, Our Abba,

  109. in you we live and move and have our being.

  110. Yes. And we are gathered

  111. here for your honor

  112. and your glory. I ask you to continue

  113. to lead us down the path of righteousness for the sake of

  114. your kingdom. And I ask that in Jesus'

  115. name, sanctioned by the Holy Ghost.

  116. So let me move. You don't mind if I

  117. move? Most of— some of you know I'm gonna do that anyway,

  118. whether you like it or not. That's just— it's sort of

  119. quasi-old school, I guess, but I'm more than

  120. quasi-old school.

  121. See me after, would you?

  122. I could push that a little bit. Old school would be a little bit more

  123. disciplinarian than new school would be. So come see me afterward,

  124. would you? Careful, Bill.

  125. Oh, was that— who was— oh, stop, Ellen. Stop it.

  126. Or you or Fred, one of you over in the amen corner.

  127. Most of you don't know what an amen corner is, but those 2 do.

  128. Yeah. Okay. About 17 or 18 years ago, just for a

  129. split second, just think where you were 17 or 18

  130. years ago. That's all. That's all. Okay. About

  131. 17 or 18 years ago, we used to do a song here in

  132. this building that was part of the hymnody of

  133. the church. I used to stand roughly over there

  134. where Johnny G is. And back then, I think Barbie

  135. was still part of the worship team. She was

  136. starting to teach more than she was in terms of

  137. worship team ministry. But give or take, that's what was

  138. happening. And so when she

  139. asked me, to take this session, what came up in me

  140. is this, because the

  141. genesis, the starting point for that song was this verse.

  142. With joy will you draw water out of the wells of salvation.

  143. And this is the day we will say, praise the Lord. So I'm not gonna

  144. work that whole verse. I want you to see the verse 'cause I'm setting this

  145. up for content. Okay? So this is

  146. not up there, but this is free. And I don't have time to open it

  147. up. I'm just gonna call your attention to it. This says, with joy

  148. will you draw water. The joy

  149. is the bucket.

  150. It's not saying with celebration or with happy

  151. or with shout and dance. It's not defining joy.

  152. It's not— that verse is not telling us what joy is

  153. except that it says— bear with me— it says,

  154. with joy will we draw out.

  155. So if you read it that way, joy

  156. becomes a bucket

  157. because it's saying the way to get the water out of the well

  158. is with something. Yeah. It's not saying—

  159. it's not feeling an emotional way. It's not saying,

  160. This is how joy manifests. That's another subject

  161. at another time. But if you

  162. permit me, and I have the mic, so I guess I can,

  163. it's saying joy is the container

  164. that will help me get the water. Yeah.

  165. I'm leaning on that just a little bit because however you

  166. understand joy, I'm not getting back into the original language. That's not where I'm going.

  167. However you understand joy working, you can

  168. keep that as long as you'll add what I'm doing today.

  169. That says joy is how I will draw out

  170. water. Yeah. So you see the connect. So that

  171. would make, at least in Wayne speak, that would make

  172. joy the bucket. Okay, now

  173. the fact that we're living in the South makes this much easier to translate

  174. Okay, or to elaborate on. The passage is

  175. saying, with joy you, you see the asterisk?

  176. Okay, it's a plural. And what it really says to

  177. us is what y'all need to do is draw water. Yeah.

  178. It's not written to individuals.

  179. Individuals can receive it, but it's

  180. written to us, us'uns. It's kind of you and—

  181. thank you, Connie. You're not even from

  182. down around these parts. You're from way up

  183. north. I know. All right. No, it's just you and me. You know, I

  184. tend to get real.

  185. So what it's saying in the Old Testament prophetically,

  186. it's a prophetic directive. It's

  187. not a requirement. It's not a commandment.

  188. It's a passage that's saying— think of— put it in the

  189. context. It's thinking— it's saying, this is what

  190. y'all are gonna do.

  191. Look at it, okay, and wind the

  192. clock back a few thousand years. So the

  193. prophetic directive is the prophet is saying,

  194. this is in your future. to real people at a real

  195. time in history way back past us.

  196. But the irony is, or the

  197. majesty is, that it's speaking to us right now.

  198. Right. So it's not saying

  199. you need to draw water and y'all need to draw water

  200. and y'all need to draw water. It's saying we all need to draw water.

  201. Amen. But it's not saying find a well and draw water from it. It says

  202. wells. It's plural.

  203. And it's in your Bible. That's where the tune came from, and that's about

  204. 17, 18 years ago. And real briefly, at the bottom

  205. of the slide, a well is a

  206. fountain. It's a source of satisfaction, A flowing

  207. spring. And salvation, if you work the language, is a

  208. place of deliverance. Oh, Jesus. Aid,

  209. victory, or prosperity. Sorry. A source of

  210. health and welfare from a word meaning to be

  211. safe or free. Those

  212. definitions for wells,

  213. those definitions for wells, Is magnificent.

  214. It's splendid. It's awe, A-W-E.

  215. It's awe-inspiring. The fact that

  216. we have the potential to draw from wells

  217. that have that in them.

  218. Watch. How many people want that in their lives?

  219. All of us. Watch this. Watch this.

  220. Watch, old school, old school. Since I

  221. didn't have any, I wasn't looking at anybody and I'm not,

  222. my intention is not to step on anybody's toes. It's just an interesting

  223. dynamic from here looking back to there.

  224. What would keep anybody

  225. when I said, how many of y'all want that in your lives?

  226. And I did this. What would keep you from not raising your

  227. hand? Right.

  228. I'm not talking about salvation. I'm not talking about your level of

  229. redemption or are you filled with the Holy Ghost. I'm going, wouldn't the

  230. response to those definitions,

  231. wouldn't the response be absolutely?

  232. So let me ask again, how many people want those things in

  233. their life? Yes. Okay, that's what

  234. corporate community looks like.

  235. That's what it looks like. Watch, watch.

  236. So somebody's up with a mic and somebody says what I just said, I just

  237. said, and somebody asks for that and raised their hand just like I did. And

  238. I'm sitting right here and I don't move.

  239. Now from up here, From up here,

  240. I don't know why that person didn't move. And I'm not making any

  241. judgment because I don't know why. So I can't fill in and go,

  242. oh, I bet. No, I can't do that

  243. because I don't know why that happened. All

  244. I know from this side is they didn't raise their

  245. hand. So I can make this assumption. Maybe they don't

  246. want that. Y'all excuse me. Could I

  247. pray for you? Is there—

  248. did you not read that? Do you not understand

  249. that? Or you want to see me after? Let me finish what I'm doing.

  250. Okay, thanks. Because

  251. from this side, that looks problematic.

  252. Why would you not raise your

  253. hand in faith? Not

  254. presumption, not

  255. artificialness.. Why would

  256. your hand not go up? If you were

  257. at a big ballgame and

  258. something happened, both

  259. your hands would go up. If

  260. you're at a stadium rock

  261. concert, you might lose your

  262. mind. Wayne, come back, come

  263. back, come back. So that's the

  264. context of how we got here

  265. today in my life, because I

  266. have a history with this. So

  267. we're going to move to content

  268. now. The first Sunday that

  269. Pastor Barbie was up when she

  270. opened this series, what she

  271. did was she started there. I

  272. don't mean literally that

  273. verse. I don't remember what verse she used, but she basically

  274. started at ancient wells. She

  275. went back historically to that. That's where she

  276. started 4 weeks ago. That was her starting place.

  277. And then she expanded from there. And what she was using

  278. Is she was using, for me, she was using this verse

  279. as a starting place. And then she brought her message. Now what

  280. I'm gonna do today is I've asked Rhonda

  281. to help translate or interpret

  282. on my behalf for your sake.

  283. Just let it sink in. Let it sink in.

  284. Yes. What she's reading is from

  285. notes from about 16 years ago that I

  286. wrote based on the song that I just talked to you about, Wealth of Salvation.

  287. And what I have been able to do because of my history, not only here

  288. in this building, but my history in terms of the kingdom, I've been

  289. able to see the last 4 services as

  290. astounding. Astounding.

  291. Yes. Here's why. Not because the sermons

  292. were so powerful and the Holy Ghost moved

  293. dynamically in an unbelievable way, but because

  294. all 4 messages in the last 4 weeks all marry up

  295. to the notes I wrote 17 years ago

  296. in order. It does. So

  297. I'll show you. She's doing this because

  298. she has a real gift of speaking

  299. so we understand, which I don't have.

  300. And she has a— how do I want to say this?

  301. She has an anointing. Oh, let's go there. She has

  302. an anointing to get your attention.

  303. Which I don't always have either.

  304. So, Rhonda, if you would. Ancient wells.

  305. Ancient wells are those which were dug out by our

  306. ancestors, or tribal leaders, if you will.

  307. These wells contain the doctrines and

  308. theology that have nurtured saints since the days

  309. when Moses and those wilderness children sojourned

  310. through the desert on their long journey to the Promised Land.

  311. They are in a very real sense the watering

  312. holes that all saints must drink from

  313. for the life of the Spirit to remain fresh and

  314. vital in our lives. Without such

  315. historical wells, all God's children would

  316. surely die, as Psalm 63 says,

  317. in a dry and weary land where there's no water.

  318. Such ancient wells have been provided to us by God's

  319. sovereign mercy and grace.

  320. We've done nothing to dig them or preserve

  321. them. They are gifts from the Father's hand,

  322. and we may come— we must come

  323. and drink freely and deeply

  324. and often. As the Word says, let all

  325. who are thirsty come.

  326. Ancient wells, opening service 4 weeks

  327. ago, 5 weeks ago today. Ancient wells are

  328. historical wells. I.e.,

  329. they're ancient. They're long before us.

  330. They were dug thousands of years ago.

  331. And some of them, some of them physically,

  332. geographically, we could get on a big plane if we all—

  333. somebody gifted us with a ton of money and we could all go to those

  334. wells. We could literally go to some of those wells.

  335. So ancient wells are historic on a

  336. physical level, but on a spiritual level or a

  337. metaphorical level, the concept of wells being

  338. passed down, obviously it's generational, but it's

  339. generational with time connected to it.

  340. Now, the reason I'm stressing that point is for this reason. We have

  341. lost all sense of— almost all sense of history. Yeah.

  342. Humanity has, not the people in this room,

  343. humanity. These folks are, yeah, these

  344. younger folks here, y'all's, isn't, you have

  345. less history on the planet. So unless

  346. somebody imparts it to you, you have little or

  347. no history of history or desire for history.

  348. It doesn't— look, I'm looking in your faces.

  349. It doesn't touch you. You don't care. I'm not

  350. upset. I'm not saying it's your fault.

  351. It's the planet you've inherited. The

  352. responsibility of passing on history

  353. isn't to the people that are supposed to be receiving history.

  354. Right. It's supposed to happen from the people that

  355. have the history that are able to pass it on. Yes.

  356. So if our youth don't have it, just stop dumping on the kids.

  357. You cannot share stuff

  358. authentically if you haven't experienced it.

  359. Now, what I mean is I don't mean these kids need to somehow go back

  360. to the Dark Ages to get history. What I mean is they need to

  361. have the experience of people that know something about the Dark

  362. Ages, for example, or the Renaissance. Pick something in time,

  363. you know, the Civil War, whatever.

  364. They're not liable to pick it up unless

  365. somebody imparts it. Yeah. So Ancient Wells,

  366. which is where Barbie started this, Pastor Barbie started this series, has

  367. to do with, if I could say it this way, looking back over our

  368. shoulder. And going, are these wells wells that

  369. we need to be connected to? And the answer to that is absolutely.

  370. Yeah. Okay. So

  371. the next thing that happened is this.

  372. He established his testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in

  373. Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach their children.

  374. That the next generation might know them. See the process?

  375. The children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children,

  376. so that they should set their hope in God. They should set their

  377. hope in God. They should set their hope in God and

  378. not forget the works of God, but keep His

  379. commandments. Not forget— I'm sorry.

  380. Set their hope in God and not forget to keep His commandments.

  381. Amen. This is an old passage.

  382. This is not a contemporary passage. This didn't happen 200

  383. years ago. This happened, I haven't done the

  384. research, but this is probably 3,000 and change. I

  385. don't give or take. Somebody?

  386. You're there. That's close, okay. So when this was said,

  387. when it was said to the people that heard it,

  388. What they were being told to do is what I just spent 10 minutes talking

  389. to you about just now. Yes. Yes. The

  390. directive here is take the old data

  391. and move it up to a place where the kid— where the next

  392. generation might know them. It's in your Bible.

  393. This is not provocative. This is not, gee, here's a new

  394. paradigm to work with. It's ancient. Yeah.

  395. And when it breaks down, you lose a

  396. whole plethora of wells because you

  397. don't know where they are. You don't

  398. know how to look for them. And they

  399. become irrelevant. And if I could be

  400. so bold, If they become irrelevant,

  401. then the process right there becomes

  402. irrelevant. So week 2, Pastor Barbee

  403. was up again. And this is how she

  404. started. She said, after the first

  405. message on ancient wealth, she said,

  406. somebody contacted me this week.

  407. This is 4 weeks ago, 5 weeks ago. And

  408. she said, they asked me,

  409. What's it mean to dig wells? How do you dig wells? What

  410. does that look like to dig wells? I don't understand.

  411. And then she said, I don't wanna do this,

  412. but the Holy Ghost has told me to do it, so I'm going to do

  413. it. Now, I've known Barbie for

  414. 32, 33 years. We know each other pretty well,

  415. and I know a lot about her ins and outs and her habits and her

  416. processing. So I know how she works.

  417. And she goes over and she gets a blanket, gets a bag full of tools,

  418. and she comes over and she sets it down. Then she— bless her heart—

  419. she plops herself down in front of everybody for the whole message.

  420. Never got up. She just sits there like she does in her office

  421. or her house or in the woods. or in an automobile

  422. or on a road trip or a vacation. I'll just keep going. That's what she

  423. does. That's who she is. That's what she does. Not a

  424. genius, not a, you know, not a super Christian. That's what she

  425. does. And she showed us how she does it. Right. And the

  426. reason she did it is pastoral. Somebody

  427. asked her a question. What does it mean? How does— what does

  428. digging wells look like? And her pastor's heart

  429. went, if somebody— if they've sent me that email or met me

  430. in the hallway, that represents more than one person. There's other

  431. people in this church that have the same question. So what I should

  432. do— Holy Ghost, what should I do? Holy Ghost goes, you just need to humble

  433. yourself and pick up some gear. You don't want to do that. You really don't

  434. want to draw attention to yourself. You really don't want to sit down on stage

  435. for an hour. But you need to do that. And you need to show

  436. them how you dig wells. That's what she

  437. did. Everybody in this church should be thankful for that. Yes.

  438. That is a tool. That is a pastoral

  439. show-and-tell tool to explain not how

  440. you should do it, how she does it.

  441. Because the question was to her, what's it— how does that

  442. work? The question wasn't, can I get the philosophy behind it?

  443. What do theologians say? They asked her how to do it,

  444. and she showed us how she does it.

  445. Now, in the process of doing that, what she effectively was doing is this.

  446. Barbie grew up in the hills of

  447. Tennessee, up in Dolly country. Shout it down. Don't shout me

  448. down. And she learned to

  449. cook what we would call home cooking from

  450. generations. If she learned it from her

  451. mom cooking, she learned it from her mom's mom.

  452. That's this. I'm sorry, that's the one we just looked at,

  453. the process of passing it to generations. Barbie can make some

  454. serious cornbread. Mm.

  455. But Barbie didn't invent the recipe. Right.

  456. But Barbie can make some serious cornbread.

  457. So what she did as part of the family

  458. is she sat down here and showed us

  459. how to make cornbread. Come on. Come on. That's what she did.

  460. Now watch, watch. I want a show of hands. I'm not

  461. messing with you. Yes, I am. I want a show of

  462. hands from these 2 sections, for real. And

  463. you won't be embarrassed. I'm not going to put you on the spot. I want

  464. to see a show of hands. How many of you can make good cornbread?

  465. Could I see your hand? Keep your

  466. hand up. Keep your hand up. Oh, I meant youngin'. Stop. Oh, youngin'.

  467. Stop it. Stop it. You're always doing this. Can you not pull him

  468. back a little?

  469. Now, now watch, watch.

  470. Literally watch one more time. Not

  471. you, not you. Could I see a show of hands

  472. if you know you can make good cornbread?

  473. Do you see this? Do you see this? Let me say it another way.

  474. Do you see the lack of this? Yes. Okay, now, if

  475. I said to any one of these people, would you— could

  476. you take— could I come over maybe Saturday? Could you make me some

  477. cornbread? I can try. Oh, I appreciate that. She said she could try.

  478. Look, that's good. Bless your heart.

  479. The point is the process

  480. has broken down. I

  481. can't get good cornbread Other than,

  482. you know, my wife's help. My wife would do well to pay

  483. attention to Barbie. No, no, no, no. Whoa,

  484. whoa, whoa. Whoa.

  485. Whoa. Look, look, look, look. We've been married

  486. 46 years. What I said that she heard ain't a

  487. problem. It's not a problem, okay?

  488. I'm not being deferential to my wife.

  489. You see, you jumped ahead of me. You heard the

  490. punchline when there was no punchline. What I'm

  491. inferring, watch, this is the way my world works.

  492. What I'm inferring is Jeanne grew up in St. Louis and

  493. her mom was Italian and her mom's mom was Italian and

  494. they immigrated to California. Historically in

  495. their life, Jeanne didn't learn how to make good

  496. Southern cornbread. It's not her fault. Right.

  497. She makes good cornbread, but it's not as good as Barbie's

  498. because Barbie's got several generations

  499. of cornbread makers. So what they know how to do

  500. is make some serious cornbread. And I don't even

  501. have to embellish that by going, Think of the other ingredients,

  502. y'all. Think of the— you don't— think of the other

  503. side items that go with that

  504. cornbread. If I come back over here and go,

  505. do you know how to start from scratch? Start from scratch

  506. with dried beans and make some good beans? Hands won't— they won't go up.

  507. Oh, stop. You're not a kid.

  508. You— have I made enough of that point? Where this

  509. breaks down is we lose ancient history

  510. and we lose family connectivity. Y'all want some good

  511. banana pudding? Yeah. Would you raise your hand?

  512. Look, Justin will take orders.

  513. And knowing him, there'll probably be a surcharge.

  514. It's not 99. Right. But the

  515. point I'm making is it's generational

  516. transfer. It's how to get from one

  517. generation to another generation. And when a break— and

  518. a generation I'm rounding out biblically is 35 years, give or take.

  519. When enough generations go by where there's been a dent or a

  520. violation or a gap, You look up 100 years, 200 years,

  521. 300 years down the road and you go, I don't have a clue

  522. about this or this or this or this or this.

  523. Doesn't mean people are stupid. Doesn't mean they're not

  524. interested in having a fully orbed life. It means nobody

  525. showed them what to do. Yes. Oh my

  526. God.

  527. Our responsibility is not to grow ourselves up in the kingdom.

  528. Our responsibility is to help grow others up in the

  529. kingdom.

  530. Take up a note.

  531. So that's what she did. Now, have you?

  532. Would you please? Thank you. Thank you.

  533. Family wells are shown to us by those from within our household.

  534. These wells are the ones that we are led to by our family

  535. elders. They've been dug out or fashioned to

  536. suit the needs of those within a specific community.

  537. Throughout our generational history, these wells have been

  538. maintained by those who have raised us to make

  539. certain that we would not have to do without.

  540. Life-giving water from these wells have been provided

  541. through the direct actions and stewardship of others

  542. within our family of faith. They are the ones who

  543. paid the price so that we can have a

  544. spiritual life source to drink from wherever we choose.

  545. Like these, like ancient wells, these family wells

  546. were not of our doing. They too have been provided for

  547. us and to us. However, they're more localized and

  548. smaller, in size and resource. In a sense, they

  549. could be called chosen wells, ones which

  550. have been established to sustain specific family groups in

  551. specific areas. You could think of your local church congregation

  552. as a place where such family wells can be found. Right.

  553. Please consider this: you must go

  554. where they are, the wells and the

  555. water they contain cannot come to you.

  556. You must position yourself near them if you

  557. expect or desire to drink from them.

  558. Third Sunday. Sorry,

  559. third Sunday, my bad.

  560. Pastor Allen, Brought the Word that Sunday.

  561. And the text that came to my mind in these notes from

  562. 15-plus years ago is this: O God, Thou art my God.

  563. I seek Thee. My soul thirsts for Thee. My flesh

  564. faints for Thee as in a dry and weary land

  565. where there's no water. I'll dig a well.

  566. Amen. It's personal wealth. Hold

  567. your thought.

  568. No, would you— did you just read this? No.

  569. That's what I thought. Okay. Remember elder, elder?

  570. In the second service when Pastor Al was up, he was

  571. talking to everybody. He was talking about the need

  572. to dig our own wells, the need to own

  573. up to our personal responsibility to do this

  574. independent— no, no, no, in conjunction with ancient wells

  575. and family wells. This is the next

  576. extension of the process.

  577. And in his message, he walked over here.

  578. Not at the expense of the rest of the church, but he walked over here

  579. and this is what he did. He said, I'm

  580. paraphrasing, he said, I just need to talk to the young folks for a minute.

  581. And he didn't challenge you. He wasn't heavy-handed, but

  582. he encouraged you all

  583. to learn how to dig your own wells.

  584. Now, the beauty of that for me, because

  585. I was already carrying a bunch of this before I got here today,

  586. is when he did that, my heart leapt

  587. because what he was doing as an elder, as an older man, and as a

  588. spiritual elder and as a pastor, what he was doing

  589. is he was functioning pastorally to say to the

  590. kids, not, I challenge you, learn to

  591. memorize the book of Isaiah. No, no, no, no, no. He

  592. was saying, it's your

  593. responsibility.

  594. Yours. And since he was saying it to y'all

  595. at your age, he's sowing

  596. into your life to get a head start so that you don't lock

  597. up and— 20 years or 25 years or 45 years ago, I

  598. wish somebody had told me. Yes.

  599. Because he did tell you. He told us all.

  600. He said, we have— do this,

  601. do this. Take your finger and point directly at your heart.

  602. Please, everybody, just talk. It's no energy involved. You'll be fine.

  603. If I can do it at my age, you can do

  604. it. He's functionally

  605. saying, nobody can do this

  606. for me except me with the help of the Holy

  607. Ghost. Yes. Okay? That's what he's saying.

  608. And I rejoice. I'm going, this is huge. This is fabulous in

  609. this church because we're in this church. We're not in

  610. another church. So, when Will mentioned something about baby

  611. dedications and he said, you know, a healthy sign of a church is when you

  612. look, there's babies everywhere. Well, he's right. That is a

  613. sign of a healthy church. It's also signs of an active marriage.

  614. They can't fire me. I'm no longer on staff.

  615. And to push that point, I'm speaking today because Pastor

  616. Barbie said, will you do it? So if this is problematic,

  617. take it up with her. Oh, wait, she's not here.

  618. Oh, no, that's no fun if you do that. Okay,

  619. so would you now read that? Thank you.

  620. Personal wells. Personal wells are those which we have dug out

  621. with our own hands through the power of the Holy Ghost at work in us.

  622. and through the revelation that God has shown us personally.

  623. These wells are not due to the labor of others or

  624. someone else's personal sacrifices.

  625. These wells have required a price to be

  626. paid by us and no one else.

  627. We did not stumble upon them. We followed a

  628. pathway which the Lord led us down. Along

  629. the way, we were shown by the Spirit, shown by

  630. the Spirit where to stop and dig.

  631. Not only did we have to travel some

  632. distance seeking and following the

  633. Lord, but we also had to lean in and

  634. learn to listen for his direction—

  635. where to stop, what to lay aside, to dig

  636. down into what he has shown us through

  637. Personal struggle, divine guidance,

  638. and holy insight. We've acquired

  639. blisters on our hands, muscles in our

  640. arms, stronger backs, deeper

  641. emotional and mental resolve so that

  642. these personal water resources have

  643. come into being. Although they may

  644. from time to time serve others by

  645. providing them with much-needed

  646. refreshment through our witness, our

  647. story, our song, our teaching or

  648. preaching, our testimony, for the

  649. most part these wells are for us to

  650. drink from and to be renewed on a

  651. regular basis. They are the wells that

  652. could— we could perhaps Hang a sign on

  653. that has our name on it because they're

  654. ours, like our own property. But that

  655. too is a gift from God, a gift coming

  656. down from the Father of lights, in whom

  657. there is no shadow of turning.

  658. 3 weeks ago, at the end of Pastor Allen's

  659. service, between services, Justin and I ended up

  660. here. And

  661. we were having a random conversation. I have no idea how we got

  662. into it, but we're right here.

  663. And Justin turns to me and he says, I'm paraphrasing,

  664. He says, let me tell you

  665. how I'm ending my service, or the service,

  666. which was last week. But this is the week

  667. before that. You know, that's important. That's important. That's

  668. important to where we're going for the next 10, 12 minutes. Okay?

  669. Really. He says,

  670. he tells me, He tells— he quotes me or almost quotes

  671. me. He quotes me how he's going to end the service.

  672. So I look back at him and I said, really?

  673. That's how I ended my notes 15-plus years ago.

  674. Same verse. And Justin goes—

  675. Justin didn't do this often. Justin went—

  676. My point is, my point is his mouth is

  677. open, but there's no words coming out.

  678. I don't have my wallet. I'll pay you after. Okay.

  679. Not only that.

  680. So when he said that in me,

  681. I said, well, I'm not going to use that verse to end

  682. because, you know, however you treat it

  683. in Justin's universe, how— that's a dangerous

  684. place to hang out. However he treats it

  685. will be enough. I don't need to go back and push that again

  686. or put— Push it. Yeah, push that again. And so I told him I was

  687. going to change it. And then during that week

  688. between 3 weeks ago and the end of his message

  689. last week, the Holy Ghost went, no, you need to go

  690. back to that verse because that verse needs to be unpacked

  691. in a way, not right or wrong, other, in an

  692. other way than what Justin did.

  693. So would you read that?

  694. Polluted wells. Polluted wells are sources we

  695. should no longer drink from, regardless of who dug them

  696. or how we were led to them. Such wells are

  697. dangerously unhealthy and should be sealed up and left

  698. deserted so that no one after us can try to draw

  699. water from them. They are poisoned and should be

  700. avoided at all cost. The enemy of our soul

  701. knows that if he can cut off our water supply,

  702. he can kill us. So anything and everything he

  703. can do to pollute the wells in our lives, he will

  704. try to do. He'll sneak up and pour all sorts

  705. of unholy, unhealthy, impure,

  706. vile things into them to sicken us. Or to

  707. make us so spiritually ill that our souls die from

  708. lack of pure, clean drinking water.

  709. That's one way that wells get polluted, but there are other

  710. ways that have nothing to do with the work of the enemy.

  711. These other ways are pollution done by us.

  712. We allow stagnation to set in.

  713. From lack of use, we stop

  714. dropping the joy bucket down. We no longer stir

  715. up the water. We allow it to stagnate where all

  716. types of impurities grow and fester and spread

  717. into the water source. When that happens, the

  718. water is harmful if you drink from it again. The best thing

  719. to do when that happens to a well Is to board it up

  720. and simply walk away.

  721. I would be remiss if I didn't do this. Would you please

  722. put your hand on your forehead and say to

  723. yourself quietly, engage.

  724. Okay, for the next 10-ish minutes. Hold

  725. that thought.

  726. But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.

  727. Be appalled, O heavens, at this. Be shocked.

  728. Be utterly desolate, says the Lord.

  729. My people have committed 2

  730. evils. They have forsaken

  731. me, the fountain of living

  732. waters, And they've hewn

  733. out cisterns, wells, for

  734. themselves, broken

  735. cisterns, wells that can

  736. hold no water. Now, when

  737. this was spoken by the

  738. prophet, it too is at least,

  739. give or take, 3,000 years

  740. ago. So through the

  741. prophet, what he's saying,

  742. speaking for Jehovah, is

  743. that's a problem.

  744. Hallelujah. And it's a

  745. problem for those people

  746. back then. But it's a

  747. problem right now.

  748. Yes. Okay.

  749. Jehovah says there are 2 problems.

  750. First, they have forsaken me,

  751. Jehovah. The fountain of living water,

  752. comma, and then the second problem arises.

  753. Now watch, please. The second

  754. problem only arises because of the

  755. first problem. Right.

  756. Had the first problem not arisen,

  757. the second problem wouldn't be in the text.

  758. Yes. Because in order for the people that heard this prophetically,

  759. in order for them to do the second part, which is

  760. dig their own wells or their own cisterns

  761. without any direction from the Holy Ghost or any scriptural

  762. narrative or any reflecting to the Torah or any thus saith

  763. the Lord from anywhere, they just went Why not?

  764. I'm a free agent. Oh,

  765. push it, Wayne. I'm free in Christ. I can do pretty much what I

  766. want to because Jesus loves me. He's given me all kinds of warm

  767. and fuzzy grace. You better come on now. You better start

  768. preaching.

  769. They wouldn't have dug wells that would

  770. hold no water if they hadn't forsaken the

  771. fountain of living waters. Right. Now,

  772. here's why I wanted you to put your hand on your head and engage.

  773. Everything that we know or think we know

  774. about Scripture that references water— out of your belly flow living water,

  775. the streams of the Lord are full— there's any number of verses that we

  776. sort of know or kind of know that reference how

  777. water works or living water works or the

  778. water of life works. Any of those things, they're

  779. not necessarily wrong. But when we have those

  780. things in our head, when we read passages,

  781. we read them in a way— help me, Jesus—

  782. predicated on what we think we know from these little pieces of

  783. Scripture. Amen. That we sort of kind of think maybe they connect.

  784. And they don't necessarily connect. Now I'm going to show you why.

  785. And I'm going to refer you back to my disclaimer. You don't have

  786. to believe me. I just hope you

  787. receive what the Holy Ghost shows you. That's where I started.

  788. Yes. Forsaken. can mean

  789. disregard. It can mean pay no attention to.

  790. It can mean that's irrelevant or he's

  791. irrelevant. That's what it—

  792. if you work the language, that's what forsaken— forsaken doesn't mean, oh

  793. gee, I overlooked. Right. Oh, will you

  794. forgive me? I made a boo-boo.

  795. That's not what it means. It means that's really

  796. how He wants to do this. It's not really an

  797. issue for us. Oh my God.

  798. And then He says, they have forsaken me,

  799. the fountain. Stop. This is what I was

  800. just talking about. Don't run over to living water. Don't go

  801. there. Stop. Back up.

  802. They have forsaken me, the fountain.

  803. Now this is what happens in our heads. Some

  804. of us. This is what happens. We read, they

  805. have forsaken me, the fountain of living

  806. water, and we equate living waters with

  807. all these little pieces of passages and

  808. nuances that we think we know, and we

  809. connect it to the fountain of living

  810. waters. So what, Wayne? So we make

  811. everything we understand about living

  812. waters connected directly to the

  813. fountain. But the living waters are

  814. manifestations coming from the

  815. fountain. Living waters, however you

  816. know that phrase, However you know it,

  817. living waters has to have someplace to

  818. come from. That's right. It comes from

  819. someplace. And in this

  820. series, where it comes from is it comes from

  821. one or more living wells of salvation,

  822. which is where we started about the song from almost

  823. 20 years ago. So this is what takes place.

  824. Fountain can mean source.

  825. Out loud one time to humor me, just say, my source. My

  826. source. Say it again with a little more gusto. My source.

  827. One more time with a little more gusto. My source. Thank

  828. you. Now, the problem with the first difficulty

  829. is not an issue about living waters.

  830. No! It's about an issue of being unengaged or disengaged

  831. or unconcerned or seeing the

  832. fountain as being irrelevant. Right. The

  833. fountain is where the water is! That's

  834. right. You can't get water out of something that doesn't have

  835. water in it. Amen. And what we do is we

  836. take this whole thing about— now I'm jumping

  837. to the New Covenant— Jesus being the, you

  838. know, the source of living water. Right,

  839. right, right, right, right. I know, I know

  840. that's going off in your heads. But what we do

  841. is we disconnect— no, no. We connect the water

  842. itself to the source and we ignore the source.

  843. Which is what they did right there. And that's

  844. what we're doing right now in the body of

  845. Christ on the planet. Because talking to—

  846. Jesus— talking to people about the living

  847. water coming out of our lives when we're not

  848. clear about where that source is in our lives

  849. is a big problem. Yeah.

  850. Because it tears our witness to pieces. You've

  851. got no leg to stand on. You've got no

  852. sponge to squeeze out with water in it. It's

  853. not there in the same way that the cornbread's not there.

  854. Come on. It's the same dynamic.

  855. What they did here— how am I? Okay. What they did here

  856. Is they did exactly, exactly

  857. what happened when Moses says to Aaron,

  858. what's this? And Aaron goes, oh, this?

  859. We were— the people, really not me, Moses,

  860. but the people were concerned. You've been gone and

  861. it's dark up there. There's clouds and lightning. They were concerned, we're going to be

  862. stuck here in the wilderness and you're not coming back. So they

  863. all fell back on the history of how they dealt with

  864. spirituality. And they went, we need an idol.

  865. And so I just trying to accommodate the people, I said, give me your jewelry.

  866. I love this. Don't y'all? We threw it in the fire. That's

  867. right. And out came this calf. Yeah.

  868. Tower of Babel. You know what we

  869. should do? We got this covered. We got

  870. off at this bus stop and we told Yahweh

  871. we can get off here and we've got it

  872. covered. So let's build a tower. And

  873. you go, well, Okay, sure, we can build

  874. a tower. And then somebody else says,

  875. you know what let's do? Let's build it

  876. to the heavens. And

  877. people go, great idea. That's this. Yes,

  878. it is. That's what this is.

  879. It's idolatry.

  880. The broken cisterns

  881. are idols.

  882. And our lives are full of broken cisterns.

  883. The problem isn't the broken cisterns. The

  884. problem is we disengaged from our source.

  885. Yes. Because the outworking from the source is living water.

  886. It's healing. It's hope. It's salvation. It's freedom. It's all the things

  887. in those definitions that I asked you to raise your hand about. All of those

  888. things are in the source. All of those things are in the source.

  889. If those things are not in your life, you have a source problem. Right.

  890. Yeah. I didn't address your salvation. I'm

  891. not talking about redemption. I'm talking about

  892. working this out in our

  893. lives. So what we have to do,

  894. I think, is we have to sort of pony up. Can

  895. I— does that phrase still work? Do you have any idea what pony up would

  896. mean? Not a clue. Do you know what a pony is?

  897. We need to step up to the plate. You know what that means? Yeah.

  898. Okay, I'm just messing with y'all. We have to own,

  899. personally and corporately, we have to own

  900. how disengaged we've become from the source.

  901. Yes. I'm not talking about salvation.

  902. I'm not talking about redemption. I'm not talking

  903. about infilling of the Holy Spirit. I'm not

  904. talking about any of that. I'm talking about where

  905. is your source? When you define your source and the

  906. stuff that comes out of the source, not the stuff,

  907. not the stuff, not the stuff. The stuff is all

  908. byproducts from the source. You get connected to

  909. the source, you get the stuff. It's so quiet in

  910. here. See,

  911. at my age— don't shout me down. I might not get

  912. another shot at y'all.

  913. Michael.

  914. We're gonna— we're gonna open the altar up.

  915. If you're here to help pray, would you come please?

  916. Quickly, please. And the altar's open for 2

  917. reasons specifically. If you have a prayer request, a

  918. prayer need that you need to bring up,

  919. you should do that. If

  920. there's a prayer need in your life based on the

  921. last hour, That has to do with

  922. recalibrating or refocusing or realigning

  923. or redirect— redirecting how you

  924. understand your source. And you need somebody—

  925. you need to actually— look at, look at me, look at me— you actually need

  926. to open your mouth to another saint and go,

  927. I'm not as connected to my source as I need to be. I'm saved,

  928. I'm redeemed, I'm going to heaven when I die, but I'm just not

  929. connected to the source like I need to be. You need to

  930. confess that.

  931. Watch. Conviction—

  932. this is free— conviction comes

  933. either from the Holy Ghost or through the Holy

  934. Ghost in other people or circumstances. In

  935. other words, the Holy Ghost can go zap

  936. You're convicted. Or the Holy Ghost can set up

  937. circumstances where you go, uh-oh. Or he can put people in your

  938. path going, you know, that's problematic. And conviction

  939. sets in. Conviction moves to confession.

  940. You don't get to confession till you've been convicted.

  941. You do not confess stuff that you aren't

  942. feeling convicted of. problematic about. This is

  943. Psalm 51. If you move from conviction to

  944. confession, the next step after opening

  945. your mouth— I have a, I have a, I have a, I have a

  946. problem. I'm not connected to my source like I need to be.

  947. What would— now that I've told you that, would you pray for me about that?

  948. That's confession. When that happens

  949. The next step is repentance, and

  950. repentance boiled down is changing the

  951. way we think. Watch, and

  952. I'll stop. Changing the way we think—

  953. repentance is not flipping a light switch and

  954. it's done. Oh, don't shout me down.

  955. Repentance is— it will take whatever

  956. However, whenever, for how long, until how I

  957. think that got me into this problem is now

  958. corrected. Right. You can't get to

  959. restoration and renewal and revival without going through

  960. repentance. And if you think repentance is a one-shot deal,

  961. you make a confession, they lay hands on me and I go, I'm going

  962. to repent. I'm not going to do that anymore. And I turn and

  963. walk away. If you think you're through, you are kidding

  964. yourself. Amen. That's just not biblical. Repentance is a

  965. process. It's not an event.

  966. Conviction is an event, more than likely.

  967. Confession is an event. Will you pray? I

  968. messed up. Repentance is not, well, that's

  969. done. Excuse me, and I'm through. Youngins,

  970. youngins. Hear what I'm saying. If you're

  971. like— not today, not tomorrow. If your life—

  972. if you look up and go, I'm— I've kind of gotten out of kilter here.

  973. The process is conviction, confession,

  974. repentance, restoration, renewal,

  975. revival. Amen. That

  976. process, any one of those steps you break out, Messes

  977. the process up. So now that I've made everybody feel

  978. really guilty, if you want to come, come. And would you all

  979. please get me out of this?

  980. Oh my goodness.
